- 0:00Speaker 1: Time now for back to the basics and healthcare with
- 0:01Speaker 1: balance life Chiropractic. We're with doctor Harley.
- 0:04Speaker 2: How you doing, Hey, John, another wonderful week ahead.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Yeah, we got easter coming up this weekend. I can't believe.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't believe it's Easter already.
- 0:11Speaker 1: It's already here, and this time of year, people are
- 0:14Speaker 1: out getting active doing stuff because like, you know, hey,
- 0:16Speaker 1: we're done, Like spring is here, We're going to go
- 0:19Speaker 1: out and do some yard work. We're going to go
- 0:20Speaker 1: out and you know, play what was it, disc golf?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I was just telling you when we were trying
- 0:24Speaker 2: to talk about what to talk about today, It's like
- 0:26Speaker 2: I'm feeling it today because I haven't knew a lot
- 0:28Speaker 2: of disc golf as the weather starting getting nicer. That's
- 0:31Speaker 2: me and my husband's activity of choice.
- 0:33Speaker 1: So when people overdo it playing disc golf or working
- 0:37Speaker 1: in the yard or doing whatever they choose to do.
- 0:40Speaker 1: One of the things that's amazing to me is if
- 0:41Speaker 1: you've got chiropractic as part of your medical and your
- 0:44Speaker 1: health routine, recovery time seems to be a lot better,
- 0:48Speaker 1: doesn't it.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Oh, definitely, it makes a big difference. You know, when
- 0:51Speaker 2: things are actually moving like they're supposed to. So I
- 0:54Speaker 2: think of your hips, for example, you're having a lot
- 0:56Speaker 2: of little back pain and you know you're stretching, you're
- 0:59Speaker 2: using all these things, it's still really tight, not getting better.
- 1:01Speaker 2: The problem could be that your hips are really out
- 1:03Speaker 2: of alignment and stuck, and you know, no amount of
- 1:07Speaker 2: stretching or working on the muscles are going to get
- 1:09Speaker 2: those joints to move like they're supposed to again. So
- 1:12Speaker 2: that's where we see chiropractic really is beneficial for helping
- 1:15Speaker 2: making sure things are moving properly and how they should.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And that's going to help your muscles not feel so
- 1:19Speaker 2: tight and sore and recover faster because they're not having
- 1:23Speaker 2: to work as hard.
- 1:23Speaker 1: And you know, there's like a medical anthem. Hips don't lie.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I think that's no, that's not a medical.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Anth No, I don't think.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I don't know who sings it. I was gonna say Shakira,
- 1:32Speaker 1: but I'm probably wrong.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I think you're right.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I think I was a DJ back in the day,
- 1:35Speaker 1: so maybe I think that's what it was.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I mean, you do kind of run a radio station,
- 1:38Speaker 2: I know, but not that we don't do that music.
- 1:40Speaker 1: So but hips don't lie. If you have sore hips
- 1:43Speaker 1: or if you've got a sore back, it could be
- 1:45Speaker 1: connected to something else. And it's not always necessarily well,
- 1:48Speaker 1: it hurts here, so the problem is here, it could
- 1:50Speaker 1: be somewhere else, completely.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Right, And so some things that you could be doing
- 1:54Speaker 2: in the meantime before you schedule your chiropractic appointment is
- 1:57Speaker 2: you know you would should you use ice? When should
- 1:59Speaker 2: you use heat? I get that question a lot. I
- 2:02Speaker 2: always find ice is really great for post activity. So
- 2:05Speaker 2: if you're a joint except we're going back to the
- 2:07Speaker 2: hips here because it's a good example. So you say
- 2:09Speaker 2: your hips are hurting, icing along your hip joints are
- 2:12Speaker 2: gonna help with some of the inflammation. So you do
- 2:14Speaker 2: twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off, do twenty minutes on again.
- 2:18Speaker 2: You want to get it to the point where the
- 2:19Speaker 2: skin and the joint are feeling really cold and actually
- 2:21Speaker 2: going to numbs. So it's probably gonna hurt. It's gonna
- 2:24Speaker 2: be because you have very cold. Cold doesn't feel great,
- 2:26Speaker 2: But we want to get to that numb point because
- 2:29Speaker 2: that's when we're getting the most effective therapeutic benefit of
- 2:32Speaker 2: that ice.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So when do we use heat then rather than ice.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I find heat's really good for the muscles if their
- 2:38Speaker 2: muscles are feeling really tight and achy or arthritis too.
- 2:41Speaker 2: If you get really stiff achy joints with arthritis, that's
- 2:44Speaker 2: where heat is really beneficial. And that's another one to do.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off, twenty minutes on again.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And we've talked numerous times about stretching and how important
- 2:52Speaker 1: that is. So if you're gonna be out doing yard work,
- 2:54Speaker 1: gonna be out playing disc golf, kinda be out doing
- 2:56Speaker 1: whatever it is, might be regular golf, whatever it is
- 2:59Speaker 1: that you do. Before you do that for the first
- 3:01Speaker 1: time every year, you know, because we've been kind of
- 3:04Speaker 1: hibernating for a bit before you do that, stretching is
- 3:06Speaker 1: really important, isn't it.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Definitely. If there's anything I recommend my patients to do
- 3:10Speaker 2: more of, it's to get out and stretch more throughout
- 3:12Speaker 2: the day. Very nice.
- 3:14Speaker 1: If somebody listening is saying, hey, I would like to
- 3:15Speaker 1: have this lady as my chiropractor, how do they make
- 3:17Speaker 1: that happen?
