Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / ITB: What's The Situation Surrounding Eagles DC Vic Fangio?
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's up, everybody. It's Jeff
- 0:15Speaker 1: Mosher and Adam Kaplan. And just when you thought it
- 0:18Speaker 1: was safe to be happy, or you know, maybe you're
- 0:20Speaker 1: not happy, but at least you knew that Eagles had
- 0:22Speaker 1: a new offensive coordinator and you could start thinking about
- 0:25Speaker 1: the offense Adam.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Just when you thought it was safe.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Then my colleague Jimmy Kemski comes out with a report
- 0:31Speaker 1: on Sunday, something that we do a little bit about,
- 0:34Speaker 1: but Jimmy really put a great amount of detail into
- 0:37Speaker 1: it that Vic Fangio considering retirement and that the Eagles
- 0:41Speaker 1: had spoken to both Jim Schwartz and another oh, Jonathan
- 0:46Speaker 1: Gannon about the job. And you know, it's a little
- 0:49Speaker 1: bit in limbo now, is according to Jimmy's story, and
- 0:52Speaker 1: we'll talk about him more, you know, like he said,
- 0:54Speaker 1: all right, but no one will really confirm that he's
- 0:57Speaker 1: definitely going to be the defensive coordinator this year, at
- 1:01Speaker 1: least nobody was able to confirm that to Jimmy from
- 1:03Speaker 1: the team. So that's pretty interesting here, and that would
- 1:06Speaker 1: leave the Eagles in a pretty tough predicament if he
- 1:09Speaker 1: decides at the last second to just hang it up.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I mean it, it's funny. I guess I was at
- 1:18Speaker 3: the Seener Bowl last week, but I guess this was
- 1:22Speaker 3: the big Brumer. This is what we kind of learned.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I guess Saturday or something that the big rumor was
- 1:28Speaker 3: that Fanshom might retire. But I'm thinking, wait a minute.
- 1:33Speaker 3: The time to do this, you almost always coaching retirements
- 1:37Speaker 3: head coach coordinator happened within three to five days after
- 1:41Speaker 3: a team season is done. This case obviously after the
- 1:43Speaker 3: Niners game. And the big reason is you don't want
- 1:46Speaker 3: to hold up your coaches so they can get work
- 1:48Speaker 3: right way. It's been explaining to me for years, especially
- 1:50Speaker 3: this time. And then Jimmy's story came out on Sunday.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I was like, I just I mean, there the couple
- 2:00Speaker 3: guys I spoke with, don't I don't know even if
- 2:03Speaker 3: the Eagles coaches were there or not. Senior Bawl, I
- 2:05Speaker 3: have no idea.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It doesn't Yeah it wasn't wasn't Clint Hurt there or.
- 2:10Speaker 3: He was coaching? Yeah he was coaching oney, Yeah, yeah, right,
- 2:13Speaker 3: he was actually coaching one of the sides. But I
- 2:16Speaker 3: know a lot of teams don't send their coaches. Now
- 2:17Speaker 3: it's like in vogue. Yeah, where does not you know,
- 2:20Speaker 3: we're whatever. A lot of teams do that now. It's
- 2:23Speaker 3: kind of weird what it was unheard of like ten
- 2:25Speaker 3: years ago. But anyway, Yeah, the big rum gonna come
- 2:27Speaker 3: out was Vic was contemplating retirement and then Jimmy story
- 2:33Speaker 3: says what he had to be talked out of.
- 2:35Speaker 1: It or they Jimmy story says that they have convinced
- 2:39Speaker 1: him to coach again. However, he was not able to
- 2:44Speaker 1: get confirmation that you can officially say he.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Will definitely be the defensive coordinator going forward.
- 2:50Speaker 1: So it seems a little look, if you're a handicap
- 2:54Speaker 1: it based on Jimmy story, you would think eighty fulfills
- 2:57Speaker 1: the last year of his contract, but you never know.
- 3:00Speaker 1: You leave the door open to something crazy happening and
- 3:03Speaker 1: it doesn't, and I'd be, I guess at this point
- 3:05Speaker 1: surprised if he coached beyond twenty twenty six, this would
- 3:10Speaker 1: clearly be his last year.
- 3:11Speaker 3: All right, So this is the way coordinator contracts go.
- 3:13Speaker 3: They're either two years if you don't have leverage. If
- 3:16Speaker 3: you're first time coordinator with no leverage, you get two years.
- 3:18Speaker 3: If you're a tenured guy, you get three years. A
- 3:22Speaker 3: positional coaches get what are called two years with a rollover. Right.
- 3:27Speaker 3: There are rare instances where let's say a coach has
- 3:30Speaker 3: an offset he was fired from another team, and he
- 3:33Speaker 3: comes in the other clubs paying the finaliy of his contract,
- 3:37Speaker 3: or maybe if he has two years left, they pay
- 3:39Speaker 3: one the new team paids. They work it out, right,
- 3:43Speaker 3: But position coaches almost always get just two years with
- 3:45Speaker 3: a rollover, which is called the option year, and the
- 3:48Speaker 3: tenure coordinators almost always get three unless unless there's it's tenuous,
- 3:54Speaker 3: you know, the coach staff might be fired. You know,
- 3:57Speaker 3: when ownership knows coaches kind of know wink wink or
- 4:01Speaker 3: not nod you guys better win the season. You're gonna
- 4:02Speaker 3: be out without saying it. So Vic almost certainly got
- 4:05Speaker 3: three years. I didn't. I mean, I bet the house
- 4:07Speaker 3: that he did. That's just the way it is, you know.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I do wonder though, with Sean Manion, Bob, we're going
- 4:12Speaker 3: to talk about him also in this show. He's he's
- 4:16Speaker 3: getting at least two, if not three, So I I yeah,
- 4:20Speaker 3: I wonder. I wonder.
- 4:21Speaker 1: If you're an agent, you're right, you have no idea.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You're his agent.
- 4:26Speaker 1: You push for three anyway, but you really, you really
- 4:29Speaker 1: would love three because you know that there's a chance
- 4:32Speaker 1: that it's this thing backfires and it might not just
- 4:35Speaker 1: be him. Like if the Eagles have a rash of injuries,
- 4:38Speaker 1: let's say they're terrible defensively, who whatever, if they finished
- 4:41Speaker 1: six and eleven, everybody gets fired and then you're out
- 4:44Speaker 1: of a job. You know that, And you just left
- 4:46Speaker 1: your job to take this job. So you want that
- 4:47Speaker 1: extra year of money for it's almost like a tax.
- 4:51Speaker 1: You know, I don't believe in your future, so I
- 4:54Speaker 1: want that one extra year.
- 4:56Speaker 2: We've seen this with front office people too.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Yeah, Joe Douglas got without looking up, was it six
- 5:01Speaker 3: or seven years? Because he Jimmy sex and his agent
- 5:03Speaker 3: then I think was Jimmy Sexon who did the deal?
- 5:06Speaker 3: You get? And when you have that jet situation you
- 5:09Speaker 3: get five is not enough? Yeah, you're right, sounds absurd.
- 5:14Speaker 3: But a couple of things to Jimmy's story, just on
- 5:18Speaker 3: Gannon to clarify it. Uh, he's the he's the decordinator
- 5:22Speaker 3: for the packers, so they obviously would have had talked
- 5:25Speaker 3: to him before he got that job. He can't talk
- 5:28Speaker 3: to him once he gets to the job and Jim
- 5:31Speaker 3: Schwartz now the question. Obviously he didn't get the head
- 5:35Speaker 3: coach a job, and he was definitely not happy about it. Now.
- 5:40Speaker 3: You know, I thought about Schwartz earlier this week with
- 5:42Speaker 3: our patron members. If Vic decided he wasn't going to
- 5:45Speaker 3: if he just surprised everybody, and at this date, I'm
- 5:49Speaker 3: sticking with it. I'm not doing it. Schwartz is just
- 5:53Speaker 3: completely different. I understand they won a Super Bowl with him.
- 5:55Speaker 3: I get the nine years ago and our reporting then.
- 5:59Speaker 3: I know there were report the report. There are a
- 6:01Speaker 3: couple of reports out there that he was not going
- 6:03Speaker 3: to be retained, which are completely false by a couple
- 6:06Speaker 3: of club sources that that's nonsense. He absolute would have
- 6:08Speaker 3: been welcomed back back then if you juggle, it was canned.
- 6:12Speaker 3: But and Jim took the it took some time off,
- 6:14Speaker 3: then went to the Titans.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Then yeah.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, if I remember at the time, I
- 6:19Speaker 1: think Jim was looking to to just kind of get
- 6:22Speaker 1: out somewhere, and I know he had They said he
- 6:25Speaker 1: had some medical stuff maybe to take care of. He
- 6:27Speaker 1: had like something with his eyes. It turned out to
- 6:30Speaker 1: be not a very serious medical condition, but he wound
- 6:33Speaker 1: up being I think in some kind of assistant with
- 6:36Speaker 1: the Titans, or it was up in the booth for
- 6:37Speaker 1: a little bit. But you know, to my as, I
- 6:40Speaker 1: think we both understood it, he was just trying to
- 6:42Speaker 1: look for a fresh start. Things were not great with
- 6:44Speaker 1: the Eagles at that point.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I don't remember five, I don't remember. I just the
- 6:47Speaker 3: only thing I because we were like, this can't be
- 6:50Speaker 3: true that they would have He's just too good of
- 6:51Speaker 3: a coordinator, and it was. It was not true that
- 6:53Speaker 3: they were they would have welcomed back. But yeah, he
- 6:55Speaker 3: wanted some time offense, right, absolutely, right, so fast forwarding.
- 7:00Speaker 3: It's just my sense though, the way these things go,
- 7:05Speaker 3: I'm sure that they knew this after the Niners game,
- 7:07Speaker 3: within days. There's just no way that they didn't know this,
- 7:10Speaker 3: because you wouldn't they. They may have told how he
- 7:13Speaker 3: might have told him, and Nick might have told him, hey, listen,
- 7:16Speaker 3: get to you know what. Listen, I hear you on this.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Please take some time, don't you know. Listen, we want
- 7:20Speaker 3: you back. Whatever you need, We're going to take care
- 7:23Speaker 3: of it. Vic Fanger doesn't seem like a guy who's
- 7:26Speaker 3: going to be holding out for money. Know some coaches.
- 7:29Speaker 3: This is actually true. This has actually happened before where
- 7:31Speaker 3: they I'm just making clear, I'm not saying Vic would
- 7:33Speaker 3: ever do this right where they kind of him and
- 7:36Speaker 3: Hall and they want more money, so they act like
- 7:38Speaker 3: they want to retire, you know, when they really didn't. Yep,
- 7:42Speaker 3: But this is there's no way Vic would do this. No.
- 7:45Speaker 1: In fact, I was among a pack of reporters on
- 7:49Speaker 1: clean out day that was around n Kobe Dean when
- 7:51Speaker 1: he was being asked about Vic, and Nikobe said something
- 7:55Speaker 1: to the effect that Vic has thought about it before,
- 7:58Speaker 1: He's talked about it with his players, and he always
- 8:00Speaker 1: has told Hen to paraphrase na Kobe, he said that
- 8:05Speaker 1: Vic has said something like when it starts to become
- 8:08Speaker 1: not fun for me anymore, then I'm really just going
- 8:12Speaker 1: to walk away. It's not gonna be about money, It's
- 8:14Speaker 1: not gonna it's just gonna be about whether or I
- 8:15Speaker 1: still have the competitive drive to continue.
- 8:18Speaker 2: To do this.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So I think that the one area you'd be concerned,
- 8:21Speaker 1: like you're never concerned about if he's coaching, he's coaching,
- 8:24Speaker 1: his knowledge is there fine, But like with anybody, if
- 8:28Speaker 1: you feel like they have one foot out the door.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Or their heart's not in it. That's a little tough.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Like I would listen if I were in the organization,
- 8:36Speaker 2: I don't care. I'm trying.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I'm doing everything I can. And now that I know
- 8:40Speaker 1: what I know, I'm either looking at Joe Casper now
- 8:44Speaker 1: as the successor or he would be the house be right.
- 8:47Speaker 1: But but I still would have a little bit of
- 8:50Speaker 1: I guess sheepusness, especially coming off how last year ended,
- 8:53Speaker 1: not just for the defense but for the team and
- 8:55Speaker 1: this big year coming up, that my defensive coordinator has
- 8:58Speaker 1: kind of one foot out the door and and where
- 9:00Speaker 1: his mind is that you know, but I but you
- 9:02Speaker 1: trust that Vic will be locked in if he's the.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Guy this is well, if he's come back, he's locked in.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I don't think.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I just feel like mentally locked in at him, like, yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 1: really are not working it out?
- 9:12Speaker 2: You know? Do I really want to do this?
- 9:13Speaker 3: I had a joke with someone over the week and
- 9:15Speaker 3: I said, he may look like he's eighty, but he's
- 9:17Speaker 3: only sixty seven. In fact, Bill Belichick's what seventy three,
- 9:21Speaker 3: seventy four years old?
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Pete Carroll was in his seventies last year, right.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right, you're right, and listen. Vic has been
- 9:29Speaker 3: coaching forty two years pro coaching. Excuse me, pro coaching. Okay.
- 9:32Speaker 3: He started his coaching career earlier than that, in the
- 9:35Speaker 3: early eighties, and he was with the Stars in the
- 9:38Speaker 3: Philadelphia Slash Baltimore Stars eighty four and eighty five in
- 9:41Speaker 3: his early to mid twenties. Pretty amazing. Yeah, you get
- 9:44Speaker 3: burnout sometime, but it's just it's extremely rare, not impossible
- 9:51Speaker 3: for someone to walk away right now, and God wants
- 9:53Speaker 3: to walk away, walks away. But what you want to
- 9:55Speaker 3: do is you want to do right by your assistance.
- 9:56Speaker 3: It's the way he's explain to me various times. It's
- 9:59Speaker 3: just it would really surprise me if it's now that
- 10:03Speaker 3: he he Jimmy's story. Let let's whoever he spoke with, said, Hey,
- 10:07Speaker 3: he's leaning towards coming back, but then Jimmy called for
- 10:10Speaker 3: a confirmation from the club. They wouldn't confirm it. Yeah,
- 10:13Speaker 3: that's not like.
- 10:14Speaker 2: That's what I mean by the one foot out the door.
- 10:16Speaker 2: It's like you just there. I'm good.
- 10:19Speaker 3: You know. I wanted what he said, because again, the
- 10:21Speaker 3: coaches have to know. I know that there are ten
- 10:25Speaker 3: head coaching changes Okay, a lot of them. They'll give
- 10:29Speaker 3: you another little dirty secret in coaching. This is one
- 10:32Speaker 3: of my five I must have heard this one hundred
- 10:34Speaker 3: times in the last like three or four weeks. Hey,
- 10:36Speaker 3: if I get this job, I want you with me.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Kind of there, well a lot of them. It may
- 10:40Speaker 3: not be out that these clubs have filled these positions,
- 10:43Speaker 3: but they're already Wink, wink, not nod, You're going to
- 10:45Speaker 3: be coaching with me. I want you on my staff.
- 10:48Speaker 3: That's what makes it tough moving forward here with the
- 10:50Speaker 3: Eagles assistants and VIC is not if VIC just changes
- 10:55Speaker 3: course and says I'm done. Sorry, I just can't do it.
- 10:57Speaker 3: I don't want to do it on your some of
- 10:58Speaker 3: the points you made. I mean, is it really fair,
- 11:00Speaker 3: because hey, if they want to run Fangio scheme, that's
- 11:04Speaker 3: one thing that you could keep these guys. If not
- 11:06Speaker 3: Schwartzey doesn't run this, he runs a forty three completely different.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I mean, VIC not to say he created Cooper Degene,
- 11:13Speaker 3: but Cooper Gene became a superstar with VIC and Christian Parker.
- 11:18Speaker 3: It's before we move on, I just want people to
- 11:21Speaker 3: understand this is a very interesting situation with the Eagles,
- 11:24Speaker 3: and it is from a timing standpoint, almost unprecedent. I'm
- 11:28Speaker 3: not saying it's never happened. And again, most likely it's
- 11:32Speaker 3: Howie and Nick knew this within days after the Niners game.
- 11:37Speaker 3: And as Nukobe knows, and it's not secret, Vic is
- 11:41Speaker 3: considered retirement before. And also it's no different than Lane Johnson,
- 11:44Speaker 3: an older player, okay, in their mid to lay thirties
- 11:49Speaker 3: going year to year. Guys like Vic in their late
- 11:51Speaker 3: sixties are going year to year on their on their
- 11:54Speaker 3: mind frame. Vic lettig he said something about his girlfriend
- 11:58Speaker 3: and one of the press conferences, remember that, Yeah, he
- 12:02Speaker 3: dropped something about his new girlfriend or something. I don't know,
- 12:06Speaker 3: And then I looked it up to see what he
- 12:07Speaker 3: was talking about, and yeah, there's ultra information. How did
- 12:10Speaker 3: these people find the stuff out?
- 12:12Speaker 2: That was really funny.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Yeah, but anyway, look, it's not a Belichian since I
- 12:17Speaker 1: don't I don't know that to be a fan were
- 12:20Speaker 1: Bill's nearly fifty years older than his girlfriend.
- 12:23Speaker 3: But anyway, Yeah, so just to move this along here,
- 12:26Speaker 3: Joe Caspers, we were we've noted many times, would be
- 12:29Speaker 3: the in house candidate. Richard Parker's gone anyway, Joe is
- 12:32Speaker 3: a is a VIC protege. I would love to know.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I know he brought him to Miami, but did he
- 12:39Speaker 3: meet that? Did they meet when Vic was a consultant?
- 12:41Speaker 3: Is that when they met? I don't know that.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I think said that, yeah, because remember when Vic was
- 12:45Speaker 1: hanging around hanging around the eagle.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Yeah, he got through everybody.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, and then he took Casper with it because
- 12:51Speaker 1: they were not tied beforehand.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 3: That's why I was asking, because I was like, how
- 12:54Speaker 3: the hell? This is an interesting one. I always find
- 12:57Speaker 3: it fascinating when coaches have mentors in the game. You know, well,
- 13:04Speaker 3: how do they meet them? Like where do they meet them?
- 13:06Speaker 3: Senor Bawl Combine? Where they introduced? You know, how do
- 13:09Speaker 3: they meet? It's it's fascinating that one with Joe Casper.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Who's that? But talk about a high riser. Yeah, by the.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Way, that drill, you know that drill that he's got,
- 13:19Speaker 1: the tackling drill of the safeties where he basically lets
- 13:22Speaker 1: them tackle him onto a mat and.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and he figures out a way to land the
- 13:29Speaker 2: right way so that he doesn't get hurt. Yeah. Yeah. E. J.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Smith once put a.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Video of it on Okay cool on Twitter, you.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Can find it. It's it's kind of funny, it's comical.
- 13:40Speaker 1: It reminded me. I even quote tweeted instead. It reminded
- 13:43Speaker 1: me of when Jan Castillo started headbutting his linebackers when
- 13:46Speaker 1: he was defensive coordinator and then someone someone had a
- 13:49Speaker 1: picture They responded of Wan headbudding like jamar Cheney, I
- 13:54Speaker 1: don't know somebody and like he had the actual picture.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I think it was from the Philadelphia Inquire. That's how you.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Knew that this thing, like go get off the rails
- 14:04Speaker 1: quickly with wand when he was bare headed headbutting his
- 14:07Speaker 1: own linebackers were wearing helmets.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Now, hey, listen, if for some reason Fandrew does retire,
- 14:14Speaker 3: we'll do it like we did with Sean Mannion the
- 14:15Speaker 3: day before he got the job. We did the story
- 14:18Speaker 3: on him, you know, a show on him. Yeah, the
- 14:20Speaker 3: story we'll do shows on their coordinator. Canis I just
- 14:23Speaker 3: I find it hard to believe he would walk away now,
- 14:27Speaker 3: but yeah, it's it's uh.
- 14:29Speaker 1: That would be such a huge loss, by the way,
- 14:31Speaker 1: I mean, Casper may be great, but just like with Manion,
- 14:34Speaker 1: you just don't know.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I mean, you just don't.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Know, it would just be it would be a really
- 14:40Speaker 1: I mean, they're trying to like get some good vibes
- 14:43Speaker 1: going into this year after the way last year ended.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I can't think of anything that would dampen the vibes
- 14:47Speaker 1: around the team and just the overall even inside the building.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm not talking about fan vibes.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I'm just talking about like trying to make sure that
- 14:54Speaker 1: you're back to being a super Bowl contender losing Vic Fangio,
- 14:59Speaker 1: he may be the most valaluable coach. I don't I
- 15:01Speaker 1: don't even think it's maybe he's the most valuable coach
- 15:03Speaker 1: they have in that building.
- 15:04Speaker 2: I mean he's that oh oh and it's yeah some time. Yeah.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I don't want people to think I'm slighting Sirianni, but
- 15:10Speaker 1: you know, Vix the guy, it's just the way it is.
- 15:15Speaker 3: He's the Yogi. I mean he is. And I've often
- 15:19Speaker 3: said Jim Johnson was my favorite coach to cover here,
- 15:22Speaker 3: but Vic Fangio is unbelievaby. I I'd never met him before,
- 15:26Speaker 3: so I've just been fascinated by his bluntness and is honest.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Like his honesty, so we learn a lot. The fans
- 15:32Speaker 3: love it because he's given away answers he's giving, he's
- 15:34Speaker 3: giving right information. I'm sure they probably I never care,
- 15:37Speaker 3: would would rather not be out there, yep, with injuries
- 15:40Speaker 3: and schematics sometimes. But anyway, we'll see what happens. But
- 15:45Speaker 3: I'll know.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Just to answer that, I mean, I know, we know
- 15:48Speaker 1: what we've been told about Joe Casper and how how
- 15:50Speaker 1: great of a coach they expect him to be. I
- 15:52Speaker 1: don't know if the Eagles could walk into twenty twenty
- 15:55Speaker 1: six after how last year ended and have two guys
- 15:58Speaker 1: as their coordinators were right.
- 16:00Speaker 3: What I wanted to get to is Nick Rollis, who
- 16:02Speaker 3: was the Cardinals decordinator on Urgannon last check. He was
- 16:06Speaker 3: still out there. Obviously he can coaching Fangio. He would
- 16:09Speaker 3: be one who was here previously. So yeah, it's not
- 16:12Speaker 3: like they couldn't find anyone to run Fangio if the
- 16:15Speaker 3: real mccoyle retires. But it's just, uh, we were gonna
- 16:19Speaker 3: It's so funny because when Jeff and I were playing
- 16:20Speaker 3: the show, we were Sunday, We're like, okay, where we
- 16:25Speaker 3: want to go here? Like we were obviously going to
- 16:27Speaker 3: talk about this. But I like going inside the coaching
- 16:30Speaker 3: stuff because it's interesting how guys find out the senior ball.
- 16:34Speaker 3: It's called the Annual Coaches Convention unofficially, and the reason
- 16:38Speaker 3: why gms don't like going is because coaching agents and
- 16:42Speaker 3: coaches go up to the gms and ask them, hey, man,
- 16:45Speaker 3: do you this they won't be bothered.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 16:47Speaker 3: That's the truth. There's a lot of I know gms,
- 16:49Speaker 3: I've talked you don't want to go. Personnel directors more
- 16:52Speaker 3: off than not have to go, but they'd rather not go.
- 16:54Speaker 3: A whether your mobile. But the big thing is they
- 16:58Speaker 3: just don't want to be bothered by it. So it's
- 17:03Speaker 3: it's going to be interesting to see what happens. But
- 17:04Speaker 3: on your point, Mannion is a fast we've heard more
- 17:07Speaker 3: stuff on Manion. Not bad. It's just about potentially what
- 17:10Speaker 3: it'll look like, because this is what people really want
- 17:12Speaker 3: to know. We'll get that in a minute, yep. But
- 17:15Speaker 3: we'll see what happens. Again, it's just very rare that
- 17:18Speaker 3: a guy a coordinator will retire. Yes, there's some mitigating
- 17:22Speaker 3: service circumstances. Basically it sounds like he told it. I
- 17:26Speaker 3: would guess don't know this or fact, but I guess
- 17:28Speaker 3: it was weeks ago. Had to be very you would
- 17:30Speaker 3: think within a week after they lost to the Niners.
- 17:34Speaker 3: As I set this up earlier, maybe they told him
- 17:36Speaker 3: to think about it, don't you know. Just take a
- 17:38Speaker 3: deep breath here. Coaches are fried by the end of
- 17:42Speaker 3: the season, where players are beat up physically mentally, they're
- 17:44Speaker 3: totally fried. It's just the way it is. They need
- 17:47Speaker 3: to get away. Let's see what happens.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher and there's nothing more important to
- 17:52Speaker 1: me than peace of mind, especially when it comes to
- 17:55Speaker 1: the safety and security of my family. And that's why
- 17:58Speaker 1: my mind is at ease ever since I got the
- 18:00Speaker 1: simply Safe home security system in my house, because simply

- 18:14Speaker 1: AI powered cameras outside the home to spot threats and
- 18:17Speaker 1: get an instant response from live agents. They talk to
- 18:20Speaker 1: them through the camera and let them know they're being
- 18:22Speaker 1: watched and police are on the way. There's no better
- 18:25Speaker 1: feeling when you're away or sleeping or just busy than
- 18:28Speaker 1: knowing that simply Safe is protecting your home. Get the
- 18:31Speaker 1: system that's been named best home security Systems by US

- 21:04Speaker 1: But you are right, though, that this was a discussion
- 21:07Speaker 1: you know before now, because obviously when by Nikobe's answer,
- 21:11Speaker 1: you could already tell that Vic has been talking or
- 21:14Speaker 1: feeling a certain way about it and telling his players
- 21:17Speaker 1: he'll retire when he just doesn't, you know, when it's
- 21:20Speaker 1: not fun for him anymore, when it's not motivating.
- 21:22Speaker 3: I didn't realize that that's good that you said that.
- 21:23Speaker 3: I didn't even know that good.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it was an interesting conversation. Okay, So all right,
- 21:29Speaker 1: let's get into Manion. Really interesting. I don't know if
- 21:31Speaker 1: you've seen it. There is a it was a good
- 21:33Speaker 1: video circulating of it. Must have been maybe his introductory
- 21:37Speaker 1: press conference as a quarterbacks coach. You know how like
- 21:40Speaker 1: every team makes their patient available and he had, you know,
- 21:45Speaker 1: it's like a five to eight minute video. He was explaining,
- 21:47Speaker 1: you know how he felt a lot like what we said.
- 21:50Speaker 1: All the coaches that he's played for, who are.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Considered great play callers. And he used a really interesting word.
- 21:55Speaker 1: He said that in his last few years of playing,
- 21:58Speaker 1: he was really already thinking of going into coaching, and
- 22:02Speaker 1: he was using his playing career to weaponize how he
- 22:05Speaker 1: be a coach and his way of getting into coaching,
- 22:08Speaker 1: which I interpreted it to mean like he was really studying.
- 22:12Speaker 2: He wasn't just playing quarterback.
- 22:13Speaker 1: He was really studying how these coaches that he was
- 22:16Speaker 1: playing for were using their schemes right and what they're
- 22:20Speaker 1: doing to eventually do the same when he became a coach.
- 22:25Speaker 1: And then there was also some video from when he
- 22:27Speaker 1: was the coach at the East West Shrine game a
- 22:30Speaker 1: couple of years ago and some people breaking down the offenses,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and it was what a lot of what we talked about.
- 22:36Speaker 1: The practice tape that was shown was under center wide
- 22:40Speaker 1: zone running good, you know levels concepts in the passing
- 22:45Speaker 1: game where you're getting your scheming people open. So it
- 22:48Speaker 1: was it's really like kind of the only only evidence
- 22:51Speaker 1: he might have of what he might bring.
- 22:54Speaker 2: To the Eagles as an offensive coordinator.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's it's his zone scheme. I mean, you
- 23:00Speaker 3: look at his entire career in Or West Coast offense.
- 23:02Speaker 3: It's it's now does he take most from McVeigh, which
- 23:08Speaker 3: most people think.
- 23:10Speaker 1: See, I always thought he'd I would think he'd take
- 23:11Speaker 1: more from the Floor just because that's where he.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Right. But here's the thing. The Floor does not use
- 23:18Speaker 3: a fullback like Shanahan, right, So that that's what.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Doesn't either McVeigh doesn't use one either.
- 23:24Speaker 3: No, no, that's my point. Now again, he started his
- 23:27Speaker 3: career with McVeigh, and you talk about his playing career,
- 23:31Speaker 3: but then what he does is the Floor doesn't The
- 23:34Speaker 3: Floor and Shanahan don't see it completely the same. We've
- 23:36Speaker 3: we've talked about this for many years. Yes, whether it's offensive,
- 23:40Speaker 3: defensive side of the football. The Disciples don't see this,
- 23:43Speaker 3: even if they're not from that, they're out of the
- 23:45Speaker 3: West Coast street. But they they may have coached or
- 23:49Speaker 3: they may have played under one guy. But then what
- 23:51Speaker 3: happens is on your point, playing for the floor, excuse me,
- 23:54Speaker 3: coaching for the floor. He might take he was McVeigh.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Oh see at one point, No, I'm playing coloc okay,
- 24:03Speaker 3: so he takes Sean stuff. But then they of course
- 24:04Speaker 3: work with Shanahan with Washington, you know, not we're talking
- 24:10Speaker 3: about my Matt Lafleur and McVeigh. It's just interesting. But yeah,
- 24:15Speaker 3: it But then see he's got Kevin O'Connell, which is
- 24:19Speaker 3: from the McVeagh tree.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Right, But yeah, and he's not he don't see.
- 24:22Speaker 1: So he played for O'Connell, and he played for Udinsky
- 24:26Speaker 1: as an offensive coordinator in what Seattle?
- 24:29Speaker 2: Right?
- 24:30Speaker 3: And he played with and Seattle.
- 24:33Speaker 1: No where where when he played for Yudinsky? Where was Ysky?
- 24:37Speaker 3: Was Minnesota?
- 24:38Speaker 1: Most likely Minnesota? Yeah, you're I'm sorry, I'm at Minnesota.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I think that that most of the coaches he's played
- 24:43Speaker 1: for are more McVeigh than Shanahan. I'm not yes, exactly right, Yeah,
- 24:48Speaker 1: so I agree with you. I'm not sure a fullback
- 24:51Speaker 1: is going to be a part of the offense. We'll
- 24:53Speaker 1: have to see.
- 24:54Speaker 3: But however, however, there's one quagmire here. Don't forget who
- 25:01Speaker 3: is oh c is Josh Gizzard? What tree does he
- 25:03Speaker 3: come from?
- 25:04Speaker 2: Gizzard also comes from the McVeigh tree, does he not?
- 25:06Speaker 3: Well?
- 25:07Speaker 1: No, here's Cohen and Liam Cohen came from the mc Yes.
- 25:11Speaker 3: But but if you look at Josh Gizzard's background.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Mm hmm I Mike McDaniel, Yeah, yes, that's why you that's.
- 25:22Speaker 3: The that's the ranch. I think this is great. I'm
- 25:26Speaker 3: just hoping that he even though he seems like to
- 25:27Speaker 3: be McVeigh guy from all the evidence, the fact that
- 25:32Speaker 3: they brought Grizzard in, who's also it's only like a
- 25:34Speaker 3: year or two older than this guy. Then Sean Mannion
- 25:37Speaker 3: m hm. I know it's West Coast, so that they
- 25:39Speaker 3: speak the same language. That helps. But I love that
- 25:42Speaker 3: he that Gizzard potentially because he was actually he was
- 25:46Speaker 3: in Miami before McDaniel got there and then McDaniel kept him.
- 25:49Speaker 3: But he's with McDaniel for a while, uh for I
- 25:54Speaker 3: guess what like two or two or three years, so
- 25:57Speaker 3: he's got McDaniel stuff there. So it's kind of cool
- 26:00Speaker 3: they could bring all these concepts in who knows. I mean,
- 26:02Speaker 3: it's it's as we've learned through this trek, through trying
- 26:07Speaker 3: to evaluate what how legitimate what we see in OTAs
- 26:10Speaker 3: and training camp is, particularly when we saw John Drey
- 26:14Speaker 3: Swift catch so many footballs and he didn't in the
- 26:16Speaker 3: regular season, so we could be fold We get that
- 26:19Speaker 3: we've all been fooled, but it just on the surface
- 26:22Speaker 3: what they could potentially bring in play action, by the way,
- 26:24Speaker 3: is big, big in Green Bay, big in in LA.
- 26:30Speaker 3: With McVeigh, you could you could bet that the house
- 26:33Speaker 3: is going to be now but and more under center. Now,
- 26:35Speaker 3: we don't do percentages on the show ever, there's no
- 26:37Speaker 3: way to know this, but it's all it's going to
- 26:40Speaker 3: be on the plate, like it has to be on
- 26:41Speaker 3: the plates.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it a offense.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I agree, right exactly undred percent. Now, now if we
- 26:50Speaker 3: get the Kellimore week two of twenty twenty four treatment,
- 26:53Speaker 3: when it starts to yeah, regress, looks like you have
- 26:59Speaker 3: to just you do what you have to do to win.
- 27:00Speaker 3: You start changing things because your quarterbacks not playing well.
- 27:02Speaker 3: I'm not seeing it so speak yep, but I'm just
- 27:06Speaker 3: I'm to the point, man, this could be so cool.
- 27:09Speaker 3: It could be so cool. And I'm gonna say this again, folks,
- 27:11Speaker 3: be very wary of the reporters. You're going to OTAs
- 27:15Speaker 3: and criticizing what it looks like they're installing a new offense. Okay, relax,
- 27:20Speaker 3: it's if it looks good. It's a miracle. It's a
- 27:23Speaker 3: truly time based offense. It could be really cool as hell.
- 27:28Speaker 3: We don't know what's gonna happen in the regular season. Hell,
- 27:30Speaker 3: we don't know what's gonna happen in training camp, what
- 27:31Speaker 3: it's gonna look like. Yep, we have a general idea
- 27:34Speaker 3: what conceptually this should look like. But just relax. If
- 27:37Speaker 3: there's stuff's out there that's negative. Again, hurts it hurts.
- 27:40Speaker 3: McAfee's still here. Uh, the wide receivers stout, the online coach,
- 27:47Speaker 3: this is gonna be different for him. Everybody. You're just
- 27:50Speaker 3: you're not running the Nick Syrian offense anymore. That's not happening.
- 27:54Speaker 1: There should be three major things we just talked to
- 27:56Speaker 1: under center, play action, pre snap motion, those three things,
- 28:00Speaker 1: And you're right. I think when you're installing a new
- 28:04Speaker 1: offense week one, you may not see all three. I mean,
- 28:07Speaker 1: it might have to be a little bit of an
- 28:09Speaker 1: acclamation process and it may.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Not be like that's their eighty.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I think you're great to say, let's not get into
- 28:14Speaker 1: percentages because I know right now people are looking at
- 28:18Speaker 1: the percentages of under center and the percentages of play
- 28:21Speaker 1: action used by Green Bay by la. Listen, you gotta
- 28:24Speaker 1: crawl before you walk. You can't just you got to
- 28:27Speaker 1: earn that identity before it is your identity.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Not only that, but right on that point you just made.
- 28:32Speaker 3: They also want to get through OgH and see the
- 28:34Speaker 3: absorption process of your quarterbacks. Right, Okay, are they getting it?
- 28:39Speaker 3: Are they feeling it? Are they understanding it? You have
- 28:41Speaker 3: to slow things down, right, you just you can't. You
- 28:43Speaker 3: can't skip steps. That's just but the whole thing could
- 28:47Speaker 3: be beautiful. What what was the other one that I?
- 28:50Speaker 4: Oh?
- 28:50Speaker 3: Yeah, oh this is now. This is important because up
- 28:53Speaker 3: until this past season, McVeigh was mister eleven personnel. Nobody
- 28:56Speaker 3: ran more eleven than than McVeigh, and then he shot
- 29:00Speaker 3: Cosell tout us on inside the tape. You're not going
- 29:02Speaker 3: to believe this. Of all coaches, Sean McVay ran more
- 29:06Speaker 3: thirteen personnel than any teams, like over six weeks now,
- 29:10Speaker 3: granted he had four. They drafted Terrence Ferguson. Higbee has
- 29:14Speaker 3: always been talented and hurt a lot, but it is
- 29:16Speaker 3: very talented. It's uh.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Parkinson came through, call me Parkinson.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Unbelieved what he started doing. What the hell did this
- 29:24Speaker 3: guy come from? No idea and the other kid the
- 29:26Speaker 3: last names Davis, I can't think maybe his first names Day,
- 29:28Speaker 3: I can't remember that guy guy, Yeah, I can't remember.
- 29:30Speaker 3: They were loaded a tenant, So that makes sense. And listen,
- 29:33Speaker 3: you coached by your personnel that you're given. If you
- 29:35Speaker 3: don't feel good about your third receiver, the only one
- 29:38Speaker 3: that fooled me. And you brought this up when Schottenheimer
- 29:42Speaker 3: re used Don David Moore as a third Do you
- 29:45Speaker 3: remember that, because because you you remember that, and I'm like,
- 29:48Speaker 3: he forced it. And by the way, he was right
- 29:51Speaker 3: because Russell Wilson went off until Pete Carrol micro managed Schottenheimer. Yep,
- 29:56Speaker 3: it was one of the all time mismanaged micro managing
- 29:59Speaker 3: I've ever seen. It's yeah, in twenty twenty. Well, look, I.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Mean, I think to your point the fact that he
- 30:05Speaker 1: had three tight ends and this will be interesting for
- 30:08Speaker 1: the Eagles to see how they remake their tight end group.
- 30:11Speaker 1: He had three tight ends that could catch the ball
- 30:13Speaker 1: and a couple of them can block pretty well. So
- 30:15Speaker 1: now you're able to dictate more offensively what you want
- 30:19Speaker 1: to do. You can put these tight ends on the field,
- 30:21Speaker 1: and if the defense responds in base, now you have
- 30:24Speaker 1: you can run because you got a lot of tight
- 30:25Speaker 1: ends on the field. And certainly the Rams ran the
- 30:28Speaker 1: ball really well with Kyram Williams. But then they can
- 30:30Speaker 1: also play action really well and use those tight ends
- 30:33Speaker 1: mismatched against base personnel.
- 30:35Speaker 2: That is how you dictate. I think that's where the
- 30:37Speaker 2: NFL is going anyway. You know, the defense is caught
- 30:39Speaker 2: up the end.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Now the offense is trying to figure out ways to
- 30:43Speaker 1: re establish matchups by almost going back to the old
- 30:46Speaker 1: way of doing it, which is get under center, put
- 30:49Speaker 1: more tight ends on the field who can this time
- 30:51Speaker 1: catch and block and then force the defense into some
- 30:54Speaker 1: guesswork about whether you're gonna run or you're gonna pass
- 30:57Speaker 1: out of that personnel. And that's that's the whole game.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Making the defense wonder what you're doing. The Eagles didn't
- 31:02Speaker 1: make anybody wonder what they were doing last year when
- 31:05Speaker 1: they were running or passing.
- 31:07Speaker 2: That's just the truth.
- 31:08Speaker 3: That's rough. I know, it's true. No, hell, it's incredible
- 31:11Speaker 3: in terms of what the SIN could look like. David
- 31:14Speaker 3: Allen was that tight end I was talking about It
- 31:15Speaker 3: was crazy, But the Kolbe Parkinson thing, it was basically
- 31:19Speaker 3: a Y tight end. Why means inline folks who don't know,
- 31:22Speaker 3: and and Higby plays the FN who plays the Y
- 31:25Speaker 3: for the Rams. Higby's really good. He was a big
- 31:27Speaker 3: time athlete Western Kentucky. And this is the time that
- 31:32Speaker 3: McVeigh when when when McVeigh had him early in his career,
- 31:35Speaker 3: they just other than when he when he scored three
- 31:38Speaker 3: touchdowns against the Eagles in the COVID year.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Yes he did, that's right, but he believed.
- 31:44Speaker 3: As one of the coaches for the Rams told me
- 31:46Speaker 3: many years ago, we just see Sean sees them as blockers,
- 31:49Speaker 3: not really past catchers, Like, but how do you do
- 31:52Speaker 3: that with Higby? And then he almost traded in Minnesota.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that just shows you how good an adaptable
- 31:57Speaker 2: McVeigh is.
- 31:58Speaker 3: So he's unreal, really really good.
- 32:01Speaker 2: All right.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Oh, last thing we should talk about, obviously, is that
- 32:04Speaker 1: they're and I think we discussed when on the Manyan
- 32:07Speaker 1: Emergency Pod.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Don't be surprised if Manyon is given.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Some leniency to bring some some of his own guys in.
- 32:15Speaker 1: I mean, if you're we talked about this when Vic
- 32:17Speaker 1: Fangio became your defensive coordinator. What the Eagles needed most
- 32:21Speaker 1: besides having Vic was somebody who then could trickle down
- 32:25Speaker 1: that message from Vic to the players, coaches who coached
- 32:28Speaker 1: with us uh with Vic, and how important that message
- 32:31Speaker 1: was because it was not being received well back when it.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Was DECI slash for Tricia.
- 32:36Speaker 1: So if Grizzard and if Manyon need to get their
- 32:40Speaker 1: messaging on how they want to do things offensively trickle
- 32:43Speaker 1: down well the players, it would behoove them to find
- 32:46Speaker 1: some coaches that that are like minded, which means there
- 32:49Speaker 1: could be replacements.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Yeah, oh, I would expect. There's almost certain to be
- 32:53Speaker 3: a change on offense because the staff because they're they're
- 32:56Speaker 3: You've got a new offenseve coordinator, right, Kellen Moore brought
- 33:00Speaker 3: and his guy, Doug Nussmer. Now what we don't know.
- 33:01Speaker 3: We don't know. This is Man's only coach two years,
- 33:05Speaker 3: so I don't know who his guys are. We'll find
- 33:07Speaker 3: out this week, I'm sure. But it's uh, it's interesting
- 33:11Speaker 3: because again it's like, okay, I'm sure during his time
- 33:17Speaker 3: with the Rams, the Vikings, the Seahawks, and then of
- 33:21Speaker 3: course in coaching with the Packers is two years, he
- 33:25Speaker 3: met people along the way, and that's what you do.
- 33:27Speaker 3: You bring in guys that you know along the way
- 33:29Speaker 3: to trust. Now, they badly badly needed what's called an
- 33:33Speaker 3: soa senior offensive assistant, and the head coach needs one
- 33:37Speaker 3: in the worst way. Now, as we reported last week, Patulo,
- 33:40Speaker 3: if he stays, they've offer him an opportunity to stay,
- 33:43Speaker 3: it would be it would be more to help Nick
- 33:45Speaker 3: just manage stuff like he was doing when he's past
- 33:48Speaker 3: game coordinator. Also, part of his job was more of
- 33:52Speaker 3: administrative as I'm told on that situation. But the bottom
- 33:56Speaker 3: line is, man, they need someone to help Nick, and
- 33:58Speaker 3: they also need these two young coaches. If they need
- 34:03Speaker 3: you're you're on the right t record that they have.
- 34:05Speaker 3: They really need to get Howie Nick have to help
- 34:08Speaker 3: these guys. Yep, and and and and we don't want
- 34:11Speaker 3: the excuse where Nick sit are for the buffalockain. Well,
- 34:13Speaker 3: you know, it's kind of hard when I'm trying to
- 34:15Speaker 3: because when he said he had hot he had to
- 34:17Speaker 3: hire help Kevin. Then he goes, well when someone else
- 34:20Speaker 3: filed up, Well, but you know what, I also have
- 34:22Speaker 3: to coach the game. Well yeah, dude, that's why you
- 34:24Speaker 3: should have hired a scial offensive asistance who can help
- 34:25Speaker 3: you situationally, help with other things that are going on
- 34:28Speaker 3: in the game. Selm, if they could get it done.
- 34:31Speaker 3: He's a head coaching play caller.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Come on, yes, yes, By the way, is that the
- 34:34Speaker 1: Buffalo game that Nick went into the tunnel beating his
- 34:37Speaker 1: chest about winning while everybody else was looking around, like, man,
- 34:40Speaker 1: we just.
- 34:41Speaker 3: That would be the one.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be the game. That would be the game.
- 34:44Speaker 2: All right, hey real quick, just wanted to run this
- 34:47Speaker 2: by you.
- 34:47Speaker 1: But if the NFL is finally done hiring coaches ten
- 34:51Speaker 1: new head coaches, Adham and I have two takeaways from
- 34:54Speaker 1: this one. Uh, the Rooney Rule continues to film miserably
- 34:57Speaker 1: and has not helped black coaches at all good head jobs.
- 35:00Speaker 1: And number two, if you look at the names, the
- 35:03Speaker 1: only one of the ten that I think what my
- 35:06Speaker 1: thing is. I don't think people will look at the
- 35:08Speaker 1: Eagles and learn from them, Like as far as taking chances,
- 35:11Speaker 1: giving an opportunity guy who's not an obvious hot coordinator
- 35:15Speaker 1: or a retread Mike Lafleur, I think of the ten coaches,
- 35:19Speaker 1: is the only one who is a non play calling
- 35:21Speaker 1: coordinator to get a job. He's gonna be the Arizona
- 35:24Speaker 1: Cardinals head coach.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Right. Everybody else is.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Either the hot play calling coordinator like your Minter or
- 35:30Speaker 1: your Kubiak, or the retread like Mike McCarthy or even
- 35:34Speaker 1: John Harbaugh. But It's amazing because you think about guys
- 35:37Speaker 1: like Andy Reid, right quarterbacks coach no experience, winds up
- 35:41Speaker 1: being a great coach. Nick Sirianni was not a play
- 35:44Speaker 1: calling Oh see, he's five for five, two super Bowls,
- 35:46Speaker 1: one ring. Mike Tomlin was a defensive coordinator for one year,
- 35:49Speaker 1: man one year, and they were six and ten when
- 35:53Speaker 1: that the Vikings.
- 35:53Speaker 3: By the way, he was so far down the Steelers list,
- 35:59Speaker 3: it was gonna those us who put information out we
- 36:01Speaker 3: were all wrong. You're you're truly included. We were. We
- 36:03Speaker 3: were told it was gonna be Russ Grim legendary, it
- 36:07Speaker 3: was going to be and then I just I remember
- 36:11Speaker 3: like I felt obvious, humiliated. I was like yeah really yeah.
- 36:14Speaker 3: I still to this day, I don't know what happened.
- 36:18Speaker 3: It reminded me of Charles Bentley when it was just
- 36:20Speaker 3: to be an Eagle and he wasn't remember because when
- 36:23Speaker 3: we woke up, I mean, those of us whore working
- 36:25Speaker 3: on the story whatever year was, Oh a don't I
- 36:28Speaker 3: don't know where Yeah, Kim the head coach, it was
- 36:31Speaker 3: like a fat of conflict. He's getting the job. Russ Grim.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Then Tomlin, who was kind of an afterthought, he and
- 36:38Speaker 3: it was obviously a great choice. But it's just, uh,
- 36:41Speaker 3: it's funny how things work out, man. You It's like
- 36:44Speaker 3: with I mean, you could have pushed me over with
- 36:47Speaker 3: a feather. The Church didn't get the job. A lot
- 36:49Speaker 3: of us who knew what was going on Cleveland, and
- 36:50Speaker 3: we were like, Okay, Schwartzy's getting the job. Then he didn't.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Todd Monkin got it, and then of course that had
- 36:56Speaker 3: the domino of the giants. Harp's not getting his guide
- 36:59Speaker 3: monk mm hm. And they're still as we speak here, Uh,
- 37:03Speaker 3: they're looking at like four to six candidates, if not more.
- 37:05Speaker 3: That one might drag out a little bit yep, but anyway, it's, uh,
- 37:09Speaker 3: this coaching thing is unbelievable, like just such.
- 37:12Speaker 1: A lack of vision though, I mean John Harble, no,
- 37:15Speaker 1: like John Harbo was a special teams coordinator. No one
- 37:18Speaker 1: wants to give Darren Reezie a shot, no matter how
- 37:20Speaker 1: much we hear that, Yeah, nobody.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Gives interviews Dave Rizzi and toe h Rich that the Packers, Yeah,
- 37:33Speaker 3: he is phenomenal, Rich Bassacia. The Raiders blow it by
- 37:36Speaker 3: not having by him not being the head coach.
- 37:39Speaker 1: That was dumb, right, And again Steelhouse was gonna get
- 37:43Speaker 1: a I mean, he got enough looks, but he didn't
- 37:45Speaker 1: give a job.
- 37:46Speaker 3: But Seelhouse. You know what, though, here's what we don't know.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Did he look at the landscape and say, you know what?
- 37:52Speaker 2: Uh uh, it's possible. That's true to me.
- 37:55Speaker 3: You don't know what's going inside of guy's head.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Yep.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Could like Clint Koby, all the juice he's got right
- 38:01Speaker 3: now now. But you also can't tell someone who's gonna
- 38:04Speaker 3: make a minimum of seven million. Probably it's gonna be
- 38:06Speaker 3: way more than that, I'm sure, But I believe the
- 38:09Speaker 3: lowest hate head paid head coach in the NFL's around
- 38:12Speaker 3: seven or eight million, right, and you're you're approaching you're
- 38:17Speaker 3: approaching Pete Carrol it is Heyday probably fifty million or more.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Ben Johnson around fifteen million. It's all about leverage and
- 38:25Speaker 3: tenure and all that stuff. How many people are after you.
- 38:28Speaker 3: But yeah, it's it's been a very wild coaching search.
- 38:33Speaker 2: YEP. I just feel like nobody learns.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Nobody learns from the true success stories in the NFL
- 38:38Speaker 1: that you don't have to hire the re tread or
- 38:41Speaker 1: the play caller. Like there's good coaches out there if
- 38:44Speaker 1: you just give them a shot, like if you hear
- 38:47Speaker 1: them out and don't be afraid to pull the trigger.
- 38:49Speaker 1: The Eagles aren't, the Ravens aren't. The Steelers haven't been.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Other teams too. I'm even the Florida the Packers.
- 38:54Speaker 4: Right.
- 38:54Speaker 2: The floor was an offensive coordinator for the Titans for
- 38:56Speaker 2: one year.
- 38:56Speaker 3: One year, and to be honest with you, it didn't
- 38:59Speaker 3: go very well for.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Him the Titans. Yeah, I remember that.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll give it one.
- 39:03Speaker 2: I'll want up.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Be you ready for this one?
- 39:04Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 39:06Speaker 3: This is hard to believe. I'm not going to look
- 39:07Speaker 3: it up because I was told fifty times, but I
- 39:09Speaker 3: don't know how many people that this is. This is,
- 39:12Speaker 3: you know, people who would know. So two thousand and five,
- 39:16Speaker 3: Mike McCarthy was the forty nine ers OC I believe
- 39:19Speaker 3: the thirty second ranked passing game. I'm not going to
- 39:21Speaker 3: look it up right now. I don't wow. And the
- 39:25Speaker 3: late great Ted Thompson, who was alive, man, I give
- 39:27Speaker 3: him credit. It's just unbelievabcause the criticism. How could you
- 39:31Speaker 3: hire this idiot? Remember that there's no contact. Alex Smith
- 39:35Speaker 3: was the quarterback? Was Rogers here and Alex Smith here?
- 39:38Speaker 3: Come on, man, you do some homework. It was, it was,
- 39:41Speaker 3: it was five, and it was un like I In fact,
- 39:44Speaker 3: I know where I was when it happened. I was
- 39:46Speaker 3: at NFL Films watching tape with Cosell and Jaws and
- 39:49Speaker 3: we were like, wow, Mike McCarthy, they weren't very good,
- 39:53Speaker 3: the Niners. That's ballsy, but hey, good job. Yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Well, I just wanted to make that point and that's
- 39:59Speaker 2: going to do it.
