- 0:33been just tossing and turning every
- 0:35freaking night. And I don't know what it
- 0:38is. I just I can't get a restful night's
- 0:42sleep lately. I I don't know. But I'm up
- 0:44tonight, so I'm like, you know what? Let
- 0:46me come on the stream. Let me talk to
- 0:47people. Let's have a little fun. Let's
- 0:49talk collectibles. Let's talk whatever
- 0:50you want. I don't even care. There's a
- 0:52couple of topics I'm definitely going to
- 0:53bring up, but other than that, the floor
- 0:56is open to you guys. And as always, I'm
- 0:59uh, you know, allowing anyone who wants
- 1:01to come on and just talk with me

- 1:09more than welcome. So, welcome aboard to
- 1:11everybody. Again, we're just getting
- 1:12started here tonight. Let me say hello
- 1:14to a few people. First and foremost, we
- 1:17have my boy Huratan. What is going on on
- 1:19my friend? He's like, "Let's get this
- 1:21puppy off the ground because it was
- 1:238:20. I had not hit that go live button
- 1:26yet." So, thank you for being here, bud.
- 1:28Kingdom Comics, what is up? Yo yo,
- 1:30welcome to the stream. JSS Brooklyn, one
- 1:33of my moderators. Happy Friday night,
- 1:35all reminder, hit that like button, be
- 1:37responsible, and most importantly, let's
- 1:40have some fun. Of course, we're live on
- 1:42YouTube, but like always, I am trying
- 1:44something new. We're going live on
- 1:46Instagram as well. So, hello to
- 1:49everybody out there on the IG live
- 1:51platform. Guess what? We're streaming to
- 1:54both platforms tonight. We're doing more
- 1:57advanced work with this. So, I'm
- 1:58hopefully you're going to see more
- 2:00things coming your way regarding Mighty
- 2:02Comics and Collectibles and the podcast,
- 2:04of course. Hello to my buddy Dario. What
- 2:07is going on? I haven't seen you jumped
- 2:09on a live stream in a long time, my man.
- 2:11Good to see you. How was your King Kong?
- 2:15I know I saw you there, but uh you know,
- 2:17did you have fun? I don't think you got
- 2:18you bought anything, but you you
- 2:20refreshed my memory. Did you end up
- 2:21picking up anything? Let me know. But
- 2:22let's start the chat off tonight asking
- 2:24a question. Did anybody buy anything
- 2:27lately? Anybody at all? I want to hear
- 2:31from you. Uh we have a question from
- 2:33Instagram already. I'm going to answer
- 2:35you, Dukes. But I have a freaking guest
- 2:37already in the background. Holy crap. A
- 2:40first timer to YouTube. I'm bringing you
- 2:42on in a second, but hang on. But I want
- 2:44to answer this question first. Dukes T
- 2:48angry says, "What do you suggest a
- 2:50collector do when they have hit a patch
- 2:52of the road where nothing is available
- 2:54from what they collect?" That is a great
- 2:57freaking question. As you guys can see,
- 2:59I have the chat going on the screen here
- 3:01tonight as long as I have am by myself
- 3:03and I'm not going to be by myself for
- 3:05too much longer. But that's a great
- 3:07question. I suggest that if you are into
- 3:09other things like I am, you see so many
- 3:11things behind me. I have so many
- 3:13passions and it's really just nostalgia
- 3:15of things I grew up with between comics,
- 3:17you know, comic statues, other statues,
- 3:19toys, cards, you know, anything vintage
- 3:23video games, arcades that I grew up
- 3:25with, I started moving along to those
- 3:27things. So, when I had all my comics
- 3:28that I wanted to keep in my collection
- 3:30and I've gotten rid of a few things here
- 3:32or there, I started to move on to other
- 3:33passions that I had growing up as a kid
- 3:35and I still have affinity for here
- 3:37today. So, great question, Chef. What is
- 3:40going on, my friend? I see you on
- 3:42Instagram. What is going on?
- 3:46It does suck, but what are you going to
- 3:47do? Let me bring in my guest who's
- 3:49backstage and I can't believe he showed
- 3:51up. You've been talking about this for a
- 3:52while.
- 3:54>> Dario, can you hear me, buddy?
- 3:55>> Yeah. Yeah. Can you hear me?
- 3:57>> Yeah, man.
- 3:58>> How you doing? Good. Long time no see.
- 4:02Thanks for popping on, man.
- 4:03>> You, too. I think I hopped on like a
- 4:05couple of years ago.
- 4:07>> Did you really? I don't remember that
- 4:08one.
- 4:08>> Maybe for like a heartbeat.
- 4:11Yeah.
- 4:11>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:13>> What's going on? How are you?
- 4:14>> Good. Good. I didn't know you were I saw
- 4:16your thing where you were like I haven't
- 4:17slept in two weeks. I thought that was
- 4:18like a like a joke.
- 4:20>> No, man. I I I don't know what it is
- 4:22this past week. I have been just tossing
- 4:24and turning all night. And I don't know
- 4:26if it's because of the weather cuz, you
- 4:27know, we're both of us are in New
- 4:28Jersey, so like the weather uh last week
- 4:31was ridiculous. It was like 80 degrees
- 4:33one week and now all of a sudden it's 40
- 4:35degrees again. So, I don't know what it
- 4:36is, but it got really hot really quick.
- 4:39And that probably, you know, didn't
- 4:41help. And then it got cooled off real
- 4:43quick. So I think for me, my body the
- 4:45way I am, it's like if I miss like two
- 4:47or three days of like really good sleep,
- 4:49all of a sudden I have trouble like
- 4:50getting back in that rhythm,
- 4:52>> right? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, look, you
- 4:54know, for me, I have horrible allergies
- 4:56and like I'm I'm like a barometer. Like
- 4:58two days ahead, like I had a crazy
- 5:01sneezing attack. My wife's like, "What's
- 5:03your problem? Like will you stop?" And
- 5:05then two days later we had like that
- 5:06crazy rainstorm
- 5:08>> and like you wouldn't know it and then
- 5:10and I was like there you go you know so
- 5:12it's whatever the pressure
- 5:14>> you know kind of hits [snorts] and um
- 5:16whatever. No but it I'll talk to you
- 5:18offline. I mean you know that sucks to
- 5:20not sleep. I mean I'm sleeping too much
- 5:22>> you know.
- 5:23>> Yeah I mean I mean coffee and then crash
- 5:25at 10 o'clock. [laughter]
- 5:28>> So for anybody who and I'll catch up in
- 5:30the chat in a minute. For anybody who
- 5:31doesn't know Doro is a good friend of
- 5:32mine. We met via comics and he lives
- 5:36maybe about 10 15 minutes from me. Um I
- 5:38haven't seen him in a while. I just saw
- 5:39him at King Kong this past week and I
- 5:41reminded him that King Kong was coming
- 5:43and to make sure if he had time to get
- 5:46>> to get out there. Yeah, because it's
- 5:48it's always a good show. So I asked the
- 5:50question before, did you pick up
- 5:52anything when you were there?
- 5:53>> No, I didn't. I I mean I reached out to
- 5:57that guy Dominator about Marvel one
- 6:00Marvel comics number one and I you know
- 6:02I just as a joke I said would you do
- 6:04layaway and he go and he said yeah 20%
- 6:06down non-refundable so uh and then I
- 6:09wrote back like gave him the thumbs up
- 6:11afterwards so no but he had I mean he
- 6:13had a a ton of other books there he had
- 6:15the um
- 6:17>> the uh I always forget the name of it
- 6:19the the red skull this with the Captain
- 6:21America
- 6:22>> on it and he said that that was like 16k
- 6:24and I was like that's more you know
- 6:26that's kind of more in my range but
- 6:28still something that you know is is out
- 6:30of my range but um you know to to own
- 6:33kind of books like that you know is uh
- 6:36is kind of incredible and just to sell
- 6:37it I mean it is interesting for me
- 6:39because I've been doing this for so long
- 6:41well for a couple of years you know and
- 6:43picked up again since I was a kid is
- 6:47like I look at it as with
- 6:48[clears throat] with like almost like a
- 6:50museum type thing you know how you walk
- 6:52around and like I've been to Cooper Town
- 6:54and you look at, you know, the uniforms
- 6:55and the bats and the balls and and the
- 6:57card, you know, they they have a a
- 6:59selection of baseball cards as you leave
- 7:01the stad as you leave the um museum and
- 7:04as a kid you're just like, "Oh my god.
- 7:06Oh my god." And then, you know, for
- 7:07these people just put it up on a wall
- 7:09like it's, you know, like, you know,
- 7:11which what do you want? You know, Marvel
- 7:13comics, right? Make me an offer,
- 7:15[laughter]
- 7:16you know, like uh would you do, you
- 7:18know, 90,000, [laughter] you know, that
- 7:20kind of thing. But uh you know I just
- 7:23it's interesting you know because I
- 7:24watch your your videos a lot and I you
- 7:26know I and I do watch a couple of other
- 7:28guys that have been coming up on my feed
- 7:30lately and you know it's usually the
- 7:32same round of three or four four guys
- 7:33I'm bad with with the names. Absolute
- 7:36Comics um is one of the guys that I that
- 7:39I watch often and it's just it's just
- 7:41interesting because
- 7:43you know they interviewed uh very Gary
- 7:48at the show and somebody said how is the
- 7:50industry doing and he's like we're still
- 7:53selling you know we're still selling a
- 7:55lot of books but again I you know I
- 7:57think based on the conversation we had
- 7:58as a sidebar it all depends on what you
- 8:00get when you got in right because if
- 8:03you're buying collection now, right?
- 8:06You're still selling them at a premium.
- 8:08But if you're holding on to inventory,
- 8:10say you bought maybe three or four years
- 8:11ago, right? You're you're kind of like,
- 8:14"All right, do I still hold this and
- 8:15hope the market comes back or do I just
- 8:18cut my losses,
- 8:19>> you know?" Yeah. And and I guess it's
- 8:21kind of similar to other businesses as
- 8:23well in terms of, you know, do I want to
- 8:25just let it sit on the shelf and
- 8:26hopefully someday somebody's going to
- 8:27scoop that up,
- 8:28>> right? Or do I just put something up,
- 8:30you know, that that's going to move
- 8:31really quickly,
- 8:33>> you know? It's yeah
- 8:34>> everybody I I think a lot of us
- 8:36especially you know that have been
- 8:38around a long time and we've been
- 8:40collecting comics for a long time you
- 8:41know with the boom or right after the
- 8:43boom like
- 8:44>> it's it's just I'll say this is like
- 8:47every people think that comics are going
- 8:49to go away and that selling is going to
- 8:50go away. It's never going to happen
- 8:52folks. There's always going to be people
- 8:53who have that nostalgia who enjoy the
- 8:54medium. Um new books are a different
- 8:56story but right now new books are like
- 8:58the hottest thing out there. So, like
- 9:01sellers are still selling from what I
- 9:02hear. They're doing okay. If you have
- 9:04good inventory, I'll always think you'll
- 9:06move it. That's just my philosophy. If I
- 9:08look at a wall or I look through boxes
- 9:10and there's heat in there, and it
- 9:11doesn't have to be expensive heat. It
- 9:13could be cheap heat. You got you guys
- 9:14saw me go through boxes and I'm picking
- 9:16up, you know,5 to $20 books out of bins.
- 9:19So, that that are still, in my opinion,
- 9:21like nice keys to have. So, it's it's
- 9:23all in, you know, it's all relative, as
- 9:25they say.
- 9:26>> Sure. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, you know, I I
- 9:27was talking to Gerard and um Yael from
- 9:30Zenotramm and you know, he had Silver
- 9:33Age and he had a whole thing of absolute
- 9:35Batman's up on the wall and you know
- 9:38just I mean I think you know just like
- 9:40you and I you could scan a wall within 3
- 9:41seconds and see if you know something
- 9:44catches your eye. And I was like oh
- 9:45how's how the Batman selling? He's like
- 9:47he goes we're just they're flying off
- 9:49the wall. He goes I'll they'll sell and
- 9:51I just go underneath and put more up
- 9:53there. So, I think it's really cool that
- 9:56there is more buzz in the industry now.
- 9:58I mean, look, just there's no such thing
- 10:00as bad publicity, but I think the fact
- 10:03that a lot of huge books have sold
- 10:06lately and it's beyond just, you know,
- 10:09with, you know, the little core of the
- 10:11industry. It's on mainstream. Golden
- 10:13has, you know, they're hyping things up,
- 10:15you know, even though it's for them,
- 10:16they're still hyping things up for
- 10:18comics in general. And then I just
- 10:20watched the um the documentary Selling
- 10:22Superman.
- 10:24>> Oh yeah.
- 10:24>> Mix. And did you see it? Did you watch
- 10:26it?
- 10:27>> I watched it like when it first came
- 10:28out. I I didn't think it was that great.
- 10:30I thought it was going to be more like a
- 10:31film. It wasn't. It was like broke it up
- 10:33into into like four little pieces, which
- 10:35I really wasn't like a fan of that. I
- 10:38wish they would have done like an actual
- 10:39documentary film. It would have been
- 10:41better. But it was okay.
- 10:42>> Yeah. No, I but I for me just the the
- 10:46fact that somebody had that collection
- 10:50speaks to, you know, like you like when
- 10:52I look back at something like um Hulk
- 10:55181, right? It came out 172,
- 10:58>> right? I'm thinking,
- 11:00>> okay, now that's 50some years old.
- 11:02>> I think it might be 70. It might be 73.
- 11:05I don't know, guys. Somebody let me know
- 11:06if it's 72 or 73 came out. Okay.
- 11:08>> And um but again, you think back and
- 11:11you're like, "Oh, I wish you know my dad
- 11:14collected." Right? Because that's the
- 11:15only way you would have gotten an an
- 11:17original copy, you know? And then these
- 11:19these collections that come back from
- 11:20the golden era, too. It's like there was
- 11:23that other U Superman that was found,
- 11:26the 9.0.
- 11:27>> Yeah,
- 11:27>> that was uh Sorry. No, there was like I
- 11:29think 9.0,
- 11:31>> right? The se Yeah, I know. Well, the
- 11:337.0 whatever the one with the the their
- 11:36mom said that she's like, I have a I
- 11:38have a collection in my attic that like
- 11:41a very very valuable book comics. And
- 11:46then it was weird like it
- 11:47[clears throat] never kind of came to
- 11:48light until after she passed. And then
- 11:50she had I don't know how many she had,
- 11:52but she had the Superman number one
- 11:54there I think in a crate. And it was one
- 11:57of these things that hadn't hadn't been
- 11:58touched probably in 70 years. And that's
- 12:01I mean that's the only way that these
- 12:02things can uh you know can preserve that
- 12:04much because [snorts] I mean you know
- 12:06the deal it's like the other day
- 12:08remember I was talking about pulp. I
- 12:09mean, the quality of the pages and, you
- 12:12know, have everything brown so easily
- 12:14that the only way to get like white or
- 12:17off-white pages is to have literally all
- 12:19your books stacked and in somewhere
- 12:21that's literally airtight.
- 12:24>> Yeah.
- 12:25>> So,
- 12:25>> so, so before we go any further, I want
- 12:28to um just mention I got a super chat.
- 12:30So, he have a question. Heran, what's
- 12:32going on, my friend? He says, "Hey,
- 12:33Lawrence, longtime listener, first time
- 12:35caller." That's that goes out to like
- 12:37New York guys. If you guys know that,
- 12:39you know it. I recently picked up a TN
- 12:41TMNT1 first print in a lowgrade Eastman
- 12:44Eastman sign with a remark in a 65.
- 12:47Congrats. I I remember you mentioning
- 12:49that to me. So for people out there who
- 12:50don't know TMNT1, you all know that
- 12:53there was only 3,000 printed, but do you
- 12:55know if you go look at the CGC census,
- 12:58>> the lowgrade numbers outweigh the higher
- 13:01grade numbers on the census? So it it it
- 13:03goes to say the lower grades or the
- 13:05mid-grades have less available than the
- 13:08higher grade ones right now, which I
- 13:09which I thought was wild. So I actually
- 13:11looked into buying a one in a lower
- 13:13grade. At one point I was looking like a
- 13:1440 or four or five because it just there
- 13:16was like two or three on the census,
- 13:18whatever it was, and I was just like
- 13:20shocked by it.
- 13:24>> Well, you know, the qual the I think the
- 13:26page quality of those books were were a
- 13:29little better than a regular book,
- 13:30weren't they, at the time?
- 13:32>> [clears throat]
- 13:33>> You know, I have no idea. We're going
- 13:34back to 1984, so still 84 with the old
- 13:37the old pages, but I don't know. You
- 13:39know, I've never actually opened a TMNT1
- 13:41to look inside what the page is like.
- 13:42So, someone who has, let me know. But
- 13:44I'm sure if you have a a first print,
- 13:46you're not, you know, it's probably
- 13:47slabbed at this point, I would think,
- 13:48for most people.
- 13:49>> Because I I remember going to my local
- 13:51shop in Manhattan and um I I think I
- 13:56bought like the one with the Triceratops
- 13:58on the cover. I don't know if it was
- 14:00like TMNT issue 16 or something like
- 14:03that and you know I bought like Flaming
- 14:06Carrot like I bought one of those issues
- 14:08that was like they had like literally in
- 14:10the bottom row a bunch of indies and
- 14:12just just for the hell of it I was like
- 14:14you know what let me pick up one or two
- 14:15of these because you never know what's
- 14:16going to happen and then the Turtles
- 14:18thing was even huge at that point in
- 14:21time and I I mean I literally picked
- 14:22that up right off the the shelf there
- 14:24and I had it and then you know
- 14:26eventually got stolen. That's another
- 14:28That's for another That's That's another
- 14:30>> Yeah. I had [laughter]
- 14:33I had a bunch of I had all my books in
- 14:36bags and boards, but I had them in shoe
- 14:37boxes instead of like um short boxes and
- 14:42somebody like was working on the house
- 14:44or whatever. And um I didn't notice it
- 14:47because I had a bunch of shoe boxes. And
- 14:49then later on I'm like, I don't get it.
- 14:51Like where the hell's this shoe box? I
- 14:53went back in my attic and this and that
- 14:55and I had a stack of like, you know,
- 14:57maybe 25 30 books in that shoe box and I
- 15:00and I I distinctly remember what I'm
- 15:03missing. I had Star Wars 1 2 3 and four.
- 15:06I had that I had the um the first
- 15:08Carnage Spider-Man. I didn't have it,
- 15:10you know, thankfully like every single
- 15:12thing sort of kind of in order, but I
- 15:14had I had that book in there and I had a
- 15:16few other kind of early books there. I
- 15:18had some early Spideies like the first
- 15:20black cat, things like that where I'm
- 15:22just like I can't believe, you know,
- 15:24like somebody walked out with one of my
- 15:26shoe boxes. But yeah, you know, live you
- 15:29live and you learn.
- 15:30>> Yeah. Al, so before I want to give
- 15:32people like a a little bit of an inkling
- 15:34into who you are because I met you years
- 15:35ago and what you what you collect while
- 15:36I have you here, but let me just catch
- 15:38let me just catch up on the chat a
- 15:39little bit. So Kingdom Comics says not
- 15:42on the subject, but his daughter was
- 15:44like, "Hey dad, you might want to play
- 15:45Red Dead Redemption 2." She said, "This
- 15:47might be something you would like, and I
- 15:49haven't put it down since." I I remember
- 15:50playing Redemption. I haven't I don't
- 15:52think I played two, but it definitely is
- 15:54an addictive game until you're done with
- 15:55it. Then it's like it's hard to go back
- 15:57and play it again. But um
- 16:00uh JSS says, "I have to say these past
- 16:02two weeks were the most interesting new
- 16:04comic book days in decades for me
- 16:06personally, and I don't collect modern
- 16:08books." So JSS, what did you pick up?
- 16:10Let us know. Um, so I have to ask this
- 16:12person here, the immortal Biggy Chic and
- 16:15then the immortal Sticky Shack. Are you
- 16:18the same person? Because obviously
- 16:20you're trolling Sticky Goose cuz I see
- 16:22your
- 16:23>> your thumb your your thing [snorts]
- 16:25there is a picture of him and then the
- 16:27other one is the Chic. So I have a
- 16:29feeling this is someone in the community
- 16:31uh probably having a good time here. So
- 16:34we'll stay away from those comments. Uh,
- 16:37Tikker, Tikker 2, if you price something
- 16:38below market price, it will always sell.
- 16:41And I think that's where we are seeing
- 16:42right now most being picked up by others
- 16:45dealers. I've heard that as well that
- 16:47that if you go to a show, it's a lot of
- 16:49people basically buying that are dealers
- 16:53and then trying to resell themselves.
- 16:54I've definitely heard that. But if you
- 16:56went to King Kong, it was for the most
- 16:58part it was all collectors, right? There
- 16:59were dealers set up, but I didn't
- 17:01recognize many dealers from the area
- 17:03that weren't there,
- 17:04>> you know, that [snorts] weren't wasn't
- 17:06set up,
- 17:06>> right? Yeah. I saw Kyle's comics there.
- 17:10>> Yeah, he was there,
- 17:11>> but he wasn't selling. Right.
- 17:14>> Um, which I know he's done in the past.
- 17:16He's sold there in the past, but I
- 17:17didn't go last year because I don't know
- 17:18if he set up last year or not, but uh,
- 17:20so tell everybody like I know you, but
- 17:23how did you get into comics and what do
- 17:25you what did you collect?
- 17:26>> Yes. So, you know, I grew up in the
- 17:28Bronx and funny story, um, Pelen
- 17:31Parkway, Mars Park area and I don't know
- 17:34like late 70s778
- 17:37or nishish. Um,
- 17:40my friend my friend got me into it and
- 17:44uh, there was a local there was a local
- 17:46like coin guy
- 17:50on Leic Avenue and he had his own
- 17:53collection of comics. So he [snorts]
- 17:56had, you know, those glass sliding
- 17:58doors, you know, that kind of open like
- 17:59that. And he had the stacks of all the
- 18:02books there. So he had like X-Men,
- 18:04Avengers, Fantastic Fours. Boom, boom,
- 18:06boom. And then he had them all hanging
- 18:08on the wall. And everything was in bags.
- 18:09There was no boards at the time. And um
- 18:12when his nickname was ripoff, so
- 18:15[laughter]
- 18:17we're always like, "Oh, you know, [ __ ]
- 18:19I got $2. Let's go to ripoffs." you
- 18:21know, so we'd go there and then he would
- 18:23flip through, you know, and you'd be
- 18:25like, "All right, that one. All right,
- 18:26great. That's, you know, that's a buck
- 18:28or something like that, you know." But
- 18:30again, think about the time, you know,
- 18:32he I remember he had Tales of Suspense
- 18:3439. He had the first vision. He had
- 18:37Silver Surfer number one on the wall. I
- 18:39mean, he like he had all these great
- 18:41books. That's why for me it was like,
- 18:43you know, when you see it in your hand
- 18:44and then you remember just vividly as a
- 18:46kid looking at these books on the wall
- 18:48and then he had boxes of them where you
- 18:50know like he had them written in pencil
- 18:51like 25 cents 35 cents you know that
- 18:53kind of thing. I mean, I I I didn't have
- 18:55any money back then, a couple of bucks
- 18:57in my pocket and um so I just started
- 19:00like, you know, buying books that way
- 19:03and um you know, whatever came out like
- 19:06local shops or something like I really
- 19:08started buying when it was like around
- 19:1030 cent issues. Um you know, I remember
- 19:12when the first like Frank Miller Dare
- 19:15Daredevils came out on the shelf and
- 19:16things like that, you know. So, but I
- 19:18was always like Fantastic 4, just
- 19:20immediately drawn to that there. I mean,
- 19:23honestly, when I was a kid at the time,
- 19:25um, Fantastic 4 Amazing Spider-Man was
- 19:28always number one, like no matter what.
- 19:30>> Uh, DC's I I wasn't really as drawn to
- 19:33DC. And I know you're going to laugh
- 19:34because of, you know, now like looking
- 19:36back at the 70s and some of the great
- 19:38artists that, you know, was in Detective
- 19:39Comics and Batman, but like, you know, I
- 19:42just I as much as I love the Super
- 19:44Friends, the cartoon, I was always drawn
- 19:47to more the just kind of the stylistic
- 19:49view. Fantastic 4 for me was like
- 19:52negative zone, things like that. I loved
- 19:54things about space. So that was, you
- 19:56know, that kind of was like my my genre,
- 19:58you know, the whole Star Wars, Star Trek
- 19:59thing. So, um, yeah. So, I just started
- 20:02buying some stuff. I I never had a ton
- 20:04of books. I'd say by the time I stopped
- 20:06collecting around 90 91ish, I had about
- 20:10500 books. And but, you know, there were
- 20:13local stores up in Central Avenue and
- 20:15Yoners. And then, you know, when I
- 20:18started working in Manhattan again, I'd
- 20:19go to Midtown Comics, [snorts] you know,
- 20:21so walking to the Port Authority, I'd go
- 20:23there and I'd pick up some books, I
- 20:25don't know, maybe around 2005, six,
- 20:27sevenish time. And then I started
- 20:29getting into um X-Force,
- 20:32that whole that whole series there, just
- 20:34like completely drawn again because it
- 20:36was futuristic, you know, Deadpool and
- 20:39the future and cable and this and that,
- 20:41you [snorts] know. But then I stopped
- 20:42collecting for years, you know, just
- 20:44because I had kids and I had no money,
- 20:46right? And then as soon as COVID came,
- 20:48March 2020, I got a new I literally
- 20:51started at Macy's in corporate and uh I
- 20:55was home and I just was like, you know
- 20:57what? Let me go to Heritage Auctions and
- 21:01I was like, oh wow, Spider-Man number
- 21:03one, what? And then I put a bid in. I
- 21:05was the only one that won it. So,
- 21:08literally the first book that I won
- 21:10getting back into the um game was
- 21:14Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man.
- 21:15>> So, so let me ask you a question. Now, I
- 21:17I know you. So, I know you're a big FF
- 21:19collector. So, you went from Spider-Man
- 21:20one to to doing FF. And when I say he
- 21:22does FF, he's got like multiple copies
- 21:25of like
- 21:26>> all if if not most of the FF books,
- 21:29silver age stuff. [snorts]
- 21:31>> Yeah. So, yeah. Yeah, it just that was
- 21:35you know what it was Lawrence at the
- 21:36time
- 21:38it was like in March of 2020 it was
- 21:42almost like a rebirth kind of thing
- 21:45where it was I didn't really kind of say
- 21:47I'm only going to collect FFS uh because
- 21:49I I still had my collection I think I
- 21:51had from issue 135 to like
- 21:56340
- 21:57>> right so I'd say more than half of my
- 21:59books were Fantastic Force because I had
- 22:01a subscription to them a for you know
- 22:04for a couple of years you know so I have
- 22:06new like I have newstand copies of books
- 22:08from like you know 240 to the early 300s
- 22:11and uh when I got back into it again
- 22:13again it was just one of these things
- 22:14where I took a swipe and I won it
- 22:16[snorts] and um but again like there
- 22:19there was there was always a list of
- 22:21like 20 to 30 books where I was like oh
- 22:23my god it would be so awesome to own it.
- 22:25So, at one point I b I bought Silver
- 22:27Surfer number four and I and I and I got
- 22:30um I bought books on Heritage and Comic
- 22:32Link.
- 22:33>> So, I put bids in. I won uh Silver
- 22:36Surfer number four. I mean, these some
- 22:37of these books I ended up selling back.
- 22:39Uh Hulk 180. Um
- 22:43I actually have Fantastic 4 number 11. I
- 22:45sold it back, you know. So, there there
- 22:47were a couple of books. I had Spidey
- 22:49Spider-Man number 50 that I sold to
- 22:51Heritage. uh had a Spider-Man 129 that I
- 22:55sold.
- 22:55>> So this is this is like this is like
- 22:572020 time like before the boom and
- 22:59stuff. So yeah, like I think a lot of
- 23:01like
- 23:02>> it makes sense because you're winning
- 23:04bids when like things like were kind of
- 23:06died down at at that point before the
- 23:07whole thing went crazy. But uh somebody
- 23:10has a question for you. JSS Books and
- 23:12Brooklyn asks, "What are your reviews on
- 23:14the FF movie?"
- 23:15>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 23:15>> Did you like it?
- 23:16>> So I saw it twice. I saw the first one
- 23:18in the
- 23:20like uh the 3D version which I thought
- 23:23was great and then I saw it again cuz I
- 23:26knew I wasn't going to get a
- 23:27subscription to Disney. [laughter]
- 23:30I already I already had a subscription
- 23:31to Disney. I saw the movie all the
- 23:34Marvel movies again and I was like
- 23:35that's not worth the the $10. But um no,
- 23:39I thought it was great. I mean I would
- 23:41say it was I'd give it four and a half
- 23:43stars. I think I thought some of the
- 23:47um I wish they had more villains in it.
- 23:50>> I'd say that that like that was my only
- 23:52criticism
- 23:54>> was just I wish that there was more
- 23:55villains.
- 23:56>> People said that it was too short. I
- 23:58thought it was fine. I thought it was a
- 23:59lot better movie than Superman, but
- 24:00that's just me. Um
- 24:02>> Yeah. Yeah. No, I mean there was a
- 24:04couple I saw a couple of like scenes
- 24:06that were cut. There was one scene where
- 24:08Sue goes down to the, you know, to visit
- 24:10the Moleman to kind of, you know, to get
- 24:13his support for, uh, you know, for
- 24:16fighting Galactus when he comes here,
- 24:18you know. Um,
- 24:20yeah. And there was a couple of other
- 24:21smaller scenes. Like I said, I to me
- 24:23that was the um the only criticism. The
- 24:27other thing too, you know, again, I
- 24:29always speak my mind, like I didn't
- 24:31think Pedro Pascal was the best fit for
- 24:36um Reed Richards.
- 24:37>> Reed Richards. Yeah.
- 24:38>> Yeah. I was
- 24:38>> I thought he was okay.
- 24:39>> Yeah. I was kind of hoping they would
- 24:41have uh John Krosinski again.
- 24:43>> Krinski. Everybody.
- 24:44>> Yeah. I mean, I thought he did a
- 24:45fantastic job in uh
- 24:48>> you know, the verse of Mandis. Yeah. I
- 24:50thought he did a fant and he looks the
- 24:51part. So, I I'd say that, you know, to
- 24:54me that was I wouldn't I wouldn't say I
- 24:57was disappointed, but I would say I I
- 25:00think he was a little miscast.
- 25:02>> I think I think the FF was a solid
- 25:04movie. It was a good film,
- 25:06>> but again, no FF film has done
- 25:08particularly well. All of them have
- 25:10really haven't done great. So, like for
- 25:12them to get where they were, I think
- 25:13it's been fine. But Oh, says, "Back in
- 25:151991, before going to school, I used to
- 25:18go and wait for my friend at his house.
- 25:20And while I waited, he had five boxes
- 25:22filled with 50s and 60s comics. I was in
- 25:26awe. He gifted me a Green Lantern 40.
- 25:28That's awesome. I mean, in 1991, I mean,
- 25:31I can imagine what some of those were
- 25:32worth back then. Probably pennies on the
- 25:34dollar with what they are now. But as
- 25:36always, guys, in the chat, I want to
- 25:38hear your questions. If you have
- 25:39questions, we talked a little bit about
- 25:40like what everybody's picking up. I
- 25:42asked Daario what he picked up. I don't
- 25:44think he picked up anything. I think I
- 25:45think you showed me at the show you
- 25:46bought a couple of FFS. But
- 25:48>> yeah, I have
- 25:50>> Hold on a second here. I want to dig in
- 25:51my
- 25:53>> my box of oh stuff.
- 25:56>> While you're doing that, I'm going to
- 25:57ask the chat. Does any anybody out there
- 25:59collect other stuff out there? Like you
- 26:01guys know I collect a ton of stuff and
- 26:03I've started doing videos on other stuff
- 26:05as well. So Dario, I'll ask start with
- 26:07you. Do you collect other stuff as well
- 26:08or just comics?
- 26:09>> Uh no. Well, you know, I I
- 26:13I'm a collector by heart because in the
- 26:17early 90s when Upper Deck came out, I I
- 26:22started buying like Upper Deck hockey
- 26:23cards cuz it it went from like Tops and
- 26:27Score, which were crap, to Upper Deck.
- 26:30And immediately they raised the game. I
- 26:31mean, they were like the complete and
- 26:32then obviously for, you know, mostly for
- 26:34baseball, but for hockey, it was a
- 26:36complete game changer. And then they
- 26:37came out with like the European set as
- 26:40well. So when that started, I I was
- 26:43like, you know what? Let me just do
- 26:44something unique because everybody is is
- 26:47um is buying what's out right now. And
- 26:49then, you know, they totally ruined it
- 26:50by coming out with like six or seven
- 26:52different sets. And it was like, oh
- 26:53wait, that's the official rookie, the
- 26:55unofficial rookie. So I actually I
- 26:57actually put together the 1952 Parkhurst
- 27:00hockey set,
- 27:02>> one card at a time,
- 27:04>> and Oh, wow.
- 27:05>> Yeah. And it was the good the the good
- 27:07thing about it was it was 105 cards
- 27:10total. So I don't want to say easy to
- 27:13put together, but like I would go to
- 27:15shows
- 27:16and people I would literally look at
- 27:19their um display and they might have two
- 27:23and I'm like, "How much for the, you
- 27:25know, for this guy for that guy?" And
- 27:26they're like, "Ah, 20 bucks, 30 bucks.
- 27:28I'll take it." And then I I actually
- 27:30went to Montreal. We used to go up to um
- 27:33to go to Ranger games up in Montreal.
- 27:36And I actually took a bus across town to
- 27:40the French section of Montreal because
- 27:41for you know most people in f in
- 27:43Montreal speak both but this was like
- 27:45literally the guy spoke broken English
- 27:48and he had a bunch of them and I came
- 27:50back and I and I bought a bunch of those
- 27:52commons and came back and then little by
- 27:55little I started buying some of the uh
- 27:56the more expensive cards cuz they're all
- 27:58the rookies of everyone. Gordy, how
- 28:00Maurice Rashard, uh, etc., etc., you
- 28:03know. So, I and then I ended up selling
- 28:04that set on Heritage, you know. So,
- 28:07yeah. So, I've always and and you know,
- 28:09so I know I don't want to say I know a
- 28:10ton about baseball cards, but like, you
- 28:12know, T206 baseball, the 19101
- 28:16cards, you know, whenever I see those at
- 28:18a show, you know, I I kind of like, "Oh,
- 28:20that's so cool." For me, but just
- 28:21because honestly, it's silly because I'm
- 28:22a history junkie. So I always look at
- 28:25that and you know you you think about
- 28:27like okay that card was in a like either
- 28:30a cigarette
- 28:32you know a box of cigarettes or a cigar
- 28:34box right so and there was one card in
- 28:37there right so I mean again people
- 28:40smoked a lot back in the day so it was
- 28:42easy to get 30 40 of those cards if you
- 28:45know if you smoked a lot or your family
- 28:47smoked a lot but you know
- 28:49>> so show show us show us your FFS that
- 28:51you pick up or whatever you picked up
- 28:52>> here's the Spidey that I got.
- 28:54>> Oh, you still have it? Oh, wow.
- 28:56>> No, no, I didn't sell this guy. Uh, this
- 28:58>> that's a nice copy, too.
- 28:59>> So much colors are beautiful.
- 29:01>> Yeah, it's a off-white.
- 29:04>> TM Nerdy says he ruined his family's
- 29:06home when he came out. Um, thanks for
- 29:09sharing, brother. Appreciate that.
- 29:10[laughter]
- 29:12>> So, that's beautiful. Beautiful.
- 29:15>> Thank you. I picked up
- 29:18>> John B and D. What's going on, brother?
- 29:20I picked up a Captain America 227 and a
- 29:229.8. Wow, man. Congrats.
- 29:26>> So, this is the one that I just got.
- 29:31>> F15.
- 29:33>> He's got like every FF book out there,
- 29:35and he's got multiple copies. So, if you
- 29:37ever want to buy FF, you know where to,
- 29:39you know, the guy to hit up. I will say
- 29:41that.
- 29:41>> So, I just got this one. So, remember I
- 29:43was telling you like, should I get the
- 29:44SL them slabbed or whatever? So, I was
- 29:47just thinking, you know what? Maybe,
- 29:48maybe I'll just buy the slab version and
- 29:50sell the raw version. So, I have that.
- 29:53Then,
- 29:54what else did I just get?
- 29:58Oh,
- 29:58>> my boy Heritan with the $2 Canadian
- 30:01super chat. It's Friday night. You
- 30:03playing Contra or Metroid? I don't think
- 30:05you can go bad. I was just having a
- 30:06conversation with somebody actually
- 30:08about Contra the arcade game versus the
- 30:11NES console game. And I'm hearing
- 30:13there's there's possibly a Contra arcade
- 30:15game in the works. I don't know if it's
- 30:18ever going to come to fruition, but
- 30:19that's a little birdie told me that. So,
- 30:21I don't know. I'm picking either one. I
- 30:23I'll I played both till at Nauseium. I
- 30:26never beat Metroid, the original. I'll
- 30:27say that right here. The game was too
- 30:29hard for me. Contra obviously it was
- 30:31easier to beat if you had the codes with
- 30:33the uh the infin infinite lives. So, I
- 30:36um that's a that's a tough question to
- 30:38answer, bro. I'm playing Mike Tyson's
- 30:40Punch Out if if I'm home on a Friday
- 30:41night. [laughter]
- 30:42>> The original the one where you where you
- 30:44can't beat Mike. I dude I beat Mike. I
- 30:47Dude, it didn't Once I got past King
- 30:50Hippo and figuring out that you had to
- 30:52to hit him exactly at the time when he
- 30:54when he went up. As soon as I figured
- 30:56that out, I was off to the races,
- 30:58brother. [laughter]
- 31:00>> All right. So, here I just got this one
- 31:01on Comic Link.
- 31:04>> Molecule, man.
- 31:05>> Yeah. So, this is I got this for a
- 31:07steal. I mean, you know, I was going to
- 31:09say if anyone wants to ask questions
- 31:11about like where to where to get and
- 31:14prices and whatever, let me know. I
- 31:15mean, I can't, you know, I can't, you
- 31:19know, I can give you advice, but I
- 31:21think, you know, Lawrence, you were
- 31:22talking about, um, you know, going to
- 31:25shows as well. I mean, I haven't really
- 31:28bought anything at a show recently
- 31:29because
- 31:31I'm not buying a stack of books. Like,
- 31:33when I first started going to the
- 31:35Clifton shows, right? I would go and I'd
- 31:37go to Dave. I forgot his last name, but
- 31:39I would, you know, I'd pull out like 10
- 31:41books and I
- 31:42>> So, before you go any before you go any
- 31:44further, let me tell everybody out there
- 31:45what the Clifton shows is. It's
- 31:47basically they run once a month comic
- 31:49show in Northern New Jersey and they
- 31:51switch locations to like there's four
- 31:52different spots I think they go. So, one
- 31:55month it's in Clifton, next month in Sid
- 31:57Wayne. So, they rotate towns, but it
- 31:59occurs every month throughout the year.
- 32:01So, go ahead. You go went to the Clifton
- 32:02show.
- 32:03>> Yeah. No, so when I first started going,
- 32:04that was like in 2020. I would go and
- 32:06I'd put I'd pull together like a stack
- 32:08out of the box and I'd say give me a
- 32:10price, right? But you know the thing is
- 32:12right now everyone is so over I'd say
- 32:16just it's more of a now thing that
- 32:17because everything is still sort of on
- 32:21two years ago's prices that I don't even
- 32:25want to make an offer on something
- 32:26because like
- 32:28>> it's so far out of slack. Yeah, I'm the
- 32:30same way.
- 32:30>> Somebody had an FF164.0
- 32:33I know. And
- 32:36uh it was $400.
- 32:38And I know for a fact that, you know,
- 32:42some books sold recently on Heritage and
- 32:44Comic Link for maybe in the round. Okay,
- 32:47let's just say even on the high side
- 32:48300, but still in the twos. I mean,
- 32:51there was a couple books that I swiped
- 32:52at that I didn't get that I knew it was
- 32:54going to be a bidding war because every
- 32:56time I bid like twice, I kept getting
- 32:58and I just kind of gave up on it. So, so
- 33:01in that point there, you know, if it's
- 33:03$400 and I, you know, how they say,
- 33:05okay, sure, no offer is a bad offer, but
- 33:06like I go, all right, you know, if I go
- 33:08260,
- 33:10you got it at 400, it's like, well, you
- 33:12know, if you didn't, if you haven't
- 33:13priced it from since two years ago, of
- 33:16course, it's going to make look like
- 33:18insulting. So, it's almost not even
- 33:19worth the, you know, the offer. I think
- 33:21that's part of the challenge, too, is I
- 33:23don't know how people can go through
- 33:24hundreds and hundreds of books and
- 33:26repric them all, you know.
- 33:27>> Well, well, that's the thing. If you
- 33:28have a question on a book and you think
- 33:30it is overpriced, you got to say, I
- 33:32mean, it's hard to do because you're not
- 33:33that type of
- 33:34>> you're not that type of guy that you're
- 33:36Yeah.
- 33:37>> Right.
- 33:37>> You have to be like, listen, the last
- 33:38sale in this grade is what, you know, is
- 33:41this. Can you can you be be at that or
- 33:43under that? You have to be willing to
- 33:45say that. A lot of collectors are not
- 33:46willing to be will willing to be that
- 33:48bold. So, I I get what you're saying,
- 33:50but at the end of the day, if you're a
- 33:51dealer and you have a book that's worth
- 33:54$400, you should be going monthly and
- 33:56and kind of checking on that price. Uh,
- 33:58shout out to Amazing Pop Culture Podcast
- 34:00with a $4.99 super chat. One of my boys.
- 34:03I've been on his channel twice now over
- 34:05the past two months, and he's got some
- 34:07fire videos and crazy views. So, he
- 34:11says, "What's up? What am I drinking?" I
- 34:13am drinking Makers Mark. Nothing crazy
- 34:15tonight. Oh yeah,
- 34:15>> I buy the like the little bottles
- 34:17because I don't want to if I get the
- 34:19whole big bottle, I'll drink the whole
- 34:20big bottle and I don't want it. So I
- 34:22I'll buy like a couple here and there.
- 34:24And secondly, he got a blind bag coming
- 34:26of Thunder Barbarian one coming to his
- 34:29house, which
- 34:30>> your boy shipped to him because I know
- 34:31he was looking for that when we talked
- 34:33about on his podcast and I saw it at at
- 34:34Zap and I said, you know, are you
- 34:36interested? He said, yeah. And I and I
- 34:37mailed it out to him. So thank you,
- 34:39brother. I appreciate that.
- 34:42So, so I got one other book that I
- 34:44pulled out. This is one that um
- 34:49I forgot somebody else had on the shelf.
- 34:51Do you remember?
- 34:52>> One of the other Yeah.
- 34:53>> dealers had it. I forgot. And this one I
- 34:56bought for from Comic Link as well. So,
- 34:58there's only like 110 copies of this
- 35:02>> on on the census. So 110 blue label and
- 35:06sorry 110
- 35:08regular edition regular copies and then
- 35:10110 var the green variants. So of course
- 35:13as a fan I had to have one.
- 35:15>> Yeah.
- 35:18>> Oh says you know my friend I'm a huge
- 35:2019s Twilight Zone and original War of
- 35:23the Worlds fanatic but acquiring any
- 35:25props from that show and movie is such a
- 35:28rare thing to find. So it's funny you
- 35:30say that. Oh he meant 1960s right there.
- 35:33So, it's funny because we talked about
- 35:35when the show started how like somebody
- 35:37asked the question of,
- 35:39>> you know, if if it's harder to get
- 35:41something in the genre or collection,
- 35:42let's just say comics, like I can't get
- 35:44this comic or I can't get these comics
- 35:46that I want, whether it's unavailable or
- 35:48out of the reach or whatever it is, you
- 35:51know, I I said, you know, I kind of move
- 35:52on to some of the other passions. So,
- 35:54it's funny you mentioned like these prop
- 35:56props and stuff like that
- 35:58>> because I was looking at a couple things
- 36:00that I saw and
- 36:02>> it was just like I I was trying to get
- 36:03like original pieces of Masters of
- 36:05Universe artwork. Uh, Heritage had some
- 36:08like a a few months back and I was in on
- 36:10the bidding for a while and it just got
- 36:12crazy expensive. But that's the type of
- 36:14[ __ ] that I'm looking for right now is
- 36:15just like super rare things for stuff
- 36:18that I have an affinity for. So, like I
- 36:20I have a buddy uh I had him on the
- 36:22podcast. His name is a sports card dad.
- 36:24He's a big Masters of Universe fan just
- 36:26like I am and he's been collecting some
- 36:28of the Minton card original figures as
- 36:30I've been looking for some as well. So
- 36:32like you fall back into stuff that you
- 36:34love whether it be rare not rare. I
- 36:37think though if you're looking for like
- 36:39if you fall out of one genre and you go
- 36:41to the next like you're kind of looking
- 36:42for like more things that are
- 36:44unavailable. That that's just my my
- 36:46mind.
- 36:48>> Yep. Are did you bid on like was it
- 36:50Cells like the the comic cells?
- 36:54>> It was auction. It was at auction at
- 36:55Heritage,
- 36:56>> right? Okay. Yeah, I was going to say uh
- 36:58I've seen stuff like that. I mean,
- 36:59there's always tons of movie props on
- 37:01Heritage. So,
- 37:03>> they they als they they also had like um
- 37:05original Garbage Pail Kid art, which I
- 37:07also bid on, but they ended up going for
- 37:09ridiculous insane like $25,000. Like, I
- 37:12would love to own original Garbage Pail
- 37:15Kid art. the stuff, the art that they
- 37:16made that was a card before they
- 37:18actually printed it. I would love that.
- 37:19That's like a oneofone iconic item for
- 37:23like a fad that I think a lot of people
- 37:24enjoy,
- 37:25>> right? Yeah. I saw the the card that you
- 37:27made of yourself.
- 37:29>> Yeah, that's my second dude. That was
- 37:31all AI, man. I just put it make I gave
- 37:34him a picture of myself like make me a
- 37:37garbage field kid and they shot that out
- 37:38like holy [ __ ] man. Izzy, what's going
- 37:41on, man? How are you doing, brother? Is
- 37:42he?
- 37:44>> Yeah. Wild.
- 37:46>> Saw him at the show doing the tour.
- 37:48[snorts]
- 37:49>> He's Yeah, he's growing. He's out there
- 37:51doing I like I liked his mic. They had
- 37:53you like real nice professional mic. Him
- 37:55and Cliffs on comics. It was they, you
- 37:57know, they're at every show though. They
- 37:59>> Oh, yeah. And here's the last one I got,
- 38:01Lawrence. So, like I don't only get FF.
- 38:04So, I picked up this one.
- 38:07>> Is that two?
- 38:08>> No.
- 38:08>> Or is that five? Five. Five. So, just
- 38:10because it's one of my favorite covers.
- 38:12The two The two is like way way too
- 38:15expensive, you know, and it's,
- 38:19you know, even for something that's
- 38:21[snorts] that's a rag, you know, they
- 38:23charge like a,000.
- 38:24>> I got a great question.
- 38:26>> This I got a great question for you and
- 38:28for everybody in the chat. So, if you're
- 38:29in the chat, I want you to to post the
- 38:31answers. I want you to answer this. What
- 38:34is the What is the biggest book in your
- 38:37collection? And what's your favorite
- 38:39book in your collection? Because that's
- 38:40something all the live streams I've
- 38:42done, I've never asked that question.
- 38:43So, I'll pose it to you first, Dario.
- 38:45What's your the biggest book you have
- 38:47and your favorite book that you have?
- 38:49>> So,
- 38:52this is my This is my biggest book.
- 38:56So, I got my FF1
- 38:59>> just lying right next to you, too. You
- 39:00just went down and you popped it out and
- 39:02you're ready.
- 39:02>> Well, you know, I I got them in my in my
- 39:04my box. So, this is my bad boy. I got
- 39:07this from Buzzard Brothers. [snorts]
- 39:09Highly recommend those guys. I know they
- 39:11do.
- 39:11>> Yeah, they're great.
- 39:12>> Yeah, Greg. And um I don't know if
- 39:16they've always done live sales, but I
- 39:17mean again if you're you're doing over
- 39:21the course of six years like the
- 39:26you know I know whatnot is still huge
- 39:28but I remember when that took off and
- 39:30you know Elite and all the other live
- 39:32streamers there but this is before even
- 39:34people were doing kind of those live
- 39:36sales and there were some people that I
- 39:38met along the way that now they are
- 39:42dealing comics. you know. So, but I
- 39:44would I don't know if this is my
- 39:46favorite book. Uh I don't know. I'm like
- 39:48a big cover guy. This is probably one of
- 39:52my favorites here.
- 39:54>> Oh, wow. Okay. Of course, Loki.
- 39:56>> Yeah. Yeah. So, all of my um all of my
- 40:00names offline is like Loki or Loki Fire.
- 40:03So, he's like one of my favorite just
- 40:05alltime characters. Um so, I had to have
- 40:08this there. Again, I see nobody in the
- 40:12chat posting what their favorite and and
- 40:15what their biggest is. There's no
- 40:17there's no shaming here, folks. So, I'll
- 40:18say I'll tell you mine. My favorite book
- 40:21in my collection is also the biggest
- 40:24book in my collection. And that's my
- 40:25Tech 27. I don't care if it's coverless.
- 40:28I don't and I don't care if it's missing
- 40:29pages, repro pages, but just to own it,
- 40:32it's just like wow. So, it's my favorite
- 40:35and it's my my my biggest book as well.
- 40:37So, it's just it it surpassed my AF15 at
- 40:40this point, even though I love
- 40:41Spider-Man, but just like the iconicness
- 40:44of that book is just is just jumped.
- 40:50All right, Lawrence, I'll bore you with
- 40:51a few more books.
- 40:54So, this is another one I had to have.
- 40:58So, Dr. Doom Concept. Yes, I talked
- 41:02about that was recently on my top 10
- 41:04comics of the week as well because I
- 41:06don't think a lot of people know about
- 41:07these silver age like uh these like
- 41:10prequels of like these characters.
- 41:12>> Yeah, a lot the the there's a few of
- 41:14them prior to this one. There's one
- 41:16literally called the Hulk. Then there's
- 41:19I think
- 41:21there's a thing
- 41:24>> right concept too. Obviously the you
- 41:25know
- 41:26>> I don't know about the thing. There's an
- 41:28FF There's an FF book that's not Tales
- 41:31of Suspense that was a prequel.
- 41:33>> Uh I forgot the name of it. It's like
- 41:34some weird like wow unknown something.
- 41:38>> Yeah. Mhm. Yeah. Unknown. It's like Mr.
- 41:41Fantastic or something like And then
- 41:43obviously Human Torch has been around it
- 41:45>> literally from day one,
- 41:47>> you know. And then here's another one
- 41:48too. This is uh actually I put a bid on
- 41:51another one this week. So this is the
- 41:52only golden age that I have.
- 41:55>> Oh, really? That's the only one? Yeah.
- 41:57Yeah. I mean it just the one was just
- 41:59literally on Heritage this week and this
- 42:03one I got for like 220
- 42:07and it's not in great shape. The one
- 42:10that was on it was still it was a 0.5
- 42:12but only because it had a little had
- 42:15like a coupon cut out in the back but it
- 42:17was it was crisp and sharp and that one
- 42:19went for like you know including buyer
- 42:21premium like 420 I think. And I was
- 42:24like, "All right, with taxes and
- 42:25shifting on it."
- 42:26>> Yeah. But I was I'm like, "You know
- 42:28what? If I'm going to drop 500, I'm
- 42:29going to drop it on another FF."
- 42:32>> Uh,
- 42:32>> so Izzy says Izzy says his FF67
- 42:36signed by Stanley is his favorite book.
- 42:38That's awesome, brother.
- 42:40>> That's the first uh I think that's the
- 42:42warlock in the in the cocoon.
- 42:43>> Cocoon. Yeah.
- 42:44>> And then his biggest book is The Hulk
- 42:46340. Triple sign. Izzy. Who's it signed
- 42:48by? Yeah. Yeah.
- 42:49>> I gotta assume McFarland.
- 42:51>> Who else? Who are the other two?
- 42:54That's a great book.
- 42:56Amazing Pop Culture Podcast. He says,
- 42:58"Lawrence, your guest has to admit that
- 43:00the female Silver Surfer named Shalabal
- 43:02and Johnny Storm were horrible in the FF
- 43:05movie." [laughter] I thought it made
- 43:07sense.
- 43:09>> Great. He's He was uh he was the same
- 43:12guy in um what you call he was one of
- 43:16the emperors
- 43:18in um what you call
- 43:21I'm blanking. Gladiator 2.
- 43:24>> Oh, no. Nobody saw Gladiator 2 except
- 43:26you, bro.
- 43:27>> Well, I My wife was like, "You want to
- 43:30go out to the movies?" And we saw it.
- 43:31So, and even Pedro Pascal was in that. I
- 43:33mean, he's like the new Lawrence uh
- 43:35what's his name?
- 43:37>> Uh what's his name? Samuel Jackson. So,
- 43:41>> he's like in every he's like in every
- 43:42movie.
- 43:44>> Pop Culture Podcast is breaking my
- 43:45chops. He's saying his biggest book is a
- 43:47treasury edition. Obviously, he had to
- 43:49fold it in half to fit in his long box.
- 43:52>> [laughter]
- 43:53>> Izzy says the 340 is signed by
- 43:56Mcfarlland P. David and Bob Whiteack.
- 43:59Very cool, man.
- 44:01>> So, I got the glare. So, I picked up the
- 44:05Silver Surfer Pop here, but these are I
- 44:08mean, these were cheap. And I got the uh
- 44:12all the pops here as well.
- 44:15>> So, they have them in the space suits.
- 44:18[snorts] So, while while you're talking
- 44:20about pops,
- 44:21>> yeah,
- 44:22>> are are you like, you know, pissed off
- 44:24that like, you know, they're not really
- 44:26collectible that much anymore? People
- 44:27People like lost lost their minds when I
- 44:29said that on a pop culture podcast. I
- 44:31was told
- 44:32>> well look I know a friend there's a
- 44:35friend of a friend
- 44:36>> who
- 44:38has his own collectible store
- 44:41>> and he he was selling uh pops and
- 44:46statues and and other collectibles not
- 44:48so much comics and um and this was going
- 44:51back three or four years and I'd go to
- 44:53the bar and I'd be like hey Mike how's
- 44:54your buddy doing? Oh he's he's killing
- 44:56it he's killing he's killing it. and uh
- 44:59he had a warehouse full of this stuff.
- 45:02Then when I saw him last year, I was
- 45:03like, "Oh, how's your buddy?" I'm like,
- 45:05you know, the market's He's like, "Oh my
- 45:07god." He goes, he's taking a bath on
- 45:09everything.
- 45:10>> Yeah.
- 45:10>> Nothing Nothing's selling, you know. So,
- 45:12it's, you know, it's timing. I mean, I
- 45:15buy this as a fan. I mean, these are
- 45:16like
- 45:17>> $14 each.
- 45:19>> Yeah. They're they're not they're not
- 45:20expensive. Now, if you're buying them
- 45:22now, they're not bad at all. But I have
- 45:24a question for somebody on
- 45:25>> here, you know. question from somebody
- 45:27on Instagram. Uh, Maddie says, "If I
- 45:30bought a Stanley signed comic without
- 45:32COA from eBay, could I get could I get
- 45:36an authentic yellow label by CGC?" And
- 45:38the answer is yes. They do do a
- 45:40>> They have a new yellow label which is
- 45:42non-witnessed. Um, as long as it is
- 45:44authentic, they will give you a yellow
- 45:46label, but
- 45:46>> yellow with a black uh trim on it.
- 45:49>> Yes. At the top. But the one thing I'll
- 45:50say to you, Maddie, is this. There's
- 45:51been a lot of known uh fraudulent
- 45:53signatures recently on eBay. So, please
- 45:56be careful if you are going to buy it.
- 45:58Um, you know, at least run it by
- 46:01somebody first to say, "Hey, do you
- 46:02think this is real?" Um, because I got
- 46:04to be honest with you, a lot of
- 46:06signatures on eBay are coming back fake.
- 46:08So, just please be careful,
- 46:10>> right? I mean, again, even if you even
- 46:12if it's a fivestar seller, right? I
- 46:15mean, you kind of have to trust them
- 46:17maybe, you know, but then right talk to
- 46:19them offline as well.
- 46:21>> Be careful. You know, I I I don't trust
- 46:24a lot of the the signatures out there on
- 46:25Robux that haven't been graded yet
- 46:28because
- 46:28>> when CGC announced that like people
- 46:30started sending stuff in and started
- 46:32putting up fake stuff left and right.
- 46:34So, just be careful. I wanted to show
- 46:36you this. That's why you guys saw me saw
- 46:37me back out of the screen for a little
- 46:39bit. But when I went to Toyf Fair,
- 46:41>> uh Mattel was nice enough to give me
- 46:43Masters of Universe Empire issue, which
- 46:46actually this had come out in overseas
- 46:48like a month prior to the United States.
- 46:51So they had it like literally like close
- 46:54to the day of release when I was over at
- 46:56Toyf Fair. So I would love to get this
- 46:58signed by some of the cast and maybe
- 47:00have it slab one day. But hopefully I
- 47:02will get to meet like you know Jaral or
- 47:05Nicholas Gallatine because I thought
- 47:06this was really cool to do that for for
- 47:08us MOTU fans being it's the year of
- 47:10Masters of the Universe.
- 47:12>> Well Lawrence are they going to be at
- 47:13like any other con where like they might
- 47:15be on a P that you can go to?
- 47:16>> No. So no. Like so toy fair is like its
- 47:19own thing. It's not like a con where
- 47:20everybody gets to go. Like they only let
- 47:23people in who are looking to stock some
- 47:24of these toys from these businesses, you
- 47:27know, that they're selling and they let
- 47:28some press in as well. So Joe Schmo
- 47:30can't go to this thing. So
- 47:32>> Oh, okay.
- 47:32>> Um
- 47:33>> industry only.
- 47:34>> Yeah. Exactly. So I was just happy happy
- 47:36to be let in.
- 47:37>> Mhm.
- 47:39>> So we'll see, you know, further down the
- 47:41road if uh if things progress and we get
- 47:43other things like that. But I was just
- 47:44happy to go on a year that they were
- 47:45doing the movie because like other years
- 47:48it might not have been such a a
- 47:50tremendous event, but because it was I
- 47:52mean it was still fun regardless. I'll
- 47:53go there again next year uh to kind of
- 47:55review some of the toys and stuff that
- 47:57come out. But it was a good time.
- 47:59>> Right. Here's here's something
- 48:00interesting, Lawrence. Now that we're
- 48:02talking about autographs, so this here,
- 48:06this I I sent I got I had this pressed
- 48:08and cleaned and sent in for grading,
- 48:10right? So I got a 40 on this. I bought
- 48:12it off of eBay and it says uh signed by
- 48:16Roy Thomas.
- 48:18>> Okay.
- 48:20>> Inside or on the cover?
- 48:21>> It's Yeah. No, it's on the first page.
- 48:23>> Okay.
- 48:23>> Right. On the splash page. But again, it
- 48:25says on here Roy Thomas signature on
- 48:28page one. So, I mean,
- 48:31>> but that's not verified.
- 48:33>> No. No, it's not. This is before they
- 48:35did the um they signed with that third
- 48:37third party company. So,
- 48:39>> I don't know if you if you want to crack
- 48:40that and rescend it in or maybe have
- 48:42them crack it out and verify the
- 48:44signature just for the yellow label
- 48:45because they do hold a little bit of a
- 48:47premium.
- 48:47>> Sure.
- 48:48>> I don't know about Roy Thomas healthy. I
- 48:50hate to say it but like there are
- 48:52certain signatures of artists or
- 48:54creators that really hold a big premium.
- 48:57Obviously Stanley is one of them. John
- 48:59Ramita is also one of them as well. Todd
- 49:01McFarland is another one. Even though
- 49:03>> Yeah. Old older guys. Yeah.
- 49:05But the like even Todd now is with so
- 49:08many signatures out there that's kind of
- 49:09waning as well. But Pop Culture Podcast
- 49:11says, "What's the best and worst Marvel
- 49:14movie in your opinion?" I'll let you
- 49:17start on this.
- 49:18>> Me? Oh,
- 49:19>> yeah.
- 49:19>> Infinity War and Endgame. I mean,
- 49:21they're like they were on yesterday.
- 49:23Infinity. I mean, it's almost like Good
- 49:26Fellas at this point. When it's on, I I
- 49:27have to watch it, [laughter] you know.
- 49:30>> So, what's the worst?
- 49:31>> The worst
- 49:33>> [sighs]
- 49:37>> I don't know. Carnage was pretty bad. Uh
- 49:40>> oh, the Venom uh two.
- 49:42>> Yeah, Venom Carnage. Um
- 49:44>> or was it three? It was three, I think.
- 49:46I don't know. I don't remember.
- 49:47>> Yeah, the third one. I don't know. I I
- 49:49have
- 49:50>> that was Sony. That wasn't Marvel. That
- 49:52was that was Sony.
- 49:53>> Thor Love and Thunder. I saw in the
- 49:55theater.
- 49:56>> Oh my god. I mean, from Ragnarok, which
- 50:00is probably second best movie in in the
- 50:03whole lexicon to one of the worst movies
- 50:07where it was just so forced. It was and
- 50:09I and I thought what's his name did a
- 50:11great job as Gore the God Butcher, but
- 50:13he didn't kill anyone. I mean, you know,
- 50:15they they PGed it. They had kids in it
- 50:19and they, you know, they had all these
- 50:21silly scenes and I'm like, "All right,
- 50:22enough of this pandering to kids." and I
- 50:25know what's his name directed both
- 50:26movies and you know directed the wor the
- 50:28best movie and the worst movie and like
- 50:30now you don't you know you don't you
- 50:32never hear of him anymore you know Taco
- 50:35or whatever his name is and uh yeah I
- 50:38mean completely forgettable
- 50:41>> so for me like I I'm going to tell you
- 50:43this I agree with you Love and Thunder
- 50:45was the by far the worst Marvel movie of
- 50:47all time
- 50:49though I'm going to challenge people to
- 50:51tell me I understand why people say
- 50:52Infinity War and Endgame I get it
- 50:54because like the massive, you know,
- 50:56whatever what the culmination of
- 50:58everything in those movies. I understand
- 51:00why people say that and they were great
- 51:01movies. The original Iron Man movie to
- 51:04this day is the best Marvel movie. I
- 51:06could watch it every time it's on.
- 51:09>> Phenomenal movie. So that that's my
- 51:11choice.
- 51:12>> Yeah, I saw that twice in the theater
- 51:13and
- 51:14>> yeah,
- 51:14>> I actually went by myself cuz you know
- 51:17it was it was 2009
- 51:19when that came out. Eight, right?
- 51:23No, it was 2008 when it came out. Yeah.
- 51:26>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, I just remember I
- 51:27was working like like insane hours and
- 51:31this and that and I just again it was
- 51:32another one of these things where I'm
- 51:33like I need a breather,
- 51:35>> you know. So, and my kids were still
- 51:37younger at the time, you know, now
- 51:39they're in their 20s, you know. So,
- 51:41like, you know, you look at that the
- 51:43time in your life too
- 51:45>> where you're like, "Oh, I wish I had
- 51:46done more." And you're like, "Well, how
- 51:47could I have? I didn't have the time or,
- 51:49you know, or the money to do it, you So,
- 51:51don't look back and regret people.
- 51:53>> Solid. Yeah, Solid Teleport says his
- 51:56biggest book is X-Men 1 and his CGC 2.5.
- 51:59That's a good one, man. And my favorite
- 52:01book is Giantsiz X-Men one. So, you got
- 52:03some bangers right there, man.
- 52:05>> Yep.
- 52:07>> Um, I see I see. Let me let me answer
- 52:10some questions first because we got a
- 52:11bunch of questions and whatever.
- 52:14>> So, Maddie says, "So, they have so they
- 52:16have a way that they could find it
- 52:17authentic, not fake, signed. Thank you."
- 52:20So, she still talked about the San Le.
- 52:21So, yes,
- 52:22>> they will authenticate if it's real or
- 52:24fake. So, my question is if you if
- 52:26you've already bought it, uh I would say
- 52:29yes, if you want to send it in and spend
- 52:30the money, they will tell you if it's
- 52:31real or fake, no question. And if it's
- 52:33real, they will give you a yellow label
- 52:35with a black bar at the top. They will
- 52:37do that, no questions asked. But if is
- 52:39fake, they will won't give it a yellow
- 52:42label and they'll give it a green label
- 52:43and say, you know, Stanley written on
- 52:47cover basically or or signature not
- 52:49authenticated. So you have to be careful
- 52:51because once you get this book
- 52:52authenticated, if it doesn't come back
- 52:54real signature, the [snorts] book is
- 52:56basically worth worthless. I'm not going
- 52:58to lie to you. So it is what it is. If
- 53:01you want to take that chance, uh I would
- 53:03say go for it. Uh, John B and D says
- 53:06Amazing Spider-Man's 129 ungraded and
- 53:09Tomb of Dracula 10 in a 9.8 first
- 53:13appearance of Blade. But what what is
- 53:15what, guys? Is is the ASM your favorite
- 53:17or is the ASM your most I got to assume
- 53:19the Tomb of Dracula 10 9.8 is the most
- 53:21valuable, right? Because that's it's a
- 53:239.8. But [ __ ]
- 53:25>> that is a book.
- 53:26>> Tough.
- 53:26>> Wow.
- 53:29>> Solo agrees with me. He says Iron Man is
- 53:31is the best movie of them all. I agree.
- 53:33the first one. It was just iconic. It
- 53:35really was.
- 53:38>> And you know, not to be nerdy too, but
- 53:40like
- 53:41>> they bet a lot on that because they
- 53:46they convinced Downey to do the movie,
- 53:49right? Cuz he was remember what he was
- 53:51like prior to that, right? All this
- 53:53controversy, right? I mean, he had the
- 53:55acting chops and he had the look and the
- 53:57swagger, but you know, was he toxic,
- 54:00right? So he was he was kind of the test
- 54:03and then the movie was a test and that
- 54:05just took off. So
- 54:08>> Oh, Ham, I do not believe you. He says,
- 54:09"I haven't watched any superhero movies
- 54:11besides Batman 89 and Batman Returns." I
- 54:14no way I believe that. No freaking way.
- 54:18>> Especially if you buy comics. I just I
- 54:20just can't I can't.
- 54:22>> Heran another super chat. Thank you so
- 54:24much, brother. Why green label? If it's
- 54:26complete, shouldn't it be blue? If it
- 54:28it's like if you signed Lawrence Mighty
- 54:30Comics on the cover, randoms put their
- 54:32name on books all the time. Yeah, but
- 54:34this is like a would be a fraudulent
- 54:36signature. So I, you know, I'm not the
- 54:38expert on if it's going to come back
- 54:39green. I assume it would come back
- 54:40green. There are books out there that
- 54:43have somebody's signature on it that are
- 54:45not, you know, before they started
- 54:47authenticating that are green label.
- 54:49>> Like Daario shows you, he shows you a
- 54:51Roy Thomas on on the on the first page
- 54:54and it's blue.
- 54:55>> Yep. So it it's CGC. They do one thing
- 54:59one time and another thing another time.
- 55:01So I've been on them for that since the
- 55:03beginning because there's no
- 55:04consistency. They'll tell you that like
- 55:06it depends on the grade blah blah blah.
- 55:08[ __ ] I'll also say this.
- 55:10>> If you can put a note when you when you
- 55:13submit something, please give me a blue
- 55:15label. I've done that in the past years
- 55:17ago on like books that like either
- 55:21I thought there was an issue where and
- 55:22they gave me like my Amazing Spider-Man
- 55:24one. I have a.5 the back cover missing
- 55:27and I wrote a note on it saying do not
- 55:29give a green label. I'd rather have a
- 55:32blue label and a.5. And that's what they
- 55:33did.
- 55:34>> So you can request it. They don't always
- 55:37listen to you as well. So it's like it's
- 55:38depends who you get over there. So it's
- 55:40nothing's consistent unfortunately.
- 55:43>> Yeah. And Lawrence, I think even on that
- 55:45FF4, I didn't even call out the the
- 55:48autograph because I knew they wouldn't
- 55:51uh authenticate it. So, I didn't even
- 55:53bother like I just sent it in. They just
- 55:55said, you know, F4,
- 55:56>> you know,
- 55:57>> now they will though. Now they will if
- 55:58you crack it and send it in, they will.
- 55:59>> Prior to that, like I just submitted it
- 56:01with, you know, what I thought the value
- 56:04was and you know, like I said, clean
- 56:06press, boom, send it off to CGC.
- 56:10>> Yeah.
- 56:10>> Any more questions? [snorts]
- 56:12>> Yeah, guys, please ask. Like, I don't
- 56:14want to hold you up either, Dar, if you
- 56:15got to go. I know this is like a first
- 56:17for you coming on with me. It's been
- 56:18like
- 56:18>> Yeah. No, I'm enjoying You know what it
- 56:20is? It's just Fridays are tough because
- 56:22you know I'm working all week and then
- 56:24usually my wife and I are both like we
- 56:26got to go out you know so you know like
- 56:29here I don't know if you can see it the
- 56:31glare is terrible but see it says like
- 56:34Roy Thomas sign their you know splash
- 56:36page so and like I said it was cool that
- 56:40they call that out but it wasn't
- 56:42something that I asked them to uh
- 56:43verify.
- 56:45>> So that's my point though like you know
- 56:46what
- 56:47>> I've seen them with a blue label. Yeah.
- 56:48And I've seen them with green label. So,
- 56:50it's very consistent. And I actually,
- 56:52it's funny because when I actually
- 56:54messaged Matt Nelson on email like years
- 56:56ago when I had a Batman one that was a
- 56:58five
- 56:59>> and I said, "Listen,
- 57:00>> I said this says it's married, but it
- 57:02said the cover was married, but I've
- 57:04seen other books that are blue label
- 57:05that has the same annotation. So, why is
- 57:08this green and the other one's blue?"
- 57:09And he basically says, he told me
- 57:11straight out, he said, "All books with a
- 57:13married cover should be green label." I
- 57:15said, "Well, I've seen them without, so
- 57:17tell me why." And that was that was the
- 57:19there was no answer basically. So I get
- 57:21it. It's fine if it's a green label, but
- 57:23it's got to be that across the board.
- 57:26>> Yeah. I mean I have I've asked a million
- 57:28people this too and then there's a
- 57:29couple of questions in the in the chat,
- 57:31but I have a FF8 where it has the tear
- 57:36has a tear on the right side of P the
- 57:39cover. But I actually have the piece
- 57:42where if you put it on it almost looks
- 57:44like it literally looks like there's no
- 57:46tear. So, I'm afraid of putting it a
- 57:48piece of tape in the back. And everyone
- 57:49was like, you know, even I showed it to
- 57:51Dan Gallow and and some other people and
- 57:53they were like, I just put a piece of
- 57:54tape on it and send it to CGC,
- 57:56>> you know, but then I'm afraid of getting
- 57:57a purple label,
- 57:59>> right? And
- 58:00>> no, you won't get tape will not be
- 58:02purple label. Never never going to
- 58:04happen. If it's just tape, they won't
- 58:06get a purple no matter what. I've never
- 58:07seen that. Just tape. There has to be
- 58:09something.
- 58:10>> There has to be something else. But, um,
- 58:12here's a good question. We haven't
- 58:14touched this on this yet in the chat.
- 58:15What are your thoughts on cherry
- 58:16pop-tart type of books and underground
- 58:18books in general? I want to start on
- 58:21this one. I actually love that type of
- 58:22comic material as long as it's
- 58:24affordable. I'm not going to pay up for
- 58:26those books like that, but I do find
- 58:28them very collectible if that's your
- 58:30niche.
- 58:31>> I'm that type of guy. I don't know how
- 58:33to say it better than that. Like I love
- 58:36titty books. I love like especially like
- 58:38I remember went to um what's the show up
- 58:41in Connecticut? uh the freaking the one
- 58:44in the casino. What's it called?
- 58:46Terrific. Terrific. I went to Terrificon
- 58:48and I bought a Masters of the Universe
- 58:51sorceress
- 58:52titty book. She's on the cover. The art
- 58:54was absolutely amazing. But it was just
- 58:56incredible art. Cans are hanging out. I
- 58:59bought it. It was cheap and I was like,
- 59:01you know what?
- 59:03>> That's my type of book for for the
- 59:04amount of money I'm going to spend. So,
- 59:06I like Cherry Poptart. Believe it or
- 59:07not, I've covered the first appearance
- 59:09of her on the top 10 comics of the week,
- 59:11and that is not a cheap book. So, you
- 59:13can find them for for cheap. I'm all for
- 59:16it. Same with underground books. Like,
- 59:17they're very unique, very niche.
- 59:19>> Uh like I saw a Cocaine Comics at uh
- 59:22King Kong.
- 59:23>> Yep. All those Cocaine books and
- 59:26>> Yeah.
- 59:26>> Right. The name the
- 59:29>> rel relatively cheap. So,
- 59:32>> but you know, but he was the only one
- 59:33there. And honestly, I even told I even
- 59:35said I'm like, "You have a sick
- 59:37collection here." Uh he had some
- 59:39Chromebooks as well. And uh I was like,
- 59:42"You're looking for that niche
- 59:45collector." Yeah. And he's like, he
- 59:46goes, "No." He goes, "We'll sell some
- 59:47books here." But I go,
- 59:49>> you know,
- 59:50>> you're you know, you almost need like an
- 59:52indie con,
- 59:54>> you know, of of kind of or a section in
- 59:56the like in the con,
- 59:59>> you know, for that type of work, right?
- 1:00:01But that's what made King Kong great is
- 1:00:03because you had a a lot of variety. You
- 1:00:05have people stuff like like people like
- 1:00:08me were like searching for that stuff
- 1:00:09now. They had that. They had regular
- 1:00:11like mainstream stuff. They had modern.
- 1:00:13They had Pokemon. So it was just a great
- 1:00:15variety. And Izzy, yes, I did do a King
- 1:00:17Kong video already. That means you
- 1:00:19haven't watched it. So get on
- 1:00:20[clears throat] that, brother. I
- 1:00:21appreciate it. Go watch that video. But
- 1:00:23yes, I did do a review.
- 1:00:24>> He mentioned you. He mentioned you on
- 1:00:26it.
- 1:00:27I did just just like I watched your I
- 1:00:29know you did a he did a live show there
- 1:00:30and I watched that as well. Mhm. You
- 1:00:33know what I'm noticing, Lawrence, too,
- 1:00:35just because I follow um
- 1:00:38>> what you call comic uh whatever go
- 1:00:40collect and I always look at like the
- 1:00:42top sellers the
- 1:00:45uh well not the good girl books but like
- 1:00:47the love story books and the Dell books
- 1:00:51like there's just a little bit of a you
- 1:00:53know like Scooby-Doo's
- 1:00:56and um space ghost. Well, that tells me
- 1:01:00you don't watch you don't watch my
- 1:01:01videos either because if you watch my
- 1:01:03top 10 comics of the week every week,
- 1:01:05you notice that there's a ton of Dell
- 1:01:06books on there right now. A ton,
- 1:01:08>> right? And that's I think that is a
- 1:01:12shift sort of probably in like I can't
- 1:01:16afford these crazy keys anymore, you
- 1:01:18know, or you know, somebody had a
- 1:01:20question about Absolute Batman, which I
- 1:01:21think is a fantastic series. I mean, and
- 1:01:24I I do
- 1:01:24>> we're going to get we're going to get to
- 1:01:26that before you even go there. We're
- 1:01:27going to get to that. But like we talked
- 1:01:28on Dell and same thing for Gold Key. We
- 1:01:30haven't had as many gold keys appear on
- 1:01:32the top 10, but they've been on there as
- 1:01:34well. So he's, you know, Oh says he's
- 1:01:36got that's where his heart is right now
- 1:01:37with he loves those hand painted covers.
- 1:01:40And we're talking about hand painted. We
- 1:01:41just saw the the cover for uh
- 1:01:42Vampereella one sell for crazy amount of
- 1:01:45money, the original art. So like I see
- 1:01:48all those obscure things starting to
- 1:01:49come to like market and start to like
- 1:01:51be, you know, valuable. People looking
- 1:01:53into those things. That's why I'm
- 1:01:55reporting on it on the top 10 because
- 1:01:56those are the things that people are
- 1:01:57actually buying.
- 1:01:58>> See it, right?
- 1:01:59>> Yeah. We know that. We know that the
- 1:02:01mainstream stuff, we know where it's at.
- 1:02:03We know that there's a million copies of
- 1:02:04everything. But these obscure keys that
- 1:02:06Dell, the gold key, the cherry
- 1:02:09pop-tarts, all those little niche books,
- 1:02:10the underground books, and even like the
- 1:02:12golden age stuff that's not readily
- 1:02:14available, those are the things they're
- 1:02:15selling. That's why they appear on that
- 1:02:16list. But um
- 1:02:18>> back to the uh Solo Reaper says, "What
- 1:02:21do you guys think of the absolute
- 1:02:22series? What do we think it's going to
- 1:02:24be worth? I'll let you start with that.
- 1:02:27>> Yeah, I mean, look, I, you know, value
- 1:02:30is based on scarcity, right? You know,
- 1:02:32so I don't know how many copies of 9.8s
- 1:02:34are out there. I I would say, you know,
- 1:02:36in terms
- 1:02:38>> Exactly. Right. So, I would say, you
- 1:02:40know, just I I mean, I just picked up a
- 1:02:42copy just to read it at the show. Um
- 1:02:46I mean, it's literally like right here.
- 1:02:49And um you know I paid whatever it was
- 1:02:52five bucks for it and I you know I'll
- 1:02:54probably buy the rest of them just to
- 1:02:55read. You know I would say as a you know
- 1:02:58as a collector
- 1:03:00um
- 1:03:02I don't know if it's worth $300 for 9.8
- 1:03:05or $400 for 9.8. I mean at this point
- 1:03:09yeah at this point it's I don't want to
- 1:03:10say it's it's had its run. I think it's
- 1:03:13I think it's great. I think it's you
- 1:03:14know the fact that it's bringing a lot
- 1:03:16of people in the market. I actually saw
- 1:03:18um a little Instagram video of Method
- 1:03:21Man talking about the entire
- 1:03:23>> I saw that as well.
- 1:03:24>> You saw that of Absolute Batman and how,
- 1:03:26you know, it's it's kind of bringing a
- 1:03:28lot of people back into, you know, to
- 1:03:30reading comics based on the stories and
- 1:03:32the art, you know. So, um I don't want
- 1:03:34to say I'm I'm not bullish on it, but
- 1:03:36like I'd say collect it as a fan, but
- 1:03:38I'm not sure if there's a ton of
- 1:03:40long-term value there.
- 1:03:42>> Yeah. Yeah. And again, I want to remind
- 1:03:43you guys if you if anybody else wants to
- 1:03:45jump in on the chat, they're more than
- 1:03:46welcome to besides me and Dario here.
- 1:03:48But I will say this about Absolute
- 1:03:49Batman. If you if you think it's a
- 1:03:51phenomenal read, I think that's awesome.
- 1:03:53But why are we forget about the story
- 1:03:56aspect of it? When it comes to buying
- 1:03:58collectibles at high dollar value,
- 1:04:02you have to look at the quantity
- 1:04:03available. And because it's a modern
- 1:04:04book, you only want that book in a 9.8
- 1:04:07like most modern collectors. And there's
- 1:04:08already a ton of them out there. So,
- 1:04:11it's it's going to drive the price down
- 1:04:13on the book. So, it's already like under
- 1:04:16$400 or people were paying getting
- 1:04:18closer to $300, probably going to drop
- 1:04:20even further because of the amount that
- 1:04:21are out there and available. So, I just
- 1:04:24think down the line if you love the book
- 1:04:25and you love the story,
- 1:04:27>> you know, you could own the book, buy a
- 1:04:28raw copy if you could find one. If not,
- 1:04:30just get it because you want to own it.
- 1:04:32You could buy the the trade paperbacks
- 1:04:33of like the first five or 10 issues,
- 1:04:35whatever it is. That that's what I did.
- 1:04:36Uh just because I want to read it
- 1:04:38because everybody's just raving about
- 1:04:39it. So,
- 1:04:41>> right, you're a Batman fan, too. I mean,
- 1:04:43I'm
- 1:04:43>> Yeah, you know,
- 1:04:44>> but it's nothing
- 1:04:46show. And I know, but still, right?
- 1:04:50It's an alternative universe, right?
- 1:04:52>> Yeah. It's it's it's nothing like the
- 1:04:54Batman that that you and I grew up with.
- 1:04:56So, that's why I don't like when they
- 1:04:58take a character and kind of reinvent it
- 1:05:00because people who are a fan of the
- 1:05:01character when they go to read that,
- 1:05:02they're instantly turned off. At le
- 1:05:06not not all of us. Some maybe just just
- 1:05:07love a a new fresh story and that's
- 1:05:09great. I want to see, you know, my
- 1:05:12Batman is Frank Miller's Batman. So
- 1:05:13that's what I want to see. I want to see
- 1:05:14guy who hates everything except freaking
- 1:05:19beating the freak out of people because
- 1:05:21he hates basically his regular life and
- 1:05:23he he hates the way he's you know, you
- 1:05:27know what I'm saying? To me, Frank
- 1:05:28Miller's Batman is my Batman. I can't
- 1:05:30read anything else besides that. I used
- 1:05:32to be able to read some of the stuff
- 1:05:33that was done in the 80s like be, you
- 1:05:35know, I thought it was good like just to
- 1:05:37be, you know, a fun Batman, you know,
- 1:05:39story-wise, but like once I read Frank
- 1:05:41Miller's Batman, it was like, you know
- 1:05:42what, I get it.
- 1:05:44>> Yeah. So that's always been the
- 1:05:45definitive Batman for me.
- 1:05:46>> Sure. And there was I think just I'm
- 1:05:48seeing a lot of stuff the anniversary of
- 1:05:49it, right? I think
- 1:05:51>> Well, they just released Yeah, they just
- 1:05:53released another um trade of it. I don't
- 1:05:56know what the re what printing it is at
- 1:05:57this point, but I did see it at Zap when
- 1:05:58I went this week. So, they just released
- 1:06:00another one.
- 1:06:02I see a couple of questions in there.
- 1:06:05>> What are your thoughts on CLA CLA
- 1:06:07Classics Illustrated?
- 1:06:10So, it's funny. It's funny you mentioned
- 1:06:11this pop culture. I was at there's a a
- 1:06:13great antique shop by me. I don't know
- 1:06:15if you've been to it, Dario. I forget
- 1:06:17the name of it, but it's like a giant
- 1:06:18warehouse and they have comics. I've
- 1:06:21gone there before. I did a video years
- 1:06:23ago when I went there
- 1:06:25>> and they have a ton of classic stuff.
- 1:06:28Uh, I want to say it's Midland Park.
- 1:06:30>> Oh, okay.
- 1:06:32>> But they had a ton of classics
- 1:06:34illustrated there, but I don't know like
- 1:06:36what I'm looking at. I'm not going to
- 1:06:38lie to you.
- 1:06:39>> So, like I don't know if many of them
- 1:06:41hold value. I have no idea. I'm sure
- 1:06:43they're great reads, but
- 1:06:45>> when I say they had a ton, they had like
- 1:06:46at least a long box full of all classic
- 1:06:48illustrated there. So, like if you could
- 1:06:50direct me and give me like some titles I
- 1:06:52should be looking for or issues, I can
- 1:06:54go back there and look. But as far as
- 1:06:57like collectibility, I'm sure at one
- 1:06:59point people did. I don't see a lot of
- 1:07:00people collecting classic Illustrated
- 1:07:02right now.
- 1:07:03>> Yeah, I've seen a bunch on. Again, I I
- 1:07:05always defer to like Heritage or Comic
- 1:07:07Link. It's it's one or the other that I
- 1:07:09see on it. I mean, again, if it's slabed
- 1:07:11and it's it's a high grade, again, just
- 1:07:13because those books are are pretty old,
- 1:07:16then, you know, there's some value to
- 1:07:17it, but I mean, you know, I don't know.
- 1:07:19I don't think they go for more than $100
- 1:07:21to $200. There might be one or two books
- 1:07:24that um you know are like the ones to
- 1:07:26have within the series. But yeah, again,
- 1:07:30if you're buying it, you're buying it
- 1:07:31because you like it.
- 1:07:33>> Yeah, exactly. Helmouth presents says
- 1:07:34Dark Knight changed his life. I read it
- 1:07:36once a year. That's how I was, man. Like
- 1:07:38once you once I read that book, I was
- 1:07:40like,
- 1:07:40>> "Holy crap." like like I don't I'm going
- 1:07:44to be personal here for a bit but like
- 1:07:47I as as when I read that as a kid like I
- 1:07:50was like 11 or 12 years old and I was
- 1:07:53like you know what I that that story
- 1:07:55resonated with me that that Batman
- 1:07:56resonated with me so much because of the
- 1:07:59way I grew up that it was just like it
- 1:08:02resonated a lot with me as well man. So,
- 1:08:05I get what you're saying. Like, it's
- 1:08:07just like totally changed the way I
- 1:08:09looked at things, the way I looked at
- 1:08:10comics, Batman. So, I totally get it. It
- 1:08:13It's a great read. If you haven't
- 1:08:15watched the uh there was an animated
- 1:08:17feature done on that, I own it as well.
- 1:08:19It was a really good portrayal of the
- 1:08:21comic as well. go check that out because
- 1:08:23it was just such a good story and and
- 1:08:26just something I think the character
- 1:08:28needed.
- 1:08:35A little bit of silence there. The day
- 1:08:37John B and D says that the day that I
- 1:08:39won the auction for Tumor Dracula 10 was
- 1:08:42the day I lost my job. Holy [ __ ] And so
- 1:08:45refresh your memory. He he bought a 9.8.
- 1:08:48>> Really didn't know whether to buy the
- 1:08:49book or not. I took the chance and
- 1:08:51bought it anyway. So, I gotta assume,
- 1:08:53John, that you everything turned out all
- 1:08:55right. So, that that's a a feel-good
- 1:08:57story. I hope
- 1:09:00>> that that's, you know, I So, again, I'll
- 1:09:02get a little personal here. I know
- 1:09:03Daario knows this, but like
- 1:09:05>> u my family business closed in January,
- 1:09:07the end of January. So, right now, I'm
- 1:09:09only working like part-time somewhere
- 1:09:11else. So, I'm not taking in a lot of
- 1:09:13income, which is fine. We all wanted
- 1:09:15this and I knew it for a long time that
- 1:09:16I was going to be take some time off and
- 1:09:19then figure out kind of where I wanted
- 1:09:20to go from here in my life. So, I get
- 1:09:22it. Um, that's why another reason why I
- 1:09:24don't buy as as much stuff as I used to
- 1:09:27because, you know, I really have to be
- 1:09:29smart about where I spend my income. So,
- 1:09:31I get what you're saying.
- 1:09:35>> Yeah. No, I hear you, Lawrence. I mean,
- 1:09:38for me,
- 1:09:40like I go to shows now sometimes to see
- 1:09:43people.
- 1:09:44>> Yeah, exactly.
- 1:09:45>> It was great to go to King Kong. I mean,
- 1:09:47I knew I was going to see you, which was
- 1:09:48great, but I saw like four or five other
- 1:09:49guys I hadn't seen in a while.
- 1:09:51>> Uh, a lot of sellers that I that I know
- 1:09:53just by going to shows, you know, I'm
- 1:09:55still looking. I'm still digging in the
- 1:09:57boxes. But, you know, I I feel like,
- 1:10:02you know, the chase is the is the fun
- 1:10:03part of it because I did complete the FF
- 1:10:06run, right? Which again for me is like,
- 1:10:08you know, just
- 1:10:10a great goal of my life. I know it
- 1:10:12sounds silly. Um, but that's why I'm
- 1:10:14buying scoops, you know?
- 1:10:16>> It's really it's really not it's really
- 1:10:17not silly because you know what?
- 1:10:20>> Being a collector is like
- 1:10:23filling a hole that you have in your
- 1:10:25life. I hate to say it, but that's
- 1:10:26really what it is. We all have a if you
- 1:10:28collect something, we have a hole uh in
- 1:10:31our lives that is missing something.
- 1:10:33Collecting things that we enjoy fills
- 1:10:35that hole. That that's what it's all
- 1:10:37about. But before we go any further, I
- 1:10:38want to give a big shout out to Heritan.
- 1:10:40Not only because he says he's been
- 1:10:42there, man. Got to not let these kinds
- 1:10:44of circumstances keep you from enjoying
- 1:10:46life. Glad you got that book. Like
- 1:10:48that's what makes this community so so
- 1:10:50great because
- 1:10:51>> we all support each other, man. We're in
- 1:10:53this together. We know what we've been
- 1:10:54through. We know what we're going to go
- 1:10:55through and we're here for each other.
- 1:10:57And on the back of that,
- 1:10:58>> the dude just sends me a $100 Canadian
- 1:11:01super chat. Dude, thank you so much.
- 1:11:04He's a huge supporter of the channel.
- 1:11:06So, thank you so much, Huran, man. You
- 1:11:08are the [ __ ] man. I know that. You've
- 1:11:10been a friend for for the past year or
- 1:11:12so since we've met. So, I really
- 1:11:13appreciate you, brother. You're [ __ ]
- 1:11:15awesome.
- 1:11:17>> I don't know how I could thumbs up
- 1:11:18people on the chat. Lawrence, let me
- 1:11:20know.
- 1:11:20>> I don't I don't know if you can. No, as
- 1:11:22as a guest, you can.
- 1:11:24>> All right.
- 1:11:25You know, thanks for everyone for
- 1:11:26joining too, man. You know, just I love
- 1:11:28talking shop.
- 1:11:29>> Yeah. I mean, I haven't had Doro on
- 1:11:30here. So, like five, what has it been
- 1:11:32five years since you've been on the
- 1:11:33channel, and it wasn't for long.
- 1:11:34>> Mhm.
- 1:11:36>> So, Ohham says, "You guys think that
- 1:11:38modern collecting anything is about what
- 1:11:40what it will be worth tomorrow or
- 1:11:42because of preserving history?" So, he's
- 1:11:45not talking about modern books. He's
- 1:11:46saying collecting in general. Is it
- 1:11:47about what it what it's going to be
- 1:11:48worth tomorrow or because of preserving
- 1:11:50history? I'll let you start first on
- 1:11:53that. Well, I mean
- 1:11:56[snorts]
- 1:11:57it it's kind of weird perspective
- 1:12:00because like right now I think the
- 1:12:02economy is going to force people to
- 1:12:04sell, right? I think that's what's
- 1:12:06happened over the last couple of years.
- 1:12:08Number two, a lot of people are going to
- 1:12:11pass their collections on, right? You
- 1:12:13know, so if you're, you know, so there
- 1:12:15may be a glut of of collections, but you
- 1:12:18know, it may be it may not be as much
- 1:12:20golden. it's gonna, you know, it might
- 1:12:22be more that 70s, 80s, 90s kind of thing
- 1:12:25there, but um
- 1:12:29if you're buying stuff now,
- 1:12:32I I don't know there's if there's a ton
- 1:12:34of upside, and I'm not trying to be
- 1:12:36pessimistic, but like remember when
- 1:12:39there were movie announcements coming
- 1:12:40out and teasers and then everyone would
- 1:12:42go out and buy that that book. you'd go
- 1:12:44to eBay and then immediately a $20 book
- 1:12:47became a $100 book and you just saw all
- 1:12:48greens of $1, $120 and this and that.
- 1:12:51So, I would say that, you know, there's
- 1:12:52going to be there's a little bit of
- 1:12:55upside if you're looking to sell. Like
- 1:12:57right now, I look at what I have in the
- 1:12:59in my box here as value, right? And I
- 1:13:02tell my son all the time, I'm like,
- 1:13:03"Hey, when I'm gone, this is this is for
- 1:13:05you." And no fire sales. I'm like, "When
- 1:13:08you know, if I'm gone, you call Lawrence
- 1:13:09and he'll tell you what what it's worth,
- 1:13:11you know?" So, so you get value of what
- 1:13:13I have here. But, you know,
- 1:13:15>> that means you assume that you're going
- 1:13:16to die before me.
- 1:13:17>> Well, I don't know. We'll we'll have to
- 1:13:19we'll have to draw straws. [laughter]
- 1:13:21But, uh, you know, no, but like looking
- 1:13:24in my box brings me joy. You know, just
- 1:13:27I have a hard day at work and I look at
- 1:13:29a book and I and you know, I I know
- 1:13:31again this is all silly, but like I
- 1:13:32can't believe I have that book. And, you
- 1:13:35know, it just it's, you know, quote
- 1:13:37unquote my prized possession. I mean,
- 1:13:39like one of my dreams was to own like a
- 1:13:4168 Camaro, you know, and I'm like, "All
- 1:13:44right, well, that's a 25 $35,000 car."
- 1:13:46And I'm like, "You know what? [ __ ] the
- 1:13:48car." Like, I love the books. I've
- 1:13:50always loved comics. And but again,
- 1:13:53these have value, you know? So, even if
- 1:13:55I paid overpaid for some of these books,
- 1:13:58which I did on a lot of them, but you
- 1:14:00know, like all these books that I'm
- 1:14:02buying now, they're $200 books. They're
- 1:14:03not completely ridiculous, but they'll
- 1:14:06still always have a little bit of value,
- 1:14:08you know, to me. But I'm not not I'm
- 1:14:10personally not looking at them as like
- 1:14:12this is going to be a flip to make some
- 1:14:14money, you know. So,
- 1:14:16>> I I think I think that I don't collect
- 1:14:19books to
- 1:14:22think about what they're going to be
- 1:14:23worth in the future. I just don't do
- 1:14:25that. I think there was a time to do
- 1:14:27that. like when we got into like 2020
- 1:14:302021 like even 2019 like you could buy a
- 1:14:34book and then flip it like within a year
- 1:14:35and make good amount of money.
- 1:14:37>> I after that time like 2021 I only
- 1:14:41that's when I downsized my collection
- 1:14:43like the only reason I buy stuff now is
- 1:14:45because of nostalgia because I had an
- 1:14:48affinity for it growing up. So I don't
- 1:14:50really think it's preserving history and
- 1:14:52I definitely don't think it's because
- 1:14:53what it's going to be worth tomorrow. I
- 1:14:55think it's if you're a collector now,
- 1:14:58and I use the word collector because
- 1:14:59you're not a flipper. If you're a
- 1:15:00flipper that you can talk about what
- 1:15:02it's worth tomorrow, I'm not that
- 1:15:03person. I don't think a lot of people
- 1:15:04are that person who we're probably in
- 1:15:06this chat. There's probably a few are,
- 1:15:08which is fine. You know, you know, be a
- 1:15:10capitalist, try to make money. I'm all
- 1:15:12for that. But at the same time, like,
- 1:15:14it's about you and it's about what you
- 1:15:16want and it's about what makes you feel
- 1:15:17good and what fills that hole that that
- 1:15:19you have in your life. For me, it was
- 1:15:21just trying to bring back the things
- 1:15:22that like I felt that when I was a kid
- 1:15:24that I really really enjoyed. So, it's
- 1:15:27it's you say preserving history, I'm
- 1:15:29talking about preserving me. Like that's
- 1:15:31what these things mean to me. It's about
- 1:15:33preserving me, if that makes sense,
- 1:15:35right? [clears throat]
- 1:15:37>> Yeah. No, for sure.
- 1:15:39>> Izzy says he loves The Dark Knight
- 1:15:41Returns, but he really loves Year One.
- 1:15:43Uh DMR in that book says noir beauty. I
- 1:15:46agree. I I loved year one as well, but
- 1:15:47again that story to me had been told in
- 1:15:49like you know a bunch and Frank Miller
- 1:15:52Frank Miller back then he was the goat
- 1:15:54back then in my in my opinion in that
- 1:15:5680s time frame. I don't think anybody
- 1:15:58was better than Frank Miller. So um I
- 1:16:00just really love the Dark Knight Returns
- 1:16:02and I really wasn't a fan of Carrie
- 1:16:04Kelly.
- 1:16:05>> But outside of that um just returns
- 1:16:08really got me.
- 1:16:12Uh Helmouth, what's going on brother? He
- 1:16:13says, "I've been trying to get a
- 1:16:14Daredevil one to 100 slab run together
- 1:16:17for years. I know what you're talking
- 1:16:20about. We will always be missing
- 1:16:21something." Yeah. I mean,
- 1:16:23>> I mean, I'll let you speak on this
- 1:16:24because you're you're you have that FF
- 1:16:25run. I have the ASM run. So, like
- 1:16:28>> the one thing I'll say is like the runs
- 1:16:30are the hardest thing to do, especially
- 1:16:32when you're trying to, you know, do like
- 1:16:34silver age runs because that shit's
- 1:16:36expensive, right, man? Like the silver
- 1:16:38age stuff is expensive. Even like the
- 1:16:39the shittiest nonkey is not cheap.
- 1:16:43Mhm. Yeah. I mean,
- 1:16:47I been buying them like cherry-picking
- 1:16:49at a time, you know? So,
- 1:16:52like there is the FOMO part of it, but
- 1:16:54like the Hey, Izzy. What's up, buddy?
- 1:16:55>> What's up, guys?
- 1:16:56>> Hey. I mean, there's like just remember
- 1:16:58this as well. If you follow Heritage
- 1:17:01every week, comic link every week, like
- 1:17:05you'll look, if you're looking to get a
- 1:17:0796 or 98 of every issue, sure, then
- 1:17:10that's going to take you a really long
- 1:17:11time. But if you're like, "Hey, you know
- 1:17:12what? But I want something five and up.
- 1:17:14You're, you know, you'll be able to kind
- 1:17:16of, you know, fill that run. And I don't
- 1:17:17want to say pretty quickly because
- 1:17:19honestly, I don't know how many people
- 1:17:21have
- 1:17:22slam daredevils from like number 50 to
- 1:17:25100.
- 1:17:26>> Right.
- 1:17:26>> Well, I I'll ask I'll ask the person who
- 1:17:29asked it, John. Oh, not not John. Who is
- 1:17:33it? Helmouth. Who said like why does it
- 1:17:35have to be slabbed? Like like is there a
- 1:17:37reason it it has to be slabbed? The only
- 1:17:39thing because you could probably get
- 1:17:40these books on the cheap if you bought
- 1:17:42them raw,
- 1:17:43>> right?
- 1:17:43>> That that's that's what I did because I
- 1:17:44didn't want to spend the crazy amount of
- 1:17:46money on slabs and also like the storage
- 1:17:48for slabs is, you know, it takes they
- 1:17:50take up so much room as compared to sl
- 1:17:52as compared to to raws that I I I'd
- 1:17:54rather go raw. But that's just me like
- 1:17:56collecting, you know, do what you want.
- 1:17:58But I asked why slabed helmouth, let us
- 1:18:00know.
- 1:18:02>> Is he all right, brother? All I hear is
- 1:18:04like stuff going on in the background.
- 1:18:06Yeah, [laughter] I'm just I'm just
- 1:18:07gathering some things, man.
- 1:18:09>> He's putting his seatelt on. [laughter]
- 1:18:12>> I am putting my seatelt on, right?
- 1:18:15>> Um, interesting question about slab or
- 1:18:17not to slab. I slab that that I think
- 1:18:20deserves to be slabbed. If that's if
- 1:18:22that's a good way of looking at it,
- 1:18:24>> right? So, I look at a book,
- 1:18:28it has to have it has to meet one of two
- 1:18:30factors. Maybe there's a third one that
- 1:18:32I can't think of, but it has to be one a
- 1:18:34key that's worth slabbing,
- 1:18:37which means it has to be a book that you
- 1:18:41know you need to preserve it, right? An
- 1:18:43FF1 for example, or you know, things
- 1:18:47like that, right? Or
- 1:18:49>> if it has a sentimental value to me,
- 1:18:53>> just to have it, not to not to open it
- 1:18:55up or things like that or stuff like
- 1:18:57that. So, I do have a book here. I have
- 1:18:59a few books that are slabed, but they're
- 1:19:00slabed for my purposes. You know what I
- 1:19:03mean? Especially if if it's a art, if
- 1:19:04it's one of the pieces that I drew, I
- 1:19:06like to have my artwork slab because
- 1:19:08that's the important part of the book to
- 1:19:10me. You know what I mean? Stuff like
- 1:19:11that. But if it's like a personal item,
- 1:19:13then yeah, sure, I'll slab it. But, but
- 1:19:16to keep in mind, folks, anybody
- 1:19:18listening out there, slabbing will only
- 1:19:20give you monetary value. Some people
- 1:19:23prefer slabs, and that's 100% fine.
- 1:19:24Like, I'm not saying you shouldn't slab
- 1:19:26because you should. I have slabs as
- 1:19:27well. So, you know, I'm not saying that.
- 1:19:29But all slabbing does is give you a
- 1:19:32definitive value for your book. Now,
- 1:19:34artwork is a different story. Is he
- 1:19:36slabs artwork? Because he's an artist
- 1:19:37and he does commissions and stuff like
- 1:19:39that. So, slabbing or work is totally
- 1:19:40different. So, I understand that. But if
- 1:19:42we're just talking about a straight
- 1:19:43comic, it's just assigning value if
- 1:19:46that's why you're doing it. Unless it's
- 1:19:47just preference. If your preference is
- 1:19:48just to have slabs, that's a different
- 1:19:50story. But we have a question from Solar
- 1:19:53Reaper. says, "Are newer books still
- 1:19:55newstands or are they called something
- 1:19:57else?" Uh, I don't know. There aren't
- 1:20:00too many news stands now. I'll let I'll
- 1:20:01defer this to Izzy because he knows
- 1:20:03better than me. Yeah, it doesn't. Right.
- 1:20:06>> So, newsstands died in the I want to say
- 1:20:10the early 2000s. Um, so if if you have a
- 1:20:13newsstand from a news stand book from
- 1:20:15the 2000s,
- 1:20:17>> that actually has significant value as
- 1:20:19opposed to the the regular. Uh that
- 1:20:22doesn't mean much, you know, to to some
- 1:20:24people. Like I obviously some people
- 1:20:26care about the news stand, some people
- 1:20:27don't. Um but that's where it actually
- 1:20:30matters the most. Um news stands in the
- 1:20:3470s and the early 80s, they they're
- 1:20:37about the same price. Um sometimes they
- 1:20:40get they demand a little bit more
- 1:20:41because of the treatment of it all. You
- 1:20:43know what I mean? Um
- 1:20:46it's how they were treated. So, you
- 1:20:47know, a news stand book was treated
- 1:20:50>> like it was in a newsstand, you know
- 1:20:51what I mean? Um, and that's why there
- 1:20:53could be a little bit of rarity to it.
- 1:20:55Um,
- 1:20:56>> not that there is much rarity to it.
- 1:20:59>> Um, but it it really after the 90s,
- 1:21:02that's when the news stands became a
- 1:21:05thing, a bigger thing. And again, it's
- 1:21:07it's a it's a way um it's a way the
- 1:21:10marketplace could say could make a
- 1:21:12differential. You know, same thing with,
- 1:21:14you know, I think Mark jewelers are
- 1:21:15probably more important than news stands
- 1:21:16versus
- 1:21:17>> Oh, yeah. For sure.
- 1:21:18>> Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Because
- 1:21:19of where there's also history involved
- 1:21:21in mark jewelers
- 1:21:22>> and stuff like that. So, there's a
- 1:21:24little bit of that going with the marks
- 1:21:25jewelers. But as far as the difference
- 1:21:27between a news stand versus a standard,
- 1:21:30>> I don't make much difference of it. I
- 1:21:32think there's only there's some books
- 1:21:33where the news stands matters more than
- 1:21:35others, but honestly, personally
- 1:21:38speaking, everything to pretty much
- 1:21:40everything has a barcode now. So
- 1:21:43>> yeah,
- 1:21:43>> that's you know what I mean? There's no
- 1:21:44difference.
- 1:21:46>> Polarmo, what is going on, my friend? I
- 1:21:48haven't purchased Absolute Batman. It
- 1:21:50will likely price correct, but it could
- 1:21:52bring in new Batman collectors, which is
- 1:21:54good for us who have been collecting for
- 1:21:5550 plus years. I don't want to say it
- 1:21:57already has brought in
- 1:21:59>> uh newer collectors. There's no question
- 1:22:00in my mind. Like I I haven't seen
- 1:22:03anything this hot and I know Izzy could
- 1:22:04touch on this because he does covers a
- 1:22:06lot of modern stuff. I haven't I haven't
- 1:22:08seen anything this hot in in all my
- 1:22:11years of collecting how hot this thing
- 1:22:12is.
- 1:22:13>> Yeah. The only comparison, and I've said
- 1:22:14this countless times, the comparison I
- 1:22:16give to it is Ultimate Spider-Man, the
- 1:22:18first Ultimate Spider-Man from the 2000s
- 1:22:20where that started something new. That's
- 1:22:23why brought in a lot of new people into
- 1:22:25it because it was a fresh take on
- 1:22:27Spider-Man without it. It it updated the
- 1:22:30origin. This one didn't really update
- 1:22:32the origin. It kind of like flipped it
- 1:22:35across its head. But I think what
- 1:22:37happened with Absolute was it was a
- 1:22:40fresh take on Batman. It is an it's an
- 1:22:43elseworld. Let's call it what it is.
- 1:22:45It's an Elseorld.
- 1:22:46>> Uh but it it because of Draot's I think
- 1:22:50Dragot's art more than s um Scott
- 1:22:53Snider's writing. I think it's their
- 1:22:55go's art that's what's capsulating
- 1:22:57people to do it because he has a very
- 1:22:59>> he has this distinct style that relates
- 1:23:02to the manga audience and the manga
- 1:23:05audience is coming in
- 1:23:07>> to it
- 1:23:08>> and that's what's causing it and I think
- 1:23:10that's kind of causing that same FOMO
- 1:23:11thing that's happening week over week
- 1:23:14with certain books especially Image
- 1:23:16books and Mad Cave books I'm starting to
- 1:23:17notice um where people are starting to
- 1:23:20gravitate towards those books because
- 1:23:21they're they're easy to get into you
- 1:23:24don't have a laundry list of history
- 1:23:27with them. And it's just to be honest
- 1:23:30with you, you know, especially with
- 1:23:31Marvel, um, which I hate to say it, but
- 1:23:33Marvel has dropped the ball in the last
- 1:23:35couple of years on how they treat their
- 1:23:37stories. DC, on the other hand, been
- 1:23:39working a little bit harder, but
- 1:23:41>> Marvel's been dropping the ball, man.
- 1:23:43And it's sad seeing it that way.
- 1:23:45>> Yeah. Run me through says I'm partial to
- 1:23:47newsstands because my pops was a manager
- 1:23:49for a grocery store and all the comics
- 1:23:52he bought my brother and I were off the
- 1:23:53magazine rack. Didn't have bags and
- 1:23:55boards until adulthood. I was the same
- 1:23:56way. Like my dad owned a pharmacy when I
- 1:23:58was a kid. So like
- 1:24:00>> he I've talked told the story many a
- 1:24:01time where like he would bring home
- 1:24:03comics for me and they were all new
- 1:24:04stands as well. But
- 1:24:06>> back as a kid like you didn't want the
- 1:24:07new stands. You wanted the one with like
- 1:24:09Spidey's head of the on the instead of
- 1:24:10the bar cooler, right? Like that's what
- 1:24:11you wanted.
- 1:24:13>> That's what you wanted. Yep. I was, you
- 1:24:15know, especially like the Mcfarlands,
- 1:24:17right? Because McFarland used to love
- 1:24:19doing the drawings. And the funny thing
- 1:24:21is that the news stands for the
- 1:24:22Mcfarllands are way more expensive than
- 1:24:24the ones that has his art because he art
- 1:24:27on it. Yep. The little venom head or
- 1:24:28whatever. Right.
- 1:24:29>> Yeah. He decided, I'm going to take
- 1:24:30advantage of this corner this little
- 1:24:32under corner box and have fun with it.
- 1:24:35So when the direct market came in,
- 1:24:37everybody was grabbing those books.
- 1:24:39Nobody wanted the new stands. And I
- 1:24:41think that's what caused the new stand
- 1:24:42rarity in those books because nobody
- 1:24:44actually wanted them for that time and
- 1:24:47now they want them. But I'll take a
- 1:24:50McFarland to wreck any day over a new
- 1:24:52sand just because it's cooler.
- 1:24:54>> Yeah. It's just a matter of what you're
- 1:24:56willing to pay for it because now like I
- 1:24:58see people paying still stupid money for
- 1:25:01like Spider-Man won the McFarland run.
- 1:25:03It's a $5 book is all the the amount of
- 1:25:05copies out there in any grade. I don't
- 1:25:06care what the grade is. It's a $5 book.
- 1:25:09>> Mhm. I have one. [laughter]
- 1:25:12>> Yeah,
- 1:25:12>> I have a few.
- 1:25:13>> Everybody has one.
- 1:25:16>> There's certain books that you must have
- 1:25:17in your collection. Spider-Man number
- 1:25:19one, X Force number one, X-Men X X-Men
- 1:25:23number one, the Jim Lee X-Men.
- 1:25:26>> You have to have all
- 1:25:28>> and you have to have No, you have to
- 1:25:29have all five of them because you have
- 1:25:30to get the edition, right?
- 1:25:33>> Yeah.
- 1:25:34>> I don't I don't have the collector's
- 1:25:36edition to be honest with you. But like
- 1:25:38uh the four Yeah, the the four everybody
- 1:25:40has.
- 1:25:41>> Yeah, I have I got the four. And what
- 1:25:43was nice about those variants was what
- 1:25:45they did they it wasn't like today that
- 1:25:48they all released them in the same in
- 1:25:49the same week. Those four was being if I
- 1:25:52remember correctly they were being
- 1:25:54released each week.
- 1:25:56>> So the first week the first week you got
- 1:25:58the first piece and then the following
- 1:26:00week you had so you had to return to the
- 1:26:02shop to get it and that drive the price.
- 1:26:06So, and the last one was obviously the
- 1:26:08Magneto. And then came the what they
- 1:26:11called the collector edition.
- 1:26:14>> Murf, what's going on, brother?
- 1:26:16>> How are you? Another guy who set up at
- 1:26:18King Kong. How you doing, brother? How
- 1:26:19are you? Um, what did you think of King
- 1:26:21Kan? Izzy.
- 1:26:22>> Um, that's what I was That's why I
- 1:26:24stopped by.
- 1:26:26Um, I'll tell you what I think of King
- 1:26:28Kong. This is what I thought of King
- 1:26:31Kong. [laughter]
- 1:26:34>> All right. So,
- 1:26:35>> there you go. Show show us. I know. I
- 1:26:37know. I spoke to you briefly at the show
- 1:26:38about what you picked up, but you didn't
- 1:26:40show me. So, let's go ahead and and show
- 1:26:42us. But before you do that, I have to
- 1:26:44>> big shout out to Jay knows the way 1462
- 1:26:47for the $20 super chat. Jay, thank you
- 1:26:49so much. This would have been $100, but
- 1:26:51easy [laughter] showed up.
- 1:26:54>> Uhoh. Degraded.
- 1:26:56>> I have so much hate, man. People just
- 1:26:58love to hate me.
- 1:26:59>> No, he's breaking he's breaking the
- 1:27:01chops.
- 1:27:01>> No, but everybody knows I I'm that guy
- 1:27:03that can handle that kind of stuff. So,
- 1:27:05I'm okay with that. Everybody knows
- 1:27:06that. I love I love busting people's
- 1:27:08stuff.
- 1:27:08>> I know, right?
- 1:27:09>> So, show us what you got. Show us what
- 1:27:10you got.
- 1:27:11>> So, I So, pretty much everything I
- 1:27:13picked up is what I consider a banger
- 1:27:15because now I do collect for I collect
- 1:27:18more for fun than anything, but I do
- 1:27:20like picking up a a key here and there.
- 1:27:23So, there was a few books that I picked
- 1:27:24up that were funsies and there was a few
- 1:27:26books that I thought were amazing for
- 1:27:28the price. So, I'll start with this one
- 1:27:30is Avengers 181. This the first Scott
- 1:27:33Lang. So, I picked this. Um, he we were
- 1:27:36talking about
- 1:27:38>> Do you remember who you got them from?
- 1:27:40If you could shout them out as well,
- 1:27:41that'd be great.
- 1:27:41>> Actually, I can't remember everybody,
- 1:27:43but I did get this one from Oh, man. I
- 1:27:47forget his name. So, when you walked
- 1:27:49when you walked into the the ballroom,
- 1:27:52he had the he had the big the big aisle.
- 1:27:56Well, he was like the first guy in that
- 1:27:59was on the left hand side. I think it
- 1:28:00was Jared or something like that.
- 1:28:02>> Gerard. Yeah, Gerard. Okay,
- 1:28:04>> Gerard. It was Gerard. So, I got this
- 1:28:05one from Gerard. Um, I can't say
- 1:28:08everybody cuz I don't remember
- 1:28:09everybody, but the ones I remember, I'll
- 1:28:12remember. I also got You were talking
- 1:28:14about Batman.
- 1:28:15>> I got a Batman year one.
- 1:28:17>> Nice.
- 1:28:18>> This was I got this. It says here 15,
- 1:28:21but I got this for five bucks.
- 1:28:25>> That I remember. This I got from um Very
- 1:28:28Gary um which is
- 1:28:31>> the first
- 1:28:32>> Yes. So I remember I was standing right
- 1:28:33next to you when you were talking about
- 1:28:35that. All right. Yeah.
- 1:28:36>> I got this one for Very Gary. This is
- 1:28:38another one that I'm not sure who I got
- 1:28:39it from, but it's the Peter Porker
- 1:28:42number one.
- 1:28:42>> Oh, that's cool.
- 1:28:44>> Yeah. So, that's a fun book. Another one
- 1:28:46that I got I must have gotten these
- 1:28:49Yeah, these I think I got it from 360.
- 1:28:51Um 360
- 1:28:53>> from my boy Joe.
- 1:28:55>> Yeah. So, I think this little stack here
- 1:28:57I got from him. Um, and all of these
- 1:28:59were five bucks. So, I got Avengers 223,
- 1:29:04iconic
- 1:29:05>> classic cover. Joe had a Joe had a good
- 1:29:07mix. He had Golden Age and then he had
- 1:29:09some
- 1:29:10>> some everything.
- 1:29:11>> Talking about books that everybody
- 1:29:12should have in their collection.
- 1:29:15>> We we we failed to mention this one.
- 1:29:18>> Oh, yeah. Wow.
- 1:29:19>> I think everybody does have that already
- 1:29:21in their collection.
- 1:29:23>> Yeah. I have the bagged version. I have
- 1:29:26two bagged and I have one of these. So,
- 1:29:28I decided to pick this one up because I
- 1:29:30don't like I I only have one of these.
- 1:29:32>> But five bucks.
- 1:29:35>> Yeah.
- 1:29:35>> Not bad for
- 1:29:36>> the auctions coming up for the original
- 1:29:38artwork.
- 1:29:39>> Oh, all the pages. I can't believe I saw
- 1:29:42that.
- 1:29:42>> You see that?
- 1:29:44>> I saw all the all pretty much all the
- 1:29:46pages.
- 1:29:46>> Metropolis.
- 1:29:47>> It's insane. [snorts]
- 1:29:48Just looking at for super
- 1:29:50>> got the Superman the original
- 1:29:53pieces like all of that because they're
- 1:29:56all literally splash pages. Every page
- 1:29:59>> why why now though? Why are they putting
- 1:30:00that up now? That's my my question.
- 1:30:02>> The real question who had the
- 1:30:04collection. Did Dan have the collection
- 1:30:05decide to let it go? Did did a did
- 1:30:08somebody had the collection decide it
- 1:30:10was time?
- 1:30:11>> You know, there's there's a lot there's
- 1:30:12a lot of variables to that. Um, is it a
- 1:30:15good time to buy and sell Superman
- 1:30:17property because of the movie came out
- 1:30:19and then you had these action comics and
- 1:30:22and Superman number one selling for the
- 1:30:24prices? So,
- 1:30:25>> you know, so I think it could be a
- 1:30:27little bit of everything.
- 1:30:28>> Um,
- 1:30:29>> I got a Spawn 50. That was nice.
- 1:30:32>> That's another $5 book.
- 1:30:34>> Now, you talk about nostalgia. I got
- 1:30:37this one because I just thought this
- 1:30:39cover was awesome and then I realized
- 1:30:40what this cover was a paying homage to.
- 1:30:43That's the Justice League.
- 1:30:44>> Oh, that's cool.
- 1:30:46>> So, you know what?
- 1:30:46>> What is that? The freaking uh
- 1:30:48Poltergeist.
- 1:30:49>> No, it's Exorcist.
- 1:30:50>> Well, that's what I meant. That's
- 1:30:51Exorcist. That's what I meant.
- 1:30:53>> The other one. The other movie.
- 1:30:54>> Yeah. [laughter] Yeah.
- 1:30:56>> Another I've never seen that. I've never
- 1:30:59seen that.
- 1:30:59>> Well, it was one I've seen it before and
- 1:31:01I kind of forgot about it. And it's
- 1:31:03Justice League of America issue 27.
- 1:31:07>> But it it is pretty cool that they did
- 1:31:09this with a Justice League comic book.
- 1:31:10You know, you can expect it for like a
- 1:31:11Vertigo maybe, but not for a Justice
- 1:31:13League.
- 1:31:14>> So, I thought that was pretty
- 1:31:15interesting. I also got the first
- 1:31:18>> Brother Blood from the Teen Titans.
- 1:31:20Another $5 book. Um,
- 1:31:23>> were these all wall books or were they
- 1:31:24in the bins?
- 1:31:25>> No, these were all in the bins. These
- 1:31:27were the those specific books, those
- 1:31:29books I just showed you. I got it from
- 1:31:30360. Um, and he had them for five bucks.
- 1:31:34And and I've picked up books from him
- 1:31:35like that before, too, where he's like,
- 1:31:37"Yeah, I'm just giving them away." He's
- 1:31:39p it's like practically giving them
- 1:31:41away, right?
- 1:31:41>> When you sell them for like five bucks,
- 1:31:43it's that's like the new dollar bid.
- 1:31:45>> You know, dollar bids don't exist like
- 1:31:47they used to, man, because you know,
- 1:31:49>> you can't it's inflation.
- 1:31:52All right. Um then there's this again
- 1:31:54another one I can't rem like there was a
- 1:31:57lot of guys here and there that was
- 1:31:58doing things. They didn't really have a
- 1:32:00name attached to them, so I just picked
- 1:32:01them up and it was um this Avengers 33
- 1:32:05um 33. This is a spec book because of
- 1:32:08the whole
- 1:32:09>> Well, it's a Delato, but it's also a
- 1:32:11spec book because of the incursions.
- 1:32:14>> Yeah, it's a Doom cover, incursions, all
- 1:32:17that stuff.
- 1:32:18>> Here's another spec book because they
- 1:32:19they optioned the they optioned the show
- 1:32:22option, I think, for a show or a movie.
- 1:32:24And this four kids walk into a bank.
- 1:32:27This is one of those indie books. Oh,
- 1:32:29wow.
- 1:32:29>> I heard about that. I heard about that.
- 1:32:31That they're going to option.
- 1:32:32>> It was funny. So when he got optioned,
- 1:32:34this book went as high as like 30, 40
- 1:32:36bucks, right? I got this for a five.
- 1:32:43>> You know what I mean?
- 1:32:44>> Yeah.
- 1:32:44>> Here's another fun book talking about
- 1:32:45absolute Batman. Um, this was a cool
- 1:32:48one. It's not an absolute, but it is an
- 1:32:50Elseorld.
- 1:32:53>> I love this cover.
- 1:32:55>> I had that when I was growing up. So So
- 1:32:57Murf said that was that was his his book
- 1:32:58that you picked up.
- 1:32:59>> Oh, okay. Good. Well, thanks, Murf. Like
- 1:33:01like I said, I can't remember everybody,
- 1:33:02so I'm sorry. Uh I have to apologize. I
- 1:33:05can't remember everybody. [snorts]
- 1:33:07I'm an old guy.
- 1:33:09[laughter]
- 1:33:10I did also get a blank. I got a new gods
- 1:33:12blank.
- 1:33:14I might already have this commissioned
- 1:33:16out for somebody. And I got this from I
- 1:33:19got this from Zap, believe it or not. I
- 1:33:21went to Zap Comics, too, afterwards.
- 1:33:23>> So So here you go. I was at Zap on
- 1:33:25earlier this week and I picked up a
- 1:33:27bunch of blank covers for uh my buddy
- 1:33:30Jyn. I don't know if you guys know he
- 1:33:32came on and he did a bunch of art on the
- 1:33:34channel. We're probably going to do it
- 1:33:35at the end of this month as well. So, I
- 1:33:37know you're artist as well. So, I picked
- 1:33:38up like 15 to 20 blank covers for him at
- 1:33:41Zap and that was one of them as well.
- 1:33:43>> Yeah, Zap has some good ones. So, I
- 1:33:44picked up that one. I also picked up a
- 1:33:46Batman RIP cover that I thought was
- 1:33:49pretty cool.
- 1:33:50>> Um this one was another one I picked up.
- 1:33:53Now, he was opposite Jared. So, that's
- 1:33:55where I got this one. Um, and that was
- 1:33:58Star Slayer. First Rocketeer.
- 1:34:00>> Okay.
- 1:34:02>> Right.
- 1:34:03>> I would I wouldn't even have known that
- 1:34:04it was the first Rocketeer. How How much
- 1:34:06is that?
- 1:34:08>> 20 bucks.
- 1:34:09>> Oh, okay.
- 1:34:10>> Okay. Yeah. I was going to say there's
- 1:34:11no way. First Rocketeer is five bucks.
- 1:34:13There's no way.
- 1:34:14>> Yeah. Imagine.
- 1:34:16>> But the way you know is if you if you go
- 1:34:18back here.
- 1:34:19>> Oh, wow.
- 1:34:20>> There. There it is.
- 1:34:22>> Mhm. What issue is that?
- 1:34:24>> This is Star Slayer issue two.
- 1:34:26>> Show it again. Show the cover so the
- 1:34:28people out there so they know
- 1:34:29>> because I wouldn't have known that
- 1:34:30either unless you just showed it. So
- 1:34:32yeah. All right.
- 1:34:33>> So this,
- 1:34:36you know, Dave Stevens love
- 1:34:38>> um $20 and it's a really good condition.
- 1:34:41This again, this is one of those books
- 1:34:42I'll get slabbed.
- 1:34:44>> Sure.
- 1:34:44>> Um and here's another one that I got
- 1:34:47this I think I might have got this from
- 1:34:49Mary Gary, but I'm not sure. But
- 1:34:53it's the
- 1:34:54>> Oh, yeah. Yeah,
- 1:34:54>> you did because that was one of the ones
- 1:34:56I was standing next to you talking to
- 1:34:57you when you were doing it. Yeah.
- 1:34:59>> So, I might take this to Jim Starland.
- 1:35:02It It's a newsy, but it doesn't matter,
- 1:35:05>> right? It's nice.
- 1:35:08>> So, that's some of the stuff I got
- 1:35:10there. I also picked up a couple of
- 1:35:13slabs here and there. Um, one slab
- 1:35:15you're familiar with, I'm sure.
- 1:35:18Uh
- 1:35:18>> oh.
- 1:35:19>> So, let me see if I can grab it here.
- 1:35:21So, here's one that I grabbed.
- 1:35:25>> Oh, somebody told me he was talking
- 1:35:26Daredevil.
- 1:35:28>> Yeah.
- 1:35:28>> Mhm.
- 1:35:29>> I kept saying the first Daredevil and I
- 1:35:31kept me and I meant to say the first
- 1:35:32bullseye. So, and this is a book that
- 1:35:35I've always wanted to have, but I never
- 1:35:37put it on like a list to get because I
- 1:35:39always think it was out of my reach at
- 1:35:40times.
- 1:35:41>> Mhm. You know how certain books feel you
- 1:35:43feel like they're out of your reach, but
- 1:35:45the price was impossible to pass.
- 1:35:48>> Yeah.
- 1:35:49>> Right.
- 1:35:49>> You know,
- 1:35:50>> and all those have come down a lot,
- 1:35:52>> you know, the first electron,
- 1:35:55>> right?
- 1:35:56>> Yeah. I got this from Chimmo. Chimmo was
- 1:35:59sent was doing it. So, he was like,
- 1:36:02so I was like I immediately just bought
- 1:36:03it from him. So, he gave me a great
- 1:36:05price on the book. Like, again, couldn't
- 1:36:08pass it up. Um, let me see if I can find
- 1:36:10the other ones here.
- 1:36:12>> You had a lot. You had a [snorts]
- 1:36:15>> He bought a lot of stuff. So, people,
- 1:36:16you know,
- 1:36:18>> Yeah. He was He was there early, but
- 1:36:22like I'll tell you how
- 1:36:23>> I opened the doors pretty much.
- 1:36:26>> Yeah. So, I got this one. This is the
- 1:36:27first Silver Sable.
- 1:36:28>> Silver Sable. Yep.
- 1:36:30>> Now, take a wild guess what I paid for
- 1:36:33this book.
- 1:36:35It's a 7.5. So it's not, you know, it's
- 1:36:37not 98
- 1:36:3925 bucks.
- 1:36:41>> Close. Very close.
- 1:36:4330.
- 1:36:45>> All right. It's still still worth it. A
- 1:36:47slab.
- 1:36:47>> Cost a slab.
- 1:36:49>> It cost more than it costs more slab
- 1:36:51now.
- 1:36:51>> Yeah. Now it costs more with the ship if
- 1:36:52you count shipping and all that stuff.
- 1:36:54>> Yeah.
- 1:36:54>> But I saw first appearance of Silver
- 1:36:57Sable. She's one of those characters
- 1:36:58that maybe someday, right? Who knows?
- 1:37:03And it's like it's an old enough book
- 1:37:06that it's probably worth it. You know
- 1:37:08what I mean?
- 1:37:09>> So why not? And I know I got this from
- 1:37:12So you know how before you get into when
- 1:37:14before you got into King Kong, there was
- 1:37:16like an area where you you make the
- 1:37:18line.
- 1:37:19>> Yeah.
- 1:37:19>> And there was these guys. It was one of
- 1:37:21those guys. So that's where I got
- 1:37:23>> Humble Comics.
- 1:37:24>> Yeah. There's a guy Humble.
- 1:37:26>> Yeah. That's the He was set up all the
- 1:37:28way on the back wall there. Yeah.
- 1:37:29>> Yeah. He was set up in the back wall.
- 1:37:31So, there was those were that one. Those
- 1:37:34were the two slabs I got. And of course,
- 1:37:38I got the other one that's hanging back
- 1:37:40there.
- 1:37:41>> Yes.
- 1:37:41>> That I'm pointing to right there.
- 1:37:44>> The 101.
- 1:37:46>> The 101. Okay.
- 1:37:47>> He got he got that from me from the
- 1:37:49collection that I a buddy of mine was
- 1:37:51was getting out of comics.
- 1:37:52>> So, I put it right next to the Jubilee.
- 1:37:56And and you can't it's kind of hard to
- 1:37:57see it, but there's no there's little
- 1:38:00figurines right on right next to them
- 1:38:02and right in front of them. So I got the
- 1:38:04little figurines. So I had to get that
- 1:38:06because as I told you, I named my
- 1:38:07daughter Phoenix.
- 1:38:09>> So now I So what one of my daughters is
- 1:38:11Phoenix, the other one's Jubilee. So now
- 1:38:13I got their I got both of their first
- 1:38:14appearances.
- 1:38:16>> Your your daughter's really name is
- 1:38:17Jubilee.
- 1:38:19>> Her name is Jubilation.
- 1:38:21>> Oh, that's right. You did tell me that
- 1:38:22one at the time. You did tell me that. I
- 1:38:24gave her the full name. [laughter]
- 1:38:26>> I was like, screw that. I'm giving her
- 1:38:28the full name. We call it Jubilee, of
- 1:38:30course. Um, and Shauna Rain 8605 says,
- 1:38:34"Mighty Thomas and Collectibles is a
- 1:38:35legend. Nothing but love for Nebraska."
- 1:38:38Brother, you're the legend. Thank you so
- 1:38:41much. You are the legend for watching.
- 1:38:43Appreciate you, man. What were you
- 1:38:45saying? [snorts]
- 1:38:46>> No. So, yeah, I named I named That was a
- 1:38:48name. So, Jubilee was the first one. I
- 1:38:51had her name I had her name already
- 1:38:53scouted before me and my wife even
- 1:38:56started dating. In fact, my wife was
- 1:38:59going into the relationship knowing that
- 1:39:02if I ever have
- 1:39:04>> her,
- 1:39:06>> how did your wife take that? Like like
- 1:39:08>> you know, come on. How did you Yeah,
- 1:39:10>> she loved it. She So, for a lot of
- 1:39:12people don't may not know this, there's
- 1:39:13no real moment of me and my wife
- 1:39:15meeting. So you could technically say me
- 1:39:18and my wife met when she was born
- 1:39:20>> because we grew up in church together.
- 1:39:23>> Okay. And crazy sto crazy story. I love
- 1:39:27telling people this part. I held her as
- 1:39:29a baby at the age of three.
- 1:39:33>> How old were you?
- 1:39:34>> I said three. At the age of three. I was
- 1:39:36three. She was she was a baby.
- 1:39:38>> Okay.
- 1:39:39>> So how did you hold her at three?
- 1:39:40>> So I held her in my hand. my my mom and
- 1:39:44her mom were like, "Okay, you want to
- 1:39:45hold the baby?" And I was like, "Yeah,
- 1:39:46hold the baby." And I just, you know,
- 1:39:47hold the baby just for a couple of
- 1:39:49seconds. And I do remember that. As
- 1:39:50crazy as it sounds, I do remember that.
- 1:39:52But I would have never told I, you know,
- 1:39:54of course, never in my wildest dream
- 1:39:56would have said this is going to be my
- 1:39:57wife. You know what I mean? But
- 1:39:59[laughter] that's that's a little cute
- 1:40:00story that people say like, "What?" You
- 1:40:03know, I have to I I also have to preface
- 1:40:04it by saying I was three before anybody
- 1:40:07[laughter] says anything,
- 1:40:09>> right? When she was three, right? No,
- 1:40:12[laughter] no, no.
- 1:40:13>> She was when she was born, I was was
- 1:40:16three.
- 1:40:17>> So, so that's thing. But yeah, um so
- 1:40:20during that time we got to we knew each
- 1:40:22other from church. We we did our thing.
- 1:40:24I I dated elsewhere other people. She
- 1:40:25dated other people and then we start
- 1:40:26started dating
- 1:40:28somehow. So it was something that she
- 1:40:30always knew like cuz I've everybody knew
- 1:40:33I was into comics back then too. So I
- 1:40:35was always into comics even at a young
- 1:40:36age. So everybody knew that that and I
- 1:40:39would say yeah if I ever have a kid I'm
- 1:40:40going to name him jupilation. and she
- 1:40:42knew that. So she w she got into the
- 1:40:44relationship knowing that.
- 1:40:46>> So
- 1:40:47>> Run Me says
- 1:40:48>> and know and she she named Phoenix.
- 1:40:52>> Uh Run Me through says your daughter is
- 1:40:53named Jubilation. My daughter is named
- 1:40:55Ilana. They're best friends now.
- 1:40:59>> Do you know him or do you know him or
- 1:41:00No.
- 1:41:02>> No, I don't know if I know. Run me
- 1:41:03through. So I have to actually know him.
- 1:41:06But my daughter my daughter's her
- 1:41:08choices of friends are very interesting
- 1:41:10to me. I gotta move up so the other
- 1:41:12camera can catch me.
- 1:41:14>> Yeah, I keep going in and out. I don't
- 1:41:15know why my [ __ ] camera goes It's
- 1:41:17freaking
- 1:41:19>> Well, it's because you got the vertical,
- 1:41:21right? The vertical.
- 1:41:23>> So, that's it. It's, you know, it's one
- 1:41:25of those things. And the there's there's
- 1:41:28the there's the Incredible Hulk right
- 1:41:30there. The one I was talking about,
- 1:41:32triple sign.
- 1:41:34>> Where'd you get that?
- 1:41:35>> That's that's knife fun book. And
- 1:41:36there's Mike Drake,
- 1:41:37>> right?
- 1:41:38Um, so that's that's funny you say that.
- 1:41:41That's that's one of my earliest comics
- 1:41:44>> that I ever ever got. I got it at a news
- 1:41:46stand.
- 1:41:47>> I bought that in a new stand. I I kept
- 1:41:50it and preserved it for years. Um, you
- 1:41:53know, to the best of my ability being a
- 1:41:5612-year-old. Um, and then slowly but
- 1:42:00surely I got every signature. So the
- 1:42:03first signature I got was Peter David's.
- 1:42:06I got Peter David's signature and I got
- 1:42:07it in Midtown Comics years ago. I can't
- 1:42:10even tell you what was what was the
- 1:42:12event and what was the purpose of the
- 1:42:13signing. Um, but I got that signing
- 1:42:16there all the time, busy.
- 1:42:18>> Yeah. So, you know, that's that's one of
- 1:42:20the benefits of living in New York. You
- 1:42:21go to Midtown all the time. Like Tom
- 1:42:22King just had a signing just not that
- 1:42:24long ago. Um, so I got Peter David's
- 1:42:27signature and I've had it for years. And
- 1:42:29then last year I was at Guardian State,
- 1:42:32one of the Guardian State shows, the
- 1:42:34Winterfest, not this year, but the the
- 1:42:36previous year. And Bob White was there.
- 1:42:38So I got him to sign it. And then over
- 1:42:40at New York ComicCon
- 1:42:42when they were doing the Todd McFarland
- 1:42:43signature, I was able to get Todd's
- 1:42:45signature. So I got that I got that
- 1:42:48Incredible Hulk signed, but I also got
- 1:42:50the Batman signed too by Todd. And the
- 1:42:52the Batman the Batman 423 is now signed
- 1:42:55by Todd McFar, but it's also not signed
- 1:42:57by Jim Star. And crazy, they both came
- 1:43:00back at 9.0.
- 1:43:04>> Oh says he hasn't heard me mention Elfqu
- 1:43:07Quest by Wendy and Richard Pey, which
- 1:43:09their beginning story is amazing. So if
- 1:43:12you go back in the top 10 comics of the
- 1:43:14week, one of the very first ones, the
- 1:43:16book appeared on that list and I talked
- 1:43:18about it then and there, but it hasn't
- 1:43:19been on in quite a while, but it has
- 1:43:21been on there 100%.
- 1:43:24>> Elf Quest is one of those comic books. I
- 1:43:26think it was a large it's larger than
- 1:43:28your standard comic book.
- 1:43:30>> So that makes that makes it a little
- 1:43:32more difficult to collect. But it does
- 1:43:34have a fan base.
- 1:43:35>> Has a big fan base actually.
- 1:43:37>> And it's it's not that easy to find
- 1:43:39either. That's the next thing, right?
- 1:43:40>> No, it's not. It's it's an it's an 80s
- 1:43:42indies book. So it's it might be just as
- 1:43:45rare as let's say Teenage Mutant Ninja
- 1:43:47Turtles, but since you know the demand
- 1:43:49for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles higher,
- 1:43:51that's why that book demands more money.
- 1:43:53But getting to Elf Quest number one, I
- 1:43:54think it was ear late7s. I don't even
- 1:43:57think it was ' 80s. I think it was late
- 1:43:58'7s, like 79 or something like that.
- 1:44:00>> And I thought I thought they were doing
- 1:44:01something with the IP. I just don't
- 1:44:03remember what it was. I heard something
- 1:44:04a while back about Elf Quest, but I
- 1:44:05don't remember what it was.
- 1:44:07>> They've been trying for years to get
- 1:44:09something going with Elf Quest, but it
- 1:44:11just they want to have they want to have
- 1:44:13the most control they could possibly
- 1:44:14have. So, I think that's what's kind of
- 1:44:17causing that problem for them. It's kind
- 1:44:19of like the same thing with Todd with
- 1:44:21Todd and Spawn where you know he he
- 1:44:23wants to have this control and and
- 1:44:26industry is like but we need to do what
- 1:44:29we need to do.
- 1:44:30>> Yeah.
- 1:44:31>> That kind of like what stops it. Um but
- 1:44:33I'm h I'm all for the creator getting as
- 1:44:36much rights as they could possibly get
- 1:44:37for it. Uh but studios always want their
- 1:44:40cut.
- 1:44:42>> Jay knows the way. He says he named his
- 1:44:44daughter Stan.
- 1:44:47>> I love that.
- 1:44:49Hey, she's okay with it. [laughter]
- 1:44:56>> All right. And even
- 1:44:59>> named Carmen. My father I'll give you
- 1:45:00another one. My father's name is
- 1:45:02Jennifer.
- 1:45:02>> That's
- 1:45:03>> what
- 1:45:04>> Get the [ __ ] out of here.
- 1:45:05>> I'm not kidding. [snorts]
- 1:45:07>> Carmen, I've heard. But that that's I
- 1:45:09would say common in Hispanic Heritage.
- 1:45:11Jennifer is a different story though.
- 1:45:13>> Name plural too. Jennifers.
- 1:45:17So, that's one of those stories, too,
- 1:45:18where a police officer saved my
- 1:45:20grandma's life in Puerto Rico, and then
- 1:45:22she promised to name her her first born
- 1:45:25after the
- 1:45:27>> the police officer. My only, you know,
- 1:45:29since, you know, they're both long gone,
- 1:45:31I can't really, you know, vouch for it,
- 1:45:33but my guess is that that was the police
- 1:45:35officer's last name.
- 1:45:36>> Wow.
- 1:45:40>> He hated Yeah, actually, he hated his
- 1:45:42name.
- 1:45:43>> I mean, yeah, if I was named Jennifer, I
- 1:45:45probably wouldn't like that either. So
- 1:45:46he wait
- 1:45:46>> how do you spell it? [laughter]
- 1:45:48>> He the same way but he will he will
- 1:45:50spell it with an s at the end.
- 1:45:52>> So Jennifer
- 1:45:53>> Jennifer
- 1:45:54>> two ends.
- 1:45:55>> Two ends. Yeah. Same exact way.
- 1:45:57>> Wow. That's that's I've never heard
- 1:45:59that.
- 1:46:00>> So he would go by so he would go by his
- 1:46:02nickname BP or he he later on he adapted
- 1:46:06a name um Johnny.
- 1:46:08>> That works.
- 1:46:09>> That worked. And then sometimes he just
- 1:46:10will go by Jay Lauraniano. In fact when
- 1:46:12he passed away he passed away. It's been
- 1:46:14like it's been over 15 years now. When
- 1:46:17he passed away and we did the tombstone,
- 1:46:19we purposely decided not to put
- 1:46:21Jennifer's and we just put Jay J Boppel
- 1:46:25like that and then with his with our
- 1:46:26last name uh because we knew even in his
- 1:46:29grave he wouldn't want to see his name
- 1:46:31there. [laughter] So we we did that um
- 1:46:34stuff like that. But he Yeah, he hated
- 1:46:36his last name. He hated his name.
- 1:46:38>> He couldn't stand it. He he would have
- 1:46:40legally changed it if he had the ability
- 1:46:42to. So, so one question I might as well
- 1:46:44ask you guys this since I have you on
- 1:46:46here, and it has nothing to do with
- 1:46:48comics whatsoever, but a a content
- 1:46:50creator that has recently left the
- 1:46:52space, and and I'll ask you guys about
- 1:46:54this because I wanted to ask it early
- 1:46:56on, and then I I kind of forgot, but I
- 1:46:58don't know if you guys noticed that
- 1:46:59Sticky Goose deleted all his YouTube
- 1:47:02content and his Instagram.
- 1:47:06>> Just Well, how recent?
- 1:47:09>> I I don't know. Uh, somebody sent it to
- 1:47:11me and and and all his YouTube content
- 1:47:13was gone. The channel's still there, but
- 1:47:15all there's no videos. Uh, his Instagram
- 1:47:17is basically been deleted. There's
- 1:47:19nothing there. So
- 1:47:20>> So he
- 1:47:22I don't know what he did. I I know that
- 1:47:25he sold all his books. I haven't talked
- 1:47:26to him in a long time, but I was shocked
- 1:47:28that he would delete all his content
- 1:47:30because that's still a revenue stream.
- 1:47:32You know, people watch old content and,
- 1:47:34you know, that's still so to delete all
- 1:47:36of it. That was quite shocking to me.
- 1:47:39Yeah, I actually chatted with him on
- 1:47:40Instagram because he's he was like,
- 1:47:43"Hey, I'm selling my stuff." And I'm
- 1:47:44like, "You have any FFS, [laughter]
- 1:47:46you know, [gasps] and
- 1:47:48>> yeah, I've never had a chance I never
- 1:47:49had a chance to meet Sticky um or talk
- 1:47:52to him or anything like that." I I I am
- 1:47:54one I am one of the guys who was not a
- 1:47:57big fan of his little roast.
- 1:47:59>> Um you know, not that not because I'm
- 1:48:01not a fan of roast. I like a good roast
- 1:48:04here and there. Um, I just don't like
- 1:48:06the people he was roasting, if that
- 1:48:08makes sense. I didn't like how he was
- 1:48:09roasting certain individuals that he
- 1:48:11didn't know who they were and why he was
- 1:48:13roasting them. They just decided to pick
- 1:48:15on them.
- 1:48:15>> Um, so I think that was punching down.
- 1:48:18Um,
- 1:48:18>> but that was also a long that was like
- 1:48:20the first video or first or second video
- 1:48:22where he did. So after that though to
- 1:48:24like calm down or whatever.
- 1:48:25>> Yeah. And you know, and again, I never
- 1:48:28partic like I've wa I watched his
- 1:48:30contact like everybody else would. Um,
- 1:48:34but there was a part of me that also
- 1:48:35knew
- 1:48:37that
- 1:48:39he was he was he was he was kind of one
- 1:48:41of those guys to me and again, nothing
- 1:48:43against personally against him or
- 1:48:44anything like that. Um, he was just one
- 1:48:46of those guys that I think he had a pers
- 1:48:49perspective of the comic book industry
- 1:48:52that wasn't entirely true, but it was
- 1:48:54true to him. So that I guess that's
- 1:48:56that's his perspective or his perception
- 1:48:58probably is probably a better term for
- 1:49:00it. Um because there was times I was
- 1:49:02like he doesn't know the real story and
- 1:49:06that happened a few times when I would
- 1:49:08watch his contact like if you remember
- 1:49:11not not what what happened over here in
- 1:49:14in Brooklyn in the Brooklyn comic show
- 1:49:16with the the comic book that was stolen.
- 1:49:20>> We're talking about freaking what's his
- 1:49:22face? Uh what's that guy's name? Um,
- 1:49:25>> oh man, what's his [ __ ] name now? He
- 1:49:27just came back on the scene. So, Nemesis
- 1:49:29Prime posted a photo. He's like, "Whoa,
- 1:49:30Nemesis Prime was like a big It was a
- 1:49:32big He he really instigated."
- 1:49:34>> What What the [ __ ] is the guy's name
- 1:49:36now? Now it's going to drive me nuts.
- 1:49:37>> Yeah. Um Oh, it's in the tip of my
- 1:49:39tongue, too. [laughter]
- 1:49:41>> Oh, man.
- 1:49:41>> You know, I know what you're talking
- 1:49:42about. I know what you're talking about.
- 1:49:43>> He's like he's I don't know if he's
- 1:49:45Indian or he's like uh from that part of
- 1:49:47the the country from the world.
- 1:49:50>> Oh, man. I'm probably better, right?
- 1:49:52>> Yeah. I I forget his name, but he was
- 1:49:54like the big dude on whatnot, scamming
- 1:49:56people. He was scamming people
- 1:49:57everywhere.
- 1:49:58>> Yeah,
- 1:49:58>> forget his [ __ ] name now. That's
- 1:50:00going to drive me nuts.
- 1:50:01>> Oh, right. Yeah, I remember now.
- 1:50:03>> It wasn't Carbo. [laughter] It wasn't
- 1:50:05Carbo.
- 1:50:06>> No, I I saw that. I saw that.
- 1:50:09>> It wasn't Carbo. It was a different
- 1:50:11case. But
- 1:50:12>> no, what the Oh my god. What is his name
- 1:50:14now? That's going to drive me nuts.
- 1:50:16>> Carbo.
- 1:50:17>> What? No, it's not Carbo. It's
- 1:50:20>> We all know who it is. is I bet you
- 1:50:21someone in the chat would know.
- 1:50:22>> [ __ ] Yeah, put it in the chat if you
- 1:50:24remember his name.
- 1:50:25>> He had a He had a line.
- 1:50:27>> His name is Ram Ram Cassoon. I remember
- 1:50:29that name.
- 1:50:30>> There it is. Epic.
- 1:50:30>> Epic Nation. That's it. Yes.
- 1:50:33>> Okay.
- 1:50:34>> Luis Mendoza, my man. Good job.
- 1:50:36>> Thank you. Thank you. Epic Nation. Thank
- 1:50:37you. Uh, so he put his video on he put
- 1:50:42his take on Epic Nation and he gave like
- 1:50:45[laughter] he did like almost like his
- 1:50:47investigative reporting of what was
- 1:50:49happening which was completely wrong
- 1:50:52[laughter]
- 1:50:52and I was cra that that actually made me
- 1:50:55laugh. Um, so I was like no dude that's
- 1:50:57not the how it went because I was there
- 1:50:59that day. I was there that day.
- 1:51:02Thankfully I wasn't there when it
- 1:51:03happened.
- 1:51:04>> Wow. But I was there with that day and
- 1:51:05how and what what went down when he he
- 1:51:07had his guy switch the book and things
- 1:51:10like that. And the best to me the best
- 1:51:13part of the story is the aftermath of
- 1:51:14the story. You know what [laughter] I
- 1:51:16mean? With with all the drama that that
- 1:51:19followed within the weeks to come and
- 1:51:20how Nemesis's Prime was like drilling
- 1:51:23him. So I got to give Justin credit for
- 1:51:25that one.
- 1:51:27>> Yeah. I mean really hard.
- 1:51:30>> He he was funny. like he Justin was very
- 1:51:32funny with that whole situation like but
- 1:51:35deservedly so obviously but uh I don't
- 1:51:38remember that video that Sticky put out
- 1:51:40about Epic Nation but like I don't know
- 1:51:42how how it took so long for whatnot to
- 1:51:44ban that dude. I know he's back now
- 1:51:46selling Pokemon. Uh
- 1:51:48>> oh yeah he's been doing Laboo's Pokemon.
- 1:51:50>> Yeah. So he's been sticking around a lot
- 1:51:52in the anime community lately.
- 1:51:55>> That's kind of like where he's at now.
- 1:51:57Uh, personally speaking, I got nothing
- 1:52:00against Epic Nation because again, what
- 1:52:03he did was wrong. Of course, he and his
- 1:52:05guy did it and he he didn't really fess
- 1:52:07up to to doing it. Um, and it's messed
- 1:52:10up how he did it and then, you know,
- 1:52:12other people that got involved. That's
- 1:52:13also the part that's that's kind of
- 1:52:15messed up about the whole story. But
- 1:52:17personally speaking, I don't have
- 1:52:18anything against Epic Nation because I
- 1:52:20never had a bad altercation with Epic.
- 1:52:22So, I'm not going to I won't say
- 1:52:24anything bad about the person, but what
- 1:52:25happened and it's clear what happened,
- 1:52:28>> you know, when you saw it. And I
- 1:52:29remember seeing Billy Bob, he was
- 1:52:30talking Ian, those guys from the book
- 1:52:33comic show, but I remember being there
- 1:52:34and I remember my boy was there, too. He
- 1:52:36was selling stuff like, yo, he was at my
- 1:52:38table. I like he could have taken
- 1:52:39something from me. It's like, but there
- 1:52:41was no way for him knowing it until, you
- 1:52:43know, after the fact. But it was it was
- 1:52:45pretty crazy, man. all the all the [ __ ]
- 1:52:47that came out about that dude like like
- 1:52:50I remember like he was like renting cars
- 1:52:53or doing something and ripping people
- 1:52:54off. I don't know. All the stuff that
- 1:52:56came out was just wild to me. So, but
- 1:52:58regardless back back on topic here, I
- 1:53:00was just really shocked to see that he
- 1:53:03would just delete everything like that
- 1:53:04on a whim considering, like I said, it's
- 1:53:06a money maker. He could still, you know,
- 1:53:09>> get money from the channel like from
- 1:53:11older videos. That was
- 1:53:13>> Yeah. So, like that that shocked me as
- 1:53:15all. That was all just sad to see him go
- 1:53:17cuz I don't think he was a bad dude.
- 1:53:19Yes, he made some bad decisions with
- 1:53:20regard to content, but at the same time
- 1:53:22like I had him on the podcast and we had
- 1:53:24just like a long conversation about like
- 1:53:26stuff that he enjoyed. Just seemed like
- 1:53:28a regular dude. But uh the the one thing
- 1:53:30I I'll caution all people, if you're
- 1:53:33collecting anything and and this has
- 1:53:35happened multiple times in multiple
- 1:53:37genres of collecting is like when you
- 1:53:39get in over your head a little bit and
- 1:53:41you spend too much money or you've been
- 1:53:43ripped off. That's what happens. I hate
- 1:53:46to say it, people just like shut down
- 1:53:48and they leave and they just don't want
- 1:53:49to see it. It's like out of sight, out
- 1:53:51of mind type of thing.
- 1:53:52>> Yeah. Yeah. It was a little because it
- 1:53:54ended up becoming
- 1:53:56not understanding how the industry
- 1:53:59works. The market I guess more not so
- 1:54:02much the industry, the marketplace, not
- 1:54:04understanding how the marketplace could,
- 1:54:06you know, it's like it's like when you
- 1:54:08get into gambling for stuff like that or
- 1:54:10you're playing blackjack or poker
- 1:54:12without having the knowledge of how to
- 1:54:13play blackjack or poker, you could have
- 1:54:15a string of good luck and then out of
- 1:54:17nowhere all this bad luck comes
- 1:54:18afterwards.
- 1:54:19>> Yeah. um you know he he was definitely
- 1:54:23he saw like a gatekeeper community type
- 1:54:25of thing which I do admit does exist uh
- 1:54:28with with certain individuals but I
- 1:54:30don't think everybody's like that.
- 1:54:31That's the other thing.
- 1:54:32>> I said that's my question like people
- 1:54:34say that there's gatekeeping. I have
- 1:54:35never experienced that in any
- 1:54:38>> in anything that I collect and I collect
- 1:54:39a lot of [ __ ] [ __ ] as you guys can
- 1:54:41see here. Like I've never experienced
- 1:54:42that. So tell me how some people
- 1:54:45experience that and and I've never of
- 1:54:47all the genres of [ __ ] that I collect.
- 1:54:49that I don't understand it.
- 1:54:50>> So, I think it's more a like I think
- 1:54:53it's it's it's not gatekeeping in the
- 1:54:56same way as your traditional gatekeeping
- 1:54:58like you can't come here type of thing.
- 1:54:59But I think it I think there is um
- 1:55:03clicks if that means something. I do
- 1:55:06believe there's
- 1:55:07>> I get that.
- 1:55:08>> Yeah. And I think those clicks are what
- 1:55:10seems to be gatekeeping even though
- 1:55:12those clicks themselves are not
- 1:55:14gatekeeping. You get my point. So, it's
- 1:55:17like this group over here is doing their
- 1:55:20little thing here. This group over here
- 1:55:21is doing their little thing, right? But
- 1:55:23they're not telling you you can't join
- 1:55:25them, but you feel like you can't,
- 1:55:29>> if that makes sense. You know what I
- 1:55:30mean? So,
- 1:55:32>> I would environment. There's um not I've
- 1:55:37I've posted some things in CGC chat
- 1:55:40boards
- 1:55:41>> and there's you know some people are
- 1:55:43great and I've answered questions and
- 1:55:44then other people are like you know you
- 1:55:46didn't ask your question in the right
- 1:55:48manner or something like that. It's
- 1:55:50like, you know, you got, you know, you
- 1:55:51have to clear the filters first. And
- 1:55:52there was something else, too, where I
- 1:55:54posted like, hey guys, in search of
- 1:55:56certain books or something like that
- 1:55:57and, you know, and then I just got all
- 1:55:59these comments and I was like, all
- 1:56:00right, why did I even bother, you know,
- 1:56:02and I get it like first time, you know,
- 1:56:04and I even said first time posting, you
- 1:56:07know, hey, bear with me kind of thing,
- 1:56:08you know. So, it's kind of hard to just
- 1:56:10sort of sneak in there, but, you know,
- 1:56:12by and large, you know, 99% of the
- 1:56:15people I've met in this community have
- 1:56:17been great. I mean, Lawrence and I are
- 1:56:19friends and we met.
- 1:56:20>> Yeah.
- 1:56:20>> Just I was like, "Hey, dude, you live in
- 1:56:22you live in uh Bergen County." I'm like,
- 1:56:24"I live in B, you know, and I think
- 1:56:25that's how we met up." [snorts]
- 1:56:28>> But even like YouTube in itself, like
- 1:56:30it's just like, you know, you meet
- 1:56:31people, you talk on Instagram, you do
- 1:56:33whatever. Like Izzy, I think I met you
- 1:56:35for the first time at the Garden State
- 1:56:36ComicFest and stuff like that. So like
- 1:56:38like you just it I don't know like I
- 1:56:41think it really depends on like the type
- 1:56:42of person you are, but I haven't really
- 1:56:43haven't met many bad people in this
- 1:56:46hobby. But that's just me.
- 1:56:47>> Yeah. And the people I've met that I
- 1:56:49would consider to be bad people, they
- 1:56:51want to be bad people,
- 1:56:53>> if that makes sense. You know, they want
- 1:56:55to be the instigators. They want to
- 1:56:56bring the drama.
- 1:56:58>> Um where I think the majority the
- 1:57:00majority of people in in this community,
- 1:57:02we'll call it, they just want to talk
- 1:57:05comic books to people that they can't
- 1:57:06talk comic books to because it's hard to
- 1:57:09find comic book friends. You know what I
- 1:57:11mean?
- 1:57:12>> Especially us, man. We're, you know, we
- 1:57:14we've reached an age where we're not
- 1:57:15interested in going to find friends
- 1:57:17anymore. [laughter]
- 1:57:18>> You know what I mean?
- 1:57:19>> No, it's true.
- 1:57:20>> Yeah.
- 1:57:22>> It's hard to find new friends. I mean,
- 1:57:24look, I'm a heavy metal guy,
- 1:57:26>> you know? So, it's like for me, it's
- 1:57:28like, you know, a grain of pepper in in
- 1:57:31the middle of salt, you know? It's like
- 1:57:32when I find one person, I'm like, "All
- 1:57:34right, dude. We got to talk shop, you
- 1:57:36know?"
- 1:57:36>> Especially when you get when you get
- 1:57:38older, right? when you hit like in your
- 1:57:39your 30s and 40s or even older like like
- 1:57:42[snorts] if you find accommodation to
- 1:57:44someone like hey you have someone to
- 1:57:46someone to talk to you can bounce things
- 1:57:47off as like as you get older it's it's a
- 1:57:49lot easier to make friends with someone
- 1:57:51as you know when you're younger it's
- 1:57:53like you know what there's so many other
- 1:57:55things going on when you're older like
- 1:57:56you know I I don't know besides work and
- 1:57:58like maybe some family stuff like
- 1:58:00>> like yeah like like this is it like this
- 1:58:02is what we have now
- 1:58:04>> yeah you become likeminded
- 1:58:06>> um you know it This is the equivalent of
- 1:58:09just hanging out in the bar and having a
- 1:58:11couple of drinks with some people
- 1:58:12sometimes
- 1:58:14for us, you know.
- 1:58:17>> Oh says this should be a continuously
- 1:58:19Friday night talk. Love the insight from
- 1:58:20you guys. So, it's funny you say that
- 1:58:21cuz somebody mentioned to me like I
- 1:58:23should do like a regular like monthly
- 1:58:25show, like a live show, and I try to
- 1:58:27come on whenever I have time, but like I
- 1:58:30I'm I'm contemplating if I should do
- 1:58:32like one regular monthly show on a
- 1:58:34certain like Friday night or something
- 1:58:36like that that everybody knows, hey,
- 1:58:37he's going to be live this night. But
- 1:58:38we'll see what happens. Uh MV says that
- 1:58:41receipts are collected for certain
- 1:58:43people and forgiveness is hard to get
- 1:58:45within a community, which I also
- 1:58:46understand. What do you think about
- 1:58:48that?
- 1:58:49>> Yeah, I agree.
- 1:58:50I agree to that. I think, you know, I've
- 1:58:53been I've been I've been told to to be
- 1:58:56to change my mind at times, which I do.
- 1:58:59Um because that's just the way things
- 1:59:00are, especially in where where I do what
- 1:59:03I do. Um with with trending comics
- 1:59:05specifically, uh because that's kind of
- 1:59:08what I work on, right? That's I work
- 1:59:09with Cover Prize. I work with Gold
- 1:59:10Collect and those guys,
- 1:59:12>> we talk about what's trending and stuff
- 1:59:14like that. Not everybody
- 1:59:15>> What's interesting is not everybody
- 1:59:17likes that. people want to. And again, I
- 1:59:20think we live we live in a world where
- 1:59:23if you don't like what I like, then I
- 1:59:25don't I I don't think I should like you.
- 1:59:27>> I think there's a little bit of that
- 1:59:28going on sometimes.
- 1:59:29>> That's that's the problem. Yeah. It's
- 1:59:30[ __ ] everybody is too like my way, my
- 1:59:34way, my way.
- 1:59:35>> Yeah. And that's the thing. It's like
- 1:59:37buy what you want to buy. If you want to
- 1:59:39buy manga, buy manga. If you want to if
- 1:59:41you want to buy modern books, buy modern
- 1:59:43books. If you want to buy, you know,
- 1:59:44silver age and golden age, go for it. I
- 1:59:48I personally don't care. As long as you
- 1:59:50buy comic books, that actually makes me
- 1:59:52more happy because I like talking comic
- 1:59:54books. I like talking I you know, I
- 1:59:56can't tell you about the modern age
- 1:59:59stories that are going on because no one
- 2:00:01cares about them as much.
- 2:00:02>> But I know there's people out there that
- 2:00:04knows everything that's going on in
- 2:00:05every comic book. Like right now,
- 2:00:06recently, the recent Batman run has been
- 2:00:08pretty good. And I'm talking about
- 2:00:09Batman general, not Absolute.
- 2:00:11>> You know, Matt Fraction's doing he's
- 2:00:13doing something interesting with Joker,
- 2:00:15which I think was will be cute. I'm
- 2:00:17curious to see. But um but at the end of
- 2:00:20the day, man, just love comic books for
- 2:00:22what they are, regardless of what they
- 2:00:24are,
- 2:00:26>> you know.
- 2:00:26>> I agree.
- 2:00:28>> Uh- w with that said, guys, it's almost
- 2:00:3110:30. I'm going to call it tonight. Uh
- 2:00:33we've been on for like two hours. So,
- 2:00:35again, I want to thank both of you guys
- 2:00:36for for hanging with me. Izzy, you've
- 2:00:38been on multiple times, but Dario hasn't
- 2:00:40been on with me for like five years,
- 2:00:42man.
- 2:00:42>> So, I I appreciate both of you guys for
- 2:00:44hanging out. stop by for a brief moment
- 2:00:46only because I have to say thanks for
- 2:00:48for for that baby because I really
- 2:00:50appreciate that was
- 2:00:51>> thank you for taking it off my hands.
- 2:00:53>> Yeah, that was a good one. You showed
- 2:00:55that. So guys, just to make it quick, he
- 2:00:57showed the picture and I immediately
- 2:00:59contacted him like within seconds of you
- 2:01:01posting it somehow
- 2:01:02>> and I was like, "Is that book still
- 2:01:04available?" He's like, "Yep, [laughter]
- 2:01:07>> I want it." He get he gives me the price
- 2:01:09like, "Okay, good. So done."
- 2:01:12>> Yeah, man. I'm trying to get a bunch of
- 2:01:14like Instagram um sellers, like dealers
- 2:01:17together to kind of do like some some
- 2:01:19live streaming and claim sales. Uh I
- 2:01:21haven't gone fully yet and and figure
- 2:01:24out what what I'm going to do 100%, but
- 2:01:25I'm just trying to get a bunch of people
- 2:01:27to kind of come on board. So, if you're
- 2:01:28a collector or if you're a um a dealer
- 2:01:30or an artist like you are, Izzy, and you
- 2:01:32want to pop on the show, you know, I'm
- 2:01:35kind of scaling this out. I want to get
- 2:01:36a bunch of people and go from there. So,
- 2:01:38I'll keep everybody posted, but that's
- 2:01:40that was part of it. um a friend who
- 2:01:42wanted to get out. So, that kind of made
- 2:01:43me think about it. But, I'll keep you
- 2:01:45guys informed. And again, appreciate
- 2:01:47both of you guys for hopping on tonight,
- 2:01:48man.
- 2:01:48>> Thanks.
- 2:01:49>> Have a great weekend.
- 2:01:50>> You too, guys. Take care.
- 2:01:52>> All right. Take it easy, guys.
- 2:01:54>> Bye.
