- 0:43audience. Oh, to the actually took me off.
- 0:49We have a live studio audience with us.
- 0:50Yeah, first time ever. All the wags.
- 0:53Yeah. All the wags, Yeah, we're
- 0:56recording in front of our groupies today.
- 0:59So if we laugh unprompted, that's why yeah, we don't laugh.
- 1:02That's also. Bigger management groupie.
- 1:04Just message us and we'll see what we can do.
- 1:07Applications. OK, today we're gonna be doing
- 1:10our mailbag episode as of the week of March 3rd.
- 1:15We're recording it as of. March 1st week of March.
- 1:16The first week of March, there you go.
- 1:18There you go 2 weeks away from most fantasy hockey playoffs.
- 1:22So it's it's a great time to ask questions.
- 1:25And you know, as always, you can find the link to our social
- 1:29media in the link tree in the podcast description.
- 1:32Whether or not you like what you hear, rate US five stars and
- 1:35give us a follow. Please rate US five stars.
- 1:37All right, Josh, take it away. Alright, so first question.
- 1:44Our first question comes from Investigator prize 949.
- 1:48They ask Stuart Skinner or Jordan Jordan Bennington rest
- 1:51the season. Their Cats are game started,
- 1:53wins, safe percentage, goals against average and shutouts.
- 1:57OK. So start, yeah.
- 1:58Yeah, whoa, yeah. That's actually kind of a kind
- 2:01of an interesting one. Yeah.
- 2:03If game started, if they actually get benefit for that, I
- 2:07would take Bennington for sure. I mean, I'm, I don't know.
- 2:10Cause this isn't just hitting your stats, you're actually.
- 2:12Like getting rewarded for starting start.
- 2:15So I think it's just to mitigate kind of like maybe negative
- 2:17goalie games having a way that you still get something for it.
- 2:21I'm assuming that this is a category league and not a points
- 2:24rewarded for each of these. I know which side you guys are
- 2:27on, but I still think I don't know that.
- 2:28Maybe presumptuous at this point if you had to choose and you're
- 2:32playing it safe. I'm going Bennington so crazy
- 2:36just because I know, just because the Oilers as of
- 2:39recording right now, they've been going through it and you
- 2:42know, the John Gibson rumors are getting really, really hot.
- 2:45So if that happens. Just like every year.
- 2:47Yeah, I know. Just like that.
- 2:49I mean depending when you're. Listening to the name the trade
- 2:50deadline like John Gibson trade. This is my answer.
- 2:54If John Gibson doesn't go to the Oilers or they don't trade for
- 2:57gold, I'm going towards Skinner. OK, Are they?
- 2:58I'd still go Bennington, honestly.
- 3:00And that's a fair. Thing No, I think the weather
- 3:02turned it around. I think they figure it out.
- 3:04And I just think, I mean, the Blues are on a roll right now
- 3:08like they're making a playoff. Push, voice, crack.
- 3:12But I just think Edmonton's a like a juggernaut team, right?
- 3:16I feel you gotta go with Stuart Skinner.
- 3:18But to that point, for games started especially, they're
- 3:21gonna give Bennington a higher percentage of stars moving
- 3:23forward as opposed to Skinner, you know, And it's not like
- 3:25Skinner is so much more reliable.
- 3:27But I think whether this should get more wins and you know, you
- 3:30can tend to have better save percentage goals against average
- 3:32with a better team, but it's honestly close at this point.
- 3:37I think I would go with Binnington, but I think it's
- 3:39super close. Gibson doesn't go to.
- 3:42Even I'm not even considering the Gibson toilers like the way
- 3:44I like think about it is I'm looking at it Cappi cat from
- 3:47like their categories. I'm looking at for the game
- 3:49started and shutouts. I'm viewing it as pretty equal
- 3:52for both. They're both the starter on
- 3:53their team. Regardless of how bad skinners
- 3:55doing. They're not gonna give Picard
- 3:56like that many more stars because pickers also been awful.
- 3:58So the only question is the only question is like if they do a
- 4:02trade, but like I'm viewing it as kind of the same amount of
- 4:05games played and shut out is kind of like whatever, because
- 4:07they're too random to guess. Then I think Skinner gets more
- 4:11wins, but I think safe percentage goals against average
- 4:13should be better for Bennington. So that's more cats for
- 4:15Bennington. Bennington definitely safer
- 4:17choice. Yeah, just given the way.
- 4:19That the way they've been playing is just there's not much
- 4:22time left in the fantasy hockey season for them to turn things
- 4:25around. So you kind of want to go with
- 4:26the guy who's speaking right into the playoffs.
- 4:28Did you hear Elliot Freeman on recent podcast episode?
- 4:31He said that he's hearing, although I don't know how
- 4:35legitimate or if the players would even want that, but how
- 4:37the order should bench make David and Drysol for wrestling
- 4:40up to the playoffs. That would suck.
- 4:43That that would suck for fantasy.
- 4:44That would be insane. Yeah, it was mostly for McDavid
- 4:47because you played the Four Nations, Yeah, face off and he
- 4:49didn't get any. Ranch dry saddle when he's like
- 4:51going for like the yeah the rocket like he's.
- 4:55Like he's at the players obviously would not want.
- 4:56To do it like the heart and the rocket, like he's also the only
- 4:59good player. On the other right now, even
- 5:00McDavid hasn't been doing well. It's just been a dry saddle and
- 5:02friends, you know. And friends and friends.
- 5:05McDavid. Yeah.
- 5:06Exactly. Evan Bouchard peeking from
- 5:09behind the bushes. That actually make the playoffs
- 5:11if they do that. They're required.
- 5:13I think they still make the playoffs.
- 5:15They have enough of a lead but like.
- 5:16Literally if they bench those two guys.
- 5:18Though they were one game. Winning off, they'll be off, but
- 5:21I think they just, I think there's no way to lose every
- 5:24game of the season. I think what I take for them to
- 5:26miss the playoffs. I don't think mentioning those
- 5:28guys anyways. But anyway, so it seems like.
- 5:30Catastrophe, though. To sum up, we've got two binding
- 5:33tons and one Skinner. So if you're going based on the
- 5:36majority, then go with Bennington.
- 5:39Yeah, sounds good. All right, next question.
- 5:41We've got big Puller. Would you recommend two or three
- 5:44goalies for playoffs? Their Cats are wins, goals
- 5:47against, average save percentage and shutouts.
- 5:49They currently have Markstrom, Hill and LinkedIn.
- 5:53So this really comes with a roster construction kind of
- 5:56situation. I'm assuming that you need to
- 5:59hit 3 goalie goalie starts per per week.
- 6:03And looking at these goals, none of these goals are droppable.
- 6:05Droppable right now, I think I mean they're all the starter on
- 6:08their own team, all on supposedly good teams, right?
- 6:11Like these are not guys you can drop, especially with the
- 6:14categories like goals against, average save percentage.
- 6:16Like these are categories like good goalies get rewarded for.
- 6:19So if I'm you big polar, I'm I'm rocking these three goalies
- 6:27leading into leading into the playoffs, especially because you
- 6:30should be advantage for all of these categories.
- 6:32So the only volume thing here is the wins right?
- 6:35Goes against average save. Percentage and he has three good
- 6:37goalies on teams that should be winning in Vancouver is kind of
- 6:40like right now, but Vegas and New Jersey are top teams in the.
- 6:43League. So if this was saves too, if
- 6:45there was also a category, I would say for sure, but without
- 6:48save. Well, you're dropping.
- 6:52Don't read my answer. Honestly I would I would
- 6:55consider getting rid of Lankinen just cause I think Vancouver's
- 6:58not gonna be good. For I mean, he's the one that I
- 7:00would have to cut, but he's still a valuable Golian.
- 7:02He's shown that he can be. But he'll screw up the
- 7:04percentage. I also just think that if you if
- 7:06you're rocking three goals. I think this question is very
- 7:08subjective because it depends on your league mates.
- 7:10If like the whole league rocking 2 goalies then more like to go
- 7:14with two goalies. If you have a lot of teams that
- 7:15rocking 3 goalies, then it puts you at an advantage for having
- 7:18three better goalies that. Kind of feel the opposite.
- 7:20I feel like if the whole league is rocking do you do 3 to
- 7:23guarantee wins? If the whole league walking
- 7:25three you do 2 punt wins and then no extra skater on.
- 7:28Them. No, because I would because I
- 7:30don't think that you can rely on goals against evidence save
- 7:33percentage with only two goalies anyways.
- 7:35Even with three goals, I just feel like it's not guaranteed.
- 7:38So if everybody's got 3 goalies, you're basically punting more or
- 7:41less at least three goalie categories.
- 7:42But an extra goalie doesn't improve your rate stats.
- 7:44No, but it helps you with your wins and also it also.
- 7:48Goes against average or safer. It's also if you have good
- 7:50quality goalies over the average you tend to have hairstyles and
- 7:54somebody has three goals with a weaker.
- 7:55Goalie. But if you've got 3 goalies that
- 7:57are quality but you drop the lowest quality one, yeah, then
- 8:00you mean that should get better. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:02That's going to be subjective. Just way is I would definitely
- 8:05go with two goalies with these cats.
- 8:06Kind of like Gigi said, there's only one category that cares
- 8:09about volume, which is wins and even wins.
- 8:12Like even if you have more goals, you're not guaranteed to
- 8:14win the wins. Cat and that extra player spot
- 8:17will probably affect about 10 categories based on like their
- 8:19league settings. Well, depends how Charlie is as.
- 8:21Well, I was gonna say that's the next thing.
- 8:23The next thing is how shallow the league is because I wouldn't
- 8:25drop one of these goalies for like some like, you know,
- 8:28garbage, like fringe player, you know.
- 8:30But if like your league is like on the shallower side or like
- 8:32you have someone who could actually contribute on a week to
- 8:35week basis, then I would take the extra skater over the extra
- 8:37goalie. And yeah, of the three
- 8:39mentioned, Lanken would definitely be the drop.
- 8:41It's the opportunity cost here because shutouts are really not
- 8:45a factor as you can't predict that.
- 8:47So for all intents and purposes, the percentage based goals
- 8:51against average and save percentage which are performance
- 8:53quality as opposed to quantity or two of the three categories
- 8:56and. You're essentially holding a
- 8:58player for one category, which is wins.
- 9:00Yeah, pretty much. Whereas you're probably positive
- 9:04contribution to the other categories.
- 9:05As well, but only if it doesn't affect it if like Mark Sherman
- 9:08Hill are also putting up good. Categories.
- 9:10I trust those two to give good numbers.
- 9:12The only way like having Lankinen improves your goals
- 9:15against average and percentage is if he has a better of either
- 9:18of those then Marshman Hill combined over any given week and
- 9:22I would bet on Marchman Hill over Lincoln.
- 9:23Yeah, I would as well. I would rather pick up.
- 9:26I just didn't want to I I definitely agree with the stuff
- 9:29you said. I just don't want to lean
- 9:30towards saying absolutely 2 goalies instead of three.
- 9:35I think there's. A lot.
- 9:35There's definitely a lot of factors involved, like where the
- 9:39rest of the leagues, like what they're doing matters and how
- 9:41shallow it is matters. But in general, with these
- 9:43categories I would lean to. Was a good question.
- 9:45Big polar, Yeah, that was. Yeah.
- 9:48All right, next we've got big Whaley asked.
- 9:51In a league with wins, saves, save percentage and shutouts,
- 9:54who would you take rest of season, Cam Talbot or Spencer
- 9:57Knight? What's your in-depth take on
- 9:59Spencer Knight's situation in Chicago rest of season?
- 10:01Do you think big polar and big Whaley are related?
- 10:04Could be no, it's the same person name, not last name.
- 10:08You know, maybe maybe it's like they're signing it in a formal
- 10:11way, like pull over comma big big.
- 10:16Um, hmm, that's a good one. It definitely is a good, good,
- 10:20good question. Josh, wanna give your.
- 10:22Answer yeah, so I think I'd go with Knight over Talbot.
- 10:25I expect both them to be the starters on their teams rest of
- 10:27season. Although if one of them was to
- 10:29lose the starting spot, I think it would be more likely that
- 10:31it's Talbot over night because I think Lions more of a threat as
- 10:35opposed to Mrazek on Chicago. Also Detroit is competing for a
- 10:39playoff position so they're going to whichever goalie plays
- 10:41better or as Chicago isn't so they're going to try and develop
- 10:44their new shiny toy that they just traded Seth Jones for.
- 10:47So looking at it more on a cat by cat basis, again shut out is
- 10:51too random for me to count on. I expect Detroit to get more
- 10:54wins than Chicago but I think tonight will get more saves and
- 10:57have a much better save percentage.
- 10:58Detroit and Talbot specifically have been super streaky so you
- 11:01can have great or terrible weeks whereas Night is generally solid
- 11:03and had a crazy first game with Chicago. 41 saves on 42 shots.
- 11:07And one other thing to note is Detroit has the most difficult
- 11:09remaining strength of schedule in the league and Chicago has
- 11:12the 8th easiest. So for all those reasons, I'm
- 11:14going with Night over Talbot. I sure a lot of the same
- 11:17sentiment as you I would definitely go night over top of,
- 11:19but I do think Talbot has some value, especially in those deep
- 11:21releases as well. But the analysis you have on the
- 11:25categories I think is exactly what I would expect if I had to
- 11:29give more insight into night. I think they traded Seth Jones
- 11:33for him. I think he's going to get almost
- 11:36every start that's not a back-to-back basically.
- 11:38I think he's a good goalie. I think he's better than Talbot
- 11:41at this point in their careers. I think, you know, he's been
- 11:43through a lot and he has stuff to prove and you know, I think
- 11:47Chicago wants to win. Like they're not thinking right.
- 11:49They're thinking by trading players away, like, that's fine,
- 11:52but they're not actively trying to lose or, like, not feeling
- 11:55their best, rather that they can.
- 11:56Yeah. So I think I think honestly,
- 11:57they could steal some wins. And I think I'm expecting some
- 12:00good quality from night. I think he's on the higher end
- 12:03like of goalies that are on bad teams that are not in the
- 12:06playoffs, but they're gonna get a lot of like the big workload.
- 12:09Like I see him similar to kind of like Elvis at this point.
- 12:13OK. Yeah, although that makes
- 12:14Columbus is in the. Place Columbus is in the
- 12:15playoffs, which is not expected with how the season went, but
- 12:20that's kind of like the. Like the Norris winner and like
- 12:22the best breakout player in the league on your team, you.
- 12:24Know. Honestly, I'm gonna go Talbot
- 12:27only because he's been the starter this year and I haven't.
- 12:30Seen, but he's also kind of squishy.
- 12:32He's not unsquare, she's pretty old.
- 12:35But he's squishy. We've seen him miss time
- 12:36multiple times. This.
- 12:37Year, yeah, but they're like. Really, Line has been a guy that
- 12:41can take a team to the playoffs. Alex Leon.
- 12:44It's just that with wins, I think easily Talbot.
- 12:48Yeah. And with, say, a percentage, I
- 12:51would bet on Talbot. That's it.
- 12:53Just because I know you're such a great first game.
- 12:57This game log for the past week but I don't think it's a game
- 12:59above .800 but. Yeah, like I think everything
- 13:02back. No, no, it's just cause like
- 13:04it's obviously so encouraging after we see this, this night
- 13:07game, you know what I mean? But it was also like.
- 13:10The difference between him and talk, it's like night and day.
- 13:15Good one. Jakey looks around to see if
- 13:19anybody else got the joke. Everyone, I was much fun with
- 13:23that. That was great.
- 13:25No, I know it doesn't seem like it based on the first game and
- 13:28how Talbots been met. I just really believe in Detroit
- 13:31making a strong push and I don't even know I mean.
- 13:33As a reporting it's Talbot overlying though.
- 13:36Yes, OK. It's just not that.
- 13:38I think he's better, but they keep defaulting.
- 13:39To him, I mean, he's lost four out of his last five.
- 13:43Games, I know, but it's not even starting tonight.
- 13:45Yeah, because just had like a 42.
- 13:48Yeah, but like, I don't think they're gonna overdo it with
- 13:51him. I really think that Chicago
- 13:53sucks. They're not going to win a lot.
- 13:54Yeah, it was an amazing thing to watch.
- 13:56And I think next year I think it's gonna be a great person to
- 13:59draft and to have further year. But this year, because I think
- 14:03they keep defaulting to Talbot for whatever reason, I don't see
- 14:05that stopping. Like they're not going to trade
- 14:07for goalie. I doubt that.
- 14:09No, no. I just think they're gonna try
- 14:10to beef up their team and I think that they could be a
- 14:12fringe playoff team and those are the best goalies you wanna
- 14:14have. So for wins and percentages and
- 14:18saves. Saves as if he actually.
- 14:21But yeah, it's not fun to own night.
- 14:23Yeah. But for reliability purposes, I
- 14:25would go with Talbot, I think. All right, So again, if you're
- 14:28going by the majority, we've got two nights and 1 Talbot, so all
- 14:33night. Five nights.
- 14:34OK, you know you're on. But if your favorite on the pod
- 14:38is cheeky, then you can go with the Talbot, yeah?
- 14:40And if your favorite is somebody that has good takes?
- 14:45I'm going to. Leave on Our next question comes
- 14:48from Lethal Voltage as I'm currently in first place in my
- 14:52season points league by a huge margin.
- 14:54Flux. I feel I cannot stream players
- 14:56because all my guys are too good to drop.
- 14:58I feel like I should hold on any moves until things get dicey or
- 15:01free agent suddenly pops off, but I feel like a sitting duck
- 15:04doing nothing. How should I manage REST this
- 15:06season? Well, first of all, it sounds
- 15:07like you've been listening to Bangor Management podcast on
- 15:10here. I was just about to.
- 15:11Say, good job, lethal voltage. Keep up the great work.
- 15:15These are one of those things where not that I've often been
- 15:19in this position, but but so I've heard that like when you're
- 15:24well ahead, it's kind of boring to just hang out.
- 15:28And this was this was succeeding most of us last season in our
- 15:32league. Yeah, we were like.
- 15:33Well, I think the last, the last half of the season I like didn't
- 15:36have to make many moves just because of how the league, our
- 15:38legal structure last season, yeah.
- 15:40Yeah, it's been like me for the past like four years.
- 15:42Yeah, this is a. Psychological.
- 15:44Yeah, seriously though, seriously.
- 15:45But you still find like something.
- 15:48And everything and every week someone always complaining.
- 15:52Exactly. Makes sense.
- 15:55OK. Fine, she tunes it out.
- 16:00She's adopted to the frequency. Exactly.
- 16:03This is a psychological thing. When it's all said and done,
- 16:05you're gonna be way happier having won the league than
- 16:07making like a nice flashy pickup.
- 16:09So just think about where you're going to be once you dominate
- 16:12your opponents and claim victory, as opposed to just be
- 16:14like, ooh, Leo Carlson's doing well, You know what I mean?
- 16:17Like. I mean, that's my take is a
- 16:19little bit more detailed than that it's.
- 16:22Alright, now that we got the thing out of the way.
- 16:26Yeah. OK, so I feel like first of all,
- 16:32I would have loved to have known who the the worst players in our
- 16:35team are. Like if we could have had a
- 16:37couple of names because is it guys are like 60 plus percent or
- 16:41is it guys that are like 10 or 20% owned.
- 16:46But this is a great problem to have obviously.
- 16:48I think all you can do is do your due diligence and make sure
- 16:51that you know you're keeping track with how well your players
- 16:54are performing because it's right now there's only a few
- 16:58weeks left in the playoffs. So everything that happens from
- 17:01now until the end of the season is what's going to be most
- 17:03valuable. Make sure that you're keeping
- 17:05track of your players playoff schedules.
- 17:08Maybe you can make some waiver moves, the worst current team as
- 17:11A2 game schedule or something. Then maybe you can make a pickup
- 17:14for that. But that's what I would do.
- 17:17I think just doing your due diligence, keeping tabs on like,
- 17:19you know, the heartbeat of your team is enough to make you feel
- 17:24like you're not, you know, just like a sitting duck doing
- 17:25nothing basically, if that makes sense.
- 17:27Yeah, well, Kevin pretty much stole all my points.
- 17:32But you're correct, takes. Yeah.
- 17:34But it sounds like this guy is like also focused on what's
- 17:36going on in his league. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:38I mean, he's, he just wants to feel like he's, you know, making
- 17:40moves to feel like he's improving, but at some point.
- 17:43Not just that, I think it's more like, you know, he's happy to
- 17:46sit on his team if it's the right move, but he just wants to
- 17:48make sure that you went. The longer you sit on your team,
- 17:51the more you're like start second guessing yourself.
- 17:52Like I haven't made a move in a while.
- 17:54Like, oh, look, this guy has four points since last four
- 17:56games. Maybe he's better than my much
- 17:57better player who's got a bit of a cold streak.
- 17:59So I would say first of all, it's a great position to be in.
- 18:02Like, like Kevin said, um, and in terms of like keeping an eye
- 18:06on your team, just be more specific.
- 18:07What I like to do is constantly keep track of who my three most
- 18:09droppable players are at anytime.
- 18:11And by just keeping track of that, if someone's on that list
- 18:15for a while of the most droppable player, then maybe
- 18:18they are just a droppable player.
- 18:20So it's good to look at how all your players are doing.
- 18:21Sometimes big names can shadow that someone's actually been
- 18:24underperforming a lot and you can actually drop that guy kind
- 18:27of like Kevin said. Also, with only four weeks left
- 18:29in the season, it doesn't matter what happened so far this
- 18:32season. All that matters these last four
- 18:34weeks. So don't rush to make any moves
- 18:36and sounds like you have a great team and a commanding lead.
- 18:38But in the last two to three weeks of the season, if you have
- 18:40any players have a really bad schedule like haven't said, I
- 18:43wouldn't hesitate to drop for like a slightly worse player
- 18:45with a better schedule. At the end of the day, you know
- 18:47it's always best to look at averages, but once you get this
- 18:49close to the end of the season, you want to multiply the
- 18:51average. Multiply the averages by how
- 18:53many games played and see what total.
- 18:54Is better. I do like you don't look at your
- 18:56squad, look at your squad through the season average.
- 18:59If you look at your squads with the last 30 days, look your
- 19:01squads with the last 14 days and kind of compare like which
- 19:03players have been like we saw throughout the whole year who
- 19:05are maybe like slumping right now or the opposite.
- 19:07Yeah. And then you can just like, you
- 19:08know, have an idea of who your worst guys are and just keep
- 19:11tabs on waiver guys. You don't wanna you wanna drop a
- 19:13guy that's been sold all the years, maybe in a slump for like
- 19:15a Coal Perfetti who is still playing 12 minutes a night but
- 19:18looks into a couple of points or whatever.
- 19:19You know what I mean? Yeah, don't sacrifice
- 19:21reliability. Yeah, and the fact that you're
- 19:23in first by a lot means you have a strong team and you're
- 19:25probably better fantasy player than your league as well.
- 19:28So just trust that and don't be afraid to not make moves either.
- 19:33Yeah. And I will say that like,
- 19:34because you have such a commanding lead, you can afford
- 19:37to hold guys who are slumping if you think they're gonna turn it
- 19:39around in time for the playoffs. Exactly.
- 19:41So don't rush. It's you know, you're not
- 19:43desperate that you're the best spot to be in.
- 19:45You don't have to drop good players just cause they're not
- 19:47doing great this week. All right, let's move on to the
- 19:50next one. Colton?
- 19:51Jeffs asked. Any chance Ryan Leonard gets
- 19:53signed by Washington and plays before the playoffs?
- 19:55I'm not sure when his season ends.
- 19:58I mean, my take is even if he does get signed, I don't think
- 20:01he's gonna become fantasy relevant.
- 20:03If this is for keeper leagues or whatnot, obviously that's a way
- 20:05different story. Like I feel like he's probably
- 20:07already roasted in the keeper league potentially depending if
- 20:10he's available in your league or what not.
- 20:11But I don't see him being fantasy relevant if he if he
- 20:15does play for Washington things to be fourth line.
- 20:17And I think he's kind of banger type of guy.
- 20:19Yeah, right. So maybe he can have some be
- 20:21like a banger streamer, but in terms of reliability and it's
- 20:24like a really, really deeply, I don't see him being relevant.
- 20:27I mean, I looked into, well, I looked into it like when he
- 20:29could actually come and essentially the NCAA playoffs go
- 20:33from March 27th to April 12th and he's expected to join the
- 20:37Caps once his season ends. So once Boston College gets
- 20:39eliminated from the playoffs. So that could be anytime between
- 20:42those two weeks. But with this timeline, I don't
- 20:45think he'll make it to the NHL before the fantasy season ends,
- 20:47unless you have a week 25, in which case he might be in the
- 20:49NHL for that week. So and I'd say like the only
- 20:51chance of him because I also think he'll get buried in the
- 20:53lineup. Like, you're not gonna, you
- 20:54know, the only chance of this is a very specific scenario of him
- 20:58being fantasy relevant without one specific week is if it
- 21:00happens that they rest their stars that week.
- 21:02Yeah. And then he gets some minutes.
- 21:04Yeah. So that's the only.
- 21:05Situation then also you won't have any, you know, data to kind
- 21:07of rely upon to what you're gonna expect from him.
- 21:10So you're kind of dropping a guy that you know what to expect for
- 21:12a guy that might get straight zeros, Who knows?
- 21:14That's it. I wouldn't take a risk because
- 21:16Week 25, if you're goes into that, that's the finals.
- 21:18You're not gonna take A chance on Ryan Leonard and your final
- 21:20week. Exactly.
- 21:21I don't know why they would bring him up and bury him though
- 21:24like I. Don't know where they.
- 21:25Put their first league, not gonna mess with what's working.
- 21:28Also schedule or something. No, I think they want him for
- 21:31the playoff push. I mean, having like a player
- 21:33who's really good, like adding to the third.
- 21:34Would have to be less than 10 games though, right?
- 21:37Yeah, I don't think they wanna burn a year, but sometimes they
- 21:39don't mind. Especially AA players, they want
- 21:41to convince them to come and have just like even go to
- 21:43another team. Yeah, sometimes they don't mind
- 21:45burning a year. Also just in general they don't
- 21:47mind burning a year because then it gives them less time, it
- 21:49develops. You can sign them to a better
- 21:50contract after their ELC ends. Yeah.
- 21:54Alright, next we've got you all. Reliable Armin on Instagram
- 21:58asked. Talk about injured players
- 22:00please. Hughes, Yozi.
- 22:01Barzel. Geek.
- 22:02Brodine. Jill Larson, Egg.
- 22:05Yeah. So let's knock out the easy
- 22:07ones, I think. I mean, Hughes, Alfred, the
- 22:09season. Yeah, I mean, we're gonna talk a
- 22:10lot about this in our news episode, so we'll just, like you
- 22:12said, just go quick. So he's out for the season.
- 22:14Yoshi, I'd expect back next week.
- 22:16I think he's currently on IR, but I think he's dealing with
- 22:19concussion. The only worry with the OC is
- 22:21that they shut him down for the season because of how bad the
- 22:23team is. Yeah, which is hopefully that
- 22:25doesn't. Happen.
- 22:25I think it's a worry with them being.
- 22:26Bossed, definitely. It's definitely a big worry.
- 22:28So I don't think he needs to be out for this season, but they
- 22:30might decide to keep him out. And just because their season is
- 22:32done, Barcella expect to be out for the fantasy season.
- 22:35Ericsson Neck, they said he should be back for the regular
- 22:38season. So.
- 22:39I think he's gonna be back in the playoffs.
- 22:41I expect them for the quarter finals or semis.
- 22:43Yeah, that's my my estimation. And Brody.
- 22:45And I'm kind of just like, who cares?
- 22:47If you're in the league where Brody is relevant.
- 22:50There's none, there's not a single league routines he
- 22:52doesn't do back and he doesn't get points.
- 22:53He's good for some blocks. He's there's better guys at 0%.
- 22:58Loans in the past he's been like above 2 block guy.
- 23:01Not this year. But this year, yeah, he's been
- 23:03in and out of the line because he's been so hurt.
- 23:06Not even. Close.
- 23:07Really. Try to look on the bright side,
- 23:08yeah? Yeah, but yeah, I mean, I, I
- 23:12think Barzal and Hughes are the ones that are like gone.
- 23:14I can see Barzal coming back, especially because if the honest
- 23:17decided not to be sellers. Yeah.
- 23:19So we'll find out like very shortly.
- 23:21If Brock Nelson leaves, then their sellers.
- 23:22If he doesn't, then yeah, then maybe Barzel comes.
- 23:25Back it's like Groundhog Day, you know like rock Nelson like
- 23:27head pops up and we're. Like, exactly like Winter.
- 23:30Brock Nelson. Brock Nelson to the Avalanche.
- 23:32I don't know. Carolina.
- 23:34I don't know. To the Habs.
- 23:35Yeah, I would have. We needed to see.
- 23:37Yeah, we don't need to see this 40 years old.
- 23:40He's not 40. As it looks for.
- 23:41Like 3030. 532 or something. He's like 31 or something like
- 23:45that. Yeah, I think it's 34.
- 23:47I don't think he's that old. I think 34, 33 How close to 34?
- 23:53When's birthday? 15th.
- 23:55Kind of clothes. I can't do that.
- 23:57I can't do that math quick enough.
- 23:58Let's move on to the next one. Next question.
- 24:00All right, Will Nye the scoring guy.
- 24:02Well, that's good. That's a brilliant.
- 24:04OK this is just a paragraph of a question so I'm gonna just copy
- 24:08pasted it so I can read it to you guys.
- 24:09Commissioner question, should I allow this trade or is this a
- 24:13kickable offence? So I'm a commissioner of a 14
- 24:15team, 6 keeper league. Recently the last place team
- 24:18with a record of 3 and 16, far below the second place last
- 24:22place team decided to fire off 2 random trades out of the blue,
- 24:25both to play off teams. This bottom team sent Gabe
- 24:28Vilardi. Oh that's a name that's a nickel
- 24:30nickel and they gave Velardi chart.
- 24:32I've been set. Up with fades away.
- 24:34Yeah, this bottom team sent Gabe Vilardi for a third round pick.
- 24:37Filardi is second on his team in points.
- 24:39That's a rough team. The second trade he sent is
- 24:42Jared McCann for a sixth round pick.
- 24:44My concern lies with the apathy shown by this manager not being
- 24:47active during the season and then seemingly randomly sends
- 24:49out these trades. When I asked the manager why or
- 24:51if he thought these were good trades, he acknowledged that he
- 24:53knew they were bad and he was fine with canceling them.
- 24:55They're not going through at all, confirming once again his
- 24:57apathy towards the league. My question is, should I allow
- 25:00this trade and if so, where's the line considered concerning
- 25:02an egregious imbalance and trade?
- 25:04My second question is, do you think this is a situation where
- 25:06I kick the team from the league? Hold on, do they go through?
- 25:09Or did he just he's deciding right now.
- 25:11Like they were accepted. That means yeah, yeah.
- 25:15I was like, he's kicking me out just for signing the trains.
- 25:17That's pretty wild. So no one would be left in our
- 25:20league if that happened. So I've been a commissioner for
- 25:23many leagues, especially specifically fantasy football.
- 25:26Where do Commission a keeper league?
- 25:28So I've had to deal with similar stuff like this in 90 leagues as
- 25:32well as a point. I never tried to veto trades or
- 25:37cancel any trades because you know, who are you to decide
- 25:40what's a good trade or what not. Like a trade that looks
- 25:42egregious right now could look, you know, opposite like lopsided
- 25:45in the opposite way in a year from now or in a couple months
- 25:47from now, right? So you want to be careful, but
- 25:49this is a player for picks, right?
- 25:51Like is gave already going to be drafted in the first 3 rounds of
- 25:54your fantasy league next year? Absolutely not.
- 25:56That I was going to say with these traits, I actually feel
- 25:58like these are good trades. Last place guy like I don't
- 26:00think these are egregious trades like three for a third round
- 26:04pick. I'm like laughing, you know,
- 26:05obviously we don't know like their settings, right?
- 26:07It could be like you keep a ton of your.
- 26:08Players keeping six players, right?
- 26:10So every team is keeping six players. 14 teams in the league.
- 26:14So that's like that's round pick basically.
- 26:17I mean, Filardi, like I drafted him this year in like the 16th
- 26:20round, I think, I mean, I think that was a steal.
- 26:22But like ninth round, don't think that's unreasonable.
- 26:24Yeah. So, OK, so I'm going to keep
- 26:26really where we keep three guys. So as an example, Villard is
- 26:30probably gonna be my keeper and like the 15th next year or
- 26:32something like that. You're now getting a third round
- 26:35pick for him back and the team that accepted it.
- 26:38That's like 9 rounds difference in value, yeah.
- 26:42Yeah, it's a big deal. Yeah.
- 26:43Like I'm saying that I think this makes sense for the last
- 26:45place team. You know what?
- 26:46I mean this one. Is I think the more the bigger
- 26:48issue here is not the actual trades.
- 26:50I don't think either of these seems like a bad trade.
- 26:52Yeah. I think the issue is more just
- 26:53like he seems to feel like the general apathy towards the
- 26:56league and stuff and the fact that this guy's 3 and 16.
- 26:58I mean, I don't think you can do that poorly if you're an active
- 27:00manager, right? Like, even if you're you draft
- 27:02terribly, like if you make your pickups every week, you're gonna
- 27:05win some matches, you know, like, you're not gonna go 3 and
- 27:0716. So in one sense, like, if
- 27:09they're just a super inactive team who doesn't care at all, I
- 27:12would be OK kicking them. Yeah, but I wouldn't base it off
- 27:14these trades. I don't think these are
- 27:15unreasonable. This is the type of situation
- 27:18where I think also, first of all, for these trades, I'd ask
- 27:21both managers what they think and how they think it benefits
- 27:23their team. If there was outrage, if you're
- 27:26the commissioner, you're the only one that's kind of like
- 27:28bringing something up to this. Maybe it's less lopsided than
- 27:31you expect, but I'd ask both players and one guy just like,
- 27:35yeah, cancelled them, process them.
- 27:36I don't give like whoops, another bleep guys.
- 27:41Then why does it never just I also just like, you know, when
- 27:44managers like that I tried to avoid trades with because it's
- 27:49just this person has been inactive all year and then you
- 27:51kind of feel like you're trying to take advantage of them
- 27:53basically. So just be careful as the other
- 27:56guys what they think. I I think next year I'd probably
- 28:00try to find a replacement if that's me.
- 28:02Yeah, independently of the Teresa.
- 28:04For me. It's a seriously, right.
- 28:05It's a keeper, Lee. How many years has it been going
- 28:07on? Like has this person have good
- 28:09keepers? Like, yeah, you don't know what
- 28:10the story is, but. Yeah, exactly.
- 28:12Like I wouldn't be doing it because of those trades.
- 28:14I'd be doing it more just because their general.
- 28:16Although they can for 6th round pick, a sixth round pick feels
- 28:19like that's nothing. Yeah, but Macy's been terrible
- 28:21this year. Yeah.
- 28:22But if they're trading for that, I mean six waivers must be like.
- 28:26Keeper league, that's round 12. I would not be taking McKenna
- 28:29the top 12 rounds of our league. But it's gonna be it's, it's, I
- 28:31think it's, they're also 14, right?
- 28:34So. Ours were 12, so yeah, anyway.
- 28:36So Call Field was picked in the sixth round, keeper league that
- 28:38I'm in this year. So you're training McCann this
- 28:40year for a Call Field esque player next year.
- 28:42That's not bad. Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 28:44The third round and I go was picked.
- 28:47That's crazy. Right.
- 28:48Well, I mean this is what it was for most I.
- 28:50Don't think, I don't think those equate with this situation
- 28:52because there's already guys that are taken off the board.
- 28:55Yeah, same. Here, Yeah, I think, I think we
- 28:57all agree on that so. Good luck.
- 29:00Yeah. Sounds like quite the situation.
- 29:02Yeah, alright, next we've got Sergeant Pepper asked.
- 29:06Sorokin or Gustafson. Rest of season.
- 29:08Gustafson, Sorokin. Wow.
- 29:11OK, I think. Great in-depth analysis.
- 29:14If any volume cats are involved in your league, it's stroken by
- 29:20far because Sorokin is playing literally every game.
- 29:24Every back. He's playing every game he does.
- 29:27But his quality is not great. He just beat Winnipeg on a
- 29:31back-to-back. But he the first game he had a
- 29:33terrible. Game, I know, but also if you
- 29:35watch the game, Islanders just are not good, right?
- 29:37So there's that. He's on the but he's still a
- 29:39great goal. We've seen Justin have his ups
- 29:41and downs and I think he's significantly fallen off from
- 29:43where he was at the start of the season.
- 29:45So I'm banking on the quality of an exceptional goaltender.
- 29:50And Minnesota has a bunch of injuries too, like you don't
- 29:53know if they're gonna, you know, win every game like they used to
- 29:55do, right? So I'm making on you're going to
- 29:58quality starts of Sorokin where even though the Islanders are
- 30:01not good, he can still beat Winnipeg 21 and have a great
- 30:06save percentage goals against average.
- 30:07And Jake, you said? And you have nobody else.
- 30:11Like he's played every single game, even back-to-back.
- 30:14Yeah, but if they tank, which I don't know how far off that is
- 30:18necessarily, then they're gonna start playing them less because
- 30:20they have no incentive to try to.
- 30:22They can't play unless they have nobody else.
- 30:24Jacob Scary. Yeah.
- 30:26Do not want to play Jacob Skerik.
- 30:29Yeah, I mean for the for the sense.
- 30:30Of like, no, but I mean, Jake is right.
- 30:32If they like sell Nelson and like Paul Mary, yeah, they're
- 30:35clearly tanking like it's in their best interest one, to not
- 30:37overwork him cause they want to injure him and to actually lose
- 30:40games. So they don't wanna be playing
- 30:41him. So I'm also going with
- 30:43Gustafsson actually, because the while they're actually really
- 30:47bad lately, so weird start to my, to my explanation.
- 30:50But yeah, they've been really bad lately.
- 30:51But the GM has come out and said that both Kaprizov and Erickson
- 30:56Eck are expected back in the regular season.
- 30:58And even with their injuries, they're not doing great.
- 31:01But they're still a better team than the Islanders, even with
- 31:03their injuries. And then add on to that the fact
- 31:05that Minnesota has one of the best playoff schedules, at least
- 31:08in terms of games played. Their opponents are a bit like
- 31:10on the tougher side, but still, they've got four games in both
- 31:13Week 23 and 24. And I think Ericsson, Ek and
- 31:15Kaprizov will be back by then, so I'm going with Gustafsson.
- 31:18If if, if there's like saves or wins, I'd probably go Sorokin.
- 31:22But if those are not in your lead and then I think, yeah,
- 31:25Augustus and probably makes more sense.
- 31:26I definitely think wins. I would take Gustafson over
- 31:28Stroken. Yeah, yeah, a lot over the last
- 31:30month they have the same amount of wins.
- 31:32Yeah, that's like Minnesota at their worst.
- 31:34And like Sorokin. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:36For fast assuming they sell anyways, but he's.
- 31:38Obviously a way better goalie by the.
- 31:40Way, Yeah. Things like probably the best
- 31:42goalie in the League, One top. Three.
- 31:45Not best, but he's top five. Top five for sure.
- 31:47In terms of actual skill, yeah. Yeah, he's incredible.
- 31:49It's just not as elite. They're just way better way.
- 31:52Better team, Yeah, a lot of really good goalie oriented.
- 31:55Questions. Seriously.
- 31:56I guess it's that time of the year.
- 31:58All right. Last question.
- 31:59The best question. All three of us get.
- 32:02Killed. Who's the question from?
- 32:04Questions from Helen on Instagram.
- 32:08And the question is all three of us get killed, not not died,
- 32:13specifically get killed. Who would you want your
- 32:15girlfriend to date in the NHL? Why do we have to get killed?
- 32:23This is the way the question was intended.
- 32:28I think, I think Jiggy embellished the question a
- 32:29little bit. Does how we got killed like
- 32:34affect the answer? Well, let's, let's discuss that.
- 32:37What? In what world do all three of us
- 32:39die together? Get killed?
- 32:42Sure. I mean it.
- 32:44Must be somebody sees their ship on call order and it's just like
- 32:47it follows us, follows us. And some rival hockey podcast,
- 32:51you know, she's a take out the competition.
- 32:56Plane crashes into my apartment while recording.
- 32:58The Commissioners League gets kicked out of his league.
- 33:02No, somebody doesn't. That's really upset with the
- 33:06advice we've given. Someone picked up and dropped,
- 33:10gave Belardi 20 Christmas season.
- 33:14Definition of example already shows up.
