- 1:01What's up race fans, It is Monday and it is time for the
- 1:04Monday night rewind live on top row racing media presented by
- 1:07ELH detailing and Federated auto parts Another big show on Monday
- 1:12for you. We have John boy Hotchkiss from
- 1:14the Tri excuse me tri-state sprints joining us at 7 O 5:00
- 1:18PM to recap their season talk. Everything going on in that
- 1:21awesome series up in Michigan. And then we have at 745 talking
- 1:26to Van Avery Memorial. Justin Leroy will join us to
- 1:29talk about the big race up at Galesburg in honor of a great
- 1:33racing family. So great show as always.
- 1:35I'm joined as always by the man in the top row himself.
- 1:38Louis knows I'm Buju. By the way, I did not introduce
- 1:40myself in the intro. Very unprofessional.
- 1:42But yeah, joined by Louis. How are we doing tonight, Louis?
- 1:45Good, I actually got sleep. More sleep than I needed,
- 1:49because now I'm behind. But I got sleep.
- 1:51How about you? I, I did sleep, but I'm, I'm
- 1:54still tired. I don't know.
- 1:55This was an exhausting weekend for just being a one track
- 1:57weekend for me. I don't, I'm not sure where all
- 1:59my energy went, but it sure zapped out.
- 2:02It was, maybe it was 'cause it's so dusty at the track this
- 2:04weekend. I think the I think my allergies
- 2:07have shifted into high gear. Well, now this week it's hot
- 2:10again, right? So we kind of went from a little
- 2:12cool to now we're inching back up in the temperatures and so
- 2:18and now we're kind of in a rain pattern again where it's just
- 2:21rain, rain, rain, all the rain. But it was a great weekend
- 2:25though. I mean, I know it kind of it
- 2:26rained on everyone's parade a little bit over it in 40, but
- 2:30the the Sizzler got everything in that late model race was 37
- 2:34minutes long and the first half was 19 minutes long.
- 2:39So they had a few cautions here and there that kind of changed
- 2:43some things up. But otherwise 37 minutes long.
- 2:46It's like, but then you get into the spot where I'm like, OK, my
- 2:49camera batteries were not an issue, but the heat inside the
- 2:52late miles 'cause they obviously going out as a second race of
- 2:56the day when we started at 6:00, which everything started on time
- 3:01when we start, you know then and then modified race didn't take
- 3:04too long. It's like OK, it's still the
- 3:06heat of the day and now the late miles are going to get super
- 3:09hot. So add some that the footage
- 3:11froze, but then but the sound still goes.
- 3:14So there's some repairs I can kind of do to that, but
- 3:17sometimes it just doesn't repair at all.
- 3:20And then I have others that survive the whole time.
- 3:22So it's just kind of now figuring out who survived, who
- 3:26didn't, and but the batteries did.
- 3:30So I'm like, I can't win no matter what, right?
- 3:32Kalamazoo batteries die, but a lot of the footage survived.
- 3:34But this time it's like camera survived or the battery
- 3:38survived, but some of the footage didn't.
- 3:39So it's just, it's one of those things that you're just, you're
- 3:43not going to win everything all the time.
- 3:45But but that Sizzler race was awesome.
- 3:49I I at one time I turned around to Andy Lynn because she was on
- 3:52the roof with Mac Michael McIntyre and I for a lot of the
- 3:56night they went wow. I mean, it was just non,
- 4:00non-stop action everywhere. Congratulations to Jacob
- 4:03Maynard, who pulled off that big win right after Ronnie Maynard,
- 4:08a junior, pulled off his win. And then they also another
- 4:10Maynard almost pulled off the win at the at the end of the
- 4:14night. So I don't know if that's
- 4:16happened before. I, I know we've had two maynards
- 4:18win in the same night, but I don't know if we've had three.
- 4:21So that was or, or I mean, three would have been the the sweep.
- 4:26But but you know, they were all hooked up and everything and
- 4:30Ronnie was very relaxed. I talked to him before the race
- 4:33and because I any chance I can I try to get him to.
- 4:36Connect with him. He's the man.
- 4:39Yeah, and he's like, well, there's just a lot of good
- 4:41competition. I'm like, but this is your turf,
- 4:44you know, like, and, and there was, I mean, Gattons were out
- 4:47there. You had Landis out there.
- 4:52Oh my goodness. Jason #4 Wars.
- 4:56Katie goes in right now. But he's also from Ohio area.
- 4:59He was out there just a lot and then that that, like I said that
- 5:04that Outlaw race, though you and I have talked about this before,
- 5:07the Outlaws, you get one or the other.
- 5:09It's either a really solid race or it's a Bucky race.
- 5:12It's like there's no no in between it.
- 5:15Seems so. For the record, before we move
- 5:19on to the podcast, it wouldn't be the money and I rewind and it
- 5:22wouldn't be the digital scrapbook of short track racing
- 5:24if it wasn't storming for one of us.
- 5:27It is thunderstorming in South Bend right now.
- 5:29Yeah, so he got that and and that's where outside, you can
- 5:33kind of tell because you're behind me, right, So that I'm
- 5:37facing towards like the South Bend area, the laptop is.
- 5:41And I get to watch the sunset over Lake MI.
- 5:44Not to brag, but it is sunny over the lake.
- 5:47It's not quite sunny above me, but over the lake I can see the
- 5:51sunshine and so I know it's coming, but it's also setting at
- 5:55the same time, like it's not going to be sunny too much
- 5:58longer. So if I disappear, I didn't get
- 6:00bored. I promise there's some loud
- 6:03Thunder out there right now. So for the record.
- 6:05Yeah, Oh, the the Thunder booms were good.
- 6:08They were some good ones that came in and so, well, that's
- 6:12where kudos to new pairs. They swapped the schedule around
- 6:17where they saw rain was coming and so they said, let's put the
- 6:20outlaws second and then kudos to reveal the hammer for being
- 6:24flexible to do that. And and then, you know, they got
- 6:28everything in and then it after 10 minutes or so after Jerry won
- 6:34the the limited race, after he won that race, then it started
- 6:38sprinkling. So, I mean, they didn't have a
- 6:40lot of wiggle room, but I like I.
- 6:43Over this way we got for about 10 minutes.
- 6:45So we were getting very sparse, big fat heavy drops.
- 6:48That's that's all we got over here so.
- 6:51Yeah, so it was very so I but I know M40 looks soaked, you know,
- 6:55I think they got a little bit of a soaker so especially on.
- 6:58Championship night that really. Yep.
- 7:00Which reminds me of before we bring John Boy in.
- 7:03I did post it officially today, but you know, I sent an open
- 7:06invite, which we talked about last week.
- 7:08I sent an open invite on Facebook to champions from
- 7:12wherever it doesn't matter you you can be in Ohio, you can be
- 7:15in Wisconsin, wherever it is that you want to be or that you
- 7:18are. And we'll set up 15 minute
- 7:20segments on a Monday and it's going to take a couple Mondays.
- 7:24So I do want to spread them out too.
- 7:27But I want to do some championship edition Monday
- 7:30night rewinds just to give people a chance to come on, talk
- 7:33about their season briefly think their marketing partners and
- 7:37everything. Because I mean, one thing too
- 7:39that and when we think about the rewind and what we've been able
- 7:42to build over 20 now 2028 full episodes working on 29 is, you
- 7:48know, just on the top row Facebook page itself, which
- 7:50we're only live on top Rd. tonight.
- 7:52National compacts on Connect for me, 94,000 views just on this
- 7:57channel, top row. That doesn't include adding in
- 8:01the time that we were live on Hartford, the time we were live
- 8:03on new pairs, the time we were live on other pages, just on top
- 8:07row itself, 94,000 views. And in the same time frame, the
- 8:13next closest podcast was 34 or yeah, 34,000 behind in the 60s.
- 8:21So you know, that just kind of shows that what we've been able
- 8:24to build over this time on Facebook.
- 8:26I know YouTube keeps kind of inching up on the views there.
- 8:31Spotify, it kind of is like a roller coaster right now.
- 8:34It just depends on the episode, but but again, that's just
- 8:39pretty cool. But it's also like, hey, this
- 8:41this show will bring you a lot of exposure.
- 8:43I I don't want to guarantee exposure, but it will bring you
- 8:46the opportunity and this ecosystem, you know, to
- 8:50definitely get out there far and wide.
- 8:51So so hopefully, you know, champions take advantage of
- 8:55that. It for you to them to do right.
- 8:58They just come on on or come on in.
- 9:00And you know, we're very laid back.
- 9:03As I was telling John Boy, who we're bringing on here in just a
- 9:06second that, you know, this is a shoot first, aim second show.
- 9:09Like, you know, imagine you're sitting in the pit pit area
- 9:12having a cold one shooting the breeze.
- 9:15As someone who before was a host on the show, was a guest on the
- 9:18show, I understand the inclination to be nervous when
- 9:21you're coming on. But man, I promise you, there's
- 9:23no reason to be nervous to come to come on the show, I swear to
- 9:26you. No.
- 9:28And you know, we'll have audio flops from time to time.
- 9:30We'll have all these other things from time to time.
- 9:32So like. Yeah, I knock my mic over every
- 9:34other week or my every other week.
- 9:36It's so, yeah, we're real. Over here.
- 9:40Yep. But other than that, after John
- 9:43Boy, I'll do a schedule update just to let everyone know.
- 9:45Again, this Thursday is our final weekly episode of the
- 9:48Thursday Night Thunder copyright infringement letter coming soon.
- 9:56But Thursday Night Throttle. And then I do have the full
- 9:59schedule that takes us to almost November, just to give people an
- 10:03idea of when they can see us and mark it down.
- 10:05And don't forget the Monday Night Rewind is not live next
- 10:08Monday because of Labor Day weekend.
- 10:11We were live on Memorial Day. But I feel like with Labor Day,
- 10:13a lot of people are still traveling, coming back, doing
- 10:15different things. So we're going to be live next
- 10:17Wednesday for the Monday night Rewind.
- 10:19I'm not changing the logo or the name.
- 10:21It will be the Monday night Rewind just a few days later.
- 10:25But maybe somewhere it's Monday in the world, a case of the
- 10:27Mondays for somebody. But go ahead and bring on John
- 10:31Boy since you're just a few minutes behind.
- 10:33But I thought, you know, some housekeeping notes, some shout
- 10:35outs, some, you know, different things that we can do.
- 10:38But again, Michigan Motorsports Hall of Famer and tri-state
- 10:43Sprint's owner John Boy Hotchkiss, let's go ahead and
- 10:46bring him on and let's talk tri-state Sprint.
- 10:48So John Boy, again, welcome to the Monday Night Rewind.
- 10:51So excited to have you. Well, hello everybody, and
- 10:54thanks guys and congratulations on your success.
- 10:58What an honor. Thanks to the opportunity here.
- 11:01Well, it's and it's our honor. You're a Hall of Famer, right?
- 11:05So you have a legendary career that not only have you lived,
- 11:09but now you continue to give back to the sport and bringing,
- 11:13you know, the Sprint cars to tracks all around the area.
- 11:17And and I'm so excited to talk about the tri-state sprints.
- 11:20Not only were you guys the first marketing partner of Top Row
- 11:23Racing Media jumped on without hesitation as the very first
- 11:27right, But then your shows. I was so impressed with what you
- 11:31did at Springport a few years ago when I first saw you guys in
- 11:342024. And then you get a chance to see
- 11:36you at Kalamazoo this year and Corrigan Oil.
- 11:41I hope that if we have track owners or promoters who are
- 11:43listening that you know after tonight they give a they give it
- 11:48a thought about bringing the tri-state Sprints.
- 11:50Because when you guys give your tagline the most competitive
- 11:54Sprint car show on asphalt, you're not lying.
- 11:57Like there's video evidence that would support your claim.
- 12:00It's not just, you know, you get tracks that say world's fastest,
- 12:03world's fastest. You're like, well, there can
- 12:04only be like so many world's fastest, right?
- 12:06And you know, and you got like South Bend and Slinger fighting
- 12:10over that title for world's fastest quarter mile.
- 12:12And then you have half miles fighting over world's fastest
- 12:15half miles. But but your Sprint car shows
- 12:18definitely competitive if. And so we'll talk about what
- 12:22that looks like too. But before we get there, John
- 12:25Boy, I always like to start off with what I call the softball
- 12:28question of the night. And that's just for those who
- 12:31are watching who may not know who you are and how you earn the
- 12:35honor to be a Michigan Motorsports Hall of Famer.
- 12:38Who is John Boy Hotchkiss? Well, thanks for that
- 12:42opportunity. I've been around this quite a
- 12:46bit. It all started out when I would
- 12:48visit my aunt and uncle down by Butler in between school years
- 12:52and we'd always go to Butler and and enjoy the races there.
- 12:57The Jack Sharps and the tailors, those kind of people.
- 13:01I had to sit up in the stands back then and I'll never forget
- 13:06it. I was jumping up and down and
- 13:08cheering on Jack Sharp and those guys, and my aunt looked over at
- 13:11me and says you know that they can't hear you, don't you?
- 13:14That that. Ruined it.
- 13:16That was that was really hurt then, but racing won the same
- 13:21after that. And but then eventually a Butch
- 13:24Dalker and couple other friends and I built a late model back in
- 13:2973. Butch Phoea drove up for us in
- 13:3274 and then the two bushes went on and built another car and I
- 13:37had my car to sell or let somebody drive or try it myself
- 13:43and what the heck, I'll give it a shot.
- 13:45And got rookie of the year at Butler Speedway in 75 there for
- 13:49my number. And then it just progressed from
- 13:52there. And then it went asphalt racing
- 13:55with a late model. And and then I was whining to my
- 14:01car partner, George Goffson, about having to stay at one
- 14:04track all the time. He said, well, you know, if he
- 14:06was in Sprint cars with me, we could travel.
- 14:09So he found me a car and I put my late model engine in it and
- 14:15got rookie of the year and sod in 92.
- 14:18Wow. And then when Tony Nozo branched
- 14:23off with AVSS on asphalt, I followed that, stayed on the
- 14:27asphalt and raced myself till 2011.
- 14:32And then I had a chance to put some other guys in in my car
- 14:36like John Turnbull Junior and and got him hooked on it.
- 14:43And it just happened again here a couple weeks ago at at
- 14:48Corrigan, the Waldo Brinski, who John Trudell has been trying to
- 14:56get him into Sprint cars along with the rest of us.
- 14:59And he finally jumped in in Georgia, mine's car the and took
- 15:07that out for a ride at Owosso. And that smile hasn't left
- 15:11since. And so he ended up driving it at
- 15:16at Corrigan that Friday night, won his heat race first thing.
- 15:19And then we ran second to Quinton for a few laps till his
- 15:24brakes started fading. But what a that that hits right
- 15:29here that that I can bring these guys on and continue.
- 15:32And so in 2015, well, actually it was 2010, Joe Dorr oh
- 15:44nominated me for rookie for Hall of Fame, and it took about five
- 15:50years for me to finally get in there.
- 15:52But what an honor I'm I'm still bossing off the ceiling to be
- 15:57inducted in Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame.
- 16:00And now I find myself as vice president of such to Dave Deham.
- 16:06So just gets deeper than, I don't know, I guess I was bored
- 16:10or something. I I need a little bit more to
- 16:12do. And I was paying attention to
- 16:15the Super modified. So they were getting around with
- 16:18the 10 inch tires. I was impressed by all that I
- 16:22said if they can do it, why can't a Sprint car?
- 16:25So with the edging, the the pushing from a number of people,
- 16:30I thought I'll give a shot and then try this promoting deal.
- 16:35Well, that's a lot harder than driving if I had to do it over.
- 16:42I'm glad I. Did it it's just I, I always go
- 16:45by crawl, walk, run and I think I'm crawling a little faster
- 16:50now. Finally we we had 10 shows
- 16:54scheduled this year. Of course, Auto City had a fire
- 16:58last December and they didn't get ready in time for any shows
- 17:05and Springport change hands. We lost a show there, lost a
- 17:10show in Canada for the economy and we lost Birch Run for for
- 17:19the rain. But we had five more I can't see
- 17:23with it's only 5. We had five more awesome races
- 17:27this year that I'm just so proud of the guys of and nobody won
- 17:31from the front row and it it all came from probably the 3rd or
- 17:364th row. Averaged 4 passes for the lead
- 17:43through throughout the year. And it's just it is a very
- 17:47competitive situation with these American racers on the card in
- 17:52different ways. We got Sprint cars with small
- 17:56engines with big tires and we got all open Sprint cars with
- 18:01big engines on small tires. And to add into it, I invited
- 18:06the Super modifieds with their narrow tires from the 350
- 18:12Outlaws Supers and and the Lorraine Sandusky area.
- 18:18So that's it and kind of a nutshell.
- 18:22I'm I'm already talking to tracks for next year.
- 18:27It's exciting. It I'd like to have my schedule
- 18:30done by Thanksgiving, But so I don't know.
- 18:34But it's it's a challenge, but it's been interesting and it's
- 18:39it's smoothing out. Well, and that's where again,
- 18:43you have a really solid team, you know behind you where you
- 18:46know Sean Sprague is your announcer and and helps with a
- 18:50lot of things. Of course you got the great and
- 18:51wonderful David Howe and Dora, you know, who are just
- 18:55phenomenal people too. You have Chuck, you know, on
- 18:59there on the team. And I hope I'm not forgetting
- 19:02anybody. I I don't feel like I forgot
- 19:04somebody. You know who's with you?
- 19:06Keisha Howell. What the hell?
- 19:08Yeah, Keisha, how I now? She'll slap me next time.
- 19:13She'll lay out. Yeah, yeah, because that that
- 19:16now that's shame on me that I forgot her, but because her and
- 19:20I got to connect when David was in the hospital and excuse me,
- 19:24but that's where, you know, you have a really solid team.
- 19:27You know, it's not a huge team, but you have a solid team.
- 19:29And sometimes it's not about Quan, you know, it's not about
- 19:32that quantity, but it's the quality of people who you have
- 19:35with you. And obviously, I mean, your cars
- 19:37are on the track when they're supposed to be, they're off.
- 19:39Exactly. You know, you know when they're
- 19:41supposed to be. That means communication's
- 19:43happening, things are happening. And you know, what a lot of
- 19:46people may not understand about this tri-state group is that,
- 19:50yes, it's a tri-state sprints. But as you talked, we have super
- 19:53modifieds that are in here like AJ Lasecki, obviously a very
- 19:57accomplished driver. Then you have, you know, Andrew
- 20:00Bogus, who's driving the smaller Sprint car engine.
- 20:03And then you have, you know, like Jason Blonde who's racing
- 20:06the larger engine and, you know, doing his thing, right.
- 20:09And so, you know, you've used tires to balance that out where
- 20:14you know, if someone wants to race, all these super modifieds
- 20:17are going to blow out these cars.
- 20:19Hold on, folks, you know, you're in for a great race in at
- 20:23Corrigan, a tight quarter mile. That was so fun to watch them do
- 20:28that. Watch AJ battle up front at
- 20:30Kalamazoo. Andrew Bogus was kind of in
- 20:32Sturgis, You know, when people, you know, before that yellow
- 20:35flag came out, he was already, you know, getting ready to load
- 20:38up the trailer and everything. And then that yellow came out
- 20:41and that helped Jason Blonde catch up and that brought the
- 20:43field tight again. But you know, small Sprint car
- 20:47was they was battling, you know, with these super modifieds in
- 20:51the larger Sprint cars. So again, that's something that
- 20:55you know, you've been able to use like American racers, which
- 20:58you're going full time next year.
- 20:59You're not doing any more like Hoosier stuff.
- 21:01You're going all in on American racer that you know, you're able
- 21:05to balance that kind of deal. And so when you think about the
- 21:07tracks that you want to go to, you know, especially for maybe
- 21:11promoters and owners who might be listening to the show, like
- 21:15what what kind of tracks are you looking for on your schedule or
- 21:19are ideal for your series? And you know, what's the kind of
- 21:23like the setup that you're willing to share, Like, you
- 21:26know, who helps cover the purse or who, you know, is there an
- 21:28appearance fee or you know, whatever that may you don't you
- 21:31don't have to give specific numbers or anything.
- 21:33We're not going to quote you on that, but you know, you can kind
- 21:36of divvy like here's how it works, Here's what we do, here's
- 21:39what the tracks do, here's what Tri-state does.
- 21:41Yeah, it's right. Now we're finding ourselves on
- 21:46bank quarter miles, flat quarter miles, same way with a 3/8 both
- 21:52ways. We're we're not jumping on the
- 21:56Winchester's and Salem's, but we'll run pretty much anything
- 21:59else. Whoever will will talk and
- 22:03communicate with me. I'm not that hard to find and
- 22:10you know, I've, I've been helping out with with a lot of
- 22:12the purse just just to get into some of these tracks and get get
- 22:17our feet in there. What a what a thrill.
- 22:21But to go back to the the different car parodies, Andrew
- 22:25Bogus had the guys covered at Anderson until his stop broke on
- 22:33his torsion bar. Yeah, that was that tore him up
- 22:38big time. But we've had a variety and
- 22:40we've had a lot of all three cars have been in the top three,
- 22:46a different one in each place there.
- 22:49But it, it's just when I come up with that most competitive, I
- 22:54just kind of threw that out there.
- 22:56But it's, it's, it's coming to true.
- 23:00Well, that's where again, you're living it, right.
- 23:02And that, and I think that's the thing that, you know, sometimes
- 23:06when people see monikers or whatever, like, yeah, everyone
- 23:09says that. But you know, promoters promote
- 23:11as we, as we sometimes hear people say our owners are gonna,
- 23:14you know, you're right, 'cause that's your job, right?
- 23:16Is to promote your, you know, you wanna make it sound like
- 23:18it's the best seat in the house and the best show to go.
- 23:21But then you get there and you're like, you know, you could
- 23:24sit there and, you know, kind of do like a Vince McMahon, you
- 23:27know, printing money in a way where you're like, you know,
- 23:29these guys are living this, right?
- 23:31They're showing that we are the most competitive.
- 23:33And and I think when you walk away from that, it's not just a
- 23:37promoter promoting, it's the drivers who are doing the
- 23:40showing that says, like, you need to watch us.
- 23:44And your format's even unique. It's not just here's a heat
- 23:47race. OK, check mark.
- 23:49Your heat races matter, you know, just like the dirt site.
- 23:52So if you want to talk a little bit about your format and what
- 23:54makes the tri-state Sprint so unique to what I can watch on a
- 23:58Friday night at a track where here's your 65 heat race.
- 24:01Congratulations, we got the heat races done.
- 24:03Here's our 15 minute intermission.
- 24:05Congratulations, we got that check mark done.
- 24:07Now here's our features, right? So if you want to describe your
- 24:10format a little bit. Well-being in racing for so long
- 24:14I had I had drathers and and what I wanted to see is is a
- 24:22fan. You know, I, I, I put myself in
- 24:24the fans place. Well, they want to see and
- 24:26that's passing. So I don't start fast guys up
- 24:30front until they start sandbagging or something like
- 24:36that, which Sprint car, sprints car people don't, but they're,
- 24:40they, they know I need to show. The fans want to show.
- 24:45But I will have the guys qualify.
- 24:48And then the, the even qualifiers 1357 like that will
- 24:55be totally inverted in the first heat and the even qualifiers
- 24:59will be totally inverted in the second heat.
- 25:02And that's how they line up on the feature.
- 25:06And then Jeff Bloom was kind enough to build me a die with a
- 25:12six 8 or 10 on it. The winner of the first heat
- 25:15will roll that die and six, eight or ten will will invert
- 25:23the the front of the field the the feature line up after that.
- 25:26So you you got to be you got to be good.
- 25:30Yeah, got to be fast and then you got to be lucky.
- 25:34So it it's really worked out good.
- 25:36It means something in the heat races.
- 25:39So it's it's all about the fans see in passing and trying to
- 25:46figure out who's going to do what was which combination.
- 25:51This this all started back. I, I want to name this Trisac
- 25:55because back in the day that's what they were known for is
- 26:00everybody running together. But I came up with this
- 26:03Tri-state Sprints was as close as I'm going to get to Trisac
- 26:08and, and, and they put on some great shows and, and that's what
- 26:12I demand and, and to have a good time.
- 26:14I have fun and no complaints is is what it's all about.
- 26:22I, I don't hear complaints. So this is good.
- 26:27Well, and being in your pity area, definitely got to see
- 26:30that. I mean, Walt, as you mentioned
- 26:33at Corgan, he was so Dang happy when he came over because I so
- 26:37Andre Newman said So what do you think?
- 26:40And what that's what Walt looked like.
- 26:42He was at Walt Disney World, you know, like he was so happy, you
- 26:47know, to talk about that and how he loves it and everything.
- 26:49And obviously, you know, they're in they're involved in the
- 26:52modified scene too, you know, but he was all about that John
- 26:55Trudell, right, who's very tradition and a late model has
- 26:59loved his time in the Sprint cars and is going more towards
- 27:02the Sprint car side of things. Obviously Spring Port people
- 27:04would know all about John Trudell, but again, I think
- 27:08that's what stands out is that the commodity, you know, in that
- 27:11pit area where you know, everyone's laid back and hanging
- 27:14out and shooting the breeze. And even after the race, they're
- 27:17hanging out shooting the breeze, you know, having a cold one when
- 27:20they legally can. And, and, and I think that
- 27:23stands out because, you know, there's even if something
- 27:27happened on the track, which in the times I've seen you, you're
- 27:31serious, nothing luckily has happened.
- 27:33But you know, I know you guys had talked about one situation
- 27:36where like it got talked out. There's no yelling, there's no
- 27:39shouting. There is no, because you're, you
- 27:41weren't going to put up with that kind of stuff.
- 27:43So, you know, and I think that goes a long ways.
- 27:47That's from experience. But yeah, going back to John
- 27:50Trudell, we did the same thing we did with the Wall is did a
- 27:55test session and then he ended up buying the car and Walt did
- 28:00same thing. We had George, my car partner,
- 28:02George Gusson and I, who is the oldest Sprint car driver at
- 28:06least in the state, and he won last year.
- 28:10So it's quite a variety. But we we got walled in that
- 28:16way. And Ike Beasley, I got him
- 28:19involved back in the day. So I've I've achieved a lot of
- 28:26different, a lot of different avenues here.
- 28:30And then I put on euchre parties in between.
- 28:34During the winter I used to get about 60 people in my shop here
- 28:40playing euchre. Yeah, well, there you.
- 28:45Go do it all. So I'm going to kick over to
- 28:48Buju because I know he's been quiet for a little bit.
- 28:50So I'm going to let him kick in because I don't think he has
- 28:53seen a tri-state Sprint show yet, unless I'm wrong.
- 28:56So he pretends to be John Boy. I know you, you may not know
- 28:59this. He pretends to be a front wheel
- 29:00drive racer sometimes, but he has he has been announced right
- 29:03in new Paris and did really well with that.
- 29:05And obviously he has his Buju bowl rings and all that.
- 29:07So he's definitely on the the announcer side and media side
- 29:11kind of things too. So I'm going to definitely kick
- 29:13over to him so he can he can learn more about you and Tri
- 29:16states because he would be a potential fan who would get to
- 29:19see you for the first time in 2027.
- 29:22So we go to New Paris. Yeah, I'm trying.
- 29:26So that I mean that's always kind of on my complaint with
- 29:28John Boy growing up around here with traveling series open wheel
- 29:33racing coming in, there's a lot of time that they either didn't
- 29:34bring car counts or it was spread out and it wasn't
- 29:37competitive racing. So you mentioned that you have
- 29:40the most competitive Sprint cars on in the area right now at all
- 29:43asphalt. So what goes into making them
- 29:45more more competitive and why is your series tireder than the
- 29:47other ones? Well, that tire, it's, it's the
- 29:52whole answer. That's one thing.
- 29:55I promised the guys that we would have more economical tires
- 30:00and they're a they're a great tire.
- 30:05You know, going back to the low horsepower, big tire, big
- 30:09horsepower, a little tire. It's, you know, I've had to
- 30:13tweak it. So I'm no doubt and maybe even
- 30:17some more, but I, I think we're on to something that'll last
- 30:21right now. It it, but, but that tire is, is
- 30:25just the evener. That's, that's what it's all
- 30:30about. I mean, it's work for a number
- 30:32of other serieses. People would come up to me and
- 30:35said, well, that don't look right with that little tire on
- 30:39there and I'll tell them, well, that big tire don't look right.
- 30:43So I'll do a little bantering there.
- 30:47Because you're smaller sprints use the traditional like I think
- 30:52this year is the big Hoosier that people would normally
- 30:55expect on like world of Isle or whatever, like that big thick
- 30:58tire. But then, you know, your super
- 31:00modifieds are like, you know, like it's just a little.
- 31:04And yes, it does look different, you know, compared to what you
- 31:07might expect to see. But but as you said, you know
- 31:11the booze you sing with, you know that the way you bounce the
- 31:14Hoosiers and now you're going all in on American racer like
- 31:17that is leveled at playing field because no one can just outrun
- 31:21the other would between engine and tire.
- 31:24The only time the fans see that little tire is when they're in
- 31:27the pits out. There in the race.
- 31:29Track. That all goes away.
- 31:33The fans. The fans.
- 31:34Are trying to see the racing and if the tire makes for good
- 31:37racing then it's working out for everybody right it?
- 31:40Is yeah, it's work good for the supers.
- 31:42I mean, they're they're even running a class of them out to
- 31:46Oswego, a super modified class out there and Star Speedway.
- 31:52So it's it's all over. It's just I'm the first Sprint
- 31:55car group to do it. Did you get any pushback from
- 31:59your guys when you're combined the Super modifieds into the
- 32:01into the series or was it? No, no, not really.
- 32:11No, there, there wasn't any problem with, with bringing
- 32:14different. In fact, they encouraged it
- 32:17because that brought more people.
- 32:19And, and I, I, I keep saying, you know, let's whatever it
- 32:24takes to make the fan happy. And, and they, they, you know,
- 32:31they was all willing to try it. And so far so good.
- 32:36Yeah. And I almost think it's a
- 32:38throwback to the to the older days of racing in a way where
- 32:41you had some creativity in cars and you had different looking
- 32:43cars on the racetrack at the same time.
- 32:45So yeah, I think that I think that's another A+ to the series
- 32:48that might make me a fan of the Tri States.
- 32:50Prince when I. Don't have AI, don't have a
- 32:52bunch of rules either. Safety rules and these tires and
- 32:57and 10 inch wheels on two corners and 12 inch tire or
- 33:03wheels on the other two corners for stagger and to flatten out
- 33:07the tire a bit. But I I guess the KISS in my
- 33:12name stands for more than the end of my name is keep it
- 33:16simple, stupid. I I was.
- 33:21I was born to use that. Name well, now I'm never I'm
- 33:29going I'm never not going to Unsee that now you know I'm
- 33:32going to see you know Hotchkiss and I'm going to and it's going
- 33:35to just come back to me each time I hadn't I hadn't put that
- 33:38together, but now that you said it, it's just going to be there
- 33:42now. Now I'm just that's what I'm
- 33:43going to see is again, that's where your series is just so
- 33:48incredible. So I guess when you live by your
- 33:51own rule, keep it simple, stupid, then you really can't
- 33:55mess it up. Well, and a lot of it is I, I
- 33:58demand having fun. You know, it's just, it's been
- 34:02so serious and, and some of these other divisions and
- 34:06series, it just, and I see all this stuff because I've been at
- 34:10it for so long that I know what I want to change to make the
- 34:16the, the competitors and the fans happier.
- 34:21Buju, any other questions that you had or thoughts?
- 34:23What? When was it that you you jumped
- 34:25out of the race car, John Boy? When did you stop racing?
- 34:27I, my last shot was in 2011 at at Oregon with it when we were
- 34:33running non wing there. I had a knee replacement all
- 34:39that year and, and actually it was my left knee and that that
- 34:44brake pedal really helped in the rehab part.
- 34:49But then actually Gary Fiedwag got a hold of me for the 2012
- 34:56season that he had a young man down in North Carolina that Tim,
- 35:04Gary's nephew Tim spotted with and they he had a sponsor.
- 35:13He came up here and drove my non wing car.
- 35:15Then it was all about putting people in my cars after that and
- 35:20kind of still doing that because George and I will.
- 35:22Well, we bought Chris Jagger out and that's the car that Walter
- 35:26Brinski now has and we bought Billy's Heaney out and that's
- 35:34the car that John Trudell has. So we just we just buy and sell
- 35:40and have a good time at it. It's all about having fun.
- 35:44That's right. That's that's what I love about
- 35:45racers. They might get out of the car,
- 35:46but they never really stop racing.
- 35:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I, you know, George is
- 35:52doing it at 77. I wouldn't be afraid to get back
- 35:55into it. There you go.
- 35:56Hey, that'll give me my next question if watching the the
- 35:58great racing that your series put on puts on ever makes you
- 36:01miss being in the car? Oh absolutely it does.
- 36:03But I promised myself that I wouldn't race in my series
- 36:07because I've seen past track owners racing at their own track
- 36:16and it, it, it's just not a, a healthy situation.
- 36:22So I I promised myself I'd stay out of I might do some hot
- 36:26laughing or something, but no one.
- 36:30It never knows. How can someone get into the
- 36:35tri-state Sprint? So I know you talked like you
- 36:37have a couple house cars that you have display cars and that
- 36:40kind of deal. So how can somebody find a
- 36:44Sprint car, find a super modified to join in on the
- 36:47tri-state sprints? Well, I know where there's a
- 36:49bunch of them for sale. I'm trying to.
- 36:53I try to keep one in stock. Working on a deal right now.
- 36:56I might possibly get another. I'm sold out right now.
- 37:01Now Quentin's car is here. We I'll let him keep that up
- 37:05while he's here from South Africa and and win our series.
- 37:10Our driver's point fund was won by him.
- 37:14I'm out of cars right now, but I've got a line on a on a couple
- 37:19more. But you know, just get a hold of
- 37:20me Tri-state sprints or yeah, you can go right to to that or
- 37:29my phone number is 517-512-4313. But I'm not hard to find in
- 37:39Potterville. So not too far from David, you
- 37:43know David Howe and Beacon Sales on service.
- 37:46About 10 minutes, yeah. So I know you guys hang out
- 37:50quite often and talk about the series and talk about different
- 37:53things. And why don't you talk a little
- 37:55bit about, as we get ready to wrap up here, why don't you talk
- 37:58a little bit about the sponsors who marketing partners, whatever
- 38:01you want to call them, who have joined, you know, who have
- 38:03jumped on this season to help the Tri-state Sprints get around
- 38:07Michigan and Indiana. Right, Well, sorry, Joy Barnhill
- 38:14has has chipped in and I I figured he's going to be a
- 38:18lifelong a sponsor here, but Dave and Dora from Beacon sales
- 38:25and service there in Charlotte and Keisha at the Hollywood
- 38:29Jacks and then George's girlfriend Debbie, her daughter.
- 38:39I can't remember the name of the company right now, of course,
- 38:42but it they're up in Ludington, so it's not a really close place
- 38:46anyway. They're kind of a off the a
- 38:49beaten path type of sponsor, but one of the major sponsors once
- 38:56again, they can can get a hold of me through Facebook or phone,
- 39:03phone book to, to jump on board, like I said, to to get a car.
- 39:09You know, what we can do is is what we did with Wald is take
- 39:13him to Owosso and and hot lap the car and and see if it fits
- 39:18their their thought process and and run it and hook a hook
- 39:25another one. Yeah, I mean, like I said, Walt,
- 39:29when you saw him, he was just smiling ear to ear at Corrigan
- 39:35talking about that when Andre Newman asked him about it.
- 39:37And, and when you see someone who's that excited for
- 39:41something, especially someone who has done modified racing,
- 39:44has done other things and and had success, I mean that that
- 39:48says a lot. And sometimes the challenge is
- 39:51what makes it fun, right? Is it something different?
- 39:55And they don't. Yeah, he's.
- 39:58Been wanting to do this or for a long time but finally he got
- 40:03tipped over and Dave and Dora, they're just.
- 40:07Over the moon helping us out. I mean, they've been involved in
- 40:10a lot of series with a lot of great people, but they're having
- 40:14fun here and hell, Dave jumps on a on a quad and pushes cars
- 40:22around and they're, they're needed and and they enjoy being
- 40:26needed, so. Well, and even that push off at
- 40:31Corrigan, right, you only had a couple push off vehicles, which
- 40:34I know sometimes you have a Sprint show, you feel like you
- 40:36need a lot of them. But you know, you had the most
- 40:38car count of the season at Corrigan.
- 40:41That was 17. That crowd, right?
- 40:43That Friday crowd was the most that they've had all season
- 40:48across many of their shows. And then, you know, it didn't
- 40:52seem like it took that long. Like I went to go post a clip
- 40:55from the previous race and like, oh, Dang, they're already
- 40:57getting ready to line up. You know, I thought I would have
- 40:59had a few minutes there. And which is a little different
- 41:02on 1/4 mile versus and they have the Figure 8 to benefit from
- 41:06versus like at Kalamazoo where they have to go all the way back
- 41:08around and then all the way back around and then all the way back
- 41:11around, you know, But again, that was impressive too.
- 41:14And so I know you've been at Springport, which obviously is a
- 41:17large paper clip 3/8. You've been down to Corrigan
- 41:22Oil, which is that small Bullring quarter mile and so
- 41:26Anderson, Anderson Speedway down there with their banking.
- 41:30And so you've been around Kalamazoo.
- 41:33So obviously you've had a mix of tracks and, and hopefully for
- 41:362027, some of these tracks in the area or maybe look do
- 41:40something different. Also, you have to just look at
- 41:42the pictures of the Corgan oil crowd when you came and go.
- 41:45What? What can your series do for a
- 41:47crowd? I call it the best racing crowd.
- 41:50Yeah, you, you're not going to beat the demolition destruction
- 41:53nights, but they definitely we brought the best racing crowd, I
- 41:58call it. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:01In same way with Whittemore, we went up there and they they had
- 42:07their best crowd. But Kalamazoo and and Anderson,
- 42:14yeah, I just when when promoted properly, it shows.
- 42:20And again, they if you want to give your phone number one more
- 42:23time, if track owners or promoters want to reach out,
- 42:26obviously they can reach to you on Facebook, Job boy Hotchkiss
- 42:28and obviously through tri-state sprints, they can also get a
- 42:31hold of you. But if you want to give your
- 42:32phone number one more time, like I told you, I I'm going to do
- 42:35everything I can and talking with Chris and Tracy down at New
- 42:40Paris. So maybe find a way, you know,
- 42:44even when I was walking the track and kind of looking at
- 42:46their wall and then kind of comparing it to Corrigan and
- 42:48Springport, I'm like, OK, maybe turn 4 is a little suspicious,
- 42:52but you know, the rest of the wall looked pretty decent, like
- 42:55any other wall. And so, you know, I know
- 42:59obviously anything can happen on any given night, but I like I
- 43:01I've told you, I'm going to do everything I can to see if we
- 43:04could get Tri states down the new pairs.
- 43:05But phone number that's. Yeah, that's 517-512-4313 And
- 43:14we, we've raced, you know, I've, I've been at New Paris, we've
- 43:18raced the Sprint cars there with auto value with a big tire.
- 43:22So it's not like Sprint cars haven't been there and we're,
- 43:27we're maybe 3/4 of a second slower than than the big tires.
- 43:33So that, that should help there. You know, I wouldn't be opposed
- 43:36to Toledo, but you know, the the Winchesters and the Salems,
- 43:43probably not, but New Paris and, you know, Plymouth, some of
- 43:50these, they just, you know, I don't hear back from them for
- 43:54some kind of reason. But the tracks that I have had
- 43:57races at and we'll be calling again have really enjoyed and
- 44:03we've enjoyed each other. I know Jim Leisure was so happy,
- 44:07and that was good to see too. You know, he was really
- 44:09impressed with your show. Well, it meant a lot to have you
- 44:13there with the media stuff and pumping us.
- 44:17So win, win, win. Yep.
- 44:21Well, again, that's where tri-state Sprint's the most
- 44:25competitive asphalt Sprint car show that you'll see, and they
- 44:29definitely live by that. And and again, with your Hall of
- 44:31Fame career now you're giving back in a whole nother way, you
- 44:34know, as a promoter, which is not the easiest thing to do in
- 44:37the world, but you know, you're doing it and you have a great
- 44:39group behind you. And so I, I'm, I'm excited to
- 44:42see where where things shake up and how they shake out as you
- 44:46get the 2027 season ready to go. Well, I appreciate your
- 44:51hospitality and and plugs. Oh, and we'll keep you doing it.
- 44:56I mean, I know just even if you watch spring ports 2023-2024,
- 45:02excuse me, 2024 race and then even, you know, compare that to
- 45:07Kalamazoo this year in Corgan oil.
- 45:09It's like, man, this was that was fun.
- 45:10Then I'd love how you did it and watch the Sprint cars at Spring
- 45:14Port was pretty awesome. And then obviously getting to
- 45:17see what you did this year at Kalamazoo.
- 45:19I know last year got rained out. This year you had a chance.
- 45:21Beautiful weather. And then at Corrigan I just that
- 45:25you only need video evidence to show what kind of show that you
- 45:28can bring and crowd. Obviously pictures help too
- 45:31'cause it's like OK, this is what it looked like before then
- 45:34this is what it looked like with them.
- 45:36And there was actually people in my camera shop, you know, so
- 45:40that means something, right? And so, you know, obviously all
- 45:44the contract details and all that for purse and pay, you
- 45:47know, pay and all that is a whole different ball game that
- 45:49you get to take care of that. We don't have to get in the
- 45:52details here, but I, I promise you, as someone who gets to
- 45:56travel around to different tracks and see different series
- 45:58and see different things, your your group is definitely
- 46:01exciting. So just keep doing what you're
- 46:03doing and building on that. And obviously with must see
- 46:06racing kind of, I don't wanna say dead, but obviously those
- 46:11front car drivers are looking for things to do.
- 46:13Maybe those guys can start looking over at tri-state
- 46:15sprints and joining you for a couple shows and travel around.
- 46:18Obviously Andrew Bogus could be one of those big poster people
- 46:21to talk about his transition from must see light sprints to
- 46:25tri-state. And I mean he's competitive.
- 46:27I think he took third in your point standings or?
- 46:29Yes, he did. So, you know, with the light
- 46:32Sprint against some of these big heavy hitters and and and
- 46:36everything. So it it's a fair game and Tri.
- 46:39State I've already heard from JJ Hennes or John Hennes that he
- 46:44probably had a couple more cars and Jeff Bloom told me he got a
- 46:48call about two more guys that'll be coming.
- 46:52And so I'm, I'm hearing from people, they're, they're excited
- 46:56and that excites me. So.
- 46:59Oh, absolutely. Well, again, John boy, thank you
- 47:02again for joining us tonight and taking time out of your Monday
- 47:05to talk about the tri-state Sprints.
- 47:08You've given your phone number, obviously they can find you on
- 47:10Facebook and you've given the the to find on tri-state Sprints
- 47:15on Facebook as well. So one way or another, people
- 47:17can get a hold of you to talk about the 2027 season as you
- 47:20start planning now. Absolutely.
- 47:23Yeah. Thank you guys for the for the
- 47:25efforts. I appreciate the opportunity
- 47:28once again. Well.
- 47:29Again, thank you, John Boy. And then and I'm sure we'll be
- 47:33talking soon. Yes, can't wait.
- 47:35We're going to have some meetings and you'll be invited
- 47:37to. It all right us awesome.
- 47:39If not, I'm going to give Sean Sprake a hard time, so thank
- 47:43you. I didn't get that text message?
- 47:45John Boy asked. And we'll give him heck, he'll.
- 47:50Oh, yeah, absolutely. Well, we're gonna be getting him
- 47:53on soon. Like I was telling you that I'm
- 47:54gonna, I'm spreading it out. So we'll get him on soon.
- 47:57We'll get Andrew Bogus and then other drivers as we can to keep
- 47:59the tri-state sprints in the conversation as the winter goes
- 48:02on. So again, thank you for
- 48:04everything, John Boy. I'll be right back at you and
- 48:09absolutely I'm speechless for the opportunity here, but I
- 48:13think we got some points across. So give me a call.
- 48:16You tracks out there. Yep.
- 48:19Again, we've been talking with John Boy Hotchkiss, the owner of
- 48:22tri-state Sprints. You can find him on Facebook.
- 48:26You can also find him through tri-state Sprints.
- 48:28And he also gave his phone number, which once we're done
- 48:31live, you'll get to listen back to it.
- 48:34And you can find him probably often at Beacon Sales and
- 48:36Service just down the road from where he lives in Potterville,
- 48:40Michigan. So again, really exciting to
- 48:42have the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Famer John Boyd
- 48:46Hotchkiss with us and also the Vice President of the Hall of
- 48:49Fame, which you can find at Corrigan Oil Speedway right
- 48:54there at the front entrance. So Buju, before we bring on, I
- 48:57see we have Jesse Junior on and Justin Leroy's on.
- 49:01Just since we're getting near the top of the hour.
- 49:03I don't want to interrupt their interview time.
- 49:05So I do want to do the scheduling notes as we're
- 49:07getting ready for the upcoming weeks.
- 49:10As mentioned, Thursday, September 3rd, hardly believe
- 49:13it's already September is our is our final weekly Thursday
- 49:18episode of the Thursday Night Throttle where we preview the
- 49:20upcoming week. We're going to cut back and do a
- 49:24transition period where we go every other week.
- 49:26So again, Monday, September 7th, there's no Monday night episode
- 49:30because we will be here on Wednesday, September 9th for the
- 49:33Monday night Rewind. And yes, on a Wednesday it will
- 49:35be called the Monday Night Rewind.
- 49:37We will just get used to that. And then Thursday, September
- 49:4017th will be our next Thursday night Throttle, which is just
- 49:45before getting ready for Super Shoe and everything.
- 49:49And then Thursday, October 1st will be our next Thursday
- 49:53throttle after that, which is getting ready for Michigan Cup.
- 49:56And then Thursday, October 15th will be in the next throttle and
- 49:59that'll be right before the Bahama brackets down in Granite
- 50:02County Speedway and Morris, IL See Boozu how I'm doing this,
- 50:05trying to time it up with the big shows.
- 50:08And then Thursday, October 29th, just before Halloween spooky
- 50:11season, we will have our final every other Thursday night
- 50:16throttle. And then from there, November
- 50:19through March will be one Thursday episode a month, which
- 50:21right now I have tentatively scheduled for the second
- 50:25Thursday of each month. That way it avoids where all the
- 50:28holidays fall because obviously you get into Thanksgiving, then
- 50:31you're getting into Christmas and New Year's, Valentine's Day
- 50:34and all the things for those who celebrate Valentine's Day.
- 50:36And excuse me. And obviously that'll get us
- 50:39close to then the South Bend Auto Show, which is in April
- 50:45next year. But but I thought that kind of
- 50:49gives us a chance on a, you know, to talk maybe big things
- 50:52on those Thursday episodes. But I just wanted to give
- 50:54everyone an update on kind of where we're going and what we're
- 50:57doing as the Thursday night throttle phases out to be not
- 51:03all the time. And that opens up Thursdays for
- 51:05us. But otherwise Mondays, except
- 51:08for the 7th, Mondays will continue.
- 51:11That's not phasing out. This is the flagship show, the
- 51:14digital digital storybook of short track racing.
- 51:19And so if you're ready, we can bring on Jesse junior, Ben
- 51:25Avery. I should add Jesse Ben Avery
- 51:26Junior and and bring on Justin Leroy to talk all about the Van
- 51:31Avery memorial races. They remember Adam and Brad.
- 51:34Brad, we lost over the winter, and I know I was a big fan of
- 51:38Brad. He's a huge reason why I got
- 51:40over to Galesburg, and him and I communicated quite often.
- 51:43And so his support definitely meant a lot to me.
- 51:46So if you're ready, we can bring on Vane, Avery and Leroy.
- 51:49I think that should be like a law firm.
- 51:51Yeah, so let's go ahead. I'm going to, I have two boxes I
- 51:56have to click because we're going to four screens here.
- 51:58So again, welcome Justin, and welcome Jesse Junior to the
- 52:02Monday Night Rewind as we talk the Van Abram Memorial race
- 52:05that's coming up. Obviously sad because you have
- 52:08to have a memorial race, but obviously very important as you
- 52:10remember 2 cornerstones of short track racing.
- 52:14So welcome to the show guys. Thank you for having us.
- 52:19Nope, I don't hear Leroy. But thanks for having me for
- 52:21sure. Oh, yeah.
- 52:23Yep. Can you hear me now, Junior?
- 52:25I can hear you. I don't hear.
- 52:26I don't hear Justin, though. I hear Jesse.
- 52:28OK, well, that. OK, We'll figure out what's
- 52:31going on there. But I guess as long as we can
- 52:34mostly hear each other, Jesse for you, I'll try to pop in.
- 52:37We'll translate from one to the other for you.
- 52:40Perfect, perfect. But you and you can hear boojoo.
- 52:43So that's that's good. We'll do that.
- 52:44Yep. Well, I'm thinking.
- 52:45About what's going. On I'm sorry, I'm not.
- 52:48I'm not leaving, I promise. Oh no, you're good.
- 52:50So again, obviously we have a huge race this Saturday at
- 52:54Galesburg Speedway. This has been rescheduled a
- 52:56couple times. So Justin, why don't we?
- 52:59Yeah, twice. So Justin, why don't we start,
- 53:02you know, with the basics and then we'll bring in Jesse to
- 53:05talk about like the family side of things and everything.
- 53:08So why don't we just for everyone on and for everyone
- 53:10listening, we originally were going to have Justin on this
- 53:13Thursday. As more details are released,
- 53:16there's been some leadership change over at Galesburg and
- 53:19other things going on behind the scenes that this is kind of all
- 53:22coming together fairly quickly. So we won't have all the answers
- 53:26tonight, but I also felt like like if we waited until
- 53:29Thursday, we might miss some people who already then make
- 53:33plans to go to the Indiana Michigan challenge at M40 or
- 53:36whatever it may be. So it felt like let's get on
- 53:38Monday where it's the flagship. You know, we're, we're, I mean,
- 53:42just to be honest too, we have our largest audience of the week
- 53:45most times every every now and then a Thursday episode does
- 53:48throw us off a little bit and and metrics.
- 53:50But you know, let's get the flagship show where we can get
- 53:53all the information out early so that people can start making
- 53:56plans for this weekend. So Justin, why don't we start
- 53:59with a little bit about the basics information that we have
- 54:02now. So that way we can give at least
- 54:07that information out. Yeah, well, first of all, I've
- 54:09got to thank Jesse, his family, his grandma Peggy, Jesse Senior.
- 54:17They reached out to me. We do this a while back, even
- 54:20for even before the separation, the fallout.
- 54:24So I just wanted to sit that right off the bat when we were
- 54:27coming to this race 8 weeks ago, we already had a plan with this
- 54:31has been going on. Amanda Lochner, she's a huge
- 54:33part of this that's people don't know that she's a Van Avery too.
- 54:37So but I just want to get that out.
- 54:39But just to confirm one thing from yesterday when I kind of
- 54:42went out too early, we did have a tire guy.
- 54:45So we will have tires for sale. If you need tires let me know
- 54:49cuz he's going to put an order in tomorrow and he's picking
- 54:52them up Thursday. So I just want to get that out.
- 54:54Hoosier tire 890, what Galesburg's been running all
- 54:57year and the other Kamzu speedways from 890, another
- 55:01tracks from 800 down South. We thought about doing that if
- 55:03we couldn't get tires. So maybe I said we'll sell tires
- 55:07for you. So I got to think Union City
- 55:11speed shop. John called Pete, I called him
- 55:13this morning, 10 O clock. He said he'd do it.
- 55:16So I appreciate him a lot. So.
- 55:19So it's going to be AN80890 tire, 2038 to win.
- 55:25I know already we are at $1000 per second and we have some more
- 55:29money we're going to pay out through the field.
- 55:31Then I'll be probably finalized hopefully tomorrow for sure
- 55:34Wednesday. So it's going to be no soap
- 55:40powder your tires. If you're going to bring old
- 55:42tires, I'll have powder at the tractor and tires.
- 55:44Get them on the track. You want to clean, clean race,
- 55:49read. This is what Brad and Adam,
- 55:52definitely Brad last year he was just, you know, I've been in
- 55:55that guy's shop quite a bit for the last 6-7 years, man.
- 55:58And when we lost him, I mean, I, he just, he was heartbroken and
- 56:03he lost Adam. That's why he went to go.
- 56:06He wanted to go visit Adam. And.
- 56:08This is what it is. I just want to have a good race,
- 56:10clean race. Some other things I want to talk
- 56:13about we're going to do Mr. Jeff Snails reached out to me.
- 56:18He wants to do a front wheel drive showdown board.
- 56:22Cars can open up the rules. No roofs.
- 56:27You can run your boards on the side.
- 56:28Just trying to open up the rules a little bit.
- 56:30You still have to be on their weekly tire.
- 56:33I think it's a 790 or DOTS, no slicks.
- 56:37He is adding some money, $100 each ABC features for front
- 56:42wheel drive and he's going to scatter money out from finished
- 56:44positions to the ABC features. So he could throw some of the A,
- 56:48he could throw some of the B, he could throw some of the C.
- 56:50And there's a skip for in about 7:30.
- 56:52So I told Mike put that out there first.
- 56:55Any front wheel drive guys, if you want to come see how fast
- 56:58your car really is, throw a big old 6 foot board on it, turn
- 57:02left. So but other than that, there's
- 57:05a hard charger award. There's going to be there's
- 57:07going to be a fast qualifier award here today.
- 57:10I currently have 18 cars on my list that reached out to me and
- 57:14I reached out to them. So that's a pretty good field of
- 57:16cars to start for memorial race. I think so.
- 57:19And there's a good, good guys. I got a few guys from Indiana
- 57:21coming up. I appreciate their support.
- 57:23A few other people Everybody supports, man.
- 57:25Just just did this a few weeks ago at Kalamazoo, man.
- 57:28I got love, man. It's just like the Van Avery's.
- 57:32They meant a lot for me. They raced and I know my buddy
- 57:33Zach got me starting the Street Stocks, but that's where I went
- 57:37every after Zach kind of got out of it.
- 57:39He had a kid, you know, I went over the Van Avery's and they
- 57:42built some race cars. And we're going to do this right
- 57:45for Brad because I know he's up there.
- 57:47He's been, he's been waiting all year for it.
- 57:49I know that. Well, again, Brad was such a,
- 57:52you know, huge supporter of short track racing in general,
- 57:55right? And those involved in it, from
- 57:57racers to staff and all that. So I know when everything came
- 58:02down that he was in the hospital and going through everything.
- 58:04And then obviously when we lost, I was like, oh man, you know
- 58:07that that's a that's a gut punch, right?
- 58:09Because he was, he was for everybody.
- 58:12And so obviously, you know, we and then I know you guys lost
- 58:16Adam a few years ago within an, you know, an act, a work related
- 58:19acts. And then obviously that was
- 58:21tough for the racing community too.
- 58:22He had just won the Michigan Cup, you know, the the street
- 58:26stock race there, you know, the previous year.
- 58:28And so it is kind of one of those things that it just shows
- 58:31like how valuable life is, right?
- 58:33Sometimes I know on social media everyone can feel all the things
- 58:36because that's what social media does.
- 58:38And but you know, just again, it shows you though how value
- 58:42everyone is. And sometimes maybe it's not
- 58:44worth getting as mad or angry or whatever that we can get because
- 58:48you just never know. Tomorrow changes a lot.
- 58:50So even today things happen quick.
- 58:52So, so it's one of those that obviously with Galesburg, this
- 58:57has been rained out twice and to do this now, it's at least
- 59:00giving you a little bit of a chance to pull a few more things
- 59:03together. So I know in the past you guys
- 59:04have done, you know, different things.
- 59:06So is there anything that you guys are planning other than
- 59:09payout is, you know, are there other things that you have with
- 59:11this event going on that you're planning to do?
- 59:15Well, I mean race wise, I mean we're.
- 59:19It was supposed to like a raffle before or something.
- 59:21No, I don't think I'm going to do a tire.
- 59:23I mean, I might, I don't know. I just.
- 59:25I'm kind. Of a big part in this man, it's
- 59:27like it's all just coming, you know, so I just you know, I
- 59:30appreciate everybody. Let me do it or whatever track
- 59:32man from anything from the last I don't know I'm just St. stocks
- 59:37a thing, man. It's the premier class in the
- 59:38Midwest, so just keep it all. I mean, there's nothing I don't
- 59:42know. I mean, we're doing madhouse
- 59:46restarts. There won't be no heats for the
- 59:48street stocks. There will be heats for the
- 59:49front wheel drives. We'll probably do single car
- 59:52qualifying for the street Stocks for sure.
- 59:56Front wheel drives. We can't just we had told them
- 59:58that some guys want to do it. Just depends how many cars we
- 1:00:00get. Get 50 cars, we ain't going to
- 1:00:02do it. We get 2530 cars, We'll probably
- 1:00:04do it. We'll see it just, I mean,
- 1:00:06that's what I'm going to tell you.
- 1:00:09Like I said, if anyone needs any 890 tires, I got a tire order
- 1:00:12going in tomorrow at 2:00 PM if you want a set of tires.
- 1:00:16And then if we decided Thursday, maybe we might be able to get
- 1:00:19them, but doubt it would be Thursday or probably have to be
- 1:00:21Wednesday because he's picking them up Thursday.
- 1:00:23He said so. But yeah, I'm glad it's all we
- 1:00:27wanted to keep it going. Steals reached out to me and he
- 1:00:29said he did he want to make sure this race got in.
- 1:00:31And Tammy, even 3 weeks ago when I was there, that's she runs the
- 1:00:36place pretty much. So she reached out to me, said
- 1:00:40we're getting this in no matter what.
- 1:00:41There is a rain date for Sunday. There's another thing.
- 1:00:45And I know too, it's all Galesburg rules apply, right?
- 1:00:48So you know, although most people, if you're if you're
- 1:00:51probably legal at Galesburg, you've probably been legal at
- 1:00:54Kalamazoo throughout the year. You've probably been legal at
- 1:00:57Owasso throughout the year because Galesburg, you know,
- 1:00:59sometimes does get sheet sacks from others.
- 1:01:01But then those Galesburg drivers race at other tracks, right?
- 1:01:04So, you know, generally speaking, the only big race that
- 1:01:08I know that's going on this weekend other than yours would
- 1:01:10be the the Indiana Michigan Challenge at M40.
- 1:01:14So obviously a lot of people can be might be sitting around
- 1:01:17looking for somewhere to go. And obviously Galesburg with
- 1:01:19this race. If you want to talk of a few of
- 1:01:21the names that have sign on because I know you started your
- 1:01:24registration list already for those coming and then we're
- 1:01:27going to turn it over to Jesse Junior.
- 1:01:30Yeah, I got Jesse Junior. I got Jesse Senior, I got Chuck
- 1:01:33Terry. I got Kyle Ribble, Mason
- 1:01:36Montgomery, Logan Maynard, Ty Hall, Derek Giggy.
- 1:01:41I got I I got my list. That's on my phone and I'm on my
- 1:01:44phone. I mean.
- 1:01:46Here. I mean, that's pretty cool.
- 1:01:49A JS kid. I always like Anthony Foote,
- 1:01:51people's foot and people's foot that name.
- 1:01:53So stick with him to the day. I don't like people don't call
- 1:01:55him that, but I know he's that. I mean, I got my I'm trying to
- 1:01:58think I got 18 on my list. I know that.
- 1:02:01Yep, I'm going to cheat for you. I'm going to look for you.
- 1:02:04Since you're on your phone, I figure I can help you out here.
- 1:02:06I just shared it within the last, I don't know, hour, couple
- 1:02:10hours somewhere. You just slide down through
- 1:02:13there. So you have Brent Denton.
- 1:02:14Yep, obviously he's he's getting started together.
- 1:02:17He was 5050. I talked to him today and this
- 1:02:19is him. So he's 5050.
- 1:02:21Yep. So obviously you mentioned Jesse
- 1:02:23senior and junior and then you, you already mentioned Chet,
- 1:02:27obviously Curti T, Curtis Town, Dustin Klein.
- 1:02:30I don't think I've seen Dustin. Yeah.
- 1:02:34Dustin Klein. Yeah, Dustin Klein, I just know
- 1:02:37Realty. I just know that he does the
- 1:02:39Realty stuff. So.
- 1:02:41Oh, that's good. That's his sponsor by the way,
- 1:02:43too. So I'm like, if he doesn't shout
- 1:02:45himself out, then he has not watched the cheap Plug Mondays
- 1:02:48when we do the mankind moment. And then obviously you got Josh
- 1:02:53on there, Todd Hall, Colin Bozell, who I believe took
- 1:02:57second in your point standings over at Galesburg this year,
- 1:03:00Trevor Hoekstra, and I call his car the Bumblebee.
- 1:03:03Now, you'd already mentioned Derek Bo Brady.
- 1:03:08So bow time coming into Galesburg, that's where he raced
- 1:03:12all year and he is, if I recall correctly.
- 1:03:14You're a champion of the 2026 season.
- 1:03:17So obviously, bow time, we'll be able to have some Showtime this
- 1:03:22Saturday. And then, yeah, I know that's
- 1:03:25actually pretty clever. I should actually clip that.
- 1:03:28Kyle Ribble in the 25 who just was battling for the Kalamazoo
- 1:03:33points. And then Danny Payne.
- 1:03:35I don't remember if you mentioned Danny.
- 1:03:37He mentioned me a Sunday. Yesterday you got Logan who
- 1:03:41obviously has won at New Paris. He's won at a lot of places so
- 1:03:44he'll be there. Former two time South Bend Motor
- 1:03:46Speedway check champion and I believe 21 and 22 and then Bill
- 1:03:51Lux will be coming out. And then you just mentioned
- 1:03:55Mason who won the be feature this past weekend at Kalamazoo.
- 1:03:59And then obviously the people's foot, everybody's favorite foot,
- 1:04:03Anthony foot. And that's when he said I want
- 1:04:05an on board camera. I went, this is a street stock
- 1:04:07front wheel drive race. I'm thinking I doubt he's going
- 1:04:10to jump in the front wheel drive.
- 1:04:11But then I saw your entry list and I went, OK, that obviously
- 1:04:15connected everything for me. So.
- 1:04:19Yeah, we'll, we'll get a few more and we won't.
- 1:04:21I mean, we know we won't start in homework.
- 1:04:24We said 22 would be the Max we start in a feature that's a it's
- 1:04:28all about the twos and 22 cars that goes with speed.
- 1:04:30That's a lot of cars, but. Yeah, especially on 1/4 mile.
- 1:04:33I mean, you, well you once you get to 20, you really kind of
- 1:04:36start pushing it. You know, I know sometimes we
- 1:04:40might get a little ambitious with that, but then it's like
- 1:04:42all of a sudden you look and turn when you're like, oh,
- 1:04:44that's why we don't do that. So you know, like that's where
- 1:04:47the pile up happened, right? And where you're like, OK, we
- 1:04:49regret that already, but so why don't we jump really quick over
- 1:04:54to junior since he was able to join us tonight.
- 1:04:56So Jesse, obviously this has your family's name on it.
- 1:05:00You you don't want to be doing a memorial race because that's
- 1:05:03not, you know, how you want to live life.
- 1:05:06But at the moment that's where we are.
- 1:05:07And and obviously they meant a huge deal to everyone in
- 1:05:10Galesburg and obviously being family.
- 1:05:12So if you want to talk a little bit about what it means to you
- 1:05:16to be a part of this race, to be a part of the planning and to
- 1:05:19carry on that Vayne Avery legacy that Brad and then Adam paved,
- 1:05:24Oh boy. Oh, that's a that's a story that
- 1:05:27goes way back. I don't even know where I would
- 1:05:29start. But I mean, of course you'd
- 1:05:32you'd want to for sure carry your own name with a lot of
- 1:05:36pride and everything. So I'm very grateful to be able
- 1:05:39to be brought up in this world of racing and brought up the way
- 1:05:42that I was with my grandpa 'cause I mean, everybody knows
- 1:05:46he was one-of-a-kind of a guy, you know, no matter who you
- 1:05:49were, no matter what happened last weekend, last month, last
- 1:05:52year, no matter what happened whenever, you know, he was
- 1:05:55always the guy that anybody could walk up to and ask for a
- 1:05:57part, ask for help, ask for information, any advice,
- 1:06:00whatever. And he wouldn't, he wouldn't
- 1:06:02turn a cheek ever. He, you know, he's right there
- 1:06:05willing to help, do whatever he can for anybody.
- 1:06:07So, you know, it's that's, that's hard to find in a lot of
- 1:06:10people, especially in a sport that's, you know, can be pretty
- 1:06:13hostile at times, you know, when a lot of people can be at each
- 1:06:16other's throats and it can very easily, you know, the bar can be
- 1:06:19raised, you know, at any given time.
- 1:06:22So and then, yeah, with Adam, he's, I don't think there's
- 1:06:27maybe a little biased, but I don't think there's anybody on
- 1:06:29this planet that near, near in talent as as he was.
- 1:06:33You know, he was the only guy that I've ever, I've ever been
- 1:06:38able to see with my own eyes that could get in literally any
- 1:06:41car in any condition at any given night and instantly make
- 1:06:44it as fast as it's ever going to go, you know, And that that's,
- 1:06:48that's again, that's another rare talent that, you know, a
- 1:06:50lot of people can't just get in and drive anything, you know,
- 1:06:52that you put out there. So, yeah, and then if you want
- 1:06:57to talk a little bit about, you know, your season while we have
- 1:07:00you on because you've jumped in the car quite a bit this year
- 1:07:02too. So while we have you on, you
- 1:07:03know, I call it cheap Plug Monday, right?
- 1:07:05So obviously we're talking about the Van Avery Memorial, but we
- 1:07:08could talk a little bit about you and, and obviously you're
- 1:07:11not going to get Buju to disagree.
- 1:07:12You're not going to get me to disagree.
- 1:07:13And we already know what Justin feels that the Street stocks are
- 1:07:18what I said. I'm gonna disagree with
- 1:07:19everything. No, I'm not.
- 1:07:20Going to Oh, yeah. Oh, OK, Bougie.
- 1:07:23We have it on record. I'm going to say the Street
- 1:07:25stocks are the premier class and we already know that.
- 1:07:27Justin just agreed race car, but he's got some Adam in him.
- 1:07:30I know that for sure. So what is it like for you
- 1:07:34Jesse, to then race? I mean, it doesn't matter what
- 1:07:37track you go to. The Street stocks are the top
- 1:07:40class right now. And so and that's, you know,
- 1:07:44Justin would remember a time when the Street stocks were not
- 1:07:47that, right. And so and that wasn't that long
- 1:07:50ago either. That was the role last said 10
- 1:07:52years ago. So.
- 1:07:53So Jesse, for you, what is it like?
- 1:07:55And if you want to recap a little bit about your season
- 1:07:57while we have you on. So it's not just talk about the
- 1:07:59memorial and kind of being sad about that, right.
- 1:08:01Let's talk about some of the happy stuff.
- 1:08:03And yeah, it shouldn't be sad anyways.
- 1:08:05You know, I mean, you know, things happen in life, but you
- 1:08:08know, we are, we should all be, you know, I guess honored to be
- 1:08:11able to know those two people and to be able to carry on, you
- 1:08:14know, what they what they stood for around, you know, what the
- 1:08:16little world that we have. So but yeah, I, I haven't raced
- 1:08:21as much as I normally do. I'm normally a every Weekender
- 1:08:23type of racer and everything. And grandpa really pushed for
- 1:08:26that. So that's what we, you know, we
- 1:08:27tried to do that all together because, you know, that was
- 1:08:30something we could always all do together every weekend.
- 1:08:32So, but this year I built a brand new car from top to bottom
- 1:08:36that I've been doing for the last couple years and just
- 1:08:41haven't had the luck that, you know, anybody would want.
- 1:08:44Got tore up almost just about every time we took it out, got
- 1:08:48tore up or something broke. So but new car jitters, bugs,
- 1:08:52got it all fixed out. And you know, hopefully this
- 1:08:54weekend we can swap some luck around and put together at least
- 1:08:57a decent finish. If not, maybe take home a
- 1:08:59checkered. So yeah, be that.
- 1:09:02And then I mean, I don't, I haven't really travelled around
- 1:09:05a lot. I've only raced Galesburg and
- 1:09:07Springport a couple times and Kalamazoo.
- 1:09:10And then I was fortunate enough to be, you know, one of the last
- 1:09:13couple guys I got to race, I call a big car AV8 down at
- 1:09:17Montville before they shut down. So that was a, that was a pretty
- 1:09:20good experience. But other than that, I haven't
- 1:09:23had much experience anywhere else.
- 1:09:25I haven't really travelled out of state very much to go racing
- 1:09:28at all. And yeah, we just kind of stick
- 1:09:31local because that's what we're just, we're used to that and
- 1:09:33it's easy and convenient for us. But I, I for sure want to get
- 1:09:37down and maybe try the flagger boy next year and, and do some
- 1:09:40of the some Plymouth racing. And I, I think we got AI have a
- 1:09:43really nice car to be able to go down there and compete.
- 1:09:45So I mean, I'd like to see what we got for sure.
- 1:09:49Well, and and obviously, I mean, Flagler boy is one of those huge
- 1:09:51races around that, you know, some of the big names you don't
- 1:09:55have won and taken home on. So to see if Ann Avery come
- 1:09:58down. I mean, you saw what Jerry did
- 1:09:59to those two Amish country down there.
- 1:10:02He introduced them to the number 27 and and some people maybe
- 1:10:06didn't know who that 27 was, but now they know who that 27 is.
- 1:10:11And obviously at Galesburg you get to see that all the time and
- 1:10:14obviously Justin get to see that all the time over at Kalamazoo
- 1:10:17too. So Anthony dual's been down
- 1:10:19there, Josh has been down there. So, uh, definitely, you know,
- 1:10:22something to maybe put on your, your book there.
- 1:10:25Yeah, for sure. And I mean, it's, uh, it's, you
- 1:10:27know, kind of disheartening when, you know, you get tore up
- 1:10:30every night when, you know, when you got all this time and money
- 1:10:32into these cars. But you know, I mean, I had some
- 1:10:35reassurance, you know, I was only I think 21 hundredths or
- 1:10:39two one thousandths off of making the the a feature at the
- 1:10:41rumble with the first first time, you know, having this car
- 1:10:44out all year for, you know, for not even a full season.
- 1:10:47So I felt that was pretty good. And I I felt we could, you know,
- 1:10:51I ran, I ran from 24th to to 10th, you know, on a on a decent
- 1:10:56night at Kalamazoo. So I felt, I feel we got a
- 1:10:58pretty decent car to go go travel and, you know, possibly
- 1:11:01make a name for myself. I know, I know most people know
- 1:11:04of the Van Averys, but you know, I'd like to get myself out there
- 1:11:07more because we didn't do a lot of traveling.
- 1:11:09But you know, I'd like people to know who we are, what we stand
- 1:11:11for, you know, and kind of what we come from so well.
- 1:11:15And as you said, you know, when you, you know, it's like in
- 1:11:17Northwest Indiana, you got the stremies, right?
- 1:11:20Everybody knows the stremies, but you got to pave your own
- 1:11:22path. Everyone knows the Lawler's
- 1:11:24everyone. You know, you have all these
- 1:11:25names that they know. And obviously coming out of the
- 1:11:28Galesburg area, you have the Van Averys where people know that
- 1:11:31Van Avery name, they know Van Avery Racing.
- 1:11:33But again, it's it's it's not how you can take that legacy and
- 1:11:36keep it going, but how you can plot your own path within that
- 1:11:39legacy. And again, and you have a sharp
- 1:11:42looking car too. So, you know, it's it's got its
- 1:11:45it's got its Dings and dents. But I thought it looks pretty
- 1:11:48good. And I mean, for what it was
- 1:11:50built out of, it's it's a pretty sharp looking car for sure.
- 1:11:53I think so. Thank you.
- 1:11:54I appreciate that. Yeah, as I tell Anthony Jewell,
- 1:11:57it's the street stock. It's not supposed to look
- 1:11:59pretty. It's not, it is not, it's not
- 1:12:01supposed to win the queen, you know, pageant or anything like
- 1:12:04that. Save that for the outlaw late
- 1:12:06models. They can win the queen pageants.
- 1:12:08The street stocks are the rough and rowdy and they don't look
- 1:12:11like they sit in the garage most of the year.
- 1:12:12So you know that's they look like they go out and they bang
- 1:12:15and beat around. And so, but again, the premier
- 1:12:19class right at most tracks in the area and I don't I don't
- 1:12:22think you get a lot of people to to deny that.
- 1:12:25So what are what are you looking at?
- 1:12:27Obviously you took some goals for and so even next year with
- 1:12:30possibly getting down to flagger boy and all that.
- 1:12:32But for this year, are you planning any Super shoe visit,
- 1:12:35Michigan Cup visit? Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:37We, I try to do super shoe every year just because that was the
- 1:12:40thing when I was growing up that my uncle and my dad had always
- 1:12:43talked about, you know, the partying and how it was just,
- 1:12:46you know, it's a good weekend, you know, through and through,
- 1:12:48You know, it's a lot of racing. And I remember there always
- 1:12:51being, you know, big boards and lots of cars and everything like
- 1:12:53that. So I really enjoy being able to,
- 1:12:55to do that now. So I, I, I try to hit super shoe
- 1:12:57every year. And of course, I, I love
- 1:12:59Springport. I love the way Donnie runs it
- 1:13:01out there. I love how nonchalant and laid
- 1:13:03back it is. I I love the racing out there.
- 1:13:05The track's super fun. So yeah, I'll be I'll be at the
- 1:13:08cup. As long as there's a super shoe
- 1:13:09and a Michigan Cup, I'll, I'll always be there.
- 1:13:12All right, so I know we can look forward to that.
- 1:13:14I I know obviously I'll be at super shoe.
- 1:13:16My goal is to be at Michigan Cup, So that's where I got to
- 1:13:19get permission from Donnie. I hope I get that yes, that I'm
- 1:13:22looking for, but I know Justin too, you know, being, you know,
- 1:13:25Jesse Junior just mentioned boards and all that and I and I
- 1:13:30maybe we forgot to say this or maybe you said it and maybe I
- 1:13:32didn't hear it, but I know you posted that front wheel drives
- 1:13:36can do board racing this weekend at Galesburg.
- 1:13:39Yep, Gary, they can take their roofs off.
- 1:13:42They can put, you know, the, you know, boards along the left
- 1:13:45side, you know, that kind of thing.
- 1:13:46So, you know, open up the rules, you know, just you got to be on
- 1:13:49the weekly tire. That's it.
- 1:13:51The Hoosier 790. All right, Yep, because it is
- 1:13:55ABC there. So you know if it if you're
- 1:13:57winning a race with someone like a Matthew LC junior, you know
- 1:14:00what kind of times you need to put or if you want to race
- 1:14:02towards that safe feature, you kind of know that you're going
- 1:14:05to be like a Hornet, you know kind of deal.
- 1:14:07So but the boards are always interesting you know to Curtis
- 1:14:11Town with his board last year when he came out with that board
- 1:14:14for the national compact race. I'm like, Dang, you know, I
- 1:14:17don't, I don't remember seeing them that big.
- 1:14:19But I also then go to Call of the Wild, one that existed.
- 1:14:22And I know there are obviously big boards at Call of the Wild.
- 1:14:24So, yeah, yeah. There won't be any of that big.
- 1:14:27There might be half that size for sure.
- 1:14:29I already seen one SO. Yeah.
- 1:14:33So other than that obviously payout, you know, just to remind
- 1:14:36everyone since we're kind of at a break here.
- 1:14:38Yeah, I know. Like I said, one of his good
- 1:14:41buddies, John Williams, his name, he's got a couple sponsors
- 1:14:45already lined up. He's already told me what
- 1:14:47money's given into the purse. And it's it's half what mine was
- 1:14:51for the Showdown. So that's pretty good.
- 1:14:53Mine was a big number and it's half that.
- 1:14:56So that's still a big number. So I know he's doing a hard
- 1:14:59charger award. I think he's doing a $200 fast
- 1:15:02qualifier award and $150.00 hard charger award.
- 1:15:06So I know that for sure. And the second place is 1000.
- 1:15:09And then he's going to put some money through like 5th, 10th and
- 1:15:13then up toward it from second or from 3rd, 4th, 5th.
- 1:15:16I think third was like 650 or 750 or I was kind of thinking
- 1:15:20probably. So we're all talking about that
- 1:15:22tomorrow, just to give some sneak peeks.
- 1:15:25Yep. So that's why I want everyone
- 1:15:27who's watching understand that we may not have all the answers
- 1:15:29tonight, but that my gut feeling bougie knows about my gut
- 1:15:32feelings. And usually my gut feelings have
- 1:15:34been right and you know, that I felt like, man, if we wait until
- 1:15:39Thursday, do we possibly miss somebody right where, you know,
- 1:15:43the Monday is our flagship show Like so it's like, I appreciate
- 1:15:46you, Justin, being flexible. Obviously Jesse getting on here
- 1:15:48too, being flexible. It's kind of like a hey, Justin,
- 1:15:51I know we talked about Thursday, but here's my thinking, right?
- 1:15:54That using Kenny hat as an example, where when we had him
- 1:15:58on a few weeks ago, we had 50 people watching and last week we
- 1:16:01maxed out like 15 on a Thursday. So it's like, you know, Monday
- 1:16:05is our obviously our our flagship where we have the
- 1:16:08largest audience. So it's like, OK, let's get
- 1:16:10everything out that we can so that as we remember Brad and
- 1:16:16Adam this week and that we can at least from my side, I can
- 1:16:18help try to make it as big as possible, you know, with, with
- 1:16:22the top row ecosystem getting it out there far and wide.
- 1:16:25So we'll, I'll be pushing it all weekend, maybe even tomorrow,
- 1:16:29'cause I'll be done editing by tomorrow.
- 1:16:31If everything goes well, I'll be done editing by tomorrow, the
- 1:16:34reveal race and everything that maybe tomorrow night I play the
- 1:16:38Vayne Abron Memorial from last year, the that feature race,
- 1:16:41which came down right to the wire.
- 1:16:43You know, that was pretty exciting there.
- 1:16:45So so maybe I do that just as another way to promote it.
- 1:16:49So because it's like, let's get as many St. socks as we can.
- 1:16:53I mean, I know only so many can start the A, but obviously with
- 1:16:56your showdown, you had 25, I believe St. socks show up and
- 1:17:00and a lot of St. socks don't have anywhere to go this
- 1:17:02weekend, you know, So you know that Spring Court's not open
- 1:17:07yet, so don't need to be. Spring Court's not in plan.
- 1:17:09Kalamazoo's season champion season championship is done.
- 1:17:12No reason to save the car anymore.
- 1:17:15I know some people have plans because it's Labor Day weekend.
- 1:17:17Yeah, that's the tough. Thing but.
- 1:17:19This is. Schedule of from the beginning
- 1:17:21of the year. So yeah, so, so again, that's
- 1:17:25right. I definitely appreciate you both
- 1:17:26being so flexible and getting on tonight, even though, like I
- 1:17:29said, I know we don't have all the answers.
- 1:17:30So stay tuned to Justin's page. He'll be promoting it out there.
- 1:17:33Stay tuned to AJ Foote. I know AJ Foote has been posting
- 1:17:36things out there. Snails, I don't know what Snails
- 1:17:39is doing. Snails is on here for a little
- 1:17:41bit, but I'm sure follow along with Snails honestly, OK,
- 1:17:44Honestly. Hey from the night of
- 1:17:46destruction. Oh yeah.
- 1:17:48Oh yeah. That's a well and how incredible
- 1:17:51that crowd. I mean this and they had some
- 1:17:53guys lying in, you know. So, you know, let's, let's pack
- 1:17:59the place this Saturday, you know, remembering 2 cornerstones
- 1:18:02of Galesburg. Obviously, again, you know, with
- 1:18:05Brad, I, like I said, I Can't Sing his praises enough.
- 1:18:09I didn't know Adam as much, but you know, Brad was always, when
- 1:18:12are you coming to Galesburg? When are you coming into
- 1:18:14Galesburg? How can we get you to Galesburg?
- 1:18:16What do we need to do to get you to Galesburg?
- 1:18:18And even during the winter, he'd be checking in.
- 1:18:20How's it going or how are you doing?
- 1:18:21And that's just kind of guy he was.
- 1:18:23And so I definitely appreciate who he was as a person and that
- 1:18:27that was really sad. You know, seeing all those
- 1:18:29updates, it's like I just literally had a Facebook
- 1:18:30conversation with him. So, you know, so I that's where
- 1:18:35as soon as I saw this was rescheduled, even though I had
- 1:18:37something on my schedule already, just like last year,
- 1:18:39making room for the Van Abram memorial, you know, changing my
- 1:18:42schedule a little bit because this is important to be at so.
- 1:18:46We appreciate it. Oh, no.
- 1:18:48So I know I'll be there. Obviously, we'll get to see
- 1:18:50Jesse Junior in the car. Justin, I know you have a lot of
- 1:18:53work ahead of you. So again, everyone who's
- 1:18:55watching, stay tuned. Before we do go though, Jesse,
- 1:18:58anything on the closing spot to you guys?
- 1:19:01Yeah, I would just like to say like I I really do appreciate
- 1:19:04Justin and all he does for like our class for the race and
- 1:19:07community and especially like my family aside, I know he grew up
- 1:19:10with my family. So like I I really do appreciate
- 1:19:13everything he does for us. I appreciate you, you know,
- 1:19:16supporting this and, you know, trying to bring some more people
- 1:19:19to this. And I know like we didn't have
- 1:19:21as many people, you know, around us in the community, you know,
- 1:19:25outside of Galesburg as big as Ben Rayburn them did.
- 1:19:27But, you know, I'm trying to build off of last year having to
- 1:19:30add my grandpa to the memorial race is just, you know, it's a
- 1:19:33little bit different of a step, you know, But I mean, we're
- 1:19:36we're going to try to make this and every year thing.
- 1:19:38Snails told me and promised me that, you know, as long as
- 1:19:40there's a Galesburg Speedway, there's going to be a Van Avery
- 1:19:43Memorial. So it can be something that's on
- 1:19:45everybody's schedule every year. And we're going to try to bring
- 1:19:47in big money. We're going to try to bring in a
- 1:19:49lot of cars like I would I would like for this to eventually be
- 1:19:52up next to the, you know, home run race next to the rumble.
- 1:19:56But you know, with money, with car count, you know, and, and
- 1:19:59Galesburg, it gets its bad rap here and there, but I mean, it's
- 1:20:02it's a place that you're not going to find some of the racing
- 1:20:04that you're going to see. You know, it's it's really it's
- 1:20:07it's white knuckle elbows up all the time.
- 1:20:10And you know, when when you got good cars on that track, it
- 1:20:13produces some of the best racing around, no doubt.
- 1:20:15So, but I, I really appreciate the publicity and all of it that
- 1:20:19it's getting and I know it's kind of.
- 1:20:21Kind of a jumbled mess all coming together so quickly, but
- 1:20:24I think, I think this weekend setting up to be, you know, 100%
- 1:20:27perfect. I think it got delayed 2 times
- 1:20:30on purpose, you know, Mother Nature, just, it's all coming
- 1:20:32together perfectly. I think, you know, there's not a
- 1:20:34lot of racing going on this weekend other than M40, which,
- 1:20:37you know, to each their own promote that support that do
- 1:20:40what you got to do. But again, it's, it's, it's nice
- 1:20:44seeing how well it's coming together.
- 1:20:45I'm super excited and I hope everybody, you know, shows up
- 1:20:48has a good time and it's it's good racing.
- 1:20:49So well, let's talk about Galesburg for just a moment
- 1:20:53then, right, because that's the one thing that, you know, I know
- 1:20:56when the first time I went there and I said I was going to
- 1:20:58Galesburg, a lot of people felt a lot of different ways.
- 1:21:01And, and I have never experienced Galesburg in the
- 1:21:04sense where I've been mistreated or disrespected or anything.
- 1:21:08And, and I'm like, and I've been there enough now, you know, if
- 1:21:11it was going to happen, it was going to, I mean, I've
- 1:21:13definitely seen some exciting things, but, you know, beyond
- 1:21:15that, I could see exciting things in a lot of places.
- 1:21:18But that's where like Jerry, come over to Kalamazoo this year
- 1:21:21with the limited late model. I stopped him in the pit area
- 1:21:24and I talked with him at the beginning of the season.
- 1:21:25I said, I'm so excited to have his limited at Kalamazoo.
- 1:21:29I said, cuz there's a lot of people here who probably don't
- 1:21:31know what you can do, but I'm excited to, for you to show
- 1:21:34because it's like Springport, right?
- 1:21:36People kind of discredit Springport.
- 1:21:38And while they only get 7 late models, that's not a lot.
- 1:21:41Yeah. But Jerry Pearman can win
- 1:21:43anywhere. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:21:44And that right. Yeah.
- 1:21:45And that, that's good to see. You know, I like that, you know,
- 1:21:48like I can't speak for every car over there, but it's, it's good
- 1:21:51to see that, you know, them, them the Galesburg cars and the
- 1:21:54Galesburg guys can go somewhere else and be, you know, just at
- 1:21:57the front of the line like everybody else.
- 1:21:58You know, Jerry's got a heck of a caliber of a car and you know,
- 1:22:02and Torch, Torch knows just about everything there is to
- 1:22:05know about racing. And you know, he's he's got a
- 1:22:08lot, he's got a lot going on. You know, he's got a good team
- 1:22:11behind him and whatnot. And they've been, they've been
- 1:22:13going at it for a couple years and everything so deserves a lot
- 1:22:16of times. And and, and so that's where I'm
- 1:22:18glad that you brought that up, you know, with the Galesburg and
- 1:22:21that, yeah, it does have like a, a, a Rep to it, but it's like,
- 1:22:24you know, people just need to go there.
- 1:22:25There's actually a fan there who said, I know we're kind of like
- 1:22:27the new Paris of the North, but we look rough on the outside,
- 1:22:30but we're kind on the inside. And it's, I mean, I get it's
- 1:22:33like full house up there. I get hugs from random people
- 1:22:35who I'm like, I don't even know who you are and you're hugging
- 1:22:37me. And, and they're like, thank you
- 1:22:38so much for coming. I'm like, you're fine.
- 1:22:40Like thank you, you're yeah, you're welcome.
- 1:22:42But and I don't mind it, right. That's why like a Galesburg, I
- 1:22:45get to set up with everybody. You know, we're at Kalamazoo,
- 1:22:48New Paris and others. I'm on the roof.
- 1:22:49I'm by myself in my own world that it's like, you know, just
- 1:22:52get out there. If you haven't been to Galesburg
- 1:22:54in a while, get out there. The racing is fantastic.
- 1:22:57The talent pool that they have at Galesburg, you're not going
- 1:23:00to find out a lot of other places.
- 1:23:01And again, take that from someone who travels around to a
- 1:23:04lot of different tracks and sees a lot of different mix and makes
- 1:23:07of drivers and talents and everything.
- 1:23:09And that this street stock field already, I mean, Kyle rival
- 1:23:13again, second points at Kalamazoo.
- 1:23:15Of course, you got the vane Avery's there who probably know
- 1:23:17just about every inch of that racetrack and probably even
- 1:23:20every pothole. There's a pothole.
- 1:23:22You probably know the the diameter and everything of the
- 1:23:24size of it. And, and you got Mason
- 1:23:27Montgomery. You're going to have a lot of
- 1:23:29drivers there who know their way.
- 1:23:30So before I forget, though, I felt like I've left Buju out for
- 1:23:33like the last hour or so. Buju, any questions for Justin
- 1:23:36or Jesse? Because I know you're a street
- 1:23:38stock lover too. No, I mean if anything I just
- 1:23:41wanted to tag. On to what, Jesse?
- 1:23:43Said and thank Justin for what he does for the Street Stock
- 1:23:45class because I really do think it is the best racing maybe
- 1:23:48anywhere in the country. So yeah, have you been to?
- 1:23:52Yeah, for sure. I have not been to Galesburg
- 1:23:55you. Better, Justin.
- 1:23:57Oh, you better come, you'll experience.
- 1:23:58I have a graduation party Saturday, but I'm going to make
- 1:24:01every. Effort to make it up there next
- 1:24:03year for sure. Awesome.
- 1:24:04Next year for sure. Well, what was that would.
- 1:24:07You have Jesse while Justin was talking there, Sorry.
- 1:24:09Louis. Jesse was trying to say
- 1:24:10something. Oh, I mean, I was just going to
- 1:24:12say again, like did. The money for this race come all
- 1:24:16out of my grandma's pocket and everything, you know, So like,
- 1:24:19you know, what Justin's doing is great.
- 1:24:21He's got some sponsors and everything and a buddy of ours,
- 1:24:24kid John William now Block, he's put in a lot of his own money
- 1:24:29out of his own pocket. Like, this isn't a not a big
- 1:24:31sponsor, big race or whatever yet, and we're still pulling a
- 1:24:34decent amount of cars and a decent amount of money into
- 1:24:36this. So I definitely think it's going
- 1:24:38to be something that not a lot of want to, not a lot of people
- 1:24:40are going to want to miss for sure.
- 1:24:42So, well, that's where Buju can maybe help get some of those
- 1:24:45Northwest Indiana guys already up too.
- 1:24:47I know Justin's been working on them and sending messages, but
- 1:24:50it's just, it's a tire, man. We can't.
- 1:24:52Yeah, I get it. Trust me.
- 1:24:55I tried five years ago with all the. 56 years ago when I mean
- 1:25:01this, you can't get them to get on the same tire.
- 1:25:03We did it for a while. We already had this, I think it
- 1:25:05was 2 years and then it went eight 90s and it's been, I think
- 1:25:09this is year 3 on that. So and then tire orders can go.
- 1:25:14To you then, Justin. Like you just have me.
- 1:25:17Yep. And then I will put them in and
- 1:25:18then the other and then. Pick 20, the other 620 a set and
- 1:25:22then 6. 40 if you use a. Debit card, credit card or
- 1:25:26whatever. So Yep, all right, so again,
- 1:25:30the. Van Neighbor Memorial race this
- 1:25:32Saturday at Galesburg. Gates open at 422.
- 1:25:37Pits open at 2:00. Grandstands open at.
- 1:25:40Three cars can't start until 4. High labs start at 405.
- 1:25:44Racing 6:45 Yep. So pretty much a normal
- 1:25:48schedule. I forgot it's.
- 1:25:49Two in my head, I think because cars can't that Township, right,
- 1:25:53But cars can't start anything until 4:00 or 4:30.
- 1:25:56It's like, I know it's a, we were talking about that with the
- 1:25:59Elkhart County commissioner at New Paris who the, the town or
- 1:26:04the county was going to try to go after New Paris for something
- 1:26:07and that, and he's a commissioner and he stepped up
- 1:26:09and said not a chance because he owns some cars and he raced at
- 1:26:12Michigan International, all that.
- 1:26:14And I said, well, and then we talked about Galesburg.
- 1:26:16I said, well, let me tell you about Galesburg and what they go
- 1:26:19through with their Township. And he just couldn't believe it.
- 1:26:22So, so hopefully that's again, it's people like me who can help
- 1:26:25to, you know, put what places like Galesburg do out there.
- 1:26:28So that way we can maybe have some counter, you know,
- 1:26:31counterpoints to their points, say, hey, you know what, this
- 1:26:34track brings a lot of people together.
- 1:26:35Here's an example of something that's happening on Saturday
- 1:26:38that, you know, especially unique that can unite a
- 1:26:40community and bring bring people around, something that short
- 1:26:43track racing has done for decades.
- 1:26:45So it's like get out of the way. But you're, you know, so let the
- 1:26:48track do its thing. You know, it could be a data
- 1:26:52center or it could be a pot shop or something else.
- 1:26:54And New Buffalo already not Buffalo.
- 1:26:56Buffalo New, you know, down here along state line already has all
- 1:26:59that covered. We don't need more of that,
- 1:27:01right? So, you know, let the track be
- 1:27:02the track, but that's a different soapbox for a
- 1:27:06different day. Yeah, right.
- 1:27:07That's what, that's what we'll get Buju fired up for his
- 1:27:09bleachers and features. And.
- 1:27:11You know, he can have that on a Sunday where he can do a big
- 1:27:13rant on that. But other than that, again,
- 1:27:15reach out to Justin for tires to get that ordered so that when
- 1:27:18you know, you have tires in time because they're getting picked
- 1:27:20up Thursday. So don't be last minute.
- 1:27:22I know racers for last minute. Don't be last minute because
- 1:27:25then you might not get tires and then nobody wants to bring your
- 1:27:28own tires in. But yeah, get a powder.
- 1:27:31Yeah, powdered you got. Powdered you can bring the 90s
- 1:27:34in. But I mean, if you want to fast,
- 1:27:36you want a chance to win, you're going to have to be on new.
- 1:27:38It's just how it is. I mean, Yep, yeah, but
- 1:27:42definitely powder. That way.
- 1:27:43We know whether. They have we'll.
- 1:27:45We'll check them at the races, you know, so.
- 1:27:48Soak up the race right. Soak up the racing action from
- 1:27:51the stands on the. Tires so.
- 1:27:55So again, thank you both for coming.
- 1:27:57On tonight and it obviously anything that you put out Justin
- 1:28:01or, or anything that you can think of, if you need me to help
- 1:28:03share something out, you know, let me know.
- 1:28:05That way we can get as many people in the stands as possible
- 1:28:08and you know, maybe reach out to some cars who may miss your post
- 1:28:11for whatever reason. I mean, your posts are literally
- 1:28:13everywhere. So if they miss it, I don't know
- 1:28:14how, but but you never know. You'd be surprised.
- 1:28:19So so just let me know how I can help you all anything I can help
- 1:28:22push or promote and and information that I can put out
- 1:28:25there. That way we can just canvas it
- 1:28:28as much as possible and and reach every possible person who
- 1:28:31we can as we get ready for remembering to phenomenal
- 1:28:35people. Right, Yes, Sir.
- 1:28:37All right. Well, again, thank you.
- 1:28:39Jesse Junior and thank you, Justin, for both coming.
- 1:28:41On tonight, Yep, thank you. We'll see you for sure.
- 1:28:43I appreciate you guys having me absolutely.
- 1:28:46So again, see you later. So again, we have been talking
- 1:28:51about the Bay Neighbor Memorial that is this Saturday at the
- 1:28:54Galesburg Speedway. So make sure that if you have
- 1:28:58nothing to do or nothing on your plans to come on out to
- 1:29:00Galesburg this Saturday. Not a lot of racing going on in
- 1:29:03the area. The big race, obviously, I know
- 1:29:06Angola has a big memorial race themselves where they're
- 1:29:09honoring people, but I, I can't remember what their classes are.
- 1:29:13I don't look at Angola too much and just to be honest, I'm just
- 1:29:16being honest. And then and then obviously M40
- 1:29:20has their Indiana Michigan Challenge where they have AV8
- 1:29:22class and then AV8 front wheel drive class.
- 1:29:24It look like it doesn't look like they're doing like specific
- 1:29:27classes like they did last year. It looks like it just opened V8
- 1:29:30and then open front wheel drive. But don't quote me, I could be
- 1:29:34wrong state. Just look for Johnny Russell's
- 1:29:37videos 'cause he'll tell me what's going on and and.
- 1:29:41Don't miss him. Though, because they he puts out
- 1:29:43a lot of them. But yeah, he's the most
- 1:29:45efficient content machine in short track racing I think.
- 1:29:47Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I I can't keep up with
- 1:29:50him. Sometimes, yeah, he's
- 1:29:51incredible. But one thing that I.
- 1:29:53Did leave the show open. Usually I.
- 1:29:55Get 3 guests on. But what I wanted to do again as
- 1:29:57a reminder is for any champions from the area, you know reach
- 1:30:01out. I do want to do a champions
- 1:30:03edition of top row top row Monday night rewind and and
- 1:30:08schedule them out. So mini wedges champ cards South
- 1:30:11Bend South Bend into championship.
- 1:30:14No champions of South Bend, so Plymouth.
- 1:30:17Grande Whittemore, wherever. You are if you want to get on
- 1:30:21the Monday Night Rewind, we'll give you a shot.
- 1:30:22Again, we've had if you're in Enumclaw, WA and you want to get
- 1:30:26on the rewind. Championship edition.
- 1:30:28Yeah, well, I try to get. Alec Fett.
- 1:30:30Scheduled but cuz they. Have the Boone Nationals coming
- 1:30:33up, which is huge in Iowa, the Iowa Boone Nationals, right, but
- 1:30:36they're just busy, right and so couldn't get Alec on.
- 1:30:39So I'm hoping to get him on soon just so he could talk about IFC
- 1:30:43modified out and, you know, racing out in Iowa, you know,
- 1:30:46he's a top talent, right? And so so one thing too, I want
- 1:30:50to give a shout out to our marketing partner Elh Detailing.
- 1:30:53If you go to their Facebook page, they resurrected a Jeep
- 1:30:56Wrangler that was infested with mice all over, including dead
- 1:31:00baby mice. That was and all the things.
- 1:31:03So if you want to see a gut wrenching video, that is more so
- 1:31:07gut wrenching, not because it's sad, but gut wrenching because
- 1:31:09like, whoa, like how the hell does something get to that
- 1:31:12point? And excuse the language,
- 1:31:14although I've said worse, but, you know, just go watch that
- 1:31:18video and and see the work that Elhd Tailing does and why I'm so
- 1:31:22honored to have them apart because I could smell the video
- 1:31:28and that's how bad it was. And like a episode of Dirty
- 1:31:31Jobs, huh. Yeah.
- 1:31:32Oh well, I I. Dirty Jobs might have been
- 1:31:34jealous of. This to be quite honest.
- 1:31:36And it might have been it's it this video would have been like
- 1:31:41the American Idol first episode where they put all the bad
- 1:31:44singers on, which would be my episode.
- 1:31:46If I ever went on American Idol, I'd be I'd be the first act out,
- 1:31:50second at. Least but.
- 1:31:53Yeah, go watch that video on ELH shield tailing and also be sure
- 1:31:56to follow because we're going to be doing a marketing special
- 1:31:59where we're going to give away, you don't even buy anything.
- 1:32:02We're going to be giving away free full detail and it's going
- 1:32:06to be simple rules. You just got to follow ELH
- 1:32:09detailing and we're thinking of something that someone can
- 1:32:11comment, you know, just to make sure that they are registered,
- 1:32:16you know, super easy. You don't even have to share
- 1:32:18anything. You're literally just going to
- 1:32:19follow their page. And because they they support
- 1:32:22Madcap Racing and obviously support me, myself and I but but
- 1:32:27again, they do incredible work. You can't tell it on my car
- 1:32:31right now because new Paris had all the dust in the rain and all
- 1:32:34that. And so now it looks like it went
- 1:32:36through a mud bog. But other than that, what I
- 1:32:39thought I we could do two other than those shout outs is I
- 1:32:41thought we can open up the show a little bit.
- 1:32:43One on my store, if you buy AT shirt, you get 1 or you get 140%
- 1:32:51off. I think it was, I forget the
- 1:32:52exact number. I should probably remember that.
- 1:32:54But while we're talking, I'm going to look.
- 1:32:57But you can get a camo T-shirt, a barf T-shirt, whatever it is
- 1:33:04another top row T-shirt. So I want to make sure I checked
- 1:33:06this discount correctly. Yep.
- 1:33:09You didn't see the barf T-shirt. No, I've seen it.
- 1:33:12It's just a That's a funny phrase, A.
- 1:33:14Barf shirt. Oh yeah, the the barf shirt.
- 1:33:18So yeah. 30% off I thought. It was 40, but it's 30% off.
- 1:33:21So if you buy one shirt full price, you get a second shirt,
- 1:33:27which could be the breast cancer shirt.
- 1:33:29Obviously October's coming up, same top row shirt or the barf
- 1:33:36shirt for 30% off. And then you can do that twice
- 1:33:40in the same order. So you could buy like 2 top row
- 1:33:42shirts full price and then you can get, you know, 2 30% off
- 1:33:47each. So it's a stacking discount, no
- 1:33:50discount code needed. It's automatically applied if
- 1:33:52you fill the requirements. So definitely head over where
- 1:33:56you could do that. But if you want a barf T-shirt
- 1:33:58that says I barf a lot, I'm gonna have you seen it?
- 1:34:03I, I believe I have. I can't remember it.
- 1:34:06I can't say yeah. I'm up on the show.
- 1:34:08That's right. I'm gonna pull it.
- 1:34:09I'm gonna pull it. I wanna make.
- 1:34:11Sure. I go to the right page here.
- 1:34:16Hold on. I got to, I got to open up the
- 1:34:18right website spot. It's live TV.
- 1:34:20I know well. Yeah, it's fine.
- 1:34:22That's fine. All right, here we go because I
- 1:34:25closed the link. Because I wasn't going to.
- 1:34:27Share it, but I'll bring it on over.
- 1:34:29So again, the barf shirt. Don't forget while while we're
- 1:34:32here cheap plug Monday because it's mankind Monday.
- 1:34:36If you're looking for full programs for for from 2022 on.
- 1:34:41Obviously I've been updated since Corgan, but there should
- 1:34:43be a few more programs. So I got to do that tonight.
- 1:34:46New program was published shortly before the show.
- 1:34:48But you can watch Michigan Cup, you can watch whatever all the
- 1:34:51way down to Hartford's full season, but on the store here.
- 1:34:55So if you go to the store, you can you can get the barf bag,
- 1:35:00which is everything barf related.
- 1:35:03The calendars are the only thing I sell in person.
- 1:35:05I have those calendars. You can get stickers, electronic
- 1:35:08goods, HomeGoods, hats, apparel. So if you go to apparel and you
- 1:35:11go to adult T-shirts, you can get this camel one which the
- 1:35:16pink I'm going to show the pink, the pink one I saw at Corrigan
- 1:35:20oil Pam had it at Corrigan that it looks way better even in
- 1:35:24person. I it's OK here, but in person I
- 1:35:27went I'm going to have to get my own.
- 1:35:28So I definitely like that one, but barf.
- 1:35:31So this is the barf shirt. I barf a lot.
- 1:35:33I barf a lot. I have seen it, but it's good.
- 1:35:36So bring a race fan so. This is how it could look on.
- 1:35:39You all happy and everything and I mean, he doesn't look like
- 1:35:42he's going to barf anytime soon, but but you know, even if you're
- 1:35:46not just the discriminate that's in a female, she barfed.
- 1:35:49That's what she seated. So yeah.
- 1:35:52She's ready. She's ready.
- 1:35:53She. She's super shoe ready.
- 1:35:56She is ready for super shoe. And so again, if you you
- 1:36:00actually that would be the perfect super shoe one.
- 1:36:04Yeah, it just means something different there, but.
- 1:36:06I I. Had AI had a barf shirt on at
- 1:36:08the at the Dome last? Year.
- 1:36:10This wasn't the top of me. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:36:13But Oh my goodness. In this gracious, but I don't
- 1:36:18know how we recover from that. But hey, if you want a puzzle.
- 1:36:21You can get a puzzle. There you go.
- 1:36:23You can have something that you can barf with a fan and you can
- 1:36:27do a puzzle while you're at it. And it's our cover photo, which
- 1:36:31obviously has Chris Garrett and the the whole team there in
- 1:36:33Galesburg. And then one of my favorite
- 1:36:35photos ever with Aaron Taylor and his both his 20/22/2020 2:22
- 1:36:40cars, Eddie Benjamin pointing at you, making sure that you're
- 1:36:44barfing a lot. And so, so yeah, so there you go
- 1:36:49recover from all that. But yeah, so you can so 30% off
- 1:36:58it ships. So you can use Apple Pay, You
- 1:37:00can do different various things on the store.
- 1:37:04I know Sabrina Bibi ordered something.
- 1:37:05She ordered the key chain, which is like a weapon with her.
- 1:37:08And but, yeah, but you get one of these T-shirts, you put it in
- 1:37:13the in the thing, you put another one in and it
- 1:37:15automatically does 30% off, which actually almost makes it
- 1:37:19or I think pretty sure makes it free shipping.
- 1:37:21So now the only thing I do have to say if you're a Michigan
- 1:37:24resident, there is tax because I have Nexus in Michigan.
- 1:37:27It's getting dark out because I have Nexus in Michigan.
- 1:37:30Indiana, though, if you're an Indiana resident or literally a
- 1:37:32resident of 49 other states, no tax for you because I don't have
- 1:37:35Nexus there. So.
- 1:37:37Well, yeah, I. I there's no.
- 1:37:40Way that I would ever make. I don't even make enough money,
- 1:37:42let's be real, on this store. I've not even made enough money
- 1:37:45in Michigan to have Nexus. But because I had to open the
- 1:37:48store and get a sales license and establish it, which is the
- 1:37:53legal path that I had to take to do that, I'm like, damn, I
- 1:37:58screwed myself. I could have just tried to sell
- 1:37:59under the table like everyone else.
- 1:38:01But with my luck, that's the price you pay for being a good
- 1:38:04boy. Yeah.
- 1:38:05Once I read all the rules and everything like.
- 1:38:08Yeah, but but I'm legal. If anything I'm legal.
- 1:38:12So I'm like, I'll take that. You know, it's better than to
- 1:38:15find myself in a spot where all of a sudden IRS is like we see
- 1:38:19you sold the OR Michigan more than IRS we see you.
- 1:38:21Sold Sold the shirt to. Michigan and you didn't have a
- 1:38:24sales license? I got that now.
- 1:38:26So at least I'm legal, but but I kind of screwed myself by being
- 1:38:30legal. So but yeah, so Michigan, it
- 1:38:32does collect tax on the website. That's the sad part.
- 1:38:35I wish it didn't do that, but the price I tried to do where it
- 1:38:39built in the price and then it was doing something weird on the
- 1:38:41store and went that's stupid too.
- 1:38:43So I'm like whatever, we'll just do it this way.
- 1:38:46So I went to Matt Elsie's page quality graphics and like, how
- 1:38:48do they do it? And so I looked at their stuff
- 1:38:50and I set it up close to what they do.
- 1:38:52So, so again, top row shirts are on there.
- 1:38:55Obviously everything is top row on there.
- 1:38:57But the barbed shirts, you can get the barbed shirt and, and I
- 1:39:01run discounts every week. I just don't advertise them
- 1:39:03every week, but every Monday starts one for a full week.
- 1:39:06So you just never know. But I usually stay consistent
- 1:39:08either 30 to 40% off. I don't I don't go lower than
- 1:39:12that. I figure I hate the fact that
- 1:39:15$20 shirts exist. There is a time in my life where
- 1:39:18I would have like never paid more than $12.00 for a shirt.
- 1:39:21Yeah, my clap there we go. I'm like it wasn't working, but
- 1:39:25still can't the damn thing to stay on the whole time.
- 1:39:27I'm like, whatever, lights on, lights off.
- 1:39:29It's you know, I'm already empty headed enough.
- 1:39:31But oh, congratulations to Caleb Caleb's on here.
- 1:39:36Harrison, he just won at at Kalamazoo last week.
- 1:39:39So gotcha. So and that 44 he's had some
- 1:39:43rough luck this year. So that was exciting, but I
- 1:39:46thought too, other than all that cheap plug stuff that we could
- 1:39:49kind of recap, don't mind the lights going to go off in like 2
- 1:39:51seconds. But I thought we can give a
- 1:39:53chance instead of having a 3rd guest to kind of talk about the
- 1:39:55season and reflect on some things.
- 1:39:57Because I was kind of doing, you know, how like CNN and others do
- 1:40:00like rate sinks, false or negative or whatever maybe.
- 1:40:04So the one thing I thought, you know, at the beginning of the
- 1:40:06year, I said that the late model class at Kalamazoo, the template
- 1:40:10late models were probably going to be the most wide open.
- 1:40:13With all the retirements and move UPS that we have, and I
- 1:40:16think I was pretty correct on that.
- 1:40:18Oh yeah, I would agree. Yeah.
- 1:40:19I mean, Mason came out of nowhere.
- 1:40:21Huge kudos to him. And oops, damn it, it's not
- 1:40:26working. I gotta don't mind me, it'll
- 1:40:28bounce house over here like UCF. It's not even gonna turn on now
- 1:40:31'cause it knows that I want it on.
- 1:40:33But anyways, do this with the lights there.
- 1:40:36But but that class and you know, it came down to them and Jared,
- 1:40:39but that was pretty wide open. I mean, you had obviously Kenny
- 1:40:43had stepping out, Billy Shannon stepping out, breast racing in
- 1:40:45general, stepping out. But you know, Jared step, you
- 1:40:48know, kept that tradition. But you know, a lot of names
- 1:40:50that opened up the chance for others.
- 1:40:53So I thought that was pretty exciting.
- 1:40:54And then the limited late were that we didn't get as many as we
- 1:40:57thought, but they were exciting too.
- 1:40:59Jared Pearman, you know, made the big jump, won the Galesburg
- 1:41:02championship. But I was kind of thinking, what
- 1:41:04stands out to you now that most championships have been decided?
- 1:41:07You know, what stood out to you this race season?
- 1:41:09Now that we're going into postseason racing, I feel like
- 1:41:14and maybe. This is me being the the ever
- 1:41:18racing optimist, but I feel like we're gaining positive momentum
- 1:41:22back in the right direction for the sport.
- 1:41:24I feel like we're kind of out of we never really bounced all the
- 1:41:28way back from COVID and we're kind of car counts are dipped
- 1:41:31and fan counts still aren't great in a lot of in a lot of
- 1:41:33cases. But I feel like we're in a
- 1:41:35better spot at this point this year than we were last year as a
- 1:41:39sport. Maybe I'm wrong on that.
- 1:41:41Maybe I'm just being optimistic and finding the silver lining
- 1:41:43and talking myself into it, but I don't know.
- 1:41:46I feel like we're in a better spot.
- 1:41:47And to me that's, I mean, that's obviously good news for all of
- 1:41:49us. The only thing that I wish so
- 1:41:52and think about that I think. Like, let's use new pairs, for
- 1:41:55example, right? They get crapped on in all the
- 1:41:58different ways possible, just like other tracks.
- 1:42:01I mean, M40 now gets crapped on so that honeymoon is well over.
- 1:42:05Obviously Kalamazoo gets crapped on in different ways, but then
- 1:42:08there's also the excitement too and the positive praise net for
- 1:42:10each of these facilities. But you know, let's kind of like
- 1:42:13start a new pairs, right? Our street stock class got
- 1:42:16crapped on for a little bit, even though the talent was
- 1:42:19there, but the numbers weren't there right?
- 1:42:21People looked at in fact, there's someone who commented on
- 1:42:23Charlie Hannah's post the other day.
- 1:42:25He screen recorded one of my heat races and and someone on
- 1:42:29there in the comments, only six cars.
- 1:42:31It's a heat race. The graphic even says heat race.
- 1:42:34It's like 1. You just want to bop those
- 1:42:36people ahead with a frying pan and see if you can cook them
- 1:42:38into another year. But although that would be
- 1:42:42assault, which we don't advertise, but but either way, I
- 1:42:45think people get the sentiment like some of those people you
- 1:42:47just want to do whatever with and not like physically like
- 1:42:51permanent damage, but like hit him in the head a little bit.
- 1:42:54Like it's 20261942 left a long time ago.
- 1:42:58There's not 80 late models anymore.
- 1:43:01There's not 80 outlaw late models that are going to show up
- 1:43:03on the property. You're going to get 20 to 30.
- 1:43:06That's what you're going to get. It's time to move on and live
- 1:43:08with it. Like that's what it is.
- 1:43:10And where's your car? You didn't even have a car.
- 1:43:13But I can't afford a car. If you're talking, I mean.
- 1:43:15If you're talking Outlaw Late models, I mean.
- 1:43:17You're getting, you're lucky to get 20 or 30 this year if you're
- 1:43:20looking a couple years down the road.
- 1:43:21Realistically, I don't even know that.
- 1:43:23Yeah, I don't know that we're getting any anymore, to be quite
- 1:43:26honest. It's going to be tough, right?
- 1:43:28And, you know, just the money. Matt Fraser was one of the ones
- 1:43:32who said, you know, payouts are going to have to start being
- 1:43:34this. And you're like, that's what the
- 1:43:35purse is now you know the whole purse and no, but with that,
- 1:43:40right, it's, it's one of those things that I sometimes it's the
- 1:43:43social media thing that we said this a few weeks ago.
- 1:43:48The supporters are the ones who are silent, right?
- 1:43:51The supporters support. They don't need the accolades.
- 1:43:53They don't need the spotlight. They don't need to tell everyone
- 1:43:55that they support. They just show up and they just
- 1:43:58do or they let you know in person, hey man, love what you
- 1:44:01do or hey, you're such a great racer.
- 1:44:03Support you. It's the ones who go to social
- 1:44:05media, which seems like the vocal majority and they're not
- 1:44:08right. They're the grand, they're the
- 1:44:10minority, but they're the ones that are advertised because
- 1:44:13they're the ones in the comments section.
- 1:44:15And good Lord, you know, you get the you get people rallying
- 1:44:18around that person and they start piling on even more.
- 1:44:22And so that's where let's look at new pairs, right?
- 1:44:24Our street socks got piled on. And then look at the end of the
- 1:44:27year 1717, they had 17 against the biggest show in Northwest
- 1:44:31Indiana, the highest paying show in Northwest Indiana, and they
- 1:44:35had 17 up against that, right? And then they had a huge flagger
- 1:44:39boy count. They didn't get the 70 a few
- 1:44:41years ago. But I said it's just not going
- 1:44:44to happen. That was great.
- 1:44:46It's just not the reality anymore in it.
- 1:44:49I'm like, if you get in the 40s, that's going to be good you.
- 1:44:52And at the end of the day, you just need 2A features.
- 1:44:55If you don't need AB feature, B feature would be great, but you
- 1:44:58don't, you don't need it, right? It's it's cherry on top, right.
- 1:45:03And so look at that. Our championship night at new
- 1:45:05pairs, 17th St. socks once again showed up and it's like it kind
- 1:45:09of went and then it went up again.
- 1:45:11And you know, I think people sharing their positive thing,
- 1:45:14you know, Kalamazoo, we finish with the B feature.
- 1:45:16Like we started the year with the B feature, but we didn't
- 1:45:19have a street sock B feature most of the year, right?
- 1:45:21We'd start 24 or so, you know, and so that's some of the things
- 1:45:25and I see Tina Lewis on here is, you know, I think we need a lot
- 1:45:29of fan specials next year. Wear a color and get in for $10
- 1:45:32Corgan oil. I don't want to spoil
- 1:45:34everything, but they're talking about, you know, possibly
- 1:45:36changing ticket prices and doing some different things with that,
- 1:45:40doing different kind of shows and and trying to find ways to
- 1:45:44bring people in. But you know, even Tina Lewis
- 1:45:46again, sharing bring a ticket from another track the week
- 1:45:48before. That's what I love.
- 1:45:50What Hartford did with the business Good Enough Pub and
- 1:45:54Niles, they had a sponsor who jumped in where, hey, if you
- 1:45:57bring this ticket to our establishment, you get this much
- 1:45:59off of an appetizer. So then you had people going
- 1:46:02that way, but then you had people from Good Enough Pub
- 1:46:05going up to Hartford giving it a shot because they wanted that $2
- 1:46:08off the appetizer. And and again, I know that's
- 1:46:11probably easier said than done. And I'm sure there's someone
- 1:46:14listening right now. Well, we did that two years ago
- 1:46:17and here's what happened. And it's like, I get it.
- 1:46:19Like sometimes it's effort. You know, a lot of these tracks
- 1:46:21don't have they're not Berlin and they're not Owasso who has
- 1:46:24full time people all the time working.
- 1:46:26They're not right. Like Berlin has a solid group of
- 1:46:29people who Berlin is their big focus most of the year.
- 1:46:33They can do all these things and they have they have the finances
- 1:46:36to do that. Owasso obviously with Rex has a
- 1:46:39great support system. That's nothing and against them,
- 1:46:41but that's not reality at Kalamazoo.
- 1:46:43That's not reality at M40, that's not reality at New Paris.
- 1:46:47And I also dislike when people compare those tracks to a Berlin
- 1:46:50and to an Owosso. They don't have the same
- 1:46:53infrastructure and they definitely don't have the same
- 1:46:55finances behind them, right? They they just don't, right?
- 1:46:58And so it's like comparing to Mansfield, I bet Mansfield has
- 1:47:02more resources than Owosso, you know, and Owosso has a lot,
- 1:47:05right? And but Mansfield has NASCAR
- 1:47:08money and but even that's expensive, right?
- 1:47:10They're they, they're going to have only so much to do and they
- 1:47:14can't lose money either. And so it's one of those things
- 1:47:17that that's the aspect that I feel like you're right that, you
- 1:47:20know, it's kind of taking a turn.
- 1:47:22You're starting to get some momentum, but it's the I'm not
- 1:47:26blaming it all on social media, but it's like, I knew it was
- 1:47:28Sunday yesterday because I of everything from Saturday, you
- 1:47:33got to read it. And I'm like, I'm, I'm over
- 1:47:35this. I've blocked two people on my
- 1:47:38page and I haven't felt happier since.
- 1:47:41Yeah, I, I skipped, skipped to my loo.
- 1:47:44The one challenge to me said, I hope you keep your promise done,
- 1:47:48promise kept. And I sang Ding Dong the whole
- 1:47:51time too. I was so excited for that.
- 1:47:54I shouldn't have advertised that by the way, but I was tired of
- 1:47:57them. Tired of them.
- 1:47:58They're done and any family member that wants to join them,
- 1:48:01all you got to do is comment and I will make it happen so fast.
- 1:48:04You won't sneeze and and and get a tissue at the same time.
- 1:48:08So I'm I'm waiting as soon as they comment done blocked,
- 1:48:13you're next. It's like Goldberg who's next
- 1:48:16and everyone in the family is in line.
- 1:48:18So just challenge me and it will happen.
- 1:48:21But because I'm tired of it. It's a drama.
- 1:48:23Get over it. But but anyways, I want to go
- 1:48:26back on the positive note. You know, I'm excited for
- 1:48:29Springport to come back. You know, I think that's been
- 1:48:32the talk of the town, you know, this year.
- 1:48:34And how many times do we get to say track comes back?
- 1:48:36Look at South Bend. Obviously South Bend and I have
- 1:48:39a lot of feelings for each other that, you know, are not maybe
- 1:48:42the most exciting. They're, oh, they're exciting.
- 1:48:48Maybe for others. Not for each other perhaps, but
- 1:48:51but kudos to them right it's a that track could be a Dollar
- 1:48:54General right now, the bigger super sized ones and it's coming
- 1:48:58back right. You know 'cause I don't want to
- 1:49:00see it close. No, I sure don't either.
- 1:49:03No, you. Know we we need tracks, right?
- 1:49:06We need. Places to go We need places for
- 1:49:08people in the community cause what I think people miss out on
- 1:49:11when you talk to someone about short track racing I always used
- 1:49:15to tell people and it's still true to this day short track
- 1:49:18racing was my escape from the everyday I went to the racetrack
- 1:49:23to. Get away from.
- 1:49:25Getting physically assaulted at my job all the time, getting
- 1:49:29stabbed, being put in the ER, whatever it may be.
- 1:49:32Like a lot of people, people who know my previous job knows the
- 1:49:36challenges that I went through, but people who don't, don't
- 1:49:38understand the amount of physical and emotional and
- 1:49:43mental things that I went through in that kind of job.
- 1:49:47So short track racing was something I look forward to
- 1:49:50every Saturday, Friday when Fridays came around for me, but
- 1:49:53Saturday because it's like I could go to the racetrack.
- 1:49:56I didn't have to think about it. I was at the racetrack.
- 1:50:00And even when some of my job related people came to the
- 1:50:05racetrack, they knew at the racetrack.
- 1:50:07We've talked racetrack. We didn't talk about Monday
- 1:50:09through Friday. We talked about the racetrack
- 1:50:12and our love for racing. And I think that's where a lot
- 1:50:16of people even thinking about, you know, what Galesburg goes
- 1:50:19through with the Township and all that.
- 1:50:21It's like, do you not realize for a lot of people what short
- 1:50:24track racing does? Short track racing can save a
- 1:50:27lot of people, you know, and it's.
- 1:50:32Family. I mean, think of how many
- 1:50:33people? Are probably closer to others at
- 1:50:36the racetrack and consider them family more so than even real
- 1:50:41family that they actually share blood with me.
- 1:50:44I mean, obviously. I am close with my my brothers
- 1:50:49and mom and all them are involved in racing, obviously,
- 1:50:52but there's definitely people at the racetrack I'm that I've met
- 1:50:55through racing that are much more family than some of my
- 1:50:58extended family, you know what I mean?
- 1:51:00And I mean, that's not against anybody, but I, there's dozens
- 1:51:05of dozen or more people in my life that I couldn't imagine not
- 1:51:09being around. And that's all through the race
- 1:51:11track. So yeah, well, and I think
- 1:51:13that's where, you know, like I. Always tell people and you know
- 1:51:16this too, when it's video time, I'm neutral as soon as the
- 1:51:20first, well, from the time I get to the track to the last
- 1:51:24checkered flag neutral, right. You know, internally I might be
- 1:51:28rooting someone on, but I I want it to be a great race.
- 1:51:32I want the race to be decided on the track.
- 1:51:34I don't want the official to have to make the decision that
- 1:51:37went to race or whatever. Like I want it decided on the
- 1:51:40track, right? That's where it should be
- 1:51:42settled, not in the pit area, not on the front stretch or
- 1:51:46whatever. Like not in tech.
- 1:51:48Let's decide it on the track. But then afterwards, like I
- 1:51:52think of Scott and Amanda, right?
- 1:51:54I'm so excited when I found out that Amanda's pregnant and, and,
- 1:52:00and that I was one of the first to find that out, right.
- 1:52:03And Angie Ritter, who you know, I get to connect with all the
- 1:52:06time. I think of her, Liz Edwards,
- 1:52:09Billy Edwards, Billy Edwards and I have a special thing between
- 1:52:11each other that I look forward to every time that I get to see
- 1:52:15him. And, and it's something that,
- 1:52:18you know, that's our thing. KTS we fist bump before every
- 1:52:22race on Friday nights when they're walking the track and
- 1:52:24I'm walking the track, we meet at some point and we fist bump
- 1:52:27and they say be safe tonight, be safe tonight, be safe tonight to
- 1:52:29all of them. And that's like a special thing
- 1:52:32that I look forward to that, that I that fills my.
- 1:52:38Bucket. You know if you.
- 1:52:39Talk about bucket filling. And and that's something that,
- 1:52:43you know, there's a lot of people who I'm close to at the
- 1:52:47racetrack that I look forward to, you know, Louis Lorkey and
- 1:52:51Nancy Lorkey. I always love when I'm around
- 1:52:54the Newmans. Anyone from Springport.
- 1:52:55I mean, I just feel a different way.
- 1:52:57I feel relaxed. And yeah, I'm, you know, that's,
- 1:53:00that's a lot of what this weekend.
- 1:53:02Was for me and I know we don't talk about South Bend a lot on
- 1:53:04the show, but we're in conversation.
- 1:53:06It's pair game on Monday, but. And I mean you I've.
- 1:53:11I've sung the praise. You know how much I love M40
- 1:53:13Speedway. I'm I have nothing but a good
- 1:53:15thing to say about M40. You know how much of a good time
- 1:53:17I had at at new Paris this year. I love new Paris and the people
- 1:53:20that work there. But being back at South Bend,
- 1:53:23you talk about bucket filling. It's it's such a feeling of this
- 1:53:26is what this is where it's supposed to be.
- 1:53:28It's home. It it fills my bucket, I guess,
- 1:53:32as you say. And yeah, like I think everybody
- 1:53:36has that. I mean, if you look at Bill
- 1:53:38Russell's in the chat right now when he was on the show before,
- 1:53:40they mentioned they were after Mottville before they got their
- 1:53:43hands on M40. And I'm sure it's worked out
- 1:53:45great for them. But I'm sure if they could go
- 1:53:46back, it's still like Mottville if they could.
- 1:53:48Everybody has their home. And as these homes go away and
- 1:53:52maybe they don't even go away, but they change hands and things
- 1:53:54change there and things change over time, it doesn't feel like
- 1:53:58home as much. And.
- 1:53:59That's why a lot of. People like Andy said in the
- 1:54:00chat, Drew said in the chat a little bit ago.
- 1:54:02People are just leaving racing. So in a lot of cases, I think
- 1:54:06we're failing to fill people's buckets.
- 1:54:08I think we forget that this is supposed to be fun and this is
- 1:54:10supposed to be a community and this is it's not supposed to be
- 1:54:14another job or another business and it's not supposed to be high
- 1:54:18school with the with the drama. A lot of times, as you
- 1:54:20mentioned, I I feel like we lose sight of a lot of a lot of
- 1:54:23things in this in racing at a lot with this is our perspective
- 1:54:29on things. And being back at home for South
- 1:54:31Bend at South Bend this weekend put a lot of things in
- 1:54:32perspective for me. So I guess that's how that ties
- 1:54:35all together there. But yeah, it's a it's an
- 1:54:38interesting conversation to have because it's there's no good
- 1:54:41answer for any of it, but right. Yeah, it's all.
- 1:54:44It's all of our happy place and we're all.
- 1:54:46Working to. Try and make it better, right?
- 1:54:49Well, I think The thing is that. You and I've had this
- 1:54:53conversation. I've had this conversation with
- 1:54:55Bill Russell, Penny Russell, who I just I adore Penny.
- 1:54:59I mean I I absolutely love Bill by the way, I wanted to feel
- 1:55:02like, Oh, I see that is but like Penny Russell, there's one day I
- 1:55:06same family. I was so stressed at M40 that
- 1:55:09she brought me one of their Oh, what was it?
- 1:55:13Slushies or whatever it was that they were doing their mixer, ice
- 1:55:17cream mixers, that out of the kindness of her heart, she said,
- 1:55:21I'm I'm gonna go make you something because she knew I was
- 1:55:23stressed. And it's like, this is not
- 1:55:26supposed to be stressful. They're supposed to be stressed
- 1:55:28because if you're not stressed, you're dead, by the way, like,
- 1:55:31so you need stress. You're like when people are
- 1:55:32like, well, I just, I just wish there's no stress.
- 1:55:34So you don't want to wish that because if there's no stress,
- 1:55:37then you're literally dead. Just so you know, like that's
- 1:55:40how that works. So you need some kind of stress
- 1:55:42in your life. Yeah.
- 1:55:44But there's also too much stress, which could also kill
- 1:55:47you. But but it's one of those things
- 1:55:49that, you know, I know you saw my Tracy Tots Tots.
- 1:55:55And right, like, she didn't have to do that.
- 1:55:59They didn't have to do that, but they Chris did like the
- 1:56:03principal thing and called me to the track office.
- 1:56:06I'm like, what did I do? Did I make anyone mad?
- 1:56:08I know I said that I hate hate that I hate heat races and am I
- 1:56:11gonna get in trouble because I said I hate heat races and I
- 1:56:14wish we did features only. Like I'm just thinking like,
- 1:56:16well, that's not the worst thing I could say.
- 1:56:17I could say a lot of other things that would be far worse,
- 1:56:20but but I didn't, right. So I'm walking there at I was
- 1:56:23just getting ready to mount cameras on Matt Frazier's car
- 1:56:26and Mark Schrick's car. And then I got Mark, but not
- 1:56:28Matt. So I had to come back.
- 1:56:30But then my heart's thumping the whole time because I'm like,
- 1:56:32what did I do? Did I, you know, because he
- 1:56:34sounded serious, right? And so, you know, I'm walking up
- 1:56:37and I first I went to the pit office because I was again, I
- 1:56:40was so like worked up that I went to the pit office.
- 1:56:43I didn't even go to the right spot.
- 1:56:44And I'm like, well, they're not in here.
- 1:56:45So now I got to wait, make the walk a shame to the track
- 1:56:47office. And I'm walking to the track
- 1:56:49office thinking like, OK, this is it.
- 1:56:51My butt's going to get chewed out.
- 1:56:52Something's going to happen. I walk in, Tracy's around the
- 1:56:56corner with the big smirk. I'm like, OK, is that the smirk
- 1:56:59before she chews someone's ass out?
- 1:57:01Or is that the smirk that she's like in a good mood?
- 1:57:04Because I don't know, like it's. And Chris had his serious look
- 1:57:08on. So I'm like, OK, And he's
- 1:57:10telling me to sit down, but Tracy has like that look on her
- 1:57:13face where I'm like, OK, I think we're safe.
- 1:57:17Well, kind of I. Mean.
- 1:57:18She was smiling. But it's again though, sometimes
- 1:57:21before people pop off right, they look happy and then before
- 1:57:24you know it, 10 seconds later she still could be holding a
- 1:57:27knife like. Holy moly.
- 1:57:31I've never had my butt chewed out like.
- 1:57:33That ever in my. Entire life, I knew it was
- 1:57:35coming at some point and I finally got it right.
- 1:57:38And then she goes, we know that you're going to miss and she
- 1:57:41pulls out the tots. Minnie was so excited.
- 1:57:43She's like, was there enough cheese?
- 1:57:45Was there enough sour cream and and where the fries good, where
- 1:57:48the tots good? And that the fact that they did
- 1:57:50that right, that something above and beyond that they didn't have
- 1:57:55to do. They didn't have to care.
- 1:57:56They didn't have to do that. So I think even sound like Penny
- 1:57:59having that like again, taking moments of stress or taking
- 1:58:03moments of whatever. Like obviously, no, I shared
- 1:58:05before that we had a dog pass away and we have another dog
- 1:58:08who's has terminal cancer now. And we have another dog who went
- 1:58:12from happy go lucky to basically like paralyzed all within a
- 1:58:15month of each other, right? And month and a half.
- 1:58:18And it's like one thing after another after another.
- 1:58:20It's like, you know, there's just things going on in life and
- 1:58:24other stuff that goes on where it's like the racetrack
- 1:58:26continues to be that escape. And so I think sometimes that's
- 1:58:29what we forget because we're only a few weeks away from
- 1:58:31everyone going, man, I miss it, man, I miss it.
- 1:58:34But then it's like, OK, but then your Sunday post made it seem
- 1:58:37like it was the worst thing in your life.
- 1:58:40And and I think that's. Sometimes.
- 1:58:42That's why I called. The 48 hour rule where where I
- 1:58:45was going with this is that sometimes I like to type stuff
- 1:58:48in notes or I'll type it in an empty text message that goes to
- 1:58:52no number. It's just empty because I need
- 1:58:54to type it somewhere. I'll go to Google Word document
- 1:58:57and I'll type whatever I need to type whatever I need to say, get
- 1:59:01it out. And then I wait 48 hours from
- 1:59:03that. And if after 48 hours I feel the
- 1:59:06same way or whatever, it might be the same, then I might go
- 1:59:11back, fine tune it, do some editing, make it look
- 1:59:15professional and not just basically we're vomiting.
- 1:59:19Or in that case I call it finger vomit because I'm typing it
- 1:59:22right. And and that does, that doesn't
- 1:59:24mean anything else. That's just typing.
- 1:59:26And for someone and they're going, that's a funny, but it's
- 1:59:30like, that's what I call it. And then I might send something
- 1:59:33that's professional, right? And, you know, but 48 hours,
- 1:59:37that's what I wait, you know? And so I feel like sometimes,
- 1:59:40you know, when you're in the heat of the moment and you go
- 1:59:42right to Facebook looking for sympathy, looking for whatever
- 1:59:46it's like, OK, but what damage have you done?
- 1:59:48Because once it's out there, it's out there, it doesn't
- 1:59:49matter whether you delete it. It doesn't matter whether
- 1:59:52someone has already screenshot it.
- 1:59:55Someone already has a screenshot.
- 1:59:56The second was posted. It got screenshot by somebody.
- 1:59:59Yeah. Especially if you're talking
- 2:00:00about a racetrack or something within the racing.
- 2:00:02World Somebody saw it and somebody sent it to somebody
- 2:00:04else and then they sent it to somebody.
- 2:00:06Yeah. It's already out there, right?
- 2:00:09And and so that's that's the thing that it's like, yeah, you
- 2:00:12said all that, but now look at what we did or in the comment
- 2:00:15section. Yeah, you said all that that and
- 2:00:17you can delete your comments and you know someone who's really
- 2:00:19good at deleting comments and playing victim, but it's like,
- 2:00:22but the screenshots don't lie. It's already exists.
- 2:00:24It's already there. And so you can't undo it, right.
- 2:00:28You can't say, well, you didn't say that.
- 2:00:30You did. You did say it.
- 2:00:33I didn't mean it that way. You did.
- 2:00:37You meant it that way. You doubled down, you know, you
- 2:00:40didn't cut back. You went, you still went for the
- 2:00:42jugular. And I think that's the thing
- 2:00:44that, you know, when you see this positive stuff, it's like,
- 2:00:48you know, just think, how can we help like change your mindset?
- 2:00:52Like, yes, you know, there are things like CRA a year ago
- 2:00:55August 30th or yesterday, August 30th, I was the most furious
- 2:00:59I've ever been at Kalamazoo. Mm hmm.
- 2:01:01You know, it wasn't my fault that.
- 2:01:03That Racing America. Stood up CRA or however that
- 2:01:06went down all's I know CRA was supposed to be there to cover
- 2:01:09the CRA race and they weren't and so then I was asked to do
- 2:01:12it. I didn't have all the materials
- 2:01:14to do it. Thank you Cody Geyer for bailing
- 2:01:16out and bringing cord so we can hook into all your system and
- 2:01:19thank you to know a long year. I know he's with the
- 2:01:21competition, but you know, I will praise that guy to all in
- 2:01:26because he's he's phenomenal at what he does.
- 2:01:29And you know, I'm a big thing on that.
- 2:01:30Like, it doesn't matter whether you like someone or dislike
- 2:01:32someone or whatever. I like them.
- 2:01:33By the way, just to clarify that too, but it doesn't matter.
- 2:01:35You should respect someone for what they do.
- 2:01:38Give them the credit where they deserve.
- 2:01:39You don't have to send them a Christmas card.
- 2:01:41You don't have to invite them to a birthday party, but give them
- 2:01:44credit where credit is due. And for Noah, if it weren't for
- 2:01:49him and I working for four hours to get that audio to where it
- 2:01:54needed to be because I didn't just settle for well, it's just
- 2:01:57a little this. No, that's like my brand's on
- 2:02:00the line and and you know, like my brand.
- 2:02:04'S on the line. I'm not.
- 2:02:05Settling like this is my brand, this might be my first
- 2:02:08opportunity or impression on somebody and thinking audio
- 2:02:11that's crappy. That's the first comment.
- 2:02:13Well, who's in charge of the audio?
- 2:02:16Yeah, well, obviously not you. But.
- 2:02:19Noah, right? He didn't even come to work for
- 2:02:21them. He but he was coming as a fan.
- 2:02:24His first time in Kalamazoo, he got roped into all of this.
- 2:02:26I don't even know if he ever got paid for it.
- 2:02:28He should have. I know I didn't, but he should
- 2:02:30have been paid. You know, recent American
- 2:02:32videographers make $300.00 an event.
- 2:02:34I didn't get $300.00 for that. I got $0.00 for it and but I
- 2:02:39didn't get all my on boards out there because I was stuck on the
- 2:02:41roof. So like top row stuff for
- 2:02:44Kalamazoo got severely impacted. I was so mad and stressed that
- 2:02:48whole time. But at the end of the day, once
- 2:02:50it all worked and it all came together and Noah did the fine
- 2:02:54magic thing after I gave him more feedback during the
- 2:02:56autograph session, It's like then there, that became my goal.
- 2:03:00I want audio because if all this and now I'm my own audio guy,
- 2:03:05but it's so if the audio does suck, it's my fault because I
- 2:03:08can only blame me now. On Saturday, I could blame Mike
- 2:03:11Michael McIntyre because I hooked it to his system.
- 2:03:13Thank you to him. He logged me in his system, so
- 2:03:16the same audio feed that went to Racing America went to Topper
- 2:03:20Racing Media at the same time. So thank you to Mike Michael
- 2:03:23McIntyre for allowing me to do that.
- 2:03:25He's a super professional. I love watching his old videos
- 2:03:28from all over. Oh, yeah.
- 2:03:29I, I fall asleep to Michael's YouTube very often.
- 2:03:32Yeah. I, I was telling him like, I,
- 2:03:34you know, I hope to be. Like his stature someday.
- 2:03:37And he said don't, don't work too hard towards it.
- 2:03:40But you know, he's an incredible person.
- 2:03:42He's a great videographer and and flagman now.
- 2:03:46I mean, he does a lot of things, but that's where like right then
- 2:03:49and there, even though August 30th was a pain in my royal butt
- 2:03:52and I that was the most stress I've ever been at a racetrack
- 2:03:55where I was ready to be done. I sat on the roof so defeated
- 2:03:59where I'm like, I quit. I'm done.
- 2:04:01This is it, you know, this is all the stress going into, OK,
- 2:04:06these guys are expecting Racing America quality and I'm some Joe
- 2:04:11Schmo, you know, and, but it all worked out and that's then and
- 2:04:16there where I said I whatever it is, I'm going to have audio next
- 2:04:19year. And I've been and I've invested
- 2:04:21a little bit into the infrastructure.
- 2:04:23I don't have it all where it can be perfect.
- 2:04:25Like some of the video from Saturday or Friday at Kalamazoo
- 2:04:29is not where I want it to be audio wise.
- 2:04:31I don't know why it's this. It's the same thing I've been
- 2:04:33doing all year, but it was a little fuzzy in some spots,
- 2:04:37which I'm like, I just don't know.
- 2:04:38I don't know why, I don't know, but it was the best we could
- 2:04:42get. And I don't have an audio tech
- 2:04:45to problem solve that, while I could be the videographer,
- 2:04:48right? Like that's usually that's two
- 2:04:50people and a lot of broadcast teams, not all, but many of
- 2:04:54them. It's two to three people.
- 2:04:57And so, but I think that's the thing too, right, Is that even
- 2:05:00though that was stressful, I didn't go to Facebook and it's
- 2:05:05after 9:00, bitch, moan and complain.
- 2:05:09I just did what I needed to do. I celebrated.
- 2:05:11The win of overcoming the adversity, right?
- 2:05:16And I think sometimes that's what we what how we should try
- 2:05:19to spend things is that, yeah, whatever might have happened to
- 2:05:22you might have sucked, but how can you turn that?
- 2:05:25How can you take a win from that?
- 2:05:28Because you might have lost the race or something might have
- 2:05:30happened, but there's a win in there somewhere, a lesson in
- 2:05:34there somewhere. And I think a lot of times
- 2:05:35people, you know, forget those kind of opportunities or forget
- 2:05:39those kind of things. And so, you know, the most
- 2:05:41stressful day that I've had in the racetrack turn into a
- 2:05:44positive for this year where I've been able to do audio at
- 2:05:47every track except Galesburg, because that's a whole different
- 2:05:51thing. And I'm not even going to get
- 2:05:54into that. But I just, I haven't done audio
- 2:05:56there. I can't do audio at at mini
- 2:06:00wedges, but I choose to be on the ground just because I get
- 2:06:05too far away and the ambient might doesn't pick up mini
- 2:06:08wedges like it should. The roof is just too far away.
- 2:06:12And but otherwise I have audio at all these other tracks I've
- 2:06:15been able to hook into different systems, learn different ways to
- 2:06:18do it because they're not all the same.
- 2:06:21So it's like that negative turned into a positive where now
- 2:06:24everyone loves the audio, right? There's a lot of people who
- 2:06:26never cared about the audio except Sean's break, you know,
- 2:06:29and a couple others. And I joked with Sean, I'm like,
- 2:06:31see, Sean, you leave and now I have audio.
- 2:06:33But you know, because he always talked about that spring part
- 2:06:36like me and audio, I'm like, I'm trying to get there.
- 2:06:38I just got to buy more stuff and it costs money to do, But you
- 2:06:42know, I so I think that's how you can turn these pauses.
- 2:06:45You can remember why we love short track racing.
- 2:06:47And that day that I was ready to quit also turned into like, Oh
- 2:06:51man, this is fun again, Like I turned it into fun where I was
- 2:06:56so like, like I said, I'm so defeated where I was ready to
- 2:06:59quit. I was ready to leave the roof
- 2:07:02that day, leave all my stuff and go sit somewhere and not even
- 2:07:06video, just not even do it. I was so defeated.
- 2:07:09Yeah, I hear you. Sometimes it's not as.
- 2:07:13Fun as the fun, the stuff that excuse me, it's after 9:00 I'm
- 2:07:17turning into a pumpkin here. Sometimes the stuff that isn't
- 2:07:19supposed to be fun turns into frustrating, which is a really a
- 2:07:23vicious cycle. Yep.
- 2:07:25And you know what go fishing. You know if it's at a.
- 2:07:28Point where it's you're just miserable every week at the
- 2:07:30track it just might be time to step away right How many people
- 2:07:34I mean we've been I interviewed a couple people who have taken a
- 2:07:36year or two away from the racetrack and then they come
- 2:07:38back right they miss it yeah I had Jay Fried on my show this
- 2:07:42week and he took he's gone for. Almost six years with life, life
- 2:07:45going on and things happening and just needed a break from the
- 2:07:47racetrack. And I mean, you see how how, how
- 2:07:50back in deep he is now. And yeah, maybe that's the
- 2:07:52course some people need. I I can't fathom that in my
- 2:07:55brain right now. But who knows, maybe, maybe down
- 2:07:57the line. Michael McIntyre.
- 2:07:59He started videoing in 2007. He was telling me his story.
- 2:08:02He started in 2007, and but he took a hiatus for a little bit.
- 2:08:07He said it got to be too much. And, you know, he stepped away.
- 2:08:10And I think, you know, sometimes too, you know, even being on the
- 2:08:12media side, they're things that I have to show a report that
- 2:08:15maybe are not the most exciting thing, you know, And I get it,
- 2:08:19Like Nick Presser. Such a.
- 2:08:21Champ, you know, I had a report as DQ and I went to him on
- 2:08:24Saturday and I, you know, apologize to him.
- 2:08:27And I said I didn't say specifics.
- 2:08:30It was not my place to do that from Kalamazoo.
- 2:08:33Others did. I didn't know Andy Bozell won
- 2:08:36until I was on the ground finally and he's in Victory
- 2:08:38Lane. I'm like, what's going on here?
- 2:08:39I thought, did he announce something and I missed it and
- 2:08:42they said no, he won the race. I went, oh, I'm the last to find
- 2:08:45out everything and right, I literally had no clue.
- 2:08:48And so anyways, because I I can't check my race pass while
- 2:08:53we're going right? I, I'm videoing, I'm busy doing
- 2:08:57something. And so anyways, you know, I went
- 2:09:00to Nick's trailer and he, he's like, I slept fine just last
- 2:09:03night, you know, slept just fine last night.
- 2:09:05And then I went to him later 'cause he had made a funny post
- 2:09:08and I went to him and I said I've been thinking about
- 2:09:10something like this. And it was like perfect timing
- 2:09:12where it said you only get so many chances to soak up the
- 2:09:15racing action. And, and I asked him first.
- 2:09:18I said I, you know, I'm not wearing a black T-shirt, so you
- 2:09:21can't tell me to stay right there so you can come kick my
- 2:09:24butt. And I was wearing a grey T-shirt
- 2:09:26and I stopped coming to see you. Yeah, I said.
- 2:09:29Would I? If you know, you know.
- 2:09:32And I didn't have my I could have hit out of my car.
- 2:09:34My car was in the pit area. I could have locked myself in
- 2:09:36the car, but I didn't. I went up to him just like to do
- 2:09:39every week when I see the press source and I go up to them, I
- 2:09:41say you suck. And then I have a 10 minute
- 2:09:43conversation with them, 'cause that's the bingo board, that's
- 2:09:46our bingo spot. You know, I go up to them and I
- 2:09:48say you suck. And now no one else can say it
- 2:09:50'cause I already said it first. But I said you get the free pass
- 2:09:54if everybody else does this actually in the stands.
- 2:09:57Yeah, yeah, I. Already did it.
- 2:09:59You're not original. Anymore, I already did it.
- 2:10:01And so anyways, I went up to him.
- 2:10:03I said would you be offended if I did this?
- 2:10:05It's like perfect. And he said no, go for it.
- 2:10:08So here's a sport, Yeah, as as much crap as they catch.
- 2:10:12And I. Mean, hey, maybe some of it's
- 2:10:14deserved sometimes, but they are they can roll with the punch and
- 2:10:17I mean Oh yeah, yeah, that's a hat off, hat off to them for
- 2:10:19that and. I told them it.
- 2:10:21Was in 2003 when I first had my. Cameras because he had one for
- 2:10:25practice at Kalamazoo and then they did one at Plymouth and I
- 2:10:29went to their trailer and I was talking with them and and trucks
- 2:10:33were in there and others. And I said, and I'm not shy
- 2:10:35about this. I remember I was this stupid
- 2:10:37race fan that I tell people all the time.
- 2:10:40Drew Jack would know. I tell There's so many
- 2:10:41conversations where I'm speaking as a stupid race fan than I used
- 2:10:45to be, and I'm still learning now.
- 2:10:47I'm not perfect, but you know, I told Nick, I said, and as a fan
- 2:10:52in the sands of the South Bend, I could care less for you.
- 2:10:55I hated every moment you're on the track.
- 2:10:57And I you know, I never wished that you would get hurt.
- 2:11:00But if your car hit the wall, I wasn't sad, right?
- 2:11:03Or something happened and I and I was telling them I said, but
- 2:11:06this is what I wish fans would have opportunities to do to step
- 2:11:11on the other side in the pig area, get to know drivers and
- 2:11:14not just judge a driver for what you've known or what you've
- 2:11:16heard or what other fans tell you.
- 2:11:18Getting to know pressler's and I get it.
- 2:11:20You know, they have people who like them and they have people
- 2:11:22who don't like them and there's not really an in between and but
- 2:11:27they're they are awesome people. Gage Harris, you know, I've had
- 2:11:30chances to talk with him and I and I mean look at those else
- 2:11:35they have people who like him and who don't like them.
- 2:11:36I'm like, look at his resume, you know, like, you know, like
- 2:11:40all these things, right? And I get it.
- 2:11:42There are people who like top row.
- 2:11:43There are people who don't like top row in it.
- 2:11:44While it bothers me that they don't like it, I'm like, but at
- 2:11:47the end of the day, I am getting to that point where I'm like,
- 2:11:50whatever, you know, like, it's fine.
- 2:11:52Don't like me. You know, I, I'm losing money
- 2:11:55doing this. I don't, I don't have to do
- 2:11:57this. I don't have to focus on this
- 2:11:58full time like I've chosen to do.
- 2:12:01And but it's like with the pressors, I know they get a bad
- 2:12:04Rep from a lot of people, but it's like, but if you talk with
- 2:12:06them, if you talk with Nick, if you talk with Corey, if you talk
- 2:12:09with Gage Harris and you get to know the crew and the team
- 2:12:14behind them, it's like they're they're not bad people.
- 2:12:17You know, you may not like him on the track, but they also know
- 2:12:20if they want to race at the next race, they got to be in
- 2:12:23contention of winning. And they're not there to
- 2:12:26purposely wreck people. Despite what someone might think
- 2:12:28or say, they're not. Because look at Nick.
- 2:12:30He got his crap torn up a few weeks ago.
- 2:12:34Not even his own fault he got. Locked into someone else.
- 2:12:37'S mess, I think it was Flagler boy, right?
- 2:12:39And it is ninth, someone else's mess and.
- 2:12:43People blamed him. It's like it wasn't.
- 2:12:45Even him, you know, he didn't do it.
- 2:12:47It was a ricochet from in front of him.
- 2:12:49And but it's like, you know, there are drivers now that I
- 2:12:52have gotten to know on this side that as a fan, I definitely had
- 2:12:55a different opinion on where I'm like, you know, now I look
- 2:12:58forward to talking to them all the time.
- 2:13:00And so I just wish, and I don't know how I don't know if there's
- 2:13:03a way to facilitate those kind of things.
- 2:13:05Maybe maybe it's not so much an autograph night, but sort of
- 2:13:08like what New Paris is doing where you have during an
- 2:13:11intermission where you have drivers from a specific class
- 2:13:13come up where fans can engage with them, can talk with them,
- 2:13:16can see them behind, you know, who's behind the helmet and not
- 2:13:20just see them on the track, like have a conversation with them.
- 2:13:24I think having, you know, some drivers on the Monday Night
- 2:13:27Rewind, there's some people who have thought things that I've
- 2:13:30had people tell me in person. They're a cool person, aren't
- 2:13:33they? Are?
- 2:13:33Oh, they're not as bad as I thought I've been.
- 2:13:36I've been surprised by guests we've had on here.
- 2:13:38Yep. And I and I think that's OK,
- 2:13:40right? So.
- 2:13:41So it's one of those things that, you know, again, that's
- 2:13:46social media can help in so many ways.
- 2:13:48But I just wish there was ways that we.
- 2:13:50Can just take time to to think so that we can get to know
- 2:13:55people, get to, you know, not on the screen, but be, you know, in
- 2:13:58person. You know, because there's a lot
- 2:14:01of people who sacrifice family time, money, resources, whether
- 2:14:09that's sponsors, crew members, drivers, race car owners,
- 2:14:12whatever. To put on a show every Friday,
- 2:14:15Saturday, Sunday, you know, get the people who run these tracks.
- 2:14:19You know, race directors aren't perfect.
- 2:14:21Owners aren't perfect. The concession stand workers
- 2:14:24aren't perfect. The foods not always going to be
- 2:14:25perfect, but you have people who are trying their best every
- 2:14:29single time. You never know beyond the track
- 2:14:32what's going on in their life that, you know, I think that
- 2:14:36those are just some of the things that we need to remember
- 2:14:37so that we can continue this positive momentum, right?
- 2:14:40That we can continue, you know, to try to recover a sport that
- 2:14:44we love because we're, we're not so far away from.
- 2:14:49Going the opposite and. We're track shut down.
- 2:14:52You have a couple for sale. We already know, you know, we
- 2:14:57already know industry looks at some of these sites, you know,
- 2:15:01to build factories or build whatever.
- 2:15:04Look at Grundy County. We learned a few weeks ago, I
- 2:15:06didn't know this, that Grundy County is the last asphalt track
- 2:15:10other than the Chicago land. But short track, the last
- 2:15:13asphalt short track in Illinois just.
- 2:15:19That think about that when he said that I'm like.
- 2:15:22I did not know that and it's sad.
- 2:15:25It is heartbreaking. But but think of the island.
- 2:15:28Then that puts them. On where it.
- 2:15:29May be harder to get cars, it may be harder to get things
- 2:15:32because you know, people don't want to build for one track.
- 2:15:36You've got people who. Want to travel so and I Irish
- 2:15:39said something on my show Iris Saunders and.
- 2:15:41He was to get some bleachers and features available on Sunday
- 2:15:43Buju bull ring cheap plug Monday.
- 2:15:45I'm going to charge you for that going forward, but go ahead.
- 2:15:49No, Kate, Iris Saunders on my show, he's he made a point
- 2:15:52about. Shelves and inventory where
- 2:15:55maybe there's not enough inventory to fill all the
- 2:15:57shelves. And if you start taking some
- 2:15:59shelves away, the the OR take some whatever you start the
- 2:16:02shelves get a little more full, right?
- 2:16:03If you take some shelves away, the other shelves get more full.
- 2:16:06But I'm I would argue that a lot of times you take this inventory
- 2:16:09off that shelf, it's just not going to go to another shelf.
- 2:16:12It's going to sit there and expire.
- 2:16:15I think we need all the shelves we can get and all the stores we
- 2:16:17can get. So I don't yeah, I don't agree
- 2:16:20with my guest Irish up point on that first show.
- 2:16:22It's I feel like we need the word out there.
- 2:16:25We need as many tracks as we can get and we need as many people
- 2:16:27at those tracks no matter what, no matter what the means is,
- 2:16:30whether I mean it's blasting out on social media or we, like we
- 2:16:33talked about earlier, getting into the community and making
- 2:16:35those deals, like you said, at a good enough pub or Tina, it's
- 2:16:40too late. I will get actually bad.
- 2:16:43I'm about to fall asleep on the air.
- 2:16:45Don't do it to me now. Do not do it to me now it was it
- 2:16:49was felt like a dirt track this. Weekend, it was a.
- 2:16:51Dust Bowl out there for that construction, I tell you, come
- 2:16:54back on Thursday because you know, on Thursday, obviously.
- 2:16:57Now that we don't have Justin on, you know, that kind of, I
- 2:17:00figure we can have like an open format on Thursday cuz people
- 2:17:02really like that a few weeks ago when it's like, well, audio
- 2:17:05sucks out all this sucks, nothing's working right.
- 2:17:07And let's just have a literal show of just talking.
- 2:17:10And maybe, I don't know, maybe we can work on like a round
- 2:17:13table for Thursday. Maybe we bring a couple people
- 2:17:16on and do like word choice and just kind of have like AI don't
- 2:17:20know, kind of like a fun send off for the weekly version of
- 2:17:23it. But I don't know, I'll think
- 2:17:26about that. Maybe you could think about that
- 2:17:27too. And maybe we could talk about
- 2:17:29how awesome of a dirt track South Bend would make.
- 2:17:34How about? No, I actually don't think that,
- 2:17:36just so you know. I know I bust your balls on that
- 2:17:39and it's after 9:00 so I can say that but but I still think M40
- 2:17:44would make an awesome dirt track.
- 2:17:45I will go to my grave thinking that you can talk to Johnny and
- 2:17:49Bill about that one. Well, I love it.
- 2:17:51As an asphalt track, don't get me wrong.
- 2:17:53But I just pictured dirt light models and Sprint cars on there.
- 2:17:57I don't know about front wheel drives on there as a dirt track
- 2:17:59and I don't. The unfortunate thing is if you
- 2:18:01made it a dirt track, I don't know that you would run it
- 2:18:03weekly. And I think that's that would be
- 2:18:06the bad part is, Oh, excuse me, I apologize for that.
- 2:18:10I don't think you. Would be able to run it weekly
- 2:18:12Hartford, right? They're down to two classes.
- 2:18:16I think another dirt track somewhere close would help them
- 2:18:19because yeah, you have Butler. But you know, I, I think people
- 2:18:23don't want to build just for one or two tracks.
- 2:18:25They want to kind of travel around.
- 2:18:28So I definitely think if there's another dirt track in the area
- 2:18:30that would help someone, I don't know who.
- 2:18:33And I'm not forgetting Shady Hill, but I feel like Shady
- 2:18:36Hill's just so out there that a lot of those cars aren't going
- 2:18:39to go to Hartford or Butler. They're going to go Shady Hill
- 2:18:42and pretty much race at Shady Hill.
- 2:18:43I feel that same way about Butler.
- 2:18:45I forget Butler exists and that's not.
- 2:18:47Anything against it? It's just like it's just for
- 2:18:48some reason tucked up and over there and City Hill's the same
- 2:18:51way it's tucked down here and I just, well, you and you don't.
- 2:18:56How do I say? This without sounding bad I I'll
- 2:19:02say it this way. It's not still going to sound
- 2:19:03right, but you just. You don't hear a lot about it,
- 2:19:06right? I don't see for some for for
- 2:19:08some reason the circles don't intersect from our.
- 2:19:10Area to those two tracks for some weird reason, like I know
- 2:19:14Brian Goodacre's been doing some work over at Shady Hill and I
- 2:19:17know seems like he's doing some promotion stuff.
- 2:19:20So that's my only connection to Shady Hill and Anthony Kaiser
- 2:19:24used to race to this area. He started racing at Butler this
- 2:19:26year. That's the only Butler
- 2:19:27connection I have. So Yep, I just feel like I don't
- 2:19:30see a lot coming out of it. I see their social media like I
- 2:19:33follow and they do a great job with their social media.
- 2:19:37I know they made improvements there.
- 2:19:38Bob Garrett, who used to be at Galesburg, was a long time owner
- 2:19:42at Butler. And right so it it, Donnie
- 2:19:45Ritter won a race there and a race at another track in the
- 2:19:47same night. And like so obviously it has
- 2:19:49history. It has all that.
- 2:19:50But I feel like coming out of Saturday, I never hear or see
- 2:19:54anything about Butler and I don't know if that's good or
- 2:19:57bad. I definitely heard a lot about
- 2:19:59all other places on Sunday mornings.
- 2:20:01And you know, again, that's the part that I don't look forward
- 2:20:04to. But and Tina's right, like they
- 2:20:06get a great car count. Like I see a lot of crystal.
- 2:20:09I see crystal stuff come through all the time.
- 2:20:12I see stuff from Mount Pleasant. I see stuff from I-90 6 and, and
- 2:20:17the incredible work that that team does and I-90 6.
- 2:20:20I just don't for one reason or another.
- 2:20:23I just never see a lot of Butler stuff and.
- 2:20:26So I don't know, I I still want to get there one of these times,
- 2:20:28even if it's just as a fan, like just to sit there and experience
- 2:20:31a dirt track race there. But I I tried earlier this year
- 2:20:35that got rained out while I was in.
- 2:20:36Yeah, that's right. That.
- 2:20:37You're going to go, but why don't we?
- 2:20:39Pause this conversation because I know it's getting near your
- 2:20:41bedtime and this could be, you know, we can bring it back time
- 2:20:43on air. And I do want to remind.
- 2:20:46Everyone just one. More time for the upcoming
- 2:20:49schedule over the next few weeks.
- 2:20:50Again, this Thursday is the final weekly episode.
- 2:20:54I know we've missed a couple because of conflicts and
- 2:20:57schedule whatever, but we've had pretty consistent scheduling
- 2:21:00there. But this is the final weekly
- 2:21:02episode. Next Monday, September 7th,
- 2:21:05there's no Monday Night rewind. We are going to come on
- 2:21:08Wednesday, September 9th so that everyone can enjoy their long
- 2:21:12Labor Day weekend and just recover from the weekend if
- 2:21:15anything. So we will have the Monday Night
- 2:21:17Rewind live on Wednesday, September 9th and yes, it will
- 2:21:21be called the Monday Night Rewind on a Wednesday.
- 2:21:24We will get over it. Then on Thursday, September
- 2:21:2717th, we'll start our every other week Thursday Night
- 2:21:31Throttle and then we will come back on October 1st, Thursday
- 2:21:35night throttle. Both of these align close to
- 2:21:37Super Shoot weekend and Michigan Cup weekend.
- 2:21:40And then October 15th is right before Bahama brackets at Grundy
- 2:21:44County Speedway and Morris, IL And then October 29th, I'm sure
- 2:21:48lines with something somewhere I that was just every other
- 2:21:52Thursday, but that will be our final every other episode as we
- 2:21:56transition. So the month of October and
- 2:21:58September are really our transition month to every other
- 2:22:01Thursdays. And then starting in November on
- 2:22:03the 12th of November will be the one episode of the Thursday
- 2:22:08night throttle each month. That doesn't mean I won't play
- 2:22:11old episodes of a Monday night rewind on a Thursday or
- 2:22:15whatever, but we won't be live. I, I want to do something that
- 2:22:19doesn't require me to sit at the computer necessarily on a
- 2:22:22Thursday every week. And so, so I just wanted to
- 2:22:26remind everyone of that. But other than that, I know
- 2:22:29this, we started to wrap up and we still want another 20
- 2:22:31minutes, but I feel like it's good conversation that we can
- 2:22:34with let's put as my favorite quote, let's put a pin in it and
- 2:22:37we can bring it back on Thursday.
- 2:22:38Like I said, open format on Thursday because there's not a
- 2:22:41lot of shows this weekend. We advertised the big ones
- 2:22:44tonight. So kind of like open format, you
- 2:22:47know, like I said, maybe we bring a couple people on as
- 2:22:49guests to just kind of, I don't know, whatever.
- 2:22:53We can figure out what the format looks like for Thursday.
