[upbeat music] Oh, that's what happens- Yeah... when you let it play for a while.
0:12
[laughs] Hey, everybody. [laughs] To- Tony goofed me up on that. Don't judge me. What? What? Well, I'd, I'd already started the thing and I was just about to fade it in, and you just go...
0:27
[inhales] I was listening- [groans]... to the radio recently- I whacked him... and they said they were playing Nino- You want me to bring the top?... Nino Simone, Center Man, and it only lasted
0:37
like five minutes, and I knew, I knew they cut it in the middle. Yeah, yeah, so just a little shorter intro today. That's all right. JK, JK to my right over here. Ahoy, hoy. Tony. Hmm?
0:50
Sleepy, Sleepy Tony across from me today. [laughs] [yawns] Just rose from a little slumber. And, and, and Sam's listening, but not talking today, I think. Are you not talking? Uh. You can, just- Pr- possibly. We'll see.
1:03
[laughs] Just leave it- Depending on the mood. Just leave, just leave that thing there, and then if you wanna talk- That's all it is... you talk. That's how that works. I like it. Sam's got his- [laughs]...
1:10
his professional headphone microphones on. He... I literally... [laughs] Hey, what's going on here? I don't even... I can't... Where's my, where's my stuff? I can't see my stuff. I- Show 155. Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah.
1:20
Hey, hey, welcome everybody, show number 155. I can't drive. I 155. No longer can Sammy Hagar- Shaggy Hammer... do the 155. Oh, the Shaggy Hammer. Uh- I wonder, I wonder- Have you ever gone-... what a motor-... 155?...
1:35
CC Shaggy Hammer is- You've gone 155 miles an hour... at, at the ya. Yeah. I have, certainly. Yeah. I have. In an airplane. [laughs] Oh. No, I... Oh. On the- Yeah, on the bicycle... on a motorcycle.
1:45
On the bicycle, pushing the button. Not 155 miles an hour, unless you got one hell of a bike. Yeah. For one, that would be... Well, they're trying to- Five, five...
1:52
somebody's trying to s- set a new speed record, like, over 250, 238, 250 something- Salt flat... on an electric motorcycle. On an electric motorcycle? Yeah. Salt flat. It's gonna be a new thing. Salt flat? Yeah.
2:01
It'll be a Salt Flat thing, probably. They'll do that. You just need more batteries and a bigger motor, but- I smell a Zeagle... speed's just a question of money, really.
2:08
[laughs] I smell a Zeagle- How fast do you wanna go? [laughs]... in, in that orbit. [laughs] Well, it's funny, the, uh, right down the street where our buddy, um, Andy,
2:17
has the speed record for, like, 50cc something something, and it's like- Oh, on Salt Flat... 49.9 or something. [laughs] It's not quite 50 miles an hour. It's really close, though. Oh, mot- uh, Motor Scooter Andy? Yeah.
2:29
No, no, no. Oh. Andy from, Andy Pickett from right down the- Oh... like, right there- That's much more fun... pretty much, right down the street.
2:34
I didn't know which way you were- The guy that bought my Sprint in the pass and I bought it back from him. I didn't know which way your thumb was going. Yeah, well, that's another Andy over there. Right.
2:41
We got a lot of Andys. I'm talking about Andy over here. Uh-huh. Yeah. That's what I'm asking. And, uh, yeah. Yeah. And don't forget the guys- Yeah. Andy's and Sam's are- I guess Andy's do motorcycle stuff.
2:48
[laughs] Apparently. Maybe. I thought Mike was the common name for a while there, but no, Andy's and Sam's. Oh, we have Sam's. We do Andys. We got a lot of Sams. We had an Andrew episode last week.
2:56
That's what I'm saying. Didn't Andrew- Yeah, last week... right, right. That we did. We did that. Hmm, hmm. Supposedly Strongman Sam will be back tonight. Oh, really? Well, that's- Back in the state of Wisconsin...
3:05
a little bit early since he didn't complete his quest. Sam went on a three-month vacation to Mexico is what I'm telling everyone. January. Wow. February. Middle of March. Yeah. Bring your bike or... Yeah.
3:16
He, he took a motorcycle there. There were very, very delightful- Oh, wow. He's a cool guy. Yeah. He never calls into the podcast. That makes him a fuck stain in my eyes. Oh. 'Cause I'm hoping- All right...
3:26
he'll listen to this once and hear me slander him so much. [laughs] I have a whole different opinion now, so- Don't slander me. Don't slander me. Oh, no. He's a good guy. Sam's a really good guy. For sure. Yes.
3:36
Well, we'll have to have him on the show and talk of his adventures. That he'll never listen to. Nope. You li- He's not here... at least you listen to the show now. Every- Yeah... every Tuesday. You listen. Yeah.
3:45
Every Tuesday- Ah... at 9:00. [laughs] Dr. Sushi starts- Come on... high-pause WSC. Actually, it was, it was, it was good. Yeah, I mean, it was tole- Terrible... tolerable for your ears. Yeah. Because- Nice...
3:57
no, they had a call-in guest, so they play all the call-in guy's shit, so you can go all like clang, clang, clang. Yeah, okay. [laughs] Which is good when you need it,
4:08
when, like, the, every kitchen drawer and cabinet is opening and falling on you mentally. Ah. [laughs] I just have not listened to that show in years.
4:21
Well, that, I'm- He- I listen to the first, like, three minutes of it every Tuesday, and I'm like, "What is... Oh, it's Dr. Sushi. Oh, time to listen to the podcast." Time to listen to the show. It's about sushi?
4:32
No, he's just a, he's a- Free jazz... free jazz. It's the Free Jazz Barbecue- Yeah... and his DJ name is Dr. Sushi. Oh, so it is music- It- Yes... sorta... throughout, then. It can be a little ec- Yes, yes.
4:42
We're not here to- Yeah... nah, nah, nah, nah, nah It's, you know, it's Present Music. Have you ever seen a Present Music show from Milwaukee here? It's very similar. They actually have their office in the mic factory.
4:51
It's like performance- Do they really now?... free jazz, right? Like, it's right across from the- Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah... other shop location.
4:56
Like, if I, if somebody gave me, you know- It used to be in the building that Molly worked at on Prospect that tipped over in the middle of the day- He's just being a little elitist...
5:02
and, like, shattered the dentist's office windows across the street. Do you not recall? No one was driving down the street that time, some miracle that no one died. Wow. Yeah, the whole front of the building just
5:13
in the middle of the road. Nice. Bricks everywhere, right by, uh, Pizza Man. Oh, yeah. Oh. There's a big- The old Pizza Man. Not Pizza Man. Excuse me. Uh- Pizza Shuttle... Pizza Shuttle. Thank you.
5:24
Yeah, that's, I lived right across... Well, I lived at 1800 Oakland, 1816- Oh, yeah, yeah... which is right there. That's close. Hey, hey, guess what? Hey, guess what? Hey, guess what? I'm gonna push a button. Oh.
5:31
Pushing a button. Now's your moment. Oh. Hey, uh, welcome to the radio program. Caller, who do we have on the line? Silly Dave. Silly Dave. Hey. [laughs] Hi, Silly Dave. We're, uh, we're w- Hey...
5:44
we're welcoming you on the call-in studio call-in line today, rather than the, uh- Yeah... just using the phone like we did last week. I thought, I thought it sounded pretty good though last week. Kind of.
5:55
I think it sounded better just from him saying now. I think it sounded better last week. Yeah, maybe. Yeah. Well, we'll find out. Uh, I, from a call-in, from a call-in perspective-
6:05
There's, uh, there's, uh, it's kind of tradition to sit there and listen to you guys, you know, yammer on before you- [laughs] You know, it kind of, like, gets you in the mood.
6:15
You have a couple of sips of beer and- [laughs]... and figure out what you g- what you guys are talking about, what the mood's like. R- right. I don't know if people know this.
6:23
They can just, they can just call in and listen- Listen... to the show live if they wanted to while we're, while we're doing this c- Right...
6:28
because you can hear it on the, uh, when you're in the, when you're in the queue, when you're in the, uh, the green room.
6:34
[laughs] The sound, the sound is much better in your, the way it's released later, you know, when you call in. Um, but the, the sound is much better as listening to the podcast than it is on calling in.
6:47
But, um, you come across really clear when I call in for some reason, but the rest of the crew doesn't. But in the podcast, everybody sounds fine.
6:57
It's now weird but that's the way- Yeah, that's the, that's the magic of pushing buttons. [laughs] I was sitting here with marbles in my mouth. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah, right on.
7:04
[laughs] Uh, well, s- uh, so coming up, because we're actually gonna do this thing a day early because I know there's people headed up that way that maybe if they wanna hear the show a day before they go up to Hayward for the Fatbike Birkie, uh, we thought we'd just get a status report.
7:20
What's, what's the weather like? What's the, what are the conditions like? What are you thinking for tires, et cetera, et cetera? Uh, yeah, the...
7:26
So we, we just, I mean, the big thing is we just came off a, uh, a big ice storm that, um, so everything was coated in ice and all branches were constantly breaking and trees were falling in the woods from the weight of the, the ice.
7:42
And, uh, so for a while all trails, including the, um, Birkie trails, were closed.
7:50
The Birkie, I just talked with one of their groomers, um, my buddy TJ, uh, and I ran into him today and he said he believes they have right now the, um, the Birkie trail clear from the start all the way to double O, um, going east.
8:11
I, I'm not... They don't have it done yet going west, but he felt pretty confident that they would have, uh, the long course all clear.
8:22
The short course, some of that stuff has not even been groomed this year, I believe, on part of the short course this year. So I'm not sure how that's gonna work out.
8:33
The, um, the guy that I think is out, um, cleaning up on the short course, Kurt Proctor, kind of, he's sort of their head groomer.
8:42
He sorts, sort of like his own weird little Jedi, you know, entity and he does whatever he wants and nobody quite knows what he's doing, um, just because he's, you know, Mr. Expert. So [laughs] he's been, been,
8:56
not been seen the last couple of days I guess. [laughs] Yeah. Everyone just assumes- Communing with nature... everyone just assumes- He's, like, camping out in the woods... he's... Yeah.
9:05
[laughs] Everyone just assumes he's out there, you know, clearing up that, that, you know, the short course, 'cause that's the harder section to clear probably. So our own backyard trails were, were pretty...
9:17
I just spent an hour and a half, two hours today, the end of the day today, out there clearing in, the connection out to that glorious view trail that, um, that CAMBA has and, uh, it's pretty slow going.
9:32
I mean, you know, you, you drive the snowmobile 10 yards and then you stop for half an hour and you chop and saw and chop and saw and drag, you know, trees and limbs and stuff and, and then you go another 10 yards and you, you know, lop and saw and lop and saw and do all that.
9:49
So, so it's pretty slow going. Um, but the Birkie, the nice thing about the Birkie with the Fatbike Birkie is they've got, you know, these big piston bullies.
10:01
So where I'm out there on a snowmobile with a lopper and a chainsaw and I've gotta manually pick up every limb and branch that I cut and, and manually drag it off, they go out and my buddy TJ, who's, like, a former hotshot and he's a good sawyer, he, he runs the saws and, and, you know, um,
10:20
uh, Richie, the, uh, one of the other groomers just runs behind him in the, in the, uh, the piston bully and, and just pushes everything off to the side, you know, 'cause they've got that, those big equipment.
10:32
So, so I'm pretty confident the, the trail will be clear. Um, so then next comes, um, surface. So everything is co- We, we had, like I said, we had, like, an inch of, of rain, so everything got, you know...
10:49
A- and it was warm, so everything got, you know, soaked with, with rain and then compacted some. So surfaces where they're groomed are hard and, uh, so they'll be fast.
11:03
I'd, I, I would personally, um, run studded tires just in case. The temperatures are gonna be single digits or below zero every night, so up until Saturday.
11:14
So, um, the course will be hard and fast in the morning, but it could be icy in spots. Um, I, I think you can certainly ride that course without studded tires. Most people probably do.
11:27
I'm just sort of spoiled by having Dillinger 5s and I just never take them off basically. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah.
11:33
It's, it, it- If you could afford $500 worth of studded tires, you- Well, you know, I mean, you don't really wear them out on the snow that much, so they, they last quite a while. Right.
11:43
No, you wear them out by skidding into- Yeah, they do. But, yeah... into cops. [laughs] But, I mean, they're the most expensive tires I've ever bought in my life for anything.
11:49
Not even, yeah, not even the truck or the car or the motorcycle or- I paid, yeah, I paid less for the- Yeah, yeah, nothing... snow tires for my Fiat... right. For sure. Yeah, nothing comes close. For four. Yeah.
11:58
But, but as you said, they last a really long time and, and they are amazing. So, um, so anyway, so that's the report.
12:06
Um, the, the one thing I'll say to folks that are coming up to race and then to ride the other trails, the CAMBA groomed trails, most of the trails are closed.
12:15
Um, still because, uh, and they probably, it's unlikely they'll get opened this winter. Maybe. Um, Camba, uh, volunteers have been pretty good, but, um, it's just...
12:26
Uh, uh, you know, I can't say that if, if things warm up and every, and all the bent over trees melt and stand back up again, it might be a different story- [laughs]... a, a week from now. Wow.
12:36
So you'll be a second This week I've, um-... firefighter... but this, this weekend most things are closed. Seeley Pass is open, Glory View is open. Uh, both of those were just recently cleared.
12:46
The hospital trails I know are open. I'm sure they'll have a few more things open. I haven't heard anything about, uh, the Seeley Hills Trails being open.
12:55
Uh, every time I, you know, go past one of the trailhead things, all I can see are dead fall all over everything, so it doesn't look like anybody's been in there clearing that stuff.
13:04
Um- Yeah, you, you sent a couple pictures down, uh, this morning, and, uh, how much ice was actually on the trees? It looked like it was, it was a pretty good, uh, pretty good storm. Yeah.
13:14
The trees are pretty much layered with, with, you know, a, a quarter inch of ice- Mm... solid. So it's, it's a, it's a weight. That's a lot of weight. And so- Yeah...
13:23
the, yeah, the, we're c- [laughs] You know, it sounds like little explosions go, little gunshots- Right. [laughs]... going off in the wood constantly- Yeah...
13:30
because all these limbs continually are just constantly breaking off- Snapping... and falling.
13:34
So, um, uh, but it, it has, you know, just from some wind and some sun and natural evaporation, um, we have lost some of that weight in, in the more sunnier spots. So the forest is sort of rebounding and I'm...
13:51
Uh, next week the trails, uh, it sounds like it's gonna be warmer and the trails should open up a lot more, but there will still be all the dead fall to clear, um, the actual branches that, that broke off.
14:02
Part of the problem right now is that so many of these, these smaller trees are just bent over and they're bent over across the trail. So those, when they, when they melt, will stand back up.
14:14
Um, but all the dead fall still needs to be cleared. Right on. Well, that sounds like, uh, at least for the racers it's gonna be a good thing for sure. And, uh, you know that, uh- Yeah, I'm sure they're- Fast... yeah.
14:28
Yeah. I'm sure the course will be great. Right. So we'll see. Puck is coming up with me on Friday, tomorrow, because we're gonna do this a day early. Okay.
14:36
And then, uh, Spinner and Chewy should be up there Friday as well. Oh, geez. So we're, we're gonna stay at the Casa de Schlabowski there in Seeley Dave land. Okay. So y- You have extra insurance?
14:46
So you and Luntz are gonna show up to- tomorrow sometime? Friday. Yeah, yeah, it'll be about s- you know, dinner time-ish. I think we're gonna just maybe because it's easier- Okay...
14:55
meet at the sawmill because those guys all know where the sawmill is. And if we're there at, you know, s- six o'clock. But you said you a- But you said you and Luntz are coming tomorrow evening, is that correct?
15:05
Well, Friday. Friday. Ti- That w- in internet time, because we're gonna post this Thursday instead of Friday. Tomorrow will be- Oh, right. [laughs] I'm sorry. Yeah, right. [laughs] Sorry. The magic.
15:14
The magic of the internet. So, so let's use, let's use the n- the names so you- You're gonna have your Google Leave list with it... you guys are all showing up, you're all showing up Friday. Friday. Correct.
15:23
Around dinner time-ish, yeah. Time stamps, Dave. Okay. So, uh, it- And those guys are just... Chew- Chewy and Spinner are just driving up separately, but, um, but- I believe so.
15:31
I th- yeah, Chewy actually has a, a hockey thing- Okay... and Spinner's, I don't know what he's doing. But, uh, I do know this, we got to the top of the hill there and, uh- Oh.
15:42
Well, JK's rampaging through the [laughs]... Oh, look at that. Uh-oh. Uh, Tony picked up our show beer today- Please... from Gathering Place.
15:49
You know, I keep going like by Otto's and then I'm like, "Why would I buy something at Otto's when we have three, four, five breweries within, like, a mile and a half of [laughs] where we are right now?"
15:59
I'd much rather support them. Right. And this is Gathering Place's Tropidelico. I believe we've had this before. We've had this. Yeah. We had the Crawlers.
16:06
It's an IPA to enjoy somewhere tropical, like when it's seven below in Seeley, for instance. Or anywhere else for that matter. See how they got to that- Yeah... after I came up with that? Mm. See that?
16:16
Soft and light in body and a palate-friendly bitterness. Aromas of guava, lime zest- [laughs]... papaya, lemongrass and pineapple. No apricot for Michael. No, but I brought the Arby's sauce- [laughs]...
16:29
'cause it was right next to the beers. [laughs] I... It's, it's good stuff. We've had this before. Yeah, we have. It's good. We're gonna... This is gonna be a theme now I think.
16:38
But, but I was- I mean, you can only drink so many beers in 155 shows and not kind of repeat beer every once in a while. But while purchasing said beer, I was told that there's a new IPA they are releasing next week, so.
16:51
An IPA? Uh, an IPA you say. An IPA. So we will see one again soon. This is an American IPA. It's an APA. America. Or is it a New England? I don't know. No. Shit. Whatever. It's a new Am- [laughs] It's a new American IPA.
17:04
Only the 6.0 on the ABV. Yeah, it's not terribly heavy. And a little IBUs of 48 there. Yeah. It's a good beer. Easy drinking. What, what are you sucking down, Dave? You got, you got anything going there?
17:13
Uh, actually we should bring some beer back from Hayward probably. Uh, yeah. Third? I'm, I'm, uh, you know, just one of my local faves, the, the River Pig from Angry Minnow.
17:23
It's, you know, they're, they're slightly hoppy pale ale. Um, it's, it's was always my favorite beer of theirs for a long time. It's, it's named after the log that you ride on. I think I've mentioned that before- Yep.
17:35
Yeah... 'cause I've probably had it [laughs] on the show as well. You probably have had it before.
17:38
Um, that log, that big log by Gravity Cave that y- you can ride, you know, like sort of shaved log, um, is called River Pig up there, so I'm having one of those. But, uh, yeah. Well, okay.
17:51
Well, hey, guys, uh, I'm gonna take off. Um, Greg, at least you know I have power again and internet again and- [laughs] These, these are good things. I re- You got, you got the heat going...
18:02
I repaired the worst of the storm damage. Right on. So you won't, you don't need to bring your, your minus 20 sleeping bag, um- [laughs] I do have one though just in case...
18:11
and your water filtration and your Trangia to melt snow. And I also have this thing that powers a lot of stuff for a long time- Yeah...
18:17
that I could have brought up there just in case I need to use my computer or charge my camera batteries or something. You know, I- Well, well we're- So, so here's a, here's an interesting thing... we're back on the grid.
18:26
Right on. Well, I mean, you know, Saturday morning, the, the race starts at 8:00 in the morning, and it's gonna be at or below zero, I think, around that time.
18:35
Um, how does your camera work in the very, very frigid weather? You kinda- So I, my camera is, it's the new, the Sony a7 III has got bigger batteries. It, it works pretty much, I never have trouble with it.
18:49
Of course, I always bring a extra battery or two and keep it, you know, in an inside pocket to keep it warm. But I don't really have problems.
18:58
I will say, now that you brought up the camera thing, um, could be epic photos this year because of, uh, the, you know, the trees'll still be covered with that, that ice and, uh, boy, it, it's just amazingly beautiful up here.
19:11
It's hard for me to sort of...
19:13
I, it's a double-edged sword because, like I saying, so much time, like, repairing railings and decks and clearing deadfall and stuff from the storm and being without power, but I have to say, um, it's absolutely gorgeous out there in the woods- Nice...
19:27
with everything coated with ice, so. Right on. So make nice photos. Are you going to be shooting or are you working the event? Um, so I think I'm gonna go up to the start a little bit.
19:37
Um, and then I, I got a tent bar I'm filling in at the, uh, Rivers Eatery. Um, so I'll be pouring beer from 4:00 to 8:30 for any of the listeners that wanna stop in and say hey- Sounds good... at Rivers.
19:50
We'll have to reconnoiter a little bit on what, uh, 'cause I'd like to get at least two or three spots. I've, I've usually managed to be, you know, in, in the front of the leaders at different spots on the course,
20:01
and it's, it, it's like- Ah... it's like a challenge because they're going really fast. [laughs] And you're like, "Well, they're like-" Right...
20:07
"They got like five miles and I can get over there," and you're like, "Well, they're already past," and you're now into the, you know, the middle- Yeah... of the pack or whatever.
20:14
You're like, "I'm racing more than they are." [laughs] Yeah.
20:16
[laughs] If you look at the course, if you look at the course, I mean, you know, they go down on, you know, the, the skate trail and back on the, on the, um, classic trail, um, so there are places where they're close together, so you could just cut across and catch them coming back too.
20:34
Right, yeah. That's what I've managed to do in the past. It's, it's like just- And, you know, um-... find that little hourglass squeeze area.
20:41
Yeah, and this is late in the season, so it's, it honestly, um, you know, I mean,
20:47
I, I've never heard that you're allowed to do this, but everybody else is riding their bikes on the Birkie trail this one day anyway, so if you wanted [laughs] to, you know, just jump in and, and ride along for a while and then cut across to the other side and then ride back a little while or something like that on the Birkie course and cut back and forth from the skate to classic, um, trails, I think you could probably manage probably four spots.
21:13
Okay. Yeah. And get photos. Un- unsanctioned, but, uh, definitely possible. Right. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah, kinda like- But that doesn't matter. That doesn't matter...
21:19
yeah, like the Harley, the Harley parade swim across Wisconsin. Oh. Yeah, for sure. Where we just kinda like, "Okay, just da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da." Yeah. We're... you know? Yep. Yep.
21:29
[laughs] Just kinda sashay across as they're- Yeah, exactly... as they're, as they're slow rolling past you. Yeah. Well- These guys aren't slow rolling, though. That's a problem with this is you- Yeah...
21:36
you, you, when you're, you know, shooting, you kind of have to [laughs] definitely pay attention- No, no, no. Yeah, yeah... or somebody's coming at you you didn't, you didn't, you didn't think. Well, you, uh...
21:44
All right, Dave, uh, we'll see you Friday. Okay. Um, and if you happen to hear if, uh, uh, those guys are bringing the, the, um, mongrel hounds, um, let me know. I will. If they want them to bring the dogs.
21:58
I, I sent him a note that, I sent a note that Spinner's good with it. I don't know if he's going to bring them or not.
22:04
I think he does have a dog sitter, but he wasn't positive whether he was gonna bring them up or not, so. But at least he knows they're- Okay. If you hear, like just... Yeah, we'll- If you hear, just shoot me a text.
22:14
Okay. Sounds good. One way or the other. I just do a couple of things to the railing and stuff to make it, um, different if people are bringing dogs, so. Yeah, just keep my, my bedroom door closed so I don't- [laughs]...
22:24
'cause I'm allergic to dogs, so. [laughs] Yeah, have- Make sure that door is closed. Yeah, have the shockless collar on. Right. [laughs] The shock, the electric fence. You know which- Run around...
22:32
you know which bedroom I like up there. I got, I got my room. Aw. All right, Dave. We'll see you in a couple days. All righty. Okay, buddy. All right. See you guys. Yep. See you. Adios. Take care.
22:42
See ya later, Dave, everybody. So I, you know, it's, it's always a crapshoot with weather up there, but I think almost every Birkie has been really good.
22:53
I mean, a, a testament to how well they prepare it, I think, because it's definitely variable conditions, but looking forward to it and, uh, we'll have some photos next week. Maybe we'll talk to some people up there.
23:08
My Lord. Should we talk to some winners or losers? I think you should. Or... Well, if nothing else, we'll talk to Chewy and Spinner for sure. I think we'll, I think we'll do a- Local townsfolk. I think we'll do a show.
23:17
They'll tolerate you. I think we'll do a show up there probably. That's what I'm thinking. A local constable for whoever ends up in the, uh, pokey. These, are you bringing, uh, bail money, right?
23:27
Um, just noticed that I'm really thin on cash- Well... this time of year because- I'm just-...
23:32
being in the bike business, guys, when you don't have a winter is- You're kinda, you're kinda listening to this going like-... any kind of money... kinda rolls right into... What? Bail money. The Crypto Minute?
23:40
The Crypto Minute. The Crypto Minute. Bail money. Well, it is on the rise just a little bit again. Yeah, a little bit. Little bit. Tony, Tony got his Helium miner, uh- Emails... emails that say- Finally...
23:52
well, you know. I, people have been waiting six to nine months, so I, we're in the zone. Like you're gonna give birth? Yeah, pretty much, to big fat piles of money. Hopefully. [laughs] Money, money, money.
24:04
All right, so- Scrooge McDuck style... so I've been playing with the- Whee... I don't know. If you can go on the Helium site and go to explorer.helium.com- Yep...
24:12
and you [laughs] can look at what miners are making in your area. Here's my advice to you, Tony. Use the North House because it's almost twice as much as the South House. Is that right?
24:23
Yeah, even though they're only a few blocks apart. Why? I don't know, but it was- I mean-... uh, for the 30 days, now, you know, Helium's way down too. It's at like 21 or something. Sure. It was at 50-something.
24:33
I think so. But- So it, the 247 for 30 days versus 125 And that's only, and, and that's only, whatever, six blocks apart? Four. Four. Okay, here's the key.
24:46
Get your antenna as much gain as you can get and get as high as you can get it. Yeah. And then you're gonna be good to go. I know, I'm excited. I- it's- now it's almost more of an experiment and- Totally. Totally...
24:57
more of a, more of a hobby because when we first- But it was a freaking thousand dollar hobby. [sighs] Yeah, but it'll pay for itself in three to five months-ish. [laughs] Patience. Look to the turtle.
25:08
Look to the turtle. Maybe, maybe still a mature- It's the long game, Tony... it is. I'm, I'm- Look to the turtle...
25:12
I'm doing this as a, both an experiment and a, I'm intrigued, and I do hope that I at least make my money back before 5G takes over everything and- Yeah, that's not gonna happen. I hope not.
25:25
[sighs] Have you seen the, the picture of the tower all droopy? It's like 5G is not realizing its full potential. It's like those icy trees- [laughs]... up in Hayward. Like, it's kinda drooping over.
25:36
You know, plus there's, like, three different 5Gs at least, right? Mm-hmm. It's, there's not just one. Like the new fancy iPhone SE they just introduced a couple days ago. Yes.
25:47
Does it use the nanometer wave nano-nanometer nano? It's the least expensive one you can get. I almost bought one 'cause I like how tiny they are. 'Cause it's a le- [sighs] they are just masters- [laughs]...
25:58
of the apple juice marketing. I know. I was- And you just, bam-... sucker... bam, bam. Feel stuck in the crane... give it to me. Give it to me. Give it to me. [sighs] I am not going- Apple cider donuts... got it...
26:07
it just sounds right. Eh. I just, I just wanna sell my car and buy that, that, that Studio. That's so cool. Yeah. Speaking of car, they released the Buzz today. Or yesterday. The Bus Buzz? The VW Buzz. The Bus Buzz?
26:22
Yeah. Oh. Electric. It's not gonna be an ID54321? No. Last stop? It's not nearly as sexy as it was in prototype form. Well, nothing ever really is. I- Is it as terribly expensive as I anticipate it shall be? Yes.
26:35
That's what- Okay... they are saying it's going to be. Then I don't care. Huh. Volkswagen should not- [laughs]... cost $80,000. What? Well- Not for a van... no, no, no, no, no, no. I'm going Maverick pickup truck maybe.
26:47
Oh, no. You know, that's high up on my list for a replacement vehicle. Absolutely. So, yeah, you know, I mean, if you- 40, 40 miles to the gallon in a four-passenger, five-passenger pickup truck? Yeah, all day long.
26:57
And if you can really get the base one because I'm just gonna throw all my stuff on it anyway. Right. So for 20 grand? For, for 20 Gs. Hell outta here. You're making money buying a car. You're making money.
27:08
The o- the only problem with that is they don't make it with three pedals. Oh, whatever. Crying out loud, get over it. Jeez. Does it have a- You like a stick shift? Does it have a CVT? It only drives stick shift.
27:19
[laughs] Oh, for... Oh, Christ. A cockpit maybe. I mean, I am no craftsman, but I can make one and put it there. Yeah. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Put a little eight ball on top of it- Brr...
27:27
or a gear shifter looking thing maybe. Brr, brr. Yeah. With noises. We could- Brr, brr. Yeah. Bring, bring back the Schwinn Stingray five-speed. Grr. Grr. Grr. See, there's a bike thing 'cause this is a bike show. Yeah.
27:39
See that bike thing I did? Yeah, I did. Speaking of bike things- I rode a bike here... we got Wu-Tang Klunkers. We do. I saw that. Right downstairs. Bright yellow. Bright yellow. They're pretty cool.
27:48
They're a pretty cool looking bike. [laughs] I mean, Klunkers are- As the, what- Ugh... 10 shows ago, I never understood what the deal was with a Klunker, and then I sat one, on one and rode it to Gathering Place.
27:59
[laughs] That's the last time we had drop a cat, [laughs] is I rode the bike there and that- Oh, there you go... that bike, within two cranks is a green mobile. Yeah. We had- You reali- it's an adult- [laughs]...
28:12
kid's bike. It's like- We got a yellow one you can- This is so much fun... put the Wu-Tang on it. The first time you have to stop, you're like, "Wait a minute." I don't wanna. "What do I do?
28:20
Oh, oh, wait, I gotta kick back." [imitates brakes] Coaster. [laughs] Kickback? Kickback bra- it has kickback two speed. The, the kickback- It's not a two speed. It's just a coaster. Yeah. That, oh, oh, plant the seat.
28:30
Pull my base for your face. Pl- plant that for, for next- Well, you can kick, you can do that. I mean, you just- You can just retrofit a two speed on it... buy one and retrofit it. Yeah, I suppose.
28:37
Plus, we're also- Wait. What about two speeds? I don't, haven't gotten them yet, but we're getting the single speed more road, you know, urban commuter bike too, which is really- That's intriguing to me... pretty slick.
28:46
Yeah. And these things are, like- Is that drop?... 500. They're not expensive bikes. Is that a drop bar or is that a straight bar commuter bar? I got the ones with the slight riser bar. [whistles] Nice. Nice.
28:53
Not the drop bar. Who the hell rides- Speak-... a drop bar? Speaking of- That's just not... Why would you, why would you do that? [laughs] Greg, speaking of light riser bar, could you tell me what's going on back there?
29:01
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Michael, can you go grab the, the thingy? Is that the Mill House? That is the Mill House. The Mill House is in the house. Well, these things have been- There you go, Bart. Thank you.
29:13
It's a Mill House. See? See? Look how sexy it is. If Tony took a picture, you could see it.
29:18
Actually, I took some pictures 'cause, uh, Steven's been riding this around on his commuter bike down there, the Marin he has downstairs. Um, but it- You will always be a Moonraker... excuse me, cover my Marin.
29:31
It is a, a s- i- it's not a BMX bar quite, but it sure looks like one. Ish. Looks motocross-ish. Yeah. Eh, I'd go with BMX. I mean, j- eh. But it has some wicked nice backsweep, some wicked nice upsweep. I, yeah.
29:44
It's 825 millimeters wide. It does- It's super wide. It does not have a weight rating. Apparently, you can do whatever the hell you want to it. I'm- We had this- I-... discussion last week...
29:53
I don't know if carbon fiber's gotten that much better, but apparently it has. Damn it. So, uh, these- Or- Let me take that from you... or- So these things are- [laughs] And then what?
30:03
These things are, I don't know that they're even in stock anymore, but we have a few of them if anybody wants one. They're not cheap. I think they retail for two and a quarter.
30:11
[laughs] Vanna White, I, uh- Oh, I would say I didn't know that. But that said, it's gonna lighten your bike by many, many, many grams. Grams, I tell you. Gram shaving. Well, I'll tell you what. You want an ounce, Will?
30:21
Compared to- A pound. Well, compa- [laughs] Gram, gram sha- shopping... but wait, compared to, like, a Sunrise bar, this is, like, 28 Sunrise bars or something. Oh, true that. You'd have to have- Yeah, yeah, yeah...
30:31
28 of these to make one. I know, those things are heavy. [laughs] But they're badass. I, I, I like these. Yeah, it's so sharp. I like how, I, I like the bend on it. Yeah.
30:38
And I'm- And I like, I, I like the profile of the BMX. Uh-huh. I'm kinda liking that whole thing even on my mountain bikes now. Yeah. That's what I have on my, uh, beater.
30:47
You know my friend Christopher, he's crazy about that too Is he? Yeah, yeah. He loves- Well, he's a tall guy too, though. That helps That might be one of the main reasons he likes it. Yeah.
30:56
Yeah, I mean- See, that kicks you up at least a little bit more He would love that bar over there, you got over there, that's for sure. Yeah. Yeah, well, we've got a couple left, so, uh- Yeah. I'll be telling him.
31:04
Yeah Here's another thing. I don't know if anybody on, uh, a listener can help us, but I lost my Kershaw Skyline, my favorite everyday carry knife. I can't find it. Fortunately, I have another one. Oh.
31:17
[laughs] But I lost my favorite all-black one. I can't find it. Maybe it's just stealthily hiding on some carpeting- Yeah, because it's black... somewhere or something.
31:24
I don't know I like the gold one myself And here, but here's the problem. They're not making it anymore. I don't know if this is a temporary- That's why-...
31:30
pandemic thing, but all the US production of a lot of really popular kniveses- Jesus... have been, uh, it's been hard to get US- Yeah... made kniveses. Nobody fucks with the Jesus. That's not a knife. Jesus.
31:44
No, it's a [laughs] it's a gas station Jesus. Stab that Arby's sauce packet right there with it and let's see what happens. [laughs] Seriously? No. [laughs] Hey, here's another thing. Oh.
31:57
J- I think JK threw this in there today. Tenacious D- Yeah... coming, coming to the VMO Pavilion here at the- The greatest-... the Summerfest grounds He's wonderful The greatest and best band in the world.
32:07
The secret of his power. I just- Well, it just, it came a- across as- I'm sad... during a, during a smoke break and I was like, "Oh. Oh. Oh, this is awesome." And it was- Is that the toupee, or is that the downtown?
32:20
What? Or is that the, the Summerfest? That's- Yeah... that's downtown. Okay. I mean, Summerfest. Yeah, okay. That's better. I thought it was at the toupee. Yeah, VMO. Yeah, at the, at the end of,
32:30
at the end of the, uh, Summerfest Island thing- Oh, I'll go, I'll go hang out in the back and listen with you. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. After. I wanna see Kyle. I wanna see KG. KG. They'll come out. KG.
32:39
[laughs] Having seen Tenacious D a number of times live, you really- Chables... should see them live. They're freaking incredible. I mean, I'll pay or win- I, I saw-... or however, but I won't, I'm not remiss to...
32:50
I love poaching shows like that. I saw Jack Black- That's pretty good... with the Beastie Boys. I s- Oh... I saw the Foo Fighters in, right by the porta potty. [laughs] That's how you watch a show. Yeah.
33:03
Are they taking chicks? The, the Rock, the Rock the Vote Tour, they played- Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah... so Jack Black came out with Crosby and Stills- Oh... Ben Folds Five, and the Beastie Boys, and played his show, too.
33:14
Huh. Wow. It was great. Yeah. How a guy that big can perform that well that long- He goes- He's got those eye- Probably cocaine... he's got those eyebrows things going on.
33:22
Yeah, he does With the kind of eyebrow deal he has. This is- You wanna follow me on Instagram- He's just all, "We're the world." Yeah. I wish we could just- Oh, my gosh...
33:30
I wish we could just poach some- And if you haven't watched The Hot Ones, him and Kyle doing The Hot Ones, hilarious. Oh, yeah. That and Thundercat are the two best episodes. Ho. Billie Eilish might be the third.
33:40
So if you actually check out Bob Roberts, the movie, I think that was Jack Black's first film role- Really?... which is really a crazy fucking movie, 'cause it's semi-docu- mockumentary, but in a very eerily, mm, in...
33:59
Bob Roberts, everybody. [laughs] I always thought- Michael likes to emote... Jackal was his first, uh- His feelings... movie. Well, yeah. It's meh, aw, eh. Yeah. It's burp. Er, er, eh.
34:10
[imitates trumpet] Nobody fuck with the Jesus, so... [laughs] I wouldn't wanna fuck with that at all. No, I, it was like, it's like I need a, a, a knife, and like, you know, in the gas station, they have the thing.
34:21
[laughs] That's even more. Don't fuck with the Jesus. And it just go, and it was like all of a sudden there was a Jesus one. $8 or something. And I was like, "Five bucks." Five bucks. [laughs] I was like, "Five bucks."
34:28
I'm like, "I need something to cut sausages." That would be nice. [laughs] I need something to cut sausages with. [laughs] He'll, he'll snap off a Jesus' uh- I'm from Wisconsin... carotid artery...
34:35
I need to cut my cheeses and sausages. I- So I need one, and I might as well get one that says Jesus, so nobody fuck with the Jesus. Yeah. And then I can use my Lebowski knowledge, and then... [hums] Right on.
34:47
Well- Ooh, I'm exhausted... that's it. We did it again. [laughs] Thanks to M- Mr. Dave Schlabowski for his, uh, reporting on the fat bike Birky. Bir. Uh, Bir, Bir, Birky. Birky. [laughs] No shit. Wow, wow.
35:02
We're gonna be up there. We're gonna probably do something. Well, I don't know if it's gonna be worth listening to, but I imagine we'll do a show. And bring back beer.
35:09
And bring back beer, both from Angry Minnow and from, uh, Earth Rider, I hope. And Snorties. I think we should probably have both of those. Right on. A two, a two-tap, a, a double tap of the hill. Oof.
35:19
Double tap of the hill. All right, everybody. Thanks, uh, thanks, uh, Sam D- Yeah... for sitting in. Thank you. Yeah. Thanks to, uh, JK and Tony, and uh, Adam and Anne. Oh, thank you. All right. Thank you.
35:29
Well, well, no, thank you. And bye-bye.
35:31
[upbeat music]
