- 0:19Speaker 1: This is the moment then, that we've all been waiting
- 0:21Speaker 1: for for in a romax.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Here comes Oscar Piastree, Lando Norris.
- 0:26Speaker 2: They aren't playing hardball out there at the moment.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Steve piverchool moment to twenty twenty four.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Hello and welcome to pit Talk, brought to you by Shannons.
- 0:39Speaker 4: On today's episode, Formula One resumes with its Austrian Grand
- 0:42Speaker 4: Prix and with Ferrari under serious pressure following reports from
- 0:45Speaker 4: the Italian media the team boss Fred Vasser could be
- 0:48Speaker 4: under threat in his position. Rock Feenie becomes the first
- 0:52Speaker 4: driver to win three races at the Darwin Triple Crown
- 0:55Speaker 4: in the dominant weekend for the title leader. And we'll
- 0:58Speaker 4: take the temperature of the motop season with TV World
- 1:01Speaker 4: Feed commentator Matt Burt after another Mark Marquees victory in Itaaly.
- 1:06Speaker 4: My name is Michael Lomonado. It's great to have your
- 1:08Speaker 4: company and the company of my co host Speed Italian Excellence,
- 1:14Speaker 4: Genius Renaissance. On one side, he's Leonardo. On the other
- 1:17Speaker 4: side is Mackia Valley. It's Matt Clayson.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I think I'd like to be both a neither at
- 1:21Speaker 2: the same time. There's nothing like the Italian round of
- 1:24Speaker 2: Moto GP for random one off liveries that are mostly
- 1:27Speaker 2: bad and randompments that are often good but completely overtaken
- 1:31Speaker 2: by random one off liveries. But it's a great tradition,
- 1:33Speaker 2: as are the press releases that come out.
- 1:35Speaker 4: With the press releases are my favorite part. That was
- 1:37Speaker 4: a description of the Ducati special Livery.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I think that was the press release.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Yeah, that should have been all it is company with
- 1:42Speaker 4: a photo of Mark Marquez and Pecovano playing plain chess.
- 1:45Speaker 4: I assume they got through the full game. It wasn't
- 1:48Speaker 4: just set up for the photos. But I wait to
- 1:50Speaker 4: see the video and the results of that match, obviously,
- 1:52Speaker 4: which would be very exciting. This was a Moto GP
- 1:55Speaker 4: in supercars around no Formula one on at the weekend
- 1:57Speaker 4: just passed. As I said in Austria, will be this weekend.
- 1:59Speaker 4: We'll get that a little bit later on, but that
- 2:01Speaker 4: means we start with expert versus interested.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Okay, so I guess I should go first and we
- 2:06Speaker 2: get supercars in Darwin because I am interested. What I'm
- 2:09Speaker 2: mostly interested in is that your crystal ball. I don't
- 2:13Speaker 2: know wh I don't know when it gets serviced or
- 2:15Speaker 2: where you got this done. Your crystal ball said last
- 2:17Speaker 2: week that it was going to be brock Feeni in
- 2:19Speaker 2: Darwin all the way, and it was.
- 2:21Speaker 4: It was really all the way, all pole positions, all
- 2:24Speaker 4: race victories, and he won the triple crown. No evidence
- 2:27Speaker 4: of an actual crown. I was like secondary component of
- 2:30Speaker 4: my prediction, tragically, but there's still time for that to
- 2:32Speaker 4: be made, to be wrought in whatever material. But he
- 2:35Speaker 4: did dominate this weekend. He's always been very good at Darwin,
- 2:38Speaker 4: and so it proved and he wanted and this has
- 2:40Speaker 4: been a bit of a trend. We'll talk about the
- 2:41Speaker 4: final system a little bit later, but all year, the
- 2:44Speaker 4: old way and the new way. I feel like that
- 2:45Speaker 4: could almost be if there was a season review DVD
- 2:47Speaker 4: in supercars. That's what they'll have to call it a
- 2:50Speaker 4: way because this is the year they changed the rules
- 2:53Speaker 4: for the triple Crown. It was just purely based on points,
- 2:55Speaker 4: like any of the various trophies awarded throughout the year
- 2:57Speaker 4: at various rounds, because it used to be so hard
- 3:00Speaker 4: that to win this this thing, because it used to
- 3:03Speaker 4: really require the it was a three race round, all
- 3:06Speaker 4: three races or two races in a poll or whatever.
- 3:08Speaker 4: But he did at the old fashion WAB. He won
- 3:10Speaker 4: everything that was on offer this weekend, so he said
- 3:12Speaker 4: they should change the rules background now on. Maybe you
- 3:14Speaker 4: did the last one for a little while, but I
- 3:16Speaker 4: really like that. At some in every sport, particularly motorsport,
- 3:21Speaker 4: you get drivers or riders that just have an affinity
- 3:24Speaker 4: for a circuit for sometimes reasons they can't even describe.
- 3:27Speaker 4: There were so many opportunities. I think it was most
- 3:29Speaker 4: of Garth tan draft qualifying to ask him, well, why
- 3:31Speaker 4: do you go so well here? And he normally he went, well,
- 3:33Speaker 4: I don't know, I just really like the circuit whatever.
- 3:35Speaker 4: But he's so he's been good here every year, is
- 3:37Speaker 4: coming here and he's only in his fourth season in supercars.
- 3:40Speaker 4: But it's just really impressive to see when there's just
- 3:43Speaker 4: there's that zone isn't there.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Well, And you talk about this with drivers and other series,
- 3:47Speaker 2: not quite knowing why, but knowing that it works. That's
- 3:50Speaker 2: Lewis Hamilton in Hungary in Formula one. Yes, even when
- 3:53Speaker 2: Mercedes weren't very good when he first went there. That
- 3:55Speaker 2: was the racy one before they started winning everything. And
- 3:58Speaker 2: then there's other more explainable Dominate is Mark Marquez at
- 4:01Speaker 2: Saxon Ring in Motor GP, a track of predominantly left
- 4:04Speaker 2: handed corners. It's very, very slippery. That sounds like if
- 4:06Speaker 2: Marquees was to draw his favorite track on a piece
- 4:08Speaker 2: of paper, he'd probably look a little bit like that.
- 4:10Speaker 2: But Feenie and Darwin, that's always been a thing and
- 4:13Speaker 2: so I prooved.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Yeah, and this is important for the championship points picture anyway,
- 4:18Speaker 4: Let's say that much because he's taking a step ahead.
- 4:19Speaker 4: He's now one hundred and eighty three points in the
- 4:21Speaker 4: lead of his teammate Will Brown, who was the reverse
- 4:23Speaker 4: side of the coin. This very much was on a
- 4:25Speaker 4: triple eighth thing. This is a Phoenie thing. Because he
- 4:27Speaker 4: had a fairly ordinary weekend. Qualifying continues to be a
- 4:30Speaker 4: bit of a problem for him. The team's now committed
- 4:32Speaker 4: to breaking down that car looking for any chassis problems
- 4:35Speaker 4: that might be contributing to that lack of raw pace.
- 4:39Speaker 4: He was better in the races though, so there's an
- 4:41Speaker 4: interesting thing to delve into the for the reigning champion.
- 4:44Speaker 4: He's currently being shown up by his teammate. But I
- 4:46Speaker 4: guess if you were looking a little bit on the
- 4:47Speaker 4: positive side for him, kind of the opposite thing happened
- 4:50Speaker 4: last year where he suddenly took these steps forward Phoenie
- 4:53Speaker 4: fell out. I think it was even a third in
- 4:54Speaker 4: the championship last year behind Chaz Mostd so not over
- 4:57Speaker 4: in that sense, but he is only fourteen points now
- 5:00Speaker 4: ahead of even that pain in those standings. So an
- 5:02Speaker 4: interesting thing to happen there. But I mean, we talk
- 5:04Speaker 4: about the championship mat it's not really that relevant the
- 5:07Speaker 4: top of the autumn.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Well, can I have another interested can past the line
- 5:11Speaker 2: back in? Because I'm told that I need to not
- 5:13Speaker 2: be looking right at the very top of the championship stands,
- 5:15Speaker 2: I need to look further down. So explain why I
- 5:18Speaker 2: should be interested in this?
- 5:19Speaker 4: Yeah, because we're now only two rounds away from the
- 5:21Speaker 4: end of the Sprint Cup, which is the first component
- 5:23Speaker 4: of our three component championship. Now after that will have
- 5:26Speaker 4: the two endurance races that the banded in Baptist and
- 5:28Speaker 4: then we're going to have the finals and the only
- 5:30Speaker 4: drives is that matter in the finals? Sad though it
- 5:32Speaker 4: might be. Is the top ten to be fair, that's
- 5:34Speaker 4: usually more than by the time we get to the
- 5:36Speaker 4: last three rounds. But it means that now I think,
- 5:39Speaker 4: really to the end of the in juros and the
- 5:41Speaker 4: durance of their own kind of thing, because they're only
- 5:43Speaker 4: two one shot races. But we really need to be
- 5:45Speaker 4: looking at tenth because Feenie and Brown, regardless of their form,
- 5:48Speaker 4: there isn't so they're going to be there pretty much
- 5:52Speaker 4: up to I think sixth I'm willing to say they're
- 5:54Speaker 4: going to be there, But it's Anton Dibisquale at the
- 5:57Speaker 4: moment who's tenth, seven hundred and seventy two points drivers
- 6:00Speaker 4: ahead of him. I'm reading the points numbers, not my
- 6:02Speaker 4: strength and big numbers and supercars Thomas Randall, Andre him
- 6:05Speaker 4: Gardner and Cam Hill they're within seventy points ahead of him.
- 6:08Speaker 4: So just on or in the bubble, yes, and understood
- 6:10Speaker 4: how the bubble works, I think, But then in the bubble.
- 6:12Speaker 4: But then Ryan Wood just out of the bubble. You
- 6:14Speaker 4: want to be in the bubble. He's out of the bubble.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Maybe a bit unfortunate for him because obviously had his
- 6:18Speaker 4: first pollen victory in Perth couple of weeks ago, but
- 6:20Speaker 4: then didn't get enough points from that round. Problems out
- 6:23Speaker 4: of his control again. This weekend end in failure was
- 6:26Speaker 4: the big one, completely taking him out of the points
- 6:28Speaker 4: than strategy on Sunday with a fuel problem. He's just
- 6:31Speaker 4: out of the bubble, but by twenty two points. Kyle
- 6:33Speaker 4: Allen two time mate and podium get it this weekend
- 6:36Speaker 4: where we can say that forty three points out, Nick
- 6:38Speaker 4: Perkin and James Golding are also thirteen to fourteenth within
- 6:41Speaker 4: one hundred points. So there's potential for quite a lot
- 6:45Speaker 4: of movement in what is now for the next couple
- 6:48Speaker 4: of months. Really, other than who wins bath the stuff,
- 6:50Speaker 4: that's the other big question. The big question is who's
- 6:52Speaker 4: going to make it.
- 6:53Speaker 2: It feels like you've got about eight to ten guys
- 6:55Speaker 2: for maybe four to five spots. Yeah, which had a
- 6:57Speaker 2: nice conundrum.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Yeah and sorry, this is the final system where you know,
- 7:00Speaker 4: some people will have been skeptical of it. I think
- 7:02Speaker 4: actually for supercars it's exactly what this sport needed because
- 7:04Speaker 4: now we're going to have ten drivers and we've seen
- 7:07Speaker 4: other than brock Feeding the last couple of months. It
- 7:09Speaker 4: being very open at the front in Supercars, which is
- 7:12Speaker 4: what you want because then in the finals it's essentially
- 7:14Speaker 4: sudden death. Yep, anyone could win it in that top ten.
- 7:17Speaker 4: So we went and see you. But now I was
- 7:19Speaker 4: very interested in Matt. It's very interested last night in
- 7:21Speaker 4: Moto GPE on Monday, not just because both of my
- 7:25Speaker 4: children were awake to one ams. I had ample time
- 7:27Speaker 4: to watch all of the Moto GPS. But you said, though, look,
- 7:30Speaker 4: let's not compare crystal balls, but I'm going to talk
- 7:32Speaker 4: about yours. This was going to be a Banyai's big break,
- 7:34Speaker 4: right Normally he's very good in Magello, very good in
- 7:36Speaker 4: Assen for the last three years at least, and it
- 7:39Speaker 4: didn't really happen.
- 7:40Speaker 2: This is why I mentioned whoever serviced your crystal ball,
- 7:43Speaker 2: I'm going to give them a call because my crystal
- 7:44Speaker 2: ball is absolutely naked. After this weekend, I was figuring
- 7:48Speaker 2: that this was going to be where pecaban I was
- 7:50Speaker 2: going to plant his flag because Magello and ass in
- 7:52Speaker 2: the past three years, this is where he has dominated,
- 7:54Speaker 2: and we knew he needed a weekend and coming off
- 7:57Speaker 2: Aragon the Grand Prix, he was very, very competitive, much
- 8:01Speaker 2: more competitive than he had been. I thought, all right,
- 8:03Speaker 2: you've got a ten day period here that if he's
- 8:05Speaker 2: going to actually make a run at making Marquez sweat
- 8:07Speaker 2: for this championship, it has to be now. And instead
- 8:10Speaker 2: you actually got the opposite Mark Marquez winning at Magello
- 8:13Speaker 2: for the first time in eleven years. And this is
- 8:15Speaker 2: one of those tracks because it's a lot of right
- 8:17Speaker 2: handers and he's never been particularly great here, and he
- 8:20Speaker 2: struggled on those types of circuits post surgeries plural, well
- 8:23Speaker 2: four of them. He's not great at these right handed
- 8:26Speaker 2: tracks a lot of the time now, So to win
- 8:29Speaker 2: in Italy, Ducati's first time as a factory tocaddy rider
- 8:32Speaker 2: at Migello, and to do it so convincingly, won the sprint,
- 8:36Speaker 2: won the Grand Prix on a weekend where Baannaya made
- 8:39Speaker 2: the podium in the sprint and then fell out of
- 8:41Speaker 2: podium contention in the Grand Prix. The gap between those
- 8:43Speaker 2: two riders now is one hundred and ten points after
- 8:47Speaker 2: nine rounds. It doesn't even seem real when you consider
- 8:50Speaker 2: this whole season was going to be it's Marquees versus
- 8:52Speaker 2: Bannaia and all the Rossie links to those two and
- 8:55Speaker 2: it was going to be fantastic the whole way through.
- 8:58Speaker 2: And I feel Mark's actually left some points on the
- 8:59Speaker 2: tape this year. It's the underperformance of Manyaya and the
- 9:03Speaker 2: fact that that lasted through this track. Yes, we have
- 9:05Speaker 2: as him coming up this weekend where he's basically been
- 9:07Speaker 2: unbeatable for three years. I'm not as confident now.
- 9:10Speaker 3: My crystal ball.
- 9:11Speaker 2: May need a bit of a rub and a bit
- 9:12Speaker 2: of a polish. I'm not as confident now as I
- 9:15Speaker 2: was because there just doesn't seem to be any end
- 9:17Speaker 2: to these front end problems he's having with the Ducati
- 9:19Speaker 2: Marquez winning in Dania territory, that's a big narrative for
- 9:22Speaker 2: the championship.
- 9:23Speaker 4: We're going to talk to about Burton just a second interview.
- 9:25Speaker 4: We did a little bit earlier today. But the question
- 9:27Speaker 4: that sort of struck me watching this and used the
- 9:29Speaker 4: phrase plant to flag, which I think was quite yes,
- 9:32Speaker 4: considering that's literally what happened at the end of this
- 9:34Speaker 4: Grand Prix, Marquez picking his grandstand in front of which
- 9:38Speaker 4: to part to plant the flag. And I thought at
- 9:41Speaker 4: the time that that looked relatively poignant because this is Marques.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Like you said, the Rossi factor here, he was the
- 9:47Speaker 4: arch enemy, even though he hasn't been in such a
- 9:49Speaker 4: competitive position up until joining Dacadia last year and then
- 9:52Speaker 4: this year was the factory team. What is the status
- 9:55Speaker 4: of his relationship not with Dacadi the team, obviously they're
- 9:58Speaker 4: very much behind him, but the Jacatti identity that the
- 10:01Speaker 4: fans who were there that packed out those grand stands are.
- 10:04Speaker 4: They're mostly cheering for Vanyaya, but he's now the one,
- 10:07Speaker 4: let's be honest, who's going to deliver them their next title.
- 10:09Speaker 4: What does that mean in this story?
- 10:12Speaker 2: This is where it's hard for the Italian fans now
- 10:14Speaker 2: because obviously Dakati is the national team, and then you've
- 10:18Speaker 2: got the Rossi factor. You know, it's ten years ago
- 10:20Speaker 2: now sepaying twenty fifteen. We're going back a long way,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and you know, there's not a lot of forgiving and
- 10:24Speaker 2: forgetting going on with certain parts of the fan base.
- 10:27Speaker 2: And I thought what was really interesting on the weekend
- 10:29Speaker 2: was he won the sprint on the Saturday. They had
- 10:31Speaker 2: the podium ceremony on the start finished straight and a
- 10:34Speaker 2: lot of the Italian fans pro Rossi fans were booing
- 10:37Speaker 2: and hissing Marquez as he was about to go onto
- 10:38Speaker 2: the podium, and Dacatti's team manager Dabide Tardozzi, who's pretty
- 10:42Speaker 2: fiery at the best of times, went across to the
- 10:44Speaker 2: fans and admonished them for booing a Ducati rider who'd
- 10:47Speaker 2: won for an Italian team on Italian turf, and very
- 10:50Speaker 2: poigntantly pointed in his shirt and as if to say,
- 10:52Speaker 2: he's one of us. Now, he's in these colors, he
- 10:55Speaker 2: belongs to us, and got quite agitated about it. And
- 10:58Speaker 2: Mark mentioned after the Grand Prix win that he appreciated
- 11:01Speaker 2: the gesture. Now I think he also knows that that's
- 11:04Speaker 2: never really going to change. That's a grudge that's going
- 11:06Speaker 2: to last for as long as Mark is on the grid.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But if the subtext of this story, if Mark is
- 11:11Speaker 2: able to move into the Ducati factory team and win
- 11:14Speaker 2: for that team, which Rossi could not do in between
- 11:17Speaker 2: his two Yamaha stints, that's going to be another way
- 11:20Speaker 2: to twist the knife with these fans who are never
- 11:22Speaker 2: going to forgive him for what happened in twenty fifteen,
- 11:24Speaker 2: and also potentially a ninth world title if he wins
- 11:26Speaker 2: this year, which equals Rossy. So there's all these little
- 11:29Speaker 2: threads with this story that it makes the booing explainable.
- 11:32Speaker 2: But Ducati were not pleased and Marque is getting that
- 11:35Speaker 2: win that's worth more than the thirty seven points that
- 11:37Speaker 2: he earned over the course of the weekend. How he
- 11:39Speaker 2: did it, where he did.
- 11:40Speaker 4: It, Yeah, it's a really interesting twist in a story.
- 11:42Speaker 4: I think we knew it was a possibility, but maybe
- 11:45Speaker 4: didn't think was going to happen quite in this way.
- 11:47Speaker 4: I mean, one hundred and ten points over the raining
- 11:50Speaker 4: champion with the raining Ducati man, Yes, not a pretty
- 11:54Speaker 4: We get into all of that, plus the state of
- 11:56Speaker 4: the Motor GP season generally, what's going on with the
- 11:58Speaker 4: rating world Champion Martin is relationship with the brilliant anymore?
- 12:02Speaker 4: With the TV World feed commentator Matt Birt in a
- 12:05Speaker 4: chat earlier today, Matt, it's good to see you.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Yeah. Likewise, Jara, great to join you guys from what
- 12:10Speaker 3: is still.
- 12:10Speaker 1: On Monday morning here in Europe. Are very hot and
- 12:14Speaker 1: sticky Tuscany. We've had a great weekend of racing here,
- 12:17Speaker 1: Britian much a three race, great man of two race
- 12:20Speaker 1: and of course get more.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Mark Marquez domination in manor GP.
- 12:25Speaker 4: I want to start with the question that I think
- 12:27Speaker 4: he's on everyone's lips, and that is, did the the
- 12:30Speaker 4: Caddy Livery scream Leonardo da Vinci and Machiavelli to you
- 12:33Speaker 4: in equal measure or is it a bit more sixty forty?
- 12:37Speaker 3: I'd say it was probably a little bit more sixty forty.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I mean, obviously we know that, you know, the Catti
- 12:42Speaker 1: love to do their their special home race liveries. I've
- 12:45Speaker 1: got to say personally, I was I was a big
- 12:47Speaker 1: fan of their Italian renaissance team, and of course I
- 12:51Speaker 1: guess it's quite appropriate that we're seeing this sort of
- 12:53Speaker 1: Mark Marquez renaissance as well, in tandem with the Catty
- 12:56Speaker 1: Livery Mark, you know, the number ninety three winning them
- 13:00Speaker 1: nineties free from his one hundred pole position to do
- 13:03Speaker 1: it in the Cantishawn race in Migello.
- 13:05Speaker 3: It was almost written in the stars for him, wasn't
- 13:07Speaker 3: it really?
- 13:09Speaker 2: Yeah, the numbers certainly were coming up for Market Magello
- 13:12Speaker 2: this weekend. But Matt my curiosity, you mentioned that eleven
- 13:15Speaker 2: year drought that he snapped at Magello. Interestingly, he did
- 13:18Speaker 2: the same thing in Qatar back in round four, where
- 13:20Speaker 2: there was an eleven year drought. There. He's got this
- 13:22Speaker 2: forty point championship lead now, which quite frankly could have
- 13:25Speaker 2: been a lot more had he not crashed a Koto
- 13:28Speaker 2: and then obviously her Reth where he got back on
- 13:29Speaker 2: board and finished twelfth. I think it was. But for you,
- 13:32Speaker 2: given that you've seen all his career from such close quarters,
- 13:35Speaker 2: He's been through so much since he won that six
- 13:38Speaker 2: Motor GP title in twenty nineteen. So to your mind,
- 13:42Speaker 2: is this the best, most complete version of Mark that
- 13:45Speaker 2: we've seen with the caveat that maybe not the outright
- 13:48Speaker 2: fastest version, but do you feel this is the most
- 13:50Speaker 2: complete package that Mark Marquez has ever been in Motor GP.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Yeah? I could not agree more. Matts.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I mean, I think right now it's very very high
- 14:00Speaker 1: to identify.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Any weakness that Marcas.
- 14:04Speaker 1: He's brillianting qualifying, he's brilliant at the start of races,
- 14:07Speaker 1: managing races, not cooking the ties too much, and then
- 14:10Speaker 1: we know how good he is at the end of
- 14:11Speaker 1: the races when he's got to manage that that rear grip.
- 14:15Speaker 3: I just don't see how Mark can be beat this year.
- 14:19Speaker 1: In the past with the Honda, he was always good
- 14:21Speaker 1: at the sort of Nagerie Narley stop and go tracks
- 14:23Speaker 1: where he was really strong on the breaks, But now
- 14:26Speaker 1: with the DCASSI, he's just there's no weak tracks.
- 14:30Speaker 3: You know, there's nothing from Mark to fear anymore.
- 14:32Speaker 1: You know, he doesn't look at a catar or a
- 14:34Speaker 1: Magello and think, Okay, I'm going to be defending. I mean,
- 14:37Speaker 1: he says he's going to come into these weekends defending,
- 14:39Speaker 1: but he's always on the front foot.
- 14:41Speaker 3: He's always attacking.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And I don't like to say after what nine Grand
- 14:46Speaker 1: Prix is that it's already looking inevitable that he's going
- 14:49Speaker 1: to run away with the championship. But I think that's
- 14:51Speaker 1: where we're at. You know, he's a one hundred and
- 14:53Speaker 1: ten points clear Peca Bangna already. We're not even halfway
- 14:56Speaker 1: through the season. So I just I can't see anybody
- 15:01Speaker 1: stopping Mark at the moment. I mean, like you said, mate,
- 15:03Speaker 1: he's winning at circuits. He hasn't won that for over
- 15:05Speaker 1: a decade. There is no chink in his armor right now.
- 15:08Speaker 1: And I said at the start the season, I think
- 15:10Speaker 1: it was, yeah, this is what's going to happen. Is
- 15:13Speaker 1: never too you put the best rider or one of
- 15:14Speaker 1: the best riders in history on the best bike in
- 15:18Speaker 1: the best team.
- 15:19Speaker 3: This is what's going to happen.
- 15:22Speaker 4: It sounds so simple on paper. We really should have
- 15:25Speaker 4: it coming. I suppose it's not such a massive surprise,
- 15:28Speaker 4: of course that Mark is on such a great bike,
- 15:30Speaker 4: is doing so well, and I do want to talk
- 15:31Speaker 4: about Marks, but the other Markers. We haven't seen this
- 15:35Speaker 4: kind of sustained success from Alex Markers in his five
- 15:39Speaker 4: previous seasons at this level. So what is behind that
- 15:43Speaker 4: superb campaign so far? Only so many points behind his
- 15:45Speaker 4: brother and second in the standings of the GP twenty four.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Obviously a really good bike, title winning bike. But it
- 15:50Speaker 4: can't all be about the bike, can it?
- 15:53Speaker 3: No? I can't.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I mean that you have to say that Alex is
- 15:55Speaker 1: on probably one of the most rounded motorcycle packages in him.
- 16:00Speaker 1: The GP twenty four was utterly dominant last year, and
- 16:05Speaker 1: you know he clearly had his weaknesses on the GP
- 16:08Speaker 1: twenty three last time around. I mean, the new generation
- 16:11Speaker 1: mixelin reattire clearly for Alex was overloading the front too much.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And Alex is very much a front end Ridery likes
- 16:17Speaker 1: to really attack aggressive on the breaks into Cornsey.
- 16:20Speaker 3: He couldn't do that last year. This year he could.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I mean from the get go, the very first lap
- 16:26Speaker 1: that Alex still on the GP twenty four in the
- 16:27Speaker 1: Barcelona test last year, he straighted where he was like,
- 16:31Speaker 1: I'm back, I'm going to be in the game in
- 16:33Speaker 1: twenty twenty five because he knew that the GP twenty
- 16:35Speaker 1: four plays to his strength as a rider, and confidence
- 16:40Speaker 1: and momentum and everything, aren't they by a GP?
- 16:42Speaker 3: And I think.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Alex from that very first lap in winter testing knew
- 16:45Speaker 1: that he now had the motorcycle that was going to
- 16:48Speaker 1: be allowing to be at the front. He had the team,
- 16:50Speaker 1: he's got the continuity in the stability with Grazzini, and
- 16:53Speaker 1: he's carried it on through the whole winter testing. He
- 16:55Speaker 1: was fastest in what to out the three winter tests
- 16:58Speaker 1: and he's just kept that ball rolling and he's.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Run the crest of a wave.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And confidence and momentum, as we say, are two great
- 17:04Speaker 1: assets that a rider can have.
- 17:08Speaker 2: It's funny, isn't it, Mattter? Like this time, well about
- 17:10Speaker 2: mid last year where the two Marquees brothers were on
- 17:13Speaker 2: the podium in Germany, you were thumbing back through the
- 17:15Speaker 2: record books to try and find out the last time
- 17:17Speaker 2: we had brothers on the same podium, and now they're
- 17:19Speaker 2: doing it basically every second weekend. But on Alex, I mean,
- 17:23Speaker 2: he's nominally Mark's biggest championship rival, but I kind of
- 17:26Speaker 2: feel there's a growing sense that maybe Alex races Mark
- 17:29Speaker 2: a little bit differently than he races other riders, which
- 17:31Speaker 2: is probably quite frankly, another advantage for Mark, not that
- 17:34Speaker 2: he needs one at this point, but to your mind,
- 17:37Speaker 2: when push comes to shove, do you feel that Alex
- 17:39Speaker 2: really would race Mark as hard as he would any
- 17:42Speaker 2: other opponent, given obviously the respect he has. I mean
- 17:45Speaker 2: they shared a bedroom as kids growing up. It's a
- 17:47Speaker 2: very very different dynamic at the top of a world championship.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Do you think Alex's destiny is maybe to consolidate second
- 17:53Speaker 2: in the championship and look behind him rather than a
- 17:56Speaker 2: head with his brother in MP one.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Yeah, this is a topic.
- 18:00Speaker 1: This crops up for quite a lot this weekend, actually,
- 18:03Speaker 1: and Mark and Alex were both asked about it in
- 18:06Speaker 1: the pressure comments yesterday, because I think.
- 18:08Speaker 3: From the fan perspective, there maybe is a growing sort
- 18:13Speaker 3: of belief.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Let's shall we say that maybe Alex is maybe a
- 18:18Speaker 1: little bit more conservative or a little bit more mindful
- 18:21Speaker 1: of what he's doing on track when he's when he's
- 18:23Speaker 1: racing closer with Mark, Alex, just as he would do,
- 18:27Speaker 1: of course, just batted it off and said, well, the
- 18:31Speaker 1: reason why he's not been able to sort of attack
- 18:33Speaker 1: Mark or be aggressive with Mark is because Mark's just
- 18:36Speaker 1: simply too fast.
- 18:37Speaker 2: You know.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Alex's point is that you overtake rising on a GP
- 18:40Speaker 1: when they're slower than you, when you're faster than them.
- 18:43Speaker 1: And Peco Banyora, i think was asked this as well
- 18:45Speaker 1: yesterday and Peco said it's inevitably in those situations.
- 18:49Speaker 3: He says, I'm.
- 18:50Speaker 1: More respectful when I'm racing Frankie Mormadelli, Luca Marini and
- 18:55Speaker 1: Marco Betseki from the VR forty six Academy because I've
- 18:58Speaker 1: grown up with those guys.
- 18:59Speaker 3: I know them, so.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Maybe i am not cautious, but it's in the back
- 19:03Speaker 1: of my mind not to be over aggressive bashing fairings
- 19:08Speaker 1: and rubbing shoulders with him. I think this will be
- 19:10Speaker 1: a theme moving forward in the championship. You know, Alex
- 19:13Speaker 1: is gonna be under a lot of scrutiny when he
- 19:16Speaker 1: is racing close in Mark. Is he not giving Mark
- 19:19Speaker 1: a free pass? But is he perhaps been that little
- 19:23Speaker 1: bit more mindful? You know, if it's Mark ahead of
- 19:26Speaker 1: him in the breaking zone or if it's pack ahead
- 19:28Speaker 1: of him in the breaking zone, would he be having
- 19:30Speaker 1: two different approaches? But yeah, both of them kind of
- 19:32Speaker 1: did bat it off in the press conference yesterday.
- 19:37Speaker 4: Well, speaking of behind Mark and Alex in this situation,
- 19:41Speaker 4: I'm talking about Pego Vanyaya's third in the standings after
- 19:45Speaker 4: nine rounds. The only race is one is the one
- 19:47Speaker 4: that Mark fell off in in Kota. It's one hundred
- 19:50Speaker 4: and ten points now only nine rounds into the season,
- 19:52Speaker 4: which is pretty remarkable, and we've heard all season a
- 19:54Speaker 4: pretty similar story. He's licking that front end feeling on
- 19:57Speaker 4: this GP twenty five. Is this scene in now? I
- 20:00Speaker 4: can think obviously that's the bike he's got his disposed
- 20:02Speaker 4: lend bad points margin. Is it a ride off from
- 20:04Speaker 4: him now? Both obviously practically but also mentally is what
- 20:08Speaker 4: I'm interested in here, because well, we expected and maybe
- 20:11Speaker 4: he must have expected at least a little bit for
- 20:12Speaker 4: this season to be about that fireworks between him and
- 20:15Speaker 4: Mark makes and the Rossi narrative obviously was bubbling away
- 20:18Speaker 4: in the background of Magello as well. Hasn't really happened, hasn't.
- 20:23Speaker 1: No, it hasn't, and it's been a, to be frank
- 20:25Speaker 1: a very tough watch. It's quite painful to see Peco
- 20:28Speaker 1: right now, both on and off the bike. Clearly on track,
- 20:32Speaker 1: he's not competitive, completely breathed of any feeling and confidence
- 20:35Speaker 1: in the front end of that CHP twenty five. Pretty
- 20:38Speaker 1: much from when he first jumped on it in Barcelona
- 20:40Speaker 1: last year, they've been sort of turning the bike upside down, left, right,
- 20:43Speaker 1: you name it. They've tried everything, and they just cannot
- 20:46Speaker 1: get him back in that sweet spot with the front
- 20:48Speaker 1: and Peko's a rye that relies so much on front confidence,
- 20:52Speaker 1: like so many.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Of them do.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Yesterday, though, I think was so so tough for him
- 20:57Speaker 1: to accept. You know, I think this year it's one
- 21:01Speaker 1: thing to be beaten by Mark on the same bike.
- 21:04Speaker 1: You know, Mark is an eight times world champion, one
- 21:06Speaker 1: of the best we've go seen in history. Being beaten
- 21:09Speaker 1: on a regular basis by Alex has been tough to take,
- 21:12Speaker 1: particularly because Alex is on the GP twenty four, which
- 21:14Speaker 1: Peco knows like the back of his hand and knows
- 21:17Speaker 1: if he was on that same baggage, he'd probably be
- 21:19Speaker 1: as competitive as Alex yesterday. Though, to be beaten in Magello,
- 21:23Speaker 1: a track where he's made his own for the last
- 21:25Speaker 1: three years by Fabio jan Antonio, taking nothing away from Fabio,
- 21:30Speaker 1: but to be the fourth and best to Catty in Magello,
- 21:34Speaker 1: who I mean, I don't think any of us saw
- 21:36Speaker 1: that coming in it and it just kind of illustrates
- 21:38Speaker 1: the sort of dark hole that the Peco finds himself
- 21:41Speaker 1: in right now. I mean, Michael, you mentioned is it
- 21:43Speaker 1: a riot off? I think in terms of the championship
- 21:45Speaker 1: one hundred percent. I mean, there's just no way in
- 21:47Speaker 1: a million years he's going to recover one hundred and
- 21:49Speaker 1: ten points back on Mark Marquez. You know, people say, oh, well,
- 21:52Speaker 1: he was ninety one points behind Quateara in twenty twenty
- 21:55Speaker 1: two and he pulled it off. Yeah, but this is
- 21:58Speaker 1: a different beast this year on a factory to Catty
- 22:01Speaker 1: and he's he's, as he said that yesterday, he's in
- 22:04Speaker 1: one of the best moments of his career. So I
- 22:06Speaker 1: think in terms of where Peco moves forward now, it's
- 22:10Speaker 1: almost like the rest of this season, it's just almost
- 22:12Speaker 1: like what twelve or thirteen test sessions for him, just
- 22:16Speaker 1: to try.
- 22:16Speaker 3: And find some feeling with that the Catties.
- 22:19Speaker 1: He's got to just forget about the champion now and
- 22:20Speaker 1: just work out away with the engineers somehow getting that
- 22:25Speaker 1: front fee back, because I mean, as we mentioned, to
- 22:27Speaker 1: not fish on the pody in Migello yesterday for him
- 22:30Speaker 1: was a real hundling experience.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and it definitely felt coming into Migello that it
- 22:36Speaker 2: was going to be Migello and Assen over that week period.
- 22:38Speaker 2: It's like, if it's ever going to happen, it's going
- 22:40Speaker 2: to be now. And certainly the returns from the first
- 22:43Speaker 2: half of that equation weren't particularly good. But Madam I
- 22:45Speaker 2: did want to switch gears here because after Aragon we
- 22:49Speaker 2: finally had the confirmation that Willsuperbike Star toprak Rerescut the
- 22:52Speaker 2: Ugly was coming to Mono GP for twenty twenty six.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I'd personally banned myself from writing about him because it
- 22:57Speaker 2: was always is he coming though he's not?
- 22:59Speaker 3: Is he coming now?
- 23:00Speaker 2: So now that he is, I can write whatever I want.
- 23:01Speaker 3: But look, he's obviously.
- 23:04Speaker 2: A huge name in that series because he's a winner,
- 23:07Speaker 2: but because of the way he wins. He's such a show,
- 23:09Speaker 2: but he's got a huge fan base and you following
- 23:12Speaker 2: for a new market for MONOGP. He's also going to
- 23:15Speaker 2: be a twenty nine year old rookie in twenty twenty six.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Those two words that usually go together. So my question
- 23:20Speaker 2: would be, what do you think, realistically we can expect
- 23:24Speaker 2: for him in this first season in the World Championship,
- 23:26Speaker 2: Because there's clearly no denying the talent. But it's not
- 23:30Speaker 2: like he's just going to come in and start replicating
- 23:32Speaker 2: all that superbikes success from day one, is it?
- 23:34Speaker 3: No?
- 23:35Speaker 1: I mean, first and foremost, I mean, it's just fantastic
- 23:37Speaker 1: that finally he decided to take the plunge and come
- 23:40Speaker 1: over to MANOGP. I mean, as you said, Matt, this
- 23:41Speaker 1: has been a story, this rumbulin, hasn't it for four
- 23:44Speaker 1: or five years now?
- 23:45Speaker 3: The will he or won't team make the move, and
- 23:47Speaker 3: finally he has.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I have to say, personally, I'm I'm quite surprised that
- 23:51Speaker 1: he's decided to come now. I thought that he would
- 23:54Speaker 1: probably stick around in superbikes for one more year, particularly
- 23:58Speaker 1: with the fact that man a GP of course makes
- 24:00Speaker 1: the move from Michelin to Perodi Tires in twenty twenty seven,
- 24:04Speaker 1: because is there much for him to gain moving over
- 24:08Speaker 1: to Michelin for one year next year and having to
- 24:10Speaker 1: change in twenty twenty seven once again onto Parodi Rubber.
- 24:14Speaker 3: I mean, let's be honest, it's amazing.
- 24:16Speaker 1: If you're a montorcycle fan, World Twuperike fan, manag GP fan,
- 24:20Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. Top Brack Mascat the old group is
- 24:22Speaker 1: box office. He is an AA list superstar. He's the
- 24:25Speaker 1: Valentine Rossi of World super Bikes. Great to see him
- 24:28Speaker 1: come over. I think it's going to be a real
- 24:31Speaker 1: tough learning curve. You know, the difference in riding style,
- 24:35Speaker 1: the switch to the tires he is going to find
- 24:37Speaker 1: very very difficult.
- 24:38Speaker 3: You know.
- 24:38Speaker 1: He's superbikes are much more forgiving. They're like sponges, you know,
- 24:41Speaker 1: they move around a lot. They're flexible. Managed GP bikes
- 24:44Speaker 1: are rigid, very race stiff. You know, he didn't exactly
- 24:47Speaker 1: cover himself in glory when he tested the Amaha previously,
- 24:50Speaker 1: clear that he feels like now the time is right.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I think initially as a rookie, he's going to be
- 24:55Speaker 1: looking at, you know, challenging for the points in the
- 24:58Speaker 1: first part of the season, then getting it in the
- 25:01Speaker 1: top ten second half of the season. If he's fighting
- 25:03Speaker 1: for podiums and victories, well then chaplo. I'll doff my captain.
- 25:07Speaker 1: But I just I can't see it happening. It's a
- 25:10Speaker 1: it's a Lions then, isn't it.
- 25:11Speaker 3: My the GP. You know, these guys have got years
- 25:13Speaker 3: of years of experience.
- 25:14Speaker 1: On these prototype motorcycles Mixlin tires.
- 25:18Speaker 3: But yeah, I admire him.
- 25:20Speaker 1: It's a bold move coming over that late in his
- 25:22Speaker 1: career to take on the world's bass.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Good luck to him.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that late in his career, and particularly with
- 25:27Speaker 2: the twenty twenty seven rule reset looming as you mentioned.
- 25:30Speaker 2: But we might get to go back to Istanbul Park Matt.
- 25:32Speaker 2: That'd be fun, wouldn't it. But while we're talking, while
- 25:36Speaker 2: we're talking, Rezcutlugli though, obviously him coming to premat Yamaha
- 25:39Speaker 2: next year means that one of Jack Miller or Miguel
- 25:41Speaker 2: Oliver has got to make way, and Yamaha has got
- 25:44Speaker 2: this stricky decision here because jackson the one year contract
- 25:47Speaker 2: and he's performing the better of the two. Let's not
- 25:49Speaker 2: talk about Magello because Jack certainly doesn't want to. But
- 25:52Speaker 2: you know, Miguel's got the twenty twenty six deal, he's
- 25:54Speaker 2: been the second best rider of that peering when he's
- 25:56Speaker 2: actually been on the bike and not injured this year.
- 25:58Speaker 2: So you know, there's obviously in Australian slant to this question,
- 26:01Speaker 2: but do you feel Jack's done enough to be retained
- 26:05Speaker 2: over McGill or done enough full stop to warrant a
- 26:08Speaker 2: seat on the grid in twenty twenty six because the
- 26:11Speaker 2: points table would indicate not, because he's nineteenth in the
- 26:13Speaker 2: standings and Magello was a disaster, as we discussed, but
- 26:18Speaker 2: we need to probably look beyond the point standings and
- 26:20Speaker 2: the impact he's had behind the scenes. Everything we hear
- 26:23Speaker 2: is very positive. But from your insider's view, do you
- 26:25Speaker 2: think he's done enough to be on the grid next year?
- 26:28Speaker 3: Yes?
- 26:29Speaker 4: I do.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not just saying that someone on Australian broadcast
- 26:32Speaker 1: deal as well.
- 26:32Speaker 3: As that I do.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I mean, I think clearly there's a there's there's clauses
- 26:38Speaker 1: in the Olive Era contract which gives the opportunity if
- 26:41Speaker 1: Yamaha see fit to cut ties with him. Clearly it
- 26:45Speaker 1: looks like it is a straight shoot out between Jack
- 26:48Speaker 1: and Meguel. I think Yeah, the championship positions aside, Matt
- 26:52Speaker 1: and the points table aside, there's a lot more for
- 26:56Speaker 1: Jack to offer Yamaha.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Yeah, it's very much in the early part of his career.
- 27:00Speaker 3: He's come from.
- 27:00Speaker 1: He's written Honter GP, He's written ktms A GP, He's
- 27:03Speaker 1: written the catsim Manter GP. So he brings a very
- 27:07Speaker 1: broad spectrum of technical knowledge to the Yamaha project. Jack's
- 27:12Speaker 1: I think a very safe pair of hands as well.
- 27:14Speaker 1: He's popular with the Pramac team. He's got an incredibly
- 27:16Speaker 1: close relationship with the management there, Power Camperozzi and Gina Borsoi,
- 27:21Speaker 1: and I think Yamaha right now, if they had to
- 27:22Speaker 1: make the decision now, I think they would take Jack.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Jack's been in this position before. Has I kind of
- 27:29Speaker 1: feel a little bit sorry from really, because it seems
- 27:31Speaker 1: like every year at this stage of the season, you know,
- 27:34Speaker 1: the media just bombarding questions with Jack, what are you
- 27:36Speaker 1: doing next year? We've got a contract next year. The
- 27:38Speaker 1: good news for Jack this time around is I mean,
- 27:41Speaker 1: I think last year, when he knew he was being
- 27:43Speaker 1: cut loose by KTM, he came to his media debrief
- 27:46Speaker 1: I remember on Thursday at Silverstone in August, and I've
- 27:49Speaker 1: never seen him look so down in my entire time
- 27:53Speaker 1: I've seen Jack in his career because at that time
- 27:55Speaker 1: the phone was not ringing, there was zero options. He
- 27:57Speaker 1: had no idea what he's going to be doing now
- 28:00Speaker 1: if if the GP future, if that road closes.
- 28:04Speaker 3: We know he's got some very good options in World Superbikes.
- 28:07Speaker 1: But Jack has made it clear. He made it clear
- 28:10Speaker 1: once again here this weekend in Magello. He's no desire
- 28:12Speaker 1: to go to World Superbikes, no disrespect to the super
- 28:15Speaker 1: bike paddock. He said, he's got great friends over there,
- 28:17Speaker 1: he loves the racing there, but he wants to stay
- 28:19Speaker 1: by the GP. Still feels like he's got a lot
- 28:21Speaker 1: to offer, still wants to be riding the best motorcycles
- 28:24Speaker 1: in the world. And I think I think Yamaha will
- 28:28Speaker 1: keep him. I think Yamaha are going to go with
- 28:30Speaker 1: Jack and top Track.
- 28:32Speaker 3: I hope so, Chris.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Then we can see the stopping competition between the two,
- 28:35Speaker 1: can't We's a promat Gama.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Well on a related Jack question, maybe not totally unrelated either,
- 28:46Speaker 4: And on off track news, I suppose we're expecting a
- 28:49Speaker 4: call on the Liberty Media acquisition of murder GPS sooner
- 28:52Speaker 4: rather than later at some point anyway, and because of
- 28:54Speaker 4: course his expectation, giving Liberty Media's track record with Formula one,
- 28:58Speaker 4: that it helps to raise the pro farll of the sport,
- 29:00Speaker 4: bringing new fans, expand the reach of it. Drive to
- 29:04Speaker 4: Survivor of course was part of the treatment in Formula one,
- 29:07Speaker 4: and that was about bringing out the characters of the sport.
- 29:09Speaker 4: And other than wondering who's going to fill the Gundesteiner
- 29:12Speaker 4: role in the Moto GP version, how important is it
- 29:16Speaker 4: in selling that Moto G product, Moto GP product that
- 29:19Speaker 4: there is more than just one other native English language
- 29:22Speaker 4: writer on the grid to counter or alongside the Spanish
- 29:26Speaker 4: and Italian contingent which is so dominant. Is Jack perhaps
- 29:29Speaker 4: better placed as well because of that, aside from his results,
- 29:32Speaker 4: for the fact that he can bring more to the sport.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:35Speaker 1: You know, I think when the Limited Media acquisition does
- 29:38Speaker 1: get to fine approve or they're going to be very
- 29:41Speaker 1: very keen to keep characters and big personalities like Jack
- 29:45Speaker 1: on board him. He just mentioned who could be that
- 29:47Speaker 1: the gund stein of Money GP, Well, gund to Steiner.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Could be that himself.
- 29:51Speaker 1: This sounds like definitely from speaking to a few close
- 29:55Speaker 1: contacts in the paddock, gund Steiner will be involved with
- 29:58Speaker 1: a manegy p team next year, most likely Tech three.
- 30:01Speaker 1: So he's going to fill his own role, I think
- 30:03Speaker 1: next year. And I think that does point to you
- 30:06Speaker 1: know that the Liberty Media's view on how they can
- 30:12Speaker 1: raise the profile of maney GP bringing in established personalities
- 30:16Speaker 1: from the from Formula one like Gunter. You know, he's
- 30:20Speaker 1: a pretty outspoken character, he's a pretty effivescent character, and
- 30:24Speaker 1: it would be a shame, particularly when somebody like Liberty
- 30:26Speaker 1: Media is coming in to lose characters like Jack because
- 30:29Speaker 1: you can, you can hang your coat on him to
- 30:32Speaker 1: be somebody that can bring in an audience. Like you said, Michael,
- 30:36Speaker 1: Liberty Media did a fantastic job. Their initial goal will
- 30:40Speaker 1: be how do we put more eyeballs on manag GP.
- 30:42Speaker 1: You know, I still think some parts of the world
- 30:44Speaker 1: it's seems a bit of a niche sport. But Liberty
- 30:47Speaker 1: Media will see this is a great opportunity. They've got
- 30:50Speaker 1: a great product. We know for a number of years
- 30:53Speaker 1: now that we've got great racing, We have got great talents.
- 30:57Speaker 1: It's just now, how do we tell these stories? To
- 31:01Speaker 1: a bigger audience, and libery to me, that's what liberty
- 31:04Speaker 1: to me to do that is their expertise. They did
- 31:06Speaker 1: it with Formula one and Fingers Crossed. I'm sure they
- 31:08Speaker 1: will be able to do that with Man a GP.
- 31:10Speaker 1: And I think if they do keep Jackman, he's going
- 31:13Speaker 1: to be a key asset to sort of building those
- 31:15Speaker 1: bridges with a newer, younger audience.
- 31:19Speaker 2: I'm just curious when they make MONOGP the movie in
- 31:22Speaker 2: a few years time, who they're going to get to
- 31:23Speaker 2: play you. I guess Brad will still be available at
- 31:26Speaker 2: that point.
- 31:26Speaker 1: But this weekend, so I've already done a deal with him.
- 31:30Speaker 1: You know he's gonna he's gonna be the lead man
- 31:32Speaker 1: playing Matt.
- 31:33Speaker 2: But right yeah, I had a word in easier he
- 31:37Speaker 2: left to he'll have to lose the locks a little bit.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Thought that's go to the same barber.
- 31:41Speaker 3: I'm not sure. I don't think it's a seamless transition
- 31:44Speaker 3: from John Wick to Matt Burt.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Never never before mentioned in the same sentence. Until I've
- 31:55Speaker 2: got one final one for you before we'll let you go,
- 31:58Speaker 2: and thank you for being so generous with time this morning,
- 32:01Speaker 2: Monday morning, after Magello We're twenty minutes into this, and
- 32:05Speaker 2: it's taken as this long to get to this particular
- 32:07Speaker 2: person because they've rarely been in the spotlight for the
- 32:09Speaker 2: right reasons the whole season. Talking about Juge Martin, our
- 32:12Speaker 2: raigning Motor GP World champion. Yes, he's at the bottom
- 32:15Speaker 2: of the standings, he's done one sprint race at about
- 32:17Speaker 2: two thirds of a Grand Prix, and he feels like
- 32:19Speaker 2: he's had about one hundred and one injury since preseason testing.
- 32:22Speaker 2: We also know he's trying to get out of this
- 32:24Speaker 2: two year a Prillier deal that he signed basically this
- 32:26Speaker 2: day last year, the Monday after Migello. How do you
- 32:30Speaker 2: see this situation playing out here, because it's pretty obvious
- 32:33Speaker 2: that both parties have lines in the sand here. And
- 32:36Speaker 2: what's your read on him wanting out of a Prillier
- 32:38Speaker 2: with so little experience of this manufacturer that he signed
- 32:42Speaker 2: so spontaneously for last year. And I guess, as aside
- 32:45Speaker 2: to that, if he's looking to get to Honda, which
- 32:47Speaker 2: seems to be the rumor during a Honda might be
- 32:50Speaker 2: a little bit wary here because people forget Martin was
- 32:53Speaker 2: supposed to come to motor GP with KTM back in
- 32:55Speaker 2: twenty twenty one, and he managed to worm his way
- 32:57Speaker 2: out of that one with some contract legal ease. If
- 33:00Speaker 2: you're hondering, you're a little bit wary of perhaps someone
- 33:02Speaker 2: that's done this to two other manufacturers. Or does the
- 33:04Speaker 2: stop watch win out in the end.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I think the stop watching racing will always win out,
- 33:09Speaker 1: especially when you're in a situation like Honda are where
- 33:12Speaker 1: Alberto Pooch said it a few weeks ago. If if
- 33:15Speaker 1: he said he was paying to point out that if,
- 33:18Speaker 1: I don't think he wanted to be sort of treading
- 33:19Speaker 1: on his toes in terms of the contract situation.
- 33:23Speaker 3: But I think it's clear, absolutely clear that if Jorge was.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Available, if he was interested in coming to Honda, well,
- 33:30Speaker 1: Honda would have the door wide open.
- 33:31Speaker 3: They'd be rolling out the.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Red car before him, because they clearly feel that they're
- 33:35Speaker 1: making progress with the r C two on three V.
- 33:37Speaker 1: They just need a name, They just need a superstar
- 33:40Speaker 1: on board that bike to.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Take it back to the next level.
- 33:42Speaker 1: It's a bit of a minefield, isn't it right now
- 33:44Speaker 1: with a prilier and Haway's contract situation. I mean, I
- 33:47Speaker 1: don't think anybody nobody saw the situation arise where having
- 33:53Speaker 1: finished one sprint in half of the Grand Prix that
- 33:56Speaker 1: he was going to be trying to jump ship. You
- 34:00Speaker 1: could see a prize reaction. I mean they were completely
- 34:03Speaker 1: caught cold. I mean, if you're looking at the legality
- 34:07Speaker 1: of the contract, I guess you knowes perfectly with his
- 34:09Speaker 1: rights to exercise a clause which he feels is there.
- 34:14Speaker 1: I mean, has he given a preier a fair crack
- 34:17Speaker 1: of the whip? Well you have to say no, you know,
- 34:19Speaker 1: I think he did ninety odd laps at the test
- 34:21Speaker 1: in November, he did thirteen laps into bang before he
- 34:24Speaker 1: was trying to be the first Spaniard on the moon,
- 34:27Speaker 1: and then came back in kata. Yeah, and we all
- 34:31Speaker 1: know what happened there. So yeah, it's very very difficult,
- 34:35Speaker 1: isn't it to get inside the mind of an elite
- 34:37Speaker 1: athlete who you know, who.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Has a short career.
- 34:40Speaker 1: If a Prillier does not feel that a prier are
- 34:43Speaker 1: making the strides or are going to be competitive enough
- 34:47Speaker 1: for him to win another championship, and he feels that
- 34:50Speaker 1: Honda on the app Honda might roll out with an
- 34:52Speaker 1: absolute weapon.
- 34:53Speaker 3: When we moved to eight fifties in twenty twenty seven.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Honda clearly going to have a bigger budget, a bigger
- 34:58Speaker 1: race department than what a p there are, So there
- 35:00Speaker 1: are so many.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Factors at play. If from a personal start, I think
- 35:03Speaker 3: it will be disappointing.
- 35:04Speaker 1: I feel really really sorry for a Prillier if he
- 35:07Speaker 1: was to enforce the clause and make the move out.
- 35:11Speaker 1: The more people you talk to Prillier, the more sort
- 35:13Speaker 1: of confident they are at sort of smoothing the chopping waters.
- 35:15Speaker 3: But who knows.
- 35:17Speaker 1: There's only two people on planet Earth and know what's
- 35:19Speaker 1: going on that saw him, Marti and his manager Albert Balaira.
- 35:22Speaker 3: You know, and let's see how it plays out.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I mean hopefully with this a few vibes around this
- 35:27Speaker 1: weekend that Joe may be looking at coming back at
- 35:29Speaker 1: Germany in the Sacks Ring, and we know what he does,
- 35:33Speaker 1: He's going to be absolutely bombarded with question. It's not
- 35:34Speaker 1: about the injuries or the comeback, but is he gonna
- 35:36Speaker 1: be an a Prillier or on the next year.
- 35:39Speaker 4: M Yeah, a remarkable story, potentially great news if you're
- 35:43Speaker 4: a lawyer contracted to Honda contact lawyer in particular, Matt.
- 35:47Speaker 4: Thank you so much for your time. Like we say
- 35:50Speaker 4: the day after Magello this weekend's ass and will be
- 35:52Speaker 4: able to hear your voice in the commentary then. But
- 35:55Speaker 4: until then, Matt Bert, the John Wickermodo GP. Thanks So next.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Time this guy's pleasure catch up.
- 36:01Speaker 4: You see that was Matt Bert, the TV World Feed commentator.
- 36:04Speaker 4: You'll be able to hear him over the coverage on
- 36:06Speaker 4: Fox Sports and KO this weekend of the asen TT.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Whether or not Banaya features at the very front further down,
- 36:13Speaker 4: we'll wait and see. Crystal Baul is still coming up.
- 36:16Speaker 4: But before we move on completely, we've got to go
- 36:19Speaker 4: to Move of the Week by Shannon's so Supercars and
- 36:25Speaker 4: Motor GP to choose from here? Both great tracks. Where
- 36:28Speaker 4: are you going with?
- 36:28Speaker 2: I think you know where I'm going. It's going to
- 36:30Speaker 2: be two wheels because Migello is if it's not the
- 36:33Speaker 2: best Motor GP track in the world, it's a clevery
- 36:35Speaker 2: close second behind Philip Island. But to me, the move
- 36:37Speaker 2: of the week was the move that put Picko bag
- 36:39Speaker 2: off the podium at this track where he has dominated
- 36:42Speaker 2: for the best part of three years. Fabio de jen Antonio.
- 36:45Speaker 2: The fact that he was going to be the leading
- 36:47Speaker 2: Italian and finishing on a podium at his home Grand Prix.
- 36:51Speaker 2: He had unbelievable pace at the end of that Grand
- 36:53Speaker 2: Prix and Banya I was kind of hanging on at
- 36:55Speaker 2: that point, but you thought he was going to run
- 36:56Speaker 2: out of laps. The Jane Antonio put an unbelievably slip
- 37:00Speaker 2: move on him with two laps to go and clear
- 37:01Speaker 2: it off and was on the podium and his home
- 37:03Speaker 2: Grand Prix for the first time. Also gave me the
- 37:05Speaker 2: quote of the weekend as well as the movie of
- 37:06Speaker 2: the week as well. He said, he looked at his
- 37:08Speaker 2: pit ball with three laps to go, he said P four.
- 37:10Speaker 2: He said, no, not today, not P four, P three,
- 37:13Speaker 2: and he said it was going to be Champagne or gravel.
- 37:15Speaker 4: And he got champagne. He did not today. Great resolutions
- 37:20Speaker 4: of an athlete.
- 37:20Speaker 2: I'm assuming you're going Hidden Valley here.
- 37:22Speaker 4: No, actually, I'm going Moto GP because I enjoyed the
- 37:25Speaker 4: week I enjoyed the meaningfulness of this weekend, and I
- 37:28Speaker 4: love Magello Formula one race there and he was as
- 37:30Speaker 4: a film. I was the first time I'd seen I've
- 37:31Speaker 4: been watching Moto GP, but I think it enlivened me
- 37:35Speaker 4: to how great it was to see a different sport
- 37:37Speaker 4: on that. Yeah, So I'm sticking with Magello. I'm sticking
- 37:40Speaker 4: with it. Wasn't a race winning move. It could have been,
- 37:42Speaker 4: But was Alex Marquez on lap two of the stringt
- 37:45Speaker 4: the three into turn one. Anytime he had three into turn
- 37:48Speaker 4: one anywhere in any sport is very exciting. But that circuit, Yeah,
- 37:52Speaker 4: and that's it because it's the fastest point on any
- 37:54Speaker 4: circuit on Motorgibi calendar, and there's just a lot to
- 37:57Speaker 4: process ago.
- 37:59Speaker 2: They are shedding about two hundred and sixty five k's
- 38:01Speaker 2: an hour from the speed trap into turn one at Sandinato,
- 38:05Speaker 2: which doesn't even seem possible. And then when you're seeing
- 38:08Speaker 2: bikes fan out to try and take different apexes into
- 38:11Speaker 2: term one, it's one of those breaking zones, particularly with
- 38:13Speaker 2: Moto three when there's like ten of them, you kind
- 38:16Speaker 2: of hide behind the couch like you can't wait to
- 38:18Speaker 2: watch it, but you're also very wary of the consequences.
- 38:21Speaker 2: It's a very, very crazy corner. But watching you know,
- 38:24Speaker 2: motor gpeople like doing mid three sixties through the speed
- 38:27Speaker 2: trap at Magello, it is absolutely bonkers.
- 38:29Speaker 4: Shouldn't be possible. I realized my jaw always hurts after
- 38:32Speaker 4: watching a race because it's just constantly stressed about it.
- 38:35Speaker 4: But I thought it was really gutsy move. I mean it
- 38:37Speaker 4: plays in a little bit while we're talking about with Map,
- 38:39Speaker 4: you know, does E race when it's just spanyaob nine
- 38:41Speaker 4: another rider compared to his brother a little bit differently
- 38:43Speaker 4: because that was very gutsy. But you didn't see it
- 38:46Speaker 4: when it was just marking the lead. He saw when
- 38:48Speaker 4: it was both ride this Overtex. But I thought it
- 38:50Speaker 4: was really great, great demonstration of what's so exciting about
- 38:53Speaker 4: this track. It's been really good as well, as we
- 38:55Speaker 4: were talking about earlier, to see Alex in such competitive form,
- 38:58Speaker 4: to be in this great vein of form, and look,
- 39:00Speaker 4: you do talk about the title being all but done
- 39:01Speaker 4: and it's difficult to imagine him overcoming his brother, but
- 39:04Speaker 4: he's only thirty points or forty points now forty po ok,
- 39:08Speaker 4: it wasn't the start of the again, but forty points
- 39:10Speaker 4: is within the realms of possibility. Because we were talking
- 39:12Speaker 4: the only he can't beat Mark, but Mark could beat.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Mark, and Mark has beaten Mark in the past. Because
- 39:18Speaker 2: he's already thrown away a couple of good, big results
- 39:20Speaker 2: this year, and we know he can do that. But
- 39:21Speaker 2: the thing I like about the Alex Marquez story is
- 39:23Speaker 2: I like a guy when they've been in any sport
- 39:26Speaker 2: for five or six years and you think you've worked
- 39:28Speaker 2: out who they are and what they are. He's completely
- 39:31Speaker 2: defied anything he's done in the previous five or six years.
- 39:34Speaker 2: You don't generally get this kick along in your career
- 39:36Speaker 2: in your late twenties. You kind of are fully formed
- 39:38Speaker 2: at this point, and I don't think any of us
- 39:41Speaker 2: saw this level that he had coming. He's been genuinely
- 39:43Speaker 2: outstanding this year. He's just the second best rider his
- 39:46Speaker 2: own family.
- 39:48Speaker 4: That is unfortunate, yes, but look what can you do.
- 39:50Speaker 4: That's the way it is. Let's move on now, though,
- 39:53Speaker 4: to Formula One. This weekend the Austrian Grand Prix, the
- 39:55Speaker 4: sport resumes. It's been unusually for everyone. I think it's
- 39:57Speaker 4: only one race in the last four weekends, aw three weekends,
- 40:01Speaker 4: four weeks, pretty much very leisurely for everyone. We've got
- 40:04Speaker 4: two double headers to bring it home to the mid
- 40:06Speaker 4: season break, and these could be really important races, particularly
- 40:08Speaker 4: the next two Austria and then Silverstone after that in
- 40:11Speaker 4: Great Britain. Because reports ahead of the previous race in
- 40:14Speaker 4: the Canadian Grand Prix, and the Italian media suggested that
- 40:16Speaker 4: Patients is running out at Ferrari for team principal Frederick
- 40:19Speaker 4: Vasser because of the team's poor start to this season.
- 40:22Speaker 4: He's a boss only a few years into the job,
- 40:24Speaker 4: brought about to replace the other disappointing start to a
- 40:28Speaker 4: season teens always MATI b story as old as time.
- 40:32Speaker 4: But the fact that this came out in a coordinated way,
- 40:35Speaker 4: this was several big newspapers in particular, all reporting at
- 40:38Speaker 4: the same time. It's not that it's a campaign that
- 40:41Speaker 4: might be your immediate reaction, but rather it's the fact
- 40:45Speaker 4: that there's always a little bit of something in these reports. Media.
- 40:50Speaker 4: It's renowned for being hot headed whatever, but it's not,
- 40:53Speaker 4: you know, it's not just making stuff up. In the circumstances.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Ferrari has, for what it's worth, denied it in the
- 40:59Speaker 4: sense they've decided or the statement was that they're not
- 41:02Speaker 4: going to dignify it with a response. You might cast
- 41:05Speaker 4: your minds back only a few years to when it
- 41:07Speaker 4: fulsomly and wholesomely denied, mative and not I was going
- 41:10Speaker 4: to be sax. Indeed, month or two before he was sas,
- 41:13Speaker 4: but it's come on very quickly. You know, this has
- 41:14Speaker 4: been a poor start to the season for Ferrari. Their
- 41:17Speaker 4: holds now being picked. In Frederick Vassar's position, I mean,
- 41:20Speaker 4: what's your take on the way this season has started,
- 41:22Speaker 4: because it definitely has been below expectations. But this feels
- 41:24Speaker 4: a little bit hasty.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Look, as far as the media narrative and the management
- 41:29Speaker 2: narrative go, is this not just a product of communication
- 41:32Speaker 2: on both sides, in that the press, there is a communication,
- 41:37Speaker 2: there's a consistency with the communication and the message they're
- 41:40Speaker 2: putting out. Vassa is not going to manage Ferrari in
- 41:43Speaker 2: the way that perhaps an Italian might manage Ferrari, or
- 41:45Speaker 2: certainly but not I did or someone else. Further on
- 41:47Speaker 2: the line. He has his own syncratic style, and I'm
- 41:51Speaker 2: wondering if how much of this is I think they're
- 41:54Speaker 2: very aware that it's been underwhelming at the start of
- 41:56Speaker 2: the season, but he has a different way of responding
- 41:58Speaker 2: to that than perhaps some of his predecessors might have,
- 42:00Speaker 2: and perhaps in a way that the Italian media in
- 42:03Speaker 2: this situation aren't necessarily enjoying. So I'm wondering if this
- 42:06Speaker 2: is a reaction to the way Vassura is handling what's
- 42:09Speaker 2: going on Ferrari as opposed to just the actual performance itself.
- 42:13Speaker 2: It's more a perception that do you need to be
- 42:15Speaker 2: reacting more strongly to this underperformance because I don't think
- 42:18Speaker 2: anyone's going to disagree that they have underperformed so far
- 42:20Speaker 2: this year. But how much of it is the reaction
- 42:22Speaker 2: to the underperformance than the actual underperformance itself.
- 42:25Speaker 4: Yes, And I think communication is a really good thing
- 42:28Speaker 4: to insert here because one of the most important things
- 42:31Speaker 4: that vass has done in his team principleship other than
- 42:34Speaker 4: sort of steady of the ship, WHI yet more management
- 42:36Speaker 4: upheaval and straighten out the pitball a bit because strategically
- 42:40Speaker 4: we all love to make fun of Ferrari on the pitwall,
- 42:42Speaker 4: but it is a tighter ship now than it was
- 42:44Speaker 4: when you took made mistakes this year. But you know,
- 42:46Speaker 4: every team has it's the idea of being that shield
- 42:50Speaker 4: over the team, because that's inevitably in its successful periods,
- 42:53Speaker 4: has been a team princil has been able to cop
- 42:55Speaker 4: the flak and let the team not feel the pressure
- 42:57Speaker 4: of the media. He's done generally good job of that,
- 43:00Speaker 4: but What strikes me is that his willingness to be defensive,
- 43:06Speaker 4: or his attitude or his approach to being defensive is
- 43:08Speaker 4: to not give really anything away, which is which is
- 43:11Speaker 4: okay when there's signs of progress. But I think when
- 43:14Speaker 4: you have, as you say, that underperformance and the response
- 43:16Speaker 4: to that under performance, you know, it's not clear what
- 43:19Speaker 4: upgrades are coming, and it's not clear that the team
- 43:21Speaker 4: understands its problems because he refuses to talk about this,
- 43:24Speaker 4: and it's not clear what Lewis Hamilton's problems adapting to
- 43:27Speaker 4: the car is because he doesn't want to talk about them.
- 43:29Speaker 4: And I think that that eventually when you can't see progress,
- 43:32Speaker 4: and we shouldn't forget Italian Ferrari's status essentially as an
- 43:35Speaker 4: Italian national team. Yes, that's not the case. It's a
- 43:37Speaker 4: private company. There is a certain responsibility there to have
- 43:43Speaker 4: no information about why it's gone so wrong this year
- 43:46Speaker 4: relative to expectations last year. I think does invite some criticism.
- 43:50Speaker 4: Now he's he's objected quite a lot to the to
- 43:53Speaker 4: some newspaper reports identifying problem individuals in his team, in
- 43:57Speaker 4: particular his new technical directory from Mercedes Lloyd Sarah. I
- 44:02Speaker 4: understand that, but I think there is space for him
- 44:06Speaker 4: to have done this job a little bit differently, doesn't
- 44:08Speaker 4: warrant him being sacked, but to have not attracted this
- 44:12Speaker 4: sudden on sort of criticism, which now, and this is
- 44:14Speaker 4: the part I think there is a little bit of
- 44:15Speaker 4: a problem. He's now saying we can't win a championship
- 44:19Speaker 4: with media like this, and that I don't like to
- 44:21Speaker 4: see that because that seems very deflective to me a
- 44:23Speaker 4: little bit.
- 44:24Speaker 2: I mean, he's very protective of the employees, which I think,
- 44:27Speaker 2: which I think is correct, and I think that's where
- 44:29Speaker 2: Ferrari's tripped itself up in the past. This strikes me
- 44:33Speaker 2: it's more a selling of the message than the natural
- 44:35Speaker 2: message itself. And I think there's this I'm going to
- 44:38Speaker 2: put the shutters up and say nothing rather than try
- 44:40Speaker 2: and spin a story. And perhaps there needs to be
- 44:43Speaker 2: a little bit of give and take here is like
- 44:44Speaker 2: we will throw you a bone and sell you a
- 44:46Speaker 2: vision of this. Now it's still not come to fruition,
- 44:49Speaker 2: but we're almost letting you in on the inside. And
- 44:51Speaker 2: this is what we are trying to do to fix this,
- 44:53Speaker 2: as opposed to just lead us to fix it and
- 44:55Speaker 2: don't ask any more. Questions. So perhaps it's a sales
- 44:58Speaker 2: position there, and that could be something that's cultural lost
- 45:01Speaker 2: in translation. He's not going. He doesn't want to be
- 45:04Speaker 2: seen to be marching to the drum that's being the
- 45:07Speaker 2: drum of the Italian press in this situation, and so
- 45:10Speaker 2: with no information to report upon, then you end up
- 45:12Speaker 2: with these sort of orchestrated things of what happened in Canada.
- 45:15Speaker 2: So look, the great soul for all of this is,
- 45:18Speaker 2: let's get some good results. But we know this year
- 45:21Speaker 2: that hasn't necessarily happened with Ferrari, and given we've got
- 45:24Speaker 2: such a rule change coming in for twenty six here,
- 45:26Speaker 2: it would actually be silly for Ferrari to direct too
- 45:28Speaker 2: much attention into twenty twenty five. The problem being we've
- 45:31Speaker 2: still got so long of this season to go, and
- 45:34Speaker 2: if Ferrari is sort of cast adrift from these teams
- 45:37Speaker 2: up the top, that pressure is only going to increase.
- 45:39Speaker 2: The last thing you knowed just Ferrari going into a
- 45:41Speaker 2: new rule set is more management upheaval, and you need
- 45:44Speaker 2: stability and a chance to move forward, not a lot
- 45:46Speaker 2: of stuff going on behind the scenes.
- 45:47Speaker 4: I think, yeah, exactly right, and it's people will have
- 45:50Speaker 4: their own opinions of the job that has done, and
- 45:53Speaker 4: you do want to go into next year's rule changes
- 45:55Speaker 4: with a solid setup, but the time to make those
- 45:58Speaker 4: changes has passed. I think vass is not exactly the
- 46:01Speaker 4: right man for the job. I don't think there's anyone
- 46:02Speaker 4: who thinks he's not a good enough man for the job,
- 46:05Speaker 4: if that makes sense. He's got track record in all
- 46:07Speaker 4: junior series. He's clearly done a good job at what
- 46:09Speaker 4: he's done Ferraris so far, and if this season's been disappointed,
- 46:12Speaker 4: and this has been one season in which the progress
- 46:14Speaker 4: has not been positive, and it uses you say, a
- 46:17Speaker 4: year before a major rule change, when attention naturally should
- 46:20Speaker 4: be looking to next year anyway, So it'd be very
- 46:22Speaker 4: interesting to see how this develops. The reason why the
- 46:23Speaker 4: next two races could be important is that some of
- 46:26Speaker 4: those reports are pegged Canada, which wasn't great, and the
- 46:30Speaker 4: next two races as being the test for him before
- 46:32Speaker 4: Ferrari decides whether or not to move Hi along. This
- 46:34Speaker 4: is the end of his contract as well, so it
- 46:35Speaker 4: wouldn't necessarily be a case of sudden sacking if you
- 46:38Speaker 4: like to stress it like that. And weirdly, some of
- 46:41Speaker 4: the pressures coming from elsewhere in the organization, because of
- 46:43Speaker 4: course Antonello Coletta, who runs the World Endurance or the
- 46:46Speaker 4: Endurance arm of Ferrari, for Ferrari's doing pretty well in
- 46:50Speaker 4: the World Endurance cham.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Doing rather well. Yes, bad confluence of timing, wasn't it.
- 46:54Speaker 4: No, So we'll wait and see how this one develops.
- 46:56Speaker 4: They could really use a good result in Austria. Maybe
- 47:00Speaker 4: you'd like to predict it in the crystal Ball not
- 47:02Speaker 4: do by complete home filtration.
- 47:06Speaker 2: No, I would not.
- 47:07Speaker 4: Maybe it is working a bit better.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Than Wow, my crystal ball if on in Austria, I
- 47:14Speaker 2: don't like to say this with my Oscar past Australian
- 47:17Speaker 2: hat on here. I think this is the Lando Norris weekend. Oh,
- 47:21Speaker 2: simply because he's got form here. Remember his first F
- 47:24Speaker 2: one podium is here in twenty twenty. He's always been
- 47:26Speaker 2: very good around here and quite frankly, it should have
- 47:27Speaker 2: won it last year, but there was a bit of
- 47:30Speaker 2: a problem with Max fistap and it turned three at
- 47:32Speaker 2: the Red Bull Ring, which is you know, stop me
- 47:34Speaker 2: if you've heard that one before. But this feels to
- 47:36Speaker 2: me like a bit of a McLaren bounce back weekend
- 47:39Speaker 2: there was a little bit muted in Canada, and Canada
- 47:41Speaker 2: is such a weird outlier of a track. Austria is,
- 47:45Speaker 2: you know, the world's fastest go cart track. It's a
- 47:47Speaker 2: very very simple layer. It's a layout that should suit McLaren.
- 47:50Speaker 2: I can see Norris being very very good here. I
- 47:52Speaker 2: can also see you up until about four o'clock in
- 47:54Speaker 2: the morning if Red Bull lose in some situation at
- 47:57Speaker 2: home they don't like, and we have Christian Hall to
- 48:00Speaker 2: bring print outs to his post brief debrief, and I'll
- 48:03Speaker 2: see that you're still active on what'sapp at six thirty am.
- 48:05Speaker 4: As long as George Russell doesn't win, and we're saying probably,
- 48:08Speaker 4: we're probably fine, We're probably fine.
- 48:10Speaker 2: What's your crystal ball is batting a very high percentage
- 48:13Speaker 2: at the moment, so.
- 48:14Speaker 4: Well, good news for you. Is was quite a similar prediction,
- 48:16Speaker 4: but it's more it is Lando Norris specific, because this
- 48:20Speaker 4: is a big moment for Lando Norris. The crash after
- 48:22Speaker 4: Canada has a great potential to damage his confidence. Now
- 48:26Speaker 4: that's not the way he says. He works and look
- 48:27Speaker 4: at remains to be seen. Maybe just has a perfectly
- 48:29Speaker 4: normal Norris weekend. He makes a mistake in Q three,
- 48:31Speaker 4: I finished the second or third, that's fine, But I
- 48:34Speaker 4: think this is because red Will normally does quite well here.
- 48:36Speaker 4: Max normally does quite well here as well. I think
- 48:38Speaker 4: that the coincidence of factors is going to lead us
- 48:41Speaker 4: to a not a repeat of what happened last year,
- 48:43Speaker 4: but he's going to have his chance to fight Max again,
- 48:46Speaker 4: and I think this is the opportunity for him to
- 48:48Speaker 4: definitively prove whether or not he's got it this year.
- 48:50Speaker 4: And I think he's going to beat Max in some capacity.
- 48:52Speaker 4: Turn three, maybe turn one, who's to say. But this
- 48:56Speaker 4: is his opportunity not simply to win the race, but
- 48:58Speaker 4: it might not be the case of winning the race,
- 49:00Speaker 4: but to actually start making progress on all those things
- 49:04Speaker 4: we are denoting to him now saying that he can't
- 49:06Speaker 4: fight Max. For staffing, he doesn't have the confidence of
- 49:08Speaker 4: the races, he can't qualify well, it's a long list
- 49:10Speaker 4: now of reasons he won't win the championship. Correct, it's
- 49:13Speaker 4: too early to say he won't win the championship, but
- 49:15Speaker 4: I think this is the first race where he's going
- 49:16Speaker 4: and not seem they have a good weekend, but tick.
- 49:18Speaker 2: One of them off and the fact that comes well
- 49:20Speaker 2: and the fact that comes so soon after Canada, and
- 49:22Speaker 2: this is the time to write that, because if you
- 49:24Speaker 2: want to change a narrative, you need to do that
- 49:26Speaker 2: asap after what happened in Montreal. They kind of got
- 49:29Speaker 2: away with it with what happened with Pastrian in Montreal
- 49:32Speaker 2: because it wasn't for a race win and Piastre was
- 49:34Speaker 2: able to at least get some points and Norris was
- 49:36Speaker 2: the biggest victim of his own mistake. But you need
- 49:38Speaker 2: to address this right now, or this narrative just runs
- 49:40Speaker 2: and runs and runs, and this weekend might be the
- 49:42Speaker 2: weekend he does it.
- 49:43Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. So it's important for him because if nothing else,
- 49:46Speaker 4: there's only four rounds left till the mid season break,
- 49:48Speaker 4: and you don't want to be going to the mid
- 49:49Speaker 4: season break on a low, considering his season has not
- 49:52Speaker 4: gone to plan. One of these races at least is
- 49:55Speaker 4: going to show a little bit of fight and get
- 49:57Speaker 4: a few back over Oscar. If you think he's going
- 49:58Speaker 4: to challenge for the title, lot that we need the
- 50:01Speaker 4: championship Roscopias for ennything other than good news for Australia obviously,
- 50:05Speaker 4: but many weeks to find out how that one unravels.
- 50:07Speaker 4: But that's all the time we have for Pittalk today.
