- 0:00Speaker 1: This is The Bad Hire, the show where epic hiring
- 0:03Speaker 1: failures and remarkable wins fuel better hiring. I'm your host,
- 0:07Speaker 1: Ken Monroe, and each week we dive into real-life stories
- 0:10Speaker 1: with HR pros, recruiters, and leaders who've seen it all.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Because let's face it, everyone remembers The Bad Hire. The
- 0:19Speaker 1: Bad Hire All right. Well, welcome to the show. This
- 0:30Speaker 1: is the Bad Hire podcast. And welcome, Emma. How are
- 0:32Speaker 1: you doing? Good to have you back. Good. How are you?
- 0:35Speaker 1: I'm doing great. And Lindsay, it's your first time on
- 0:38Speaker 1: the show. Welcome. I'm excited to have you here. I
- 0:42Speaker 1: think you've been in the industry, the recruiting industry, a
- 0:44Speaker 1: really long time and probably have stacks of Bad Hire
- 0:47Speaker 1: stories and a bunch of wins, too. So welcome. Tell
- 0:52Speaker 1: me a little bit about your background. Where did you start?
- 0:54Speaker 1: You've been a long time ago.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I have to throw it back like 20 years. But yeah,
- 0:57Speaker 2: I started in kind of the agency space and evolved through,
- 1:01Speaker 2: you know, industrial manufacturing, corporate, and a little bit in between.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Okay. And so you've been in sourcing, run a full desk,
- 1:11Speaker 1: been over in corporate. I happen to know that you've
- 1:13Speaker 1: been involved in a ton of big integration projects, putting
- 1:17Speaker 1: in HRS systems and talent acquisition systems. So.
- 1:22Speaker 1: You know, you did that, I think, globally over.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I did over a number of years and, you know,
- 1:26Speaker 2: led great teams, you know, bringing in great talent, you know,
- 1:30Speaker 2: running everything from the sourcing, the screening, the hiring, all
- 1:34Speaker 2: the onboarding and, you know, background checks.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Right. So suffice to say, tons of recruiting experience. So
- 1:41Speaker 1: some of these some of these stories will probably ring true.
- 1:44Speaker 1: ring true to you. Just before we get started, though,
- 1:48Speaker 1: to remind everybody, submit your stories. We'd love to read them.
- 1:51Speaker 1: We've got a contest going this season. It's $ 10, 000 to
- 1:55Speaker 1: the winner of the contest. You submit your stories online
- 1:57Speaker 1: at thebadhire.com. Check out that page and then submit your story.
- 2:01Speaker 1: We'll read it. Our producers will look at it. And
- 2:03Speaker 1: the best story of the season wins $ 10, 000. So we
- 2:07Speaker 1: look forward to reading your stories online. If we get
- 2:10Speaker 1: your story, we like it. We may reach out to you,
- 2:13Speaker 1: our producers reach out to you, see if you want
- 2:15Speaker 1: to come on the podcast, tell your story or others,
- 2:17Speaker 1: and just hang out with us for the day as
- 2:20Speaker 1: we shoot the show. So submit your stories. All right,
- 2:24Speaker 1: so let me get started. I've got the first story.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Are you ready? Yeah. All right, here we go. All right,
- 2:31Speaker 1: the boss goes into the office of one of my
- 2:34Speaker 1: dad's coworkers to discuss some kind of technical issue. They
- 2:38Speaker 1: disagree about the proper corrective measure. It escalates into a
- 2:42Speaker 1: screaming match and the boss fires the coworker on the spot,
- 2:47Speaker 1: tells him to take off his stuff and get out.
- 2:50Speaker 1: The coworker comes back the next morning, just like nothing happened.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So nobody's really sure what's going on. And since the
- 2:58Speaker 1: boss had to go out of town for a meeting,
- 2:59Speaker 1: they can't get hold of him to ask, hey, should
- 3:02Speaker 1: he be here? He doesn't seem to be causing any
- 3:05Speaker 1: problems though. So they just kind of do their thing
- 3:08Speaker 1: and leave him alone. The coworker keeps coming in And
- 3:11Speaker 1: doing work. And a couple of days later, the boss
- 3:14Speaker 1: walks past his door and does this kind of like
- 3:16Speaker 1: double take. Hey, didn't I fire you? Without looking up
- 3:22Speaker 1: from his desk, the co-worker replies, you can't fire me.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I have too much work to do. The boss thinks
- 3:28Speaker 1: about this for a minute, shrugs, and walks off. The
- 3:31Speaker 1: dude kept working there for another couple of years after that.
- 3:34Speaker 2: It's like an HR nightmare.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Right?
- 3:36Speaker 3: He was just like, whatever.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Right? Just come back. Okay. You're fired. Uh-huh. I'll see
- 3:42Speaker 1: you tomorrow.
- 3:44Speaker 3: He didn't really mean it.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:45Speaker 2: He was just kidding.
- 3:47Speaker 1: It was spur of the moment. Yeah. I guess. I
- 3:51Speaker 1: wonder if he ever did that. I assume they didn't
- 3:53Speaker 1: have the screaming match again after that. So I don't know.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Lesson here. Persistence sometimes beats policy.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Maybe he forgot that he screamed at me yesterday.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:06Speaker 1: False one out of town.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I think, you know, my kids are like that. I
- 4:10Speaker 1: think they just ignore me and You know, take their
- 4:12Speaker 1: keys away from them or something. And they're like, right.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I'll just grab your set.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Just take your car. Oh, my gosh. All right. So, next.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I worked at a company that was going through layoffs. Oh, jeez.
- 4:26Speaker 1: All right. I was in HR sitting next to the
- 4:29Speaker 1: girl who checked the anonymous HR tip line. That's the
- 4:33Speaker 1: third-party company where employees could call without being identified to
- 4:39Speaker 1: report HR issues. Turns out a manager had been feeling
- 4:44Speaker 1: down about the layoffs and decided his team needed a
- 4:47Speaker 1: morale boost. He piled, this doesn't sound like it's going
- 4:50Speaker 1: in somewhere. He piled them all in a company van
- 4:55Speaker 1: and took them to a strip club.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Nice. Classy.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Right. There you go. As he does. Yeah, including two women.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I bet they were comfortable. The women said they were uncomfortable.
- 5:11Speaker 1: There we go. And wanted to leave. He said, find
- 5:14Speaker 1: your own ride home. This was literally one day after
- 5:18Speaker 1: the sexual harassment training was completed.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Say that course was a fail. Yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 3: That doesn't sound like it was very successful.
- 5:27Speaker 1: He did not listen. Much like the first guy who
- 5:29Speaker 1: didn't listen to the firing. That guy didn't listen to the, uh,
- 5:33Speaker 1: the sexual harassment training. Yeah. So safe to say he
- 5:37Speaker 1: failed like management one-on-one class. Um, I hope he was
- 5:40Speaker 1: on the list of layoff terminations. I don't really hope that,
- 5:44Speaker 1: but he may have deserved it. Oh my gosh. All right,
- 5:50Speaker 1: last one, and then I'll pass it off to Lynn.
- 5:52Speaker 1: So I think she's got a couple. I work for
- 5:56Speaker 1: a company that produces munitions. So background checks are required.
- 6:03Speaker 1: You cannot have a felony and work around firearms. I
- 6:07Speaker 1: always ask if there's anything in their– I always ask
- 6:10Speaker 1: if there's anything in the background that would make them
- 6:12Speaker 1: unqualified to work around munitions. Well, every recruiter does that, right?
- 6:16Speaker 1: Is there anything in your past you want to tell
- 6:18Speaker 1: me about? Have you ever been– Give me a hint.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You ever run a live someone? Yeah. You already say
- 6:22Speaker 1: it as a joke in hopes that they'll disclose something.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Remember that one story you read? They were in an interview,
- 6:27Speaker 3: and he was like, oh, it'll be fine as long
- 6:30Speaker 3: as you haven't run a live somebody. It'll be fine.
- 6:31Speaker 3: And at first I said, but what.
- 6:33Speaker 2: If I have?
- 6:34Speaker 1: That's right. I do remember that.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I hate my job right now. Dang. All right.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I always ask if there's anything in their background that
- 6:45Speaker 1: would make them unqualified to work around munitions. Answer is
- 6:49Speaker 1: always no. Until the background check comes back and they
- 6:53Speaker 1: forgot they have prior felonies. I'm interviewing a candidate and
- 6:58Speaker 1: ask him if he would pass a background check. And
- 7:00Speaker 1: he tells me yes. I'm not even. That's kind of
- 7:06Speaker 1: like a check the box rule, isn't it? I mean,
- 7:08Speaker 1: like you're really not supposed to ask that question, right?
- 7:11Speaker 1: You make the conditional offer and then you do it.
- 7:14Speaker 1: So asking the question actually is illegal in probably 25 states.
- 7:19Speaker 1: He then proceeded to bike his, wait, I'm interviewing a
- 7:22Speaker 1: candidate and ask if he would pass a background check.
- 7:24Speaker 1: He tells me, yes. He then proceeds to hike his
- 7:27Speaker 1: leg on my desk. He's going to pass a background
- 7:30Speaker 1: check and show me his ankle monitor.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Lovely.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I again ask him if he has any felonies. He
- 7:38Speaker 1: proceeds to say no. I give him the benefit of
- 7:41Speaker 1: the doubt and finish the interview. I send the link
- 7:44Speaker 1: for the background check and he completes it. Three days later,
- 7:47Speaker 1: I see he's on parole for S.A. on a minor.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Serial stalking and a bunch of other things in other states. People,
- 7:59Speaker 1: please be honest when interviewing people. Most recruiters are not
- 8:03Speaker 1: going to risk their jobs by not doing a thorough
- 8:05Speaker 1: background check on an applicant. Be honest and will not
- 8:08Speaker 1: waste each other's time, she writes.
- 8:10Speaker 2: All right.
- 8:11Speaker 3: You said he did show his ankle monitor?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know. I felt like he was semi-telling
- 8:16Speaker 1: the truth.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Was he joking when he said no?
- 8:21Speaker 1: No.
- 8:21Speaker 2: This is just an accessory. It's not real.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Jewelry. I know you thought this was a monitor. It's
- 8:29Speaker 1: just something I wear. I don't know. But that's happened.
- 8:33Speaker 1: That's happened. To you? No, not to me.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:37Speaker 1: But I've heard stories from our own customers who didn't
- 8:41Speaker 1: do certain types of searches and someone showed up first
- 8:44Speaker 1: day of work with an ankle monitor for a federal
- 8:49Speaker 1: charge and they did not search, you know, in their
- 8:52Speaker 1: background check, they weren't searching federal records. And they're like,
- 8:54Speaker 1: why is, you know, you guys missed a record. And
- 8:55Speaker 1: we're like, no, you didn't search that. That was your choice.
- 9:00Speaker 1: And then they come back. Somebody shows up with an
- 9:03Speaker 1: ankle monitor. You know, what always happens is they show
- 9:05Speaker 1: up with an ankle monitor and that story quickly goes
- 9:07Speaker 1: to some VP or executive VP who then lands on
- 9:11Speaker 1: top of HR.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Because all the whispers are from the office.
- 9:16Speaker 3: That's interesting.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Yeah. That's why recruiters double check. Because recruiters always should
- 9:24Speaker 1: double check because honesty is sometimes not in the vocabulary.
- 9:28Speaker 2: It's a little rare.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I think applicants lie. All right, before I pass it off,
- 9:35Speaker 1: the Bad Hire is sponsored by B-Checks. And every hire
- 9:38Speaker 1: who looked perfect on paper but turned into an HR nightmare,
- 9:42Speaker 1: that's when B-Checks comes in. With industry-leading accuracy, lightning-fast results
- 9:47Speaker 1: in under 20 hours, and fraud detection tech, other screeners miss.
- 9:51Speaker 1: B-Checks helps schools, cities, churches, ministries, and businesses hire right
- 9:56Speaker 1: the first time. Because a Bad Hire doesn't just cost money.
- 10:00Speaker 1: it risks your culture, your reputation, and even your safety.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Switch today and get up to $ 2, 000 in account credit.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Don't let your next bad hire become your problem. Visit bchecks.io
- 10:12Speaker 1: and protect your people, your reputation, and your sanity. All right, Lindsay,
- 10:16Speaker 1: here we go. I'll pass it off to you. You've got.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Some good ones.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Some good ones.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I heard you talking about one earlier today, and I
- 10:25Speaker 1: was like, okay, this could be a good one today.
- 10:28Speaker 2: All right. So a VP at my company caught wind
- 10:31Speaker 2: that she was going to be fired. Her secretary told
- 10:34Speaker 2: her that the higher-ups were on their way. The VP
- 10:36Speaker 2: told her secretary that she was going to the bathroom.
- 10:40Speaker 2: After waiting for 30 minutes, they had someone go and
- 10:43Speaker 2: check the bathroom, and the VP had never gone to
- 10:45Speaker 2: the bathroom. She went home to avoid being fired.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Oh. Does that work? Can you just... It's kind of
- 10:53Speaker 1: like being invisible. It's kind of like the first guy
- 10:55Speaker 1: who just ignored it. He's like, I'm not going to
- 10:56Speaker 1: be here for that.
- 10:57Speaker 3: You can't be fired if I'm not here.
- 10:59Speaker 2: You can't be fired. Yes, yes. Now I'm going on
- 11:01Speaker 2: medical leave right now.
- 11:03Speaker 1: That's probably, right?
- 11:05Speaker 3: Actually, I'm sick.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Yes. I have to go. Yeah.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So Lindsay's heard like a thousand different.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Little excuses.
- 11:11Speaker 1: A thousand different. I'm in trouble? No, I'm on medical leave. Yeah.
- 11:16Speaker 3: All right.
- 11:16Speaker 2: So another good one. It says, I hired someone that
- 11:20Speaker 2: ended up accidentally using the company card to pay for
- 11:23Speaker 2: his bail bond when pulled over for driving under the influence.
- 11:28Speaker 2: The position required driving all over the state, and apparently
- 11:31Speaker 2: this person also had a suspended license, so the employee
- 11:34Speaker 2: was charged with that also. And we didn't find out
- 11:38Speaker 2: until the charge was on the credit card and had
- 11:41Speaker 2: to investigate further.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Sorry, how do you accidentally use the company card on.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Something like that?
- 11:46Speaker 1: Because you're broke. You don't have any money. You've got
- 11:48Speaker 1: to pay it. You're like, hopefully they don't see it.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I can see pulling it out at the grocery store
- 11:52Speaker 2: by accident if it's the same color or something like that.
- 11:54Speaker 2: But that's kind of like intentional.
- 11:56Speaker 1: That happens.
- 11:57Speaker 2: That's intentional.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Our staff, sometimes someone uses the card inadvertently. This is
- 12:00Speaker 1: all I got.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Like, oops.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Oops, I paid my dentist $ 1, 000. Whoops. You know, that's happened.
- 12:06Speaker 3: It's like one guy, the story you told that he
- 12:10Speaker 3: took the company card and went to a hotel and
- 12:13Speaker 3: paid for a bunch of room service. Do you remember
- 12:15Speaker 3: that one?
- 12:15Speaker 1: You have like a great memory for these stories. I
- 12:18Speaker 1: have all this reach back.
- 12:21Speaker 3: It reminds me of other ones that we've read.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Other things not to do.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Well, it's kind of interesting because, um, you know, in
- 12:27Speaker 1: a survey that we did, we, we, um, we surveyed
- 12:30Speaker 1: people and ask them, would you tell your employee if
- 12:32Speaker 1: you got arrested? And like a six in 10 say, yeah, no,
- 12:36Speaker 1: I wouldn't do that.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:37Speaker 1: And there's, every company has a policy and, um, um,
- 12:41Speaker 1: we have that, uh, check 365 product that has continuous monitoring.
- 12:45Speaker 1: And so you find out when someone's been arrested, you don't.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Just, uh, See it on your credit card statement.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Not a good monitoring system. Yeah.
- 12:54Speaker 2: It comes a little after the fact.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:56Speaker 2: All right. So last one. I once had a candidate
- 12:59Speaker 2: for an intermediate level analyst brag during an interview that
- 13:03Speaker 2: he used to work other jobs and play poker while
- 13:06Speaker 2: working his primary position. For example, for about two weeks
- 13:11Speaker 2: before he was caught and got fired from both of
- 13:14Speaker 2: his jobs, he would take long lunches. No one knew
- 13:17Speaker 2: where he was between 1030 and 130. It's a long lunch.
- 13:20Speaker 1: That is a long lunch.
- 13:21Speaker 2: It turns out he had gotten a job making pizza
- 13:24Speaker 2: next door at the pizza restaurant. He was working there
- 13:27Speaker 2: during the rush hour for lunch. He also bragged about
- 13:31Speaker 2: playing poker at work constantly. This was, I guess, in
- 13:34Speaker 2: the late 2000s when online poker was still in boom
- 13:37Speaker 2: or popular.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I think it still is.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, I think that's still a thing.
- 13:42Speaker 2: He bragged these things to me as if a relatively
- 13:44Speaker 2: young professional at the time would think that that was cool. Hmm.
- 13:48Speaker 2: multitasking at the finest. And again, like he thought it
- 13:51Speaker 2: might have demonstrated his ability to multitask very well. And
- 13:56Speaker 2: either way, we did not extend him the offer.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Wait, this was.
- 14:00Speaker 2: This is for a recruiter. And this is a candidate
- 14:03Speaker 2: that shared this story.
- 14:04Speaker 1: No way. OK, so I was thinking this when you
- 14:06Speaker 1: were telling the story. So again, I knew someone in my.
- 14:09Speaker 1: So this is a recruiter. And because the recruiter saying
- 14:13Speaker 1: because I'm young, he thinks he can share this cool
- 14:14Speaker 1: stuff with me and how he multi.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Oh, that's funny.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I think that, you know, we've got that bond. We're
- 14:19Speaker 2: in common. You know, this isn't the real boss. It's
- 14:22Speaker 2: the gatekeeper to the boss.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yeah. This person. Yeah. He's going to think I'm cool
- 14:26Speaker 1: because I can multitask. I've got lots of skills. I
- 14:27Speaker 1: can make pizza for you.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Lots of skills.
- 14:30Speaker 3: I can win you a lot of money.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Good time. So, Emma, what's your stories look like today?
- 14:36Speaker 3: I normally have really good ones.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Ken always says that I.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Have good ones.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Ready? Yes.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:47Speaker 3: My bookstore wasn't exactly known for strict management, which meant
- 14:50Speaker 3: we had some real characters on staff. Take this sweet lady,
- 14:55Speaker 3: late 50s, early 60s, we'll call her Darlene. Honestly, at first,
- 15:00Speaker 3: she was just kind of forgetful. One of those employees
- 15:03Speaker 3: who can never quite remember how to do things, but
- 15:06Speaker 3: harmless enough. Until one day, she decides it's time to
- 15:10Speaker 3: show off something she keeps in her purse. Not a
- 15:13Speaker 3: picture of her grandkids. Not her new lipstick.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Nope.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Nope.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Her gun.
- 15:19Speaker 2: On the sales floor, customers around, staff around.
- 15:23Speaker 3: It gets the most normal thing in the world.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Just pull it out.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Hey, check this out.
- 15:31Speaker 3: That's it for the first one.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Yeah. I know.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Not as exciting as.
- 15:36Speaker 1: The last one. Maybe one of the recruiting questions would be,
- 15:39Speaker 1: do you, I don't know anything.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Do you have concealed carry license?
- 15:42Speaker 1: Do you intend to use it in our store while
- 15:45Speaker 1: you work here? Because we really prefer you didn't.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Maybe you should apply for a security role if you
- 15:49Speaker 2: want to carry a gun.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Oh, so what you'd need to send the bookstore for, but.
- 15:53Speaker 3: You know, it's crazy out there.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Okay. Here's my next one. Back when I was running
- 16:03Speaker 3: my welding shop, I had one of those moments you
- 16:06Speaker 3: just don't forget. I walked in one morning and there's
- 16:09Speaker 3: this huge pool of blood under one of the saws.
- 16:12Speaker 3: No one around. No one was around. I followed the trail.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Through the shop, splattered in the office, out the door,
- 16:19Speaker 3: and across the parking lot. It looked like something out
- 16:21Speaker 3: of a crime show.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Yuck.
- 16:23Speaker 3: So I hopped in my truck to see if I
- 16:25Speaker 3: could find whoever it was. A few minutes later, there
- 16:28Speaker 3: he was, my brand new employee, riding his bicycle down
- 16:31Speaker 3: the road. He had a bloody t-shirt wrapped around his hand,
- 16:34Speaker 3: peddling like it was no big deal. Turns out, he'd
- 16:38Speaker 3: cut his thumb clean off. And the wild part, he
- 16:41Speaker 3: stuck it in his pocket and decided the best way
- 16:43Speaker 3: to get help was to pedal 18 miles to the hospital.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Okay. Phones don't work. No. Yeah. Don't call 911. Don't
- 16:52Speaker 1: call 911. Don't call an ambulance. I'm going to pedal
- 16:56Speaker 1: 18 miles. Don't call an ambulance.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I drive a bicycle.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I'm just... I really shouldn't do that. But I'm just
- 17:02Speaker 1: imagining holding on to the handlebar.
- 17:05Speaker 2: You shouldn't do that. Off balance, leaning to the left. Oh,
- 17:10Speaker 2: that's sad.
- 17:13Speaker 1: He's first day on the job.
- 17:14Speaker 2: A little sad.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I would say that hire a suspect if that guy's
- 17:20Speaker 1: not sharp enough to.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Pun intended right there.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Solid. 30. I'm going to take a 40-minute drop. I'm
- 17:30Speaker 1: going to take a 40-minute pedal. 40 would probably take
- 17:32Speaker 1: longer than that. How long would that take? It would
- 17:33Speaker 1: probably take a couple hours.
- 17:34Speaker 3: My thumb is just decaying in his pocket.
- 17:38Speaker 2: And the boss has worked out his work.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I tell you, bring me some light. You always do
- 17:44Speaker 1: this to me. Guns and blood. Guns and blood. That's
- 17:48Speaker 1: what you say.
- 17:49Speaker 3: I didn't want to hear your craziest story.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Okay, that is crazy. That was a bad hire.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Clearly not good. It hired him. Clearly not good with
- 17:57Speaker 1: us all. Doesn't understand safety measures and not bright enough
- 18:01Speaker 1: to call 911.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Lots of concerns there.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Yeah. I'm ready for my last one.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I am.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Okay. This one is not as gory.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Okay, good. I love the wholesome, good-hearted stories. Good.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Lack of violence coming here.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Back when I worked at Jimmy John's, we had this
- 18:21Speaker 3: one delivery driver who was, let's just say, not the brightest.
- 18:26Speaker 2: He literally drive.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Home with the car topper still on top of his
- 18:30Speaker 3: car more than once. On our busiest day of the year,
- 18:33Speaker 3: $ 1 sub day, he got sent to deliver food just
- 18:36Speaker 3: half a mile down the road. Except 45 minutes later,
- 18:40Speaker 3: the customer calls asking where her order is. By the
- 18:43Speaker 3: time he finally shows up, we've already made a replacement.
- 18:46Speaker 3: The owner quietly pulls him aside, doesn't yell, and I'm
- 18:49Speaker 3: thinking he's actually going to get away with it. But
- 18:52Speaker 3: then a cop walks in, points right at him, and
- 18:54Speaker 3: hauls him outside. Next thing we see, he's face first
- 18:57Speaker 3: against the big glass windows, getting handcuffed. Turns out he'd
- 19:01Speaker 3: gone miles out of range, hit two cars... fled the
- 19:04Speaker 3: scene with the Jimmy John's sign still on top of
- 19:06Speaker 3: his car. And on top of that, cops found illegal
- 19:10Speaker 3: substances in his vehicle.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Lovely.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Never saw him again after that.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Yeah, super good hire. That's what you call firing without firing.
- 19:18Speaker 1: You just, cops took him away, I don't have to
- 19:20Speaker 1: fire him. I guess you still have to fire them legally,
- 19:22Speaker 1: I guess. But, I don't, you don't have to say it.
- 19:25Speaker 1: You don't have to do the hard conversation. You're just like, bro.
- 19:28Speaker 2: How would you do that if he's, he's like, where
- 19:31Speaker 2: am I going to send that last paycheck? Yeah, To
- 19:35Speaker 2: the jail?
- 19:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Which block will you be in? Yeah.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Do you want that in commissary credit?
- 19:45Speaker 3: That's all mine for today.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 19:47Speaker 3: All right.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Well, that's kind of a wrap on Episode 6. 7.
