- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Well, for this whole week,
- 0:13Speaker 1: you could be chasing your favorite Formula One driver, and

- 0:19Speaker 1: and places to be if you want to spot your favorites.
- 0:22Speaker 1: It's Joakim Gomez going solo today as Sonny Chow's busy
- 0:25Speaker 1: today as well. Details in a while. Singapore's number one
- 0:28Speaker 1: hit music station.
- 0:34Speaker 1: So aside from Formula One, this weekend, we see the
- 0:37Speaker 1: return of the Premier League at last. Yes. Woo.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Really cannot wait for this one because we need some
- 0:44Speaker 1: of the footballing action, especially from your favorite clubs. So,
- 0:48Speaker 1: here's some timings for you. At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday,
- 0:52Speaker 1: it's Arsenal against Leeds. At 10:0:00 p.m. Aston Villa against Brentford,
- 0:57Speaker 1: Ipswich Town against Fulham. If you're a Chelsea fan, your
- 1:00Speaker 1: team are in action against AFC Bournemouth, and at 12:30 a.m.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Sunday morning, man.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Chester United against Tottenham Hotspur. Lots riding on this game,
- 1:12Speaker 1: and some people are saying that whoever loses, the manager
- 1:14Speaker 1: of the losing team might get sacked. We'll see if
- 1:17Speaker 1: it happens. And the big one on Sunday, maybe say
- 1:20Speaker 1: slightly after the Singapore Grand Prix, it's Liverpool against Manchester City.
- 1:26Speaker 1: May your favorite team win, and here we go. Cannot
- 1:30Speaker 1: wait for footballing action to return. OK, we got 3 text.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Messages coming in. I want to say good morning to Jared.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Jared's saying, hey, Joakim, I have a composition exam this week.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Please wish me all the best. All the best to you, Jared.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And also, I wanna say good morning to Katie. Katie says, hey, Joakim,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I want to wish all the best to myself for
- 1:51Speaker 1: my end of year results, especially math cause I need
- 1:54Speaker 1: to get A one so that my math class can
- 1:57Speaker 1: have pizza. Oh, that's interesting.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Could use a nice pizza right now. And one more
- 2:02Speaker 1: coming in from Oscar. Oscar, you're from Kenosa Catholic Primary
- 2:06Speaker 1: School and you want to wish all your primary 5
- 2:08Speaker 1: friends taking English paper 1 and listening compre today all
- 2:13Speaker 1: the best. Now, if you're the kind of person that
- 2:15Speaker 1: really enjoys watching musicals, aside from Monkey Goes West, which
- 2:19Speaker 1: will be staged very soon, all thanks to our friends
- 2:22Speaker 1: over at Wild Rice. If you love international musicals coming
- 2:26Speaker 1: to Singapore, chances are
- 2:27Speaker 1: It will be staged at maybe say the Marina Bay
- 2:30Speaker 1: Sands Theater or maybe even the Esplanade Theater as well.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And if you walk past Marina Bay Sands, you would
- 2:36Speaker 1: have seen the banners already. Playing very soon will be Cats,
- 2:40Speaker 1: the Musical, and I think for Cats, um,
- 2:44Speaker 1: OK. Personal take. I think we as the audience are
- 2:48Speaker 1: all waiting for that one song, Memory, All Alone in
- 2:52Speaker 1: the moonlight. That's the one. And then come next year
- 2:56Speaker 1: in February, if you love Moulin Rouge.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Rouge the Musical playing at Marina Bay Sands Theater in
- 3:08Speaker 1: the month of February, and this one, I cannot wait.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I really want to see how it's staged here in Singapore,
- 3:15Speaker 1: the official one for the month of August next year, 2027.
- 3:19Speaker 1: MJ the Musical, it will be in town.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And yes, Michael Jackson fever hitting Singapore again. Aside from
- 3:28Speaker 1: the movie earlier in the year and now next year
- 3:30Speaker 1: in August, we have the musical to look forward to.
- 3:33Speaker 1: So there you go. I believe tickets are available and
- 3:36Speaker 1: hopefully here on 987 as we draw closer to maybe
- 3:39Speaker 1: say Moulin Rouge the Musical or MJ the Musical, we
- 3:43Speaker 1: can bring in some of the stars and have a
- 3:45Speaker 1: chat with them. On the topic of the BCRS.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Machines and I actually did a campaign to launch it
- 3:52Speaker 1: with them in April and I told myself, hey, if
- 3:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna do something like this, I better practice what
- 3:56Speaker 1: I preach. So I have been actively going to the
- 3:58Speaker 1: BCRS machine very near my place just to put the
- 4:01Speaker 1: cans and the bottles in and get my 10 cents
- 4:04Speaker 1: back times how many cans of bottles I put in
- 4:06Speaker 1: to my DBS payer, or you could use it for
- 4:09Speaker 1: your Simply Go Ey link as well. But there is something.
- 4:13Speaker 1: The thing that we've been noticing, not just in the
- 4:15Speaker 1: area of Bishan, but I'm very sure other areas here
- 4:18Speaker 1: in Singapore that maybe at these machines, you're seeing people
- 4:22Speaker 1: queuing up with bags of cans and bottles, and they
- 4:26Speaker 1: just stand there and they happily recycle everything. We're getting
- 4:29Speaker 1: some heartwarming articles of kids doing it, of uncles and
- 4:32Speaker 1: aunties accumulating enough to maybe say reach the four-figure range. Wow.
- 4:37Speaker 1: But there is speculation.
- 4:40Speaker 1: that some people could be rummaging through the dustbins and
- 4:45Speaker 1: I don't mean to say this in a in a
- 4:49Speaker 1: condescending or demeaning way, but this is behavior that we've
- 4:52Speaker 1: we are no stranger to here in Singapore because I
- 4:55Speaker 1: remember
- 4:56Speaker 1: I think it was a few years ago, could be 10,
- 4:59Speaker 1: could be 15 years ago, where I remember whenever I
- 5:02Speaker 1: dined at the hawker center, there'll be an uncle or
- 5:05Speaker 1: auntie asking me, boy, do you want that can or not?
- 5:08Speaker 1: And I say, you can have it, uncle or auntie.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So they'll take the can and put it in the plastic.
- 5:12Speaker 1: bag and they'll go to other tables asking for people
- 5:14Speaker 1: for their cans or bottles, to which maybe that behavior
- 5:18Speaker 1: is slowly returning to Singapore, but here's the thing, if
- 5:21Speaker 1: you're the kind of person that throws your can or
- 5:23Speaker 1: bottle away after you dine, despite the BCRS still being there.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I mean, I wouldn't mind letting the uncle or auntie
- 5:30Speaker 1: have it, but in terms of rummaging through the rubbish
- 5:34Speaker 1: bins for the BCRS bottles and cans, according to Environment Minister,
- 5:39Speaker 1: Minister Grace Fu, she has said that it's against the law.
- 5:44Speaker 1: It includes removing items from public bins or leaving slash
- 5:48Speaker 1: spilling waste on the ground.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And the NEA has said that it will take enforcement
- 5:53Speaker 1: action against people who commit these offenses. So, there you go, that,
- 5:58Speaker 1: that's the official word for it, but
- 6:01Speaker 1: To what, to be fair and not to defend this
- 6:06Speaker 1: kind of behavior, but if people have to rummage through
- 6:09Speaker 1: the dustbins to pull out the BCRS cans to get
- 6:12Speaker 1: as much 10 cents as they can get for any
- 6:14Speaker 1: can or bottle they put in the machine, it makes
- 6:16Speaker 1: you wonder why they have to resort to this kind
- 6:18Speaker 1: of behavior. There's a lot that goes on that we
- 6:21Speaker 1: don't know or one picture alone can't show.
- 6:25Speaker 1: But if you're wondering what inspired this this discussion in parliament,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I believe it was that picture of the father and
- 6:31Speaker 1: son duo searching through a bin for BCRS containers. So
- 6:35Speaker 1: let's see whether will it be actively enforced and yeah,
- 6:39Speaker 1: this means I'm very sure maybe on TikTok or on
- 6:42Speaker 1: Instagram reels, we might see people start calling out people
- 6:46Speaker 1: for doing just that.
- 6:49Speaker 1: It's interesting social media culture sometimes. So yeah, again, if
- 6:52Speaker 1: you get any more updates, I'll let you know about
- 6:54Speaker 1: the whole BCRS movement here in Singapore, but can, if
- 6:57Speaker 1: you can, rather, no pun intended, do recycle and get
- 7:00Speaker 1: your 10 cents back if there's one near you, of course.
- 7:02Speaker 1: If not, just accumulate and maybe say plan a family
- 7:05Speaker 1: day activity to go find the machines and put it in.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Now as we count down to the Garmin Half marathon
- 7:12Speaker 1: here in Singapore, and maybe say even the GE run
- 7:15Speaker 1: and very soon.
- 7:17Speaker 1: The BYD Singapore International Marathon. Whatever distance you are doing,
- 7:22Speaker 1: I hope you're training well for it. If the haze
- 7:24Speaker 1: gets too bad here in Singapore, at least maybe you
- 7:27Speaker 1: run on the treadmill, run indoors, get your legs going.
- 7:30Speaker 1: You should be really approaching peak training period for you
- 7:34Speaker 1: if you're trying to go for that PB or at
- 7:36Speaker 1: least get your body used to running maybe 5, 1021,
- 7:40Speaker 1: or 42 kilometers if you're doing the BYD full marathon.
- 7:44Speaker 1: But when we come back, given how Singapore is now
- 7:48Speaker 1: a very active society, what, close to 87.3% of us
- 7:53Speaker 1: are doing some sort of physical activity, this might trigger
- 7:56Speaker 1: you if you're a runner, and this actually happened at
- 7:59Speaker 1: the Berlin Marathon. What I'm still unsure of is whether
- 8:04Speaker 1: is this an actual person or an AI generated image,
- 8:08Speaker 1: but loads of news outlets have reported on this one,
- 8:11Speaker 1: and I went
- 8:12Speaker 1: Talking on Xiaohongshu, this profile actually exists with 500,000+ followers. Earlier,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I shared with you how there was a running influencer
- 8:22Speaker 1: in all sorts of hot water now involving the Berlin Marathon,
- 8:27Speaker 1: and this is why, honestly, when, when it comes to
- 8:30Speaker 1: the word influencers, people often get a negative taste in
- 8:33Speaker 1: their mouths because bad behavior from them always goes viral. Like,
- 8:38Speaker 1: for example, if I tell you,
- 8:40Speaker 1: Girl MJ here in Singapore has been recognized as the
- 8:42Speaker 1: Her World's 2026 Young Woman Achiever Award. Would you know?
- 8:47Speaker 1: You might not, but if I tell you, hey, there's
- 8:49Speaker 1: a new cheating scandal on TikTok, you are gonna be
- 8:53Speaker 1: invested in that. Trust me, on Reddit right now, I'm
- 8:57Speaker 1: very sure everyone's breaking down that 100-page document that someone
- 9:02Speaker 1: put out on a brand new cheating scandal, and I'm
- 9:04Speaker 1: trying my best to understand everything, but wow.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I it's really complicated, but again, you see, when, when,
- 9:11Speaker 1: when public personalities or social media has drama, you more
- 9:14Speaker 1: or less follow it. So when it comes to this
- 9:17Speaker 1: Chinese influencer by the name of Air.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I, I'm guessing she's quite popular in China, especially on
- 9:24Speaker 1: the app of Xiaohongshu with over 500,000+ followers. The Berlin
- 9:29Speaker 1: Marathon happened over the past weekend, and it's a marathon
- 9:31Speaker 1: I wish to do. So hopefully if this year at
- 9:35Speaker 1: the BYD Singapore International Marathon, I break my own personal best.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Next year, I'll definitely try my best at some world
- 9:42Speaker 1: majors and hopefully I can bring 987 with me, broadcast
- 9:45Speaker 1: from wherever I'm running and do a video for you
- 9:47Speaker 1: as well.
- 9:48Speaker 1: What Abir did was she posted a picture of her
- 9:51Speaker 1: personal best timing, 4 hours and 53 minutes for a
- 9:56Speaker 1: full marathon. Well done. It's never easy for a full marathon,
- 9:59Speaker 1: sometimes just crossing the finish line, it's a win for
- 10:02Speaker 1: you already. But then, a bit of a scandal happened.
- 10:06Speaker 1: There was a picture.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Of Abir on board a bicycle at the 35 to
- 10:11Speaker 1: 40 km mark. And then when the timing was checked
- 10:14Speaker 1: by the official marathon time integrity unit, an account that
- 10:18Speaker 1: investigates suspicious marathon performances, so you can imagine the amount
- 10:22Speaker 1: of influencers and people faking their timings, and then when
- 10:25Speaker 1: this account investigates the timing, they realize, hey, hello, don't bluff, OK?
- 10:30Speaker 1: Um, there was a picture of her circulating on board
- 10:32Speaker 1: a bicycle, and they realized that, uh, her 35 km
- 10:36Speaker 1: to 40 km, 5 km split was 30 minutes and
- 10:40Speaker 1: 49 seconds. It's very fast as compared to her previous kilometers,
- 10:45Speaker 1: and people are wondering, eh, did she get a second wind?
- 10:48Speaker 1: How come she suddenly went very fast? Then they saw
- 10:51Speaker 1: the picture and the Berlin.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Marathon, I think, have issued a statement and also Brooks China,
- 10:58Speaker 1: who sponsored this athlete called Abeer, has terminated a sponsorship,
- 11:03Speaker 1: saying that it will never ever work again, and a
- 11:07Speaker 1: few days ago, she actually posted an apology. So, there
- 11:10Speaker 1: you go. The incident now going viral on TikTok and
- 11:13Speaker 1: people are calling out more running influencers for faking their.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Timings. It's very interesting. Loads of tea now. It's our
- 11:21Speaker 1: darling Sonia Chew, she's in for one heck of a day.
- 11:25Speaker 1: She's doing all the prep now. I'm very sure she's
- 11:27Speaker 1: doing her hair and makeup because she's getting ready to
- 11:30Speaker 1: host Charles Leclerc again over at the Puma store at
- 11:34Speaker 1: 313 Somerset, and according to her yesterday, she's given us
- 11:37Speaker 1: a bit of a timing. Charles Leclerc might be there
- 11:39Speaker 1: from 12-ish, 1.
- 11:40Speaker 1: p.m. so make sure you go on down early, get
- 11:43Speaker 1: a good spot, and hopefully you can catch a glimpse
- 11:45Speaker 1: of Charle Claire, and then she's zooming down to Vivo City,
- 11:50Speaker 1: the Puma store over there to host Lando Norris at
- 11:54Speaker 1: around 4 p.m. So whichever team you support, enjoy yourselves
- 11:58Speaker 1: as we all go Formula One sporting today. But also
- 12:01Speaker 1: inspired by what I shared earlier.
- 12:04Speaker 1: About how rummaging through the dustbins here in Singapore for
- 12:09Speaker 1: cans or bottles to put in the BCRS machines, according
- 12:13Speaker 1: to Minister Grace Food, it's against the law, and our
- 12:15Speaker 1: friends at NEA will enforce that again, just delivering to
- 12:18Speaker 1: you the message. Don't hate the messenger, but rummaging through
- 12:22Speaker 1: the bins kinda brings back a bit of a painful
- 12:25Speaker 1: and disgusting memory for me. Yes, let me share and
- 12:28Speaker 1: digress for a bit. My mom.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Who's tuned in from Korea. Hello mom. Hope you're enjoying
- 12:34Speaker 1: your walk near Lote area. Um, she has this very
- 12:38Speaker 1: bad habit. She will sometimes panic, and I'll say, Mom,
- 12:42Speaker 1: what happened? What happened? No, I think I threw my phone.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Oh no, I think I threw the scissors in the dustbin.
- 12:48Speaker 1: And if it's the scissors, I'll be like, Ma, never mind,
- 12:50Speaker 1: I'll go to popular bookstore and buy a new one
- 12:52Speaker 1: for you. But when it comes to the phone, right,
- 12:55Speaker 1: and when I say dustbin, I, I don't mean like
- 12:57Speaker 1: the house waste bin or what, no, it's, it's like
- 12:59Speaker 1: the dustbin chute dustbin, and given how it's an old HDB,
- 13:03Speaker 1: we have one in our house. Yeah, she might have
- 13:05Speaker 1: thrown it inside. So there were a couple of times
- 13:08Speaker 1: before find my iPhone became a thing, and by the way,
- 13:12Speaker 1: my mom likes to keep her phone in silent mode
- 13:14Speaker 1: as well. So if you call it
- 13:16Speaker 1: Uh, if it doesn't vibrate, chances are we, we can't
- 13:19Speaker 1: hear where it is.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I had to go down to the dustbin chute area.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Had to ask the workers for help. They opened the
- 13:27Speaker 1: chute for me and I had to use gloves and
- 13:29Speaker 1: rummage through the rubbish, searching for the phone, you know. Yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 1: and after what seemed to be the longest 2 minutes
- 13:38Speaker 1: of my life, I hear my mom screaming upstairs, Joy,
- 13:41Speaker 1: never mind, I found it. It's in my room.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Yep,
- 13:48Speaker 1: Yes, and this has happened more than once and thankfully, uh,
- 13:53Speaker 1: she didn't actually throw the phone away or anything important.
- 13:57Speaker 1: It was actually in her room or sometimes she might
- 13:59Speaker 1: forget where she placed it and she appears out of nowhere,
- 14:02Speaker 1: but I'm very sure you might have a painful story,
- 14:05Speaker 1: painful with open inverted commas to share.
- 14:08Speaker 1: When it comes to rummaging, rummaging through the bins to
- 14:11Speaker 1: find something you threw away by accident. It could be
- 14:14Speaker 1: a ring, it could be an important document, it could
- 14:17Speaker 1: be anything that's precious to you or something that you need.
- 14:21Speaker 1: What is it? Sometimes you can hate yourself for going
- 14:24Speaker 1: to go to the rubbish bin to
- 14:26Speaker 1: Rummage through it to find something you threw away by accident.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I want to say hello to Waylon on 987's WhatsApp.
- 14:34Speaker 1: That's 90050987, and Waylon says, Hey, Joakim, my husband bought
- 14:40Speaker 1: McDonald's to get the special Pokemon card. Ah, yes, when
- 14:43Speaker 1: they had that special deal thing.
- 14:45Speaker 1: My daughter threw away the bag holding the food after
- 14:49Speaker 1: she took out the food down to our rubbish tube.
- 14:51Speaker 1: This is the only time she actually helped to throw
- 14:53Speaker 1: the rubbish. Kind intentions, we love her actions, but not
- 14:56Speaker 1: this time. In the end, we didn't go to search
- 14:59Speaker 1: for the Pokemon cards as it was too late at night,
- 15:02Speaker 1: and I replied saying, I hope there were no rare
- 15:04Speaker 1: cards in the pack, and Waylan replied to me saying
- 15:07Speaker 1: there could have been, oh no, just
- 15:09Speaker 1: Imagine. I want to go to the phone lines right now, 669-0-11987. Sha,
- 15:15Speaker 1: what is your story about rummaging through the dustbin to
- 15:18Speaker 1: find something you threw away by accident?
- 15:21Speaker 2: So I had
- 15:21Speaker 2: the habit to put my wallet all in a plastic bag.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Whatever bag I'm carrying, I was just like, OK, just
- 15:27Speaker 2: dump it in first. So when we were at our
- 15:29Speaker 2: friend's place, I totally forgot about his wallet inside a
- 15:32Speaker 2: plastic bag. Oh no.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Yes, so what happened was, um, because nobody knows there's
- 15:39Speaker 2: a wallet inside the bag, so they literally actually throw
- 15:43Speaker 2: it in a bin.
- 15:46Speaker 2: And that bin is, you know, those BTOs, which is
- 15:49Speaker 2: the
- 15:49Speaker 2: centralized,
- 15:50Speaker 1: the common, the common bin, OK, yes,
- 15:52Speaker 2: yeah, yes, the common bin. So, um, the host actually
- 15:56Speaker 2: wanted to throw all the rubbish, so they throw away
- 15:59Speaker 2: the whole bunch of rubbish together with his wallet and
- 16:02Speaker 2: in a plastic bag. So when we were going back,
- 16:05Speaker 2: he was actually looking for his wallet. No, we were
- 16:08Speaker 2: when we were home, he was looking for wallet.
- 16:10Speaker 2: So we thought that, OK, maybe it's our friend's place.
- 16:12Speaker 2: So we called our friends. They said, no, there isn't any.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Then he was asking me, where is the wallet? I
- 16:17Speaker 2: remember the last I put inside a plastic bag. So
- 16:19Speaker 2: we asked for that plastic bag and sadly my friend said, oh,
- 16:22Speaker 2: actually I threw away that plastic bag. So he literally
- 16:25Speaker 2: had to search that bin. He had to call the
- 16:30Speaker 2: town council guy to help to, yeah, to help to
- 16:32Speaker 2: open the bin. So it took him, how many hours?
- 16:37Speaker 2: About 2 hours.
- 16:38Speaker 2: To dig that whole rubbish bin and finally he managed
- 16:41Speaker 2: to find his wallet. Oh,
- 16:43Speaker 1: thank goodness, but I'm very sure the wallet doesn't smell
- 16:46Speaker 1: the same anymore lah.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Oh no, it was in the.
- 16:50Speaker 2: OK, there isn't smell. There isn't.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Fair enough, fair enough. Thank you so much for your call,
- 16:55Speaker 1: Shah and Fa. You take care, OK? On the topic
- 16:58Speaker 1: of having to rummage through a dustbin to find something
- 17:02Speaker 1: you threw away by accident, yes, giving a different branch
- 17:05Speaker 1: to how rummaging through the dustbins for the bees.
- 17:08Speaker 1: VCRS uh cans and bottles. It's against the law, and
- 17:13Speaker 1: our friends over at NEA will enforce it. But yeah,
- 17:15Speaker 1: trying to find a fun spin to it. It brought
- 17:17Speaker 1: back memories of myself having to rummage through the bin
- 17:20Speaker 1: to find my mother's phone. And after what seemed to
- 17:23Speaker 1: be the longest 2 to 3 minutes of my life,
- 17:26Speaker 1: my mom shouts from upstairs, Joakim, it's OK. I found it.
- 17:28Speaker 1: It's in my room.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Hey, mom, mom. I want to say good morning to Aaliyah.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Aaliyah says, hey, Joakim, this reminds me of my dad.
- 17:36Speaker 1: He accidentally threw his pager together with the rubbish while
- 17:41Speaker 1: we had dinner the night before and the rubbish was
- 17:45Speaker 1: thrown in the rubbish chute. By the way, for those
- 17:47Speaker 1: of you who might not know what a pager is,
- 17:49Speaker 1: a pager is something where in the late 80s, 90s,
- 17:54Speaker 1: before handphones really became a thing, it's a device where
- 17:58Speaker 1: you call the number.
- 17:59Speaker 1: And if I'm anywhere here in Singapore, I get the signal,
- 18:02Speaker 1: you will hear a loud.
- 18:06Speaker 1: And I'll look at my pocket, I'll press the button
- 18:09Speaker 1: and I see, oh, this number is trying to call me,
- 18:11Speaker 1: so I'll find the nearest public phone and I'll call
- 18:13Speaker 1: it back. That's a pager for you.
- 18:16Speaker 1: So he realized that he, when he, when he wanted
- 18:18Speaker 1: to go to work the next day, his pager was missing.
- 18:22Speaker 1: He went to the rubbish chute downstairs and tried to
- 18:24Speaker 1: open it, and when the workers saw him, they helped him.
- 18:27Speaker 1: It was very hard because of the pager, so we
- 18:29Speaker 1: had to keep sending messages for the pager to keep
- 18:31Speaker 1: on beeping. What a memory. Thank you so much for sharing, Aliyah.
- 18:34Speaker 1: And one more coming in from Wei Xian. Wei Xian says,
- 18:38Speaker 1: Morning, Joe. I've been a quiet listener for quite some time.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Not my own story, but this happened to my sister-in-law.
- 18:44Speaker 1: A friend of hers left a degree certificate at the
- 18:47Speaker 1: corner of the floor in her room with some random
- 18:50Speaker 1: stuff also on the floor when she visited. The friend
- 18:53Speaker 1: forgot to bring it home. One day, father-in-law was cleaning
- 18:57Speaker 1: the house and went into sister-in-law's room to help her
- 19:00Speaker 1: clear her room.
- 19:01Speaker 1: bin and packed the floor. He thought the stuff on
- 19:04Speaker 1: the floor were unwanted. He picked up and threw everything
- 19:07Speaker 1: into the tube.
- 19:09Speaker 1: At night, my sister-in-law went to look for the cert
- 19:11Speaker 1: to return to her friend. Nothing can be found. I,
- 19:15Speaker 1: she asked her dad and he said, Oh, everything went
- 19:17Speaker 1: into the bin earlier this morning. She was speechless. I
- 19:21Speaker 1: think they tried to ask the, the block cleaners, but
- 19:23Speaker 1: nothing can be found. In the end, I think my
- 19:26Speaker 1: sister-in-law apologized to a friend, and they had to ask
- 19:28Speaker 1: the school for a reprint. Thank you so much for
- 19:30Speaker 1: sharing your story, Wei Xian. Wanna say good morning to
- 19:33Speaker 1: Jossy on WhatsApp. Jossy says, hey, Joakim,
- 19:36Speaker 1: Years ago, my seventeen-year-old cousin was at Nyan City with
- 19:39Speaker 1: her boyfriend when they had a very bad fight. She
- 19:42Speaker 1: was so angry and upset that she took off the
- 19:45Speaker 1: ring which he had bought her and threw it into
- 19:48Speaker 1: one of the bins which used to be located around
- 19:51Speaker 1: the basement events hall area. Those bins had a lot
- 19:54Speaker 1: of food wrappers and cups in the B2.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Called unfinished food and drink. The couple made up a
- 20:00Speaker 1: bit later and they had to search through the dirty,
- 20:03Speaker 1: sticky bin in public to try and find the ring
- 20:07Speaker 1: my cousin threw inside. They were 17 and the ring
- 20:09Speaker 1: was expensive and precious. They never found the ring after
- 20:13Speaker 1: all the embarrassment and mess. They broke up a few
- 20:16Speaker 1: years later. Maybe it was a sign. Yeah, there you go.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I mean,
- 20:22Speaker 1: When you're angry, right, at 17, what do we know better? Yeah,
- 20:27Speaker 1: just express your anger in the best way you know how.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Going to the phone lines though, 669-119-87. Magdalene, what's your
- 20:35Speaker 2: story? Alright, so me and my husband, we were moving
- 20:37Speaker 2: house and then we ran out of boxes. So we
- 20:40Speaker 2: started to pack our things.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Those black garbage bags, right? And you know, assumingly we
- 20:46Speaker 2: will straight away just unpack stuff from the black garbage bag,
- 20:49Speaker 2: because it's just like a 15 minutes um drive from,
- 20:53Speaker 2: you know, our old place to the new one. And
- 20:55Speaker 2: then so I just asked my husband, oh, have you
- 20:57Speaker 2: unpacked everything? He said, yeah, I unpacked and I cleared
- 21:00Speaker 2: all the trash bags. So I was like, oh great.
- 21:02Speaker 2: So then the next morning, so that was late at night,
- 21:05Speaker 2: and then the next morning I opened my, my shoe
- 21:08Speaker 2: cabinet to, you know, look at my shoes. And then
- 21:12Speaker 2: I realized, where are all my shoes? And that's like
- 21:15Speaker 2: 8 pairs that I, yeah, I remember because I collected
- 21:18Speaker 2: like 1 luxury pair for every milestone in my life. Nice.
- 21:22Speaker 2: And then I realized he said, oh, I threw all
- 21:25Speaker 2: the trash bags down the bin, and I was like,
- 21:27Speaker 2: didn't you check what?
- 21:29Speaker 2: Yeah, he was like, did you check what's in there?
- 21:31Speaker 2: He said, Oh, I thought it was just boxes. I
- 21:33Speaker 2: was like it's box shoes in those boxes.
- 21:37Speaker 2: And then, um, I was, I was, I ran down.
- 21:41Speaker 2: I asked the, the rubbish guys. I said like, you know,
- 21:44Speaker 2: because we live in a condo, so I said, OK, where,
- 21:46Speaker 2: where's the, where's the chute? And then he was like,
- 21:49Speaker 2: oh dear. And then the, the security uncles also followed
- 21:52Speaker 2: me into the trash chute because I was grieving, I
- 21:55Speaker 2: was crying, I was panicking. And then they brought me
- 21:59Speaker 2: to the huge, you know, the huge compartment whereby they
- 22:02Speaker 2: had to like crush all
- 22:03Speaker 2: of the.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Yes, correct. But then when, and I literally climbed in,
- 22:09Speaker 2: the uncle was like, you sure you wanna do it,
- 22:10Speaker 2: we can do it. I said, no, I have to
- 22:12Speaker 2: do it.
- 22:15Speaker 2: It was really like gross, but, but I was desperate
- 22:18Speaker 2: for those shoes then. Yeah, um, because you can't buy
- 22:20Speaker 2: them anymore, right? And then I found the shoes, but
- 22:24Speaker 2: they were all crushed. It was, yeah, like my experience, yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 2: So
- 22:29Speaker 1: how long was the silent treatment for then with your husband?
- 22:34Speaker 2: Oh, it's sadly there wasn't silent treatment. It was noise
- 22:37Speaker 2: every day like my shoes, my shoes. Every time we
- 22:41Speaker 2: walk past like the, the, you know, those branded shops,
- 22:44Speaker 2: my shoes.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Oh no. Did he make up for, did he, did
- 22:46Speaker 1: he buy you shoes then to make up for it? Yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 2: yeah, he make up for, for bags and shoes. So I,
- 22:52Speaker 2: I guess he has a lifetime to prove it.
- 22:55Speaker 1: And I'm almost reminded of I show Speed and the
- 22:58Speaker 1: Kudasai personality and maybe even Mickey Rae as well. You know, when, when,
- 23:02Speaker 1: when TikTok famous people come to Singapore and for Speed,
- 23:06Speaker 1: I guess now worldwide, and they announce like, hey, can
- 23:09Speaker 1: I have a fair me and all that somewhere, um,
- 23:12Speaker 1: chances are the police will show up, OK? And not
- 23:16Speaker 1: because they are killjoys or whatsoever, no. We have rules
- 23:20Speaker 1: in Singapore that need to be followed, lah. I mean,
- 23:22Speaker 1: if you tell me hundreds of people gathered.
- 23:25Speaker 1: At one spot. Of course, if I'm a police officer,
- 23:28Speaker 1: I wanna go and investigate and see what's happening here.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Is there a permit for this much people to be here?
- 23:32Speaker 1: If not, can you all please disperse and to the Creator,
- 23:36Speaker 1: if you want to, you know, host a fan meet,
- 23:38Speaker 1: maybe go through the proper channels so that there could be.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Um, there could be something in place to make sure
- 23:46Speaker 1: everyone is safe and you're not obstructing any areas or
- 23:49Speaker 1: causing a disturbance to the peace here in Singapore. So that, that,
- 23:52Speaker 1: that's the rule that we have. So I believe an
- 23:54Speaker 1: I show Speed was here in Singapore. Yeah, there was
- 23:57Speaker 1: a couple of issues with his very first visit. The
- 24:00Speaker 1: next visit went well, and I think he ended with
- 24:02Speaker 1: a very nice bungee jump and there was uh fireworks
- 24:04Speaker 1: and all that over at Sentosa.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Um, and then I wanna draw your attention to this
- 24:11Speaker 1: guy whose videos have appeared on my FYP, and I
- 24:14Speaker 1: always tell my basketball friends, wow, this guy is really
- 24:18Speaker 1: rage bait number one in the way he plays, but
- 24:21Speaker 1: he's able to play his game. He talks his game
- 24:25Speaker 1: a whole lot, but he plays really well as well.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Want to say hello to Matt Kiapis. He's here in Singapore.
- 24:31Speaker 1: 3.5 million followers on Instagram.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Loads more on TikTok as well. And he actually announced that, hey,
- 24:38Speaker 1: my 1v1 event is happening over at Chinatown. And yesterday
- 24:42Speaker 1: when it took place, there were loads of people there. Yes,
- 24:46Speaker 1: your Gen Z's, your Gen alphas, people who are fans
- 24:50Speaker 1: of basketball and the kind of content that he puts out.
- 24:53Speaker 1: They were there at the court, and the police showed up,
- 24:56Speaker 1: and they had to really disperse people. And Matt was
- 24:59Speaker 1: actually interviewed by a news outlet. I, I forgot whether
- 25:02Speaker 1: was it CNA or whether was it Mothership.
- 25:04Speaker 1: And I don't know, but I saw a different side
- 25:08Speaker 1: to Matt. I, I was expecting his persona to be
- 25:11Speaker 1: on camera and all that, but actually, he was very
- 25:14Speaker 1: gracious about it. He praised the police for doing so, uh, for,
- 25:17Speaker 1: for dispersing the crowd in a very respectful manner, and
- 25:20Speaker 1: he hopes to organize it proper. So hopefully, someone has
- 25:23Speaker 1: guided Matt to organize a good permit, to have a
- 25:26Speaker 1: good permit, and to have that 1 v1 situation here
- 25:29Speaker 1: in Singapore because I think in Singapore, we have loads.
- 25:32Speaker 1: of ballers that don't mind going up against him and
- 25:35Speaker 1: put their skills to the test. So I really hope
- 25:37Speaker 1: it happens. Matt, if you're still in town, hopefully, us
- 25:40Speaker 1: here at 987 can get you on board our radio
- 25:42Speaker 1: show for a very quick chat. And OK, again, what
- 25:45Speaker 1: a year it's been for Singapore films. I want to
- 25:48Speaker 1: say congratulations to the likes of We Are All Strangers,
- 25:52Speaker 1: the violinist Aal Bua, and she said, all getting nominations
- 25:57Speaker 1: for the Golden Horse Awards. Congratulations.
- 26:01Speaker 1: And for We Are All Strangers, if I'm not wrong,
- 26:03Speaker 1: it's being submitted for the Academy Awards for International Feature Films.
- 26:07Speaker 1: So all the best to you guys. But yesterday, I mean,
- 26:10Speaker 1: if you follow people like Benjamin King, Nathan Hartono, O Shuan,
- 26:14Speaker 1: Estel Fly, Fauzi, all on social media, you'd have seen
- 26:18Speaker 1: that they were at the premiere of their brand new
- 26:21Speaker 1: movie called The Sandbox. And let me read the synopsis
- 26:25Speaker 1: to you, OK? When an online rumor starts that Marvel
- 26:29Speaker 1: is looking to cast its next big superhero out of Singapore. Sandbox,
- 26:33Speaker 1: a struggling stunt training school, is suddenly inundated with hopeless wannabes,
- 26:39Speaker 1: hoping to become movie stars. With only a week to
- 26:42Speaker 1: make them look good, can the Sandbox team turn these
- 26:45Speaker 1: zombies into heroes and maybe even save themselves in the process. Interesting.
- 26:51Speaker 1: It's about 1 hour and 53 minutes long and the
- 26:54Speaker 1: reviews are in, people are saying Singapore-style.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Comedy is back. Not too much of slapstick, so it's
- 27:00Speaker 1: nice to see people like Oon Shuan, for example, Andrew Marko,
- 27:03Speaker 1: John Cancio, people who I've seen on the theater stage
- 27:06Speaker 1: and are amazing actors gracing the movie with their appearances.
- 27:11Speaker 1: And of course, needless to say, the likes of Benjamin King,
- 27:13Speaker 1: Nathan Hartono, Fauzi, Xuan Ong, Estelle Fly, and Peps Goh
- 27:18Speaker 1: of Sandbox is in the film. So if you can,
- 27:21Speaker 1: it's out in cinemas officially, I believe, tomorrow.
- 27:25Speaker 1: And with some previews happening today as well, so please
- 27:27Speaker 1: go support another locally made film. And look, I know
- 27:32Speaker 1: it's been very F1 heavy the last few days. It's
- 27:35Speaker 1: only gonna get better, better when I say if you're
- 27:39Speaker 1: a Formula One fan, more news, more driver sightings coming
- 27:43Speaker 1: your way. And again today, if you're tuned in, you
- 27:46Speaker 1: might want to either avoid these areas if you're not
- 27:49Speaker 1: a fan or especially if you're driving as well, or
- 27:52Speaker 1: Or if you are a fan and you want to
- 27:54Speaker 1: take public transport and go on down to some of
- 27:56Speaker 1: these places, again, I'm gonna give you more details. For
- 28:00Speaker 1: Sonny Chew, she's not on the show today because she's
- 28:03Speaker 1: busy prepping for one very busy day with two heavyweights
- 28:08Speaker 1: of the Formula One game as we speak right now.
- 28:11Speaker 1: So from 12-ish to 1 p.m. Charles Leclerc is slated
- 28:15Speaker 1: to make an appearance over at the Puma store at
- 28:18Speaker 1: 313 Somerset, and then,
- 28:21Speaker 1: At 4 p.m. over at the Puma store at Vivo City,
- 28:24Speaker 1: Lando Norris will be there. So if you want to
- 28:27Speaker 1: track Sonia's movements, I believe yesterday she shared that she'll
- 28:31Speaker 1: be going live on Puma Singapore's Instagram or maybe even
- 28:34Speaker 1: TikTok as well. So stay very close to that. If
- 28:37Speaker 1: you're fans of Audi, Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto will
- 28:42Speaker 1: be at Funan at 7:30 p.m.
- 28:45Speaker 1: p.m. And of course, if you want to check out
- 28:49Speaker 1: our friends over at the VCAP team for racing bulls,
- 28:53Speaker 1: we got the likes of Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblatt,
- 28:56Speaker 1: who will be making an appearance over at Ion Orchard
- 28:59Speaker 1: at perhaps maybe say 6:20 to 6:30 p.m. and then
- 29:03Speaker 1: they're gonna zoom down to Resorts World Sentosa for the
- 29:06Speaker 1: Festival of Thrills event. They'll be on stage. I'll be
- 29:08Speaker 1: hosting that one.
- 29:10Speaker 1: And again, there'll be a Q&A along with their team principal,
- 29:13Speaker 1: Allan Permain. So please come on down and make sure
- 29:17Speaker 1: you look out for each other. Hydrate, dress according to
- 29:20Speaker 1: the weather, and don't push and squeeze each other. I
- 29:23Speaker 1: know everybody wants a selfie with your favorite driver, but
- 29:27Speaker 1: please do so in orderly fashion. And look, it's full-time
- 29:32Speaker 1: between Argentina and Benin.
- 29:34Speaker 1: And why am I focusing on this game? It's Lionel
- 29:37Speaker 1: Messi's final game for Argentina. He gives two assists to
- 29:42Speaker 1: Nicholas Otamendi and Nico Paz, and at the 71st minute,
- 29:47Speaker 1: what does Lionel Messi do? He scores a goal, a penalty.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Final score, Argentina 3, Benin 0. And thank you very much,
- 29:56Speaker 1: Lionel Messi for lighting up the international stage with his talent.
- 29:59Speaker 1: I believe he's still playing domestic football for the MLS,
- 30:04Speaker 1: the Miami Football Club. Oh my goodness, I got the name.
- 30:07Speaker 1: OK, I can't do this to little messy. Enter Miami.
- 30:10Speaker 1: There you go. Thank you very much. The jersey in pink.
- 30:13Speaker 1: But anyway, we're gonna close the show with some enema
- 30:16Speaker 1: for you who will be in Singapore this Saturday. I'm
- 30:19Speaker 1: looking forward to being at marquee to really enjoy a
- 30:22Speaker 1: night of his music and also, I wonder how he
- 30:25Speaker 1: will use the marquee screen for his amazing graphics. That's it. Tomorrow,
- 30:30Speaker 1: Sonia's turn to go solo with you as I'm on
- 30:33Speaker 1: leave to prepare for one heck of a day.
- 30:35Speaker 1: as well. And then on Friday for day one of
- 30:39Speaker 1: the Grand Prix action here in Singapore, Sonia and I
- 30:41Speaker 1: back together to hype you up and over the weekend,
- 30:44Speaker 1: Sonia and I will both bring you all the action
- 30:46Speaker 1: separately and maybe say if we do bump into each
- 30:49Speaker 1: other at any of the F1 areas, we'll definitely do
- 30:52Speaker 1: a story for you at 987's Instagram and on TikTok.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Have a great Wednesday, and if you're going down to
- 30:58Speaker 1: Resorts World Sentosa later on for the VCAP event, I'll
- 31:02Speaker 1: see you there. Enjoy.
