Ep. 4042 The CULTURE WARS Are Hiding These Shocking TRUTHS!!! · Turley Talks

0:00
[SPEAKER_00]: The liberal globalist order is on its brink and awakening a new conservative age.
0:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Dr. Steve Turley, join me every day as we discover answers to today's toughest challenges and explore the re-bondalization of conservative civilization.
0:18
[SPEAKER_00]: This is Turley Talks.
0:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, it's me, Dr. Stephen, I'm here in Atlanta for the Repairing Rooms Conference for the ACCSC Association of Classical Christian Schools, and I'm here with one of the founders of ACCSC Doug Wilson.
0:34
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a pastor and author of and I don't even know how many books at this point.
0:41
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't either.
0:43
[SPEAKER_00]: I remember once I was interviewing you and you told me you write in order to make the voices in your head go away.
0:49
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's awesome.
0:51
[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing I say is I write the same reason the dog's bark.
0:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I first encountered Doug's writing my, I was thinking about this ago that I think it's 25 years ago with his recovering the lost tools up learning, which there is a Minneapolis version, such a lost tools of
1:17
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I couldn't have helped with that.
1:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Larry, Larry, it's one of the most influential books if not the most influential books and education in the last 30 years, you and Dorothy Sayer, it's worth quite the one-two punch.
1:34
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, she knew nothing about it.
1:37
[SPEAKER_01]: She was already in heaven, right?
1:40
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a pretty good she did comment, I have no inkling yet that it's going to... No expectation, no expectation, but anybody will be foolish enough to try this.
1:51
[SPEAKER_01]: She was not banking on that.
1:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, have challenges.
1:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and so the most reading, if you haven't read it, if you're interested in this classical cooking renewal, but Doug has been gracious to be on our channel a number of times in the past and now we get done.
2:08
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
2:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
2:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Wonderful.
2:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Wonderful to have you.
2:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, what are you speaking about tomorrow in your planaries?
2:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, what time it is, what time it is in the light of eternity?
2:21
[SPEAKER_01]: But the problem with right-wing reactionary, well, revolutionaries are inpatient by definition.
2:30
[SPEAKER_01]: But reactionaries are equally inpatient.
2:33
[SPEAKER_01]: And Christopher Dawson once said that the Christian Church lives in the light of eternity and can afford to be patient.
2:39
[SPEAKER_01]: And so how do we fight in the moment, which we need to be fighting, because things are critical, we need to be fighting.
2:51
[SPEAKER_01]: rather than just superficial talking points.
2:55
[SPEAKER_01]: So my argument that I'll be presenting is that classical Christian educators are arguing for the West at the tectonic plate level.
3:07
[SPEAKER_01]: And right wing reactionaries, however, whatever good points they might make are talking points that they're talking about curb appeal and moving the bush and painting the shutters.
3:17
[SPEAKER_01]: And we're talking about earthquakes.
3:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
3:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
3:20
[SPEAKER_01]: And so there's a, I would regard the true culture, the Andrew by Breitbart said that politics is downstream from culture, but culture is downstream from worship.
3:33
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
3:34
[SPEAKER_01]: But then in between worship and culture is culture formation, which is education and I want to tell the people that if you were, if you were to talk about the people who are doing the most serious work to fight the culture wars, they're in this room, that's what education is all about.
3:55
[SPEAKER_01]: And sadly, some classical Christian school teachers say, I don't want to be in
4:03
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to be involved.
4:04
[SPEAKER_01]: I just want a quiet classroom where there's discipline, and I love to teach the Odyssey, and that kind of thing.
4:11
[SPEAKER_01]: But that's kind of like saying, I want to buy a little cottage for it.
4:16
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to write my novel, and I want peace and quiet, so they buy a little cottage in 1944 on Omaha Beach.
4:27
[SPEAKER_01]: It was my morning in the way, I'm my little getaway, early June, I ride it.
4:33
[SPEAKER_01]: I would have loved it.
4:37
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was Tolstoy, not Tolstoy, Tronsky.
4:41
[SPEAKER_01]: you may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.
4:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you care about permanent things, if you care about transcendental values, the most high god, and you believe that that has a cultural impact, then you're in the thick of it.
4:59
[SPEAKER_00]: You can't get away from it.
5:00
[SPEAKER_00]: You can't get away from it.
5:01
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's also, it's a historical in the sense, because Pidea really was the polys and microcosm.
5:07
[SPEAKER_00]: It was, I forget, who had said that education is the transference of civilization, and in all of it's...
5:16
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all of it's going, and the idea that you could kind of sequester the political public realm from that, it's impossible.
5:23
[SPEAKER_01]: So in Ephesians 6, Paul says, to just fathers, bring up your children in the Nurture and Admonition of the Lord.
5:31
[SPEAKER_01]: And one of those words underneath the Nurture and Admonition is Pidea.
5:34
[SPEAKER_01]: And Pidea is a big,
5:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Now.
5:39
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
5:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
5:40
[SPEAKER_01]: So if if I were talking to someone and what do you've been doing, I'm catching up with someone, well, I just finished writing a three volume history of table salt.
5:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
5:52
[SPEAKER_01]: I'd say, you know, friends, maybe.
5:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you should ask a girl out, yeah, go buy a snow cone or something, you need to get a life.
6:05
[SPEAKER_01]: But if someone said I just finished the three volume series on democracy, it's three democracy.
6:09
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a big word, I mean that could use that three volume treatment.
6:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I use that illustration because on my library, at home I've got a three volume history of the word by the end.
6:24
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not a guy thrown his life away.
6:27
[SPEAKER_01]: He's talking about something that for the Greeks was huge.
6:30
[SPEAKER_01]: It was the inculturation of the next generation.
6:34
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Paul tells Christian fathers to give that to their kids, the Pidea of the Lord.
6:42
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and they might say, but there is no Christian culture to give pass on to them.
6:47
[SPEAKER_01]: And he would say exactly.
6:49
[SPEAKER_01]: That's how you get one.
6:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
6:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
6:51
[SPEAKER_01]: You start.
6:52
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
6:53
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a pidea of the Greeks.
6:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
6:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Pidea of the Romans.
6:55
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a pidea of the Lord.
6:57
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
6:57
[SPEAKER_00]: He'd be good.
6:58
[SPEAKER_00]: That's so cool.
7:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
7:01
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
7:01
[SPEAKER_00]: Right there.
7:02
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's there's there's a vision of
7:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Christian civilization right there, isn't it?
7:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yeah, I think it necessitates what Paul said there necessitates what actually happened over the next hours of years.
7:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
7:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
7:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
7:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Literally the birth of a whole new world.
7:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of, we were just talking before we went live here, I came back from Brazil,
7:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Dave Goodwin and, yeah, you know all about it.
7:34
[SPEAKER_00]: I think actually I talked to some guys you were there.
7:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I went down there.
7:37
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, Elmer, I think it's Elmer.
7:40
[SPEAKER_00]: Elmer, he says hello.
7:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, oh, we're good.
7:43
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's a great guy.
7:45
[SPEAKER_00]: But eight years ago, they had zero classical schools.
7:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I mean, it was hard to get a straight number.
7:54
[SPEAKER_00]: I got 40, 50, or 60.
7:57
[SPEAKER_00]: And then it seemed like they all had waiting lists of several hundred.
8:05
[SPEAKER_00]: It Dave saw, I saw his face when he was talking to people and they said, oh yeah, we started last year and now we have 600 students.
8:15
[SPEAKER_01]: it's massive.
8:16
[SPEAKER_00]: It's mad, there is no other word or what, what do you make of that?
8:20
[SPEAKER_00]: That's interesting.
8:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think that Brazil, for many Brazil, Brazil is the size of the United States.
8:27
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the second largest christian nation on the planet.
8:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's huge.
8:31
[SPEAKER_01]: And I flew there from Dalai, I flew to Sao Paulo.
8:35
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot of life.
8:38
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like 10 hour flight.
8:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Most of which was over Brazil.
8:43
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a huge country, and they have many of the same dynamics upheaval political dynamics that all the Trump stuff here and the Bolsonaro stuff there, and the hard leftists, you know, there's a
9:04
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a fight going on for the soul of Brazil and the future of Brazil.
9:08
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's gotten a lot of people aware that this education is relevant to all this, right?
9:16
[SPEAKER_01]: And we were done having the people that we don't trust to manage our roads.
9:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's right.
9:25
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's right.
9:26
[SPEAKER_00]: You deserve roads anymore.
9:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
9:29
[SPEAKER_00]: But here are all my children.
9:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
9:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
9:32
[SPEAKER_01]: It's having your kids educated by the DMV.
9:37
[SPEAKER_00]: That would be absolutely a step up, yes.
9:40
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the parallels are pretty crazy in other words, they put, well, they had their own crazy election, 22, the way they put Bolsonaro and prison after were like what they tried to do Trump, they tried to kill him, he stabbed them and all that sort of stuff.
9:56
[SPEAKER_00]: And it was really neat when I was down there in 2018, they were all homeschooling and they smiled and said, you know, it's illegal.
10:04
[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, so how are you doing this?
10:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was already in favor of it.
10:11
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't need to sell me.
10:13
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, how are you doing?
10:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's see.
10:15
[SPEAKER_00]: And I remember them saying, let's see them enforce it.
10:17
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, you're my peeps.
10:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I love you guys.
10:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
10:20
[SPEAKER_00]: You're amazing.
10:22
[SPEAKER_00]: It is incredible.
10:22
[SPEAKER_00]: And but it's a spreading beyond.
10:24
[SPEAKER_00]: We're getting more clumbia throughout Latin America.
10:29
[SPEAKER_00]: obviously the Fiki in Africa, Mexico and now we're starting to see the schools pop up in Hungary, Poland, even Ukraine.
10:39
[SPEAKER_01]: ACCS says they're first accredited international school in Hungary.
10:49
[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like this was ground zero for a civilizational renewal of the West.
10:56
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
10:56
[SPEAKER_00]: It's astonishing thing.
10:57
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
10:58
[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
10:59
[SPEAKER_00]: You're at the forefront of it.
11:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what is a God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God
11:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Civilization of projects I actually wanted to chat with you a little bit about the rising civilizationless world that's happening and I want to get your take on this.
11:39
[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of scholars were talking about how China and Russia or civilization states, Modi and India's, you know, introducing Hindu to a, which is kind of like a Hindu version of Sharia law.
11:55
[SPEAKER_00]: So they're not secular, they're not liberal, they're civilizationalists, and it seems to me that classical Christian education is precisely the kind of education for just such a world.
12:08
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we would need in such a world.
12:10
[SPEAKER_00]: So if the 21st century is genuinely like Huntington talk about a kind of a clash of civilizations of civilizational visions,
12:22
[SPEAKER_00]: our students for civilizational confidence, rather than just personal virtue, God bless personal virtue.
12:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're not against it.
12:30
[SPEAKER_00]: We're not against exactly, and that's what I kind of, I get into, I row some people on.
12:36
[SPEAKER_00]: I love human flourishing, I talk about it all the time.
12:39
[SPEAKER_00]: But it seems like for such a time as this, we also need, like we're talking about this, full-pi-duedic civilization.
12:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I think this is a key issue.
12:53
[SPEAKER_01]: In Christian societies, historic Christian societies, the thing to avoid is what I call cut-flower civilization, where it's a beautiful vase, it's a beautiful arrangement,
13:08
[SPEAKER_01]: It's lovely, altogether lovely, but there's no root ball, you can't snip it off.
13:16
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you have a cut flower arrangement that goes back to Winston Churchill, or it goes back to 1776.
13:26
[SPEAKER_01]: that's not far enough.
13:28
[SPEAKER_01]: This has to be deep top soil and this goes back to the point I made earlier about worship.
13:37
[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen, I don't think that Christian schools can flourish outside of a worshiping community.
13:45
[SPEAKER_01]: So the kids need to be going to school taught by teachers who are going to the same church that the parents and many of the kids are going to and they're worshiping God and what they're doing on Monday and Tuesday is consistent with what they're hearing on Sunday instead of pastors who are afraid.
14:03
[SPEAKER_01]: to say anything about Christian Ed because we have public school teachers in the congregation and that kind of compromise.
14:12
[SPEAKER_01]: And then what we need is a robust civilizational approach that says the root ball is critical.
14:25
[SPEAKER_01]: And the root ball is worship.
14:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Do we really believe this stuff?
14:33
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to scratch and sniff Christianity, I want the real thing and what we say in Moscow is all apprised for all of life.
14:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And that means all of Christ for all of that means all of Christ for all of education, every stage, every pattern, every era of child development, all of it.
14:55
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I heard you put you can't fight the culture wars without a culture and you can't have a culture about a coat.
15:02
[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to have that cultus, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult of the gods, not the cult
15:22
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, there are many aspects of American culture, Western culture that I've been enjoying the Europeans react to, enjoying how big are you in the Middle East?
15:33
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a petrol station.
15:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for the Japanese.
15:37
[SPEAKER_00]: For the Japanese.
15:37
[SPEAKER_00]: For the Japanese.
15:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a lot of fun.
15:40
[SPEAKER_01]: However, that kind of fun is not long lasting, without people who are going to have in every week.
15:49
[SPEAKER_01]: I, and, and worshiping God through Jesus Christ, and it's, and, and it can't be happy clappy breezes breezy, Jesus is my girlfriend, music, you know, he said, he said,
16:22
[SPEAKER_00]: I think we're seeing particularly in Red America, how fun, faith, family, and freedom is.
16:29
[SPEAKER_00]: That's really what the relationship is.
16:31
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
16:31
[SPEAKER_00]: We could be with this world cup of roasting, how fun it is.
16:36
[SPEAKER_01]: To be normal.
16:37
[SPEAKER_01]: How fun is it to be normal?
16:39
[SPEAKER_00]: It's absolutely.
16:39
[SPEAKER_00]: And just to be able to enjoy, again, you get to celebrate your culture, your past and your tradition.
16:44
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a four days to, you know, what we see it.
16:48
[SPEAKER_01]: And you can do it.
16:49
[SPEAKER_01]: without being a bigot, right, exactly, you could have them over and show them all that, show off all the stuff and then be happy to go to their country and have them show.
17:02
[SPEAKER_00]: I think there are studies out there that are from the 2016 election that people who would vote for Trump were more inclined.
17:13
[SPEAKER_00]: toward appreciating other cultures and traditions and nationalisms.
17:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Then the globalists kind of liberal cosmopolitan.
17:24
[SPEAKER_00]: They love like third world stuff, but anything western they can stand.
17:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
17:30
[SPEAKER_01]: And people, back in the early days of classical Christian education, we used to, now it's DEI and Woke stuff, but back then it was multiculturalism, and I used to say, look, we start teaching Latin to third graders.
17:48
[SPEAKER_01]: We, you know, the old joke about a person who speaks too languages is bilingual and person speaks three, it's tri-lingual.
17:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Person who speaks
18:00
[SPEAKER_01]: But when we start teaching exposing kids to cultures that are not like theirs, upstream from theirs, that are historically connected to theirs, but there are many, many different thought forms and
18:13
[SPEAKER_01]: different ways of expressing yourself.
18:16
[SPEAKER_01]: So they are reading literature, great literature, from thinkers outside the Christian tradition.
18:23
[SPEAKER_01]: And so I would say, we are actually practicing multiculturalism.
18:29
[SPEAKER_01]: And you guys, the idea of multiculturalism is everybody's a different color, but they all think the same.
18:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, right, like a Benedictine ad, or something like that.
18:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then some get to be
18:41
[SPEAKER_00]: ethnocentric, and then others have to just be sovereign individuals.
18:44
[SPEAKER_00]: We can't sell great ethnocentricness.
18:47
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a jumbled mess.
18:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Now it seems we're seeing with some of these elections particularly in New York.
18:52
[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's kind of like, you know, the third world is clash with civilizations coming home, coming to our shores.
19:00
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, unless we have a very vibrant civilization's
19:06
[SPEAKER_00]: I think we can end up being swept up by that.
19:10
[SPEAKER_01]: But fortunately, and this is an ongoing real-time huge social experiment.
19:18
[SPEAKER_01]: I was just watching something about the boom belt.
19:23
[SPEAKER_01]: States like Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, that whole belt, well Idaho is right at the top of this, but it's not part of that belt.
19:34
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, the sunshine, the sunshine belt.
19:37
[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, if that belt were extractively in that state, it would be the fifth largest economy in the world.
19:42
[SPEAKER_01]: And you think, okay, I've a year or two ago, I just for Grins, I looked up the U-Hall rates from Portland to Boise.
19:53
[SPEAKER_01]: and then from boy City Portland and it was like 10x difference.
19:58
[SPEAKER_01]: It was like $90 versus $900.
20:00
[SPEAKER_01]: And you can see, you can see which way this is going.
20:05
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, California is empty.
20:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't.
20:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
20:09
[SPEAKER_00]: And that negative migration.
20:10
[SPEAKER_01]: And then if you have, if Mondami does everything he wants to do in New York City, you know, real address in Miami, you're going to say, let's open a branch office.
20:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, ma'am Donnie, who would thank you, or something like that?
20:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Karasia's Mum Donnie, yeah.
20:25
[SPEAKER_01]: He'll start getting boxes of chocolates from my amyery-litters.
20:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, what is it, uh, is it, uh, Exxon Mobile, you know, going all the way back to their rock a color, 144 years in Jersey.
20:36
[SPEAKER_00]: God, they're interested in how they're done, they admit that they have an out-of-board meeting in Jersey in 40 years.
20:41
[SPEAKER_00]: They're done, and it's just it's again It's just it seems to me it's just the it's the Achilles heel of Urban socialism is that you know the moment you get into this tax Ben and and also this woke mom sounds we start demonizing people
20:57
[SPEAKER_00]: They just say, you know, if I just moved two miles up the road and I could go over that district line, I could escape everything.
21:05
[SPEAKER_00]: They can't do it.
21:06
[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess that's why they have to shut down countries like Venezuela.
21:10
[SPEAKER_01]: But what's going to happen is there's going to be a lot of these companies moving.
21:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Jobs are going to move.
21:15
[SPEAKER_01]: families are going to move people with mouths to feed and are going to follow the jobs and then there's going to be a resurgence of education in those places and the blue states are already in a doom loop and basically it's a human tragedy because these cities were once
21:39
[SPEAKER_00]: used to be woodstay.
21:40
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't get it.
21:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Nixon, Reagan, what's this?
21:43
[SPEAKER_00]: It's horrible.
21:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Young, just curious, just a bit of a pivot here with, because you mentioned, like, tanks and, you know, and so forth, pivot over the idea of the relation between tradition and technology.
21:57
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to actually talk to you about this a little bit.
22:01
[SPEAKER_00]: It's interesting because the civilizationalism is put us in like an AI arm's race where the idea is he who controls AI controls the world and we don't want China controlling the world.
22:14
[SPEAKER_00]: And I bring it up because I think classical educators tend to be, they're talking a lot about technology, but they also tend to be and God bless them, I think maybe because they have to be.
22:24
[SPEAKER_00]: but they're also a little myopic with it, you know, talking about it in the classroom, or maybe even abstaining from it, but they're not seeing it, they're not seeing technology as an expression of civilisationless power and and and and an extension.
22:41
[SPEAKER_00]: So I just curious, just it seems that this
22:44
[SPEAKER_00]: This notion of technologies a form of civilizational strength it elevates the question to a different level.
22:56
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll also kind of, you know, post mill sort of level.
23:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Have you thought about that?
23:02
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I've been wrestling with this.
23:04
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm a, yes, you've got a point.
23:09
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you've got a point.
23:14
[SPEAKER_01]: who have all the discernment of a five-gallon wet-back.
23:20
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, they just, you know, I'm gonna adapt to Seiji's.
23:25
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna have my iPhone do my thinking for me and they just are early adapted.
23:29
[SPEAKER_01]: And then the people, the lot I,
23:33
[SPEAKER_01]: where they don't want to have anything to do with it, which I think, frankly, is going to be impossible.
23:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Even the homicide might be interesting with that.
23:43
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so you got a smart buggy.
23:48
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't want a smart buggy, but I'm sorry, that's all they make now.
23:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, that's not a horse.
24:00
[SPEAKER_01]: So basically, there are people who have drawn an arbitrary line on AI, like AI is a freaky thing, but everything has to do with discernment.
24:08
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what are you asking it to do?
24:12
[SPEAKER_01]: And what are you refusing to ask it to do?
24:14
[SPEAKER_01]: So, and it's going back to what I said about worship and devotion, the thing that worries me about AI is the tech lords who want to, they want to rule the world, and transhumanism, and they want to be God.
24:33
[SPEAKER_01]: And so I typed into Grock, I'm a ten-year-old sophomore, and I'm starting to
24:44
[SPEAKER_01]: And, Grock didn't hesitate just within seconds, gave me a little devotional, and it makes all the connections.
24:53
[SPEAKER_01]: It makes all the connections, and say, okay, you've got this technology that does not hesitate to pretend to be God, to pretend to be Jesus.
25:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And I would say that that is wicked, that kind of thing is wicked.
25:07
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a pastor somewhere that,
25:10
[SPEAKER_01]: simulated his voice with AI.
25:12
[SPEAKER_01]: And lonely parishioners can call up the hotline and get counsel.
25:16
[SPEAKER_01]: The pastoral chat with someone who's not their pastor.
25:22
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd say that too.
25:28
[SPEAKER_01]: That's wicked.
25:29
[SPEAKER_01]: But if someone said, hey, we've got this gnarly fracture bone fracture, and we need someone to read
25:37
[SPEAKER_01]: X-rays in the world to tell us what to tell us what to do.
25:42
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that kind of thing is, yeah, priceless.
25:47
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the union.
25:48
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
25:50
[SPEAKER_01]: And so our problem is not that we are technologically adept.
25:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Our problem is that we're theological morons and technologically adept.
26:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
26:01
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a bad place to be, and all the more reason for doubling down on building Christian schools and teaching kids to think, be suspicious of the right things, be welcoming of the things that the Bible doesn't condemn, use discernment, don't cheat, don't cut corners, don't have you pay, I write your papers for you, don't have a, I write your sermon for you.
26:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Right, right, isn't just a little bit of integrity and all right there.
26:34
[SPEAKER_00]: So in that spirit, no, I'd love that.
26:36
[SPEAKER_00]: It's wonderful.
26:37
[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's obvious it's something we're going to have to be.
26:39
[SPEAKER_00]: The theology of technology is going to have to be there.
26:43
[SPEAKER_00]: You mentioned that they want to be lower to the world.
26:46
[SPEAKER_00]: There is something people talk about multi-clarity.
26:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, there's something called techno polarity.
26:51
[SPEAKER_00]: OK.
26:51
[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, these more is a technology and technologists.
26:55
[SPEAKER_00]: And so really fascinating stuff.
26:58
[SPEAKER_00]: So just in line wrapping this up, this line with the civilizational renewal, you've written, you've spoken extensively about the renewal, Christian society, mere president of the book, and a sort of a chrysanthemum 2.0.
27:16
[SPEAKER_00]: So, what's your assessment of where we are right now?
27:20
[SPEAKER_00]: We're in a pretty astonishing time and then it's ambiguous and it's a crazy and lots of dynamics going on.
27:29
[SPEAKER_00]: But politically, culturally, pedagogical, ecclesiastical.
27:36
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, big picture, just give us your overall assessment.
27:39
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like where we are right.
27:40
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like Christmas every morning.
27:42
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
27:46
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot at the end of Hebrews.
27:49
[SPEAKER_01]: It says, God is a shaker of things.
27:53
[SPEAKER_01]: God shakes civilizations.
27:55
[SPEAKER_01]: And he says in Hebrews, so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28:01
[SPEAKER_01]: God's stress tests civilizations.
28:04
[SPEAKER_01]: And we're in the middle of one right now, this is, I think, not to change the subject, but I think we're in the middle of a fourth turning, a fourth turning.
28:13
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this is not going to go on forever, I generation.
28:17
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're going to punch through.
28:18
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that a lot of things that needed to go are collapsing.
28:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
28:24
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm good riddance for about 80% of it.
28:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
28:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks a lot.
28:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks a lot.
28:30
[SPEAKER_01]: There are some things that are getting caught up in things that are being rejected or thrown out that I'm dismayed by, hey, you're overreacting, baby bath water thing.
28:44
[SPEAKER_01]: And so we have to hold the line there and be, you know, like the resurgence of neo-Nazis.
28:50
[SPEAKER_01]: We are way, way, way, way, you know, come on.
28:52
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
28:58
[SPEAKER_01]: So there are that kind of thing.
29:01
[SPEAKER_01]: But I do believe it's the old Chinese curse, may you live in interesting times.
29:06
[SPEAKER_01]: And we are really living in interesting times.
29:13
[SPEAKER_01]: what 10 years from now is going to look like, and this is the thing.
29:19
[SPEAKER_01]: In Ecclesiastes, we're told in God's word, there's nothing new under the sun.
29:24
[SPEAKER_01]: None of the fundamental principles change.
29:27
[SPEAKER_01]: worshiping God matters, telling the truth matters, working hard matters, finding a woman and being faithful to her for the next 50 years matters, bringing up your children to all of these, it's just the basic blocking and tackling of those those matters of reality.
29:44
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, and so those are the things that we hang on to.
29:49
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, parents asked me now about certain things that we did when our kids were little, we didn't have to face, right, you know, entertainment things, you know, if someone had asked me back in the day, what do you do on streaming services?
30:05
[SPEAKER_01]: I'd say, what's that?
30:13
[SPEAKER_01]: So basically there are unique challenges, and you have to make adaptations, and log us school, we have no smart phones at school, right?
30:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Because we want you learn how to do this.
30:26
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, not that smartphones are evil, but not here, not here, not now, you have to do the problem yourself, right?
30:36
[SPEAKER_01]: And you have to do the research yourself, you have to look it up.
30:40
[SPEAKER_01]: And so things like that where you, if you're handling things with shrewdness and emphasizing the basics of integrity,
30:50
[SPEAKER_01]: and you are willing to adapt and utilize technology.
30:55
[SPEAKER_01]: I see, you know, the fact that I can write a blog post and click on the button.
31:04
[SPEAKER_01]: And 30 seconds later, somebody in New Zealand is reading it.
31:07
[SPEAKER_00]: It's incredible.
31:08
[SPEAKER_00]: It's incredible.
31:10
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
31:10
[SPEAKER_01]: So how is this not?
31:13
[SPEAKER_01]: like the printing press, you know, it's what you do, it's what you do.
31:18
[SPEAKER_01]: So, for here's another example, sometimes in Nancy and I are on the road, we stop in our restaurant or something and we're at a place where we've got coverage.
31:32
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're checking, we're checking our phones, the waiter comes up and I say, we're not texting each other.
31:42
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but one of the things that's striking to me is when Nancy and I were first married.
31:49
[SPEAKER_01]: I'd go to work, she could call me during the day, and the phone was attached to the wall and had a long, had a long court, she could call me, and I could talk on the phone, and we maybe once a day or something like that.
32:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, now our family has a text, you know, signal threads, and people say, well,
32:18
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, in our family, it's the Nancy runs up to Spokane.
32:24
[SPEAKER_01]: She takes a picture of a dress, the any of your girls want this for your kids, and there's a chair.
32:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Plus is enough.
32:32
[SPEAKER_00]: It's part of it.
32:33
[SPEAKER_00]: It enhances the situation.
32:35
[SPEAKER_01]: So everything is, what are you doing with the tool?
32:38
[SPEAKER_01]: It is the tool, something that you're using to cultivate, cultivate actual relationship.
32:44
[SPEAKER_01]: with Pete, your people, so some of my great grants are in Michigan, my grandson and Laws in grad school, Hillsdale.
32:55
[SPEAKER_01]: And so just yesterday Nancy called her great grandchildren and read them a book over FaceTime.
33:05
[SPEAKER_01]: So is this driving people a part?
33:08
[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's what you do with it.
33:13
[SPEAKER_01]: If you've got the buds in and you're listening to music all day and you're playing your own soundtrack for your own personal movie and you never talked to anybody, that is a problem, right, but it's a personal problem.
33:26
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a technology problem.
33:27
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not obsessive.
33:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
33:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
33:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Where could people continue to follow what you're doing, your amazing work, and it's Doug Willes.com.
33:39
[SPEAKER_01]: DougWilles.com is the address.
33:41
[SPEAKER_01]: The name of the blog is Blog and May blog, and we set it up so that if you open up the front page, there's a portal or a link to pretty much everything I'm involved with on the front page.
33:51
[SPEAKER_01]: ACCS, Canon Press, a lot.
33:53
[SPEAKER_01]: Logos, school, new send Andrews.
34:11
[SPEAKER_01]: That was the funniest thing that was the funniest thing in the world.
34:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to read that?
34:16
[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to read that?
34:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't believe it.
34:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Like in 2016, when you were a friend, could you imagine looking at, Doug, in 10 years, you're going to be on the cover with Donald Trump, J.D.
34:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Vance looking angry, Pam Bondi, Pete Higgs at yelling at somebody, and then mean in the right.
34:36
[SPEAKER_01]: I think those other people are looking at the camera.
34:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Who's that guy?
34:41
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, that's fascinating.
34:46
[SPEAKER_00]: It was wonderful to be honest.
34:48
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, let them do whatever they're going to do.
34:51
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think there's more trees to that.
34:53
[SPEAKER_00]: But in ways they can't imagine.
34:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
