- 1:49Theresa: So can you take us back?
- 1:51Theresa: What is it?
- 1:52Theresa: Brooklyn, New York?
- 1:54Theresa: Where did it all start?
- 1:55Theresa: Give us a little bit of a background,'cause it's a fascinating story.
- 1:59Carol: Theresa, you're fabulous yourself.
- 2:06Carol: Aw.
- 2:06Carol: And what's crazy is I just physically got back from New York about a week ago.
- 2:10Carol: Oh,
- 2:10Theresa: no
- 2:10Carol: kidding.
- 2:11Carol: But if we go to that, that part, we'll really get off track, so I'll start.
- 2:14Carol: I was born In Brooklyn, New York-
- 2:17Theresa: Okay
- 2:18Carol: in a place called Brighton Beach.
- 2:20Theresa: Oh.
- 2:21Carol: And into a Jewish family, and in those days, I really thought the whole world was Jewish.
- 2:27Carol: Uh, I barely got out of high school.
- 2:29Carol: School wasn't my thing, but I loved walking that boardwalk in Brighton- Come on all the way to Coney Island to Nathan's Hot Dogs.
- 2:37Carol: Come on.
- 2:38Carol: I, I'd be a millionaire for every hot dog that I ate.
- 2:42Carol: I love it.
- 2:43Carol: And, um, and I grew up with three younger brothers.
- 2:46Theresa: Okay.
- 2:47Carol: And, um, I got married when I was, like, 19 to Jerry.
- 2:52Carol: We met on the beach.
- 2:53Carol: Okay.
- 2:54Carol: I married good as gold Jerry, and unfortunately, my friends who's listening, sometimes life is hard, Jerry.
- 3:01Theresa: Yeah.
- 3:02Theresa: Yes.
- 3:03Theresa: Yeah.
- 3:03Carol: And I, I, um, experienced life very young, very hard.
- 3:08Theresa: Okay.
- 3:09Carol: I'm not gonna get into all of that now, but- That's
- 3:11Theresa: fine
- 3:12Carol: but you know what I have right here, just in case you're curious?
- 3:16Carol: You see this, girl?
- 3:16Carol: There it
- 3:17Theresa: is.
- 3:18Carol: There it is, and that's me on the beach in San Diego now.
- 3:22Theresa: God.
- 3:23Carol: So it's I'm gonna say the title.
- 3:25Theresa: Say the title, Carol.
- 3:26Carol: I'm gonna say it because the title says it all, and the title is Jesus Jesus
- 3:38Theresa: Tamar
- 3:39Carol: Jesus
- 3:40Theresa: Ah.
- 3:42Carol: The life journey, I love you, of a Jewish girl Who came to know Jesus, the Messiah
- 3:48Theresa: And I will link it in the show notes,'cause you guys gotta get this.
- 3:52Theresa: So you're, you- here you are in Brooklyn, New York, and life is hard.
- 3:57Theresa: What was the turning point, as a Jewish girl, to find Jesus in the first place?
- 4:03Carol: Well, I left Brooklyn because by the time I was 24, I had had three sons.
- 4:09Carol: Okay.
- 4:11Carol: And two of them had
- 4:11Theresa: died.
- 4:11Theresa: Oh, I'm so sorry.
- 4:12Theresa: Wow.
- 4:13Carol: And my mother died at 44.
- 4:15Theresa: Oh.
- 4:15Carol: And so by the time I was 24, I had experienced- heavy, heavy loss.
- 4:21Theresa: Yes.
- 4:21Carol: And I told good as gold Jerry,"I'm leaving," going over the Verrazzano Bridge,'cause I just couldn't stay anymore.
- 4:28Carol: People would say,"Who's watching the baby, your mother?"
- 4:32Theresa: Oh.
- 4:32Carol: Oh.
- 4:32Carol: So I needed to leave.
- 4:34Carol: Yeah.
- 4:34Carol: And, um, to make a long story short, we were gonna go to Fort Lauderdale.
- 4:40Theresa: Right.
- 4:40Carol: And then I saw about a place called Ocala, Florida, in the middle of nowhere.
- 4:45Carol: I
- 4:45Theresa: know where that is.
- 4:46Carol: Right.
- 4:46Carol: It was You know where it is?
- 4:47Theresa: Yeah, I do.
- 4:49Carol: Horse country and ranches.
- 4:50Carol: Yeah.
- 4:50Carol: And we stopped there for a while.
- 4:53Carol: I divorced Jerry there for a while.
- 4:55Theresa: Okay.
- 4:56Carol: But the one thing I did do while I lived, um, in Ocala, divorced Jerry, was supposed to get married to someone else on a 500 acre ranch on seven And I see Oh, I'm not gonna tell this,'cause that's your secret.
- 5:11Carol: But on the ranch, uh, uh, the date of getting married was 7/7/77- Oh at 7:00.
- 5:20Theresa: Oh.
- 5:22Carol: So, but when he started beating me up-
- 5:24Theresa: Oh
- 5:24Carol: I figured, I don't think that's gonna be a good marriage either.
- 5:27Theresa: Yeah.
- 5:27Carol: So by this point, my first husband went to Fort Lauderdale from Ocala, and I went there with And I have one son, Eric- Okay my first son, who's doing well.
- 5:38Carol: Good.
- 5:38Carol: Did have a life-threatening accident in Ocala.
- 5:42Carol: Oh.
- 5:42Carol: That he's alive is a miracle, but I'm- Thank God not gonna get into that now.
- 5:46Theresa: Yeah.
- 5:47Carol: Praise the Lord.
- 5:48Carol: But I will say this, I never knew from Jesus, but my son was almost killed, and a pastor came to pray at this church in Ocala-
- 5:58Theresa: Okay
- 5:58Carol: for seven hours.
- 5:59Carol: Wow.
- 5:59Carol: And I do believe that's why my son is alive today at- Wow at 37 years old.
- 6:04Theresa: Yeah.
- 6:05Carol: So I hope people aren't getting confused.
- 6:07Carol: So anyway, I went and left Ocala, didn't marry that guy, and, um, stayed in But when I lived in Ocala on this ranch-
- 6:17Theresa: Yeah uh,
- 6:17Carol: I did go to beauty school.
- 6:19Carol: Because who's ever listening, we need to be able as women to take care of ourselves and not have the attitude when depending on a man to support us.
- 6:29Theresa: Okay.
- 6:29Carol: So we gotta make a living.
- 6:31Carol: I mean, you never know.
- 6:32Carol: You
- 6:32Theresa: know?
- 6:32Theresa: I gotcha.
- 6:34Carol: You got me.
- 6:35Carol: So I did go to beauty school, and I barely got a license, and I moved to Fort Lauderdale.
- 6:40Theresa: Okay.
- 6:41Carol: When I'm One thing I did do when I moved to, uh, Fort Lauderdale and Miami and that area, I asked,"Where's the most expensive haircut?"
- 6:50Theresa: Wow.
- 6:51Carol: And the most expensive haircut was in Miami Beach, and that was the year, um, Sassoon and precision cutting was coming out from London.
- 6:59Carol: Okay.
- 6:59Theresa: Okay.
- 7:00Carol: And, um, I went to that hair salon, and they had, um, people from, uh, London come and train the stylists.
- 7:09Carol: Okay.
- 7:09Carol: So it was a very advanced, very precision, very So to make a long story short, one of the managers of one of the salons, I became his shampoo assistant.
- 7:19Theresa: Okay.
- 7:20Carol: And I was stoned all the time.
- 7:22Carol: I have to tell the truth.
- 7:23Carol: And, um, and I'm standing there.
- 7:26Carol: I met the guy for the first time, and I asked him if he knew what he was doing.
- 7:33Theresa: Wow.
- 7:34Carol: I was.
- 7:34Carol: So he stopped what he was doing and looked at me and said,"Excuse me.
- 7:38Carol: Please stand there and be quiet."
- 7:40Theresa: Whoa.
- 7:42Carol: So anyway, this same guy who told me to be quiet, we wound up living together.
- 7:47Carol: So now getting to answering your question, how did this Jewish girl-
- 7:51Theresa: Yeah
- 7:52Carol: from Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, New York, come to know Jesus as her Messiah?
- 7:58Carol: Right.
- 7:59Carol: I'm so glad you asked.
- 7:59Carol: Boom.
- 8:00Carol: Christmas 1978.
- 8:03Theresa: Okay.
- 8:04Carol: Client gives me- A gift
- 8:07Theresa: Mm.
- 8:08Carol: And it's a Bible Oh.
- 8:10Carol: And she tells me to read the Book of John.
- 8:14Theresa: Okay.
- 8:16Carol: And so I'm living with my son Eric, who's about seven, and Lewis, my boyfriend, Lewis.
- 8:22Carol: And I sit down, I was gonna throw it away, but, but God-
- 8:26Theresa: But
- 8:27Carol: God I just sat down to read it.
- 8:28Carol: Okay.
- 8:29Carol: And growing up in the Jewish traditions, I love celebrating the Jewish holidays.
- 8:35Theresa: Mm,
- 8:36Carol: yes.
- 8:36Carol: And one of my most favorite is the Passover, growing up- Mm-hmm grandparents from Europe and that whole thing.
- 8:43Carol: And when I read that Jesus and his disciples were Jewish just like me, I went-
- 8:49Theresa: Yeah"Oh, this
- 8:49Carol: is pretty cool" Oh,
- 8:50Theresa: interesting.
- 8:51Theresa: Yeah.
- 8:51Theresa: Okay, yeah.
- 8:53Carol: But then I read Jesus said,"I am the way, the truth, and the life."
- 9:03Theresa: Mm.
- 9:03Carol: And no one comes to the Father except-" Except
- 9:07Theresa: through
- 9:07Carol: me"by me."
- 9:08Theresa: Wow.
- 9:10Carol: A- and because of that reading of the Book of John, almost 40 years later, I am sitting here telling you that story.
- 9:19Theresa: Yeah.
- 9:21Theresa: And Jesus is your, your friend, your savior.
- 9:26Theresa: Mm-hmm.
- 9:27Theresa: You got a relationship with him.
- 9:29Theresa: Wow.
- 9:30Theresa: So you, you went to San Diego.
- 9:33Theresa: What was that about?
- 9:35Carol: Good question.
- 9:36Carol: So here we are in Florida, and I realized it's a little hot and humid.
- 9:41Carol: And my-- Lewis and I traveled honestly to Switzerland and to go to school in London- Okay and hiking.
- 9:48Carol: Every And, and, and in Europe we keep hearing about San Diego, San Diego.
- 9:53Theresa: Okay.
- 9:54Carol: Wow, that sounds interesting.
- 9:56Carol: And so when we got off the plane in September of 1985, we decided let's check San Diego out.
- 10:04Carol: And in October of'85, it's quite a while ago, we flew in, got off the plane and said,"We're moving here."
- 10:12Theresa: Wow.
- 10:13Carol: Just by feeling the weather, the temperature.
- 10:14Theresa: Yeah.
- 10:15Carol: And I did, and I did love the mountains, the hillsides- Sure instead of flat.
- 10:21Carol: It's every state is beautiful, but it worked for us.
- 10:24Carol: And so in 1986 we got our hairdresser's license.
- 10:28Carol: Oh, one, one thing that happened in Florida, we were living together.
- 10:32Theresa: Right.
- 10:32Carol: And, um, someone who thought we were married, uh, found out we weren't and said,"I think you guys need to get married." Okay.
- 10:41Carol: And so we got married, and that's a whole story within itself.
- 10:44Carol: Yeah.
- 10:44Carol: So by the time we moved to San Diego, there was a working relationship with what the word of God says.
- 10:51Theresa: Wow.
- 10:53Theresa: And
- 10:53Carol: I had, and I even had a woman say to me-
- 10:56Theresa: Yeah
- 10:56Carol: give me a book, The Holiness of Matrimony,'cause I told her I was a Christian living with Lewis.
- 11:01Carol: Uh-huh.
- 11:02Carol: And she didn't go for that.
- 11:03Carol: Mm.
- 11:03Carol: And the next day I get this book, The Holiness of Matrimony.
- 11:06Carol: I read it and went, a light bulb went out.
- 11:09Carol: I called Lewis at work.
- 11:10Carol: Yeah.
- 11:10Carol: I said,"Get out of the bedroom, honey.
- 11:13Carol: We gotta change this whole setup."
- 11:15Theresa: Wow.
- 11:15Theresa: And
- 11:15Carol: that was really It's, it's not a quick thing.
- 11:18Carol: It's as God leads you, He's a patient God.
- 11:22Carol: Yeah.
- 11:23Carol: He's a loving God, and He just wants the best for us.
- 11:26Theresa: Amen.
- 11:27Carol: And so by the time we moved to San Diego, we had already an- established a relationship being obedient as best as we could in those times- Sure
- 11:37Theresa: to the Lord and
- 11:37Carol: God.
- 11:38Carol: Sure.
- 11:38Carol: And then, um, somebody invited me to a church called Horizon Christian Fellowship.
- 11:43Theresa: Oh my gosh.
- 11:44Theresa: I went.
- 11:45Theresa: If, if you guys- I've been to that, I've been to that church
- 11:47Carol: and you know Chuck Smith with the Jesus Revolution?
- 11:50Carol: Yeah.
- 11:50Carol: And there was a, there's a book and a movie out with Greg Laurie.
- 11:53Carol: Yeah.
- 11:54Carol: So I'm part of that whole world.
- 11:55Theresa: Yeah.
- 11:56Theresa: Yeah.
- 11:57Carol: And so it's like, I was just speaking to my best friend that I met at that church, it'll be 40 years-
- 12:02Theresa: Mm
- 12:03Carol: This coming September I started
- 12:05Theresa: Sweet.
- 12:06Theresa: So now what, how did the School of Ev- of Evangelism fit in?
- 12:10Theresa: Was it in San Diego?
- 12:12Theresa: Did you-
- 12:13Carol: Yes, Horizon School of Evangelism.
- 12:16Carol: Okay.
- 12:16Carol: They had a, a, a class that went on for two semesters.
- 12:20Carol: Okay.
- 12:20Carol: And, um, what's interesting, in my book, chapter four is called My Nervous Breakdown.
- 12:28Theresa: Mm.
- 12:29Carol: So I had become a Christian.
- 12:31Theresa: Yeah.
- 12:32Carol: And was studying the word, but life is life.
- 12:36Carol: Yeah.
- 12:36Carol: And one day my husband and I were walking in Shelter Island in San Diego.
- 12:41Carol: Okay.
- 12:43Carol: And he turned around, and I was in a fetal position in the grass.
- 12:45Carol: Oh,
- 12:45Theresa: wow.
- 12:46Theresa: So
- 12:46Carol: I had some issues that I What can I say?
- 12:50Carol: Out of that time, I was already helping women.
- 12:53Carol: I love women.
- 12:54Carol: I love communicating.
- 12:55Carol: I love being quiet.
- 12:57Carol: I love when the Holy Spirit does His thing.
- 12:59Theresa: Amen,
- 13:00Carol: girl.
- 13:00Carol: You know, you just show up and listen.
- 13:02Carol: Uh, and I knew that even through that dark, hard-
- 13:06Theresa: Yeah,
- 13:06Carol: yeah hard season, that I was growing to get a master's in, in human life.
- 13:13Carol: Mm.
- 13:13Carol: Without going to school, just by what I experienced.
- 13:14Carol: Sure,
- 13:15Theresa: sure.
- 13:16Carol: Back to the School of E.
- 13:17Carol: The purpose of the School of E happened right after I was doing better after a few years with this- Okay nervous breakdown.
- 13:25Theresa: Okay.
- 13:25Carol: And the purpose of the School of E was to equip you to go out, share the good news of the Lord, and have a ministry in li- in, in mind.
- 13:35Theresa: Right.
- 13:35Carol: And so I got a phone call from this mother and daughter that I had been helping, speaking.
- 13:41Carol: I don't I You know, I, I told my husband,"I don't know what I'm considered." So I think I'm What, if you wanted to give me a title, just call me a personality.
- 13:49Carol: You know what I mean?
- 13:50Carol: I'm not a big author, I'm not a big writer.
- 13:53Theresa: I love this.
- 13:54Carol: I'm not anything.
- 13:54Carol: I'm just a personality.
- 13:56Theresa: Personality.
- 13:56Theresa: Come on, girl.
- 13:58Carol: So, and so this mother calls while I'm praying.
- 14:01Carol: Yeah.
- 14:02Carol: I'm gonna cry.
- 14:02Carol: She says to me,"Carol, knowing you is a changing point in my life." Wow.
- 14:07Theresa: Oh, thank you, Jesus.
- 14:09Carol: And for her and her daughter.
- 14:11Theresa: Oh, beautiful.
- 14:12Carol: And I went I was taking a shower.
- 14:14Carol: I don't know why I hear stuff in the shower.
- 14:16Carol: I
- 14:16Theresa: don't know.
- 14:16Theresa: I do too, so you're not alone.
- 14:17Theresa: Do you
- 14:17Carol: really?
- 14:18Carol: All
- 14:18Theresa: right.
- 14:18Theresa: Yeah.
- 14:18Theresa: It's a great download place.
- 14:19Theresa: At least we know we're So
- 14:21Carol: anyway.
- 14:21Theresa: Yeah.
- 14:22Carol: Uh, and you're adorable.
- 14:24Carol: So anyway.
- 14:25Theresa: You
- 14:26Carol: are.
- 14:26Carol: The name that came to me was Changing Point-
- 14:29Theresa: Oh
- 14:29Carol: for a Life of Life.
- 14:31Carol: Jesus said,"I have come that they may have life." Yeah.
- 14:37Carol: "And that they may have it more abundantly.
- 14:39Carol: And Theresa, they are you." And they all meet
- 14:44Theresa: Yeah
- 14:45Carol: And out of that became a one-day, I got the goosebumps, a one-day seminar-
- 14:49Theresa: Okay
- 14:50Carol: of what the Lord showed me.
- 14:51Carol: Uh-huh.
- 14:51Carol: And then people would say,"Well, now what are we gonna do with all this stuff you're talking about?"
- 14:55Theresa: Oh.
- 14:56Carol: I said,"I don't know." Wow.
- 14:57Carol: And then I prayed again, and then I heard a six-week journey towards healing.
- 15:00Carol: Nice.
- 15:01Theresa: That's good.
- 15:01Carol: And that's what I did, and, um, and I became a very big nonprofit ministry that traveled around- Yeah to different places for many years.
- 15:11Carol: And now, you know, I'm This is a long time ago.
- 15:13Carol: It's not a nonprofit, but God told me about three years ago,"Get that workbook out of the closet.
- 15:20Carol: You're gonna do it again."
- 15:21Theresa: That's good.
- 15:22Theresa: That's brave.
- 15:22Theresa: And now I
- 15:22Carol: But I needed a new name, so the new name is A Deep Change, because even ladies and friends and men- Deep
- 15:28Theresa: Change
- 15:32Carol: We are a Christian, and we are walking with the Lord as best we can.
- 15:37Carol: Life is hard at times.
- 15:38Theresa: Yeah, sure it is.
- 15:39And,
- 15:40Carol: and, um, as much as I've grown, I felt I needed a deeper change.
- 15:45Carol: Mm-hmm.
- 15:45Carol: Not with what anyone could see, but within- Right my own head.
- 15:49Carol: Yeah.
- 15:50Carol: That mind- Sure drive us nuts.
- 15:52Carol: Yeah.
- 15:52Carol: And so I wanted a deeper relationship with the Lord, and behold, the scripture that came to me is,"I'm gonna do a new thing.
- 15:59Carol: Don't you know it?"
- 16:01Theresa: You may, man.
- 16:02Theresa: Come on
- 16:02Carol: now.
- 16:02Carol: Isaiah.
- 16:03Carol: And so that- Preach it so that became the new thing, and God brought me a woman, and she retyped it and made it.
- 16:10Carol: Okay.
- 16:10Carol: And now, and, and so, which brings me, I'm gonna come quickly,'cause we don't have all day, um, quickly to three years ago.
- 16:19Theresa: Okay.
- 16:19Carol: Doing this ministry for 30 years, every time I shared my testimony, people would say to me,"Carol, you need to write a book about your life." Yeah.
- 16:31Carol: And I'd go,"Right.
- 16:32Carol: I don't think so."
- 16:33Theresa: I understand.
- 16:34Carol: But on March 2023-
- 16:37Theresa: Okay
- 16:38Carol: I felt the Lord said,"Start writing."
- 16:40Theresa: Wow.
- 16:40Carol: And I put worship music on at night and started typing, and that's how this latest book, uh- Nice came about.
- 16:48Carol: And because of that, I got on Facebook.
- 16:51Carol: Yeah.
- 16:51Carol: I was not on Facebook.
- 16:52Theresa: Okay.
- 16:53Theresa: Okay.
- 16:53Carol: And I felt I had a purpose-
- 16:55Theresa: Yeah
- 16:56Carol: for people to get to know me.
- 16:57Theresa: Sure.
- 16:58Carol: And I stepped out on faith.
- 16:59Theresa: Yeah.
- 17:00Carol: And so that's a few years ago, and that's how we met.
- 17:02Carol: That's how I met- Right so many wonderful women- Yeah all over the world that have a heart.
- 17:08Theresa: Yeah.
- 17:09Carol: And, and we wanna love each other and- Right encourage each other on this side of heaven.
- 17:13Carol: And, uh-
- 17:14Theresa: So tell, tell me about Second Saturday Sisters.
- 17:18Carol: Ooh, I like you.
- 17:19Carol: You're a good plugger.
- 17:20Carol: Second Saturday Sisters is something I started about 10 years ago in my clubhouse.
- 17:26Carol: Nice.
- 17:26Carol: Really?
- 17:26Carol: Because I had a sound sensitivity, which I do, but it's much better.
- 17:30Carol: Okay.
- 17:30Carol: Where I didn't go out to church anymore- Sure'cause it's too noisy.
- 17:34Theresa: Yeah.
- 17:34Carol: And so I said,"Lord, I need something." Mm.
- 17:37Carol: And on second Saturday of the month, I picked someone to do a Bible study and do worship, but I had carpeting, and I could control the volume of the noise, and women came to that.
- 17:48Theresa: Wow.
- 17:48Carol: And then when COVID shut down the world, a lot of these friends moved to around the country from California.
- 17:54Theresa: Yeah.
- 17:54Carol: And another friend said,"You know, why don't you do it on Zoom?"
- 17:57Theresa: Yeah.
- 17:58Carol: The second Saturday- of every month, and the second Saturday of this month is coming up.
- 18:04Theresa: Ah.
- 18:04Carol: So if anybody's interested, please- Yeah figure out how to get in touch with me.
- 18:09Carol: I'd love to invite you.
- 18:10Theresa: Yeah.
- 18:11Carol: I have, I have Donna Luetken speaking, a great teacher, and her message is, Oh for the Love of God.
- 18:18Theresa: Mm.
- 18:18Carol: And so s- sweet women that have been teaching and serving the Lord.
- 18:21Carol: Yeah.
- 18:22Carol: That's- So that's second Saturday on Zoom for anybody.
- 18:25Carol: Um- That's
- 18:26Theresa: Now, what's the name of your ministry now?
- 18:29Carol: A deep change
- 18:30Theresa: It is a deep change.
- 18:31Theresa: Okay.
- 18:31Theresa: Yes.
- 18:31Theresa: It used to be something else, but now it's- 1844
- 18:34Carol: Revival
- 18:34Theresa: Yeah, okay.
- 18:35Theresa: I got that confused.
- 18:35Theresa: That's when
- 18:36Carol: it was non-profit.
- 18:37Carol: But when the Lord said do it again.
- 18:39Carol: But it's different now.
- 18:40Carol: I don't have the big team.
- 18:41Carol: It's word of mouth.
- 18:42Theresa: Yeah.
- 18:42Carol: And I've been doing it with women all over the country.
- 18:45Carol: Yeah.
- 18:45Carol: I don't charge.
- 18:46Theresa: Wow.
- 18:47Theresa: That's sweet.
- 18:47Theresa: It's just, you need a-
- 18:47Carol: That's very nice women, nah, people need a place to be.
- 18:52Theresa: Yeah.
- 18:53Carol: Where they feel they could be safe.
- 18:55Theresa: Sure.
- 18:55Carol: And they could come.
- 18:56Carol: That was my song years ago.
- 18:58Carol: Come just as you are.
- 18:59Theresa: Yeah.
- 19:00Carol: And, um, and see what God can do in your life.
- 19:03Carol: That's
- 19:03Theresa: good.
- 19:04Theresa: Really good.
- 19:05Carol: So I said- I
- 19:06Theresa: have a- Go ahead
- 19:06Carol: the only thing I know how to say in Spanish is this.
- 19:09Carol: Yeah.
- 19:09Carol: You ready?
- 19:10Theresa: Yeah.
- 19:11Carol: Siempre hay esperanza en Jesús.
- 19:16Carol: There is always hope.
- 19:19Theresa: Mm.
- 19:21Theresa: That's, that's just a beautiful, that's so beautiful.
- 19:24Theresa: Woo, girl.
- 19:27Theresa: I, I am kind of speechless because there is so much Your story has so many layers to it.
- 19:35Theresa: And you know what I see in each layer?
- 19:38Theresa: I see, I see God's glory.
- 19:40Theresa: I see a woman who found Jesus and made it work.
- 19:45Theresa: I mean, you're right, life is not easy, girl.
- 19:47Theresa: I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have a relationship with God.
- 19:50Theresa: I had 26 years of being married to a very abusive man.
- 19:55Theresa: And I didn't know what the na- it was narcissist about, but I found out.
- 19:59Theresa: So what you give me hope is the reality, and someone listening needs to hear this.
- 20:04Theresa: No matter how difficult life is, the reality of having a relationship with Jesus.
- 20:11Theresa: And that's what your life is exemplifying.
- 20:13Theresa: The, uh, and, uh, and you've had just as much hard stuff go on than anyone, maybe more.
- 20:19Theresa: But you got, you got joy, girl.
- 20:23Carol: I have the Lord, and what's interesting is I'm writing my second book now.
- 20:27Theresa: Okay, what's it called?
- 20:29Carol: You know, that it'll be the first that it's announced, so I'm going to say it right here and now.
- 20:34Theresa: Drum roll.
- 20:34Carol: Uh, all right.
- 20:36Carol: The name of my second book that I'm working on is Back to Brooklyn, Born Again.
- 20:42Theresa: Oh.
- 20:43Theresa: Oh, what a great title.
- 20:45Theresa: Oh, you're gonna have to, you're gonna have to email me when that gets released, girl.
- 20:49Carol: Yeah.
- 20:49Theresa: Yeah.
- 20:50Carol: And, and it started with Pastor Mike McIntosh, um, from the Calvary Chapels in Horizon.
- 20:57Carol: Yeah.
- 20:57Carol: The original pastor in his 80s.
- 20:59Carol: In 9/11 he went with 1,500 people, which it's gonna be the 25th anniversary.
- 21:05Theresa: Okay.
- 21:06Carol: And he, he has a heart for the country for prayer.
- 21:09Theresa: Yeah.
- 21:09Carol: And he has a United States prayer group.
- 21:12Carol: Okay.
- 21:13Carol: And he invited people to New York City 2026.
- 21:16Carol: Oh, okay.
- 21:17Carol: And when I saw that four months ago- Yeah and I saw New York City 2026-
- 21:22Theresa: Yeah
- 21:22Carol: what came to my mind immediately was Back to Brooklyn.
- 21:27Theresa: Yeah.
- 21:27Theresa: Um- Wow
- 21:29Carol: and I just got back-
- 21:30Theresa: Wow
- 21:31Carol: last week.
- 21:32Theresa: Yeah.
- 21:33Theresa: You know- Yeah uh, I'm very fascinated.
- 21:35Theresa: I was living in San Diego after I graduated from college, so that was probably'86,'87,'88.
- 21:44Theresa: But I went to Horizon.
- 21:47Theresa: Uh, yeah.
- 21:48Theresa: And, uh, great Bible teaching and, uh, then, you know, my life then
- 21:53Carol: was a- Where did you go, where did you go to college?
- 21:55Theresa: I went, I was All-American at the University of New Mexico golfer, then I turned pro.
- 22:00Theresa: And when I lived in San Diego, I was just starting on the mini tours, and I, I wa- I was hunger, hungry for a church, and I found Horizon.
- 22:09Theresa: And as long as I was in that area- Get out of town.
- 22:12Theresa: Got, got baptized- And it was, the sea was- in the ocean.
- 22:15Theresa: I thought, oh, I've already been baptized.
- 22:17Theresa: I got baptized in the ocean there.
- 22:19Theresa: So I have great memories.
- 22:20Theresa: Get out
- 22:20Carol: of town.
- 22:21Theresa: Yeah, San Diego.
- 22:22Theresa: '86?
- 22:23Theresa: '86, yeah.
- 22:24Theresa: I, I turned pro, and I eventually started traveling so I never really came back.
- 22:29Theresa: But, um, good memories.
- 22:31Theresa: Get out.
- 22:31Theresa: Yeah, when you came back- I'm trying to think of the pastor's name.
- 22:35Theresa: I can't remember it, but I know- Mike McIntosh.
- 22:38Theresa: Say again?
- 22:39Carol: Mike...
- 22:39Carol: Well, he, you know, he traveled a lot.
- 22:41Carol: He's really an evangelist, but he had other pastors.
- 22:44Theresa: Say the name again.
- 22:46Carol: Mike McIntosh.
- 22:46Carol: Yeah.
- 22:47Carol: Mike McIntosh is the head, uh, is the head pastor.
- 22:49Carol: Yeah, that
- 22:50Theresa: sounds-
- 22:50Carol: But they have had other pastors.
- 22:52Carol: I started in, there in about'88.
- 22:54Theresa: That's just
- 22:55Carol: amazing'68, whatever.
- 22:56Carol: I-
- 22:57Theresa: I love it.
- 22:58Theresa: But, you know, I love to hear that because sometimes I lose, I'm gonna be vulnerable, sometimes I lose faith in church because of religion.
- 23:08Theresa: I just- I get it.
- 23:09Theresa: I get it the control and r- and, you know, this day and age when they're revealing all these, you know, scandals and stuff, I'm just like, God, I don't, I, I desire community.
- 23:18Theresa: That's why I'm so excited about your Second Saturday Sisters.
- 23:21Theresa: I think- Well, I hope you come.
- 23:23Theresa: Are you gonna come?
- 23:23Theresa: Okay.
- 23:23Theresa: I, I think, uh, if I'm not working.
- 23:26Theresa: It's
- 23:26Carol: 11:00 o'clock San Diego time.
- 23:28Carol: Where are you?
- 23:29Theresa: I'm in the Eastern Time.
- 23:30Theresa: I work on Saturdays.
- 23:31Theresa: I'm sorry.
- 23:31Theresa: I work at a r- I'm, I'm a part-time radio announcer, too.
- 23:35Theresa: But, uh, I'm g- I just believe- Oh this is what I believe.
- 23:39Theresa: Pete, someone, like you can throw a rock at me.
- 23:41Theresa: I just believe God thought of Zoom however many years ago.
- 23:46Theresa: Because if you think about it, my best friends live in Vancouver and Texas, but they're not far because of Zoom, you know?
- 23:53Theresa: And I just, the, the world's changing, but I think what's great about your story is there's so much hope.
- 23:59Theresa: I mean, your stories, uh, y- y- you know, you have more than one story, but I really believe that as we, as we share our stories, it's like Revelation, they overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony.
- 24:13Theresa: You'd think the blood of the lamb, that would be enough, but God says,"No, I want you to carry the story.
- 24:18Theresa: I want you to carry the testimony." And that's what I hear just coming out of you, girl.
- 24:23Theresa: It's so beautiful.
- 24:24Theresa: You
- 24:24Carol: know, at the end of the day- Yeah that's one of the chapters in my book.
- 24:28Carol: At the end of the day, it's not about anything, it's only about your relationship-
- 24:34Theresa: Yeah
- 24:35Carol: with God at the end of the day.
- 24:36Carol: Yeah.
- 24:36Carol: People will disappoint us.
- 24:38Carol: We will disappoint other people.
- 24:40Theresa: Yeah.
- 24:40Carol: But God is faithful.
- 24:42Theresa: So good.
- 24:43Theresa: So good.
- 24:43Theresa: So I, I have a feeling someone's listening right now, or watching, and they think, you're so anointed, so I'm, that's why I'm saying this.
- 24:50Theresa: They're thinking, how, how did she get through all that?
- 24:54Theresa: How, how did she start to write a book?
- 24:56Theresa: H- how did she do that?
- 24:58Theresa: Do you have, like, an answer for her?
- 25:04Carol: Jesus.
- 25:06Carol: Jesus Jesus
- 25:09Theresa: Such good
- 25:10Carol: And God brought me some wonderful women friends
- 25:15Theresa: Yes
- 25:15Carol: Cause I don't care what I look like on the outside, but I can be a little bit neurotic, believe it or not Yeah.
- 25:22Carol: You don't have, you don't have a nervous breakdown for nothing.
- 25:24Carol: Oh.
- 25:25Theresa: And so- You had good friends
- 25:28Carol: And, and that's what I, this is why I'm here.
- 25:31Theresa: Yeah.
- 25:31Carol: I am available for anyone and anybody.
- 25:34Carol: So good.
- 25:34Carol: I'm not gonna give my phone number out on, on this.
- 25:36Carol: Yeah But you can contact Carol Holzapfel on Facebook if you're on, or Theresa, and she can hook us up together
- 25:44Theresa: I, I will definitely leave the links.
- 25:46Theresa: You're also on, uh, Instagram@lovejoyhope3.
- 25:51Theresa: Little bit, yeah.
- 25:51Theresa: Yeah Uh, check her website out, frommyheart-2yours.org.
- 25:56Theresa: We'll put these in the show notes, too.
- 25:59Theresa: And you'll have to, uh, give me the details about the Second Saturday Sisters so I can include that.
- 26:05Theresa: 'Cause you know what?
- 26:06Theresa: When it's all said and done, people are hungry for friends.
- 26:09Theresa: Hungry.
- 26:09Theresa: They're
- 26:09Carol: hungry- I'm
- 26:10Theresa: hungry for the real thing, you know?
- 26:12Theresa: And I, I feel like a lot of my healing came after my husband passed and I got friends.
- 26:17Theresa: I didn't have to hide them.
- 26:18Theresa: And I think so much healing has come from being able to be me, but to have friends to, to, to walk up with you.
- 26:26Theresa: And listen, listen.
- 26:27Theresa: Someone's listening and they're like,"Well, I don't have friends." Well, let me give you a testimony.
- 26:31Theresa: I prayed since 2018.
- 26:34Theresa: I was married, and any time I had a friend it was shooed away.
- 26:37Theresa: But I prayed, uh, Psalm 15 in the Passion translation.
- 26:41Theresa: I just prayed it and prayed it, believing God would do it.
- 26:44Theresa: Now, I'm sorry it had to take for him to die, but God answered everything of Psalm 15 in the Passion.
- 26:51Theresa: Friends who keep commitments.
- 26:53Theresa: They're not talking about friends in that chapter.
- 26:54Theresa: That was just a chapter that touched me.
- 26:56Theresa: So Carol, we need to encourage women.
- 27:00Theresa: They need to maybe get out of their comfort zone, even if they go to a Zoom Second Saturday Sisters,'cause we need each other in this day.
- 27:07Carol: Yep.
- 27:07Carol: That's why we're here.
- 27:08Theresa: Yeah.
- 27:09Theresa: Amen.
- 27:10Theresa: We're here.
- 27:10Theresa: That's right.
- 27:10Theresa: That's why we're sharing.
- 27:12Carol: And just to let you know that there's always hope in Jesus, and God loves you.
- 27:15Carol: Mm.
- 27:15Carol: And if Theresa, after everything we're sharing, and we still, that's what we have to offer.
- 27:21Carol: It's real.
- 27:22Carol: When I took, when I reached out in faith to take this trip to New York City,
- 27:27Theresa: Yeah
- 27:27Carol: I haven't traveled from San Diego to New York in over 20 years- Wow because of health issues.
- 27:33Theresa: Right.
- 27:33Theresa: So
- 27:33Carol: I had a list of reasons, listen to me, guys, of not to go.
- 27:39Carol: But because I felt God called me to go, I had a lot of people praying for me.
- 27:46Carol: Wow.
- 27:46Carol: I mean praying for me.
- 27:47Carol: I mean praying for me.
- 27:49Carol: Wow.
- 27:50Carol: And as a result of their prayers and me being obedient, I had the time of my life.
- 27:56Theresa: That's great.
- 27:57Carol: You know, back on Coney Island eating those naked hotdogs.
- 27:59Carol: Oh.
- 28:00Carol: Yeah.
- 28:00Carol: In the Bronx, I even went to Yankee Stadium.
- 28:03Theresa: Oh,
- 28:04Carol: wow.
- 28:04Carol: But we went to pray with the people.
- 28:06Theresa: And tell them
- 28:07Carol: about Jesus
- 28:08Theresa: So good.
- 28:09Theresa: So good.
- 28:10Theresa: Well, please, y'all, I'm gonna, I'm gonna link her book Y'all- Yeah, I'm Southern, sorry.
- 28:16Theresa: Y'all go get her book.
- 28:18Theresa: Uh, find her on her, her website.
- 28:22Theresa: I'm gonna d- I'm gonna do, I'm gonna have this in the show notes, so you just scroll on down.
- 28:26Theresa: Carol, such a joy.
- 28:27Theresa: You just really just warm my heart.
- 28:30Theresa: Thank you so much for being you, and being just a precious, anointed woman of God.
- 28:36Theresa: I really appreciate you.
- 28:38Carol: Theresa, back to you, my
- 28:41Theresa: friend.
- 28:41Theresa: Thank you.
- 28:42Carol: You're sweet.
- 28:43Theresa: All right.
- 28:43Theresa: That is today, today's Calling Table session with Carol Holczak.
- 28:48Theresa: Now, listen, do two things.
- 28:50Theresa: Follow her.
- 28:51Theresa: Go down to the show notes, say hey to her.
- 28:55Theresa: Get her book, and then I want you to do something.
- 28:57Theresa: I want you to share this episode with a woman who came to mind while you were listening.
- 29:04Theresa: Some stories are not for scrolling past.
- 29:07Theresa: This is definitely one of them.
- 29:09Theresa: All right, I'm Theresa Croft for the Stuck No More Voices podcast.
- 29:12Theresa: I'll talk to you in the next episode.
