- 0:00Let's look on three O 3. So his idea of please shoot, and
- 0:03we've been discussing this and what he's telling us appears to
- 0:06be portasious means have a degree of control when it comes
- 0:10to all material items as it be be interested in certain foods,
- 0:14like in certain vacations, like in certain cars, have a certain
- 0:18level of control because if a person gets too connected to
- 0:22these things, it eventually leads to problems.
- 0:25That's clear. And how does a person develop
- 0:27that control? So you can tell us now how a
- 0:30person or really the problem when it comes to pretty sure.
- 0:34First of all, you told us over the last couple of days, how do
- 0:37you develop the control when you recognize are you being sketched
- 0:41console? If you're aware of the whole
- 0:44advertising industry, the entire thing, this whole idea,
- 0:49marketing and advertising is pretty much to pull you in, to
- 0:53make you get excited about something that really is not as
- 0:55exciting or to make you get anxious or something that you
- 0:57really didn't care for or to open up your appetite.
- 1:00The things that you think imaginable, you recognize that
- 1:04you're aware of that you're a little bit more careful,
- 1:08understand some of the messages, understand they're trying to
- 1:11pull you in, understand they need to make money.
- 1:13And then you're careful about those areas because every time,
- 1:17you know, some people fall for every gimmick.
- 1:20Some people, like I say, it's only woman, but a lot of women
- 1:22are too. They fought for every single
- 1:25gimmick. And then there's some people who
- 1:27have a more of a calm approach for things.
- 1:31They never get so excited by something and they say, Oh my
- 1:33gosh, it's the greatest thing ever.
- 1:35That restaurant's best in the world.
- 1:37All the talk, they hold us, us back from that talk.
- 1:40They don't go on right away. And those people, there's a
- 1:43little bit of level of control of voice and ever being super
- 1:47excited. And it was super connected to
- 1:50mature other things. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy
- 1:53things, it just means don't get overly connected and pulled in
- 1:57because if we're if we're fall for these things and they own us
- 2:02and they control us and then a person has no control.
- 2:05And then we know what are the problems that this can lead to
- 2:07and probably lead to is a person doesn't have the money for it.
- 2:10The problem probably lead to the levels of addiction to the
- 2:13different areas or problems because you didn't have that
- 2:17level, the initial level of some level of control.
- 2:19Some I wouldn't call it cynicism, but some real approach
- 2:24to everything that's pulling us. You realize our entire life is
- 2:26pulling us. You're aware of that and you
- 2:29have it to give control in a much better position.
- 2:32Now you get a handjacked exactly constantly.
- 2:36Now look at three O 3 over here being there three O yeah,
- 2:44money's both cash right. You need to make money.
- 2:47But you know what, sometimes people have a pull because they
- 2:50need to make money, because they got used to certain lifestyle
- 2:53and they got connected to so many different material items
- 2:56and they can't imagine doing it with one of them.
- 2:58So they pull themselves or a lot of themselves pull.
- 3:00You pull them to do the wrong thing.
- 3:02Same idea. Just a certain degree of pay.
- 3:04Shoot our life. I hold them back pretty.
- 3:06Expensive with other materialism.
- 3:07Exactly right. So we have to part.
- 3:10Of the community. We have to work to make that
- 3:13living. That's true.
- 3:15And you add 1 degree one element that we get excited about or
- 3:18into that only powers on to our problem.
- 3:21Rene. This is fundamental Camoche ET
- 3:25bonein Azerdevar, Gorim Kenyatta play shoot.
- 3:29The same way a person thinks about this level of control on
- 3:34these concepts and he's wary of the falsehood of advertising and
- 3:38Demyon that helps them become Paresh call Circuto Mavsidoto.
- 3:46In the same vein, if he's ignorant and his matters, he's
- 3:50really putting himself in harm's way.
- 3:52But Madon, this is the one I wanted to analyze.
- 3:55Madon bin Hassarim Bancher Goodulot, Harold FEMA, Hara
- 4:01Kavod or Marbi Maheva. If you hang around with people
- 4:06and his example, officers and important people, noble people
- 4:11who chase Kavod and I'm very busy with nonsense.
- 4:15Keep it. When you constantly see when you
- 4:22see you constantly see these people and you schmooze with
- 4:25them and you talk to them and you go to their affairs and hang
- 4:29around them and you see all the honor that they're busy with.
- 4:32Listen to his words. If Shard, it's impossible.
- 4:35She loved the Torretta avatar that it will not ignite and
- 4:40inspire and create a temptation like Modoto to follow us
- 4:45through, to desire these areas. Even if you have full control of
- 4:52Yetzada, full control. He don't let it be you.
- 4:55But in this area, being in it with people who are busy with
- 5:01material and people who are busy with honor.
- 5:04Now, busy with honor doesn't mean they need cavort and the
- 5:06simple nature, people who are busy with themselves and talking
- 5:10about themselves and talking about the material and where
- 5:12they went and where they're coming from and what they're
- 5:15eating and what they're doing, what they're building.
- 5:18If you hang around with such people, coin the Messiah shanim,
- 5:21it's impossible. It's impossible to get away from
- 5:24that mindset. You will not win that war.
- 5:30You definitely not avoid that war, and you're putting yourself
- 5:34in harm's way. And this is fundamental,
- 5:36especially if we live among our kind of lifestyle.
- 5:39It's fundamental to have an independent way of thinking and
- 5:43more importantly, socializing. Don't socialize with people
- 5:47constantly who are very busy with stuff.
- 5:51People who always talk about their vacation.
- 5:53That will be a problem for you no matter how much I have it in
- 5:57the been the way of thinking. People who are just built the
- 5:59house in Brooklyn and now talking about building the house
- 6:01and deal in the constant of building, building, building.
- 6:04It's very hard for our minds to avoid thinking that way until
- 6:09we're talking that way. People are talking about the
- 6:11view of a wedding or how much it's costing a lot of stuff.
- 6:14If you keep hearing it all the time, you will be inundated with
- 6:18that mindset and the mindset. The words are important.
- 6:22People who are busy with Cavort and very involved in Heather,
- 6:27very involved in waste of time stuff.
- 6:29They're always talking about the vacations and always talking
- 6:32about Thai restaurant I went to and you know, I'm going to go to
- 6:34next week and all this stuff, all the stuff that sounds fine.
- 6:37There's nothing wrong with any of this, right?
- 6:38Nothing wrong with building a beautiful house in Brooklyn.
- 6:40That's the wrong with building a gorgeous house in deal.
- 6:42Nothing when we're spending a billion dollars on your on your
- 6:44wedding doesn't matter to me. Nothing wrong with having very
- 6:48sharp cars. Nothing wrong with vacation
- 6:51whenever you want, but there is something wrong with being busy
- 6:55with it. And for our sake, when we're not
- 6:57that person, there is something wrong with hearing it all the
- 7:00time. You have to separate yourself
- 7:03from the mindset and the talk that isn't for you.
- 7:06It's extremely. Tough.
- 7:08I know I agree. With him enough.
- 7:09I mean you'll lose all your friends because no, I can
- 7:12imagine my friends when my kids get older, they're all going to
- 7:15get married practically the same time.
- 7:16OK. Me and my friends got married at
- 7:18the same time. Good.
- 7:19So I'm sure their wives is going to be talking about their
- 7:21weddings they're making for their daughters.
- 7:23Right. But there has to be a degree of
- 7:26right now, there has to be an off switch, which says I, I tell
- 7:29you, I give you a personal example.
- 7:32I'm in the rabbi business, right?
- 7:34So the rabbi business, there's also a lot of stuff and talk and
- 7:37things and speeches and stuff like that.
- 7:40So I'm going to deal in the summer, if you have a sure end
- 7:42in the summer, by the end of the day.
- 7:44I go to liquor every day and I step out every single day.
- 7:48I can't tell you how many times I hear about the hype here from
- 7:52the rabbi element, the hype of things, of what happened here,
- 7:55what happened there, what someone said, what someone was
- 7:57speaking. And because I step out every
- 7:59single day, I literally can care less.
- 8:03And whereas while I was while I'm here or while you're even
- 8:07here on Shabbat and you're walking around hearing the talk,
- 8:09it gets into your mind, someone else spoke here.
- 8:12The crowds, the noise, donations, the big deal.
- 8:17And you step out and you can care less.
- 8:19And I had this at one point when I was in teaching for a little
- 8:21while in the school. Same idea.
- 8:23When you're in that zone, you care what people talk about in
- 8:27that zone. When you step out of that zone,
- 8:29you can care less. You think the guy in, in, in, in
- 8:33Arkansas cares what happens in Deal, New Jersey, You know he
- 8:36doesn't care. OK, well, part of one community
- 8:38or you like the part of this community, but our brain has to
- 8:40have a switch that says I am not going to be so interesting.
- 8:44The people who are. So however good they have, if
- 8:46you got the book, you read a book and then go back to
- 8:48yesteryear, right? The people who are very much
- 8:51with the times in every area follow how their whole life is a
- 8:57rat race. You don't realize the connection
- 8:59just because they're very busy with what's happening with so
- 9:01and so sad. It was so and so deed it would
- 9:03happen in the actual. Why does that relate to somehow
- 9:07it translates into our lives being rat race minded.
- 9:10That's how it works. If I hear everything that people
- 9:12say, if I care about everything goes on in all the big places,
- 9:16my mind thinks that way. And I'm a constant racing
- 9:21person. If I have a degree, an element,
- 9:24let's see, step out of these worlds on a very comfortable,
- 9:28healthy zone. I'm making decisions on my own
- 9:31pace. I'm getting involved in the
- 9:33enjoyments I want. I take vacations when my family
- 9:36needs it at the right time. I spend for my children's events
- 9:39the way I like to. All these things are in my
- 9:42control because I'm not being dictated by the mindset, the
- 9:45thoughts or the actions of other people.
- 9:49But he's telling you is, I know it's hard, but he's telling you
- 9:51is allowing their talk to be in your brain constantly being up
- 9:56to date with all the news and all these areas and all the
- 10:00material things that people are doing.
- 10:02You hear about someone to building that house and someone
- 10:04suspending that and they're doing this.
- 10:06If you're hearing all that, just hearing it, well, no matter
- 10:09what, control and guide our brain toward liking those
- 10:14things. That's how it is.
- 10:16Now. Again, you want to be in your
- 10:18own control. You want to be your own person
- 10:20and not a dissent of being them. Because FYI it never made our
- 10:24lives any happier. Never once did we feel good
- 10:27about what everyone else is doing.
- 10:28It doesn't make you feel good so why hear it?
- 10:31There's nothing about it that makes you happier.
- 10:33So also spend that much money on a wedding is how does it make me
- 10:36feel happy every time I have to spend that much or it means I
- 10:39can't spend that much? It brings stress.
- 10:41Right, so it doesn't make you any better.
- 10:43And our lives on their own are awesome.
- 10:45The only reason why much of our lives have small issues are
- 10:50because of the fact of what other people are doing.
- 10:53So if me, myself alone or my family, if I would look at my
- 10:57life on its own, I'd say that's amazing.
- 11:00Why should it be ruined or what someone else is dealing with?
- 11:03FYI they're not even having a good time but they're doing it.
- 11:05So why should it ruin my life? Why are there so many people are
- 11:08miserable about not having the money to do extra things when
- 11:11their life is great? They can pay tuition to take
- 11:13care of their family. They can be in two places over
- 11:15the course of the year. Brooklyn a deal.
- 11:17OK, great. But it's ruined because
- 11:20someone's always doing more. And he's telling you, along with
- 11:23the ruining, it'll guide our brain to try to be like them.
- 11:27And I will be connected to levels of material.
- 11:30My standards. Everyone says it's a community
- 11:32standard. Fine, the community standard is
- 11:35high, but our standards are dictated by what the wealthiest
- 11:40people are spending. Who's who decided that?
- 11:43Why does that make sense? They have the money, let them
- 11:45spend it. Even the wealthy is looking at
- 11:47the the other guys. Exactly.
- 11:48All right. This guy is right.
- 11:51Has nothing compared to what I have.
- 11:53I was living right. True.
- 11:56It's all all the all everyone's thinking about the person.
- 11:58Why? Why does he create my standard?
- 12:00Why is it even the months? Mine is called the community
- 12:03standard. Why is it OK?
- 12:05Why is it person embarrassed if they drive a car that is not as
- 12:10expensive as the average? You know, there's an average,
- 12:12you go to a parking lot, all the cars are going to do the same.
- 12:15Why is the person embarrassed? They can't afford it.
- 12:17I understand it's difficult. And by the way, the truth of the
- 12:18matter is it's not only our community, it's true every
- 12:21community. If you sign up to be a certain
- 12:25type, I'm telling you, even if you live in the most religious
- 12:29observant as she can ask you is you could live in Muncie, you
- 12:32could live in Lakewood. If you decide if you're a
- 12:34Lakewood in your car, you can care less the car you drive.
- 12:38If you're on liquid and you decide you're a working guy, you
- 12:40decide your guy with money. The moment you saw you assign
- 12:42yourself with those people and your friends and your social
- 12:45life with those people, you need to be exactly like them.
- 12:48And you can't function and tell you that way.
- 12:50And every community in every place in the world.
- 12:52So we have this one level thing called community.
- 12:55But once we associate with that mindset, our plateau and our
- 12:59level and our threshold is exactly like everybody else.
- 13:04You make that your rules, you're going to be connected so much
- 13:06more. 1, you can have stress constantly because you need to
- 13:10do that. And two, two, you're going to
- 13:13have a pull to feel that I need that material.
- 13:16And once I get involved in that, I imagine that world and that's
- 13:19my world. You're ruining your life for no
- 13:21reason. We all have beautiful lives and
- 13:24that is our most of us have rich people problems which are that
- 13:28issue, that kind of issue because.
- 13:29You see it, right? You.
- 13:31See it you don't, you don't miss something unless.
- 13:33You realize 100%, and if you associate with that and you make
- 13:36it as if it's yours and it's supposed to be ours and
- 13:38everyone's supposed to be the same, we're just creating
- 13:41problems for ourselves. And in his zone, he's telling
- 13:44you, you figure out ways to try to be part of that materialism
- 13:49and it pulls us down. The best move is to create in
- 13:53our minds conversations. I don't constantly talk to
- 13:57people about this stuff. I'm not constantly hearing about
- 13:59things I can't afford. I'm not getting involved in the
- 14:03level of life. That's not my level.
- 14:05If I do, I'm creating problems for myself.
- 14:07If I don't, I have full control of my material life and I'm in a
- 14:13much healthier place. I'm in a much happier place.
- 14:16I'm in a much clearer zone. I'm developing my life as it
- 14:20goes. That's great, but I'm not living
- 14:22someone else's life. That's what people are doing all
- 14:24day long, imagining and living other people's lives.
- 14:27That's why it's so important to have a degree of disconnect from
- 14:31the people around you when it comes to what they're spending
- 14:34and what they're doing. That's his time, right?
- 14:36Otherwise, and he says, oh, can Yanze a Marshall Lamont, 12,
- 14:42elecate a bet evil elecate a bet a mistake, which literally means
- 14:46it's better to go to the house in mourning than it is to go to
- 14:48the House of feasting. So he translated me.
- 14:50Such a shame for this point, which is when you go to the big
- 14:53time social gatherings, you are putting yourself in such a
- 14:57stressful, unhealthy mindset. If you allow yourself to think I
- 15:01need to be like them. That's how it works.
- 15:03Best thing for a person is to create in his own mind his zone
- 15:10or where he feels he's supposed to be not connected to anybody
- 15:14else. My family is unique because of
- 15:16its simplicity. My family is unique because we
- 15:19take nice, calm, simple vacations.
- 15:24My family has beautiful Shabbat table.
- 15:25Create your own zone not connected to the level of
- 15:29threshold of other people. And my goals now are not their
- 15:33goals and therefore my life is not their life.
- 15:35And therefore I don't have their pulse, I don't have their their
- 15:38their attractions. I don't need their excitements.
- 15:42Therefore my life is not fully dependent on their life.
- 15:45That's the case. I'm in a Gray zone and I could
- 15:47soar if I'm connected to theirs. I'm lagging behind constantly
- 15:52and life is really not fun because of all these issues.
- 15:54That's what he says. Stop with this.
