- 0:24a fantastic way. Hey, everybody.
- 0:28Good morning. OK, Today we're talking about
- 0:32your love of finding something that gives you comfort.
- 0:37So reason I'm bringing this up is obviously I've sounded very
- 0:42rough for the past couple days. Didn't don't know if it's
- 0:45allergies with all the pollen, don't know if I've got
- 0:49something. My husband was sick last week.
- 0:52So I'm not sure, you know, what could it be?
- 0:55What could it be? So, but I felt like physically I
- 0:58have mostly felt fine other than the fact that I have this like
- 1:02cement in my head. And then it started to like wear
- 1:06on me and I started to notice I was observing myself starting to
- 1:10think about comfort foods and things that made me feel
- 1:13comfortable. I have a sweatshirt that I
- 1:17particularly like this sweatshirt when I, I will use
- 1:20the word I want to feel cozy. And I put this sweatshirt on,
- 1:23you know, it's more of a winter sweatshirt than a spring
- 1:26sweatshirt, but I wasn't getting hot in it.
- 1:29Interesting, right? But I was being drawn to it and
- 1:32I first I was like, oh, I want to put that Magnolia sweatshirt
- 1:35on. And then I was like, interesting
- 1:37that I want to put that on. Then I started to recognize that
- 1:41I was craving tea all the time. Now that was something that when
- 1:44I was sick when I was a kid, my mother always made me tea and I
- 1:49would drink tea. And another interesting comfort
- 1:53thing showing up. And I would always have to have
- 1:57like a certain lineup of things when I wasn't well, when I was a
- 2:01kid. My mother was excellent at
- 2:02taking care of when you're sick. She was like, all on it.
- 2:06She'd make you this cozy spot on the couch with all your A sheet
- 2:10and blankets. And she'd put the Kleenex box
- 2:12next to you and have, you know, saltine crackers.
- 2:16That was an important part of the whole little thing, a plate
- 2:19of saltine crackers if you wanted them.
- 2:21And always, always, always with a pot of tea that you could feel
- 2:25good. So I started noticing that I was
- 2:29gravitating towards those things.
- 2:30And I don't have saltine crackers because I don't eat
- 2:33them anymore. But I had another type of
- 2:35cracker and I was finding myself eating this.
- 2:38And I over the last 72 hours, I was noticing I was like,
- 2:41interesting. I haven't said I was sick
- 2:44because I don't like to do that. I have, I've isolated myself
- 2:48from people so that I don't get anybody else.
- 2:51But I noticed I was really moving unconsciously, very
- 2:55unconsciously towards comfort things.
- 2:57And it got me thinking about how often we do this without even
- 3:01paying attention to it. Like, it just kind of gravitates
- 3:05to us. And before you know it, here you
- 3:06are doing something that brings you comfort and you, you
- 3:10sometimes have to question it. So the final straw, if you will,
- 3:14was yesterday afternoon. There's a place that makes the
- 3:18best Curry, coconut Curry soup that you could ever imagine,
- 3:23this little Thai restaurant. I absolutely love this soup.
- 3:27And I know it's a comfort thing for me.
- 3:30And I had to go out and do a couple errands and my husband
- 3:35was with me and I said, hey, do you feel like having Thai food?
- 3:38And he started laughing because he knew I was going to ask for
- 3:40this coconut Curry soup. And he's like, it's 2:00.
- 3:44And I was like, I know, but are you hungry?
- 3:46Like, it's we missed lunch, but, you know, it's too early for
- 3:50dinner, but we could. And he's like, let's just get
- 3:53you soup. And as soon as he said the word
- 3:55soup, I was like, all right, I have to admit it.
- 3:58I'm really moved into this. I must have a little something
- 4:02that I have to deal with here. And he's like, yeah, you think?
- 4:05And as soon as I started thinking I wanted the soup, I
- 4:09was so excited to have the soup. But there's one little thing
- 4:12about this soup. Whenever I have it the next day,
- 4:16I always feel very puffy because of course I'm getting soup that
- 4:21no doubt has higher sodium or something in it that causes you
- 4:26to have that inflammation. But I also know that as soon as
- 4:29I eat it, I'm going to feel so different.
- 4:32Like as soon as it goes into my body, I start to feel so much
- 4:36better. So now I have this trade off in
- 4:38my head. Do I want the soup?
- 4:39Do I not want the soup? Do I want the soup?
- 4:41Do I not want the soup? And he's he knows this is going
- 4:44on and he's like, well, you have 15 minutes while we're driving
- 4:46down the highway before we get to the exit to decide.
- 4:49And I was like, OK, so I'm sitting there and screw it, I'm
- 4:52having the soup. So I get the soup, I eat it.
- 4:56I'm so, I feel so cozy. I feel so good.
- 5:00I didn't have a client's all afternoon so I could actually
- 5:03lay down, came in the house, ate the soup and laid down and just
- 5:10went right to sleep. And I felt so much better when I
- 5:13did that. But guess what happened today?
- 5:16I woke up and of course I was all puffy and I and I started
- 5:20laughing and I was like, well, you knew it was going to happen.
- 5:23And as irritated as you are that it did happen, you knew it was
- 5:26going to happen and you did it anyway.
- 5:28So the reason I'm telling you all this is sometimes you have
- 5:32to ask yourself, is the trade off worth it?
- 5:34And yesterday's trade off was worth today's puffiness.
- 5:37And, but sometimes it's not worth it.
- 5:39Sometimes I'll be like, Nope, it's not worth it.
- 5:42You know that. That's the reason why I don't
- 5:44drink alcohol anymore. It's just not worth it.
- 5:46I don't like the way I feel after I drink.
- 5:49And you know what, no more alcohol.
- 5:51That's it done. So this is one of those things
- 5:54where you have to check in and say, is it worth it?
- 5:57Is it going to be worth the outcome?
- 5:59And for me yesterday it was. But it's just a point of
- 6:02something to think about and consider in your own world,
- 6:04because I know this shows up constantly across the board in
- 6:07many areas. All right my friends, I hope you
- 6:10have a blessed day and hopefully tomorrow my voice is going to
- 6:12sound better. I will see you then, Bye.
