- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I heart radio. Hey, hey, hey, we are often
- 0:20Speaker 1: running week three in the NFL action packed Friday. Will
- 0:23Speaker 1: have injury updates on Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson and demarcus
- 0:28Speaker 1: ware pays us a visit. That will come in just
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little while, but first let's start with week three
- 0:33Speaker 1: and the action that was last night in Cleveland. The
- 0:36Speaker 1: browns hosting the steelers. Spider Mitchell, Donovan, Mitchell brushing that guitar.
- 0:42Speaker 1: One of the new traditions there in Cleveland. How about
- 0:45Speaker 1: Jacobe vers said to Amari Cooper? That's a new tradition
- 0:48Speaker 1: in Cleveland this year. Good for the eleven yard touchdown. Cooper.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Back to back one hundred yard games and back to
- 0:54Speaker 1: back touchdowns. He's looking good. How about this one George Dickens,
- 1:00Speaker 1: arguably the early catch of the year? One handed, Allah
- 1:04Speaker 1: ob Jay on the sideline holds onto it. There it is.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Even Odell was tweeting. This catch. Is Filthy, respect all
- 1:14Speaker 1: the way around. More steelers. Now rookie paying dividends to
- 1:20Speaker 1: tie it up at seven. And then it's Jacobe Grisett again,
- 1:23Speaker 1: this time to David and Joeku. They're setting looking good.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Last night to the fourth quarter. We got fourteen browns
- 1:34Speaker 1: on top. Third and one what I'm called by Kevin
- 1:37Speaker 1: Stefanski this time Amari Cooper, again delivering, and then later
- 1:43Speaker 1: in the game Nick Chubb. Look at him go. He
- 1:48Speaker 1: was on fire, carrying the team almost literally line. It's
- 1:54Speaker 1: fourth and goal. They decided to go for of course.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Why wouldn't you if you have Nick Chubb and Kareem
- 1:59Speaker 1: Hunt Touchdown. Chubb gets in there. That would help put
- 2:04Speaker 1: the game away. A they tack on a garbage time
- 2:07Speaker 1: touch down. That upset many people. Browns win seventeen. Not
- 2:11Speaker 1: much doing for the steelers offense. After the game, Mike
- 2:14Speaker 1: Tomlin was asked, going into this mini buy now, would
- 2:17Speaker 1: he consider making a change at quarterback? I'm not. I'm
- 2:22Speaker 1: not in that masset Um. I'm interested in reviewing this
- 2:25Speaker 1: tape and looking at the totality of and figuring out
- 2:27Speaker 1: how we collectively get better. So answer that question is
- 2:30Speaker 1: definitively no. Missed on some place that we could have
- 2:32Speaker 1: had could have went either way. So, especially in the
- 2:35Speaker 1: second half, we'll have to look at those to where
- 2:36Speaker 1: we could have got better. Um and communication is crucial
- 2:39Speaker 1: on the sidelines, Um, these next few days, communicate what
- 2:43Speaker 1: we can get better at. Everyone just gonna be reuty
- 2:45Speaker 1: honest with themselves and Um, I think everybody can be
- 2:47Speaker 1: a lot better, myself included, Um, and we'll just have
- 2:50Speaker 1: to look at that see where we can prove. But
- 2:52Speaker 1: just stick together. Um. It's it's only gonna get better
- 2:55Speaker 1: if we stick together, communicate, talk about the problems and
- 2:57Speaker 1: everybody's willing to fix it. All right. So here you
- 3:00Speaker 1: take a look at the steelers offensive numbers. Pass yards
- 3:03Speaker 1: per game, seven right, twenty, all important. Points per game,
- 3:08Speaker 1: a little more than fifteen. That's in the NFL. And
- 3:11Speaker 1: then the total yards per games still bottom five. So
- 3:14Speaker 1: when you have Mitchell Trobinsky there as the starter, they
- 3:18Speaker 1: have first round. Take any picket. You know, that's what
- 3:20Speaker 1: people are talking about right now. Mark Ross. Jim Trotter
- 3:24Speaker 1: joining us now from more on this discussion. Mark, when
- 3:26Speaker 1: you see, and here Mike Tomlin's comments, that they are
- 3:29Speaker 1: not considering a change, how close are we, do you think,
- 3:32Speaker 1: to a Kenny Pickett? Look see there at steelers quarterback. Well,
- 3:36Speaker 1: Mike Tomlins, you gotta think about what he said. He
- 3:38Speaker 1: said I'm not considering that right now. I gotta go
- 3:40Speaker 1: look at the tape and I think when they go
- 3:42Speaker 1: look at the film they'll see. Well, maybe we do
- 3:44Speaker 1: need to make a change because despite the whole off
- 3:47Speaker 1: season of lauding Mitchell Trobinsky's positives, that he's a leader
- 3:52Speaker 1: and the teammates loved him, he picked up the offense,
- 3:54Speaker 1: he still had to play in the games and once
- 3:56Speaker 1: he played in the Games he looked like the say
- 3:59Speaker 1: Mitchell Trobinsky. Before the game last night I said, hey,
- 4:02Speaker 1: this was really his last chance to show something print
- 4:05Speaker 1: and once again the first half of the perfect microcosm
- 4:08Speaker 1: of the offensive scheme doing everything they could to make
- 4:11Speaker 1: Mitchell trobinsky comfortable. He tried to push it downfield a
- 4:14Speaker 1: little bit, but then in the second half we went
- 4:17Speaker 1: back to the same Mitchell Trobinsky that we've seen, and
- 4:19Speaker 1: that's just a limited quarterback who you cannot win with
- 4:22Speaker 1: unless everything is perfect and the way the Pittsburgh steelers
- 4:26Speaker 1: defense is not the same as we've known it to be.
- 4:28Speaker 1: The just dominate and win games. You can't win games
- 4:31Speaker 1: with Mitchell Trobinsky and if that's the steeler's goal they
- 4:34Speaker 1: have to reevaluate what they're doing. They have a first
- 4:37Speaker 1: round picking Kenny Pickett, who they drafted in the first
- 4:39Speaker 1: round for a reason. They need to put him in
- 4:41Speaker 1: there for some confidence level. Guests will have some lumps
- 4:44Speaker 1: and bruises and learn on the job, but for the
- 4:46Speaker 1: offense and for the mentality of the steelers organization they
- 4:51Speaker 1: have to move forward Jim and move away from Mitchell Trobinsky. Yeah, Mark,
- 4:55Speaker 1: you know you said something critical there. If you'RE gonna
- 4:57Speaker 1: play a guy like Mitchell Trobinsky, where points are at
- 5:00Speaker 1: a premium, your defense has got to be on point
- 5:02Speaker 1: and they are putting a lot of pressure on that unit.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And one of the Achilles heels of this unit a
- 5:08Speaker 1: year ago was stopping the run and we saw that
- 5:10Speaker 1: surface again last night. They gave up a hundred and
- 5:13Speaker 1: seventy one yards on the ground. In fact, opponent's yards
- 5:17Speaker 1: per carry averages increased in every game for the steelers
- 5:20Speaker 1: from three point nine to four point Oh, to four
- 5:22Speaker 1: point five. They couldn't get a key stop against the
- 5:25Speaker 1: Patriots two weeks ago, they couldn't get a key stop
- 5:28Speaker 1: against the browns last night and now coming up in
- 5:31Speaker 1: their next four games they've got two clubs who ranked
- 5:33Speaker 1: in the top seven and rushing. So that is something
- 5:36Speaker 1: they've got to get corrected, as well as figuring out
- 5:39Speaker 1: who their quarterback is going to be, because if they don't,
- 5:42Speaker 1: it's gonna be a long year for the steelers in
- 5:44Speaker 1: that regard. Yeah, no, no, no timetable yet for a
- 5:47Speaker 1: T J watt return. There now, oh, in six and
- 5:50Speaker 1: t j watt's career, when the steelers play without them,
- 5:52Speaker 1: dramatically different. On the other side of the ball, the
- 5:55Speaker 1: browns now two and one and really a miracle finish
- 5:58Speaker 1: away from being three and oh. They obviously were able
- 6:00Speaker 1: to move on quickly on Thursday night to get away
- 6:02Speaker 1: from that jets game. Kevin Stefanski addressed that after last
- 6:06Speaker 1: night's game. Short week with all the things, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 1: with last Sunday. Uh, for those guys that come through,
- 6:14Speaker 1: first of all just battle to make it to this game,
- 6:16Speaker 1: which is not easy, but then the fight for sixty
- 6:20Speaker 1: minutes and I thought it was really a team win.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I think it was offense, defense, special teams all working
- 6:25Speaker 1: together to get a W in front of our fans,
- 6:27Speaker 1: who were outstanding uh tonight. I really thought they brought it.
- 6:30Speaker 1: We had to look each other in in in the
- 6:32Speaker 1: face and look, look ourselves in the mirror and say
- 6:34Speaker 1: like listen, like, man, the season is going on. Like
- 6:37Speaker 1: the longer we soak about that one, then we won't
- 6:42Speaker 1: be where we need to be for this game. And Uh,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I think the guy has answered the bail and Um
- 6:46Speaker 1: came out with a big one tonight. All right, Mark Jim,
- 6:50Speaker 1: welcome back with us. When you look at last night's game,
- 6:52Speaker 1: a lot to like about the Cleveland browns. Mark would
- 6:54Speaker 1: impress you most about them? Well, I like Nick Chubb,
- 6:58Speaker 1: who I think is the best running back in the NFL.
- 7:01Speaker 1: What then you got Kareem Hunt coming in there, who's
- 7:04Speaker 1: what five top ten running back in the NFL. But
- 7:07Speaker 1: it also starts with that offensive line and we saw
- 7:10Speaker 1: those guys just pushed the steelers front. Jim talked about
- 7:12Speaker 1: the steelers defense not stopping the run. Well, part of
- 7:15Speaker 1: that was because of that Cleveland Offensive Line really getting
- 7:18Speaker 1: after them. Okay, and then you've got Nick Chubb doing
- 7:21Speaker 1: what he does with the balance and explosiveness and big plays,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and Kareem Hunt adding that extra versatility in there. So
- 7:29Speaker 1: for this Cleveland offense it all starts, it ends and
- 7:32Speaker 1: goes on that run game and if they can keep
- 7:35Speaker 1: that going keep the pressure off of Jacobe Brissette so
- 7:38Speaker 1: that he just has to make a few plays here
- 7:40Speaker 1: and there, Cleveland will be in most games. Now a
- 7:44Speaker 1: little worry they have played three of the worst teams
- 7:46Speaker 1: in the League and the panthers, the jets and then
- 7:49Speaker 1: last night the steelers. The schedule will get a lot tougher,
- 7:51Speaker 1: so we'll get to see a lot more of what
- 7:53Speaker 1: this team is really about if they can sustain that
- 7:56Speaker 1: running game against those better teams. Jim, yeah, Mark, I'm
- 8:00Speaker 1: gonna look on the other side of the ball at
- 8:02Speaker 1: the defense again. From this standpoint, this is a unit
- 8:05Speaker 1: that was malign the first two weeks. They gave up
- 8:07Speaker 1: seventeen points in the fourth quarter of each of the
- 8:10Speaker 1: first two games, so there was a lot of pressure
- 8:13Speaker 1: on them. Last night they come out, they give up
- 8:15Speaker 1: seventeen total overall and only three in the fourth quarter.
- 8:18Speaker 1: When I talked to one of their coaches after the game,
- 8:20Speaker 1: he told me one of the things we did is
- 8:22Speaker 1: we scaled back the playbook. That allowed the players to
- 8:25Speaker 1: play faster, that allowed them to react rather than have
- 8:28Speaker 1: to think so much. The interesting thing is that deacons
- 8:31Speaker 1: of coordinator Joe Woods, coming into the season, was really
- 8:33Speaker 1: excited about the fact that he was essentially going to
- 8:35Speaker 1: have the same starting line up for two years in
- 8:37Speaker 1: a row for the first time, and what he wanted
- 8:40Speaker 1: to do was open up that playbook to use more
- 8:42Speaker 1: sub packages, those sorts of things, and what we had
- 8:45Speaker 1: seen in the first two weeks is that those players
- 8:48Speaker 1: struggled with miscommunication. Last night they kept it simple, they
- 8:52Speaker 1: got the win. Yeah, there aim coming into the season
- 8:55Speaker 1: to be the top defense in the NFL. Certainly a
- 8:57Speaker 1: long way to go, they can trend that way, Jim.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Thank you very much. We'll see a little bit later
- 9:01Speaker 1: in the show. Mark hold right there. So you want
- 9:03Speaker 1: to get your thoughts on this? Arguably the play of
- 9:06Speaker 1: the early season in the NFL. George Pickens, the one
- 9:10Speaker 1: handed grab. He said he's open nine of the time,
- 9:13Speaker 1: justifying that talk before the game with this catch. Three catches,
- 9:17Speaker 1: three nine yards on the day. Now we know, Mark,
- 9:20Speaker 1: you were in the building when this legendary catch happened.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Odell Beckham Jr, of course, was tweeting about that. We
- 9:26Speaker 1: saw that a little earlier. This catch is filthy. Let's
- 9:30Speaker 1: take a look back now at his legendary Sunday night
- 9:32Speaker 1: football catch one handed, was passing, inter feared with scored
- 9:36Speaker 1: the touchdown mark. Let's bring you back here. You were
- 9:39Speaker 1: in the building how electric that was in o'dell's rookie year.
- 9:42Speaker 1: How do you compare the two catches? Hey, look home bark.
- 9:46Speaker 1: O'dell's right. That catch last night was filthy catch of
- 9:49Speaker 1: the year, but definitely not comparing to o'dell's catch, the
- 9:53Speaker 1: goat of all catches. First of all, look how far
- 9:56Speaker 1: down Odell was on the field. Second, as you mentioned,
- 9:59Speaker 1: there was a pass interference call where Carr was pushing
- 10:02Speaker 1: him out of bounds. O'dell had to maintain his Alan's.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Next o'dell caught the ball the point of the ball
- 10:08Speaker 1: with three fingers. PICKENS had to use his whole hand
- 10:11Speaker 1: to catch it. And then Odell scored a touched out
- 10:14Speaker 1: on that play. Caught. When he caught it, caught it
- 10:17Speaker 1: clean one hand brought into his back body, got straight
- 10:20Speaker 1: up chaired with the crowd. PICKENS had to get his
- 10:23Speaker 1: second hand on there and gather it in there and
- 10:25Speaker 1: then fell back down again. So not as smooth the prompt.
- 10:28Speaker 1: So from start to finish, the execution, the smoothness, the
- 10:32Speaker 1: the the impact that had had on the game. I
- 10:35Speaker 1: gotta go with Odell, with a goat, and that's has
- 10:38Speaker 1: an impartial o'dell fan, uh NFL network analysts and a
- 10:42Speaker 1: partial Odell Fan because we drafted him. there. Gotta go
- 10:45Speaker 1: with the goat of ball catches, with Odell Beckham. Yeah,
- 10:48Speaker 1: that catch seemed to launch this new era of guys
- 10:50Speaker 1: catching with one hand, practice, practicing it before the Games.
- 10:54Speaker 1: We saw George pickens effort last night. I'm sure we'll
- 10:57Speaker 1: see him any more here as this season goes on.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Mark Ross, thank you very much. Time now for the
- 11:01Speaker 1: insider report with Ian Rappaport and Mike Garre Follow Ian,
- 11:05Speaker 1: we'll start with you. Whenever we talk on Fridays there's
- 11:07Speaker 1: always fallout after the Thursday night football contest. What's the
- 11:11Speaker 1: latest here on Anthony Walker? Yeah, that's a tough one
- 11:14Speaker 1: and anyone who watched Anthony Walker get cartered off emotional,
- 11:18Speaker 1: clearly emotional, yesterday with an air cast, you knew it
- 11:21Speaker 1: wasn't good. You knew it was serious and this is
- 11:23Speaker 1: one of the heartbeats of the browns defenses. Now out
- 11:26Speaker 1: for the season. Sources say it is a torn Quad Tendon,
- 11:30Speaker 1: very serious and significant injury for Anthony Walker, so long
- 11:33Speaker 1: road back. Similar with Jamal Adams face in Seattle. That's
- 11:37Speaker 1: gonna have surgery eminently now the Browns, which you know,
- 11:41Speaker 1: his defense really impressed last night and played a lot
- 11:43Speaker 1: better than had the previous two weeks, now has to
- 11:46Speaker 1: go forward without one of their leaders in the middle
- 11:48Speaker 1: of that unit. Of course, it was last week we
- 11:50Speaker 1: were talking about Justin Herbert after Thursday night football. Now,
- 11:54Speaker 1: eight days after that initial rib injury, Ian, where do
- 11:56Speaker 1: you think stand with Herbert? Well, there has been some
- 12:00Speaker 1: good news this week. Justin Herbert was throwing on Tuesday
- 12:04Speaker 1: practice do it, did individuals on Wednesday and then was
- 12:06Speaker 1: spotted throwing yesterday. All of that is good and I
- 12:09Speaker 1: think for the Los Angeles chargers that is basically everything
- 12:13Speaker 1: you've wanted through this point in the week. But the
- 12:16Speaker 1: biggest question, Mike, is going to be how functional is
- 12:19Speaker 1: Justin Herbert. This is not a long term injury, but
- 12:22Speaker 1: certainly a painful injury and you just don't want one
- 12:26Speaker 1: of the young stars in the game out there unless
- 12:27Speaker 1: he is fully like himself. We'll see on this one
- 12:30Speaker 1: where it ends up. It's all been good so far,
- 12:33Speaker 1: but I'm not so sure Justin Herbert is out of
- 12:35Speaker 1: the woods just yet. Mike. Yeah, look, I justin. Herbert
- 12:39Speaker 1: is a tough guy. If it was just a pain
- 12:41Speaker 1: tolerance thing, I think he plows his way through, but
- 12:43Speaker 1: if it's a functional thing and they have to make
- 12:45Speaker 1: the decision for him, it could be different. But well,
- 12:47Speaker 1: we'll see. It's gonna depend on what happens, uh, certainly
- 12:50Speaker 1: during today's practice and how they designate him after that.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson, the other quarterback in the A F C
- 12:55Speaker 1: that we've been watching with a close eye regarding a
- 12:57Speaker 1: potential injury. Everything looking good here. Lamar Jackson had the
- 13:02Speaker 1: throwing sleeve on, accume, the sleeve on the right arm.
- 13:05Speaker 1: On Wednesday was a limited participant. John Harball said now
- 13:08Speaker 1: he's good, he's gonna play, while he was full on Thursday,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I believe. I saw reports on the scene said he
- 13:13Speaker 1: was without that throwing sleeve at that point. So all
- 13:15Speaker 1: indications are UH. Lamar Jackson, who had a terrific day
- 13:19Speaker 1: against the Miami Dolphins, just not terrific enough for them
- 13:23Speaker 1: to win the game because they just didn't play well defensively.
- 13:25Speaker 1: But Lamar Jackson expected to play this weekend. Oh, didn't
- 13:31Speaker 1: play well defensively, you say. Well, a little bit of
- 13:34Speaker 1: a reinforcement coming in for the Baltimore Ravens. JPP, former
- 13:39Speaker 1: bucks standout edge player. UH, he is joining the Baltimore Ravens.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Remember he visited there now once but twice, once coming
- 13:46Speaker 1: earlier in the week. Just needed to know was he
- 13:49Speaker 1: going to take their offer. In my understanding it's a
- 13:52Speaker 1: one year deal up to five point five million dollars.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Pretty submit a substantial deal for a veteran. At this point.
- 13:58Speaker 1: John Harba just confirming to reporters that JPP has in
- 14:02Speaker 1: fact agreed to terms. Should be official at some point
- 14:05Speaker 1: sooner than we'll see if they end up getting through Sunday,
- 14:07Speaker 1: but yes, some defensive reinforcements are certainly on the way
- 14:11Speaker 1: for Baltimore. Yeah, Raven's patriots should be a big one,
- 14:13Speaker 1: a big one in Tampa between the goats, Tom Brady
- 14:16Speaker 1: and Aaron Rodgers. We haven't seen Julio Jones and Chris
- 14:20Speaker 1: Godwin practice much this week. And what's the latest on
- 14:23Speaker 1: those buccaneers receivers? In Chris Godman did not practice this week,
- 14:28Speaker 1: still dealing with that hamstring injury and didn't seem mich
- 14:31Speaker 1: a long term injury, but two weeks it's just awfully
- 14:34Speaker 1: quick to return, especially when you consider he's recovering from
- 14:36Speaker 1: a torn a C L as well. So see Mike.
- 14:39Speaker 1: We'll see Chris Godwin out there. Julio Jones a little more,
- 14:42Speaker 1: wait and see. Didn't practice but was spotted on the
- 14:45Speaker 1: side doing some work with some of the trainers. Todd
- 14:47Speaker 1: Bowles telling reporters just a couple of minutes ago they'll
- 14:50Speaker 1: take it up to game time, but they want to
- 14:52Speaker 1: make sure he's healthy. That seems to be a little
- 14:54Speaker 1: more pessimistic than you'd want. So you do wonder. Are
- 14:58Speaker 1: we going to see the debut of Cod Beasley, despite
- 15:01Speaker 1: the fact that he only signed this week, when you
- 15:03Speaker 1: consider all of the receiver issue usually deal with? Plus
- 15:06Speaker 1: Mike Evans is out too. We have two huge showdowns
- 15:08Speaker 1: in the state of Florida this week, Mike. The other
- 15:11Speaker 1: one that dolphins and the bills, but the bills banged
- 15:14Speaker 1: up in the secondary. What more can you tell us
- 15:16Speaker 1: about that matchup? Yeah, Somar. On Thursday, both Jordan poyer
- 15:21Speaker 1: and Micah hide, the bills starting safeties, did not practice
- 15:24Speaker 1: and we said, oh they better get the back into
- 15:26Speaker 1: their defense to be able to play against a dolphins
- 15:29Speaker 1: team that is taking the top off of defense is lately. Well.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Half of those safeties look like they're ready to go.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Jordan poyer back at practice, but Micah Hyde, he has
- 15:39Speaker 1: been ruled out, in addition to Jordan Phillips Upfront on
- 15:42Speaker 1: that defense, as well as Dane Jackson, who suffered that
- 15:45Speaker 1: scary injury on Monday night. He will not play. The
- 15:48Speaker 1: good news for him as he's been at the facility,
- 15:50Speaker 1: he's been at practice, so great signs there. But in
- 15:52Speaker 1: the short term, obviously they're gonna hold him out after
- 15:55Speaker 1: that scary situation on Monday. So not great for this
- 15:58Speaker 1: Bill's defense. Starting to be a little bit thinned against
- 16:01Speaker 1: this Miami offense and the way that Toua was slinging
- 16:04Speaker 1: it all over the to tyreek hill and Jalen waddle
- 16:07Speaker 1: and everybody else, that's gonna be an interesting dynamic. Now
- 16:09Speaker 1: to watching the game. That could be more closely contested
- 16:12Speaker 1: than maybe we thought if the bills were at full strength. Yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 1: more than five yards, six touchdowns for two in Jordan Phillips.
- 16:18Speaker 1: That's a big loss. Was Instrumental in stopping Derrick Henry
- 16:21Speaker 1: on Monday night, limiting King Henry to just twenty five yards.
- 16:24Speaker 1: So that's a big blow on the defensive line as well.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Ian Mike, Thank you very much. The Dallas cowboys getting
- 16:35Speaker 1: ready for a Monday night showdown in the big apple
- 16:37Speaker 1: against the New York giants, of course, playing without Dak Prescott.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Booper rush stepped in last week and shocked much of
- 16:43Speaker 1: the football world, beating the Cincinnati Bengals and then Jerry
- 16:47Speaker 1: Jones with these comments yesterday. Wouldn't it be something if
- 16:53Speaker 1: you had a dilemma as too, of which way you go?
- 16:58Speaker 1: You do that. If he gets ten wins, the same thing.
- 17:03Speaker 1: It happened with Prescott, I think like H so you'd
- 17:06Speaker 1: want that. You'd want that controversy. Of course I would.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Of course that mains win one. If it comes in
- 17:12Speaker 1: and plighted as well as Prescott played. Rush played that
- 17:16Speaker 1: well over these next games and I'm walked to New
- 17:20Speaker 1: York to get to them. How your day was yesterday,
- 17:24Speaker 1: but I didn't know what you thought about the quarterback
- 17:26Speaker 1: controversim in the cowboys facility, and I'm just trying to
- 17:32Speaker 1: say this with a straight face. Had A great day yesterday,
- 17:37Speaker 1: but thanks for asking once again. I mean we've we've
- 17:39Speaker 1: talked about the comments. Um, I think you know, like anything, Um,
- 17:44Speaker 1: you know, when you look at the whole thing, and
- 17:46Speaker 1: particularly start, it's about winning and that's all we really
- 17:49Speaker 1: care about. But there's there's no quarterback controversy next year starter.
- 17:53Speaker 1: That's our starter. Mike McCarthy can't help but laugh about
- 17:59Speaker 1: those comments. Of course, Jerry Jones saying that Cooper Rush
- 18:02Speaker 1: praps would have ten wins under his belt does this team.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Dak Presscott is gonna be absent nearly that long. But mark,
- 18:08Speaker 1: what did you make in those comments Swirling in Dallas yesterday? Hey, look,
- 18:12Speaker 1: if this is any other organization, Omar, you're like, Whoa,
- 18:14Speaker 1: what's going on? But it's The Dallas Cowboys and Jerry
- 18:17Speaker 1: Jones and we're just used to this sort of talk
- 18:20Speaker 1: from Jerry Jones and, as you can see, coach Mike McCarthy,
- 18:23Speaker 1: he's used to it too, and I think the whole
- 18:25Speaker 1: organization knows that. Just they'll have to do a little
- 18:28Speaker 1: damage control or just laugh off what Jerry says. Usually
- 18:31Speaker 1: in an organization you want your owner, your head coach,
- 18:34Speaker 1: your gm all to have the same message to the media.
- 18:38Speaker 1: PUT It out there. This is we're gonna talk about
- 18:40Speaker 1: how we're gonna put this or spend a certain element
- 18:43Speaker 1: of the game or the week. But with the cowboys
- 18:45Speaker 1: and Jerry Jones it's just a nonstop entertainment. All News
- 18:48Speaker 1: is good news or there's positive, negative, controversial. You get
- 18:52Speaker 1: that Dallas cowboys brand out there, any kind of way
- 18:54Speaker 1: to get those clicks and those eyes and that viewership
- 18:57Speaker 1: on the Dallas Cowboys, and I think that's the way
- 19:00Speaker 1: Jerry Jones mind works. That hasn't translated the winds right down,
- 19:05Speaker 1: but he definitely knows how to sell and market and
- 19:07Speaker 1: get that attention to Omar. He's the ultimate marketer. He's
- 19:10Speaker 1: the head coach, I mean he's the general manager, the
- 19:13Speaker 1: owner and ultimate marketer. Mark Ross, thank you very much.
- 19:17Speaker 1: One of the most dominant players in his era. To
- 19:20Speaker 1: Marcus where, outside linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys and Denver broncos,
- 19:25Speaker 1: one of a hundred twenty nine nominees for this year's
- 19:28Speaker 1: pro football hall of fame class. Let's take a look
- 19:31Speaker 1: at that resume what most people believe will eventually be
- 19:34Speaker 1: a hall of fame resume. Twelve seasons in the NFL,
- 19:37Speaker 1: Super Bowl champion, nine time pro bowl selection and four
- 19:41Speaker 1: time first team all pro. It is our great to
- 19:45Speaker 1: welcome back to Marcus Omar where to the show here
- 19:48Speaker 1: on NFL Mount. De Marcus, how you doing man? Hey,
- 19:52Speaker 1: I'm doing great. Now. How you guys doing over there?
- 19:54Speaker 1: It's good. It's good. Second year now as a nominee
- 19:57Speaker 1: for the pro football hall of fame class. You were
- 19:59Speaker 1: taking all the way down as a finalist last year.
- 20:02Speaker 1: De Marcus, are you one of those guys that will
- 20:04Speaker 1: openly campaign for a spotty did you try not to
- 20:06Speaker 1: think about it? How do you handle what could potentially
- 20:09Speaker 1: be an emotional roller coaster all year long? Well, I
- 20:12Speaker 1: think that I've already put my resume in and I
- 20:15Speaker 1: can't do a lot more campaigning. I've done that already
- 20:19Speaker 1: for the last twelve years. So I think it's one
- 20:20Speaker 1: of those opportunities that you just gotta sit back and
- 20:23Speaker 1: you have to wait, wait for your opportunity, wait for
- 20:26Speaker 1: it to come, and once that door opens up, I'm
- 20:28Speaker 1: gonna go, you know, right through. Well, the semifinalists will
- 20:31Speaker 1: be announced in November then, of course, the finalist in January.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Good luck to you as always there, de Marcus. Speaking
- 20:37Speaker 1: of somebody who maybe in a hall of fame discussion
- 20:40Speaker 1: one day. Micah Parsons has exploded onto the scene in
- 20:43Speaker 1: a short time in the NFL, especially this year, off
- 20:46Speaker 1: to a tremendous start. I know you worked with him
- 20:48Speaker 1: early on in his career. What have you seen from
- 20:50Speaker 1: him that has allowed him to become so dominant this quickly? Well,
- 20:55Speaker 1: I think that with him, his athleticism first of all
- 20:58Speaker 1: just puts him in a whole other, you know, character
- 21:02Speaker 1: of athlete. But when you start thinking about his fierceness,
- 21:06Speaker 1: right as a young guy, when you come in as
- 21:08Speaker 1: a rookie, you always think about can he um? You know,
- 21:12Speaker 1: asked that rookie Um Syndrome of okay, well, you're playing sixteen,
- 21:17Speaker 1: Seventeen Games. But he was a mature guy. He came in,
- 21:20Speaker 1: he was a captain, you know, starting out his first
- 21:22Speaker 1: year and and you can see what I think. He
- 21:26Speaker 1: led the league last year almost in Saxon and he's
- 21:28Speaker 1: been consistent. Right now this year a lot of people
- 21:31Speaker 1: were counting the cowboys out, but cooper rush came up
- 21:33Speaker 1: big against the Cincinnati bengals. You know, it's always something
- 21:36Speaker 1: there in Dallas. The Marcus Jerry Jones saying he would
- 21:39Speaker 1: love a quarterback controversy, if that means Cooper rush plays. Well,
- 21:43Speaker 1: when you were a member of the cowboys and all
- 21:45Speaker 1: that circus was always going on, what was your mentality
- 21:48Speaker 1: in that Locker Room? You know what, if you're part
- 21:51Speaker 1: of the circus, you gotta figure out how to, you know,
- 21:53Speaker 1: get on the trapeees and and be part of the show. Um,
- 21:56Speaker 1: I mean, I've got no good nine good years with
- 21:59Speaker 1: the Dallas cowboys and every year it was training camp,
- 22:02Speaker 1: practicing with certain teams, you know, in the Super Bowl,
- 22:05Speaker 1: so on and so forth, and it was a great
- 22:08Speaker 1: opportunity to play for the Dallas Cowboys. But you gotta
- 22:10Speaker 1: sort of put all those distractions aside, right, Jerry Jones said,
- 22:15Speaker 1: with Russian, with Chris con you have to, you know,
- 22:18Speaker 1: take that with a grand of talk. He likes competition,
- 22:20Speaker 1: he wants to win, so he's gonna do whatever it takes, Um,
- 22:23Speaker 1: to make sure those ratings stay up. How but you
- 22:25Speaker 1: know those guys, they focus, Um, you know, I mean
- 22:28Speaker 1: the sky's the limen. I didn't think they were gonna
- 22:30Speaker 1: play like that last week, but many do that. Yeah,
- 22:36Speaker 1: the ultimate Showman, Jerry Jones meanwhile, you were with a
- 22:40Speaker 1: key piece a lot of people considered to the Denver Broncos,
- 22:43Speaker 1: when you signed there as a free agent back in
- 22:45Speaker 1: two team took a good defense to a great defense,
- 22:48Speaker 1: to the tutelage that you had with von Miller. What
- 22:51Speaker 1: do you make of how von Miller now has embraced
- 22:53Speaker 1: that mentor role? First with the rams last year, helping
- 22:56Speaker 1: them win the Super Bowl, now with the buffalo bills.
- 22:59Speaker 1: When you think about a guy coming from Denver, then
- 23:02Speaker 1: going to the Raums, being a leader, winning the Super
- 23:05Speaker 1: Bowl and now going to probably the best team in
- 23:09Speaker 1: the NFL, the bills, and seeing how not only there
- 23:13Speaker 1: from last year but got even better this ye will
- 23:16Speaker 1: go on there. Um, I talked to him yesterday and
- 23:19Speaker 1: just talking with him and he was like man, I
- 23:20Speaker 1: just feel young again. When I watched him that first
- 23:24Speaker 1: game and being a boy, get around the corner and
- 23:26Speaker 1: get to the quarterback, I'm like this dude was not kidding.
- 23:29Speaker 1: He's lost about fifteen pounds and I mean they're they're
- 23:33Speaker 1: fortunately ricking. Is that? Did you feel rejuvenated when you
- 23:36Speaker 1: went to Denver? Can you relate to that experience? I did.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Sometimes you gotta go to a place where you feel wanted,
- 23:42Speaker 1: when you feel like you can win and you can
- 23:44Speaker 1: be a leader, and those are three things that you
- 23:46Speaker 1: told me that he felt going to the bills. He said, Hey, man,
- 23:50Speaker 1: I might hapy about a prompt get back and forth
- 23:52Speaker 1: the Denver to see my son or back to Dallas.
- 23:54Speaker 1: But it's not about the showmanship when you're going from
- 23:57Speaker 1: L A or Denver a nice place like that. He
- 23:59Speaker 1: said there's nothing in buffalo but football and that's what
- 24:04Speaker 1: I want to do. Well, the broncos will be in
- 24:07Speaker 1: the Sunday night spotlight hosting the forty niners on Sunday.
- 24:10Speaker 1: But before we get to that, on Saturday night in
- 24:13Speaker 1: the NFL network spotlight, your Alma Mater, troy, will be
- 24:16Speaker 1: hosting Marshall. What do you think about this exposure that
- 24:20Speaker 1: troy is getting, getting on national TV right here on
- 24:22Speaker 1: NFL network? You know, at every game when I played
- 24:26Speaker 1: at Troy, you were the homecoming game and we got
- 24:28Speaker 1: a million dollars for each time that we played and
- 24:31Speaker 1: played Marshall. That was my first breakout game. I told myself,
- 24:36Speaker 1: if I'm going to be on national television, they're watching Marshall.
- 24:38Speaker 1: They're not watching troy, university of troy, University of Troy
- 24:42Speaker 1: State at the time. If I can play well, I
- 24:45Speaker 1: can probably. I've seen on me and I can probably
- 24:48Speaker 1: make a field. So it's the same thing with Troy now,
- 24:51Speaker 1: baby the shoe. That did a couple of other good
- 24:53Speaker 1: teams Missouri when I was there. So for them to play,
- 24:55Speaker 1: Marshall now when everybody consume yeah, they've come a long
- 25:00Speaker 1: ways and you certainly lived up to your billing becoming
- 25:02Speaker 1: the number twelve overall pick in the two thousand five
- 25:05Speaker 1: draft to Marcus were good luck with the hall of
- 25:07Speaker 1: Fame Consideration This year and thank you so much, as always,
- 25:10Speaker 1: for joining us. Thank you, thank you so much. Still
- 25:14Speaker 1: to come here. On NFL now, Greg Rosenthal. He had
- 25:17Speaker 1: amazing week one with his game picks. He didn't do
- 25:21Speaker 1: so well week two. He's here for week three next.
- 25:23Speaker 1: On NFL now, Robert Sale is not the only ones
- 25:33Speaker 1: with receipts. We've got receipts right here for Greg Rosenthal's
- 25:36Speaker 1: game picks, Rosie's receipts. Look at week one, four and
- 25:39Speaker 1: oh the ones that he highlighted here on the show.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Week two, not so good. Panthers, raiders, Ravens, all losing
- 25:47Speaker 1: this time for week reaction. Now, Greg Rosenthal, reachmailments on
- 25:51Speaker 1: week two. There I thought we were friends. We are friends, Gregg.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Maybe if you came in the studio and joined me,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't take such offense and highlight those. Uh Well,
- 26:01Speaker 1: you gotta check out the Friday phone show around the
- 26:03Speaker 1: NFL every on Youtube. Great shout out there, Greg. Right.
- 26:07Speaker 1: A lot of showdowns here this week in the NFL.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Let's start with that big one, buffalo and Miami. Who
- 26:13Speaker 1: Do you got in this one? I have the bills
- 26:15Speaker 1: winning a shootout, thirty seven to thirty four. I used
- 26:19Speaker 1: to have to cover the arena league in a different
- 26:22Speaker 1: life and one thing people don't understand about offensive games
- 26:26Speaker 1: it's actually the defense in the end that can make
- 26:28Speaker 1: one stop that makes the difference, and that's gonna be
- 26:30Speaker 1: the bills defense in this game. I don't think they're
- 26:32Speaker 1: gonna slow them down because of the injuries in the secondary.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I'm very worried with Micah hide out, Dame Jackson out.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Miami will score, but the bills pass rush presents a
- 26:42Speaker 1: problem that the dolphins offensive line just hasn't been so far.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I've been amazed to see boogie Bass and Greg Ruso
- 26:49Speaker 1: really step up this year alongside von Miller. They get
- 26:52Speaker 1: the big sack, the securic close win. You have von
- 26:55Speaker 1: Miller talking about making the difference when it matters most,
- 26:59Speaker 1: something he's trying to impart on those young bills pass rushers. Meanwhile,
- 27:02Speaker 1: that might be the highlight of the early windows Sunday
- 27:05Speaker 1: a late window dominated by the packers and the buccaneers.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Who Do you like in this one? I like the
- 27:10Speaker 1: Bucks to win this game twenty four to twenty one.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Tom Brady has to feel like it's two thousand one,
- 27:17Speaker 1: two thousand three. Maybe he's not at the peak of
- 27:20Speaker 1: his powers. Maybe his receivers are all hurt or not
- 27:22Speaker 1: as talented as usual. The offensive line is faulty, but
- 27:26Speaker 1: he's got a great defense, he's got a good running
- 27:28Speaker 1: game and no quarterback problem solves better than Tom Brady.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Like Aaron Rodgers, Matt Lafleur, they're adapting to this defense
- 27:36Speaker 1: and running life like Tom Brady and todd boles were
- 27:39Speaker 1: born in it. They're ready for up the game. They
- 27:42Speaker 1: find a way to win in the fourth course, and
- 27:44Speaker 1: this next game one of those sneaky good Games. This
- 27:47Speaker 1: week the lions and the Vikings. Both have shown flashes
- 27:50Speaker 1: so far this season. Who Do you like in week three?
- 27:53Speaker 1: I am taking the lions in a shootout. Now now
- 27:56Speaker 1: that I know you're giving me the receipts, like I
- 27:58Speaker 1: shouldn't be picking six point underdogs here, but I don't care.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I love this offense. I'm on run St Brown is
- 28:05Speaker 1: really turn into kind of a four man's devot and
- 28:08Speaker 1: I know deandre swift isn't totally healthy right now, but
- 28:11Speaker 1: when he gets the fall he is explosive. These are
- 28:14Speaker 1: young players who are absolutely taking a leap and they're
- 28:17Speaker 1: helped out, like jared doff, by one of the most
- 28:19Speaker 1: physical offensive lines in the league. I don't like the
- 28:22Speaker 1: way Minnesota's defense held up against Philadelphia. We could go
- 28:26Speaker 1: another good offense to find the secondary. He's not playing well.
- 28:29Speaker 1: I think this lions team, O mark, is built to
- 28:32Speaker 1: win some suit out. Deandre swift, banged up a little
- 28:35Speaker 1: last week, still had that fifty yard run and showing out,
- 28:38Speaker 1: hopefully a little healthier, uh, this week here in week three. Meanwhile,
- 28:42Speaker 1: the Monday night matchup, the one we've been talking about,
- 28:44Speaker 1: because if Jerry Jones's comments, he wants to see a
- 28:47Speaker 1: quarterback controversy because it means Cooper rush has been playing
- 28:50Speaker 1: so well. Does he play good enough for the cowboys
- 28:53Speaker 1: to win on Monday night against the giants? I mean,
- 28:57Speaker 1: Cook Cooper rush will be fine, but it's like we love,
- 28:59Speaker 1: we always love talking about quarterbacks. How about talk about
- 29:02Speaker 1: the most exciting defensive edge rusher to come into the
- 29:04Speaker 1: league since Lawrence Taylor? That's Michael Parsons Right now. I
- 29:08Speaker 1: thought last week was a big moment in the course
- 29:11Speaker 1: of Parson's career. Only three off ball linebackers, we have
- 29:15Speaker 1: the best edge rusher maybe I've ever seen. Let's use
- 29:19Speaker 1: him at that position every single snap. That's what Parsons
- 29:22Speaker 1: is doing and he could wreck a game. He doesn't
- 29:24Speaker 1: need a breakout game Omer, but as good as he's playing,
- 29:27Speaker 1: it as historical, I think the run he is on,
- 29:31Speaker 1: I don't think he's getting enough attention as a guy
- 29:33Speaker 1: just we haven't seen. I think he's been to play
- 29:35Speaker 1: for the year. He's gonna be an MVP candidate and
- 29:38Speaker 1: he does not allow a touchdown a giant in nine cowboys. Yeah,
- 29:42Speaker 1: Michael Parsons certainly exploding on the scene real quickly. We
- 29:45Speaker 1: just have a few seconds here. The Ravens and patriots.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Who Do you like in that one? Oh, I took
- 29:50Speaker 1: the ravens in that one. Are you gonna Count this
- 29:52Speaker 1: in the scoring afterwards? Now? I don't know. We give
- 29:55Speaker 1: us a bonus game? He only gave us three last week's.
- 29:58Speaker 1: We get five this week. We'll check in on you
- 30:00Speaker 1: a little bit later next week in the same bad time,
- 30:04Speaker 1: same bad channel. HMM. NFL now is a production of
