- 0:21Speaker 1: Bomani Jones is with us now the right time with
- 0:23Speaker 1: Bomani Jones wherever you get your podcast. I have told
- 0:26Speaker 1: you went to the Sphere to check out Wizard of Oz?
- 0:29Speaker 2: How was it?
- 0:29Speaker 1: How was Wizard of Oz? And how was your first
- 0:31Speaker 1: experience at the Sphere?
- 0:34Speaker 3: I mean there were worse ways to spend an hour
- 0:36Speaker 3: on a Saturday afternoon. There were not more expensive ways
- 0:40Speaker 3: to spend an hour on a Saturday afternoon. Like you're
- 0:42Speaker 3: not you're not quite intimately aware of how short the
- 0:46Speaker 3: Wizard of Oz is until you pay one hundred something
- 0:49Speaker 3: dollars to go watch you like that? That really really
- 0:52Speaker 3: puts you in touch.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Like an hour long?
- 0:54Speaker 2: Is that it?
- 0:55Speaker 5: It's like an hour of ten maybe yep.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Yeah, Like like anything about The Wizard of there's really
- 1:01Speaker 3: not that much plot development.
- 1:03Speaker 5: It really is an album. It's really just going from
- 1:06Speaker 5: song to saw.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Right, But you wanted to feel like you got your
- 1:09Speaker 1: money's worth, and so an hour and ten was not
- 1:11Speaker 1: long enough for you wanted them to stretch that thing
- 1:13Speaker 1: out to like two and a half three hours.
- 1:15Speaker 2: No, I don't think I was.
- 1:16Speaker 5: I think I was about ready to go, Like I
- 1:19Speaker 5: wasn't trying.
- 1:19Speaker 3: To like stretch it out minute for minute in that way.
- 1:23Speaker 3: But you gotta be careful about not getting a seat
- 1:25Speaker 3: that's too close, because if your seat is like too close,
- 1:28Speaker 3: you can be on a upper level, but if you're
- 1:30Speaker 3: too too many rolls down you can like see the
- 1:34Speaker 3: source of the effects, like you see the source of
- 1:36Speaker 3: the pyrotechnics.
- 1:37Speaker 5: You see the source of.
- 1:39Speaker 3: The wind, and when you see the machines do it,
- 1:41Speaker 3: it kind of takes away from the like totality of
- 1:44Speaker 3: the situation.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Right. Uh.
- 1:45Speaker 1: The first time I went there, I was sitting in
- 1:47Speaker 1: the two hundred level. They said those are the best
- 1:49Speaker 1: seats of the house, and I found myself very scared.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'm afraid of heights. Perhaps I was taking something and
- 1:55Speaker 1: I closed my eyes. I was terrified, and so I
- 1:57Speaker 1: called the person who got me the tickets. I said, listen,
- 2:00Speaker 1: I need to put my feet on the ground, and
- 2:02Speaker 1: she's like, your feet are on the ground, and I'm like, no,
- 2:05Speaker 1: round level, that a round crown. And so I sat
- 2:09Speaker 1: on the floor and it was much better. I just
- 2:11Speaker 1: turned it into a concert experience because I don't care
- 2:13Speaker 1: about the visuals, you know.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I'll give this to Dolan.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Dolan done figured out or whoever did this with Dolan,
- 2:19Speaker 3: however you want to put it. But the Sphere has
- 2:22Speaker 3: become a thing that people just want to give a go.
- 2:25Speaker 5: You just want to give it a try. I'm trying
- 2:27Speaker 5: to think.
- 2:28Speaker 3: And it's in Vegas, so you know, despite Vegas being down,
- 2:31Speaker 3: people will still a bunch of people go to Vegas.
- 2:33Speaker 3: But whoever's idea was to be like, Okay, we can't
- 2:35Speaker 3: have a concert every night, but we can show the
- 2:37Speaker 3: Wizard of Oz every day, Like, yo, why don't we
- 2:41Speaker 3: do that? I guarantee you they are making money hand
- 2:44Speaker 3: over fist. They're over showing us an eighty year old movie.
- 2:50Speaker 2: They got you, we can do it better. Yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 4: The only time I ever had, let's just call it
- 2:56Speaker 4: a bad experience on a recreational drug, was a place
- 2:59Speaker 4: with really low ceiling. And so I'm just if I
- 3:03Speaker 4: ever go to the Sphere and try, I feel like
- 3:05Speaker 4: it's just gonna bring back those terrible memories. I'm just
- 3:07Speaker 4: gonna have to go sooner, You're gonna have to go.
- 3:09Speaker 3: So no, you can't go, So no, I mean, just
- 3:12Speaker 3: just don't just stay in the right place on the
- 3:15Speaker 3: hierarchy of things to take, you know, what I mean, Well.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Good point.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I don't know how I transition away from the Sphere
- 3:22Speaker 1: and the Wizard of Oz to Lebron James and Philly,
- 3:26Speaker 1: but I guess that's how I do it, from LSD
- 3:28Speaker 1: to LBJ. Yes, were you surprised that Lebron? Were you
- 3:33Speaker 1: surprised Lebron James? I was not, Bamani. I said it
- 3:36Speaker 1: the second that Lebron James said money wasn't an issue,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and it clearly was it. I told the guys here
- 3:43Speaker 1: he's going to Philadelphia. Were you surprised by his decision?
- 3:46Speaker 5: Yo?
- 3:47Speaker 3: I did not know where he was going to go.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Like of all the times, this is the one where
- 3:53Speaker 3: it felt like nobody really knew.
- 3:55Speaker 5: And the closest thing.
- 3:55Speaker 3: That you had to it was the YouTube thing with
- 3:59Speaker 3: the heat right. But I didn't feel like anybody had
- 4:01Speaker 3: a great idea because I didn't think on one hand,
- 4:04Speaker 3: I didn't think there are any great fits, but also
- 4:05Speaker 3: didn't think there are any bad fits. And I don't
- 4:07Speaker 3: think any of us believed that we're at the portion
- 4:10Speaker 3: of Lebron's career where adding him means that you're going
- 4:12Speaker 3: to win a championship.
- 4:14Speaker 5: So I just kind of leaned in on the hook.
- 4:16Speaker 5: Anything can happen. Let's see how it goes.
- 4:18Speaker 3: And he wound up in a place that makes its
- 4:21Speaker 3: own measure of sense.
- 4:24Speaker 5: That he's there.
- 4:25Speaker 3: It's they got a lot to try to figure out,
- 4:27Speaker 3: Like this is a job for a great coach, and
- 4:29Speaker 3: I think Nick Nurse is merely.
- 4:31Speaker 5: A good one.
- 4:32Speaker 3: But nah, I mean I think this could go about
- 4:38Speaker 3: eighty five.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Different ways, right, Yes, Yes.
- 4:40Speaker 5: That's that's all I got.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Is there's anybody who says they know how this is
- 4:44Speaker 3: gonna go is a lot.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Well, But one of the quickest ways somebody can sort
- 4:48Speaker 4: of get out of favor with a fan base or
- 4:50Speaker 4: with an entire team is if they feel like he
- 4:52Speaker 4: doesn't really belong there. Right, So the idea of him
- 4:55Speaker 4: like helicoptering in and out of Philadelphia, if he's gonna
- 4:57Speaker 4: live in New York the second things go wrong, that's
- 5:01Speaker 4: just an obvious place where they can just turn on
- 5:03Speaker 4: him say you don't even want to be one of us.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yo.
- 5:06Speaker 3: It's so interesting because I made that point on my
- 5:09Speaker 3: show and we put out some short content about it,
- 5:11Speaker 3: and a radio host in Philadelphia accuse me of not
- 5:15Speaker 3: prepping and not doing any research because apparently I didn't.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I was supposed to call him to find out if
- 5:19Speaker 3: anybody was like calling the phones in Philadelphia and complaining
- 5:22Speaker 3: about this, And I even said and the irony of
- 5:25Speaker 3: it was that like he didn't even check my actual podcast,
- 5:28Speaker 3: and he would have maybe heard more contexts, you know,
- 5:31Speaker 3: in the name of research. But my point was, I'm
- 5:34Speaker 3: not saying this is a giant, big deal, but I
- 5:37Speaker 3: would understand if somebody was a little miffed by the
- 5:41Speaker 3: idea that you ain't even been here and you're just like, yo,
- 5:43Speaker 3: I ain't even trying to do this right like that,
- 5:46Speaker 3: that's I could see somebody finding that to be weird.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Now.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I had to also double back on that though, and
- 5:52Speaker 3: say to myself that even if you stayed in Philadelphia
- 5:54Speaker 3: will probably be New Jersey. But even still, the idea
- 5:57Speaker 3: of I'll just come in from New York that does
- 6:00Speaker 3: not sell the impression that you're really invested in what
- 6:03Speaker 3: it is that we're doing down here.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Yeah, but they get they get off to a ten
- 6:07Speaker 1: and oh start and no one's get a caribou.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I mean, oh no, I think they'll care if they
- 6:12Speaker 3: get off to like, well, I don't know, it'll be
- 6:14Speaker 3: going on during Eagle season.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Like I think though that if they are.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Near the top of the East, I think it will
- 6:19Speaker 3: be a thing, because if they are doing it, it
- 6:22Speaker 3: will be they're doing it with a handful of really,
- 6:25Speaker 3: really good players and presumably should be somewhat entertaining to watch.
- 6:29Speaker 3: There's also a great potential for this team that finished
- 6:32Speaker 3: as a seventh seed last year right to and you
- 6:36Speaker 3: know Lebron coming from a team that finished what as
- 6:38Speaker 3: a five seed last year in the West.
- 6:40Speaker 5: It's possible that.
- 6:41Speaker 3: They could be a four to six or seven seed
- 6:45Speaker 3: again this year. And Bead's probably gonna have some measure
- 6:47Speaker 3: of injury. You can't bettle Lebron playing with so many games.
- 6:50Speaker 3: They got to figure out how to work Jalen Brown
- 6:52Speaker 3: into this poor VJ Edge comy. You know, you're supposed
- 6:55Speaker 3: to be getting more shots and now they taken shots
- 6:57Speaker 3: from you. Like there's there's a lot that can go wrong,
- 7:00Speaker 3: there's also a lot that can go right.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yes, but I commend him for that.
- 7:03Speaker 1: He's a mercenary and he went to the one place
- 7:05Speaker 1: where people can take shots of him if it doesn't
- 7:07Speaker 1: go well.
- 7:07Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, but I will say that that part
- 7:10Speaker 3: I give him credit for though, I think that as
- 7:12Speaker 3: long as he like plays hard, he'll be fine there, right,
- 7:16Speaker 3: I think if he demonstrates some effort, he'll be okay.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I'm glad that he was wise enough to like not
- 7:21Speaker 3: keep going back to places that hate him, right, So, Like,
- 7:25Speaker 3: I mean, when he went back to Cleveland, he went
- 7:26Speaker 3: somewhere that people hated him. They came around on it,
- 7:29Speaker 3: like it is funny to see how quick people come
- 7:31Speaker 3: around on the idea, but they still hated him.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Then he went to the Lakers.
- 7:34Speaker 3: They spent a long time hating you, and I don't
- 7:36Speaker 3: think they ever actually got over hating him. If he
- 7:41Speaker 3: had gone to Golden State, Hey, just going back somewhere
- 7:44Speaker 3: where they hate you.
- 7:45Speaker 5: Going to Miami.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I never felt like the fans hated him, but I
- 7:50Speaker 3: do not feel like the team loves.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Him, right, I agree?
- 7:54Speaker 3: You know, like this right here at Les go somewhere
- 7:56Speaker 3: with a bit of a clean start.
- 7:57Speaker 6: Right, Boumonia, Are you surprised by the criticism narrative that
- 8:00Speaker 6: Lebron is ring chasing signing with Philadelphia?
- 8:03Speaker 2: He should be?
- 8:03Speaker 3: I mean, what is he supposed to go find a
- 8:05Speaker 3: team that isn't good? The like of all the teams
- 8:09Speaker 3: that were available to him, which one would he wind
- 8:12Speaker 3: up at where people wouldn't say that he was ring chasing?
- 8:14Speaker 3: Because I think maybe the most interesting option was actually Minnesota.
- 8:18Speaker 5: Would people have accused him.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Of ring chasing if he had gone to play with
- 8:21Speaker 3: Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball, who have a chance to
- 8:23Speaker 3: be in like an excellent, monstrous, giant NBA backcourt, would
- 8:27Speaker 3: that have been ring chasing? So like, I think that
- 8:31Speaker 3: it would be ring chasing if he went to let's say,
- 8:36Speaker 3: somehow Oklahoma City decided to add him for the minimal
- 8:41Speaker 3: that would be ring the Nicks, Yes, yes, yeah, but yeah, right,
- 8:45Speaker 3: like somebody that's all the way there. The Sixers were
- 8:48Speaker 3: seven seed.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yes last year, Come on, what are we doing?
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yes, it's right, Durant went to Golden State that deserved
- 8:55Speaker 1: to be criticized.
- 8:56Speaker 3: This is not that, right, Yeah, like Duran going to
- 8:58Speaker 3: Golden State that was another one. It is like, what
- 9:00Speaker 3: are we saying that that team was too good for
- 9:02Speaker 3: him to go to?
- 9:03Speaker 5: And the answer is.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I mean they won a title the year before.
- 9:07Speaker 5: But at the same time, you be him, no, no, no,
- 9:10Speaker 5: I'm gonna go. So I want to go to a worst.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Team like, like, like you.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Gotta play Oregon trailed on Pharma. Huh, that's the only
- 9:16Speaker 5: way that you can do it, all.
- 9:17Speaker 6: Right, Bomani, what do you make of the Warriors essentially
- 9:20Speaker 6: just throwing their hands up and telling Steph, we tried.
- 9:26Speaker 3: I'm gonna tell you something that I have learned in
- 9:31Speaker 3: my travels and I will say to a degree in
- 9:34Speaker 3: my career, and it's a tough thing. Some people decide
- 9:39Speaker 3: that there is a certain way that they are going
- 9:41Speaker 3: to comport themselves, and there's a certain decency with which
- 9:44Speaker 3: they are going to comport themselves, and acting a fool
- 9:47Speaker 3: about stuff is beneath them and they find that to
- 9:49Speaker 3: be embarrassing and they're never going to do that. But
- 9:52Speaker 3: human beings in these group dynamics respond to the person. Basically,
- 9:59Speaker 3: people try to make the decision that won't make anybody mad.
- 10:04Speaker 5: Steph is never mad.
- 10:06Speaker 3: And therefore there's great potential for the decision to always
- 10:11Speaker 3: go against you. Like I think all of us, at
- 10:14Speaker 3: some point or another have worked for somebody where everything
- 10:17Speaker 3: that you do is around just trying not to make
- 10:20Speaker 3: that person mad, right, just just just trying to keep
- 10:23Speaker 3: everything smooth with that person. And people always do that
- 10:26Speaker 3: because nobody likes the discomfort or be around that person
- 10:29Speaker 3: that's gonna make it all feel weird. And Steph has
- 10:32Speaker 3: demonstrated himself to be the guy that's just gonna keep
- 10:34Speaker 3: on going no matter what, and as a result, they
- 10:37Speaker 3: kind of treating him like that. Now, to be fair
- 10:39Speaker 3: to the Warriors, they didn't go get Jimmy Butler, like,
- 10:42Speaker 3: you know, not very long ago, like a really good
- 10:45Speaker 3: player with a championship sort of pedigree. Like I don't
- 10:48Speaker 3: want to pretend like they haven't made any moves to
- 10:50Speaker 3: try to get anything done, and they are definitely counting
- 10:52Speaker 3: on the idea that Jimmy comes back and plays well,
- 10:55Speaker 3: then everything is gonna be okay, or at least they're
- 10:57Speaker 3: going to be close.
- 10:58Speaker 5: That's what they're going for.
- 10:59Speaker 3: But at say time, if that was Lebron James Auto
- 11:03Speaker 3: Max deal data done something.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Crumbs, Yes, crumbs.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I think the funniest part of this story and the
- 11:12Speaker 1: part I'm most interested in, what do you imagine is
- 11:14Speaker 1: happening in Boston right now because.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Of your Brad Stevens.
- 11:17Speaker 1: What you did is you traded Jalen Brown to Philadelphia
- 11:20Speaker 1: and made that team attractive enough for Lebron James to
- 11:23Speaker 1: choose that team as the fifth starter on that team,
- 11:27Speaker 1: and that can't be going well in Boston for Brad
- 11:29Speaker 1: Stevens right now.
- 11:30Speaker 3: What I think that Brad messed up on was thinking
- 11:34Speaker 3: that if they didn't make the honest deal that there
- 11:38Speaker 3: could still be a deal where you got Jaylen Brown
- 11:43Speaker 3: out of there, like it showed that you could get
- 11:44Speaker 3: a lot for Jalen Brown. Right where I think they
- 11:48Speaker 3: aired on that trade and why they should have thrown
- 11:50Speaker 3: whoever else was in it was necessary. It's an old
- 11:53Speaker 3: NBA adage. Isy, I know you'd have heard this a
- 11:55Speaker 3: million times, but it's true. You win the trade if
- 11:58Speaker 3: you got the best player. And they had found a
- 12:03Speaker 3: trade where Jalen Brown would not be the best player,
- 12:07Speaker 3: meaning that they would be the ones to get the
- 12:08Speaker 3: best player and they would win. Instead, they were left
- 12:11Speaker 3: with a bunch of trades where Jalen Brown was the
- 12:13Speaker 3: best player, and it was done under a set of
- 12:16Speaker 3: circumstances that then allowed for Jalen Brown to decide where
- 12:20Speaker 3: he would and would not go, And that's how you
- 12:22Speaker 3: wind up with that paltry package that they got back
- 12:26Speaker 3: because they let too many variables. Then ultimately get involved.
- 12:30Speaker 3: What you're hoping for, if you're Brad Stevens, is that
- 12:32Speaker 3: it turns into a big, old, messy, dramatic mess with
- 12:36Speaker 3: Jalen Brown down there, because I feel like Boston must
- 12:39Speaker 3: have just clearly realized we can't bring him back here
- 12:43Speaker 3: after what.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Happened last season.
- 12:45Speaker 3: What happened last season was he took thirty eight percent
- 12:47Speaker 3: of the shots and he loved every minute of it,
- 12:49Speaker 3: and that was never going to happen again.
- 12:50Speaker 4: I was just about to go there with you, just
- 12:53Speaker 4: wonder how likely it would be that Jalen Brown be
- 12:57Speaker 4: the one that turns this into something of a team turmoil,
- 13:00Speaker 4: trying to Oh, he's at.
- 13:01Speaker 5: The top of the last.
- 13:03Speaker 2: He didn't there.
- 13:05Speaker 3: It's his thing. It's not gonna be Lebron. Like, say
- 13:08Speaker 3: whatever you want about Lebron turmoil. Teams are not his thing, right,
- 13:13Speaker 3: It's not gonna be him. Embiid is an interesting case
- 13:16Speaker 3: because Embiid, I think I don't think MBI can play
- 13:19Speaker 3: NBA basketball and not being the center.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Of everything on offense, and so I don't like, I don't.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Know how that works with all these other guys that
- 13:26Speaker 3: they are bringing in here. Tyrese MAXI like, why would
- 13:31Speaker 3: I want to give up shots like this doesn't make
- 13:33Speaker 3: any Like, it doesn't make any sense if I'm if
- 13:35Speaker 3: I'm those guys like this is Jalen Brown is the
- 13:38Speaker 3: one that's gotta be like, hey, man, you thought you
- 13:41Speaker 3: would earn your chance to be the guy and now
- 13:44Speaker 3: you're on a guyless team because the team has so
- 13:46Speaker 3: many guys, right, but you no, he's if it's gonna
- 13:50Speaker 3: get weird. I generally think the weirdest guy is the
- 13:53Speaker 3: one that's going to be the reason.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Well, Lebron's been on a team that made huge changes
- 13:57Speaker 4: in the middle of the season in Cleveland, remember with
- 13:58Speaker 4: Isaiah Thomas and everything else. I wouldn't be shocked if
- 14:01Speaker 4: they're sort of mutually Jalen Brown's like, Hey, this isn't
- 14:04Speaker 4: really working out for me. Why don't you go ahead
- 14:06Speaker 4: and try to trade me because you're gonna get good
- 14:07Speaker 4: value for me still, And that conversation could happen as
- 14:10Speaker 4: early as like December.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Yeah, but can't exactly what's the value that you can
- 14:15Speaker 3: get for Jalen Brown. Some depth Jalen Brown and Jason
- 14:20Speaker 3: Tatum is so interesting to me because as much as
- 14:24Speaker 3: I think we think of the Celtics as.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Like an analytics type of operation.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Let me tell you two guys the analytics kind of
- 14:30Speaker 3: like but don't love Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown Like
- 14:34Speaker 3: neither of them are advanced statistics monsters. In fact, Tatum's
- 14:38Speaker 3: thing is weird because the advanced numbers speak more highly
- 14:41Speaker 3: of his defense than most people do, but not nearly
- 14:43Speaker 3: as highly of his offense.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Like both of those guys, I.
- 14:48Speaker 3: You put Tatum on the market, Like, ask yourself, if
- 14:50Speaker 3: you got a team, what would you really want to
- 14:51Speaker 3: give up for a team where Jason Tatum is your
- 14:53Speaker 3: best player?
- 14:54Speaker 2: Like? How much?
- 14:55Speaker 3: Like all around the league? How many of you guys
- 14:57Speaker 3: are giving up your best player? Like, if you're Detroit,
- 14:59Speaker 3: they asked, offer you k cutting half for Jason Tatum?
- 15:01Speaker 5: Do you make that trade? Because I sure don't know.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 15:03Speaker 5: That's before the and that's before the Achilles.
- 15:18Speaker 2: How'd you feel about the Knicks saying we don't want.
- 15:20Speaker 5: Lebron Jim Dolan has waited how long?
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yes?
- 15:26Speaker 5: To have it in line in the place, to be
- 15:29Speaker 5: able to be like.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Naho over here.
- 15:33Speaker 5: Yes, we were straight.
- 15:34Speaker 3: We're the defending champions. Y what do we what do
- 15:38Speaker 3: we need Lebron's old ass.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I gotta tell you that it feels great Bron.
- 15:49Speaker 5: Like like the Knicks.
- 15:50Speaker 3: I'm counting on Knicks fans to keep a little bit
- 15:53Speaker 3: of humble to them, but i'd understand if they couldn't,
- 15:55Speaker 3: especially after that.
- 15:56Speaker 2: We can't.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Uh that is back to we now, like you're all
- 16:02Speaker 3: the way the prodigal God says returned.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Listen, we won a title.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I mean, so opening night, who is the last Philadelphia
- 16:12Speaker 1: seventy six or starter to be announced by the PA
- 16:15Speaker 1: announcer Joel emb It's.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Gotta be Lebron though, right.
- 16:20Speaker 3: No, joelmb really no question is Joel Let us never
- 16:24Speaker 3: forget that Joel Embiid made his own nickname the process.
- 16:28Speaker 3: He took that whole nonsensical process idea and may trust
- 16:32Speaker 3: the process. Trust Joel Embiid like he's still there. He's
- 16:36Speaker 3: still a former MVP. They're going to retire his jersey
- 16:39Speaker 3: one day. He is a Hall of Famer. He's going
- 16:42Speaker 3: last until the day he leaves tout and you know
- 16:46Speaker 3: why because he's the one that'll whine about of course.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean this is how it goes, right, last
- 16:52Speaker 4: is the most important player?
- 16:53Speaker 2: First?
- 16:54Speaker 4: Now, becomes the second most important player, right, like you
- 16:56Speaker 4: can Lebron. You can announce Lebron first, let the crowd
- 16:59Speaker 4: go crazy, Two, three, and four don't matter so much,
- 17:02Speaker 4: and then you get five.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Yeah, but Jen Brown went there to be announced last.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I mean he did.
- 17:08Speaker 5: I think first will be Lebron.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I think Jleen Brown will be second, Edge Comb will
- 17:15Speaker 3: be third, MAXI will be fourth, and bid will be fifth.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Forwards guards process.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yes, but edge Comb has said very quickly. Right, It's
- 17:24Speaker 1: like it's in and out right.
- 17:26Speaker 3: If I am Edgecomb's agent, you guys gotta get me
- 17:29Speaker 3: out of here.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Man.
- 17:33Speaker 3: How how am I supposed to get my money? How
- 17:35Speaker 3: am I supposed to get better? How am I supposed
- 17:37Speaker 3: to fell?
- 17:39Speaker 2: There's like, imagine this.
- 17:40Speaker 3: You're the number four pick, and you were very good
- 17:43Speaker 3: as a rookie, and the plan for your next year
- 17:47Speaker 3: is to give you fewer shots. Now, to be fair,
- 17:49Speaker 3: it would not surprise me. And in fact, I go
- 17:51Speaker 3: so far as to say that I expected that of
- 17:53Speaker 3: that starting five, the player who will have the fewest
- 17:55Speaker 3: fga's is going to be Lebron James.
- 18:00Speaker 4: This, yeah, I can see that. I mean I can
- 18:01Speaker 4: see him having a high assist season. Look at all
- 18:03Speaker 4: these toys I have around me. You guys go get yours,
- 18:06Speaker 4: and he can start. If it's a big play down
- 18:08Speaker 4: the stretch, he can initiate the offense.
- 18:10Speaker 2: He does.
- 18:10Speaker 4: He's always been somebody who's more than willing to give
- 18:12Speaker 4: up the shots.
- 18:13Speaker 3: So absolutely, you get to move Maxie off the ball
- 18:16Speaker 3: a little bit more, right, I mean there's a lot
- 18:19Speaker 3: that can happen until lebron Or and b get hurt.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Last question, Bom will get you out of here.
- 18:23Speaker 1: It's a question We've been asking every single guest Indiana
- 18:27Speaker 1: University of Indiana football or basketball school.
- 18:32Speaker 5: It's so funny.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Currently, all I'm saying is this, the it took a
- 18:39Speaker 3: national championship in football to get in to get as
- 18:43Speaker 3: much attention in at that school as would if they
- 18:47Speaker 3: made it to the sweet sixteen. That's like, and I'm
- 18:51Speaker 3: saying this to somebody who spent a lot of time
- 18:53Speaker 3: in Chapel Hill. Right, Yes, there is nothing that football
- 18:57Speaker 3: team could do and that stopped being a basketball school.
- 19:01Speaker 3: The problem is Indiana is a basketball school that isn't
- 19:04Speaker 3: good at basketball, but it doesn't mean that it's not
- 19:07Speaker 3: a basketball school. Take NC State is an interesting example,
- 19:10Speaker 3: NC State has a history of football success, but in
- 19:13Speaker 3: C State, I mean a basketball success.
- 19:15Speaker 2: But it's a football school, right, yeah, I said that.
- 19:18Speaker 6: Ste Gott said, no, they're a basketball school.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Well because the championship playing basketball.
- 19:22Speaker 5: I mean yeah, yeah, yeah, but you gotta go there.
- 19:24Speaker 5: You just gotta be there, like like you get there.
- 19:26Speaker 5: That's a that's a that's a school. That's an SEC
- 19:29Speaker 5: school that just ain't good enough to be in the SEC.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Like that is that is absolutely a football school, but
- 19:36Speaker 3: they do have two national championships in basketball.
- 19:38Speaker 6: Right.
- 19:38Speaker 1: What's interesting is most basketball schools want to be a
- 19:41Speaker 1: football school. That's what they want to be known for.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Except for Carolina, I'm with you on that. They're perfectly
- 19:46Speaker 1: fine being a basketball school.
- 19:47Speaker 3: They recognize that they need to get enough money out
- 19:51Speaker 3: of football. Like, what's gonna do Bill Belichick in is
- 19:55Speaker 3: all that money they're giving him could have gone to basketball.
- 20:00Speaker 5: That's what's gonna do him?
- 20:01Speaker 3: Me in every like what they like, it reached a
- 20:03Speaker 3: certain point where they gave him all this money and
- 20:05Speaker 3: they're like, hey, man, now you're talking about cutting into
- 20:08Speaker 3: the basketball, buddy.
- 20:09Speaker 5: Basketball is what makes people feel good around here.
- 20:12Speaker 4: Yeah, they call Indiana what the cradle of basketball as
- 20:15Speaker 4: if they had anything to.
- 20:18Speaker 3: No, But nobody loves as a state as people. Nobody
- 20:22Speaker 3: loves basketball more than Indiana, right, And there's a very
- 20:25Speaker 3: simple reason as to why it ain't just it just
- 20:27Speaker 3: ain't got that many black people in it. So they
- 20:30Speaker 3: get to enjoy basketball without you know a lot of
- 20:33Speaker 3: their hang ups and their problems. You know, like you
- 20:35Speaker 3: think about this, people don't think about Indiana in this way.
- 20:38Speaker 3: You know, you think about the end of the high
- 20:40Speaker 3: School Stayed Basketball Tournament. Glenn Robinson's team won that he
- 20:43Speaker 3: from Gary, Indiana. Right, that's still in Indiana, but it
- 20:46Speaker 3: ain't what nobody thinks about. Like Indiana basketball is thought
- 20:51Speaker 3: of as white people playing basketball, and in that case,
- 20:55Speaker 3: they can love it in a different way than people can.
- 20:57Speaker 3: And a lot of these other places Indian high school
- 21:00Speaker 3: basketball nobody cares more about. Like that's Texas high school football,
- 21:03Speaker 3: Like nobody cares more about it than they do. They
- 21:07Speaker 3: just let that program at Trophy for the last thirty years,
- 21:11Speaker 3: starting with letting Bobby Nice stay too long.
- 21:15Speaker 6: Boll MANI we mentioned Carolina football and Bill Belichick and
- 21:17Speaker 6: Michael Lombardi's certainly not doing them any favors right now.
- 21:21Speaker 6: It's never a good sign when you start to get
- 21:23Speaker 6: in trouble and everybody can't wait to dunk on you
- 21:26Speaker 6: on the internet, which is what's happening to Michael Lombardi.
- 21:29Speaker 6: What do you kind of make of that situation?
- 21:31Speaker 3: It sounds like one of those situations that happens when
- 21:34Speaker 3: your people already want to fire you because they're they're
- 21:37Speaker 3: they're under investigation from whatever this new organization is that,
- 21:41Speaker 3: by the way, just suspended somebody for not paying back
- 21:44Speaker 3: a four hundred dollars plane ticket to an agent likes
- 21:48Speaker 3: it's like the old days again, right right, So all
- 21:52Speaker 3: we know is that Lombardi is under some sort of investigation.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I don't know how many people remember when Jeremy Pruett
- 21:57Speaker 3: was the coach at Tennessee and n CAA put him
- 21:59Speaker 3: on investigation, and as I recall, Tennessee told on Jeremy
- 22:03Speaker 3: Pruett because they wanted to be able to fire him
- 22:05Speaker 3: for cause. I have no reason to believe that Mike
- 22:09Speaker 3: Lombardi committed a like I haven't seen to report it,
- 22:12Speaker 3: like if they said exactly what his accused transgression was.
- 22:16Speaker 3: But it sounds like the sort of thing that gets
- 22:18Speaker 3: you fired when your bosses already want to fire you
- 22:21Speaker 3: and they really really really want that guy.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Yeah, someone told someone find something.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Yeah, whatever it takes, whatever it takes, get this dude
- 22:30Speaker 3: out of here.
- 22:30Speaker 5: And He's just what I'm amazed by with.
- 22:33Speaker 3: Bill Belichick is nobody thinks this guy's good at anything except.
- 22:39Speaker 5: You, Like, nobody even thinks he's good.
- 22:46Speaker 3: When he was doing this stuff, then we're doing nobody
- 22:48Speaker 3: thinks he's good at that.
- 22:49Speaker 6: Right, Yes, I mean we were bidding against ourselves.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Taylor was so excited when he got him.
- 22:56Speaker 5: He was, oh, no, man, my guy. Daddy Park has
- 22:59Speaker 5: made a great point. It made a great point about
- 23:01Speaker 5: Lombardi and some point.
- 23:02Speaker 3: But he was just like, look, the last time you
- 23:04Speaker 3: heard from Mike Lombardi, he was on the radio losing
- 23:07Speaker 3: arguments to me.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Belichick's GM at North Carolina.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Hey man, Belichick, good luck to you, buddy, Like like
- 23:17Speaker 3: they better by the way, it's on the board that somehow,
- 23:20Speaker 3: some way they could be really good this year. But
- 23:25Speaker 3: if they got caught cheating recruiting bombs, because that's the
- 23:29Speaker 3: thing they like.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Bombs, put it on the polls. Is North Carolina? Does
- 23:34Speaker 2: Belichick like bums.
- 23:39Speaker 6: There was a story about like a small group of
- 23:42Speaker 6: five coach that was like looking around recruiting and being like,
- 23:45Speaker 6: why is North Carolina here?
- 23:48Speaker 5: Why are we recruiting the same player?
- 23:51Speaker 3: And by the way, that didn't make that coach feel
- 23:54Speaker 3: like I think we got a diamond in the rough here.
- 23:56Speaker 5: No, he's like, no, what are we doing?
- 24:00Speaker 2: Valors, why are you here?
- 24:02Speaker 3: Like every now and then in my life or like
- 24:04Speaker 3: with somebody like in New York like sees me on
- 24:05Speaker 3: the bush, like wait a minute, what are you?
- 24:07Speaker 5: What are you doing on the bus?
- 24:08Speaker 3: That is that is what they're thinking about Bill Belichick
- 24:11Speaker 3: and Duble of the players he's recruiting
- 24:13Speaker 1: So good at the right time with Bomani Jones wherever
- 24:16Speaker 1: you get your podcast, we appreciate the time as always,
- 24:19Speaker 1: my man, thank you for doing it all right, brother,
- 24:21Speaker 1: appreciate you all right, man,
