- 0:00Speaker 1: And we're back. We're back for another episode.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Welcome to episode 202, or just episode two, as you
- 0:09Speaker 2: may know it. But here in the biz, for those
- 0:11Speaker 2: of you who don't know, they put the season first
- 0:15Speaker 2: and then the number. So this would be 202.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Of round two of Scrubs.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Of the revival of the television show Scrubs. Sarah Chalk
- 0:23Speaker 2: is back. Thunderous applause, Joelle, for Sarah Chalk.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Thanks for having me again. Should we take a moment
- 0:29Speaker 3: to acknowledge how little technological difficulties I had getting on
- 0:33Speaker 3: today onto the podcast?
- 0:35Speaker 1: Because you didn't have to do anything.
- 0:37Speaker 3: That's not true.
- 0:39Speaker 1: And you had a hard time. And you had a
- 0:41Speaker 1: hard time.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, that's true.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Not only could you not put your earpiece in, but
- 0:47Speaker 2: it's in wrong. I can see the wire coming down
- 0:49Speaker 2: to your shoulder. You've got to be more of a
- 0:50Speaker 2: TV anchor and hide that shit.
- 0:52Speaker 3: And we don't need to let everybody else know this,
- 0:54Speaker 3: so we won't tell them, but there are two of them,
- 0:55Speaker 3: and I did have to ask Todd which one.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:57Speaker 3: To put on my ear.
- 0:58Speaker 2: So put that behind yourself, see, now, and then put
- 0:59Speaker 2: your hair over it like you did last time.
- 1:01Speaker 3: And then it pretends that nobody at home knows that
- 1:03Speaker 3: we're wearing earpieces.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I was saying before we started, everybody, that I always
- 1:06Speaker 2: think it's so cool when the musicians, they get frustrated
- 1:09Speaker 2: and they have to pull out their in-ear. And I
- 1:11Speaker 2: just thought that was... That was always so cool. I've
- 1:14Speaker 2: always wanted to be a musician who could get frustrated
- 1:16Speaker 2: and pull out my in-ear because I just, fuck it,
- 1:18Speaker 2: I'll do it without the in-ear.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Because you want to feel the notes?
- 1:21Speaker 2: You know what? No, the mix is wrong. And they
- 1:24Speaker 2: keep playing, but they're mad. Like, I always dreamed of
- 1:27Speaker 2: being able to do that. And now that I'm on
- 1:28Speaker 2: a podcast with an in-ear, I can do that.
- 1:30Speaker 3: So that's what it's called? It's called an in-ear?
- 1:31Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Because it goes in your ear?
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah, why do you think it's called that, Sarah?
- 1:35Speaker 3: Sarah.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Sarah, come up with some reasons why it might be
- 1:37Speaker 2: called an in-ear.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Can you tell me the origin of in-ear?
- 1:42Speaker 1: Google it.
- 1:43Speaker 2: She said Google it. I'm out of here.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I'm out of here.
- 1:47Speaker 2: She said she's going to Google it. She said she's
- 1:49Speaker 2: going to Google it. Sorry, didn't it feel cool to
- 1:51Speaker 2: be able to rip out your in-ear?
- 1:52Speaker 3: It just feels good wearing an in-ear because as you
- 1:54Speaker 3: guys know, I wish I was a singer and they
- 1:55Speaker 3: wear in-ears.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Do you think singers sometimes do that just because they
- 1:58Speaker 2: just think it looks cool? Or are they really mad
- 2:01Speaker 2: about their makeup?
- 2:02Speaker 1: I think they're really mad.
- 2:03Speaker 5: No, I think they're trying to be dramatic like, yo,
- 2:05Speaker 5: I'm going to sing for y'all. And it's going to
- 2:07Speaker 5: come from the heart. I don't need to hear what's
- 2:09Speaker 5: coming out. I'm going to give y'all the raw, real
- 2:12Speaker 5: me without correction.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Right. But I think that sometimes singers do it to
- 2:18Speaker 2: be dramatic. And I think it's cool. I fall for
- 2:20Speaker 2: it every time. Like, oh, they just wanted to sing
- 2:22Speaker 2: raw without the in-ear.
- 2:24Speaker 1: When they do that shit, I'm like, well, why'd you
- 2:26Speaker 1: have it in in the first place?
- 2:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:28Speaker 3: You're right. Because they know. They've used it a lot
- 2:30Speaker 3: of times. So then maybe it is for dramatic effect.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Sorry, that blue shirt makes your eyes very blue. I
- 2:35Speaker 2: wanted to comment right off the bat.
- 2:37Speaker 3: That's another thing we learned from the school of Bill Lawrence. Why?
- 2:40Speaker 2: Because Bill Lawrence always wears piercingly blue shirts because he
- 2:43Speaker 2: has mega blue eyes. That's right.
- 2:46Speaker 1: That's why blue is his color. He also wears blue
- 2:48Speaker 1: suits because of it then.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Well, welcome to 202, everybody. Oh, sorry, Tom. 5, 6, 7, 8.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Here's some stories about a show we made.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And we're back. And we're back. And we're back.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Okay.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Okay, two opens up with Cox and JD walking, and
- 3:34Speaker 2: Cox says, you need to get a mentor, dude. I
- 3:36Speaker 2: didn't just bring you back here to become an administrator.
- 3:38Speaker 2: You got to find an intern. Look at how Elliot
- 3:41Speaker 2: and Turk have found their people.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Yes, and Turk is with Deshana, and they do a
- 3:47Speaker 5: nice little spin, and Elliot is with Tosh, and they spill...
- 3:53Speaker 5: IV bag all over what's that gentleman's name who is
- 3:57Speaker 5: our 90s kids for life yes over 90s kids for
- 4:01Speaker 5: life who has come and hung out on set and
- 4:03Speaker 5: done some great.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Follow guys 90s kids for life on Instagram he has
- 4:08Speaker 2: a really fun Instagram if you're a 90s kid like
- 4:12Speaker 2: I guess we.
- 4:13Speaker 5: Were but also you know he's promoting the show big
- 4:17Speaker 5: time and he got to come and hang out with
- 4:18Speaker 5: us and we truly appreciate he got a cameo he
- 4:22Speaker 5: got a cameo he played.
- 4:24Speaker 3: He played the nurse that we spray fluid all over.
- 4:26Speaker 2: And his acting was good. It was great. He reacted right.
- 4:29Speaker 1: He's in the trailer. Yeah, he made it to the trailer.
- 4:31Speaker 2: We should say that Mimi, the nurse, has been introduced here.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And her first thing is we see she might have
- 4:37Speaker 2: a little crush on Turk because she sniffs him. She
- 4:41Speaker 2: worships Turk. It's really funny.
- 4:42Speaker 3: That spin, by the way, Donald, you and Deshana.
- 4:46Speaker 5: I fell out of my spin. Amanda did not fall
- 4:49Speaker 5: out of her spin, I noticed.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yes, she did not.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Amanda did not. I fell out of my spin because
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'm not used to spinning twice.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Amanda is so talented. Yes, she is. We're going to
- 4:58Speaker 2: get into the suturing here, but it just led me to,
- 5:01Speaker 2: right off the bat, Amanda took the suturing in this
- 5:04Speaker 2: episode of Those Bananas so seriously that we have an
- 5:07Speaker 2: on-set nurse who's our consultant, and she said Amanda has
- 5:11Speaker 2: been practicing so hard that she's legit doing a professional
- 5:16Speaker 2: grade suture on these bananas.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I was not doing it.
- 5:20Speaker 2: And I said, how's Donald doing? And she said, Donald
- 5:23Speaker 2: won't come see me.
- 5:29Speaker 3: But still, in the banana suturing scene, Donald... And the
- 5:32Speaker 3: knot tying, it's very professional.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Well, he's cut together. But I want the audience to
- 5:38Speaker 2: know that whereas Donald is cut together, Amanda is literally
- 5:42Speaker 2: doing professional grade sutures on those bananas. Here, take these bananas.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Here, take these bananas.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Donald and I can't hear the word bananas without going
- 5:54Speaker 2: into Beverly Hills Cop. Well, the buffet is... Okay, you
- 5:58Speaker 2: take these bananas.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Damon Wayans.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Was that Damon Wayans' first part?
- 6:05Speaker 5: I don't know if it was his first part, but
- 6:06Speaker 5: that was one of the funniest things I ever saw
- 6:08Speaker 5: in my life.
- 6:08Speaker 2: You know he just riffed that shit. Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:10Speaker 5: The two of them together. I miss those days, man.
- 6:13Speaker 5: Why can't that happen anymore?
- 6:15Speaker 2: What?
- 6:15Speaker 5: I wish all of the freaking funny people would do
- 6:18Speaker 5: stuff together still.
- 6:19Speaker 1: You know what I mean? It's like, When everybody became funny,
- 6:22Speaker 1: everybody kind of split off. You know what I mean?
- 6:24Speaker 1: It was like, I'm funny here and I'm funny here.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but Damon Wayans was an unknown comic. And all
- 6:29Speaker 2: of a sudden they gave him a cameo and he
- 6:30Speaker 2: stole the scene. You take these bananas.
- 6:33Speaker 5: I wish it was like that for everybody. I wish
- 6:36Speaker 5: if I had the heat and you had the heat,
- 6:39Speaker 5: it's sort of like when Schwarzenegger and Stallone were at
- 6:42Speaker 5: their height, right? Why couldn't they do a movie together
- 6:45Speaker 5: back then? Why did we have to wait for so
- 6:47Speaker 5: long for The Expendables to come out?
- 6:49Speaker 2: Do you watch The Expendables?
- 6:50Speaker 1: I do not.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I didn't think you did. All right. The barbershop thing,
- 6:53Speaker 2: that was a lot of fun.
- 6:54Speaker 3: That is one of the best parts of the episode.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Tell us about the different versions because you had a
- 6:59Speaker 3: couple different.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Songs that were hard to pick between.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Well, we did a version of Mr. Sandman because that
- 7:05Speaker 2: was funny. And it was very funny. They were both
- 7:09Speaker 2: very funny. By the way, it cut out a little
- 7:10Speaker 2: bit the different JDs, what they're supposed to be. There's
- 7:13Speaker 2: like sensitive JD. There's Dr. JD. There's romantic JD. And
- 7:19Speaker 2: then there's dad with a beer belly, Boy Scout leader JD.
- 7:27Speaker 2: So those are all different parts of his personality. And
- 7:32Speaker 2: the sensitive one, Joelle, has puka shells on. I don't
- 7:35Speaker 2: know if you clocked that.
- 7:36Speaker 4: I did notice that. How did we get Boy Scout?
- 7:41Speaker 2: Well, because it got cut, but it was explained like,
- 7:44Speaker 2: I'm a father. I'm involved with a relationship, in a
- 7:49Speaker 2: romantic relationship. I'm a dreamer. I'm a doctor. I would
- 7:56Speaker 2: need like four of me.
- 7:57Speaker 3: That's so good. I'm so happy that you guys went
- 8:05Speaker 3: with what you did for the song.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I mean, it's amazing. Well, when we looked at them both,
- 8:10Speaker 2: we were like, first of all, it was really hard
- 8:11Speaker 2: to get the rights to the Law & Order thing because...
- 8:14Speaker 2: We had to go through so many incarnations to get
- 8:16Speaker 2: the rights to that thing. And then after we got that,
- 8:19Speaker 2: we couldn't figure out who was going to give us
- 8:21Speaker 2: the rights to the sentences before. Like in the criminal
- 8:23Speaker 2: justice system, it made up of those sentences that lead
- 8:26Speaker 2: up to the thing. Like those were owned by Dick Wolf,
- 8:29Speaker 2: I assume, but a separate entity. So like it took
- 8:32Speaker 2: up until the very last second. So we almost had
- 8:34Speaker 2: to switch it back to Mr. Sandman. But when we
- 8:37Speaker 2: looked at them both, they're both funny, but it's just
- 8:39Speaker 2: so random. JD has decided that if he had four
- 8:43Speaker 2: of them, the very first thing they would do would
- 8:46Speaker 2: be a barbershop quartet and do the Law & Order
- 8:49Speaker 2: theme song. I love when the dreamer goes, So good.
- 8:56Speaker 2: By the way, you can't even see the full costume.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I've got like 90s wide jeans on.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Shout out to everyone who worked on that. And Michael Spiller,
- 9:09Speaker 2: who directed this episode, who figured out how to do that,
- 9:11Speaker 2: which it was complicated to do that. And it comes
- 9:14Speaker 2: up later in the tag. And he did a great
- 9:16Speaker 2: job with all that.
- 9:18Speaker 5: We should talk about Dustin because this is the only
- 9:20Speaker 5: time that we're ever going to see this kid, it
- 9:22Speaker 5: feels like.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Well, we don't know, but we don't know that. But
- 9:24Speaker 2: so far, yes.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Dustin is JD and a younger form.
- 9:31Speaker 2: A dreamer. A dreamer. Who has voiceovers in his head.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Who has voiceovers in his head and is in the hospital.
- 9:37Speaker 5: and jd pushes him aside like he's a freaking well
- 9:42Speaker 5: it's like he's in the way well.
- 9:44Speaker 2: It's funny because like if you think about your younger
- 9:46Speaker 2: self right they would probably annoy the fuck out of
- 9:48Speaker 2: you absolutely yeah so he sees someone who's exactly him
- 9:52Speaker 2: and he's like oh get out of here.
- 9:56Speaker 3: And i think J.D. probably sees himself as being a
- 9:58Speaker 3: lot cooler.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Yes.
- 9:59Speaker 3: He's going to hang with John Higgins.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Let's talk about John Higgins, who's so fucking good.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:05Speaker 3: He's the perfect mentee.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Grant Summers.
- 10:08Speaker 3: It's the perfect foil for J.D., Grant Summers. And like
- 10:12Speaker 3: the second John came in and we're at that first
- 10:14Speaker 3: table read, the way he reads every single line, I can't.
- 10:18Speaker 3: If I'm in a scene with him, I can't keep
- 10:19Speaker 3: a straight face. He's killing it.
- 10:22Speaker 2: John is so funny. We're going to have him as
- 10:23Speaker 2: a guest on the podcast. And I got to give
- 10:26Speaker 2: a shout out to Bill Lawrence. This was all him.
- 10:29Speaker 2: He really loves John and believed in John. And I
- 10:33Speaker 2: knew John from SNL, but I hadn't seen his work
- 10:37Speaker 2: as an actor outside of sketch. And he's so funny.
- 10:41Speaker 2: And it was also Bill's idea that You know, we
- 10:45Speaker 2: wanted more conflict for J.D. this season that you introduce
- 10:48Speaker 2: someone that is a needle in his in his a
- 10:52Speaker 2: thorn in his side from underneath them, you know, because,
- 10:55Speaker 2: you know, Cox had J.D. driving him crazy. Well, what
- 11:00Speaker 2: kind of person would drive J.D. crazy? You know? Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 3: That first scene when you just like can't help but
- 11:06Speaker 3: grab his cheek.
- 11:07Speaker 2: He does have great cheeks.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Great cheeks.
- 11:09Speaker 3: It's the writers writing the truth.
- 11:11Speaker 1: He has great cheeks. They're all.
- 11:12Speaker 5: You know, let's talk about all of the interns because
- 11:14Speaker 5: that's something we haven't really talked about.
- 11:17Speaker 2: We have Amanda. We have Layla. We have David. We have.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Jacob and Ava. Jacob and Ava.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:24Speaker 5: Ava's been moved up to series regular on the show,
- 11:29Speaker 5: which is amazing. I really do love her storyline in
- 11:33Speaker 5: this episode, by the way. I think it's... You know,
- 11:36Speaker 5: this is a way to introduce... a regular on the show,
- 11:40Speaker 5: it's great. I personally feel like, because I want her
- 11:45Speaker 5: to find her path and everything like that. And the
- 11:48Speaker 5: fact that she's being C-blocked by her mentor is nuts
- 11:53Speaker 5: to me.
- 11:53Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 11:55Speaker 2: I think, me.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Personally, Ava's character plays so great for pediatrics.
- 12:03Speaker 1: And it would be such a great.
- 12:06Speaker 5: If my kid had somebody that funny, checking up on
- 12:10Speaker 5: them all the time and making them feel comfortable, I
- 12:12Speaker 5: would be ecstatic. Not that they have a bad pediatrician
- 12:16Speaker 5: right now.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Dr.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Sammy, you are amazing.
- 12:19Speaker 2: But Sarah, no phones on set.
- 12:23Speaker 3: It's on airplane mode.
- 12:24Speaker 2: It's a perfect time for me to tell the audience that.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I am in the middle of my story.
- 12:28Speaker 2: By the way, this is the perfect time, Joelle.
- 12:30Speaker 1: In the middle of my story, Joelle.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Joelle, Joelle, I am the policeman on set. We have
- 12:36Speaker 2: a rule. No phones on set. You can keep it
- 12:38Speaker 2: in your chair. You can keep it off the set
- 12:41Speaker 2: we're shooting on. Both these two, constantly on their phones.
- 12:44Speaker 2: That's not true. You are a liar.
- 12:45Speaker 3: That is not true.
- 12:46Speaker 1: You are a liar. That is not Joel. I know
- 12:48Speaker 1: you fucking lying now, bro.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Do not believe a word.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I know you fucking lying now, bro. Sometimes a part
- 12:52Speaker 1: of my role.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Is I'm trying to get more behind the scenes. And
- 12:54Speaker 2: they both go, I have kids. I need to blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I know you fucking lying right now, Brody.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Okay, here's the real Joel. Is that I am trying.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Joel's like the person we're telling. Yeah, Joel.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Drop, drop, drop, drop. I'm trying to take more photos
- 13:09Speaker 3: and get more behind the scenes because we didn't have
- 13:11Speaker 3: enough last season. So sometimes maybe I should buy a
- 13:14Speaker 3: real camera so that you know that I'm not using
- 13:15Speaker 3: it as a telephone.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Anyway, no phones on set.
- 13:19Speaker 5: The interns are amazing, all of them. And I'm really
- 13:22Speaker 5: happy that we're following Tosh in this episode. I think
- 13:25Speaker 5: her storyline is something that a lot of young doctors
- 13:29Speaker 5: are going through when they first start. You know, what
- 13:32Speaker 5: am I going to do? What's my specialty going to be?
- 13:34Speaker 5: You know, you go to college and you pick out
- 13:36Speaker 5: your major and your major, you know, you decide, you know,
- 13:38Speaker 5: I'm going to the medical field. But the medical field
- 13:41Speaker 5: is so broad and there's so many different things you
- 13:45Speaker 5: can become in the medical field, whether it be pediatrician,
- 13:48Speaker 5: a surgeon, you know, ER doctor. Regardless, it's a broad
- 13:55Speaker 5: field and that can be intimidating. You know, when you
- 14:00Speaker 5: become an actor, you're It's two things. You're either going
- 14:03Speaker 5: to be a character actor.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Or a lead. You know what I mean? That's what
- 14:06Speaker 2: it is. Oh, that's not true.
- 14:07Speaker 1: What else is there?
- 14:07Speaker 2: You can get more into comedy, more into drama. I mean,
- 14:10Speaker 2: we became known as comedians. We both like to aspire
- 14:14Speaker 2: to do more drama.
- 14:15Speaker 5: But if you're a character actor, you're labeled as a
- 14:17Speaker 5: character actor for the rest of your career, no matter
- 14:20Speaker 5: what it is you do.
- 14:22Speaker 3: You can be Matthew Rhys, who wins an Emmy for
- 14:23Speaker 3: comedy and drama.
- 14:24Speaker 2: How about Matthew Rhys fucking pulling it out so well?
- 14:27Speaker 4: Wow.
- 14:28Speaker 5: All of those times we hung out back in the day,
- 14:30Speaker 5: I ain't know you was like that, though.
- 14:32Speaker 2: You were friends with Matthew Reese?
- 14:33Speaker 5: Dude, we used to kick it. So back in the day,
- 14:35Speaker 5: he used to hang out with this cat, Dave Annabelle.
- 14:37Speaker 5: I don't know if they're still best friends, but they
- 14:39Speaker 5: did a show together. And Dave and I, we ran
- 14:43Speaker 5: in the same circle at one point. They've since moved.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Him and his wife have since moved to Austin, Texas.
- 14:48Speaker 1: But Matthew Reese used to come and hang out with
- 14:52Speaker 1: Dave every now and then.
- 14:54Speaker 2: This is a long story about how you met Matthew
- 14:57Speaker 2: Rhys once.
- 14:58Speaker 5: I didn't meet him once. I used to hang out
- 14:59Speaker 5: with him. We used to tell jokes to each other.
- 15:01Speaker 5: And I had no clue that this fucker was this talented.
- 15:05Speaker 5: I knew he was married to Carrie, who was on
- 15:07Speaker 5: our show.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Yes, who was on Scrubs as a J.D. Love intro.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I knew that.
- 15:12Speaker 5: But I had no clue that this dude was this talented.
- 15:15Speaker 5: And so after we stopped hanging out, this motherfucker starts
- 15:18Speaker 5: winning award after award after award.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Maybe it's because he stopped hanging out with you. He
- 15:23Speaker 2: was able to focus on his career. Joelle.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Mix and five, y'all.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Mix and five. How great was that guy's run this year, huh?
- 15:31Speaker 3: Incredible.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Mind-blowing. I watched both, obviously. I voted for him for both.
- 15:35Speaker 2: But I never thought he'd win both. But he won both.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Made history.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Made history, Joelle. And he's my friend. And Donald's BFF.
- 15:44Speaker 2: You know, I like that we got into it with
- 15:46Speaker 2: Turk in his glasses because this is a real thing
- 15:48Speaker 2: with Donald. As you can see, he's wearing his glasses.
- 15:50Speaker 2: He's never worn glasses before. When Donald put on glasses
- 15:54Speaker 2: for the first time, he realized how truly blind he
- 15:56Speaker 2: had been for many years.
- 15:58Speaker 5: We learned this last year while we were filming the show, actually.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I didn't know... What you weren't seeing. What I wasn't seeing,
- 16:04Speaker 1: like literally.
- 16:06Speaker 5: And I remember I get the glasses, and at first
- 16:09Speaker 5: they were reading glasses, and the reading glasses changed everything first. Like, oh, snap,
- 16:14Speaker 5: I can see the words on the paper and everything
- 16:15Speaker 5: like that. But then I went to my kid plays basketball,
- 16:19Speaker 5: so I went to one of his games, and I
- 16:21Speaker 5: couldn't see the kids' faces on the court. They looked
- 16:23Speaker 5: like a dream. You know how in your dreams everybody's
- 16:25Speaker 5: face is blurry and everything?
- 16:27Speaker 2: It looked like that.
- 16:29Speaker 5: And I was like, this is not good. And I
- 16:31Speaker 5: put on glasses and I could see everybody's faces really well.
- 16:35Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, shit. I've been blind for
- 16:38Speaker 1: a really long time.
- 16:38Speaker 2: So now when you're doing, why not incorporate them into
- 16:41Speaker 2: your character on Scrubs? They could give you non-reflective special
- 16:46Speaker 2: lenses for them.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I mean, we're trying to do it in this episode,
- 16:49Speaker 1: kind of.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Right. We tease you about it. It's a classic thing
- 16:52Speaker 2: on Scrubs where something happens in your real life and
- 16:54Speaker 2: then it gets worked into the show. So Donald actually
- 16:58Speaker 2: needing glasses has been worked into the show.
- 17:00Speaker 3: My moment that I discovered that I need them, which
- 17:02Speaker 3: I still have to get them, was when Zach and
- 17:04Speaker 3: Donald and I were doing an internal event for ABC
- 17:07Speaker 3: where we were speaking to many, many, many, many, many people.
- 17:10Speaker 3: And the teleprompter was very, very, very, very far away.
- 17:12Speaker 1: We had a lot of wordy things to say.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Oh, shit.
- 17:14Speaker 1: And I looked up and it was really far. I
- 17:16Speaker 1: was like, oh, this is the moment.
- 17:18Speaker 4: Sarah.
- 17:18Speaker 2: When I discovered that I need some glasses.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Wait, that was recently.
- 17:20Speaker 2: You just realized? Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 5: Sarah, that happened to me. I was doing a freaking
- 17:23Speaker 5: award show with Abigail Spencer, your buddy.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Our mutual lover. Yes.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Penny just farted.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Why would you blame it on Penny? Do not blame
- 17:32Speaker 2: your fart.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Let's ask Joelle.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Whose mic picked that up?
- 17:37Speaker 3: Sarah.
- 17:37Speaker 2: This is our studio. Do not blame it on the dog.
- 17:41Speaker 3: If it was me, I would have been like, luckily
- 17:43Speaker 3: nobody noticed.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Penny's farts are not usually audible. They just arrive in
- 17:47Speaker 2: your nose.
- 17:48Speaker 3: I wouldn't be embarrassed if it was me.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I'd be fine with it. Sarah. That's not true. I
- 17:51Speaker 2: would be fine with it. You'd be very embarrassed.
- 17:53Speaker 3: I would be fine with it. You have been twice
- 17:55Speaker 3: on the OG eight-year run, Joelle.
- 17:56Speaker 2: You farted twice on the OG Scrubs. Tell the audience
- 17:58Speaker 2: about that.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I've never known about this.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Go on. You don't want to talk about that? Go on.
- 18:02Speaker 2: In eight and a half years of filming, you remember
- 18:04Speaker 2: farting only twice?
- 18:06Speaker 3: Because maybe, what things do you remember? You remember things
- 18:08Speaker 3: that were traumatic. One of them was in the scene
- 18:09Speaker 3: with Zach, and it was right as we were rolling,
- 18:12Speaker 3: and he was the only one that heard. I was like,
- 18:14Speaker 3: don't say anything. You don't have to say anything. You
- 18:16Speaker 3: don't have to say anything. He makes such a meal
- 18:18Speaker 3: of it and announces it, and then they play it
- 18:20Speaker 3: at the gag reel.
- 18:21Speaker 1: It was in the gag reel?
- 18:22Speaker 3: I played it at the wrap party.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Could you hear your fart in the gag reel?
- 18:26Speaker 3: No, you just hear your reaction to.
- 18:28Speaker 2: It, this giant reaction. It would be funny if you
- 18:29Speaker 2: could hear your fart in the gag reel.
- 18:33Speaker 3: No, but like nobody needs to know. And then it
- 18:34Speaker 3: was just amazing that it was like all the heads
- 18:36Speaker 3: of all the networks that were at the wrap party.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Anyways, Penny. So I could see.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Let's get back on topic. I could see.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I could not see the teleprompter that day. And I
- 18:46Speaker 1: was like, I need glasses. That was the first time.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Well, you guys are lucky you made it this old
- 18:50Speaker 2: to not need glasses. Ava, excuse me, Tosh and Jacob
- 18:54Speaker 2: are joking about Harry Potter. Now. I thought this was adorable,
- 18:57Speaker 2: but I don't know anything about Harry Potter, so I
- 18:59Speaker 2: didn't even, like, we were riffing. The writers were helping
- 19:02Speaker 2: them riff all these Harry Potter jokes, and I was
- 19:04Speaker 2: laughing because they were cute together, but I didn't get
- 19:06Speaker 2: any of the Harry Potter jokes.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Hold on. Jacob don't know nothing about Harry Potter. He's British.
- 19:09Speaker 2: No, I didn't know anything about it. And I'm sure
- 19:12Speaker 2: there are British people who don't know anything about Harry Potter.
- 19:14Speaker 2: You think it's like a rule? It's their Star Wars.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Harry Potter is their Star Wars.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Oh, my goodness. They had so many funny alts on that.
- 19:22Speaker 2: There were a lot of alts.
- 19:23Speaker 3: That's what we need for Hulu is the alts of
- 19:24Speaker 3: all the Harry Potter stuff.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Right, but I'm giggling because they were just cute together,
- 19:27Speaker 2: but I'm like, I have no idea. Even when he's like,
- 19:29Speaker 2: Dobby likes you. I have no idea who Dobby is.
- 19:31Speaker 2: You don't know who Dobby is? I've never seen any
- 19:34Speaker 2: of those movies or read any of that stuff. Oh,
- 19:36Speaker 2: you've got to read it. Okay, anyway.
- 19:38Speaker 3: But there were lots of alts, and there were lots
- 19:39Speaker 3: of alts for Jeff and the bike and the quarry.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I laughed out loud every time when, and I'm not
- 19:45Speaker 2: just saying this because I think it may have been
- 19:46Speaker 2: my joke, but it is very funny. You're a boyfriend.
- 19:50Speaker 2: jumped the quarry And they never found his body. They
- 19:53Speaker 2: only found his head because it had a helmet on it.
- 19:58Speaker 2: It makes no sense. The helmet saved his head. The
- 20:02Speaker 2: helmet saved his head, but they never found his body.
- 20:05Speaker 3: That was your line?
- 20:08Speaker 2: That was your joke. That's one of those jokes I
- 20:10Speaker 2: made up because it just made me laugh, but when
- 20:12Speaker 2: you think about it, it makes no sense. He decapitated.
- 20:14Speaker 2: He got decapitated, but where's the body? It's clearly in
- 20:16Speaker 2: the quarry somewhere.
- 20:18Speaker 1: But they never found it.
- 20:18Speaker 2: They never found it. The other version of it was,
- 20:22Speaker 2: They didn't spend a lot of time searching the quarry.
- 20:24Speaker 4: No.
- 20:24Speaker 2: They didn't. Clearly.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Because it's a body.
- 20:26Speaker 2: It's not like an infinite quarry. You can find a body. Yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 1: And it's not a swamp.
- 20:30Speaker 2: It's a quarry. And how did he get decapitated jumping
- 20:34Speaker 2: the quarry? What happened?
- 20:35Speaker 1: Yeah, on the way.
- 20:37Speaker 3: The other old thing was the helmet saved his life,
- 20:39Speaker 3: but it did not save his face.
- 20:45Speaker 2: And then that implication, you left him because you didn't
- 20:47Speaker 2: like his face anymore.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I like it better that he died and that's the
- 20:51Speaker 1: reason why you guys broke up.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I like it better that they just could never find
- 20:55Speaker 2: his body. They gave up searching for his body. But
- 20:57Speaker 2: they were able to find his head because it had
- 20:59Speaker 2: a helmet on.
- 21:00Speaker 1: We know he went down here because here's his head.
- 21:02Speaker 3: So put a helmet on your career, Tom.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Or you can go dark. All right. J.D. is very
- 21:13Speaker 2: upset about the lack of Twinkle in his portrait. That
- 21:17Speaker 2: was such a good scene. Sorry. I'm trying to keep
- 21:20Speaker 2: us on time like a good host.
- 21:21Speaker 1: It's okay. Let's talk about the Twinkle.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Did you laugh at the Twinkle?
- 21:25Speaker 5: I did laugh at the Twinkle because that's something that
- 21:27Speaker 5: I feel like you would do. You would be like, wait,
- 21:29Speaker 5: hold on.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Time out.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Me or J.D.? You too. Oh, my God.
- 21:33Speaker 5: I feel like if somebody took a picture and you
- 21:34Speaker 5: didn't like it, you'd be like, yo, dude, have you
- 21:36Speaker 5: never taken a picture before? I think these are words
- 21:39Speaker 5: that have come out your mouth before.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Imagine someone painted a portrait of you, and it's supposed
- 21:44Speaker 2: to be hung up on the wall of the hospital.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And there was no twinkle.
- 21:46Speaker 2: And there was no twinkle.
- 21:47Speaker 1: And there was no twinkle. No, what would you do
- 21:51Speaker 1: if there was no twinkle? You said, well, I like it.
- 21:54Speaker 1: It is nice.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I had dead eyes. If I had dead eyes.
- 21:57Speaker 1: And then you're doing yourself.
- 22:00Speaker 3: And I love the beat to where you stomp all over.
- 22:03Speaker 2: By the way, JD is going to go do it
- 22:04Speaker 2: in the bathroom mirror with himself. Capture the twinkle. By
- 22:09Speaker 2: the way, I love how many, but now we ended
- 22:11Speaker 2: up with like 25 portraits of me. And I kept
- 22:14Speaker 2: asking Shiva, who's one of our, someone in our AD department,
- 22:17Speaker 2: if she wanted one to take one home. And she said, no,
- 22:20Speaker 2: she said, I really don't want one. And I was like,
- 22:22Speaker 2: come on, Shiva, this would look beautiful in your house.
- 22:24Speaker 2: And she's like, I'll give it to my parents. My
- 22:26Speaker 2: parents hang up anything. I think Shiva's parents have a
- 22:30Speaker 2: portrait of me hanging in their house.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I would love to see a portrait in their house.
- 22:36Speaker 2: All right. So, JD, no twinkle. Love how, oh, Higgins.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I laugh so hard when I introduce John Higgins' character
- 22:47Speaker 2: to Cox. I laugh and I'm like, do you want
- 22:49Speaker 2: to be grandpa, papi, or papap? And Higgins, under his breath, goes,
- 22:54Speaker 2: and he messes the wording up on purpose. It's so funny.
- 22:58Speaker 2: He goes, I'm going to call him Dr. Cox. Or
- 23:01Speaker 2: he goes, I'm just going to call him Dr.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Cox.
- 23:03Speaker 2: I laugh every time he does that.
- 23:04Speaker 5: I laugh at you calling him your grand mentor for
- 23:08Speaker 5: some reason.
- 23:09Speaker 2: As his grand mentor, do you want him to call you?
- 23:10Speaker 1: I don't know why that's funny to me, but that
- 23:13Speaker 1: made me laugh every time.
- 23:14Speaker 3: I also laugh every time in that scene when Higgins
- 23:17Speaker 3: says to Cox, do you ever say just one word
- 23:20Speaker 3: and then stop?
- 23:21Speaker 2: By the way, Johnny C., I think, really is so
- 23:23Speaker 2: in character that he, like, didn't like that. Like, because it's, like,
- 23:26Speaker 2: the first person who's underneath him to, like, speak up
- 23:29Speaker 2: to him.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:30Speaker 2: And I can remember feeling on the day, like, Johnny was, like...
- 23:34Speaker 2: Not that he was being rude to Higgins in any way,
- 23:38Speaker 2: but he was in character certainly not liking that.
- 23:42Speaker 1: That's amazing. Whenever.
- 23:44Speaker 5: Well, I get nervous whenever, and it is a character thing.
- 23:48Speaker 5: I get nervous whenever... Something bad or anything like that
- 23:53Speaker 5: is said to Cox on the show.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I think what it is is that we as actors
- 23:59Speaker 2: are nervous because there's overlap between Cox and Johnny. And
- 24:04Speaker 2: we grew up with him as our mentor and an
- 24:07Speaker 2: intense older figure. So I don't know. We normally have
- 24:11Speaker 2: this response like, oh, shit. Cox slash Johnny isn't going
- 24:14Speaker 2: to like that. Because there's an episode coming up, no spoilers,
- 24:23Speaker 2: where he has to kiss somebody's ass who's being horrible
- 24:26Speaker 2: to him. And Johnny like did not like it.
- 24:30Speaker 5: No, I could tell he did not like it. And
- 24:33Speaker 5: I'm sitting there like, this is where he blows. This
- 24:35Speaker 5: is where he's going.
- 24:36Speaker 2: To blow up. He never does.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Okay.
- 24:41Speaker 4: Okay.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Michael James Scott and his Barry White voice in that
- 24:45Speaker 3: next scene. I could watch a whole show of that.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Let's talk about Michael James Scott.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Let's just talk about Michael James Scott.
- 24:51Speaker 5: Let's just get into it. So Michael James Scott's a
- 24:54Speaker 5: Broadway star. He's been a Broadway star for many a years.
- 24:59Speaker 5: And I did not know this about the man, but
- 25:01Speaker 5: he's one of the original castmates of Book of Mormon.
- 25:05Speaker 5: He was the genie in Aladdin for 10 years.
- 25:07Speaker 2: 10 years. Not 20 years. 20 years. It hasn't been
- 25:11Speaker 2: on 20 years.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Come on. Sarah.
- 25:14Speaker 3: It was like 100 years.
- 25:16Speaker 1: He was a genie for 100 years.
- 25:19Speaker 2: 10 sounds more right.
- 25:20Speaker 1: 10 is right. 10 is correct. He did it for
- 25:22Speaker 1: 10 years on Broadway.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Joelle, could you fact check this?
- 25:25Speaker 1: Yes, I'm on it.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Joelle, can you fact check it? Because we want to
- 25:27Speaker 2: make sure we prove Sarah wrong. But Michael's a wonderful talent.
- 25:31Speaker 2: And man, is he funny. And he's just the best
- 25:33Speaker 2: guy to be around.
- 25:34Speaker 1: He is, man.
- 25:35Speaker 2: There's just his spirit. He comes on a set. He's
- 25:38Speaker 2: so positive. He's so silly. We all just start laughing
- 25:41Speaker 2: the second he's in the room. Yeah.
- 25:43Speaker 5: He's one of the only other male, other than Zach
- 25:47Speaker 5: and my family and stuff like that, that he's only,
- 25:50Speaker 5: he's one of the only people that I think about
- 25:52Speaker 5: outside of work.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I think about Sarah. I think about you, you know
- 25:56Speaker 1: what I mean?
- 25:56Speaker 5: Uh, But Michael James Scott is now one of my
- 25:59Speaker 5: favorite people on this planet.
- 26:01Speaker 2: And we have the funniest, and Michael and Donald and
- 26:03Speaker 2: I have the craziest DM chat going on Instagram.
- 26:07Speaker 3: They won't let me in it.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Sarah's not allowed in it.
- 26:09Speaker 1: You're not allowed.
- 26:09Speaker 3: They won't let me in it.
- 26:10Speaker 4: Wow.
- 26:10Speaker 2: It's a secret club.
- 26:11Speaker 3: No girls allowed.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Gatekeeping.
- 26:14Speaker 5: It's not that there's no girls allowed. It's just that
- 26:16Speaker 5: we formed the group with the three of us.
- 26:18Speaker 2: And also we both like outrageous humor and we don't
- 26:21Speaker 2: think Sarah could handle the memes that are getting flying around.
- 26:25Speaker 1: I disagree with that. Sarah could totally handle it.
- 26:27Speaker 5: I just don't want to expose myself to having that
- 26:30Speaker 5: type of mind.
- 26:30Speaker 1: That's what it boils.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Down to. But the same shit makes me, Donald, and
- 26:37Speaker 2: Michael James Scott laugh. And And so we have a
- 26:40Speaker 2: very funny DM thread going. Yes, Sarah. I call on you.
- 26:47Speaker 3: He has been such an incredible addition. He's one of
- 26:49Speaker 3: those people that, like, makes every day better. He makes
- 26:51Speaker 3: the hair and makeup trailer better. He dances between the
- 26:54Speaker 3: trailer and set. He's, like, constantly... He comes out with
- 26:57Speaker 3: us on all the weekends. He... Always looks good.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Always looks good. His outfits are on point.
- 27:04Speaker 3: His fashion sense is insane.
- 27:06Speaker 2: We go to dinner, Joelle, and we're all just like
- 27:08Speaker 2: in like just like dressed like this. And Michael comes
- 27:11Speaker 2: in a fit.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Hat.
- 27:13Speaker 2: With a big hat and like. He looks like he's
- 27:15Speaker 2: going to an award show.
- 27:16Speaker 3: And like a vintage bag.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Yeah, he walked in one time and looked like a sailor.
- 27:20Speaker 1: I was like, is it a sailor theme?
- 27:21Speaker 2: He was like, yeah.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Michael James Scott and I have been plotting theme nights
- 27:26Speaker 3: for these dinners. We have a very long list.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Really?
- 27:29Speaker 3: Yeah, one of them is Denim and Diamonds.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Okay. Yes. Diamond, diamond.
- 27:35Speaker 3: We have such a list. There's some retro ones.
- 27:37Speaker 2: He's just one of these people. He just lights up
- 27:39Speaker 2: the room. He lights up the room. And he's always funny.
- 27:41Speaker 2: And I'm just so glad he's on our show. I
- 27:43Speaker 2: love him.
- 27:43Speaker 3: He, this past week, made one of my dreams come true.
- 27:46Speaker 3: As we all know, I just like choreographed dance numbers.
- 27:48Speaker 3: And he was like, let's do this TikTok trend. It's
- 27:50Speaker 3: a choreographed dance. And I was like, Michael, just when
- 27:53Speaker 3: I thought... I could not love you more. And then
- 27:56Speaker 3: we've since talked and we've decided to do more of those.
- 27:59Speaker 2: And then he sent out to everyone their part, videos
- 28:03Speaker 2: of their part in the TikTok dance.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Yes, he did. He did all the parts and then
- 28:08Speaker 3: he put it all together on the day of and
- 28:09Speaker 3: he was like, you do this, you're here, you're here.
- 28:12Speaker 3: And we're going to do another one. And Gridley actually
- 28:14Speaker 3: just sent me a new TikTok trend dance that we're
- 28:17Speaker 3: going to, you'll be receiving it shortly.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Okay. I'm ready. All right. Let's get back on point.
- 28:21Speaker 2: I laughed so. Two things really quick. I'm so sorry.
- 28:24Speaker 4: Michael had 4,000 performances across 12 years and multiple global
- 28:29Speaker 4: productions for the genie. And he also had my favorite
- 28:32Speaker 4: line in this episode, which is her gaydar is set
- 28:34Speaker 4: to church.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Yes.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Iconic.
- 28:37Speaker 2: So funny. Her gaydar is set to church. And then Joelle,
- 28:40Speaker 2: how funny when, when Vanessa's like, it's not going to work.
- 28:44Speaker 2: And he goes, Oh, it's going to work, baby. It's
- 28:47Speaker 2: going to work.
- 28:48Speaker 3: And then she says, kiss me on my mouth.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Kiss me on my mouth, you beautiful bald bastard. Amazing.
- 28:54Speaker 2: And then when he goes over to hit on the woman,
- 28:56Speaker 2: I go, easy, don't overstraight.
- 29:00Speaker 1: And then he got his arms up.
- 29:02Speaker 2: And then you cut to him, like, shooting game.
- 29:04Speaker 3: What did he say to her? Hey, Babs, let me holler.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Hey, Babs, let me holler at you for a second.
- 29:10Speaker 2: By the way, Donald was giving him some strut lessons.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I didn't have to give him strut lessons. He hit
- 29:15Speaker 1: that strut. He did it right.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Well, you were joking. You were joking, obviously. But they
- 29:19Speaker 2: were having a funny bit where Donald was like, let
- 29:22Speaker 2: me show you how I strut if I was going
- 29:23Speaker 2: to hit up some woman.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:29Speaker 2: By the way, it is really funny, and as we
- 29:31Speaker 2: get further into the season, the friendship between Turk and
- 29:35Speaker 2: Nurse DuBois is really funny. We just did a... In
- 29:37Speaker 2: this episode we're shooting now, you two together is hilarious.
- 29:41Speaker 2: I'm really enjoying you two together. He makes me.
- 29:43Speaker 1: It's so good. I mean, come on, man. This is
- 29:46Speaker 1: something that we all wanted.
- 29:47Speaker 5: We wanted to make sure that when we came back
- 29:49Speaker 5: that the characters that we introduced were fun and that
- 29:54Speaker 5: we had a great time with them. And Michael, Ava, John... Amanda, Layla, David, Jacob, Vanessa,
- 30:05Speaker 5: all of these guys came to play. And because of that,
- 30:09Speaker 5: it's just been a blast. And, you know, yeah, you're right, man. Mike,
- 30:13Speaker 5: when I'm working with him, I have such a great time.
- 30:17Speaker 5: Because I can sit there and I can watch him
- 30:18Speaker 5: and enjoy his performance. Just like everybody else.
- 30:22Speaker 3: X Mayo last year, and she was too busy to
- 30:24Speaker 3: come back. She was amazing.
- 30:26Speaker 1: She was so funny. X, we miss you.
- 30:27Speaker 2: We love you. We miss you, X. All right, let's
- 30:30Speaker 2: get into... Kayla's amazing. I want to get into... So,
- 30:33Speaker 2: Kiss Me On My Mouth, People About Bastard, and Dylan Overstreet. Oh,
- 30:36Speaker 2: the Flavor Flav.
- 30:38Speaker 4: Yes.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Flavor Flav.
- 30:39Speaker 1: That was awesome.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Okay, we got.
- 30:40Speaker 5: I have a bunch of stories of this day. Because
- 30:44Speaker 5: I've known Flav for.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. We got to tell the story about how
- 30:46Speaker 2: he thought you were Faison Lo. Yes.
- 30:48Speaker 1: I've known Flav. We've hung out with Flav.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Tell him the story.
- 30:51Speaker 1: I'm going to tell him now.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I'm excited. Sorry.
- 30:53Speaker 1: We hung out with him. We've known him. We went to...
- 30:56Speaker 1: We were in Vegas like two years ago for.
- 30:59Speaker 2: T-Mobile.
- 31:00Speaker 1: The T-Mobile race. The race that they had.
- 31:03Speaker 4: F1.
- 31:03Speaker 2: F1 race.
- 31:04Speaker 5: And Flav was there and we hung out with Flav
- 31:05Speaker 5: there and everything like that.
- 31:07Speaker 1: And so.
- 31:08Speaker 5: We write the show. We have him in the show.
- 31:12Speaker 5: And we're like, Flav's going to do it. I'm like,
- 31:14Speaker 5: so excited. And Flav, it gets back to us. Flav's
- 31:18Speaker 5: so excited. But he's really excited to see.
- 31:21Speaker 1: You, Donald. And I was like, what?
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:25Speaker 1: My dream has come true.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Because I don't know if you know this, but Flav
- 31:27Speaker 5: of Flav is one of the, you know, he's one
- 31:29Speaker 5: of the most iconic rappers in the history of rap.
- 31:32Speaker 5: You know, public enemy when I was a kid. was
- 31:36Speaker 5: the shit, you know what I mean? And him and
- 31:38Speaker 5: Chuck D used to do it big. Anyway, I get
- 31:42Speaker 5: to set early, and when I arrive, Kim, who's one
- 31:46Speaker 5: of the ADs at Circus, which is the base camp, says,
- 31:52Speaker 5: somebody's really excited to see you.
- 31:55Speaker 1: And I'm like, who? And she goes, Flava Flav, Donald.
- 31:59Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh, awesome.
- 32:00Speaker 2: And Donald's feeling himself.
- 32:01Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm going to go say what's up to him.
- 32:03Speaker 4: Yes.
- 32:04Speaker 2: And he struts over just like Dubois did in that scene.
- 32:07Speaker 5: I knock on the trailer door and I hear, come in.
- 32:10Speaker 5: And I come in and I'm like, Flavor, Flav is
- 32:14Speaker 5: the son, public enemy number one.
- 32:18Speaker 1: And he looks up and goes, who are you? And
- 32:21Speaker 1: I go, oh, my name is Donald. He goes, Donald,
- 32:26Speaker 1: Donald what? And I said, Donald Faison. He goes, Faison.
- 32:30Speaker 1: They told me Faison Love was going to be in
- 32:32Speaker 1: this show. No, that's not what he says. He goes, see, man,
- 32:39Speaker 1: they told me Donald. No, he goes, what's your name?
- 32:42Speaker 1: And I go, Donald.
- 32:44Speaker 5: And he goes, see, man, they told me Donald Faison
- 32:48Speaker 5: was going to be in the show. And I go, Flav,
- 32:52Speaker 5: I'm Donald Faison. And he goes, no, man, you know,
- 32:56Speaker 5: the big Faison, the big Donald Faison. I'm talking about Faison,
- 33:00Speaker 5: big Donald Faison. I'm like, Faison love? He goes, yes,
- 33:04Speaker 5: Faison love.
- 33:05Speaker 2: That's why he came to do the show, because he
- 33:10Speaker 2: wanted to hang out with Faison love.
- 33:14Speaker 1: And this is the time Faison Love was in jail.
- 33:16Speaker 5: I'm like, that motherfucker's in jail right now.
- 33:21Speaker 2: He's not available.
- 33:23Speaker 1: He's not tech available.
- 33:24Speaker 2: He's not tech available. So if you're going to do
- 33:26Speaker 2: a show with a Faison, it's got to be this one.
- 33:27Speaker 1: I'm the only one available right now.
- 33:30Speaker 2: But then he begrudgingly came to work on set.
- 33:33Speaker 1: He came to work on set.
- 33:34Speaker 2: But then I think someone had spoken to him.
- 33:36Speaker 5: No, he saw me in the green scrubs. He goes,
- 33:38Speaker 5: that's you. That's Donald Faison.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 33:41Speaker 1: And I was like, okay, whatever.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Your line reading is let me guess my father time
- 33:47Speaker 3: is flavor flame is so good thank.
- 33:49Speaker 5: You well flavor flame is in all honesty you know
- 33:54Speaker 5: one of the only people that i know that wore
- 33:56Speaker 5: a clock his whole career and the reason why is
- 33:59Speaker 5: to tell everybody he knows what time it is that's
- 34:01Speaker 5: the reason behind it yeah it's and it's a it's
- 34:04Speaker 5: a term like i know what time it is meaning
- 34:06Speaker 5: i'm it I'm not blind to all of the bullshit
- 34:09Speaker 5: that's out there.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I know what time it is.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Right. And that was the reason he started doing it.
- 34:14Speaker 2: The clock, yeah. All right.
- 34:15Speaker 3: And then J.D. is saying, it's not. And he is
- 34:18Speaker 3: definitely not wearing a clock.
- 34:20Speaker 2: It was an older white gentleman not wearing a clock.
- 34:24Speaker 2: All right. Getting on to Dubois. Now, P.F. Chang's, we learn,
- 34:28Speaker 2: is the horniest restaurant in town. Thank you.
- 34:32Speaker 1: But why did Dubois want to go to P.F. Chang's
- 34:34Speaker 1: in the first? So that's why he wanted to go
- 34:36Speaker 1: there in the first episode.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Well, in episode one, we learned that he likes it.
- 34:39Speaker 2: And if you get a gift certificate for telling on
- 34:41Speaker 2: the kids, hooking up, he's going to turn them in
- 34:44Speaker 2: if he gets a P.F.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Chang's.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Now, I imagine Barbara says, do you want to go
- 34:48Speaker 2: to dinner? And he's trying to help out J.D. So
- 34:51Speaker 2: he's like, yeah. If it's P.F. Chang's.
- 34:54Speaker 1: But it's the horniest place in town.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Because he's going to do what needs to be done.
- 34:57Speaker 1: That's what J.D.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Says.
- 35:00Speaker 2: By the way, that's so funny. When Grant goes, whatever,
- 35:06Speaker 2: I forget what Grant says, but J.D. goes, he'll do
- 35:09Speaker 2: what needs to be done. To try and get across,
- 35:12Speaker 2: he'll do what needs to be done.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Meaning anything with Barbara.
- 35:16Speaker 2: All right, J.D. really likes those cheeks. He's back trying
- 35:19Speaker 2: to touch them.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Um, we should talk about the bananas.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Bananas was a tricky thing to cut. And I, I,
- 35:26Speaker 2: you know, it was a tricky assignment for our director,
- 35:28Speaker 2: Michael Spiller, because what you have is just two people
- 35:31Speaker 2: suturing bananas and you need to make it look like
- 35:34Speaker 2: a boxing match, Rocky fight. And we, Spiller did his best.
- 35:39Speaker 2: We did our best in editorial. Uh, you know, it's
- 35:42Speaker 2: hard to add action and excitement to what is just
- 35:45Speaker 2: two people doing this.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:47Speaker 2: But I do think that ultimately we did a good job.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Well, I agree with you.
- 35:52Speaker 5: What we shot was not what you guys see, which
- 35:55Speaker 5: is very odd to say because definitely what we shot
- 35:59Speaker 5: you guys are seeing.
- 36:00Speaker 1: But in context, it was something completely different.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Well, here's the problem. In the script, the joke was
- 36:06Speaker 2: that they do it so long that Turk has to
- 36:10Speaker 2: pee because he's a 51-year-old man. Because he's old. And
- 36:14Speaker 2: his bladder runs out. The problem was that in the edit,
- 36:17Speaker 2: we realized, well, Turk's a surgeon. He can obviously go
- 36:20Speaker 2: hours without needing to pee. And so we had all
- 36:25Speaker 2: made a tiny mistake in executing it, and there was
- 36:27Speaker 2: no ticking clock. The thing needed a quick ticking clock
- 36:31Speaker 2: for a race. And so that's why over the head
- 36:34Speaker 2: of the banana shot, we add an ADR line in
- 36:36Speaker 2: post of Donald going, first one to 20 bananas wins. Now,
- 36:39Speaker 2: all of a sudden, you have a ticking clock for
- 36:41Speaker 2: the thing. And it's got a rhythm to it. Before
- 36:45Speaker 2: it didn't have that. So then we ended up having, well,
- 36:47Speaker 2: there's no exit for Turk because he used to have
- 36:49Speaker 2: to pee and he runs out and she won. So
- 36:51Speaker 2: we had to sort of fabricate what you see.
- 36:55Speaker 5: And so because of that and because of all the footage, thankfully,
- 36:58Speaker 5: that Mike Spiller shot, we are able to tell the
- 37:01Speaker 5: story of the banana and how it's and how and
- 37:05Speaker 5: how Deshana is a faster suture than Turk is.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Clearly.
- 37:11Speaker 5: Because of all of the footage. Now, that being said,
- 37:14Speaker 5: it also changed what we shot later on between Turk
- 37:18Speaker 5: and Deshauna because, you know, we shot all of the
- 37:21Speaker 5: stuff about him having to pee and all of that stuff.
- 37:24Speaker 5: And that stuff had to go now because that's no
- 37:26Speaker 5: longer in the story. And it changes the editing and
- 37:29Speaker 5: it makes, this is one of those things where it's like,
- 37:32Speaker 5: even after the show is done, the show's not done
- 37:36Speaker 5: until it's finally, until the final edit. Because the story
- 37:40Speaker 5: can still change somewhere in that.
- 37:43Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 37:44Speaker 5: And to be someone who can... I would never have
- 37:48Speaker 5: been able to see that. I would have never been
- 37:50Speaker 5: able to see, okay, well, I would have just cut
- 37:52Speaker 5: the whole banana shit completely but you guys found a
- 37:55Speaker 5: way to there was.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Talk of that but that would have required a reshoot
- 37:58Speaker 2: and uh we were trying because our schedule's so crazy
- 38:01Speaker 2: we were like how can we salvage this without reshooting
- 38:05Speaker 2: anything it was still interesting it's interesting for fans to
- 38:08Speaker 2: know doctors really do do that they do practice on
- 38:10Speaker 2: bananas um um you know obviously it's a comedy so
- 38:15Speaker 2: having a race between two people is a sort of
- 38:17Speaker 2: a comedic thing but i think the concept was cool
- 38:20Speaker 2: We just didn't, in the script, we didn't realize without
- 38:24Speaker 2: this having a quick race to it, it's going to
- 38:28Speaker 2: be too slow. And so we had to sort of
- 38:29Speaker 2: fabricate that. And then, of course, it affected your lines later.
- 38:33Speaker 5: It affected a lot of the storyline, but I still
- 38:36Speaker 5: think the story is told, and.
- 38:38Speaker 1: That's what's the most important when we watch these shows.
- 38:41Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 38:42Speaker 5: Like, the last thing you want is for, at least
- 38:46Speaker 5: for me, to be like, where's the connection at? why
- 38:48Speaker 5: aren't these scenes connecting? Why isn't this making sense? And
- 38:54Speaker 5: that was my worry at first when you were like,
- 38:57Speaker 5: we're going to have to change the banana thing. I'm like, wait,
- 38:59Speaker 5: the banana thing runs through the whole storyline. How are
- 39:04Speaker 5: you going to, the connective tissue is going to break
- 39:06Speaker 5: you're not doing was.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Um obviously adding some loop lines but then we connected
- 39:10Speaker 2: the two different scenes you have with dashana into one
- 39:12Speaker 2: scene and that was bill's idea and i think it
- 39:15Speaker 2: really i think it really.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Works it really works it works tremendously.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Actually it was magic it was amazing bill goes wait
- 39:21Speaker 2: a minute and those two different scenes are they on
- 39:24Speaker 2: the same side of each other in the hallway and
- 39:26Speaker 2: i'm like yeah he goes okay good i got an
- 39:28Speaker 2: idea and we put them together amazing Amazing.
- 39:30Speaker 5: And so then let's cut to the whole thing with
- 39:33Speaker 5: Elliot and Tosh.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Before we do, though, shout out to Kayla. When you
- 39:38Speaker 3: tell her to play the music and she starts, like,
- 39:40Speaker 3: doing the final countdown. And you're like, from my phone.
- 39:46Speaker 3: I loved her in that.
- 39:47Speaker 2: She's very funny. She's very welcome.
- 39:48Speaker 1: She's so funny.
- 39:49Speaker 2: We didn't mention Kayla as a new addition to the team. Yes.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Nixon 5. Such a good new addition. Why are you
- 39:54Speaker 2: saying Nixon 5 all the time?
- 39:55Speaker 1: Because every time you say team, all I can think
- 39:57Speaker 1: of is Nixon 5. But it's over.
- 39:58Speaker 2: You won already.
- 39:59Speaker 5: Yeah, we're going to end on Nixon 5. Are you
- 40:01Speaker 5: going to win again? It's Nixon 5 until next season.
- 40:03Speaker 4: Okay.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 40:05Speaker 1: J.D.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Learned everything he can know about jazz from watching La
- 40:09Speaker 2: La Land. Which I love. This is so good.
- 40:11Speaker 3: That was my favorite part.
- 40:12Speaker 4: I was going to say, taken from real life.
- 40:14Speaker 1: When he's doing the whole.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Okay, but we.
- 40:16Speaker 1: I still want to talk about Tasha now.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Oh, sorry, sorry.
- 40:19Speaker 5: But when he does do the La La Land reference,
- 40:21Speaker 5: and he's like, I'm going to throw some jazz at you,
- 40:23Speaker 5: and you throw it back.
- 40:24Speaker 1: And this is the part where you say.
- 40:26Speaker 5: I'm like, this is the best part of the show
- 40:30Speaker 5: for me right now.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Really?
- 40:32Speaker 1: Absolutely, man. You know I love La La Land.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Oh, I thought you were saying because of me and
- 40:38Speaker 2: Higgins being silly.
- 40:39Speaker 5: You guys are funny and great and everything like that,
- 40:41Speaker 5: but when you invoke La La Land in my heart
- 40:43Speaker 5: and spirit.
- 40:44Speaker 1: So good.
- 40:47Speaker 2: That was funny. Yeah, that wasn't in the script either,
- 40:51Speaker 2: but I thought it would be funny if If J.D.
- 40:54Speaker 2: really didn't know much about jazz other than what he'd
- 40:57Speaker 2: learned from watching La La Land. I love that.
- 40:59Speaker 3: I love to see when you're like, no, we're spitballing here,
- 41:01Speaker 3: just getting loose.
- 41:02Speaker 1: It's like jazz.
- 41:03Speaker 2: It's like jazz. Shooting the S word.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Shooting the S word. So let's, all right, so just
- 41:15Speaker 1: so we're clear.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Ava can ride the unicycle. That's why we brought it in.
- 41:19Speaker 3: That's not easy to do.
- 41:21Speaker 2: She's very good at it. We like to pull things
- 41:23Speaker 2: from actors' real life. Yes.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Any talents or skills any actors have, they tell the writers,
- 41:27Speaker 3: and then it becomes in an episode.
- 41:29Speaker 2: And Ava told us that she could ride the unicycle.
- 41:32Speaker 5: I was hoping that would be like one of those
- 41:33Speaker 5: things that you lie about on your resume, like we
- 41:36Speaker 5: all did when we were coming up.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Archery.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Did you lie about archery?
- 41:41Speaker 1: I did archery.
- 41:42Speaker 2: You recently revealed to me that you're a good archer.
- 41:44Speaker 1: I was a good archer.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Oh, so what else is on you? What is on
- 41:46Speaker 3: there that's not true?
- 41:48Speaker 5: It was all my camp skills. So all my shit
- 41:51Speaker 5: is real. Swimming, archery, canoeing. I can do all of
- 41:56Speaker 5: that shit because I can't.
- 41:57Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 41:58Speaker 4: Right.
- 41:59Speaker 1: But then there was some fake shit on there like
- 42:01Speaker 1: horseback riding.
- 42:02Speaker 3: No. No.
- 42:03Speaker 1: I can't do that.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Let's talk about Elliot in pediatrics. Yes. Elliot.
- 42:08Speaker 5: Let's talk about not only Elliot in pediatrics, but let's
- 42:12Speaker 5: give a shout out to Tamara.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Yes.
- 42:14Speaker 3: She was great. Tamara was fantastic.
- 42:16Speaker 2: She did a great job.
- 42:17Speaker 1: I'm so excited to see her.
- 42:19Speaker 4: Yes.
- 42:19Speaker 2: She's fantastic.
- 42:19Speaker 5: For those of you who remember Sister, Sister, we have Tamara,
- 42:22Speaker 5: we have Tamara Maury on.
- 42:24Speaker 1: The show and she was.
- 42:25Speaker 2: And you, did you know her before? I did.
- 42:27Speaker 5: I've known her since she was very, very young. Her
- 42:30Speaker 5: and her sister and her brother since they were really young. Um,
- 42:34Speaker 5: and I was really young and we've kind of grown up. They,
- 42:38Speaker 5: they more than me, but they've grown up in, you know,
- 42:41Speaker 5: the Hollywood eye.
- 42:43Speaker 3: She was great and she was so natural and comfortable
- 42:45Speaker 3: and so fun to work with.
- 42:46Speaker 5: Um, She's a real vet. She's been around forever. And
- 42:49Speaker 5: she's had several hats on in this world of television.
- 42:56Speaker 5: She's been a host. She's an Emmy winner. award-winning host.
- 43:01Speaker 5: She's been an actress. She's been a producer. She's, I'm sure,
- 43:05Speaker 5: directed by now. And so it was really cool to
- 43:07Speaker 5: have her on the show.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Well, she fit right in. She's very talented. And she
- 43:11Speaker 2: just thinks Tosh would be perfect for the kids, which
- 43:13Speaker 2: is true. Now, Elliot really doesn't like children other than
- 43:17Speaker 2: her own. This is true of some women I actually
- 43:22Speaker 2: know in real life who shall remain nameless. All right,
- 43:25Speaker 2: who's this? No, I'm just not trying to call anybody out.
- 43:27Speaker 2: But there are a lot of parents, I'm sure, who
- 43:29Speaker 2: are listening, who are like, I really only like my kids.
- 43:32Speaker 3: I remember when a scene was pitching me the story,
- 43:34Speaker 3: and I love, she was like, Elliot's actually, like, scared
- 43:36Speaker 3: of other people's children. Like, she gets legitimately scared walking
- 43:39Speaker 3: into pediatrics, and I love that she thinks it looks
- 43:41Speaker 3: like Satan's Playhouse.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Yeah, well.
- 43:44Speaker 5: I've seen some of the special effects on this thing,
- 43:46Speaker 5: and it will look like Satan's Playhouse by the time
- 43:47Speaker 5: I get there.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Yeah, actually, in the version you just saw, Sarah, that
- 43:50Speaker 2: deer that's on the wallpaper isn't animated yet. It's going
- 43:53Speaker 2: to start as a normal deer, and then it turns
- 43:55Speaker 2: and has its fangs out.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 43:57Speaker 2: That's so good. Yeah, so Elliot really is having a
- 44:00Speaker 2: full trip out when she's in. And then she sees
- 44:03Speaker 2: the little girl who looks like the ring. Yeah.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 44:07Speaker 5: Okay, so now this is something that I like, but
- 44:12Speaker 5: I kind of have a problem with. Why is Elliot
- 44:14Speaker 5: sea-blocking Tosh from finding her path?
- 44:17Speaker 3: I think it's not that she's sea-blocking her.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Well, Tosh explains it later.
- 44:19Speaker 3: I'm giving her a chance to explain.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Oh, you're a teen. You're not like a host?
- 44:22Speaker 1: Come on, bro. Thanks.
- 44:24Speaker 3: I think Elliot thinks it's too late for her. She
- 44:29Speaker 3: doesn't want Tosh to make the same mistakes.
- 44:31Speaker 1: She's like, come on, you'd be so good at this.
- 44:33Speaker 3: I think, you know, obviously endocrinology had been a passion
- 44:36Speaker 3: for Elliot. She's like, oh, my God, Tosh, you'd be
- 44:37Speaker 3: so good at this. And Tosh is the one who
- 44:39Speaker 3: brings it up that she was finding it super interesting. Yes,
- 44:41Speaker 3: go for it now while you still have time. And
- 44:43Speaker 3: I thought that was so sweet that Tosh ends up
- 44:45Speaker 3: being the one that's encouraging Elliot and saying it's not
- 44:47Speaker 3: too late for you.
- 44:48Speaker 5: But it pays dividends later on, fans. This story does continue.
- 44:54Speaker 5: We're setting you guys up right now. I should say
- 44:56Speaker 5: the writers and directors are setting you guys up right now.
- 45:02Speaker 5: All of this stuff comes back later on.
- 45:04Speaker 1: You need to pay attention.
- 45:07Speaker 2: But no spoilers.
- 45:08Speaker 5: And by paying attention, that means going back and watching
- 45:11Speaker 5: the show over and over again on Hulu and watching
- 45:13Speaker 5: our podcast.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Did I tell you?
- 45:14Speaker 5: That was really good.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Did I tell you?
- 45:18Speaker 4: I really love this storyline, you know, for a lot
- 45:20Speaker 4: of reasons. I think professional women are often sort of
- 45:23Speaker 4: pushed into roles.
- 45:24Speaker 1: That are deemed, like, appropriate for women.
- 45:26Speaker 4: Yes.
- 45:26Speaker 3: For example, a lot of female directors are like.
- 45:28Speaker 4: You should go into children's television or you should direct
- 45:30Speaker 4: children's movies.
- 45:31Speaker 1: And they're like, that's not what I came here to do.
- 45:33Speaker 4: Now that there's anything wrong with those professions or making
- 45:36Speaker 4: content for children, it's a beautiful like initiative if you
- 45:39Speaker 4: have that drive within you. But I think the the
- 45:42Speaker 4: default and wanting to protect someone from making default choices
- 45:46Speaker 4: you had to make was great.
- 45:47Speaker 1: But I also really love.
- 45:48Speaker 2: You know.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I'm a lady in her 30s.
- 45:51Speaker 4: And I think a lot of times, you know, women's
- 45:54Speaker 4: stories across genres are sold as like, get married, have
- 45:58Speaker 4: kids and settle down. And like, then your life is over.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Like you've done it, you've achieved. And I think having
- 46:03Speaker 4: spent so much time with Elliot and coming out of
- 46:05Speaker 4: this relationship that we really valued her in, Like, getting
- 46:08Speaker 4: to see her as a full person and, like, what
- 46:10Speaker 4: is beyond the happily ever after.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Like, she has so much life left to live. There's
- 46:14Speaker 1: so much left for her to do.
- 46:15Speaker 4: And I really, I was excited to see, like, oh,
- 46:18Speaker 4: is Elliot going to start a new direction in her career?
- 46:21Speaker 4: We kind of get a tease with it in the...
- 46:23Speaker 4: the Power Rangers sketch from before where she's like, I'm
- 46:25Speaker 4: a female doctor who's accomplished a lot, not.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Had of anything, but done so much.
- 46:30Speaker 1: And you're like, you can kind of.
- 46:31Speaker 4: Sense it, you know, like a Donald saying, like I
- 46:33Speaker 4: really love and have always really loved the way Scrubs is,
- 46:36Speaker 4: you know, it's a weekly show and there's like, you have,
- 46:39Speaker 4: sometimes you have cases of the week, sometimes, you know,
- 46:41Speaker 4: you're falling back into like your main character storylines. But
- 46:45Speaker 4: I do feel like with this season, we're getting a
- 46:47Speaker 4: lot of really good juicy stuff and I'm appreciating everyone, even,
- 46:50Speaker 4: you know, Donald, your storyline, like with your intern, You
- 46:53Speaker 4: need that moment later where you're like, I didn't brag.
- 46:55Speaker 1: I earned the right to brag.
- 46:56Speaker 5: I was like, we have rewatched this show.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Brag and do shit.
- 47:02Speaker 5: This is crazy.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Every fan of the show is like, I call bullshit.
- 47:05Speaker 2: I call bullshit right now. That's so true, Joelle. And
- 47:10Speaker 2: I do, like Donald said, the writers are doing such
- 47:14Speaker 2: a good job of seeding lots of things in these
- 47:16Speaker 2: first two episodes. Even things that were seeded last season.
- 47:20Speaker 2: that are going to come to fruition throughout the course
- 47:23Speaker 2: of this season.
- 47:24Speaker 3: Yeah, Joel, you're right. There's so much juicy stuff. And
- 47:26Speaker 3: there's so much stuff that like, I mean, last season
- 47:29Speaker 3: was nine episodes and it was like finding the show
- 47:32Speaker 3: and what was it going to be? And it's like
- 47:33Speaker 3: Zach always says that it was like R & D.
- 47:36Speaker 3: And like coming in this season and, you know, meeting
- 47:40Speaker 3: with the writers and hearing about all of their ideas,
- 47:42Speaker 3: it was so exciting. And we all have stuff that
- 47:44Speaker 3: we get to do that's so fun. I mean, one
- 47:46Speaker 3: of the things I was personally most excited about was
- 47:49Speaker 3: like something that we missed a little bit in that
- 47:51Speaker 3: first year was like kind of making ourselves really grown up.
- 47:53Speaker 3: And how do you find that line and thread the
- 47:54Speaker 3: needle of like what we were then 25 years ago
- 47:57Speaker 3: and what we can be now. And so we found
- 47:59Speaker 3: opportunities to bring in like parts of that, that we
- 48:02Speaker 3: didn't even a have time to last year, or they
- 48:04Speaker 3: weren't sure if we should like Elliot gets to, you know,
- 48:07Speaker 3: through Scott Foley coming back, like find a lot more
- 48:10Speaker 3: of the spoilers. Oh, spoilers.
- 48:12Speaker 1: That's We know Scott Foley comes back.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Yeah, but she's about to go into his plot point.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Tune in. Tune in next week.
- 48:21Speaker 5: I completely hear what you're saying. I completely hear what
- 48:24Speaker 5: you're saying. There's so much to play with as actors
- 48:27Speaker 5: in this whole situation.
- 48:28Speaker 1: So much.
- 48:31Speaker 5: I don't know if that ever really happens with revivals
- 48:34Speaker 5: because I don't have any examples of revivals that have
- 48:37Speaker 5: made it, but usually after what Happily Ever After... You
- 48:42Speaker 5: imagine everything is great, but to come back and find
- 48:45Speaker 5: these characters are still flawed and, you know.
- 48:48Speaker 3: All right.
- 48:50Speaker 5: Here's a perfect example of what I'm talking about, and
- 48:52Speaker 5: I hate to bring it up, but Star Wars is
- 48:54Speaker 5: a perfect example. When we leave Return of the Jedi,
- 48:58Speaker 5: Luke Skywalker is a freaking Jedi, and he's just saved
- 49:02Speaker 5: the galaxy. And when we return, he shut himself off
- 49:07Speaker 5: from the Force. That ain't realistic for me. I'm sorry, bro, but.
- 49:16Speaker 2: I love it. You just completely undercut it.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Your point where you're like, I love the continuation. No,
- 49:23Speaker 1: I love it.
- 49:23Speaker 5: But for Star Wars, it doesn't work for me. For this,
- 49:28Speaker 5: it's perfect. Because these people aren't Jedi.
- 49:33Speaker 1: And they're not... They're not.
- 49:40Speaker 5: In the words of Star Wars, the special beings of
- 49:44Speaker 5: the galaxy, these people are human. And I think, you know,
- 49:48Speaker 5: if anybody's going to break up, it needs to be
- 49:50Speaker 5: JD and Elliot, because if Turk and Carla broke up,
- 49:55Speaker 5: everybody lose their mind.
- 49:56Speaker 3: There would be an outrage.
- 49:57Speaker 1: There would be a freaking, there would be a war.
- 49:58Speaker 2: Let's circle back to the show. Did I digress? Yeah. No,
- 50:02Speaker 2: you went full Star Wars, but we're back. I really
- 50:06Speaker 2: laughed at me and JD trying to basically make a
- 50:10Speaker 2: booty call with Blake. But I thought when we were,
- 50:16Speaker 2: he's trying to make Grant jealous, and he's like, I
- 50:18Speaker 2: just thought when we were intubating that guy, we really bonded.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Yeah, we had fun, but that's all that was. I'll
- 50:26Speaker 1: tell you something right now. Gridley is freaking good at that, man.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Oh, I got lost in his eyes. Yeah, he's really
- 50:34Speaker 2: good at that. When he's so handsome, when he was
- 50:36Speaker 2: dissing me, I was like, oh, I really genuinely do
- 50:39Speaker 2: feel bad right now. I feel like I was just used. Yeah,
- 50:44Speaker 2: he's so funny.
- 50:44Speaker 5: He's really good at that. There's a bunch of stuff
- 50:47Speaker 5: that these young men and women did when I mean,
- 50:51Speaker 5: they've been living up in Vancouver this whole time. And
- 50:55Speaker 5: there's so many really cool things because they've had to
- 50:57Speaker 5: hang out and bond with each other. I'm very grateful
- 51:00Speaker 5: for the fact that these guys found each other and
- 51:02Speaker 5: they're able to, you know, be friends and they root
- 51:06Speaker 5: for each other. But they did a rap video. They
- 51:09Speaker 5: did a song and a video that is fire. And
- 51:13Speaker 5: you guys might not ever see it.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Yeah, they're not going to release it. We already tried.
- 51:17Speaker 2: It's so funny. They're so talented. It was meant for
- 51:18Speaker 2: the rap part of Joelle.
- 51:19Speaker 3: They're musically so talented.
- 51:20Speaker 2: Yes. All of them. And it's amazing. But they sort
- 51:23Speaker 2: of said some R-rated stuff. And I was like, can't
- 51:26Speaker 2: you guys release that and just bleep it? And they're like,
- 51:28Speaker 2: we're not releasing that. They're not releasing it.
- 51:30Speaker 1: The point is, we know what the internet can do. No,
- 51:33Speaker 1: but the point is, they're so talented. They're so talented.
- 51:34Speaker 5: And they bonded like we bonded when we first started
- 51:38Speaker 5: doing the show.
- 51:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:39Speaker 2: Like, wow.
- 51:39Speaker 5: We went on, we went so many places when we
- 51:43Speaker 5: first started the show and like from Mexico to Brazil
- 51:47Speaker 5: to all. And it created this unity that has lasted
- 51:51Speaker 5: for our whole lives. The whole 25 years I've known
- 51:54Speaker 5: half of my life, I've known these guys.
- 51:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 51:57Speaker 5: And I'm hoping and praying that the things that we've
- 52:00Speaker 5: done with them and the experiences that they've had, will
- 52:04Speaker 5: transcend into their older.
- 52:07Speaker 1: Years and everything.
- 52:08Speaker 5: And they can look on each other for what we
- 52:11Speaker 5: have because we have something that, I'm sorry, I don't
- 52:15Speaker 5: know a lot of people in this industry. I don't
- 52:17Speaker 5: think they have what we have. One, the history that
- 52:21Speaker 5: we have. It's very rare that you have 25 years
- 52:26Speaker 5: of history with someone. That's very rare. And it's very
- 52:29Speaker 5: rare that 15 years after your first run, you get
- 52:33Speaker 5: to come back and all of the history that you've
- 52:35Speaker 5: had in the past is now applied.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Into what you're doing right now.
- 52:40Speaker 5: And I'm hoping, I don't know if they get to
- 52:43Speaker 5: do scrubs, you know, 3.0. I'm hoping they get to
- 52:54Speaker 5: experience somewhat what we've gotten to experience.
- 52:57Speaker 3: I think they will just see like, To your point,
- 52:59Speaker 3: they're not sitting around on their days off. They're like
- 53:02Speaker 3: hanging out and creating more shit together. Even this season,
- 53:04Speaker 3: you know, like they are making more stuff. They're making projects.
- 53:08Speaker 3: They're writing together. It's really cool.
- 53:10Speaker 2: They're besties. All right, let's get back to the show.
- 53:12Speaker 1: This is part of the show.
- 53:13Speaker 2: We're running out of time. Go ahead, Tara.
- 53:14Speaker 3: Before we move on, we have to address one of
- 53:16Speaker 3: the funniest moments, which was Sibby coming up and telling
- 53:19Speaker 3: you that Grant Summers has reported you and say what?
- 53:21Speaker 3: And she's like, Grant Summers has her... You're like, no,
- 53:24Speaker 3: I hear you.
- 53:25Speaker 1: I heard you.
- 53:26Speaker 2: By the way, that is the dumbest joke, and it's
- 53:28Speaker 2: been done as many times, but I'm not ashamed to
- 53:31Speaker 2: tell you I laugh every single time.
- 53:32Speaker 3: I laughed every time she did it, and there's a
- 53:34Speaker 3: shot over you, and I'm in the background, and we
- 53:37Speaker 3: kept having to reshoot it because I wasn't even looking
- 53:39Speaker 3: at her and just her doing it.
- 53:40Speaker 2: I'd be like, I can't. It was so good. I
- 53:43Speaker 2: laugh every time at that joke. How about... Where are
- 53:48Speaker 2: we here?
- 53:48Speaker 4: So....
- 53:50Speaker 2: We're toward the... Yeah, I know. So we did booty call,
- 53:53Speaker 2: Elliot putting her hands up. Oh, I thought this was cute.
- 53:55Speaker 2: And it inspired me at the end. So when Sarah
- 53:58Speaker 2: comes in to talk to Cox, she puts her arms
- 54:00Speaker 2: up like him because she's trying to be his peer. Right. Like, hey,
- 54:02Speaker 2: two peers talking. And then it gave me the idea
- 54:05Speaker 2: when I did the very end that I would do
- 54:07Speaker 2: it too. Like, I'm trying to be on his level.
- 54:10Speaker 2: And I thought that was cute to make that like
- 54:12Speaker 2: a tiny runner that we're both trying to be his peer. Yeah.
- 54:14Speaker 3: And that that's the.
- 54:16Speaker 3: The way that you manifest that is by putting.
- 54:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you do. All I know is when my mentor
- 54:21Speaker 2: was feeling confident and he went like this. That's what
- 54:24Speaker 2: you do.
- 54:25Speaker 5: And this, this brings me to part of how we're,
- 54:29Speaker 5: I guess how we wrap this up. Cox is always
- 54:31Speaker 5: the truth bomb for these guys.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Always. Right.
- 54:36Speaker 5: And we aren't as lucky this season to have John C.
- 54:41Speaker 5: McGinley on every episode of the show. because he has
- 54:45Speaker 5: another show that he's doing and stuff like that.
- 54:46Speaker 2: Called Rooster, which is a very good show. But we
- 54:49Speaker 2: got him as much as we can get him.
- 54:51Speaker 5: And when he's here, I feel like it's so important
- 54:56Speaker 5: for all of the new Scrubs watchers and old Scrubs
- 55:00Speaker 5: watchers to see that he still has an influence on J.D., Elliot,
- 55:04Speaker 5: and Turk's lives. I think, you know, just because your
- 55:09Speaker 5: mentor is no longer.
- 55:12Speaker 2: uh, available.
- 55:13Speaker 5: We could talk about Bill and how that is also
- 55:17Speaker 5: as much as he, he isn't as available as much
- 55:21Speaker 5: as he was or she was back in the day.
- 55:24Speaker 5: They're still there to help guide you in some, in
- 55:26Speaker 5: some way. And I think it's, I think one, we're
- 55:30Speaker 5: lucky to have him on the show, but also the
- 55:32Speaker 5: way we've written him into the show, us trying to
- 55:35Speaker 5: fix him, him still trying to teach us is, you know,
- 55:40Speaker 5: it's very dynamic and, um, And I, as a fan
- 55:46Speaker 5: of the show, I really love the fact that John
- 55:49Speaker 5: still comes back and drops truth bombs on his three mentees.
- 55:54Speaker 2: I thought that was really moving when he gives you
- 55:56Speaker 2: that speed, that monologue. I thought John was just excellent
- 56:00Speaker 2: in that monologue. And it was so beautiful. And then
- 56:04Speaker 2: I had the idea with the three of us walking.
- 56:06Speaker 2: I was like, oh my God, imagine we could find
- 56:08Speaker 2: a shot of the three of us walking from the
- 56:11Speaker 2: OG show. So I had our luckier editor have her
- 56:16Speaker 2: assistant just start scouring early episodes for any shot. And
- 56:20Speaker 2: then they found that shot. And I go, oh, my God,
- 56:23Speaker 2: in John's mind, we should cut back to the way
- 56:25Speaker 2: we looked 25 years ago.
- 56:27Speaker 3: I loved it. I didn't know that was going to
- 56:28Speaker 3: happen until I watched the episode. I love that you
- 56:31Speaker 3: guys did that.
- 56:31Speaker 2: That wasn't in the script. We just found it.
- 56:32Speaker 5: But that's still, it's like parents when they look at
- 56:35Speaker 5: their kids. I see my kid as, you know, babies still.
- 56:40Speaker 1: You see all the ages.
- 56:42Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 56:43Speaker 5: They're like, I'm a fucking teenager now. Or I'm a
- 56:46Speaker 5: freaking adult now. You know what I mean? But I
- 56:49Speaker 5: still look at them and see babies. And that's how
- 56:51Speaker 5: Cox sees Elliot.
- 56:54Speaker 2: And when it cuts back to his eyes and he's
- 56:56Speaker 2: just looking with such pride. Even though he's just said
- 57:00Speaker 2: to JD, like, I wasn't talking to you. And he's
- 57:02Speaker 2: been tough love for Turk. When they're not looking, he
- 57:07Speaker 2: has such pride.
- 57:08Speaker 3: Yes.
- 57:09Speaker 2: And that gave me goosebumps. Like, Johnny's expression... when we're
- 57:13Speaker 2: looking the other way that he has such pride for
- 57:17Speaker 2: what he created.
- 57:18Speaker 3: And let's talk about that page and a half monologue,
- 57:21Speaker 3: which was so incredibly written. And then obviously like unbelievably
- 57:25Speaker 3: executed by Johnny. I could like watching him do that.
- 57:30Speaker 3: Cause he just walks out of the office. I was
- 57:32Speaker 3: like right there on the other side of the wall. He,
- 57:37Speaker 3: it was so moving. But it's also incredible because there's
- 57:40Speaker 3: so many laughs in there. Like when he's like, Turk's like, please, God,
- 57:44Speaker 3: let this be my final test.
- 57:46Speaker 2: And then he's going through it. And he doesn't know
- 57:47Speaker 2: Turk's name.
- 57:48Speaker 3: He doesn't know Turk's last name. He's like, Turk, whatever
- 57:50Speaker 3: your last name, Turk is my last name.
- 57:52Speaker 2: Just like Kelso.
- 57:54Speaker 3: And then that slow push in on Johnny with that
- 57:57Speaker 3: music cue towards the end of his speech.
- 57:59Speaker 1: It's like, it was. And it's also meta, too.
- 58:03Speaker 5: Because when we came into this game, you know, regardless
- 58:07Speaker 5: of how much work we had, None of us had
- 58:09Speaker 5: work like Johnny.
- 58:10Speaker 2: Yeah. He was a mentor. He was a mentor to
- 58:12Speaker 2: us as actors, you know? Yeah.
- 58:14Speaker 5: And so for him to sit there and be like,
- 58:16Speaker 5: now look at this. These guys, the show that we
- 58:19Speaker 5: all became famous on, I'm standing here looking at these
- 58:23Speaker 5: three and they're fucking doing a thing that, you know,
- 58:26Speaker 5: we watched, you know, Bill and his group of of
- 58:31Speaker 5: writers and creators do back in the day. And now
- 58:33Speaker 5: he can look at us and see us do this shit.
- 58:36Speaker 5: And so it's really, it's meta in a lot of
- 58:39Speaker 5: ways too.
- 58:40Speaker 2: And I put Gregory Alanissakoff's song, Time Will Tell, which
- 58:44Speaker 2: is just a really beautiful song.
- 58:46Speaker 1: It's so beautiful.
- 58:47Speaker 2: I really, we went through lots of incarnations of music there,
- 58:50Speaker 2: but that's the one, you know, my classic thing with
- 58:52Speaker 2: placing music is when do you get goosebumps? And then
- 58:56Speaker 2: you know you got something good. And that song at
- 58:58Speaker 2: that moment gives me goosebumps.
- 59:00Speaker 3: It's our second Gregory Allen is the Cough on Scrubs.
- 59:02Speaker 1: I know.
- 59:02Speaker 2: We used him last season.
- 59:05Speaker 1: On Amsterdam?
- 59:06Speaker 2: Amsterdam, yeah. I love him, and he just feels very scrubsy. Totally.
- 59:11Speaker 2: And then we have this end scene with Cox and Dubois.
- 59:15Speaker 2: We shot that actually at Magic Hour. The light is
- 59:17Speaker 2: so beautiful. It does work well. There's a lens flare
- 59:21Speaker 2: on Johnny, and it's just such a beautifully lit scene.
- 59:27Speaker 2: And I just love that Johnny, Dr. Cox, finally acquiesces
- 59:34Speaker 2: and sits in the chair. It's just such a, to
- 59:36Speaker 2: see Dr. Cox give in and sit down in a
- 59:39Speaker 2: wheelchair is just a very significant moment in the storytelling
- 59:45Speaker 2: of the show Scrubs.
- 59:46Speaker 1: Well, he has that moment of fight, though, right before it, too.
- 59:48Speaker 2: Yeah, well, he needs Dubois to summon his tough guy, Wes.
- 59:53Speaker 5: But you even see it in Johnny's face. He thinks
- 59:55Speaker 5: about it. I could, I'm a, no, get in the chair.
- 59:59Speaker 1: You know what I mean? At first he's like, you're right.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: Well, I think a part of him, I like to
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: think a part of him is proud. He's like, all right, yeah,
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: you're doing what you should be doing.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Even though he knows this is going to come back
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: and bite you.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: Even though he knows it's going to come haunt JD,
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: but he says, this is what I taught you to do.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: And then I love in the tag that, his ultimate
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: nightmare is that four of me just wants to hug him.
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: That's the weirdest tag ever because I'm not sure if
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: it's a fantasy or if it's real it's a dream
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: okay but then he hits you in the face with
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: a bedpan.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Well that's it's a dream within a dream within a
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: dream well that's assault sir no I guess I guess
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: that is technically a really hard hit with a bedpan
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: in real life but it was funny I laughed out
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: loud so yeah but uh yeah That's episode 202, everybody.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: 202.
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: Thoughts?
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: Is there anything, any thoughts? Any closing remarks?
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Go ahead, Joelle.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Guys, okay.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: So thinking a lot about what Donald said about the
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: seeds being planted, here's what I'm looking out for. I'm
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: worried Elliot is going to regret telling Jordan everything's going
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: to be okay. It's at my heart when she was like,
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: I promise.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: I was like, you never promise. Oh, no.
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: I'm worried that... Turk's handshaking really frightened me. I was like,
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: how bad is this? Like, is this something we should
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: be concerned about? Is this something that's going to get
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: worse over time? Makes me a little bit nervous.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: Turk's handshaking?
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: Um... When you were doing the banana stuff, your intern
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: is like, oh, your hand is shaking, old man. And
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: I was like, is this something I need to be
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: focusing in on?
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: And then, of course, now I'm worried about JD's job.
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: I was like, how is JD not fired? He's been
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: reported for insurance fraud. He's the head of medicine.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: It's making me nervous.
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: I'm glad there's so many laughs in this show so
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: it doesn't give me too much angst.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: By the way, speaking of, I'm sorry to interrupt you
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: for one second, Joelle. I just wanted to, do you
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: guys remember in that amazing dramatic speech that Johnny has,
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: Flavor Flav used to come back.
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: Right in the middle of it. And he had another joke.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: And we were like, yeah. And it was so, it
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: was so, it was funny, but it was like, it
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: totally ruined the drop-off.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: Joel, I love that you're having all of these, like,
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: that's so perfect.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Yeah, planting these seeds, Joel.
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: Like, wondering all those things. That's what we want.
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: I'm really enjoying watching the show. I had to really
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: show some restraint and not watch episode three. So I'm
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: probably going to go home and go do it now.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: Now you can watch three and four because. And audience,
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: thank you so much for tuning in. We appreciate you.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: This is so fun. I love our new set. I
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: love our new vibe. Sarah, we love having you here.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: Please come do a bunch.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: I love it.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: I mean, it's the least you can do since you
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: made us move to Canada. It is the very least
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: I can do. And thank you, Donald. Count us out.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: about a bunch of docs and nurses in a calendar
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: who love to hate.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: I said he's got stories that we.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: All should know.
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: So gather round to hear our, gather round.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: To hear our Scrubs Rewatch Show with Zach and Donald.
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
