Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: The Opportunity Party needs more time to hit five percent this election
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I don't reckon opportunity will hit five percent this election.
- 0:02Speaker 1: It's fun to flirt, isn't it. People get frustrated in
- 0:05Speaker 1: their relationships with their respective parties and then you go
- 0:08Speaker 1: out and flirt. But I was there when Colin Craig
- 0:10Speaker 1: got close and failed. Saw Gareth Morgan do the same.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Jeff Simmons remember him, had a crack, failed to. I
- 0:16Speaker 1: encourage anyone listening to actually look at their policies, do
- 0:19Speaker 1: the maths, and figure out for themselves how much worse
- 0:22Speaker 1: or bester I suppose you'll off. You'll be their new leader.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Is a great communicator databatic Qla Wong. Her main job
- 0:29Speaker 1: was an environmental carbon advisor to businesses. Now I don't
- 0:33Speaker 1: really know what that means, but she's lovely. She's really lovely,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and she's smart. The problem with getting to five percent
- 0:39Speaker 1: is timing. The closer we get to the election, this flirt,
- 0:43Speaker 1: this fascination, this honeymoon, if you will, will have worn off.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Voters will go into the booth trying to keep one
- 0:48Speaker 1: side in or one side out, and there is little
- 0:51Speaker 1: room for flights of fancy in a polling booth. Like opportunity.
- 0:55Speaker 1: The other thing people do in the polling booth is
- 0:57Speaker 1: takeout insurance by election week is pretty clear if you're listening,
- 1:01Speaker 1: if your is to the ground, who's doing well and
- 1:03Speaker 1: who is not, So voters take out insurance. It's why
- 1:06Speaker 1: I have said consistently since last year that I think
- 1:08Speaker 1: Winston will do well this year. Labor voters, not national
- 1:12Speaker 1: I think, will slide into his DMS. He's offering them
- 1:15Speaker 1: everything Hipkins is short of a labor government. As for
- 1:20Speaker 1: Opportunity or Top the Opportunities Party or whatever it is
- 1:24Speaker 1: they're called, well, you don't know which way they're going.
- 1:28Speaker 1: That is their strength, but it's also when it comes
- 1:31Speaker 1: down to the day of polling a weakness. For more
