- 1:17speaks life. I am thrilled.
- 1:19You are here today. Good morning.
- 1:22I'm happy to be with you as well.
- 1:23I'm excited to share with you and your audience.
- 1:26I love this topic that we're going to be talking about
- 1:29Purpose. I think most of us can relate
- 1:32and I think some of us can even get it confused.
- 1:35You know, what's purpose versus calling and all that.
- 1:39And I think, the more we talk about purpose, the better it
- 1:42will be. And before we dive into your
- 1:46story and your fabulous book, could you share with us your
- 1:51favorite scripture verse and why?
- 1:54Yes, my favorite scripture verse is Luke 1:45 and it reads.
- 2:00It is, she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his
- 2:03promises to her. And that is my anchor scripture.
- 2:08Because to be blessed is to just be in a space of knowing that
- 2:12all of your needs are met knowing that you can be content
- 2:15with the outcome of whatever is going on in life.
- 2:18And that assurance that comes from knowing that God who has
- 2:22said that he would do a thing is certainly going to do it.
- 2:26Yeah. Amen.
- 2:27I love that first to it's One of my favorites.
- 2:31It's just so reassuring. He is faithful.
- 2:34And like you're saying, no matter what.
- 2:37He's got our backs. He's already gone before us and
- 2:40he never fails. I just love it.
- 2:43Okay. So I would love for you to start
- 2:47us off with a little more about who you are.
- 2:50And share is about your story. You have a book that's out.
- 2:55It's called she said, yes, it's time to answer the call to
- 2:58purpose. So tell us what brought you to
- 3:03write this awesome book? What brought me to write this
- 3:06book was a nagging feeling that there was something more that I
- 3:09should be doing that. I couldn't really rest.
- 3:14Well, even in what I thought to be accomplishments because I
- 3:17felt like there was something more, and that thing kept me up
- 3:21at night and actually, I'll tell you that, I'm also in Ministry.
- 3:25So I shared a message by that title a couple years prior and
- 3:29At that time, I felt like hmm. I'm not sure if I'm done with
- 3:33that, but I didn't quite know that it would end up being a
- 3:36book, but of course, as God does, he wouldn't.
- 3:39Let me go with the title. So it came full circle.
- 3:43When later I was actually at my job, I've been promoted on my
- 3:48job. I'd gotten a graduate degree
- 3:50going back to school. My kids were grown and I
- 3:52thought, you know, this is my time, right?
- 3:55And I'm on this job. Asking the question God, am I
- 4:00doing the right thing? Am I in the right place?
- 4:03And he really sent a message to me, to let me know that there's
- 4:09something that I do want you to do and it was such an unusual
- 4:12encounter that it was no mistaking.
- 4:14That it was truly God and just to give you a little back story,
- 4:19I written another book. It was a devotional for single
- 4:22mothers and that was written. As at a time in my life, when I
- 4:26unexpectedly became a single Mom through divorce and I was
- 4:30looking for encouragement and inspiration and just how can I
- 4:33navigate this season in my life? And as a result, I started to
- 4:37journal and the outcome of my journaling.
- 4:40And my encouraging myself was a devotional that I could also use
- 4:44to encourage others, because oftentimes God will take our
- 4:48experiences, take us through experiences and then we can turn
- 4:51around and also be an encouragement to others.
- 4:54So, I wrote that book several years ago and it was a Ocean
- 4:58again, for single mothers, fast forward to this encounter where
- 5:02I was tapped on the shoulder to be reminded that my obedience
- 5:06was important. I had interviewed a young lady
- 5:09for a job. I was working in Human Resources
- 5:12as a recruiter and after the interview was over, she reached
- 5:17out to me and she asked me if I had written a book and I said
- 5:21yes and I'm curious you know where this is coming from, she
- 5:25shared with me that she had read my book and it came at a time in
- 5:31her life when she was at an all-time low.
- 5:34She was in a situation where she had left a marriage due to
- 5:38domestic violence. So she was living in a shelter
- 5:41with her children. Her esteem was low and she
- 5:44really didn't feel that she held much worth and she didn't want
- 5:47to miss the opportunity to tell me thank you because my words
- 5:51brought her through one of the most challenging times in her
- 5:54life and of course, I was taken aback because I had no idea how
- 6:00the book Wild up in the shelter, but we know, God knows
- 6:03everything, right? And also that it had been years
- 6:07since I've written that book, but the impression I was left
- 6:10with was okay, Daphne, you've written a book and God allowed
- 6:15this messenger many years later, to remind you that that act of
- 6:20obedience made the difference. For someone, it's time for you
- 6:25to answer your Your call to that purpose in you and that is to
- 6:29write that next book, that I had been really kind of putting on
- 6:33the back burner and I knew it was.
- 6:35She said, yes. And partially it was me saying,
- 6:37yes. First, you know, to the
- 6:39assignment that I knew God had for me and I take my readers
- 6:43through the Journey as well to encourage them to say, yes.
- 6:45So that's how I got to the title.
- 6:47And that's how I got to the book.
- 6:50I love that. Oh my goodness.
- 6:52Yeah. And I love how you doing Evan
- 6:54nowhere book goes because Is the one that, you know, gross things
- 6:59and increases and, you know, spreads it throughout the four
- 7:03corners of the earth like it's all him doing it and there's
- 7:07nothing better than putting in all that effort and time and
- 7:13just the, the heart of it all to write a book.
- 7:17And then to have a testimony of what, how your words made an
- 7:21impact on somebody's life. I mean, it's just nothing like
- 7:24it. I'm sure.
- 7:25And and that was Like that boost that you needed to get you to
- 7:30write that next book, such a great story.
- 7:32Okay. So share about this book and
- 7:37what you talk about. You talk about maybe
- 7:40rediscovering your power after disappointment or finding
- 7:43purpose and the new season. Walk us through the book.
- 7:47Sure, sure, I will share with you that this book is based on a
- 7:52biblical story that many of us are familiar with and that is
- 7:55the story of Maryville. Mary who was encountered by an
- 7:58Angel to let her know that she had been chosen for an
- 8:02assignment. And we know that assignment was
- 8:05that she would be the carrier and give birth to our Savior.
- 8:08Jesus Christ. And as a result of her yes it
- 8:12changed the world in. So my premise is that we all
- 8:18have A purpose. We all have an assignment and
- 8:23that if we choose to consent to that tap on the shoulder or that
- 8:29nudge that we receive that there is more that perhaps we could be
- 8:32doing, that would make a difference that are yes.
- 8:35Will also make a difference for someone else?
- 8:39And also my premise is that if you hesitate to say yes not only
- 8:45will you miss the blessing. But you may also Miss someone
- 8:50else's blessing, you may call someone else to miss their
- 8:53blessing and I think back to the story, I share it with you.
- 8:57Where the young lady said, your book met me at an all-time low.
- 9:01Now just suppose I had decided that sounds like a great idea
- 9:07but I'm not going to do it. Then that person who at their
- 9:11moment of need would not have had the resource at least,
- 9:14through me to be able to receive the encouragement that she
- 9:18needed at that given time. Time.
- 9:19So again, you know, we hold up, perhaps someone else's Freedom,
- 9:24someone's blessing, someone's encouragement.
- 9:26When we hesitate to step out and do whatever it is, that God is
- 9:32calling us to do. And I think the other thing I
- 9:34try to emphasize in the book is that it doesn't have to be huge.
- 9:39Your yes, does not have to be something as huge of an
- 9:42assignment as you know, Mary the Simon obviously but that it will
- 9:46make a difference and it will bring you Joy.
- 9:49Boy, it will also bring glory to God as well.
- 9:52That's right. So often it's the small.
- 9:55Yes. And then later on, then you're
- 9:58like, wow, you know, it was big, it turned out to be big, but it
- 10:02starts out so small. I was just studying Ruth and
- 10:06Naomi and how that's another seen a situation where, you
- 10:12know, if Ruth didn't go with Naomi to wear boas was in, I
- 10:18think it was Flo ham in the fields out there, she wouldn't
- 10:22have met Boaz, and then we all know Ruth and Boaz.
- 10:27That's the, the lineage, you know, when Jesus was born,
- 10:30that's his family lineage. And so walk us through like a
- 10:34roadmap, like, say, somebody is wondering.
- 10:37What is my purpose? What's that navigation, that,
- 10:41you can give sure there are two things I want to say about that
- 10:44first. I was instructed to run, what's
- 10:48called a god? Odd experiment that there really
- 10:52isn't a wrong answer when it comes to stepping out because
- 10:55God will help course correct. You if perhaps you're going in a
- 10:59direction that may not necessarily be exactly his
- 11:03intended outcome, but the other thing I say is your purpose is
- 11:07usually something that's been with you all along.
- 11:10Now when I share it with you, that I've written a book before
- 11:12this one prior to that, I was the kid that was up at night on
- 11:17a typewriter. You know, when there was Your
- 11:19typewriters with the cartridges in the ribbon and the white out
- 11:22to correct the error, hey, with my mom's typewriter.
- 11:25And yes, I mean I remember I had one and I would type and create
- 11:30stories and write poems, and enter literary contest, and
- 11:35never one. I was selecting a degree in
- 11:38college that I would study or a career that I say, I want it to
- 11:43be a writer, but a writer was in me.
- 11:46And so, as a little girl, I love telling stories.
- 11:49These, I love everything associated with words with books
- 11:52with reading with writing. So my purpose was in me all
- 11:55along and so oftentimes you can recognize that there are Trends
- 12:01and topics that have been with you or people tap you on the
- 12:05shoulder because the thing that you do only the way you do, it
- 12:09is also tied to your purpose, and that could be that you're
- 12:12you're a master in the kitchen, you know, when it comes to, you
- 12:16know, whipping up a meal for Thanksgiving and you know, I
- 12:19don't want to cook, but I have a friend who I can hire to do some
- 12:22things for me, that's her gift. And so she could be purposed at
- 12:26being able to bring joy and relief to people who that's not
- 12:30necessarily their gifts. So I would say that, you know,
- 12:33your listeners could also consider, what is that thing?
- 12:36That you knew that you did well as a child or in your earlier
- 12:40years or that people would always tap you on the shoulder
- 12:44for because it's something that you were absolutely great at.
- 12:47You literally do it in your sleep and You never thought that
- 12:50it was tied to anything important?
- 12:53That's also a way of identifying your purpose.
- 12:56Those are just a couple of things that's good.
- 13:00I think a lot of people get purpose and calling kind of
- 13:03mixed up. Like I always think of my
- 13:06purpose, it always stays the same, it's praising God, it's
- 13:10glorifying him. Loving him with all my heart and
- 13:14soul and might, and then and then serving others.
- 13:17So it's like, what can I do? You through that.
- 13:21So what are your thoughts on that?
- 13:22Yeah, it's good. That you bring that up because
- 13:24that has actually been something that I've had conversations with
- 13:27other people about, you know, since I've written this book and
- 13:30honestly, I think there's a very close connection.
- 13:33I mean, obviously when it comes to purpose, yes we were designed
- 13:37with purpose on purpose and for a purpose.
- 13:40So our purpose to glorify God and to give him praise and honor
- 13:45with our lives is the primary reason we exist and and how we
- 13:51serve others can also be closely tied to our purpose.
- 13:55I don't really do much in the way of defining calling in my
- 13:58book. I really do believe that there
- 14:01is a close connection and I wouldn't for me, I wouldn't
- 14:05spend a whole lot of time trying to figure out the difference.
- 14:08You know, when it comes to making a step towards
- 14:12identifying, what is it that I need to say yes to.
- 14:17Yeah. Okay, tell us.
- 14:19How can somebody stay the path? When, you know, maybe they are
- 14:23walking in the purpose? Do you ever talk to you talk
- 14:26about that in your book of like just not giving up, not giving
- 14:30up, there's consistency. And then there's also just that
- 14:33commitment, you know, be committed to walking this out
- 14:39and carrying out the call that God has for you.
- 14:43I don't take the reader through a journey Beyond really
- 14:48understand. And embracing the purpose.
- 14:51But I actually started working on something for the next leg of
- 14:55the journey and that is showing up to serve.
- 14:58Because once you understand your purpose and you step out into
- 15:02it, you do have to be very intentional about, you know,
- 15:06showing up in the space where you're designed to be and
- 15:09serving in that capacity. But I would also say add some
- 15:14prayer to that, you know, really, really seek God and ask
- 15:17for direction on how you met. Five yourself in things that
- 15:21would serve him and serve others that would be purposeful for you
- 15:24and is there anything else you can share about your book and
- 15:28about purpose in general? I would say the other thing
- 15:32that's been very helpful for me and that I do highlight in the
- 15:35book is that celebrating the yes of others.
- 15:40You know is an encouragement as well.
- 15:42And I think when you understand that, you know, God did
- 15:47something through. You know, another woman who's
- 15:50doing something great that serving others, I think that can
- 15:53help give you some inspiration and a little bit of fuel leave
- 15:57in to help you be encouraged to continue your journey.
- 16:01So celebrating the yeses of others is certainly something
- 16:04that I would encourage your listeners to do.
- 16:08And then also, one of the other things with regards to staying
- 16:11consistent as being a part of a community, you know, when you
- 16:14know that you're serving others and you have other friends who
- 16:18are purposed and who really want to be intentional as well, you
- 16:22know, having the encouragement from another sister friend is
- 16:25also very helpful as well. Yeah, that's good.
- 16:29Okay, you talked about walking anger, Divine Design, expand on
- 16:34that, you know maybe somebody's like, what does that mean?
- 16:37Sure. And partly the lettering for
- 16:41purpose that I use in a 7-Day devotional on my website, really
- 16:45kind of take someone through that Journey.
- 16:48But understanding your Divine Design, really helps you to see
- 16:51that you were created by God. You were created uniquely by
- 16:56him. Him.
- 16:57And there are qualities that he's given you, that he's given
- 17:00nobody else. And so it's not even about a
- 17:03competition when it comes to how you show up to serve.
- 17:08It's really about just being able to be in the lane that's
- 17:11for you and to work it and to walk it out.
- 17:15And so for me that helps me to be able to be confident in the
- 17:21gift that God has put in me. And I don't have to dim my light
- 17:26or be a pilot. Eric about the light that's in
- 17:28me because I know that it was given to me for the unique
- 17:32purpose of glorifying him and serving others.
- 17:36And so my Divine Divine Design comes directly from God and so
- 17:40does yours something that I've done myself that, I would
- 17:44suggest that anyone who's looking to be intentional about
- 17:48their purpose is to, first of all, spend some time with God.
- 17:52And I suggest either devotional time or just some Bible study
- 17:58time around some of the keywords related to purpose and related
- 18:02to your unique identity. That would be a really good
- 18:05starting place. And for ladies who like to
- 18:07journal, you know, I really encourage journaling as well
- 18:10because that's a way for you to just really, you know, get out
- 18:13of your head and to get out of your heart.
- 18:16Some of the things that matter to you and just to help you feel
- 18:20as though you're in a lineman. In my book, I talk about
- 18:23alignment and being aligned with God's.
- 18:27Plan for you is really something that will help you also stay the
- 18:32course when you feel like you're in alignment and just like I was
- 18:35asking the question God, am I doing the right thing?
- 18:37My in the right place, you know for me it was that nagging
- 18:41feeling that I was not aligned with, you know what I could be
- 18:45and should be doing and so bringing yourself into alignment
- 18:50and not necessarily overthinking it but more or less submitting
- 18:56to it. Yeah.
- 18:57And I think about the story of Mary and how she was approached
- 19:01by the angel, you know, she contemplated the decision to
- 19:07say, yes, she had to consider, you know, yes.
- 19:10There might be some other people who may question this because
- 19:14of, you know, the cultural times that she was in and the
- 19:19situation, you know, for her to show up bearing a child when she
- 19:23was betrothed to Joseph, they were not yet married which means
- 19:27They were not, they had not consummated, the marriage.
- 19:30And so therefore, it would cause people to look at her strangely
- 19:34and so you contemplating you consider those things, but then
- 19:38you make a choice to give consent despite what others
- 19:42might say. Because this is your personal
- 19:44walk, and this is your personal journey.
- 19:46And, you know, I really have come to a place in my life and I
- 19:50would hope that, you know, maybe your listeners might be able to
- 19:53relate to this that, you know, my call is It is a personal
- 19:59reflection of my relationship with God and you know nobody
- 20:03else is in that meeting, but me and him.
- 20:05And so I don't need anyone elses permission really to do the
- 20:08thing that I'm called to do. I just need his sign off on this
- 20:12project or on this, this thing that he's calling me too.
- 20:16And so I would encourage your listeners to also, you know, get
- 20:19that alignment so that they understand that it's a direct
- 20:22reflection of their time with God, their understanding of
- 20:25their relationship with him and what he's Calling them to do.
- 20:29I mentioned Community? I think that's also very helpful
- 20:32because Community often provides you with opportunities even to
- 20:36exercise, you know, the gifts that are in you and those things
- 20:40that you really feel like you would like to step out on and
- 20:43track step out in and try as well.
- 20:45So those are just a few of the steps that I recommend, one of
- 20:49the ones that's high on my list. I will say, is the devotional
- 20:53and spending time journaling. And spending time with God,
- 20:57Yeah, whole lot so good and I love backing it up about, you
- 21:03know, it's just you and God in that meeting.
- 21:05And you know, when we're in that meeting with God, it's like his
- 21:09voice needs to be greater than any other voice and nobody else
- 21:14is in that meeting. I just love how you just pointed
- 21:17that out. That's so great and Community as
- 21:20well, you know, having those over opportunities presenting
- 21:23itself through your local church or in your community.
- 21:27Petit and being able to express your gifts and that way as well
- 21:32and using your purpose. All those are such good
- 21:35pointers. Okay.
- 21:37I love finishing off with a take away.
- 21:40Something that the listener can ponder on or take action in.
- 21:43What can you give us Daphne? Sure what I can offer is an
- 21:47invitation to take your own, personal Journey Through the
- 21:50subject of purpose. I've created a 7-Day purpose
- 21:53devotional and it utilizes the letters.
- 21:57SE for each day, just to offer some spiritual, scriptural and
- 22:03prayer time pondering the topic and just moving you, hopefully
- 22:09towards a better understanding and perhaps taking some action.
- 22:12So the invitation is to sign up for that devotional on my
- 22:15website. And that's the first item at the
- 22:18top of the page. It's at.
- 22:20She said, yes, that live. Thanks for coming on here and
- 22:23sharing your wisdom on purpose. All the blessings to To you and
- 22:28your book being sent out to all four corners of the earth?
- 22:32I know Jesus is, he's bringing that out to the women and, and
- 22:36men out there that need to hear your message on purpose.
- 22:40So, thank you for your yes and your obedience.
- 22:45Thank you so much for listening today and I trust that God has
- 22:49encouraged you through this story.
