- 0:03SPEAKER_00: What's going on?
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Buddy Trailer Review, this unicorn is nightmare fuel.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, it's Gilbert K here.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to my channel.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: What if Barney stopped teaching children how to share and started punishing them when they refused?
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Suddenly, that purple dinosaur doesn't look so scary.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Today we're talking about Buddy, the new horror comedy directed by Caspar Kelly.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: And after watching this trailer, I have one very important question.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Who looked at a giant orange unicorn and said, you know what?
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: This needs childhood trauma.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Because Buddy takes the bright and happy word of a 1990s children's show and turns it into colorful prison where smiling may not be optional.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: And let me tell you something.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: This trailer is strange, funny, creepy, and completely out of control.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: In other words, Buddy has arrived.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: But this is is this movie a clever new horror experience, or is it simply Barney with anger management issues?
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about it.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Now let's enter Buddy's clubhouse.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Hopefully we can find the exit.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Welcome to It's Buddy.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: The trailer introduces us to It's Buddy, a cheerful children's TV show hosted by Buddy, a giant orange unicorn voiced by Keegan Michael Key.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Buddy sings, Buddy dances, Buddy teaches life lessons, Buddy wants everyone to be happy.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And Buddy looks like someone left Barney, a box of crayons, and a horror movie alone in the same room.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: At first, everything feels warm and familiar.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: We have colorful sets, smiling children, silly characters, songs, and the kind of over-the-top happiness that filled children's TV during the 1990s.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: But then one child refuses to play along.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And Buddy does not take rejection very well.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: The smile stays on his face, but the mood changes.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: The colorful world begins to crack.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: The children realize they may not be making a TV show at all.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: They may be trapped inside one, and once that idea lands, the entire trailer becomes much more disturbing.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Because Buddy does not simply want the children to have fun.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: He wants control.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: The scariest thing is Buddy's smile.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: The smartest choice in this trailer is that Buddy does not immediately behave like a traditional movie monster.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: He does not jump out of darkness wearing a mask.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: He does not chase people with a chainsaw.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: At least not at first.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: He smiles, and somehow that may be worse.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Buddy speaks with a friendly voice.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: He acts like everything is wonderful.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And even when something clearly feels wrong, his smile becomes a warning sign.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: It's like being trapped at a birthday party where the hold refuses to let anyone go home.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Are we having fun?
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: No, buddy.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: No, really.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Are we having fun?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, buddy.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: We're having fun.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: We're having the greatest day of our lives.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Please move away from the door.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: That mix of happiness and danger is what makes the trailer work.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: But his cheerful personality doesn't disappear when the horror begins.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: The cheerfulness becomes part of the horror.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: And Keegan Michael Key feels like inspired casting.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: He has the energy and comic timing to make Body entertaining.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: But his voice can also carry that small hint of danger.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: He can believe children would trust this character.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: You can also believe that trusting him would be a terrible idea.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Childhood nostalgia gets corrupted.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: The trailer clearly plays with memories of shows like Barney and Friends, Blues Clues, and Pee-Wee's Playhouse.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: These were worlds where the colors were bright, the adults were friendly, and every problem could be fixed with a song.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: In Body, the songs may be part of the problem.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Casper Kelly understands that childhood TV can feel a little bit strange when you watch it as adults.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: The large costumes, frozen smiles, fake trees, painted walls, and people staring directly into the camera can suddenly become unsettling.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: As children, we accepted those worlds.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: As adults, we start questions.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Why is that giant animal smiling all the time?
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Where are these children's parents?
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Why does nobody ever leave?
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: And why is the door locked?
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: The trader takes those questions and builds a horror story around them.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: This is not just nostalgia, it's nostalgia with teeth.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Casper Kelly was made for this movie.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: If Caspar Kelly's name sounds familiar, he created Too Many Cooks, the Adult Swim Short that starts like an old TV opening and slowly turns into total madness.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: He also worked on Young Pretty Faces Going to Hell and created Adult Swim Yule Log.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: His work often begins with something familiar, let us feel comfortable, and then pulls the floor out from under us.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: So Buddy feels like the perfect movie for him.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: This is also Kelly's featured actorial debut.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: He co-wrote the screenplay with Jamie King, and this movie premiered at the midnight section of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival before Roadside Attractions and Seban Films acquired it for a theatrical release.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Deadline reported the acquisition after its Sundance debut.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: That midnight section is important because those screenings are usually built for bold, strange, and sometimes completely unhinged movies.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Buddy appears ready to earn all three badges.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: The trader knows when to hide things.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Another thing I like is that the trailer does not explain every strange image.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: We see children trying to understand their world, we see parts of the colorful TV set beginning to feel dangerous.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: We feel bizarre characters, including a talking backpack and other figures who look like they escaped from frozen VHS tape.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: We get quick looks at Kristen Milliotti, Topher Grease, Michael Shannon, and Patton Oswald.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: But the trailer doesn't stop to give us everyone's full life story.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Modern trailers sometimes show us the setup, the middle, the twist, the final battle, and possibly where the characters go for dinner after the movie ends.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: This trailer gives us the idea and the feeling.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: It tells us that a group of children is trapped inside Buddy's TV world.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Something has gone very wrong, and escaping will not be easy.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: The official synopsis says the cracks begin to appear after one child refuses to participate in Buddy's Happy Little World.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Roadside Attractions also confirms the main cast, including Kristen Minotti, Delaney, Quinn, Patton Oswald, Michael Shannon, Topher, Grace, and Keegan, Michael Key.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: That's enough.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: I want the movie to surprise me.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And based on Caspar Kelly's previous work, I suspect the biggest surprises are nowhere near this trailer.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Is it horror, comedy, or both?
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: The big challenge will be the tone.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: A movie like this can easily become a one-joke idea.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: What if a children's mascot was evil?
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: We understand that joke in about 10 seconds.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: If each or film needs more, the good news is that the trailer suggests Buddy may have something deeper beneath all the weird costumes and bright colors.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: This word seems to be built around forced happiness, but he decides what fun looks like.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Everyone must follow the game.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: If somebody questions the rules, the friendly mask begins to fall.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: That gives the movie an interesting idea to explore.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: What happens when a trusted figure cannot be questioned?
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: What happens when a happiness becomes an order?
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: And what happens when children's show refuses to end?
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Those ideas could give Body more weight than a typical killer mascot movie.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Early reviews have also treated it as more than a simple parody.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Indiewire praised it as a major midnight movie, while Variety described its connection to familiar children's TV.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: That doesn't guarantee everyone will love it, but it suggests the movie has more going on and its wild premise.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about the cast.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Kristen Miliotti is a fantastic choice for this kind of story.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: She can be funny, emotional, and intense without making it any feel forced.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: After the penguin, audiences already know how powerful she can be when a story gets dark.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Though for Grace also fits the strange world because he can play a normal, likable person while making us wonder if something is slightly off.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Then we have Patton Oswald voicing a talking backpack because apparently backpacks can no longer be trusted either.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Michael Shannon is also involved, and putting Michael Shannon anywhere in your Twisted Children's Show feels dangerous in the best way possible.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: The man can make ordering breakfast sound like the beginning of the apocalypse.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: And this is a surprisingly strong cast for such a strange idea.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: The cast makes me believe the movie is not treating its madness like a cheap joke.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Everyone seems committed to making this bizarre world feel real.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: What could go wrong?
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: My only concern is whether the movie can maintain this energy for its full runtime.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: The trailer is fast, unpredictable, and packed with disturbing images.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: That works perfectly for two minutes.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: But over an entire movie, weirdness alone is not enough.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: We need to care about the children.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: We need clear stakes.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: We need the mystery to build, and we need Buddy to become more than internet meme wearing a unicor costume.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: If the movie depends too heavily on random shocks, it could become exhausting.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: There's only so much screaming, singing, and colorful chaos an audience can be taken before the nightmare starts feeling like a very long children's birthday party.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: The emotional story will make the difference.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: If Casper Kelly gives us characters we truly want to escape with, Buddy could become one of the most memorable movies of 2026.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: If not, it may remain a fantastic thriller attached to a stretched-out idea.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Fun facts.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Second, Buddy has its word premiere in Sundance Midnight Section.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: That's probably the perfect place to introduce a bloodthirsty orange unicorn to the world.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Third, Keegan Michael Key provides Buddy's voice, while the cast also includes Kristen Milotti, Tolfer Grace, Michael Shannon, Patton Oswald, and young actor Delaney Quinn.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: Fourth, the movie was filmed in Northeast Ohio.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: So if anyone in Ohio recently saw a giant orange unicorn walking around, do not worry.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Actually, worry a little.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: And finally, the filmmakers didn't simply make Buddy dark and ugly.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: They kept him colorful, friendly, and built for children.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: That makes him much scarier.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: A monster who looks like a monster gives you a warning.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Buddy gives you a song.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: My final trailer verdict, Buddy trailer, gets a big thumbs up from me.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: It has a clear idea, strong visual style, a talented cast, and a director who knows how to turn familiar TV into something deeply uncomfortable.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: The trailer is funny without killing the tension.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: It's creepy without depending entirely on jump scares.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: And most importantly, it made me curious.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: I want to know what this word is.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: I want to know why these children are trapped inside it.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: And I want to know what happens when Buddy finally stops smiling.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: This movie will not be for everyone.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Some viewers may find it too strange.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Others may expect a simple slasher and get something much more surreal.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: But I would rather watch a film take a big weird swing than give me another safe horror movie that I forget before I reach the parking lot.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Buddy looks like Barney, five nights at Freddy's and a broken VHS tape, had a meeting at 3 in the morning, and nobody survived.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: So yes, I'm interested, I'm disturbed, and I will never trust an orange unicorn again.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: But now I want to hear from you.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: Did the Buddy trailer make you laugh, scare you, or completely confuse you?
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Do you think Buddy could become a new horror icon or this is colorful nightmare trying a little too hard?
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: Let me know in the comments below.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: And here's the big question for you.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: If you were trapped inside a children't TV show, which character would scare you the most?
