Speaker 3: everybody had a great weekend, beautiful weekend here in the

Speaker 3: Canal Valley. As we work our way toward Halloween coming
• 2:04
Speaker 3: up a little bit later on current member of the
• 2:05

• 2:19
Speaker 3: go live to our man Rob Reeal from our sister
• 2:21
Speaker 3: station ninety six to one KWS, who's continuing on his
• 2:24
Speaker 3: walk from Charleston to Morgantown for WU Children's Hospital. Sir Robert,
• 2:28
Speaker 3: good morning, Good morning.
• 2:30
Speaker 5: Is this dude ever going to get there?
• 2:33
Speaker 3: Well, you're making good progress, right? Were you able to
• 2:35
Speaker 3: rest a little bit over the weekend?
• 2:37
Speaker 5: I was, And so the way we built this schedule
• 2:43
Speaker 5: basically from the time I shot my mouth off in
• 2:45
Speaker 5: August during our Cares for Kids radios on about walked
• 2:48
Speaker 5: over with panhandle cleaning and restoration, or as it came
• 2:51
Speaker 5: to be called, when Martin and Bob stepped in to
• 2:55
Speaker 5: save me for myself, in all the planning, we built
• 2:58
Speaker 5: today as kind of a flex day, meaning if you know,
• 3:01
Speaker 5: I got hurt, or the weather was nasty, or you know,
• 3:04
Speaker 5: just something came up that we could have combined today's
• 3:07
Speaker 5: walk with tomorrow to catch up and it still wouldn't
• 3:10
Speaker 5: have been a herculean task. But Knockwood, Mother Nature and
• 3:16
Speaker 5: Murphy have been good to me. So it's just a
• 3:19
Speaker 5: short eight miles today. I know that eight miles short.
• 3:23
Speaker 5: It's all relative, but yeah, making my way through Clarksburg today.
• 3:28
Speaker 3: And again you started this What day did you start
• 3:30
Speaker 3: this on? It was because it was two weeks ago.
• 3:33
Speaker 5: Yeah, Thursday the seventeenth is when I stepped off from
• 3:37
Speaker 5: eleven eleven Virginia Street East. And the Thursday afternoon, the
• 3:41
Speaker 5: thirty first, that's Halloween. I plan to walk in in
• 3:45
Speaker 5: costume to WVU Medicine children, toisting that ginormous check over
• 3:50
Speaker 5: my head, to hopefully have some Halloween shenan against too
• 3:53
  Speaker 5: with your kids.
• 3:54
Speaker 3: Let me go ahead and guess what your costume is
• 3:56
Speaker 3: going to be. It's going to be a tired, middle
• 3:58
Speaker 3: aged man with a lot of bliss.
• 4:00
Speaker 5: Is that your cost and whose skin has turned entirely
• 4:04
  Speaker 5: to salt?
• 4:05
Speaker 3: At this point, we're talking to Rob Real from his
• 4:08
Speaker 3: sister's station in ninety six to one KWS to do.
• 4:10
Speaker 3: Want to remind you to follow his walk on our
• 4:12
Speaker 3: social media sites because he has been posting some absolutely
• 4:16
Speaker 3: beautiful pictures. I was talking about that to somebody earlier. Man, you,
• 4:20
Speaker 3: I mean, I know this is a hard, hard walk,
• 4:22
Speaker 3: and it's very very hard difficult on you, But I mean,
• 4:25
Speaker 3: you couldn't have asked for a better time of year
• 4:27
Speaker 3: to do it, because you're getting to see all the
• 4:28
Speaker 3: Mother Nature's glory, my friend.
• 4:30
Speaker 5: I tell you, we that's one of the things we
• 4:32
Speaker 5: talked about in the planning. Had we tried to go immediately.
• 4:36
Speaker 5: I mean, we were still dealing with ninety degree heat
• 4:39
Speaker 5: when October started, but we didn't want to get too
• 4:42
Speaker 5: far into potential for you know, cold rain and snow
• 4:46
Speaker 5: and that sort of thing. And I just have to
• 4:49
Speaker 5: keep tip of my cap to Mother Nature for making
• 4:52
Speaker 5: it look so good and making it feel so good.
• 4:54
Speaker 5: I mean, sunny in seventy five today. Who complained about that?
• 4:56
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 4:57
Speaker 3: And I was looking ahead to the extended forecast because
• 4:59
Speaker 3: there was some hawk that there was a chance of rain.
• 5:02
Speaker 3: I think it was on Wednesday. Possibly. Uh, but uh,
• 5:07
Speaker 3: the app I'm currently looking at right now doesn't mention that.
• 5:09
  Speaker 6: So uh.
• 5:10
Speaker 3: I mean, uh, did did you get rained on it
• 5:12
Speaker 3: all on Friday? Because I know it did rain in
• 5:14
Speaker 3: some areas of Charleston, some areas of the valley on Friday.
• 5:16
Speaker 3: Was there any rain that all on Friday?
• 5:19
Speaker 5: I got about six rain drops on Friday.
• 5:21
Speaker 3: You didn't know what was rain and what was sweat though,
• 5:23
  Speaker 3: right exactly.
• 5:25
Speaker 5: It was one of those like it's is it gunn
• 5:27
Speaker 5: at rain? Maybe? Okay, No, we're good. And that was
• 5:30
Speaker 5: it looked, you know. Looking at more of the Clarksburg
• 5:34
Speaker 5: Bridge Fort Morgantown section of the forecast, it looks free
• 5:38
Speaker 5: and clear for me to finish by Thursday afternoon.
• 5:41
  Speaker 3: Uh.
• 5:41
Speaker 5: But I better because if I have to push this
• 5:43
Speaker 5: thing into finishing on Friday, I will get rained on
• 5:46
Speaker 5: and it will be significantly colder.
• 5:48
Speaker 3: All right again, Rob Real Uh, and a big shout
• 5:50
Speaker 3: out to the folks that Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration for
• 5:53
  Speaker 3: sponsoring October.
• 5:55
  Speaker 7: Uh.
• 5:55
Speaker 3: Be safe out there, my friend, and we'll talk in
• 5:57
Speaker 3: We'll talk to you again tomorrow.

  Speaker 3: A half a mile past. That's the that's the landmark
• 8:09
Speaker 3: is the Big Lee Pigley Wiggly. Now, but you were
• 8:11
Speaker 3: saying you got some and you kind of rolled drives

Speaker 3: What what led to you wanting to do this? Where
• 9:17
Speaker 3: did the idea come from?
• 9:19
Speaker 8: We actually got the idea from the Dunbar Seniors.
• 9:22
Speaker 3: Oh you stole it, so we sure did.
• 9:24
Speaker 8: Absolutely. You know what they say about copycats.
• 9:27
Speaker 3: Yeah, well there's no I mean, you know, there's no
• 9:30
Speaker 3: new ideas under the sun. So if somebody's probably done
• 9:32
Speaker 3: it before. But this sounds like a really interesting concept though,
• 9:34
Speaker 3: that you're trying to do here.
• 9:36
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 9:36
Speaker 9: Well we saw them have great success in raising money
• 9:40
Speaker 9: for their senior activities programs and we thought, man, we
• 9:43
Speaker 9: ought to get in on that.
• 9:45
Speaker 8: So here we are, and they are actually going to
• 9:47
Speaker 8: be at our event as well.
• 9:49
Speaker 9: So we're excited to see what they bring as far
• 9:53
Speaker 9: as some handmade Christmas ornaments, T shirts and whatever else.
• 9:58
Speaker 8: They choose to bless us with, we'll be happy to
• 10:00
  Speaker 8: have them there.
• 10:01
Speaker 3: And of course the money that you raise will go
• 10:03
Speaker 3: back into the programs you offer for the seniors of
• 10:05
Speaker 3: our areas. Tell us about some of the services, well, Dave.
• 10:09
Speaker 10: Some of the services we have are well health and
• 10:14
Speaker 10: wellness opportunities that we're really happy to have Zoomba and
• 10:19
Speaker 10: tai Chi sit and Fit, and we have a new
• 10:21
Speaker 10: program called a Matter of Balance. We also have caregiving services,
• 10:28
Speaker 10: and we have emergency medical transportation. We have a group
• 10:33
Speaker 10: of social service representatives who help people with their Medicare plans.
• 10:37
Speaker 10: So we're in Medicare open enrollment right now, so they're
• 10:40
Speaker 10: pretty busy. If anybody's interested in that, they can call
• 10:43
Speaker 10: our office and make an appointment and get some help
• 10:45
Speaker 10: with their Medicare plans. We also do the vegetable voucher
• 10:51
Speaker 10: program every summer. Most of the seniors in the county
• 10:54
Speaker 10: know all about that. We do home delivered meals and
• 10:57
Speaker 10: congregate meals. Are currently serving about four hundred and fifty
• 11:02
Speaker 10: home delivery bills in Kanall County.
• 11:04
Speaker 3: I was actually doing a little research for the show
• 11:06
Speaker 3: last night, and I went to your guys Facebook page
• 11:08
Speaker 3: and I saw that you have the menu usually on
• 11:10
Speaker 3: their daily for what you're offering, look pretty good. What's
• 11:13
Speaker 3: the age I have that I have to be to
• 11:15
Speaker 3: get one of those?
• 11:16
Speaker 11: You have to be sixty and up?
• 11:18
Speaker 10: Sorry, I'm out then, I'm okay, I'm out too.
• 11:22
Speaker 8: What can I say?
• 11:23
  Speaker 3: Yeah?
• 11:23
Speaker 11: But yeah, you can still come and eat with us.
• 11:27
Speaker 10: You can pay, you can do.
• 11:28
Speaker 8: Like a private pay.
• 11:30
Speaker 3: And these services, I mean are so so vital and
• 11:34
Speaker 3: there's so many people that take advantage of these services.
• 11:37
Speaker 3: You have a ballpark figure for how many people that
• 11:39
Speaker 3: you that you serve as far as the meal, yeah,
• 11:41
Speaker 3: any or any any of the services I mean, I
• 11:43
Speaker 3: mean it's got to be several thousand, right, Yes, you're
• 11:46
  Speaker 3: overall services.
• 11:47
  Speaker 10: Yeah, overall thousands.
• 11:49
Speaker 3: Yeah. That's it's great stuff that you're doing there, and
• 11:51
Speaker 3: you guys would be committed for that. Tell us, let's
• 11:53
Speaker 3: go back to the Craft Fair again. Give us the dates,
• 11:55
Speaker 3: the location, and give us all that and info again.
• 11:58

• 17:26
Speaker 3: know there, you're there now. You're hoping to get re
• 17:30
Speaker 3: elected to the House of District fifty seven. Explain the
• 17:32
  Speaker 3: district to us.
• 17:33
Speaker 7: All right, the fifty seven district is comprised of Charleston,
• 17:37
Speaker 7: like kind of the Fort Hill area, parts of South
• 17:39
  Speaker 7: Charleston and Dunbar.
• 17:40
Speaker 3: So talk about your experience in the House. What's been
• 17:43
Speaker 3: like so far. It's been a great experience.
• 17:45
Speaker 7: You know, we are in the super minorities Democrats.
• 17:49
Speaker 3: It's eleven of us in the House. Guess if you
• 17:51
Speaker 3: can have a super majority, you can have a super minority.
• 17:53
Speaker 7: Right, minority. Yeah, So, but it's been a great it's
• 17:55
Speaker 7: been a great experience. We've been able to do some
• 17:57
Speaker 7: good things and work together.
• 17:58
Speaker 3: Well, it's not easy being a Democrat these days in
• 18:02
Speaker 3: West Virginia outside. I think that's the understatement of the year,
• 18:05
Speaker 3: based on nothing else. The numbers, it's or the lack
• 18:09
Speaker 3: or the lack of it's kind of difficult to get
• 18:11
Speaker 3: things done that you want to get done. Well, it is.
• 18:13
Speaker 7: But at the same time, I think there is hope
• 18:15
Speaker 7: things are I think the tie is going to change,
• 18:17
Speaker 7: so but surely, and you know, when we look at
• 18:19
Speaker 7: the numbers and do more you know, analyzing of the numbers,
• 18:22
Speaker 7: we're seeing that not so much of red state, but
• 18:25
Speaker 7: more of a non voting state. So I think we
• 18:27
Speaker 7: need to up the participation. And I think that's our
• 18:29
Speaker 7: job to get people to, you know, get out and
• 18:32
Speaker 7: vote and be part of the process.
• 18:33
Speaker 3: We've talked about that in the past with the number
• 18:35
Speaker 3: of people that choose to just set out an election
• 18:38
Speaker 3: and it doesn't matter, you know, whether it's a presidential
• 18:40
Speaker 3: year or not. West Virginians, by and large, and I
• 18:42
Speaker 3: love my state and I know you do too. We
• 18:45
Speaker 3: don't vote, I mean, and the numbers prove that. And
• 18:48
Speaker 3: it doesn't seem to matter from one year to the
• 18:50
Speaker 3: next week. And I know that there are programs out
• 18:53
Speaker 3: there to encourage people to vote. I know the Secretary
• 18:55
Speaker 3: of State's office, no matter who the secretary is, has
• 18:58
Speaker 3: done voter registration drives andrus and so on and so on.
• 19:00
Speaker 3: But it's not just the kids that don't vote. It's
• 19:02
Speaker 3: a lot of the adults as well.
• 19:03
Speaker 7: Yeah, and I think it has to be a continual effort,
• 19:05
Speaker 7: Like we can't just be around election time.
• 19:08
  Speaker 3: Again.
• 19:08
Speaker 7: Election is always happening, right, but it can't just be
• 19:11
Speaker 7: a election driven It has to be a continual effort
• 19:13
Speaker 7: to educate and just to get people and show people
• 19:15
Speaker 7: the importance of voting.
• 19:17

• 19:32
Speaker 3: Baseball dot com. What do you hear from constituents, Delegate
• 19:35
Speaker 3: when you are out and you're knocking on doors? Or campaigning,
• 19:38
Speaker 3: or just in your daily life. What's the number one
• 19:40
Speaker 3: thing you hear from your constituents? Well, you know, it's
• 19:42
  Speaker 3: a lot.
• 19:42
Speaker 7: And I think the problems that con constituents discussed in
• 19:46
Speaker 7: the fifty seven district are very reflective of those problems
• 19:49
Speaker 7: in West Virginia. You know, we want to see you know,
• 19:51
Speaker 7: public education, We want to be able to afford a
• 19:53
Speaker 7: lifestyle where we can have a home and take a
• 19:55
Speaker 7: vacation and do the things we need to do healthcare
• 19:57
Speaker 7: and different things of that nature. We want to take
• 19:59
Speaker 7: care of the houses and the mental health and criminal
• 20:02
Speaker 7: justice problem. So the problems of the fifty seven district
• 20:04
Speaker 7: are very much reflective of you know, West Virginia and
• 20:07
Speaker 7: the nation for that matter.
• 20:08
Speaker 3: There's been a lot in the news, been discussed on
• 20:10
Speaker 3: this show and various other media outlets about the increasing
• 20:14
Speaker 3: problem that we have with our children in the state
• 20:16
Speaker 3: of West Virginia, whether it's the foster care system, whether
• 20:18
Speaker 3: it's childcare in general. Do you want to address that, Yeah,
• 20:22
  Speaker 3: for sure.
• 20:23
Speaker 7: And I think those problems again can all be kind
• 20:26
Speaker 7: of related back to our sud and our mental health problem,
• 20:29
Speaker 7: because when we look at the foster care system, a
• 20:31
Speaker 7: lot of kids are in falster care because their parents
• 20:33
Speaker 7: are guardians. They have SUD, their substitute disorder or mental
• 20:36
Speaker 7: health problems when we look at you know, childcare, different
• 20:39
Speaker 7: things of that nature.
• 20:40
Speaker 3: So I think we have to address those issues.
• 20:42
Speaker 7: By expanding our behavioral health systems to properly address individuals
• 20:46
Speaker 7: who are in crisis.
• 20:47
Speaker 3: And there are a lot of them there. And we
• 20:50
Speaker 3: did get one bit of good news. It was reported
• 20:53
Speaker 3: by this station and other entities last week that the
• 20:56
Speaker 3: number of overdose deaths in West Virginia has gone down. Yeah. Uh,
• 21:01
Speaker 3: and you got to take you know, that's a good thing.
• 21:03
Speaker 3: That's what We've still got a long way to go,
• 21:04
Speaker 3: but in the crisis that we've had with substance abuse
• 21:07
Speaker 3: in the state, Delegate, I think we'll take any good
• 21:09
  Speaker 3: news at this.
• 21:09
Speaker 7: Time one hundred percent. Any good news is good news. However,
• 21:12
Speaker 7: I don't want people to you know, be misled. We
• 21:14
Speaker 7: still have a major problem, and we have a major
• 21:17
Speaker 7: problem that has to be addressed because I can relate
• 21:19
Speaker 7: any part we're talking economic development, where you talk about tourism,
• 21:22
Speaker 7: where you talking about foster care system, anything like that
• 21:24
Speaker 7: can be directly related back to our SUD problem, and
• 21:27
Speaker 7: that problem can be directly related to mental health and
• 21:30
Speaker 7: truth and people who are not properly dealing with their trauma.
• 21:33
Speaker 3: And we've got a lot of a lot of issues
• 21:35
Speaker 3: there for sure. And again we're talking with Delegate to
• 21:37
Speaker 3: Hollis Lewis. If you are re elected, sir, what do
• 21:40
Speaker 3: you hope to accomplish when you when you go back
• 21:42
Speaker 3: to the capitol. You got your whiteboard ready to go?
• 21:44
Speaker 3: What what do you what do you want to work on? Oh,
• 21:47
Speaker 3: here's what don't I want to work on? You know,
• 21:50
Speaker 3: I think we you know when we you mentioned kind
• 21:53
  Speaker 3: of in the news cycle, p I A. Right, we're
• 21:55
Speaker 3: seeing the increases there, the traumatic increases. So I think
• 21:58
Speaker 3: we have to find a permit of funny solution. We
• 22:01
Speaker 3: have to figure out a way to pay our teachers
• 22:03
Speaker 3: more to keep you know, those teachers in state, particularly
• 22:06
Speaker 3: those who are on the border county. In addition, my
• 22:08
Speaker 3: sort of my expertise would be in the criminal justice
• 22:10
Speaker 3: side of things, and we have to, like I just mentioned,
• 22:12
Speaker 3: we have to deal with our mental health and our
• 22:15
Speaker 3: SUD and deferment programs in order to you know, like
• 22:18
Speaker 3: properly address so we can't lock everybody up So those
• 22:21
Speaker 3: are some of the issues I would like to work
• 22:22
Speaker 3: on if we elected this subpei thing. And I've had
• 22:26
Speaker 3: political folks on, I've had you know, folks from the
• 22:28
  Speaker 3: teachers' unions whatever, I don't. I mean, it's a serious
• 22:31
Speaker 3: issue because we're looking there's gonna be public hearings coming up,
• 22:34
Speaker 3: and I know you'll probably be attending some of those.
• 22:36
Speaker 3: We're going to have the dates of those in some
• 22:39
Speaker 3: future reporting here. But we're talking about dramatic increases. As
• 22:43
Speaker 3: I and as I said before, it doesn't seem to matter.
• 22:46
Speaker 3: This has been a problem. And when I had Fred
• 22:48
Speaker 3: Albert from the American Federation of Teachers on, he said
• 22:50
Speaker 3: the same thing. Doesn't seem to matter who is controlling
• 22:54
Speaker 3: the capital or who sits in the governor's mansion, the
• 22:56
Speaker 3: governor's office. This has been a problem, delicate for so
• 22:59
Speaker 3: many years, and it's just getting The prices are just
• 23:02
  Speaker 3: going up.
• 23:03
Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, because when we talk about the prices
• 23:05
Speaker 7: of you know, medication, when we talk about the prices
• 23:07
Speaker 7: and service and everything going up, so obviously that that
• 23:10
Speaker 7: those costs are going to be passed to the customers. However,
• 23:13
Speaker 7: what I would like to see is just to find
• 23:14
Speaker 7: a permanent funding solution forward. I think there are pathways
• 23:17
Speaker 7: that some of the things we could do, but we
• 23:19
Speaker 7: got a great creative and we have to, you know,
• 23:22
Speaker 7: open our minds up to a little bit of the
• 23:24
Speaker 7: potentials that are out there that could generate revenue. So
• 23:27
Speaker 7: our state workers aren't tax so heavily.
• 23:30
Speaker 3: That was always, you know, that was always the knock,
• 23:33
Speaker 3: or I guess one of the things about being a
• 23:35
Speaker 3: state employee was they said, well, you know, your your
• 23:37
Speaker 3: pay may not be that great, but you got great back,
• 23:38
Speaker 3: great insurance. Can you get great insurance and some other
• 23:41
Speaker 3: perks that go along with it, But that insurance is
• 23:43
Speaker 3: costing you more and more money. And particularly, as you
• 23:46
Speaker 3: pointed out, we have an issue not necessarily in your area,
• 23:49
Speaker 3: but you serve all of West Virginia, not just for
• 23:51
Speaker 3: fifty seven. The teachers can go to Ohio, they can
• 23:55
Speaker 3: go to Maryland, they can go to Pennsylvania. They can
• 23:57
Speaker 3: probably go to Virginia and make more money. And we
• 24:00
Speaker 3: have to be competitive. And these are the things we
• 24:02
Speaker 3: have to think about.
• 24:03
Speaker 7: So not only you know, when we talk about infrastructure issues,
• 24:06
Speaker 7: not only when you talk about childcare, but when you
• 24:08
Speaker 7: talk about something is what people may not think about
• 24:10
Speaker 7: it like PI. That's a competitive issue. So if I'm
• 24:13
Speaker 7: in Parkersburg, if I'm in Huntington, and if I'm in
• 24:16
Speaker 7: Ohio County, I can just cross the border and go
• 24:18
Speaker 7: to those neighboring states make more, potentially pay less than insurance.
• 24:22
Speaker 7: I'm myself, my wife is a state employee, and I
• 24:24
Speaker 7: want her insurance. And you know, if I'm on insurance,
• 24:27
Speaker 7: that's going to go up by double by me being
• 24:30
Speaker 7: double for spouse, double for spouses. So these are issues
• 24:34
Speaker 7: that we have to start to face because we have
• 24:36
Speaker 7: to be competitive nationally and globally, and we got to
• 24:39
Speaker 7: be creative in how we're going to address these issues today.

Speaker 3: Hollis Lewis, Who are you? How did you get here?
• 25:03
  Speaker 3: All right?
• 25:03
Speaker 7: My name is Hollis Lewis, I got that check. I'm
• 25:06
Speaker 7: from Charleston's West Side. I grew up you know, in
• 25:09
Speaker 7: the eighty and nineties, went to George Washington high school
• 25:12
Speaker 7: football player. Thereafter I went to West Virginia State University
• 25:15
Speaker 7: football player there, criminal justice major law school, Southern Southern University,
• 25:20
Speaker 7: Loston in Louisiana. Came back to my hometown, West Virginia, Charles,
• 25:23
Speaker 7: West Virginia. Worked at the federal court.
• 25:25
Speaker 3: Let me jump in. Everyone say, I want to ask you,
• 25:27
Speaker 3: but I want to ask you a question. Why did
• 25:28
Speaker 3: you come back? Man?
• 25:29
Speaker 7: I love West Virginia and I wanted to come back
• 25:32
Speaker 7: home because I thought I could make a difference here,
• 25:34
Speaker 7: and I you know, and I love being here. It's
• 25:37
Speaker 7: it's just really a great place to raise a family.
• 25:39
Speaker 3: Because so many people with your your education, your experience
• 25:43
Speaker 3: a delegate, don't come back to West Virginia. That's why
• 25:45
Speaker 3: I wanted to ask you. But you can continue on
• 25:46
  Speaker 3: with your bio.
• 25:47
  Speaker 2: Go ahead.
• 25:47
Speaker 7: Yeah again. I worked at the federal court system. I've
• 25:51
Speaker 7: been a magister judge here in Kanall County. I was
• 25:54
Speaker 7: on the West Virginia Parole Board, adjunct criminal justice professor,
• 25:58
Speaker 7: and currently the West Virginia c i T Project director.
• 26:02
Speaker 7: So we work at the intersection of law enforcement, mental health,
• 26:04
Speaker 7: and sud in order to build a better response to
• 26:07
Speaker 7: persons in crisis. I'm married to doctor Alisha Lewis. She's
• 26:10
Speaker 7: the Charity Education Department at West Virginia State and we
• 26:13
  Speaker 7: have four daughters.
• 26:14
Speaker 3: Happy, happy family. There, it sounds like, so what makes
• 26:17
Speaker 3: you the better choice for the voters?
• 26:19
Speaker 7: Again, as you can see from my bio, I've been
• 26:21
Speaker 7: working in public service for a long time. I'm for
• 26:24
Speaker 7: the people. This is a common sense approach. I do
• 26:26
Speaker 7: not represent special interests. I represent the people, and I
• 26:29
Speaker 7: think we have to have leadership that's gonna you know,

• 32:11
Speaker 3: say you can check that out. What's your calls? In

Speaker 3: text with Hoppy Metro News talk Line ten oh six
• 32:16
Speaker 3: from the encob Insurance studios in the Dale Miller building
• 32:19
Speaker 3: in Morgantown, we had a text that was intended for
• 32:22
Speaker 3: Hollis Lewis, but unfortunately he already left and I did
• 32:26
Speaker 3: not get a chance to ask him what the question was.
• 32:29
Speaker 3: As a criminal justice major, what is your view of
• 32:32
Speaker 3: the defund the police movement and of the breaking and
• 32:35
Speaker 3: entering into our nation by illegal aliens? So if I
• 32:38
Speaker 3: can get Hollis Lewis back on the show, I will
• 32:40
Speaker 3: ask him that question. As a criminal justice major. Though
• 32:44
  Speaker 3: I can't speak for Hollis Lewis, I'm gonna say he's
• 32:46
Speaker 3: probably not for defunding the police, just saying I'm just
• 32:49
Speaker 3: gonna say that. Text says Dear Dave. How about an
• 32:52
Speaker 3: update on the NFC East standings? Any comments? No?
• 32:56
  Speaker 6: No.
• 32:57
Speaker 3: My Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football last night, going
• 33:00
Speaker 3: in to San Francisco against a team that they should
• 33:02
Speaker 3: have beaten because the forty nine ers are pretty banged up,
• 33:05
Speaker 3: as are the Cowboys at this point. And Dak did
• 33:09
Speaker 3: Dak things last night? Did not have a good game
• 33:11
Speaker 3: and Dallas loses to the forty nine Ers thirty to
• 33:14
Speaker 3: twenty four. And Sunday Night football last night, I stayed
• 33:17
Speaker 3: awake and watched the entire game for some reason. I
• 33:20
Speaker 3: don't know why, but being a Cowboys fan, it's kind
• 33:23
Speaker 3: of like a it's kind of a sickness, you know.
• 33:26
  Speaker 3: It's a sickness that I've had since I was seven
• 33:28
Speaker 3: years old, and everything I have. I'm sitting here looking
• 33:31
Speaker 3: at my cell phone that's got a Cowboys screensaver on it,
• 33:34
Speaker 3: my wallet that I carry has got a Cowboys star
• 33:36
Speaker 3: on it, my desk upstairs. You know, everywhere you look,
• 33:40
Speaker 3: Cowboys helmets, Cowboys stuff everywhere. It just doesn't do well,
• 33:45
Speaker 3: just doesn't do me any good. It seems Election Day
• 33:48
Speaker 3: is one week and a day away, and I do
• 33:51
Speaker 3: want to remind you that coming up next Monday, we're
• 33:55
Speaker 3: going to be doing something a little bit different here
• 33:57
Speaker 3: on the show. I have invited the the two candidates
• 34:00
Speaker 3: for Knawh County Commission, the Republican Chris Walters and the
• 34:04
Speaker 3: Democrat Natalie Tenant, to come in studio in something that
• 34:08
  Speaker 3: we are calling a forum. It's not a debate. I've
• 34:14
Speaker 3: talked to Miss Tennant and mister Walters both. It's not
• 34:19
Speaker 3: really going to be a debate. It's just going to
• 34:20
Speaker 3: be a discussion about the issues. And I will say
• 34:23
Speaker 3: this that, and again, we're a week and a day
• 34:25
Speaker 3: away and a lot of things can happen between now
• 34:28
Speaker 3: and election day. But this has been a very very
• 34:31
Speaker 3: clean campaign between Natalie Tenant and Chris Walters for County
• 34:35
Speaker 3: commission here in KANAWHK County. So they agreed that they're
• 34:38
Speaker 3: going to sit down for me with me next Monday
• 34:41
Speaker 3: for about thirty minutes just to talk about the issues.
• 34:45
Speaker 3: And I don't anticipate it being nasty at all, because,
• 34:49
Speaker 3: as I said, the campaign at least so far, has
• 34:53
Speaker 3: been very calm and very civil, something that in my opinion,
• 34:58
Speaker 3: we could use a heck of a lot more of
• 35:00
Speaker 3: in politics. You know, maybe maybe the people in Washington
• 35:06
Speaker 3: could learn something from what these two have been able
• 35:09
Speaker 3: to do so far. Fingers crossed in Kanah County. The
• 35:14
Speaker 3: way this is going to work is I will be
• 35:17
Speaker 3: reading your text questions to them, but it's only going
• 35:20
Speaker 3: to be on the issues only. We're not going to
• 35:23
Speaker 3: get into national politics, so we don't need to have
• 35:27
Speaker 3: the words Trump or Harris mentioned, because as a Knawah
• 35:29
Speaker 3: County Commissioner, while they may each have their own views
• 35:34
Speaker 3: on national politics and the border and inflation, they really
• 35:39
Speaker 3: don't have a whole lot to do with that here
• 35:41
Speaker 3: as a can they they're more concerned. The commission is
• 35:44
Speaker 3: more concerned with water projects and bridges and so on
• 35:47
Speaker 3: and so forth, not not with national stuff. So you're
• 35:50
Speaker 3: welcome next week to text in the questions for Chris
• 35:55
Speaker 3: Walters or Natalie Tenant. But if I see the word Trump,
• 35:58
Speaker 3: or if I see these national hot button issues, we
• 36:02
Speaker 3: don't need to ask a candidate for knaw Candy Commission
• 36:05
Speaker 3: how they feel about abortion. Okay, that's that's just an
• 36:07
Speaker 3: example of something. So again we're just going to kind
• 36:12
Speaker 3: of keep it on the stuff here. So no mention
• 36:14
Speaker 3: of Trump, no mention of Harris, just on the issues
• 36:17
Speaker 3: that are important to Kanawk County and something they can
• 36:19
Speaker 3: actually do something about. So I want to say hats
• 36:22
Speaker 3: off to both candidates for agreeing to do this, by
• 36:27
Speaker 3: the way, because they didn't have to. And I talked
• 36:29
Speaker 3: to Natalie Tenant about it first, and then Chris Walters
• 36:33
Speaker 3: was in the station last week, and then I put
• 36:36
Speaker 3: a call in to Miss Tenant, and we've kind of
• 36:38
Speaker 3: agreed on a on a basic format. I'll be you know,
• 36:40
Speaker 3: tweaking it between now and then. It's gonna be a
• 36:42
Speaker 3: real simple and I will say as I said, You're
• 36:45
Speaker 3: welcome to texts questions in at that time or if
• 36:48
Speaker 3: you want to make sure you get him in. If
• 36:50
Speaker 3: you text them now, they're going to get pushed so
• 36:53
Speaker 3: far down the computer here, I'm probably not going to
• 36:54
Speaker 3: see him by next week. So if you want to,
• 36:56
Speaker 3: if you have a question on your mind right now
• 36:59
Speaker 3: for Natalie Tennant or Chris Walters, the best thing to
• 37:01
Speaker 3: do would be to drop me an email. My email
• 37:03
Speaker 3: address is Dave dot Allen at WV radio dot com,
• 37:07
Speaker 3: Dave dot Allen wvradio dot com. And I will save
• 37:11
Speaker 3: those and I will come in with those next week.
• 37:13
Speaker 3: But again I'm going to be selective about what I've
• 37:15
Speaker 3: asked them. I'm only going to ask them things that
• 37:18
Speaker 3: they can actually do something about. As a member of
• 37:21
Speaker 3: the canaw Canny Commission. That's could becoming a bit about
• 37:23
Speaker 3: thirty to forty minute conversation that will be next Monday,
• 37:26
Speaker 3: one week from today, on the show Bigley Pigli Wiggly
• 37:29
Speaker 3: hotline three zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight.
• 37:32
Speaker 3: Tony the Taylor Text three zero four nine three five
• 37:35
Speaker 3: five zero zero eight. Speaking of candidates, if you are
• 37:39
Speaker 3: a candidate, or you know of someone you're working with
• 37:43
Speaker 3: a campaign, or you feel very strongly it's a family
• 37:45
Speaker 3: member whatever that's running for election. As you know, I
• 37:49
Speaker 3: offer up free time on the show as a candidate.
• 37:52
Speaker 3: One time for a free slot on the show. But
• 37:57
Speaker 3: here's the thing, you know. I had Delegate Hollist Lewis
• 37:59
Speaker 3: on as a candidate earlier on Tuesday show. Tomorrow show,
• 38:04
Speaker 3: I'll have a delegate jab Akers who is sitting delegate
• 38:06
Speaker 3: but is up for reelection. He'll be on the show.
• 38:09
Speaker 3: I've got a few more candidates scheduled throughout the week.
• 38:12
Speaker 3: If you want to be on the show as a candidate,
• 38:15
Speaker 3: you know the questions where I say, who are you,
• 38:17
Speaker 3: why are you running, what do you hope to accomplish?
• 38:19
Speaker 3: So on and so forth. You got to get with me,
• 38:22
Speaker 3: like in the next like thirty minutes. Okay, because the
• 38:25
Speaker 3: slots are filling up quickly, I will make time available
• 38:29
Speaker 3: for any candidate that wants to come on the show,
• 38:32
Speaker 3: But you got to get on the schedule, and the
• 38:36
Speaker 3: schedule is filling up. I only have a few slots
• 38:37
Speaker 3: to be honest with you, between now and Friday. Monday
• 38:42
Speaker 3: will be kind of That day's kind of taken care
• 38:44
Speaker 3: of because we're going to have the candidates forum between
• 38:47
Speaker 3: Natalie Tenant Chris Walters. Then after it's the first Monday
• 38:50
Speaker 3: of the month, which means Mayor Amy Goodwin will be
• 38:52
Speaker 3: in the studio, So Monday's off so I can get
• 38:54
Speaker 3: you in. Maybe I got to pull up the schedule
• 38:58
Speaker 3: here tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday or on election Day.
• 39:01
Speaker 3: A lot of candidates don't like to be on election day,
• 39:04
Speaker 3: but I'm just saying I will make I'll do my
• 39:08
Speaker 3: best to make time available for you. Again, the best
• 39:10
Speaker 3: way to get with me about being a candidate, or
• 39:12
Speaker 3: if you're a candidate, being on the show as a
• 39:14
Speaker 3: guest is just email me Dave dot Allenwvradio dot com,
• 39:18
Speaker 3: Dave dot ALLENWV radio dot com, and I will do
• 39:20
Speaker 3: my best to try to get you on the schedule,
• 39:23
Speaker 3: tex says Dave. Just breaking. Federal prison officials say and
• 39:29
Speaker 3: interagency operation is underway at a troubled New York jail
• 39:33
Speaker 3: that houses Sean Diddy Combs going to be associated press.
• 39:36
  Speaker 3: I don't know about that. I don't know. I haven't
• 39:42
Speaker 3: heard that. Uh have you early voted yet? Turnout has
• 39:48
Speaker 3: been incredible in the area from what I am told now.
• 39:53
Speaker 3: My wife and I early voted this past Saturday at
• 39:56
Speaker 3: Valley Park at Putnam County. There's two locations of Putnam
• 39:59
Speaker 3: County that you can early vote. One is the courthouse
• 40:02
Speaker 3: in Winfield and the other is that the Valley Park
• 40:04
Speaker 3: Conference Center. She and I went down ten ten thirty
• 40:07
Speaker 3: or so maybe on Saturday morning, and we had to
• 40:11
Speaker 3: wait around about thirty minutes or so to get into
• 40:15
Speaker 3: the actual area to vote. Now, if you're familiar at
• 40:20
Speaker 3: all with Valley Park, it's the conference center. You enter
• 40:23
Speaker 3: into a large hallway, and there were other events going
• 40:25
Speaker 3: on that day as well. It's a very busy place,
• 40:27
Speaker 3: other events not related to the election. But we waited,
• 40:31
Speaker 3: i'd say about thirty minutes or so to early vote.
• 40:34
Speaker 3: At any given time when we left, there was probably
• 40:37
Speaker 3: I'm going to guess maybe forty to fifty people in line.
• 40:39
Speaker 3: Of course, Saturdays tend to be very popular for early
• 40:43
Speaker 3: voting anyway, and you had this past Saturday, and you've
• 40:47
Speaker 3: got another Saturday this coming Saturday to early vote. And
• 40:51
Speaker 3: Putnam County, the early voting, generally speaking, adheres to the
• 40:56
Speaker 3: schedule of the courthouse. And in Putnam County the courthouse
• 41:01
Speaker 3: is opened later on Thursday evening. So and if I
• 41:04
Speaker 3: am incorrect, somebody can correct me on this. I think
• 41:07
Speaker 3: in Putnham County on Thursday evening you can early vote
• 41:09
Speaker 3: up until seven o'clock because that goes along with the
• 41:12
Speaker 3: normal hours of the courthouse. They stay opened an hour
• 41:14
Speaker 3: later in Putnham County, and so it'll be a ttill
• 41:18
Speaker 3: seven o'clock and then you'll have, of course nine to
• 41:21
Speaker 3: five the other days, and then on Saturday you can
• 41:23
Speaker 3: early vote as well. But as I said, there was
• 41:25
Speaker 3: about fifty people or so in line, very neat, orderly
• 41:29
Speaker 3: process to get my wife and I in and out

Speaker 3: the door once we Once we got in there, big
• 41:35
Speaker 3: props to Brian Wood, the county clerk. He just runs
• 41:37
Speaker 3: a well oiled machine there to get people in. No
• 41:40
Speaker 3: issues at all. The line was moving in an orderly fashion.
• 41:44
Speaker 3: They came out and they asked people that were waiting
• 41:48
Speaker 3: in line if they had some sort of a health
• 41:50
Speaker 3: issue and couldn't sit or couldn't stand, I should say
• 41:53
Speaker 3: they offered them. They gave them a number, gave them
• 41:55
Speaker 3: a place to sit. Some people were nice enough to
• 41:58
Speaker 3: allow people to jump in front of them if they were,
• 42:00
Speaker 3: you know, a person that had mobility issues, which is
• 42:03
Speaker 3: something I can relate to here recently, by the way.
• 42:07
Speaker 3: So just just a great job. So hats off to
• 42:10
Speaker 3: Putnam County Clerk Brian Wood and the staff there because
• 42:13
Speaker 3: it was very, very orderly process. I will say it
• 42:16
Speaker 3: probably probably was the the longest line that I have
• 42:26
Speaker 3: faced since I moved to Putnam County. And I think
• 42:29
Speaker 3: I've lived in Putnham County for ten years and I
• 42:31
Speaker 3: think I've only voted on election day one time. The
• 42:35
Speaker 3: other times I voted when it was the last year
• 42:37
Speaker 3: I did early voting, and it was it was a
• 42:41
Speaker 3: process' like I said, about thirty thirty minutes or so,
• 42:43
Speaker 3: in line, but very orderly, you know, and you get
• 42:46
Speaker 3: to know people and talk to people and so on
• 42:47
Speaker 3: and so forth. No issues there. So hats off again
• 42:51
Speaker 3: to Brian Wood and the folks with Putnam County. I
• 42:54
Speaker 3: haven't heard any issues from Knawa County or any of
• 42:56
Speaker 3: the other counties for that matter. Either let me see
• 43:01
Speaker 3: Texas when is mayor good one good to be on again? Well,
• 43:03
Speaker 3: she'll be on next Monday. I have an issue with
• 43:06
Speaker 3: cars lining up at one point fifteen for a child
• 43:09
Speaker 3: pick up at Wholes Elementary School and blocking Louden Heights
• 43:12
Speaker 3: Road to through traffic. Hopefully she and the police and
• 43:15
Speaker 3: the Canawa County School System can figure something out. You know,
• 43:19
Speaker 3: this is a problem, and then the big the big
• 43:22
Speaker 3: picture of things. I don't know that it's a major issue,
• 43:25
Speaker 3: but I know exactly what this person is talking about
• 43:28
Speaker 3: because I have you've heard me on this show because
• 43:31
Speaker 3: I'm grumpy old man yelling at clouds. You know, uh,
• 43:34
Speaker 3: with this sort of thing that I face in Putnam
• 43:38
Speaker 3: County as well. And it's parents taking kids to school
• 43:43
Speaker 3: and sometimes not thinking. Not all parents, by any stretching
• 43:46
Speaker 3: the imagination. Don't hit me up with any hate text
• 43:48
Speaker 3: or hate mail or anything here. Not all parents, but
• 43:51
Speaker 3: many parents who think they're the only people that are
• 43:54
Speaker 3: out on the road and they think nothing of blocking
• 43:57
Speaker 3: the road. This happens, happens all the time. So I
• 44:00
Speaker 3: will make sure that the mayor sees your text. Texter
• 44:04

• 44:06

• 49:52
Speaker 3: and Delegate Mike Pushkin. That will be he will be
• 49:55
Speaker 3: with me here in the studio. Should be interesting. The
• 49:58
Speaker 3: debate is from seven to eight, with the post debate
• 50:01
Speaker 3: show with all the characters I mentioned earlier airing from
• 50:04
Speaker 3: April nine on Metro News online, on air and on WCHS.
• 50:08
Speaker 3: Speaking of radio. I had to laugh when I was
• 50:15
Speaker 3: reading Phil Cabler's column in the gazet Mail on Saturday.
• 50:19
Speaker 3: He was talking about the Morrisse c. Williams debate and
• 50:22
Speaker 3: said his words, mister Cadler's words, it would air on
• 50:26
Speaker 3: the antiquated medium of terrestrial radio. That's his words. I
• 50:34
Speaker 3: guess he didn't bother to do the research to find
• 50:36
Speaker 3: that the debate, as I said earlier, was also being
• 50:39
Speaker 3: streamed on Metro News TV as well as the website.
• 50:42
Speaker 3: And I found out later on the Facebook page of
• 50:45
Speaker 3: WCCHS Television. No relation. I mean, I guess at this
• 50:49
Speaker 3: point you should probably shouldn't expect anything else for Phil Kbler.
• 50:53
Speaker 3: I do find it ironic though, that someone who writes
• 50:56
Speaker 3: for a newspaper would refer to radio as being antiquated.
• 51:03
Speaker 3: And look, I'm not a newspaper hater, Okay, Doug scaff
• 51:05
Speaker 3: Doug Reynolds. They love me because I'm one of the
• 51:08
Speaker 3: few people that gets the hard copy of the Gazette
• 51:11
Speaker 3: mail delivered to my paper box every morning and normally,
• 51:14
Speaker 3: of course they don't print on Mondays. Usually you come
• 51:16
  Speaker 3: in my studio, you'll see I have a I have
• 51:18
Speaker 3: a hard copy of the gazet Mail sitting right here
• 51:21
Speaker 3: in front of me, and I will continue to do so.
• 51:24
Speaker 3: I just like to have a hard copy of the paper,
• 51:26
Speaker 3: same with books. But but, but, but, Cadler, come on,
• 51:30
Speaker 3: I mean you actually felt the need to be little
• 51:37
Speaker 3: and refer to us as as antiquated. I mean, it's
• 51:42
Speaker 3: pretty pretty petty there, my friend. And I promise you
• 51:47
Speaker 3: that the folks at the HDHD Media, the parent company
• 51:51
Speaker 3: of the Gazette Mail, would would never refer to radio
• 51:54
Speaker 3: as being antiquated. They have both been on this show
• 51:57
Speaker 3: and they appreciate what radio still offers, as well as
• 52:00
Speaker 3: I appreciate what the Gazette Mail offers. We're all in
• 52:04
Speaker 3: this together. It's cabboard. Grow up, grew up a little bit.
• 52:12
Speaker 3: Tex says. As of today, US national debt stands at
• 52:14
Speaker 3: thirty five point eight three trillion dollars. Neither Trump or
• 52:17
Speaker 3: Harris has mentioned it at all, at least that I
• 52:19
Speaker 3: can find. This is extremely disappointing. One week and a
• 52:24
Speaker 3: day from election day, some new polling numbers out CNN
• 52:26
Speaker 3: has the race as of yesterday debt even between Harris
• 52:29
Speaker 3: and Trump too close to call. According to their numbers.
• 52:31
Speaker 3: The new York Times and Sienna also say the race
• 52:34
Speaker 3: is even. While a new poll from Reuters and ipsodes
• 52:36
Speaker 3: have Harris up by three and a new pole from
• 52:38
Speaker 3: The Wall Street Journal has Trump up by two. Keep
• 52:41
Speaker 3: in mind that all those police sources, the ones that
• 52:43
Speaker 3: have you that Trump or Harrison the lead, that lead
• 52:46
Speaker 3: is well within the margin of error. So going to
• 52:50
Speaker 3: be interesting to see what happens one week and to
• 52:52
Speaker 3: day from tomorrow. Coming up on the show tomorrow, Delegate
• 52:54
Speaker 3: jb Acres will be stopped by Rich The Reels here
• 52:57
Speaker 3: is here as well. Plus we continue to check in
• 52:59
