- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Sophie Torber. I'm Kate Torber. And I'm Amy Torber. And
- 0:12Speaker 1: today we're coming to you with a very special episode
- 0:15Speaker 1: of Outspoken, the Taylor Swift wedding edition. Over the weekend,
- 0:21Speaker 1: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey tied the knot in what's
- 0:24Speaker 1: been described as the wedding of the century. The singer
- 0:28Speaker 1: finally got her love story saying, I do. to the Chiefs'
- 0:31Speaker 1: tight end in front of a star-studded guest list at
- 0:33Speaker 1: Madison Square Gardens. The celebration captivated fans around the world,
- 0:38Speaker 1: but many Swifties were shocked by the choice of venue. Yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 1: that's right. Many hardcore Taylor Swift fans didn't want to
- 0:44Speaker 1: believe that one of the most prolific songwriters of our
- 0:47Speaker 1: time was getting married in a sports stadium. Now, Madison
- 0:51Speaker 1: Square Gardens is, of course, home to the New York
- 0:53Speaker 1: Knicks and the Rangers. And a lot of fans were
- 0:56Speaker 1: convinced that this was all part of an elaborate plan
- 0:59Speaker 1: to get the media off the scent of the real
- 1:01Speaker 1: wedding venue. A lot of them argued that the arena
- 1:04Speaker 1: was too obvious and public for someone with Taylor's profile,
- 1:08Speaker 1: whilst others felt the sports stadium didn't really fit her vibe.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Let's throw to what one fan said.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Taylor Swift literally wrote the words, you call me up
- 1:16Speaker 2: again just to break me like a promise so casually
- 1:18Speaker 2: cruel in the name of being honest.
- 1:19Speaker 3: And we think she's getting married at Madison Square Garden.
- 1:21Speaker 1: There's no way. I was one of the Swifties that
- 1:24Speaker 1: also thought Madison Square Garden was definitely a decoy. When
- 1:28Speaker 1: I think of Taylor Swift's wedding, I imagine it to
- 1:30Speaker 1: be in the Hamptons and very private, a certain vibe. Yeah,
- 1:34Speaker 1: but Kate, that's the vibe if she was marrying Joe Olwen,
- 1:36Speaker 1: you could almost imagine them eloping and having no one
- 1:40Speaker 1: there and it all being top secret. But She's changed.
- 1:43Speaker 1: She's a new Taylor. I wondered, thinking back to Taylor
- 1:47Speaker 1: being at the Knicks game, was that all an Easter
- 1:50Speaker 1: egg to say, this is actually going to be my
- 1:51Speaker 1: wedding venue? Oh, definitely. I mean, at the game, she
- 1:53Speaker 1: was wearing a top that said Stevie Knicks. I mean,
- 1:56Speaker 1: Stevie Knicks performed at Taylor's wedding. Well, that's the thing.
- 1:58Speaker 1: There's a lot of egg on a lot of Swifties' faces.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I mean, another fan said, if you believe that Taylor
- 2:03Speaker 1: Swift is getting married at MSG on July 3rd, For
- 2:07Speaker 1: 1,100 people, you're an idiot. Normal people don't get married
- 2:11Speaker 1: on holiday weekends at huge stadiums, let alone the billionaire romantic.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I got married on a long weekend. And a very
- 2:19Speaker 1: hot day as well. There was quite a few similarities.
- 2:21Speaker 1: There was. I mean, you didn't have 1,000 guests. No,
- 2:24Speaker 1: not quite. You didn't shut down the streets. You're not
- 2:26Speaker 1: a billionaire. Surely, though, this wedding venue, it's got Travis
- 2:30Speaker 1: Kelsey all over it. Is he the one that persuaded
- 2:32Speaker 1: Taylor Swift to get married here? When you really think
- 2:34Speaker 1: about it, though– The venue suits them in the sense
- 2:37Speaker 1: that Travis is an athlete and Taylor is a singer
- 2:40Speaker 1: and Madison Square Garden hosts both sporting events and also
- 2:44Speaker 1: music events. So it's kind of them coming together. And
- 2:47Speaker 1: also people are like, oh, I can't believe 1,000 people
- 2:49Speaker 1: were there. But Taylor Swift is used to performing in
- 2:52Speaker 1: front of crowds of over 50,000 people. Travis Kelsey performs
- 2:55Speaker 1: in massive stadiums. So 1,000 people really isn't that many
- 2:59Speaker 1: to them. It's not a performance. It's a wedding. And
- 3:01Speaker 1: I think everyone expected Taylor Swift to have a beautiful–
- 3:06Speaker 1: intimate wedding. But with all her money, she would have
- 3:08Speaker 1: been able to transform Madison Square Garden into anything she wanted.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Well, another reason why a lot of Swifties were convinced
- 3:15Speaker 1: that this was some sort of decoy is because.
- 3:17Speaker 3: In Taylor's song, The Lucky One, she sings, choose the.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Rose garden over Madison Square. And this song is all
- 3:24Speaker 1: about the dark side of fame and how she'd rather
- 3:27Speaker 1: choose this peaceful life with privacy and quiet and away
- 3:31Speaker 1: from the spotlight, aka a rose garden, then the chaotic
- 3:35Speaker 1: rush of fame performing at Madison Square Garden. So this
- 3:37Speaker 1: seems in contrast to what she was singing about. Again,
- 3:40Speaker 1: Taylor co-wrote this album with Joe Alwyn. So I think
- 3:44Speaker 1: a lot of it was reflective of their relationship and
- 3:46Speaker 1: how he liked to keep things private. I mean, she
- 3:49Speaker 1: got her rose garden with Travis Kelsey as well, because
- 3:51Speaker 1: he proposed in a rose garden that he had constructed
- 3:55Speaker 1: in his backyard. So Why can't she have both? She
- 3:57Speaker 1: can have the Rose Garden and Madison Square Garden. I mean,
- 4:00Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of people saying online, oh, this
- 4:02Speaker 1: wedding looked very look at me, pay me attention. I
- 4:05Speaker 1: don't want anything to be private. But a lot of
- 4:08Speaker 1: Swifties have come out in defense of the venue choice.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Many argued that it was the perfect blank canvas for
- 4:13Speaker 1: someone with an unlimited budget like Taylor. One even used
- 4:17Speaker 1: AI to show how the stadium could be transformed. Let's
- 4:21Speaker 1: start at what one fan said.
- 4:23Speaker 5: Guys, she's not getting married on a basketball court. Like
- 4:26Speaker 5: her friends and family aren't going to be sitting in
- 4:28Speaker 5: folding bleacher seats. You're talking about this classless, tacky Madison
- 4:32Speaker 5: Square Garden wedding like it's gonna be set up like this.
- 4:35Speaker 1: This isn't Taylor Swift's wedding.
- 4:37Speaker 5: She's a fucking billionaire. It's gonna look like whatever she
- 4:39Speaker 5: wants it to look like. I'm imagining that Madison Square
- 4:41Speaker 5: Garden simply had the best walls to keep you fucking
- 4:44Speaker 5: weirdos out. It is merely a vessel for her vision.
- 4:47Speaker 5: And you guys are picturing it like some tacky gymnasium
- 4:49Speaker 5: middle school dance. You gotta think here, pal.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I love how she says that Madison Square Gardens has
- 4:55Speaker 1: the best walls to keep the fucking weirdos out. And
- 4:57Speaker 1: she's correct because the security would have been so tight.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I mean, we haven't seen any pictures from media. They
- 5:02Speaker 1: weren't able to get in anyway. On a small level- Well,
- 5:05Speaker 1: the ones that weren't invited. Yeah, there was Good Morning
- 5:07Speaker 1: American presenters invited, which was just bizarre. We are going
- 5:10Speaker 1: to be getting into the guest list a little bit later.
- 5:12Speaker 1: But I was going to say on a smaller scale,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I mean, in Australia, Tammy Hembrough and Matt Sikowsky's wedding-
- 5:17Speaker 1: the dress was leaked because they literally had a drone
- 5:20Speaker 1: over the top of that wedding. Can you imagine if
- 5:22Speaker 1: Taylor had this outside somewhere? And all we've seen is
- 5:25Speaker 1: like some tablecloths, haven't we? Let's say TNT on it.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Or all the AI photos that we're doing around. Sophie
- 5:30Speaker 1: sent one through on Saturday and she's like, oh my God,
- 5:33Speaker 1: like this was not how I expected her to like
- 5:35Speaker 1: wear her hair. And I was like, that is clearly
- 5:37Speaker 1: an AI photo. It looks pretty good. I sent it
- 5:39Speaker 1: to Sophie and I said, I'm pretty sure these are fake.
- 5:42Speaker 1: But the fake, they were good. They were good. Because
- 5:45Speaker 1: they even had, there was one that had a picture
- 5:47Speaker 1: of Sabrina Carpenter all blurry next to Taylor Swift. That's
- 5:51Speaker 1: what threw me, like how blurry they were. Anyway, getting
- 5:54Speaker 1: back to the lead up to the wedding, by the
- 5:56Speaker 1: middle of last week, it became very apparent that Madison
- 5:59Speaker 1: Square Garden wasn't a decoy and this was the real deal.
- 6:03Speaker 1: So large trucks were seen arriving at the venue's loading dock,
- 6:06Speaker 1: delivering food, decorations and event planning supplies. There were so
- 6:10Speaker 1: many cameras. waiting outside to see these trucks. People were
- 6:13Speaker 1: zooming up to see any labels that they could A
- 6:16Speaker 1: lot of journos claimed that they could see stuff labelled
- 6:18Speaker 1: like garden and decorations, but I call it a bullshit.
- 6:22Speaker 1: There was some guy driving a forklift that literally had
- 6:24Speaker 1: a T-shirt that said Taylor Swift's crew. So that kind
- 6:27Speaker 1: of gave it away. I mean, also the fact that
- 6:29Speaker 1: Travis's teammates were all staying in hotels in Midtown and
- 6:32Speaker 1: security had been ramping up. There were barricades closing off
- 6:35Speaker 1: the street. Well, things became even more obvious on Wednesday
- 6:38Speaker 1: night when a permit for a special event at MSG
- 6:41Speaker 1: was given away. by the New York mayor. And the
- 6:44Speaker 1: permit showed that 100 guests would be arriving in Madison
- 6:47Speaker 1: Square Garden at 6.30 p.m. local time on Thursday night
- 6:51Speaker 1: for a rehearsal dinner, followed by a full street closure
- 6:54Speaker 1: overnight with multiple entrances and drive-through areas to be erected
- 6:58Speaker 1: around the area. Now, the permit stated that the main
- 7:02Speaker 1: event was on Friday, aka the wedding, And it was
- 7:04Speaker 1: scheduled to last from 5 p.m. on Friday until 4 a.m.
- 7:08Speaker 1: the following morning. Was anyone confused as to why she
- 7:10Speaker 1: had a Friday wedding? Because I feel like it's a
- 7:12Speaker 1: bit of a contentious topic among brides. But I think
- 7:15Speaker 1: Saturday is the best day to have a wedding. I
- 7:16Speaker 1: think it was because she didn't want to have her
- 7:18Speaker 1: wedding on the 4th of July and take away from
- 7:20Speaker 1: the celebrations over the weekend. I mean, she's already created
- 7:24Speaker 1: a lot of headaches there. for locals in the area.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Imagine if she also took that up on the.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Actual day of the celebration. But she clearly chose the
- 7:32Speaker 1: 4th of July weekend because it's special to her. It's
- 7:34Speaker 1: her favourite holiday. Well, this sort of permit that Taylor
- 7:37Speaker 1: and Travis got isn't cheap. In order to hold an
- 7:40Speaker 1: event of this scale... which requires all of the street closures.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It costs as much as $ 66, 000 a day. Oh, come on.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That would be like loose change to Taylor Swift. Well,
- 7:49Speaker 1: as you can imagine, not everyone was pleased with these
- 7:51Speaker 1: street closures and they took to social media to complain
- 7:54Speaker 1: about them. I mean, as we've touched on, this was
- 7:57Speaker 1: the 4th of July weekend. A lot of people had
- 7:59Speaker 1: other plans and it did disrupt a lot of people.
- 8:02Speaker 1: The NYPD in the lead up to the wedding also
- 8:05Speaker 1: put out an alert to staff describing the event As
- 8:08Speaker 1: Taylor Swift's wedding.
- 8:09Speaker 4: It's funny.
- 8:09Speaker 1: My husband pulled me up the other day. I was like, oh,
- 8:12Speaker 1: Taylor and Travis's wedding. He's like, come on. It's just
- 8:14Speaker 1: Taylor Swift's wedding. Well, did you guys see this video
- 8:17Speaker 1: circulating in the lead up to the wedding? It went
- 8:19Speaker 1: viral on TikTok. It showed a police officer holding a
- 8:23Speaker 1: folder that said Swift Kelsey wedding. And it was in
- 8:26Speaker 1: the most hideous cursive writing you've ever seen. And the
- 8:29Speaker 1: couple's engagement photo was on the folder. And everyone was
- 8:32Speaker 1: going nuts about the font. Someone said in that font,
- 8:35Speaker 1: which got over 100,000 likes. And a lot of people
- 8:38Speaker 1: pointed out, look, this isn't from Taylor's team. Someone back
- 8:42Speaker 1: in the NYPD office clearly printed this out. They chose
- 8:45Speaker 1: the photo. They chose the writing. Can you imagine the
- 8:47Speaker 1: poor person that's like written it? And they're like, oh
- 8:49Speaker 1: my God, I thought I did quite a good job
- 8:51Speaker 1: of it. I mean, Sophie, you've touched on it, but
- 8:53Speaker 1: it's very clear this venue was strategically picked for security reasons.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I mean, it's proved to be an impenetrable fortress. It
- 9:00Speaker 1: allowed the couple to have the highest level of security
- 9:03Speaker 1: and avoid paparazzi and drones. We are yet at the
- 9:06Speaker 1: time of recording to see any photos, well, real photos
- 9:09Speaker 1: of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey in their wedding outfits.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I think the part Taylor liked the most was that
- 9:14Speaker 1: she and Travis, as well as the guests, were able
- 9:17Speaker 1: to drive into a private tented area in their cars
- 9:20Speaker 1: and escape being seen by the media and the public.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I mean, anyone that is a fan of Taylor Swift
- 9:24Speaker 1: will know that she's able to get on stage at
- 9:27Speaker 1: her concert because she hides in a like faked, mocked up,
- 9:31Speaker 1: cleaning cart. So clearly that's on her mind a lot.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I wonder if there was some form of entry that
- 9:37Speaker 1: she did that was a little bit quirky. I'm sure
- 9:39Speaker 1: we'll find out about it later if she did. According
- 9:42Speaker 1: to all reports, all employees working on the wedding were
- 9:45Speaker 1: required to also turn in their phones for 12 hours
- 9:48Speaker 1: whilst they were on site. I mean, that would have
- 9:50Speaker 1: had to be a necessity because, I mean, I know
- 9:52Speaker 1: that it sounds like a lot of the guests had
- 9:54Speaker 1: to sign NDAs in the lead up to the wedding,
- 9:55Speaker 1: but you could have imagined that someone working there sending
- 9:58Speaker 1: a sneaky photo.
- 9:59Speaker 4: To their friend.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I wonder if there was like a tiered system because
- 10:02Speaker 1: there were a lot of A-listers there. So was it like, okay,
- 10:05Speaker 1: if you're a Brad Pitt and a Hugh Grant, you
- 10:07Speaker 1: don't have to turn your phone in, you can take photos.
- 10:09Speaker 1: But were there some people like the Good Morning America
- 10:12Speaker 1: host that actually had to take their phones in too?
- 10:15Speaker 1: Any media. I mean, I don't actually think that, I
- 10:17Speaker 1: think it was only people working on the wedding who
- 10:19Speaker 1: had to turn in their phones. I don't think they
- 10:20Speaker 1: were asking the celebrities too. I've heard differently. I think
- 10:23Speaker 1: there was a no phones policy, but it's sort of
- 10:25Speaker 1: like at every other wedding where it's sort of understood
- 10:27Speaker 1: that you can't have your phone out when the bride's
- 10:29Speaker 1: walking down the aisle. Have you guys seen the TikTok
- 10:31Speaker 1: where someone's imitating Brittany Mahomes? And she's like, please, can
- 10:36Speaker 1: I just post the photo? And he's like, sorry, Brittany,
- 10:39Speaker 1: we can't because they haven't posted theirs. There's been a
- 10:42Speaker 1: lot of talk about how dystopian this wedding was. And
- 10:45Speaker 1: I think Taylor and Travis knew they were going to
- 10:48Speaker 1: cop this criticism because ahead of the wedding, it was
- 10:50Speaker 1: reported that the couple donated $ 26 million to charity. Are
- 10:55Speaker 1: we thinking this was damage control? Oh yeah. Tree Payne
- 10:57Speaker 1: would have been like, look guys, we're going to need
- 10:59Speaker 1: to drop a considerable amount of money. I mean, we
- 11:02Speaker 1: already know that Taylor donates a lot of her money
- 11:05Speaker 1: and also time to charity. So it's not surprising. A
- 11:08Speaker 1: lot of Swifties were analyzing the figure and the fact
- 11:11Speaker 1: that it's 26 million and saying, well, obviously Taylor Swift's
- 11:14Speaker 1: favorite number is 13. 13 times 2 is 26. Is
- 11:18Speaker 1: this also another sort of throwback to the fact that
- 11:21Speaker 1: they're in love and there's two of them? Or did
- 11:23Speaker 1: the wedding cost $ 26 million? Or do you think it
- 11:25Speaker 1: cost way more than that? Oh my God, way more
- 11:27Speaker 1: than that. One thing that even rich people can't control
- 11:30Speaker 1: is the weather. As we touched on, there was a
- 11:32Speaker 1: heat wave going on over the 4th of July weekend.
- 11:35Speaker 1: One reporter said that it felt like it was 41
- 11:38Speaker 1: degrees where he was standing. So he was standing amongst
- 11:41Speaker 1: fans who would swarm the streets. A lot of them
- 11:43Speaker 1: were wearing wedding dresses, which was quite funny. And this
- 11:46Speaker 1: obviously got my interest as you touched on, I got
- 11:48Speaker 1: married in 40 degree weather as well, but I'm sure
- 11:51Speaker 1: there was some good air con going on in Madison
- 11:53Speaker 1: Square Garden. I mean, that's the beauty of having it
- 11:55Speaker 1: somewhere like a stadium. You're not having to contend with
- 11:59Speaker 1: weather conditions outside. Well, the air conditioning was a really
- 12:02Speaker 1: contentious issue because a lot of New Yorkers were actually
- 12:05Speaker 1: being told to conserve their power while others were having
- 12:08Speaker 1: their electricity turned off. So there were a number of
- 12:11Speaker 1: deaths reported over that holiday. I mean, that's not Taylor
- 12:13Speaker 1: and Travis's fault, but it didn't help to the optics
- 12:16Speaker 1: of the wedding that there was this billionaire wedding going on.
- 12:20Speaker 1: It's actually pissing me off now because I've seen a
- 12:22Speaker 1: lot of commentary around, oh, Taylor Swift's not a nice
- 12:25Speaker 1: person because she's a billionaire. It's impossible to be an
- 12:28Speaker 1: ethical billionaire and people are comparing her wedding to Jeff Bezos.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I think people need to calm down. They need to
- 12:34Speaker 1: calm down. She... is an incredible billionaire. She gives back
- 12:38Speaker 1: a lot. And I think just let her have her
- 12:41Speaker 1: wedding day. I mean, Madison Square Garden hosts a lot
- 12:44Speaker 1: of events. So if there was a basketball game on,
- 12:46Speaker 1: would people have blamed that event for losing power? Like
- 12:49Speaker 1: it's just ridiculous. Now I want to know, how did
- 12:51Speaker 1: you guys feel waking up on Saturday morning knowing that
- 12:54Speaker 1: the wedding was taking place then? Well, a lot of
- 12:57Speaker 1: people have been saying they now know how their mums
- 12:59Speaker 1: felt when Princess Diana got married because it did have
- 13:02Speaker 1: that same kind of vibe. At least Princess Diana's wedding
- 13:04Speaker 1: was televised. We were just waiting on TikTok for any
- 13:08Speaker 1: snippet of information. I was just searching for any crumbs
- 13:11Speaker 1: I could find possible. And I was so jealous when
- 13:13Speaker 1: I woke up to see celebrity gossip account Dumois posting
- 13:16Speaker 1: all of the celebrities arriving. Like I had this real
- 13:18Speaker 1: pit in my stomach where I was like, this is bullshit.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Like I wish I could go. I wish I was
- 13:23Speaker 1: Hugh Grant. That was a weird thing for me because
- 13:27Speaker 1: you have this parasocial relationship with Taylor Swift. It almost
- 13:30Speaker 1: felt strange that I know she obviously is a celebrity,
- 13:33Speaker 1: but she feels somewhat like a friend because we've all
- 13:36Speaker 1: grown up with her. And then to see these A-listers
- 13:38Speaker 1: going to her wedding kind of felt odd. Well, in
- 13:41Speaker 1: the lead up to the wedding, she joked that anyone
- 13:43Speaker 1: she'd ever talked to would get an invite. And it
- 13:45Speaker 1: kind of seems like she made good on that promise.
- 13:48Speaker 1: There were hundreds of celebrities there. I loved one TikToker's
- 13:51Speaker 1: take on the guest list. Let's take a listen.
- 13:54Speaker 2: I don't think I've met them before, but invite them anyways.
- 13:57Speaker 2: If they've ever said anything nice about me publicly, we
- 14:01Speaker 2: can send them an invite. Benson Boone can come, but
- 14:03Speaker 2: only if I get to see some flips.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I loved her in that movie.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Let's totally invite her to the wedding. Carly, what the hell?
- 14:11Speaker 4: Sure.
- 14:11Speaker 2: She sat in the 300s at the heiress tour. I
- 14:14Speaker 2: think she suffered enough. The interns?
- 14:16Speaker 1: They can come.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Invite the major executives of every single media company. I
- 14:20Speaker 2: want business deals happening at my wedding. Anyone who has
- 14:24Speaker 2: ever opened for me, blanket invite. Except, you know who.
- 14:29Speaker 2: You should basically just invite anyone who is famous. I
- 14:33Speaker 2: don't think I've met them before, but invite them anyways.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I was shocked about Kylie Kloss being there. I was like, wow,
- 14:40Speaker 1: she's really throwing people. I mean, the only celebrity that
- 14:42Speaker 1: didn't seem to get an invite was Blake Lively. That's
- 14:44Speaker 1: the thing because she made this big fuss about, oh,
- 14:46Speaker 1: literally everyone's going to be invited. If you were that
- 14:49Speaker 1: one person that didn't get invited, you would feel so
- 14:51Speaker 1: left out. I've seen there are some reports coming out
- 14:54Speaker 1: today that Harry and Meghan are feeling left out. Now,
- 14:57Speaker 1: I don't know if this is just off the back
- 14:59Speaker 1: of Prince William's appearing on Travis Kelsey's podcast. But there
- 15:02Speaker 1: were also reports that Taylor and Travis dined with Prince
- 15:06Speaker 1: William and Kate Middleton. This makes me feel sad for
- 15:09Speaker 1: Harry and Meghan because we know what a huge fan
- 15:11Speaker 1: Harry is. He has mentioned... how Taylor's Reputation album got
- 15:15Speaker 1: him through leaving the royal family. I wonder how Steph
- 15:18Speaker 1: Clare Smith is feeling about all of this because she's
- 15:20Speaker 1: very publicly put on the record that she struck up
- 15:23Speaker 1: a friendship with Taylor Swift when she was living in
- 15:25Speaker 1: New York years ago. She actually went with Taylor to
- 15:28Speaker 1: pick out her cat. Yeah, I mean, to be fair,
- 15:30Speaker 1: it sounds like quite a fleeting friendship. But yeah, if
- 15:33Speaker 1: you've got Taylor Swift saying she's literally inviting every person
- 15:36Speaker 1: that she knows. Well, we should have been invited then.
- 15:38Speaker 1: We met her back in 2015 after a concert. I'm
- 15:41Speaker 1: gutted that we didn't make enough of an impression To
- 15:44Speaker 1: make the guest list. Do you think she invited some fans? Well,
- 15:47Speaker 1: I think it would have been a good move, but
- 15:49Speaker 1: I feel like she didn't because I think that story
- 15:51Speaker 1: would have come out by now, particularly because there has
- 15:53Speaker 1: been backlash that there's so many huge celebrities. We have
- 15:56Speaker 1: to run through some of the big A-listers who were there.
- 15:59Speaker 1: So Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper. We had Zoe Kravis,
- 16:03Speaker 1: no Harry Styles. He was performing in his 12th sold-out
- 16:07Speaker 1: Wembley Stadium. So he wasn't there. That would have been
- 16:09Speaker 1: a little bit awkward. I was surprised to see Kelsey
- 16:12Speaker 1: Ballerini there. So she is a country singer who dates
- 16:15Speaker 1: or slash broke up with my celebrity crush, Chase Stokes.
- 16:19Speaker 1: So she shared an Instagram story where she was driving
- 16:21Speaker 1: in a limousine and they were all blaring love story
- 16:25Speaker 1: on the way to the ceremony. It was so weird
- 16:27Speaker 1: to see because we actually did that on the way
- 16:28Speaker 1: to my wedding. And I'm like, it's so weird that
- 16:30Speaker 1: you're actually going to Taylor Swift's wedding. So many parallels
- 16:33Speaker 1: between our weddings. But didn't she apparently walk down to
- 16:35Speaker 1: love story as well? Yeah, this actually blew my mind.
- 16:39Speaker 1: At first I was like, oh. okay, that's sort of
- 16:41Speaker 1: a bit strange. But then I'm like, well, how, as
- 16:44Speaker 1: the biggest artist.
- 16:45Speaker 3: In the world, how could you not choose one of
- 16:47Speaker 3: your songs?
- 16:49Speaker 1: Well, this is music about her life. And also the
- 16:51Speaker 1: fact that so many people who have weddings also use
- 16:54Speaker 1: this song. Well, Paul McCartney was also there and he
- 16:57Speaker 1: took to the stage to perform I Want to Hold
- 16:58Speaker 1: Your Hand. Like it was absolutely wild. Steven Spielberg was there.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Jessica Alba, Millie Bobby Brown, Reese Witherspoon, like fucking literally
- 17:07Speaker 1: any celebrity that you could think of seemed to be there.
- 17:09Speaker 1: As you touched on, Amy, even the anchors of Good
- 17:11Speaker 1: Morning America were invited. Let's throw to what they said
- 17:15Speaker 1: about the wedding. We can confirm that, and we can
- 17:18Speaker 1: confirm that, yes, Stevie Nicks did perform. But it was so,
- 17:22Speaker 1: it really was intimate, wasn't.
- 17:23Speaker 4: It, guys?
- 17:23Speaker 2: As intimate as it could possibly be, given it was
- 17:25Speaker 2: Madison Square Garden, really this garden inside the garden.
- 17:29Speaker 1: It was just so beautiful.
- 17:32Speaker 2: It's hard to imagine that a place that big and
- 17:35Speaker 2: a wedding with such stars could feel so personal and
- 17:38Speaker 2: so intimate.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Because they had their neighbors, their high school friends. It
- 17:41Speaker 1: was like any wedding that you would attend.
- 17:43Speaker 5: It was their dream wedding, and it really was amazing.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Congratulations to both of them.
- 17:49Speaker 5: Oh, and their vows.
- 17:50Speaker 4: All right, they wrote their own vows.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Little books.
- 17:53Speaker 1: You would expect nothing less from Taylor Swift.
- 17:56Speaker 4: That's true.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And on top of congratulations, thank you for inviting us.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 18:00Speaker 5: That was very kind.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Really, really appreciate it. Now, Taylor Swift didn't leave her
- 18:03Speaker 1: fans waiting too long. At 7.27 p.m. New York time,
- 18:07Speaker 1: jumbotrons outside the venue lit up to reveal the couple
- 18:11Speaker 1: was officially husband and wife. At first glance, it looked
- 18:15Speaker 1: like it just said, just married. But when you looked closer-
- 18:18Speaker 1: They had added TNT for Travis and Taylor. I literally
- 18:23Speaker 1: screenshot this and sent it immediately through to you guys.
- 18:25Speaker 1: And Amy was like, no, that's not it. There's a
- 18:27Speaker 1: spelling error there. That's not their announcement. It just looked
- 18:30Speaker 1: weird to me. I was like, it doesn't make sense.
- 18:31Speaker 1: It just and T. It still doesn't make sense to
- 18:34Speaker 1: me because it didn't really read well. And they actually
- 18:37Speaker 1: had it on the number plate of one of the
- 18:39Speaker 1: cars at the venue. And I'm like, there was something
- 18:43Speaker 1: about it I didn't like. Like I saw the TNT
- 18:47Speaker 1: as like the wedding motif. And it kind of just
- 18:50Speaker 1: reminded me of the Reputation logo.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Yes.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I also think that everyone seems shocked by this, but
- 18:55Speaker 1: in terms of the style of the wedding, Taylor Swift
- 18:57Speaker 1: has never been known for her style. She's always been
- 18:59Speaker 1: called unstylish, if anything. You know what I mean? Yeah,
- 19:02Speaker 1: I just meant more the spelling error. What I thought
- 19:05Speaker 1: was funny, though, about the way that they announced that
- 19:06Speaker 1: they were married is a couple of journos have compared
- 19:09Speaker 1: it to when the smoke rises over the Vatican to
- 19:11Speaker 1: announce the selection of a new pope. They're like, look,
- 19:13Speaker 1: they just blasted on the screens outside Madison Square Gardeners.
- 19:16Speaker 1: The Empire State Building also lit up blue. So it
- 19:19Speaker 1: seems like that was actually Taylor's something blue. In an
- 19:23Speaker 1: official statement, it was announced that the landmark would be
- 19:25Speaker 1: lit up with a light blue sparkle color on the
- 19:28Speaker 1: evening of July 3rd. it wasn't clear if this was
- 19:30Speaker 1: a request from Taylor or not. That's why a lot
- 19:32Speaker 1: of other people were being like, we're all being told
- 19:34Speaker 1: to turn off our air con and they're lighting up
- 19:36Speaker 1: the Empire State Building blue to celebrate Taylor's wedding. What
- 19:40Speaker 1: I found most wild was when the media release came out.
- 19:43Speaker 1: So poor Tree Payne, she's trying to enjoy the wedding
- 19:45Speaker 1: and she's having to release statements to the media. Oh,
- 19:47Speaker 1: come on. She would have had that shed in beforehand.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Can you imagine if there was a scheduling issue? Like,
- 19:53Speaker 1: you know how power's going out in the city? Like,
- 19:55Speaker 1: imagine if it just went out prior. Now, in this statement... Tree.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Didn't specify when or where the couple got married.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I mean, even though it was pretty obvious. Well, no,
- 20:04Speaker 1: but that's because a lot of people think that the
- 20:06Speaker 1: couple actually got married in a more intimate ceremony beforehand.
- 20:10Speaker 1: So that's why she didn't specify when or where they
- 20:13Speaker 1: got married. I think people are holding on to hope
- 20:15Speaker 1: that that happened for some reason. It just doesn't make
- 20:17Speaker 1: sense in people's head that this was the actual wedding. Now,
- 20:20Speaker 1: while no official photos have been released, I'm guessing they'll
- 20:23Speaker 1: be dropped just as this podcast goes to air. The
- 20:26Speaker 1: media statement actually confirmed what they were wearing. So they
- 20:29Speaker 1: were dressed by Dior designer Jonathan Anderson. Why do you
- 20:33Speaker 1: think this information was released? Is it a collaboration maybe?
- 20:36Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think it's a situation where Taylor
- 20:39Speaker 1: had to have a free dress or anything like that,
- 20:41Speaker 1: like a lot of influences, but I wouldn't be surprised
- 20:43Speaker 1: if she was inundated by designers contacting her and clearly
- 20:47Speaker 1: there was some sort of agreement that if they were
- 20:49Speaker 1: to make her this grand dress, they get some sort
- 20:52Speaker 1: of recognition in the press release. Do you think it
- 20:53Speaker 1: was also a way of saying, hey, those AI photos
- 20:56Speaker 1: that keep popping up everywhere, that's not the dress because
- 20:59Speaker 1: it's actually been made by Dior because I was pretty
- 21:01Speaker 1: shocked originally when I saw that photo and was like, oh,
- 21:03Speaker 1: my God, is this real? I didn't expect Taylor to
- 21:06Speaker 1: wear a dress like that. What do you guys think
- 21:08Speaker 1: she would have worn? Like what are we guessing the
- 21:09Speaker 1: photos are going to look like? I think something that
- 21:11Speaker 1: matched up with her ring. So very sort of classic looking.
- 21:15Speaker 1: We have heard that she had a long train. I'm
- 21:17Speaker 1: thinking lace, long sleeves, a bit like what Delta Goodrum
- 21:21Speaker 1: wore at her wedding, like fairytale vibes. I'm convinced that
- 21:25Speaker 1: Travis Kelsey did not wear a black tuxedo.
- 21:27Speaker 5: No.
- 21:28Speaker 1: As soon as I saw those images, that's what actually
- 21:30Speaker 1: made me think that they were fake because I was
- 21:31Speaker 1: like he would look great in a black tuxedo but
- 21:33Speaker 1: he's got too much like personality. He would be the
- 21:36Speaker 1: sort of guy that would want either, I mean, a
- 21:38Speaker 1: white suit. That's the rumour. Well, one fan squealed and
- 21:41Speaker 1: said he did wear a white suit. Oh, see, I
- 21:43Speaker 1: more imagined him. Fan or guest? Guest, sorry. I actually
- 21:46Speaker 1: more imagined him in like a burgundy velvet number. I
- 21:49Speaker 1: was going to say the other thing was either like, yeah, burgundy.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Or brown, like a chocolate brown because that kind of,
- 21:53Speaker 1: goes with the stuff that we've seen him wearing. He
- 21:56Speaker 1: wears very loud clothing. I don't like a white suit.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I think a cream suit. Your husband wore a blue
- 22:02Speaker 1: suit with a pink tie. That was kind of out there. Well, yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 1: pink tie. Well, the pink tie suited the bridesmaid's dresses.
- 22:08Speaker 1: I didn't have anything to do with his suit. I
- 22:10Speaker 1: wanted him in a black tuxedo. I think you just
- 22:12Speaker 1: can't get past a black tuxedo. They just look so classy.
- 22:16Speaker 1: We have to talk about the bridal party because they
- 22:17Speaker 1: went with something quite unconventional. So Taylor's reps revealed that
- 22:21Speaker 1: Taylor and Travis didn't have bridesmaids or groomsmen. Instead, Taylor's
- 22:25Speaker 1: brother Austin was her man of honor and Jason Kelsey
- 22:29Speaker 1: was Travis's best man. God, how cut do you think
- 22:32Speaker 1: Taylor's high school friend Abigail was? Like this was her
- 22:34Speaker 1: big moment and Taylor Swift was her bridesmaid. I fell
- 22:37Speaker 1: for Abigail because not only was she not a bridesmaid,
- 22:40Speaker 1: but she also wore the same dress as one of
- 22:43Speaker 1: the NFL players' girlfriends. To be fair, it would have
- 22:45Speaker 1: been really hard for Taylor and maybe this was the
- 22:47Speaker 1: way of not offending people, particularly because you know, when
- 22:51Speaker 1: you're picking your bridesmaids, you feel like you're having to
- 22:53Speaker 1: rank them, even when it gets to the point where
- 22:55Speaker 1: you have to have them standing next to you at
- 22:57Speaker 1: the altar. It's like, oh, do you put it in
- 22:59Speaker 1: order of how long you've known people? Also, do you
- 23:01Speaker 1: reckon when all of your bridesmaids are going to potentially
- 23:05Speaker 1: be A-list celebrities or models, you don't really want someone
- 23:07Speaker 1: stealing your thunder? You know what I mean? Oh, I
- 23:09Speaker 1: don't think it was about that at all. I mean,
- 23:11Speaker 1: I think she's just got so many female friends and
- 23:13Speaker 1: there's been so much attention on who she's friends with.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I mean, back in 2015, you know, it was all
- 23:18Speaker 1: about Taylor Swift's hot group of friends, the girl gang,
- 23:22Speaker 1: they were all in the bad blood film clip. So
- 23:25Speaker 1: I think maybe she didn't want the attention on who
- 23:27Speaker 1: was selected. Well, I love the fact that she also
- 23:30Speaker 1: broke with tradition because again, at my wedding, I had
- 23:33Speaker 1: bridesmen and my husband had his sister as his best woman.
- 23:36Speaker 1: So I love that. I've heard a lot of wedding
- 23:39Speaker 1: planners saying, oh my God, I hope Taylor Swift's wedding
- 23:42Speaker 1: is really tasteful because we're literally going to be requested
- 23:44Speaker 1: whatever she has for years now. I think it also
- 23:47Speaker 1: makes sense because Travis Kelsey playing football. He would have
- 23:50Speaker 1: a lot of mates and they probably didn't want that
- 23:52Speaker 1: awkward thing where, you know, there's like 25 people standing
- 23:55Speaker 1: up at the altar with you. A bit of a
- 23:56Speaker 1: sausage fest.
- 23:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Well, what surprised a lot of people was who officiated
- 24:01Speaker 1: this ceremony. This is at the point when I thought
- 24:03Speaker 1: I was being punked. Yeah. So Taylor's reps just casually dropped.
- 24:06Speaker 1: that it was Adam Sandler. I saw this meme going
- 24:09Speaker 1: around and they're like, every guy gets to choose one
- 24:12Speaker 1: thing at the wedding. And obviously that was Travis's contribution. Yeah,
- 24:16Speaker 1: because Travis appeared in Happy Gilmore 2 last year. Was
- 24:20Speaker 1: that an Easter egg? Maybe. But have you seen all
- 24:22Speaker 1: of the American news reporters? They're like, Adam Sandler from
- 24:26Speaker 1: The Wedding Singer performed. He's known for weddings. Well, Adam
- 24:30Speaker 1: Sandler has actually come out and said that Taylor Swift
- 24:32Speaker 1: is one of the only celebrities that he's starstruck by.
- 24:35Speaker 1: So his girls absolutely love her. And he said, oh,
- 24:39Speaker 1: he just gets really nervous around her because he doesn't
- 24:41Speaker 1: want to ruin it for his girls. He's like, I
- 24:42Speaker 1: just want to be cool. Like, I don't want to, like,
- 24:44Speaker 1: I get nervous around her. Imagine having that nervous energy
- 24:47Speaker 1: at your wedding. Like, she's probably feeling nervous enough. And
- 24:50Speaker 1: then he's like probably sweating. He's a professional. He's an actor. Yeah.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I just want to know what did he wear because
- 24:56Speaker 1: he's known not to really dress up. I mean, maybe
- 24:58Speaker 1: he was wearing his best white tracksuit to sort of
- 25:01Speaker 1: blend in with what Travis Kelsey was wearing. I mean,
- 25:03Speaker 1: Ed Sheeran came with Nikes on and no tie and
- 25:07Speaker 1: a bright blue suit. Oh, and his wife, Sherry, was
- 25:09Speaker 1: wearing a very bright outfit too. Some of the outfits
- 25:12Speaker 1: I was like, wow, that's bold. Like imagine having to
- 25:15Speaker 1: shop for Taylor Swift's wedding. There was clearly– There was
- 25:17Speaker 1: clearly no stipulation on colors that you could wear. Can
- 25:20Speaker 1: you imagine if you were one of the normies at
- 25:22Speaker 1: this wedding? Like say you're Travis Kelsey's long lost uncle
- 25:27Speaker 1: and you've somehow got an invite to the wedding and
- 25:29Speaker 1: you were standing there and there's Hugh Grant. Like I
- 25:31Speaker 1: wonder if they were able to take photos or I
- 25:34Speaker 1: wonder who embarrassed themselves in front of celebrities. Also the
- 25:37Speaker 1: Kelsey family because they were really starstruck by Taylor Swift.
- 25:41Speaker 1: So imagine, you know, you go in the bathroom, there's
- 25:43Speaker 1: Brad Pitt. But I mean, there were a thousand people there.
- 25:46Speaker 1: So I'm wondering, like, and I don't think this would
- 25:49Speaker 1: be the case because Taylor Swift's not that sort of person.
- 25:51Speaker 1: But can you imagine if they had like a roped
- 25:52Speaker 1: off area for the A-listers? No, they would never. It's
- 25:56Speaker 1: funny because on a very small level, it reminds me
- 25:58Speaker 1: of at my wedding and also at Soap's, we invited
- 26:01Speaker 1: Gamble Bro from Real Housewives of Melbourne because we've been
- 26:03Speaker 1: friends with Gamble for a number of years and we've
- 26:05Speaker 1: also done a PR. And it just felt fitting to
- 26:07Speaker 1: invite her. Love Gamble. And I think some of our
- 26:10Speaker 1: friends who didn't realize the connection were like, oh my God,
- 26:13Speaker 1: why is Gamble Bro from Real Housewives of Melbourne here?
- 26:16Speaker 1: And the best bit was she was literally sitting like
- 26:18Speaker 1: first or second row at Sophie's wedding. But also it
- 26:22Speaker 1: was so funny because one of Dale's friends, Nick, he
- 26:25Speaker 1: was actually on Survivor and he did the, what is
- 26:29Speaker 1: it like the warmup speeches? He was sort of MC
- 26:31Speaker 1: for a bit. And he made a joke about Gamble
- 26:34Speaker 1: being a D-grade celebrity and how there were D-grade celebrities there.
- 26:38Speaker 1: And he's like, I really hope I didn't offend her.
- 26:40Speaker 1: But she was laughing. And because Adelaide's so small and
- 26:43Speaker 1: my wedding was in January, so it was a very
- 26:45Speaker 1: slow news week, someone from the advertiser contacted us to
- 26:48Speaker 1: do a story about it. And they put in there like,
- 26:51Speaker 1: there were also some familiar faces, Gamble bro, Nick from Survivor.
- 26:56Speaker 1: And I was like, oh my God, this is hilarious.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Getting back to Taylor's wedding, it was quite clear that
- 27:00Speaker 1: the media was were hoping that at least one of
- 27:03Speaker 1: the thousand guests was going to post too much or
- 27:05Speaker 1: squeal about what went down. As we touched on, they
- 27:08Speaker 1: were reportedly made to sign non-disclosure agreements, which came with
- 27:12Speaker 1: their invites. Yet one of the wedding guests clearly broke
- 27:15Speaker 1: that agreement because he posted a very lengthy insider account
- 27:19Speaker 1: of what went on. So he put this up on X.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Now the guest in question was Aaron Aron. So he
- 27:23Speaker 1: is the CEO of AMC. So he became friendly with
- 27:27Speaker 1: Taylor when he negotiated her movie deal. So he brought
- 27:30Speaker 1: the iris to her to theaters worldwide. So he would
- 27:33Speaker 1: be familiar with contracts. Yes. Particularly in NDA. I want
- 27:37Speaker 1: to point out that his post has since been removed,
- 27:39Speaker 1: but he went into a lot of detail about what
- 27:41Speaker 1: went down. It kind of reminds me of those older
- 27:44Speaker 1: relatives who don't realize they're not allowed to post, you know,
- 27:47Speaker 1: their grainy picture of the bride before she's even shared
- 27:50Speaker 1: her own photos. Their iPad photo. Their unflattering photo. That
- 27:54Speaker 1: happened to me and it was a family friend on
- 27:56Speaker 1: Risa's side of the family. And I was absolutely spewing
- 28:00Speaker 1: because It's like the worst photo of me. And I
- 28:03Speaker 1: was like, I mean, thank God these people don't have
- 28:05Speaker 1: any followers or, you know. Wait, did they tag you?
- 28:07Speaker 1: I remember. It's funny because when I haven't been invited
- 28:10Speaker 1: to a wedding, but know that someone's wedding's come up,
- 28:13Speaker 1: I always go and look at their Facebook to see
- 28:14Speaker 1: if some random relative posted something or you check their
- 28:18Speaker 1: tagged photos on Instagram. Well, the difficulty with Taylor's wedding
- 28:21Speaker 1: is that all of these people do have a following. So,
- 28:24Speaker 1: and obviously the media were just trying to see anyone
- 28:27Speaker 1: mentioning it. In the post, Adam described the transformation of
- 28:30Speaker 1: Madison Square Garden saying immediately upon entry, everything, floors, walls,
- 28:35Speaker 1: ceilings were draped in peach and white. Large blown up
- 28:38Speaker 1: pictures of Taylor and Travis at each age, year by year,
- 28:41Speaker 1: from one year old to late teenagehood were on display. Wow,
- 28:45Speaker 1: that's an interesting thing to include at a wedding, isn't it?
- 28:48Speaker 1: I love it. I actually think, I was saying to mum,
- 28:51Speaker 1: I was like, if I was a huge celebrity, I
- 28:52Speaker 1: would have done that because I'm obsessed with photography. But
- 28:56Speaker 1: doesn't that seem more like a 21st birthday thing? No,
- 28:58Speaker 1: because you've got to remember- When you have a wedding,
- 29:01Speaker 1: it's all about you. It's like the last real celebration
- 29:05Speaker 1: of you as an adult. It's almost like if you
- 29:07Speaker 1: choose to have children. The celebrations are then about your children.
- 29:11Speaker 1: This is the last time for them to be. I mean,
- 29:12Speaker 1: it's a bit of storytelling from the start. And these
- 29:16Speaker 1: are two families coming together. A lot of people on
- 29:19Speaker 1: a very small level on tables, they will have pictures
- 29:23Speaker 1: of them as children. I feel like a lot of
- 29:24Speaker 1: critics will say that this is very ego driven, but
- 29:27Speaker 1: I think it's a really cute touch. I think it's
- 29:28Speaker 1: so cute. He continued in the post saying a small
- 29:31Speaker 1: portion of MSG was cornered off, devoid of any notion
- 29:34Speaker 1: that a basketball or hockey game ever shared that space.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Somehow magically someone created an outdoor garden at a lush
- 29:41Speaker 1: countryside retreat everything draped off this time in green and
- 29:45Speaker 1: white real flowers and i think artificial trees welcome 15
- 29:49Speaker 1: rows of maybe 74 or so chairs they say there
- 29:52Speaker 1: were around 1000 attendees but surprisingly it felt intimate and
- 29:56Speaker 1: small everything was close. I just love the detail that
- 30:00Speaker 1: this guy has gone into, particularly on a platform like
- 30:03Speaker 1: X that doesn't really let you share a lot. He's
- 30:05Speaker 1: obviously made multiple posts about it. It reminds me of
- 30:08Speaker 1: our dad because anything he goes to, he has to
- 30:10Speaker 1: write a full review of it. He's got the most
- 30:13Speaker 1: TripAdvisor reviews in the state of anybody. I just found
- 30:17Speaker 1: it interesting that he also spoke about how intimate this
- 30:20Speaker 1: wedding felt because when the Good Morning America host spoke
- 30:23Speaker 1: about it, they chose a very similar line. They said,
- 30:26Speaker 1: Despite there being a thousand people, it felt very intimate.
- 30:29Speaker 1: So I wonder if they have been told, you can
- 30:31Speaker 1: say this and this and these points. Tree pain has
- 30:33Speaker 1: given them some key messaging to stick to. Please do
- 30:35Speaker 1: not mention X, Y and Z. Well, I was interested
- 30:38Speaker 1: to hear that the theme was described as Alice in
- 30:40Speaker 1: Wonderland meets Wizard of Oz. It sounds very sort of mystical.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm a fan of that for
- 30:44Speaker 1: a wedding. But that is so Taylor. That's the thing
- 30:47Speaker 1: for me. For me personally, no, but for Taylor, yes. Also,
- 30:50Speaker 1: for me personally, yes, if I had a billion dollars. Yeah, true.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Can you imagine? You know, that on a budget wouldn't
- 30:57Speaker 1: be so nice. You're not going to your local costume
- 30:59Speaker 1: shop and getting some tacky decorations. Like this is, I mean,
- 31:03Speaker 1: I can already see it in my mind, particularly all
- 31:05Speaker 1: the greenery. Like I think that's what people were expecting
- 31:08Speaker 1: from that she would go to some location that had
- 31:10Speaker 1: that naturally. But she has the means to bring that inside.
- 31:13Speaker 1: And also with the Eras tour, you were able to
- 31:15Speaker 1: see how she was able to transform those sets into
- 31:19Speaker 1: different worlds. So she probably thought, well, I've got to
- 31:21Speaker 1: know the best people in the business to be able
- 31:23Speaker 1: to do this. Well, as we touched on earlier, Adam
- 31:25Speaker 1: even dropped details on what the bride and groom wore.
- 31:28Speaker 1: So he wrote, a few violins and cellos ushered in
- 31:30Speaker 1: the wedding party, headlined by handsome Travis in a white
- 31:33Speaker 1: tux and a jaw-dropping tailor in a stunning white dress
- 31:37Speaker 1: with a long veiled train. We needed more details on
- 31:41Speaker 1: the dress as well. As for Adam Sandler, it was
- 31:43Speaker 1: a bit weird because he didn't actually specifically name him,
- 31:46Speaker 1: but just said he was funny, welcoming and eloquent. He
- 31:49Speaker 1: also described the vows as long, entertaining, personal, charming, emotional,
- 31:54Speaker 1: irreverent and an endearing exploration of how they met and
- 31:57Speaker 1: why they wanted to be with each other for eternity.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I've heard the vows went for 20 minutes each, so
- 32:03Speaker 1: 40 minutes in total. But who wouldn't want to listen
- 32:05Speaker 1: to that? I actually saw the cutest meme And it said,
- 32:08Speaker 1: I hope Travis Kelsey enjoys growing old with Taylor Swift
- 32:11Speaker 1: as much as we enjoyed growing up with her. You
- 32:15Speaker 1: know what? Usually it is a bit of a no-no
- 32:17Speaker 1: to have like a really long speech and vows. But
- 32:21Speaker 1: if you're Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey, everyone's hanging off
- 32:23Speaker 1: every word. See, that's my favorite bit of the wedding.
- 32:25Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I rub my hands together. I'm like,
- 32:27Speaker 1: let's hear what they're going to say. And also, do
- 32:29Speaker 1: you think Adam Sandler had the job? Because when you
- 32:32Speaker 1: get married by a celebrant, they get your vows beforehand
- 32:36Speaker 1: and they go, okay, add a little bit more or
- 32:39Speaker 1: this doesn't, you know, yours is a little bit too jokey. Like,
- 32:41Speaker 1: do you think that they matched up? Because how much
- 32:44Speaker 1: pressure was on Travis Kelsey to nail these vows? That's
- 32:47Speaker 1: what I was going to say. I don't think Taylor
- 32:48Speaker 1: would have needed any help, but perhaps there was someone
- 32:50Speaker 1: from Taylor's team kind of coaching Travis on what to write. Now,
- 32:54Speaker 1: Adam added, what was clear above all else was simply this,
- 32:58Speaker 1: their profound love. This is no small love. Each at
- 33:01Speaker 1: the absolute pinnacle of their worlds. each so obviously head
- 33:05Speaker 1: over heels about having found their soulmate. I thought that
- 33:08Speaker 1: was such a lovely way to put it. Now, when
- 33:11Speaker 1: Taylor and Travis were named husband and wife, Adam described
- 33:14Speaker 1: their kiss as a sweep you off your feet kiss.
- 33:16Speaker 1: So you can just imagine that. And he said that
- 33:18Speaker 1: the party then started with lots of music, superb food
- 33:21Speaker 1: and drink. As for the entertainment, he added, it was music, music, music,
- 33:25Speaker 1: and finished by saying, I wish you all could have
- 33:27Speaker 1: been there with me to witness real, pure, true joy.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I mean, me too, Adam, me too. Well, also TMZ
- 33:34Speaker 1: are now reporting that Travis Kelsey was in tears throughout
- 33:38Speaker 1: Taylor Swift's vows. Of course he was. Brandon, your husband, Sophie.
- 33:41Speaker 1: would like to hear this because he was teary the
- 33:44Speaker 1: whole time. If we're drawing more similarities here.
- 33:46Speaker 4: Was it tear or sweat?
- 33:46Speaker 1: Because maybe Travis Kelsey was also sweating. So many parallels,
- 33:50Speaker 1: aren't there? According to Demois as well, apparently the whole
- 33:54Speaker 1: room was in tears when Taylor gave her speech because
- 33:56Speaker 1: she recalled how she once wondered, if love would ever
- 33:59Speaker 1: happen to her after people spent years saying her life
- 34:02Speaker 1: was too much. Everyone's like, babe, we know, we listen
- 34:04Speaker 1: to the CDs. Why am I getting shivers when I
- 34:07Speaker 1: hear all of this? Like I am so jealous of
- 34:09Speaker 1: this 70 year old guy, Adam, that got to sit
- 34:11Speaker 1: front row at this, but I love that he's given
- 34:14Speaker 1: his rundown of events. I think if I had a wedding,
- 34:17Speaker 1: I think I'd like him to, you know, report back
- 34:19Speaker 1: on what happened. It was absolutely very lovely, all the
- 34:22Speaker 1: things that he said. Sad he had to delete it. Now,
- 34:24Speaker 1: one of the guests gave us an insight into what
- 34:26Speaker 1: was on the table at the wedding. So country singer,
- 34:28Speaker 1: Maureen Morris shared a photo of a napkin edged in
- 34:31Speaker 1: lace and embroidered with the two T's intertwined in hearts.
- 34:36Speaker 1: And alongside it was the wedding date, the location, and
- 34:39Speaker 1: a line from Blank Space. So on the napkin, it read,
- 34:42Speaker 1: so it's going to be forever. I love that. I
- 34:46Speaker 1: think some people will say, oh, this turkey to incorporate
- 34:48Speaker 1: her own lyrics and how self-indulgent. But I mean, so
- 34:51Speaker 1: many millennial's have had Taylor songs as part of their
- 34:54Speaker 1: weddings and a special moment. I mean, she wrote the
- 34:57Speaker 1: fucking song. But also, but Travis Kelsey, who was a
- 35:01Speaker 1: fan of Taylor Swift, he was at her concert and
- 35:03Speaker 1: then called out and said he wanted to meet her.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Maybe he asked to have that. And you know, people
- 35:07Speaker 1: are saying, oh, how self-indulgent for Taylor to walk down
- 35:09Speaker 1: the aisle to her own song. It's like, Maybe Travis
- 35:12Speaker 1: Kelsey requested that. Surely they would have had to have
- 35:14Speaker 1: friendship bracelets as Bomboneri. I feel like Taylor Swift would
- 35:17Speaker 1: be a bride that would have handwritten every guest some
- 35:21Speaker 1: special note on their table. I know there were a
- 35:23Speaker 1: thousand people, but she is so dedicated to, like there
- 35:27Speaker 1: was this whole thing, I don't know, it was 10
- 35:28Speaker 1: years ago when she was buying fans Christmas presents and
- 35:32Speaker 1: writing personalized notes. Like I feel like she would definitely
- 35:35Speaker 1: do that. I saw all these pap shots of the
- 35:37Speaker 1: last celebrities to leave the wedding. And I just thought
- 35:40Speaker 1: that would have been me if I was invited. You
- 35:42Speaker 1: would have to hold me out of there. They would
- 35:43Speaker 1: have had to drag me out. Who was it? So, well,
- 35:47Speaker 1: apparently Sabrina Carpenter. Kesha, the Chainsmokers, Avril Lavigne and Tate McRae.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Apparently they all stayed late doing karaoke. Oh my God,
- 35:54Speaker 1: how iconic would have this been? Like, do they do
- 35:57Speaker 1: karaoke to their own songs? Or just like Sabrina Kaufman
- 36:00Speaker 1: to go, oh Avril, I'm going to have a little
- 36:01Speaker 1: go at Sk8er Boi. You can do Espresso. I wonder
- 36:04Speaker 1: if they only could do Taylor Swift karaoke. No, surely not.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Now Kate, you touched on the fact that there were
- 36:09Speaker 1: personalized number plates going on. Well, it was pretty cute
- 36:12Speaker 1: because Travis and Taylor left in a red 70s Chevy
- 36:16Speaker 1: sports car with the Just Married on the back. And
- 36:19Speaker 1: this was a throwback to the car that Travis drove
- 36:21Speaker 1: Taylor in after her first Chiefs game back in September 2023.
- 36:25Speaker 1: And it was infamously touted as their getaway car. So
- 36:28Speaker 1: I think that that is a really beautiful touch. What
- 36:30Speaker 1: I want to know is how did they get the
- 36:31Speaker 1: car out of there with the newlyweds in it? Everyone
- 36:35Speaker 1: could have heard the cans rattling as it drove out.
- 36:37Speaker 1: I'm surprised they actually didn't do that. I mean, that
- 36:40Speaker 1: would have been a really cute shot. The paparazzi getting that.
- 36:42Speaker 1: I mean, Taylor wouldn't have been in the wedding dress
- 36:44Speaker 1: that she walked down the aisle. She could have, you know,
- 36:46Speaker 1: she would have been in a going away outfit type
- 36:48Speaker 1: of vibe. Well, the exit everyone's talking about is Taylor's
- 36:51Speaker 1: caterers leaving. Have you guys seen this TikTok that he
- 36:54Speaker 1: drove out? and started handing out boxes of cakes to
- 36:58Speaker 1: the crowd. There's been a video on TikTok, which has
- 37:00Speaker 1: gone absolutely viral of a man taking out one of
- 37:03Speaker 1: the desserts and eating it. The issue for Taylor Swift
- 37:06Speaker 1: now is that people are drawing comparisons between Mary Antoinette
- 37:11Speaker 1: and Taylor Swift because they're saying this is a very
- 37:14Speaker 1: let them eat cake moment. The fact that they were
- 37:16Speaker 1: even handing out bits of cake during this heat wave.
- 37:19Speaker 1: I wonder if she approved it. Well, one TikToker summed
- 37:21Speaker 1: this up very well. We are going to throw again
- 37:24Speaker 1: to TikToker JJ.
- 37:26Speaker 4: I honestly don't think there's anything that summarises the United
- 37:29Speaker 4: States better right now than Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey,
- 37:33Speaker 4: a billionaire and a millionaire, getting married in a stadium,
- 37:36Speaker 4: shutting down public infrastructure on the 4th of July weekend
- 37:39Speaker 4: during this administration. which they've been very, very quiet about,
- 37:43Speaker 4: around the 250th of the USA, surrounded by the elite
- 37:47Speaker 4: and by police. I honestly could not create a better
- 37:50Speaker 4: icon for the Hunger Games reality in which we live
- 37:53Speaker 4: if I tried. It's art. It is high art. Or rather,
- 37:56Speaker 4: it would be if it was being done in irony.
- 37:58Speaker 4: But it's not. It's being played totally straight. And that's
- 38:01Speaker 4: what's sending me. It is so dystopian. The just married
- 38:05Speaker 4: sign on the side of the venue. I was like,
- 38:08Speaker 4: this is a Black Mirror episode. This is also where
- 38:10Speaker 4: the literacy crisis kicks in because honestly, they could have
- 38:14Speaker 4: let them eat cake plastered on the side of that
- 38:16Speaker 4: venue and people would be like, oh, they're having cake.
- 38:20Speaker 4: They want us to have cake too. Let's go and
- 38:22Speaker 4: buy cake, Taylor's version.
- 38:24Speaker 1: As much as I hate to say it, he kind
- 38:26Speaker 1: of does have a point. Like some of the optics
- 38:28Speaker 1: of this, I don't know whether they were thought about
- 38:30Speaker 1: by her PR team. She probably had no idea that
- 38:33Speaker 1: the caterers were going to go handing out bits of
- 38:35Speaker 1: cake and pastries to everyone. And to be fair, this
- 38:37Speaker 1: man's holding a Danish. Maybe they didn't like the optics
- 38:40Speaker 1: of the caterers tossing out all the food in a
- 38:43Speaker 1: dumpster that could be visible. He'll go peasants. cake for everyone.
- 38:47Speaker 1: But the people that were standing out the front were
- 38:49Speaker 1: literally fans wearing wedding dresses. Like, can you imagine how
- 38:52Speaker 1: exciting it would have been to be given a piece
- 38:54Speaker 1: of dessert from the wedding? Because I was thinking I
- 38:57Speaker 1: would have held on to this piece. I would have
- 39:00Speaker 1: been like, you know, when people keep The fruitcake for years.
- 39:03Speaker 4: And years and years.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Yeah, they freeze it and they bring out a slice
- 39:05Speaker 1: on their anniversary. I would have had that Danish. It
- 39:07Speaker 1: would have been like in a museum or something. What
- 39:09Speaker 1: do you think about JJ saying that Taylor and Travis
- 39:13Speaker 1: perfectly sum up the state of the US at the moment?
- 39:16Speaker 1: I just think that people are hating on them for
- 39:18Speaker 1: the sake of hating on them.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Again, I am the biggest fan of Taylor Swift.
- 39:21Speaker 1: I absolutely love that woman. But he does make some
- 39:23Speaker 1: pretty good points about the fact that the wedding's on
- 39:26Speaker 1: July 4th weekend. Like everything is just so over the top.
- 39:30Speaker 1: patriotic optics but can people just like can we just
- 39:33Speaker 1: let taylor swift have a wedding like what we just
- 39:35Speaker 1: enjoy anything i saw steph claire smith getting a lot
- 39:38Speaker 1: of backlash after she posted a video sort of saying
- 39:41Speaker 1: look can we just let her enjoy her day like
- 39:43Speaker 1: people are just jealous I think it was the term,
- 39:46Speaker 1: you're just jealous. And while I think it is a
- 39:48Speaker 1: lot more complex in terms of the state of America
- 39:51Speaker 1: at the moment, all of these dystopian vibes, however, I
- 39:54Speaker 1: think what's leading to a lot of criticism from Taylor
- 39:57Speaker 1: Swift fans is the fact that everyone desperately wanted to
- 40:01Speaker 1: go to this wedding. And then when you see A-listers
- 40:03Speaker 1: like Brad Pitt and Hugh Grant and, you know, all
- 40:06Speaker 1: those people there, you're like, hang on. Taylor Swift, I
- 40:09Speaker 1: thought she was one of us. Well, this is a
- 40:11Speaker 1: very elite of the elite, isn't it?
- 40:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:12Speaker 1: She's not one of us. And then, you know, I mean,
- 40:15Speaker 1: obviously she's not, she's the biggest celebrity in the world.
- 40:17Speaker 1: And then people also think that they know better than
- 40:21Speaker 1: Taylor Swift. They go, oh no, we know her so
- 40:23Speaker 1: well that This isn't the wedding that she wanted, but
- 40:25Speaker 1: this is the wedding that she wanted because this is
- 40:27Speaker 1: the wedding that she put on. So let's respect it
- 40:29Speaker 1: and celebrate it. I also think it didn't help that
- 40:32Speaker 1: they actually affected the lives of so many New Yorkers though.
- 40:35Speaker 1: And the way that people use social media now, so
- 40:38Speaker 1: many people were able to air their grievances in real time.
- 40:41Speaker 1: And you kind of felt sorry for them because- You've
- 40:43Speaker 1: all been in a situation where you are in the
- 40:46Speaker 1: heat and you've been fucked over or like some inconvenient thing.
- 40:49Speaker 1: But don't you think it was that like FOMO thing
- 40:50Speaker 1: too that you're like, I'm sitting here sweltering. And all
- 40:54Speaker 1: these A-list celebrities are at this party that I would
- 40:57Speaker 1: give my left arm to go to. It's that social
- 40:59Speaker 1: thing where you think she's one of us. It's like
- 41:01Speaker 1: it couldn't be highlighted any further. You know, she's reached
- 41:03Speaker 1: billionaire status. She's the most successful female artist in history.
- 41:07Speaker 1: You know, she had all these people at a concert.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Like you couldn't have it any more obvious, but she
- 41:12Speaker 1: does it so well. It's a little bit like Molly May.
- 41:14Speaker 1: She plays that related with Lily Card so well. And
- 41:16Speaker 1: it's like, is this the final straw? Tree pain's like, fuck,
- 41:19Speaker 1: we're going to have to release some photos of our
- 41:20Speaker 1: cats or something at the ceremony to normalize it. All
- 41:23Speaker 1: I want to know is when are we getting the
- 41:24Speaker 1: photos because I'm hungry for them. And I mean, surely,
- 41:27Speaker 1: like it's not the typical case of where your photographer
- 41:29Speaker 1: not having time to edit up a couple of shots,
- 41:31Speaker 1: like fucking get onto it. Well, I've seen some theories
- 41:33Speaker 1: floating around online. that this was so public because it's
- 41:38Speaker 1: actually being filmed for a docu-series on Disney +. Do
- 41:42Speaker 1: you think that could be the case? Look, never say never.
- 41:45Speaker 1: I didn't think they were going to get married at
- 41:47Speaker 1: Madison Square Garden, so I have no idea what these
- 41:49Speaker 1: two are doing. I kind of would like to think not.
- 41:52Speaker 1: I think it's kind of, it's a private moment, but
- 41:55Speaker 1: there were a thousand people there. So who knows? Maybe
- 41:57Speaker 1: they will have the whole thing. I'm desperate to see
- 41:59Speaker 1: the vision. Is this the spinoff of, what was that?
- 42:02Speaker 1: Catching Kelsey? Is this the finale of it? I mean,
- 42:06Speaker 1: I actually think we could see something like that. I mean,
- 42:09Speaker 1: it would make more sense because at the moment I'm
- 42:11Speaker 1: still scratching my head. I still don't quite understand the
- 42:14Speaker 1: whole thing. I'm going to put it out there. I
- 42:15Speaker 1: am 90% sure that we are going to get a
- 42:18Speaker 1: docuseries on this wedding. Maybe that 70-year-old guy, maybe the
- 42:21Speaker 1: reason he put that on Twitter or X or whatever
- 42:23Speaker 1: is because he's going to be rolling out in cinemas. Potentially.
- 42:27Speaker 1: That's the Easter egg. They are the American royal family.
- 42:30Speaker 1: It's good enough for the Brits. It should be good
- 42:31Speaker 1: enough for Taylor and Travis. No, but this just reminds
- 42:34Speaker 1: me of the Kardashians' wedding. They do that. That is
- 42:37Speaker 1: crossing the line. That is tacky. Well, I think that's
- 42:39Speaker 1: where we're going to leave things for today. Thank you
- 42:40Speaker 1: so much for listening to this very special Taylor Swift
- 42:44Speaker 1: wedding edition of Outspoken, the podcast. If we don't get
- 42:47Speaker 1: these photos soon, I'm going to riot. Don't worry, next
- 42:49Speaker 1: week won't be all Taylor-focused, all about the photos. I'm
- 42:52Speaker 1: going to riot after the let them eat cake. Let
- 42:54Speaker 1: them eat cake. Don't you revolt. But yes, that is
- 42:57Speaker 1: all we have time for today. Thank you for joining us.
- 43:00Speaker 1: This episode was recorded on the traditional land of the
- 43:02Speaker 1: Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to
- 43:05Speaker 1: elders past and present.
