- 0:29What is going on, everybody?
- 0:31Welcome to the Clydesdale
- 0:32Media Weight Loss Journey.
- 0:35My name is Scott Switz from
- 0:36the Clydesdale.
- 0:37She is Cheryl Nasso.
- 0:38She's my nutrition coach.
- 0:40And before we get into
- 0:41something about my weight loss journey,
- 0:44I need a huge shout out to
- 0:46a member of the Clydesdale family.
- 0:50It was officially released
- 0:51about half an hour ago that
- 0:54our very own Carolyn
- 0:55Prevost finished fifth in
- 0:57the open and won $5,000.
- 0:58Woohoo!
- 0:59That's awesome.
- 1:02Huge, huge shout out to Carolyn Prevost.
- 1:07It's funny because she's
- 1:09becoming one of my
- 1:10favorites very quickly.
- 1:13I don't know, just cause I,
- 1:14I connect with her and Lex
- 1:16like in the DM and I just
- 1:18feel like she's somebody
- 1:20that I could totally see
- 1:21myself having fun times, conversating,
- 1:25training with her,
- 1:26not on her level anymore, but yeah,
- 1:30we announced the top five last Thursday.
- 1:31The only change from that
- 1:33was Grace Walton was assessed a penalty.
- 1:37I saw that she fell from
- 1:38first to second and Von Rohrer.
- 1:44whatever her first name is,
- 1:46went from second to first.
- 1:48Wow.
- 1:53I don't know how I feel
- 1:53about the Open because of
- 1:55it only being three workouts.
- 1:56But still, it's an amazing feat.
- 1:58But I do think that the Open would
- 2:03be better if it was five
- 2:04when it comes to winning
- 2:05the open but I guess it's I
- 2:07guess like a single day
- 2:08competition it's like
- 2:09winning a single day
- 2:10competition is really what
- 2:11it's like so yeah I'm
- 2:14really conflicted with it
- 2:15because I think it is a lot
- 2:17on affiliate owners yeah to
- 2:20set it up I know my gym
- 2:22used to go all out for the
- 2:24open the five weeks by week
- 2:26five everybody's so dead
- 2:28Yeah, that's a good point.
- 2:30But you get what I'm saying.
- 2:31It's kind of like the
- 2:32difference between a one
- 2:33day CrossFit competition
- 2:34versus like a two or three day CrossFit.
- 2:36There's only so much.
- 2:37There's only, you're looking at it as a,
- 2:40as an athlete.
- 2:41I'm looking at it as I was
- 2:43the head judge for my gym back then.
- 2:45Yeah.
- 2:46Yeah.
- 2:46I gotcha.
- 2:46Like getting all the judges
- 2:48in and getting all
- 2:49everybody set up and all
- 2:50the heats assigned.
- 2:51And by week five, you're just like,
- 2:54please let this be over.
- 2:55Yeah.
- 2:56I gotcha.
- 2:57Well,
- 2:58Congratulations, Carolyn.
- 2:59Open's over.
- 3:00Moving on to quarterfinals.
- 3:0125% of people.
- 3:04See how that's going to go.
- 3:05That'll be the big one.
- 3:06I wonder how you're actually
- 3:07going to sign up.
- 3:09Let's talk about you, though.
- 3:10I've been seeing a lot more
- 3:13selfies of you posting,
- 3:15showing up at the gym,
- 3:16which is making me happy.
- 3:18How are you feeling being
- 3:19back in the community?
- 3:22Really good.
- 3:23It's funny because
- 3:26It's that spring break time.
- 3:29So every time I go back,
- 3:31there's people that I
- 3:31haven't seen in a while.
- 3:33So it's like a trickle
- 3:34effect as I go back.
- 3:37Does that make sense?
- 3:38Yeah.
- 3:41But it's been good.
- 3:42I took the one selfie and
- 3:45then Lex texted me and said,
- 3:47you need to do this every time.
- 3:49And the problem is sometimes
- 3:50I just forget.
- 3:51Yeah.
- 3:52I can't, I can barely walk at the end.
- 3:54So like getting to my car,
- 3:56last thing I think about is
- 3:58taking a selfie after I'm done.
- 4:00Well,
- 4:00how many days a week are you trying
- 4:01to get to the gym realistically?
- 4:03So the first two weeks I did
- 4:04two days a week.
- 4:06This week, I think I'm going to,
- 4:09I'm pretty positive.
- 4:10I'm going to get three to four.
- 4:12Okay.
- 4:13And you're still doing stuff
- 4:14at home the other days.
- 4:16Yeah.
- 4:17So I have this new meeting that,
- 4:20got scheduled before I
- 4:21blocked off my calendar.
- 4:22I need that to bleed out and like be done.
- 4:25Um, and so that's,
- 4:27they keep canceling them.
- 4:29So it looks good for the rest of the week.
- 4:31Um, I just got to get,
- 4:33I just got to get that to
- 4:34go away and then I'll be set up for.
- 4:37Yeah.
- 4:39This last question about that,
- 4:40because I know it sounds
- 4:41like you're always trying
- 4:42to like make it fit.
- 4:44What's the worst case
- 4:45scenario if you had to go after work?
- 4:48Um,
- 4:54It's a long story.
- 4:55I mean, end of the day,
- 4:57like that would not be a
- 4:59bad option because you're a
- 5:00night owl anyways.
- 5:02You know,
- 5:02you're not a morning person by any means.
- 5:06So not every day,
- 5:10but if there was a couple
- 5:11of days a week where like
- 5:12you need to get to the gym.
- 5:14and you go after work,
- 5:15like I'm assuming that there's probably,
- 5:18I just,
- 5:19I guess I'm just comfortable with
- 5:20my group at noon.
- 5:21It gets, it, it goes back to like,
- 5:26I was very imbalanced in my life.
- 5:28And like the evening time,
- 5:30my time for me and my wife,
- 5:33I had a feeling that was
- 5:33what was going to come up.
- 5:35But I think that it's also
- 5:36important that like asking
- 5:39yourself is a couple of days a week,
- 5:43you go into the gym and,
- 5:44really getting obsessive
- 5:47it's not but I also learned
- 5:49that if I work out in my
- 5:50garage there's a really
- 5:52good chance my wife comes
- 5:53out and joins me okay as
- 5:55long as you're getting
- 5:56something in I'm fine with
- 5:59that but if it's if it's
- 6:00you're skipping the gym and
- 6:02you're not going at all
- 6:04then that's not a good
- 6:05thing and that and that's
- 6:06also not balanced in a
- 6:07relationship either if you're having to
- 6:10oh,
- 6:11I can't go to the gym after work
- 6:12because that's, you know, sacred.
- 6:15It's just, at the end of the day,
- 6:17on your end, if something can,
- 6:18if your wife was like, hey,
- 6:19I want to go to a class at 5.30,
- 6:21you'd be like, go for it, you know?
- 6:24So-
- 6:26You know, obviously,
- 6:27if every single meal was
- 6:29missed because your wife
- 6:30was always at the gym,
- 6:32that'd be a different story.
- 6:33But just something to consider, you know,
- 6:35like, hey,
- 6:37do you mind if I go to the gym today?
- 6:38I know, you know,
- 6:39can we do dinner a little
- 6:40bit later together?
- 6:41I've been getting crushed at
- 6:43work and I really like
- 6:45would love to be able to go
- 6:45to the gym today.
- 6:46So just something to think about.
- 6:47Right.
- 6:48But you have to remember, too,
- 6:49that my podcast takes up
- 6:50some of my evenings, too.
- 6:51So it's it's that balance of it all.
- 6:55Yeah.
- 6:56Agreed.
- 6:56But you don't have a podcast
- 6:57every night and you, you know,
- 6:59your work schedule.
- 7:00So it might be like, if you're,
- 7:02if you know, like, Hey, I'm,
- 7:04I have a meeting on
- 7:05Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- 7:06Maybe those days are like, okay,
- 7:08I don't have a podcast.
- 7:09I'm going to go to the gym
- 7:09that day in the afternoon.
- 7:11Just, I, we don't have to focus on that,
- 7:14but I also want you to realize like,
- 7:16we all have to learn to be flexible,
- 7:18you know, like,
- 7:20If there's a day where you
- 7:21don't get to the gym and
- 7:23that keeps happening,
- 7:25you might have to be flexible sometimes.
- 7:26We all get into our comfort
- 7:27zone and sometimes we just
- 7:29have to shake it up a little bit.
- 7:31I think, like I said,
- 7:31as long as you're getting something in.
- 7:34But just to be honest,
- 7:35that's way down the road
- 7:36for me right now.
- 7:37Not way down the road, but down the road.
- 7:39My intensity is not anywhere near
- 7:43what it needs to be eventually.
- 7:46And I'm getting to the gym
- 7:48enough to get my community.
- 7:50And I do have a garage gym
- 7:51to be able to back it up.
- 7:54And I'm happy with that.
- 7:54Listen, y'all,
- 7:56you got to take a step back
- 7:57by thinking the intensity
- 7:58is what you need.
- 8:00I want you to stop focusing on that.
- 8:02I don't, that's what I said.
- 8:04As long as you're getting something.
- 8:05Intensity is just a word I'm
- 8:06using to describe that I am
- 8:08very limited in what I can do right now.
- 8:11But you're pushing your
- 8:12workouts because you're leaving sore.
- 8:15You're telling me that you're leaving,
- 8:16not walking.
- 8:17That's pushing intensity.
- 8:18It is, but like, okay.
- 8:22That's intensity.
- 8:23You don't need to be going
- 8:24any more intense.
- 8:26You're going at an intensity
- 8:27level right now.
- 8:28I think that what's happened
- 8:30is we all get like this, myself included.
- 8:32We're comparing ourselves to
- 8:33a previous version where
- 8:35what we're doing now would
- 8:37have been like a warmup.
- 8:39But our current level of
- 8:40fitness is making that feel
- 8:43pretty darn hard and
- 8:44leaving us pretty sore.
- 8:45So it's pretty effective.
- 8:47Like we're not going to talk
- 8:48about the schedule right
- 8:49now because I know that
- 8:50you're getting workouts in.
- 8:52But I'm just saying if it
- 8:53gets to be a place where
- 8:53like your schedule is
- 8:54getting in the way and all
- 8:56of a sudden you're not able
- 8:57to get to the gym two or
- 8:58three times a week,
- 8:59you might want to consider, hey,
- 9:00I might have to switch to
- 9:02an evening class if my
- 9:03schedule keeps getting in
- 9:05the way of me getting some
- 9:06community every couple of days.
- 9:07That's all I was saying.
- 9:09But we can move on from that topic.
- 9:14So Wadzombie says,
- 9:16I had a home gym a few
- 9:17times and gone to a global gym.
- 9:20I can't push myself the way I can.
- 9:21And I completely, completely agree.
- 9:25Yeah, agreed.
- 9:26But that's not where I'm at right now.
- 9:30And the thing is,
- 9:32do we need to push ourselves that hard?
- 9:38for a workout to be effective?
- 9:40That's the other question to
- 9:40ask ourselves because I've
- 9:42been doing CrossFit for a long time,
- 9:44just like y'all have.
- 9:44And I know when I first started,
- 9:48if I didn't leave the workout,
- 9:49like feeling like shit, like on my back,
- 9:53I'd be like, I didn't go hard enough.
- 9:56And I don't do that very often anymore.
- 10:00And I'm still getting pretty
- 10:03fit and I'm getting strong again.
- 10:05Yay.
- 10:06This isn't about me though.
- 10:08So just, just.
- 10:09So I'm in,
- 10:10I'm in a position where I'm just
- 10:11trying to flush stuff out.
- 10:12I'm trying to get back to
- 10:14where I can do most things again.
- 10:17Yep.
- 10:17I am still limited in what I
- 10:19learned yesterday is I under fatigue.
- 10:23I can't lay on my back.
- 10:25Hmm.
- 10:28I cannot breathe.
- 10:29So there's still some kind
- 10:31of fluid in there working its way out.
- 10:35I can do it in warmup,
- 10:37but the minute I get under fatigue,
- 10:40I cannot.
- 10:41So like bench press was in
- 10:42the workout yesterday.
- 10:44So I just, in the middle of the workout,
- 10:46switched to seated dumbbell
- 10:48strict presses.
- 10:49Yeah.
- 10:51just so I'm still moving.
- 10:53I'm still getting a stimulus
- 10:56and I'm not laying on my back.
- 10:59Well,
- 10:59let's kind of go rolling in away from
- 11:02the workouts a little bit and talk.
- 11:03I know that you had your
- 11:04cardiology follow-up.
- 11:06So do you want to fill us in on that?
- 11:09Yeah.
- 11:09So to close out the
- 11:11workout stuff I asked him
- 11:13about doing the workouts
- 11:15he's all for it keep doing
- 11:16it he thinks it's awesome
- 11:18um but just listen to my
- 11:21body for now if it's
- 11:23talking to me modify to
- 11:25something else um and the
- 11:27other thing he said to me
- 11:28is uh no pre-workout yeah I
- 11:32would agree he doesn't want
- 11:33you jacking your heart rate
- 11:34up yeah so which I have not
- 11:37been doing yeah but he said
- 11:39yeah you don't need that
- 11:41I love that a doctor tells a
- 11:43CrossFitter to listen to their body.
- 11:47Yeah, I know how to do that.
- 11:50We are all, I'm just, I'm making a joke.
- 11:53We're just notorious for
- 11:54like CrossFit communities.
- 11:56As a coach, I remember these days,
- 11:58you go in to coach a class
- 12:00and you see the workouts
- 12:01pull-ups and you see that
- 12:03guy come in and he's like
- 12:04holding his shoulder and
- 12:05he's like doing this number
- 12:07and he's like stretching and he's this.
- 12:10And he's like, I'm like, hey,
- 12:12your shoulder.
- 12:12Okay.
- 12:13It's like, yeah,
- 12:13I just got a little funk
- 12:14and I'm just going to like
- 12:15roll it out a little bit.
- 12:16And I'm like, why don't we modify?
- 12:19He's like in the workout.
- 12:20He's like, no, I'm all right.
- 12:21I'm all right.
- 12:22Two days later, the guy's like,
- 12:24can't lift up my arm.
- 12:26It's like, dude, just scale the ring rows.
- 12:28We don't know how to listen to our bodies.
- 12:30But anyways,
- 12:31I'm glad to hear that the
- 12:32cardiologist is on board
- 12:33with you staying fit.
- 12:35Yeah, they also put me on, I have a,
- 12:39I had to get one of those cardio mobiles.
- 12:42Okay.
- 12:44It takes a portable EKG and
- 12:47tracks it on my phone.
- 12:48Okay.
- 12:49That's good.
- 12:50So it's a way that if I'm in,
- 12:53if I feel weird, I can take it.
- 12:56If it detects the irregularity,
- 12:59I can send that PDF
- 13:00directly to my doctor.
- 13:01Okay.
- 13:02Gotcha.
- 13:03Yeah.
- 13:05Well, that's good.
- 13:06So how have you been doing
- 13:08with steps and moving outside of the gym?
- 13:09You see if it's pulling up
- 13:10on my Apple health.
- 13:17Sorry, I had to cough there.
- 13:18That's okay.
- 13:20Um, I'm walking a lot.
- 13:22I don't know why my watch is not tracking.
- 13:24I don't know if it needs cleaned.
- 13:28I don't know what's going on.
- 13:30Um, it doesn't even track workouts or.
- 13:35It's, I don't know.
- 13:36It's either that or I got a
- 13:37new iPhone like a week and a half ago.
- 13:40And ever since everything is
- 13:41kind of jacked up.
- 13:43Okay.
- 13:45Is it on your, do you,
- 13:46is there an app on your
- 13:47watch for your watch that you,
- 13:50that tracks the data?
- 13:53There is an aspect of my
- 13:56watch that tracks that.
- 13:59But I don't know what's going on with it.
- 14:01Yeah.
- 14:03Yeah.
- 14:04I mean,
- 14:05I don't know if it's the phone and
- 14:07the settings changing
- 14:08because it's a new phone
- 14:09and everything reset.
- 14:11Like I can see your weekly averages,
- 14:13but I can't see your dailies.
- 14:16And that's really weird.
- 14:19Oh no, I can, I can see your dailies,
- 14:21but I mean,
- 14:22the highest I'm seeing is a 4,500.
- 14:26So I don't, yeah, like you said,
- 14:27it might be something funky with your
- 14:31watch but I would definitely
- 14:32be checking because it's
- 14:33it's definitely tracking
- 14:34something but you know not
- 14:37maybe tracking all of them
- 14:38or if that sounds about
- 14:39right that might be about
- 14:41right based on your
- 14:42schedule you know like we
- 14:44went well I went for a long
- 14:45walk last night with my dog
- 14:47and I worked out yesterday
- 14:48and it barely tracked any
- 14:49steps at all well maybe
- 14:51that's realistically all
- 14:51you had though I mean when
- 14:53you say a long walk with
- 14:54your dog if you go for a 30
- 14:56minute walk that's probably about
- 15:00Maybe 2000 steps.
- 15:02I mean, we're talking two hour walk.
- 15:06One hour walk, double the half hour.
- 15:08Okay.
- 15:09One hour walk.
- 15:11So if I walk an hour,
- 15:14I'm probably going to be at
- 15:15about 8,000 steps.
- 15:16Right.
- 15:16That's what I'm telling you.
- 15:20Like,
- 15:21And I told you like last week I went and I,
- 15:23and I filmed Rudy and I
- 15:25walked around his gym like
- 15:26the whole time getting
- 15:28different angles and it
- 15:29never recorded hardly a step.
- 15:32Like, so I don't,
- 15:33maybe I need to get a new watch.
- 15:35I don't know.
- 15:35Maybe what you can do is
- 15:36when you go for a walk,
- 15:37turn on the walk as a fitness thing.
- 15:41Try that this time.
- 15:43Okay.
- 15:43So whenever you go for a walk,
- 15:45turn on walk.
- 15:47like whatever it says,
- 15:48record fitness or whatever, like on my,
- 15:50on my Apple watch,
- 15:50it says record workout.
- 15:52And it gives me the option,
- 15:53like click to record a walk
- 15:55and it will record the walk this way.
- 15:57I can say, Hey,
- 15:57he's actually going for a walk.
- 16:00Um, but just cause I'm,
- 16:01I'm checking in on all the little things.
- 16:03Okay.
- 16:03Now we're going to go into, uh,
- 16:05into Scott's nutrition.
- 16:07So what is going on, Jake?
- 16:11What is bringing,
- 16:11what are we talking about here?
- 16:14I started talking about
- 16:15walking and now I see notes
- 16:17about notes about erections and sausages.
- 16:20So I don't know what I
- 16:21missed in the chat here, but Oh,
- 16:23here we go.
- 16:25Working out is like cooking sausages.
- 16:27If you go too fast,
- 16:27you'll burn them and not do
- 16:28them properly.
- 16:29It takes you long.
- 16:31You're not going to eat.
- 16:32Oh, interesting.
- 16:34Heidi told me not to read his comments.
- 16:36So I'm just going to stop there.
- 16:37Although he did mention that
- 16:38you got a haircut.
- 16:40I did.
- 16:41Yeah, it does look nice.
- 16:42First one since I went in the hospital.
- 16:45Yeah.
- 16:45All right.
- 16:46Well, now that's done,
- 16:47let's kind of go into nutrition.
- 16:48So I did notice that last
- 16:51week was a little off.
- 16:53So just kind of fill me in, you know,
- 16:55Monday, you had a good day,
- 16:57solid day log.
- 16:58Tuesday, you only had breakfast and lunch.
- 17:03And then Wednesday, you had breakfast,
- 17:06lunch, and dinner logged.
- 17:09No snacks.
- 17:10Thursday was nothing.
- 17:12Friday was nothing.
- 17:15Saturday was a normal day.
- 17:18Little low on protein.
- 17:21Sunday seemed like a normal day.
- 17:22So I guess fill me in on
- 17:23like the later part of the week.
- 17:26So again, I thought,
- 17:29unless I'm dreaming it,
- 17:30I thought I entered stuff in to my phone.
- 17:34I don't know what's going on.
- 17:35Um,
- 17:38I ate normally those two days.
- 17:41So I don't, I don't understand.
- 17:42Yeah.
- 17:44So let's talk about this.
- 17:45Cause this is something that
- 17:45I think that we got to address.
- 17:48All right.
- 17:49When it comes to you entering your food,
- 17:52right?
- 17:52When are you entering your food at?
- 17:56So I usually enter the first
- 17:58two meals at around lunchtime.
- 18:00Okay.
- 18:01And then I eat dinner and I
- 18:03log all that right after lunch.
- 18:05Okay.
- 18:06So when you log your food,
- 18:08it shows up in the app.
- 18:11Yes.
- 18:11What I see.
- 18:12Yeah.
- 18:13And it's, and it syncs on the computer.
- 18:15Like I've used my fitness pal.
- 18:17It's got a computer desktop and that.
- 18:19So if you're not, if you're,
- 18:22you have to be logging it because you're,
- 18:26if you didn't log it, like,
- 18:28how are you checking to make sure like,
- 18:29all right, I'm on track for my day.
- 18:32I'm going to hit my nutrition targets.
- 18:33I'm not like I'm,
- 18:36I just want to know how
- 18:37you're doing that if you're
- 18:38not actually taking a look at it.
- 18:40Because I would be after lunch,
- 18:42if I go back in there, I'm like, oh,
- 18:43it didn't seem to save.
- 18:45I would have been like, okay,
- 18:46let me take a look at what
- 18:47was logged and not logged.
- 18:49Maybe it didn't save right.
- 18:51Like you're not getting that
- 18:52happening to you or you're
- 18:54not addressing that.
- 18:56I haven't been this week, no.
- 18:59Because I want to check in
- 18:59on that kinds of stuff.
- 19:00Because I don't want you
- 19:01starting to slip up on your
- 19:02tracking and all that kinds of stuff.
- 19:04And, you know, oh, I just, you know,
- 19:05I was pretty much eating the same thing.
- 19:07Because I know you don't eat
- 19:08the same thing every day.
- 19:09You eat some of the same things,
- 19:11but not every meal is the same.
- 19:12And I don't want us to get lax again,
- 19:14because that's when you
- 19:14stop taking care of yourself.
- 19:16And I want to make sure that
- 19:18just because you're out of
- 19:18the clear with the doctors,
- 19:20that you're not starting to, you know,
- 19:24kind of take the foot off
- 19:25the gas a little bit.
- 19:26I want you being smooth sailing.
- 19:29I mean, I tracked all weekend and,
- 19:32and checked at night and
- 19:35saw where I was at.
- 19:37Yep.
- 19:37Protein is still a little bit low.
- 19:40So that's going to be the
- 19:41main thing that I really
- 19:42want to focus on today is
- 19:44just getting the protein up, you know?
- 19:47So I think it really comes
- 19:49down to just having one
- 19:51more snack or including
- 19:54protein with your snack.
- 19:56You really don't snack a whole bunch,
- 19:59but when you do,
- 20:00I want you trying to find a
- 20:02way to get some protein in
- 20:03with that snack.
- 20:06That's really where you're missing that.
- 20:09In terms of food quality,
- 20:11I do see you getting in more veggies,
- 20:13which I love.
- 20:15I think that you're doing a
- 20:17good job with the grains.
- 20:18Let me just take a look at the fiber.
- 20:19Again,
- 20:21it's kind of hard because I really
- 20:23only have
- 20:26Uh, one, two,
- 20:28I've got four days really
- 20:30where I can take a look at everything,
- 20:32but for the most part,
- 20:33fibers over close to 30, which I'm good.
- 20:36How's your, how's your gut been?
- 20:37Uh, much, much better.
- 20:41Okay.
- 20:41Burping is getting better.
- 20:43Yep.
- 20:43Good sleep.
- 20:47For most nights, it's pretty good.
- 20:51Sunday night was not great,
- 20:53but the rest of the nights
- 20:54have been even better than before.
- 20:57Okay.
- 20:58And what about your appetite?
- 21:04It hasn't been... Like
- 21:08you're usually getting a
- 21:09couple of snacks in and
- 21:10right now I feel like
- 21:11you're kind of... I have
- 21:13not been hungry the last few days.
- 21:17Now, usually like after I work out,
- 21:19it's hard for me to eat.
- 21:20Like I really have to force myself.
- 21:23But yesterday I didn't have to.
- 21:25But then I wasn't hungry for snacks.
- 21:28Yeah.
- 21:29So like so far today,
- 21:30you have nothing logged so far today.
- 21:33Right.
- 21:34So when do you typically log
- 21:36your food for today?
- 21:37So Tuesdays are my busiest day.
- 21:41Like I have zero time.
- 21:42I'm like catching things in the middle.
- 21:45Um, so it would be after this podcast,
- 21:47I would log.
- 21:49And how do you plan?
- 21:50I think, but the reason I'm says,
- 21:53I think this is why you're
- 21:53missing the mark on your protein,
- 21:56because it's now going to be fourth.
- 21:57It's four 30.
- 21:58We're going to get off here.
- 22:00You probably have some loose ends stuff to,
- 22:02to, to, to finish up.
- 22:03Then you're going to get ready for dinner.
- 22:05And now you're trying to log
- 22:07and figure out how much
- 22:08protein you've already hit
- 22:09for today and where you're
- 22:11at with your calories and
- 22:12then trying to finish off the night.
- 22:13And I think that that's
- 22:14where you're missing the
- 22:15mark a little bit.
- 22:16So I think that we need to get you,
- 22:17I think at breakfast time,
- 22:20like go ahead and log breakfast, lunch,
- 22:22and a snack.
- 22:22Then there's another dinner
- 22:24as your variable.
- 22:25And this way you can have
- 22:26that flexibility for dinnertime, you know,
- 22:29before, before your day gets crazy busy,
- 22:31I would do it in the
- 22:32beginning of your day.
- 22:34when you're not having to
- 22:35worry about things or
- 22:36during one of those
- 22:37wonderful meetings you have
- 22:38where you can just be
- 22:39zoning out and not thinking
- 22:41about work for five minutes.
- 22:44Yeah.
- 22:45That's where,
- 22:45and I'm only doing this
- 22:47because I know that you
- 22:48have goals and like, I care about you.
- 22:51And if I don't be honest with what I need,
- 22:53then we're not going to get further.
- 22:54So like right now,
- 22:55I think we need to get you
- 22:57a little bit more
- 22:57accountable to pre-tracking
- 22:59because you're still not
- 23:01hitting consistently on
- 23:02your protein numbers.
- 23:03And when I say hitting them,
- 23:04you don't have to be like on the dot,
- 23:06but like being at 105 grams
- 23:08of protein a day is just not enough.
- 23:11You know, I want to get that number up 125,
- 23:1369 grams.
- 23:14Like I want to get that number up.
- 23:17So that's what I want you to
- 23:18focus on this week.
- 23:20Okay.
- 23:22Okay.
- 23:23Scale wise, you know,
- 23:25your weight seems to be moving down.
- 23:28So 284.2, that was today.
- 23:31Yep.
- 23:32Okay.
- 23:33And I mean, that's motivating, but again,
- 23:35I don't want it to be like, you know,
- 23:37missing the mark on what
- 23:38matters in terms of your health.
- 23:40You know, when it comes to losing weight,
- 23:43people have to realize this,
- 23:45your body is not,
- 23:47when you're losing weight
- 23:49and you're not getting in enough protein,
- 23:52your body is going to want
- 23:54to utilize and burn off muscle.
- 23:58why because muscle is
- 24:00expensive when it comes to
- 24:02being in a calorie deficit
- 24:04remind yourself that you
- 24:05are taking away energy from
- 24:06your body you're pulling
- 24:08from your bank account okay
- 24:11and your muscle tissue is
- 24:13expensive it requires
- 24:15energy so in a calorie
- 24:17deficit your body is going
- 24:19to be like okay I really
- 24:20want to hold on to this energy
- 24:23What can I get rid of that
- 24:24is costing me so much energy?
- 24:28Oh, this muscle tissue right here.
- 24:31And this is why it's really
- 24:32even more important when
- 24:33somebody is not lifting often,
- 24:36which you're getting back
- 24:36into the gym to ensure that
- 24:38they're getting in enough
- 24:39protein because people
- 24:40focus so much on the scale
- 24:43and they're not focusing on
- 24:44the fact that you want to lose fat.
- 24:47You don't want to lose
- 24:47weight to stay the same body fat.
- 24:50You want to lose fat.
- 24:52So we've got to get that
- 24:53protein number up.
- 24:55That's going to make the
- 24:56biggest changes in your physique,
- 24:58how you look,
- 25:00and also your blood
- 25:01biomarkers and all that
- 25:02kind of stuff as well.
- 25:04So that's why I'm really
- 25:06pushing the protein this week.
- 25:10Heidi wants pictures.
- 25:17You're being quiet right now.
- 25:19Well, no, I'm just thinking.
- 25:22Yeah.
- 25:23Just thinking about what?
- 25:25The picture thing.
- 25:26I don't know.
- 25:27You don't need to do that.
- 25:28Yeah.
- 25:29That's just a lot for me.
- 25:30We can't even get you to
- 25:31take a selfie at the gym.
- 25:32We're not taking photos of
- 25:33your food every day.
- 25:35Although I did think it would be cool.
- 25:36I did one of these recently
- 25:38of what I eat in a day.
- 25:39It would be really cool to
- 25:40have like a Scott's what I eat in a day,
- 25:43but we can,
- 25:43we can maybe do that next week.
- 25:46Like have you post.
- 25:48Okay.
- 25:48we can do it like we're not every day,
- 25:50but like have a,
- 25:50what we could even do it on this podcast,
- 25:53show the photos too.
- 25:55You can post on your stories
- 25:56and we can highlight it here,
- 25:58but that would be cool for
- 26:00us to kind of see here's
- 26:01what I eat in a day, breakfast, lunch,
- 26:03snack, dinner, snack, whatever it is.
- 26:07But I really want to get
- 26:08that protein number up for sure.
- 26:10So.
- 26:11Okay.
- 26:12Yeah, we can do that.
- 26:13Yeah.
- 26:14So, um,
- 26:16We will settle for a selfie
- 26:18from Cheryl every day.
- 26:19Nick, I think we're,
- 26:20I think maybe Nick is
- 26:21trying to ask me at the
- 26:22dinner or something.
- 26:26I'm just kidding.
- 26:27I'm just kidding.
- 26:28I got to put my school girl,
- 26:29my school teacher glasses on then maybe.
- 26:33So, but what is Jake talking about here?
- 26:36Everything we eat ever played beer, man.
- 26:38I'm looking at some of these, uh,
- 26:41Now we're talking drinking games.
- 26:43We got, we got to watch this guy, Jake,
- 26:44man,
- 26:45talking about sausages and erections
- 26:47is now he's bringing up
- 26:48drinking pints of beers.
- 26:53Interesting how things can
- 26:54just go off in different
- 26:56directions on this episode.
- 26:59All right.
- 26:59So I'm in my life.
- 27:00I was beer man a lot.
- 27:03Not me.
- 27:03I was never really a beer drinker.
- 27:05I was, you know,
- 27:07it's going to be so funny.
- 27:07You guys probably wouldn't.
- 27:08What would you think if you
- 27:10were to guess what my drink
- 27:12of choice would have been?
- 27:14What do you think it would have been?
- 27:23Gin and tonic.
- 27:27Oh man.
- 27:28If I was to guess yours,
- 27:29I think that you're a craft
- 27:31beer kind of guy.
- 27:34Um, yeah.
- 27:35Later in life.
- 27:36That definitely was.
- 27:37Yeah.
- 27:38That's what I switched to.
- 27:40Growing up.
- 27:41I, and when I say growing up twenties,
- 27:44when I actually used to drink,
- 27:45it was Jaeger Meister.
- 27:46I love me some Jaeger Meister.
- 27:50Jaeger Meister and Jaeger
- 27:52bombs ever had an Irish car bomb.
- 27:56Yes, ma'am.
- 27:57Man.
- 27:58I couldn't even think about
- 28:00drinking one of those right now, but,
- 28:02and Guinness dark beer.
- 28:05It's probably the furthest
- 28:06thing from anybody's
- 28:08thoughts of what I would be drinking,
- 28:10but that's what I used to drink.
- 28:11And now I don't.
- 28:13I love bourbon,
- 28:15but my favorite liquor is rum.
- 28:18Anything with rum.
- 28:19Yeah.
- 28:20And then during the winter,
- 28:23I love like a dark beer, like Stout,
- 28:25Porter.
- 28:25Yeah.
- 28:26That's like I was Guinness.
- 28:27I like the Guinness.
- 28:30During the summer, I like an IPA.
- 28:32Now I just don't really drink.
- 28:34Yeah.
- 28:35I haven't had a drop of
- 28:37alcohol in a while.
- 28:38It's a waste of calories for me.
- 28:41And I get it.
- 28:41Some people need that for me.
- 28:44I'm like 25 carbs.
- 28:46I could totally do some food.
- 28:49I'd rather have the chips.
- 28:51That's just me.
- 28:52But yeah.
- 28:54So Chris says, lost my pointer here.
- 28:58There we go.
- 28:5830 pack was my favorite brand.
- 29:02even in my biggest drinking
- 29:03days I was a beer snob if
- 29:06I'm drinking then it better
- 29:07taste good yeah like I
- 29:09didn't I never got into the
- 29:10cheap stuff like the
- 29:11coronas or the uh uh like
- 29:14even worse like bush or
- 29:17milwaukee's best or oh man
- 29:20oh how about cores that was
- 29:22a pretty cheap beer too
- 29:23right yeah you're that's
- 29:25still high end for what
- 29:26some of the stuff my friends would drink
- 29:30When I was in high school
- 29:31and we were drinking,
- 29:32we would drink cheap shit too.
- 29:35Absolute vodka.
- 29:39You're really bougie.
- 29:40If you think that's bottom of the barrel.
- 29:43There was another one that was worse.
- 29:46Not absolute.
- 29:49It wasn't Smirnoff,
- 29:50but I believe it began with
- 29:51an S. I can't think of the
- 29:52name of it right now.
- 29:54That's how long ago it was.
- 29:57So we have,
- 29:58we have Kroger shopping stores
- 30:00here and they have their
- 30:01own brand of vodka.
- 30:03And that's what my daughter,
- 30:05when she went to college, she said, we,
- 30:08we drank shitty K and that
- 30:10was Kroger vodka.
- 30:12We drank horrible stuff.
- 30:14So I don't know.
- 30:16But anyways, this is not an alcohol show.
- 30:18This is a, this is a nutrition show.
- 30:21But I guess alcohol is a part of that.
- 30:23So, but yeah.
- 30:24So what about this week?
- 30:25Anything coming up this week for you?
- 30:27Easter.
- 30:29Oh, that's true.
- 30:30That's, this is a good thing.
- 30:31So good Friday and also Easter Sunday.
- 30:35So you have Easter plans with your family?
- 30:37Yeah.
- 30:37My mom is coming over.
- 30:39My nephew is smoking a
- 30:42brisket and it's been made into pastrami.
- 30:45Ooh,
- 30:46that's different for our Easter dinner.
- 30:49Yeah.
- 30:49So pastrami may be my
- 30:52favorite thing in the world.
- 30:57So yeah, super stoked about that.
- 30:58My grandfather used to love
- 31:00pastrami sandwiches, pastrami on rye.
- 31:03I was definitely more of a Reuben,
- 31:07corned beef, little sauerkraut,
- 31:10Swiss cheese,
- 31:11and the old Thousand Island dressing.
- 31:12That was my thing.
- 31:14But he liked the pastrami on rye.
- 31:15So that's good.
- 31:16So your mom's coming.
- 31:17Do you guys have kids or
- 31:19anything that you have to entertain?
- 31:20Easter egg hunting and all
- 31:21that stuff or no?
- 31:23I don't think so.
- 31:24Not this time.
- 31:25Yeah.
- 31:26My nephew will probably do
- 31:27something with him.
- 31:27We'll do an Easter dinner
- 31:29and that's pretty much what
- 31:30we're going to do.
- 31:31So obviously church,
- 31:32I'll go to church good Friday and Sunday.
- 31:35Um, so, uh,
- 31:37wide zombie rabbit is lean meat healthy.
- 31:40So just catch Easter bunny.
- 31:43Yeah.
- 31:43Roasted on spit.
- 31:45Yeah.
- 31:48But yeah, well that's,
- 31:49that's going to be a fun weekend.
- 31:50So I think the main thing
- 31:51this week is just really
- 31:52getting you back into being
- 31:53consistent with,
- 31:55your tracking,
- 31:56obviously Easter meal
- 31:57doesn't have to be tracked.
- 31:58You can take that day and
- 32:00enjoy with your family.
- 32:01Just like I tell all of my clients,
- 32:03you know,
- 32:04if you probably don't get an
- 32:05Easter basket at this point in your life,
- 32:07or do you,
- 32:08does your wife get you an Easter basket?
- 32:10I don't think so.
- 32:10Yeah.
- 32:11My mom still gets me Easter candy.
- 32:14She does, but she's evolved.
- 32:16She she's kind of learned what I,
- 32:18what I will eat now.
- 32:20So she's not,
- 32:23she'll get like dark
- 32:23chocolate almonds or like whatever.
- 32:25She'll,
- 32:25she'll find things that she'll
- 32:26think I'll eat.
- 32:27So, and it'll last me for like six months.
- 32:30She knows I love my favorite
- 32:32is Reese's are probably the
- 32:34one candy that I do really like,
- 32:36but it's only the seasonal ones.
- 32:38Like the Reese's eggs,
- 32:40the Reese's pumpkins,
- 32:42the Reese's Christmas trees, the hearts.
- 32:45It's not even like the
- 32:46little Reese's that I like,
- 32:47but the actual,
- 32:48cause they have more peanut butter.
- 32:50So she'll probably get me some of those.
- 32:52So I'm not a chocolate guy,
- 32:54but I love my favorite
- 32:56candy in the world is jelly beans.
- 32:59Yeah.
- 33:00The real jelly beans, like the,
- 33:02like the old fashioned ones,
- 33:03or do you like the,
- 33:04like the jelly bellies and the like,
- 33:06cause you know,
- 33:07obviously the old fashioned
- 33:08ones I'm talking about,
- 33:09like the ones that you would get,
- 33:10like the, what were they called?
- 33:11Bracks, braches.
- 33:13Is that the brand?
- 33:14Like the real old, yeah.
- 33:15Like the regular traditional jelly beans.
- 33:17No, I'm the same way.
- 33:18Starburst jelly beans.
- 33:19No.
- 33:20If it's made by a jelly company,
- 33:21it's probably the best.
- 33:23So like Welch's is making jelly beans now.
- 33:25Those are the ones I like.
- 33:27I like the Starburst jelly beans.
- 33:29I like those too.
- 33:31When those came out, I was like, oh,
- 33:32these are awesome.
- 33:33But I like those.
- 33:35And I like Jelly Bellies,
- 33:36but I like the Starburst ones the best.
- 33:39Those are my favorite.
- 33:39I don't want my jelly bean
- 33:41to taste like popcorn.
- 33:42Yeah, I don't buy those ones.
- 33:44I do like going to the Jelly
- 33:46Belly stores where you can get your own
- 33:49pick them out.
- 33:50They do have some gross flavors though.
- 33:52Yeah.
- 33:53And I never got into the whole, like,
- 33:55you know how you can like take a,
- 33:57take one of these and one
- 33:58of these and it tastes like
- 33:59strawberry cheesecake or
- 34:00you did get all that into all that stuff.
- 34:03But, um, but yeah, well, well, cool.
- 34:06Well,
- 34:06hopefully you'll get some Easter
- 34:07candy and, uh, fit that into your plan.
- 34:09Don't let your blood sugar, by the way,
- 34:11how's your blood sugar been this week?
- 34:12Good.
- 34:13We're now in the one teens.
- 34:17So another 10 points down.
- 34:21Yeah, doing well.
- 34:23Awesome.
- 34:24So I think that you're on
- 34:25the track to get off of the medications.
- 34:26I think that you will be.
- 34:28Hey man,
- 34:29this is nutrition is candy and alcohol.
- 34:31I mean, that's part of it.
- 34:33In fact, Nick was on my,
- 34:34I did a podcast this
- 34:35morning on carnivore.
- 34:37Uh,
- 34:37so if y'all haven't had a chance to
- 34:38listen to that one, you can, but I mean,
- 34:41talked about the fact that
- 34:42like life is moderation, you know,
- 34:44like shouldn't feel guilty
- 34:45for enjoying a little bit
- 34:47of chocolate on Easter or a
- 34:49few jelly beans.
- 34:49There's nothing wrong with that.
- 34:51Now, if every day you're just, you know,
- 34:53filling your diet with
- 34:55chocolate and jelly beans,
- 34:55that's a different story.
- 34:56So.
- 34:58Heidi actually said,
- 34:59just eat extra pastrami for more protein.
- 35:01Yeah, it's a whole bunch of sodium.
- 35:03And I also talked about
- 35:05today on the podcast,
- 35:07the whole... Extra sodium?
- 35:09Yeah.
- 35:10It's a lot of sodium.
- 35:11Salty.
- 35:13Pastrami.
- 35:15Isn't it cured?
- 35:17It's pickled.
- 35:18Yeah, it's cured, right?
- 35:19They use a lot of salt.
- 35:23I guess less if you're making it at home,
- 35:25more if you're buying it store-bought.
- 35:27But what I was going to say
- 35:29was people talk about the
- 35:34whole meat being linked to cancer thing.
- 35:38And people don't recognize
- 35:39that like the main reason
- 35:41that there's one specific
- 35:43factor that really
- 35:45differentiates the whole
- 35:46meat link to cancer.
- 35:47It's talked about my podcast today is like,
- 35:49if you're charring your meat,
- 35:51you're smoking your meat,
- 35:52you're doing that stuff.
- 35:53You are, you are putting yourself in,
- 35:57you're exposing yourself to carcinogens,
- 35:59not telling you not to
- 36:00smoke your food and not telling you that.
- 36:02But like when people talk
- 36:03about the cancer link with
- 36:05protein and animal protein,
- 36:07that really is the one
- 36:08thing that they're not
- 36:09considering is the way you
- 36:10cook your protein does
- 36:12expose you to different things, you know?
- 36:14So like you, they tell you not to,
- 36:16you shouldn't be like
- 36:17literally burning your food.
- 36:19Although we all like that,
- 36:20like nothing tastes better
- 36:21than like the crusty skin,
- 36:23unlike protein that's been on the grill.
- 36:24So yeah.
- 36:25Yeah.
- 36:26If you're burning your food on a smoker,
- 36:28you're doing it wrong.
- 36:29Well,
- 36:30the smoke in general is meant to not be,
- 36:33you know,
- 36:33ingested is what they're saying.
- 36:35I'm just going down the
- 36:36rabbit hole of why people are like, oh,
- 36:38protein and animal proteins
- 36:39linked to cancer.
- 36:40It's like, it's not the protein.
- 36:41It's usually the method of cooking.
- 36:44I wanna put this up here
- 36:46that some of us do not have
- 36:47an internal moderator, sadly.
- 36:49So here's the deal is we all
- 36:51do have an internal moderator,
- 36:53but when it comes to the
- 36:57problem is that we're no
- 36:59longer listening to our
- 37:00internal moderator.
- 37:02We are no longer living in a
- 37:04time where there is limited
- 37:08access to food and all we
- 37:10have access to is plants and animals.
- 37:13You can find food on every corner.
- 37:17You can smell food in the kitchen cooking.
- 37:20You can go to your cupboard.
- 37:21So there's food everywhere.
- 37:23And there's also a lot of
- 37:26thoughts around foods and
- 37:28beliefs about foods and
- 37:31people having beliefs about
- 37:34what they need to be doing with foods.
- 37:36I shouldn't be eating that.
- 37:37I can't be doing this.
- 37:39If you have two kids playing
- 37:40in a playground and
- 37:43you ask a kid if you want
- 37:44something and he's like, no,
- 37:47I don't want that.
- 37:47But then the other kid
- 37:48starts playing with it and
- 37:51now he wants it and he can't have it.
- 37:53And you tell him he can't have it.
- 37:54He wants it more.
- 37:55It's like, it's just common nature.
- 37:57It's like human nature is
- 37:58that when we tell ourselves
- 37:59that we can't have something,
- 38:01we suddenly want it more.
- 38:03It makes it more desirable.
- 38:04So our internal moderator is no longer,
- 38:08we're not honoring it
- 38:09anymore because people are
- 38:11so one exposed to the fact
- 38:14that they can have food
- 38:14whenever they want.
- 38:15And two,
- 38:16but also trying to make sense of
- 38:18the external signals that
- 38:20they're getting from all of the,
- 38:22all of the thoughts that are being fed,
- 38:24you know, whether it's,
- 38:25you shouldn't have this, this is bad,
- 38:27this is good, all that kinds of stuff.
- 38:29So
- 38:30It just ends up making it that.
- 38:32And add to that people that
- 38:34are always trying to
- 38:35control their weight.
- 38:37If you're always trying to
- 38:38watch your calories and
- 38:40lose fat and never just
- 38:42letting yourself eat to satiety,
- 38:45now you have other signals
- 38:47internally that your body
- 38:48is shelling out leptin and ghrelin,
- 38:51saying, hey,
- 38:52I'm hungry because you're not
- 38:54feeding me enough.
- 38:55And it's going to make you
- 38:55crave those things.
- 38:57And I say this because I
- 38:58love when a client
- 39:00has dealt with these issues
- 39:01and they start working with
- 39:03me and they're like,
- 39:04I can't believe I finally
- 39:06feel like after so many
- 39:07years I can have a slice of
- 39:09cake and not feel like I
- 39:11have to eat five slices of cake.
- 39:13Or I can actually control
- 39:15myself and enjoy myself.
- 39:17Or I can say no and not feel
- 39:19guilty about it.
- 39:19It's something I feel very
- 39:21passionate about.
- 39:22I love helping people find balance.
- 39:24I just want to say that.
- 39:26Yeah.
- 39:29All right.
- 39:30Well, so extra pastrami, extra protein.
- 39:35Sausages, erections.
- 39:37Keep the fiber up.
- 39:39Yep, for sure.
- 39:40So here we go again.
- 39:43Jake and this talk is just,
- 39:46we're going to end up
- 39:47getting banned from YouTube.
- 39:48I got to stop talking about it.
- 39:50But anyways, well,
- 39:51I guess we'll talk next
- 39:52week and we'll get to recap
- 39:53Easter and hopefully we'll
- 39:55have some solid workouts in this week.
- 39:57Sounds good.
- 39:59With that, we will head out for the day.
- 40:02And thank you for everybody in the chat.
- 40:05We will catch everybody next
- 40:06time on Gladstone Media
- 40:08Weight Loss Journey.
- 40:09Bye, guys.
