- 0:24Well, hey guys, good evening, it is John
- 0:26C.
- 0:26Morley here, Zero Entrepreneur.
- 0:28A little bit crazy this last week or
- 0:30so.
- 0:31Happy holidays to everyone, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa,
- 0:35Happy Hanukkah, whatever you celebrate.
- 0:37I really do hope you're having a great
- 0:38time with friends and family and creating some
- 0:40amazing memories.
- 0:42So this is Saturday, which means we start
- 0:44with a brand new master topic, but a
- 0:45little bit of a pivot this week, which
- 0:47is different than what we normally do.
- 0:49You know, because the new year falls on
- 0:53Thursday, which is next week, we can't really
- 0:57have a series, I thought about this, that
- 1:00goes all the way through the week.
- 1:02So what we have to do is do
- 1:04one series basically that just does, I'm going
- 1:07to say now through Wednesday and then another
- 1:11series that just does Thursday and Friday.
- 1:14Okay.
- 1:14I know a little crazy, but that's how
- 1:16we're doing it because this is still in
- 1:18series four and that's going to be in
- 1:20series five.
- 1:22Okay.
- 1:22All right, guys.
- 1:23So welcome to Inspirations for Your Life.
- 1:25I am your host, John C.
- 1:28Morley here, Zero Entrepreneur.
- 1:29It's always a privilege.
- 1:30It's a pleasure and honor to be with
- 1:31you every single time that I'm on the
- 1:32air.
- 1:33I do want to thank all of our
- 1:34partners.
- 1:35I want to thank BronxNet, I want to
- 1:37thank Oakland TV, I want to thank many
- 1:39of the other small channels as well that
- 1:41are carrying our program, the PR Network and
- 1:44many other places that are carrying our program.
- 1:47I really do appreciate that and having over
- 1:50175,000 listeners and followers really means a
- 1:54lot to me.
- 1:55I'd love to double that this coming year,
- 1:572026, but I need your help.
- 1:59All right.
- 1:59So you guys know that I'm for real,
- 2:01I've been on the air for four years
- 2:02and now I'll be on the air going
- 2:03my starting my fifth year.
- 2:05So that's really a big accomplishment for the
- 2:07Inspirations for Your Life show and not just
- 2:09IFYL, also the other shows that I run
- 2:11as well.
- 2:12So again, I want to take the opportunity
- 2:13to say welcome.
- 2:15If you're very first time coming here, I
- 2:16definitely want to say welcome.
- 2:18And I want to say thank you to
- 2:20you because if it wasn't for you, we
- 2:23wouldn't have a show.
- 2:24So thank you very much for coming out
- 2:26and for watching the show.
- 2:27Really do appreciate that.
- 2:28Some are watching us live, some are watching
- 2:30us later on.
- 2:31It doesn't really matter.
- 2:32I'm just so grateful that you are here.
- 2:34By the way, if you have been here
- 2:36before, I want to say welcome back.
- 2:38Thank you so much for being here and
- 2:39coming back to the show.
- 2:41Also do want to thank all those great
- 2:44people from World Podcast that refer us to
- 2:47their audience for shows that they recommend.
- 2:50I really do appreciate that from the bottom
- 2:52of my heart.
- 2:53I'm so humbled for all the people that
- 2:54love particular shows and that they choose that
- 2:59actually resonate with them.
- 2:59That means so much to me.
- 3:02All right, guys.
- 3:03So if you have not checked out BelieveMeAchieved
- 3:05.com, what are you waiting for?
- 3:07Go check that out right after the show.
- 3:09Now, not now, but I said after the
- 3:11show.
- 3:11By the way, it's available 24 hours a
- 3:14day, and you can do that right after
- 3:16the show.
- 3:17So this is, yes, series four, and it's
- 3:21show basically 53, episode one.
- 3:25But I told you it's going to be
- 3:25a little crazy because of the way the
- 3:28New Year's falls, and I want to make
- 3:29sure that our series five starts clean.
- 3:32That's why I did it this way.
- 3:34All right, guys.
- 3:34If you're hungry, if you're thirsty, you're parched,
- 3:37I don't want you to pass out here.
- 3:39So make sure you get something, whether it's
- 3:42healthy, whether it's a fruit, whether it's candy,
- 3:44whether it's snacks, whether it's a juice, a
- 3:46drink, I don't care.
- 3:47Just go get it and come on back
- 3:49to the show.
- 3:51All right, guys.
- 3:52Without any further ado, I'm going to kick
- 3:53the show off.
- 3:54All right.
- 3:54So welcome, everyone.
- 3:56Yes.
- 3:56To the ever popular Inspirations for Your Life
- 4:00show.
- 4:00That's another uplifting episode here of the show
- 4:03of you guys know so well, the Daily
- 4:05Motivational Show that helps you and many others
- 4:08become the best version of ourselves every single
- 4:11day.
- 4:12Now, I am your host.
- 4:13In case you didn't know, I'm John C.
- 4:14Morley, serial entrepreneur.
- 4:16By the way, today is December 27, 2025.
- 4:19It is a Saturday, which, again, as I
- 4:21said, we normally start off a brand new
- 4:22master topic, which we're doing, and we usually
- 4:25go Saturday to Friday.
- 4:26But because of New Year's, I decided that
- 4:28we're just going to include this through Wednesday.
- 4:31And then we're going to start just a
- 4:33small show segment on Thursday and Friday and
- 4:37Saturday.
- 4:37We'll start another segment.
- 4:38It just makes it a lot cleaner.
- 4:40All right, guys.
- 4:41So not only am I a serial entrepreneur,
- 4:43I'm also a I'm also the engineer, marketing
- 4:47specialist, video producer, podcast host, a coach, a
- 4:52graduate student, and yes, a passionate lifelong learner.
- 4:55And you know that from watching and following
- 4:58me for so long.
- 5:00Learning is my passion.
- 5:02People say to me, John, you know, you
- 5:03should check yourself in the hospital because you
- 5:04just learn so much.
- 5:06I enjoy learning, right?
- 5:07Is that a crime?
- 5:08I mean, I really love learning.
- 5:10I'm probably going to live and earn and
- 5:12probably educate myself every single day of my
- 5:15life.
- 5:16So today's motivation is simply interesting because it's
- 5:22powerful.
- 5:23And here it is.
- 5:24You don't have to fix their whole life.
- 5:27Just show you care today.
- 5:30That's a very, very powerful statement, guys.
- 5:33And I think it's one that a lot
- 5:35of times I think Hallmark and the stores
- 5:37get wrong, right?
- 5:39We often get so caught up in our
- 5:41busy lives and worlds, chasing success and balancing
- 5:45responsibilities that we forget one simple truth.
- 5:48You know what that is?
- 5:50Our parents, because they don't necessarily need us
- 5:52to solve their problems.
- 5:54They just need to feel seen, valued, and
- 5:57loved.
- 5:57So today I'm sharing 30 ways to show
- 6:00up for your parents.
- 6:02Actions that take just minutes, but can strengthen
- 6:06bonds for a lifetime.
- 6:08So guys, let's get started.
- 6:09Number one, text your parent one specific thank
- 6:13you.
- 6:13Now maybe they're not in the grouping to
- 6:16want to text back.
- 6:17That's okay.
- 6:17But they still can read your text.
- 6:20Nine out of 10 parents can actually read
- 6:22text very easily.
- 6:24Seven out of 10 parents actually can not
- 6:26only read text, but actually can text back.
- 6:29So yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 6:32A thank you for today.
- 6:34A thank you for anything.
- 6:36Don't overthink it.
- 6:37Just send the message and say, thank you.
- 6:40Thank you for teaching me how to keep
- 6:41going.
- 6:42Keep on things and, you know, keep on
- 6:44with things, have tough days.
- 6:45That small moment of appreciation carries more heart,
- 6:49more character, than elaborate gift you ever could
- 6:52get.
- 6:53Okay.
- 6:53Number two, guys, call for three minutes.
- 6:57I know I call every day, but call
- 6:59for three minutes.
- 7:00I talk to some people and they've never
- 7:02called their parents.
- 7:03I mean, I think it's part of a
- 7:04custom you get into.
- 7:06Some people say, gee, I'll call them once
- 7:08a month.
- 7:09That's really terrible.
- 7:11I mean, my day starts, I pretty much
- 7:12call.
- 7:13I have some days that I have to
- 7:15do something and then I'll call, but I
- 7:16usually call by 12 o'clock unless something
- 7:18gets kind of crazy.
- 7:20Call for three minutes.
- 7:21If it runs longer, that's a bonus, right?
- 7:24We often assume calls have to be long.
- 7:27Well, guess what?
- 7:28They don't.
- 7:29A quick, hey, just wanted to check in
- 7:31and say hello, can be enough to make
- 7:34their day.
- 7:35Hey, my schedule is really crazy.
- 7:37I just want to call and see how
- 7:39you're doing, or I just wanted to wish
- 7:40you well today, or have a good day.
- 7:42That's all you need to do, all right?
- 7:44Number three, ask what's something you wish more
- 7:49people knew about your life.
- 7:52Now, that sounds like an oxymoronic question, but
- 7:55it's not.
- 7:56See, that question actually opens up a window
- 7:58into their world.
- 8:00You'll be surprised by what they share when
- 8:03you show a genuine curiosity.
- 8:05Now, we learned this from Dale Carnegie a
- 8:07long time ago.
- 8:08And he was somebody all about genuineness, right?
- 8:12And I said this when you build relationships,
- 8:14whether it's in business or personal, you need
- 8:17to become genuinely interested in the other person.
- 8:21Number four, guys, send an old photo and
- 8:24write, remember this day.
- 8:26Nostalgia is love's language.
- 8:29So recalling a shared memory can reunite warmth
- 8:33and closeness instantaneously.
- 8:36Number five, guys, ask for advice on one
- 8:40tiny thing, even if you know the answer
- 8:42to it.
- 8:42I don't really care.
- 8:44This signals respect and trust.
- 8:46It says your wisdom still matters to me.
- 8:49And I think that's something a lot of
- 8:50people sometimes get out of, whether they're out
- 8:52of school or something.
- 8:53So be kind.
- 8:54I know sometimes that might not be easy,
- 8:56but be kind.
- 8:57Number six, drop a quick, may home safe
- 9:01message.
- 9:02It's small.
- 9:03Maybe you don't say, I made it home
- 9:05safe.
- 9:05Maybe you just say, hey, I just got
- 9:07off the plane or, hey, I just got
- 9:09home.
- 9:09Maybe you don't use the word safe, but
- 9:10it's implied, OK?
- 9:12It's small, but it's a comfort.
- 9:14And you remind them that they're still part
- 9:17of your safety life and life.
- 9:19And that's important.
- 9:20Number seven, let them tell a story without
- 9:22correcting the details.
- 9:24Now, parents repeat stories because memories are their
- 9:28way of staying connected with their children and
- 9:31with people around them.
- 9:32So letting them have that moment in the
- 9:35spotlight honors their voice.
- 9:38Number eight, guys, ask them to teach you
- 9:41a recipe.
- 9:43And how about this?
- 9:44How about filming it?
- 9:45I know that sounds crazy.
- 9:47You're not just cooking, guys.
- 9:49You're capturing a legacy.
- 9:51One day that video will mean more than
- 9:54any amount of gold in the world.
- 9:56Number nine, offer help with one annoying tech
- 10:00thing.
- 10:00I'm an engineer, but maybe some of you
- 10:03are not tech people.
- 10:04You can obviously read up on the stuff
- 10:06that maybe you want to help them with,
- 10:07whether it's updating an app or setting up
- 10:10Wi-Fi.
- 10:11Those small acts can remove daily friction and
- 10:14show supportive patience.
- 10:15Maybe it's reprogramming their garage door opener because
- 10:18they got a new car and they had
- 10:20to erase all the codes from the rolling
- 10:22door opener and you had to add them
- 10:24in.
- 10:24And it's not a hard process, but it's
- 10:26time consuming, right?
- 10:27You can you have to get up on
- 10:28a ladder, OK?
- 10:29You hold the button down for so many
- 10:31seconds if you want to erase all the
- 10:32codes, if you want to put a new
- 10:34code in.
- 10:35Well, it's a little more challenging than that,
- 10:37because first thing what you have to do
- 10:38is you have to have the door opener.
- 10:40OK, so the door opener already is coded
- 10:41to the door.
- 10:42Now what you need to do is you
- 10:43need to be in the car.
- 10:44So it's best to have two people.
- 10:46I always want to be up on the
- 10:47ladder.
- 10:47That's the easiest part.
- 10:48And what I do is I take my
- 10:49hand, OK?
- 10:51And when I take my hand and go
- 10:54down, I'll explain this a little more.
- 10:55So first thing you want to do is
- 10:57you want to take the door opener, OK?
- 10:59And I know this is a tech show,
- 11:00but I want to just give you some
- 11:01advice.
- 11:01So you're going to take the door opener
- 11:02that you have.
- 11:03You're going to hold it pretty much very
- 11:06close to in front of the the home
- 11:09link that you have in your car.
- 11:10By the way, if you want to erase
- 11:11the codes of your home link, maybe there
- 11:13was something else programmed there accidentally.
- 11:15Just hold the two end buttons on a
- 11:16lot of home links.
- 11:17This is for most of them.
- 11:18Hold it for a few seconds.
- 11:19It'll go bleep, bleep, bleep, and then it'll
- 11:21be cleared out.
- 11:22So now you can take the opener.
- 11:23You hold it there.
- 11:24And what you're doing is you're going to
- 11:26press the button down and you're going to
- 11:28press the one you want to program it
- 11:29to.
- 11:30When you see the button on the home
- 11:32link actually changing ability to blink or go
- 11:35solid, when that happens, that indication changes.
- 11:38It can either go solid or some will
- 11:39go will start blinking flat fast.
- 11:42That means that you have programmed the home
- 11:44link.
- 11:44But wait, you're not done yet.
- 11:46That just means that you programmed the home,
- 11:49the door opener in the home link.
- 11:52So it's ready to work.
- 11:53Not quite.
- 11:54So door openers don't just work like that.
- 11:56They're rolling codes.
- 11:58So now we have to program that device
- 12:00into the actual opener.
- 12:02So now we're done with the door opener
- 12:04that we use to get the first part
- 12:06done.
- 12:07So now what I do is I get
- 12:08up on a ladder.
- 12:09All the codes are all good.
- 12:10I just want to add this brand new
- 12:11car.
- 12:12Right.
- 12:12So what I do is I take my
- 12:13hand and I leave it up like this.
- 12:15OK, when I go and put my hand
- 12:17down like this, that's their key to press
- 12:19the button.
- 12:20All right.
- 12:21Pretty easy to do.
- 12:22Right.
- 12:23Again, so hands up here.
- 12:25When I go down, just press the button.
- 12:27And then if I go back up, release.
- 12:29Right.
- 12:31So you could do it another way, too.
- 12:34You could say when I raise my hand,
- 12:36press the button and then drop it and
- 12:39then release the button.
- 12:40So that probably works better.
- 12:41So raise your hand.
- 12:42When I raise my hand, press the button
- 12:43off the screen.
- 12:44Drop your hand.
- 12:46And that's when I go ahead and I
- 12:48press the button.
- 12:49So so when when I go ahead, basically
- 12:52here and I start up here and I
- 12:54drop it, as soon as I drop my
- 12:56hand, as soon as I I as soon
- 12:59as my hand drops, I press the button
- 13:00on the open on the back of the
- 13:01controller.
- 13:02The code gets taken.
- 13:03I see the light changing.
- 13:04And then when I change the position.
- 13:06So again, I'm here.
- 13:07So as soon as I raise my hand,
- 13:09press it.
- 13:10And then when I drop, that's when they
- 13:11need to release the button.
- 13:12OK, that's important.
- 13:13And now you program your door opener.
- 13:15And that's not a hard process and you
- 13:17could do it for free.
- 13:18But if you call the door opener, they
- 13:19probably charge a hundred, one hundred fifty, one
- 13:21hundred sixty dollars.
- 13:21And if you don't know how to do
- 13:22it, you could read up and do that
- 13:24step pretty easily.
- 13:25And it could save a lot of frustration
- 13:26and aggravation.
- 13:28Another good one is that they have a
- 13:29problem with a printer or Wi-Fi or
- 13:31something like that.
- 13:32You know, you can be a guiding light
- 13:34for that.
- 13:35Number ten, mail a handwritten note instead of
- 13:38sending another text.
- 13:42In a world, oh, overly proportioned with full
- 13:45screens, handwriting feels, well, a little more intimate.
- 13:49It's tactical.
- 13:52Love proves you took a moment for them.
- 13:54I still to this day send cards.
- 13:56You might say, John, why?
- 13:58I think there's still something nostalgic about sending
- 14:02a card.
- 14:02Now, you don't have to spend a fortune
- 14:03to go to the dollar store and get
- 14:04something.
- 14:04But what I do is I get my
- 14:06cards early and this way I'm ready.
- 14:08And it's not like I'm behind the eight
- 14:09ball and I have a schedule and it
- 14:11really feels good to send out those cards.
- 14:12You can put a personal note if you
- 14:14want.
- 14:15Number eleven, guys, ask what was your dream
- 14:18at my age?
- 14:20This may uncover a part of them you
- 14:22never knew.
- 14:23It bridges generations and reveals shared ambitions.
- 14:28Number twelve, guys, let them retell a classic
- 14:31story.
- 14:32Ask one new follow up question about it,
- 14:35but let them finish the story first.
- 14:37They'll glow when you lean in.
- 14:39It transforms a simple recollection into a deeper
- 14:42connection.
- 14:43And I think that's important.
- 14:44A lot of times teens and and kids,
- 14:47they all want to go ahead and speak
- 14:48about something.
- 14:49Why?
- 14:50Because they want to quick get the answer,
- 14:52but they're not really interested in someone's genuineness.
- 14:55So when you really show genuineness, people can
- 14:58tell that you actually give a darn, right?
- 15:00Number thirteen, say I see it differently, but
- 15:04I still care about you.
- 15:05So there's nothing wrong with that.
- 15:07I think something I learned after getting out
- 15:10of college, you know, you have to say
- 15:10I agree to disagree or I respect your
- 15:14decision and I see it a different way.
- 15:16And I think that's a challenging time for
- 15:19kids, their children and also for parents, because
- 15:22that's the point of them growing up, right?
- 15:25And it's OK to see things differently.
- 15:27They may not like that, but it is
- 15:30a part of growing up.
- 15:31All right.
- 15:33Agreeing to disagree is completely respectable.
- 15:35I like to say that I agree to
- 15:38disagree.
- 15:38It means I understand what you're saying, but
- 15:41I don't agree with what you're saying.
- 15:44So I agree with I agree that you're
- 15:46saying it, but I don't necessarily agree.
- 15:48So I agree to disagree.
- 15:50It's kind of cool.
- 15:50And it doesn't weaken guys love.
- 15:53It strengthens maturity.
- 15:55And I think when you can get past
- 15:57that point, I remember the first time I
- 15:58had a disagreement.
- 15:59It doesn't have to be nasty.
- 16:01It doesn't have to be messy.
- 16:02In fact, it shouldn't be.
- 16:03But the first time can feel a little
- 16:07daunting, as you know, like, how dare you
- 16:10like disagree with me?
- 16:11And you're allowed to disagree.
- 16:14All right.
- 16:15If you would say like, I don't know,
- 16:18you like chocolate popcorn and they like butter
- 16:21popcorn.
- 16:22It's OK.
- 16:23You know, the world's still going to go
- 16:24around because there's different likes.
- 16:26Right.
- 16:26You get my point.
- 16:27Number 14, send a song that reminds you
- 16:31of a good memory you've had together.
- 16:33Music can revive emotions.
- 16:35No words ever could.
- 16:38My great my great grandmother, my grandmother on
- 16:40my dad's side.
- 16:41We actually had a song.
- 16:43It was actually my grandmother's idea.
- 16:45We we we chose a song.
- 16:47It was called You Light Up My Life
- 16:48by Bette Midler.
- 16:49You probably know the song.
- 16:51So I'm not going to sing it, but
- 16:51I want to let you know that we
- 16:53picked the song and then we actually gave
- 16:55her a music box that actually plays that
- 16:57song.
- 16:58She's not alive anymore, but she always would
- 17:00say that I was the light of her
- 17:02life.
- 17:02And every time she heard that song playing,
- 17:05it made her feel younger.
- 17:08It made her feel just so like accepted
- 17:11and so really part of this world like
- 17:15she really belonged.
- 17:17Number 15, guys, ask how they're really feeling.
- 17:21Then stay quiet for 10 seconds and just
- 17:24shut up.
- 17:25That silence gives space for truth.
- 17:27Listening deeply is one of the purest forms
- 17:30of love you're ever going to have.
- 17:32I know it might be hard to keep
- 17:33your flap shut for even 20 seconds, even
- 17:3610 seconds.
- 17:38Try it.
- 17:38You can do it.
- 17:39Trust me.
- 17:40Number 16, share one of your week just
- 17:43to include them.
- 17:45That could be anything, but make sure you
- 17:47do that.
- 17:48You're saying you're still part of my story,
- 17:50and that's important for anybody.
- 17:53Number 17, ask for a childhood story you've
- 17:57never heard, and maybe you've heard tons of
- 18:00them, but maybe there's one that you have
- 18:01not heard of before.
- 18:03You might learn where your resilience or your
- 18:05humor actually came from.
- 18:08And this would be pretty remarkable to learn
- 18:09about.
- 18:10Number 18, offer to handle one errand they
- 18:12keep putting off.
- 18:15Pick up that prescription or drop off that
- 18:17package.
- 18:18A small burden lifted can make their day
- 18:22a lot easier.
- 18:24Number 19, guys, tell them one thing they
- 18:28did right that shaped you.
- 18:30This is pretty cool.
- 18:32Acknowledgement fuels their heart.
- 18:35We all need to hear we made a
- 18:38difference.
- 18:39I think it doesn't matter what age we
- 18:42are or what discipline we're in.
- 18:44Everybody wants to hear we made a difference,
- 18:46whether it's parents, whether it's teachers, National Teachers
- 18:49Day.
- 18:50Teachers and professors love to hear that they
- 18:52made a difference.
- 18:54Even your friend, when they say, you know,
- 18:56you made a difference, you held them like
- 18:57I had somebody the other day.
- 18:59I'm not going to mention the person's name,
- 19:01but I do want to say thank you
- 19:02to them.
- 19:03Starts with a K.
- 19:04And I want to say thank you, because
- 19:06apparently I was the inspiration before our show
- 19:11even got our full wheels yet.
- 19:13We were just getting on the air that
- 19:15I motivated this person to start their own
- 19:17channel for a disability type group, which was
- 19:20kind of cool.
- 19:21And just the other day, they made a
- 19:22comment in one of the shows saying, you
- 19:25know, it was John that actually motivated me
- 19:27to get my show started and going, and
- 19:29that was pretty amazing.
- 19:31And I'm very grateful for them for doing
- 19:32that.
- 19:33Number 20, guys, ask what's something you're proud
- 19:37of this year?
- 19:39OK, this invites them to celebrate themselves, something
- 19:43parents rarely do enough of, right?
- 19:47But they should do more of it.
- 19:49Number 21, show them one simple shortcut on
- 19:52their phone.
- 19:54It's not about tech.
- 19:55It's about empowerment.
- 19:58Sharing patience is an act of love.
- 20:00And a shortcut can be hard because you
- 20:03don't necessarily know which one they're going to
- 20:06use, but find one that you think they
- 20:09would use.
- 20:09Maybe something with their phone.
- 20:10Right.
- 20:10Something pretty cool.
- 20:13Number 22, send a selfie from your day
- 20:15with the caption thinking of you.
- 20:18Tiny moments of visibility can brighten an entire
- 20:21week.
- 20:21I know there's some clients that we text
- 20:25even on our commercial chat.
- 20:27And a lot of times I'll just send
- 20:28a smiling face and just saying, enjoy the
- 20:32rest of this day.
- 20:33It's another wonderful day.
- 20:35And some people say to me, hey, John,
- 20:37you know, thanks so much for the smile.
- 20:38Thanks so much for the positive gesture.
- 20:41And what it costs me nothing.
- 20:43OK.
- 20:44So these emojis that we send or these
- 20:47animated emojis can really brighten somebody's day, not
- 20:51just for the holiday.
- 20:52Number 23.
- 20:55Ask how you can make their week one
- 20:58percent easier.
- 20:59Now, that sounds crazy.
- 21:00You don't have to say one percent.
- 21:01You could just say a little bit easier.
- 21:03That number seems small, but the heart behind
- 21:07it is huge.
- 21:08It says, I see you and I care.
- 21:11And I think when we can make a
- 21:12sacrifice for ourselves to help somebody else, which
- 21:14is not always easy to do.
- 21:18We're going to feel good.
- 21:19They're going to feel good.
- 21:20And it's just another great way to keep
- 21:22building the bond.
- 21:24Number 24, guys, invite them to try a
- 21:27new place or activity together.
- 21:28I know a lot of times adults and
- 21:31parents, they don't necessarily want to try new
- 21:33things.
- 21:34They're stuck on the old restaurants.
- 21:36They're stuck on the same menu items for
- 21:37100 years, right?
- 21:38They don't want to try anything new.
- 21:40So I get it.
- 21:41So novelty can be a challenge.
- 21:43But novelty does fuel connection, laughter over new
- 21:47food or fun.
- 21:49And it can rewrite old patterns.
- 21:52So maybe the person doesn't want to try
- 21:53new food.
- 21:53Maybe you can just suggest a new type
- 21:55of drink or maybe it's getting them used
- 21:59to a certain type of water or maybe
- 22:01it's getting them used to a new appetizer.
- 22:04I know that might be hard or maybe
- 22:05just getting them used to a new daily
- 22:07routine.
- 22:08Right.
- 22:09OK.
- 22:10Number 25, guys.
- 22:11Let one small disagreement go without a lecture.
- 22:15You see, peace is sometimes the best gift.
- 22:20Silence chosen with love speaks volumes.
- 22:24And, you know, we a lot of times
- 22:26don't analyze why we're silent, but silence has
- 22:30a lot of great attributes and factors for
- 22:34us.
- 22:34One, when we're silent, we're able to listen
- 22:37better.
- 22:38We're able to show the other person that
- 22:40we actually give a darn about what they're
- 22:41saying enough to be quiet while they're talking.
- 22:45Number 26, thank them for something you only
- 22:48appreciate now.
- 22:50Gratitude delayed is still gratitude, right?
- 22:53And often more profound than you probably ever
- 22:56thought was possible.
- 22:59So these are all simple things to do.
- 23:02And the question you might say, John, is
- 23:03why don't people do it?
- 23:04Well, people think, well, they're too small, too
- 23:08young.
- 23:09I'm too old.
- 23:09It wouldn't matter.
- 23:10Stop judging what could be and give it
- 23:14a try.
- 23:15Right.
- 23:15Won't hurt.
- 23:16Number 27, ask about their best friend growing
- 23:19up and what they learned.
- 23:22You're going to gain a new understanding about
- 23:24their heart and their values.
- 23:26Number 28, guys, record a short voice note
- 23:30instead of typing your tone, your laughter.
- 23:35Those things comfort in ways text never can.
- 23:38So you might say, John, you know, you
- 23:39could use a text.
- 23:40It's great.
- 23:41But when somebody hears your voice, especially when
- 23:44I get a text like a starting text,
- 23:46hi, I understand you're concerned about this right
- 23:49now.
- 23:50I'm in a meeting at the moment.
- 23:52I understand the severity of it.
- 23:53I have it assigned to one of my
- 23:55members and I'll be getting back to you
- 23:57as soon as I finish this meeting, which
- 23:59will be in about 45 minutes.
- 24:00That puts somebody else off the defense.
- 24:03And then we'll say, hey, you know what
- 24:04person was busy, but they at least took
- 24:06a few seconds to send me a personal
- 24:08message.
- 24:09That's huge, guys.
- 24:11I think business today doesn't do this because
- 24:14they feel that those few seconds is going
- 24:16to take away the potential million dollars they
- 24:18can make.
- 24:19And that's really a sad thing.
- 24:21But sometimes companies cut back because they think
- 24:24we don't have time to be personal.
- 24:26I think we need to be more personal
- 24:27in our life.
- 24:28I think that's the problem.
- 24:29Things are getting too automated and we're losing
- 24:32the personal touch.
- 24:33We said there's problems.
- 24:34I mean, we've had kids that have taken
- 24:36their lives because of different text messages that
- 24:39went across, but and then chat systems that
- 24:41gave the wrong advice.
- 24:43I mean, come on, we need to get
- 24:45back into personal touch.
- 24:46I'm just being honest.
- 24:48Technology is great for information, but we never
- 24:50should make it be a replacement for human
- 24:53or personal touch.
- 24:54I don't know if you know this, but
- 24:55just being around somebody, even if not touching
- 24:57them, that whole bit of you being around
- 24:59them is considered personal touch just because of
- 25:03how close you are with the energy.
- 25:05All right, number twenty nine.
- 25:08Ask what's one thing you still want to
- 25:11experience in your life?
- 25:13Dream with them, remind them life isn't over.
- 25:16It's constantly evolving.
- 25:19Some people might feel that, you know, they
- 25:21haven't got to where they want.
- 25:23Maybe their kids can actually help them reach
- 25:26that goal.
- 25:26Maybe I mean, sometimes some goals are meant
- 25:29to be shared.
- 25:30They're meant to be worked out together.
- 25:32I mean, I think that's a powerful thing.
- 25:33All right.
- 25:34And number 30, guys, end the day with
- 25:37love you or I love you.
- 25:39Even if that's not your family's usual phrase,
- 25:43it might feel awkward at first.
- 25:45But words grow powerfully when spoken often.
- 25:49Let's love and let it become a habit.
- 25:52Maybe it's simply on a phone call.
- 25:53I love you.
- 25:54Do something like that.
- 25:55Now, when you consistently show up for your
- 25:58parents, OK, even.
- 26:01Through the simple, heartfelt gestures that I've shared
- 26:04with you here this evening, like these, you're
- 26:07going to build bridges that time can never
- 26:11erode.
- 26:12And I think that's the difference between working
- 26:15on a relationship long term and just doing
- 26:18something quick and fast for the moment, the
- 26:20quick and fast doesn't really have that much
- 26:24fuel to it.
- 26:25Somebody goes and buys an expensive gift.
- 26:27OK, great.
- 26:28Right.
- 26:28But that really doesn't come from the heart.
- 26:30It comes from the wallet.
- 26:32I mean, I know the thought they always
- 26:34say the idea, the thought.
- 26:36It's the thought that counts.
- 26:37Right.
- 26:37But we have to do a lot more
- 26:39than just give from our wallet.
- 26:42We have to give from our heart.
- 26:44OK, it's OK to give my wallet, too.
- 26:46But we need to give more heart.
- 26:48Remember, guys, love doesn't demand grand gestures or
- 26:52solutions.
- 26:53It doesn't.
- 26:54No grand gesture needed.
- 26:56Just daily signals that say, hey, I care
- 26:59about you today.
- 27:01And you might think that this is really
- 27:03wacky, but I'm encouraging you to please give
- 27:06this a try.
