- 1:45show kicked off.
- 1:46All right, everyone, this is Inspirations for Your
- 1:47Life.
- 1:48It's Tuesday, like I said, June 2nd, 2026.
- 1:52This is series five or season five, however
- 1:54you look at it.
- 1:55It is show 23, episode number four, and
- 2:01we're talking about understanding discipline, self-control, and
- 2:04consistency, and exploring resilience, endurance, and, of course,
- 2:10toughness.
- 2:11Who am I, guys?
- 2:12Oh, sure.
- 2:12I'm John C.
- 2:13Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:19podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, and
- 2:22a passionate lifelong learner.
- 2:24So great to be with you, and now
- 2:25very grateful to be an author.
- 2:27So welcome, everyone, to Inspirations for Your Life,
- 2:30the show that helps you become just a
- 2:31little bit better than you were before.
- 2:34So thank you so much for sitting back,
- 2:36enjoying, and soaking up this great content to
- 2:39make your lives and the ones you care
- 2:41about so much better.
- 2:44All right.
- 2:45So this is the master build, your life
- 2:49with discipline, growth, and ownership.
- 2:52Now, as I was saying before and today,
- 2:55I'm diving deep into understanding discipline, self-control,
- 3:00and also consistency with a sharp focus on
- 3:04exploring resilience, endurance, and toughness.
- 3:09If you've ever felt like, I don't know,
- 3:12quitting, like the pressure is just too much
- 3:17for you to handle, or like motivation just
- 3:19isn't enough right now for you, this episode
- 3:22is exactly what you've been waiting for and
- 3:25you need.
- 3:26I'm going to break down 28 powerful principles
- 3:29today that will transform how you handle challenges,
- 3:34stress, failure, oh, and of course, adversity.
- 3:39All right.
- 3:40So this isn't theory, guys.
- 3:43This is my real-world discipline that builds
- 3:46unbreakable resilience.
- 3:49Are you ready for point number one?
- 3:51Are you sure you're ready for number one?
- 3:52All right, let's get into it.
- 3:53Number one, guys, this is the point where
- 3:58you accept challenges without hesitation.
- 4:01Because see, every great success starts when you
- 4:06step into the unknown instead of waiting for
- 4:09the perfect conditions, the perfect moment.
- 4:12We all know those perfect conditions, those perfect
- 4:14moments, they don't happen, guys.
- 4:16They don't happen.
- 4:17Number two, this is the point where you
- 4:21stay calm under extreme stress.
- 4:24Because you see, your ability to control your
- 4:27emotions determines whether you rise or fall when
- 4:33everything hits hard, or like a lot of
- 4:34people like to say, when things hit the
- 4:36fan.
- 4:38But I know that a lot of you
- 4:39out there are saying to me, John, you
- 4:41don't get my life.
- 4:43And I said, I'm not here to get
- 4:45everybody's life, but I am here to understand
- 4:47that we've all had challenges, okay?
- 4:49And everyone thinks their challenges were harder than
- 4:51the next, and I'm not going to compare,
- 4:53but I'm going to tell you that we've
- 4:54all had it challenging, okay?
- 4:56And so this is where, let's say, the
- 5:03actual thing hits the rubber.
- 5:06And number three, this is the point where
- 5:10you don't quit early, and you push through
- 5:13because most people fail, not from lack of
- 5:16skill, but from quitting before the breakthrough actually
- 5:20happens.
- 5:21Then they're like, oh, it didn't happen to
- 5:23me.
- 5:23I spent all this time and nothing happened.
- 5:26You know, you were so close.
- 5:29You were so close.
- 5:31Why'd you give up?
- 5:32You see, ladies and gentlemen, the only difference
- 5:34between success and failure is that successful people
- 5:38just have learned to hang on just a
- 5:41few seconds longer.
- 5:42That is the only difference between success and
- 5:46failure.
- 5:47That's it, guys.
- 5:48That's the only difference.
- 5:49Number four, this is the point where you
- 5:53adapt quickly to any situation because, you see,
- 5:55the world changes fast.
- 5:58And I don't know if you know this
- 5:59or not, but your ability to pivot determines
- 6:03whether you survive or you get left behind.
- 6:07And you might say, well, gee, John, somebody's
- 6:09going to take care of me.
- 6:10Yeah, but you can't rely on that, guys.
- 6:12You need to have your own way.
- 6:15You need to have your own system.
- 6:18Number five, this is the point where you
- 6:21push through discomfort daily because, you see, growth
- 6:25happens in the uncomfortable zones.
- 6:30Avoiding pain, discomfort means avoiding progress forever.
- 6:33And a lot of us say, you know,
- 6:34I'm just going to stay comfy.
- 6:35I'm going to stay here in my chair.
- 6:36I'm going to stay here nice and warm.
- 6:38Or I'm going to stay here nice and
- 6:39cool with the air conditioning or whatever it
- 6:40is.
- 6:41I'm going to stay right where I am
- 6:42because I know I'm comfortable.
- 6:43I know I'm safe.
- 6:45OK, great.
- 6:47But you're also not going to grow.
- 6:50Well, that's OK.
- 6:51I really don't need to grow.
- 6:52I've grown enough.
- 6:56The question I ask you is, are you
- 6:59happy with where you are right now?
- 7:01And by happy, I mean, have you created
- 7:03what you want to create?
- 7:05Or are you still like, I'm working on
- 7:07it.
- 7:07It'll happen eventually.
- 7:09No, it won't.
- 7:10Not if you have that attitude.
- 7:11OK.
- 7:12Number six, this is the point where you
- 7:15build emotional control now because your reaction to
- 7:19stress, failure, and pressure define your character more
- 7:23than your wins ever will.
- 7:26Number seven, this is the point where you
- 7:30stay solution-focused always because focusing on problems
- 7:36drains you while focusing on solutions empowers you
- 7:41to move forward.
- 7:42You know, it's how we look at something,
- 7:44right?
- 7:44So if we see that the solution is
- 7:49actually in the problem itself, we're going to
- 7:52go far.
- 7:53If we don't see that, then you know
- 7:56what's going to happen?
- 7:57We're going to be left out and saying,
- 8:00gee, why isn't this working for me, right?
- 8:03Why isn't this working for me?
- 8:05And I can tell you that it's about
- 8:09who you are and what that means to
- 8:14you.
- 8:14OK.
- 8:16And I can tell you that it's not
- 8:19about just today.
- 8:22It's about everything in your life.
- 8:25Everything.
- 8:26And everything causes you to either feel drained
- 8:32or empowered.
- 8:37Something as simple as putting things down digitally
- 8:40and taking them off a piece of paper
- 8:42can really help you stay untressed.
- 8:47John, what is that going to do?
- 8:49We see the more we take off of
- 8:50our mind, you know, and there's so many
- 8:53people out there, lots of other coaches out
- 8:55there, and they want to charge you a
- 8:58fortune.
- 8:59But you know, the thing is, they don't
- 9:02really know what it's about.
- 9:06They think they know what it's about, but
- 9:09they don't know what it's about.
- 9:10And they're hoping that you're just going to
- 9:16do whatever you need to do and just
- 9:18keep paying them.
- 9:20But how can that happen when they don't
- 9:25even know themselves what to do?
- 9:28I call that a con job.
- 9:30Number eight, this is the point where you
- 9:34learn from setbacks fast, because every failure contains
- 9:38valuable data.
- 9:40And the slower you extract it, the longer
- 9:42you stay stuck.
- 9:45The longer you stay stuck.
- 9:49That's a problem.
- 9:53And you might say, well, gee, John, it's
- 9:55not going to last very long.
- 9:57See, it's the pattern that you set in
- 9:59motion.
- 10:00That pattern is what determines where you're going
- 10:03to go next.
- 10:05It's your mindset that's affecting your success or
- 10:09lack thereof.
- 10:10Number nine, you see, this is the point,
- 10:13guys, where you don't take failure personally.
- 10:16It's not personal.
- 10:18Because failure is information, not identity.
- 10:21And taking it personally steals your power to
- 10:24grow.
- 10:25I say in my book, Drain to Driven,
- 10:28that really, it's about data.
- 10:32And failure is just data.
- 10:35If we haven't quit and we're taking a
- 10:38pause, we haven't quit.
- 10:39But if we don't do any more and
- 10:42we put it totally away, then that's quitting.
- 10:45Nobody wants to quit.
- 10:46You're not going to get any further by
- 10:48quitting.
- 10:49In fact, you're going to get more frustrated.
- 10:51Number 10, this is the point where you
- 10:54stay grounded in chaos.
- 10:56Because when everything around you is falling apart,
- 11:00your ability to stay centered, guess what, ladies
- 11:02and gentlemen?
- 11:04It becomes your greatest strength.
- 11:08Number 11, this is the point where you
- 11:12keep perspective clear.
- 11:14Because seeing the bigger picture prevents you from
- 11:18getting trapped in temporary problems.
- 11:22That, well, they feel permanent.
- 11:25But is that an illusion?
- 11:27Illusions can seem real.
- 11:29Perceptions are real.
- 11:30Remember, we create our reality by our perceptions,
- 11:35by our thoughts.
- 11:37Number 12, guys, this is the point where
- 11:41you strengthen mental endurances.
- 11:43Because the mind that can go longer wins.
- 11:47And most people quit before their competition runs
- 11:52out.
- 11:54Your competition is eventually going to say, you
- 11:56know what, I can't do this anymore.
- 11:57But you're the one that needs to hang
- 12:00on just a little bit longer, right?
- 12:03Just hold on a little bit longer.
- 12:04And by holding on a little bit longer,
- 12:07you're going to wow yourself.
- 12:09You're going to build confidence in yourself.
- 12:10But you know what else is going to
- 12:11happen?
- 12:12The competitor is probably going to go away
- 12:14because they think it's not possible.
- 12:19They think it's not possible.
- 12:24What's possible is things that may be improbable
- 12:30to others.
- 12:30But it's your belief that's creating this reality.
- 12:33I mean, that's the most important thing I
- 12:34want to share with you.
- 12:35And this is the point, ladies and gentlemen,
- 12:36where you control your reactions.
- 12:39Because the person who controls their emotions, controls
- 12:42the outcome, and losing control, loses everything.
- 12:47You know, you want to win an argument?
- 12:49Don't try to win it.
- 12:51Just be calm.
- 12:53Just listen.
- 12:55The other person is going to burn out.
- 12:57And you just listen.
- 13:01And that's going to like drive them crazy.
- 13:04Like really, really drive them crazy.
- 13:06That's what I want to tell you.
- 13:08Number 14, guys, this is the point.
- 13:11Where you avoid negativity spirals.
- 13:13Because one negative thought leads to another.
- 13:16And jumping out fast prevents the entire day
- 13:19from collapsing.
- 13:20I'm going to give you a perfect example.
- 13:22How many of you have ever gotten up
- 13:24in the morning?
- 13:26Maybe you've either bumped your head.
- 13:27Or the big one is that you've maybe
- 13:29kicked your foot, like stubbed your toe.
- 13:32And you say a few choice four-letter
- 13:34words.
- 13:36And before you know it, the rest of
- 13:38your day is kind of spiraled down.
- 13:41I don't care whether you stub your toe,
- 13:44you hit your head, your elbow, whatever.
- 13:46Or maybe you broke a glass.
- 13:48What you need to say is, OK, I
- 13:49broke a glass.
- 13:51I'm going to clean it up.
- 13:52And the rest of my day is going
- 13:52to be great.
- 13:53OK, I stubbed my toe.
- 13:56It happened.
- 13:58Now it'll go away in a few minutes.
- 14:00And the rest of my day is going
- 14:00to be great.
- 14:02But too many people are looking for things
- 14:04to hang their hat on and say, you
- 14:05know what?
- 14:05This isn't happening.
- 14:06So now I believe that I can't do
- 14:09this the way I want to do it.
- 14:11OK?
- 14:12And that's hard for a lot of people.
- 14:15Right?
- 14:17I love the fact when people are able
- 14:20to change where they are.
- 14:29And when people change where they are, big
- 14:32things happen.
- 14:37It's not because of just that one shift.
- 14:43It's because that shift allows you to now
- 14:47perceive things differently.
- 14:49The best example I can give you guys
- 14:51is if I asked you what kind of
- 14:53car you drive.
- 14:54And I've used this example before.
- 14:57And I drive a white car.
- 14:59Let's say you drive a blue car.
- 15:00So I might say to you, gee, I
- 15:03bet there are a lot of blue cars
- 15:04on the road.
- 15:04Oh, yeah, that's all there are, blue cars.
- 15:07And you ask me, I bet there's a
- 15:09lot of white cars on the road.
- 15:13And it's like, wait a minute, there's more
- 15:14blue cars.
- 15:15No, it's my perception.
- 15:16It's what I'm looking at.
- 15:17It's what I'm paying attention to.
- 15:19See, whatever I think about becomes reality.
- 15:27Wherever my thoughts go, that's where the energy
- 15:32is going to flow, hands down.
- 15:35This is the point, guys, where you stay
- 15:38focused on goals.
- 15:40Because clarity on what you want keeps you
- 15:44moving forward.
- 15:45When distractions try to pull you off course.
- 15:47Remember, we talked about two different things the
- 15:49other night.
- 15:50We talked about something very interesting.
- 15:52We talked about a promise.
- 15:56We talked about a commitment.
- 15:58A promise is something you agree to keep
- 16:01because of someone else.
- 16:03A commitment is something you keep because of
- 16:06yourself, because you want to do it.
- 16:10And a lot of times, those get confused,
- 16:13right?
- 16:14People say, oh, I'll make it a promise.
- 16:16But it's not something you really believe in.
- 16:18But yet, you wind up promising something.
- 16:20Number 16, guys, this is the point where
- 16:22you keep moving forward.
- 16:24Always, because progress, compounds, and even small steps
- 16:28taken consistently beat massive efforts taken rarely.
- 16:34And I think a lot of people that
- 16:36hear this are like, oh, wait a minute,
- 16:37this doesn't apply to me.
- 16:39Well, the question I'm going to ask you
- 16:40is, why not?
- 16:42Why does it apply to you?
- 16:45Well, because I'm different, because I'm better, OK?
- 16:50How are you different?
- 16:51How are you better?
- 16:53I just am.
- 16:55And so denial is not a river in
- 16:59Egypt.
- 17:01Denial is.
- 17:03And so when somebody admits that they're denying
- 17:06something, they first got to admit it to
- 17:10themselves, OK?
- 17:13They've got to admit it to themselves.
- 17:17And I figured this is a very important
- 17:19thing that I want to talk about tonight.
- 17:20It's a real important one.
- 17:22And it is denial.
- 17:24First, we have the shock and the numbness
- 17:25from it.
- 17:26There's the denial and disbelief.
- 17:29There's a little of a partial disbelief.
- 17:31And then there's a little bit of more
- 17:33grief.
- 17:35And there's a purpose that comes about.
- 17:37But if we break it down to five
- 17:39simple stages, it's really, really, really simple.
- 17:45We have to understand where something goes.
- 17:48First, sometimes someone will get angry, OK?
- 17:57And then they may get depressed.
- 18:01Then hopefully, they'll get accepted.
- 18:09But understanding this can be hard.
- 18:12So to break it down again, the five
- 18:14stages, in case you didn't get them, anger,
- 18:19bargaining, trying to find a little bit of
- 18:25hope, depression, acceptance, and then
- 18:35getting help.
- 18:38But a lot of people don't want to
- 18:39admit that.
- 18:41Number 17, guys, this is the point where
- 18:43you build patience daily.
- 18:44Because the fastest way to success is often
- 18:47the slow, consistent path.
- 18:50And impatient people quit too early.
- 18:53And when somebody's impatient, they quit early.
- 18:55Guess what they miss?
- 18:56They miss the rewards of success every single
- 18:58time.
- 19:00They just didn't hold on a little bit
- 19:02longer, right?
- 19:03That's all they have to do.
- 19:05Number 18, this is the point where you
- 19:07handle pressure well.
- 19:09Because you see, pressure reveals who you are.
- 19:12And your ability to perform under it separates
- 19:14winners from everyone else.
- 19:16You know, you want to tell someone's character,
- 19:19don't show up when they're doing well.
- 19:21Show up when they're having a challenge.
- 19:22And you'll get to see their real, truthful
- 19:24character.
- 19:26Number 19, this is the point where you
- 19:29don't rely on motivation.
- 19:30Because you've learned, motivation fades.
- 19:33But discipline lasts.
- 19:35And building life on feelings guarantees failure.
- 19:40So we have to have discipline.
- 19:43Number 20, this is that point where you
- 19:45stay disciplined in adversity.
- 19:47Because when things get hard, discipline is the
- 19:50only thing that keeps you going when everything
- 19:53else stops.
- 19:55It keeps you on track.
- 19:57It keeps you in alignment.
- 19:59But a lot of people don't figure that
- 20:01out for a long time.
- 20:03Like, oh my gosh, what am I going
- 20:04to do?
- 20:06Nothing.
- 20:08Nothing.
- 20:09And then nothing is something hard for people
- 20:11to understand.
- 20:12Because they don't really understand the why.
- 20:16So they question everything.
- 20:19They question it.
- 20:21Number 21, this is that point where you
- 20:24accept what you can't control.
- 20:26Because wasting energy on trying to change something
- 20:29that you can't control just drains you.
- 20:33And the things that you could actually change
- 20:36would have been a lot better use of
- 20:37your time.
- 20:39I know so many people that literally spend
- 20:43so much time trying to figure out how
- 20:45to control something.
- 20:52Does that make sense?
- 20:57It does, doesn't it?
- 21:01And I can tell you guys that the
- 21:05more you can accept what you can't control,
- 21:07the more things you'll find you'll wind up
- 21:12controlling because of your alignment.
- 21:16Number 22, this is that point where you
- 21:19act on what you can because action creates
- 21:24momentum.
- 21:25And momentum, guys, creates results.
- 21:28While waiting creates nothing.
- 21:31Just procrastination, more fear, more worry, more stress.
- 21:37Number 23, this is that point where you
- 21:40stay consistent through the hard times because consistency
- 21:44is the bridge between the goals and accomplishment.
- 21:48And most people quit right before it opens.
- 21:53Right before it opens.
- 21:55That's when they quit.
- 21:59Why?
- 22:00They claim they've had enough.
- 22:04They haven't had a timeout, right?
- 22:06I think that's hard for some people.
- 22:13I think that's hard for a lot of
- 22:15people to understand that that can be done
- 22:20like that.
- 22:23But again, having that awareness and changing your
- 22:25perception really will change your life every single
- 22:29day, hands down.
- 22:31Number 24, this is that point where you
- 22:36use stress as fuel because stress is energy
- 22:39and channeling it turns you from taking that
- 22:44pressure and converting it into power.
- 22:47Instead of letting it break you, you figure
- 22:51out how to turn the lemon into lemonade
- 22:53or orange into orange juice, right?
- 22:56Number 25, this is that point where you
- 22:59maintain clarity always because confusion kills progress.
- 23:05And clear thinking leads to clear action.
- 23:07And that creates real results.
- 23:10Number 26, this is the point where you
- 23:13keep confidence steady.
- 23:15Because self-belief is the foundation of action.
- 23:19And without it, you'll never take the risks
- 23:21that change everything.
- 23:24Number 27, guys, this is the point where
- 23:28you build inner strength.
- 23:29Not easy to do because external circumstances will
- 23:34always change.
- 23:35But the strength you've built inside will never
- 23:39leave you.
- 23:46It takes some courage to do this.
- 23:49It takes some belief.
- 23:50John, where do you start if you have
- 23:52nothing?
- 23:56Start with what you have, okay?
- 24:01Something is better than nothing.
- 24:04And when you can learn how that one
- 24:09thing that you believed in suddenly can compound
- 24:13into something else, more positive energy will snowball,
- 24:18right?
- 24:18What happens with a snowball when it rolls
- 24:20and rolls and rolls, eventually it gets so
- 24:21big it could be a dangerous threat to
- 24:23somebody because a little tiny snowball can roll
- 24:25into this huge 12, 24-foot snowball or
- 24:29even larger.
- 24:31It rolls and it gets momentum.
- 24:33But at first it had nothing.
- 24:35It was just a little tiny pebble, right?
- 24:38Number 28, this is the point where you
- 24:42avoid giving up ever.
- 24:46And stay persistent.
- 24:47Always because every single person who achieved greatness
- 24:51did it by refusing to quit when everyone
- 24:54else did.
- 24:57So you're saying when I want to quit,
- 25:00I need to just not.
- 25:02I'm saying you need to have discipline why
- 25:05you don't want to quit.
- 25:08And the why, I can't tell you.
- 25:10Everybody's why is going to be different.
- 25:12I use the example that your why needs
- 25:13to be loud.
- 25:14And what that means is that your reason
- 25:16needs to be so tied to your core
- 25:19values that it's like why you get up
- 25:22every morning out of bed.
- 25:25If it does not align that deeply, your
- 25:32discipline is going to just fall apart before
- 25:34it even starts.
- 25:38Discipline is not an easy thing.
- 25:41But I can tell you once you've learned
- 25:42how to build it, you'll get better at
- 25:45it every time.
- 25:48It's a practice game, right?
- 25:50When your mind and body sees, oh, this
- 25:52is working.
- 25:54And guess what?
- 25:54You're going to start doing more of it
- 25:56because you notice now that it's working.
- 25:59But in the beginning, it's like, is this
- 26:02really going to work?
- 26:04What have you got to lose?
- 26:07It's not working for you right now, is
- 26:08it?
- 26:09Okay.
- 26:10So my question for you is, what do
- 26:13you have to lose?
- 26:15Nothing.
- 26:17Time.
- 26:19You haven't got where you want it to
- 26:20be now.
- 26:21So why not give this a shot?
- 26:25You know, a wise person once told me
- 26:26a long time ago, John, when you let
- 26:31go, you get control.
- 26:34And I didn't understand that.
- 26:35The more you let go, the more in
- 26:38control you become, which is really interesting because
- 26:44by letting go, you get more control.
- 26:48I know that's very hard to believe.
- 26:51And I didn't believe it at first either.
- 26:54But I have to tell you, by letting
- 26:56go, you get more control.
- 26:59Try it.
