- 0:00All right, we got Sebastian Williams
- 0:01Adams. So with that, we'll just open it
- 0:02up to questions. Start with Fergie's
- 0:06talked about y'all got to play
- 0:07desperately like you did the other
- 0:09night. Yes. Against against against
- 0:10Oklahoma, you know, is that kind of the
- 0:12message you guys among you guys in the
- 0:14locker room?
- 0:15>> I mean, most definitely. Um I think we
- 0:18know we're at our best when we're
- 0:19playing desperate. Um and to be honest,
- 0:22SEC is not somewhere where you can just
- 0:24show up every day and just expect to win
- 0:26the game even if you are favored. So,
- 0:29um, I mean, that has kind of been our
- 0:31mindset and we've kind of established
- 0:33that for the rest of the season. We're
- 0:35playing desperate. We're playing, uh,
- 0:37for our tournament hopes, which we know
- 0:39we have to. So, that's been our our main
- 0:41focus.
- 0:44>> I know SP talked about you kept the
- 0:46energy in practice even during that
- 0:48losing streak. didn't lose your
- 0:50confidence, but just how how nice was it
- 0:52to kind of feel a victory again and and
- 0:55maybe have that weight lifted off your
- 0:57shoulders of a of a losing streak that
- 0:58lasted a couple weeks?
- 0:59>> Yeah, I know. Um I mean it was
- 1:01definitely relieving um just because you
- 1:04know it it's hard to keep having this
- 1:07energy, keep having um the same
- 1:09mentality um you know keep bringing uh
- 1:13joy to practice um just because you know
- 1:16you are going through rough starts of
- 1:17your season. you are getting so close.
- 1:20Um Oh, my fault for not supposed to use
- 1:22that C word, but um we're getting uh
- 1:25right there. And you know, um it's not
- 1:28happening, but
- 1:30um you know, I say finally getting that
- 1:32win just it kind of um took a little it
- 1:36kind of lightened our shoulders a little
- 1:37bit, but you know, we're still hungry.
- 1:39We're still desperate. We still know um
- 1:41we got to play our way our way into the
- 1:43tournament, and that's kind of our main
- 1:44goal, right? I mean, that's our only
- 1:46goal right now.
- 1:49>> It felt like defensively against
- 1:50Kentucky, you guys were communicating
- 1:53better. Did you Did you feel kind of
- 1:54there was a difference, especially
- 1:56compared to the state game?
- 1:57>> Um, yeah, most definitely. Um, I think
- 2:00obviously we had watched the state game
- 2:01um individually and as a team has saw
- 2:04multiple times where um not even just
- 2:07Josh Hubard, but even some of the other
- 2:09guards, our guards would get nailed on
- 2:11screens and the bigs weren't at the
- 2:12level high enough. And even if we were,
- 2:14we weren't communicating with the
- 2:15guards. So the guards felt like they
- 2:17still had to pursue. Um and then that
- 2:20caused having two on the ball, wide open
- 2:22person, um and just numerous defensive
- 2:24lapses. So going to Kentucky, especially
- 2:27knowing our defense, uh was going to
- 2:30require a lot of switching. Um we knew
- 2:33we had to communicate better. And
- 2:35obviously that was a main focal point
- 2:36that um those two practices following
- 2:38Mississippi State. Uh I mean, everybody
- 2:41was just kind of just talking talking. I
- 2:43mean, even if we were wrong, we were
- 2:45like, "At least we know what you're
- 2:47trying to do, so now we know the
- 2:48intentions and everybody else can read
- 2:50and react based off of you."
- 2:53>> Jeff,
- 2:55>> what's the challenge that comes with
- 2:56playing a Saturday night game and then
- 2:59playing on Tuesday on the road, travel
- 3:00day, kind of a condensed preparation?
- 3:02>> Um, I mean, you know, you're still
- 3:05obviously you're trying to recover from
- 3:07the Saturday game. Um, especially
- 3:08because it was a bit of a later game. um
- 3:11you know, you're trying to recover, but
- 3:13you're also trying to make sure you get
- 3:15the scout in because your Tuesday
- 3:17important is just as important as your
- 3:18Saturday night opponent was. Um so just
- 3:22kind of balancing that and then of
- 3:23course you know we'll travel out today
- 3:25after practice. Um, you know, it's just
- 3:27a lot of, um, you know, you got to
- 3:30really be focused on making sure your
- 3:32body's right, making sure, um, if you
- 3:35are aching, you're getting in with Clark
- 3:36after practice on Sunday or before
- 3:39practice on Sunday just to kind of try
- 3:41to um, get right in our I mean, our
- 3:44support staff is amazing. So, Clark,
- 3:46Christ, Emily. Um, just to name the top
- 3:50three on top of my head, but they make
- 3:52sure we are getting enough nutrients to
- 3:55make sure uh like we had a lift
- 3:57yesterday, but our lift was all recovery
- 3:59based. Um, and then Clark obviously
- 4:02being there when we need him. Um, at
- 4:04least uh for, you know, if you hot tub,
- 4:07cold tub, norm, things like that. That's
- 4:09kind of just the main focus, getting
- 4:10your bodies right. And then obviously
- 4:12our coaches will come prepared with the
- 4:13scout. um like we'll have film before
- 4:15every practice like we always do and you
- 4:17know we'll go about um practicing
- 4:19preparing for Oklahoma.
- 4:22>> The Kentucky game feel weird for y'all
- 4:24the misses y'all had at the rim you know
- 4:27especially compared to what y usually do
- 4:28and how do you how do you kind of kind
- 4:30of move on from that because that was
- 4:32that was a key part of the game?
- 4:33>> Yeah. Um I mean obviously it definitely
- 4:36did feel weird. Um you know some of the
- 4:38makes we all expect to make um weren't
- 4:42falling. Um but knowing uh all those
- 4:47half court makes or half court misses.
- 4:50Um usually our half court makes we kind
- 4:52of you got to still have confidence in
- 4:53yourself and that you're going to make
- 4:54it and our team um definitely still
- 4:57does. Um, but you know, we all talked
- 4:59about a lot of our open like I mean kind
- 5:04of just wide open like transition
- 5:07um plays where the ball got knocked out
- 5:08of our hands when OA strim me like we
- 5:10all agreed those were unacceptable. Um
- 5:13and you know that if we are serious
- 5:16about making the tournament that that
- 5:17cannot happen again um and then some
- 5:20cases we did get lucky. um because
- 5:24we didn't convert on those layups, but
- 5:26you know, we'll definitely make sure to
- 5:29uh say we're obviously locked back in,
- 5:31but you know, felt really focused on
- 5:33finishing around the rim, taking our
- 5:35time. Um a lot some of it was just more
- 5:37we rushed it. We we let their
- 5:40physicality bother us a little bit, but
- 5:41you know, I was but we just got to be
- 5:44better at that. I mean, that's answer to
- 5:47be fully honest.
- 5:52SP was in here earlier talking about how
- 5:54when Elijah is aggressive on offense,
- 5:57how much that changes for y'all. What do
- 5:58you see out of him? Obviously has the
- 5:59big play to win it. But, you know, that
- 6:01game as a whole from him.
- 6:02>> Yeah.
- 6:02>> Look different on the offensive.
- 6:04>> Yeah. No, Ephere um Ephere is definitely
- 6:07when he plays that aggressive motor,
- 6:09that motor we saw against Kentucky, I
- 6:12mean, he is genuinely one of the most I
- 6:15would say most terrifying people to play
- 6:16against. um just because I was seeing
- 6:19that in the summer a lot of the times um
- 6:22he would catch that ball and I mean he's
- 6:24a freak athlete so every time he goes up
- 6:26in the air I mean I really don't think
- 6:28anybody's going to jump with him and if
- 6:30they do I think it's going to be a foul
- 6:31just cuz Elijah has the ability to put
- 6:34people on posters as we've seen. Um but
- 6:37no Elijah when he plays that that
- 6:39confident pace I mean it's really really
- 6:42amazing to see. Um really inspiring to
- 6:45see. I think it gets everybody going
- 6:47just because um you know kind of gives a
- 6:50spark gives a spark off the bench. Um
- 6:53and I say Elijah just makes a lot of
- 6:55winning plays so you know it contributes
- 6:57to winning.
