Latest / Graymalkin Lane the podcast / Bonus Patreon Release: Bi-Beast! With Arturo Rojas and Steve Duda!
Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome back to the Graemolkin Lane Patreon where we get to talk about a character who don't often get to see the light of day in the way that perhaps they deserve.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_03]: Although I'm not quite sure tonight's character quite qualified we have to find the right place for.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_03]: for them.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to officially adopt they then pronouns for the bi-beast, because that's who we're here to talk about today.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_03]: This was an episode I proposed back in Pride Month.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_03]: And I invited two of my very favorite people to nerd out with to join me for this crazy weird conversation.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_03]: But we ended up postponing because I listened to one degree to come on and do should know, be sure.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_03]: So that was well worth the conversation.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_03]: But I finally glad we're getting around to the bi-beast for October.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_03]: I love this guy.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think they're so weird.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_03]: They make me so happy.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_03]: Let me welcome my two guests.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_03]: School brother number one, Arturo Rojas, and school brother number two, Steve Duda.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_03]: And you, they genuinely are school brothers in real life, everyone.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_03]: Let me help you both introduce yourselves.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_03]: Tell us your name and pronouns.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_03]: And what's your favorite thing about the babies?
- 1:03[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go Arturo first.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_05]: I'm Arduro, my pronouns are he, him, but I'm not pressed about it.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_05]: I am the second head, where am I the first head of the school brother?
- 1:14[SPEAKER_05]: I think I thought I was harder to do it.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_05]: We can argue about it.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_05]: We can swap.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_05]: I'd like to call bottom.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_05]: I'd like to call the bottom head because the top one is really where by beast gets kind of sketchy on the design.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_05]: Well, and the feet and the hands, and I'll put those as my answers for my favorite things about them.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_03]: The top head is a little farther from the body and the lower head's a little closer.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_05]: And the top had always looked much angrier and like the teeth are more like 10% more jock though.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_03]: The bottom head has a mouth as eyebrows, basically.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_03]: Like the top head's mouth is the eyebrows of the lower head, right?
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: We can establish that basically right away.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_03]: Let me also welcome Steve, I Steve.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_02]: Hello, it's me, Steve.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: My pronouns much like the bi-beast are they and them.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not much of a tap Archero, so we have to struggle.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: My favorite thing about the bibeast.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's there's a few things that are really great about the bibeast.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: Probably the best one is that he's not called the bibeast because he's got two heads.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's called the bibeast because there's two of him.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_03]: Well, and he's a raging bisexual.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, within the comics, nearly explicitly, a raging bisexual, I would say.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_03]: With this character instead of left-brain, right-brain, we get top-brain bottom-brain.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_03]: What would that mean for us humans?
- 2:40[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not quite sure.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we're already talking about.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, yes, yes.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_03]: The innuendo is very alive and well.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to expand on what a good bottom-brain was like.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for the record, our tour, and I are new at being Skull Brothers, we were previously muslims, but there's as Chad can tell, but the viewer and the listener unfortunately can't.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, oh, Stephen, I finally got to be in person recently.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_03]: Our tour, I look forward to the day.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_05]: One day inevitably.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_05]: So great.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_05]: I'm so jealous.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_05]: But we're off top.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_05]: We're off top.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_05]: But like, yeah, what I thought it happened, he goes like, What?
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I thought you would watch while I was like, I have to make this happen and I did.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, uh, I just recorded a Patreon on the character Sapna with your mutual friend, Ashalane, who said to tell you, well, hello, hello, and they love you.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, I was just thinking about Ash right before this recording, because of this recording, I guess, you know.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's so sweet.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_03]: Hi, Ash.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_03]: So we're going to jump.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_03]: Remember that time Wolverine for showed up in the incredible Hulk.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we're going to jump to that same era of incredible Hulk Hulk is jumping all over the place and having all kinds of crazy adventures and an incredible Hulk 169 and by the way, I know there's a one on the front we're doing the by beast and there's a 69 and that's where we're starting today we get to meet the by beast.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_03]: who is kind of like a Sesame Street character.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_03]: They're giving me big bird.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_03]: They're giving me snuffle up a guess.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_03]: And they're giving me that like two-headed monster that would put words together like, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, and they don't figure out how to talk to you guys.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_03]: Remember those guys?
- 4:20[SPEAKER_05]: Cause that's what I need to do.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_05]: They're very like Hannah Barbarra design like early 80s like Thunder.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I'm talking about?
- 4:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, there's like sound effects when they run and slow down and like there's little piano keys in the background out there.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_05]: Very that very also reminiscent of I mean, there's you know, you can pull up a bunch of different double heads But it's funny you mentioned most of the time it is a loved right situation like double trouble from him and two heads
- 4:47[SPEAKER_03]: I cannot think of a single other monster that has two heads stacked on top of each other if I'm honest.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: Is why would you do that?
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: So funny.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's like the centipede of having two heads.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_02]: You know, which head has to be the one that has to like flop up it and down when it opens his mouth.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_03]: Does the top, okay?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_03]: So the top head has eyes in a mouth.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_03]: So we've got optic nerves and an amount.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: Well, the characters are robot.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_03]: So that already answers the question.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_03]: I was going to start asking about like biological processes.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_03]: Like does the top head have an esophagus running through the bottom head's brain?
- 5:18[SPEAKER_03]: Like are they connected?
- 5:19[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, but now I'm thinking about it.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_03]: Like they probably just don't eat.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: Why would you make a robot in the shape of a man much less a man with two heads one on top of the other?
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's so weird and it's created by burn people, but it doesn't have wings.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_05]: It doesn't have any bird-like qualities.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_05]: I mean the feet are vaguely bird-like.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_05]: They're just weird.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_05]: It's so weird as design.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: story your knowledge and two heads, so that's crazy.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_05]: And as the speaking on behalf of the bottom head, I for sure would spend a most of my time trying to figure out how to just solve the second head.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_05]: Because the bottom head's fine, the bottom head is just, the other head is kind of like the avalanche.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so you're already doing the thing which in every in every like horror property ever or somebody tries to do this they get horrible revenge against them by the sauna right and you're just you're absolutely ready willingly walking into it.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_03]: So by the way, if we were to ever form the tri-veast, I would gladly be the top head for both of you.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just saying thank you.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: And what do you want to do with the top head?
- 6:24[SPEAKER_03]: I'm very fine at that position.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_03]: That would be justified.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_03]: So the by-beast, the by-beast canotically stands seven feet, six inches tall, but there have been times when he's grown up to the size of 20 feet.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_03]: He weighs 360 pounds, although at his upper size weighs 1,000 pounds.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_03]: This is the kind of stuff we had to figure out in the handbooks.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I did write the Bible's entry on the handbooks and also on the appendix.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_03]: So you can go and look them up if you like.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_03]: This is a character that I'm fond of.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, this guy's created by Steve Engelhardt and her trimpy.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_03]: He is a big,
- 6:53[SPEAKER_03]: old orange monster body with like huge three finger hands and like massive white claws on the tips of the huge like ham fingers.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_03]: He's got two-toed feet with like these massive white claws and again they're like very sausage toes like there's little black shorts with a silver belt and there's two heads stacked on top of each other like the top heads mouth ends over the brow of the other heads
- 7:16[SPEAKER_03]: eyes which just drool is an issue.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_03]: There's all kinds of things I want to ask except we just have to understand that this is not a biological creature so we're just going to let it be a weird design.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_03]: Each head seems to have its own brain and they are programmed differently and we open the book by the way when we when we start this book with a picture of Betty Ross inside as the heartbeat so this is a very monster-focused episode.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_03]: we love the heartbeat design as well.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_03]: And the only time I think we've ever really talked about these characters on my show is when we did a Patreon on the Red Raven, who is connected to the bird people who created the bybeasts.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_03]: So if you heard that one, this issue is called calamity in the clouds and it's a it's a little bit crazy.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_03]: Do you guys have additional thoughts on the design that are sparking for you before we jump into the content of the first issue?
- 8:03[SPEAKER_03]: I would like to
- 8:07[SPEAKER_05]: kind of terrible or non-sensical with the orchard.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_05]: He's an android doesn't look like an android.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_05]: Made by bird people doesn't look like a bird.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_05]: Doesn't have feathers, can't fly.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_05]: That's a closet that are vaguely avian, but you know what he's kind of giving me.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_03]: He's kind of giving me the abominable snowman from like the claymation root off a little bit.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's like that energy, but just a weird design.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know where it's giving me and I hope that this is I'm going to just head can in this.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_05]: Who did you say was your artist?
- 8:39[SPEAKER_05]: He'll hurt him for you.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_05]: Same fine.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_05]: I'm hoping that herb had either a young child or nephew or niece or some some child around that was hanging out.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_05]: And he said, I want you to design a monster.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_05]: because that's what it's giving.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_05]: Like crayon, grab, orange, purple, underwear, and this weird it's, and then he turned it into something cool, but it feels like that.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_05]: It feels like it was inspired by a kid's doodle.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: I love the absurdity of the Bibi's basic design, but I will say the moment I was assigned this episode.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: I started talking to my friend, our friend, Karen.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_03]: and yeah, front of the pod.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: We were just front front of me and also the pod.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: We were just like start in talking about how to redesign this thing because there's got to be something you do the heads.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_02]: I'll share with you what I was thinking, but I haven't drawn up a sketch yet because I've been really lazy.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to go right out of the gate and just say, you know what I want for my beast ultimately, he knows he needs the gentle guiding hand of death bird.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_05]: Wrap him into like, she arched, they'll get him with some plumage honey, get him some feathers, do him up, get him a nice little headdress, something.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_05]: That's what she made, make him like a
- 10:01[SPEAKER_03]: I love it.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_03]: This design is weird in the way that like Arnhem Zola's design is weird.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's really bizarre.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_03]: You won't forget it for sure.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_03]: Like Ruby Thursday kind of weird.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_03]: Like it's a character that you look and you're like, Huh, I didn't just for the listener.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_05]: So the hands are like, think night crawler, but with crazy claws.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_05]: The feet are also like night crawler with crazy claws.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_05]: Minus the back toe like the back toe.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_03]: Good way of putting it.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_03]: bird looking thing because it doesn't have the back toe.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_03]: So as we're reading through this, I want you guys just to take turns with school brothers.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to use my notes here and I'll provide some synopsies and here we go.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_03]: Here's the story of the Bible.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody you're going to have fun today in a moment of conflict or tornado picks up both the incredible Hulk.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_03]: and the harpy.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_03]: And like Wizard of Oz style, it dumps them in the city in the clouds on a place called Sky Island.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_03]: Now I have showed this on the show before, but back before I worked on the handbooks, I used to write a survivor fan fiction using Marvel characters on the comic boards and people would vote and that's what got my attention for the team that got me out of the handbooks eventually.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_03]: But one of my seasons I based on Sky Island, like that was the island that everybody was competing on and I used this full Marvel location with the bird people and everything.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm fond of this place
- 11:18[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, we get a full-page shot of this weird fuckin' monster who says, Yeah, I have the Vibes, stand where you are!
- 11:25[SPEAKER_04]: My skull, brother, and I did you welcome strangers.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_03]: And the heartbeat in the Hulk react the way that we all would, saying things like, Good Lord, and, huh?
- 11:36[SPEAKER_03]: They make both attack, and the Bible is very strong, and the two skulls are talking to each other through the fight, using words like impudence.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_03]: They're taking punches from the hook, they're getting harpy claws to the eyes, the Bible steals...
- 11:49[SPEAKER_03]: I'm really a wedge.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_03]: I brought you here for love.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_03]: but love turns easily tight.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_03]: So this robot teleported the heartbeat up to the island because it was lonely and wanted love.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_03]: That's adorable.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_03]: And Hulk says, ba, two heads talk to each other, but neither listens to Hulk.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_03]: And he also gives it by beast the nickname, uh, funny head.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_03]: So by beast bobs Hulk right on the head, like bunny food food style and like turns him back into Bruce Banner and they yell, this is a human.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: I have a wear of that skull brother.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_02]: I will question him.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: You there.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: I see you move.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_02]: You are not deceased.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: Who are you?
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: And how did you alter your form from that of the green being?
- 12:27[SPEAKER_03]: So they learned that Bruce Banner is a scientist and then they take him into a lab at full of machines and say, scientists, I am the final survivor of the race of bird people created by them in their laboratories.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_04]: as a repository for their accumulated wisdom when they saw their end was near.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_04]: In their time they had been great, dwelling upon this natural island, eight miles above the more primitive earth, but they were hidden in this eternal cloud, disdaining contact with any other beings, and their civilization decayed.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_04]: Ford the last and earthy and airplane crashed here, giving up the one survivor,
- 13:08[SPEAKER_04]: and they looked at him for salvation.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yet he turned against them, destroying their warrior class, and left them helpless.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_04]: The bird people gave me one little knowledge of warfare they retain.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_04]: and endowed my skull brother with their cultural wisdom, but the fools gave neither of us a comprehension of science to be fair, human, they expected the machines that provide us with air and other necessities to run forever so that this Android body and these Android brains would live forever.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_04]: as a perpetual monument to all they had been.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_04]: Unfortunately, that is not the case.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_04]: The machines are breaking down.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_04]: My skull brother trapped the winged woman because he'd long for a being like those who had fashioned us.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_04]: But if you can repair our machines, you are by far the better catch.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god, that was amazing.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, we'll talk.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_03]: So they sedate the Hulk and then banner works on the machine for a little while and the school brother says, Brother, I question your knowledge of tactics.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: What if the two of them should attempt to escape?
- 14:12[SPEAKER_04]: I question your knowledge of geography, brother.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_04]: We are eight miles high.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_04]: Where could they escape to?
- 14:18[SPEAKER_04]: The female even freed could not fly them both away in the thin air outside our island.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_04]: I suppose you are correct.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_03]: And then if things weren't weird enough, Motoc shows up everybody.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_03]: So we've got the Hawk, the Harpy, by Beast and Motoc, and somehow he's the weirdest one.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_03]: Convinces but by Beast, that banner and the Harpy are evil.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_03]: Also Motoc calls by Beast a double, they call them double-brained buffoons.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_03]: So the Bibi's goes over and checks on Banner, who's done something to the machines.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_03]: And they yell, Ratcha is Ratch, which awakens the Hulk and Mothok wants to claim Sky Island for aim and Bibi's just worried and yells.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: No, the bird people created both ourselves at the lab to live forever.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_03]: Our trust is on life, you'll never steal the land from us.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_03]: But Monok shoots babies just as he activates a defense system and then by these collapses and the island seemingly blows up the end of bybeased forever, except there'll be a second bybeased in a little while.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get there to admit it.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_03]: But this is a crazy introduction.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_03]: This is Barbara Rela.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_03]: This is like 1950's B-movie, bad animation, crazy cool costumes.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_03]: This is an ancient robot on an ancient civilization in the sky.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_03]: This is one of those weird fucking episodes of the Twilight Zone.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_03]: This is one of those bizarre ones.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_03]: What are your thoughts on just the vibes of this issue, you guys?
- 15:38[SPEAKER_03]: It's craziness.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: Extremely right now.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I'm, you know, I'm a sucker for a good clone story, so I'm happy to see a second by Beast.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry, opened up the first one on a just an image of that huge green harpy bed of your ass.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: That is just, that's beautiful.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_03]: I love that design.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's so stupid.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's so good like splash page and she's like, oh, so that's what we're doing in this one.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_03]: You both have delicious reading voices.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_03]: My word, Arturo that long monologue, that snook up on me.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_05]: That was, that was unrehears never read.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_05]: So my voice was giving out.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, come on, get through this.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_03]: Or that listeners are going to be so turned on.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_03]: They're like, well, what?
- 16:26[SPEAKER_03]: Bye, Beast.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_03]: So this guy, these heads argue with each other.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_03]: It's like this robot woke up one day and all its people were gone.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_03]: Go listen to the red raven episode if you want the details on what actually happened to the bird people who happened to be an offshoot of the inhumans with ties to World War II.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_03]: It's a weird story.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_03]: Red raven's super queer.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_03]: It's a bizarre, super man parallel.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_03]: But I'll let you listen to the episode.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_03]: Do I have to have moments from this very first issue that you wanted to point out that you loved or hated?
- 16:57[SPEAKER_02]: though the weirdness of the rest of the issue is interesting to me but nothing else other than to say that there's a lot of emotion going on in this and later we will hear a lot of statements about how as an android he feels no emotions.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_05]: I will I will just say I love that mode ox shows up I believe the expression is putting a hat on a hat like we were good we did we need another but because there was more ready ahead on the hat because there's two skulls so this is a hat
- 17:25[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, for real, aren't as old as the only one that's really missing at this point.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_03]: Did you guys ever watch American Horror Story, Freak Show, which, of course, that horror show, okay?
- 17:38[SPEAKER_03]: There's the two-headed woman in that, who's based off of a real life.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_03]: There was a woman who had two heads, two brains, so there are two people.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_03]: They just have a genetic deformity.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_03]: But one of them, like, dated one guy, and the other dated the other guy, so the other one always had to be present.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_03]: You can look it up.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's kind of an interesting story.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_03]: I haven't read it in a long time.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_03]: But by least, then the two skulls, like, one of them wants a girlfriend, and the other wants to do science.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_03]: It's like they're trying to like take over each other like go this way.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm going to go that way.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_03]: It's adorable.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's very notable that they didn't give them any knowledge of science that like it's so nuts that they're like, okay, all the war in this one, all the art and music and stuff over there.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's all there is.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_03]: One is like, let's learn science.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_03]: We don't know it.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_03]: We only know war and the other's like, no, let's look at pretty pictures of pretty girl monster.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_03]: things that interest me in life.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: So.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_03]: All right, we jump forward a few years.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_03]: The second by beast comes back in incredible Hulk 212 through 2016.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_03]: The art on this is beautiful.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_03]: The memories of the first by beast transfer to a second one.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_03]: So it's like a programming issue.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_03]: And it ends up in a capsule that shield finds because it's giving off like gamma radiation for some reason.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_03]: But no one knows what's in there for a few issues.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_03]: And then when it finally hatches on the
- 19:00[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah, I'm the American government system hooray.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_03]: So in 2015, we get to see the bi-beast in a new costume and it's just a pair of silver shorts instead of back ones.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_03]: So, okay, and then the the bi-beast yells, we are the bi-beast, bi-el survivor of a great inaction race.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: And by divine right of conquest, we claim this wondrous vessel of yours as our own from this moment forth.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: Your hell of carrier is our home.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_03]: So they want to rebuild Sky Island, oh, and also maybe destroy the Earth.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_03]: And when the Hulk attacks, Bibi's turns all of the shield weapons against him, then he activates nuclear bombs, and then he gets another sexy new costume.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_03]: This one's like a blue, strappy metal number.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_03]: That's my favorite.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, Bibi's went disco.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_03]: It makes me happy.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_03]: They call it an experimental battle vest, and it was designed by Tony Stark, and it's randomly perfectly fits by Beast and enhances their strength.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_03]: So there's a big punch fight, and they both land to the earth below, and we don't see by Beast for a little while, but this is a cute, another super silly epic adventure story.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: Arturo, what are your thoughts on by Beast's costume upgrades here?
- 20:03[SPEAKER_05]: I love it.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_05]: I love it.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_05]: This is definitely a huge upgrade from the first load, little per per per per per short.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, I love it 10 out of 10.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_05]: He's really just missing a good Kirby hat.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_05]: Like he could use some kind of a dormant up there, but I love that.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_05]: I love the opening.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know how it may be.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_03]: I want babies to get a cane and a, like, I give seen like young Frankenstein, right?
- 20:31[SPEAKER_03]: Like I want, I want babies to do like, putting on the ribs.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_03]: That's what I was.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, we're going to jump over to Thor 315 and 316 and on this cover we get to see a golden bybeast gripping Thor so sexually and there's men in the background that are dressed like condoms firing guns at them.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_03]: If you guys have not looked at this cover please do because it is a whole fever dream in gay porn.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_03]: We learned that the bybeasts washed up on an island and met the man beast and the man beast is a complicated character.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_03]: The man beast is a Satan standin basically to Adam Warlock who is the Messianic figure but the man beast is also the high evolutionary who like left his evolution gun too long on a wolf
- 21:15[SPEAKER_03]: so the wolf became hyper-evolved and super-intelligent.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_03]: And then he becomes this kind of like Hitler Satan figure to like Adam Warlock.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_03]: Weird, weird character.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe we'll talk about him sometime.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_03]: He's a really odd, deep dive into Marvel Crazy.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_03]: So the Bible meets the man-beast and they trade.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_03]: Man-beast takes by-beast scientific knowledge and then by-beast takes on man-beasts hate.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't really understand the story, but they start capturing sailors and ships
- 21:45[SPEAKER_03]: city and I feel like maybe this is by beasts like first romantic relationship.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_03]: Harpy wasn't interested, but they are very into the man beast.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_03]: I think they can do better.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_03]: So we here, we hear the by beasts yell our turtle.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_03]: If you'll go first here, we are the by beasts.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_04]: An Android body equipped with two Android brains.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_04]: I was immune with all the knowledge of warfare.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I was given cultural wisdom.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: We both, however, should have science and technology undreamed by humans.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_04]: The Indian race which created us as a repository of their civilization is now extinct.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_04]: And their city has been destroyed.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks to your race.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: We are all that remain the last legacy of a vanished people and we have built this city a new to take vengeance on those who cause the destruction of the original city and then I want to I want to break up musical number we bit this city get there's like there's guitars.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_03]: So Thor gets involved and then iron man and then man thing so we have by beast man beast and man thing all in the same And this is the cutest little thropile I've ever seen and by beast despite getting being super fucking strong like as strong as Thor He gets to tear a bus in half.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_03]: He still gets defeated in the end.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_03]: I know you guys have some thoughts on this one Did did I thought you get to look at the cover?
- 23:05[SPEAKER_03]: I was describing
- 23:05[SPEAKER_05]: the cover is the cover should be on the system shop.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_05]: Well, the cover is great.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_05]: listeners, so by beast, okay, it's kind of like a wrestling move is I guess how you were just a fight is.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_05]: But the way the positioning of four is clearly just pressed up right on by beast and it is it is fantastic.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_03]: And they are getting shot by so many condoms.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_05]: so many yeah those outfits what so yeah no the guys look like they're wearing condoms suits but there are guns all look like Dildo's and they have the little little helmets on little helmet heads
- 23:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, his, um, even though you have thoughts.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I, I like this issue a lot.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: I like the, the following issue is my favorite Bible issue, the one after this.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: But, uh, this one's pretty good.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_02]: All I, all I want to say is that, uh, Thor gets it a really good jab at it with the four two heads monster are not better than one when they're lacking a fighting heart, which is like an extremely wrestling ass thing to say.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: Um,
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: And by beast, all he has to offer is call like Iron Man, a hard one, just like Holkins or just a bunch of hard bodies.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's all heroic.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's very wrestling.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: And I think if the man beast and the bibeists were attacked team, they would have to be the bi man connection or something like that.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_03]: Man thing involved as well.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_05]: And we got to talk about just a momentary segue on the fact that they got man thing through as a name is just wonderful.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, man thing is come on.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_03]: We gotta talk about the character motivations for a moment.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_03]: First, it's I want a girlfriend, then if I need your science, then we have to preserve the island, but it blows up.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_03]: Then it's we're gonna take over shield and destroy the earth.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_03]: Then it's we're gonna have this like secret base with the man beast, like with a little romantic, getaway, domed city.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_03]: This character doesn't know what they want, ever.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it actually does drive me crazy that.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's constantly blaming everybody.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: He's always saying like, oh, I got to get my revenge on the whole.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I got to get my revenge on the human race for destroying my city and stuff.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's like motherfucker that was you.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: You did that.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: At best, you could say you could say MoDoc did it, right?
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: MoDoc is directly responsible for like shooting him dead and he pulls the lever and blows up the city.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_03]: But they are not programmed for self-interspections.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: Lies with them and they the buck stops there, man.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_02]: They got a straight note.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_05]: I just love it's definitely a sign of the of the times back then where every time you see by BC needs you know give me he gives you his elevator pitch here I am by be Simon and Lloyd like he just gives you a quick exposition.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: fine I just I just took a bunch of screenshots of the interactions between the manbeast and by and the by the bybeast because they are they really are like having a really rough relationship.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_02]: I just I just hear like there's these bybeast talking in manbeast and saying like yes you've made your way back to us many times in the past but we're not entirely pleased with the results of our law and alliance and I feel like there's like a whole relationship between these two
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not proving to.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just coming in on their breakup here.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: You mean the byproduct of our experiments?
- 26:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's nothing.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: You're just as strong as you ever were.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's just like it's a lover's quarrel.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: And man-beast has to convince bi-beast that the mutual benefits of their experiments far outweigh the bi-beast insignificant loss in size.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: Don't know what's going on there.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_02]: It happens to everybody though I hear.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: They're just like, I don't know, it's very interesting to me and I just I kept looking through it and it was very captivating there's like whole pages of the two of them arguing like really like passionately with each other and when you see like man beast or man beast talking about how he's only using bibis to get to counter us there's like this very lonesome panel of bibis talking alone in a swamp it's just very evocative of like
- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: you know, Alan Moore swam thing wondering lonely through the through the missed break-ups and then, you know, man, he's just that.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's a cue.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_03]: What are your thoughts on this relationship, Artura?
- 27:19[SPEAKER_05]: Project, you know, everyone has that first boyfriend that they lived with for that summer and it was like unofficial, but you essentially were living together.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_05]: And, you know, it all good things come to an end.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_03]: There's also a really fantastic, there's a fantastic image of Bobby's at the start of 316, where he's been like contained in a shell, but he bursts out of it, is like a ripping out of his, they're ripping out of their clothes, ready to go fight Iron Man, it's a really studying found-up too, actually, I really love it.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, good stuff.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, that's, I just wanted to highlight that very compelling relationship there between these two.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's very strange.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_03]: It's not good.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_03]: And then when he goes, when he breaks up with his boyfriend, he goes walking through the lonely woods and there's a, there's a lone man thing waiting to, to slap him around a little bit.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's every gay love story.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_03]: Also, he's just been doing their squads.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_03]: They're in these like blue shorts and they get, they've got booty in this issue too.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_03]: There.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_05]: It's got a wild artist went full in on that.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_03]: Unless you're into, unless you're into weird toes.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know, hey, this next one on the show a couple of times There's this a great Mark Greenwald three-parter in in Quasar where all of the aliens on the strangers planet get liberated And Mark Greenwald just took like 50 characters that were from all over the place that just hadn't been seen in forever Because they floated off into space or something
- 28:44[SPEAKER_03]: And by Beast is one of the characters that's been captured and then set free, and there's a big battle with Quasar and all the characters run away.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_03]: Craco is there too, by the way, as is Rocket Raccoon.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_03]: This is a crazy, it's a crazy few issues.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, we're going to jump to Incredible Hulk for 12, but this is still Peter David's run on Hulk.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_03]: These are the old issues that you could just read like in two minutes, because there's just a lot of words on the page.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_03]: The arts got pretty, but it's punchy 90s.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_03]: By Beast apparently got captured by the stranger again.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, so he steals an artifact from the stranger called, I'm not joking.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_03]: The family jewels.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_03]: He uses this artifact to escape to earth, so they left the man thing and then got the family jewels.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, and then they get involved in some Hulk family drama.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_03]: There's a fight with Doc Samson.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_03]: They meet She Hulk.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_03]: One skull brothers in love with her and the other is not.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_03]: They get into a fight with the Hulk as they go back and forth.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_03]: Stranger ends up setting the family jewels to explode, and says they will kill millions, but they, so the heroes save the day, and the bi-beast gets knocked out.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_03]: And that's kind of it for him, but this is another really fun issue.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_03]: I love it.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_03]: I had the hijinks for this character.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_05]: I just want to say the bit about one liking she hoped and one is really when the character started crystallizing to me.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_05]: So I think it's kind of like a like a Burton Ernie kind of situation with them where one is more organized and what is a little more chaotic.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_05]: One here is a little more gay.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_05]: The other one's a little more and that the war one I think is the one that's the the Oscar and the the cultural one is the Felix.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know the one the one is the one that's gay and loves the man beast and the other has a thing specifically for green women who are related to Bruce Bander That's their specific type Not wrong there
- 30:32[SPEAKER_05]: It's very, like, very, like just awful roommates trapped for over situation.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_03]: The Lord said the lower skull when they meet she hoax says, well, hello.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think we've been introduced, and she hoax rolls her eyes and goes, oh, Lord, not again.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: Which is amazing.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: I got to get essentially harassed by a villain.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_03]: And then right before the Hulk punches him, the Bibies, who's wearing the family jewels around their neck, says, we're the Bibies.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_03]: And we think you have a phenomenal set of, oh, because they get slammed in the stomach.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_03]: So the flirts was she Hulk are really fun here too.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: Later, later, she took a striking in.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_03]: It says, Bibies, huh?
- 31:11[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I have a couple of friends who are Bib, but you're not one of them, and the Bibies says, ah, but we'd like to be far more than a friend.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_03]: And the other source says, no, we wouldn't.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, we would.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_03]: She looks like says, I am so sick of every ugly creature in the entire known universe suddenly deciding he's madly and love with me.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_03]: We're not in love with you.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, we are.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_03]: She's magnificent.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_03]: Here it's again.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_03]: Like this is this is quality content right here later.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_03]: The Bible says, what's that scent you're wearing?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_03]: She looks as sweat and the other school brothers says, that's a grotesque.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_05]: The amount of shit she hulk has put up with over the years is really something astonishing.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_05]: Like from every every character in the more of what you don't versus, they'll listen.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, we're not done though.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_03]: The bybeased grabs her, tips are back in a dip on the street.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_03]: The first school brother says, let her go, are you out of your mind?
- 32:04[SPEAKER_03]: The other talking to she hulk says, believe me, sweet one.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_03]: Once you've had a double header, there's no going back.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_03]: This character with two skulls does sexual things.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_03]: That's the implication and the move is called the double header.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_03]: Look, buddy, as a lawyer, I should tell you this is coming dangerously close to sexual harassment as she hook.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_03]: What do you guys think the double header is?
- 32:29[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it sounds like he's given head to two people at once.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, perhaps...
- 32:32[SPEAKER_02]: two people of different genders.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_02]: But I kind of like to think that he just uses both on one in a way.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_05]: That's what I think it is.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_05]: That's what I took it on.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_05]: It's both on, yeah, that's why I see it.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: Get both.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_02]: How do you get both mouths together?
- 32:47[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe the man beast had two stackable penises.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, uh, makes sense to me.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_03]: So she, like, she hulk bugs bunnies by these now.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_03]: She, like, takes her top off and she's in her, like, pink bikini top.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_03]: And she's like, oh, I'd love to try on your family jewels.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_03]: Can I see them?
- 33:04[SPEAKER_03]: And the, the one that's in love with her says, well, I suppose it couldn't hurt to see how it looks on.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_03]: And the other yells, you numbs skull, brother.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_03]: She's trying to trick you.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_03]: Those jewels are affecting your mind.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_03]: They're closer to you and robbing you of the ability to think with anything except your glam.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_03]: But they punch she-hulk, one says, so you wish to play rough, and the other says, some women like it rough, and the first one says, oh, be quiet.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_03]: It is very Felix and Oscar now that I am thinking about it.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_03]: And ironically, there's a child who has a Felix the Cat toy, and by Beast picks up the toy and is holding it when he gets knocked out by a double punch from the Hulk and she-hulk, who then turn around and there's an entire truck full of Felix the Cat toys behind them.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm wondering if the odd couple reference is very clear here or not.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: It sounds kind of unsoldable.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_03]: Do we have a, I mean, she hooks the star player here for sure, right?
- 33:57[SPEAKER_03]: Always.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a lot of fun.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: Our people call it a tier another star player.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_03]: The, wow, this is the, the sexual dialogue.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_03]: I love when they lean into it a little bit.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_03]: The double header.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the, uh, you smell like sweat and the other's like gross.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_03]: I love that there's a gay skull and a straight skull.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_03]: That makes me happy.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_03]: Um, as a building here.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_03]: A covering covering three at once very quickly, we see that she'll excuse me, we see the bybeased very briefly in a Hulk battle in Savage Hulk 1.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_03]: In Nova, the volume three, number seven, there's a big thing on Sky Island, where bybeased is there and the bird people are back.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_03]: And then they show up again and defenders volume two, number six.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_03]: This is bybeased fighting Hulk, where there's like an evil cult on Sky Island.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_03]: And
- 34:36[SPEAKER_03]: there's an interdimensional rift that opens up and they just plug the island in the hole and then leave it there.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_03]: The defenders are like, they just plug the rift up with the whole island and then fly away.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_03]: We never know how like how the island got out of it.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's like the cork in the in the rift.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_03]: That's how that issue ends.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: Because that's how those three.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_05]: It's fine.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_03]: Don't worry about the quirk and then we jump to thing volume two number eight and it's brief, but we get a Bibi's versus squirrel girl battle.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_03]: They're fighting in central park.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_03]: We don't know why.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_03]: Do you guys want to give us their dialogue here?
- 35:08[SPEAKER_04]: My skull brother and I are twice your size twice as strong.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_04]: The ultimate two and one vote.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_04]: We have two sets of eyes for twice the vision.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_03]: who branched virtualizedless march.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_03]: It's squirrels, squirrel girl says, and two noses for twice the smelling.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_03]: And she orders her squirrels to gather all of the garbage in central park.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_03]: And then when it's stinky, both by beasts plug their noses with their two hands, which then leads them a defenseless, and the thing is able to knock them out with a punch.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_03]: That their noses, their two noses defeated them.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_05]: Stupid or brilliant.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_02]: that's so good.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't, there's nothing more like bucks bonding than making somebody hold his nose so that you could punch him in the face.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I'm going to run down the last of the, the appearances really quickly and then let's just buy it on this character for a few minutes.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_03]: There's a weird series called Beyond where the strangers pulling operatives to battle world and a bunch of people die.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_03]: We like to see a headstone for bybeast but we never see them in
- 36:18[SPEAKER_03]: There's a bunch of crazy supervillains who are all, this is a weird story.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_03]: They're all pulled down to Earth because of a wishing spell.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_03]: And then they all get to make a wish.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's like a giant artifact.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_03]: And by Beast tries turning Las Vegas into a new sky island.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_03]: And then he grows giant size and battles the Hulk and one of those white furry flesh eating creatures whose names start with a W, but we don't use that name on my show.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_03]: And they get to fight a bunch of monsters.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't know, by Beast,
- 36:45[SPEAKER_03]: wishes for a new sky island and then to be double-designed.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's their wishes.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_03]: That's the whole thing.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_03]: You guys, just look at the wish story.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, have read this.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's weird how I don't remember a lot about it.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's very inconsequential.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_05]: No, I will confess at this point.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_05]: I am relying solely on the notes.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_05]: At this point, we're just kind of free.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_05]: What is it?
- 37:08[SPEAKER_05]: Freeballing?
- 37:10[SPEAKER_03]: Freeballing.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_03]: As my beast also is if they have genitals.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_05]: We don't know.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_05]: So in secret of it, these bird people might have been on to something.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_03]: We see them in a couple of issues of secret Avengers where they've moved to to Bagalia, like the country that's all supervillains, and they join a big masters of evil there.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_03]: And they get possessed by a biss.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_03]: But it's like giant group shots of like a hundred people, by abuse doesn't really do much.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_03]: They're also briefly in a group called the Superior 16 in Superior Fos of Spider-Man, under the leadership of the owl.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to presume that that was not a high-time in Bibi's criminal career.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_03]: They also end up in Pleasant Hill.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_03]: That's the cosmic cube prison where everybody's mind was wiped.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_03]: We don't know what they're doing there.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_03]: Then at the make-fake funeral for squirrel girl, Bibi's just in the crowd crying for Doreen.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_03]: They also escape the raft and darkhold alpha number one and get defeated by Janet Van Dyne.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: And then the only X-Men connection for listeners, if you read X-Men annual four volume four number one, there's an X-Men fight by these detects Van Cover and the X-Men beat him up and it's like one panel.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_03]: But you did get it X-Men tie in.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_02]: I love when one of these like,
- 38:25[SPEAKER_02]: Classic guys from the 60s and 70s shows up to get defeated by the X-Men in one panel like protest and now by beast
- 38:33[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, by least in grotesque would be buddies.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_05]: They would, they would, and they would buy, they would buy him.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_02]: What are our thoughts on this character?
- 38:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'm thinking about writing an extensive fan fiction about this relation.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: Their relationship with the man beast.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's, it's gonna nag it.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_03]: Man beast is like the, like, I don't know.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_03]: We're going like 1950s almost.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_03]: I want to see by beast in like an apron, like baking cookies, but like man beast is off at the factory or the mine all day.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_03]: Right, he's a little bit of a common sense to talk to.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, he's a little toxic when he gets home.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_05]: He can get a little, a little surly.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_05]: And then, but he's always very sorry.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_05]: Afterwards, it's very toxic.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_03]: You can type these by these to make the lovely dinner one night.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it gets all dolled up and addressed with some double lipstick on.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_03]: But then they catch man beast outside, kissing bova.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: Just like is constantly saying like, oh, yeah, I get so much out of this relationship But you get so much too like you can't feel emotion, but like my hate totally strengthen your will to destroy By Beast and by Beast as I love Lucy would make me so happy
- 39:42[SPEAKER_03]: I love how ridiculous this character is.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_03]: It's all crazy wonky super science, and it's a very fun bad guy for heroes to punch.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_03]: What if this character got some sort of hero turn or like focused turn, where he's like a main character for a period of time?
- 39:58[SPEAKER_03]: What's the story we need?
- 39:59[SPEAKER_02]: I think this would be like jobber in the unlimited class recovery, I think.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think that you
- 40:12[SPEAKER_05]: I think Bobby speaks poorly for the burn people in general because if he is the repository of all they learn about war and and culture this is not this is not a good
- 40:27[SPEAKER_05]: It's kind of a fail, right?
- 40:29[SPEAKER_05]: Like culturally, that didn't clearly didn't include fashion because you're running around in trucks.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_05]: War, okay, but he has no weapons, no armor, it doesn't seem like a particularly.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_05]: So I don't know if there's just certain things that are just not connecting for me, but I like the concept of just him or them living as roommates and arguing and dating us.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_05]: harbly talks is really bad.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, by Beast has like the funny neighbor to Spider-Man, right?
- 41:01[SPEAKER_03]: Or by Beast as like the support character, like the Jarvis, or by Beast as like the awesome Andy character, where they're like program to like be helpful now, right?
- 41:11[SPEAKER_03]: But here's the other side of that story.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_03]: What if we amplify him up to like major villain status?
- 41:15[SPEAKER_03]: What does that story look like?
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: We'd be an antagonist for a five issue arc in a return to Jason Aeron on writing Thor.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: That's
- 41:25[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to just rip a hole through reality and fold by beast into the proper universe and give him a starring role in the Harley Quinn show.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, that's fine.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_05]: He would jam with those weirdos.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_05]: He would be, he would, they would fit right in.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_03]: Bybeast also, and here's a crazy thing to consider.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_03]: Bybeast and the stranger are the same person.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_03]: Not at the same level.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_03]: The stranger is the surviving, like the projected minds of a planet all into one being.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_03]: And bybeast isn't his way, the projected consciousnesses of the bird, the bird people into one being.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_03]: So there's not like there's almost like a supreme intelligence quality to this character like they plug into like the right power source and have access to information and then there's like a world takeover kind of event right where you take this character quite seriously that's interesting to me too.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, there's another connection between you and I Steve though.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_03]: Karen Charmed did the Stranger Art for my wall.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they drew a Stranger and Franklin Richards.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_03]: I've got two Karen Charmer originals over here.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_03]: That's incredible.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: at length about this right.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_03]: As you can imagine, we are we are queers of a certain age and the fact that we get to hang out on a week night talking about this crazy like 1960s the horror alien robot is so fun.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_03]: Do we have any kind of concluding thoughts?
- 42:56[SPEAKER_03]: I'm the journey we took through the Bivis life today.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_03]: There is not a lot of consequence to this character but that makes this a fun pelic lenser.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_02]: Well Karen is not on your Patreon and asking you all this about the
- 43:07[SPEAKER_03]: We said such nice things like I really want to be a Karen charm by these now is like the only thing I want to see you know I was recently talking to Karen charm about getting another commission and I think we just decided what it is and I know they would be down and I know they would be done.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_05]: Oh my god, but like in little shorts like like by based on vacation would be kind of cute.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, come on.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_05]: I always the beach anyways.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_03]: I always like your original costume for my heart, though.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_03]: So we're going to go to the little black shorts and belt look.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_03]: That's uh, that's what I'm going to lean into.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_03]: Wern.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: I thought three does I love the Bible's and I can find my old notes.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_03]: I love it.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_03]: I can't wait to see it, please text me.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_03]: I love hanging up with you two every time.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_03]: It's been so long since we've got to hang out the three of us.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_03]: And Arturo, especially it's been ages and ages.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_03]: I'm so happy to see your face.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's one of my advice.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_05]: You're so much this has been such a delight you guys have with us.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_03]: any time and always you have a standing invitation on this show both of you love love love hangin every time but okay well as we're wrapping up any final thoughts where can people find you anything you want to plug before late October 2025 on gremelkin lane you can't well actually I'm going to have Steve go first here I am the bivist my pronouns have been named them I've had a blast like I always do huh so
- 44:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'd like to plug Halloween.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: Do it.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_05]: Do it, do it.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_03]: Such inspiring words.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'd like to plug Halloween.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_03]: Do it.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_03]: And our tour of.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_05]: I, this has been a delight.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_05]: I'm a true, you could find me at Mr. Toybox on Twitter and Instagram, but I'm very absolutely of everything to be honest with you.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_05]: But life is good.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_05]: I'm very happy everybody.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_05]: So, so I will say from the river to the sea, Alistine, basically.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_03]: Lastly, I'm Chad Anderson.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_03]: You can follow the show at Grimmel Gun Under Sportland on Instagram.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_03]: We're closing the month out for Halloween with the trials of the Son of Satan and Satana.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_03]: We get to go crazy 70's Marvel Horror.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_03]: And then in November on the show, we're going to get a tiny bit serious.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_03]: I promise to keep it fun and educational, but
- 45:22[SPEAKER_03]: We're having a whole month dedicated to comic books and fascism.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to be concluding November with the trial of Baron Zemo, and all of the issue reviews and characters will be related to fascist concepts in Marvel Comics.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_03]: Specifically, we're going to open the Patreon in November with the character The Hate Monger, which is the clone of Adolf Hitler, fighting the fantastic forward the 1960s, and the incredible Molly Laser in Phillips Smith will be joining me.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_03]: And we're going to go on a whole journey together.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_03]: So thanks for your trust.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_03]: I promise it'll be again, educational and fun.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_03]: So thanks for your trust, and we'll see you back.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_03]: All right, Steve.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_03]: All right, Arturo.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_03]: It's great to see you both.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see you all back here next time.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_03]: The Grimalkin Lane, Patreon.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_03]: And now stay tuned for some thoughts on fascism, as a special guest and I talked about a red skull story and its modern applications.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_03]: The Zelenbau at Session Housing Concentration Camp was a special detention block constructed in 1937, shortly after the camp itself was established north of Berlin in 1936.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_03]: Sessionhausen was intended as a model cap under SS administration, and the Zelembal was designed for prisoners considered politically sensitive, high profile, or strategically important.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_03]: Unlike the overcrowded barracks used for most ins inmates, this building contained individual cells and tighter security.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_03]: It functioned as a prison within the cap system.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_03]: controlled directly by the SS, where isolation could be imposed more deliberately.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_03]: So think of it a little like death row or solitary confinement.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_03]: Prisoners held in the Zelenbau included political opponents, resistance figures, foreign nationals, and individuals the regime wanted to keep alive for intelligent or diplomatic reasons.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_03]: Among the detainees were Georg Elser, who attempted to assassinate Hitler in 1939, and later prominent prisoners from occupied countries, conditions varied depending on the prisoners perceived value.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_03]: Some were subjected to strict solitary confinement and harsh interrogation.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_03]: Others were kept under controlled conditions because they might be useful for propaganda, negotiation, or future political leverage.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_03]: The Zellin-Bow structure reflected its purpose.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_03]: It consisted of single cells, arranged along corridors, with heightened guard supervision.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_03]: Isolation was a central feature, solitary confinement was used as a method of psychological pressure, limiting contact with other inmates and cutting prisoners off from news or reassurance.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_03]: Interrogations in surveillance were frequent.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_03]: While it was not an extermination site like the other spots, the building was embedded in a broader cap complex
- 47:53[SPEAKER_03]: After the war, Soshinhausen was liberated by Soviet forces in April 1945.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_03]: The camp, including the Zelenbau, was later used by Soviet authorities as a special camp for their own detainees, before eventually becoming a memorial site in East Germany.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_03]: Today, the Zelenbau remains part of the Soshinhausen.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_03]: Soshinhausen Memorial and Museum.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_03]: It stands as a reminder of how the Nazi camp system incorporated not only mass detention and forced labor, but also specialized facilities for isolation, coercion, and political control.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to jump back into the world of uncanny Avengers, discussing a few loose issues across the way.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_03]: This is the series where Cyclops has murdered Xavier and the red skull took Xavier's brain and things are going crazy.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_03]: The Avengers Unity squad is on the hunt for the red skull and they have unfinished business.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_03]: He still has the body of Charles Xavier in his mind.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_03]: The team, Rogue, Cable, Quicksilver, Synaps, the Human Torch, Deadpool, Dr. Voodoo, and Old Man Steve Rogers.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_03]: Try hunting him down, but he poses as gambit using telepathic control to bolster the illusion.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_03]: While robbing a gold reserve with his daughter, sin to fund his further fascist goals.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_03]: When she asked the Red School why he didn't simply mind-wipe the mutants here applied, because data executives, students were well instructed and defense against telepathic attacks.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_03]: When the time comes for us to deal with the Avengers, the Unity Squad will require a delicate touch.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_03]: When the time is right, every man, a woman and child that has ever been an adventure and an adventure would parachute my hand, and in their last moments I'll use Xavier's brain to make Steve Rogers telepathically feel every death.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_03]: When Rogers can bear no more, he would beg me to end his miserable life, but I will not.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_03]: I'll lock his mind away to replay the last moments of every Avenger.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_03]: I would live to watch the madness take him off.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_03]: He soon begins mentally manipulating Quicksilver, poor guy.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_03]: This guy's always getting fucked with the head.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_03]: And a few issues later, we see him demand that Pietro bring the Avengers in again to avoid more mental punishment and torment.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_03]: Up, so he soon takes a base the Red Skull in Avengers Mansion, which has been turned into a bed and breakfast at this point, and he has quick silver attack the other Avengers, beating them all up while making rogue think that he's Charles Xavier reborn.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_03]: Gaining mastery of Xavier's mental powers has been one of my most difficult challenges, but it was worth it, he says.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_03]: The Red Skull violently assaults the Avengers, making them hurt each other, playing on their deepest insecurities and personal traumas in some really cruel moments.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_03]: and there are major superhero smash-em-at moments until Rogue eventually figures out she can use a magneto helmet to block his telepathy.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_03]: The skull tries to run for it, but Rogue defeats him, takes him to the beast who seemingly burns the Xavier brain right out of him, but it's going to show that he still has it in some of his near appearances.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: The now power of the skull is taken to shield for containment, and we later see him as the white skull after the axis event, with Scarlet Witch and Dr. Doom working to reverse the inversion spell.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_03]: Let me welcome my dear friend, Nico action to the show to talk to me about this crazy story.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_03]: Nico, hello, and are you a red skull fan, my friend?
- 50:58[SPEAKER_06]: Hello, no, I cannot think of a character that I think less of.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_03]: Are you fan of the uncanny Avengers from?
- 51:06[SPEAKER_06]: Honestly, I've never found an uncanny Avengers run that really locks in with my spirit.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_06]: I wanted to love the original one, but the remainder run was just a little tough for me.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_06]: And from there, I didn't ever really connect with this team.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_06]: I love the idea of mutants everywhere and that the Avengers being filled with characters that represent the broader spectrum of diversity in the Marvel Universe.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_06]: But I always felt like uncanny Avengers was basically a super bowl at.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_03]: This is the Jerry Duggen Rott of comics.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we some of your thoughts about jumping into this world.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_03]: It was a fun, it's a fun read.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_03]: It is a fun read.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_06]: It has a very, almost like, um, I guess like a Vegas style energy to it.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_06]: that there's just kind of like a lot of show there's a lot of flash.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_06]: It feels for me like a title that is about appealing to as broad a base as possible in ways that sometimes kind of miss the mark.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_06]: I was very confused at the character interactions everybody has a
- 52:07[SPEAKER_06]: Almost like so, in the 1980s, TV was designed so that no matter what episode you were watching, as long as you watched the theme song, you would be able to dial into what's going on.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_06]: And that's very much what I get from this title, which makes it a relaxing, easy read.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_06]: You know, when you asked me to read it for this, I was more than happy to.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_06]: In part because it was an easy read that wasn't a challenge.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_03]: This is a series where Rogue Fux then pulled for a little while and I hate it so much.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_06]: You know, and what's funny is like, that's one of my least problems with it.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_06]: I'm a, I'm a bit of a wade fan.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_06]: I don't like Callis Crass Wade.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_06]: I think that if most people go back and read early dead pool appearances, they would be horrified by the amount of misogyny threats of sexual violence against women.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_06]: Uh, absolute disinterest in the protection of children, which goes on to be what a lot of people associate with him.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_06]: So like, I do love this era of dead pool.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_06]: I guess we can unfortunately call it post Reynolds dead.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_06]: You know, so I'm an enormous cable fan, like probably top five marble characters, and so I really love it.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_06]: It's like I'm just going to delete my brain instead of submitting to fascism.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_06]: That was for me next level nonsense.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_03]: That is a moment in this.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't highlight rent school tries to invade cable's brain.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_03]: And he just like wipes the wipes that clean, like destroying a computer hard drive almost, you know.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I thought that was terrific.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_06]: And honestly, it comes up a lot on X's for comics where we talk about, you know, the show I do with my partner, T.K., you know, he's my, my coos, you know, my best friends.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_06]: I have often said that for me, the X-man, like period is Roe.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_06]: She's not my favorite character.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_06]: She is one of them, but when I think about characters that represent the ideal identity of what the X-Men are, it's Roe.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_06]: There's that moment after the third hellfire gala where she's the one that Xavier knows he can rely on for me that is this rogue I didn't like how what maybe felt like she was had kind of easily but it's Xavier's mind powers whatever
- 54:05[SPEAKER_06]: Um, I thought that she also displayed a lot of really terrific character work in having a plan working through it.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_06]: And honestly, anytime somebody puts on a magneto helmet and is like, yeah, now what is like my day.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, delicious moments.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I've been having a little conversations on the show this last year.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_03]: about how fascism is kind of the backdrop of evil in the Marvel Universe, said Captain America books, but even in the X-Men books, days of future past is a storyline where fascism takes over.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_03]: So seeing the X-Men literally fighting the red skull with the braid of Xavier is a jarring read that goes on for a little too long in the comics in my opinion, but it makes him very, very scary.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_03]: How you doing in 2026, my friend, is just gonna check it in on people.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's not an easy time in our country right now.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, you know, being gay and Cuban is not the easiest thing right now.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_06]: I think it's probably a little bit trickier for other people than myself.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_06]: I have a lot of unfortunately just to address it.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_06]: I have you know, a lot of passing privilege in my whiteness and I am also.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_06]: very thoroughly ensconced in some truly dynamically blue areas.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_06]: I live in an area of central Jersey where the random Trump sign or a flag you see is rare.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_06]: I spend all of my other time in Philly around center city near the neighborhood where it is a celebration of queer identity and
- 55:32[SPEAKER_06]: So I do see myself as, you know, Kylie Minoglevels, I should be so lucky.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_06]: And I am very grateful for that.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_06]: I think that the bigger thing is seeing what's going on in the world has actually led me to change career paths to an eventual career path where I can help protect people more and get in through all the schooling for that.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_06]: And it's been a lot because, you know, when you look at villains and you
- 55:57[SPEAKER_06]: For so many years, you grow up in this world where the, you know, the obvious definition is not see equals bad and then all of a sudden the media is like, well, maybe that Nazi had some good ideas and I'm like, well, maybe you should have your transponder license revoked and so we're in a position where the burden does fall on all of us to be rude the burden does fall on all of us to be the one who goes and saves the person.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_06]: And so I feel lucky that I am safe, but my endless concern for the people like me and unlike me around me is paramount.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's really interesting.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_03]: The parallel between this story and now, and I kind of opened with that idea, like prisoners in isolation among the concentration cap, you know, like as this evil was happening around them, they're slightly removed from it all and don't know how to process the information because they've been isolated.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's interesting to look at the parallel now for disenfranchised population.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_03]: be, you know, immigrants or descendants of immigrants or queer people, the news is meant to kind of keep us despairing.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_03]: And we're watching the red skull, you know, lash out at our heroes with their greatest insecurities.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_03]: And that part is painful to read, but it's interesting to consider, you know, how we fight back and how we choose to live.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_03]: One of my mantra's these days is that living joyfully is an act of defiance and building community remains the thing that I need to do more than anything
- 57:19[SPEAKER_06]: You know, I think the main thing to hold on to in times like this is assuredness that together there is more and it's part of where my, you know, my conflict with this arc and you know, especially actually relating it to the real world.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_06]: I love stories where people see their worst nightmares come to fruition, you know, while he shall not be named, you know, to protect everyone around us.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_06]: Weedens astonishing had that incredible arc with torn, where the idea was the basis of your identity in this team is ultimately the thing that betrays you.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_06]: And that's an exploration of understanding of fear on a very specific level.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_06]: And here, Doug and went for something a little bit more surface.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_06]: And so, like, some of it was like, for me, I was kind of a little bit more like, eh, you know, that he's pulling out some familiar tricks.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_06]: And if we can just sort of remember that, while the threats to our safety are very real, the familiar tricks are getting older, they're going more see through.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, we've even got Coca-Cola being like, hey, Trump listen, RFK's got some bad ideas for our business.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_06]: And so like we're we're really reaching a point where there is a sense of everyone is starting to lose patients with this situation not even just those disenfranchised and I feel like when you see the safe people start to fight back it's it's usually a good sign that good love is on the way.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_03]: These are tricky times.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot happening in the world to take care of yourselves, everybody.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_03]: Nico, you're a consummate professional.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_03]: I know you're someone who works really hard on yourself.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's excellent to be your friend.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_03]: And thank you for joining me for this one.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_03]: I appreciate you.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_06]: I appreciate you and getting to speak the good news of why we should all take care of each other is always on my list of to-do's.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_06]: So thanks for letting me do it here.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_06]: Take care of yourselves.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_06]: We will see you back here.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_06]: Next week on Grimmelkin Lane.
