- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? Welcome to Watch Your Lee
- 0:15Service Scary Movie, the podcast.
- 0:17Are we talking about the good, the bad, the ugly and the
- 0:19absurd? And all of our favorite and
- 0:21Lee's favorite scary movie? Because we believe every horror
- 0:23movie rightfully has this fan base.
- 0:25Even if we don't always get it. My name is Travis, my name is
- 0:28Jesse, and welcome back to another live, uncut and mostly
- 0:32undrawn bonus episode of To Be or Not To Be.
- 0:37This is our monthly series where we go to the free streaming
- 0:40services and check out a movie we may not have otherwise have
- 0:43heard about. So this month, first of all, I
- 0:46want to thank you guys for your patience on the main on our main
- 0:50schedule last week. I finally have my voice back.
- 0:53As you can hear I I so I'm just going to be transparent with you
- 0:58guys. I had a muscle issue in my like
- 1:01neck and shoulder and it was like spasming really hard,
- 1:04couldn't turn my head. I was in a lot of incredible
- 1:06pain, couldn't sleep and it just like was irritated to the point
- 1:10where it was like also irritating my vocal cords and
- 1:12making it really hard to speak. It's mostly taken care of now,
- 1:16but my voice might crack a couple of times as we're talking
- 1:18today and also on next week's episode because we'll be
- 1:21recording that after this today. Yeah.
- 1:24But that that's the gist of what happened.
- 1:26So thank you guys for your patience and the and the wishes
- 1:30of support to get well. It worked out having to be being
- 1:34this week because we always have something else out now.
- 1:37Yeah, Yes, yes, we. You know, we had to do the the
- 1:41Patreon episode. I hope that, you know, I hope
- 1:43you guys like that. Yeah.
- 1:45That some of you that you know haven't had the chance to listen
- 1:47to our Patreon yet. Yeah, that's kind of an idea of
- 1:50what our Patreon bonus episodes are like.
- 1:52Sometimes we do bonus movie reviews, sometimes we play games
- 1:55like that, sometimes we do commentaries.
- 1:57We just recorded this month for March, and it was a tournament
- 2:02of horror movie sequels, Yeah. So if you are interested in
- 2:05that, we're doing a thing now. Yes, Patreon has a thing where
- 2:08you can like buy individual. Episodes, yeah.
- 2:10If you don't want to subscribe, if you just want to listen to an
- 2:13individual episode, we're going to be trialing that with our
- 2:15next couple of months. As long as the feature stays
- 2:17active, we're going to set those prices at $5 for an individual
- 2:21episode. And if you'll notice, the budget
- 2:24tier level is only $6 and you get the bonus episodes, you get
- 2:28stickers each month, you get a shout out on the main feed
- 2:31episodes, and you can vote and you get our notes like you get a
- 2:37lot extra for a single dollar more.
- 2:39Yeah, you know, but we like to give options.
- 2:42Yeah, we're given options. It gives you a taste.
- 2:44That way if you want to just try it, you can.
- 2:47And if it ends up being a popular idea, we'll see if maybe
- 2:50we can go unlock some of our past ones for that purchase.
- 2:53Yeah, we can. I don't know.
- 2:55I don't know if that's a thing we can do or not, but we'll look
- 2:57into it. We'll see.
- 2:58We'll see. Depending, yeah.
- 3:00But yeah, so we got all of that going on, but let's get on with
- 3:05some tubi, I'd say. Yes.
- 3:07Let's talk about this weird ass movie.
- 3:08I hope you guys watch this movie because.
- 3:10I think. People need to see what we're
- 3:12about to discuss. So if you're watching it on
- 3:14Tubi, you're gonna wanna search for Demon Island.
- 3:19But right away, I'm going to tell you it goes by many names.
- 3:22Oh, really? Yeah.
- 3:24I love this. Demon Island.
- 3:25Survival Island. Or Pinata or Pinata Survival
- 3:30Island. Or Pinata Demon Island.
- 3:33The Demon Pinata Island. So there are options for how you
- 3:38want to refer to it. They're all the same movie
- 3:41though. The poster is nothing like what
- 3:44the movie looks like. Yeah, yeah, the poster is one of
- 3:47my favorite things. It's got photoshopped heads on,
- 3:51not the actor's body. Yes, Yeah.
- 3:54It's hilarious. Yeah.
- 3:56So I'm gonna call it Demon Island because that's until like
- 4:00an hour ago, that's what I thought this movie was called.
- 4:03Yeah. That's what it's on Tubi.
- 4:05So that's what we. Are gonna call it.
- 4:08I will not let myself have an existential crisis over this
- 4:12goddamn movie. Yeah.
- 4:15And that's, yeah, you can't allow that.
- 4:19That's when you've just, like, lost.
- 4:21At that point. So this premiered June 14th,
- 4:242002. Obviously you can watch it on
- 4:26TV. Written and directed by David
- 4:29Hillenbrand and Scott Hillenbrand.
- 4:31Music by David Hillenbrand as David Beryl.
- 4:36David Barrel. Yeah, OK.
- 4:39I. What the what the fuck is
- 4:41happening with this movie? I don't understand this.
- 4:43Listen, we don't do background information for these for the
- 4:47two VR not to be series, but I got so much stuff
- 4:50unintentionally. It's insane.
- 4:53Special effects makeup. The manager of the special
- 4:56effects makeup department and the creature design was Paul
- 4:59Kemp. OK.
- 5:00Starring Nicholas Brennan is Kyle.
- 5:02Jamie Presley is Tina, Eugene Bird It's Doug Casey.
- 5:06Follow is Monica. Laura Wicks is Lisa and Ed Gale
- 5:10as the Pineta. Yeah, Jamie Presley becoming the
- 5:14Darwin of the Toby. Or not.
- 5:15Yeah, apparently. Probably what she's wanted her
- 5:18whole career. Yeah, yeah, she's if you are
- 5:21curious of the other one. It was a cruel world, I.
- 5:24Think yeah, that's what. It was that we discussed before.
- 5:26Yeah, it was like a reality TV got the thing got.
- 5:29John Carter from. Terminator.
- 5:31Two, it's the villain. It's a weird one.
- 5:34And I can't remember the actor's name, but he's Damien and Mean
- 5:38Girls. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:40OK, Travis. Yeah, it's my favorite game.
- 5:42Budget or bug, Ted? Do you actually have one?
- 5:46No. OK, I mean it's bug Ted I'm.
- 5:49Pretty sure it was straight to TV.
- 5:52What I understand, yeah. Wow, it's got an IMDb score of
- 5:582.5 out of 10. Whoa, You know, OK, I get it.
- 6:03I get. It OK, I picked 3 movies from
- 6:072002 and the theme is movies that sound suspiciously like
- 6:12other movies. But this first one, you will
- 6:16notice. I told you it was actually my
- 6:19inspiration for picking Demon Island, because Demon Island's
- 6:23plot sounded a lot like it, where a group of young adults go
- 6:28to an island where there's a spooky ghost attacking them.
- 6:31That's right, it's Scooby-doo. Oh, scooby-doo.
- 6:35Yeah, you didn't. Say that, didn't you?
- 6:36So Demon Island I feel like is the true RIP off here.
- 6:39Do you want to hear something really wild?
- 6:41Came out same day. Are you kidding me?
- 6:43It's June 14th. Maybe they that was like one of
- 6:46those ones where they do the they get the screep, yeah, the
- 6:49screep, the script leak and they're like, OK, we got to make
- 6:52that movie too. Yes, but first we got to release
- 6:55it first. So that had a budget of $84
- 6:59million. Holy shit.
- 7:00And it made $255 million. Yeah, I mean, those are some
- 7:04interesting little Scooby-doo movies.
- 7:05And it has a 5.3 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 7:08You know, like I feel like Scooby-doo Demon Island would be
- 7:13a a movie. Yeah, OK.
- 7:16The second movie, it's a group of people in Africa being
- 7:21attacked by snakes. Anaconda.
- 7:24No, you would think so, but it's Snake Island.
- 7:27Snake Island, OK. I released August 2002, don't
- 7:33have an exact date just August 2002.
- 7:36OK and no budget or gross. It has a 3.4 out of 10 on IMTV
- 7:43though. Oh hell yeah. 3rd movie
- 7:47scientists take the frozen DNA of a prehistoric creature and
- 7:51genetically recreate it and it gets loose into the world.
- 7:58Correct. This one is called Sabertooth.
- 8:00Sabertooth, yeah. OK, that premiered November 6th
- 8:042002. Don't have a budget or gross but
- 8:08it has a 3.5 out of 10. Nice.
- 8:11You did a good job finding these movies.
- 8:13I I'm impressed with that. Well, I almost did movies that
- 8:16take place on an island and then I was like, wait, the
- 8:19description of these all sound very similar to other well known
- 8:23movies, but the exciting scooby-doo is obviously the more
- 8:26well known movie in this case. But yeah, yeah, I have two tag
- 8:29lines. OK, the one on the poster.
- 8:32A weekend to dismember. Sure.
- 8:37OK, I don't feel like much dismembering really happened
- 8:39sadly. You gotta have a pinata pun.
- 8:42Yeah, it's. The second one pinata related.
- 8:44No. OK, this one makes sense.
- 8:47If you know that one of the titles is Survival Island, you
- 8:50don't get voted off the island, you get slaughtered off.
- 8:55I kinda like that. It makes sense if you know an
- 8:58alternate name. It didn't make sense with Demon
- 9:01Island. I did get Survivor vibes
- 9:03watching this movie. A little bit.
- 9:05A little bit, a little bit, yeah.
- 9:06So like I said, we don't do background info on these because
- 9:10they're just fun little bonus episodes.
- 9:12But I will go ahead and share why I picked it.
- 9:16OK. It's honestly, it's because I
- 9:18wanted to watch something Spring Brikey, Spring Bri.
- 9:22And the discussion reminded me a lot of scooby-doo.
- 9:24Well, that's good. Yeah, that's that's where my
- 9:28brain went. And the fact that it was Jamie
- 9:31Presley and Nicholas Brendan was a bonus, not Nicholas Brennan as
- 9:33a person. He's got a lot of questionable
- 9:35behavior, but he he is. Oh God, we don't have time but
- 9:41but Buffy obviously is one of my favorite shows so.
- 9:44Yeah, yeah. Well, yeah.
- 9:46I mean, it's a, it's an interesting little movie, you
- 9:48know, it's not at all what I expected it to.
- 9:51Be no, no it's not. All right, so are we ready to do
- 9:55good, bad, ugly Agreed. We are.
- 9:57OK, so the goods I had. I think that this movie, it was
- 10:05more brutal than I expected it to be.
- 10:08I don't necessarily know what I expected.
- 10:11I thought I was going to get like a bunch of college kids
- 10:13just like partying on an island for a little while.
- 10:15And then something with like a like a demonic thing happens.
- 10:19And then, you know, I, I didn't expect like a slasher.
- 10:24I didn't, yeah. I didn't expect the pinata to be
- 10:26chasing them. Yeah, I didn't.
- 10:29And honestly, that thing doesn't look like a pinata, it looks
- 10:31like a statue. Yeah, I guess that's what, older
- 10:35pinatas. I wouldn't have me on the
- 10:38island. I wouldn't have looked at that.
- 10:39And then like, that's a pinata. I don't know if that's like an
- 10:43older version of a pinata, you know what I mean?
- 10:45Like, I don't know. I'm not culturally aware enough
- 10:50to know how accurate slash and or offensive this movie is.
- 10:57I feel like, see, I think the thing.
- 10:58Because it's 2002 I'm leaning towards they probably didn't do
- 11:01a ton of research no themselves. I think the thing with this
- 11:04movie is I don't think that this movie is meant to be serious.
- 11:07I don't think so. I think it's meant to be cheesy
- 11:10intentionally. Like especially from that
- 11:11opening alone. That opening is so weird.
- 11:15And the whole thing about it, I can't, I don't, I feel like it
- 11:19doesn't take itself seriously. I and I can't take it seriously
- 11:23because of that. But I think that goes into what
- 11:25I'm saying here. Like good cheesy is the thing
- 11:28that I feel like this thing had. Like it was it was the fun kind
- 11:31of cheese when you like, want to put it on like a like a bad
- 11:34movie. Yeah, but a good, bad, like
- 11:36entertaining bad type. It's not like one of those ones
- 11:39that's boring to watch. Like it like, you know, like I
- 11:41can, I can throw the sun with a bunch of people and I feel like
- 11:44we would have a good time just like watching him shitting on
- 11:48it. Yeah, plus, like, how do you get
- 11:50mad at, like, hot people partying on an island and then
- 11:52getting killed? Yeah, like.
- 11:55Yeah, I mean, that's like a staple of the.
- 11:57Genre. Exactly.
- 12:00I thought the demon attacks were interestingly shot and edited.
- 12:07They it's weird. It has like that slow motion
- 12:11thing and then it's also like that garbling sound the entire
- 12:14time. Yeah, I feel like it attacks a
- 12:17lot of your senses. Yeah.
- 12:19Which I feel like is effective for what they were trying to do
- 12:22because it did give me an interesting feeling when I saw
- 12:25that thing like killing like. Was that meant to rhyme?
- 12:29No, I didn't. What did I say?
- 12:31I don't even. Know it's an interesting feeling
- 12:33watching that thing killing. No, I didn't do that
- 12:36intentionally, but I I had fun with it.
- 12:40Yeah, I I just think that this is like a movie that was meant
- 12:43to be cheesy. I don't think this movie took
- 12:44itself seriously, and I think they had fun.
- 12:48Yeah, I I think that they definitely had fun with the
- 12:51characters. I mean, they're all very bland,
- 12:53but it's fine. They were able to write just fun
- 12:55dumb dialogue for all of them. I.
- 12:57Think they all lean into that? Though Yeah, also I'm pleasantly
- 13:01surprised with how the costume looked for the pinata.
- 13:05Yeah, it actually was really well done.
- 13:08I thought. Yeah, I didn't expect the face
- 13:10to move. Yeah.
- 13:12And I was really impressed with that.
- 13:13And I kept watching it every time the pinata would run,
- 13:18expecting to see bending in the costing or whatever.
- 13:20But it stays smooth, which I think is actually really cool
- 13:24since it's like meant to be a clay creature come to life it.
- 13:27Was one of those things where if they I feel like they had to
- 13:30shoot it in slow motion like they in a weird frame rate.
- 13:32Or else it would. Look really silly.
- 13:34Plus I just also think that was a thing at the time.
- 13:37Could be, yeah. So.
- 13:39Yeah, that's true. All right, what's your bad?
- 13:41Bad You're barraged with a lot of horror and rules to start
- 13:48this movie, which is really hard when you're doing a podcast
- 13:51trying to like take notes. Like the opening 5 minutes is
- 13:55the story of how the opinion is made.
- 13:57Then we're introduced to the cast of characters and they
- 13:59arrive on the island and then we're a barrage with like the
- 14:01rules of like how everything goes on the island.
- 14:03You don't get a moment to breathe.
- 14:05Yes, and this movie commits one of our biggest sins that we tend
- 14:09to see in To Be or not to be, which is we have 12 characters
- 14:12to look out for and we do not get a good enough introduction
- 14:16to know their fucking. Names.
- 14:17That is my next thing I I had to learn 90% of the cast from the
- 14:23subtitles. Yes.
- 14:25The movie didn't even say it would be like this person's
- 14:27talking off screen and they would just say like Kyle
- 14:29coughing off screen or something like that.
- 14:31Like, yeah, I guess that's Kyle then.
- 14:32Yeah, They, they did a really terrible job introducing
- 14:36characters. Yeah.
- 14:39I mean, that's really the the bad things I had there.
- 14:41I mean, this movie, it's not good.
- 14:46You know. It's not good.
- 14:48I'm not going to tell you it's good movie, but I feel like it's
- 14:52one of those ones like where the bad is like the fun of.
- 14:56It, Yeah, I think there's a lot of leaps in logic that do not
- 14:59make sense in this movie, which I will say I've defended
- 15:03characters making stupid choices in movies because, yeah, that's
- 15:07what you're going to do in a heightened situation.
- 15:09But there are a couple things where it's like, all right,
- 15:11absolutely, no matter what we do, we cannot split up.
- 15:13Everybody agrees they're very good about it.
- 15:15And then Doug has a rocking issue and he's like, no, guys,
- 15:17seriously. Go on.
- 15:18And to the point where I was like, is Doug also just actually
- 15:21killing people because he's so insistent on them leaving him
- 15:23behind? And they walk 10 feet and
- 15:25they're like, you know what? No, we need to turn around.
- 15:26Like that's weird. I kind of I kind of like that
- 15:29though. It just, it was weird.
- 15:31And also the fact that they're like 20 miles from mainland, but
- 15:35they took these inflatable rafts in the ocean.
- 15:40Yeah. Right, the ocean, it's that's.
- 15:43It's dangerous. Yeah.
- 15:44They they were ill prepared. Yeah, that it.
- 15:48That could have just not even been the pinata.
- 15:50That could have just been like some like sharp rocks on the
- 15:55beach. This was this is an event of
- 15:58Greek wife this sororities and fraternities organizing and
- 16:01participating in this I and that tracks with Greek wife events.
- 16:06Yes, it does. But what doesn't track, what
- 16:08doesn't track is sending a single representative for
- 16:11something like this. And it's not in any way like a
- 16:13spectator sport. That shit doesn't track at all.
- 16:15That's true. That doesn't track.
- 16:16That says to me, low budget, yeah.
- 16:20You're right about that, yeah. What is your ugly?
- 16:24Man, I don't know. God, I don't know.
- 16:29Just like the general look of everything, like we've been
- 16:34telling people that we've talked to about this, like this is the
- 16:36most aggressively 2002 movie we have ever seen.
- 16:39Yeah. The style is terrible.
- 16:42I see that shit. I'm like, Oh my God, I know
- 16:45that. I had that hair back then, but
- 16:47you know, I don't want to be reminded.
- 16:48Of it rude. I I use gel.
- 16:55No, no, I I think that would be the only ugly thing really.
- 17:00Like they find this beautiful artifact in the mud and their
- 17:04reaction is to hit it with their rock.
- 17:07They were high. That doesn't excuse it, but.
- 17:11You know, but also like a lot of people like to be like, weed
- 17:14should be legal, not alcohol, because nobody's violent when
- 17:17they've been smoking. But then these two potheads, you
- 17:20sit and they. They're ruining it for
- 17:22everybody. Yes.
- 17:23Do not show this thing to your local.
- 17:26Politics. Your state representative, do
- 17:28not let them see this. What's your absurd?
- 17:32Oh man, so my first one is this movie is basically a Predator
- 17:40knockoff. My God, it really is.
- 17:43It's. A group of people going into the
- 17:45jungle and being hunted by this fucking alien like creature who
- 17:49has predator vision. It does have predator vision.
- 17:53It is Predator. There's just like no, it's like
- 17:57a low budget version of it. Honestly the only thing we don't
- 18:00have is Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers out there.
- 18:02Like flexing their biceps and a future 2 future state governors.
- 18:07My. God, yeah.
- 18:11Am I absurd Is that Kyle is a member of Delta Lambda Delta?
- 18:15But the caption said Delta Landa, landa landa.
- 18:21That popped up and I was like, that's not a Greek letter.
- 18:25Yeah, they don't know, man. They don't know, they don't
- 18:28know. They didn't know any better.
- 18:30Forgive them, Father, but. They know what they did.
- 18:34They are. They know exactly what they did.
- 18:39All right. So it's rated good.
- 18:42You know, I, I didn't hate this thing.
- 18:44I thought it was kind of fun. Honestly, I think I'd give it a
- 18:475. Yeah, I'm leaning more towards
- 18:50the side, just a little bit over average, so I'm gonna say 5.5.
- 18:53OK, Yeah. So we have a starting average of
- 18:565.25. You know, that's not that's not
- 18:59terrible for this movie. It's not.
- 19:01It's not good for them, I say. Punching above its.
- 19:03Belt Yeah, God damn it. OK, we're ready.
- 19:08Yes. So we started off voice over
- 19:11narration about a tribe. They're living peacefully with
- 19:14the land they're flourishing. And then they start experiencing
- 19:19a drought, drought, drought. Their crops are dying, people
- 19:26are dying. So there's a local pinata maker
- 19:29named Hunuma and he starts making a pinata and it's
- 19:32apparently like, there's like a big like ritual behind it.
- 19:37One of the arms is a bear paw and they put the actual heart of
- 19:41a pig inside of it. And then when they're done with
- 19:43that, they take this pinata. And then there's also a pinata
- 19:48of good fortune, and they take him down to a sacred river, and
- 19:52the tribe's shaman like, performs a thing on each person
- 19:57and pulls their sins out and puts it in the bad pinata.
- 20:00See their sins? He just like, reaches into their
- 20:03sternum and just shit. And that's the worst fucking
- 20:06effect. And then they kiss the good
- 20:08fortune pinata. And then they send the sinful
- 20:10pinata down the river. I think it's struck by
- 20:13lightning. I don't know if that's the thing
- 20:15that really makes it evil. Like that's like, I don't.
- 20:18I feel like it felt important because it's eyes.
- 20:20Started to go. Red after that.
- 20:22I'm just gonna say is somebody who has watched a lot of how
- 20:26it's made. I love this opening and it's it
- 20:30feels very how it's made and I was I was feeling it.
- 20:33I, you know, like. I mean it is annoying to be like
- 20:38met immediately with like a shit ton of war like that you.
- 20:41Know like. It could have been you could
- 20:43have watched this play out organically.
- 20:44Yeah. But there was something so
- 20:48cheesy about this that I kind of had a good time with it still,
- 20:53so I'm going to let it slide. Yeah, and I like that we're
- 20:55hearing it this way instead of the characters having to try to
- 20:58figure out. Even though, like later we get
- 21:00Kyle saying this, I'm glad that we hear this from like, you
- 21:05know, a National Geographic narrator type because it like it
- 21:12it it feels more legit than like Nicholas friend be like, yeah,
- 21:15no, I totally studied Mexico. Yeah.
- 21:18Like I'd be like, OK. He is the guy.
- 21:21He's the leading knower. What what term am I looking for?
- 21:27He knows a lot about Cinco de Mayo.
- 21:30That's all. That's all I'm trying to say.
- 21:32Yeah. All right.
- 21:34So we see a bunch of college kids out in the ocean on two
- 21:38boats. To the tune of some incredibly
- 21:40aggressive Doo Doo. Doo Doo, Doo you.
- 21:43You were correct. Yeah, they are going hard at it.
- 21:45They're having a fun time. It kind of reminds me of that
- 21:48scene and the burning where they're paddling to the to the
- 21:51island. Oh yeah, I gotta see that.
- 21:53Yeah, each. Other throwing shit at each
- 21:55other. Yeah, good time.
- 21:57They they go to this island that belongs to their university and
- 22:01it's a future research site. More reason that the potheads,
- 22:05later assholes, start breaking the totem, the pinata, whatever
- 22:10we want to call it. It's Cinco de Mayo 2001 here and
- 22:15they arrive at the island. It's the 12th annual Cinco de
- 22:18Mayo scavenger hunt. So they get there and we, our
- 22:22judges, are to alumni, they are Monica and Paul.
- 22:27Yes, we were in that like 40 minutes.
- 22:29Yes, we're telling you now to make things easier for us as we
- 22:33discussed this movie. They all have to drink and now
- 22:37they're initiated into the game. There are 2500 pairs of
- 22:42underwear hidden around the island.
- 22:46These teams are going to be like paired off, randomly handcuffed
- 22:49together. They have to find the most
- 22:51underwear. The team with the most wins
- 22:53$20,000. Half goes to charity and half
- 22:56goes to their sorority slash fraternities.
- 22:59There are also pinatas around the island that have drinks
- 23:02inside. And because they don't want to
- 23:05be all drinking and sex, they're going to do some opening trivia
- 23:11about Cinco de Mayo. Which led to Travis giggling for
- 23:1510 minutes because one of the questions was, what is the
- 23:19significance of Cinco de Mayo? No.
- 23:21No, I think the they say, all right, So what is the meaning
- 23:26behind Cinco de Mayo? And this guy just like a mew,
- 23:29he's like. Which that felt more like not
- 23:36understanding the question. Yeah, he's.
- 23:38So exciting. He's like, I know, this one.
- 23:40I know. It all ready for it maybe.
- 23:43Like, no, it is what is it Mexico's independence?
- 23:49Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then they ask a couple other
- 23:51questions. And again, I'm not, I'm not a
- 23:53good history person. I'm sorry.
- 23:56Like I said at the beginning, I don't know if I'm not culturally
- 23:59aware enough to know how accurate and or offensive this
- 24:02movie is. No, I'm not very good on history
- 24:05either, but Xander, this is what I wrote him as at this time, is
- 24:09Kyle. He apparently knows everything
- 24:11about Cinco de. Mayo.
- 24:12Well, Tina knew some too, so they both got bonus underwear.
- 24:15You were right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:17So this is where they are all being split into pairs.
- 24:21They are being handcuffed to each other and they're going one
- 24:24at a time. Then eventually it comes down to
- 24:26Kyle and Tina and there's history between them.
- 24:30Yeah, they just broke up, Yeah. And there's something they're
- 24:34not. It's not revealed exactly what
- 24:36happened there, but there is something there that is really
- 24:38like driving a wedge between these two.
- 24:40Yeah. So they kind of decide that
- 24:42they're going to sit out because they they don't want to do this
- 24:45together. So we see the Stoner couple.
- 24:49It is Bill and Lisa. They.
- 24:52Dude OK this had one of my favorite things like where she
- 24:54keeps confusing. She's like Bill and Bob.
- 24:57I wanted them if I if I were to. Make one.
- 25:00Oh no, his name is Bob. No, yeah, if I were to make one
- 25:03change here because like later on she says Bill and or yeah,
- 25:08she says Bill again like Bob, but like I would like if she
- 25:10said Bob and they were like no Bill like so it's like back and.
- 25:13Forth, they just like correct? It to the wrong thing every
- 25:15time. Yeah, I got myself mixed up with
- 25:17my notes here. Yeah.
- 25:19So he has, like, Bob has a key, so he takes the key offs that
- 25:22way they can just, like, grab a bunch of underwear in this
- 25:25clearing and also smoke together.
- 25:26Yeah. So that's what they do.
- 25:28And then Lisa finds the pinata in the mud and pulls it out and
- 25:34Bob makes questionable choices because Bob goes over to a tree
- 25:38and picks two of the wimpiest looking sticks that break off
- 25:41immediately for him. And then he was like sure,
- 25:44surely I can beat this pinata open with this weak ass stick.
- 25:48He's he's playing into the dumb. Stoner.
- 25:50Yeah. Part here, Yeah, it doesn't
- 25:52work. And then I think he he finds a
- 25:55rock. Lisa suggests finding a rock.
- 25:57Yeah, And then we get slow motion as they break it open.
- 26:00That's how you know something bad's gonna happen.
- 26:02Yeah, and it's like they get distracted by a sound and.
- 26:07Then they turn. Around and then the pinata is
- 26:09gone. And then it's back and it's
- 26:12killing Bob. You know, I was caught off
- 26:14guard. I didn't expect it to go this
- 26:16hard this fast. No, no the.
- 26:18The effects are pretty nice. Honestly, it goes at for what it
- 26:22is, I think it's pretty nice it it goes pretty hard on Bob.
- 26:26Yeah, yeah, Bob gets yeah, Bob gets it rough.
- 26:31And we got to Connie and Larry. They're using maps slash
- 26:36markers. Larry's fraternity has like a
- 26:38secret stash of underwear somewhere I think is what
- 26:40they're looking for. Yeah, there's like a bag.
- 26:42Yeah. They like, find a little shovel
- 26:44and they're digging it up. They're hearing sounds, so they
- 26:47hide, but what they're actually hearing is Lisa running through.
- 26:51She finds them and she's like, Bob's dead.
- 26:54And so they're freaking out for a minute and then she's like,
- 26:56yeah, no, it was a pinata. And they're like.
- 26:58OK, And they smell the weed like Jesus, like you're high.
- 27:02You're you're, you're clearly dumb right now.
- 27:05I feel like she didn't smoke that much.
- 27:07She didn't like. And look, let me tell you, I
- 27:09don't think she inhaled. Weed back then, not that strong
- 27:12like it. It wouldn't produce this type of
- 27:16effect for sure. So they just, they go back to
- 27:22looking and they find a drink, Pinata, and they smash that and
- 27:25they're taking some drinks from that.
- 27:27Lisa finds the judges, Paul and Monica, and she tells them what
- 27:31happened. And they're like, and she's
- 27:32like, we need to get off the island.
- 27:33I feel like something's really bad is happening.
- 27:35And she's so insistent about it. And she keeps calling Bob Bill.
- 27:38And like it's Bob. She's like, Bill's dead.
- 27:42Bob's dead and so they're like, OK, well we're going to go take
- 27:48a look. So they're like, regardless,
- 27:49she's really upset and she is in fact covered in blood.
- 27:52So something happened. Yeah.
- 27:54So yeah, we're going to go look for him.
- 27:56Kyle and Tina are talking about what broke them up.
- 28:01And basically he says that she cheated on him in the library.
- 28:05And Kyle's like, I heard about it, you know?
- 28:10And she's like, OK, well, and then he's like, you know what?
- 28:14I'm going to go look for this underwear, and you can either
- 28:17walk along with me or I will drag you.
- 28:19So they're walking along. And she's saying, like, yeah.
- 28:22And so Maureen, you know, she didn't even give me a chance to
- 28:26tell him that. Like, as soon as that guy kissed
- 28:28me, I pushed him off of me. But no, she went and told you.
- 28:31And he was like, oh man, I should have listened to the
- 28:32whole story. Should've listened to your side
- 28:35of it. Yeah, she's like, it's OK.
- 28:37I would have thought the same thing.
- 28:38They make up here. They're on a team again.
- 28:40And this is where Paul and Monica come by and they
- 28:43unhandcuff them now that they're fine being handcuffed.
- 28:46Yeah, right. Yeah, like, OK, this is all just
- 28:48to get you guys back. To yeah, so they're like, OK, go
- 28:52back to camp, shoot the gun. Something somebody's hurt, so we
- 28:55need to get off the island. So shoot the gun some way.
- 28:57Everybody else comes back to camp and we can gather our
- 29:00supplies. Have we talked about Connie
- 29:02being killed yet? So Connie and Larry are dead
- 29:07too. They got bashed by that shovel.
- 29:10Wow, I can't believe I'm didn't write that down.
- 29:12Yeah, yeah. They they died before they
- 29:15started explaining what happened.
- 29:16So much stuff it. Kind of happens, really.
- 29:19Fast. Yeah, it really does.
- 29:20So much stuff just kind of happens to happen.
- 29:22Yeah. Paul and Monica find Bob's body
- 29:27like nailed to a tree, basically.
- 29:30Yeah, I'm this thing. That's like, that's sadistic.
- 29:34Yeah, that's an evil little pinata it.
- 29:36Played with its. Food A.
- 29:38Little bit and then. We cut to Jake and Julie.
- 29:41Yeah. They're over there making out on
- 29:43Like a Stump blog. Yeah, they see the demon pinata
- 29:48and they decide that they're going to go break it, but then
- 29:51they're killed. OK, it's not just that it
- 29:54crushes Jake's balls, it grabs him by the nuts and just, like,
- 29:59squeezes and it's pretty bad. Do we see his penis on a
- 30:04clothesline later? Cuz I feel like at one point
- 30:06like no, I swear because like there's a point later where it
- 30:10shows like all the body parts like just kind of hanging from
- 30:13clotheslines where the underwear had been.
- 30:15And I swear I saw a penis. And you might have.
- 30:18I didn't see it personally but I won't say no.
- 30:22And it attacks Julie too. I believe it kills Julie.
- 30:25Yeah, some of these are like, they keep some of them kind of
- 30:28vague. So that way later, you know,
- 30:31when we do find survivors, we're surprised.
- 30:33Yeah, the God who's the Paul? Yeah, Paul told Kyle.
- 30:40To like, hit or like, shoot the gun to like.
- 30:43Warn others. Yeah, I mentioned that.
- 30:44Yeah, so he just now does that. So everybody hears a shot and
- 30:48they are coming back towards. The camp, they're confused
- 30:51because they're like, oh, it's not sunset yet.
- 30:54So and then while they're waiting for everybody to show
- 30:56up, Kyle apologizes to Tina. Paul radios to tell Kyle to go
- 31:03ahead and get down to the boats now because they found Bob's
- 31:05body. They're like leave when the boat
- 31:07is full and they'll take the second boat when they found the
- 31:11others. Yeah, but then they go to the
- 31:13beach and they see that the boats deflated.
- 31:15OK. Doug and Carmen are lost, so we
- 31:20see that also briefly. OK, yeah.
- 31:22So the rafts are deflated like you said, and then Paul and
- 31:27Monica are on their four Wheelers going through the
- 31:30jungle and then the Pinata attacks them.
- 31:33Monica crashes her ATV and Paul helps her up and they start
- 31:37running. But they trip, and that trip is
- 31:40all it takes for the Pinata to get Paul I.
- 31:42Don't get this decision? Why not hop on his four Wheeler?
- 31:46Yeah, that would make more sense, but.
- 31:48Yeah, they're like, OK, we're going to.
- 31:49Go on foot, Yeah. And.
- 31:51It yeah, it cost him his wife, but Monica manages to escape.
- 31:54Yeah, yeah, she's hiding in like a Bush or something.
- 31:57Paula's like, battered to death. It's really gruesome.
- 32:00So we're back at the camp. It's night time now and they're
- 32:04waiting. It's.
- 32:04Just Kyle, Cena and Lisa and nobody else has shown up to the
- 32:07camp. Yeah, Kyle was telling them of
- 32:09the legend of Hanma. That's the guy that made the
- 32:13pinata, tells him that he saw hoofed footprints on the beach.
- 32:19So he's like, all right, there's something here doing something.
- 32:22I'm walking on two feet. It's not 4 feet like a normal,
- 32:25like pig or whatever. Like it might be a pinata.
- 32:30People are. People are saying, yeah.
- 32:33And then they hear sounds and it's Doug and Carmen, and they
- 32:37jump out and they're like, and they're like, guys, that's not
- 32:41cool. And that's when we get the
- 32:43flashes of body parts, like hanging from the clothes.
- 32:46And I swear there is a penis. I'm not going to fight you on
- 32:48that. There's probably a penis there
- 32:50A. Penis OK May 6th in the morning,
- 32:55they're arguing about what to do.
- 32:58Lisa doesn't want to go in the woods, but Kyle, like rallies,
- 33:02everybody's like, hey, we've got to stick together.
- 33:04Those are our brothers and sisters out there.
- 33:06We got to go find them. So as they're hiking, they find
- 33:10a dead deer. But the deer wasn't eaten.
- 33:13It was just killed for funsies is their conclusion.
- 33:16Doug wants to hang back and fix his shoe because he's got a rock
- 33:20in a shoe right here. And they're like, OK, will you
- 33:22stay back here, Doug? He is so suspicious the way he's
- 33:25doing it though. It's a little bit weird, Yeah.
- 33:29And he, because I thought, I thought it was him like doing a
- 33:33distraction. You guys go ahead.
- 33:34I'm going to stick back here and do this.
- 33:35And I thought, he's going to like, pull something.
- 33:37Out of the shoe, the pinata comes out and like they like
- 33:39high five. Yeah, yeah, I got these dummies
- 33:41for you. And we see the pinatas in it's
- 33:45predator on him. And then they're like, you know
- 33:48what? No, we can't leave and let's go
- 33:50back and get dug. So they go back there and get
- 33:52dug. So they continue walking on.
- 33:59The demon is still in pursuit and.
- 34:02It's already locked into Doug, So what he decides to do is drop
- 34:06a vine noose and pull Doug up into the tree.
- 34:09And everybody's like, too late for Doug.
- 34:12They don't see him and apparently they can't hear any
- 34:16of this shit going on right above their heads because, yeah,
- 34:19he's hanging above them just choking out.
- 34:21And they're like, they walk right below and like, where's
- 34:23Doug? I don't know what the fuck just
- 34:25happened and they're just talking about it.
- 34:27Lisa panics and she's like, I'm going back to camp and Carmen's
- 34:30like, yeah, me too. So they run and Kyle's like,
- 34:33well, I don't, I'm not doing that.
- 34:34And Tina's like me either. So Kyle's following like some
- 34:38prints and then he realizes that those Prince are going towards
- 34:42camp. So he wants to go find, wants to
- 34:47go save them. At the camp, the demon swings
- 34:52out of a tree and hits Carmen. Kyle and Tina find Lisa.
- 35:01This is awesome. This is so and here's the thing.
- 35:04You can tell that they shot in like a very limited space
- 35:07because woods all look the fucking same.
- 35:09So you don't need a huge like setting to film in woods
- 35:14because. What happened?
- 35:17So Kyle finds Monica at this point after everybody was
- 35:22running off and no, that's later.
- 35:27Lisa stops. God this movie is so jumbled up.
- 35:29I'm it is. Lisa stops a pee.
- 35:32That's what happens here, OK? And then her and Carmen are
- 35:35stopped there, and while she is peeing, they hear something.
- 35:38And that's when the demon sings out of the.
- 35:40Strings and kills Carmen. Yes, Kyle and Tina catch up to
- 35:43them and Kyle goes to go look for Carmen yes while Lisa and
- 35:49Tina stay behind. Lisa gets freaked out and goes
- 35:52running, and then Tina goes chasing after her.
- 35:55Yeah, and that's when Kyle finds Monica.
- 35:57Yeah. So Lisa gets to the camp and she
- 35:59is pulled into the tent. Yeah, she sees.
- 36:02Yeah, something's in the tent. She's like, hey, Doug or
- 36:05whoever. I don't fucking.
- 36:06Know Bill. And yeah, Bill, yeah.
- 36:10And then she just, like, gets dragged in there.
- 36:12And then Tina arrives there and she sees the demon pop out and
- 36:17then starts to run away. Yeah, and she runs and she
- 36:19manages to catch up to Kyle and Monica.
- 36:21She had left them like a branch arrow, so that way they knew
- 36:24which way she was going. Yeah, but she ends up catching
- 36:26up to them. So she's up there with Monica
- 36:29and Kyle now, and they are now hiding and the demon can't
- 36:35really trace them. So the demon, like, stays there
- 36:38for hours apparently because it is now night time.
- 36:40Yeah. And they were still in that same
- 36:42hiding spot. So they decide that they need to
- 36:44get to the ATVs because they want to get the gas.
- 36:47So they throw a rock to distract the demon and then they run the
- 36:50other way and they've eventually managed to get to the crash site
- 36:55after being lost for a while. That's a lot of this movie is
- 36:57just being lost. Yeah, pretty much.
- 36:59They they get into the gas sink, they siphon some gas and then
- 37:02they run off. They find Paul's body at one
- 37:06point and they take his walkie and then they eventually get to
- 37:09camp and they set up their trap. A montage?
- 37:13A trap setting montage. I figured you would be in favor
- 37:16of this. It wasn't like my favorite
- 37:19montage. Oh wow.
- 37:20OK. I know sometimes montages will
- 37:23save the bad movie for you. Yeah, sometimes, but not in this
- 37:27case. OK, so Monica is gonna be the
- 37:30bait. They have their plan and the
- 37:35demon is approaching. I knew exactly what this plan
- 37:41was gonna be. When it started, yeah, we hear
- 37:43talking and the pinata approaches the talking figure
- 37:47and it's the walkie-talkie that's like set up in like a
- 37:51mound of clothing. It's the dialogue too coming.
- 37:53From she's just. She's Oh, my God, I hope the
- 37:56demon isn't gonna get me. Oh.
- 37:58Yeah. So anyway, I'm single.
- 38:00Yeah, I'm like, I have a hard time finding a job.
- 38:04She's just like, chattering, but she's also got to be close
- 38:07enough nearby that like, her actual voice can be heard too.
- 38:10It's. Partially confusing.
- 38:12It's We're playing by scream rolls.
- 38:13Here. Yeah, that's true.
- 38:14That's true. So.
- 38:17It goes over there and it whacks the head.
- 38:20Turns out the head's a watermelon.
- 38:22And this is probably one of the silliest shots for me is Kyle
- 38:26swinging in on a rope. And you can tell they slowed it
- 38:32down, but the footage, he was swinging like really slow.
- 38:35It was like a really, it was gonna be really underwhelming if
- 38:38we saw that thing play out in real time.
- 38:40But it kicks the demon and. The demon is in a bag and it's
- 38:45lit on fire, Mandy style. But.
- 38:49Sorry. The swinging came.
- 38:51Yeah, in fact, I'm sorry. Well, cuz the bag, it's lit on
- 38:54fire and they're like cool, this is great, except the bag burns
- 38:57before the pinata burns. So the demon falls on Monica and
- 39:02that's when Kyle swings in yes. And he fights the pinata.
- 39:06And then Tina goes into the tent and she makes a Molotov
- 39:11cocktail, except instead of throwing it, she handcuffs it to
- 39:14the back of the demon. I like how yeah, she just like,
- 39:18I wasn't sure what happened, but it looked like she just went
- 39:20over there and booped his head and.
- 39:22Went. Away and then the demon's like
- 39:24I'm powerless. Just like man, I can't.
- 39:26I can. Boop just, yeah, just like when
- 39:27we boop Talia and she's like, how dare.
- 39:31You. It's like whenever we take the
- 39:32drinks and put it on Scout's head too.
- 39:34Yeah, at. The same time.
- 39:35Like this is my wife now. Yeah, so the three of them
- 39:38escape, and then we cut to campus security plus real
- 39:43detectives on the on the beach. And this is so bad.
- 39:47It's just them doing like an, like, they're questioning them
- 39:50or like, OK, you guys aren't going to tell us what happened,
- 39:53are you? And then they just look at each
- 39:54other and say nothing. And then it cuts to credits.
- 39:57The ending is so fucking bad in that the goddamn explosion over
- 40:01that right there. That explosion was absurd, by
- 40:03the way. Like they had like TNT stuffed
- 40:05inside that pinot. Yeah.
- 40:08But man, oh, and then we see all of like those souls, just like
- 40:11go out of it. Yeah.
- 40:13Oh my God, if you like cheesy effects, definitely watch this
- 40:17movie. It's honestly, I'm gonna keep it
- 40:20at a 5.5 because I don't think it's terrible.
- 40:22It's not bad honestly. Yeah, I'm keeping it at A5 also.
- 40:25What would you change? What's 1 change?
- 40:32I would change how some of the scenes play because like I feel
- 40:35like all of our problems with this was a lot of things just
- 40:39feel the same. Yeah, A.
- 40:40Lot of things happened similarly throughout, everybody has
- 40:43similar fates and nothing really stood apart.
- 40:47So I would make more unique set pieces or scenes for each
- 40:54individual character. This make.
- 40:55Them stand. Apart yeah, this is where
- 40:58spoofing stereotypes comes in handy because you know what the
- 41:02characters are meant to be yeah, you know what I mean like cuz
- 41:05you're like OK, well this is the this type of person yeah yeah
- 41:10like you get it a little bit cuz you get like the one drop guy.
- 41:13And you get the Stoner. Yeah, but like you, they needed
- 41:17to play into it more. Yeah, they really did.
- 41:20They they didn't really let the characters be.
- 41:24Who did you relate to, man? I'm gonna relate to Bob Bill,
- 41:34because, you know, I'm not afraid to admit that I'd
- 41:38probably make a dumb mistake. Like get a small twig to bash a
- 41:44pinata with you. Know you know, I can see you
- 41:46doing that. Actually, that's in my lane
- 41:48right there. Yeah, that happens.
- 41:49Yeah, that's like the time, but instead of using a flashlight
- 41:52when the power went out, you lit a single match.
- 41:55Yeah. I am not the brightest.
- 41:59People, you struggle under pressure.
- 42:01Yeah, I do. Yeah, I don't think well on my
- 42:03feet. I guess I probably relate to
- 42:10Lisa cuz I'm bad at names and I always need to stop to pee.
- 42:14OK, there we go. That's.
- 42:16Good. What was Scout's favorite part
- 42:19of the movie? Man, that's tough.
- 42:23Scout's favorite part was probably the part where she like
- 42:24pooped the head because it reminded her of getting a drink
- 42:26put on her head. Scout's favorite part was
- 42:30obviously hanging out over the fire.
- 42:32I almost said that. Would you have accepted that if
- 42:35I said that, or did you have another one?
- 42:37I always have an alternative one.
- 42:40You're never allowed to win this game.
- 42:42I have one. One time, you.
- 42:43One time. One time I think it was, yeah.
- 42:46The very first to be or not. I think.
- 42:50OK. Yeah, so dream sequel.
- 42:55Oh man. Well, I think obviously somebody
- 43:06like, it's a future research island, right?
- 43:10So they're going to come over there and they're going to find
- 43:12like these fragments of this ancient pinata, and they're
- 43:15going to piece it back together. Oh, I like that.
- 43:19Yeah. And then they accidentally, I
- 43:22don't know, like. It's I like that they put it
- 43:25together. It steals the researchers souls.
- 43:28So the researchers are acting kind of strange.
- 43:32They're doing. Ethical research, yeah.
- 43:35And. What a nerdy sequel for us.
- 43:38What a sequestel, Yeah, for us to come up with.
- 43:40It's one of those ones where it's like, good for the killer.
- 43:43Because. You're actually rooting for it
- 43:45because it's just killing a bunch of bad people.
- 43:47OK. Yeah, All right.
- 43:50I've got two reviews, OK as we do for two of you or not to be.
- 43:58I've got a +1 and a -1. The ratings aren't like crazy
- 44:05like on either end, so I will go with the slightly higher one
- 44:10because I think that's where we tend to be at.
- 44:12OK first. So 6 out of 10.
- 44:15Surprisingly entertaining. I'd write the copy of this 2002
- 44:18horror movie that I found was titled Demon Island when the
- 44:21movie's actual title is Survival Island.
- 44:23Oh well. God, they need to read more on
- 44:26the Wikipedia. When I sat down to watch
- 44:28Survival Island here in 2023, I remember having watched Survival
- 44:32Island once before. Though I have to admit I hadn't
- 44:34entirely forgotten about the movie.
- 44:36So it's actually nice to sit down and watch it once again,
- 44:39especially since it actually is an OK movie.
- 44:41Sure, this is not a milestone in horror cinema nor even remotely
- 44:45close, but Survival Island actually makes for a good old
- 44:48fashioned stocked by a demonic entity movie.
- 44:51The acting performances in Survival Island were fair enough
- 44:54and they actually had a handful of familiar talents on the cast
- 44:57list with the likes of Nicholas Brendan, Jamie Presley and
- 44:59Garrett Wang. And it was a nice thing with the
- 45:01voice of Joaquim de Almeida as the narrator.
- 45:07Visually, I have to say that Survival Island was actually
- 45:09good. I like the design of the demon
- 45:11clay idol or pinata if you will. The design was interesting and
- 45:14it was a nicely and it was a nicely articulate which helped
- 45:19me the and to see the life on the screen.
- 45:22The constant screaming and loud unearthly noises that assaulted
- 45:24the audience whenever you saw the demon clay idol on the
- 45:27screen grew very annoying very fast.
- 45:28Trust me on that one. Yeah, that was a weird, weird
- 45:31choice. Sure, Survival Island is not an
- 45:33outstanding horror experience, but is actually watchable enough
- 45:36for what it turned out to be. Take it for what it is and just
- 45:39lean back, munch on the snacks and watch the movie.
- 45:42I can't really argue against that review.
- 45:44I kind of mirrors a lot of my feelings towards this movie.
- 45:47Yeah, it's not groundbreaking, but it's fun.
- 45:49Yeah, exactly. I don't think it tries to be
- 45:51either. I really, I really don't think
- 45:53this movie tried to be like a serious horror movie.
- 45:55I think if it tried to be a little less serious, like
- 45:57playing into the like Greek life stereotypes a little bit more,
- 46:01it could be. Yeah, it almost felt like trauma
- 46:04light. Yeah, like it's not quite all
- 46:07the way there. Yeah, 4 out of 10.
- 46:10OK, what? OK how I say how did the pinata
- 46:14know to destroy the modern boats that look nothing like the
- 46:16kayaks from its own time? And why, since it had the bear
- 46:19paw, does it need to beat everything with a stick?
- 46:21And what in its original explains the whole hanging body
- 46:24parts on a tree? Why the hell, after deciding in
- 46:27safety and numbers for perhaps the first time in horror movie
- 46:29history, do these idiots leave Doug to get the rock out of his
- 46:32shoe? And why does it take so damn
- 46:33long to get it out? Why in God's name did no one
- 46:36bring his cell phone with international access with them?
- 46:39Instead they have to count on send one sending a boat soon.
- 46:42I won't say how they killed it, but I will wonder until my dying
- 46:45day why that should have worked. And you know, claymation boy
- 46:48looks so much better than CGI boy.
- 46:51The only interesting CGI effect was the black smoke that chased
- 46:54I'm Nick's girlfriend. On the other hand, the
- 46:57cinematography in general is not bad, and the island does have
- 46:59that foggy, eerie look at it sometimes.
- 47:02And on the upside, Nicholas is some nice eye candy.
- 47:05Lastly, I really hate incredible coincidence movies too, but I
- 47:08would have felt better if we had learned that Nick was a Mexican
- 47:10history major or totemic magic buff or the descendant of the
- 47:14tribe that created this thing, because that legend seemed
- 47:16awfully obscure for someone to just hear.
- 47:18I am assuming based on this movie that Brendan is looking to
- 47:21earn his chops as a producer from the bottom up.
- 47:23And God knows I've seen worse, as has any fan of Mystery
- 47:26Science Theater 3000. And he is one of those actors
- 47:29who just likes to act in anything.
- 47:30Damn. This person really thought too
- 47:34much on this movie I think. But you know what?
- 47:37Those are all legitimate questions.
- 47:39I mean, they are, yeah. But I don't think this movie is
- 47:44serious enough for you to take it that seriously.
- 47:47You know what I mean? It didn't take itself that
- 47:50seriously. So you should probably not take
- 47:52it seriously yourself. I think, I think it took itself
- 47:56halfway seriously. I think it needed to lean hard
- 47:59one way or the other. Yeah, I needed to pick a lean.
- 48:01Yeah. And I think it was closer to
- 48:03goofy and I think it should have just embraced the goofiness.
- 48:06Yeah, I agree with that. It would have been better off
- 48:09OK. OK.
- 48:11Well, I guess this brings us to the titular question.
- 48:14To be or not to be? What do you say, Jesse?
- 48:17Oh I'd absolutely watch this again.
- 48:19You'd recommend it to other? People I would OK.
- 48:21We recommended it to our friends last night.
- 48:23We did, didn't we? Yeah, like.
- 48:26Sub Jason, I hope you watched it.
- 48:29I hope everybody. Else watches it.
- 48:31Yeah, well, as always, like draw your own conclusions for
- 48:35yourself. Take the time, experience the
- 48:37movie as you wish to experience it.
- 48:40I would not be mad about like having this casually playing
- 48:45like I I would drink and like play games with friends with
- 48:49this on in the background this. Is like when we went over to
- 48:51hang out with them and Joe was like, hey, I'm gonna throw it on
- 48:55Octa games. They're like Joe, No.
- 48:56No, this is better than that. Experience you can feel free to
- 49:00throw it on Demon Island next time.
- 49:03And I feel like we'll all have like.
- 49:05A fun time, yeah. We would have moments where we
- 49:07would get distracted watching that.
- 49:08Yeah, I think so. Yeah, I think so.
- 49:10Yeah. OK, Well, then, all right.
- 49:12Hey, we did. We did.
- 49:13This is a really short one, but this movie really didn't have a.
- 49:16Lot. Yeah, there wasn't a lot to say
- 49:18about it, so. It it all just bleeds together
- 49:21really. It runs together.
- 49:23But definitely check it out if you you know, you can.
- 49:28We recommend it. All right, so we are gonna get
- 49:34into recording our Texas Chainsaw Massacre too.
- 49:36Yayo. Be on the lookout for our
- 49:40schedule coming out for April since we're at the end of the
- 49:43month now it. Should be out around Tuesday or
- 49:45Wednesday, the beginning of the month.
- 49:48It'll be a double chainsaw, April.
- 49:51Yeah, we got to make up for last month.
- 49:53Yeah, yeah. So that's what that's what our
- 49:55plan is. We got some fun stuff going on.
- 49:59I think it's gonna be an interesting month.
- 50:00And then obviously we know what the next two months will be
- 50:04after April. We got prom month and pragmat.
- 50:06Yeah, so we got themes coming back.
