- 0:00Speaker 1: Donna Summer, as we wrap up summer, Labor Day weekend,
- 0:03Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM, Cubby, Christine, producer Kristen. And what were
- 0:07Speaker 1: this summer's biggest flops at the box office? I'll tell
- 0:10Speaker 1: you about that in just a second. But what are
- 0:13Speaker 1: people going to be watching this weekend if they go
- 0:14Speaker 1: to the movie theaters?
- 0:15Speaker 2: The runaway hits of the summer, Cubby. Still like at
- 0:18Speaker 2: the box office this weekend, we still expect Spider-Man Brand
- 0:21Speaker 2: New Day to be number one for its sixth straight week, right?
- 0:27Speaker 2: And the Odyssey is still going strong, and they're going
- 0:30Speaker 2: to keep it in IMAX a little bit longer through
- 0:33Speaker 2: September 30th, and that's expected to come in second in
- 0:36Speaker 2: a new movie this week by any means will be
- 0:39Speaker 2: opening as well.
- 0:40Speaker 1: So what's the opposite of the Odyssey and Spider-Man? Those
- 0:43Speaker 1: are the two big ones of the summer. Yeah. What
- 0:45Speaker 1: were the big summer flops? I'm going to throw some
- 0:47Speaker 1: at you, Christine. Let me know if you remember any
- 0:49Speaker 1: of these. Okay. Do you remember the hype on live-action Moana?
- 0:53Speaker 2: I do, yes.
- 0:54Speaker 1: There were some commercials about it. There was a lot, yeah.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:57Speaker 1: The movie was made for $ 250 million. Globally, it made
- 1:01Speaker 1: $ 315 million. So technically, it won. It beat the budget,
- 1:06Speaker 1: but they thought it would be a lot more. It's
- 1:09Speaker 1: gone down in the books as a flop.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 1:12Speaker 1: The Breadwinner. I don't know if you remember seeing the
- 1:13Speaker 1: commercials for this movie. I think Mandy Moore was in it.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:18Speaker 1: It was made for $ 25 million. It made $ 20 million.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Supergirl was made for $ 170 million.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:27Speaker 1: It made $ 126 million. Wow. Some of these I remember
- 1:31Speaker 1: hearing the commercials for, and then I totally forgot about it.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Like Mortal Kombat 2. Didn't Kara, wasn't Kara dying to
- 1:37Speaker 1: see that, our friend Kara? Remember when Mortal Kombat, she
- 1:40Speaker 1: wanted to go see it? I thought I could have
- 1:41Speaker 1: sworn she was one of our friends that had to
- 1:43Speaker 1: go see it. Well, I know some people are into it. Yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 1: But it was made for $ 80 million, and it grossed
- 1:49Speaker 1: $ 129 million. So you think, okay. Yeah, that's a profit.
- 1:52Speaker 2: That's a profit.
- 1:53Speaker 1: That's a profit. But it's in the books as a
- 1:55Speaker 1: flop because they expected over $ 200 million. And The Death
- 1:58Speaker 1: of Robin Hood, that was made for $ 20 million and
- 2:03Speaker 1: it made $ 9 million. Oh, last one. Animal Farm. I
- 2:07Speaker 1: don't remember Animal Farm. But that was made for $ 35
- 2:10Speaker 1: million and globally it made $ 6. 5 million.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Wow. And see, you're saying what the budget is to
- 2:17Speaker 2: make the film. Then there's all the promotion and everything
- 2:19Speaker 2: they put into it.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Maybe that's why they call some of these a flop
- 2:22Speaker 1: even though they made a profit. Right. Yeah, but anyway,
- 2:25Speaker 1: text us if you saw any of these.
- 2:29Speaker 2: 44363.
- 2:29Speaker 1: And we have a giveaway, don't we, now?
- 2:31Speaker 2: Yes, we do. We have a pair of tickets to
