Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hour two here on Sporting State. Next round, Hard Rock Bet,
- 0:05Speaker 1: our title sponsor. Hard Rock Bet line tonight for Monday
- 0:09Speaker 1: Night Football. Falcons in New Orleans, 20 years after returning
- 0:13Speaker 1: post-Katrina at the Superdome. New Orleans a one-and-a-half point favorite
- 0:19Speaker 1: in that battle for first place to try to keep
- 0:22Speaker 1: up with the Panthers. How sad is that? In the
- 0:24Speaker 1: NFC South. Panthers are a good football team. They are.
- 0:26Speaker 1: They were really good last night.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Dave Canales is a coach that people don't talk about enough.
- 0:30Speaker 2: We talked about him a little bit last year and
- 0:33Speaker 2: the improvement with Bryce Young, but that is right now
- 0:36Speaker 2: the fourth best scoring offense in the NFL, averaging over
- 0:39Speaker 2: 30 points per game.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Bryce Young is just... I don't think anybody in the
- 0:42Speaker 1: South will be able to keep up with Carolina long-term
- 0:44Speaker 1: with their scoring. But they play tonight. The Saints a
- 0:47Speaker 1: one-and-a-half point favorite. LanceIsLocked.com for a play there. Some other
- 0:51Speaker 1: look-ahead lines before we jump back into college football. Red
- 0:56Speaker 1: River is this weekend. Neutral site. Total 50-50 split in Dallas.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Texas State Fair. Longhorns eight-and-a-half. Last I checked this morning
- 1:05Speaker 1: against Oklahoma.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I saw it dip down to seven-and-a-half, but it could
- 1:09Speaker 2: be back to eight-and-a-half.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Two struggling offenses. I think I like the under. You
- 1:12Speaker 1: don't even have to tell me what the total is.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Give me the under. Really? Well, I mean, look at
- 1:16Speaker 1: those two offenses. Neither one of them.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I would still say that total, they probably put it
- 1:20Speaker 2: at 50-and-a-half.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Oh, I think I'd like the under there.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I haven't even seen the total yet.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I'd like the under. We mentioned to you Georgia and
- 1:25Speaker 1: Alabama flipped. Opened Georgia 1-and-a-half, Alabama 1-and-a-half. Two interesting games
- 1:30Speaker 1: in the SEC. Missouri still at home, 3-and-a-half with Texas
- 1:35Speaker 1: A & M coming to town. Are the Aggies really
- 1:38Speaker 1: that bad? No.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I mean, they've got a ton of talent. It's just
- 1:41Speaker 2: the offense has been a mess.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And then Brownie. LSU on the road at Kentucky minus
- 1:50Speaker 1: 10 LSU a favorite in the bluegrass um I've already
- 1:54Speaker 1: got my blue sharpie sitting over here to see if
- 1:58Speaker 1: I can draw a big capital K the interlocking U and.
- 2:00Speaker 2: K um can you see Kentucky win this game it's
- 2:04Speaker 2: a power K game power K power.
- 2:06Speaker 1: K this is one of those where and I I
- 2:10Speaker 1: don't Give out picks for a living. I don't really
- 2:13Speaker 1: even bet on a lot of football games. I've had
- 2:16Speaker 1: some positions on a couple games this year. How's the system,
- 2:19Speaker 1: by the way? The system went 0-3. We've got a
- 2:21Speaker 1: red alert. First bad weekend of the year for the system.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I did have somebody this weekend ask me, hey, what
- 2:26Speaker 2: is his system? And I was like, it doesn't matter.
- 2:28Speaker 1: It went 0-3. It was really good up until last week.
- 2:31Speaker 1: We're going to give it one more week to see
- 2:32Speaker 1: if it recovers. But this is one of those games
- 2:35Speaker 1: where you're like, LSU's probably favored 10.5 for a good reason.
- 2:40Speaker 1: On the road. against Kentucky, who's already got two SEC
- 2:43Speaker 1: road wins. And you look at that and you're like,
- 2:46Speaker 1: they don't have all those nice hotels out there for
- 2:49Speaker 1: no reason, right? They're not just going to give LSU
- 2:51Speaker 1: 10.5 points to get giggles out of people. Yeah, but
- 2:54Speaker 1: I do think the public would be all over LSU and.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin, right? I don't know. Kentucky does have a
- 3:00Speaker 2: number next to it. It's had a number for the
- 3:02Speaker 2: last couple of weeks, but you start to look at
- 3:05Speaker 2: these wins.
- 3:06Speaker 1: That's a lot of points.
- 3:07Speaker 2: That's a lot of road points.
- 3:07Speaker 1: A lot of road points.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I would think it's going.
- 3:09Speaker 1: To be split. My blue could also, in cursive writing,
- 3:13Speaker 1: put UCLA on the road at Oregon. Oregon minus 11.5
- 3:17Speaker 1: is the early hard rock bet line. Day game, 230 CBS. 11.5,
- 3:23Speaker 1: thought on that one.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I mean, UCLA believes, and they're coming off a bye, and...
- 3:28Speaker 2: They're sitting there at 4-0 and they can run the football.
- 3:31Speaker 2: If you can efficiently run the football in Autzen, I
- 3:35Speaker 2: think that they would have an outside shot.
- 3:40Speaker 1: In Autzen, what's that number again? 11.5. That's fairly low.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I wonder the last time you said it went up
- 3:47Speaker 1: there and was only 11.5.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I said last week when we talked about the game,
- 3:52Speaker 2: I thought it would be right around 10. So, I mean,
- 3:54Speaker 2: numbers about where it should be. I think both of
- 3:56Speaker 2: those games, LSU should be right around a double-digit favorite
- 3:59Speaker 2: and the same with Oregon.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And a sneaky good possibly Friday night game, Iowa State
- 4:05Speaker 1: at BYU. BYU look ahead with Notre Dame the next week.
- 4:09Speaker 1: BYU a 10.5-point favorite. on Friday night with Iowa State
- 4:13Speaker 1: coming to town.
- 4:14Speaker 2: You know, L.J. Martin goes out, one of the best
- 4:16Speaker 2: running backs in college football, after only two carries with
- 4:18Speaker 2: a leg injury. Barrett Bogma, I really, really struggled. That
- 4:21Speaker 2: was another one of those games I'm like, had TCU
- 4:24Speaker 2: plus six, how we didn't cover that game.
- 4:27Speaker 1: 17-10, that's way lower scoring than I thought that game
- 4:29Speaker 1: would be.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah, BYU, they need to get L.J. Martin. I don't
- 4:33Speaker 2: know what his status is moving forward, but it's a
- 4:36Speaker 2: different offense without him.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah, BYU was No. 10 last week, all the way
- 4:40Speaker 1: up to No. 8 in the AP poll this week.
- 4:42Speaker 1: After a 17-10, they move up two spots ahead of
- 4:46Speaker 1: Ole Miss, ahead of LSU.
- 4:48Speaker 2: If you watched BYU Saturday night, they did not look
- 4:51Speaker 2: like one of the top eight teams in college football,
- 4:53Speaker 2: but they did win. I'll tell you, TCU, that offense
- 4:56Speaker 2: is broken. Jaden Craig's not bad. He's not really good.
- 5:00Speaker 2: But they've scored 33 points in three Power 4 games
- 5:03Speaker 2: this year. That's pathetic.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I saw on three, it was behind a paywall, so
- 5:07Speaker 1: I didn't read the story, but I saw the tweet of,
- 5:09Speaker 1: now that we've entered October, coaching carousel discussions will begin.
- 5:13Speaker 1: There were three photos in the thumbnail. Let me guess. Okay,
- 5:15Speaker 1: three coaches' photos in the thumbnail. You bring it up
- 5:17Speaker 1: here because Kalani Sataki would be very popular. No, no, no.
- 5:21Speaker 1: This is coaches getting fired. Oh, getting fired. So these
- 5:22Speaker 1: guys getting fired, yeah. I thought these were guys to
- 5:24Speaker 1: be hot, to be hired. These are getting fired now.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Now I brought it up here.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Beamer, Loxley, and who's this?
- 5:29Speaker 1: Loxley was not in there. It's Beamer Riley. No, he
- 5:33Speaker 1: was not in there. It was Beamer, Greg.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Sciano, and Sonny Dykes.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Coming out of that BYU-TCU loss. And I'm like, wow.
- 5:45Speaker 1: It's taken him a minute to burn off all that goodwill,
- 5:47Speaker 1: but has he finally burned it off?
- 5:50Speaker 2: 2023.
- 5:50Speaker 1: 2022 season. So we're four years removed now.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Played for the national championship.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I know, which tells you that buyout has gotten whittled
- 5:59Speaker 1: down a little bit at a time. And I think
- 6:02Speaker 1: his AD, Brooks, you can check me on this, I
- 6:05Speaker 1: think his former AD is now the AD at South Carolina.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Is that possible? Brooks will have to check that. I
- 6:12Speaker 1: was going to check Sonny Dyke's bio just to see.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet with some of those lines there. The

- 7:10Speaker 1: Of T-E-N-N-E-S-S-E-E. I think I got that right. That was
- 7:16Speaker 1: a weird one to spell. It's a weird one to
- 7:18Speaker 1: decide to spell there on the fly. Yeah, and I
- 7:20Speaker 1: got really nervous when I was doing it.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Hard Rock.bet. Whose choice is it?
- 7:23Speaker 1: I think it's yours, right? No, I did one. I
- 7:26Speaker 1: think it's yours, Bram. No, you took Rutgers and Indiana.
- 7:29Speaker 1: That came out of nowhere. It's Lance's.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Okay, take one, Lance. Let's go to Iowa City. Iowa fans, boy,
- 7:34Speaker 2: they showed up. They did not show out. This Ohio
- 7:38Speaker 2: State offense. I mean, to put 31 on the road
- 7:42Speaker 2: on that Iowa defense, I think it shows you this
- 7:44Speaker 2: Ohio State offense can be a really, really difficult out.
- 7:46Speaker 2: And Jeremiah Smith getting all these targets. Just 206 receiving yards.
- 7:51Speaker 2: The real Hank Brown finally showed up. That's just a
- 7:54Speaker 2: tough offense to watch.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it is. I mean, 206 receiving yards on the
- 7:58Speaker 1: road against a ranked conference team? For Jeremiah Smith, that's
- 8:02Speaker 1: an incredible performance out of him. Who's a better quarterback,
- 8:06Speaker 1: Arch Manning or Julian Sayen?
- 8:08Speaker 2: Oh, Julian Sayen. I mean, a college quarterback.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Are you serious? Oh, yeah. I mean, if Arch had
- 8:15Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith and Sark could design some play calls to
- 8:19Speaker 1: get him the ball... I mean, there are some 50-50
- 8:23Speaker 1: throws there that Jeremiah goes.
- 8:25Speaker 2: And gets more. Arch has got more talent than Ohio State.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I guess Arch doesn't throw it up and let him
- 8:30Speaker 1: catch it like Julian does. I mean, there are some
- 8:33Speaker 1: iffy balls Julian throws that if Jeremiah Smith's not a thief.
- 8:36Speaker 2: He is so much more accurate than Arch.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I think if you traded Cam Coleman for Jeremiah Smith,
- 8:42Speaker 1: Arch wouldn't be that much different, as crazy as it sounds.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I don't think he would either. And I think Cam
- 8:46Speaker 2: Coleman would be a star, I guess.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know if Kevin Kovac would
- 8:50Speaker 1: or not. You talk to people that are at these games,
- 8:53Speaker 1: and they're like, Sark is still scheming up open receivers.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Arch just can't get it to him. I've heard multiple
- 8:59Speaker 1: analysts say, I don't watch the field. Jeremiah's not open sometimes,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and Julian throws it to him, and that kid just
- 9:04Speaker 1: makes the plays.
- 9:04Speaker 2: But I do think Ryan Day is like, you've got
- 9:06Speaker 2: to trust this guy, and I think Jeremiah's saying the
- 9:08Speaker 2: same thing. I mean, why would you not throw it
- 9:12Speaker 2: up to that guy?
- 9:12Speaker 1: I mean, he throws some iffy balls, and Jeremiah makes
- 9:16Speaker 1: the catch, and and sometimes even makes a tough cast
- 9:18Speaker 1: and catch and then still turns it into yards after
- 9:21Speaker 1: the catch. Uh, he's, he is so good.
- 9:24Speaker 2: There was one throw that like, it was almost a
- 9:27Speaker 2: perfect throw, but I don't know if saying meant to
- 9:29Speaker 2: throw it, but how he came down between two defenders.
- 9:33Speaker 2: And then he was able to get like 15 yards
- 9:35Speaker 2: after the catch. Like he is just next level. I
- 9:38Speaker 2: don't know how he doesn't go.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Number one, I will say was saying, I would agree
- 9:41Speaker 1: with you a hundred percent. I would take him over
- 9:42Speaker 1: any of these quarterbacks. Um, And it was an Iowa-feeling
- 9:47Speaker 1: game in the first quarter. They had it 10-6 at
- 9:48Speaker 1: the break. You know, when they waved to the kids,
- 9:50Speaker 1: it was 10-6.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, they did dictate tempo.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and you're like, all right, Iowa has been able
- 9:54Speaker 1: to slow Ohio State down, make them play their style.
- 9:57Speaker 1: And then when it when it finally clicked for.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Ohio they couldn't run the football though 39 yards rushing
- 10:01Speaker 2: and you know that was going to be a problem
- 10:02Speaker 2: if Iowa couldn't run the football you know offensively they
- 10:05Speaker 2: weren't going to be able to do anything but 484
- 10:07Speaker 2: total yards on the road pretty impressive.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah I can't remember who said it I think it
- 10:12Speaker 1: was on game day but one of the analysts had
- 10:15Speaker 1: talked to NFL scouts maybe it was Desmond and They
- 10:19Speaker 1: were talking about Jeremiah at the next level, and they
- 10:23Speaker 1: were like, day one, this guy will put up these
- 10:26Speaker 1: kind of numbers, day one in the NFL, that he's
- 10:30Speaker 1: that good of a route runner, good hands, good speed,
- 10:33Speaker 1: good size, that he will be a day one starter
- 10:36Speaker 1: and an impact player in the NFL. I said it
- 10:39Speaker 1: a couple weeks ago, and I don't know that the
- 10:41Speaker 1: Dolphins are going to end up with the first pick anymore.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I thought they were, but I don't think they are now.
- 10:45Speaker 1: If my Dolphins have the first pick, I hope they
- 10:47Speaker 1: go him over any of these quarterbacks. You can get
- 10:50Speaker 1: as good a quarterback as the rest of this draft
- 10:52Speaker 1: has almost any year. You can't get the receiver that
- 10:54Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith is any year. So I would rather, whether
- 10:58Speaker 1: it's the Titans doing it or the Chargers, I guess,
- 11:02Speaker 1: are the running for last pick right now. My Bucs are, man.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I would take Jeremiah right now.
- 11:06Speaker 2: If you want an overreaction, if he stays healthy, like
- 11:09Speaker 2: how he's not a Hall of Famer.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, he looks the part, yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I agree with that.
- 11:14Speaker 1: The way he's not a Hall of Famer is if
- 11:15Speaker 1: he's got a crap quarterback throwing. I mean, just on Saturday,
- 11:18Speaker 1: think about the records and the people he passed. He
- 11:20Speaker 1: passed Ibuka for the most catches. He passed, I think
- 11:26Speaker 1: it was Olave for the most touchdowns.
- 11:28Speaker 2: By the way, these trivia questions will be really difficult
- 11:30Speaker 2: with how good their receivers are.
- 11:32Speaker 1: That's right. But now you just end out, say, Jeremiah Smith.
- 11:36Speaker 1: He's going to own every record. If you're the best
- 11:38Speaker 1: receiver that has ever played at Ohio State, and he
- 11:40Speaker 1: may be, I want you because that has been... One
- 11:43Speaker 1: stud NFL receiver after another come out of there. From
- 11:46Speaker 1: Chris Carter to what you just got. Smith and Jigba
- 11:50Speaker 1: to Abuka. I mean, it has been one after another
- 11:52Speaker 1: come out of there. If you just go since 2010,
- 11:54Speaker 1: it is wide receiver you. Oh, yeah.
- 11:57Speaker 2: And Cornell Tate, what, went fourth last year to the Titans?
- 12:01Speaker 2: You know, a guy that's kind of disappeared and back
- 12:02Speaker 2: to your not good quarterback play. But if Cornell Tate
- 12:05Speaker 2: went fourth, how does Jeremiah Smith not.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Go number one? I want him number one at Miami.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So all of a sudden there's a lot of competition
- 12:12Speaker 1: for that first pick. We've talked about some teams around this,
- 12:17Speaker 1: but USC goes to Penn State this week. They beat
- 12:21Speaker 1: Washington 25-21. The loss to Oregon for USC, the Big
- 12:28Speaker 1: Ten still has got to put three, maybe four teams
- 12:31Speaker 1: in the playoffs. The Trojans are 5-1, going to probably
- 12:36Speaker 1: the weakest wideout in Penn State history. I mean, Penn
- 12:39Speaker 1: State's attitude can't be great. with the games they've lost
- 12:42Speaker 1: the last two weeks.
- 12:43Speaker 2: USC is so soft. I don't know how much the
- 12:46Speaker 2: game you guys watched.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I saw the play you were about to bring up.
- 12:48Speaker 2: When they went up 11 on the tight end that's
- 12:51Speaker 2: just going down the sideline, and two different USC defenders
- 12:54Speaker 2: just try to push him out of bounds.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Todd Blackledge is the nicest guy in the world, and
- 12:59Speaker 1: you heard what he said. He roasted them.
- 13:00Speaker 2: It was pathetic. And that just shows you this USC
- 13:03Speaker 2: team is soft. They were down 11 at home in
- 13:05Speaker 2: the second half. They couldn't run the football. They're undisciplined,
- 13:08Speaker 2: nine penalties. They had the turnover. On the other side,
- 13:12Speaker 2: Washington just couldn't move the chains. They were 1-12 on
- 13:15Speaker 2: third downs. You can't win like that on the road.
- 13:19Speaker 2: To me, two overrated coaches on Saturday night. Not a
- 13:22Speaker 2: fan of either one. This USC team is not good.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I honestly thought when Washington got the ball back at
- 13:26Speaker 1: the end, and there was no reason to think this
- 13:29Speaker 1: based on the way they played the rest of the game.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I really thought they were going to drive out and
- 13:32Speaker 1: win the game. And DeMond Williams throws one. almost throws
- 13:36Speaker 1: one up for grabs for like a 30-yard completion. And
- 13:40Speaker 1: after that, that was the one that picked up. Was
- 13:42Speaker 1: that fourth down?
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a fourth down, and I thought he
- 13:43Speaker 2: was going to break it.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I did too. And after he caught that, I was like,
- 13:46Speaker 1: Washington is winning this game. And to Gary Patterson's credit,
- 13:50Speaker 1: that defense stood up right there at the end and
- 13:52Speaker 1: saved the win. But I thought Washington was about to
- 13:55Speaker 1: end the game. win the game, and end it for later.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Anyway, to your point, I think it's two really average
- 14:00Speaker 2: teams playing in State College on Saturday.
- 14:02Speaker 1: But I expect USC to win. They're going to be 6-1.
- 14:04Speaker 2: They're terrible in the Eastern time zone.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I'll tell you, though, Matt Campbell, after getting destroyed, he's
- 14:09Speaker 1: getting a lot of criticism already.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Oh, he should. I mean, if you look at it,
- 14:13Speaker 2: Franklin realistically should be undefeated. When they got up 14-0,
- 14:16Speaker 2: I thought they were going to run Pitt off the field.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah. But, I mean, he is getting... He's getting a
- 14:21Speaker 1: lot of criticism from Penn State fans over their performance
- 14:24Speaker 1: the last two weeks. They're 3-2, 0-2 in the Big Ten.
- 14:27Speaker 1: The same record as Kyle Whittingham at Michigan, who's 3-2,
- 14:30Speaker 1: 0-2 in the Big Ten. Penn State, though, paid Matt
- 14:34Speaker 1: Campbell guaranteed money $ 70. 5 million. Fully guaranteed.
- 14:40Speaker 2: And you can make an argument that is the easiest
- 14:42Speaker 2: for sure when you go Big Ten SEC schedules. The
- 14:45Speaker 2: easiest schedule in those two conferences. It was ready made
- 14:48Speaker 2: for a playoff appearance this year.
- 14:50Speaker 1: But we discussed this in the offseason. When Kurt Cignetti
- 14:55Speaker 1: left James Madison and went to Indiana and he brought
- 14:58Speaker 1: all those guys with him. It was all fun and
- 14:59Speaker 1: games because it worked. And Indiana got better with James
- 15:02Speaker 1: Madison guys because Indiana sucked before Cignetti got there. James
- 15:05Speaker 1: Madison guys weren't upgraded a lot of positions. And they
- 15:08Speaker 1: won big, and it worked. And everybody was like, well,
- 15:10Speaker 1: how fun is that? So now everybody's using that philosophy.
- 15:13Speaker 1: And we talked about it. You're Penn State, and there
- 15:16Speaker 1: were 20, how many Iowa State guys that came with him?
- 15:19Speaker 1: I think it was 32. 30, whatever the number was,
- 15:23Speaker 1: the way Franklin had recruited, that could not have been
- 15:25Speaker 1: that big an upgrade on that roster. And now I
- 15:28Speaker 1: think you're looking at it and you're like, it was
- 15:29Speaker 1: not that big an upgrade on that roster. They have
- 15:31Speaker 1: now lost back-to-back games to Wisconsin and Northwestern.
- 15:35Speaker 2: And that's the thing. If you're a Penn State fan,
- 15:37Speaker 2: when you looked at the schedule, you maybe didn't know
- 15:39Speaker 2: how good you'd be year one, but you had 5-0.
- 15:43Speaker 2: How you're not 5-0 is pretty insane.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Give me, if you can, Forrester, I know it's not
- 15:48Speaker 1: ready handy, but your USC schedule. I want a USC
- 15:51Speaker 1: schedule the rest of the way. It's tough. They've got
- 15:54Speaker 1: to win this one, Jay. I know they don't travel much.
- 15:56Speaker 1: To the East well, but surely they can beat Penn State.
- 16:00Speaker 1: And then it'll be 6-1. I mean, USC's home for football.
- 16:05Speaker 1: They've got their own NBC contract like Notre Dame. They're
- 16:07Speaker 1: on NBC again tonight.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I'll be honest. I think they're going to be lucky
- 16:10Speaker 2: to go 3-3 down the stretch.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Okay. So 3-3. So it's a tough schedule down the stretch.
- 16:16Speaker 1: It's at Penn State. Then after a bye, you're at Wisconsin,
- 16:19Speaker 1: which is not a layup anymore. Not a layup. I mean,
- 16:21Speaker 1: Fickle has got that team playing much better this year.
- 16:23Speaker 1: And here come your two losses. I don't see a
- 16:24Speaker 1: path on these. You host Ohio State. After a bye,
- 16:27Speaker 1: you are at Indiana. So it's back-to-back. Maryland should be
- 16:31Speaker 1: the layup, and then at UCLA right now, I mean,
- 16:34Speaker 1: you'll probably have more USC fans in the Rose Bowl, but...
- 16:36Speaker 1: But still, playing UCLA is not a gimme. Some of
- 16:40Speaker 1: those games you looked at at the start, like at
- 16:42Speaker 1: Wisconsin and at UCLA, you're like, oh, maybe those are gimme's.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I thought they would win this weekend, and they really,
- 16:46Speaker 2: really struggled. I said last week after the Oregon loss,
- 16:49Speaker 2: they're 8-4, and I'll stick with that because I think
- 16:51Speaker 2: they lose. But the Ohio State and Indiana, that gives
- 16:54Speaker 2: them three losses. And then pick Penn State, Wisconsin, or UCLA.
- 16:58Speaker 2: They're not winning all three of those games on the road.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Wisconsin's back-to-back wins over Penn State, and then they killed
- 17:04Speaker 1: Michigan State this week. Killed Michigan State.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I give Fickle a lot of credit. He was dead
- 17:08Speaker 2: man walking coming into the year.
- 17:09Speaker 1: He's turned it around. I mean, their only loss is
- 17:12Speaker 1: Notre Dame. Hats off to Forrester there. Look at that.
- 17:14Speaker 1: That's not only a USC schedule, it's on a sporting
- 17:16Speaker 1: state background. He got that baby squeezed down, didn't he?
- 17:19Speaker 1: Really good. And what's it called? A watermark sporting state
- 17:24Speaker 1: in the red background? Nobody stole it from us.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, baby. Forrester's got a little pep in his step today.
- 17:30Speaker 2: White socks are on up.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Yeah, he's fired up about that. All right. We haven't
- 17:36Speaker 1: done Tennessee-Auburn. That was my game. So you want to
- 17:38Speaker 1: do it after the break? After the break. We'll do
- 17:40Speaker 1: Tennessee-Auburn and some NFL when we come back. This is
- 17:43Speaker 1: the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State. Hey,
- 17:46Speaker 1: here we go now as we roll on on the
- 17:48Speaker 1: next round of Sporting State as Brownie yells at Luke.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I was asking earlier.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Hey, Luke.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Luke, who works up here, one of our sales staff
- 17:56Speaker 1: up here. People name Luke. Do they ever, because Lance
- 17:59Speaker 1: did it when he walked out the first break. Do
- 18:02Speaker 1: people name Luke get tired of hearing people go Luke? Luke.
- 18:06Speaker 1: They're not booing you, Luke. Luke. It's always an interesting name.
- 18:11Speaker 1: We'll talk Auburn's trip to Tennessee and where we are
- 18:14Speaker 1: on both the Tigers and the Vols right after Lance
- 18:17Speaker 1: tells us about Clay Travis Law. a chance for you
- 18:21Speaker 1: in the great state of Tennessee or wherever you are
- 18:23Speaker 1: to choose Clay Travis Law.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yeah, accidents do not wait for a good time. That's
- 18:27Speaker 2: why our friend Clay Travis started Clay Travis Law. A wreck,
- 18:31Speaker 2: a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention, and suddenly
- 18:34Speaker 2: you're finding an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Clay built a firm around one idea. People deserve someone
- 18:40Speaker 2: willing to pay attention, ask the hard questions, and push
- 18:43Speaker 2: back when things don't add up. Experienced trial attorneys are
- 18:45Speaker 2: who bring the fight to corporations and insurers based in Nashville,
- 18:48Speaker 2: trusted across the country. They lead negotiations with honesty, determination,
- 18:52Speaker 2: and southern grit. Car and truck wrecks, rideshare accidents, medical malpractice.
- 18:57Speaker 2: If you were wrong, they want to hear about it.

- 19:11Speaker 1: Hey, and if you're watching us, not only in the
- 19:13Speaker 1: state of Alabama, but if you're in Tennessee, excuse me,
- 19:17Speaker 1: in Georgia this weekend, in Georgia this weekend, and you're
- 19:21Speaker 1: watching us right now, and you're coming over to Tuscaloosa
- 19:24Speaker 1: for the Georgia-Alabama game, we'll be at Ennis Free, the
- 19:27Speaker 1: historic game day bar.
- 19:30Speaker 2: In a spree.
- 19:31Speaker 1: We'll be there 9 to 1 central on Friday. During
- 19:35Speaker 1: this part of the show, we'll be there 9 to 11.
- 19:37Speaker 1: We'll be outside. Weather permitting, we'll be outside. You can
- 19:43Speaker 1: see us even before the doors open if you want
- 19:45Speaker 1: to come by and have an early morning hello and
- 19:48Speaker 1: bring your coffee or your cocktail to get ready for
- 19:50Speaker 1: a big game weekend at Ennis Free in Tuscaloosa. Our
- 19:53Speaker 1: road shows continue on Friday, 9 to 1 o'clock, but
- 19:57Speaker 1: 9 to 11 for this part of the show coming
- 20:00Speaker 1: up on Friday. Brownie, your pick? Let's go Tennessee and Auburn,
- 20:03Speaker 1: and we could start with Tennessee. Got the win. But
- 20:08Speaker 1: I think they leave the game with quarterback questions. I mean,
- 20:11Speaker 1: you've got to. Faison Brandon was ineffective, gets pulled. I
- 20:17Speaker 1: don't know that it improved that much after the quarterback switch,
- 20:19Speaker 1: but they were able to run the football, so it
- 20:21Speaker 1: did not matter. Auburn just could not stop the run.
- 20:23Speaker 2: I mean, Deshaun Bishop, my gosh. How often do you
- 20:26Speaker 2: see a college running back get 34 carries in a game?
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that is a lot. I told you last week
- 20:32Speaker 1: I was good up until 200 yards. I mean, that
- 20:35Speaker 1: was a dominant performance, and If you if you we've
- 20:41Speaker 1: seen teams have success when they can't run the football,
- 20:45Speaker 1: you know, Alabama last year made it to the playoffs,
- 20:47Speaker 1: whatever amount of success you want to put that. But
- 20:49Speaker 1: you literally cannot win anything in this sport if you
- 20:53Speaker 1: can't stop the run. It is the easiest path to
- 20:56Speaker 1: victory and or in this case, the easiest path to
- 20:59Speaker 1: defense to defeat if you can't stop the run.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah, the DJ Durkin defense has been a head scratcher. Yeah,
- 21:06Speaker 2: I thought that that would be kind of what would
- 21:08Speaker 2: carry Golish in year one. And I know we'll get
- 21:10Speaker 2: to the offense. I'll let you get to your point, Brown. But,
- 21:14Speaker 2: you know, it's either giving up big plays through the air.
- 21:16Speaker 2: You saw what Florida was able to do for 60
- 21:18Speaker 2: minutes against it. And then Deshaun Bishop and the whole team,
- 21:22Speaker 2: 237 rushing yards, almost five yards a clip.
- 21:24Speaker 1: It's just puzzling how you can have a defense, or
- 21:28Speaker 1: excuse me, an offense that really can't throw the ball effectively,
- 21:31Speaker 1: so much so that Tennessee switched quarterbacks. And you can't
- 21:34Speaker 1: stop the run any better than that. And they threw
- 21:35Speaker 1: it 18 times. They threw it 18 times. That's what
- 21:37Speaker 1: I couldn't figure out watching that game. I'm like, how
- 21:39Speaker 1: is Tennessee able to run this effectively because they have
- 21:41Speaker 1: zero passing threat? None. Auburn is not. There's no reason
- 21:45Speaker 1: for Auburn to worry about them throwing the football. Make Brandon.
- 21:49Speaker 1: or McIntyre, complete something down the field before you even
- 21:55Speaker 1: worry about it, yet they were still able to run that.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Although it was great on the ground, it still seems
- 22:02Speaker 2: really broken. Not as broken as Auburn's offense, though. I
- 22:05Speaker 2: still don't understand why Auburn's not running the football more.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I know it's all about Byron Brown getting his carries,
- 22:11Speaker 2: and look, that's... Really, the only time Byron Brown's really
- 22:15Speaker 2: been efficient. Byron Brown as a passer has not been good.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Tennessee 15 on our big sheet this week. And Tom
- 22:22Speaker 1: Lugenbill said on Monday Morning Live, you can see the
- 22:24Speaker 1: whole show on our platform at Next Rent Live. Tom
- 22:26Speaker 1: Lugenbill of ESPN. He says Tennessee has to stick with
- 22:30Speaker 1: George McIntyre if they're going to be successful this year.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Why does he say that? Because did you see anything
- 22:35Speaker 1: out of McIntyre that jumped out at you? It was
- 22:37Speaker 1: 8 of 10 for 86 yards. And they were 8
- 22:40Speaker 1: of 10 for 86 yards tells you how short the
- 22:42Speaker 1: pass is.
- 22:42Speaker 2: I mean, it looked like the same quarterback. I mean,
- 22:44Speaker 2: one's black, one's white, but they were both bad.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Why does he think that? I'm not arguing with Luger, Bill.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I'm just curious.
- 22:48Speaker 1: He just thinks that that allows them to play more
- 22:51Speaker 1: of their offense. But to me, I think his saying
- 22:55Speaker 1: is that Faison, Brandon, they're open people, and he's not
- 22:57Speaker 1: seeing them or is slow to throw it to them. Yeah.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Okay, last week, and I don't know what it is
- 23:02Speaker 2: right now, you could have gotten at hard rock bet
- 23:05Speaker 2: Alabama minus only one and a half.
- 23:07Speaker 1: In Tennessee.
- 23:08Speaker 2: What would you take right now if you could get
- 23:10Speaker 2: Alabama minus one and a half at Tennessee?
- 23:13Speaker 1: Well, rivalry game at Neyland Stadium. I want to watch
- 23:15Speaker 1: the Georgia game first. I mean, Texas just struggled their
- 23:19Speaker 1: butt off to win there. I think Tennessee's got a
- 23:21Speaker 1: quality defense. Probably the best defense Alabama has. Well, Georgia's
- 23:24Speaker 1: will be better, I guess. I mean, is Georgia's defense
- 23:27Speaker 1: better than Tennessee's?
- 23:28Speaker 2: Yes. Brown?
- 23:29Speaker 1: Oh, you say it that quickly?
- 23:30Speaker 2: I think so, yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Tennessee has given up nine.
- 23:33Speaker 2: I think Tennessee's defense is really good.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I'm looking at it right here. They gave up 24
- 23:37Speaker 1: at Georgia Tech. Some of that was garbage time. But 9-24, 9-17,
- 23:38Speaker 1: and 14. People just aren't scoring on Tennessee now. The
- 23:42Speaker 1: other side of that is.
- 23:43Speaker 2: They haven't played a good offense.
- 23:44Speaker 1: They've played Georgia Tech and Auburn. The best offense they've
- 23:46Speaker 1: played is Texas, who's struggling at best. Yeah, I don't
- 23:49Speaker 1: think they've played a top 50 offense. And they're at
- 23:51Speaker 1: Arkansas this week, so they will not play a top
- 23:52Speaker 1: 50 offense this week. So Bama will be by far
- 23:55Speaker 1: and away the best offense they've played.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Byron.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Oh, go ahead. No, I want to talk about Auburn's offense,
- 23:59Speaker 1: and you're about to... Byron Brown was 22 of 33, 159,
- 24:00Speaker 1: a touchdown, two interceptions. He ran the ball 19 times,
- 24:02Speaker 1: 107 yards, led the team.
- 24:09Speaker 1: In fact, I think you put everyone else together and
- 24:13Speaker 1: at least the two best running backs, Mappson and Cobb,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and they don't come close to his 107 yards.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Cobb doesn't get carries.
- 24:21Speaker 1: He had three. Three for 17. Here's Alex Golish. A
- 24:26Speaker 1: reporter says, why Byron Brown hasn't been able to sustain
- 24:30Speaker 1: any rhythm in SEC play. Alex Golish disagreed with the question.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I honestly thought For the most part, he was
- 24:40Speaker 3: in a rhythm when we weren't first and 15 and
- 24:44Speaker 3: having to restart drives. Even in some of those situations,
- 24:48Speaker 3: I felt like he was in a rhythm. I felt
- 24:49Speaker 3: like he felt it well, or he saw it well.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I felt like he read the run game well. I
- 24:55Speaker 3: felt like he read the pass game well. I thought
- 24:58Speaker 3: he had some scramble opportunities that were really big. There
- 25:01Speaker 3: were some quarterback run opportunities that were really big. I
- 25:05Speaker 3: don't know if I agree with you on that.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I agree with whoever asked the question.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I did. I mean, if that's him in a rhythm,
- 25:12Speaker 1: that's even more alarming. You know what I'm saying? Like,
- 25:15Speaker 1: I mean, I would hope that Gillis would have said, yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 1: he never did that.
- 25:18Speaker 2: I mean, I think he's played some average games. I
- 25:20Speaker 2: thought he was average Saturday. I thought he was average
- 25:22Speaker 2: against Florida, but he just hasn't. He hasn't been good.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I've had more than one Auburn fan say this to me,
- 25:28Speaker 1: so much so that I did it for our drive-in
- 25:29Speaker 1: video this morning at Next Round Live if you want
- 25:32Speaker 1: to watch it. New coach, same offense. I'm sick of
- 25:36Speaker 1: this as an Auburn fan. Some variation of that, not
- 25:38Speaker 1: the same words. New coach, same offense. New coach, same offense.
- 25:40Speaker 1: New coach, offense hasn't changed a bit. And, I mean, honestly,
- 25:44Speaker 1: you watch it and it has not. Now, you know,
- 25:47Speaker 1: Golish has coached five games. I think you've got to
- 25:49Speaker 1: give him more time. Well, the schemes are tremendously different. Yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 1: but the results aren't. And that's what I think the
- 25:55Speaker 1: Auburn fan is saying is new coach, maybe new schemes,
- 25:59Speaker 1: same results.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, even go back last week, they won
- 26:01Speaker 2: the game over Vanderbilt, but, you know, seven of those
- 26:03Speaker 2: points blocked punt. So 14 points last week, 14 points
- 26:07Speaker 2: this week.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I don't know the X's and O's and all, but
- 26:10Speaker 1: Golish and Heupel are both running the same style of offense,
- 26:14Speaker 1: relatively speaking. In theory. And it involves really spreading you
- 26:18Speaker 1: out as far as you can to the sidelines. The
- 26:20Speaker 1: wide choice, yeah. That's right. And then if you go
- 26:24Speaker 1: out to cover those guys, Levy did this as well,
- 26:27Speaker 1: you go out and cover those guys, it makes a
- 26:28Speaker 1: light box, and you should be able to run the ball.
- 26:30Speaker 1: In theory. In theory. Tennessee was able to do it. Correct.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Without a quarterback. And Auburn couldn't do it. With? With
- 26:38Speaker 1: anybody else but their quarterback. Yeah, with a starting quarterback.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and I don't know how good, you know.
- 26:43Speaker 1: To me, that goes offensive line to make Tennessee's O-line
- 26:45Speaker 1: better than Auburn's.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say that. And Auburn doesn't have a
- 26:48Speaker 2: threat at receiver. I don't think the receivers are bad, but.
- 26:51Speaker 1: There's not a threat. They're solid receivers, but there's nothing
- 26:54Speaker 1: that scares you down the field. You're not scared of
- 26:57Speaker 1: Neptune or any of those guys down the field. There
- 27:00Speaker 1: were two plays, though. that I think their coaching staff
- 27:05Speaker 1: is telling you how bad this is. There were two
- 27:10Speaker 1: plays in that game where I think Alex Golish is
- 27:13Speaker 1: not saying this with his words, he's saying this with
- 27:15Speaker 1: his actions, how bad this has gotten for Auburn. The
- 27:18Speaker 1: first play is coming out of the locker room, you
- 27:20Speaker 1: run a hook and ladder, which is... Pretty crazy straight
- 27:24Speaker 1: out of the locker room. Like, perhaps they've done something
- 27:27Speaker 1: to set that up.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Earlier in the game. That's one of those, you saw
- 27:29Speaker 2: the Texans do it. You're out of time, you're out
- 27:30Speaker 2: of timeouts.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:31Speaker 2: You're down a possession.
- 27:33Speaker 1: I don't know that I've ever seen it run straight
- 27:34Speaker 1: out of the locker room. I'm not saying it's a
- 27:36Speaker 1: bad play. I'm just saying that was such a unique
- 27:38Speaker 1: time to run it. And it lost a yard. It's
- 27:41Speaker 1: like Tennessee was not the least bit fooled by it.
- 27:44Speaker 1: So whatever you had done to set that up over
- 27:46Speaker 1: the past couple of weeks on film or during that game,
- 27:50Speaker 1: Tennessee was not fooled. Okay, I'm old. Okay. I believe
- 27:54Speaker 1: this was right out of the locker room, AFC playoff game,
- 27:58Speaker 1: Dolphins-Chargers Christmas Day. That's late in the game. No, it
- 28:02Speaker 1: was not right out of the locker room. Oh, I
- 28:03Speaker 1: think it was late. I think it was right out
- 28:05Speaker 1: of the locker room. I think it was third quarter. Now,
- 28:07Speaker 1: I'm not awake for that. I'm alive for that game,
- 28:09Speaker 1: or awake for that matter. I'm not alive for that game.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Alabama's Tony Nathan catches it and pitches it. It's a
- 28:14Speaker 1: historic play in Dolphins history. I mean, it's a great
- 28:16Speaker 1: play in Dolphins history. I thought it was late in
- 28:18Speaker 1: the game. Or maybe it was pitched to Tony Nathan.
- 28:19Speaker 1: One way or the other. I remember watching it. Yeah,
- 28:21Speaker 1: Tony Nathan scores. Yeah. um the other play though that
- 28:25Speaker 1: that's play right out of the locker room you've got
- 28:27Speaker 1: second 10 after the second 11 after that but the
- 28:29Speaker 1: most critical play is you're you're down in your own
- 28:32Speaker 1: territory and you've got to go for fourth down and
- 28:34Speaker 1: it's fourth and maybe not even one and you try
- 28:39Speaker 1: to run outside and you can go back and watch
- 28:42Speaker 1: this i don't break down film i don't have to
- 28:45Speaker 1: i can count go watch that play, and Auburn is
- 28:48Speaker 1: outnumbered to the side they ran it to. There is
- 28:50Speaker 1: no hope for that play. Yeah, it made no sense.
- 28:52Speaker 2: And you heard Louis Riddick talk about, you've got a
- 28:54Speaker 2: 235-pound quarterback. Like, run him right up the gut.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Who's your leading rusher? Yeah, I mean, but that is
- 29:00Speaker 1: Alex Golis.
- 29:01Speaker 2: And that's a fast defense.
- 29:02Speaker 1: That's Alex Golis telling you, we have got, even in
- 29:05Speaker 1: the most critical of times, we have got no faith
- 29:07Speaker 1: up the middle. None whatsoever. Game on the line, I'm
- 29:10Speaker 1: running it outside, and that is scary if you're an
- 29:13Speaker 1: Auburn fan. It looked like they were trying to get
- 29:17Speaker 1: a big play off of them thinking Byron was going
- 29:19Speaker 1: to keep it maybe and but but but again now
- 29:23Speaker 1: let's burn them on the edge because they think we're
- 29:24Speaker 1: going to go the Byron push either didn't surprise either
- 29:27Speaker 1: your coach needs a timeout or Byron needs to check
- 29:30Speaker 1: out of the play I'm all you got to do
- 29:31Speaker 1: is go look and and after the game I don't
- 29:34Speaker 1: know if you've got this from Scott it's right here
- 29:36Speaker 1: is this him talking about the play because listen to
- 29:37Speaker 1: what he says and then go back and watch the
- 29:39Speaker 1: play versus what he says right now. Here's Alex Golish
- 29:42Speaker 1: with six and change left, backed up, going for it
- 29:46Speaker 1: on fourth and one.
- 29:48Speaker 3: You know, the fourth and one, I felt like we
- 29:51Speaker 3: were limited possessions there and we had to go get
- 29:54Speaker 3: something done, put the defense in a tough spot. But
- 29:58Speaker 3: that was a decision I made with the thought of
- 30:01Speaker 3: we need to go, I felt like we had momentum
- 30:03Speaker 3: on offense, like that we need.
- 30:05Speaker 2: To go score.
- 30:06Speaker 3: We, we've got a couple of years of running it inside,
- 30:11Speaker 3: running it off tackle the other way. Um, the thought
- 30:15Speaker 3: is the, the pictures they had shown that they.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Would chase it off the backside edge.
- 30:20Speaker 3: We thought we could go hat for hat with Sig and,
- 30:25Speaker 3: And then put Cobb in space. It sucked a little
- 30:27Speaker 3: bit being on the left hash. They're being tucked up
- 30:29Speaker 3: against the sideline. But that was the thought process there.
- 30:33Speaker 1: So he's saying that our tape and the guy I
- 30:36Speaker 1: used to work for, they're going to go back and
- 30:38Speaker 1: look at our tape. And we've got two years of
- 30:40Speaker 1: us running. between the tackles and we thought they would
- 30:44Speaker 1: chase that and boy they didn't they did not and
- 30:46Speaker 1: and when.
- 30:47Speaker 2: You say sometimes you overthink it though we.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Thought we could get them hat for hat i'm just
- 30:50Speaker 1: saying if you look at the still shots pre-snap you
- 30:54Speaker 1: you don't have enough hats that is the problem with
- 30:56Speaker 1: that play and that's where i don't know if it's
- 30:59Speaker 1: on byron brown to look at that and say all
- 31:01Speaker 1: right let's kill this and go to a quarterback sneak
- 31:03Speaker 1: or if golish has to burn the time out there
- 31:05Speaker 1: and say you know we got to change this play
- 31:07Speaker 1: i'm just telling you i encourage you to go back
- 31:09Speaker 1: and find that play if you can stomach it as
- 31:11Speaker 1: an auburn fan And just count. I mean, that play
- 31:13Speaker 1: is doomed. That play, Jim, is doomed before the ball
- 31:16Speaker 1: is ever snapped. But nobody had a problem with him
- 31:19Speaker 1: going forward at that point. Not a bit. Your offense
- 31:21Speaker 1: has done nothing all day. You can't just give it
- 31:23Speaker 1: back to Tennessee and let them. Because here's the other problem.
- 31:25Speaker 1: You give it back to Tennessee, what was there, 640-ish? Yeah,
- 31:28Speaker 1: it was just over six minutes. The way Tennessee's running
- 31:30Speaker 1: the football, you may never get it back. And if
- 31:33Speaker 1: you do, it's going to be after.
- 31:33Speaker 3: They score anyway.
- 31:34Speaker 1: But I'll tell you this.
- 31:34Speaker 2: I don't know how... bad or average Auburn is, but
- 31:38Speaker 2: they can't overcome 11 penalties every single game.
- 31:42Speaker 1: No, they're not that good.
- 31:43Speaker 2: And they are one of the worst teams in the
- 31:44Speaker 2: country at penalty yards, penalties per game. Not only that,
- 31:48Speaker 2: the three turnovers, the final one. I mean, I was
- 31:51Speaker 2: looking to get myself a cover. I just needed a
- 31:53Speaker 2: field goal there at the end. And first down, he
- 31:56Speaker 2: throws a pick.
- 31:57Speaker 1: There's somebody else that's getting a lot of penalties, too,
- 31:59Speaker 1: that's winning. I can't remember who it is, but I'll
- 32:02Speaker 1: come across it. It used to be Miami. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Somebody else is getting a lot of penalties and not
- 32:08Speaker 1: overcoming them.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Missouri's getting a ton of penalties.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and they overcame it this weekend. Maybe that's who
- 32:13Speaker 1: I saw. One quick other. Anybody here? One more college football.
- 32:18Speaker 1: We'll do NFL in our final segment here on Sporting State.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Any more college football thoughts you want to get out?
- 32:25Speaker 1: I mean, Notre Dame at North Carolina was an interesting
- 32:27Speaker 1: game for a minute.
- 32:28Speaker 2: It was for a minute.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Notre Dame probably needed to be tested just for
- 32:32Speaker 1: a little game pressure. Yeah, road test didn't hurt them.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Yeah, when they returned the second half kickoff, I was like, oh, damn.
- 32:37Speaker 2: With these conditions, it seems a little wild today. Yep,
- 32:41Speaker 2: it was rainy, you know, prime for turnovers. How about Minnesota?
- 32:45Speaker 1: Minnesota over Michigan. We haven't talked about that one really,
- 32:47Speaker 1: have we? 2014, Minnesota won it. Yeah, we just mentioned
- 32:51Speaker 1: that it happened. I mean, Michigan's just not a very
- 32:54Speaker 1: good football team, I don't think. Gophers are 4-1, 2-0
- 32:58Speaker 1: in the Big Ten. And maybe I'm just not giving
- 32:59Speaker 1: them enough credit because back-to-back weeks, they've won at Washington,
- 33:02Speaker 1: who looked a little better Saturday. Boy, I tell you,
- 33:04Speaker 1: the Big Ten is down. It does seem that way.
- 33:07Speaker 2: It really is.
- 33:08Speaker 1: But does it seem that way because we don't think
- 33:11Speaker 1: USC's going to win a lot, that Washington we thought
- 33:13Speaker 1: was going to be good, Michigan we thought was going
- 33:15Speaker 1: to be good, but meanwhile, Wisconsin and Northwestern and Nebraska
- 33:19Speaker 1: are better.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I will ask you this. Any team would... What team
- 33:23Speaker 2: would scare you outside of Ohio State coming to your
- 33:26Speaker 2: building in the SEC? I'm talking about like the top
- 33:29Speaker 2: seven or eight.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Indiana Steel. Indiana would be interesting. I don't think it
- 33:32Speaker 1: would scare me anymore. Well, I don't think Ohio State
- 33:34Speaker 1: would scare me coming to my building. Oh, I don't know.
- 33:37Speaker 2: But I think outside of like, I mean, Oregon at
- 33:39Speaker 2: home is going to be a really difficult out, but
- 33:41Speaker 2: you saw them in Stillwater.
- 33:43Speaker 1: I mean, to your point of the Big Ten, who's
- 33:44Speaker 1: the fourth best Big Ten team? Because you know who
- 33:46Speaker 1: the top three are. You struggle to find it. Yeah,
- 33:48Speaker 1: I mean. But what's the SEC going to be by
- 33:51Speaker 1: the time we get there? I mean, because we are
- 33:53Speaker 1: rotating NFL like win a big game, lose a game.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Win a big game, lose a game. But if you
- 33:57Speaker 1: do this right now.
- 33:58Speaker 2: I think Northwestern might be your fourth best team. I
- 34:00Speaker 2: know that sounds crazy.
- 34:01Speaker 1: It does. It absolutely does. Until you do this in
- 34:03Speaker 1: the ACC for your second best team, and you probably
- 34:05Speaker 1: say Wake Forest. So, I mean, that's kind of where
- 34:08Speaker 1: we are in the world of college football right now.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Because I think you make a good argument Wake Forest
- 34:12Speaker 1: is your second best ACC team.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Real quick.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Would you agree with that?
- 34:16Speaker 2: Second best team in the ACC is Wake Forest.
- 34:19Speaker 1: They're the second best coach team in the ACC for sure.
- 34:21Speaker 2: I would agree with that.
- 34:22Speaker 1: They've played Miami as close as anybody.
- 34:25Speaker 2: I don't have a problem with it. I mean, Duke
- 34:27Speaker 2: might be right there.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Duke is there in the discussion.
- 34:29Speaker 2: But I was just going to ask you guys seriously
- 34:31Speaker 2: the Northwestern question. I mean, just middle of the road,
- 34:34Speaker 2: like Northwestern or Nebraska, who do you feel better about
- 34:37Speaker 2: right now? Neutral site.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Neutral site. Put them at Lincoln Field and Lincoln Oil.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Lucas Oil. Lucas Oil probably would go Northwestern right there.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Northwestern Iowa.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Northwestern Michigan.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Northwestern Penn State. But, I mean, those are still teams
- 34:52Speaker 2: that we talked about being in the college football playoff
- 34:55Speaker 2: out of the Big Ten. USC is not as good
- 34:57Speaker 2: as Northwestern right now.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I don't believe.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Washington not as good as Northwestern.
- 35:01Speaker 1: It's just weird. I mean, there's three clear-cut good teams
- 35:03Speaker 1: in the Big Ten. And then when you get to
- 35:04Speaker 1: number four. I just don't know who you're making an
- 35:07Speaker 1: argument for. But I still think there's flaws with both
- 35:09Speaker 1: Oregon and Indiana. Obviously, you saw a flaw in the
- 35:11Speaker 1: fourth quarter with Ohio State. If they end up having
- 35:15Speaker 1: only three good playoff-worthy teams, that opens the door for
- 35:19Speaker 1: a fifth SEC or a second Big 12, which I
- 35:23Speaker 1: know you're high on at some point getting that second
- 35:25Speaker 1: Big 12 team.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I mean, BYU I did not think looked good at all.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Texas Tech is a mess. They went 29-7. Isaac Wilson
- 35:33Speaker 2: couldn't have played worse.
- 35:34Speaker 1: And Colorado is just– I don't even know what Colorado
- 35:37Speaker 1: has become.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Yeah, so I don't know about that. And the ACC,
- 35:40Speaker 2: you just said it, like there's no way they can
- 35:42Speaker 2: get two teams in. Yeah.
- 35:44Speaker 1: All right. NFL, we just rolled through week four of
- 35:47Speaker 1: the NFL. I had to prove that I'm still a
- 35:50Speaker 1: Buccaneers fan, even though they're 0-4. I'll put this– truthfully,
- 35:54Speaker 1: it's so hot up here, I didn't think anybody would
- 35:56Speaker 1: see this. I thought it would be under a hoodie
- 35:58Speaker 1: all day long. Nope. Because I've got the contrasting reds,
- 36:01Speaker 1: which I hate. I did not plan. I didn't notice that.
- 36:03Speaker 1: You're the team. I did not plan on this being exposed. Yeah,
- 36:07Speaker 1: you're the team. It doesn't look as contrasting on the camera, though.
- 36:10Speaker 1: That's what I was hoping. No, it's closer on camera.
- 36:12Speaker 1: There'd be some color correction going on. Yeah, Scott's the
- 36:14Speaker 1: best at his business. He's like, oh, my God, Jim.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Yeah. I made some great games yesterday.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Some great games. And we'll get into those and spend
- 36:22Speaker 1: 18 good minutes with that as we wrap up the
- 36:25Speaker 1: next round here on Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State.
- 36:29Speaker 2: To the NFL we go after Brownie.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Tells us about our friends at XXXY. It's Jennifer Say,
- 36:35Speaker 1: a national champion gymnast and Levi's brand president who, rather
- 36:39Speaker 1: than say something she didn't believe in, decided to walk
- 36:42Speaker 1: away from that job. But she didn't just stop. She
- 36:45Speaker 1: created a clothing line, XXXY Athletics, clothing line of her own.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Here's their mission and their words. Empower female athletes and
- 36:53Speaker 1: take a stand for fair competition. For that reason, they
- 36:57Speaker 1: have what they call the T that launched a movement.
- 37:00Speaker 1: And also for that reason, it's where you can buy
- 37:01Speaker 1: Clay Travis official Nashville Balls gear, the official gear of
- 37:05Speaker 1: the future WNBA franchise owned by Clay. XXXY is the
- 37:09Speaker 1: official apparel provider for Nashville Balls merch. This is real
- 37:12Speaker 1: athletic apparel, not some slogan on a shirt somewhere. We're
- 37:15Speaker 1: talking about performance tops, tanks, sports bras, Leggings, shorts, training sets, hoodies, hats,
- 37:20Speaker 1: graphic tees, men's and women's clothing worn by athletes who've
- 37:24Speaker 1: actually put something on the line. You can order now, xxxyathletics.com.

- 37:39Speaker 1: I turned the Rams Eagles off at halftime. I was
- 37:43Speaker 1: surprised to hear the Rams won this morning when you
- 37:45Speaker 1: guys came in. A battle-tested win for your Rams, 24-20.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Just playing bad, bad football. And look, the Eagles were
- 37:57Speaker 2: completely disassembled with injuries. You saw Saquon went out in
- 38:00Speaker 2: the first quarter with a hamstring. And on the same thing,
- 38:03Speaker 2: Rams were missing four starters yesterday. But how they found
- 38:06Speaker 2: a way to win that. And Nick Sirianni taking a
- 38:08Speaker 2: lot of heat, going for it, fourth down multiple times.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Got away with it both times, though. You know, in
- 38:13Speaker 2: his own territory, goes for it on the 38. Rams
- 38:16Speaker 2: got no points out of that. Then goes for the
- 38:18Speaker 2: late fourth and goal, which I don't know if it
- 38:22Speaker 2: was the right call or not. I mean, in retrospect,
- 38:25Speaker 2: if they kick it, Rams still win by a point.
- 38:28Speaker 2: But you wonder if the mentality.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Is a little bit different. That's right. So for those
- 38:31Speaker 1: that weren't watching, you've got fourth and goal from the two,
- 38:34Speaker 1: is that right? From the two, yep. From the two,
- 38:35Speaker 1: fourth and goal from the two. And it's a 10-point game.
- 38:39Speaker 1: And there are, as I remember it, six and a
- 38:42Speaker 1: half minutes to go, somewhere around there.
- 38:43Speaker 2: That's right, yeah.
- 38:45Speaker 1: What do you do there? Do you go up 13?
- 38:47Speaker 1: I run my best two-point play. I think I do, too.
- 38:49Speaker 1: They try to get the touchdown.
- 38:50Speaker 2: They didn't. And look, if they get the touchdown, the
- 38:52Speaker 2: game is absolutely over.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Yeah, you're up 17 with six minutes to go in
- 38:55Speaker 1: the NFL. It's almost impossible to lose that game.
- 38:58Speaker 2: And I know Sirianni's thinking, look, they've got to go
- 39:00Speaker 2: basically 99 yards, which they did.
- 39:03Speaker 1: They did, very quickly.
- 39:03Speaker 2: And then they were able to get a three and
- 39:05Speaker 2: out for the Eagles. The Eagles 0 for 12 on
- 39:07Speaker 2: third down yesterday. Just unbelievable. I mean, it was, look,
- 39:10Speaker 2: an awful looking Eagles offense. The Rams, just the self-inflicted
- 39:17Speaker 2: mistakes they continue to make. Least penalized team in the
- 39:19Speaker 2: NFL last year, and they are just killing themselves. But, again,
- 39:23Speaker 2: they found a way to win on the road. The Eagles,
- 39:26Speaker 2: a team they just can't beat. Sean McVay was 1-6
- 39:29Speaker 2: against the Eagles going into that game, but they found
- 39:31Speaker 2: a way to get out of there. Now they've got Buffalo.
- 39:33Speaker 2: But this Philadelphia offense, even when they get whole, when
- 39:36Speaker 2: Devontae's back, when Saquon's 100%, I don't know how good
- 39:39Speaker 2: this offense is.
- 39:41Speaker 1: And then what is shaping up to be one of
- 39:43Speaker 1: the greatest landmines of all time, my Super Bowl pick,
- 39:47Speaker 1: was the Texans versus the Rams. The Texans are 0-4. Yeah,
- 39:53Speaker 1: and it's defense, which is crazy with D'Amico Ryans to
- 39:56Speaker 1: allow the Cowboys to drive right back down when you're
- 39:59Speaker 1: like that at the end. They're virtually eliminated from the playoffs,
- 40:03Speaker 1: and they've had a leaky defense this year, which I
- 40:05Speaker 1: never thought you would see in Houston.
- 40:06Speaker 2: They are 27th in scoring defense. They're giving up over
- 40:09Speaker 2: 27 points per game. That is baffling. We gave them
- 40:12Speaker 2: a pass week one because it was Josh Allen.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:15Speaker 2: And look, this Dallas offense is really, really good. But, man,
- 40:19Speaker 2: I mean, what D'Amico Ryan's was, I just don't know
- 40:23Speaker 2: what's going on with the defense. It doesn't make any sense.
- 40:25Speaker 2: And you say they're virtually eliminated since 1990. Do you
- 40:29Speaker 2: know how many teams have made the postseason starting 0-4?
- 40:31Speaker 3: Eight.
- 40:34Speaker 1: One.
- 40:34Speaker 3: One?
- 40:35Speaker 1: Okay, so they're more than virtually eliminated.
- 40:36Speaker 2: I don't even remember who it was, but it is
- 40:39Speaker 2: one that it started 0-4.
- 40:40Speaker 1: So at this point, you're going to have to win
- 40:41Speaker 1: your division. You can forget a wild card. You just
- 40:43Speaker 1: got to pray. And Jacksonville is playing really, really good
- 40:46Speaker 1: football at 3-1. Yeah, Jacksonville ain't falling apart. I mean,
- 40:49Speaker 1: you've got to track Jacksonville down now just to make
- 40:51Speaker 1: the playoffs. You're not getting a wild card at this point. So,
- 40:54Speaker 1: I mean....
- 40:56Speaker 2: I mean, the Chargers are equally as head-scratching.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right.
- 40:59Speaker 2: Because I thought offensively, we thought the Texans would be
- 41:02Speaker 2: great defensively, but we thought the Chargers would be really
- 41:05Speaker 2: good offensively.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Well, Mike McDaniel, this quirky little former head coach who
- 41:10Speaker 1: was the run coordinator at San Francisco— Is he the
- 41:16Speaker 1: problem with the Chargers? Well, I mean, Jim Harbaugh is
- 41:18Speaker 1: already being asked in the postgame if McDaniel's job is safe.
- 41:21Speaker 1: And in typical awkward weirdo Jim Harbaugh fashion, he answered
- 41:26Speaker 1: and said he's safe, even though it was a very
- 41:28Speaker 1: puzzling answer because that's who Jim Harbaugh is. But he
- 41:31Speaker 1: said he's safe right now. But I really did not
- 41:33Speaker 1: think this would be the discussion after week four with
- 41:35Speaker 1: him that they're already talking about maybe firing Mike McDaniel.
- 41:37Speaker 2: I mean, I talk about the Texans 27th in scoring defense,
- 41:41Speaker 2: the Chargers 29th in scoring offense. They're averaging less than
- 41:44Speaker 2: 17 points per game.
- 41:45Speaker 1: I know.
- 41:46Speaker 2: And when you've got a quarterback like Justin Herbert, you're
- 41:48Speaker 2: talking about just wasting a talent. I know there's going
- 41:50Speaker 2: to be people out there. He's not very good. Justin
- 41:52Speaker 2: Herbert is very, very talented.
- 41:54Speaker 1: He was not yesterday.
- 41:55Speaker 2: He was not. He hadn't been this year.
- 41:56Speaker 1: No.
- 41:56Speaker 2: But you wonder how much of that is the opposite.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Like Mike McDaniel got the best play out of Tua
- 42:02Speaker 1: that anybody has ever gotten out of Tua professionally, not collegiately,
- 42:05Speaker 1: but professionally. And it seems like the exact opposite with Herbert.
- 42:10Speaker 1: It's like he's getting the worst play out of Herbert.
- 42:12Speaker 1: So I don't know where the disconnect is. There are
- 42:15Speaker 1: three unbeaten teams. Chiefs, Niners, I'm relatively not surprised. But
- 42:21Speaker 1: the Vikings are unbeaten still right now. I watched a
- 42:24Speaker 1: lot of that game as you are. The whole game,
- 42:26Speaker 1: as you might imagine, is they were playing my Dolphins.
- 42:29Speaker 1: One guy all summer long said Kyler Murray would be
- 42:31Speaker 1: an upgraded quarterback for the Vikings. I don't know if
- 42:34Speaker 1: he is. Now, they were without Justin Jefferson yesterday, which
- 42:36Speaker 1: is significant. Well, I go back week one.
- 42:38Speaker 2: They were getting dominated by the Packers. Kyler goes out.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Carson Wentz comes in. A weird fourth quarter with a
- 42:43Speaker 2: bunch of penalties. Then the Bears. Caleb Williams is going
- 42:46Speaker 2: in around the end. It was bad conditions. He gimps up.
- 42:49Speaker 2: They end up winning that game 9-3. Then they play
- 42:52Speaker 2: a bad Bucs team and a bad Dolphins team. Like,
- 42:54Speaker 2: Kevin O'Connell's a really good coach. I don't think Minnesota's
- 42:57Speaker 2: 4-0 good, though.
- 42:58Speaker 1: 15 points against the Dolphins. Now, for those that weren't
- 43:00Speaker 1: watching late, TJ Hawkinson on a walk-in touchdown chooses to
- 43:03Speaker 1: go down at the two-minute warning because Miami's out of timeouts.
- 43:06Speaker 1: So 15-10. It's really a 22-10 win. And I don't
- 43:09Speaker 1: know if that makes you feel any better if you're
- 43:12Speaker 1: a Vikings fan, but they were booing the offense. The
- 43:14Speaker 1: Vikings fans, passionate fan base there in that beautiful stadium,
- 43:18Speaker 1: booing their offense because Will Reichard, God, I meant to
- 43:24Speaker 1: screenshot this stat. Will Reichard has not missed a home
- 43:26Speaker 1: kick since 2024, an amazing run for him. That would
- 43:30Speaker 1: have been his rookie year. Yeah, and they have not
- 43:32Speaker 1: scored an offensive touchdown. They've got this bad offensive touchdown drought.
- 43:36Speaker 1: It's like nine or ten quarters now. And they almost
- 43:39Speaker 1: had it with T.J. Hockinson, and he goes down to
- 43:41Speaker 1: burn the clock.
- 43:42Speaker 2: If you focus on the NFC North, I know they've
- 43:44Speaker 2: beaten both Green Bay and the Bears. But I still
- 43:48Speaker 2: think Minnesota's probably, I think the Bears, the Lions, even
- 43:51Speaker 2: with their terrible defense, and the Packers are probably better
- 43:54Speaker 2: than the Vikings.
- 43:54Speaker 1: I don't know how good the Packers are. I saw
- 43:57Speaker 1: them up close and personal with the Bucs yesterday. Brooks,
- 44:00Speaker 1: this would be an interesting fact if it's true. The
- 44:05Speaker 1: Bears are 3-1. They've won all three of their games
- 44:09Speaker 1: with three different starting quarterbacks. I don't know if that's
- 44:13Speaker 1: ever happened in NFL history that if your first three
- 44:17Speaker 1: wins in a season have been with three different starting quarterbacks?
- 44:21Speaker 2: I would find it hard to believe. I would find
- 44:23Speaker 2: it hard to believe, too. But I am surprised we
- 44:24Speaker 2: have not seen that stat yet.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I looked at your bucks yesterday, and I wondered how
- 44:29Speaker 1: often you've had an undrafted free agent rookie starter. I mean,
- 44:34Speaker 1: that can't have happened much. I mean, a rookie starter
- 44:37Speaker 1: happens all the time, but an undrafted rookie starter? That's great.
- 44:41Speaker 1: I'm sitting here wondering how it's happened. Why has it
- 44:44Speaker 1: happened and how it's happened. Yeah. Normally, I bet if
- 44:46Speaker 1: it's happened before, it's like week 15. This is in
- 44:49Speaker 1: week four. I mean, that was your plan going in
- 44:51Speaker 1: was to have him as your QB2 with a guy
- 44:54Speaker 1: who runs the football all the time in Baker. Now,
- 44:56Speaker 1: I know it's not a leg injury, but it's a
- 44:58Speaker 1: thumb injury, but still. I got one for you, Brown,
- 45:01Speaker 1: that I randomly remembered. Connor Shaw started as an undrafted
- 45:05Speaker 1: rookie for the Cleveland Browns. Yeah. But that's the Browns. Yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 1: real NFL franchise. Actually good this year, Cleveland. Yeah, 3-1
- 45:12Speaker 1: after Thursday night. Yeah, that Minnesota offense will get them.
- 45:16Speaker 1: They will not stay. They're the biggest fraud of a
- 45:18Speaker 1: 4-0 that we've talked about. Well, and I think another
- 45:20Speaker 1: fraud at 3-1 is New York. I mean, Jameis played
- 45:22Speaker 1: well yesterday. Back-to-back wins for Jameis.
- 45:25Speaker 2: But Arizona had first and goal to win the game
- 45:27Speaker 2: and walk it off and couldn't get in. It was
- 45:29Speaker 2: a very weird play calling. Arizona's better than advertised, but
- 45:34Speaker 2: they're still 1-3. But Jeremiah Love, zero touches on that
- 45:37Speaker 2: final possession.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Jameis wins two straight starts for the first time since 2021.
- 45:44Speaker 1: This is from Karen, one of our great female listeners.
- 45:47Speaker 1: First time winning back-to-back games. I mean.
- 45:52Speaker 2: That's what he's paid to do.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:54Speaker 1: I'm with Lance. The Giants are a fraud, but.
- 45:57Speaker 2: You know, I think the only 4-0 that is legit
- 45:59Speaker 2: is San Fran. I am not buying... Kansas City being
- 46:02Speaker 2: that improved, I think they're good. And that was a
- 46:05Speaker 2: fun game to watch yesterday. But is Kansas City as
- 46:08Speaker 2: good as they were two years ago? Not sure.
- 46:10Speaker 1: There again, that's the problem for the Chargers. Same problem
- 46:12Speaker 1: we talked about with the Texans is the Chargers now
- 46:14Speaker 1: are going to have to track down Kansas City in
- 46:16Speaker 1: that division. The Chiefs also lost, we don't know how
- 46:19Speaker 1: long yet, Tyson Thornton at the end of that game.
- 46:22Speaker 1: So much so that immediately yesterday they were on the
- 46:25Speaker 1: phone with Tyreek Hill. Yeah, I just saw that report
- 46:28Speaker 1: from Schefter that Drew Rosenhaus is saying Tyreek Hill is
- 46:31Speaker 1: ready to play now and is starting negotiations. And the
- 46:34Speaker 1: Chiefs are probably going to be a favorite anyway, but
- 46:36Speaker 1: now that you're getting thin at receiver, they'll be even
- 46:38Speaker 1: more of a favorite. But that has been described as
- 46:42Speaker 1: basically a grenade explosion inside his knee. So I just
- 46:46Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, he tore every ligament in that knee.
- 46:49Speaker 2: I mean, is there a division right now after Buffalo's
- 46:53Speaker 2: loss where you're like, that team 100% is going to
- 46:55Speaker 2: win their division?
- 46:58Speaker 1: I would still say Buffalo is one. I know they
- 47:00Speaker 1: lost to the Patriots in Buffalo.
- 47:01Speaker 2: I would think they've got the best opportunity, but like
- 47:04Speaker 2: Jacksonville at 3-1, I feel.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Good about them. Yeah, I mean, Indianapolis is their.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Only challenge there. Kansas City at 4-0, but you've still
- 47:10Speaker 2: got Denver there. Denver didn't play bad yesterday defensively.
- 47:13Speaker 1: No, but their offense still.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Minnesota's not winning that division.
- 47:17Speaker 1: There's a lot to desire. I don't think Minnesota is.
- 47:19Speaker 2: And Carolina probably is going to win the South. But,
- 47:21Speaker 2: you know, if the Falcons come out tonight and they
- 47:23Speaker 2: offensively look really, really good... then I think maybe you
- 47:26Speaker 2: can flush the Cooper Rush starts and you can start
- 47:28Speaker 2: to build on something if you're Kevin Stefanski. And the
- 47:31Speaker 2: NFC West, I mean, I think the 49ers are going
- 47:33Speaker 2: to win it, but you wouldn't feel great.
- 47:35Speaker 1: No, not with Seattle out there. They seem to be
- 47:37Speaker 1: getting a little healthier with Mike Evans ready to play
- 47:40Speaker 1: this past weekend. Seattle, by the way, in their win
- 47:42Speaker 1: over the Chargers, 150 penalty yards. This is the note
- 47:46Speaker 1: I had seen earlier thinking it was college. They had
- 47:49Speaker 1: 150 penalty yards.
- 47:50Speaker 2: That's hard to do.
- 47:53Speaker 1: I mean, that is. Do you remember the 30 for
- 47:55Speaker 1: 30 on the Miami Hurricanes at that Cotton Bowl? What,
- 47:57Speaker 1: they have like 220? Oh, yeah. And they were trying
- 48:00Speaker 1: to get penalties and only got up to 220. And
- 48:02Speaker 1: you had 150 trying not to get them. That thriller
- 48:05Speaker 1: of a game last night with Carolina, the reason we
- 48:08Speaker 1: brought that back up is because earlier I'd mentioned that
- 48:10Speaker 1: Carolina looks like they're going to be the best in
- 48:13Speaker 1: that division. Boy, Detroit's on the wrong end of some
- 48:16Speaker 1: of these high-scoring games so far to start the year.
- 48:19Speaker 1: That That seems like a dangerous football team if they
- 48:22Speaker 1: ever could figure it out defensively.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing. I mean, right now they are
- 48:26Speaker 2: dead last in scoring defense. They're giving up 31 points
- 48:28Speaker 2: per game in the NFL. You can't do that. And
- 48:31Speaker 2: I do think the offense is being wasted. I mean,
- 48:33Speaker 2: what you've got with Gibbs, I mean, Goff is one
- 48:35Speaker 2: of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. You've got great receivers,
- 48:38Speaker 2: and you're just pissing it away.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Kid, that sounds crazy right now, and it's crazy to
- 48:44Speaker 1: even talk about it the first week of October. With
- 48:48Speaker 1: that disclaimer out of the way, Is Bryce Young in
- 48:51Speaker 1: the MVP discussion right now?
- 48:54Speaker 2: Two and two, I don't know. I mean, the offense
- 48:56Speaker 2: can't fourth best offense in football.
- 48:58Speaker 1: If he keeps playing like this, they're not going to
- 49:01Speaker 1: be a 500 record probably.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, Brock Purdy, they get the win yesterday,
- 49:04Speaker 2: but the numbers weren't there. Bryce has been spectacular for them.
- 49:08Speaker 2: I mean, he's got to be in the conversation right now.
- 49:10Speaker 2: It's very, very early.
- 49:10Speaker 1: You know who else is a good quarterback that never,
- 49:13Speaker 1: his fan base doesn't love on him enough?
- 49:15Speaker 2: It's Dak Prescott.
- 49:16Speaker 1: He's a pretty good quarterback.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Dak, he's very, very good.
- 49:19Speaker 1: He gets.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Lamb yesterday, 17 grabs, a Cowboys franchise record.
- 49:23Speaker 1: I mean, that's a dangerous football team. And I know
- 49:25Speaker 1: the Cowboys get talked about way too much by the
- 49:28Speaker 1: national media. But that's a good football team. Oh, it is.
- 49:32Speaker 2: The Eagles are still your favorite in Vegas to win
- 49:34Speaker 2: the East, but I think the Cowboys are going to
- 49:35Speaker 2: win that division.
- 49:36Speaker 1: What's surprising is how confused they look on defense, just
- 49:40Speaker 1: out of nowhere. They'll be like a good defensive stand,
- 49:43Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, they have let somebody
- 49:45Speaker 1: run free for a touchdown or a massive gain. Just
- 49:49Speaker 1: like no further back than last week against Baltimore, how
- 49:52Speaker 1: you give them the ball back with, what, 12 seconds
- 49:54Speaker 1: to go, and they're able to find an open receiver
- 49:55Speaker 1: in time to get in field goal range? I mean,
- 49:58Speaker 1: that cost them that game. Is week four when you
- 50:01Speaker 1: officially start worrying about teams or feel real confident in teams?
- 50:05Speaker 2: I don't know if you feel really confident, but you
- 50:07Speaker 2: start worrying. I mean, The Texans, back to it, the
- 50:10Speaker 2: Texans and the Chargers are dead. They're gone. First week
- 50:13Speaker 2: of October. That's crazy.
- 50:15Speaker 1: That's the D'Amico-Ryans press conference after they went 10-0.
- 50:18Speaker 2: You had us dead.
- 50:18Speaker 1: You had us gone. Buried.
- 50:20Speaker 3: Dead.
- 50:21Speaker 1: They are dead, though. Where are you on the Rams
- 50:22Speaker 1: right now? They seem very iffy.
- 50:23Speaker 2: I don't feel good about the Rams. They're not playing well. No,
- 50:27Speaker 2: they've got to get healthy. I mean, Aaron Donald was
- 50:29Speaker 2: out yesterday with a back issue, and I wonder if
- 50:30Speaker 2: that's going to be kind of a recurring theme when
- 50:33Speaker 2: they go east, if he's going to kind of sit
- 50:35Speaker 2: those games out.
- 50:35Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 50:36Speaker 2: But if you get Donald... And Myles Garrett back, Jalen Watson,
- 50:39Speaker 2: your other starting corner, didn't play yesterday. Your top two
- 50:43Speaker 2: tight ends were down yesterday. I mean, they've got to
- 50:45Speaker 2: stop making these stupid penalties, and they've got to get healthy,
- 50:47Speaker 2: which I don't know if they will.
- 50:49Speaker 1: In five seconds, if you had it to do over,
- 50:51Speaker 1: would you rather have Burst back and no Myles Garrett? Yes.
- 50:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:56Speaker 1: That was less than five seconds. I think you sort
- 50:58Speaker 1: of said that when the deal went down, that you
- 51:00Speaker 1: were very happy with Burst.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Well, they're saying this knee might be a real problem.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Sporting State, that's it for us. We continue on the
- 51:06Speaker 1: next round after this.
