- 1:01beauty of mountain spirit. Well, hello there everybody, out
- 1:10there in all the broad places of the the far wide world.
- 1:13Halen, welcome to this week's episode of the Random Heathen
- 1:16Ramblings podcast, a solo run for those of you who have been
- 1:21listening or watching my show for any length of time.
- 1:26That used to be the norm, You know, that used to be kind of
- 1:28the standard. That was what made this podcast
- 1:32what it was. It was a very isolated sort of
- 1:36just me speaking into the camera, speaking to nobody in
- 1:41particular, not really anything sort of conversational.
- 1:44But tapping back into those roots a little bit this week
- 1:50because the scheduled guest for this week's episode, as we say
- 1:56in the in the professional sector, no call, no show, right.
- 2:03And look I do my best to coordinate and plan with people
- 2:10who have expressed an interest or a desire to be on the show.
- 2:15You know we we we stay in communication.
- 2:18We confirm in advance of the show and even though I've got
- 2:24guests that are booked out, you know, sometimes weeks or months
- 2:28in advance, I always touch base with my guests close to time,
- 2:34you know, So within a week or so of our scheduled recording date,
- 2:38I'm always touching base and saying, hey, you know, just
- 2:41wanting to reconnect and make sure that we're all still good,
- 2:44which is what always happens. And so same thing happened for
- 2:49this week's guest, right? I was touching base with them
- 2:52last week and everything was good to go.
- 2:54You know got the got the e-mail back saying yeah I'll I'm
- 2:57booking it on my my calendar I'm I'm pinning it to my wall or
- 3:01whatever. The thing was that they said and
- 3:05sat around and waited in the studio for them to arrive.
- 3:10No, no, no arrivals, no communication as to why or
- 3:17anything and. I.
- 3:19Get frustrated with stuff like that.
- 3:21Just being honest with all of these because it does take, you
- 3:24know, I I I plan for these things.
- 3:26I even advertise in advance for you folks that are watching and
- 3:30listening this to be expecting something this in in the coming
- 3:34week, you know. And then when something pops up
- 3:38unexpected, like what happened this week and what's happened
- 3:40sometimes in the past where you know a guest that I had
- 3:44scheduled couldn't make it for whatever reason, It gets
- 3:47frustrating, you know. And I try not to think too
- 3:49deeply into it but to you know and and to give some grace where
- 3:53where there's like well you know things happen obviously life
- 3:57happens. You know you never know what's
- 3:58going on. So as frustrating as it is I try
- 4:02not to take it too personally and and and let it get to me too
- 4:05bad. But it does create a bit of a a
- 4:10challenge to have to think about.
- 4:13All right. Well, there's still content that
- 4:15needs to come out. And I am A1 show one, production
- 4:20one. I do it all right, I I I host
- 4:23the show, I produce the show. I book the shows with guests.
- 4:28This is not a team of people that runs vid Guard musings.
- 4:31This is not a team that runs the Random Heathen Ramblings
- 4:34podcast. What you see is what you got.
- 4:38So when, when, when there's things that are planned in book
- 4:42that that don't happen, it's up to me to kind of fill in those
- 4:47gaps and make sure that when there's something scheduled that
- 4:51we get something out here and something that's hopefully not a
- 4:54waste of people's time or or or whatever.
- 4:57So here I am just doing a solo run this week to give you guys
- 5:02something to to think about. And this is more coming from me,
- 5:07right? Like I was talking earlier about
- 5:09the old format of the show and how it was.
- 5:12It was more of a, you know, speaking into the void or
- 5:15speaking into the camera, not really speaking to anyone or
- 5:17having a conversation with anyone.
- 5:20Yeah, sure, speaking to an audience when the video comes
- 5:23out. But in the moment there is a
- 5:28just a just a camera, you know. So I think an advance of, well,
- 5:33you know, the audience that it's going to and and what might they
- 5:35want to hear. But a lot of that type of
- 5:38content that comes in that way comes from a place of my own,
- 5:44things that I'm going through or things that I may be meditating
- 5:46on or thinking about at the time.
- 5:48So here we are. I'm going into that bit of a
- 5:52solo headspace. What's been on Jesse's mind?
- 5:55What's been on the mind of this particular heathen in Middle
- 5:58Tennessee? So before we get into it, I do
- 6:02just want to call your attention for for those folks that are
- 6:04maybe new to this show, if you're listening to this on
- 6:09Spotify, there's going to be information in the show notes, a
- 6:13link tree, link that you can find for all the ways that you
- 6:15can support what I do in this capacity, You can follow me on
- 6:19those social medias that are LinkedIn, my link tree, you can
- 6:21buy merchandise. And for those of you that are
- 6:25watching this on Patreon, hello, welcome back.
- 6:30So if you're listening to this and you want to know what I mean
- 6:32by. That is that this podcast in its
- 6:35audio format is also. In video format, but you've got
- 6:39to come over to my Patreon to watch.
- 6:42Now, I'm not here to, you know, make life difficult for people.
- 6:48So if you want to watch this video or in if you want to watch
- 6:52any of the videos that I put out here, it's just a $1.00 pledge.
- 6:57You don't have to repeat that pledge coming back every month,
- 6:59but once you pledge that dollar, you have video access or you
- 7:02have access to the video versions of this podcast.
- 7:07Basically, since season five, most of my other seasons have
- 7:11already been released on YouTube, but everything in
- 7:14season five is is only on on here on Patreon in video format.
- 7:21So if you want to pledge a dollar, watch a bunch of videos
- 7:24and not renew, that's totally fine.
- 7:26You're under no obligation to have to do that, but it does
- 7:30help with supporting the the, the podcast production and the
- 7:34time that it takes for me to to record and do stuff like I just
- 7:37mentioned, right? Like things happen, right?
- 7:39You know, the plans that are made get have to get, you know,
- 7:42cancelled or rescheduled and there's all types of things that
- 7:45happen behind the scenes that make it frustrating for a A1
- 7:49person production crew to have to work through.
- 7:52So the dollar is appreciated. It it helps.
- 7:56You know, motivate me and keep me going on doing the video
- 7:59stuff. So all that's.
- 8:00In the link tree link that's in the show notes.
- 8:03And to my existing patrons and new patrons here on Patreon, if
- 8:06you're new here to the channel or to the to the, you know,
- 8:10Patreon platform, thank you so very much.
- 8:12And everybody else that's been here continues to be here
- 8:15supporting me, thank you all 10 * / 100 * / 1,000,000 times
- 8:21over. Thank you all so very much.
- 8:24There's different tiers also on the Patreon page, so if you're
- 8:27interested in wanting to support even more or you know you get
- 8:31more out of it. So I'm not going to bore you
- 8:33with the details. I don't have to explain it all.
- 8:34You just go to my Patreon, you'll see what ioffer and if it
- 8:38fits you rock on with it. So anyways, now that we've got
- 8:43all the announcements, you know, the the housekeeping stuff and
- 8:48like that out of the way, here I am to talk a bit about.
- 8:53What's on my mind? You know when I got and I was
- 8:55sitting here waiting for my guest to appear.
- 8:59Emailing them to say, hey, you know, here I am waiting, are you
- 9:04coming? And you know, an hour goes by
- 9:06and I get, you know, it's nothing.
- 9:08And so I'm like, well, I'm going to call it right, We're not
- 9:10going to do it this week. We'll we'll we will reschedule
- 9:12for another time if you're still interested.
- 9:16You know. We can, we can figure that part
- 9:18out at a later date. I did put out like a little
- 9:22message or or a call out there like, hey, you know, this is on
- 9:25my social media. I said, yeah, I didn't have a.
- 9:30It was a it was a no call, no show.
- 9:31Any suggestions. I did have somebody reach out
- 9:33and say, hey reach out to this person on TikTok and I go, well
- 9:36I don't use TikTok but anyway, what's on the mind, What's on my
- 9:43mind? You know one of the things that
- 9:47I continually see happening with some of the people who are are
- 9:52are very near and dear to me. So this is this is getting into
- 9:56some territory of intimate. Stuff, right?
- 10:01Like talking about relationships between a tribe or or or or
- 10:05members of a tribe. Not mentioning names, not
- 10:08mentioning very granular specifics or details, but just
- 10:13kind of the things that we face as individuals who are
- 10:18interconnected at a tribal level to whatever degree.
- 10:23You want to, you know, call it. So I've I've noticed or I've
- 10:30been exposed to things happening where people are really
- 10:35struggling it seems. With continuing to push or
- 10:45pursue their, say, responsibilities or their
- 10:51obligations with their respective tribes, there's a lot
- 10:54of things that come up in a person's life that call their
- 11:01attention to that thing that comes up.
- 11:03And some of those things that can happen in life, in an
- 11:09individual's life, take precedence over the other things
- 11:14that in the past they had put their the majority of their
- 11:18focus on, you know? Lifestyle changes, events,
- 11:23things that pop up, you know, just various things.
- 11:28I'm sure if you're watching or listening to this, this, this
- 11:32can resonate a bit. You know, you maybe found
- 11:35yourself in even at one time, you know, kind of committed or
- 11:41devoted to a group or a collective of people.
- 11:46And there was a lot of effort, a lot of drive being put behind
- 11:50what you were doing. And there was those those those
- 11:52efforts. And that drive was being
- 11:55recognized and noticed and it was doing good, you know, and
- 11:59then maybe something happened where you know it was like an
- 12:03unplanned sort of thing or the the impact if it was planned was
- 12:09more than what was expected. And then now all of a sudden
- 12:12that focus which was put on the efforts towards the group or the
- 12:20collective is now being shifted towards.
- 12:24What the individual needs, you know.
- 12:26So it can sometimes feel like there's a withdrawal from this
- 12:32group or collective feels like that person who was once so
- 12:36active or once so present in their way is now not as much.
- 12:42You know they're not, they're not.
- 12:44It feels like they're not invested as much anymore.
- 12:51And I think that can that can sometimes lead folks that maybe
- 12:56want to maybe jump to conclusions or you know come up
- 13:01with a a reason why without knowing the full details of
- 13:05things you know it it can really affect and impact the overall
- 13:11relationship that people have. With one another, you know, and
- 13:17I've I've, I've had to be exposed to things like this
- 13:23recently myself. And it's caused me to think of,
- 13:27well, how do we navigate through these moments, right?
- 13:31As a heathen myself, I look at what my worldview is on things
- 13:38and a lot of what my worldview is circulates around you know,
- 13:45we are our deeds. What we do is what solidifies
- 13:49our reputation. It's what solidifies our yeah,
- 13:55the reputation. But I mean by like giffrain,
- 13:57right. So that the the social sort of
- 14:01credit score that we're that we're known by.
- 14:04For lack of a better term, I think that giffrain and you know
- 14:07to use social credit score is a bit, I think that's AI think
- 14:10that's a good way to describe it for what gefrain is.
- 14:14So if you're new to this or you're not sure what I mean by
- 14:17that if you ever hear the word gefrain, that's basically what
- 14:20it is. It's it's the person's credit
- 14:23rating by you know a a broader audience what what people
- 14:26perceive you as what people know you as what your reputation is
- 14:31on a broad scale and that's it. That's an important thing.
- 14:36You know how heathens behave, should be done with, you know,
- 14:44with honor and and and should be done with honor in mind, right?
- 14:49What do I want to do? How do I want to act that
- 14:52preserves my honor, my luck, and then you know, the luck, the the
- 15:02honor of those that I'm interconnected with.
- 15:08When when when an individual heathen ties weird and and and
- 15:13becomes connected with other people, other heathens
- 15:18especially, you know, there's this, there's this thing that
- 15:21happens we've talked about before called Frith.
- 15:27Frith happens interpersonally. It happens amongst people.
- 15:31It doesn't happen long distance it doesn't happen.
- 15:36You know, or it doesn't really blossom or bloom into what it
- 15:38really is over long distance seeds might be planted, or
- 15:45there's, you know, things that can happen that can start.
- 15:49Action being you know, taken in that direction of securing and
- 15:53and maintaining and fostering that that Frith web, that first
- 15:57bond between people. But ultimately, even if, if, if,
- 16:01if, if something like that starts long distance, it has to
- 16:04happen ultimately in person, it has to be maintained in that
- 16:09way. You know, there has to be
- 16:14accountability. You know there's obligation
- 16:17involved with Frith. There's responsibility involved
- 16:20with Frith and you can't really hold people accountable or
- 16:24responsible to one another over long distance.
- 16:27It's hard to really measure that.
- 16:29It's hard to really quantify that.
- 16:30It's hard to preserve that degree of of a.
- 16:33Of a bond with someone or someone's.
- 16:36You know over over long distance.
- 16:38So when when things start out between one individual, 2
- 16:46individuals and then it expands and becomes you know several
- 16:50people or more, you know it's it's almost like it's impossible
- 16:56for it not to turn out where if if someone who was once focused
- 17:01or dedicated on the tribe, on the group and was putting a lot
- 17:06of their focus and their effort into it and who is now being
- 17:10pulled in a different direction or is being you know drawn into
- 17:15to to, to. Looking either towards
- 17:16themselves or toward other towards other interests, maybe
- 17:19within their own hearths and their own homes.
- 17:22You know, that type of thing can't help but impact the rest
- 17:27of the of the tribe. It's.
- 17:30When when one member rejoices, all the members rejoice.
- 17:36When one member suffers, all the members suffer.
- 17:38There's this thing that happens when you tie Frith tie weird
- 17:44when you when you establish Frith.
- 17:45And when you tie weird with people, there's this thing that
- 17:49happens that you know, without wanting to infringe on their
- 17:53private lives and without wanting to overstep the
- 17:55sovereignty of their own hearths, their own homes, their
- 17:59own space, their own lives. Regardless of that, you know,
- 18:03without wanting or or or wanting to do anything like that, you're
- 18:07still feeling an impact of what their choices, their decisions,
- 18:12their movement has made on you as a member of that body, you
- 18:16know, as a member of that tribe, you know.
- 18:21And sometimes it can feel like you know, you're, you're being
- 18:26neglected. Like, what about me?
- 18:30You know, what about the rest of us?
- 18:32Why aren't you putting all your why aren't you giving us some of
- 18:34your attention? Why aren't you giving us some of
- 18:36your, you know, focus and stuff like that?
- 18:39And it can be, you know, I I think that there's a bit of a
- 18:42human tendency, you know, in us all to feel when attention has
- 18:52shifted away from us as an individual, whether we're part
- 18:56of that group or not. But if if, if focus is being
- 19:00shifted away from us as in any sort of way that we're, you
- 19:06know, there's there's this tendency in us to to feel
- 19:09selfish. But well, again, what about me?
- 19:11Why aren't you doing this thing? And I and I, it's it's a
- 19:16dangerous path to go down to, to to think that the person who is
- 19:20shifting their focus or shifting their thoughts, their attention,
- 19:24their energy somewhere else, you know it's dangerous to think
- 19:27that they're doing so to neglect you as a person.
- 19:37If if we get towards thinking that too much, then I think
- 19:41where we where we are as individuals is, is not where the
- 19:45tribe should be. And why that?
- 19:48I mean, yes, the tribe is is a collective of individuals.
- 19:55It's it's an amalgamation of smaller units.
- 19:59So there's clans, there's there's families that make up
- 20:07the tribe. You know, ultimately where an
- 20:13individual's obligation and responsibility lies should be.
- 20:17At their hearth? In their clan?
- 20:19At their home. And that hearth or that clan,
- 20:22that home could be them and themselves or them and their
- 20:26partner, their spouse, their mother, their father, their any
- 20:30other sort of construct of the family unit that is ultimately
- 20:37where their responsibilities lie.
- 20:40And if they're neglecting those responsibilities or if they are
- 20:46finding themselves putting too much effort into something
- 20:51outside of that, then they're not feeding their own roof tree.
- 20:54They're not. They're not.
- 20:55They're they're not tending to feeding and and nourishing.
- 21:02What is their first and foremost responsibility, you know.
- 21:12And so if we if, if, if a person who is a part of a tribe has
- 21:20maybe a bit more freedom because of their hearth structure,
- 21:26right? Maybe they're not devoted to
- 21:29another individual. Maybe they don't have a a
- 21:31partner or a spouse, a family member or anything like that.
- 21:34Maybe their hearth is just themselves, you know?
- 21:37So maybe that person is a bit freer, you know or or or more
- 21:42available to invest their time and towards, you know, other
- 21:47things, other tribal affairs, a bigger picture sort of scenario.
- 21:53Or maybe they've. Doing that for so long that that
- 21:58sort of set a precedent, that sort of set an expectation for
- 22:02the rest of the tribe where they're like, well we know that
- 22:04this person is reliable and and expected to do XYZ, you know,
- 22:09whatever that thing is. And and then when something
- 22:13comes up where they have to shift or they're they're feeling
- 22:16a bit out of balance and they're like, well, I need to go back
- 22:20over to this side and then focus more on these things.
- 22:23Well then, well where does the responsibility go that you once
- 22:26had to do these things? You know let's say for example,
- 22:32you know, I don't know a no. Let's let's let's let's say for
- 22:36example like a Chieftain has responsibilities to the tribe to
- 22:40be able to you know, plan events and and host events you know and
- 22:46and provide for for the rest of the group by means of food and
- 22:52drink, for for events, right. Maybe that's their
- 22:54responsibility just using hypotheticals here and that's
- 22:58been their responsibility because that's what's been you
- 23:02know required of them and they've met those
- 23:04responsibilities. They've met those obligations
- 23:07time and time and time again. And then maybe that Chieftain or
- 23:14chieftess, whatever right, has a life experience or has a thing
- 23:21happen in their life that requires them to focus more on
- 23:26their inner hearth, their inner yard, their immediate can or
- 23:32their immediate family. And then because of that the
- 23:36things that the tribe once expected that Chieftain or
- 23:40Chieftain to perform or do is is is falling a bit behind or there
- 23:46is there is a lack there, there's there's there's a bit of
- 23:48an imbalance going on, you know. So what happens in those
- 23:53situations? Well, a well ordered tribe, a
- 23:55well ordered unit like that realizes and recognizes when one
- 24:02of its members, one of its key members is in need.
- 24:07You know, they're not just going to sit back on their asses, you
- 24:10know, they're just not going to lay back on the laurels.
- 24:12And they're like, well, he'll figure it out.
- 24:14She'll figure it out. We'll just sit here and wait for
- 24:16them to do it. No.
- 24:18What does the tribe do? The tribe comes together and
- 24:20says, well, how can we help, right.
- 24:23What can we do to provide for food or drink for an event?
- 24:26How can we help plan an event? What do you need us to do?
- 24:30Where can we help? They come together because they
- 24:33see the need is there to perform these functions right and and
- 24:44and they're not just going to expect that performing body,
- 24:48that functioning body, that functioning limb of the body
- 24:50maybe to carry all the burden when it's having to shift its
- 24:56focus elsewhere. How do we come together?
- 24:58How do we find a solution? What can we do again to to
- 25:03accomplish what's needing to be accomplished.
- 25:06And I say earlier that you know a well ordered tribe, that's the
- 25:11mark of a well structured, a well ordered unit, A well
- 25:14ordered tribe. You know the people are there
- 25:19for one another. You know there's there's not
- 25:22really this, sure there might be order in the sense of, you know,
- 25:27structure, hierarchy, right. There may be people with titles
- 25:30or or or positions of responsibility, and in those
- 25:35positions of responsibility comes titles and all this and
- 25:38that. But when it comes down to the
- 25:40brass tacks of things, those titles kind of get pushed aside
- 25:48when it comes down to the real nitty gritty stuff.
- 25:50And that's where I go back to with acting with honor.
- 25:55Why would a tribe, Why would a well ordered tribe do these
- 25:59things without having to be asked to do it?
- 26:02Without having to be prompted to do it?
- 26:04Why would this be something built in?
- 26:06It's because their honor and their luck, everything's like
- 26:09it's on the line, right? Well, if I fail to do this, it's
- 26:12not just my honor that is damaged.
- 26:14It's not just my gefrain that's damaged, it's everyone else.
- 26:20It's the whole tribe's reputation, right?
- 26:23So if one member is doing something kind of fishy or or
- 26:27not meeting their expectations, well, that's a reflection on the
- 26:30whole tribe. That's a reflection on the unit,
- 26:33especially if it's done by somebody of a in a position of
- 26:38leadership, you know. So if the chieftain's not
- 26:40fulfilling their duty or the go of the isn't fulfilling their
- 26:42duty or the, you know, the law speaker, the fuel, the, you
- 26:45know, whatever your unit might have, you know, the the, the
- 26:49naming, the namings of their positions, their titles.
- 26:54If those people in those positions aren't fulfilling
- 26:57their obligations, that's a bad look.
- 27:01That's bad luck, That's that doesn't look well.
- 27:03That doesn't bode well for the tribe and the tribe.
- 27:08The members of the tribe expect more of their leaders and it
- 27:12then that's how it should be. I think you know that if if
- 27:15you're in a position of leadership, then there's, you
- 27:18know everything that the tribe is expected to do, you are
- 27:21expected to do and then some like you have a you kind of set
- 27:25at a higher standard than everybody else.
- 27:30But that doesn't take away from the fact that when things happen
- 27:34or when there is a need, that it is recognized by everyone else
- 27:38and they and they want to come together and they want to help.
- 27:41It's like, look, I'm not trying to overstep here, but there is a
- 27:45need, right? Like we need to procure the meat
- 27:51for the feast, right? We need to have a space for our
- 27:56bloats. We need to have someone to, to
- 28:00lead the ritual, right? We need to, you know, whatever
- 28:02the case may be, what can we do? How can we procure the need when
- 28:09things arise, when things happen?
- 28:15I know there's going to be some people that listen to this or
- 28:17that, watch this or both that are probably going to be like, I
- 28:24know what it is that you're talking about.
- 28:27And to be honest, there's a lot of things that are inspiring me
- 28:30to want to talk about this. It's not one particular thing
- 28:34because I do see a lot. I do observe a lot.
- 28:36There's not just things that I'm personally or intricately
- 28:39involved in, in the in the capacity that I serve in, in my
- 28:42community and with my tribe. But there's other things that I
- 28:45see and observe that are happening on a broader scale, on
- 28:50a much wider spectrum. So if the chute fits, you know,
- 28:59as they say, then then wear it, I guess, right.
- 29:04If if if something is of what I'm saying resonates, then it's
- 29:12probably because that's the facts, right?
- 29:14Like it's, you know, things are happening there.
- 29:16There's things going on that I'm not the only one observing it.
- 29:20I just may be the only one right now saying it.
- 29:23And I I surely can't be, you know, I'm sure that there are
- 29:26other creators or there are other people, whether they are
- 29:30creators or not on on on content platforms, right.
- 29:33Whether their social media platforms are used for content
- 29:36creation. I'm sure that they have
- 29:39experiences with what I'm talking about right now where
- 29:41they're feeling this pull away from or or they're feeling like
- 29:47maybe some of their people are are feeling a pull away, you
- 29:50know? And it's not like a pull in in
- 29:52the sense of they want to be severed, you know.
- 29:57It's not that they want to be done with the group.
- 30:01It's that maybe there is a a need for them to to heal or to
- 30:07focus or to discover certain things themselves that they
- 30:12can't do while also being held to this responsibility, this
- 30:20obligation. And so, in a way, them stepping
- 30:25away or or or moving aside or or figuring things out is an act in
- 30:30itself of honor. You know, it is an honorable way
- 30:32to realize, like, hey, I know what my responsibilities are, I
- 30:37know what my obligations are, and I'm in a place right now
- 30:41where I just can't fulfil that. I want to be.
- 30:43I know I need to be. I owe it to everyone else, not
- 30:47just myself, but I owe it to the tribe right to to get there.
- 30:53I just need some time to figure it out.
- 30:56And so I feel like if it's done in that sort of way, if it's
- 30:59done with transparency and you know speaking to the to the
- 31:04people that need to be spoken to and you know things shared as
- 31:09much as needing to be shared, that again, that transparency,
- 31:12that honesty that goes back to the Frith thing.
- 31:15You know, we can't be Frith bound to one another if we're
- 31:21keeping secrets, if we're hiding things, if we're not being
- 31:28transparent and open enough with the interest of the group's luck
- 31:33in mind, you know, there's not to say that everything needs to
- 31:38be shared, that we need every little nitty gritty detail
- 31:42opened up to about. But when it comes to certain
- 31:46things, it's like you know if, if, if a group is is seeing
- 31:49their respective leader, whether it's their Chieftain, their
- 31:52Ghazi, their Ghia, whatever it is.
- 31:56You know, if if the people are seeing that person kind of
- 32:02withdrawing a bit or not getting as involved, it's going to raise
- 32:07questions. They're going to want answers.
- 32:10There needs to be a healthy way to work with respective leaders
- 32:18and and those leaders communicate transparently with
- 32:21their with their tribe. You know again there should be
- 32:26no secrets and and because again what that what that does is that
- 32:29fosters the community that fosters the bond and it
- 32:33strengthens the bond that should have been there to begin with.
- 32:37Hey this is what's going on. We have a member.
- 32:40We have a part of our body who is in need right now and while
- 32:46they are figuring things out, it is on the rest of us to kind of
- 32:50pick up the slack, you know, and this, this this can't be
- 32:54something too foreign for a lot of folks.
- 32:56You know what I mean? I'm sure there's people that
- 32:59have worked in in a you know certain industries maybe that
- 33:03have even served in the military that that know this this this
- 33:08sort of thing that I'm talking about.
- 33:09You know the the chain is only as strong as its weakest length
- 33:14and and and so when when there's a broken chink in the chain or
- 33:19or link in the chain is broken, it's you got to get to you got
- 33:27to you got to put attention to that and you got to, you got to
- 33:31give attention to that and you got to come together to, to help
- 33:35carry some more of that burden. You know, like, yeah, I
- 33:42remember, I remember growing up in New York working on a farm as
- 33:46a kid and you know, we raised beef cattle.
- 33:52And there was, there was a time that I can remember where the
- 33:58population, the, the community that we were a part of was of
- 34:03such a size that we would need to, you know, we would need to
- 34:09have enough beef for the year. 2.
- 34:14Two steers were slaughtered in the spring. 2 steers were
- 34:18slaughtered in the fall and I I think even before that, before I
- 34:25was old enough to start doing that, that there were sometimes
- 34:28more. You know, sometimes you do three
- 34:31in the fall and two in the spring.
- 34:32Why? Well, because, you know, winter
- 34:36was a longer season of of where you didn't have a garden and you
- 34:42couldn't, you know, do stuff like that.
- 34:44And so you'd want to have more meat in the freezer.
- 34:48And so you you, you tend to do more towards the end of the year
- 34:50to have enough to last until the next slaughter.
- 34:54You know, I remember there were certain people in the the
- 34:58community that was raised in who were, you know, designated
- 35:02individuals for those activities.
- 35:06You had a person who was dedicated to putting the animal
- 35:11down. You had a person who was
- 35:14dedicated to going in there and so the way that the way that the
- 35:19steer slaughters would work is you would you would you would
- 35:23render the animal unconscious usually with with a with a tool
- 35:26or with a with a low caliber rifle you would pop in their
- 35:31head either the the the round from the rifle which is like a
- 35:3422 and all it would do is just knock them unconscious right.
- 35:38There's other non like ammunition means to do it, but
- 35:44we had just like a either a small, you know, 22 pistol or 22
- 35:49rifle and all it does is just knock them out.
- 35:53So there was a designated person for that and he had designated
- 35:55person that would go in and they would you know slit the animal's
- 35:59throat to bleed it out. And the reason why is because
- 36:02the animal's still alive and the heart's still pumping and you
- 36:04want to get all that blood out of the system, right?
- 36:07Anyway, designated person for that designated person to start
- 36:11do and everybody had a role, right?
- 36:13There was a there was a very well ordered structure to when
- 36:19we would do these things. Everybody knew their place,
- 36:21everybody had their place. Everybody knew where to be, when
- 36:23they had to be there, what they had to do.
- 36:27And there were times where you know, you know at at one
- 36:30particular event, you know one particular slaughter, that you
- 36:35know that person who was designated for it was, you know,
- 36:39not there. For whatever reason, they were
- 36:41unable to be present. Maybe it was an illness, maybe
- 36:44it was an injury, maybe it was just whatever the case was, they
- 36:48weren't there. And So what ends up happening is
- 36:52that responsibility gets delegated or shifted to somebody
- 36:56else. In that moment, we still were
- 36:58able to accomplish what we needed to accomplish.
- 37:02We were still able to fulfil our obligations as a group and we
- 37:05were still able to do what we had to do.
- 37:08But it was due to us knowing that and having that Frith bond
- 37:13between one another to step up and be like, what do you need me
- 37:17to do? You know, that means I got to do
- 37:19a little bit extra work or if I need to, you know, wear many
- 37:22hats, that sort of thing, right? What can I do?
- 37:26How can I help and just be accessible that way and we get
- 37:29it done. And I love that.
- 37:32I love that. I was given that opportunity in
- 37:35my youth to grow up and learn those types of values because it
- 37:39is really first of all just shaped me into the individual
- 37:44and to the person that I am. But it's also given me a lot of
- 37:48a of of a good foundation for my from for me to grow as a heathen
- 37:54you know, to to to realize and know what some heathen values
- 37:58are. When you say you are going to do
- 38:03something, you don't say things lightly.
- 38:06You don't put your word into something and then just shrug it
- 38:10off. Oh well, oops or oh, I don't
- 38:12feel like it or whatever. If you say you're going to do
- 38:14something, you stand behind it. And it may not be so severe or
- 38:19as you know, heavy duty as, say, like an oath.
- 38:26But nonetheless your your word kind of establishes that
- 38:30expectation. And if you're negating on your
- 38:33word, if you're not following through on what you're saying,
- 38:36then that doesn't do well for your your frame.
- 38:40That doesn't do well for your reputation, because nobody can
- 38:42rely on you if you can't follow through and do the things that
- 38:46you say that you're going to do. Your your your trustworthiness
- 38:54goes down, your worth diminishes, your your frame is
- 39:01damaged. So you know, one of the things I
- 39:08always go back to when I talk about Tribe and and Heathenry
- 39:12and write the grassroots Heathenry, you know, the the
- 39:14Hearth you've heard me mention before, Hearth, Hearth is the
- 39:20home, you know. And Eric Shervin, who has been a
- 39:27guest on my YouTube channel before, he has a YouTube
- 39:30channel. Eric Shervin, if you look on
- 39:32YouTube, just look up the Ravens call.
- 39:35Eric Shervin. And it's spelled SJERVEN.
- 39:44Believe I spelled that correctly.
- 39:47But yeah, Eric Shervin, the Ravens call, he's talked about
- 39:50this before too. And I think he's really the one
- 39:52that, at least I've heard it said this way is, you know,
- 39:56heathenry is where the hearth is.
- 40:01It all goes back to the hearth, ultimately, you know.
- 40:04So yeah, sure we like to talk about you know heathen tribes
- 40:08and heathen groups and and all of this, you know, sort of big
- 40:12scale. You know we've got you know
- 40:1450-60 whatever, 30 people gathering and we're all you know
- 40:19assembled together and we're doing bloat and it's this big
- 40:21assembly. It's this big gathering that
- 40:22looks impressive. That sounds cool and it's great
- 40:27but Heathenry is where the hearth is your people you know
- 40:34and and and that's where it comes down to is who your people
- 40:38are. Who are your akin.
- 40:40Who are your kith. The extension of your maybe your
- 40:42blood relatives are even stronger ties than than your
- 40:45blood relatives are in some cases it's very small.
- 40:51It's it's it's small groups. You know, I've I've talked in in
- 40:58a lot on different episodes and just thought about it myself.
- 41:02You know how great it would be to have this sort of like a you
- 41:06know, confederation or or yeah, just all the heathen tribes.
- 41:15You know, however big they are, whether it's, you know, 3A group
- 41:19of three or four in one section of the state and then a group of
- 41:2315 or 20 in another state and then a group of 50 in another
- 41:27region, you know, and now we all can come together and meet and
- 41:30how great that would be. Yeah, sure, it looks great and
- 41:32sounds cool, but ultimately Heathenry is where the hearth
- 41:38is. You know, you start branching
- 41:41out too far away from the hearth and you know, there's there's
- 41:44too many factors that can come into play.
- 41:46There's too many. Some things just don't blend,
- 41:52you know, Some things just don't mix and they shouldn't.
- 41:58There's some things that just shouldn't mix.
- 42:01You know, gasoline and fire don't mix.
- 42:06They work well in their own way for their own reasons.
- 42:08But you don't mix the two. Why 'cause boom, you know what I
- 42:13mean? So there's there's that.
- 42:18But, but it does like when it comes to the the the
- 42:22structuring, the the, the building, the the, the fostering
- 42:25of a tribe, right? It is an extension of family.
- 42:28And you do run into these times and these moments where it
- 42:32becomes challenging. Like, man, you know, you may be
- 42:38sitting back and going, you know what, the Frick is wrong with
- 42:40you people. What is?
- 42:41Why won't you do this? Why can't you do that?
- 42:43What is? Why can't you pull your head out
- 42:45of your own ass, this sort of thing, because of whatever's
- 42:50going on and, you know, there's that emotion that comes in
- 42:53because again, you feel like you're you're being neglected in
- 42:55a way. Why aren't you doing this?
- 42:57Why can't you put your focus back in here like you used to,
- 43:01you know, or whatever, or well, bigger picture stuff.
- 43:05Maybe there's some grace that needs to be exhibited, you know,
- 43:09an understanding. And that's that's an important
- 43:12part of I think, being an honorable person, being a human
- 43:17with honor, you know, is not being so reactive to things.
- 43:21It's, you know, there there, there are times when it's
- 43:27necessary to be like Thor and then not to think so much before
- 43:34action. It's just to do and just to
- 43:35execute and just to, you know, lay the hammer down and and and
- 43:38be that sort of brute, unbridled strength and and force.
- 43:45You know, there's times for that, but I think more often,
- 43:51you know, there's a bit more finesse, there's a bit more
- 43:54grace, there's a bit more wit, you know, at times, what can we
- 44:03learn from some of the sagas? What can we learn from some of
- 44:05the stories? There was talking about sagas
- 44:10and stories like there was a recent example, and I'm not
- 44:12going to give too great details, but there was a recent example
- 44:15that I was exposed to that kind of fits the discussion.
- 44:19And there was a it was, it was, it was regarding a cartoon.
- 44:25And you know, this person didn't want their child to be exposed
- 44:31to this particular cartoon because they said that this
- 44:35cartoon was promoting, you know, a lifestyle amongst its
- 44:41characters that they didn't agree with.
- 44:45You know, we're living in a time now in the world and in society
- 44:49where people's lifestyles are under attack, you know, people's
- 44:54way that they feel comfortable existing and being identified in
- 44:57the world are are regularly put in in, in under attack, you
- 45:05know, And this person was not wanting their child to be
- 45:07exposed to a cartoon because they felt that this cartoon was
- 45:11portraying its characters in a way that they didn't agree with.
- 45:15You know, it's sort of like an identity thing.
- 45:20Well, come to find out, right, that the context of everything
- 45:24was that this, this particular cartoon has an offshoot, you
- 45:30know, sort of like an extension of its main production in the
- 45:35form of a film, you know, a movie, you know.
- 45:41And in that movie, there was a scene where this, this, this
- 45:43cartoon character, you know, makes a choice on a very off the
- 45:49cuff on a whim sort of decision. You know, they were, they were
- 45:52faced with a decision and instead of taking the time to
- 45:56think about their decision, they acted on impulse, They reacted
- 46:01out of emotion, they reacted out of a desire or or whatever.
- 46:06And they're they're what that reaction caused Was them to be,
- 46:12you know, transformed or or looked at in as as as a
- 46:16different creature has a different version of themselves
- 46:19than they were before. And like people like to twist
- 46:23things like that. Oh, there's some sort of
- 46:24subliminal message, you know, be happy in the skin you're in.
- 46:29You know, it doesn't matter what it looks like.
- 46:31It doesn't matter. Just be happy.
- 46:35Well, the context of that scene wasn't about that.
- 46:38It was about, well, look what you did.
- 46:39You you reacted too quickly. You you didn't think about the
- 46:45repercussions of your actions. You didn't stop to think about
- 46:48it. You reacted hastily, you know,
- 46:53and now you have to deal with this awkward moment.
- 46:56And that was what the message was really about.
- 46:58It was be patient, you know, and this is a children's cartoon,
- 47:01right? This is, this is a cartoon that
- 47:03was geared towards children to teach them certain values of
- 47:08wait your turn, be patient. These types of things that we,
- 47:11you know, as adults now, we look back, well, these are things
- 47:14that we teach our children, you know, to be better suited for
- 47:18them growing up and and interacting with other children,
- 47:21their age and other people and stuff.
- 47:23Right. Be patient.
- 47:23Wait, your turn. And it was just a, it was
- 47:27interesting to hear the argument about this isn't what I want my
- 47:31child to be exposed to because I I don't want them to to think
- 47:34that they can just, you know, you know, put on this set of
- 47:38clothes or be this type of person and and think that it's
- 47:41OK And it's like, whoa, whoa, wait a minute.
- 47:42That's not what this is about. First of all, that was a movie,
- 47:46a scene from a movie that was trying to teach children a
- 47:48certain value of patience, right?
- 47:55And you're going to misconstrue it and be like, I don't want
- 47:57them watching this cartoon, period.
- 48:00The cartoon that has nothing to do with this.
- 48:02It's a series. It runs concurrent.
- 48:04It has, you know, weekly or daily, whatever new episodes
- 48:07that come out and you're going to, you're going to, you're
- 48:10going to take that bigotry, that hatred, that that closed minded
- 48:15view of things, of of of a scene that I guarantee you they
- 48:20probably never even saw the movie.
- 48:22They just heard about it on an article from, you know, some,
- 48:26some, some, some news site or something, probably somewhere
- 48:28trying to push an agenda. You know, Propaganda's a thing.
- 48:31But I don't, I don't even know where I started with where I
- 48:36went off. It felt right at the time.
- 48:38It felt like a good segue into that.
- 48:39But anyway, you know, like it's not everything is what it seems.
- 48:44Sometimes reacting just out of reaction doesn't doesn't get you
- 48:49anywhere except into more hot water it puts you.
- 48:52You know, I've I've, I've run into situations myself where I
- 48:55saw something, I reacted out of it, and then I learned more
- 48:58about it afterwards and I go, I should have thought more about
- 49:05my actions before I took them. That was not a situation at
- 49:10that, you know, particular juncture of my path that
- 49:12required me to just jump and not think.
- 49:18So there's, you know, there's repercussions to things like
- 49:20that and taking, you know, responsibility when it calls for
- 49:26it is is necessary and it's important.
- 49:29So in conclusion, there are things going on with people
- 49:34nowadays. A lot of people, myself, others,
- 49:38everybody's got things going on in their own lives sometimes.
- 49:43Those lives that you know were once intertwined and interwoven
- 49:48more deeply or more intricately outside of their hearth, cults
- 49:52outside of their hearth, their their family units right there,
- 49:55their individual clan structure, whatever.
- 49:58Even if it's just themselves in an apartment or in a home,
- 50:06they're having to shift their focus more and learn more about
- 50:11themselves, or figure more about themselves, or get through
- 50:14things themselves. It's not, it's not right for for
- 50:21for us to jump to conclusions and think that they're, you
- 50:25know, failing in in in some sort of way.
- 50:32If anything we should be accessible, right?
- 50:37I don't want to pry. I don't want to push not trying
- 50:38to and and and and respect boundaries, right.
- 50:42Respect the boundaries that those people set up and also
- 50:46respect ourselves to set up certain boundaries.
- 50:49You know, because if we just want to oh, I'll help you any
- 50:51which way possible, right? You can lean on me.
- 50:54You can cry to me. I'm an I'm an ear I'm a
- 50:55shoulder, right. That's all well and good.
- 50:59If if if some of us are more empathetic and and some of us
- 51:02have more of a tendency to feel things from others.
- 51:05What is their plight What is what are what are things that
- 51:08they're going through doing to us too.
- 51:10And and are we then capable of of being that that rock or that
- 51:13that positive influence in their lives or are we going to take
- 51:17what they're saying or hearing what they're saying and and you
- 51:20know twisted in some sort of way that that that makes it feel
- 51:24personal to us. All sorts of things that go on
- 51:27with individuals and in the way that I'm Speaking of that are
- 51:31are worthy of of consideration. I think, you know not every hat
- 51:36is is suited for every head, OK? Not every suit is suited for
- 51:43everybody. So, you know, live with grace,
- 51:49realize that there's a lot going on with people and be there for
- 51:53the people that we need to be there for and respect boundaries
- 51:56and respect their own boundaries and step in when you need to
- 52:01step in, you know, if there's a group or there's a an extension
- 52:06of yourself that you know of your or of your clan or of your
- 52:09tribe that you're, you know, bonded with in some sort of way
- 52:12and you see another member struggling, don't hesitate to be
- 52:17like, hey, I don't want to overstep, but I'm here to help.
- 52:19What can I do to help? How can I help?
- 52:22And then listen to what those people say.
- 52:26Don't try to do things your way. Gosh I've I had to learn that
- 52:31lesson hard and I'm and I'm and I'm so hard headed.
- 52:33I've had had it beaten over my head countless times.
- 52:37You know don't try to help that person your way.
- 52:40Help them their way. Listen to their language and and
- 52:47and do what they need you to do in their way.
- 52:50If they're literally laying it out in front of you and telling,
- 52:52well, this is how you can help me, well, don't be deaf in this
- 52:57ear. And and and do it your way and
- 53:01on on on the other you know, help people the way they need to
- 53:05be helped. Such a delicate thing.
- 53:09Right. It's like, yeah, you want to
- 53:13help people but you're like, oh, I think you could really benefit
- 53:16if you did it this way. It goes back to the whole grace
- 53:19thing, you know. And it's a delicate dance that
- 53:25we all dance that way that we all go through.
- 53:27You know, we it's wild, wild times, man, wild times we're all
- 53:34living in. So I feel like if I just don't
- 53:38shut up now then I'll continue to make less sense than what
- 53:41I've made-up to this point. So hopefully this has been an
- 53:46episode that you're going to find interest or value in.
- 53:49Again, sorry for the the the missing guest this week.
- 53:52One of those things where, you know, make do the best we can
- 53:57with what we've got and you know hopefully the guests that I had
- 54:02scheduled this week, we can reschedule for a later time
- 54:04because I know it was a topic that got a lot of interest
- 54:06circulated around it on my social medias.
- 54:08There were some comments and stuff in in the in the post that
- 54:13I had made on Facebook about it and I was really looking forward
- 54:16to to going into it some more. But things happen for a reason,
- 54:19you know, everything happens for a reason.
- 54:21So if it happens, it happens and if it don't then it don't and we
- 54:25just keep on keeping on. So thank you all so much for
- 54:29listening to and or watching this week's random Heathen
- 54:34Ramblings episode. I hope you liked it.
- 54:36If you did, share it around, upvote it.
- 54:39You know, if you're watching this on Patreon Smash, that
- 54:42little heart button tells me the algorithm that you like it and
- 54:45maybe drive some more people towards it.
- 54:49So you never know what what your actions might do to help others
- 54:54discover stuff like this. And anyways, whatever you do,
- 55:00just listening and watching to this is, is support in and of
- 55:03itself. So thank you so very much for
- 55:05doing that. That's about all I think I've
- 55:10got, ladies and gentlemen. So until we talk and hear from
- 55:15each other again, may the gods continue to notice you.
- 55:19May your ancestors smile upon you.
- 55:22See you in the next one.
