Transcript
- 0:08Suze: April 19, 2026. Welcome everybody to the Women and Money podcast,
- 0:12Suze: as well as everybody smart enough to listen. Suze O
- 0:16Suze: here and today is Suze School, so you know the drill.
- 0:19Suze: Get out your Suze notebooks.
- 0:23Suze: Well, how are you all feeling? Are you feeling great?
- 0:28Suze: Doesn't it feel better when the market goes up rather
- 0:31Suze: than the market going down? Weren't you so happy on
- 0:34Suze: last Friday when the markets actually finished at their all-time highs,
- 0:40Suze: except for the Dow, it was just a little off,
- 0:42Suze: but essentially almost all of them, their all-time highs. How
- 0:48Suze: fabulous was that.
- 0:51Suze: However, oh, some of you aren't that happy, and why
- 0:55Suze: aren't you happy? Cause some of you did not listen
- 1:00Suze: to what I have been trying to tell you, what
- 1:03Suze: Fitzy has been trying to tell you, which is...
- 1:07Suze: Listen, as long as there is uncertainty out there, as
- 1:10Suze: long as there is confusion out there, as long as
- 1:14Suze: oil is going up, we don't know what's gonna happen
- 1:17Suze: here and there, the markets are gonna continue to go down.
- 1:22Suze: And then did we not say to you, but as
- 1:24Suze: soon as that clears up when oil goes from over
- 1:29Suze: 100 and something down to around 80 where it is
- 1:32Suze: right now, you are going to see these markets skyrocket.
- 1:36Suze: They're going to take off, and they did exactly that,
- 1:40Suze: but you couldn't wait for that. You watched as some
- 1:46Suze: of your stocks went from a lot of profit,
- 1:49Suze: to an OK amount of profit to not so much
- 1:53Suze: profit anymore to possibly breaking even to possibly at a loss,
- 1:59Suze: and you had to sell, you had to just get out.
- 2:04Suze: Which is why the title of this podcast is Avoiding
- 2:09Suze: Financial Landines. Now, I wanted to call it Avoiding Financial
- 2:15Suze: Land Minds, M I N D S, because it is
- 2:19Suze: your mind that gets you to lose money, because it
- 2:24Suze: is your mind that controls what you do, the actions
- 2:28Suze: that you take, have I not said that fear, shame,
- 2:31Suze: and anger are the three internal obstacles to wealth? You
- 2:35Suze: feel it in your gut. Your gut goes to your mind.
- 2:38Suze: Your mind tells you what to do and the actions
- 2:40Suze: to take, and then what do you do? You push
- 2:42Suze: some buttons or call your financial adviser and you sell
- 2:46Suze: versus buying more, and I know how hard it is
- 2:51Suze: to buy more. And by the way,
- 2:54Suze: the reason I didn't call it "minds" versus "mines" is
- 2:58Suze: KT told me not to, and I totally always respect
- 3:01Suze: whatever KT says, you know, I always think she's right. So,
- 3:06Suze: the way that you avoid financial landmines truthfully is through
- 3:10Suze: dollar cost averaging.
- 3:14Suze: When you go and you invest everything you have in
- 3:18Suze: a lump sum, or when you put money into, let's say,
- 3:23Suze: a Roth IRA and you maxed it out.
- 3:26Suze: And now, even though you could put another maximum contribution in,
- 3:32Suze: you do that, but you're afraid to go into the
- 3:36Suze: stocks and dollar cost average into the stocks, or ETFs
- 3:40Suze: that you have had, that have gone down, you just
- 3:43Suze: have frozen.
- 3:45Suze: And when you're frozen like that, you are doing what?
- 3:50Suze: You are blowing up your financial future. You are planting
- 3:55Suze: your own financial landmine, you really are everybody, and I
- 4:00Suze: see it all the time. I see it with some
- 4:03Suze: relatives I have, I see it with friends that I have,
- 4:06Suze: I see it with all kinds of people. I see
- 4:08Suze: it from your emails.
- 4:11Suze: And it feels so good for a little bit, so good,
- 4:15Suze: when the markets are going down and you sold, and
- 4:18Suze: you're like, oh good, I'm out, it's OK, I'm out.
- 4:21Suze: And it goes down a little more, and now you're
- 4:24Suze: feeling really proud, and it goes down even more, and
- 4:28Suze: you're going, see, I was really smart that I got out.
- 4:31Suze: And before you know it, four or five days later,
- 4:35Suze: it is above where it was when you sold out
- 4:39Suze: and continues to go up.
- 4:43Suze: You have to really get a grip on this one,
- 4:45Suze: and you can never let this grip go, 'cause I
- 4:49Suze: don't want you to make a mistake on the upside
- 4:51Suze: as well. So here we are.
- 4:54Suze: We're at the all-time highs. You've watched things go up
- 4:58Suze: and up and up, and you're like, I have to
- 5:00Suze: get in. All right. I got out and now I
- 5:03Suze: have to get back in. This is the time that
- 5:05Suze: you cannot get back in with a lump sum. You
- 5:09Suze: cannot cause even though it might continue to go back up,
- 5:14Suze: and I hope it does, chances are it will turn
- 5:18Suze: around and come back down again. I don't think it'll
- 5:21Suze: come back down as much as it did.
- 5:23Suze: But it very well could have a turnaround.
- 5:28Suze: So to avoid the financial landmine that I know a
- 5:31Suze: lot of you are gonna get into right now, which
- 5:34Suze: is taking everything you took out and put it back in.
- 5:38Suze: You have to vow to yourself that you are going
- 5:42Suze: to dollar cost average, and I know all of you
- 5:46Suze: say to me, how do I know when it's the
- 5:48Suze: right time to dollar cost average.
- 5:51Suze: And the answer to that question is, it's always the
- 5:55Suze: right time to dollar cost average, whether the stock has
- 5:59Suze: been going up, whether the stock is going down. Set
- 6:02Suze: a date, set a time that it just feels right
- 6:05Suze: for you once a month, once every three months, and
- 6:09Suze: just do it.
- 6:11Suze: But don't leave yourself in a position where you don't
- 6:17Suze: have the money to dollar cost average, and if by
- 6:21Suze: chance you are totally invested, you don't want to invest
- 6:26Suze: any more money, you're fine because you don't have the
- 6:29Suze: money to invest, you might wanna look at some of
- 6:33Suze: the stocks, write this down, some of the stocks in
- 6:37Suze: your portfolio
- 6:40Suze: that you don't have conviction about you think they've changed
- 6:44Suze: they really haven't ever performed. You've just been waiting for
- 6:48Suze: them while some of the stocks that you really love
- 6:52Suze: got obliterated. You only wished you had had more money
- 6:56Suze: to buy more, maybe, but you don't have any more money.
- 7:01Suze: Then look at other things that you own in your portfolio.
- 7:05Suze: You have to own more than just one stock.
- 7:09Suze: And maybe you decide, maybe I'll come out of this
- 7:13Suze: and go into that. Maybe if it's outside of a
- 7:16Suze: retirement account, all right, I'll sell this loser.
- 7:21Suze: That I really don't think is really gonna come back,
- 7:25Suze: and I'll put that money into either dollar cost averaging,
- 7:29Suze: or if it's a little amount of money into the
- 7:32Suze: stocks that I really do want to own for the
- 7:35Suze: next five years, 10 years, 20 years, or more.
- 7:41Suze: There's always something that you can do, but when you
- 7:45Suze: get caught up in a financial landmine, you blow up
- 7:48Suze: your plan. You get frozen, you get financially injured, and
- 7:53Suze: you do nothing and doing nothing when you can take
- 7:58Suze: advantage of decreases in markets, dramatic declines in markets, dramatic
- 8:05Suze: manipulative decline in some AI stocks, which I think they
- 8:10Suze: have been.
- 8:12Suze: When you get frozen and you don't take of that.
- 8:16Suze: I'm telling you, you will never build the wealth
- 8:20Suze: that you are meant to have, especially in the stock market.
- 8:25Suze: It takes a lot of courage to do that, but
- 8:30Suze: it doesn't take a lot of courage if besides courage,
- 8:33Suze: you have knowledge, you have faith in what you have
- 8:37Suze: invested in. You know why you bought it to begin with. Now,
- 8:42Suze: remember I told you that I owned one stock, and
- 8:45Suze: it was a lot. I own a lot of this stock.
- 8:49Suze: And even though I had a tremendous gain in it still,
- 8:54Suze: I had a tremendous loss on paper from its high.
- 8:57Suze: And I said, you know what, I'm happy with the
- 8:59Suze: number of shares I have. Remember this? I'm not buying
- 9:03Suze: any more. Then I watched it go down and down
- 9:08Suze: and down and down and down, and I said to myself,
- 9:12Suze: Suze Orman...
- 9:14Suze: If you aren't selling this stock here and you have
- 9:19Suze: the money, why aren't you buying more?
- 9:24Suze: And I said to myself, self, you're right. And guess what?
- 9:29Suze: I bought more, and I am now up on paper anyway, 15%
- 9:35Suze: in four days.
- 9:38Suze: And I want to own that stock.
- 9:41Suze: And I have the conviction that years from now it
- 9:43Suze: will be great.
- 9:46Suze: But you have to have that conviction. You can't let
- 9:51Suze: the news,
- 9:53Suze: many financial pundits, whatever, blow up your financial plan.
- 10:01Suze: So...
- 10:03Suze: How's that make you feel?
- 10:05Suze: Now just overall I have to tell you.
- 10:09Suze: I still really, really love the ETF SMH.
- 10:14Suze: And I tell you about that, that's its symbol, because
- 10:18Suze: if you don't have what it takes to own the
- 10:22Suze: individual semiconductors and stocks like that, 'cause the individual stocks
- 10:28Suze: scare you, fine.
- 10:31Suze: Just dollar cost average into the ETF, SMH just that simple.
- 10:40Suze: And that might solve your problems, cause sometimes ETFs don't
- 10:45Suze: get hurt quite as much as some really volatile stocks,
- 10:49Suze: even though the ETF might hold those exact same stocks.
- 10:54Suze: Just something for you to think about. Also, I'm gonna
- 10:59Suze: reiterate what I said to a lot of you, 'cause
- 11:03Suze: I know so many of you...
- 11:05Suze: I don't know why, but you put all your money
- 11:08Suze: into the Magnificent Sevens, the Palantirs, the IONQs, the Google,
- 11:14Suze: all of it all, no.
- 11:17Suze: Remember I told you a good strategy for you might
- 11:20Suze: be 50% of your money in a Standard and Poor's
- 11:25Suze: 500 index fund such as VO, VOO, or whatever everyone
- 11:30Suze: else that's out there.
- 11:32Suze: And the other part in individual stocks, do you remember
- 11:36Suze: that if you had done that over all, you wouldn't
- 11:40Suze: have watched your portfolio be obliterated you just wouldn't have.
- 11:46Suze: So just something for all of you to think about.
- 11:51Suze: The other thing I want all of you to think
- 11:53Suze: about is this.
- 11:55Suze: Have you all registered for the live webinar that I
- 11:59Suze: am giving on April 23rd at 6 p.m.? If not,
- 12:05Suze: You're gonna miss out. Go to Suze Orman.com and right
- 12:10Suze: there on my page, click. Just register for the webinar
- 12:15Suze: or just go to Suze Orman.com/webinar, register there. There are
- 12:20Suze: over 50,000 people who have registered now, and I want
- 12:27Suze: you to be one of them. Now, maybe you're gonna
- 12:31Suze: hear things that I've said on the podcast here.
- 12:35Suze: Maybe you're going to hear things that I've never said.
- 12:37Suze: I never know what I'm going to say like right now.
- 12:41Suze: I'm sitting in my little chair. I'm talking into my microphone.
- 12:45Suze: I have no idea what I was going to say.
- 12:47Suze: All I knew was I really like the title,
- 12:52Suze: How to Avoid Financial Landmines. That's all I knew. And
- 12:57Suze: here we are, 14 or 15 minutes or whatever already
- 13:01Suze: into this podcast.
- 13:04Suze: So join me there, but don't be your own financial landmine,
- 13:11Suze: all right? Please don't be.
- 13:14Suze: Don't be your own obstacle in the path to financial freedom.
- 13:20Suze: Just don't be.
- 13:22Suze: Just stay solid. Know, if you have time on your side,
- 13:27Suze: at least five years or longer, you should wish and
- 13:31Suze: hope seriously that these markets go down. So it gives
- 13:36Suze: you a chance to continue to dollar cost average in
- 13:40Suze: and accumulate more shares. And now here we are up
- 13:44Suze: again with many things, and it's like, oh, did you
- 13:47Suze: miss it? Probably.
- 13:49Suze: But when it goes down, just keep to plan, OK?
- 13:55Suze: Next, I wanna talk about the Ultimate Scam Protection. Now,
- 14:01Suze: I want everybody to be very, very clear about this, OK.
- 14:07Suze: A lot of you think that you are protected against
- 14:11Suze: scams because you have identity theft protection. All right, identity
- 14:18Suze: theft protection is not scam protection. A lot of you,
- 14:24Suze: when you looked at it and you saw it and
- 14:26Suze: you went, Oh, but Suze, I have $1 million of
- 14:31Suze: identity theft protection, and you're only offering $100,000.
- 14:37Suze: So fine...
- 14:38Suze: Since that's confusing you because it has nothing to do
- 14:43Suze: with really giving you your money back.
- 14:46Suze: All right, for everybody who already purchased the Ultimate Scam
- 14:51Suze: Protection or who will be purchasing it, you will see
- 14:55Suze: as of tomorrow or the next day, all the graphics
- 14:59Suze: will change, and we have increased the identity restoration protection
- 15:05Suze: to $1 million. So now you will feel like with
- 15:09Suze: the ultimate scam protection, you also have identity theft protection, OK.
- 15:16Suze: However, it's very important that you understand what scams you
- 15:23Suze: are protected against and what scams you are not protected against.
- 15:28Suze: And therefore I have included an entire list of what
- 15:33Suze: I'm about to tell you on the Women and Money
- 15:36Suze: Community app. I've also asked Nord Protect to put this
- 15:41Suze: list in exactly as I've written it,
- 15:44Suze: so that you can see it online as well under
- 15:48Suze: frequently asked questions, but we need to give them a
- 15:50Suze: few days to do it. So, here are the 19
- 15:55Suze: different kinds of scams that this program protects you against.
- 16:00Suze: Are you ready?
- 16:03Suze: Write these down, people. Tech support scams. So a scammer,
- 16:08Suze: for instance, pretends to be tech support, and they trick
- 16:11Suze: you into paying them for a fake service. OK, you're covered.
- 16:15Suze: Cryptocurrency scams, fake crypto investments that lead to scammers taking
- 16:22Suze: your money. Great. Romance scams, scammers that build fake relationships
- 16:29Suze: online to get money from their victims. Grandparent scams. Scammers
- 16:35Suze: impersonate a grandchild, asking elderly victims for an urgent payment.
- 16:40Suze: Email spoofing, fake emails that trick you into sharing your
- 16:45Suze: personal information. Job recruitment scams, fake job recruiters that ask
- 16:52Suze: for money up front for applications or checks. Phishing, smishing,
- 16:56Suze: or vishing scams. You receive fraudulent calls, texts, or emails
- 17:02Suze: designed to steal your info.
- 17:05Suze: Credit card fraud, stolen credit card info is used for unauthorized purchases.
- 17:11Suze: Marketplace fraud. You fall for a fake listing, but you
- 17:14Suze: don't get the item that you paid for. How many
- 17:17Suze: of you has that happened to? Online shopping scams. You
- 17:21Suze: buy from untrustworthy sites and never get your order. Fake
- 17:26Suze: money transfers, scammers send fake money like a payment that
- 17:31Suze: never clears and asks for a return transfer. Criminal deception.
- 17:37Suze: Scammers pretend to be authorities like the FBI claiming you
- 17:41Suze: have unpaid fines. Fake app scams, you know, these malicious
- 17:46Suze: apps that are disguised as real ones to steal data
- 17:49Suze: or infect your device. Overpayment scams. A scammer overpays with
- 17:55Suze: a fake check and
- 17:56Suze: asks for a refund before the check bounces. Online rental scams,
- 18:01Suze: scammers post fake listings and collect deposits for properties they
- 18:06Suze: don't own. Deep fake scams, AI generated videos or audio
- 18:13Suze: that impersonate people to steal money or info. QR scams,
- 18:19Suze: fraudulent QR codes
- 18:21Suze: direct you, victims, to phishing sites or install malware to
- 18:26Suze: steal sensitive information. Counterfeit currency or forged checks. Fake money
- 18:33Suze: or checks are used to pay for items. Unauthorized financial
- 18:37Suze: account access. Unauthorized charges that are made on your credit card.
- 18:42Suze: Now that is what is covered, everybody.
- 18:47Suze: Do you think your identity theft program covers any of that?
- 18:52Suze: We've thought of everything, OK, which is why I put
- 18:57Suze: the limit up to $100,000 because I've seen some of
- 19:03Suze: you fall prey to this for up to that amount
- 19:06Suze: of money. What is not covered, I'm trying to be
- 19:10Suze: very clear here with you, very honest with you, so
- 19:14Suze: you understand this product.
- 19:17Suze: Fraud between family members. For example, if a relative tricks
- 19:24Suze: you into sending money, I'm sorry, we cannot cover you.
- 19:29Suze: Number one, it didn't start online possibly, but family members,
- 19:34Suze: we can't do that. Next, business related fraud.
- 19:41Suze: Scams that are aimed at businesses like fake invoices or
- 19:45Suze: fake supplier details, we can't cover that, all right, but
- 19:50Suze: I don't think many of you will be subjected to that.
- 19:54Suze: Online auctions, lotteries, and gambling, we cannot cover scams from
- 20:01Suze: auction sites, lottery fraud, or gambling scams. And last but
- 20:07Suze: not least, investment scams we cannot cover.
- 20:11Suze: No Ponzi schemes or fake investments that promise big returns.
- 20:18Suze: So now you know what we cover, what we don't,
- 20:23Suze: and why I want you all to have the Ultimate
- 20:27Suze: Scam Protection. Again, to get it, you just have to
- 20:32Suze: go to my website, suzeorman.com, look for it there, and click.
- 20:39Suze: Now I've also posted everything I just said online on
- 20:45Suze: the Women and Money Community app and hopefully sooner than
- 20:49Suze: later they will be part of the frequently asked questions
- 20:53Suze: when you go to suzeorman.com and you look at everything
- 20:57Suze: that you get and I think you'll find that for
- 21:02Suze: $95.88 a year.
- 21:06Suze: It's absolutely worth it, but I just don't want you
- 21:11Suze: to think you're getting something that you're not.
- 21:15Suze: But I do want you to understand that if you
- 21:17Suze: already have identity theft protection, which many of you do have,
- 21:22Suze: I'm telling you that is not enough. It simply helps
- 21:27Suze: you restore your identity. The Ultimate Scam Protection also helps
- 21:32Suze: you restore your identity, gives you the same amount in
- 21:37Suze: terms of what they'll pay for lawyers and everything, but
- 21:41Suze: the Ultimate Scam Protection helps you what?
- 21:44Suze: To recover up to $100,000 of a covered scam that
- 21:51Suze: started online and I think you'll find that this is
- 21:55Suze: a program that you want next. I understand totally,
- 22:01Suze: that it's not very easy to do for some of you.
- 22:06Suze: Some of you, a few, quite a few of you
- 22:08Suze: haven't had any trouble. You go on, you apply, da
- 22:11Suze: da da, you're covered, OK. But many of you are
- 22:15Suze: being hung up with what's called multi-factor authentication, MFA.
- 22:21Suze: And we're trying to help you through that, but you
- 22:25Suze: give up. You give up so easy. So here, because
- 22:29Suze: you're giving up, what happens? You've set up
- 22:33Suze: a financial landmine for yourself, simply because you didn't wanna
- 22:37Suze: work through it. So therefore we have created a special
- 22:43Suze: help line just for Suze people. So you would write
- 22:48Suze: to ask at Nord, N-O-R-D protect.com.
- 22:55Suze: Now, everybody remember, Nord Protect is what is behind this,
- 23:00Suze: the engineers, everybody that's running this.
- 23:05Suze: So, that's why sometimes you will get an email from
- 23:08Suze: Nord Protect, that's answering your question, or Nord VPN. Fine.
- 23:15Suze: All right. Now, Nord has many, many products, I'm just
- 23:19Suze: telling you that. But I created this one with what
- 23:22Suze: I thought you really, really needed to protect yourselves, just
- 23:29Suze: that simple. So, $95.88.
- 23:34Suze: That breaks down to about $8 a month, but you
- 23:37Suze: can't pay it monthly. It's all in one lump sum.
- 23:42Suze: You try it for a little, hey, 30 day money
- 23:45Suze: back guarantee you can get your money back. You are
- 23:48Suze: asking me, hey, all my bank accounts are joint with
- 23:53Suze: my spouse. Why can't it just cover me and my spouse?
- 23:58Suze: Because remember this is not about your bank account per se.
- 24:04Suze: This is about you being scammed as an individual that
- 24:08Suze: started on your computer online. So, you normally have an
- 24:14Suze: email address, your spouse has their own email address, or
- 24:19Suze: maybe you have three email addresses, which you could put
- 24:22Suze: in all three under your one account.
- 24:25Suze: But if your spouse has different email addresses, then you,
- 24:31Suze: you each need to get your own. Now, we were
- 24:35Suze: thinking about maybe bringing out a family plan.
- 24:40Suze: But after going over how complicated that would be, for
