- 0:00Speaker 1: We get going now. Live show today from Gatlinburg, Tennessee
- 0:04Speaker 1: and right here in Birmingham, Alabama is the next round.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Right here on Sport and State presented by our friends
- 0:11Speaker 1: at Hard Rock Bet. I'll tell you about Hard Rock Bet.
- 0:13Speaker 1: We'll get into what we saw last night. All that
- 0:16Speaker 1: offense that we saw in the Brewers-Dodgers game. More offense
- 0:20Speaker 1: than you saw in the Broncos and Seahawks. And an
- 0:23Speaker 1: exciting win for UAB down the stretch here locally. And
- 0:26Speaker 1: it's a massive weekend in college football coming up with
- 0:30Speaker 1: six ranked games. Rank on rank, six of them this week.
- 0:34Speaker 1: That includes Alabama at Tennessee. Just down the road from
- 0:39Speaker 1: where the boys are at the Tennessee Shine Company. Rise
- 0:42Speaker 1: and shine, guys, at the Shine Company. How are you today?
- 0:47Speaker 2: Really, really good.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Our first shine of the day. We've got the cheers.
- 0:50Speaker 3: We've got a bloody merry moonshine, by the way.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I have been.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Told that there are over 50 different variations of moonshine.
- 0:58Speaker 3: And in the final hour, I am going to try
- 1:00Speaker 3: to do all 50.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I'd like to see it, actually.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yeah, green each of them. I'll give that a B.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And truthfully, Forrester would tell you that may help your
- 1:10Speaker 1: pick three picks.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Wow. What a shot out of the five.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Had a winning pick three. I didn't get a ball
- 1:18Speaker 3: in the bucket, but I did go two and one.
- 1:19Speaker 3: So coming out with a three and oh today. Feel really,
- 1:22Speaker 3: really good about the pick.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I would say that only as the guy who went
- 1:25Speaker 1: oh and three last week. And I promised Forster that
- 1:28Speaker 1: I spent most of my morning coming up with three winners, too.
- 1:31Speaker 1: So I'll give you my three winners coming up later
- 1:34Speaker 1: on when we do the pick three. But it is
- 1:36Speaker 1: up and rolling for you. And Brooks will drop a
- 1:38Speaker 1: link in the chat room today right there at nextroundlive.com. NextRoundLive.com. Okay,
- 1:45Speaker 1: let's start first by you guys just telling me what
- 1:48Speaker 1: the atmosphere is up there. In Gatlinburg, you get a
- 1:51Speaker 1: nice mix of Alabama and Tennessee fans. I know you
- 1:55Speaker 1: guys were about a mid-evening arrival last night before you
- 1:59Speaker 1: went to the cabin, though. You went down to the
- 2:00Speaker 1: Shine Company to check in. Any early vibe on the
- 2:03Speaker 1: excitement about Bama and Tennessee?
- 2:07Speaker 2: Well, it was kind of dead last night when we
- 2:09Speaker 2: got into town, but boy, it has come alive this morning.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Lance is blown away that at 10 o'clock Eastern time,
- 2:13Speaker 2: we're Eastern time here, 10 o'clock Eastern time, to our
- 2:16Speaker 2: left is Gatlinburg Parkway. So Tennessee Shine Company is right
- 2:19Speaker 2: on the parkway, the main strip in Gatlinburg there. Lance,
- 2:22Speaker 2: would you call this bumper-to-bumper stopped traffic right now? Yeah,
- 2:26Speaker 2: I think one of the old military terms, nut-to-butt. Nut-to-butt, yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 2: That is what you have got on this strip.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I mean, it is insane, the activity this early, I
- 2:35Speaker 3: guess 10 o'clock Eastern time. But last night, Dunaway, I
- 2:39Speaker 3: saw a lot of Tennessee. I didn't see any Alabama. Yeah,
- 2:41Speaker 3: I've seen some more Alabama this morning. They've been up
- 2:44Speaker 3: early and out moving around, and you get a lot
- 2:46Speaker 3: of that. This game happens every other year up here
- 2:49Speaker 3: for Alabama fans, so you get a lot of them
- 2:50Speaker 3: to either come and stay in Pigeon Forge or they
- 2:52Speaker 3: stay here in Gatlinburg for a couple days, make it
- 2:55Speaker 3: a little extended weekend, and then just head over to
- 2:57Speaker 3: Knoxville on game day. That's one of the things about
- 3:00Speaker 3: being here in Gatlinburg at Tennessee Shine Company. You're going
- 3:02Speaker 3: to see a lot of Bama fans milling around as
- 3:04Speaker 3: the day goes and just enjoying Gatlinburg, Tennessee's gorgeous weather. Yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 3: I thought one of the incredible things last night, we
- 3:11Speaker 3: went to a local sports bar to watch, you know,
- 3:13Speaker 3: my Dodgers get swept out and watch a little bit
- 3:16Speaker 3: of the Seahawks and Broncos. And there was like 15
- 3:20Speaker 3: Brewers fans, one dude. like full uniform, basically, alternative hat on.
- 3:26Speaker 2: No Dodger fans. You were the only Dodger fan. Yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 2: and of course, you know, there was nothing to cheer about.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know how I would know who
- 3:32Speaker 2: were Dodger fans. Nothing good happened.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I think you guys, we all do. We all get
- 3:36Speaker 1: a little skewed on how many Dodger and or Rams
- 3:40Speaker 1: fans there are in the South because we are so
- 3:44Speaker 1: Lance adjacent that we hear so much about the Rams
- 3:47Speaker 1: and Dodgers. I don't think there's a lot of people
- 3:49Speaker 1: that live in the South that love the L.A.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Teams.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I mean, we are close to the biggest fan of
- 3:55Speaker 1: the world for the Rams and Dodgers. So you're still
- 3:57Speaker 1: in the deep south there in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. So I
- 3:59Speaker 1: wouldn't expect there's a lot of– I would say there's
- 4:02Speaker 1: more L.A. hate than there is L.A.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Love. But these are Brewer fans. I mean, to Lance's point,
- 4:07Speaker 2: like you've been in a sports bar, Dunaway, when a
- 4:10Speaker 2: game's going on, and when something happens to cheer, the
- 4:13Speaker 2: whole bar was– I mean, like at first, when we
- 4:15Speaker 2: first walked in, the Seahawks and Broncos were on, and
- 4:19Speaker 2: I thought they were cheering for that. I just assumed
- 4:20Speaker 2: they were cheering for the NFL game. No, it was
- 4:22Speaker 2: the baseball game. And there was like, Lance is right.
- 4:24Speaker 2: They're like 15 to 20. legit Brewers fans in there. Yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 2: It was crazy.
- 4:30Speaker 3: One guy had his, you know, a row back, uh,
- 4:33Speaker 3: Wisconsin collared shirt on. So like, you know, I guess
- 4:36Speaker 3: it was just maybe a bunch of people came in
- 4:38Speaker 3: from Wisconsin for whatever reason to visit Gatlinburg this weekend.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I do think that I do agree with you done with,
- 4:44Speaker 3: there's a lot of anti Dodgers fans, which I get that.
- 4:47Speaker 3: If you don't like the Dodger, or if you're not
- 4:49Speaker 3: a Dodgers fan, you absolutely hate that organization.
- 4:51Speaker 2: And now you ain't got to worry about them with
- 4:53Speaker 2: the three P that's right. That's right.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And you know, Probably the Rams will be back, but
- 4:58Speaker 1: the Dodgers are out with Milwaukee sweeping them. We'll talk
- 5:01Speaker 1: about what we saw last night. Troy is with me
- 5:04Speaker 1: in the chat room. We hate them. LA is basically
- 5:08Speaker 1: Yankees to us here in the South. We don't like
- 5:10Speaker 1: anything in the North, and we don't like anything in Hollywood.
- 5:14Speaker 1: That includes the sports team. A lot of people cheering
- 5:17Speaker 1: for the Brewers last night. I would say vacationing in
- 5:20Speaker 1: the Smoky Mountains, more likely people to drive down from
- 5:23Speaker 1: Wisconsin to do that than from out in L.A. flying
- 5:26Speaker 1: into a local airport and tripping over to the to
- 5:29Speaker 1: the hillbilly mountains of Tennessee.
- 5:32Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Our friends at Hard Rock Bet before we see what
- 5:34Speaker 1: we did last night on the sports turf and on
- 5:38Speaker 1: the diamond last night, our friends at Hard Rock Bet
- 5:40Speaker 1: there for you. They're Florida's only legal sports book, making
- 5:44Speaker 1: them the most trustworthy option in the market. But it's
- 5:47Speaker 1: not just in Florida. As our guys up there realize,
- 5:50Speaker 1: you can drive across the border there in Alabama, jump
- 5:53Speaker 1: into Tennessee, and instantly download the Hard Rock Bet app
- 5:57Speaker 1: in Tennessee as well, where right now new customers can
- 6:00Speaker 1: bet $ 5 and get up to $ 500 in no-sweat bets.
- 6:04Speaker 1: All you have to do is go to hardrock.bet backslash clay. Now,
- 6:08Speaker 1: that helps us out the most. If you do that,
- 6:10Speaker 1: when you go to hardrock.bet backslash clay, That way we
- 6:14Speaker 1: get some credit for that. But it's not just Florida
- 6:16Speaker 1: and it's not just Tennessee. If you're watching this or
- 6:19Speaker 1: listening in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio,
- 6:24Speaker 1: and Virginia, you can jump in and play the great
- 6:27Speaker 1: games at Hard Rock Bet. New features, app updates, and
- 6:30Speaker 1: promos all right there at hardrock.bet backslash clay. Several people
- 6:36Speaker 1: right there in the chat room, they say that the
- 6:41Speaker 1: Seahawks and the Broncos are That should be their uniforms permanently,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and I agree.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it was my takeaway from that game. The game
- 6:48Speaker 2: itself was low scoring and not an offensive shootout. Obviously
- 6:53Speaker 2: came down to the very end, nearing almost going to overtime.
- 6:58Speaker 2: But my takeaway, and Lance will tell you this, when
- 6:59Speaker 2: we sat down on the sports board just down the
- 7:01Speaker 2: street here from Tennessee Shine Company, I looked at him
- 7:04Speaker 2: and our host here, Richard Holland, who is with Tennessee
- 7:07Speaker 2: Shine Company, a great friend of ours, a tremendous host,
- 7:10Speaker 2: and I said, That should be their uniforms every Sunday. Yeah,
- 7:13Speaker 2: and I think it's a no-brainer. I mean, those uniforms.
- 7:15Speaker 3: And I don't know if it's just something nostalgic that,
- 7:18Speaker 3: you know, we look back at the uniforms that we
- 7:19Speaker 3: grew up with, but those are just good football uniforms.
- 7:23Speaker 3: And as far as the game is concerned, this Denver
- 7:26Speaker 3: offense is broken out. Look, they found a way to
- 7:28Speaker 3: win the game, but you go.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Sean Payton took back over. They didn't score 40.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Three of 14 on third down. They had 168 total yards.
- 7:38Speaker 3: They had 13 first downs. I mean, it just was
- 7:41Speaker 3: a terrible offensive performance, and Sam Darnold bailed them out.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Those two late picks that he threw, one in the
- 7:46Speaker 3: fourth quarter and one in overtime, that was the Sam
- 7:49Speaker 3: Darnold that was seeing ghosts back with the Jets.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that was such a terrible throw in overtime, didn't it?
- 7:55Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know. I mean, I don't know
- 7:58Speaker 2: how you turn it over in overtime and win. I
- 8:00Speaker 2: doubt that ever happens. But, boy, that turnover, that was
- 8:03Speaker 2: just an awful throw. Let's go back to Bo Nix
- 8:05Speaker 2: because that's a huge story. Ryan Fitzpatrick on the broadcast
- 8:09Speaker 2: last night postgame. Quote, it is almost disrespectful.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I'll start over. Quote from Ryan Fitzpatrick. It is almost
- 8:18Speaker 1: disrespectful to the quarterback position how he's playing football right now.
- 8:23Speaker 1: That's Ryan Fitzpatrick on the broadcast last night about Bo Nix.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Uh, Bo Nix is, is, is not play. I mean, he's,
- 8:30Speaker 3: he's just bad right now and it, it doesn't make
- 8:32Speaker 3: a lot of sense. I mean, you've seen fourth quarter
- 8:34Speaker 3: Bo and you saw it against the Rams on that
- 8:37Speaker 3: Sunday night. He can pull some of these games.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Out of his ass.
- 8:40Speaker 3: He did against the Jacksonville Jaguars. I mean, they've got
- 8:42Speaker 3: quality wins. They're sitting at four and two. They beat
- 8:44Speaker 3: in the Jags. They beat in the Rams. They beat
- 8:46Speaker 3: in the Seahawks. Um, but he's just not playing good
- 8:49Speaker 3: football and he was playing really, really good football before
- 8:51Speaker 3: the ankle injury last year.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Um, were bottom 10 quarterback in the NFL? Is it
- 8:56Speaker 2: that bad? You think guys? Uh, yeah.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I think it's done away. You think it's bottom 10?
- 9:01Speaker 1: I don't know enough about it to rank them that way,
- 9:04Speaker 1: but I know there's a lot of bad quarterback play
- 9:07Speaker 1: in the NFL at times. Um, and he's, he's on
- 9:10Speaker 1: a team that's four and two. So I always go
- 9:12Speaker 1: with the win loss column when it comes to quarterbacks.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Are you doing what you need to do to help
- 9:18Speaker 1: your team win games or to not lose games is
- 9:20Speaker 1: what it comes down to. Like Sam Darnold, You guys
- 9:23Speaker 1: would say he's a better quarterback, I guess, than Bo Nix,
- 9:25Speaker 1: but Sam Darnold cost his team the game last night.
- 9:29Speaker 2: That's right. He is a better quarterback at times than
- 9:32Speaker 2: Bo Nix, but to Jim's point, Bo Nix wasn't the
- 9:35Speaker 2: one out there in overtime throwing the interception.
- 9:37Speaker 3: They scored 29 at home last week against the best
- 9:39Speaker 3: team in the NFL in San Francisco, but he still
- 9:41Speaker 3: turned the football over three times. You go back to
- 9:43Speaker 3: the Commander's loss, which was baffling. They turned it over
- 9:46Speaker 3: four times, so he's not protecting the football as good
- 9:49Speaker 3: as Dornan was last year.
- 9:50Speaker 2: He's losing a little bit of that. They're going to
- 9:52Speaker 2: blame it on Ryan.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Flory, the guy that looks like a Russian mobster, the
- 9:58Speaker 3: offensive coordinator, first-year offensive coordinator.
- 10:00Speaker 2: For the Seattle Seahawks.
- 10:01Speaker 3: But, man, both of these quarterbacks, and I know, Dunaway,
- 10:05Speaker 3: you said 4-2, and I get it, but that is
- 10:08Speaker 3: the Denver defense. Without two key parts last night, they
- 10:11Speaker 3: still had five sacks. They turned over Seattle those two times.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Denver didn't turn it over. I give Bo Nix credit there.
- 10:18Speaker 3: He did throw a couple of late balls that should
- 10:20Speaker 3: have been picked, but they still had no turnovers.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah, but throughout history, you can go through guys that
- 10:26Speaker 1: just did what they had to do at that position
- 10:29Speaker 1: to keep their team from losing, and they played for
- 10:32Speaker 1: or won a Super Bowl along the way. So that's
- 10:36Speaker 1: all Denver wants right now. That's all they can hope
- 10:39Speaker 1: from Bo Nix right now is that you manage the
- 10:41Speaker 1: game and you win more than you lose. They win
- 10:44Speaker 1: last night in overtime, 17-14. and that is a team
- 10:47Speaker 1: that has elite defense. Quickly to baseball, because we want
- 10:51Speaker 1: to get to the 2014 playoff, all the great games
- 10:56Speaker 1: we have this weekend, but the 2014 playoff discussion coming
- 10:59Speaker 1: up here momentarily as we continue on the next round
- 11:02Speaker 1: brought to you by our friends at Hard Rock Bet.
- 11:04Speaker 1: In baseball, the Guardians go up 2-1 on the Rays.
- 11:08Speaker 1: They play again tonight in game four of that series,
- 11:12Speaker 1: crucial game for Tampa Bay to try to even up
- 11:14Speaker 1: the series. But the whole sports world not just baseball fans,
- 11:19Speaker 1: but the whole sports world is talking about the $ 339
- 11:25Speaker 1: million sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Brewers are
- 11:29Speaker 1: back in the World Series for the first time since 1982.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I will tell you the four starters for the L.A. Dodgers,
- 11:37Speaker 1: when you throw all their money in a pile, they
- 11:39Speaker 1: average about $ 31. 4 million a year apiece. Yamamoto makes 20.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Everybody else makes more than $ 32 million a year. They're
- 11:48Speaker 1: starting four in these losses with Scooble, Yamamoto, Snell, and Glasnow,
- 11:54Speaker 1: and they are 0-4 out the gate, done.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Well, you know I don't watch much baseball. I'm not
- 12:02Speaker 2: pretending that I do. So we're driving up here to
- 12:05Speaker 2: Knoxville and Gatlinburg, and Lance is like, hey, can we
- 12:08Speaker 2: flip on the Dodgers game, first pitch? So we flip
- 12:10Speaker 2: on Rick Monday and Charlie Steiner. And Charlie Steiner Dunaway
- 12:16Speaker 2: is like, here comes Will Smith to the plate. And
- 12:19Speaker 2: Lance is like, Brownie, he is one for 25 in
- 12:22Speaker 2: the postseason. I said, is it this your cleanup hitter?
- 12:25Speaker 2: He's like, yes, it is our cleanup hitter. He's one
- 12:28Speaker 2: of 25 in the postseason.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I got to bring these numbers up because this is
- 12:32Speaker 3: how bad the offense was for the Dodgers. Shohei ended
- 12:34Speaker 3: up hitting 192 in the postseason. Freddie Freeman, 172. Mookie Betts, 207.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Will Smith, 097. to Oscar Hernandez, 200, Max Muncy, 208,
- 12:46Speaker 3: and Kiki Hernandez, 071. I mean, nobody could swing it
- 12:50Speaker 3: for the Dodgers this postseason. And you look at the Brewers,
- 12:52Speaker 3: as good as they were in the regular season, and
- 12:54Speaker 3: they played a lot of small ball, winning 102 games,
- 12:58Speaker 3: they were 29th in home runs. So next to dead
- 13:01Speaker 3: last in the majors, they are leading this postseason with
- 13:04Speaker 3: 10 home runs, including two more yesterday. So Everything is
- 13:07Speaker 3: really coming together for this Brewers team. Not making excuses
- 13:11Speaker 3: for the Dodgers because.
- 13:12Speaker 2: There was an excuse. There are none. And they outplayed
- 13:14Speaker 2: them in the regular season.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm watching the chat room. People are like, conspiracy theory,
- 13:23Speaker 1: the Dodgers needed to throw this so the Major League
- 13:25Speaker 1: Baseball wouldn't put the salary cap in or this or that. Listen,
- 13:30Speaker 1: we're going to have a stoppage of play next year,
- 13:33Speaker 1: so the Dodgers are going to have to wear this
- 13:35Speaker 1: one probably deep into July, August. We may miss a
- 13:38Speaker 1: whole season of baseball next year. So that big payroll
- 13:42Speaker 1: is going to have to wear this one for a long,
- 13:43Speaker 1: long time there in Los Angeles. So baseball continues. Yesterday
- 13:49Speaker 1: we got big news in the 2014 playoff world. We
- 13:53Speaker 1: want to talk about that in a couple of different ways. Um,
- 13:56Speaker 1: but quickly guys, tell me again about the Tennessee shine
- 13:59Speaker 1: company and where you guys are today. Cause I see
- 14:02Speaker 1: the boxed. Is that moonshine behind you guys right now
- 14:05Speaker 1: in the two boxes?
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah. So, um, this is blue Houdini done away. They
- 14:10Speaker 2: call it the panty dropper. Oh, really? Of course they do. Yes.
- 14:14Speaker 2: That's what it says right here. The panty dropper. Yeah.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I just mind it. Cause I'm not wearing any.
- 14:20Speaker 2: This is a good stocking stuffer. Uh, this is Pina Colada.
- 14:25Speaker 2: This is Cotton Candy, and that's another Blue Houdini. And
- 14:27Speaker 2: then what they also have here is Duck Blind, which is,
- 14:31Speaker 2: this is Riley Green, Jack State Gamecock, Riley Green. This
- 14:35Speaker 2: is his brand of espresso coffee. And where we are
- 14:38Speaker 2: sitting right now is, like I said, right on the strip.
- 14:41Speaker 2: here in Gatlinburg, and they're going to be selling Riley
- 14:43Speaker 2: Green gear in here. They're building a bar upstairs. This
- 14:45Speaker 2: place is going to be really cool. There's one of
- 14:46Speaker 2: these at Pigeon Forge as well. Now, are they auctioning
- 14:49Speaker 2: Riley Green off later for a Friday night? I can't
- 14:51Speaker 2: say no to that. I wouldn't say they're not. What
- 14:53Speaker 2: do you think some of these Gatlinburg women would pay?
- 14:55Speaker 2: The line would be out the door. The line would
- 14:57Speaker 2: be out the door.
- 14:58Speaker 1: It's a great setup. More than that ride down Uber Gatlinburg.
- 15:02Speaker 1: It'll be lined up longer than that.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Correct, yes, yes.
- 15:05Speaker 3: So the tasting room opens at 10 o'clock, so it's
- 15:10Speaker 3: already open. They said about 11 or 12, it gets really,
- 15:12Speaker 3: really crowded. But you can come in, you can get
- 15:14Speaker 3: flights of eight different flavors that you can taste. It's
- 15:18Speaker 3: a really, really cool setup. And last night when we
- 15:20Speaker 3: got here, Dunaway, in the background, they had Hair Nation on.
- 15:23Speaker 2: That's right, Hair Nation. Nothing but 80s hair pants. Oh,
- 15:27Speaker 2: I love that.
- 15:28Speaker 1: That's... That's my kind of music. That's my kind of
- 15:32Speaker 1: music there.
- 15:33Speaker 2: 80s hair. Back in the AM days, Dunaway and I
- 15:36Speaker 2: used to do, was it Hairband Thursday or Power Ballad Thursday?
- 15:39Speaker 1: Power Ballad Fridays.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Power Ballad Fridays.
- 15:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:43Speaker 2: You were very close, man. Power Ballad Fridays. That was
- 15:45Speaker 2: a good way to go to the weekend.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It may have been a different day, Brownie. I'll give
- 15:48Speaker 1: that to you.
- 15:49Speaker 2: I think it was Fridays. No, I think you're right.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I think we started in the summer. We're like, hey,
- 15:52Speaker 2: feel good Friday. We're going to do some Power Ballads.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Pretend we're at PCB doing the show. A little Power
- 15:57Speaker 2: Ballad playing. Some Slaughter. Some Cinderella.
- 15:58Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:59Speaker 2: We're going to play that right now.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Hey, listen, I'm going to talk to Furman coming up
- 16:04Speaker 1: at 11 o'clock Eastern, 10 Central Hour 2. We'll go
- 16:07Speaker 1: through all the big games. But there was an exciting,
- 16:10Speaker 1: fun college football game in our market here in Birmingham
- 16:12Speaker 1: last night where UAB rallied. They trailed by 14 in
- 16:17Speaker 1: the first half. Guys, they were down 8. with just
- 16:21Speaker 1: 62 seconds. Well, they were down eight with just over
- 16:23Speaker 1: a minute, a little more than 62 seconds. They had
- 16:26Speaker 1: no timeouts. And they go 93 yards in 62 seconds
- 16:31Speaker 1: to send that thing into overtime. Then they won it
- 16:33Speaker 1: in overtime. And in a rare case, it was a
- 16:37Speaker 1: win in overtime, not by six, seven, or eight points.
- 16:40Speaker 1: It was by 30 to 17 because they walk it
- 16:42Speaker 1: off with a pick six.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I told Lance this morning, I said, you saw two
- 16:47Speaker 2: things in that game last night that you probably will
- 16:49Speaker 2: never see again. UAB had nine points with under a
- 16:53Speaker 2: minute to go and scored 30. That's pretty hard to do, right?
- 16:56Speaker 2: To have nine with under a minute to go and
- 16:57Speaker 2: score 30. And then they also won in overtime by
- 17:00Speaker 2: 13 points. Those two things combined in a game probably
- 17:04Speaker 2: have never happened. Well... The total was 49 and a half.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I can't imagine. Is that a bad beat?
- 17:09Speaker 3: Well, it didn't go over, so it stayed under, but
- 17:12Speaker 3: I can't imagine that you even had to sweat that
- 17:15Speaker 3: because this was the absolute stone-cold lock under the way
- 17:19Speaker 3: it played out. I was telling Brown, though, Dunaway, back
- 17:22Speaker 3: in 1996, I faded the Arizona State Sun Devils, and
- 17:25Speaker 3: you guys probably remember that Bruce Snyder team.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Jake Parker was the quarterback.
- 17:29Speaker 3: They go undefeated and played against them every week, and
- 17:32Speaker 3: I'll never forget late in the season, we had a
- 17:34Speaker 3: huge play on UCLA plus 12.5.
- 17:38Speaker 2: It goes to overtime.
- 17:39Speaker 3: The only way you can lose it, Arizona State scores
- 17:42Speaker 3: a touchdown in the first overtime and then a pick six,
- 17:45Speaker 3: and they win by 13.
- 17:46Speaker 2: 12.5, that is as bad a loss as you can have.
- 17:49Speaker 2: It was awful.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I mean, it was right up there with the NC
- 17:51Speaker 3: State against Vanderbilt this past year. But, I mean, what
- 17:56Speaker 3: a win for Alex Mortensen. And now four and three overall,
- 17:59Speaker 3: two and one in conference. Congratulations to him because it
- 18:02Speaker 3: seems like the culture just in one short year has
- 18:05Speaker 3: completely flowed up.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Hey, and Jim, New Jersey Ben in the chat says this,
- 18:09Speaker 2: and I think it's apparent. They play hard for Alex Mortensen.
- 18:12Speaker 2: I think that team– plays really hard for Alex that
- 18:16Speaker 2: I didn't see that type of play for Trent Dilfer.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Well, I saw it week zero, Dunaway, when, you know,
- 18:20Speaker 3: they're down to Illinois. You know, they're down to 26.
- 18:23Speaker 3: They never stopped in that game.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Yeah, 26, 27.
- 18:25Speaker 3: And, you know, they're just grinding it out on that
- 18:28Speaker 3: final possession. He gets hard play out of them. And
- 18:30Speaker 3: they've gotten better. I mean, look, they didn't play well
- 18:32Speaker 3: for three and a half years. last night, but they
- 18:35Speaker 3: were a substantial 5.5-point underdog, and they found a way
- 18:38Speaker 3: to win that game.
- 18:38Speaker 1: And they're riding that Todd Grantham defense there. Kyron says,
- 18:42Speaker 1: good win for Alex Mortensen. Caleb was at the game.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Caleb in the chat says, I left the UAB game
- 18:47Speaker 1: early because I thought it was over. I got home,
- 18:50Speaker 1: and they won in overtime. Good win by the Blazers,
- 18:53Speaker 1: and I just love seeing the support for them. It's
- 18:55Speaker 1: good to have UAB back on the radar after the
- 18:57Speaker 1: era they were in the last couple of years, 4-3,
- 19:00Speaker 1: 2-1 in the American League. as they win last night.
- 19:03Speaker 1: All right, when we come back, before we get to
- 19:05Speaker 1: the games on the field this weekend, our 2014 college
- 19:08Speaker 1: football playoff looks like it's going to start next year.
- 19:12Speaker 1: We broke that story in the second half of our
- 19:15Speaker 1: next round live show. This will give us a chance
- 19:17Speaker 1: to talk about it on the sport and state platform,
- 19:19Speaker 1: but also I want to attack it through this. What
- 19:22Speaker 1: are some of the things that we're going to be losing?
- 19:25Speaker 1: Some of the things you're concerned about. Who are we
- 19:28Speaker 1: doing this for? because we've all made a point that
- 19:31Speaker 1: it's not for the fans because the fans are not
- 19:34Speaker 1: in favor of this. If you did a poll, I
- 19:36Speaker 1: don't know if it's 8 out of 10, 9 out
- 19:38Speaker 1: of 10 fans don't want a 2014 playoff. So we'll
- 19:41Speaker 1: talk about all that when we come back on the
- 19:43Speaker 1: next round, presented by Hard Rock Bet right here on
- 19:46Speaker 1: sport and state back with you on the next round
- 19:49Speaker 1: presented by hard rock bet i'll tell you about crockett
- 19:52Speaker 1: coffee in just a second but uh lt this is
- 19:55Speaker 1: just uh my observation from afar do we have uh
- 19:59Speaker 1: a fly a gnat yeah uh what what are you
- 20:03Speaker 1: swinging at occasionally there Yeah.
- 20:05Speaker 3: It's these, they're not really fruit flies, but, you know,
- 20:09Speaker 3: if you work in bars, they top the liquor because
- 20:12Speaker 3: these flies are attracted to it. And they've done a
- 20:14Speaker 3: great job here, but there's just so many open bottles
- 20:17Speaker 3: and so many tastings going on. Some of the flies
- 20:19Speaker 3: have gotten in here. And, yeah, I just got a
- 20:21Speaker 3: video from our buddy, Jonathan Hutton, and he was walking
- 20:25Speaker 3: out of here and he shot the video of me
- 20:26Speaker 3: just swatting flies.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and there's so much traffic here at Tennessee Shine Company,
- 20:32Speaker 2: they have to basically leave the doors open. or else
- 20:35Speaker 2: it's just going to be open, close, open, close, open, close, open,
- 20:37Speaker 2: close all day. And then they've got some of the
- 20:40Speaker 2: overhead doors that open up when the weather's cooled off
- 20:43Speaker 2: a bit, Jim. So there's no barrier to the flies
- 20:46Speaker 2: getting in. And as Lance said, they're drawn to alcohol
- 20:49Speaker 2: and apparently drawn to Lance and me.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Yeah, if I could find like a dead squirrel or
- 20:53Speaker 3: rat or possum on the strip out here, I'd roll
- 20:57Speaker 3: it over in the corner just to attract the flies
- 20:59Speaker 3: to it.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I have felt like we're doing a
- 21:03Speaker 2: child hunger PSA for quite a while this morning. Sally Struthers.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Sally Struthers talking to the background.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Well, I mean, if you can fight through it, I mean,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I do appreciate y'all's service, but if you can fight
- 21:12Speaker 1: through it, we can't see him on the air. It
- 21:15Speaker 1: did look a little weird one time I looked up
- 21:17Speaker 1: and LT was swirling around in his chair, swatting him,
- 21:20Speaker 1: and I was like, yeah.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Lance is trying to Miyagi it. He keeps trying to
- 21:24Speaker 2: catch him in the air. Miyagi did it with chopsticks.
- 21:26Speaker 2: He did it with chopsticks.
- 21:27Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say. Get him some chopsticks.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Our friends at Crockett Coffee, man, I'm almost finished with
- 21:32Speaker 1: my big Yeti full of Crockett Coffee today. It's the
- 21:35Speaker 1: coffee that Clay and Buck Sexton and Buck's brother Mason
- 21:38Speaker 1: started with Davy Crockett on the label. It's American roasted,
- 21:42Speaker 1: right in the heartline of America, never sitting in a
- 21:44Speaker 1: warehouse for months and months and months. I get mine
- 21:47Speaker 1: medium roasted. You get it however you want it. You
- 21:49Speaker 1: can set up a subscription. Shows up on schedule. You
- 21:52Speaker 1: can change that anytime you want. You get free shipping
- 21:54Speaker 1: of $ 59 or more. And the best part about Crockett Coffee,
- 21:58Speaker 1: other than the great taste, is that they partner with
- 22:00Speaker 1: Tunnel to Towers, building mortgage-free homes for the families of
- 22:03Speaker 1: fallen service members. So it's good coffee, made in America,
- 22:07Speaker 1: doing some good. CrockettCoffee.com. That's C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T. CrockettCoffee.com. We appreciate them
- 22:15Speaker 1: so much. All right, to the 2014 playoff that was
- 22:18Speaker 1: announced yesterday, it is expected to start, not official yet,
- 22:21Speaker 1: but expected to start in 2027. Stuart Mandel, Bruce Feldman,
- 22:26Speaker 1: just a few of the many national media people that
- 22:30Speaker 1: keep asking, why are we doing this? Stuart Mandel is
- 22:33Speaker 1: sharing some of his text once the news was broke
- 22:37Speaker 1: by Pete Thamel of ESPN. And this is from people
- 22:40Speaker 1: in the business, but he doesn't put their names. One
- 22:43Speaker 1: text said, just sickening. One text says, a real shame.
- 22:48Speaker 1: One text said, so stupid. One text said, what's the
- 22:52Speaker 1: point of the regular season now? So let's break this down.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Instead of going big picture, let me throw some topics
- 22:59Speaker 1: at you first. The first one, do you guys think
- 23:05Speaker 1: going to a 2014 playoff that we will have better
- 23:09Speaker 1: out-of-conference scheduling like they're leading us to believe that we
- 23:14Speaker 1: will because now you've got margin for error a little bit,
- 23:18Speaker 1: so you can still make the playoffs with a loss.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Or do you think that out-of-conference scheduling, other than a
- 23:25Speaker 1: mandated game against this or that, will change greatly at all?
- 23:29Speaker 1: Do you think this changes the landscape of scheduling at all? Lance,
- 23:31Speaker 1: you first.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I do.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I think we're going to get more marquee matches because
- 23:36Speaker 3: I think going into, you know, where we are right
- 23:39Speaker 3: now currently with the 12-team playoff, if you're in the
- 23:41Speaker 3: Big Ten or the SEC, we know that magic number
- 23:43Speaker 3: is 10-2. I think going to 24, the magic number
- 23:47Speaker 3: is going to be 8-4, especially for a lot of brands,
- 23:50Speaker 3: so you can absorb a couple of losses, not a
- 23:52Speaker 3: big deal at all. And to give you an example,
- 23:54Speaker 3: and this is why this is so stupid, everybody anointed
- 23:57Speaker 3: the Rams maybe the greatest team ever, and they hadn't
- 24:00Speaker 3: played a game. Now they're 2-3. They dick around. They're
- 24:03Speaker 3: not going to make the postseason. Notre Dame going into
- 24:05Speaker 3: this season for a 24-team playoff, You could go on
- 24:08Speaker 3: and say they are in the college football playoff. There
- 24:11Speaker 3: was no chance they could lose more than three or
- 24:14Speaker 3: four games with this schedule. Really no chance. More than two.
- 24:16Speaker 3: So I do think it will diminish, obviously, a lot
- 24:19Speaker 3: of these regular season games. But I do think, to
- 24:21Speaker 3: your original question, we're going to get more of the
- 24:23Speaker 3: marquee matchups because that's going to bring in more revenue,
- 24:28Speaker 3: more fan interest, people going to the games. more of
- 24:30Speaker 3: a buzz around the sport. So I definitely think that
- 24:33Speaker 3: that will be one of the few benefits with the 2014.
- 24:34Speaker 2: But Jim, I think these, what I'm about to say,
- 24:37Speaker 2: these two things go hand in hand. I think you're
- 24:39Speaker 2: also going to get Fox and ESPN leaning on the
- 24:42Speaker 2: Big Ten and the SEC teams to say, we pay
- 24:46Speaker 2: you guys a lot of money. We got to get
- 24:48Speaker 2: something back for that. And with this margin for error,
- 24:51Speaker 2: you've got to give us better games. Like What the
- 24:55Speaker 2: Big Ten has given Fox this year has been an
- 24:57Speaker 2: embarrassment at a conference. If I'm Fox, I am furious
- 25:00Speaker 2: at what I'm getting out of the Big Ten. So, yes,
- 25:03Speaker 2: I think those two things go hand in hand, that
- 25:05Speaker 2: the TV partners now can go back to the conferences,
- 25:07Speaker 2: the two major conferences, and say, we've got to get
- 25:10Speaker 2: better inventory out of you guys. There's more margin for
- 25:13Speaker 2: error now, so you've got no excuse not to give
- 25:15Speaker 2: it to us if we're still going to cut these
- 25:17Speaker 2: big checks.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I disagree with.
- 25:18Speaker 2: You both, though.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Other than the Big Ten... Mandating they play one power
- 25:23Speaker 1: four team like the SEC that I don't think it'll
- 25:27Speaker 1: change at all. I think Indiana, who doesn't play anybody
- 25:30Speaker 1: power four now, will play one. And everybody will play one,
- 25:34Speaker 1: and you'll still have two easy games because the bar
- 25:38Speaker 1: is lower now. Because you guys said it, I don't
- 25:41Speaker 1: have to go 10-2 anymore. So I'm not going to
- 25:44Speaker 1: risk it with having to play nine conference games and
- 25:48Speaker 1: one out-of-conference game. So I'm going to play 10 tough games.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Those other two are going to be give-me-wins games. And
- 25:54Speaker 1: I'm shooting for that 9-3 mark because 9-3 is going
- 25:57Speaker 1: to get me in. And unless you mandate me to
- 26:00Speaker 1: play anymore, I'm not going to do it. So I
- 26:02Speaker 1: don't think it's going to change the scheduling at all.
- 26:05Speaker 3: I almost wish you could get the four conference commissioners together.
- 26:08Speaker 3: I know this would never happen. And it's almost like
- 26:10Speaker 3: ACC Big 12, you've got to play crossover games every year.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:14Speaker 3: And the Big 10 and the SEC do the same
- 26:16Speaker 3: on top of that nine-game schedule.
- 26:18Speaker 2: But I also think, Jim– One thing that will help,
- 26:21Speaker 2: and I don't know if this will happen, but if
- 26:22Speaker 2: the selection committee maybe puts a 10-2 team in the
- 26:26Speaker 2: top eight seats and say, hey, look, they played a
- 26:28Speaker 2: really difficult schedule. Their 10-2 is better than this 11-1
- 26:32Speaker 2: or 12-0.
- 26:33Speaker 1: They've never done that so far. They've never done that
- 26:35Speaker 1: so far, though.
- 26:37Speaker 2: And I don't disagree with you. They have not, and
- 26:38Speaker 2: I don't know that they will because as college football fans,
- 26:41Speaker 2: we are so programmed to say 12-0 is better than 11-1,
- 26:43Speaker 2: regardless of how you got to 12-0 and how I
- 26:44Speaker 2: got to 11-1. there has always been this emphasis on
- 26:54Speaker 2: going undefeated in college football. And to the point that
- 26:58Speaker 2: Kurt Cignetti is like, I can go 12-0 if I
- 27:00Speaker 2: play nobody out of conference. All I got to do
- 27:02Speaker 2: is win a couple of key in-conference games, and I'm 12-0.
- 27:05Speaker 3: But I think we'll finally see that. Speaking of Cignetti,
- 27:08Speaker 3: you know, I think Indiana is going to win this
- 27:09Speaker 3: game tomorrow. Again, it's 11 o'clock game, so I'll stay
- 27:11Speaker 3: away from it. But if they do win, that's Ohio
- 27:13Speaker 3: State's second loss. They've still got difficult games up at
- 27:17Speaker 3: USC and Oregon. Let's say they absorbed that third loss.
- 27:20Speaker 3: It was one of my early three guarantees. Loser of
- 27:24Speaker 3: Texas and Ohio State will be the first three-loss team
- 27:27Speaker 3: to get in. So I think that shows you just
- 27:29Speaker 3: by scheduling that difficult game, you can lose three games.
- 27:32Speaker 3: And going to 24, you can lose that fourth game.
- 27:35Speaker 1: I don't think four is a guarantee. It puts you
- 27:38Speaker 1: on the bubble. But three, you're locked in. So I
- 27:43Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know. I don't trust anybody. And
- 27:46Speaker 1: I'm not just saying this about the Big Ten. I
- 27:48Speaker 1: don't trust anybody to schedule tougher when I know, man,
- 27:52Speaker 1: if I get to 9-3 in the SEC or the
- 27:55Speaker 1: Big Ten, then I'm going to be fine. So I
- 27:58Speaker 1: will schedule my mandated 1-4, but I'm going to keep
- 28:01Speaker 1: two layups in there, man.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Well, and Dunaway, think about this.
- 28:05Speaker 3: 9-3, to me, for premier programs is a disappointing, borderline
- 28:12Speaker 3: terrible season. Brian Kelly was averaging over nine wins a season. So, like,
- 28:18Speaker 3: this is a guy that LSU fired, and nine and
- 28:20Speaker 3: three will be the minimum.
- 28:21Speaker 2: That's right. But, Jim, the one thing I do not
- 28:24Speaker 2: know is how much these coaches are going to value
- 28:27Speaker 2: a top eight seed. Like, I think they'll value it
- 28:31Speaker 2: a lot, right? You get a bye week, then you
- 28:33Speaker 2: get to host a home game before you have to
- 28:35Speaker 2: start hitting the road. And whatever the selection committee or
- 28:39Speaker 2: the playoff does to incentivize you what have they incentivized
- 28:46Speaker 2: you to do to earn that one through eight seed
- 28:47Speaker 2: will determine what these coaches do does that make sense
- 28:49Speaker 2: so oh.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Yeah yeah yeah if they put a big value on
- 28:52Speaker 1: scheduling tough and giving you like we do in basketball
- 28:56Speaker 1: uh big credit for quality losses but we've never done
- 29:00Speaker 1: that in college football we never give you a huge
- 29:02Speaker 1: credit for quality losses.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Yeah they've never done that and Until they change that,
- 29:09Speaker 2: I don't know that there is incentive to schedule more
- 29:11Speaker 2: difficult other than the TV networks applying pressure, saying we
- 29:14Speaker 2: can't keep cutting these checks and you guys pocketing all
- 29:17Speaker 2: this money if you don't start scheduling some better inventory.
- 29:20Speaker 1: It seems like we're doing this, I guess, for the
- 29:24Speaker 1: Big 12 and the ACC to get more teams in.
- 29:28Speaker 1: I mean, the SEC and the Big 10 are going
- 29:29Speaker 1: to eat up a lot of the 19 wildcard spots
- 29:33Speaker 1: we're talking about here, which sounds enormous. But they're going
- 29:37Speaker 1: to eat up a lot of those, yes. But that's
- 29:39Speaker 1: also going to open. the door for more Big 12,
- 29:41Speaker 1: more ACC to get in. And 12 just seemed like
- 29:46Speaker 1: a great number. I'd love for it to go on
- 29:48Speaker 1: a little bit longer. You guys would agree fans aren't
- 29:50Speaker 1: really for this. The TV networks, Brownie, there's not really
- 29:54Speaker 1: a desire for it from the TV networks. The Athletics
- 29:57Speaker 1: reporting that it may just be just north of $ 300
- 30:01Speaker 1: extra million. And when you've got to pay $ 250 million
- 30:06Speaker 1: to the networks to buy out of the conference championship games,
- 30:09Speaker 1: you're not giving them anymore. The profit margin over these
- 30:12Speaker 1: next few years is going to be relatively small, speaking
- 30:16Speaker 1: of big picture. for adding these extra games. So it's
- 30:19Speaker 1: not even an enormous amount of extra money.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's what we talked about when we
- 30:24Speaker 2: started looking at some of the matchups when we were
- 30:26Speaker 2: discussing this. We're like, does that feel like a matchup
- 30:29Speaker 2: that ESPN is going to pay a ton more money for?
- 30:31Speaker 5: No.
- 30:32Speaker 2: And that's the surprising thing to me on this. Now,
- 30:35Speaker 2: if you told me that Fox had jumped in and like, okay,
- 30:37Speaker 2: this is our shot to get in here. And they
- 30:39Speaker 2: got some of the inventory and CBS got some of
- 30:41Speaker 2: the inventory. There was a bidding for that. I could
- 30:43Speaker 2: see this, but that's not what has happened here. ESPN
- 30:46Speaker 2: has basically told them, We'll pay X for these extra games,
- 30:51Speaker 2: and everybody has apparently said yes to that, or will soon.
- 30:54Speaker 2: I just don't understand.
- 30:56Speaker 3: The natural progression is a smooth, even 16.
- 31:02Speaker 2: I keep trying to make this point. We've only done
- 31:05Speaker 2: 12 the right way one time. One time. Last year,
- 31:08Speaker 2: you're right. Last year was the only time we did
- 31:10Speaker 2: 12 without screwing up the seating. Yeah, year one was
- 31:13Speaker 2: a disaster. Yeah, year one, they had it completely screwed up. Okay.
- 31:16Speaker 2: And then they learn from their mistakes. We've done 12
- 31:19Speaker 2: right one time, and we've already said, okay, that's enough.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Let's go. Let's double it now.
- 31:22Speaker 3: I actually thought the max number would be eight, and
- 31:24Speaker 3: we never even had eight.
- 31:25Speaker 2: It went four to 12.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Yeah. I want to do two things really quick. By
- 31:30Speaker 1: the way, Brooks is working on a graphic he's going
- 31:33Speaker 1: to send out of how many eight and four teams.
- 31:37Speaker 1: How many eight and four teams would have made the
- 31:39Speaker 1: college football playoff at 24 since 2014? He'll have that
- 31:43Speaker 1: out at some point today at Next Round Live, but
- 31:46Speaker 1: there are some that would have made the playoffs with
- 31:49Speaker 1: an 8-4 record in college football. Two things before we
- 31:53Speaker 1: take our next break on this and start talking about
- 31:54Speaker 1: the games in the field, Furman at the top of
- 31:56Speaker 1: the hour here on Sporting State. I did the first-round matchups,
- 32:00Speaker 1: who they play second round, incorrectly in the mood yesterday.
- 32:04Speaker 1: So I want to show you the bracket that On3
- 32:07Speaker 1: has put together for us here. And this is the
- 32:10Speaker 1: way Georgia would actually play the winner of the 17-16 game.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Not the 24-9 game. I was going worst team in
- 32:19Speaker 1: the field, putting them on the side with Georgia, but
- 32:21Speaker 1: that is incorrect. So they would actually play the winner
- 32:24Speaker 1: of the Iowa-Mississippi State game and start, but winner would
- 32:28Speaker 1: go play Georgia. SMU Ole Miss winner would go to BYU.
- 32:34Speaker 1: On the next part of the bracket, Houston at Missouri,
- 32:38Speaker 1: winner goes and plays at Ohio State. Wake Forest at UCLA,
- 32:43Speaker 1: the winner goes and plays Indiana. Then you move down
- 32:47Speaker 1: to the next region or the next part of the bracket,
- 32:50Speaker 1: Oklahoma State at Kentucky. The winner goes to Notre Dame.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Boise State at Texas Tech with a winner going to Texas.
- 33:00Speaker 1: USC at Tennessee with a winner going to Miami. And
- 33:04Speaker 1: then LSU at Utah with a winner going to Alabama.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Now that's based off the current AP Top 24. There
- 33:12Speaker 1: obviously would be a college football playoff ranking at that point.
- 33:16Speaker 1: And so that's the way the bracket would look. I
- 33:18Speaker 1: would say this about the college football selection committee and
- 33:21Speaker 1: all that. At this point, I would love to go
- 33:23Speaker 1: back to a computer rating system, the old BCS, if
- 33:27Speaker 1: you will, or automatic play-ins with certain number of conference
- 33:31Speaker 1: teams making it, where it's all like the NFL, where
- 33:34Speaker 1: it's strictly about your standings in your conference. Which would
- 33:38Speaker 1: you guys prefer of three choices? College football playoff committee,
- 33:43Speaker 1: ranking the top 24 and seeding them, a BCS-like computer
- 33:47Speaker 1: model with the top 24 teams with only your auto
- 33:51Speaker 1: bids for the four conference champions, Notre Dame with some
- 33:54Speaker 1: criteria and a group of six? Or would you rather
- 33:58Speaker 1: have an NFL-like certain number from each conference and you
- 34:04Speaker 1: play your way in based on the standings in your conference?
- 34:07Speaker 1: Which would you prefer?
- 34:08Speaker 2: Well, I would say... You started all this by asking,
- 34:12Speaker 2: will we get better games at a conference? If you're
- 34:14Speaker 2: only basing it on conference standings, the answer is no. Like,
- 34:17Speaker 2: why in the world would I play Notre Dame or
- 34:20Speaker 2: Alabama or Ohio State If all I got to do
- 34:22Speaker 2: is finish top two, top three, top four in my conference,
- 34:25Speaker 2: it's all about my conference. Yeah, that one's completely out.
- 34:29Speaker 2: I got to throw it out because of that.
- 34:30Speaker 3: And going to option A, I am sick of this
- 34:32Speaker 3: committee anyway. I think most people are, and they have
- 34:35Speaker 3: a hard time battling for 12 and to throw 24
- 34:38Speaker 3: out there. I think the option B, the old BCS numbers,
- 34:42Speaker 3: because we do this every year. We look at, well,
- 34:45Speaker 3: what would this have looked like in the BCS days?
- 34:46Speaker 3: A lot of times it's cleaner. And a lot of
- 34:48Speaker 3: times the computers, the robots getting it right. So I
- 34:51Speaker 3: would definitely 100%, if you're going to expand it, which
- 34:54Speaker 3: we know is going to happen, obviously, I think you
- 34:56Speaker 3: got to go to option B and go with the
- 34:58Speaker 3: BCS standings.
- 35:00Speaker 1: And here's the biggest concern of all. And I'd love
- 35:03Speaker 1: your thoughts on this. We'd already gotten a little bit
- 35:07Speaker 1: to this with current college students in this college generation,
- 35:12Speaker 1: but we're about to raise a whole generation of college
- 35:16Speaker 1: football fans to that are not going to know what
- 35:20Speaker 1: we grew up with. And I'll go back to 2011.
- 35:24Speaker 1: The scenes in the bars in Tuscaloosa on a Friday
- 35:28Speaker 1: night when Oklahoma State gets upset by Iowa State and
- 35:34Speaker 1: beers are flying in the air, champagne is popping, there's
- 35:38Speaker 1: screams and dancing. It's like the ball has just dropped
- 35:42Speaker 1: on the strip in Tuscaloosa and it's a new year.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Because Alabama in 2011 was back in the national championship
- 35:48Speaker 1: hunt because of a road game in Ames, Iowa, between
- 35:52Speaker 1: Oklahoma State and Iowa State. And I believe there's a
- 35:55Speaker 1: fiber of college football that made that, though you didn't
- 35:59Speaker 1: always have the best teams playing for the championship, there
- 36:02Speaker 1: was a little bit of that fiber on a Saturday
- 36:05Speaker 1: evening or a Friday night when you were pulling for
- 36:07Speaker 1: an upset that I think we're going to lose a
- 36:09Speaker 1: little bit of as we move forward. Am I right
- 36:11Speaker 1: or am I wrong?
- 36:13Speaker 2: No, I think you're absolutely right about that. And incidentally,
- 36:16Speaker 2: do you bring that up because you just watched that
- 36:18Speaker 2: part of the Saban documentary by chance? No, I have
- 36:20Speaker 2: not got to that part yet. Okay, well, then I
- 36:22Speaker 2: won't ruin it for you because there's something interesting about that.
- 36:25Speaker 2: And they do show the footage from Innisfree when Iowa
- 36:29Speaker 2: State pulled that upset of Oklahoma State. Jim's exactly right.
- 36:32Speaker 2: I mean, I don't even know if we get those
- 36:35Speaker 2: games right now. Yeah, I don't think we do. Yeah,
- 36:37Speaker 2: but you're certainly not going to get them in a 24.
- 36:38Speaker 3: You know, we lost that after the 14 playoff. You
- 36:42Speaker 3: still had those moments late in November where a team
- 36:45Speaker 3: would get upset and everybody was pulling against that team
- 36:47Speaker 3: or pulling for that team.
- 36:49Speaker 2: But that changed when we went to 12. Yeah, you
- 36:52Speaker 2: randomly get, like, Miami at Syracuse two years ago. Wasn't
- 36:56Speaker 2: that right? Was that Syracuse upset Miami, and that knocked
- 36:58Speaker 2: them out right at the end, and that gave Clemson
- 37:01Speaker 2: the spot in the title game? Yeah, well, last year
- 37:03Speaker 2: you had SMU lose at Cal. That's right. So you'll
- 37:06Speaker 2: get a few of those. So I guess we can't
- 37:08Speaker 2: say that they've completely disappeared. But now they're, Jim, determining, okay,
- 37:13Speaker 2: this is for the 10th seed, 11th seed, 12th seed.
- 37:16Speaker 2: In the future, it's going to be, okay, well, team 24,
- 37:18Speaker 2: 25 is now team 24. To your point, that was
- 37:23Speaker 2: to determining which team was going to be number two
- 37:26Speaker 2: playing LSU, who was going to be number one. Yeah.
- 37:30Speaker 1: And I guess, lastly, this has been my last point
- 37:32Speaker 1: four times. Have you guys heard anything about what we're
- 37:37Speaker 1: going to do with bowl games next year? I mean,
- 37:39Speaker 1: does this end most of them?
- 37:42Speaker 2: I think they're dead. I mean, I have not heard that, no.
- 37:45Speaker 2: I mean, everybody's saying the conference championship games are dead,
- 37:48Speaker 2: and I think that's obvious.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Do you remember the last time Sony was like, hey,
- 37:52Speaker 3: I'm going to this bowl game?
- 37:53Speaker 2: No.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Well, I mean, unless it was part of the playoff,
- 37:59Speaker 1: you know, those I assume will hang around the big ones.
- 38:02Speaker 1: But I assume we're about to lose all the ones
- 38:06Speaker 1: in Tampa and Orlando and things like that.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I just remember fraternity brothers of mine getting in
- 38:12Speaker 3: a car and driving to Tampa to go to one
- 38:15Speaker 3: of these bowl games, and I just don't think that's
- 38:18Speaker 3: a thing anymore.
- 38:18Speaker 2: But, I mean, if you're asking me, I'd rather have
- 38:22Speaker 2: those on-campus games first week of December than a bowl
- 38:25Speaker 2: game December 21st. I mean, that's my opinion. I'd rather
- 38:30Speaker 2: have what they're going to give us. I'm not going
- 38:33Speaker 2: to mourn the loss of the bowl games. I think
- 38:34Speaker 2: they're outdated and they've run their course. as long as
- 38:38Speaker 2: we're replacing them with football games and we'll be not
- 38:41Speaker 2: only replacing them with football games, but at least more
- 38:43Speaker 2: meaningful football games than what the bowl game actually is.
- 38:45Speaker 2: So to me, that's not a negative at all. For me,
- 38:49Speaker 2: that's an upgrade for the fan.
- 38:50Speaker 3: And I know that was part of the fiber of
- 38:52Speaker 3: college football, the bowl games and the reward after the season,
- 38:55Speaker 3: and even the conference championship games for the last almost
- 38:59Speaker 3: 35 years.
- 39:01Speaker 2: But I think both have run their course.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say this. You know, if you're in
- 39:06Speaker 1: most sports, the playoffs are the most watched thing in
- 39:10Speaker 1: your sport. And it's always been the regular season for
- 39:15Speaker 1: the most part. Big, massive numbers like 12 million this
- 39:18Speaker 1: past week for Alabama and Georgia. If you've got all
- 39:21Speaker 1: these playoff games happening on a Saturday in week one
- 39:24Speaker 1: or a few on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the
- 39:27Speaker 1: first week of the playoffs, where now you have that
- 39:29Speaker 1: many games. on top of each other and then eventually
- 39:33Speaker 1: the NFL chiming in on Saturday as well, I don't
- 39:36Speaker 1: know what these TV ratings are going to be either.
- 39:38Speaker 1: And I think that's why they may not end up
- 39:41Speaker 1: getting as much number, financial number, as they think they're
- 39:46Speaker 1: going to get or maybe what they probably deserve if
- 39:48Speaker 1: it was on a different– you know, a different schedule
- 39:52Speaker 1: if it was the ability to stay away from the
- 39:53Speaker 1: NFL and not have to stack games on top of
- 39:56Speaker 1: each other. I don't want to be the old guy
- 39:59Speaker 1: standing on top of the roof while the floodwaters come,
- 40:01Speaker 1: but I think it's a sad day for college football
- 40:04Speaker 1: that we're going to 24.
- 40:05Speaker 2: I really do. I really do.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I'm 12. I'm good with 12. Would have loved to
- 40:09Speaker 1: stay at 12, even though that sometimes that would mean
- 40:13Speaker 1: my beloved team, whoever that would be, whoever you cheer for,
- 40:16Speaker 1: would be left out. It sucks being 13 or 14. But,
- 40:21Speaker 1: my goodness, it is almost everybody gets a trophy time
- 40:25Speaker 1: now when it comes to college football.
- 40:27Speaker 3: Well, we evolve in every space out there, but can
- 40:30Speaker 3: you imagine, like– Let's just say Bo Schembechler or Bear Bryant.
- 40:34Speaker 3: You bring one of these guys back, and you're like,
- 40:36Speaker 3: you know, this quarterback right now, Sam Levitt, leads the
- 40:39Speaker 3: SEC in picks with eight, and he's getting paid $ 6 million.
- 40:42Speaker 2: That's right, more than you ever made.
- 40:44Speaker 3: And we are going to have 24 teams that are
- 40:46Speaker 3: going to be competing for a national championship in the postseason.
- 40:49Speaker 2: Oh, and they're playing at the Hall of Fame Bowl? No,
- 40:51Speaker 2: even more. Coach, those don't exist anymore.
- 40:53Speaker 1: David says this is called socialism. This is called socialism
- 40:57Speaker 1: for college football. Everyone shares no matter how little you do. David,
- 41:02Speaker 1: we have that in every major sport, by the way.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Rev shares and all of that. The college football world
- 41:08Speaker 1: has just now been drug into that. All right, when
- 41:10Speaker 1: we come back to the– oh, go ahead, Lance. You
- 41:12Speaker 1: got one more thought?
- 41:13Speaker 3: I was just going to say it shows you the
- 41:15Speaker 3: popularity of the number two sport right now in America.
- 41:17Speaker 2: I mean, that's why we're here.
- 41:18Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 41:19Speaker 1: But I think it got to be number two because
- 41:21Speaker 1: of how different it is from the NFL, and now
- 41:24Speaker 1: we're making it pseudo-NFL, and we'll see if it survives.
- 41:27Speaker 1: NASCAR screwed it up one time. Baseball eventually screwed it up,
- 41:31Speaker 1: and now they're trying to drag it back. So we'll
- 41:33Speaker 1: see if this helps or hurts college football down the road.
- 41:36Speaker 1: But that's for another time. Six ranked games, some other
- 41:39Speaker 1: massive games this weekend. We'll start talking about those big ones,
- 41:43Speaker 1: including the one there in Tennessee where those guys are
- 41:45Speaker 1: at the Tennessee Shine Company when we come back. Furman
- 41:48Speaker 1: at the top of the hour. It's the next round
- 41:50Speaker 1: here on Sporting State. Back with you on the next
- 41:53Speaker 1: round presented by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State. I'm
- 41:56Speaker 1: in Birmingham. The guys are at the Tennessee Shine Company
- 41:59Speaker 1: up there in beautiful Gatlinburg, Tennessee for the Alabama-Tennessee game.
- 42:04Speaker 1: We'll talk about that coming up in just a second.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I do want to bring up from the chat room, LT.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Michael says, hey, LT, I thought of you last night.
- 42:12Speaker 1: I made that Simply Limeade margarita that you do. Good
- 42:15Speaker 1: stuff right there. That is always good stuff, right?
- 42:20Speaker 2: Simply Limeade, yeah. Just put a little.
- 42:22Speaker 3: Find your tequila choice, put it down there, a little
- 42:24Speaker 3: crushed ice. It's fantastic. Easy way to do it there
- 42:28Speaker 3: on a margarita weekend. We are at the Tennessee Shine Company.
- 42:32Speaker 1: The guys will be telling you a little bit later
- 42:33Speaker 1: on about how you can get that product wherever you're
- 42:36Speaker 1: watching or listening to the show. The Tennessee Shine Company
- 42:39Speaker 1: is the location there to the games itself, including Alabama
- 42:42Speaker 1: at Tennessee, after Brownie tells us about our friends at
- 42:45Speaker 1: Perfect 10 Mortgage.

- 43:51Speaker 2: Mortgage in pursuit of a more perfect mortgage.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Both Damien and Brett agree with what I brought up
- 43:57Speaker 1: in the summer. The non-playoff bowls should flip and be
- 44:01Speaker 1: kickoff games to start the season.
- 44:04Speaker 6: Okay.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Week zero or just predetermined out-of-conference games that you invite,
- 44:09Speaker 1: not based off of anything from last season. You just
- 44:12Speaker 1: try to get a big matchup for your town with
- 44:15Speaker 1: your bowl logo on to continue that tradition and trophy
- 44:19Speaker 1: and turn those into kickoff games. I would be all
- 44:21Speaker 1: for that. Alabama-Tennessee is a conference game. It's a tradition.
- 44:25Speaker 1: They meet for the 109th time. this weekend. This time
- 44:29Speaker 1: it's in Knoxville, Tennessee, where the Vols have won the
- 44:31Speaker 1: last two. Here is Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Womack on
- 44:36Speaker 1: the importance of slowing down the Tennessee run game.
- 44:41Speaker 2: You talked about the explosive plays.
- 44:43Speaker 8: Just how important is that to kind of limit those
- 44:45Speaker 8: when you have a back like Bishop coming in this game?
- 44:47Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, you know, this is going to be,
- 44:50Speaker 9: it'll be critical. I mean, you know, you think about
- 44:53Speaker 9: What Tennessee is doing really well right now is they
- 44:55Speaker 9: are playing team football. They are running the football. They're
- 44:58Speaker 9: committed to running the football. They are finding explosive plays
- 45:02Speaker 9: off of them running the football. And so it's all
- 45:04Speaker 9: predicated them running in their running game and then creating
- 45:09Speaker 9: explosives out of their run game and then the shots
- 45:12Speaker 9: that come off of it in the passing game. And
- 45:14Speaker 9: so what they're doing a really good job of, right,
- 45:16Speaker 9: is they're playing that complementary style of football where they're
- 45:19Speaker 9: establishing the run, keeping the clock, and then on defense,
- 45:24Speaker 9: I think they lead in the country in sacks right now,
- 45:27Speaker 9: so they're getting offenses in negative positions and getting off
- 45:30Speaker 9: the field on third down because of it.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Lance, Brownie, everybody will be in their home jerseys, crimson
- 45:36Speaker 1: and orange tomorrow. It does seem like Tennessee has already
- 45:39Speaker 1: become a one-dimensional team on their own. How important is
- 45:42Speaker 1: it to take the runaway tomorrow for Bama? I'll start
- 45:44Speaker 1: with you, Lance. I feel like this game is trending
- 45:47Speaker 1: towards an underplay for me, whatever the total is. I
- 45:50Speaker 1: picture this being a low-scoring game.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Well, Hypel obviously wants to dictate tempo here. They're 15th
- 45:56Speaker 3: nationally in running the football. Deshaun Bishop has already got
- 45:59Speaker 3: 678 yards rushing.
- 46:00Speaker 2: He's been fantastic.
- 46:00Speaker 3: 220 against Auburn. I know Auburn fans remember that. You know,
- 46:07Speaker 3: George McIntyre getting that first start on the road against
- 46:10Speaker 3: Arkansas turned it over three times. Alabama's pass defense has
- 46:14Speaker 3: been shaky. I don't think they've got to worry about that.
- 46:16Speaker 3: But Ryan Coleman Williams is going to be out. Keelan
- 46:19Speaker 3: Russell will have an opportunity against one of the worst
- 46:22Speaker 3: pass defenses, the worst pass defense. in the SEC right now, 16th,
- 46:27Speaker 3: but 110th nationally. I've just got a feeling, Dunaway, that
- 46:31Speaker 3: somehow Tennessee's going to yuck this thing up with Deshaun Bishop.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Their defense will put pressure with, you know, kind of
- 46:39Speaker 3: a patchwork offensive line.
- 46:41Speaker 2: And I think Tennessee keeps it close.
- 46:43Speaker 3: I think Alabama wins the game, but I think it
- 46:44Speaker 3: is a low-scoring game, to your point.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Think about this now. In the Josh Heupel era, where
- 46:51Speaker 2: do you think they have been better, at quarterback or
- 46:54Speaker 2: at running back? Oh, running back. Running back. Easy. Yeah. Yeah.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Isn't that crazy? Like, I mean, he's thought of as this,
- 47:01Speaker 2: you know, he could develop quarterbacks. He's got this passer
- 47:03Speaker 2: friendly system, but they've been better at running back than
- 47:05Speaker 2: they have a quarterback. I mean, really just Dylan Sampson
- 47:08Speaker 2: to Deshaun Bishop. Just those two together probably win the
- 47:11Speaker 2: battle over any any they've had a quarterback. So, I mean,
- 47:15Speaker 2: that shows you, Jim, where the emphasis is for this team.
- 47:18Speaker 2: They they know their path to victory is Deshaun Bishop
- 47:20Speaker 2: having a big game. And Alabama, oddly last year, was
- 47:24Speaker 2: really good against the pass, and they were susceptible to
- 47:26Speaker 2: the run. Their defense is the exact opposite of that
- 47:29Speaker 2: this year. They've been better against the run than they
- 47:31Speaker 2: have the pass.
- 47:31Speaker 1: But they were not last week. Georgia exported some bad gaps,
- 47:36Speaker 1: and they had some big runs. You can't let Deshaun
- 47:39Speaker 1: Bishop do that this week.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Listen.
- 47:44Speaker 1: I agree with Landmine Believer. One of the things to
- 47:46Speaker 1: watch in this game is Rayson Delgatti being out. He's
- 47:49Speaker 1: doubtful for the game at center against that great Tennessee
- 47:52Speaker 1: defensive line. Pressure up the middle for the young quarterback
- 47:56Speaker 1: and the inability to run the football for Alabama could
- 47:59Speaker 1: make this a more interesting game. Delgatti's injury to me,
- 48:03Speaker 1: tell me I'm crazy, but Delgatti's injury to me more
- 48:06Speaker 1: important than Ryan Coleman Williams' injury.
- 48:10Speaker 2: I was about to say it, so I'm not going
- 48:11Speaker 2: to tell you you're crazy. If you, as an Alabama fan,
- 48:15Speaker 2: could pick, I think a lot of them would pick
- 48:17Speaker 2: having Dale Gotti in there and take what you get
- 48:20Speaker 2: from the rest of the receivers, Lance. But, boy, having
- 48:23Speaker 2: a center, especially on the road, having your starting center
- 48:27Speaker 2: is huge.
- 48:27Speaker 3: It's been a pleasant surprise, not only the way he
- 48:29Speaker 3: has played coming over from Cal Poly, but just the
- 48:32Speaker 3: way the entire unit has played. Now you lose your
- 48:34Speaker 3: quarterback in that hostile environment where communication is going to
- 48:37Speaker 3: be difficult, especially– Tennessee makes a play or two early
- 48:40Speaker 3: and you know, they're right there in that ball game.
- 48:43Speaker 3: So I do think that is the bigger loss. And
- 48:46Speaker 3: think about this done away. We were on with the,
- 48:48Speaker 3: you know, our buddies Hutton and Withrow earlier. How, how
- 48:51Speaker 3: much does this perception, not only in the sec, but
- 48:54Speaker 3: nationally change if Tennessee was to win this game?
- 48:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 48:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 48:58Speaker 2: I mean, Tennessee's 14th right now, is that right? 14th.
- 49:01Speaker 2: They'll be a top 10 team. Top 10 team and
- 49:02Speaker 2: a playoff team.
- 49:03Speaker 3: You know, coming off that loss to Georgia, most people view,
- 49:06Speaker 3: you know, Alabama is one of the top five teams
- 49:09Speaker 3: for sure in college football. But you lose to a
- 49:11Speaker 3: quarterback making his second start that doesn't look good right now.
- 49:16Speaker 2: Boy, it just flips everything.
- 49:18Speaker 1: I believe because of Tennessee's situation on their offense and
- 49:21Speaker 1: a quarterback, it doesn't change their national perception much with
- 49:25Speaker 1: the win. It changes the SEC and Alabama's perception tremendously.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Alabama perceived, as you said, as a top five team.
- 49:33Speaker 1: And that's one of the reasons why the SEC looks back.
- 49:37Speaker 1: like the SEC is back to maybe its college football dominance.
- 49:40Speaker 1: An Alabama loss here that puts a middling Tennessee offense
- 49:44Speaker 1: back higher rated, and that makes the SEC look a
- 49:48Speaker 1: little weaker to me if Alabama can't hold serve on
- 49:50Speaker 1: the road this weekend. Here's Josh Heupel getting asked why
- 49:54Speaker 1: Alabama is such a tough test this weekend.
- 49:58Speaker 2: You mentioned Alabama's a huge test.
- 50:00Speaker 10: What specifically are they doing that make them a huge
- 50:03Speaker 10: test and including maybe running the football better than they
- 50:05Speaker 10: did last year?
- 50:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 50:06Speaker 8: Uh, they are, um, much more efficient, effective, uh, running
- 50:10Speaker 8: the football quarterbacks, dynamic, uh, player. Um, you know, he's
- 50:16Speaker 8: throwing extremely efficiently, bunch of yards, uh, but extends makes,
- 50:21Speaker 8: makes plays with his feet. Um, scramble to run but
- 50:26Speaker 8: also throw the football down the field if you're not
- 50:28Speaker 8: matching things out so you know us defensively massive test
- 50:33Speaker 8: and you know them defensively big strong physical up front
- 50:38Speaker 8: second level very active they've made it difficult to run
- 50:42Speaker 8: the football and I've given up a ton of explosives
- 50:44Speaker 8: they've gotten their hands on a bunch of balls created
- 50:47Speaker 8: turnovers as.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Well So that's Josh Heupel on Alabama. So you guys
- 50:52Speaker 1: gave me a feel about that game. If I said
- 50:55Speaker 1: Tennessee pulls the upset, I would assume your star of
- 50:59Speaker 1: the game would be Deshaun Bishop.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Deshaun Bishop. Yeah, 100%. Yeah. I mean, I think that's
- 51:05Speaker 2: really their only path. Yeah.
- 51:07Speaker 3: I think he would have to go 180 plus, a
- 51:09Speaker 3: couple of touchdowns. You know, Keelan would have to turn
- 51:12Speaker 3: it over a couple of times. You know, all this
- 51:14Speaker 3: stuff is possible, though. I think if they played this
- 51:16Speaker 3: game ten times the way both are playing, I think
- 51:18Speaker 3: Alabama wins seven or eight of those games. But, you know,
- 51:21Speaker 3: it is one of those sneaky, dangerous games. You know,
- 51:24Speaker 3: the numbers drop back down to seven and a half
- 51:26Speaker 3: right now. Again, I think Alabama wins the game, but
- 51:29Speaker 3: I think it's closer than a lot of people believe.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel a little more 28-17, Dunaway. I think,
- 51:33Speaker 2: what was your score, 20-13?
- 51:33Speaker 7: 20-13.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm 28-17 Alabama. That's kind of my feel here.
- 51:42Speaker 1: I jumped on the app last night and went, took
- 51:45Speaker 1: the under while the number was where it was before
- 51:48Speaker 1: we got there.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Did you see they sent us a helmet?
- 51:50Speaker 1: The Hard Rock folks?
- 51:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Hard Rock helmet right here. Good looking matte black helmet.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Looks like Northwestern.
- 51:56Speaker 1: Are you guys bringing that one back?
- 51:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Yeah, they sent it to us and said, you guys
- 52:01Speaker 2: take it back to the studio, do whatever you want
- 52:03Speaker 2: with it. So it's a good looking helmet.
- 52:05Speaker 5: Oh, okay.
- 52:05Speaker 1: I can do whatever I want. I'll eat chips out
- 52:07Speaker 1: of it next weekend.
- 52:07Speaker 2: How about that? That's up to you, Jimmy. Wear it
- 52:10Speaker 2: on your date. I don't know who had it on
- 52:12Speaker 2: their head last. We're going right ahead.
- 52:13Speaker 1: I'm looking at it. The size of it doesn't look
- 52:16Speaker 1: like it could fit my head, to be honest with you.
- 52:19Speaker 2: It's got a filler inside. Yeah.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Oh, it's a speaker. It's a car phone. All right,
- 52:26Speaker 1: when we come back, Todd Furman will join us. The
- 52:29Speaker 1: guys will take a quick break to get a little
- 52:31Speaker 1: more shine in them at the Tennessee Shine Company. I'll
- 52:34Speaker 1: talk to Todd Furman in Vegas about all the big
- 52:37Speaker 1: games in college and the NFL when we continue on
- 52:39Speaker 1: the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet here on
- 52:41Speaker 1: Sporting State. Sporting State rolls on, presented by our friends
- 52:45Speaker 1: at Hard Rock Bet. I'll tell you more about Hard
- 52:47Speaker 1: Rock Bet in a moment here on the next round.
- 52:49Speaker 1: The guys will rejoin us from beautiful Gatlinburg, Tennessee. But
- 52:52Speaker 1: right now, from Gatlinburg to the fine folks out in Vegas,
- 52:57Speaker 1: our man Todd Furman, hat turned around, ready to go
- 53:00Speaker 1: with some big picks this weekend. Furman, good morning to you.
- 53:03Speaker 1: How are you?
- 53:04Speaker 6: I'm doing well this morning, Dunaway, and I'm not sure
- 53:07Speaker 6: you can have two cities that might be more diametrically
- 53:09Speaker 6: opposed when you go from Gatlinburg to Las Vegas. I
- 53:13Speaker 6: hear Gatlinburg is lovely, but I have never set foot
- 53:15Speaker 6: in that fine town myself.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Well, truthfully, the only difference, they both have a crowded strip.
- 53:20Speaker 1: The only difference, you replace the smell of weed with
- 53:23Speaker 1: the smell of pancakes. And other than that, they're exactly
- 53:26Speaker 1: the same.
- 53:27Speaker 6: In all honesty, Dunaway, these days, given what Vegas has become,
- 53:30Speaker 6: I will take the smell of pancakes every day of
- 53:33Speaker 6: the week and twice on Sundays over the smells that
- 53:35Speaker 6: we are treated to out here in the desert.
- 53:37Speaker 1: It is mind-boggling. I could be on the golf course
- 53:40Speaker 1: in the bunker on 11 in Vegas and all of
- 53:43Speaker 1: a sudden somewhere. a whiff of marijuana comes floating by.
- 53:46Speaker 5: It is a.
- 53:48Speaker 6: Distinct possibility and it can be somewhat overpowering, especially during
- 53:52Speaker 6: the hours of 1.30 in the morning until about 6.30. Unfortunately,
- 53:56Speaker 6: I don't really see that side of the coin at
- 53:58Speaker 6: this point in my life.
- 53:59Speaker 1: And then there are some days I'm in Vegas, I
- 54:01Speaker 1: look down at my hand, and it's coming from me.
- 54:05Speaker 5: We're not here to judge. Judgment-free zone, my friend. Judgment-free zone.
- 54:08Speaker 1: All right, let's start with Alabama and Tennessee. I just
- 54:11Speaker 1: told the guys before I came to you that I
- 54:13Speaker 1: was going to tell you that my play on this game,
- 54:16Speaker 1: and I bet it last night, is the under. I
- 54:18Speaker 1: feel like Alabama, a little hungover from last week, Tennessee's
- 54:22Speaker 1: pressure on the quarterback, and Tennessee's ability to slow the
- 54:26Speaker 1: game down and want to run it. I'm finding it
- 54:29Speaker 1: hard to see a lot of points scored there at
- 54:30Speaker 1: Natalyn tomorrow. What do you think?
- 54:33Speaker 5: So I can't argue the angle with you at all.
- 54:35Speaker 6: My only reservation here is that this total has moved
- 54:38Speaker 6: quite a bit from where it opened with our friends
- 54:39Speaker 6: at Hard Rock Bet. Right around 55.5 at last check,
- 54:43Speaker 6: we were hovering around 51.
- 54:44Speaker 5: And we've blown through a couple of the most.
- 54:46Speaker 6: Important numbers when you're betting totals in college football. But
- 54:49Speaker 6: the move is warranted for just the reasons that you outlined.
- 54:52Speaker 6: I mean, this is a Tennessee team right now that's
- 54:54Speaker 6: not playing with that breakneck pace we grew accustomed to
- 54:57Speaker 6: with Hendon Hooker leading the charge under center. So much
- 55:00Speaker 6: of what Tennessee wants to do offensively is predicated on
- 55:02Speaker 6: getting Deshaun Bishop going on the ground. And it's a
- 55:05Speaker 6: lot of short, controlled passing that's really been devoid of
- 55:09Speaker 6: some of those vertical shots that has been a staple
- 55:11Speaker 6: of Josh Heupel's offense. And on the flip side of
- 55:13Speaker 6: things for Alabama, look, this Tennessee team's strength has been
- 55:17Speaker 6: along that defensive line. and if they're able to generate pressure,
- 55:20Speaker 6: get Keelan Russell off his spot, going to make things
- 55:22Speaker 6: a little bit problematic. I actually debated getting involved in
- 55:26Speaker 6: this game to kind of reverse engineer an angle. You
- 55:29Speaker 6: can find an Alabama team total hovering right around that
- 55:33Speaker 6: 30.5-31 range with our friends at Hard Rock Bet, and
- 55:35Speaker 6: that's probably the path that I would take, thinking that
- 55:38Speaker 6: if Tennessee is going to stay in this game for
- 55:40Speaker 6: four quarters, they're going to need the same caliber of
- 55:42Speaker 6: defensive effort that we saw when they came up just
- 55:45Speaker 6: short against Texas a few weeks ago.
- 55:46Speaker 1: One of my favorite phrases you use every week is
- 55:50Speaker 1: it's a lay it or don't play it type game.
- 55:53Speaker 1: I'm interested to see what you think about Auburn at Georgia,
- 55:56Speaker 1: Georgia number one. We saw them last week in Tuscaloosa,
- 56:00Speaker 1: and Gunnar's so good on third downs in Tuscaloosa. This game,
- 56:05Speaker 1: we're finding it hard to even paint an Auburn upset
- 56:08Speaker 1: picture to win the game outright. How do you break
- 56:10Speaker 1: down the Deep South's oldest rivalry?
- 56:14Speaker 6: I'm not going to sit here and say that I
- 56:15Speaker 6: think Auburn has a chance to do the unthinkable and
- 56:18Speaker 6: go into Athens and win this game outright.
- 56:20Speaker 5: He's nearly a three-touchdown underdog.
- 56:21Speaker 6: But that being said, I'm not anywhere close to laying
- 56:25Speaker 6: the points here with Georgia, knowing what that game last
- 56:27Speaker 6: week against Alabama took out of them. Let's not sugarcoat it.
- 56:31Speaker 6: Georgia was the better team in the second half. If
- 56:33Speaker 6: we get that pass interference call, though, maybe Alabama is
- 56:36Speaker 6: able to get a season-defining win against the Bulldogs. This
- 56:40Speaker 6: Georgia team defensively should pose all sorts of problems for Auburn.
- 56:43Speaker 6: And an offense that's really lacked pop and some of
- 56:45Speaker 6: that big play potential. I don't think just having an
- 56:48Speaker 6: extra week to prepare is suddenly going to fix what
- 56:50Speaker 6: Alex Golish wants this team to be able to do.
- 56:53Speaker 6: But the reason that I think Auburn can hang around
- 56:55Speaker 6: in this game is defensively, this Auburn defense has been
- 56:58Speaker 6: the strength in their calling card all season long. Of course,
- 57:01Speaker 6: you do have the crooked numbers that Florida put on
- 57:03Speaker 6: them at Jordan-Hare. That's starting to feel a little bit
- 57:05Speaker 6: more like an outlier. If it got to 21, I
- 57:08Speaker 6: would be more inclined to value bet Auburn. But this
- 57:11Speaker 6: is a game that I just don't find a real
- 57:13Speaker 6: compelling handicapping angle that I don't feel is truly baked
- 57:16Speaker 6: into the current price.
- 57:18Speaker 1: Back to the SEC in a moment. But first, some
- 57:21Speaker 1: big games nationally. Ohio State and Indiana, it seems like
- 57:25Speaker 1: in the Big Ten, you wait for this one a long,
- 57:27Speaker 1: long time in the offseason to get to this because
- 57:31Speaker 1: For Indiana, they really haven't played anybody yet. And they
- 57:33Speaker 1: struggled but finally rallied in Lincoln. But I see a
- 57:37Speaker 1: lot of people that do what you do for a
- 57:39Speaker 1: living that still fall in love with Indiana. Layman Jim
- 57:44Speaker 1: is sitting here saying this looks so easy for Ohio State.
- 57:47Speaker 1: So tell me where Layman Jim is wrong.
- 57:50Speaker 5: Well, what I.
- 57:50Speaker 6: Can tell you, and that's why I was just checking
- 57:52Speaker 6: my odd screen that's out right off camera here, this
- 57:55Speaker 6: game has been bet this morning. And the money that's
- 57:57Speaker 6: come in has been on the Indiana Hoosiers. So the
- 58:00Speaker 6: three and a halves that were widely available, now down
- 58:02Speaker 6: to a three hard rock bet, one of the only
- 58:05Speaker 6: remaining three and a halves in the market. So if
- 58:07Speaker 6: you like the underdog, best spot to bet them will
- 58:09Speaker 6: be with our partners there. And when you look at
- 58:11Speaker 6: this Ohio State team, what I think is so fascinating
- 58:14Speaker 6: about what they've done, They're nine good minutes of football
- 58:17Speaker 6: away from having a win over Texas, but there are
- 58:20Speaker 6: also some kinks in the armor, and most notably what
- 58:22Speaker 6: this Ohio State team hasn't been able to do when
- 58:25Speaker 6: it comes to creating explosive runs. There have been none
- 58:29Speaker 6: to really speak of, and their strength to schedule isn't
- 58:31Speaker 6: exactly elite, You look at the target share and Jeremiah Smith,
- 58:35Speaker 6: 66 targets so far this season. The next closest wide
- 58:39Speaker 6: receiver on Ohio State has 21. I know Smith had
- 58:42Speaker 6: a big game against Indiana in the Big Ten Championship,
- 58:45Speaker 6: but we forget that he had a legitimate running mate
- 58:48Speaker 6: in Carnell Tate, a top five pick. If you're Kurt Cignetti,
- 58:51Speaker 6: I don't think you feel nearly as confident with what
- 58:53Speaker 6: you have in the defensive backfield now in 2026 compared
- 58:57Speaker 6: to what you had with the national title winning group
- 58:59Speaker 6: a season ago. But you only, and I say it facetiously,
- 59:02Speaker 6: have to take away one weapon for Ohio State. Jim,
- 59:05Speaker 6: it reminds me of when teams used to look for
- 59:08Speaker 6: a path to defend Michael Jordan. You either give him
- 59:11Speaker 6: his 60 and you take away everything else, or you
- 59:13Speaker 6: put all of your defensive resources into neutralizing what Jordan
- 59:17Speaker 6: could do and make someone else beat you. And I
- 59:19Speaker 6: think Indiana is going to have to figure out creative
- 59:22Speaker 6: ways to adopt one of those two strategies. Meanwhile, on
- 59:24Speaker 6: the other side for Indiana, they've done a phenomenal job
- 59:27Speaker 6: of trying to take Josh Hoover out of his gunslinger
- 59:30Speaker 6: mentality that caused so many problems at TCU. They do
- 59:34Speaker 6: need to try and get a little bit more going
- 59:35Speaker 6: on the ground, but I don't think this Ohio State
- 59:37Speaker 6: defense is as close to what we saw last year
- 59:39Speaker 6: and who could expect them to perform at that level
- 59:42Speaker 6: knowing that they lost so much NFL talent. So I
- 59:44Speaker 6: can understand full well why Indiana is getting bet here
- 59:47Speaker 6: with the defensive line having a chance to disrupt Julian Sand.
- 59:51Speaker 6: And while this game does have some variance in terms
- 59:53Speaker 6: of the total, I actually like it under at 50.5.
- 59:55Speaker 6: I think both these teams are going to struggle to
- 59:58Speaker 6: sustain drives, and it does feel like the first team
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: to 24 gets out of Bloomington with a win.
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: In the marquee game of the day.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: I saw this. David Hale at ESPN wrote this, that
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Ryan Day is 6-8 straight up, not against the spread,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: 6-8 straight up in games that are decided by 11
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: points or fewer. Can you make a case with that
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: kind of stat floating around out there or history of
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Ryan Day for Indiana on the money line here? Would
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: you just go ahead and money line Indiana if you
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: believe they're going to keep it close?
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: I mean, I think you have to give them a
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: coaching edge.
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: If it's a tight contest in the final six to
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: eight minutes, which sideline do you have more confidence in
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: to get things right? And Kirk Cignetti right now has
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: earned the benefit of the doubt with his ability to
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: win these close games. Of course, we do have the
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: matchup two years ago when Indiana burst onto the scene
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: and Ohio State basically blew them out of the water.
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: But that was a different talent disparity than what we're
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: going to see tomorrow in Bloomington. And it's always fascinating
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: when you look at a game like this, knowing that
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: if the contest had been played last week, we'd have
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: been looking at Ohio State kind of as a one
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: and a half to two point favorite. But people are
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: left with the lasting image of Indiana really struggling in
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: Lincoln against Nebraska, needing that fourth and one conversion and
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: Nick Marsh to give them a little bit of breathing room.
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: So it's a little bit of buyer beware, but I
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: have to imagine odds makers from here to Curacao are
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: going to find themselves rooting for Indiana to cover and
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: potentially win that game outright. So it's never a bad
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: thing to go against Lehman Jim and put yourself on
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: the side.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Of the house. I love that.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Curacao, by the way, there is the bingo word of
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: the day. You can mark that one off the bingo card.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Todd Furman, Bet the Board podcast brought to you today
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: on our show by our friends at Hard Rock Bet.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Make sure you can download the app there, hardrock.bet.com. clay
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: and that'll help us out tremendously when you do that
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: it's almost put up or shut up time for Notre
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: Dame and Miami a little bit more of an interesting
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: game this week for both of them let's go Notre
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Dame first By far their toughest road venture this year
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: as they go to Provo to play BYU. Injury's a
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: factor in this one. Looks like Leonard Moore's going to
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: play defensively for Notre Dame, but no L.J. Martin for BYU.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: How big of an impact is that on Bear Bachmeier
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: and the BYU Cougars offense?
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: I think it's massive.
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: And while I know running backs, at least in the
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: National Football League, are somewhat interchangeable at the collegiate level,
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: it's hard to overstate the importance of a bell cow
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: back in the form of LJ Martin. And even last
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: year when BYU did have a somewhat healthy LJ Martin
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: dealing with a little bit of an ankle injury, when
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: they stepped up in class and played a defense of
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: the caliber they are going to see tomorrow in the
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: form of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish championship, They were
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: blown out of the water, not once but twice, by
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: Texas Tech. And will history repeat itself here? It's tough
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: to go into a game like this without your second-best
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: offensive weapon. I do like what I've seen from Bear
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: Bachmeier and his ongoing development, not just as a runner
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: but as a passer. with some underwhelming weapons on the outside.
- 1:02:54Speaker 6: I mean, Glasker has to be that difference maker. But
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: I've handicapped this game a number of times, tried to
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: find compelling ways to make a case for the underdog,
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: and I'm just not sure where BYU goes to be
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: able to generate offense in this contest. Yes, home field
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: advantage is going to be one of the more electric
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: atmospheres that we're going to see, not just on tomorrow's slate,
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: but maybe across the college football landscape all season.
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: But other than that, I mean, can BYU.
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: Move the football consistently enough to get to, let's say,
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: 17 points that it probably takes for them to cover
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: as a 10-point dog? I know Notre Dame doesn't have
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: the dynamic one-two punch in the backfield of a Jeremiah
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: Love or Jadarian Price like they did a season ago,
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: but they are starting to figure out who their best
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: back may be, and I think Walton has shown flashes
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: of that. I look at this game here and I
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: almost get the feeling, Jim, that it's dog with fleas
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: for BYU. If Notre Dame can adjust to the elements
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: and atmosphere, I think the Irish can win this game
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: going away. And the other thing, I know it's been
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: the narrative that has surrounded Notre Dame. When you look
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: at their strength to schedule, at least at this point
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: in the year, They've played a much more aggressive schedule
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: of opponents than BYU. The win over Wisconsin continues to
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: age better as the Badgers look more buttoned up with
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: Luke Fickle. The dominant win over Purdue, suddenly you go,
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: wait a second, Notre Dame put them in a body
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: bag of Purdue offense that's put up crooked numbers on
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: everybody else. And tell me who BYU's best win is against.
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: I mean, is it a 17-7 win in a rainstorm
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: against BYU? TCU is in a dominant performance in Fort
- 1:04:22Speaker 6: Collins against a Colorado State team that couldn't stop me, you, Lance,
- 1:04:26Speaker 6: and Brownie at this point in our lives that just
- 1:04:28Speaker 6: gave up 60-plus to Texas State. I think BYU's home field,
- 1:04:32Speaker 6: we can't understate the importance. It'll be a three-and-a-half to
- 1:04:35Speaker 6: four-point venue, but I think Notre Dame knows what's at stake.
- 1:04:38Speaker 6: They make a statement, and they keep that win streak
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: of double-digit victories going in Provo tomorrow night.
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: I like the favorites.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Miami at least gets the primetime stage against Florida State.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Great helmet game. But Florida State reminds me, I don't
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: know if you saw it when it was out, Coyote vs. Acme,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: the movie. It does feel like last week that it
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: was the Coyote painting. It was Florida State painting the
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: tunnel on the cliff wall. And then Louisville ran through it.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: And then the Coyote went in and ran into the wall,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: and then there was a train coming once he made
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: it into the tunnel, and that train's going to be
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: Miami this week. It went south for Florida State, and
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: now here comes Miami. Does the Seminoles have anything left
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: in the tank for the Canes?
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: I mean, it was amazing to watch that game last
- 1:05:22Speaker 6: Friday night and see what the one play could do
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: to shatter the fragile psyche around Florida State. Up 14-0,
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: a chance to take a three-touchdown lead, get stopped on downs,
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: and Louisville rips off a 97-yard run. And it basically
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: was all she wrote for the Florida State Seminoles. Louisville
- 1:05:39Speaker 6: from that point forward ran away and hid. This Florida
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: State team is built around the ground game. It's Croma
- 1:05:46Speaker 6: in the backfield and Ashton Daniels. There's not much to
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: speak of when it comes to a vertical passing game.
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: So if they find themselves down in this contest, I'm
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: not sure where they go to try and generate yards
- 1:05:55Speaker 6: and more importantly points. Miami going to be a little
- 1:05:58Speaker 6: bit healthier in this game coming out of the bye,
- 1:06:00Speaker 6: especially in the defensive backfield than where they were going
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: into it. And I think Miami is going to have
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: plenty of success offensively. One thing, though, before you get
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: involved in this game, do check the weather forecast because
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: there is a chance that we could see 25 to
- 1:06:13Speaker 6: 30 mile an hour sustained winds. And if that does
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: come to fruition, it makes it a lot more difficult
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: for the favorite that's being asked to win by margin,
- 1:06:21Speaker 6: knowing how good. Darian Mensah has been getting the ball
- 1:06:24Speaker 6: to Cooper Barkey, getting the ball.
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: To Malachi Toney.
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: So that would be the only thing keeping me off Miami,
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: all running away and hiding. And Jim, to use your
- 1:06:32Speaker 6: favorite phrase, no doubt the definition of a lay it
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: or don't play it type scenario in this historic rivalry.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Good thing is short passes to Malachi Toney in that
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: win turn into sometimes big gains because of his run
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: after catch ability there. One other game before we jump
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: back into the SEC, actually two more. Wisconsin and UCLA,
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: I'm fascinated because of what you said about Wisconsin first
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: half against Notre Dame. That was a tough game. I
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: love this Wisconsin team, and it seems like everybody is
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: throwing Bob Chesney flowers. This feels like Wisconsin coming to
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: town to put it on UCLA. How do you feel
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: about that one?
- 1:07:08Speaker 5: I agree with you.
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: I think Wisconsin wins this game outright. I'm anxiously awaiting
- 1:07:12Speaker 6: a three if it pops in the market. If it doesn't,
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: I'll probably get involved with a Moneyline price tag right
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: around that plus $ 1. 15, plus $ 1. 20 to add to a
- 1:07:20Speaker 6: position that I took earlier in the week with the Badgers,
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: plus $ 3. 50. Bob Chesney does really deserve the flowers and
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: what he's been able to do in a short amount
- 1:07:28Speaker 6: of time in Westwood. Unfortunately, UCLA going to look a
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: little bit different offensively with no Nico. You now have
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: a Cal Poly transfer under center and Ty Dieffenbach who
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: put together nine touchdowns to nine interceptions a season ago
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: with the Mustangs there. And my biggest concern for UCLA
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: is are they out of gas? You can now get
- 1:07:48Speaker 6: a rested Wisconsin team traveling across the country and UCLA
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: was able to force not one, not two, not three,
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: not four, not five, not six, but seven turnovers last
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: week against Oregon and still only manufactured 17 points in
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: that particular contest. Look, Wisconsin's not going to blow you
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: away with an NFL caliber ground game like we've seen,
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: you know, in years past with the likes of Ron
- 1:08:10Speaker 6: Dane or Jonathan Taylor. But I do think Wisconsin can
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: do enough to make UCLA one dimensional. If Colton Joseph
- 1:08:16Speaker 6: can avoid those turnover worthy throws, I look for Wisconsin
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: to go out there and, you know, have a big day.
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: I just wonder, Jim, how many Badger.
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: Fans decided to get out there a couple of days
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: early and Take in the Brewers game for sweep of
- 1:08:30Speaker 6: the L.A. Dodgers and parlay that into a little Saturday
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: afternoon into evening at the Rose Bowl. I actually think
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: you're going to have a lot more Badger fans in
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: the building and you're going to feel to a certain
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: extent like it's Camp Randall West because everybody wants to
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: escape some of that Midwestern weather this year for a
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: weekend afternoon in Southern California.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: There were a big group of Brewers fans there at
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Dodger Stadium yesterday celebrating. So to your point, it may
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: be a twofer. weekend for the Badgers and the folks
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: from Wisconsin uh for that battle back to the sec
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: we go and a little nfl before firman gets out
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: of here uh but in the sec in prime time
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: kentucky speaking of getting flowers will stein's team going for
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: two back-to-back weeks weeks and winning by identical scores uh
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: now they are on the road at oklahoma And Oklahoma,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: both these teams coming off of top 10 upsets last week.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: How do you feel about the Sooners? Do they have
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: enough to beat the Cats at home?
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: I mean, you mentioned Coach Chesney. I'll put Will Stein
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: up there right now.
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: If we were giving out a coach of the year
- 1:09:29Speaker 6: through the first six, seven weeks of the season, I mean,
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: these two would be neck and neck. You look at
- 1:09:34Speaker 6: what Will Stein has been able to accomplish. You know,
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: going into College Station, knocking off A & M as
- 1:09:40Speaker 6: a 17-point underdog. following that up with a narrow victory
- 1:09:44Speaker 6: on the road in Columbia, 35-34, and probably the coup
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: de grace last week upsetting LSU as more than a
- 1:09:50Speaker 6: touchdown underdog by that exact same scoreline in walk-off fashion
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: two weeks in a row.
- 1:09:56Speaker 5: Jim, I really wonder.
- 1:09:56Speaker 6: What Kentucky could possibly have left in the tank for
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: this particular game, going on the road to Norman to
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: take on Oklahoma. Now, the situation's not ideal for Oklahoma
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: because you look at the box score and the way
- 1:10:08Speaker 6: things needed to unfold in Dallas last week, probably not
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: a repeatable situation against Texas. And I believe Bill Connolly
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: had Oklahoma's upset of Texas as the most unlikely outcome
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: that we have seen thus far in college football. But
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: the one thing I will say about the Sooners, John
- 1:10:25Speaker 6: Mateer looked to feel a little bit more comfortable late
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: in that game. And I think he's going to find
- 1:10:30Speaker 6: the opportunity against this Kentucky defense to get a couple
- 1:10:33Speaker 6: of big plays in the passing attack. Oklahoma has been battle-tested.
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: You look at some of the defenses they faced already
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: this year. It's Georgia on the road. It's Michigan on
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: the road. It's Texas in a neutral venue. This might
- 1:10:45Speaker 6: be where the exhale can come in. And while it's
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: always a little bit scary defensively, looking for an Oklahoma
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: team to win by margin. I make the Sooners an
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: eight-point favorite. I think this is a good opportunity to
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: sell some of that Kentucky stock. I like Oklahoma to
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: win this game by 10 plus.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: A number of SEC fans find Texas a team you
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: cheer against a lot. For some reason, there's a lot
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: of Texas hate in the league. A lot of people
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: will be cheering for Florida and Austin, both of these
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: teams coming off disappointing losses. What do you got here?
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: I think that if Texas' offense doesn't show signs of
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: life this week against the current Gators defense, then it's
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: even more time to panic for Arch Manning and what
- 1:11:26Speaker 6: we're not seeing from the Burt Orange to start the season.
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: On the other side, I don't know where Florida goes
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: to consistently move the football. Honestly, I'm not sure who's
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: going to start under center. if it'll be Aaron Filo again,
- 1:11:38Speaker 6: if we're going to see Trammell Jones. But either way,
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: I just don't think Florida is built to move the
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: football through the air against Texas. We've seen over the
- 1:11:46Speaker 6: last couple of weeks that the blueprint is out for
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: how you slow down this group of Gators. You put
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: eight in the box, you tell Jaden Ball that he's
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: not going to be able to run wild, and Florida
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: just can't do nearly enough in the passing attack. I
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: think Texas, despite laying a big number here, it's the
- 1:12:01Speaker 6: only way to look in this game. They're going to
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: find some big plays. Florida doesn't really have an answer
- 1:12:06Speaker 6: for Cam Coleman. I'm not sure they're going to be
- 1:12:07Speaker 6: able to stop the run effectively. But I will say,
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: when you look at some of the recruiting rankings, you
- 1:12:12Speaker 6: better get at Florida now because this is a Gators
- 1:12:16Speaker 6: team that is going to be on a rapid ascent
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: towards the top of the league. And as someone who
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: bet Florida under 7.5, who thought that ticket was dead
- 1:12:23Speaker 6: in the water before the season, or I should say
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: when they beat Ole Miss 52-28.
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: I now suddenly have life done away.
- 1:12:30Speaker 6: If Texas and Georgia can beat the Gators, I'll just
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: need one Gator defeat in the final four weeks. But
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: I wouldn't be selling that Gator stock long term. I'm
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: just not buying it this week for the trip to Austin.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: All right, Furman, quickly to the NFL. On my sheet,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: I've got just two games that have teams with winning
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: records playing each other. One of those is Ravens and
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: Browns in Cleveland. Is there a path to the Browns
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: to win this game and take over a a part
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: of first place in that division?
- 1:13:01Speaker 6: I don't want to make a case for the Browns here,
- 1:13:03Speaker 6: even working under the assumption that it will be Snoop
- 1:13:06Speaker 6: Hundley getting the nod under center for the second straight
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: week for the Baltimore Ravens. You look at the injury
- 1:13:11Speaker 6: report for Cleveland, they are banged up along the offensive line.
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: They are banged up along the defensive line. We're not
- 1:13:17Speaker 6: sure if Casey Concepcion is going to clear concussion protocol.
- 1:13:20Speaker 6: Denzel Boston made an appearance on the injured list. I'm
- 1:13:24Speaker 6: not going to clamor for the Ravens essentially on a
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: short week having played a five-quarter fight last week against
- 1:13:29Speaker 6: the Atlanta Falcons being.
- 1:13:31Speaker 5: The side in this game.
- 1:13:32Speaker 6: But I think this Browns honeymoon phase of the Deshaun
- 1:13:35Speaker 6: Watson experience is over. So I really want no part
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: of the home underdog. But to your point, one of
- 1:13:41Speaker 6: the de facto marquee games pitting a pair of teams
- 1:13:44Speaker 6: with winning records, I just didn't think this would be
- 1:13:46Speaker 6: one of them that was going to be worthy of
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: some of the central focus. But I think Cleveland offensively
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: really struggles to move the ball against the Ravens defense
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: that's getting better each week under Jesse Minter's leadership.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Bills and Raiders, the other one there in Vegas. Caleb
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: Williams looks like he's returning. I don't know what you're hearing.
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: I'd love to hear what you're hearing and the impact
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: that has on the Falcons-Bears game.
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: I would put his return at about an 80 to 85%
- 1:14:13Speaker 6: probability here. I don't think the Bears allow him to
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: go to the podium and take questions from the media
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: if they were going to keep him out for another week.
- 1:14:20Speaker 6: Although I feel some of this was accelerated by Tyson
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: Bajan's poor performance last week against the Packers because the
- 1:14:26Speaker 6: Bears will be on a short week next Thursday against
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: the New England Patriots. So it's going to be interesting
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: to see what they can do if it means Caleb
- 1:14:33Speaker 6: Williams has to stay in the pocket and and can't
- 1:14:36Speaker 6: make some of those off-platform, off-schedule throws that has made
- 1:14:40Speaker 6: him such a valuable asset for what Chicago wants to do.
- 1:14:43Speaker 6: And the problem for the Bears right now is they're
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: banged up the running back position. No Kyle Monunga for
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: the second straight week. DeAndre Swift, I believe, will give
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: it a go from the people I've talked around that organization,
- 1:14:53Speaker 6: but nowhere close to 100%. And on the flip side
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: of things, the Falcons were able to dodge a proverbial bullet.
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: I mean, there was real talk when Tua Tagovailoa had
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: to finish the game on Sunday Night Football that Tua
- 1:15:04Speaker 6: might be getting the start. but Michael Penix logs a
- 1:15:06Speaker 6: full for Wednesday's practice. I think this Bears defense was
- 1:15:09Speaker 6: a little bit of a fraud when you look at
- 1:15:12Speaker 6: their performances against the Jets, the Vikings, and the Philadelphia
- 1:15:15Speaker 6: Eagles in three straight weeks. They were exposed last week,
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: and I think the Falcons can do the same. The
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: hard part here is that you had a chance to
- 1:15:20Speaker 6: grab the Falcons earlier this week as a three-point home underdog.
- 1:15:23Speaker 6: We're now looking at them catching one, one and a half.
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: Hard Rock Bet, some of the best teaser prices out there.
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: I would use a six-point teaser, get them through the three,
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: the four, the six, and the seven, and maybe tease
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: them with the Dallas Cowboys.
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: In the Sunday nighter as well.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: Oh, I like that a lot. By the way, Daniel
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: says Bears defense banged up too, so Bijan may go
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: for 300 yards rushing in that game. Hey, you always
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: give us an off-the-radar pick. Where are you going this week? College, NFL?
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Give me the play.
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: You know what?
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: One of the off-the-radar games I didn't think you were
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: going to hit on was Wisconsin-UCLA. So that was kind
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: of the direction that I was going to trend.
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: But you know what? Let's do things a little bit differently.
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: And I try and scroll through and see what numbers
- 1:16:04Speaker 6: haven't moved since we started our segment here. Let's go
- 1:16:08Speaker 6: to the ACC, and I know there's been a little
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: bit of money that's come in against me on this
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: game this morning. I'm going to lay the points here
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: with Virginia Tech and that 8.5-9 range against Georgia Tech.
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: This is a Yellow Jackets group that's banged up. I
- 1:16:21Speaker 6: think James Franklin wasn't as good as what the team
- 1:16:24Speaker 6: looked like over the first couple weeks of the season,
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: but I do think they have a bounce-back performance here.
- 1:16:29Speaker 6: Vatek should be able to hit some explosions both on
- 1:16:31Speaker 6: the ground and through the air. So give me Virginia
- 1:16:34Speaker 6: Tech laying the 9 against Georgia Tech for our off-the-radar
- 1:16:37Speaker 6: game this week.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: I know you're always concerned if we're on the same page.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: I've already got my pick three later. I don't think
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: you can see me, but if you can, I like
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Virginia Tech giving the points. I like Wisconsin with the points.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: And my other one is Air Force giving the points.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: So if that shies you away from that pick when
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: you actually put your hard-earned money on.
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: It, go ahead.
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: That's a little bit problematic, Dunaway.
- 1:16:58Speaker 6: I don't like going into the weekend knowing I'm already
- 1:16:59Speaker 6: staring down the barrel of an 0-1 or maybe in
- 1:17:01Speaker 6: this case an 0-2 start.
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: So maybe it's time to take the wife to a movie.
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: On Saturday afternoon and not watch my money go up
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: in flames at the betting window being on the same
- 1:17:11Speaker 6: side as Lehman Jim.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: Oh, you're always fantastic, man. And my wife always says, God,
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: does that guy hate you as much as he acts
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: like he does on the air? And I'm like, yes,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: he does. But we're friends. Have a great week, Furman.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: We appreciate you so much.
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: Always a pleasure, Jim.
- 1:17:26Speaker 6: Hold down the fort in the boys' absence and make
- 1:17:28Speaker 6: sure they don't have too much fun in Gatlinburg.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: Absolutely. I mean, that's two words that's hard to do.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Make sure they have not that much fun in Gatlinburg.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: Furman is Bet the Board, Bet the Board podcast. He's
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: part of our Hard Rock family here. You can be
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: part of the Hard Rock family, too. It is Florida's

- 1:17:59Speaker 1: some of you are watching this right now out in Colorado,

- 1:18:27Speaker 1: backslash clay. The guys from Gatlinburg rejoin us next. We'll
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: get to our headlines coming up here in just a second. Our, uh,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: Way too early headlines. But first, a little something brewing
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: before LT tells us about Clay Travis Law. Guys, I
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: don't know if you've seen a little bit of a
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: beef going on now between Buck and Aikman in the
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: broadcast booth. And there's talk of maybe this being the
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: end of the year. I'll give you the details, but
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: I want to let you listen first. to this interview
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: from Troy Aikman yesterday on the ticket in Dallas. Here
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: is Troy Aikman getting asked about a potential rift going
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: on now between his partner of 25 years, Joe Buck,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: and then, of course, the possibility of him not being
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: back at ESPN. Listen in.
- 1:19:19Speaker 10: You've been in the headlines the last couple of days,
- 1:19:22Speaker 10: so we thought we would start here. You and Joe
- 1:19:25Speaker 10: have been just an incredible broadcast team for 25 years.
- 1:19:29Speaker 10: And it's been made public that Joe has a new
- 1:19:33Speaker 10: deal with ESPN and you don't. And there's been some
- 1:19:39Speaker 10: stories the last couple of days that that's now causing
- 1:19:42Speaker 10: tension between you two. We just wanted to get your
- 1:19:45Speaker 10: perspective on this. And are these reports true?
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: And what's going on?
- 1:19:50Speaker 7: Well, I think there's probably a time and a place
- 1:19:54Speaker 7: for all that to be discussed. I don't know if
- 1:19:56Speaker 7: now's the time. I don't know that it's hard to
- 1:19:59Speaker 7: figure out kind of what's happened, but I'll broadcast through
- 1:20:05Speaker 7: this season and I'll be a free agent at the
- 1:20:07Speaker 7: end of the year and kind of see what happens.
- 1:20:10Speaker 7: But I'm looking forward to whatever the rest of this
- 1:20:13Speaker 7: year does hold and with the Super Bowl and all
- 1:20:15Speaker 7: that and where my next landing spot might be.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: That's Troy Aikman yesterday not pulling any punches. That deal,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: by the way, $ 108 million through 2031 for Buck, and
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: ESPN has been slow in pursuing Aikman on their new deal.
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: Well, you guys know I'm not the biggest Buck fan.
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: I think he does a really good job on play-by-play,
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: but I do think the more important piece is Troy
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: Aikman because I think Troy Aikman is the best football
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: analyst in the game.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: I agree. And, look, we know this.
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: I mean, look, you– you know, work with people for
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: years and years and years, there becomes tension. But, you know,
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: for them to not give Aikman a deal and to
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: give Buck that massive deal, boy, that's crazy.
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: And you could tell, not happy about it at all. Yeah,
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: my next landing spot would be a key phrase in there, Dunaway.
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: And you've got to think, right, with Tony Romo out
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: at CBS, I don't know how they feel about J.J. Watt,
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: how well he's done, but you've got to wonder, is
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: CBS a suitor for Troy Aikman?
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: I would say NBC, too. I'd say NBC, too.
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: So you think Collinsworth might retire? Is that what you're suggesting?
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: He's been doing it a long time.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Would you think this would bode well for our
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: buddy Dan Orlovsky? Like, if he left, is that the
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: obvious replacement for Eggman in the booth with Joe Buck?
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: I hope so. I mean, I like Orlovsky, but I
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: don't know.
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: I love Dan.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: It's hard to see Buck doing it with anybody other
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: than Aikman. And I'm with you guys. I like Buck.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: I like what he does. But part of the reason
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: I like Buck is because of Troy Aikman and how
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: it's an easy listen with both of them. It's just comfortable.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: They don't get into it too much.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: I agree. But what a disaster. They have finally gotten
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: the Super Bowl. At ABC-ESPN. ABC had it years ago,
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: but ESPN-ABC, they finally got back to the Super Bowl mix,
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: and this is what you've got. You've got your team,
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: your broadcast team, breaking up.
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: And it is the best broadcast team in football, as
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: good as Herbstreet and Fowler are, and we talk about
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: our buddy Greg McIlroy and what he's able to do
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: with Sean McDonough, but this is.
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: the top of the top.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: I'll tell you, I don't believe Joe Buck is going
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: to win the PR battle here because he's a very
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: pretentious guy. And he's getting the $ 108 million. And I
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: think football fans don't want to see Aikman out of
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: that situation.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: I agree. I don't blame Buck for taking the money.
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: It seems done away. I guess Aikman's issue is they
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: didn't do it as a team that Buck went ahead
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: and bit and left him holding the bag, essentially. Or
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: it could be Buck told ESPN, ABC, hey, look, I
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: don't want to work with the guy anymore. That's possible, too,
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: I believe it's more what you were saying, that Joe
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: went on and took the deal and didn't leave it
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: out there. Hey, let's negotiate this together. We'll both be
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: free agents. We'll stay together. If ESPN doesn't give us
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: both what we want, they will both hit the road again,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: and they would be suitors all over the place for them.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: By the way, apparently they had not talked about it,
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: Buck and Aikman together until Buck brought it up to
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: get rid of the, quote, according to insiders, the elephant
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: in the room in the press box at SoFi before
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: the Bills and Rams game. And that's when Buck brought
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: it up way before they were on the air, obviously.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: And it turned into those insiders saying it was a heated, loud,
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: verbal argument between the two in the booth that calmed
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: down just moments before the light went on for the broadcast.
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: I'll take Troy Aikman minus the 10,000 odds there. You're
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: going to lay those points. Yeah, this is Mike Tyson
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: against Joe Glass.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: But the fact that they turned around and actually broadcast
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: that great Bills-Rams game with nobody knowing at home shows
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: you what pros they are.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: I mean, I have not been able to tell anything.
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: I was shocked when I saw it earlier this week.
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: And now what's going to be more interesting, what game
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: do they have this weekend?
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: Um, I can't remember who the Monday night game is. It's,
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: is it green Bay? No, that's Sunday. That's Sunday night. Yeah.
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: I don't know who they have.
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: I can look anyway. That's a must see now. Well,
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: I mean, now that you know, right. I mean, it,
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: we've got half a year to go and then the
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: playoffs and then they're doing the super bowl. Now that
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: you know, this is a story. I mean, people are
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: going to be watching just to see if they can
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: hear conflict. Right. Um, And I guess for ESPN, they're watching.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: My shock in all this, I just don't understand why
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: ESPN will let Eggman walk. I mean. I understand. And maybe, yeah,
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: maybe you look at it, Jim, and you're like, well,
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: CBS let, you know, they punted Romo and have their
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: ratings dropped any? It's about the games. But I don't know, man.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: You just seem like you haven't seen it.
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: And it shows you the social media influence because McAfee
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: and Stephen A. Smith can't touch Troy Eggman. And they're
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: paying those guys a fortune. And there's a reason they're
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: paying them a fortune.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: The show today being brought to you by our friends
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: at Clay Travis Law. Tell us about Clay Travis.
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: Law, Lance.
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: Accidents do not wait for a good time. One bad moment,
- 1:25:16Speaker 3: a wreck, a fall. Doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: you're fighting an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: That's why our friend Clay started Clay Travis Law. Built
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: a firm around one idea. People deserve someone willing to
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: pay attention, ask those hard questions, and push back when
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: things don't add up. Experienced trial attorneys. who bring the
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: fight to corporations and insurers based in Nashville, trusted across

- 1:25:53Speaker 2: That's claytravislaw.com. No case too big or too small. All right.
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: It's time to do our way too early headlines. before
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: the games are even played. Brown, start us off this week.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: All right. I am going to go to the Longhorn Longform.
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: They write long-form stories about Texas athletics, and they found
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: the reason for Arch Manning's struggles is linked to a
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: new relationship. He's dating Yoko Ono.
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: Oh, wow.
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: He likes older women? He likes older women, and Yoko
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: Ono's tearing up the team, man. That's why Arch is struggling. Dude,
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: that is a dusty bat cave.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: I thought you were going to go with Madison Beer, Brownie.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: No, no, no. He likes the older women. He's got
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: Yoko Ono.
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: This does make sense. I mean, she definitely pulled the Beatles.
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: If you can break up the Beatles.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: That's right. She's broke up Texas football now. Page two,
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: Birmingham man is going to release results of his new
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: pancake-only diet after a Gatlinburg visit. Lance loves pancake. All
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: he's going to eat here is pancakes, and we're going
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: to find out what that does for his diet there.
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: Yeah, side note on that before you get to your
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: other side headline. Our buddy Richard Holland here said that
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: he just walked past. What's the name of the pancake?
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: Pancake Pantry. Yeah, pancake.
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: He said 70 deep, done away in line. And there
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: is literally, you could sling a dead cat and hit.
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: seven pancake restaurants like why would you wait in line
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: for one.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: Every corner in gatlinburg's a pancake restaurant you got people
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: 70 deep at the pancake pantry uh page three after
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: went over charlotte elko upgrades texas forums to septic tank
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: level so they've moved out of the cesspool they're now
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: in the septic tank that way that's.
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: An upgrade that is an upgrade and i'm correct right
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: lt because of travel you do not have one is
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: that correct Yeah.
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: I'm calling the game in Gatlinburg. It actually snuck up
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: on me. Brown asked me this morning, and Tyler asked me,
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: and I was like, son of a bitch.
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: It's okay. A lot going on here. Travel, I understand.
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: I've got mine.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Here's mine this week. It's from the field of 12
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: plus 12. I'm starting a new website. Instead of the
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: field of 68, it's the field of 12 plus 12.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: My first headline, Sark seeks Otani's advice on managing expensive payrolls.
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: That is pretty good.
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: They're getting the same results, aren't they? A picture there
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: of Sark and Otani together. Sark seeking the Otani advice
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: on managing expensive payroll. Texas coach turns to baseball star
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: for financial wisdom. Second headline. Georgia becomes the first state
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: to celebrate no flag day.
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: It worked out. Yep.
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: They turned the Alabama rejection into a holiday.
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: Yeah, running through them. That commercial, I mean, that photo
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: is not AI, right? Or is that AI? That is
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: not AI.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: Well, they cleaned it up. I did not ask them
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: to clean it up. That's a screenshot I took. But
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: you can tell I think they threw some kind of
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: logo on the Alabama helmet there, as AI tends to do.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: And then finally, the third headline, DeBoer replaces Saban again.
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: He'll now be the one yelling at Aflac in the commercials.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: I wonder how many, I mean, obviously Saban is the
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: maybe most recognizable face in the history of college football.
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: Do you think anybody would recognize DeBoer? Yeah, like if
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: he did the Athlete commercial, it's him in prime. Who's
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: this guy? College football fans would, but I just wonder
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: your marginal fan.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: Yeah, just interesting there is Kalen DeBoer's intensity as starting
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: to win over more and more and more. of the
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: Alabama fans. But tomorrow's a big game for him. Alabama
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: and Tennessee in the chat room, a number of Alabama
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: fans giving reason why they're concerned about the game. One
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: of those being the fact that I think Terrence Green
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: is either out or questionable. Another being the fact that
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: Del Gotti is doubtful for the game. So the injuries
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: for Alabama have some Bama fans concerned there as they
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: head to Neyland Stadium this weekend. We'll give the guys
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: a chance to talk about other games around the country.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: And then, of course, two more hours after our next
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: segment coming up on our At Next Round live platform.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: While you watch or listen to Clay and Buck here
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: on Sporting State, we'll do two more hours live. And
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: you can come back and catch us on our podcast
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: on Spotify or on any of our platforms, social, Instagram, Twitter. Facebook,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: and of course on YouTube at Next Round Live. But
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: one more segment here as we go around the globe
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: in college football here on Sporting State. My buddy Jace,
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: he's singing my tune in the chat room there. He
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: and his beautiful wife Molly talking about going to Gatlinburg.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: He says a little apple butter, a little jacuzzi, good
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: times had by all.
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: I love apple butter. Apple butter on a biscuit is tremendous. Yeah.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: Does your cabin, does y'all's cabin have a jacuzzi?
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: You know, we got there late last night after the sunset,
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: and we left this morning before sunrise. So I haven't
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: really been able to scope the outside. Do you know, Lance,
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: do we have a hot tub? I know we do,
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: but I haven't seen it yet. I will tell you,
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: when we got back, I'm one of those weirdos, Donnelly.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: I've got to unpack everything, so we got in kind
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: of late. But I made sure I unpacked everything.
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: I poured me a bourbon, and I sat out and just–
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: Our view, it might be the best in Gatlinburg. That's
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: kind of a high bar, but Richard Holland, our host here,
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: put us in the most amazing house. It has almost
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: made my decision 100% that I will not see Knoxville
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: this year.
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: Because that house setup is so good. It's a great
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: place to watch a Saturday of football. There's no doubt.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: But there is definitely a hot tub. Is it working?
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: Is it operational?
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: What's been in that hot tub? I mean, based on
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: the place, it's probably pretty clean. I wouldn't drink a
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: glass of water out of it.
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: Probably no. Is there a fundamental difference, Jim, between a
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: jacuzzi and a hot tub? You used the phrase jacuzzi.
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: Are those one and the same?
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: I was reading exactly what Jace had written there. So
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: I don't know the difference.
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: I don't know the difference. I assume a jacuzzi has
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: more jet streams going than a hot tub does.
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: I don't have no idea. Yeah, I don't know. I
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: just I grew up. I grew up in Calhoun County.
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: I certainly don't know.
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: The last time that I was at a place that
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: had had a hot tub, I think it was Indianapolis
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: when we were all verboing in the ice cold of Indianapolis.
- 1:31:59Speaker 7: So.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: I think that's the last time.
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: That place had a hot tub. I did dip my
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: toe in that one.
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: You did.
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: Okay, here you go. I think you can get a
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: heart-shaped hot tub here in Gatlinburg, Jim. If you and
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: Maggie want to come back up here later on, I
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: believe they've got heart-shaped ones. Okay.
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: You guys still sound good. Your picture has frozen, but
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: you still sound fantastic, so we'll stick with you. What
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: do you have for us, sir?
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: Did we lose Dunaway? Did we lose the feed? I
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: guess we did.
- 1:32:26Speaker 6: The answer to your question, all jacuzzis are hot tubs,
- 1:32:29Speaker 6: but not all hot tubs are jacuzzis.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: Because a jacuzzi is a type. All right. Say that again.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: All jacuzzis are hot tubs, but not all hot tubs
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: are jacuzzis.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: A little up there.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: Hey, Dunaway, you'll love this.
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: When we were watching the Brewers fans celebrate, I turn
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: around and I'm talking fresh off the altar.
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: Dude still had his tux on.
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: She had her wedding dress with the train behind it
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: dragging across the floor of this sports bar.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: They nestle up to a table. The shot girl comes over.
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: They start doing jello shots.
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: Literally done away straight from the ceremony. He is in
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: a tux. She's in a wedding dress and a sports
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: bar in Gatlinburg.
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: And I got to be honest, like this is going
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: to sound really shallow. They look like a normal couple.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33:15Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: I mean, they did. Yeah.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: Brownie, tell us about XXXY, and we'll talk a little
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: football here before we get to the top of the hour.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: Yeah, Jennifer Say, she's a national champion gymnast, former brand
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: manager at Levi's, and rather than say something she didn't
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: believe in, she started her own brand, XXXY Athletics. Walked
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: away from that corporate job, did that. The mission, in

- 1:34:13Speaker 1: Jace is Jace, former caller, now poster in the chat room.
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: He has an interesting part of our history with the
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: show now going on 18 years.
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: Jace was the guy who used to call us up.
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: And we had interns, sometimes young college interns that would
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: screen calls. And Jace is probably the only listener slash
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: viewer that ever dated our interns.
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: So he's got that history of the show. He comes
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: up to all of our remotes. In the chat room,
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: Jay says, full disclosure, Dunaway, that wasn't Molly that was
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: with me in Gatlinburg. That was pre-Molly, his wife. He says,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: interesting twist, though. That happened 10 years before I met Molly.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: Turns out the girl I was with then was Molly's cousin. Meredith,
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: very sweet girl. Shout out Shelton State women's soccer team.
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: Jay's one of the more interesting dating trees of all time,
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: Well, I would love to see how extended Thanksgiving is.
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: Jace says in the chat he can do a segment
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: next hour if you want.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: I think we're good right now, Jace. I don't want
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: to get you into any trouble because if I put
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: you on the witness stands, that opens you up to
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: questioning from the cross-examination from Lance, and that could get
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: you into trouble. So we'll keep you off the witness
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: stand there. We just love your comments in the chat room.
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: All right, here's games to talk about.
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: Go ahead, Lance. No, no, no.
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: I was just saying what they're preparing here in the
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: next hour, you're going to die done away.
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: This is going to be quite the task.
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: The last time I did one of these tasks was
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: at the Floribama when you and I had a side
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: wager on if I could have more drinks in a
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: day than Alabama had pass attempts.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: Well, T's ahead for us right now. So what's coming
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: up in the second half of the next round?
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: I mean, this is probably not wise, but I have
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: taken on the challenge. I am going to try to
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: go around the world and do a shot of every
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: one of their varieties of moonshine.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: Okay, that's what the chat room's been cheering for all morning.
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: I'm sure. I'm sure of my demise. Everybody that wants
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: me dead, this could be the opportunity.
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: Well, I mean, help us out here. The Tennessee Shine Company,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: you see the big sign behind us there in downtown Gatlinburg.
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: A shot of shine, compare that to a shot of
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: some other liquor. I mean, how potent is a shot
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: of shine?
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: What is the ABV on this? What's proof? Is it
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: like 40? 35 to 55.
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: So, you know, I don't know. Three is probably the
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: equivalent to one.
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: So, Dunaway. I mean, they're small shots. The grand finale
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: is going to be the panty dropper. Lance is going
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: to drop his panties at the end of the show.
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: Everybody needs to stick around.
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: Yeah, if you thought Dirk Diggler with the prosthetic we
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: talked about yesterday was something, just wait.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: Wow, humble brag. Tennessee Shine Company there. We'll see what
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: meat has to do a little bit later on in
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: the show. Meanwhile, Ole Miss is swinging a big stick
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: over in Oxford these days. Here's Pete Golding on battling
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: the former Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons and his familiarity
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: with the Rebels defense.
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: You know, I think the big deal in every week
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: is how do you make the same things look different
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: and different things look the same. And so, like, you
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: want to make quarterbacks play after they get the ball.
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: In their hand.
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: And you want to think, hey, this is what I
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: think it is. This is what coaches told me all week.
- 1:37:33Speaker 4: And this is where I'm supposed to go with the ball. Oh, shit,
- 1:37:36Speaker 4: it's not that. And then there's the indecision component of it.
- 1:37:39Speaker 4: You know, so obviously week in and week out, you've
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: shown certain things on tape, right, that, you know, this
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: is what they're watching.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: This is what they're expecting. All right. All right.
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: How can we show that? And then now what's the
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: compliment to it based on what they're going to do?
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: So that's the battle you play every week. That's the
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: chess match that I love. Does that make sense? So
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: there are several things that you're going to make it
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: look like. We did this in week three. We did
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: this in week four. It's going to look the same.
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: It's not the same. But I think that's every week.
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: That's not specific to Austin Simmons. I think that's conceptually
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: week in and week out.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: See, of all the games, and I hate to say this,
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: I know Notre Dame, BYU, Ohio State, Indiana. Ohio State
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: and Indiana I'm all in on, and of course the
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: local SEC games. But this Missouri Ole Miss game out
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: of the SEC, for some reason, Has me tremendously on
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: the edge of my seat wanting to see who Missouri
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: is and who Ole Miss is, Brown.
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: Well, I would agree. And again, there are two games
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: nationally I think you could say may be the best
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: quarterback matchup in the nation. One of them is Oklahoma
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: State-Drew Mestermaker against Houston. And Connor Wegman. And Connor Wegman.
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: But I think this one, this one might be better
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: than that. You could argue that this with Austin Simmons
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: versus Trinidad Chambliss is the best quarterback matchup we'll get
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: on what is a great weekend of college football.
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: Well, when you look at the talent evaluators out there,
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: we talk about some of the draft projections. Both of
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: these guys, Austin Simmons and Trinidad Chambliss, the way they're
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: playing are projected top 15 guys overall.
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: Right now.
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: Mestermaker is in that top 15, maybe the first quarterback
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: taken off the board. Nobody's talking about Wegman yet. I
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: think he might end up creeping up there. We'll see
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: in a big matchup, but I agree with you guys.
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: The way Austin Simmons is playing right now, and he's
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: going to come into this game playing with the chip
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: on his shoulder, and you look at Missouri, the last
- 1:39:23Speaker 3: two opponents, they have absolutely dusted them, outscoring those opponents
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: 72 to 23, and not bad opponents. Florida, when they
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: were on a heater, and then last week against A & M,
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: Missouri has gotten dominant. And they've got, you know, not
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: only Austin Simmons, but Jamal Roberts leading the SEC in rushing.
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: And then Caden Lee has turned into a true weapon,
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: one of the best wide receivers. And I think if
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: you had your all SEC first team right now, Caden
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: Lee would be on that.
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: Interesting comment here from Jay Bank. He says, enough of
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: those shots, LT. You're going to pull a Sidney Sweeney
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: and only be wearing the Hard Rock helmet by the
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: end of the show.
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: Oh, gosh. You've got to hold it. I don't know.
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: You might be able to get away with that in Gatlinburg.
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: It's Lance. This is how you hold it. I've seen
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: the commercial. You've got to hold it like that right there.
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: You've got to press them together there, squeeze them inside
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: the helmet there.
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: Oops. Maybe drop my iPad doing that. That'll be interesting.
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: All right, LT, I've got to ask you about two
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: other games, Notre Dame and Miami. I guess Notre Dame
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: is a little bit more challenging, but because of their schedule,
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: they haven't really been on the main stage yet. They
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: play later in November. Is this the start of the
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: time to shine for Notre Dame and Miami, both of
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: them in prime time tonight? Is this time for the
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: Irish and the Canes to shine?
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: You know, for Miami, I don't think it really matters.
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: We've seen how bad this Florida State defense is. They've
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: lost 10 consecutive road games. They are 10 and 20
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: since the ACC championship game that they won with a
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: backup quarterback against Louisville.
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: So not a great product.
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: Miami probably could name their score, and I would not
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: be surprised if they go out there and try to
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: name their score. But on the other side, I do
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: think Notre Dame, this is the first big test. And
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: the one thing that we wanted to know, is Notre
- 1:41:09Speaker 3: Dame going to be able to run the football once
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: you lost, oh.
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: My gosh, why am I forgetting? Jeremiah Love.
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: Jeremiah Love and Jadarian Price. And the answer is yes,
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: over 600 rushing yards their last couple of games. Jonas Walton,
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: the true freshman, has gone over 300 over the last
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: couple of games. So Notre Dame effectively running the football.
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: On the other side, we've talked about this in depth,
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: no L.J. Martin for BYU. All the pressure is on
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: Bear Bachmeier. This will be maybe the biggest game in
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: the history of that stadium. It's the first ever top
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: ten matchup. That's crazy to think. I mean, BYU's had
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: a pretty good football history. And I know they spent
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: a lot of time as an independent. They haven't always
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: been in a power conference. But to think this is
- 1:41:52Speaker 3: the first top 10 matchup they've ever hosted there, Jim,
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: kind of surprises me. And I don't know if you
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: guys believe this. I really personally believe this is the
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: best stretch of BYU football. Now, they had Heisman Trophy
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: winners and they won a national championship at 84. But
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: the competition, not even close to what they've been playing recently.
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: And they're 28-4 over their last 32 games. And Kalani Stock,
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: he's done an incredible job. But I think this is
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: a little too much for BYU. They're 5-0 against the number.
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: I might even be circling this on the old pick
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: three coming up in a little bit. But I like
- 1:42:26Speaker 3: Notre Dame minus the points in this spot.
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: Me too. Me too. I'm all in on Notre Dame.
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: Maybe even into a blowout situation. From the chat room,
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: everyone seems now, LT, to be you doing a later tonight,
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: your Lance's Locked show. From the hot tub after all
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: your shots of Tennessee shine.
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: Yeah, Brown, would you be up to maybe hosting, helping
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: host me on that?
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: Maybe possibly. Probably.
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: From the hot tub. We'll see what the look is going. And, yeah,
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: we'll get wild tonight. We'll get wild in Gatlinburg.
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so Lance in the hot tub doing the Lance's
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: like show, Jim. It'll be like Coach Brown, Jason Brown. Yeah,
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: Jason Brown. Is that what the audience is asking for, Jim?
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: Troy says, LT hot tub live stream loading now. You
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: already done this, Royal Payne says. You guys did the
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: Uber stream. You hosted that, Brownie. Why not do this? Now,
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: Forrester just was pointing out to me and Brooks on
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: the back row that you will not have AI to
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: make your muscles look correct, so you may want to
