- Lucas: Hei og velkommen til Episode 180 of Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. Luna: Hei Lucas! And hello to all our listeners out there. I'm ready to learn today. Lucas: Great to hear, Luna. So today we're going to focus on another very useful verb: å spørre. That means 'to ask'. Luna: Å spørre. Okay, I like that. Asking questions is a big part of learning, right? Lucas: Exactly. And you know, if today's lesson helps you, and if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Norwegian, the way we keep this ad-free is through listener support. You can find us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a nice way to say thanks and keep these lessons coming. So, back to asking questions — what's the first phrase? Lucas: Let's start with the base: å spørre. Say it with me: å spørre. Luna: Å spørre. Lucas: Good. Now, 'I ask' is 'jeg spør'. Jeg spør. Luna: Jeg spør. So that's like 'I ask'. Lucas: Yes. And 'spør du?' means 'do you ask?'. Spør du? Luna: Spør du? Do you ask? Simple. Lucas: Now, to 'ask about' something, we say 'spør om'. For example, 'jeg spør om veien' — I ask about the road. Luna: Spør om. Ask about. Jeg spør om veien. That's practical. Lucas: And a very polite way to ask a question is 'får jeg spørre?' — may I ask? Luna: Får jeg spørre? May I ask? That's so useful for being polite. Lucas: Let's practice a little dialogue. I'll ask you a question, and you answer using 'spør'. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: Spør du ofte? That means 'do you ask often?' Luna: Ja, jeg spør ofte. Yes, I ask often. Lucas: Perfect. And if you want to ask about something specific, you can say 'jeg spør om...' So, 'jeg spør om været' — I ask about the weather. Luna: Jeg spør om været. I ask about the weather. Lucas: Now, imagine you're at a café and you want to ask if they have a menu. You could say 'får jeg spørre om menyen?' — may I ask about the menu? Luna: Får jeg spørre om menyen? That sounds great. May I ask about the menu. Lucas: And the staff might answer 'ja, vær så god' — yes, please go ahead. Luna: Nice. So 'å spørre' is really handy for getting information. Lucas: Absolutely. Let's do a quick review. What does 'å spørre' mean? Luna: To ask. Lucas: And 'jeg spør'? Luna: I ask. Lucas: 'Spør du?' Luna: Do you ask? Lucas: 'Spør om'? Luna: Ask about. Lucas: And 'får jeg spørre?' Luna: May I ask? Lucas: Excellent! You've got it. Now, try to use these phrases this week. When you're out and about, in Norwegian, you can ask 'får jeg spørre om noe?' — may I ask about something? Luna: Får jeg spørre om noe? That's a good one to remember. Lucas: That's all for today's episode. Thanks for learning with us. Luna: Takk for i dag! Practice these and we'll see you next time. Lucas: Ha det bra!
