- Tre: Most people don't stay broke because they lack money. They stay broke because they lack perspective. So, hi everyone, Trey here with Student of Life, I am joined once again with Tim Straka: The one and only Tim, from Student of Life. Tre: The one and only Tim with the student of life. I it. I I love your intro. The one and only. Because you are the one and only. Tim with student of life. So like I'm the one and only Trey with Student of Life. It is what it is. We have a small operation here. We have a very small operation. But a couple of things I want to hit on ⁓ in this episode. And there a thing called being broke. But then also you have the poor mindset. Tim Straka: Yes, sir. So you think poor is only a mindset? Because I I think you can also be poor financially, but you can have a great mindset and try and do something about it. So I I think i and and I'm looking at it from a ⁓ a standpoint of look at geographically here in in the United States. ⁓ you know, case in point some of the spots over in West Virginia Tre: Mm. Tim Straka: the Appalachia area, just to be kind of more specific. A lot of those you had the the coal mines. Tre: Okay. ⁓ here here we go. Here we go. Once again, we're we're getting deep. we're about to get deep again. I we did this on the last we did this on the last episode as well too. ⁓ Broke poor mindset. Yes, we're definitely going to debate this and talk about that one. But I that you can definitely be broke and and we're gonna hit on this and and I wanna hear your stance on it. But I think that you can be broke but not have a poor mindset. Tim Straka: Mm-hmm. Tre: And and and and I'll explain why and we'll debate that for sure. I love it. I love it. also we're gonna talk about looking rich versus building And those things very important ⁓ my personal humble Because I don't look rich and and and yeah, I I I definitely don't have a lot of wealth. Or anything like that. But I'm definitely wealthy in friends. Friends and family. Tim Straka: Amen. Tre: Ca c call me what's his name? Toretto off of the Fast and Furious? Family. then also we're gonna talk about short-term thinking ⁓ not versus it's just short-term thinking environment as well, too. ⁓ So are things that I really wanna ⁓ for to discuss and talk about during this ⁓ whole And when talking that temporary struggle, because honestly, when we're talking about being poor, ⁓ I personally feel that's That is a temporary struggle that you're going through. When we're talking about that poor mentality, that is a permanent, you know, way of thinking versus, hmm, let me get out of this temporary situation because all situations, whether good or bad, it it's temporary, in my personal opinion. I I think you had something that you were saying earlier that you wanted to jump in on about that though. Tim Straka: Yeah. think about it also from a a ⁓ standpoint. So while it may not be the norm, you have incidents where families come upon a major medical incident, whether it's an injury, a sickness, what have you. and oftentimes they go hundreds of thousands, if not even more, in debt ⁓ due to medical expenses and bills and unforeseen stuff, or having to care for that family member. ⁓ so You know, these are things that nobody really plans for or or thinks of. you know, nor would personally think of all of these things. you know, you can plan ⁓ so much, at the end the day, you know, something catastrophic could always happen to anybody at any time. So ⁓ Tre: True. True. I agree with it. Tim Straka: ⁓ you know, I I I and and I I'm I'm not saying that know ⁓ should always plan for the worst and hope for the best, but you know, there's there there's times where you know you come some ⁓ you know ⁓ and you're in the hole ⁓ you know case in point back in the during the government shutdown. It impacted many of people, people that, you know, have a pretty significant or a decent salary. but ⁓ that's that we don't and shouldn't have to constantly plan for, you know, of the time when the government can't come up and make decisions. Tre: So so and and that's a a really keen observation And one thing I will say because when we're talking about, you know, finances ⁓ and this is kinda heavy, heavy conversation that we're gonna be having here today. Finances impact everything because it's constantly on your mind. ⁓ You so so case in point, you're over here, you're worried, you're stressed, you can't figure out How to care of this bill that just came up, ⁓ like you said, your paycheck gets stopped and you have to figure things out, and that's a mental toll it's taking on you. One thing will want to put out there to everybody, I I really want to throw this out there. If you are struggling mentally, there are resources out there. Do not hesitate to reach out to 988 and ⁓ Have that conversation. Sometimes we can't see the forest from the trees, but is someone that can be there for you 24/7 365 days a year, whether you're a veteran ⁓ you're a civilian, whether you're a child or elderly, right? Dial eight, text nine eight eight, there is somebody there for you all the time. And Hey, you hear that first option one? Press it. It says veteran, but if you need someone, they're there for you. They will take care of you. And this is coming from my own stance, my own thinking. I do not represent anyone on this channel. I represent myself. Dial nine eighty eight, if you need help. Sorry Tim. Sorry to hijack that. I just wanted to make sure I know a lot of people deal with that, know, ment mental struggle when they're dealing with finances. So I wanted to make sure I put that PSA out there. Tim Straka: Yeah. No, absolutely. And that ties back into kind of the current state of a lot of things now with the rising prices of, you know, fuel, food, goods, just everything in general. So, you know, I've been seeing a lot more people that have become impacted, you know, with a lot of the the financial side of things in life. And, you know, just knowing that there's options for both, you know, the the civilian ⁓ but also the veterans that are out there. ⁓ it it that's an amazing thing to to have. Tre: And most people don't realize that, you know, that when we're talking about nine eighty eight, that even though it says, you know, option one for veterans, if you press option one, it does not matter. We will not turn anyone away and we will get people the help that they need if they're currently struggling. And when I say we, you know, the government, the United States as a whole, ⁓ know, nine eighty eight is there for veterans, period. And also, sorry, take that back, not period. You know what I'm trying to say. I'm I'm kinda flustered right now. They're there for Americans. not even actually Americans. I've heard that they actually take care of people overseas as well too. They're there for the human race as a whole. Down nine eighty eight, if you need the help. Tim Straka: Now on a a positive note, I I'm just gonna throw out real quick that I am wearing ⁓ an Ohio State hoodie today. I had my Tre: Anyway. You know what? You know what? You and your Ohio sports teams, that is amazing. You must be from Ohio originally. Tim Straka: actually not. I'm from Minnesota originally with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. however I just usually refer to them the as the Gophers. But I've lived here in Ohio long enough. I I figured this is my home now. ⁓ I'm I'm a Buckeyes fan. So Tre: There it is. Can I get an O H? Tim Straka: you can get an IO. Tre: I love it. allow it. So if you haven't already, ⁓ go and subscribe to the YouTube channel. So I know ⁓ when we go talk a little bit later, one thing that I want to hit on is the fact that Even though we all go through things, nobody's coming to save you. it's all a way of thinking and perspective. And that's stance on ⁓ everything. Tim? Tim Straka: Yeah, no, I I agree that, you know, we should not have that mindset of of needing rescued. however, there there are that times in life where, you know, having that life preserver thrown out to us you know, in a while or maybe, you know, once in our life, it might be needed. ⁓ And, you that's something that, you know, nobody should be ashamed of, but you also don't want to build that consistent mindset of that being the case for everything. So I I just for me personally, I know I've asked for assistance and I've gotten help, you know, from certain you know, groups and individuals when it comes to to finances. And, you know, that's ⁓ anything that I'm ashamed ⁓ to admit. But I also know that at the end of the day, you know, I have to, you know, pull my britches up, you know, like a big boy, and I need to Make those hard life decisions. Tre: I'm sorry, I'm laughing 'cause the way you said britches, first and foremost, a big boy, that reminded me of the movie, my gosh, with Will Ferrell and Marky the guys. Tim Straka: Yes. Tre: You feel like big boy? Tim Straka: Yeah. Tre: So, yes, pull up your britches you are a big boy, ⁓ most people should as well too. So, in the full episode, we're gonna actually dive into this and and talk about it because we haven't shared ⁓ information with one another of ⁓ points we're gonna talk about and what we're actually gonna hit. This here ⁓ is be 100% authentically us. but we're talk about how your environment is costing you money. And how you're not underpaid, you may just be underskilled. And and underskilled can mean a facet of things. But I have some some takes on that. on note, ⁓ if haven't already subscribed, I would say go ahead and do that. ⁓ Tim, got something else to say?
