- 0:08Speaker 1: Season to do list for the Mets draftneck Mark been
- 0:10Speaker 1: in the game for a long time. Check out the
- 0:11Speaker 1: YouTube channel if you don't already, but then also Mets up.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Let's talk about the Mets specifically here Mark, good to
- 0:16Speaker 1: see you, my friend, and lay out the off season
- 0:19Speaker 1: to do list. What's one, two, and three for the
- 0:21Speaker 1: Mets in your mind?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks for having me on. Guys, excited to talk
- 0:24Speaker 2: about the Mets. Kind of cheat a little bit. I
- 0:26Speaker 2: put number one as resigned Pete Alonzo and Edwin Diaz.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Number two trade for an a starting pitcher. Number three
- 0:33Speaker 2: we got to find an outfield or whether it's in
- 0:34Speaker 2: the corner or center field.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Okay, all right, let's dive into each of these. I'm
- 0:40Speaker 1: going to start with the heartbreaker question at the top
- 0:43Speaker 1: because Buck Showalter, former manager of the Mets, recently asked
- 0:46Speaker 1: us yesterday this question when he was a guest on
- 0:49Speaker 1: the show. Mark, you can only keep Pete Alonso or
- 0:54Speaker 1: Edwin Diaz. Forget about the money, right, Let's say Pete
- 0:57Speaker 1: is getting one twenty and Diaz is getting ninety five whatever, Right,
- 1:00Speaker 1: the money shouldn't matter a ton when you're thinking about
- 1:02Speaker 1: this team. You can only pick one, Which one do
- 1:05Speaker 1: you need for next year?
- 1:06Speaker 2: I think it's pet Alonso as much as Edwin Diaz
- 1:09Speaker 2: is arguably the best closer in baseball. I think you
- 1:12Speaker 2: can still build a strong bullpen without having the best
- 1:15Speaker 2: closer in baseball where it's really tough to find the
- 1:17Speaker 2: offensive production that Pete Alonso has at the first base position.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I know, defensively he's got his shortcomings, but thirty five
- 1:23Speaker 2: to forty home runs in a year and ops approaching
- 1:26Speaker 2: nine hundred, driving in one hundred and ten hundred and
- 1:28Speaker 2: twenty runs a season, what Pete brings to the plate,
- 1:31Speaker 2: it's really difficult to find in baseball, and you usually
- 1:34Speaker 2: have to pay a lot so to be able to
- 1:36Speaker 2: get that kind of value at the first base position.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I just I don't know how the Mets would really
- 1:41Speaker 2: even come close to being able to fill in the
- 1:43Speaker 2: shoes of Pete at the plate.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Yeah, to that point, do they have an internal option
- 1:49Speaker 3: if Pete doesn't come back? And what's kind of the
- 1:52Speaker 3: knock around Pete Alonzo. All he's ever done has been
- 1:55Speaker 3: a productive first baseman. He gets forty homers, drives in
- 1:58Speaker 3: a home one hundred RBIs every year, He's a multiple
- 2:02Speaker 3: home run derby champion. He loves the city of New York.
- 2:06Speaker 3: You know, if you were listening earlier, he has no
- 2:08Speaker 3: kind of there's no negativity when it comes to him
- 2:11Speaker 3: as a teammate or a person. I personally played with Pete.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I love Pete, but it feels like, what's the knock
- 2:16Speaker 3: on this guy? Why are they just not pooning up
- 2:18Speaker 3: and giving him what he you know, kind of deserves.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think for Mets fans they would agree with
- 2:24Speaker 2: you and say, we got to bring Pete Alonso back,
- 2:26Speaker 2: no matter what it takes. But I think from the
- 2:27Speaker 2: front office perspective, they see a guy who towards the
- 2:29Speaker 2: back end of that seven year contract that he's asking for,
- 2:33Speaker 2: the value might not be there for a guy who's
- 2:34Speaker 2: ultimately going to end up becoming a DH because his
- 2:37Speaker 2: defense the last few seasons really hasn't been very great.
- 2:40Speaker 2: But there is an easy fix there. The problem for
- 2:42Speaker 2: Pete is on the balls to his right. If you
- 2:44Speaker 2: look at OAA, that's where he loses all his defensive value.
- 2:47Speaker 2: And that's really from Pete being very aggressive at the position,
- 2:50Speaker 2: having a little bit of trouble throwing the ball over
- 2:52Speaker 2: to the pitcher sometimes covering the base. But that's the
- 2:55Speaker 2: one knock I'd have on him. I think Kyle Schwarber
- 2:57Speaker 2: has shown us recently, as soon as as Lisa's last year,
- 3:01Speaker 2: that these power hitters will continue to hit for power
- 3:04Speaker 2: as they get older and older. So from my perspective,
- 3:06Speaker 2: I think Pete's totally worth it. But I guess from
- 3:09Speaker 2: Pete's value from the front office perspective one, it doesn't
- 3:13Speaker 2: seem like there's nearly as many suitors as Alonzo and
- 3:16Speaker 2: his camped hoped for. So from David Stearns, he's just like,
- 3:19Speaker 2: we'll wait and see, kind of like we did last
- 3:21Speaker 2: offseason and get you at the price point that we
- 3:23Speaker 2: want you at.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Should have got should have went out and got Ron
- 3:26Speaker 3: Washington to work with him, would have got him move
- 3:28Speaker 3: into it right a little bit better starting pitching. Do
- 3:31Speaker 3: you think that's something they go out and get on
- 3:33Speaker 3: the free agency market or is that something they are
- 3:36Speaker 3: looking at the trade market to get And as Test
- 3:39Speaker 3: Scoble name that you've been hearing.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's gonna be on the trade market more.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I just while Frambervaldez is a really good pitcher, I
- 3:45Speaker 2: just don't think that the Mets are gonna poney up
- 3:47Speaker 2: the money that he's going to command on the free
- 3:49Speaker 2: agent market right now, when you have guys like Terrek
- 3:52Speaker 2: Scuble possibly available, Freddie Peralta's name has been float around,
- 3:56Speaker 2: Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez, even Sandy in your own division.
- 3:59Speaker 2: There's a lot of op on the trade market, and
- 4:01Speaker 2: the Bets have built up one of the best farm
- 4:03Speaker 2: systems in baseball over the last few years. I think
- 4:05Speaker 2: this would be a time for them to take some
- 4:07Speaker 2: of those pieces in the farm and push those chips
- 4:09Speaker 2: in to go out and get a real frontline starter,
- 4:12Speaker 2: because while this rotation was a huge problem last year,
- 4:15Speaker 2: they couldn't get length out of anybody down the stretch.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I think that they have a lot of those back
- 4:20Speaker 2: end arms right now where you don't really want to
- 4:23Speaker 2: go and spend necessarily on the free agent market. You
- 4:25Speaker 2: want to go and make a move, get a impact player,
- 4:28Speaker 2: a game one starter in a postseason series. If they
- 4:30Speaker 2: reached there and those guys are available.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Nemo he gone outfield. They need another outfielder. Man, what
- 4:38Speaker 4: do you think they're going to do with that situation
- 4:41Speaker 4: that to have to have anybody in the minor leagues
- 4:43Speaker 4: that could step up right now.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yeah, really excited, really excited for Carson Benge. And I
- 4:47Speaker 2: think David Stearns and allest press conferences has also mentioned
- 4:50Speaker 2: Carson Benge a lot. It seems like if he comes
- 4:53Speaker 2: out and has a strong spring training, he has a
- 4:56Speaker 2: chance to win that opening day either centerfield or left
- 4:58Speaker 2: field position based on whoever they get to fill that spot.
- 5:01Speaker 2: But benj is someone who's a top ten maybe at
- 5:04Speaker 2: worst top fifteen prospect in all of minor league baseball.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Flew through the system last year out of Oklahoma State.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Looks really really promising, and it looks like he can
- 5:11Speaker 2: play centerfield if needed. But I ultimately end up thinking
- 5:14Speaker 2: they go with Cody Bellinger in the corner. He's a
- 5:16Speaker 2: guy who can give you the flexibility of playing the
- 5:19Speaker 2: outfield positions. He could even play centerfield if you needed
- 5:21Speaker 2: him to in a pinch, but he's great in left field,
- 5:23Speaker 2: has a great arm, is a good athlete, And on
- 5:26Speaker 2: days where if Pete A. Lonso's back with this team,
- 5:28Speaker 2: you could dh Pete some days put Cody Bellinger at
- 5:31Speaker 2: first base. Think he gives the roster flexibility, the defensive value,
- 5:35Speaker 2: and also still is a really good bat hit thirty
- 5:37Speaker 2: home runs last year with the Yankees. That's a player
- 5:40Speaker 2: that feels perfect and someone that David Stearns would be
- 5:43Speaker 2: really honing in on this offseason.
- 5:45Speaker 4: So give me your start now field, right now, if
- 5:50Speaker 4: today was Day one, give me give me your outfield
- 5:52Speaker 4: right now.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be Cody Bellinger in left. I
- 5:55Speaker 2: think you're gonna have a platoon of Carson Benge and
- 5:57Speaker 2: Tyrone Taylor in center and Juan Soto in right. And
- 6:00Speaker 2: I mentioned Tyrone Taylor just because I think against Lefti's
- 6:03Speaker 2: especially early on in the year, They're going to want
- 6:05Speaker 2: to give benj a little bit more of an easier
- 6:08Speaker 2: transition into the majors and not have to have him
- 6:10Speaker 2: face some of the tough lefties or in the National
- 6:12Speaker 2: League early on.
- 6:13Speaker 4: So my boy, Jeff McNeill, I haven't heard a word
- 6:16Speaker 4: about him. What's going Is he out after all this
- 6:19Speaker 4: craziness with Lindor again, Like, talk to me about my
- 6:21Speaker 4: buddy Jeff.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I just don't think he can mash. I don't know.
- 6:26Speaker 5: I listen.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I like Jeff as a player. I've been banging the
- 6:29Speaker 2: Jeff McNeil drum a little bit harder than some Mets fans,
- 6:31Speaker 2: but does feel like with the acquisition of Simeon, with
- 6:34Speaker 2: all the stuff that we heard with him and Lindor,
- 6:36Speaker 2: and the fact that the Mets team does seem to
- 6:38Speaker 2: want to get a little more athletic, which is unfair
- 6:40Speaker 2: because mcnil's played great second base and outfield as well
- 6:43Speaker 2: for this team whenever they call upon it. It just
- 6:45Speaker 2: seems like this organization might be moving on from him,
- 6:49Speaker 2: especially when you move on from Nemo. It seems like
- 6:51Speaker 2: there might be a changing of some of the guys
- 6:54Speaker 2: that have been here for a minute, and I think
- 6:55Speaker 2: McNeil unfortunately for.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Me, I'm a fan of Jeff.
- 6:58Speaker 2: We've been very friendly in the past, but I think
- 7:00Speaker 2: he's going to be going to a new organization this offseason.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Speaking of platoons third base Mark Fianto's Brett Baty, I
- 7:09Speaker 3: don't see a scenario where you can have him both.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I think you got to allow one to play one
- 7:14Speaker 3: hundred and forty one hundred fifty games a year. Who
- 7:16Speaker 3: you take in, who's got more trade value or do
- 7:19Speaker 3: you see him kind of platooning both of these guys.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think in a perfect world they would love
- 7:23Speaker 2: for Mork Fiento's to play third base, but I think
- 7:25Speaker 2: last season he showed that the position is a little
- 7:28Speaker 2: little tough for him defensively. His home might end up
- 7:30Speaker 2: being first base if he's going to play the field,
- 7:33Speaker 2: but Brett Baty kind of won the position as well.
- 7:35Speaker 2: He played good enough defense at third base, which was
- 7:37Speaker 2: about league average, better at times than league average defensively,
- 7:41Speaker 2: and then at the plate the second half of the season,
- 7:43Speaker 2: Brett Baty was awesome like he was hitting for power,
- 7:45Speaker 2: finished with close to twenty home runs on the season,
- 7:48Speaker 2: ops creeped its way back up to being above league average,
- 7:51Speaker 2: and the fact that he's free with that kind of value,
- 7:53Speaker 2: I do really think it's his position right now going
- 7:56Speaker 2: into opening Day, along with the fact that Vientos he
- 7:59Speaker 2: does still kind of have a role on this team,
- 8:01Speaker 2: even with Pete Alonso on it, and that's being a
- 8:04Speaker 2: lefty masher off the bench, being a guy who in
- 8:07Speaker 2: a pinch, could play third base, he could be a
- 8:09Speaker 2: Dach option, he could play first. We remember that twenty
- 8:11Speaker 2: twenty four season, Viento's was phenomenal. They don't go on
- 8:14Speaker 2: that run without him, and while twenty twenty five was
- 8:17Speaker 2: a bit of a struggle for him. I still think
- 8:20Speaker 2: that the Mets have some hope that he can find
- 8:22Speaker 2: that bad again and be a guy who can provide
- 8:24Speaker 2: some serious power when needed in that lineup.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to take this to a conversation that
- 8:30Speaker 1: actually we just covered makeup, clubhouse chemistry, all that kind
- 8:35Speaker 1: of stuff. A lot of times it can get pretty overblown.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I thought you guys did a great job covering the
- 8:39Speaker 1: New York Post article the other day. I listened to
- 8:41Speaker 1: that when I texted you guys about it, we talked
- 8:43Speaker 1: about it. I wanted to get insight from you guys,
- 8:45Speaker 1: dialed in on the team on an everyday basis, Like
- 8:47Speaker 1: lind Orn, So, I don't care if one loves one color,
- 8:51Speaker 1: one loves the other, one loves food, one loves shopping.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I don't give a crap. Right, they both put up
- 8:56Speaker 1: great numbers. That's not the reason why the Mets didn't
- 8:58Speaker 1: make the playoffs this year. And buckshow Artler I'll allude
- 9:01Speaker 1: to again, was on yesterday we asked him about it.
- 9:03Speaker 1: He's like, they didn't make the playoffs because they didn't
- 9:05Speaker 1: have enough pitching, especially enough you know, starting pitching on
- 9:07Speaker 1: the stretch to relying on all these young guys, et cetera.
- 9:10Speaker 1: The one thing he did bring up that I thought
- 9:12Speaker 1: was interesting is the Nemo Semion trade and he goes,
- 9:15Speaker 1: isn't Semeon the captain of the Rangers? Why did he
- 9:18Speaker 1: get traded? So curious to get your thoughts on that one.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Many people responded to the clip, which got quite a
- 9:24Speaker 1: few hits, and said, oh, well, the dudes in his
- 9:27Speaker 1: mid thirties, his offense has declined. That's also part of
- 9:30Speaker 1: the mix. Do you think that the I don't want
- 9:33Speaker 1: to say the Mets won the trade, but do you
- 9:34Speaker 1: think this is going to work out well for the Mets?
- 9:37Speaker 1: And what is your take on the chemistry component for
- 9:40Speaker 1: the ballpark or for the ball club as well? And
- 9:42Speaker 1: then after you answer, we can get kp who played
- 9:45Speaker 1: with Marcus.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I mean we've heard about the chemistry stuff for a
- 9:48Speaker 2: minute now and it's weird. I think it's uncomfortable from
- 9:51Speaker 2: the outside perspective. But you guys had Sheffield on as
- 9:54Speaker 2: well on the show, and he talked about these guys
- 9:56Speaker 2: don't have to be best friends. I think at the
- 9:58Speaker 2: end of the day, like the company line for Mets up,
- 10:00Speaker 2: they don't have to like each other. They just have
- 10:02Speaker 2: to respect each other and they have to try and
- 10:03Speaker 2: win baseball games. And from the outside perspective, it seems
- 10:07Speaker 2: like that's all those guys care about. Wan Sota wants
- 10:09Speaker 2: to win, Francisco Lindoor wants to win. The two of
- 10:12Speaker 2: the best players in baseball. They played well last year.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I wouldn't chalk the chemistry up because I think we
- 10:17Speaker 2: would have seen them both struggle more if there really
- 10:20Speaker 2: was a huge problem. And then with Marcus Simon being
- 10:23Speaker 2: traded over for Brandon Neimo, while Simeon being traded you know,
- 10:26Speaker 2: the captain of the Rangers is a big deal for
- 10:28Speaker 2: what that can mean for the Rangers. You also got
- 10:30Speaker 2: to remember Neimo is such a big part of this clubhouse.
- 10:32Speaker 2: So I really do think it might just be one
- 10:35Speaker 2: the contracts made sense and both teams can see a
- 10:38Speaker 2: good fit either way. The Mets could use some help
- 10:40Speaker 2: at second base, especially defensively, and the Rangers needed some
- 10:43Speaker 2: outfield help after getting rid of a Duolas Garcia. But
- 10:46Speaker 2: Simeon bringing that steady veteran presence, being a very well
- 10:50Speaker 2: respected player in the league. I don't think that this
- 10:52Speaker 2: is ever a bad thing for the clubhouse. We kind
- 10:54Speaker 2: of saw it with JD. Martinez in twenty twenty four.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Maybe this is kind of the move of that similar
- 10:59Speaker 2: ilk of bringing in a respected veteran leader, and it's
- 11:02Speaker 2: one of the few guys on this roster that has
- 11:04Speaker 2: won has won a championship, And I do think there's
- 11:06Speaker 2: value to that.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think the championship pedigree is a
- 11:10Speaker 3: big part of why they brought him in too. But
- 11:14Speaker 3: you know, to everyone's point, you know, you're going to
- 11:16Speaker 3: be in a clubhouse with you know, guys that aren't
- 11:19Speaker 3: They're all not all going to be your best friend,
- 11:20Speaker 3: and you don't necessarily have to all get along. But
- 11:23Speaker 3: the biggest thing is you've got to have, you know,
- 11:25Speaker 3: common goals and what Marcus Simeon does bring and to
- 11:28Speaker 3: the point with why he probably you know, although he
- 11:31Speaker 3: was the captain he left the Rangers, Marcus loves to work.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Marcus wants to be on the field every single day.
- 11:36Speaker 3: He wants to take batting practice, he wants to turn
- 11:39Speaker 3: double plays with his shortstop. He wants to get out
- 11:41Speaker 3: there and be on the field every day. So I
- 11:44Speaker 3: know thendors like that as well. I didn't have experience
- 11:47Speaker 3: with Juan Soto. But you know, there's certain guys in
- 11:49Speaker 3: this game that just are good enough they could just
- 11:52Speaker 3: show up at six and play. Marcus is one of
- 11:54Speaker 3: those guys. And you know, to your point, you have
- 11:57Speaker 3: these Brett Badis and Mark vent Is in there. Bringing
- 11:59Speaker 3: in a guy like Marcus Simon who wasn't a great
- 12:03Speaker 3: player at the beginning of his career, who turned himself
- 12:05Speaker 3: into a superstar, a top three finisher in the MVP,
- 12:09Speaker 3: A guy who's making one hundred and eighty million dollars
- 12:11Speaker 3: to play second place. This all came through hard work.
- 12:14Speaker 3: So I don't think it's ever a problem, even if
- 12:17Speaker 3: he is on his decline, to bring in a guy
- 12:19Speaker 3: like this who just can set an example for these
- 12:22Speaker 3: guys of what hard work can do for you in
- 12:24Speaker 3: your career. So I love the Mets bringing him in.
- 12:26Speaker 3: You know, it's not you know, and Brandon Nemo, you
- 12:28Speaker 3: know he was I played with him. He's a guy
- 12:30Speaker 3: who loves to work too. You know, not to put
- 12:33Speaker 3: a knock against Brandon Nemo, but I don't think it's
- 12:35Speaker 3: a bad thing bringing in that World Series champion guy
- 12:38Speaker 3: who's finished top three in the MVP, who's also turned
- 12:40Speaker 3: himself into that type of player.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I also think too, at the end of the day,
- 12:44Speaker 2: a lot of people like we remember twenty twenty five
- 12:46Speaker 2: was a disaster season, and relatively speaking, for this core
- 12:49Speaker 2: that's been here, they kind of haven't accomplished anything. So
- 12:52Speaker 2: while Mets fans feel this, you know, real connection with
- 12:55Speaker 2: brand Nemo because he's been in the organization for almost
- 12:57Speaker 2: a decade, sometimes things have to change, and I think
- 13:00Speaker 2: from the front office perspective, if it didn't work last year,
- 13:03Speaker 2: we got to try something else. Otherwise it's crazy to
- 13:05Speaker 2: think that another outcome is possible.
- 13:07Speaker 4: I want to talk one more about Brandon Neimo here
- 13:09Speaker 4: real quick. He recently came on a show and basically
- 13:13Speaker 4: talked about his legacy with the Mets and everything, and
- 13:16Speaker 4: he talked about his number being in the Raptors. Now,
- 13:19Speaker 4: I want to ask you, as a longtime Mets guy
- 13:21Speaker 4: and understand, but if he did end his career with
- 13:23Speaker 4: the Mets, could you've seen his number being put up there?
- 13:27Speaker 4: You know, with the longevity with the Mets and the
- 13:29Speaker 4: numbers that he had.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Oh one, I think if he ended his career there,
- 13:33Speaker 2: he would have been up there with Darryl and Keith
- 13:35Speaker 2: and Mike Piazza and all those guys. Tom sever he
- 13:37Speaker 2: would have been one of the all time great Mets
- 13:39Speaker 2: and even to this point, the numbers in the organization
- 13:41Speaker 2: that he put up, he's like top ten and basically
- 13:44Speaker 2: every offensive stat I think Brandonimo, from my perspective, one
- 13:47Speaker 2: of my favorite Mets to ever play on the team.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I think it's really cool to see a player grow
- 13:52Speaker 2: up with the organization become an adult at a similar
- 13:54Speaker 2: time where I was becoming an adult as well. So
- 13:57Speaker 2: it's really uh, it hurt to see him go because
- 14:00Speaker 2: in the few experiences I had with him, he truly
- 14:02Speaker 2: was one of the great guys that I've ever got
- 14:04Speaker 2: to meet in baseball. So from that perspective, it hurts.
- 14:07Speaker 2: But the end of the day, baseball is a business,
- 14:09Speaker 2: and for the Mets, I guess they felt that trading
- 14:12Speaker 2: brand Nemo for Marcusime and help them achieve their goal
- 14:14Speaker 2: at the end of the year of hopefully winning a
- 14:15Speaker 2: World Series.
- 14:17Speaker 3: On this topic, did Jacob deGrom number get retired? I
- 14:22Speaker 3: mean a statue.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I think that I'm one of the few Mets fans
- 14:25Speaker 2: that did not care how Jacob deGrom left. I keep
- 14:28Speaker 2: him in the highest regard he's one of the best
- 14:30Speaker 2: players that I've ever seen step on a baseball field,
- 14:32Speaker 2: especially in terms of pitching. I would retire his number
- 14:35Speaker 2: in a heartbeat, and I think the Mets organization will too.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Even though there wasn't a lot of winning that went
- 14:40Speaker 2: on for a guy to win multiple Cy Young's like
- 14:42Speaker 2: he did and could be considered and be on a
- 14:45Speaker 2: Hall of Fame path, I think it would be crazy
- 14:47Speaker 2: not to.
- 14:48Speaker 4: It's it's funny, like retiring numbers like it just seems
- 14:51Speaker 4: like it just comes off the tip of everybody's Yeah,
- 14:54Speaker 4: just retire.
- 14:54Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know, it's like the Hall of Fame.
- 14:56Speaker 5: To me, you gotta be stinder.
- 14:57Speaker 4: You gotta be one of the best, the best to
- 14:59Speaker 4: ever play, or one of the best and best to
- 15:01Speaker 4: ever play in that organization.
- 15:03Speaker 5: Maybe my standards are a little higher on certain things.
- 15:06Speaker 4: But back in the day, those guys played fifteen twenty
- 15:09Speaker 4: twenty five years, so it made it that much easier
- 15:11Speaker 4: for them to get picked.
- 15:13Speaker 5: But yes, I think.
- 15:14Speaker 4: It's a it's a it's a great question, But I
- 15:17Speaker 4: don't know if I'm always convinced on some of these things.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think also, like just as such a diehard
- 15:22Speaker 2: Mets fan. A lot of those guys are some of
- 15:24Speaker 2: my best memories. I don't. I don't have a lot
- 15:26Speaker 2: of great memories as a Mets fan, Like twenty fifteen
- 15:28Speaker 2: really sticks out, twenty twenty two, twenty twenty four, like otherwise,
- 15:32Speaker 2: you look back and it's not a lot of happy
- 15:34Speaker 2: times for me as a fan.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Todd, do you disagree with the deGrom.
- 15:39Speaker 5: I'm on the fence, man, if you want the truth,
- 15:41Speaker 5: I'm on the fence.
- 15:43Speaker 4: And I played with him, and I played with him
- 15:45Speaker 4: he got the cy young I was right there at
- 15:47Speaker 4: third base. I thought it was unbelievable. I just need
- 15:50Speaker 4: more longevity with the team in my in my opinion,
- 15:53Speaker 4: so I would say no right now. But it's it's
- 15:56Speaker 4: up it's up for debate, man, It's it's definitely up
- 15:59Speaker 4: for for debate. And I've been asked questions about some
- 16:02Speaker 4: of my closest friends, the guys that play with about
- 16:04Speaker 4: Hall of Fame.
- 16:04Speaker 5: I've said no too.
- 16:05Speaker 4: It's like these it's like the best of the best
- 16:08Speaker 4: of the best. So for me, maybe I'm just a
- 16:11Speaker 4: little picky when it comes to these.
- 16:12Speaker 5: Things, like I said before.
- 16:14Speaker 4: But moving on, my last question for you, would be
- 16:18Speaker 4: all right, say the Mets make some moves, they get
- 16:21Speaker 4: the guys.
- 16:21Speaker 5: They want, this team gonna make the playoffs? Is this
- 16:24Speaker 5: team ready to go? Like?
- 16:25Speaker 4: Is it? It's kind of like go time here man,
- 16:27Speaker 4: Stevie Cohen, What do you know he's talking all this stuff,
- 16:31Speaker 4: like when are they gonna finally pick it up and
- 16:33Speaker 4: get their butts back to.
- 16:34Speaker 5: Where they need to be.
- 16:35Speaker 2: I mean, I think you're asking the same question all
- 16:37Speaker 2: Mets fans has. It's like, how is this not come
- 16:39Speaker 2: together quicker better? Especially after twenty twenty four you thought, like,
- 16:42Speaker 2: all right, we have a real chance and last year
- 16:44Speaker 2: was so terrible. But I think they have no other
- 16:46Speaker 2: choice if they don't make the postseason. David Seerns is
- 16:50Speaker 2: on the hot seat. I think Mets fans start getting
- 16:52Speaker 2: upset with Steve Cohen. I think Mets fans start turning
- 16:55Speaker 2: on players more than they already do, Like there's really
- 16:58Speaker 2: no other option besides make the because if they miss again,
- 17:01Speaker 2: it's it's a catastrophic failure. Like failure you can have,
- 17:05Speaker 2: you can have the one offseason where things don't go right,
- 17:07Speaker 2: but two in a row with this payroll, with the
- 17:09Speaker 2: players on this team, with the money being spent. It's
- 17:11Speaker 2: really not acceptable.
- 17:15Speaker 1: You know, have you guys ever done an episode by
- 17:17Speaker 1: the way Mark just on the Jersey retirement stuff.
- 17:21Speaker 5: It's pretty good.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I think we've talked about it before because we've done
- 17:24Speaker 2: a lot of Q and A stuff on the podcast
- 17:26Speaker 2: where you know, mail bag episodes and people ask us
- 17:29Speaker 2: who's the next player being retired. There's just such a
- 17:31Speaker 2: weird group of Mets that like are right on that borderline,
- 17:34Speaker 2: like Todd said, of were they here long enough to
- 17:37Speaker 2: actually get their number retired? Especially in an organization where
- 17:40Speaker 2: there's not a lot of winning, so you usually retire
- 17:43Speaker 2: the number of the guys who were here when we won,
- 17:46Speaker 2: and sadly they haven't won in almost forty years.
- 17:50Speaker 1: That's why it's interesting. And yeah, for all the talk
- 17:52Speaker 1: about you know, oh, big money teams, it's unfair. Okay,
- 17:56Speaker 1: studied the Mets for a while and look at that. Yeah,
- 18:00Speaker 1: and ain't perfect to the Ay'm pretty.
- 18:01Speaker 5: A lot of the time part of it. Yeah, yeah, either.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Knows KPU knows Mark good stuff. Man on your way out.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Just want to let everyone know check out metstup and
- 18:10Speaker 1: where they can do it and what you guys have
- 18:11Speaker 1: been cooking lately.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you guys for letting me on. You could
- 18:15Speaker 2: follow the Mets Stuff podcast over on YouTube. We're on
- 18:18Speaker 2: all social media talking about the Mets offseason every single
- 18:21Speaker 2: time there's any bit of news and uh, you can

- 18:25Speaker 2: more baseball. Appreciate you guys for coming on. Kevin, nice
