Tony getting ready for the Tony the Taylor Summer Jam this Saturday night at the
2:06
Red Carpet Pavilion with the guitar legend Gary Hoey. I'm going to talk about
2:09
that's coming up a little bit later on. We got a lot of stuff
2:12
to get to. A big news in the Orlean State government. Yesterday,
2:15
Mark Scott, a key official within the Justice administration, resigned. Now did
2:22
he resign or well, there's a letter still floating around that says he's going
2:24
to resign. That's what we get from the Governor's office. Brad mclhaney and
2:28
I are going to talk about that a little bit later on. Plus we
2:30
got several other things in the news I want to get to. But I'm
2:32
going to start just for this segment by not talking about political controversy. I
2:39
am not going to talk Trump, Biden, Kamala anything right now in this
2:43
segment, or Joe Manchin, but we'll get into that with Brad a little
2:46
bit later on. What I do want to talk about is Christmas. Why
2:50
Christmas? You say, Well, the announcement came yesterday about year two of
2:53
the Selango Lull Light the night over Gomart Ballpark with the Charleston Dirty Birds.
2:58
I have with me Knaw County Commissioner, and the namesake of Selango Law Service
3:01
has been Selango. Good morning, sir, good morning. I'm wearing a
3:06
Tony the Taylor Blazer today. So that's pretty good, pretty good, average
3:08
one one. I'm wearing one. Well, I've done one one. I
3:13
was gonna say, well, Tony. Tony has closed this week. He's
3:16
on vacation, but he's going to open up with a bang with his concert.
3:19
And by the way, I will say if you uh this gentleman.
3:22
A lot of people you may not have heard of him. They're the Gazette.
3:24
I think they had a big article on him. Gary Howey is fantastic.
3:28
If you're a blue slide guitar kind of guy, this guy is the
3:30
best there is. I've been a fan of his for many, many years.
3:34
And uh so, if you get a chance, head on over to
3:36
the carpet for that. We also have Andy Shehay of the Dirty Birds here,
3:40
and we have Joe Gearen the voice and the marketing and whatever else needs
3:45
to be done at the Dirty Bird, She's here. I'm here the ultimate
3:49
utility player. All right, so welcome everybody to the show. Announce Yesterday,
3:53
as I said, the second uh Slanga Law, Dirty Bird's Light,
3:57
that I presented a Gomart Ballpark last year, to put it mildly, was
4:00
certainly a success. Who wants to go over some numbers real quick from last
4:03
year because I know they came out in the press release, Yester, I'll
4:05
hit them up. So we had over one hundred and twenty thousand people come
4:09
through the gates last year for Light the Night, which I mean it was
4:13
just absolutely amazing, you know, hearing people's stories where they came from.
4:16
We had people from forty two states, plus DC, Canada and Puerto Rico.
4:23
We had people from I mean, it was over I believe it was
4:26
over three hundred and fifty different cities towns in West Virginia. So they're coming
4:30
from throughout the state. So the amount of people that were coming through experiencing
4:35
it. And then the coolest thing too was already hearing from people I can't
4:39
wait for this year. I can't wait for tradition, you know, year
4:42
number two. But also hearing them in the moment last year about whether it
4:46
was a family get together, a date night. I know of at least
4:49
two or three proposals that happened out there. I mean, who knows how
4:53
many more that happened. And the thing that's cool with that too is that,
4:57
you know, I kind of had to catch myself yesterday. I'm sure
5:00
wasn't the proposal that was spur of the moment. It was doing it there
5:01
that was spur of the moment because they didn't know what to expect, but
5:04
it caught their eyes so much so developing those memories and traditions is just it's
5:09
absolutely amazing. Jill, what do you think this will be your first one?
5:14
Though? Right? This is my first one. So I went to
5:15
something similar in Arizona where I was living, but I mean it's nowhere near
5:19
like this where that was a date night for me and there were some kids,
5:23
but it wasn't as big of a family thing for this. This is
5:26
a huge family activity basically. You know, there's activities for the kids.
5:30
There's ice skating, there's food, there's places where you can go buy Christmas
5:33
presents and holiday presents. I mean, I'm so excited to be a part
5:36
of your two it's going to be great. It was last year as well.
5:40
Go ahead and write to stay down on your calendar. Opening nine is
5:43
November the fifteenth, couple of weeks before Thanksgiving and kind of get everybody.
5:46
Of course, you know, Christmas commercials I think have already started, so
5:48
you can't talk about Christmas too soon. I guess I want to talk to
5:53
you, Commissioner Selango. Of course your law firm sponsors is, but I
5:56
want to talk to you as Commissioner Salango for a moment. Kind of economic
5:59
impact did this bring to Charleston. You know, I don't think they did
6:01
it an economic impact study, but it's got to be significant. I mean
6:05
to bring that many people, one hundred and twenty thousand people. You look,
6:08
that's essentially two sold out football games, right w football games into the
6:14
Charleston area. And then you also, you know, it's great that we
6:16
were able to coordinate with the mayor, Mayor Goodwin and then we have the
6:20
Holly Brawley trolley jollogy or whatever, and so people were going from downtown to
6:27
the stadium and it was packed. Like every time that I saw the trolley
6:30
come through, it was packed and people were just riding it back and forth.
6:33
So it's also even though the ballpark isn't downtown on Capitol Street, people
6:39
were going back and forth. So it's a big boost and you can get
6:41
tickets coming up here like in the next couple of weeks. Is that right?
6:44
You got it? We're kicking it off. Tickets go on sale August
6:46
fifteenth, so we'll have between now and then, I've certainly got a heck
6:50
of a lot more exciting news and additions to it, but August fifteenth will
6:56
be the first day for ticket sales. What was the big highlight for everybody
6:59
last year? I mean, everybody got their thing that they liked, but
7:00
what seemed to be the biggest hit with the crowds that came many, you
7:03
know what I mean, It's almost impossible to say one, so I'll go
7:06
with three. It was definitely the Ferris Wheel. Definitely the two million lights,
7:12
and then the ice skating rink was just through the roof. I mean
7:15
that one really really took me by storm, how incredibly popular that was.
7:19
So along those lines, that's something we learned from year one where we'll have
7:23
a lot more kind of hours, you know, open hours days, all
7:27
of that stuff for people to ice skate and last year, you know,
7:30
and with any event, and you guys are in the event business, you
7:33
know, you know that the first year, okay, you're just kind of
7:36
getting your feet wet. You're learning a little bit, and you take notes
7:40
and what worked, what didn't, because not everything's going to be hit,
7:42
and some things are going to be a bigger hit than you thought ever thought
7:45
that they would be. So you keep a notebook and you go to next
7:47
year, and so those things that were a big hit, you're going to
7:50
even expound upon and and somehow you're doing more lights, as you said earlier,
7:54
Yeah, oh absolutely, Well that's what you know. I mean,
7:56
I kind of took we all took a step back and almost in a sense,
7:59
looked at it as a real estate developer. And you've got the entire
8:01
footprint of the stadium, so how can we really maximize it? And when
8:05
we looked at last year, you know, while we may have had things
8:07
or something or this, that or the other thing, there are definitely a
8:11
lot of ways to maximize it. Have more efficiencies, cut down in some
8:15
lines, more entrances, all of that type of stuff, while also adding
8:20
a lot more kids games, activities, rides, all of that stuff.
8:24
But Dave Island showing five any Live is proud to you a part by Pinnacle
8:26
Consultants or Services involved developing a comprehensive management plan to outline strategies for controlling and
8:33
minimizing as best this exposure. Perfect for commercial property owners and managers. There's
8:37
a Pinnacle Corp. Dot in that, because what you don't know can hurt
8:39
you. And for the dirty birds too. One of the things that's that's
8:43
really that I have found to be very impressive about the dirty birds under under
8:46
the ownership here now is the way that you folks give back to the community.
8:50
And I know that sounds like a cliche. It's not something that you
8:54
have to do, and obviously you're trying to make a little money along the
8:56
along the way, but this is something you do primarily for the community and
9:00
for the entire area and really for the entire state. Now you're spot on,
9:03
and I'll let you'll go in a second, because she was, I
9:05
mean, that's what it takes. You know, a full team in our
9:07
office and everything, and someone can have an idea, or someone can sign
9:11
the check or whatever. But I mean, if people aren't fulfilling it and
9:13
making it go as far as humanly possible and reach as many people primarily kids,
9:18
teams, everything like that. And that's something you know. I mean
9:22
I've said it a million times, but I've known Jill for years and was
9:24
so pumped when she came and worked here for the Dirty Birds, And I
9:28
mean she has taken some of these programs and ideas to the next level within
9:31
like six months. So I mean I already can't wait to see what's in
9:35
store for this off season and next year. Yeah, I was gonna say
9:37
I started in January, but didn't actually move here until the end of February,
9:41
so I wasn't really part of the planning process. I just took some
9:45
programs that were already here and tried to expand them. So it's gonna be
9:48
my first full off season. So I'm really excited to bring in some new
9:50
ideas and really bring them into light the night as well. Okay, maybe
9:54
not Little League Baseballs, what about community basketball leagues? How can we get
9:58
them out to light the night? What about some other nonprofits, whether it's
10:03
a library day or something like that, stuff that we do at the ballpark
10:05
during baseball season. How can we bring that into light the night as well.
10:09
And I'm presuming you saw this last year because you see this with other
10:11
light displays where people come as groups. You know, you get church groups,
10:16
you get community organizations, things of that nature. Andy that all come
10:18
in. Oh absolutely, I mean it turned into an amazing holiday party spot
10:22
for companies, for organizations as well as I mean, you know that's something
10:26
I actually hadn't thought about. Yeah, yeah, no, I mean we've
10:30
got a handful of it, and that's something we wanted to expand on.
10:31
So in terms of kind of event space and all that stuff and ideas men
10:35
use all that good stuff. I mean, that's certain certainly something we're expanding
10:39
on this year. And then a lot of kind of personal parties, personal
10:43
traditions, families. I mean I've talked to a handful of people already that
10:46
are you know, the presuming it's a joke, but they say that they're
10:50
not going to come visit their family unless they have a spot set up at
10:54
late the night, So you know, I mean, so it already is
10:56
fun and cool hearing these stories and these traditions that just started last year but
11:01
that you know, you can see or growing and are just already so special
11:05
commissioner, I'm going to ask you to take off the commissioner hat and put
11:07
on your litigator hat right now. Uh, well it's probably not the right
11:11
term, but but your your other profession. Why do you guess get involved
11:16
with this as Selingo law. You know, we've always done alternative marketing,
11:18
and it was never it was never even intended to be marketing. We've always
11:22
sponsored events, whether it was the you know, the back when Susan Comen
11:24
was on the five K and and now it's the Breast Health Initiative. We've
11:28
always sponsored those events. And so I don't do TV ads or anything like
11:33
that. I just do this type of community But you do radio ads.
11:37
I do radio ads typically when it's with a community event like the you know
11:41
with Woodye and Woody's in this building with the backpacks, and the the Halloween
11:46
bash that they do over the ballpark. We've always done those. So that's
11:50
that's always what we've tried to do. And you know it, this one
11:52
really turned out well. I was I knew it was going to be a
11:56
big deal. Like when when Andy I was over at the ballpark, you
12:00
know, eating a hot dog and drinking a beer and Andy came over and
12:01
pitched this idea, and I knew immediately was going to be a hit.
12:05
I just knew it was going to be a hit, and so I was
12:07
I was proud to jump onto it. And you know, the first few
12:11
days that they opened, and now was always I was texting Andy and calling
12:13
Andy, Hey, what's it look like tonight? And they were breaking attendant
12:16
records every single night. And so I stood at the entrance and Tera and
12:20
I stood at the entrance and watched the people come through. And it doesn't
12:24
it didn't matter if it was a child or when the east Ridge nursing on
12:28
and brought their folks over, everyone was excited. I mean that was heartwarming,
12:33
you know when they brought their people in and they and just to see
12:35
them see the lights for the first time, and how overwhelming, quite frankly,
12:39
it did. You walk in and the entire statium. They're going to
12:41
do an additional five hundred thousand lights this year. I have no clue where
12:45
you're going to put them. I mean, you're gonna start up in Systemville
12:48
or what are you going to do? Maximizing the property? I mean,
12:52
we've got you know, we've we've really kind of expanded one of the areas
12:56
that it's the one right by the entrance to sixty four actually, so I
13:00
mean that's a great, huge spot right off the bat. I think there's
13:03
a lot of opportunity to this sounds funny, but do more on the field.
13:07
I mean, I think that between the ornaments, the big fixtures,
13:09
all of that stuff. So and then the other piece really where there's it's
13:13
going to be huge is down the left field, down the left field line
13:16
and that whole area that was a lot of fun last year. But I
13:20
think we can add a heck of a lot of lights, add a heck
13:22
of a lot of signs, fixtures, all that good stuff. So I
13:26
mean it'll be uh you might be able to see it from Cissonville. Yeah.
13:31
A couple of quick texts here before we let you go. Someone ask
13:33
about pricing. Well, the price if we set pricing this year is going
13:37
to be same higher? Do we do? We know yet? Heaven formally
13:39
set, but I mean the the a one goal is to keep it as
13:43
similar, if not the exact same as last year. I mean that was
13:45
something that we was very very important for us. I mean it was not
13:48
a small undertaking getting all these lights and putting them all up and everything.
13:52
But I am pretty proud about what the prices we were able to offer last
13:56
year. So that is the a one goal that it is. If it's
14:00
not the exact same, it'll be very very similar to us. And of
14:03
course we'll have plenty of time to work that out. And the tickets are
14:05
going to go on sale here in just a couple of weeks. Right,
14:07
you get taken fifteenth and the first night is November. What did I say?
14:11
November the fifteenth? Is that the first night? Okay? One other
14:13
quick text in a little more fireworks could light the night? Include a drone
14:18
light show. They look awesome and are silent. A silent light the night
14:22
would be beautiful enough with the ultra loud fireworks. Cannot confirm or deny that
14:26
I've been looking at that kid that way. He's been around you. Political
14:31
type. Yeah, he hangs out with me for a little while, like
14:33

17:27
welcome into the show now, Brad mclhooney. Brad, good morning, welcome
17:30
back man. How you been day? I am doing quite well and you
17:37
know I as a as a news guy, I'm luckier than I should be
17:41
for the middle of July, because what a historic week we've passed. We
17:47
have, and you've had an interesting couple of weeks. I want to break
17:49
all this down throughout our segment here today. But you know, we haven't
17:55
really had a chance to talk a whole lot about state stuff because everything that's
17:57
been going on, as you said, as week with a couple of weeks
18:02
with the Biden stepping down at the Trump assassination attempt and so on and so
18:04
forth. But I want to start by talking about some state government stuff,
18:07
including yesterday word that high level Justice Cabinet Secretary Mark Scott's from the Department of
18:14
Administration is resigning, effective at the end of this month. His name has
18:18
been thrown around in a lot of different things, including the baby dog mural
18:22
controversy. What do you have on Mark Scott? So, first of all,
18:26
good job by a friend of the program, Stephen On Adams of the
18:30
Ogden Newspapers, for breaking the story. And Stephen, through the work of
18:37
some of his Ogden Newspapers colleagues, was able to get Governor Jim Justice to
18:42
comment on the resignation of Mark Scott. And you know, let me back
18:48
up just a second. It is probably about time for people to begin considering
18:56
other employment options if they are in the justice administry, because the governor himself
19:00
will say I won't be your governor for long. And if you are of
19:04
working age, you know you're looking at six months. And so when I
19:10
first saw the Mark Scott departure, I thought, oh, it's about that
19:12
time people are looking for other things. No big deal. I think it
19:18
is a big deal, though, And the hint came from the governor himself.
19:22
He was not specific, but on the other hand, was kind of
19:27
open about his concerns. And so here's what here's what the governor said to
19:33
the Augen newspapers. I'm gonna read it out loud. I think Mark has
19:37
done a good job in many ways, but maybe he got out over his
19:41
skis and there are some real issues there from self interest versus self serving interest.
19:48
The governor went on to say, a lot of us I don't know
19:51
the particulars about that. There are real issues surrounding Mark. You mentioned the
19:56
baby dog thing, and Mark Scott was one of the guys who proved baby
20:02
Dog's appearance on that mural. But the governor, although he says he was,
20:07
he was not involved in that decision making, and I'm going to take
20:11
him in a word on that. He's he's given a stake of approval.
20:15
He says, Okay, I appreciate it. That's great. So I don't
20:18
think that that kind of a language of concern from the governor regarding Mike Mark
20:25
Scott, that that doesn't point me in the direction of the mural. However,
20:30
I will say this, people may not know exactly what the administration secretary
20:37
does. That is a hodgepodge job, and it is over state purchasing.
20:42
It's it's over the the State Ethics Office, it's over p e i A.
20:48
So it deals on a sub level with with health and medical contracts.
20:56
It's it's a position of of significant responsibility and you are dealing with those kinds
21:04
of contracts where it makes it sigimmicant difference if you're you know, slowing them
21:08
down or raising issues. It can have leverage. So an important job with
21:18
the kind of leverage I just described. Mark Scott has maintained that job until
21:22
this point. In late February, though an organization called Conservative Policy Action,
21:30
a federally registered political action committee, a super pack promoting Conservative kendidates in West
21:37
Virginia, announced publicly announced on its Facebook page. I'll play you, Dave.
21:44
I didn't navigate to that Facebook page much. That was news to me
21:47
as of yesterday, but they were out in the open since that the Mark
21:51
Scott, while he was still Administration Secretary, was appointed chairman of the Political
21:56
Action Community Board. That Political Action many was doing the things the packs do.
22:03
They were raising money, they were sending out flyers for and against West
22:07
Virginia candidates. Uh, they were calling people asking for donations. UH,
22:15
they were making endorsements. So you know, it seems like a cookie ballance
22:22
to me, being one or the other. But while maintaining a government role,
22:26
Mark Scott had accepted for the last six months this job that was directly
22:33
involved in West Virginia's political scene. Uh. Conservative Policy Action did endorse Governor
22:41
Justice is his run for Senate, So Mark Scott's boss. But more than
22:47
that, it put its most of its efforts into supporting Secretary of State candidate
22:52
Chris Warner, uh and then working against the candidacy of scaff the former Democrat
23:02
who was running for that office. So I think a lot of questions more
23:06
than met my eye at first, a lot of questions about what Mark Scott
23:11
was doing politically while he also was on the government payroll in this more a
23:19
job that should have been straightforward. And we do want to be clear on
23:22
this again. We're talking with Brad mclheuey on the Mark Scott resignation yesterday.
23:26
We do want to be clear on this that no one is saying here at
23:32
two o'clock on a Thursday, that Mark Scott was, you know, running
23:34
around the capitol or engaging in activities with his political action. We don't know
23:41
that. But the truth is, I mean, as you point out so
23:44
well in your story, and you've even got links to press releases and things
23:47
of that nature on the website wv metronews dot com, it just doesn't just
23:52
doesn't look good, Brad, for lack of a better term, Yeah,
23:55
the smell test doesn't matter. The smell test. You know, in your
23:57
conversation of fairness, say, I've now texted Mark Scott twice yea, and
24:04
I it's his choice, but I have not heard from him. The other
24:10
sub question I have And you know you'll be familiar with this as a veteran
24:14
of the Secretary of State's office. This this Political Action Committee, Conservative Policy
24:22
Action did register federally. They registered and foiled reports with the Federal Elections Commission.
24:27
I don't see a record, And maybe that's that's keystroke errors by me.
24:33
Maybe I'm maybe I'm having a flawed search, but I don't see records
24:37
of that organization filing with the Secretary of State's office and providing the kind of
24:44
reports that you usually would if you are taking part in the West Virginia political
24:49
scene. Maybe that's there. Maybe I just have made a thumbstroke error,
24:56
But I am looking for it, and have you yet seen it? Well,
24:59
and we'll continue I know you and others will look at that. And
25:00
as far as Mark Scott might not making any any comment as of yet,
25:04
we are told that he is on a previously planned vacation. And then I
25:10
know that you and other members of the media locally had had reached out to
25:14
the UH to the Governor's office asking for a copy of the resignation letter.
25:17
And I heard one report that said it wasn't available, another one said it
25:21
was hadn't been processed yet, or things of that, which that may very
25:23
well be true, but they're not. They're not being made available yet.
25:29
I re upped my question this morning and have some hope that it may be
25:33
available, you know, on reaching after Mark Scott. I will also say,
25:37
in case he is a loyal listener of this program, I praised my
25:41
question to him via text by citing the governor's comments about, you know,
25:45
questioning his ethics and a the governor went into that zone questioning his ethics,
25:53
but also did it really without any specifics, and I thought it was fair
25:59
to ask him for his response when his reputation has been questioned, And so
26:04
that is how I praised my question to him. Would you like to respond
26:07
to what the governor said about this situation? And I haven't heard back yet.
26:11
Yeah, And I mean the governor pretty much just point blank and I
26:14
don't know exactly what the question he was You said it was somebody was at
26:17
an event that the governor was doing and wheeling and all the newspapers was there
26:21
and they asked him about it, and the governor didn't say, well,
26:23
I don't know anything about it. I don't have any comment. He used
26:26
the term he's gotten out ahead of his skis, and pretty much he definitely
26:30
seemed to me not to put words in the governor's mouth, Brad. But
26:33
he definitely seemed to me like he was questioning several things related to mister Scott.
26:41
I mean, yeah, that's certainly the way actual it. On the
26:45
one hand, very few specifics in what Governor Justice had to say. On
26:48
the other hand, I mean went further than in my opinion, you would
26:53
necessarily have to to question the ethical situation. Maybe he got out of her
26:59
his skis and or real issues from self interest versus self serving interest. That
27:03
is probably more than I would have said. It is more more in less
27:08
than I would have said in confronted with the same question. Yeah, exactly
27:12
exactly. The Dave Allen Chill and five Any Live Bright to You part by

27:26
We started the segment by talking about baby Dog. What do we have
27:30
a baby dog now off international stardom? You know from the RNC last week.
27:34
What is the latest on the mural situation with with baby Dog? Oh
27:40
gosh, well, you know, another friend of the program or or friend
27:42
of w CCHS and our radio network, Herbie Payton, is pursuing a potential
27:49
lawsuit over it. And as I understand it as a non lawyer, the
27:53
grounds of the lawsuit could be but the state didn't follow its own policies.
27:59
There is a seizure through the Capitol Building Commission. State officials have cited some
28:04
preliminary decisions the Capitol Building Commission made more than a decade ago at the end
28:10
of the Mansion administration, the beginning of the Tamalin administration, and then the
28:15
actual decision to put the dog's image on the wall made by this ad hoc
28:22
group of at will employees who said, we need a dog in that picture
28:29
in it it should be the governor's dog. So those questions could be part
28:34
of this potential lawsuit. My understanding is that Harvey Payton, who is an
28:41
art collector, artificionado, art enthusiast himself, that he has given the state
28:48
thirty days notice, which is part of the process you gotta do, and
28:52
so we'll see where whether it develops from there. If you would like to
28:57
see the mural, if there's any question about this in the court of law.
29:02
Uh you know my advice, would we go see it now? The
29:03
state versus baby dog? I can see it now. Court TV is Court
29:07
TV is still a thing. I don't know, but uh, the state
29:10
versus baby dog? You know. I unfortunately, I think TV might not
29:15
be showed you what I know about television. When when we thought there were
29:21
going to be four trials involving Donald Trump this year, I thought, oh,
29:26
I would like to watch a little court TV. I would like to
29:27
see what is being said. And that was I explored it. And that
29:33
was not an option for here and now there are at all your years out
29:36
of it. As I was, I was thinking, well, is it
29:37
going to go before Wapner or Judge Judy or or what is the deal there?
29:41
And and we'll close with this for those that think again. And I
29:44
saw a lot of online chatter, as you frequently do, people saying,
29:47
well, what is the big deal? It's what is the big deal is
29:49
not about baby dog being in a in a piece of artwork for perpetuity.
29:53
What is a big deal is the way that it went about it, and
29:56
it may have very well been illegal. That's what the big deal is.
30:00
Yeah, I mean, the state has process to ensure the integrity of the
30:04
Capitol grounds, and it is completely unclear that this dog decision went through that
30:15
process. And it appears the decision was made by some of the governor's own
30:19
will and pleasure employees who know that he loves his dog. Right, Yeah,
30:26
all right. Has anybody heard from Joe Mansion of the last couple of
30:27
days brand Happy Kirchibull is your guy for that? Well, yeah, he
30:34
was on with Hobby a couple of days ago, and I just I didn't
30:37
know whether we had any Mansion sidings in the last forty eight hours or so.
30:40
What are you looking at in your world? What's what's going on in
30:44
your world today? Are you looking at? Uh? Well, you know,
30:47
now I'm stuck on the pract question. And I mean, it sure
30:49
looks like Manson got run over by the Paris bus. I mean, I
30:53
think he saw a window there where he truly for about two hours, for
30:57
about two hours. She deserves competition and should not be coronated. And you
31:04
know, he thought, well, if nobody else is going to step up,
31:08
I guess it's got to be me. And you know, I guess
31:11
that's that's an act of courage and so that that's where he was and he
31:15
did not see the bus coming. I mean it picked up. She's raised
31:19
one hundred million dollars. She's gotten endorsements from everybody, including friend of the
31:25
program Mike Pushkin and George Clooney. Because we were all we were all holding
31:30
her breath, you know, hoping that George Clooney would come out with an
31:33
endorsement. We all were wondering. You know, we laugh about that.
31:36
But we're in an era of influencers and and fund raisers, and Clooney is
31:41
one of He's raised a bunch of money for democratic causes over the stamp of
31:45
approval counts. So uh, you know, I but Mansion just I mean,
31:51
you know, here, here's the thing to take a step back.
31:53
I think Mansion to be to be courteous to him. I think he did
31:57
us all a favor because he humanized and represented this this actual debate about whether
32:06
there should be an if Joe Biden stepped aside, which he did, whether
32:08
there should be an open competition between the vice president and people like Governor Shapiro
32:15
of Pennsylvania, Governor Bashir of Kentucky, maybe maybe Mark Kelly, the Senator
32:22
from Arizona, Gretchen Whitmer, the governor of Michigan. Any of those could
32:27
have been a viable contender, and Mansion represented the idea that there should be
32:35
a competition of ideas among all those people. Well, you know his,
32:39
his, his position didn't carry and instead Democrats as a group decided, well,
32:45
you know we, Willy nillied on Joe Biden's decision making for three weeks.
32:51
The convention is another three weeks away, and as a group they decided
32:54
we cannot spend six total weeks sitting on our phones while Donald Trump gets out
33:00
ahead of us, and they coalesced around the Vice president. And unfortunately for
33:07
former Democrat Joe Mansion, he was on the outside looking into that process.
33:10
But I do think, in fairness to him, he personified a real debate
33:15
about how the Democratic nominees should be chosen. All right, Brad, we'll

39:50
clouds of mystery, sounds weird as a texture. Texas says, you got
39:54
to laugh at these law and order Republicans getting upset over baby dog and a
39:58
painting. But our enthusiastic voting for child molester Donald Trump helped me make it
40:02
make sense. Well, I think that a couple of things can be true
40:06
at the same time, and again this whole thing with baby dog, and
40:09
I know it seems silly and I'm an animal you know me, I'm an
40:12
animal lover much more than people. I love animals a whole lot more than
40:15
most people I meet. But there's a process you have to go through.
40:20
And it appears as Harvey Payton, a friend of the of the stations and
40:24
you know, and has a show on Thursday Mornings. Here asked the attorney.
40:30
He's he's one that's really looked at this. And Harvey Payton, by
40:34
the way, is not a Republican by any stretch of the imagination. Harvey's
40:37
a great guy, good friend. Not a Republican though, So that's where
40:42
that part is coming from. But again, it's not about a dog.
40:46
And I've seen, you know, I've seen the renderings and they're all cute,
40:50
and I love dogs as much as the next person. But it's not
40:52
about that. It's about what could have possibly been illegal to get it there.
40:57
That's what the whole thing is about. Texays, Joe is a trader
41:04
elected as a Democrat and changed parties need to respect voters and change parties when
41:07
your term ends, says the Texture. Texas says, maybe you should get
41:10
to Chris Warner on the show to talk about Mark Scott might be a primary
41:14
source of information. Well, mister Warner, who I've known for many,
41:16
many years, is more than welcome to come on the show anytime he wants.
41:21
Uh, Texas, Why do they keep pipp picking on Baby Dog?
41:24
She might be a Democrat? Do they even know what? Well? I
41:29
don't know. I know, you know, Baby Dog's owners started as a
41:31
Democrat and later became a Republican. So I'm not sure of the political status
41:37
of Baby Dog. Some news notes the situation with the Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire
41:44
Department. First of all, let me say there is going to be yet
41:46
another public meeting held tomorrow night at seven o'clock at the fire department. Now,
41:52
this story has been around a while, and this is I think think
41:59
the second public meeting about the issues going on with the fire department. Lots
42:02
of accusations have been thrown out there in propriety, poor work environments, et
42:07
cetera, et cetera. I'm told a great number of volunteer firefighters resigned.
42:09
I'm also told that that maybe maybe some of them came back. And I'm
42:15
basing this primarily on just what I've been told by people in social media posts,
42:17
so on and so forth. Concerned citizens and whatnot. Something I did
42:22
read online. Uh, and that this is correct. Someone can correct me.
42:25
But I read read now, if you donate to the fire Department,
42:31
a simple donation to be used for equipment or supplies whatever, that you're allowed
42:37
to vote on board matters. I say that with a question mark, again,
42:42
just basing that on what I what I read that that seems a bit
42:45
odd to me. Maybe it's standard, I don't know, but it seemed
42:47
to be a bit odd to me. But uh, anyway, I don't
42:50
know what their what their by laws say. But anyway, it's been a
42:52
big mass for some time and the public has been fired up about it.
42:54
No pun intended. And there is going to be another public meeting held tomorrow
42:59
night itself at the Fire Department, and we will of course be keeping an
43:02

43:14
that is, you remember him. He is expected to address the nation to
43:17
night at seven o'clock to discuss his decision to withdraw from the presidential race and
43:22
urging his supporters to show support now for Vice President Kamala Harris. As I
43:28
mentioned earlier, Rexx Repass from Research America is going to join Hoppy on talk
43:31
line this morning to discuss some early polling numbers. Now, there's been,
43:36
you know, all kinds of polls out there, and there's going to be
43:38
a whole lot more as we head toward November. One poll out though,
43:42
and I think this might be the one that mister Repass is going to talk
43:45
about. One poll does show Kamala Harris with a slight lead over former President
43:50
Donald Trump. And what's interesting about this is that lead gets even bigger for
43:57
Kamala Harris if Kennedy is factored in, Robert Kennedy Junior, if he's factored
44:02
in. So anyway, President's going to address the nation about his decision,
44:07
and tonight that will be at seven o'clock. We're going to take a break.

46:22
Brad, of course, I say, I said it's going to be on
46:23
the show. But another thing he's going to be covering is this sudden call
46:27
from a lot of people. And this has been going on around the country,
46:30
but locally. By locally, I mean West Virginia. I had to
46:32
Sendtor Shelley Moore Capito on the show yesterday calling for President Biden to go ahead
46:37
and resign now. And also Patrick Morrissey, Attorney General and Republican candidate for
46:42
governor. The nominee for governor also on the show. He was on with
46:45
Hoppy talking about that calling for Biden to resign now. So that's kind of
46:50
an ongoing trend in the Republican Party. Not all Republicans are happy about that
46:53
though, but obviously those two want to see it happen. So Brad is
46:58
going to get into that. X says. The donation things, uh with
47:02
Tyler Mountain not a standard thing in the fire service business. In fact,
47:06
if they're doing that, it would be the first station I've ever heard of
47:08
that is doing that. Again, I just base that one on what I
47:12
read. I don't know any I don't know a whole lot about about fire
47:16
departments, but it seemed a little odd to me. If that is indeed

47:27
O t of Tay's Valley visit protected by Jute dot com. So back momentarily
47:30
to this Mark Scott story. Brad and I had talked about it earlier and
47:34
as I said, Brad will be back on the hoppy UH to talk about
47:37
it next hour. This is an ever developing story UH and Brad has the
47:40
lead story about it posted. It's a very in depth story at wv Metronews
47:44
dot com. UH. Mark Scott's official title was administ Administration Secretary for the
47:50
Executive Branch in the Cabinet of Governor Jim Justice. And the announcement came out
47:54
yesterday and UH, as I said earlier, the Governor briefly mentioned it during
47:59
a UH event in Wheeling, Oggen newspapers breaking the story when they asked the
48:02
governor about it yesterday and Wheeling the Governor's communications director that's what happened yesterday,
48:07
And then later in the day, the Governor's communications director, C. J.
48:10
Harvey issued a brief emailed statement yesterday afternoon, saying basically that they had,
48:16
as I mentioned earlier, had received Mark Scott's resignation, which will be
48:21
effective at the end of this month. And the statement went on to say
48:23
that Mark Scott was on a previously scheduled vacation and would be unavailable for comment.
48:29
Various news outlets, including our own, has reached out to him to
48:31
comment on it. Again, I keep going back to what Brad said that
48:38
the governor said, quote, there are some real issues surrounding Mark, and
48:43
that came directly from the governor, not from me or others. And as
48:47
I said with Brad, various news outlets have asked for a resignation letter,
48:51
but that's not been We have not received that as of when I talked to
48:53
Brad about twenty or so minutes ago. Now, Mark Scott was been involved
48:59
in politics and in the business community for some time, served as one time
49:02
president of the Randolph County Commission and City Council in Elkins, who was also
49:07
in the insurance business. So I think this is going to be a big
49:12
story. I think it's going to be much more than just a resignation.
49:15
And I'm not you know, pointy fingers and saying anything to fair. I'm
49:16
just saying, keep an eye on this story. I think there's going to
49:20
be several layers of the story that are gonna come out. And I wanted
49:22
to get to this yesterday, but I ran out of time. Senator Joe
49:27
Manchem now Independent Joe Manchem the day after the Senator appeared on Hoppy closing the
49:34
lid on running for president. And I know he talked about in other places,
49:37
but let's face it, if you know the relationship and the dynamic that
49:42
exists between the Senator and Hoppy, you'll know it's not official until it's set
49:46
on Hoppy and Mansion is repeating the mantra of a search for the middle,
49:58
searching for the middle, and I have to say, editorial comment from me,
50:04
I agree with him, and I've made that point very clear in the
50:07
show at this at this point, if you are supporting Kamala Harris for president,
50:13
for the most part, I think that's a far left position. Not
50:17
way far left, don't get me wrong, but I think it's a left
50:21
leaning position, and that's like the understatement of the year. Further More,
50:25
I think that if you are supporting Donald Trump, as obviously many many,
50:30
many, many many people are. I think that's that that's a that's obviously
50:38
a right wing position. And I know all about the GOP's obsession with Trump,
50:45
and it's not going to go away anytime soon. But even though Trump
50:50
is considered by many uh to be far right, he's far from being a
50:55
conservative. I mean, he's Donald Trump is not a conservative. It's it's
51:01
it's that simple. He's not. And his brand of politics is what sadly
51:08
framed the conversation of the Republican Party. And as I said, viewed by
51:13
many to be far right, I can't help it up. Maybe I'm totally
51:16
wrong, but I think there are some of us out there that neither lean
51:20
far right or far left, some common sense people out there somewhere that just
51:25
and I agree with the center. It is just simply aren't. Don't don't
51:30
have a voice in this election. And I think, to quote a good
51:37
friend of mine who will be voting for Trump, he said, and this
51:39
was a direct quote. I wrote it down when my buddy said it.
51:42
He said, I can't stand the guy. I wish he would go away.
51:45
Now that doesn't mean he wished he would be assassinated. He means he
51:46
just wishes he would he would he would leave politics. His quote was,
51:51
I wish he would go away. But he's the best we have to save
51:54
this country. That is according to one of my friends. Tex says Harris
51:59
numbers up is like a post convention bump, although how much money raised after
52:02
Biden dropped out says more and justlike of Biden than like of her. Kennedy
52:07
does need watching as his internal numbers on campaign email have him rise, and
52:12
says a Texter. Trump's campaign says, the text needs to make a video
52:16
with interviews with people that cackles Kamada in prison for marijuana. It makes it
