- 0:55Speaker 4: you guys, let me know if an Instagram group chat
- 0:58Speaker 4: like this is best for updates, and then he says
- 1:01Speaker 4: we're all in to win, and then he posted last
- 1:03Speaker 4: night at like one am, I went in it for
- 1:05Speaker 4: two K, two thousand dollars not the video game and
- 1:10Speaker 4: cashed out at six thousand or so in a game tonight.
- 1:12Speaker 4: It's gonna be a great summer boyees.
- 1:14Speaker 1: But that's we're not included in that.
- 1:16Speaker 2: We don't get the money.
- 1:17Speaker 4: He's just showing as he's playing like boys, I say,
- 1:21Speaker 4: is it z s it's an s okay?

- 1:26Speaker 2: You're in it. But it's called like wsop's.
- 1:29Speaker 5: That girl, which girl, Hey.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Don't do that money girl. We have a great interview
- 1:35Speaker 4: coming up with Jeff Pearlman, A plus. We should just
- 1:38Speaker 4: go to that first. Yeah, just because dude, it's so good.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I am a massive Jeff Pearlman fan, meaning he's my
- 1:44Speaker 4: favorite TikTok account. I say this, but he's written ten
- 1:47Speaker 4: amazing books. He's a best selling author, the New York
- 1:50Speaker 4: Times best selling author. He's written books about Bo Jackson,
- 1:52Speaker 4: the Showtime, Lakers, the nineties Cowboys, Great Rider. His fun
- 1:56Speaker 4: fact about him his wife saw a flyer to coffee shop, Hey,
- 2:02Speaker 4: somebody needs kidney, went through the process, don'tate to kidney
- 2:04Speaker 4: to somebody.
- 2:05Speaker 2: That they didn't even know.
- 2:06Speaker 4: His wife did, and then years later they've become friends
- 2:09Speaker 4: with them. But didn't know them forever. But don't ned
- 2:11Speaker 4: a kidney because she saw a flyer in a coffee shop.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I want to do that so bad.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Yeah you don't, or you would, but don't make this
- 2:19Speaker 4: about you. You know, so you want to go to
- 2:23Speaker 4: the interview, now, can do it? Let's go to Jeff Perlmans.
- 2:25Speaker 4: So there's literally only one person that when I get
- 2:28Speaker 4: on my TikTok, I go and search their profile to
- 2:30Speaker 4: make sure that I don't miss any content. And it's
- 2:32Speaker 4: our guest. Now, who's Jeff Pearlman. And you can follow
- 2:35Speaker 4: him on TikTok Jeff Pearlman author. But it's my favorite
- 2:38Speaker 4: TikTok account in the whole world because Jeff, you just
- 2:40Speaker 4: get on and I don't know what your motivation was
- 2:42Speaker 4: or if you thought this is going to be, but
- 2:44Speaker 4: your stories are freaking so good because they are all sports.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Was this some sort of strategy or are you just
- 2:50Speaker 4: like I'm just gonna hit the button and tell stories.
- 2:52Speaker 6: No, I'll tell you exactly what happened.
- 2:54Speaker 7: There was a maybe four months ago, five months ago,
- 2:58Speaker 7: I gave some advice or a bunch of layoffs in
- 3:00Speaker 7: sports media, and I gave some advice on Twitter to
- 3:04Speaker 7: young journalists coming up, and this one website slammed me,
- 3:08Speaker 7: just slam me and basically said, why would you ever
- 3:11Speaker 7: take advice? I'm fifty two, Why would you ever take
- 3:13Speaker 7: advice on social media? And TikTok and blah blah blah
- 3:16Speaker 7: basically from this dinosaur. And I was like, like, I'm
- 3:20Speaker 7: going to take this as a challenge. I've avoided TikTok
- 3:23Speaker 7: my whole life. I'm gonna take it as a challenge.
- 3:24Speaker 7: I'm just gonna go on TikTok. And my son, who's
- 3:27Speaker 7: his name is Emme, he's seventeen. He's like, Dad, don't
- 3:29Speaker 7: go on TikTok. I was like, I'm doing it. He's like,
- 3:31Speaker 7: it's it's for teenage girls. Don't do it. I was like,
- 3:34Speaker 7: I'm just gonna do it. I'm just gonna tell stories.
- 3:36Speaker 7: He's like, don't use filters, don't do any of that.
- 3:38Speaker 7: I was and I didn't. I haven't touched a filter
- 3:42Speaker 7: I think one time, but otherwise have it. And I
- 3:45Speaker 7: just like start telling stories because I like telling stories anyway,
- 3:47Speaker 7: and you know, I've had a long career. It's kind
- 3:49Speaker 7: of resonated. I'm always surprised that people listen.
- 3:51Speaker 4: I've made a lot of notes about things you've talked
- 3:53Speaker 4: about or things that I wanted to ask you, and
- 3:54Speaker 4: often I talk back to you. You just are a
- 3:57Speaker 4: recorded message that can't talk back to me. So it
- 4:00Speaker 4: actually good to do this in person. Showtime the book
- 4:02Speaker 4: you wrote with which was Magic Kareem Riley and the
- 4:04Speaker 4: Los Angeles Lakers, that turned into Winning Time Correct Correct.
- 4:08Speaker 4: And so when they come to you and say, hey,
- 4:10Speaker 4: you want to turn this into a television show, how
- 4:13Speaker 4: how do they approach you and how much are you
- 4:14Speaker 4: involved in actually making sure that they translate what you've
- 4:18Speaker 4: written correctly.
- 4:20Speaker 7: So it initially started about nine years ago. I lived
- 4:23Speaker 7: in California. Now I was living in Newershelle in New York,
- 4:25Speaker 7: and a screenwriter named Jim Heckt just called me and said, hey,
- 4:29Speaker 7: I really love your book. I was like, all right,
- 4:31Speaker 7: and if you'd write enough, but I bring ten books.
- 4:33Speaker 7: I'm like, you do get stuff optioned and it almost
- 4:36Speaker 7: never happens, nothing ever comes of it, so you've become
- 4:38Speaker 7: very jaded and skeptical. So he came to my house
- 4:41Speaker 7: and he's like, I really think this could be something,
- 4:43Speaker 7: and I was like, all right, Okay, yeah, no, it
- 4:45Speaker 7: can really be saying okay, all right.
- 4:47Speaker 6: And then the years passed and one.
- 4:50Speaker 7: Day I think I someone sent me a link to
- 4:53Speaker 7: an article on the Hollywood Reporter or a variety and
- 4:55Speaker 7: it said John c Riley cast to play Jerry Buss
- 5:00Speaker 7: in whatever show based on Laker book.
- 5:02Speaker 6: And I was like, that's interesting. I'm like, that's my book.
- 5:05Speaker 7: And then it was one after another after another, A
- 5:07Speaker 7: big actor is cast in this show and the beauty
- 5:11Speaker 7: was And I'm not just saying this. They really kept
- 5:13Speaker 7: me involved. They really kept me in the loop. But
- 5:15Speaker 7: they would ask me a ton of questions.
- 5:17Speaker 6: Is this right? Is that right? How does this work?
- 5:19Speaker 6: How does that work?
- 5:20Speaker 7: I go to set, My wife, my kids, and I
- 5:22Speaker 7: were all had little cameos in season one.
- 5:25Speaker 6: It was the Dreamy experience and it paid for my
- 5:28Speaker 6: college at my kid's college education. So it's great.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I love the show. I wish they would have continued
- 5:32Speaker 2: the show.
- 5:33Speaker 4: And I don't think it was a people didn't like
- 5:35Speaker 4: the show. Was COVID The reason why did they tell
- 5:37Speaker 4: you the show shut down?
- 5:40Speaker 7: I think HBO GOT really has gotten kind of cheap,
- 5:43Speaker 7: to be honest with you, and it was a very
- 5:46Speaker 7: expensive show to make no doubt about it. And it
- 5:48Speaker 7: also season two came out during the Writer's strike and
- 5:51Speaker 7: actors strike, the strike strikes, and nobody could promote it,
- 5:55Speaker 7: Like literally nobody could promote it, so none of the
- 5:57Speaker 7: stars could mention a peep about the show, and I
- 6:01Speaker 7: just think it kind.
- 6:02Speaker 6: Of died in a vacuum.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Guy was so good, so good, And I learned a
- 6:05Speaker 4: lot about pat Riley, like I didn't know. I thought
- 6:09Speaker 4: they cast him awesome, and I didn't know that he
- 6:12Speaker 4: came was like a broadkeep, obviously a player and then
- 6:14Speaker 4: a broadcaster. I mean, is that very similar to what
- 6:16Speaker 4: JJ Reddi's doing right now?
- 6:19Speaker 7: Well, Riley had a little more experience because he well
- 6:22Speaker 7: he had been a broadcaster and he also had been
- 6:24Speaker 7: an assistant to west Head early on JJ redd I've
- 6:28Speaker 7: never seen anything like this with JJ Reddick.
- 6:30Speaker 6: I don't think where guy literally has.
- 6:32Speaker 7: Zero coaching literally zero coaching experience. Ever, it seems pretty
- 6:37Speaker 7: new and pretty risky for me. Not a big fan
- 6:40Speaker 7: of that hire.
- 6:40Speaker 4: I got to say, your book Three Ring Circus, Kobe,
- 6:43Speaker 4: Shack Phil and the Crazy Years of the Lakers, which
- 6:45Speaker 4: is a different book, came out like six years later
- 6:47Speaker 4: and I was listening to you talk about Kobe and
- 6:49Speaker 4: how Kobe wasn't as cool as people assumed he was.
- 6:54Speaker 4: He was actually a bit awkward. Is that because he
- 6:57Speaker 4: lived in another country for most of his.
- 6:58Speaker 6: Life largely he was a kid.
- 7:01Speaker 7: He grew up largely in Italy, one of the few
- 7:03Speaker 7: black kids you know in his community in Italy. Then
- 7:05Speaker 7: he moves to America for high school and he lives.
- 7:09Speaker 7: He used to tell people from Philly, it's from Lower Marion,
- 7:13Speaker 7: which is a leafy suburb. Again, one of the few
- 7:16Speaker 7: black kids. He kind of grows up in this bubble.
- 7:20Speaker 7: He's very awkward, but he becomes a celebrity in high school.
- 7:23Speaker 7: He takes Brandy to his prom, which is kind of weird.
- 7:26Speaker 7: He had never met her, but he takes it to
- 7:27Speaker 7: the prom. When he was dating his wife Vanessa, no
- 7:32Speaker 7: one on the Lakers knew about it. Literally, nobody in
- 7:34Speaker 7: the Lakers knew about it. When he got married, he
- 7:36Speaker 7: didn't invite any of his teammates. His teammates didn't even
- 7:38Speaker 7: know he was getting married. He just had a real
- 7:40Speaker 7: kind of standof office approach to life.
- 7:43Speaker 6: I think he thought. When I interviewed Shaq for the
- 7:45Speaker 6: book and this is before Kobe died.
- 7:49Speaker 7: We were talking about their nicknames and how Shaq went
- 7:51Speaker 7: by like Shack Diesel on the Big Aristotle and Kobe
- 7:53Speaker 7: went by Black Mamba, and how Kobe genuinely thought of
- 7:57Speaker 7: himself as the Black Mamba, you know, like he wasn't
- 8:00Speaker 7: in on the joke. And Shaq said to me, he goes, uh,
- 8:03Speaker 7: now you know what I was dealing with. And I
- 8:05Speaker 7: just think, like it's weird to talk about a guy
- 8:08Speaker 7: after he died, and kind of but he was a
- 8:10Speaker 7: very just an awkward, socially awkward guy who grew, as
- 8:14Speaker 7: you know, by the time he was a dad.
- 8:15Speaker 6: I think he was much more kind of down with
- 8:17Speaker 6: it all.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Did Shaq and Kobe ever have a good relationship? Where
- 8:20Speaker 4: did he go from just kind of confused to bad?
- 8:23Speaker 4: And then how else do you play with somebody you hate?
- 8:26Speaker 6: I mean, I would say it was always it was
- 8:28Speaker 6: never great.
- 8:29Speaker 7: Like the thing is, Shaq really wanted Batman Robin, like
- 8:33Speaker 7: in his mind that was this what this was going
- 8:35Speaker 7: to be Batman Robin and he was Batman and Kobe
- 8:39Speaker 7: is Robin, and he wanted Kobe to come to him
- 8:41Speaker 7: and talk to him and you know, seek out wisdom
- 8:44Speaker 7: and Kobe wasn't that guy Kobe. When Kobe first came
- 8:48Speaker 7: to the Lakers his first team meeting training camp, He's
- 8:52Speaker 7: eighteen years old, barely eighteen years old, and all the
- 8:55Speaker 7: Lakers are standing around and the coach Stelle Harris has
- 8:57Speaker 7: them just introduce themselves. So Nick x so I was like, yeah, yo,
- 9:00Speaker 7: I'm Nick from went to Cincinnati, and Eddie Jones, I'm
- 9:03Speaker 7: Eddie Jones Temple Shack, Big Shack from LSU. And Kobe goes,
- 9:07Speaker 7: I'm Kobe and nobody here is gonna punk me Like
- 9:11Speaker 7: he was eighteen years old, and that was the way
- 9:13Speaker 7: he introduced himself to the other Lakers, and he just
- 9:16Speaker 7: would not allow that thing that Shaq wanted. And how
- 9:19Speaker 7: do they play together? Well, they were just great. Like
- 9:21Speaker 7: they were just great. And at the end of the day,
- 9:23Speaker 7: you don't have to love your teammates or necessarily even
- 9:25Speaker 7: like your teammates. If your teammates are great and they
- 9:27Speaker 7: help you win, and they help you get rich, and
- 9:29Speaker 7: they help you get all the spoils of success, it
- 9:31Speaker 7: always works out, usually works out.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Was that largely based with insecurity with Kobe early on,
- 9:36Speaker 4: it sounds like that's what I would say, and what
- 9:38Speaker 4: did say whenever I was wild I'm only moderately insecure
- 9:41Speaker 4: at this point, but when I was wildly insecure, I
- 9:44Speaker 4: would say stuff like that, like I'm the best, Nobody's
- 9:46Speaker 4: gonna take me.
- 9:47Speaker 6: I Actually, it's so funny.
- 9:48Speaker 7: When I was a young writer at the Tennessee and
- 9:50Speaker 7: I started my current in the nash and Nasville at
- 9:52Speaker 7: the Tennessee, and I was this cocky I'm.
- 9:55Speaker 6: The best writer here, blah blah blah blah blah. Nobody's
- 9:58Speaker 6: gonna be better or me.
- 10:00Speaker 7: I think youth, you sometimes just have that, and you
- 10:02Speaker 7: just think things that aren't that important are incredibly important.
- 10:05Speaker 7: And most people, you realize later, most people just want
- 10:08Speaker 7: to get home to their kids at the end of
- 10:09Speaker 7: the day, or you know whatever, see a movie or
- 10:11Speaker 7: relax on the couch. But to you, it's life and death.
- 10:14Speaker 7: I think for Kobe, he viewed every moment of his
- 10:16Speaker 7: NBA career as life or death and cutthroat and these
- 10:20Speaker 7: people are trying to take what's mine. And Shack was
- 10:23Speaker 7: always kind of in on the joke. He got the
- 10:25Speaker 7: joy of it all. He understood the spoils. He wanted
- 10:27Speaker 7: the spoilers in his off season.
- 10:28Speaker 6: He didn't want to be in a gym in the offseason.
- 10:30Speaker 6: He wanted to be in a pool. And I just
- 10:31Speaker 6: think there was a real just difference between their philosophies.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Bo Jackson, how fast was bo Jackson?
- 10:38Speaker 6: Four one three forty four one.
- 10:40Speaker 2: That's unbelievable to be that big? Are we sure?
- 10:43Speaker 7: One hundred percent? And here's a right, here's the crazier thing.
- 10:46Speaker 7: He goes to the Raiders and uh, you know, he
- 10:50Speaker 7: played baseball. Then he signed with the Raiders and they
- 10:53Speaker 7: set up a forty for him to run on grass
- 10:56Speaker 7: after practice one day and they measure it and Tom
- 10:58Speaker 7: Floores as a coach, and he says, run to forty
- 11:02Speaker 7: and he does a He does a four to one
- 11:04Speaker 7: nine on grass and Tom Floy as a coach, doesn't
- 11:08Speaker 7: believe it, and he says, measure that off again.
- 11:10Speaker 6: Blah blah blah, blah blah blah. He runs it again.
- 11:12Speaker 7: He runs a four to one seven. He was the
- 11:15Speaker 7: fastest man to ever play in the NFL, There's no
- 11:17Speaker 7: question about it. And he was two hundred and twenty
- 11:19Speaker 7: pounds at his max. Insist in sand if.
- 11:21Speaker 4: He was a four to one nine or four one
- 11:23Speaker 4: seven with a handheld. Do we think he might have
- 11:24Speaker 4: even been a bit faster.
- 11:27Speaker 7: I mean, he might have been. It's possible. He I mean,
- 11:29Speaker 7: the four to one three was official, and he d wait.
- 11:32Speaker 7: The craziest story to me about his speed in a
- 11:35Speaker 7: lot of ways is when he played with the Royals.
- 11:37Speaker 7: His first game was against a White Sox uh September one.
- 11:41Speaker 6: Nineteen eighty six. He's a late season call up.
- 11:45Speaker 7: His first at bat, he hits a ground ball to
- 11:48Speaker 7: second base to second base, and this is on tape.
- 11:51Speaker 6: He beats it out.
- 11:53Speaker 7: He beats out the ground ball to second base for
- 11:54Speaker 7: his first major league kit and behind home plate, all
- 11:57Speaker 7: the scouts are clocking it.
- 11:58Speaker 6: They off their clocks. Everyone's like, what did you get?
- 12:00Speaker 6: What'd you get? And they're like, no, I got it wrong,
- 12:02Speaker 6: I got it wrong, And finance like, what did you get?
- 12:04Speaker 7: It was the second fastest recorded time ever from home
- 12:07Speaker 7: to first by a right handed hitter, and this was
- 12:10Speaker 7: his first major league at bat.
- 12:12Speaker 6: He was just preposterously fast.
- 12:14Speaker 2: And to be that big in that fast, like that's
- 12:17Speaker 2: is he? In your mind?
- 12:18Speaker 4: Of the athletes that you've seen the most, what could
- 12:21Speaker 4: have been had injuries not got them?
- 12:23Speaker 6: Yeah? I mean in a lot of ways. That's why
- 12:25Speaker 6: I wrote the book.
- 12:26Speaker 7: I think that the characters of the book are Bo
- 12:27Speaker 7: Jackson and what could have been Bo Jackson, because there's
- 12:30Speaker 7: this whole question mark over what if he had stayed healthy?
- 12:33Speaker 7: Would he have become Gary Sheffield? Would you become Mike Trout?
- 12:37Speaker 6: And in football would he have been an Eric Dickerson?
- 12:39Speaker 7: Would you have been to Walter Payton? Is this these
- 12:41Speaker 7: questions that hang over him that make it really interesting.
- 12:43Speaker 4: My buddy Eddie's a massive Dallas Cowboys fan, huge, massive,
- 12:47Speaker 4: Like for gifts, I got him a seat from the
- 12:50Speaker 4: old Cowboys stadium with like old cowboys that had signed it.
- 12:53Speaker 4: We went and we're lucky enough to go fly around
- 12:55Speaker 4: with Jerry Jones last year, Like we try to pursue
- 12:58Speaker 4: Cowboys stuff because he loves them so much. And you
- 13:00Speaker 4: wrote a whole book, the Glory Days and the Party
- 13:02Speaker 4: Knights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty, which was a lot
- 13:04Speaker 4: of the like the nineties cowboys, right, the Jerry Jones
- 13:07Speaker 4: or the Jimmy Johnson.
- 13:09Speaker 2: How wild were they?
- 13:11Speaker 6: Oh my god?
- 13:12Speaker 7: I mean, I've really written two books about wild teams.
- 13:15Speaker 7: One was about the eighty six Mets called the back
- 13:17Speaker 7: guys one and there's this book called Boys Will Be Boys.
- 13:20Speaker 7: The Cowboys are the craziest team there. I mean they
- 13:23Speaker 7: literally had a place called the White House, which is
- 13:25Speaker 7: a suburban house where they would as Nate Newton, a
- 13:30Speaker 7: former offensive lineman, used to say, we're just bringing back
- 13:33Speaker 7: some hoes.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Why that's a big deal, Cowboys.
- 13:39Speaker 7: There's a there's a moment in the book later in
- 13:42Speaker 7: the run in the Dynasty toward the end. One day
- 13:46Speaker 7: they used to bring a barber named Vinnie to training
- 13:48Speaker 7: camp to cut everyone's hair. And one day Everett McIvor,
- 13:52Speaker 7: a young offensive lineman, goes in the barber chair and
- 13:56Speaker 7: mikeae irvin feels like his turn has been split skipped,
- 14:00Speaker 7: and he says, yo, get out of my chair. And
- 14:02Speaker 7: ever mciverer's like, I'm not getting out of the chair.
- 14:04Speaker 7: Irvn's like get out of the chair.
- 14:05Speaker 6: Everyone.
- 14:06Speaker 7: Guyver's like I'm not getting out of the chair. Every
- 14:08Speaker 7: mcgiver stands up, punches Michael Irvin. Michael Irvin grabs a
- 14:12Speaker 7: barber scissors and stabs ever mckiv in the neck.
- 14:16Speaker 6: Whoa blood everywhere.
- 14:18Speaker 7: They have to call paramedics, And at that point Michael
- 14:20Speaker 7: Irvan was on probation, and they never called in the
- 14:23Speaker 7: crime because if they did, Mike, everyone probably kind of.
- 14:27Speaker 6: They were crazy. They were just crazy. They were joyful,
- 14:29Speaker 6: but they were crazy.
- 14:30Speaker 3: How hey, Jeff, how challenging was it to write about
- 14:34Speaker 3: the Cowboys them being such a huge image, Like was
- 14:36Speaker 3: there a lot of.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Red tape that you had lawyers?
- 14:38Speaker 1: Yeah? How does what's that process?
- 14:41Speaker 6: It wasn't.
- 14:41Speaker 7: Actually, First of all, it helps that they're public figures,
- 14:44Speaker 7: Like the main characters are public figures, and a lot
- 14:47Speaker 7: of their stuff is just out there, and there are
- 14:50Speaker 7: a lot of police reports back then to being honest
- 14:52Speaker 7: in Dallas from the team and the different instances that happened.
- 14:55Speaker 6: And the other thing is, okay, this is probably two
- 14:58Speaker 6: nuts and bats.
- 14:59Speaker 7: But like my general last week when I write these
- 15:00Speaker 7: books is like, all right, Mike Irvin has been interviewed
- 15:04Speaker 7: one hundred thousand.
- 15:05Speaker 6: Times about his time with the Cowboys, But the.
- 15:08Speaker 7: Backup running back hasn't, the third string quarterback hasn't, the
- 15:12Speaker 7: guy who was in training camp for two weeks in
- 15:13Speaker 7: the University of Delaware hasn't. Like there are all these
- 15:17Speaker 7: people who are there, who are eyewitnesses who experienced it,
- 15:20Speaker 7: who were part of it who either have never told
- 15:22Speaker 7: their stories or just told their stories to like a
- 15:24Speaker 7: wife or you know kids.
- 15:26Speaker 6: So those are my people, and that's how you get
- 15:28Speaker 6: a lot of good information.
- 15:30Speaker 3: I saw you said that your son's names Emmett. Are
- 15:32Speaker 3: you a Cowboys fan or where did that come from?
- 15:34Speaker 6: No, I grew up a very sad New York Jets fan.
- 15:36Speaker 6: We just picked the name because we liked the name.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Okay, I thought there was more there.
- 15:40Speaker 6: Oh good, No, nothing, Sorry.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I got to know Emmett later a little bit.
- 15:44Speaker 4: I did Dancing with the Stars and I ended up
- 15:46Speaker 4: I won, and but Emmett went before this sounds so lame.
- 15:50Speaker 4: But before like my last dance. I don't dance. It
- 15:52Speaker 4: just feels weird to say before my last dance. But
- 15:54Speaker 4: before my last dance, I was in the hallway and
- 15:56Speaker 4: I was like, oh man, because I was not a
- 15:57Speaker 4: good dancer. Emmittt came out and talk to me because
- 16:00Speaker 4: he had won like two seasons before and was like,
- 16:03Speaker 4: here's the deal and like really inspiring, like super kind guy.
- 16:06Speaker 4: But that's the older Emit like what was Emmett like
- 16:09Speaker 4: as a player?
- 16:11Speaker 6: And it was cool.
- 16:12Speaker 7: I mean, em the thing about those guys, and the
- 16:16Speaker 7: thing about a lot of high level athletes.
- 16:17Speaker 6: And this sounds cliche, but it's really true. People like to.
- 16:20Speaker 7: Think that it's all about team, team, team, team, but
- 16:23Speaker 7: the way teams win, truly, the way teams win is
- 16:27Speaker 7: by a hyper focus on individual performance. So Emmitt Smith
- 16:30Speaker 7: was not the most like racious cowboy as far as
- 16:33Speaker 7: I'm gonna help the young running backs, I'm gonna give
- 16:35Speaker 7: you advice on blocking schemes, blah blah blah. He was
- 16:38Speaker 7: hyper hyper focused on him and he definitely was a
- 16:42Speaker 7: stats not obsessed, but stats mattered to him. Breaking fifteen
- 16:47Speaker 7: hundred yards, breaking seventeen hundred yards, getting more than fifteen touchdowns,
- 16:51Speaker 7: all those things really mattered to him, and he got
- 16:53Speaker 7: criticized for that a little bit. But the truth of
- 16:55Speaker 7: the matter is in football, just like in baseball and basketball,
- 16:58Speaker 7: really like being obsessed with stats doesn't hurt your team generally,
- 17:01Speaker 7: it helps your team.
- 17:02Speaker 6: So he wasn't like the most team first player, but
- 17:06Speaker 6: I think that's part of what made him great.
- 17:07Speaker 4: Actually, have you been public about the athletes that have
- 17:10Speaker 4: been the most difficult for you to cover? And I've
- 17:12Speaker 4: heard you talk about like a Jeff Kent Barry Bonds, like,
- 17:15Speaker 4: who is the most difficult that you've said or feel
- 17:17Speaker 4: comforable saying? And that was surprising, And who was like
- 17:20Speaker 4: the coolest? That was also surprising.
- 17:24Speaker 7: Well, I mean I wrote a story for Sports Illustrated
- 17:26Speaker 7: in nineteen ninety nine about a racist relief picture named
- 17:29Speaker 7: John Rocker.
- 17:30Speaker 4: I don't know if I could ask about that. I
- 17:31Speaker 4: don't know how sensitive that was that. I mean that
- 17:33Speaker 4: don't care. I mean I watched a news clip on
- 17:35Speaker 4: it yesterday when they were talking about that he wrote
- 17:38Speaker 4: to John Rocker that you remember on the subway with
- 17:41Speaker 4: the thing that John Rocker was. I mean, he was
- 17:44Speaker 4: kind of done after that. So what was that like?
- 17:46Speaker 4: And what was John Rocker really like?
- 17:49Speaker 7: So John Rocker was I I went down to profile him.
- 17:57Speaker 7: I'd written about him, and it was nineteen ninety nine
- 17:59Speaker 7: National Championship Series and you had to turn around these
- 18:02Speaker 7: quick stories. So I actually interviewed John Rocker during the
- 18:05Speaker 7: playoffs and he was pretty good, but I didn't get
- 18:07Speaker 7: that much time with him, and the Braids wound up
- 18:10Speaker 7: being swept in the World Series by the Yankees. So
- 18:12Speaker 7: my editors asked me to go down and touch it up,
- 18:14Speaker 7: touch up the story, see if he'll spend some time
- 18:16Speaker 7: with you. And I called John Rocker's agent and he's like, oh, man,
- 18:20Speaker 7: you're gonna love John. You should totally spend the day
- 18:23Speaker 7: with him, and this is gonna be great. And I
- 18:24Speaker 7: was like, oh, this is awesome. Rocker picks me up
- 18:27Speaker 7: in his car and this is like first thing.
- 18:32Speaker 6: We're driving and there's a car in front of us.
- 18:35Speaker 7: It's driving a little radically and Rocker just starts bashing
- 18:38Speaker 7: Asian women and how they drive, and it was a
- 18:41Speaker 7: white guy driving the car. Like we literally passed and
- 18:43Speaker 7: it's a white guy. We get to a toll booth
- 18:48Speaker 7: and it's when it was in the old days when
- 18:50Speaker 7: we had to throw change into a big net. And
- 18:54Speaker 7: he throws some chains in net, doesn't open, throws some
- 18:56Speaker 7: door chains in thatt doesn't open.
- 18:59Speaker 6: Guy behind us starts talking.
- 19:02Speaker 7: Rocker rolls down the window, gives the guy the middle finger,
- 19:04Speaker 7: says f you, and then spits on the toll booth
- 19:08Speaker 7: machine and somehow it opened.
- 19:09Speaker 6: I don't know what happened.
- 19:12Speaker 7: We were we I mean, it's crazy. The whole day
- 19:16Speaker 7: he was like he didn't like foreigners, definitely didn't like gays.
- 19:20Speaker 6: He hated New York City.
- 19:22Speaker 7: He called a black teammate a fat monkey, like on
- 19:25Speaker 7: and on and on, and I'm just spending.
- 19:26Speaker 6: All this time with him.
- 19:28Speaker 7: And there was a moment in the John Rocker experience,
- 19:30Speaker 7: and no one ever seems to get it, but I'm
- 19:32Speaker 7: going to say it here anyway that where people don't
- 19:34Speaker 7: to me, it was the most telling moment in a
- 19:35Speaker 7: lot of ways, which is we went to get lunch
- 19:39Speaker 7: and we're walking down a strip mall and he had
- 19:41Speaker 7: a pen in his hand and he dropped the pen.
- 19:44Speaker 7: And I picked up the pen and I said, hey,
- 19:45Speaker 7: you drop this, and he goes, He goes, uh.
- 19:48Speaker 6: Nah, Man, I meant to do that.
- 19:50Speaker 7: And I was like, you just meant, like you just
- 19:53Speaker 7: meant to drop a pen, like you were holding a pen,
- 19:56Speaker 7: and in your brain what you do with a pen
- 19:58Speaker 7: when you don't want it anymore is just drop it.
- 20:00Speaker 7: And I just thought, like, what kind of weird and
- 20:02Speaker 7: warped creature does that.
- 20:04Speaker 6: So the story.
- 20:05Speaker 7: Came out, It blew up, it went crazy viral. It
- 20:10Speaker 7: was really weird. And later I saw John. That story
- 20:15Speaker 7: came out at the end of ninety nine. I saw
- 20:16Speaker 7: him during the two thousand season in Atlanta, and he
- 20:19Speaker 7: was not happy to see me at all.
- 20:20Speaker 6: It was a very ugly confrontation.
- 20:22Speaker 4: Did he not think that would or did he not
- 20:24Speaker 4: think what he was doing was as vile as it was.
- 20:28Speaker 7: I think he thought we were two white guys driving
- 20:32Speaker 7: in his car in Georgia and that I would be
- 20:36Speaker 7: entertained and amused by his comments.
- 20:39Speaker 6: That's honestly what I think. I can't read his mind,
- 20:41Speaker 6: but that's my opinion.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I mean, I remember that story. Wow, I remember vividly.
- 20:45Speaker 2: It's one of the first sports stories that I remember
- 20:47Speaker 2: blowing up.
- 20:48Speaker 4: It's crazy to use the word viral, but yeah, that's
- 20:50Speaker 4: probably the first viral sports story that I can think of.
- 20:53Speaker 4: That and like magic Johnson, right, I would put that
- 20:55Speaker 4: in where the whole world knew of.
- 20:57Speaker 2: The story and it came from sports.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Jeff. Were you nervous up putting that story out at all?
- 21:02Speaker 6: It's funny. I was, No. I wasn't because I think
- 21:07Speaker 6: in journalism.
- 21:08Speaker 7: I know in journalism, like I was sent there to
- 21:10Speaker 7: write a profile of John Rocker, Like your job is
- 21:13Speaker 7: to find out who this person is.
- 21:14Speaker 6: When a person opens.
- 21:15Speaker 7: Up to you like that, that's a gift, Like that's
- 21:17Speaker 7: actually a journalist's gift.
- 21:19Speaker 6: What I was nervous about.
- 21:20Speaker 7: Basically what happened is in two thousand and June, the
- 21:23Speaker 7: Braves and Yankees were playing. We had a meeting in
- 21:26Speaker 7: the SSI offices and they needed some reporter to go
- 21:28Speaker 7: down and cover the series. And I said I'll do
- 21:31Speaker 7: it because I just always I was taught as a
- 21:34Speaker 7: young writer that accountability matters, and you have to you know,
- 21:37Speaker 7: if you write something about someone, you have to give
- 21:39Speaker 7: them the chance to confront you. So I go down
- 21:43Speaker 7: to it. This is a true story. I go down
- 21:44Speaker 7: in Atlanta Yankees, Braves. I know I have to at
- 21:46Speaker 7: least make the effort to see John Rocker. I spend
- 21:49Speaker 7: ninety eight percent of the pre pregame time in the
- 21:51Speaker 7: Yankees vicinity, but I know I have to.
- 21:53Speaker 6: See John Rocker.
- 21:55Speaker 7: Also, just for people who probably don't remember, John Rocker
- 21:58Speaker 7: was about six foot four to twenty juiced up that
- 22:01Speaker 7: whole thing. So I finally walked down through the bowels
- 22:05Speaker 7: of the stadium to the other end, and I'm like,
- 22:08Speaker 7: I'm definitely nervous. My hands, I'm sure coldn't sweat and
- 22:10Speaker 7: all that. Looking down a notepad, and I hear a
- 22:13Speaker 7: voice a very familiar voice, and it says, you don't
- 22:17Speaker 7: know how long I've been waiting for this. Oh, And
- 22:20Speaker 7: I look up and there's John Rocker and he comes
- 22:22Speaker 7: up to me and he gets like this far away
- 22:24Speaker 7: from my face, as close.
- 22:25Speaker 6: As you could be, and he's jabbing me. Do you
- 22:28Speaker 6: have any idea what you did to me? Do you
- 22:30Speaker 6: have any idea? Ef and did to my family? Blah
- 22:32Speaker 6: blah blah. I did this, I did.
- 22:33Speaker 7: My one moment of courage was he goes, I did this,
- 22:36Speaker 7: I did that. I bought you lunch and I said, well,
- 22:39Speaker 7: I paid for lunch.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Bah.
- 22:43Speaker 6: So I always tell young journalists always paid for lunch.
- 22:45Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 22:47Speaker 6: So that was when I was nervous not writing it.
- 22:49Speaker 6: But that was scary.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Well, I have a couple of minutes left with Jeff.
- 22:52Speaker 4: But if you go to Jeff Pearlman dot com, you
- 22:53Speaker 4: can see all the books he's written.
- 22:55Speaker 2: It's all.
- 22:55Speaker 4: I mean, he's covered everyone that's in our galaxy of
- 22:59Speaker 4: major sports heros and like brands. And so go to
- 23:03Speaker 4: Jeff Pearlan dot com. You have a podcast called two
- 23:05Speaker 4: Writers Slinging Yang.
- 23:07Speaker 2: What is that? What are you guys doing over there?
- 23:09Speaker 7: I just every week I talk to a different journalist
- 23:11Speaker 7: to a writer about the craft and sort of what
- 23:13Speaker 7: goes into it.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Do you do sports? Are you talking sports or are you
- 23:16Speaker 2: just talking to write it?
- 23:17Speaker 7: Like a it's you know sports, But a lot of
- 23:20Speaker 7: it is about sort of breaking down stories, breaking down articles,
- 23:23Speaker 7: breaking down approaches to writing. I'm a writing nerd more
- 23:26Speaker 7: than a sports nerd.
- 23:26Speaker 6: I'm a writing nerd.
- 23:27Speaker 4: He did a video Eddie where he's writing and he's
- 23:29Speaker 4: writing a book now about two poc comes out next year.
- 23:31Speaker 4: Oh cool, and so but he's like, hey, I like
- 23:33Speaker 4: to write in public. I'm writing at a coffee shop
- 23:35Speaker 4: and he does like a pan of the table in
- 23:37Speaker 4: the coffee shop. It's like stacks of paper, like from
- 23:41Speaker 4: the ground up to his elbows.
- 23:43Speaker 2: He's got a computer. It's like this, but in a
- 23:46Speaker 2: public space. It's unbelievable.
- 23:48Speaker 4: And I just comment. I was like, shout up to
- 23:50Speaker 4: the coffee shop for allowing you to do that right there, right, Yeah, that's.
- 23:55Speaker 6: I'm big in mall food courts.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Also, so three final questions and these can be like
- 24:01Speaker 4: quick hitters. But I know you did Brett Fav. You
- 24:03Speaker 4: did Gunslinger Brett Farv as a kid, seemed like a
- 24:06Speaker 4: cool dude. Brett Farav as an adult seems like not
- 24:08Speaker 4: a cool dude. Just as I've grown up, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 4: as a kid, he's awesome as I got to be
- 24:13Speaker 4: an adult, and like, I don't think I would like
- 24:15Speaker 4: Brett Farv as a person. Did you spend much time
- 24:18Speaker 4: with Brett doing the book or was it mostly his
- 24:20Speaker 4: the other planets revolving around him?
- 24:22Speaker 2: And what do you think of Brett?
- 24:23Speaker 7: Well, all right, real crazy quick story is when I
- 24:27Speaker 7: was working in the book, I didn't know if Brett
- 24:28Speaker 7: would talk to me, and I DMed his sister I'm
- 24:32Speaker 7: Brandy on Facebook and I said, Hey, I'm working on
- 24:35Speaker 7: a book about your brothers. Anyway, if I come to Mississippi,
- 24:37Speaker 7: you would be willing to meet for coffee?
- 24:39Speaker 6: And she's like, is he is he helping you?
- 24:41Speaker 7: And I go, well, not yet, and he goes, well,
- 24:42Speaker 7: if you come down, let me know I'm in Mississippi.
- 24:45Speaker 6: I dm R.
- 24:45Speaker 7: I'm like, any chance you can meet for coffee? She says,
- 24:48Speaker 7: I'm at the house with our mom. Why don't you
- 24:49Speaker 7: just come over to the house. I'm like, Okay, I
- 24:52Speaker 7: go to the house. His mom, who's awesome. Banita FIV says,
- 24:56Speaker 7: is Brett working with you on the book? And I'm like, no,
- 24:59Speaker 7: I hope you will, but I mean I hope we'll
- 25:00Speaker 7: talk to me. She goes, all right, what do you
- 25:03Speaker 7: want to know? And I probably spent two hours over there.
- 25:06Speaker 7: They send me home with Brett's scrapbooks, literally his scrap.
- 25:09Speaker 6: Books with the old newspaper articles and stuff.
- 25:11Speaker 7: They were amazing, And Brett never talked to me, but
- 25:14Speaker 7: I got every member of his family, which is a
- 25:17Speaker 7: very unusual experience. As for now, he's a disappointment, Like
- 25:21Speaker 7: I don't think he'd be a bad guy to hang
- 25:22Speaker 7: out with, but he you know, the alleged welfare fraud
- 25:25Speaker 7: is definitely troubling. Sending picks of his privates to a
- 25:29Speaker 7: reporter cybline reporter troubling. So I can't say I'm a
- 25:32Speaker 7: huge fan of his.
- 25:33Speaker 4: We do a show where we travel around the country
- 25:35Speaker 4: and we've been this is the last question. We've been
- 25:36Speaker 4: able to work out with a bunch of teams from
- 25:38Speaker 4: the Carolina Panthers or you see a football or the
- 25:41Speaker 4: Saint Louis Cardinals and so teams let us come in
- 25:44Speaker 4: and we talked to the coaches and the players and
- 25:45Speaker 4: then we work out with the team and it's been
- 25:47Speaker 4: a really cool experience, and we don't most people are
- 25:49Speaker 4: pretty inviting, most teams, you know, they know we have
- 25:53Speaker 4: a decent platform and so they're like, come on in,
- 25:55Speaker 4: roll out the red carpet.
- 25:56Speaker 2: It's been awesome.
- 25:56Speaker 4: But the one person I cannot get to respond to anything.
- 25:59Speaker 4: It's my favorite player growing up. And so I don't
- 26:01Speaker 4: even know if you have a story about him. But
- 26:04Speaker 4: I was the biggest Mark Grace fan. I was a
- 26:06Speaker 4: massive Cubs fan. What do you know about Mark Grace
- 26:10Speaker 4: as a player, because you know, stories tend to be
- 26:12Speaker 4: pretty wild about Mark Grace and the slump Busters into
- 26:15Speaker 4: all the stories that have you know, made.
- 26:17Speaker 2: It through the years. You know slump Buster is no
- 26:18Speaker 2: he'd have sex with a fat girl to break a slump.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I didn't know that. You never heard that.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Uh yeah, did you ever cover the Cubs back in
- 26:27Speaker 4: the nineties early two thousands and Mark Grace at all?
- 26:30Speaker 7: So first of all, I want to say, I do
- 26:31Speaker 7: the same thing when I'm going to ut when I
- 26:32Speaker 7: have writer's block.
- 26:33Speaker 1: So I.
- 26:37Speaker 6: Covered him with the Diamondbacks.
- 26:38Speaker 7: He was with the Diamondbacks later in his career, won
- 26:40Speaker 7: a World Series with the Diamondbacks in one and he
- 26:44Speaker 7: was awesome.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Mark Grace was awesome to cover.
- 26:47Speaker 7: He was inviting, open, talkative, clubhouse leader. Everyone loved him,
- 26:53Speaker 7: go to guy, funny crash, but not in a really
- 26:58Speaker 7: bad way.
- 26:59Speaker 6: One of the best.
- 27:00Speaker 7: Definitely one of the best talkers I covered during my
- 27:02Speaker 7: time this. I'm actually survive surprised that he's not open
- 27:06Speaker 7: to this because he seems like the kind of guy
- 27:07Speaker 7: whould be a hundred percent.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Yeah, we can.
- 27:08Speaker 4: I can't even get to him much. I don't think
- 27:10Speaker 4: he has social media, but yeah, that's the guy. Him
- 27:12Speaker 4: and Sting, the wrestler is I can't get Sting either.
- 27:14Speaker 3: That's odd.
- 27:15Speaker 2: That's my two odd guys that will not respond to me.
- 27:18Speaker 4: But let me say this, you guys Jeff Perlman dot
- 27:20Speaker 4: com for all of his books. Also, again I'm not lying,
- 27:24Speaker 4: it's my favorite TikTok. It's Jeff Perlman, author on TikTok.
- 27:27Speaker 4: That's that is your account name, right, Jeff Proman author. Yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 4: it's my favorite TikTok.
- 27:31Speaker 1: No filters either.
- 27:32Speaker 4: He does well. Dog tongue comes out sometimes. Hey, Jeff,
- 27:38Speaker 4: really appreciate the time massive fan and when the Tupac
- 27:41Speaker 4: book is ready, come on, let's promote it.
- 27:42Speaker 2: That'd be cool, that'd be great.
- 27:44Speaker 6: Thank you so much for having me on all.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Right, Jeff Cyboddy follow him.
- 27:48Speaker 4: Jeff Perlman, author TikTok At Jeff Perlman on Twitter.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Yeah, cool, love it. I could have done another.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Hour with him easily, for sure. I felt bad I
- 27:57Speaker 4: was holding that. I was already holding him so long.
- 28:00Speaker 5: I think he was enjoying it though, Yeah, yo, I
- 28:03Speaker 5: don't know.
- 28:03Speaker 2: I texted him. I was like, hey, you want to
- 28:04Speaker 2: come on the show, and I felt weird.
- 28:07Speaker 1: How'd you guys number?

- 28:22Speaker 4: going to call you. Then I felt like there was
- 28:23Speaker 4: a douchebag thing to say, and I was like, hold on,

- 28:43Speaker 4: So Jeff Pearl mcoo. We're gonna a little trivia game
- 28:45Speaker 4: coming up in a second too. Let's take a break,
- 28:49Speaker 4: so kick off. Kevin has a game he bought for
- 28:50Speaker 4: five bucks at TJ max Perfect.
- 28:52Speaker 2: It's an ESPN game. Yep, what years is from? I
- 28:55Speaker 2: don't know anything about it. He just opened it.

- 28:59Speaker 5: You know when you're walking out and you see those
- 29:01Speaker 5: little like trinkets and I'm like, you know, what is it?
- 29:02Speaker 2: A new game?
- 29:03Speaker 5: I think?
- 29:04Speaker 2: So, like what's the back?
- 29:05Speaker 3: What are some questions on the back, eddie, It's it's
- 29:07Speaker 3: got it broken down by baseball, football, basketball, all sports.
- 29:11Speaker 4: We try to play the game once and I bought
- 29:12Speaker 4: like euro It was like euro Sports. I was like,
- 29:14Speaker 4: let's play a sports game. Soccer, Yeah, this cricket player.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's twenty twenty four, it's up to date.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Okay, So Katie and I will play Eddie and Reid.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Let's go what Well, first, Oka read and I will
- 29:28Speaker 2: take on you and Katie.
- 29:30Speaker 8: Well, no, we need to have a rematch.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Remember we had.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on you pick who you I think?
- 29:35Speaker 1: Yeah, well I want you.
- 29:37Speaker 2: I won't you to show me that way.
- 29:41Speaker 4: But I think one, one, and four should be on
- 29:44Speaker 4: a team, and two and three in the ranking process
- 29:46Speaker 4: of who we think is the best at trivia. Okay,
- 29:48Speaker 4: So I'm just would you assume that I'm one of
- 29:50Speaker 4: us four?
- 29:51Speaker 1: Are you opposed? Yes?
- 29:52Speaker 3: But are you opposed to having someone else read? And
- 29:54Speaker 3: Kevin being a player?
- 29:56Speaker 2: It's his game, he brought it, so.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Okay, I'll take Katie.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, I.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Know Walter Peyton was.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Okay, trade place this guys, if you don't mind.
- 30:10Speaker 9: Yeah, no one wanted to read.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I'll pick and not read.
- 30:14Speaker 5: So these have points on him to do that. Just
- 30:17Speaker 5: whatever the game is, Okay.
- 30:19Speaker 4: So we'll do How about we do ten questions and
- 30:21Speaker 4: we'll write our answer down. I don't know how we're
- 30:24Speaker 4: going to communicate this, but right we'll write our answer down.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Ready, partners with the most points? How does it work?
- 30:31Speaker 5: Kevin draft the cards?
- 30:33Speaker 2: He's actually really smart and I was pretty happy to
- 30:36Speaker 2: get her. And I'm about to go off. Y'all don't
- 30:38Speaker 2: even know. I've been lying this whole time.
- 30:42Speaker 5: So each team gets seven cards, is what it says.
- 30:45Speaker 5: Or I can just read them. Yeah, IM just gonna
- 30:47Speaker 5: read them. Okay, and then however many points you get,
- 30:49Speaker 5: so we're doing what ten?
- 30:50Speaker 6: Is that? He said?
- 30:51Speaker 5: Okay, go ahead, and I'm gonna tell you how many
- 30:53Speaker 5: points each card is worth.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Read. You can actually get a chair. Just come over here, okay.
- 30:59Speaker 4: I mean I didn't suggest that earlier. He wasn't being
- 31:01Speaker 4: a dumb I actually told him to sit there. But
- 31:03Speaker 4: if you want to come, just sit.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Over here or stand over here, whatever, All right.
- 31:09Speaker 5: Kevin, Okay, first question to Bobby and Reid here Okay,
- 31:14Speaker 5: we're three points. You'll be my boy.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Read over here.
- 31:16Speaker 5: It's basketball. I'm rooting for you.
- 31:19Speaker 2: We both spoke.
- 31:19Speaker 5: Oh you got to get three points here for basketball. Oh,
- 31:26Speaker 5: there's five questions on he just pick one the first?
- 31:28Speaker 5: Which player did not average twenty points in twenty rebounds
- 31:31Speaker 5: per game during his college career. There's four choices.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Here, No choices are they all choiced?
- 31:37Speaker 5: That's what these are are?
- 31:39Speaker 2: They all multiple choice because if so, will play choices.
- 31:42Speaker 6: Yeah, they're all multiple like that.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Okay, that's not happening. It's consistent, Yeah it is, it is.
- 31:46Speaker 5: Okay, you read him off ahead, Okay, Bill Russell, wait
- 31:49Speaker 5: the question again.
- 31:50Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 31:51Speaker 5: Which player did not average twenty points in twenty rebounds
- 31:54Speaker 5: per game during college? Okay, Bill Russell, Kermit Washington, doctor
- 32:02Speaker 5: J or Wilt Chamberlain did not average twenty and twenty.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Not average twenty twenty during college? Okay, can you name
- 32:12Speaker 3: the names again?
- 32:13Speaker 5: Yep, Bill Russell, I'm gonna guess Kermit Washington, Okay, Julius Irving,
- 32:19Speaker 5: doctor j. It seems like, and Wilt Chamberlain.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Okay, what do you think, hey, bones, do we all agree?
- 32:25Speaker 3: We have to agree on it?
- 32:26Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 32:26Speaker 3: You okay, it.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Is, Mike.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I don't think it's gonna go ahead.
- 32:32Speaker 1: No, no, no, what we're talking.
- 32:35Speaker 2: That's that's good.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I think, I mean, I don't know.
- 32:37Speaker 1: I mean I think they want you to go Kermit
- 32:38Speaker 1: because no one knows Kermit, right, I don't think what.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Cutting out?
- 32:47Speaker 1: Oh, I I agree, We're good.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm good. Yeah, I guess the time, I guess
- 32:51Speaker 4: take forever. Yeah, it's true anyway, you guys have Oh,
- 32:53Speaker 4: we have doctor J. So we didn't bet Kerman either
- 32:56Speaker 4: for the same reason you did it, because you heard
- 32:58Speaker 4: oh you heard us, they heard us. We had already
- 33:01Speaker 4: said that we thought you heard us.
- 33:03Speaker 1: No, I didn't hear you.
- 33:04Speaker 2: We felt like, that's so easy, that right.
- 33:06Speaker 4: We picked Wilt Chamberlain because he's the one I definitely
- 33:09Speaker 4: wouldn't think.
- 33:10Speaker 2: We were total opposite effect.
- 33:12Speaker 5: And you picked doctor J. Yeah, just Bobby and Bobby
- 33:15Speaker 5: and read three points Gilt Chamberlain.
- 33:17Speaker 2: That was because I told Eddie we should pick Wilt chain.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Oh you said that.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I thought you said probably not Will because already, arguably
- 33:23Speaker 3: the only.
- 33:23Speaker 4: Reason I picked Will, because that was absolutely the one
- 33:26Speaker 4: answer people wouldn't pick.
- 33:27Speaker 2: So I figured that's why that was a question.
- 33:28Speaker 10: You like it?
- 33:30Speaker 6: All right?
- 33:31Speaker 5: So after I asked a question, we'll get what fifteen seconds?
- 33:33Speaker 2: Yeah, three points for us?
- 33:34Speaker 5: Three points?
- 33:35Speaker 2: Suck at Eddie?

- 33:43Speaker 5: The first question, which pro skateboarder owns birdhouse?
- 33:48Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 33:49Speaker 5: I mean, well you guys all know that, right, I
- 33:50Speaker 5: don't need to read names.
- 33:52Speaker 3: No, no names, Hey, no names for double points.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Don't need names.
- 33:57Speaker 4: Let's do names double if you want to come in

- 34:14Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 34:14Speaker 1: We both got it.
- 34:15Speaker 4: We should have the points though, okay, point five to two? Yeah,

- 48:29Speaker 2: Good.
- 48:31Speaker 4: What's your favorite encounter with an athlete as a kid man?
- 48:35Speaker 4: Did you ever get to meet a professional athlete?
- 48:37Speaker 11: No?
- 48:37Speaker 3: Since I was in the valley down in South South Texas,
- 48:40Speaker 3: Like it was so rare. The I think the first
- 48:42Speaker 3: celebrity I ever met athlete was was our boy Tony
- 48:47Speaker 3: Casiez when he came to the h GIV sat there
- 48:49Speaker 3: after they won their Super their first Super Bowl. He
- 48:52Speaker 3: did like a tour of grocery stores and he made
- 48:54Speaker 3: it down there.
- 48:55Speaker 2: So Hib paid him to do the Yeah.
- 48:57Speaker 3: And then shortly after that, I remember Jay Noovic went
- 49:00Speaker 3: to I think a bunch of it wasn't sports clips.
- 49:03Speaker 3: It was another like haircut place, like maybe just a cut.
- 49:07Speaker 3: Does that sound familiar? It's like one of those like
- 49:09Speaker 3: you know, haircut plays then he did a tour of those.
- 49:11Speaker 3: So I'm at Tony Casiez and then Je Novichak rafter that.
- 49:14Speaker 4: The only athlete I ever met as a kid was
- 49:17Speaker 4: a guy named John Lepley and he pitched for the
- 49:19Speaker 4: Arkansas Travelers.
- 49:21Speaker 1: And but big deal. That's a big deal, huge.
- 49:25Speaker 4: Deal because they never signed during games. But I would
- 49:28Speaker 4: go stand by the ballpaper like come on, oh yeah,
- 49:30Speaker 4: and he signed my ball during a game.
- 49:32Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 49:33Speaker 2: You see if you can find where John Lepley is now?
- 49:35Speaker 3: So the only reason did you? Were you a fan
- 49:37Speaker 3: of his? Or just the only reason he knows? Because
- 49:39Speaker 3: he only got to sign the ball?
- 49:40Speaker 4: Come up with signed the ball, and I kept that
- 49:42Speaker 4: ball on valued it, treasured it. And that was the
- 49:46Speaker 4: Cardinals farm That's why I remember his name. That was
- 49:48Speaker 4: the Cardinals Farm Club. Not sure if he ever got
- 49:49Speaker 4: a you know, cup coffee and the.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Majors or not. The Travelers where did they play out
- 49:53Speaker 2: a little rock?
- 49:54Speaker 4: And they were the double A team for the Saint
- 49:55Speaker 4: Louis Cardinals and they no longer are I think now
- 49:58Speaker 4: they're with the Angels. But John freaking Lepley shout out,
- 50:02Speaker 4: you're probably not listening. I don't know where you went,
- 50:06Speaker 4: how you got there? You see him anywhere? M m,
- 50:11Speaker 4: it doesn't sound like huh.
- 50:14Speaker 5: I see a Chief Impact Officer CORDA Institute for Teaching
- 50:20Speaker 5: in Arkansas.
- 50:21Speaker 2: So this is him right here on a card because
- 50:23Speaker 2: I had this card. Yeah, that's that's that's the dude him.
- 50:28Speaker 5: You see what I'm seeing?

- 51:00Speaker 4: He's at the university president of University in Nebraska, Lincoln.

- 54:49Speaker 2: ever come back to school?
- 54:50Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 54:50Speaker 11: So he he did a lot of stuff for our
- 54:52Speaker 11: baseball program and paid for jerseys and all that stuff,
- 54:55Speaker 11: and he would come back and do BP and stuff
- 54:58Speaker 11: with us.
- 54:58Speaker 2: And it was the coolest thing ever because we would
- 55:01Speaker 2: pitch to.
- 55:01Speaker 11: Him and we would just watch him hit home runs
- 55:03Speaker 11: at on our field and he hit a car that
- 55:07Speaker 11: was driving by one time and it was one of
- 55:09Speaker 11: the guy's brothers on the team, and he made him
- 55:12Speaker 11: sign the dent on his car. That's funny, I guess incredible.
- 55:16Speaker 11: So it's got to be Cliff Lee.
- 55:17Speaker 2: That's a good one, really good. Kevin.

- 55:47Speaker 4: game cartridge. I bet you there are, yeah, because Christian
- 55:50Speaker 4: kakoy and Bo Jackson were dominant.
- 55:53Speaker 3: If you had the Raiders with Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen,
- 55:55Speaker 3: that was pretty dominant. And then the second Techmobile you
- 55:58Speaker 3: had the forty nine ers, you could I mean and
- 56:00Speaker 3: Joe want Tang could throw a hundred yards.
- 56:01Speaker 2: But I'm telling you, but Christian Kakoy was like Bo
- 56:03Speaker 2: Jackson in that game.

- 56:20Speaker 5: He was it was like early nineties.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Was so young.
- 56:24Speaker 4: I see a tech Mobile photo, but I don't see
- 56:27Speaker 4: any a Koy signed cartridges. That would be a cool

- 56:32Speaker 4: let me know.
- 56:32Speaker 3: I've never seen anyone sign one of those. Was pretty cool,
- 56:35Speaker 3: Like I sign it a Nintendo cartridge. That's a good idea.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I've never seen it happen. Maybe they don't. Have
- 56:41Speaker 2: you ever seen it?
- 56:41Speaker 11: I've seen Mike Tyson with punch Out.
- 56:44Speaker 4: Oh that's cool, yeah, because that was his Like I
- 56:45Speaker 4: would get Bo Jackson like you said, or Christian nakoy a.

- 57:09Speaker 5: Yeah it was, and we didn't even never really know
- 57:11Speaker 5: who it was.
- 57:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:12Speaker 3: I tell my kids too, like they're so spoiled, you know, like,
- 57:15Speaker 3: no one we.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Didn't get that.
- 57:16Speaker 3: I'm like you, dude, Arkansas travelers, like I waited for
- 57:20Speaker 3: someone to just come by on the tour, to stop
- 57:21Speaker 3: by the real Grand Valley, to get a glimpse of
- 57:24Speaker 3: anyone professional.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and ours was an hour away in a minor
- 57:26Speaker 2: league team.
- 57:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 57:27Speaker 4: There were three Dallas Cowboys that were living in an
- 57:29Speaker 4: apartment in the off season near where I was, where
- 57:32Speaker 4: I was living, and I remember they would come in.
- 57:34Speaker 3: The Mountain Mountain Pink off season and.
- 57:37Speaker 4: There were three of them, and I was like, oh,
- 57:39Speaker 4: that's crazy about three dollars cowboys. They were lined to
- 57:41Speaker 4: bank chicks. They never were to play for the Cowboys. Wow,
- 57:45Speaker 4: I was gonna say, likely check them.
- 57:47Speaker 2: There was on social media three like yeah we played
- 57:50Speaker 2: for the Cowboys. I remember they were just bank chicks.
- 57:52Speaker 5: Living in Arkansas.
- 57:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I like it here off season.
- 57:56Speaker 1: It's called retro Bowl. Retro ball.
- 57:58Speaker 2: That's good.
- 57:59Speaker 4: Yeah, So green Bay. If you want to get an
- 58:02Speaker 4: AIRBNBA do you guess see this? No, So, NFL games
- 58:07Speaker 4: in a big city, not.
- 58:08Speaker 2: The big deal. Plenty of hotel rooms NFL games in
- 58:12Speaker 2: Green Bay.
- 58:12Speaker 4: A lot of people stay in Milwaukee, they drive to
- 58:15Speaker 4: green Bay because Green Bay is very small. If you
- 58:18Speaker 4: want to get an Airbnb in Green Bay, it's going
- 58:21Speaker 4: to be around.
- 58:24Speaker 2: At least one thousand bucks a night.
- 58:27Speaker 4: What dang for NFL season with like two and three
- 58:30Speaker 4: night minimums. According to reports, one single spare room within
- 58:33Speaker 4: walking distance of Lambeoufield is going for nine to ninety
- 58:35Speaker 4: nine a night, very small. Other individual properties are said
- 58:38Speaker 4: to be commanding a nightly rental price between eighteen hundred
- 58:41Speaker 4: and twenty grand a night, depending on how big from
- 58:44Speaker 4: the Wasaw Daily Herald.
- 58:45Speaker 5: So just a room alone, you're sharing with somebody for
- 58:48Speaker 5: a thousand bucks a night.
- 58:50Speaker 2: In that other one?
- 58:51Speaker 4: Yeah, first there may be two bedrooms in that one,
- 58:53Speaker 4: but it's it's definitely small. But that would suck to
- 58:56Speaker 4: pay a thousand bucks. You know, just drive the hour,
- 58:58Speaker 4: yeah easily, I mean I get it. You want to
- 59:01Speaker 4: walk it'd be cool, dude.
- 59:02Speaker 3: It's like those who went out to the golf tournament,
- 59:04Speaker 3: you know, people were the parking was crazy, right, Like
- 59:07Speaker 3: the nearest parking was so far away and then you have.
- 59:09Speaker 1: To shuttle in.
- 59:09Speaker 3: But there was a house right by the golf course
- 59:11Speaker 3: that was that had a pretty decent yard selling a
- 59:13Speaker 3: spot for forty dollars and there must have been five
- 59:16Speaker 3: hundred cars in their yard, and like they banged.
- 59:19Speaker 5: And they did it for three days in a row. Yeah,
- 59:21Speaker 5: my buddy and I talked about that same thing.
- 59:23Speaker 2: It's like the house is in near Razorby Stadium.
- 59:25Speaker 4: They just sell all that parking in this twenty bus
- 59:27Speaker 4: forty thirty bucks and they can fit in twenty thirty cars.
- 59:29Speaker 2: Hey every weekend.
- 59:31Speaker 1: I think they do that at Green Bay. That's kind
- 59:32Speaker 1: of what I thought.
- 59:33Speaker 2: When you went to that event where people dressed up
- 59:34Speaker 2: like golfers, you.
- 59:38Speaker 3: Mean, like spectators. Yeah, yeah, that's kind.
- 59:41Speaker 2: Of what you do. Huh.
- 59:44Speaker 4: Again, I've only been in one golf event ever because
- 59:46Speaker 4: I played, I didn't say so. Yeah, I've only ever
- 59:50Speaker 4: been as a fan to one golf event ever, and
- 59:52Speaker 4: I think I just wore tennis shoes and shorts huh.
- 59:55Speaker 4: But I wonder because I see people wearing like spikes.
- 59:58Speaker 2: Oh, they're like golf shoes.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Oh I didn't see that. I did. I didn't look
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: at their feet, but.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: They were dressing like golf pants.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: Oh sure, Well you know the logo the title is
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: hats you know, like, yeah, all that.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: I saw a TikTok that was about that.
- 1:00:12Speaker 11: It was like that golf's like the only sport that's
- 1:00:14Speaker 11: like you go and you're like waiting to be called
- 1:00:17Speaker 11: in to play.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: You look like you're ready to go.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: Do you feel that you're too old take a glove
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: to a baseball game?
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: No?
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: Yeah, Oh oh I'm not.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: Really, Oh but you know what, I'm sorry. I thought
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: about me and my kids.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Like me going with my Oh if you just me
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: and you go, na, we.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Can't take your love, dude.
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: We catch with their hands.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: Although I have thought about, like what what do I do, Like,
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: how do I catch it? I've thought about taking my
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: hat off and catching it with my hat.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Or do I just tall?
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: You won't catch it with your hand, you think, so.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Rip it right out of my hand.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: No, but it'll like yeah, or it'll just hit the fabric.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: You got to be perfect. It's got to hit right
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: in the right part of the hat.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: So what do you would go hands.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: No, I get out of the way.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: I don't want to.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: I have no interest in catching a foul ball.
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: What do you mean if it came right at you,
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: you were just you would.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Be on TV looking like a little getting out of
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: the way.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: What's even worse is if you drop one.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: It's worse to get out of the way they drop.
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: I don't care about a ball. I'm not going to
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: break a finger. I give no craps about a ball.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: Maybe because I'm a bit jaded because we get to
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: do some cool stuff. Sure, but and it's just a
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: foul ball. I have no no need to grab a fob.
- 1:01:26Speaker 11: You're sitting right next.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: To an old lady. The ball I would try to say, Okay, yeah.
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: No, no, that's that's definitely get out of the way. Even
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: if a ball were coming at my wife, I would
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: try to or a kid. Yes, But I'm saying just
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: to catch a foul ball, I don't give two craps
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: about that.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: Hold about a home run ball, World Series Game seven.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: Well, that does walk off all that matters a little bit. Yeah,
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: how's your boot?
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: It's good, it's still here. I mean where we're at
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: the very end of this, dude, the very.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: Are you tired of it? Yeah? Is your body adjusted wrong?
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: It's off.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: It's off because I've I've been walking like a penguin
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: for you know, four or five weeks, and so, yeah,
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: my body's kind of like off track. My back, my
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: spine feels like it's crooked. My shoulders even hurt a
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: little bit, my neck hurts.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: And you're off over and over again every time you
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: step down.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: And I feel like as soon as I would have wore.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: Two boots, should have done that, that had been funny.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: H oh, you both you broke both of your legs,
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: and I.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Want to keep it even any drama with the boots.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: Huh huh.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: An you drive with it?
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, most cars, like my son's car, it's a
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: little smaller, so the pedal is closer to the brake pedal,
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: and it got stuck the other day. I was driving it,
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: and it's you got to understand, like you're not pushing
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: the pedal like you normally would, where you kind of
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: bend your foot and push down with your toes. You're moving,
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: You're moving your whole foot. It's like you're kicking it.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: You're kicking the pedal.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: I shouldn't drive it that.
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: Yeah, No, I'm good at it now.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: But what happened was I pushed it down to accelerate
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: and it got the top of it, got caught on
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: the brake pedal, and I put to.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Take it off and it was stuck. Dude.
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: I panicked the car was getting We were going to
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: head ahead into a traffic light, and that car was
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: getting closer and closer, and I just yanked my whole
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: foot out and finally got loose, and I'm breaked.
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: Well, I'm ready for you, and I have that thing
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: on so we can play golf or pick a ball
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: or anything me too.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: I asked the doctor if I can play golf, and
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: he said, just hang hang on, like just one more week.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: You can do it.
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: But again, you can't start playing golf immediately. You have
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: to walk for like a week.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: Yeah, but I can car. I can go on a
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: golf cart. As long as I can stand, I can
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: hit a golf ball.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Dude.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: I think when you were standing, maybe sometimes you can hit.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: That's true.
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: We're gonna take a break holder, who's the most famous
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: person that represents your favorite team?
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: So you can go call Cowboys. Yeah, the most famous person,
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: one celebrity is associated with your team.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: It has to be I think it'd have to be
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Troy Aikman.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: He's a player that doesn't count.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: Oh you mean, oh, you mean post Malone.
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: A pretty big Maybe gone Lebron though, well he's a
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: Cowboy fan, massive Cowboy fan he is.
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: Oh, I've never known that.
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: Now, I'm not fighting for that as universal in my mind, Like,
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: who's the most famous Cowboy fan?
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: Probably would have went.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Lebron, I've never I didn't know that he was a
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Cowboys fan.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: Post alone big. Yeah, Postmone's so like big about it.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: They do.
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: They even have like restaurants like with Postmon's face on
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: it with the Cowboys.
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: Anybody else Cowboys, anybody else you could think of, I
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: mean other than me, Yeah, you'd be third red Sox
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: Kevin's team probably like Ben Affleck oh.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Yeah, or Matt Damon too, Matt Damon yeah.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: Oh and the market Mark dudes, Yeah, market Mark and
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: the Donnies.
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: Yeah, either Damon or Wahlberg's Dave Portnoy.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: Oh, he's a Red Sox guy.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: He's a Boston guy. I just assume he's a Red
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: Sox guy.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: Yeah, Oh, Jimmy fallon.
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: Good one like Fever Pitch.
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: How lucky they shot that when the World Series actually
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: won the World Series. They're on the field and they
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: actually won the World Series. They got to shoot that
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: and be part of the movie.
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: Do you remember them showing them shoot scenes in commercial
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: during commercials?
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: H huh.
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: Yeah, like they would come back from commercial Foxwood or whatever.
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: They'd be like, there they are, they're shooting a scene
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: for their new movie and they literally only had five
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: minutes shoot a scene in them.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: The game's gonna start.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: Stop read who's your team?
- 1:05:18Speaker 11: I don't really have a team other than the Razorbacks,
- 1:05:20Speaker 11: but I honestly, you'd probably be the guy for the Razorbacks.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: I would, well, John Daily went to school as an
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: athlete there.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Yeah, so he's probably according to the rules that we
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: just made up, Justin Moore.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: Justin Moore would be big, big fan.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: I mean, I would say John Day, but again, he
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: was an athlete at the University of Arkansas.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: Still, he's such a Razorback, you know, like actors or oh.
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: Billy buf Thorn he's from Arkansas, but I don't know he's
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: raisor back guy. There's like three three of us that
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: are in the public daily Justin and myself, Joe Nichols
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: a little bit, that's right, And I don't know if
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: he's that. He's not anti public about it, but but
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: I see him a games I don't think he like,
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: where's it on a sleeve? Racy Lawrence is the big
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: Arkansas fan really, like I'm a die hard fan. I
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: know Justin Moore is a die hard fan, lives and
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: dies by and John Daly is if.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: They got a big meeting together of all like the
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: Arkansas people, like, all right, let's talk about what we're
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: gonna do next year.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Celebrities bringing who is just you?
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Four?
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: You think no one else?
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: We're being loose on the words celebrity, but I'll accept it.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Just like you know famous people.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: Is that it.
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: Do former coaches like Nolan Richardson count because he did
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: win a national championship.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Maybe not?
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: Maybe if you work there, it doesn't. I don't know
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: what the rules are since we make them up anyway. Yeah,
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: but we don't have celebrities really except for Justin.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: John was Bill Clinton? Like a razorback big time okay.
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones a good Jones played football there though,
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: one national championship all so he's celebrity, though not known
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: for Arkansas.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: So that's why it counts of the rules we're making
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: up as we go.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: Rest in peace.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: How about like the Lakers? Would you say, oh my.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: God, everybody in Hollywood Jack Nicholson? Yeah?
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Who else?
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: How about the Knicks?
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Spike Lee?
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: Spike Lee's yeah, all the all the all the who
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: was there the whole time? Ben Stillert Ben still was
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: every final game or every playoff game.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: I mean, I just think of all the New York
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: celebrities in the front row. Spike Lee though, yeah forever? Yeah,
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: Kan City Chiefs.
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: Isn't Bateman one?
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: I don't know. I would say Paul rudd Oh, yeah's
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: your Chiefs fan.
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: Paul Rudning, the guy from who played one of the
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: the gay couple on.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: The show with Al Bundy. Is the dad married with children?
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: No, that was married with children, yes, but he then
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: was married to Sophia Vergara.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: Oh, I know you're talking about modern family.
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: One of those guys that's the gay couple. But don't
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: think he's gay, redheaded guy Steven Stone or something.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: I know who that is? You would you know him?
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: He's the Chiefs guy, big Chiefs guy. His name is
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: something Stone. Oh yeah, that Stone.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: Chiefs actor.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: Oh what are we talking about there? Eric stone Street here?
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he's a bigger guy. Yeah. Yeah, other guy
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: he's not the red head.
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I still that's what you're talking about. I thought
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: maybe his hair was read. I don't see.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: Yeah, said that the redhead.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: The other one.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: No, guys, the number one is Taylor Swift.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: That doesn't count.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: How does that not count?
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: Because she's new She's not a dire Chiefs fan. She
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: just likes Travis Kelsey.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: But where's all the.
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: Chiefs fan? Paul's number one? In my mind?
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: Paul New York Jets, Oh gosh, who was the I
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: have to Rich Eyen one and Adam Sandler, a Jets fan,
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: was a big Jets guy. And uh, Doug Heffernan, but
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: also the real version Kevin James King Queens. Yeah he's
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: a big Jets guy too. The Patriots.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: Kevin bon Jovi. Oh bon Jovi is a good one,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: is he?
- 1:09:09Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: Always there?
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: Mark Wahlberg, Mark Marks again, all those same Boston Guys
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: team actors.
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: Yeh, Miami Dolphins Darius.
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: Oh yeah, he's a Doph big Dolphins fan. Darius is
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: a good one.
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: I don't even know, I know anybody.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: But it's like the Packers, right, who's a big Packers fan?
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: Huge brand?
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: And I know Lil Wayne's a big Packer fan, But
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: I don't know that most people associate that with those two.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: I don't think that even counts.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know, massive brand.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: Can't think of one super fan that's famous. Yeah, Indiana Fever.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: Number one.
- 1:09:52Speaker 11: Know.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: Hey, Mike, did you watch the Dallas Cowboy cheerleader.
- 1:09:55Speaker 9: Show America Sweethearts on Netflix?
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: How is that?
- 1:09:58Speaker 9: It's actually pretty good?
- 1:09:59Speaker 10: I used the WIST and CMT two because, like my
- 1:10:01Speaker 10: wife and I would watch it. That one's a little
- 1:10:03Speaker 10: bit more like reality show, like all those tropes.
- 1:10:05Speaker 9: This was like a documentary?
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: Is it like an athlete documentary? For example, Cheer was
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: an athlete documentary.
- 1:10:13Speaker 9: I would compare it to Cheer.
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: Also, I should watch Yeah, I think you should watch it.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: What'd you learn? Well?
- 1:10:19Speaker 10: One of the big things they actually talked about that
- 1:10:20Speaker 10: I didn't think they would get into is like how
- 1:10:22Speaker 10: much they get paid which is not very much. They
- 1:10:24Speaker 10: compared it to the salary of a substitute teacher.
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: I figured, yeah, I figured they didn't get paid much either.
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: I figured it's just like a glory job, like I'm
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 1:10:35Speaker 9: They don't get anything though, like a calendar. They have
- 1:10:37Speaker 9: to pay for it.
- 1:10:38Speaker 10: Really, they don't get to get the uniform. They have
- 1:10:40Speaker 10: to give that back. Like hair and makeup, they have
- 1:10:42Speaker 10: to pay for it themselves.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: Whoa dang on, Jerry.
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: I mean, that's a big email to the Cowboys.
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: I know, but the people are willing to do that
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: to be a cheerleader though.
- 1:10:53Speaker 9: That's kind of how they get away with it.
- 1:10:54Speaker 10: Like Charlote Jones is on there talking about it, like
- 1:10:56Speaker 10: it's such a privilege to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: That Charlotte, oh Jerry's daughter.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, Arlotte, huh Okay.
- 1:11:03Speaker 10: What else that they get injured like pretty badly, like afterwards,
- 1:11:08Speaker 10: like they do that split thing wherever they fall down
- 1:11:10Speaker 10: to the ground, like total splits. Like a lot of
- 1:11:13Speaker 10: them have hip injuries after they're not cheerleaders anymore.
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, it's an athletic I mean they're those cheerleaders.
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: Man like cheer I'm saying cheer. They would get hardcore
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: injured because they're doing flips and crap. And I would
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: imagine most of them come from that background, right, some
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: sort of even dance when I was dancing. Yeah, these
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: girls are dan injured hard ankles, knees.
- 1:11:31Speaker 10: But it's crazy though, they don't get any of the
- 1:11:32Speaker 10: other like amenities, Like they don't have trainers, they don't
- 1:11:35Speaker 10: have people like doctors that they can go see.
- 1:11:36Speaker 9: They don't even get free gym memberships.
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: The doctor and the cowboy hat doesn't go over there
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: and help them out.
- 1:11:40Speaker 10: Dude, that's crazy. They get nothing nothing, So I get why.
- 1:11:44Speaker 10: I mean, if they didn't get paid a lot them,
- 1:11:45Speaker 10: I at least have like some amenities or something they
- 1:11:48Speaker 10: can go see.
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: Especially such a that's such a brand, Yeah, brand within
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: a massive brand.
- 1:11:53Speaker 10: Because yeah, it's not like they're not profitable too. They
- 1:11:56Speaker 10: talk about how the cheerleader's bringing millions of dollars.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: What's up with the no touching role?
- 1:12:01Speaker 10: Yeah, if you go get a picture with the cheerleaders,
- 1:12:03Speaker 10: they make you hold a football. So there's this one
- 1:12:05Speaker 10: point where it gets kind of creepy. They like show
- 1:12:07Speaker 10: dudes like, hey, gotta put my arm around you, and
- 1:12:10Speaker 10: they have like a security guy with him, like nope,
- 1:12:12Speaker 10: touch the football, So the guy in the picture has
- 1:12:14Speaker 10: to hold the football. They can't put their arms around
- 1:12:15Speaker 10: the cheerleaders. There's one episode where.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Are you being creepy right now?
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: I mean the creepers like that they run.
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: No, they didn't run it for everyone should touch them.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: It had to have started somewhere.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: You should touch them.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: No, you can't put your arm around people for a picture. Yes,
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: until creepster starts like, yeah, they ruined.
- 1:12:34Speaker 10: They do a whole episode of this cheerleader who gets
- 1:12:37Speaker 10: touched by a photographer and they address all the issues
- 1:12:40Speaker 10: they go along with that.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: Kay did you watch it?
- 1:12:41Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: I did. What did you learn from it?
- 1:12:44Speaker 8: The biggest thing was the pay. I kind of knew
- 1:12:46Speaker 8: about the pay already though, because I watched the reality
- 1:12:48Speaker 8: show growing up, and you know, I was invested, so
- 1:12:51Speaker 8: I looked up all the stuff. But uh yeah, the
- 1:12:54Speaker 8: just like the The biggest thing that got me was
- 1:12:56Speaker 8: they can't go up any size in their uniform, not
- 1:12:58Speaker 8: even a little bit from the moment they get fitted
- 1:13:00Speaker 8: from it, they.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: Can't They can't let it out at all.
- 1:13:03Speaker 8: No, no, they can't, and if they do, they get,
- 1:13:05Speaker 8: you know, in trouble or whatever happened.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: But yeah, they what year is this happening exactly?
- 1:13:11Speaker 10: That's what it feels like. It feels like they're back
- 1:13:12Speaker 10: in the nineties. Some of the things they talk about.
- 1:13:14Speaker 10: They'll like be criticizing some of the girls like, oh,
- 1:13:16Speaker 10: she's a little heavy in the face.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: Sixties wow, heavy in the face, or.
- 1:13:20Speaker 8: They'll just splat out side she's a great dancer, but
- 1:13:22Speaker 8: she's not very attractive and mean.
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: She has some food and her jaws nuts in there.
- 1:13:28Speaker 10: And then they have the creepy tour guy too, who
- 1:13:30Speaker 10: was saying, you know, all the cheerleaders have to sign
- 1:13:31Speaker 10: this thing where they can't hook up with players.
- 1:13:33Speaker 9: They don't have that for the tour guides.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: Pretty creepy. He said that that poor guy get put
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: on the on the show.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: He started the no touch.
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: Rule, the reason that that guy should not be saying that.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: But you like, you think I would like it.
- 1:13:48Speaker 9: I think it would like it.
- 1:13:49Speaker 10: Give it a couple of episodes if you don't like
- 1:13:50Speaker 10: the style of it, because it is kind of like
- 1:13:55Speaker 10: a real because just because it's cheerleader stuff.
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: I would like that show really when it was on
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: to reality trashy.
- 1:14:03Speaker 9: It's less than that.
- 1:14:04Speaker 10: But and the thing is they don't really like fight
- 1:14:06Speaker 10: with each other because they're so determined to try to
- 1:14:08Speaker 10: become cheerleaders that they're also supportive. Like nobody's like, ah,
- 1:14:12Speaker 10: this stupid girl, like I don't want her to make it.
- 1:14:14Speaker 10: They're so supportive because it's so hard to make it.
- 1:14:15Speaker 10: They make it like thirty six slots.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: I don't know that.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: I'm I'm sold into watching it. Yeah, I did love Cheer,
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: though all it's not the same. I thought Cheer was awesome.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: Cheer was really good.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: What cheer on that flax?
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: No, Coach Monica?
- 1:14:27Speaker 9: Is the second season one that good?
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: I don't know if I watched second season?
- 1:14:31Speaker 9: Maybe I did, but people forgot about it.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: Is that before or after that did got in trouble?
- 1:14:37Speaker 9: They talk about it in that second season?
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: They do.
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: I don't think I'll watched it. And I love season one. Yeah,
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: season one was awesome. Yeah, he was awesome. Okay, I
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: think we're done or don't want to go here.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: Gonna go home. I'm gonna go home, play some pick
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: a ball.
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: We cut the limb down, the big limb.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Now, you and I, but we try. We tried our best.
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: Well, Eddie and I cleaned the tree with this big
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: tall thing to play pickleball, and then I had to
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: hire a tree service to come and cut a massive limb.
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: Did they take the whole branch off? They did? Okay? Good?
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: The problem is it's not even that less of shade.
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: We still have the big tree over the top that
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: shades the pickleball court. But like berries fall on it,
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: birds poop on it.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Kind of berry strawberries.
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: You don't want to eat these, ok So it's kind
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: of a mix. Do you want to fry under the
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: sun or do you want to have shade and have
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: to deal with the berries and.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: The birds fry?
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: That's the elements fry, right.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: I want the shade, really, I think so, because I
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: can just take a broom and go.
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: Put a little tarp over it. It's only want half
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: the court that gets it. Put a little tarp over.
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: It, or even like a leaf blower. Probably that's a
- 1:15:42Speaker 5: good point.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: All of the poop.
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: I don't think you can leaf blow. Kind of wet
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: you gotta scrape that on. Yeah, I got get that broom. So, yeah,
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: that's it.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: Thank you for listening. I'm maybe gonna go to you. Guys.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: I feel like you had nothing to say.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: We've got nothing. I've got nothing, ude, you got anything.
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: Coming, mostly because we recorded outro at the same time
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: I recorded the other outro.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: For the I told you what I had.
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and we are exhausted.
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: Material read you got anything?
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: He has something great for this one. We had nothing
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: like ten minutes ago. I'm glad you asked. This one's
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: been burning on me for a while.
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: Man.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: I learned how to cook pasta last night. That's pretty fun.
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: You mean from scratch?
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:16:21Speaker 11: Yeah, Dawson showed me how to make it. I told
- 1:16:23Speaker 11: Maddie I was gonna learn to cook for so we're married.
- 1:16:26Speaker 11: I can cook, so I'm going to cook for this weekend.
- 1:16:28Speaker 11: So I had Dawson, you know, teach me his chef ways.
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: And hold on.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: You made your own pasta. Oh no, not the posta noodles.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: But the sauce was homemade.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: Oh, any of it.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: Heck, even if the sauce is at homemade, you just
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: learn how to boil the crap and get it going.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: You're good.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: That's a big deal too.
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Women love that.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: That like once ever two weeks you freaking he rode
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: the house trying man.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: You do that both.
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: I'm not the hero of the house, I thought, Yeah, no,
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: I don't claim to be here.
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: All right, that's it, Thank you guys, have a great
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: rest of the week, and we will be back with
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: another episode on Monday.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: We're not doing one end of the week for the
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: July week. Add that is all Incubied Bery
