- 0:07Speaker 1: This mediate podcast. Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer
- 0:16Speaker 1: new Heart, and today we're joined by Janice tell Us,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Brodie Henderson, Seth Morris Chester, Floyd Hayden, Samic, Marge Smith
- 0:24Speaker 1: and Max Barta. This is a ten round quiz show
- 0:27Speaker 1: with questions from meat eaters four verticals which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:32Speaker 1: conservation and cooking, and there is a prize. Meat Eater
- 0:34Speaker 1: will donate five dollars to the conservation organization of the
- 0:38Speaker 1: winners choosing now. This week we have a bit of
- 0:42Speaker 1: a twist because I'm so damn excited about Seth and
- 0:45Speaker 1: Chester's new show, Montana Walleye Tour. Every question this game
- 0:50Speaker 1: is tied to fishing, and we have a lot of
- 0:52Speaker 1: very fishy folks in the room. How do you guys
- 0:55Speaker 1: feel about an entire game that's dedicated to fishing Trivia?
- 0:59Speaker 1: I think you could have given me a heads up.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Would have changed if I gave you a head up? Ni,
- 1:06Speaker 1: I don't know. Washing last weekend to videos about fishing,
- 1:14Speaker 1: I would say I would have to dig deep chives.
- 1:17Speaker 1: We have three fisherman like full time fisherman in here
- 1:22Speaker 1: we being who Seth Chester? Brody? What do you mean
- 1:25Speaker 1: like full time? She's like more of a big game,
- 1:28Speaker 1: bro I used to host of fishing podcast. Was this
- 1:33Speaker 1: last time you fished people out ice fishing? Uh? Sunday? Okay,
- 1:39Speaker 1: I feel like Hayden's going to be a up honest,
- 1:44Speaker 1: don't you have some fishing bona fides? No? What does
- 1:47Speaker 1: that mean? Exactly? Like cred Yeah? Oh, I mean I
- 1:53Speaker 1: guided trout fishing fly rod for a decade. Max? Is
- 1:56Speaker 1: that count? When was the last time you fished? I
- 2:00Speaker 1: don't think I haven't fished through the ice yet this year,
- 2:03Speaker 1: And honestly, I don't know if I strung up a
- 2:06Speaker 1: road all last summer break. Yeah, that's right. When we're
- 2:10Speaker 1: in miles. You have to edit thatwhere somewhere in Montana
- 2:15Speaker 1: we did some fition, Max, Max, just trying to set
- 2:19Speaker 1: us up for a letdown. Too many fishy folks in
- 2:22Speaker 1: the room. Now, Seth and Chester tell us a bit
- 2:24Speaker 1: about the show, which had the first episode drop on
- 2:27Speaker 1: YouTube yesterday. Kick it off, seth Uh, So, it's a
- 2:32Speaker 1: Montana Walleye tour where Chester and I travel across the
- 2:36Speaker 1: Great State of Montana, to uh three different terms. It's
- 2:41Speaker 1: four episodes, but we we had three different walleye tournaments
- 2:45Speaker 1: and compete um and there's a pretty exciting moments. So
- 2:50Speaker 1: I recommend tune and in what's the extra episode then
- 2:53Speaker 1: that we see? Well, the first episode is Chat and
- 2:56Speaker 1: I driving to Minnesota to pick up our tournament boat
- 3:00Speaker 1: at a Loomacraft and then we rig it with all
- 3:03Speaker 1: the electronics, trolling motor, that kind of stuff, and then
- 3:06Speaker 1: from there we head to four Peck where we spend
- 3:09Speaker 1: two days of pre fishing, and it's a totally smooth process,
- 3:12Speaker 1: right like everything you guys envisioned happening with the boat happens,
- 3:15Speaker 1: no no issues along the way. In episode one, yes,
- 3:17Speaker 1: exactly did you got on the long drive back from Minnesota?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Did you guys get in an argument about who's the
- 3:26Speaker 1: captain of the boat? I said, yeah, I said, I
- 3:29Speaker 1: am the captain. No, it was it was a blast,
- 3:36Speaker 1: like we had a lot of fun. It was. It's
- 3:39Speaker 1: challenging to, you know, produce a show when you're in
- 3:42Speaker 1: these tournaments, but yeah, it's basically like what you guys
- 3:46Speaker 1: are going to see is like two goofballs, just figuring
- 3:50Speaker 1: it out along the way. This is our first you
- 3:52Speaker 1: know tournaments we ever fished. Um, yeah, it was, it was.
- 3:57Speaker 1: It was great, And you guys do well. You don't
- 3:59Speaker 1: go out there and get shell every time, the last
- 4:01Speaker 1: one competing at the top of the leaderboard every time? Right, Uh?
- 4:05Speaker 1: Not every time. Our first two tournaments were pretty good
- 4:09Speaker 1: in my opinion. Our last one we we got our
- 4:11Speaker 1: assess and to us, okay, it's still good programming. I
- 4:14Speaker 1: don't like watching a sporting event if I already know
- 4:17Speaker 1: the outcome. This is different, though. I'm very excited to
- 4:20Speaker 1: see the Montana Wallet Tour now, Max and Marge, you
- 4:22Speaker 1: guys spent a lot of time making this come together
- 4:25Speaker 1: behind the scenes. What were some of your favorite moments
- 4:27Speaker 1: from the show. Do you want to go first? Well,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I would say I had less of in hand, to
- 4:32Speaker 1: be honest. I really did the graphical elements and worked
- 4:34Speaker 1: on the wonderful fun intro that y'all will be treated
- 4:38Speaker 1: to getting to see. But it's always great margin all
- 4:40Speaker 1: the graphics for pardon my plate, and she killed it
- 4:43Speaker 1: every time. So I'm looking forward to Montana Wallet Tour. Well,
- 4:46Speaker 1: thank you, guys, I appreciate that. Um. I think my favorite, though,
- 4:49Speaker 1: was from Fresno. When the rod gets sucked out of
- 4:52Speaker 1: the back the boat. That's Fresno, right, yep, So I
- 4:55Speaker 1: don't I won't say anything more to that, but stay
- 4:58Speaker 1: tuned for a missing rod in action. Yeah, and then
- 5:02Speaker 1: I think I had a big portion of it because
- 5:06Speaker 1: I was actually on a couple of the fishing trips
- 5:09Speaker 1: too as well and uh filming and driving the chase boat.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Um so yeah, I think I went on the maiden
- 5:16Speaker 1: voyage at can Ferry with you guys um Fort Peck
- 5:20Speaker 1: and then tiber Ye, which you were like, it was
- 5:25Speaker 1: very nice to have you Max. Yeah, it was probably
- 5:28Speaker 1: one of my favorite things that I did this last time.
- 5:30Speaker 1: It was just like hanging out with these two and
- 5:33Speaker 1: driving around a boat and with the camera in my hands.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So but I think my favorite trip was the fot Pack,
- 5:39Speaker 1: just the win the waves and big fish. It's great.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Episode one on YouTube right now now. In honor of
- 5:48Speaker 1: this fishy episode of Trivia, our stat of the Week
- 5:50Speaker 1: this week is looking at player performance in the fishing category.
- 5:55Speaker 1: The person who is best at phishing questions is Ryan Callahan.
- 6:00Speaker 1: He gets of phishing questions right. That's closely followed by
- 6:05Speaker 1: Steve Ronnella at fifty eight percent, Brodie Henderson at fifty
- 6:09Speaker 1: seven percent, and Janice Potellis attent. They are our only
- 6:14Speaker 1: competitors who get over half of their fishing questions correct.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Those are bona fides. Honest, we don't have an advantage.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I might not even get a single one of these.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I need a little T shirt. Cal Cal even poked
- 6:29Speaker 1: his head in the room, said he got too many
- 6:30Speaker 1: trivia players and then ducked out, despite him having the
- 6:34Speaker 1: best score when it comes to getting fishing questions correct.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I feel like I was a little too intimidating when
- 6:40Speaker 1: he popped in the door. I should have let him
- 6:42Speaker 1: get into his seat and then started applying the pressure.
- 6:46Speaker 1: How had he known this, he'd be feeling pretty good
- 6:49Speaker 1: about being here right now, but instead we have Brodie
- 6:52Speaker 1: Henderson and Jane Pellis. Now I'm way more nervous when
- 6:58Speaker 1: Steve's not here and it's me and hot because okay, yeah,
- 7:02Speaker 1: is honest is the guy that scares me? We have
- 7:06Speaker 1: some housekeeping to get to. In a previous game of trivia,
- 7:09Speaker 1: we had a question about the Yiddish term for we're
- 7:12Speaker 1: duck fat. The correct answer was schmaltz, but Janice said schmutz.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Now Joannice didn't get that right, but Shlomo Franklin wrote
- 7:22Speaker 1: in to say that Janice deserves some credit because schmutz
- 7:25Speaker 1: is actually a Yiddish term that means dirt. In the
- 7:29Speaker 1: same episode, we also had Steve trying to remember the
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yiddish term for sex, which Shlomo wanted to let us
- 7:35Speaker 1: know is stopping. So there you go. Schmaltz is duck fat,
- 7:39Speaker 1: Schmutz is dirt, and stopping is sex. It sounds like
- 7:45Speaker 1: a fun language, and that to Shlomo name d I
- 7:55Speaker 1: love that name. Say those four words fast fast, It's
- 7:59Speaker 1: me up. Schmutz already messed up. Also in a previous
- 8:03Speaker 1: game of trivia, when trying to describe what a Pengulin
- 8:06Speaker 1: looks like, I told Phil it resembles a Pokemon. Well,
- 8:10Speaker 1: a few listeners wrote in to say that Pokemon at
- 8:12Speaker 1: number twenty seven, San True is actually based on a penguin.
- 8:17Speaker 1: The appearance is so similar that in the Singapore Zoo
- 8:21Speaker 1: rescued a six week old Pegulin, which they named sand True.
- 8:25Speaker 1: So Phil, for the second time in Meat Eater Trivia history,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I'm coming to you for some Pokemon wisdom. What can
- 8:31Speaker 1: you tell us about San True? Oh man, Well, sand
- 8:35Speaker 1: True is one of the o g is part of
- 8:36Speaker 1: the first original. It evolves into a sand slash and
- 8:42Speaker 1: it's got like a bunch of needles on its back
- 8:43Speaker 1: in these big sharp clause. I don't think real penguins
- 8:46Speaker 1: do that, though they evolve at level two for a
- 8:49Speaker 1: ground Pokemon, I was more more of a digglet guy.
- 8:51Speaker 1: You guys, digglet guys around here was a definitely agreed
- 8:59Speaker 1: a come on, Pokemon, weren't there? Well if you include me, Spencer,
- 9:05Speaker 1: but some people don't. Alright, can we move on? You're
- 9:11Speaker 1: stuck in a room with a lot of Factually, I
- 9:12Speaker 1: grew up in the nineties. It's just naturally it has
- 9:15Speaker 1: nothing to do with growing up and grevations. This is
- 9:20Speaker 1: a different isn't the main one called Pokemon speak to you?
- 9:26Speaker 1: He's kind of I don't know, Seth. That was such
- 9:28Speaker 1: a grid take you'd almost think it was satirical. So
- 9:30Speaker 1: I appreciate. Now these shall be index for this game
- 9:34Speaker 1: of trivia is a three, but I'm expecting our winner
- 9:37Speaker 1: to get about eight correct answers because my wife hasn't
- 9:40Speaker 1: caught a fish since With that We're onto the game
- 9:44Speaker 1: of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look, I need to
- 9:49Speaker 1: know what I stay under wind everything I'm saying. Just
- 9:54Speaker 1: tend to win everything, suckers. Question one. The topic is cooking.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Which of these raw foods has the most calories? Is
- 10:12Speaker 1: it octopus, scallops, lobster or swordfish? Which of these raw
- 10:20Speaker 1: foods has the most calories octopus, scallops, lobster or swordfish?
- 10:30Speaker 1: Quick answer from Max rest of the room, Not so much.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Be honest, you think you got this one again? It's
- 10:39Speaker 1: an educated guess. Now. If I was wording this question,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I would say calories per ounce. It's it's per three
- 10:46Speaker 1: ounce serving. All right, there you go, because the swordfish
- 10:49Speaker 1: and damn sure have more calories than a scalop. That's
- 10:52Speaker 1: her right, three ounce serving. Did you eliminate a few, Yanna?
- 10:59Speaker 1: You know it's like out these two. No, because I
- 11:03Speaker 1: feel like it could be a real tricky answer. You know,
- 11:06Speaker 1: maybe because one of them lives in some certain environment.
- 11:09Speaker 1: It has to be super super densely packed with calories. Octopus, scallops, lobster, swordfish.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Brodie? I'm changing mind. Okay,
- 11:21Speaker 1: we'll change your mind. I think a lot of us changed.
- 11:25Speaker 1: No good reason we're changing, man, go ahead and reveal
- 11:28Speaker 1: your answers, good wisdom. Hayden Hayden saying swordfish, Seth saying scallops,
- 11:33Speaker 1: Brodie saying scallops. Marche sang lobster, Max saying swordfish, Chester
- 11:40Speaker 1: saying lobster, Janice saying scallops. The correct answer is swordfish.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I think Hayden was the only one who got got
- 11:50Speaker 1: it right. These numbers are via the US Department of
- 11:55Speaker 1: Agriculture and are based on a three ounce serving. Swordfish
- 11:59Speaker 1: has one twenty two calories, octopus has eighty two calories,
- 12:03Speaker 1: lobster has sixty five calories, and scallops have fifty nine calories.
- 12:08Speaker 1: The FDA recommends eating about ten ounces of fish or
- 12:11Speaker 1: shellfish per week. Seth, I've been getting that tingling in
- 12:15Speaker 1: my hands starting to think about mercury poison. Did you
- 12:20Speaker 1: see did you see the statistic that where it's like
- 12:24Speaker 1: it's kind of convoluted. But a report recently came out
- 12:27Speaker 1: that eating a serving of fresh water fish from like
- 12:31Speaker 1: a lot of bodies of water is the equivalent like
- 12:35Speaker 1: in p f A s. Those are like the forever
- 12:37Speaker 1: chemicals of drinking dirty water for a month. Yeah, question, Yeah, well,
- 12:47Speaker 1: you know it's my responsibility educate everybody. The topic is conservation.
- 12:52Speaker 1: American Rivers dot Org declared this the most endangered river
- 12:56Speaker 1: in America, which starts in the Rocky Mountains and ends
- 13:00Speaker 1: at the Gulf of California. American Rivers dot Org declared
- 13:06Speaker 1: this the most endangered river in America, which starts in
- 13:10Speaker 1: the Rocky Mountains and ends at the Gulf of California.
- 13:14Speaker 1: They do that every year, so like, was it a
- 13:16Speaker 1: certain years? All right? There you go when they made
- 13:21Speaker 1: this list and this river was number one. Damn, it's
- 13:28Speaker 1: got this one. I can tell you that. American Rivers
- 13:33Speaker 1: American Rivers dot Org. Seth back of your board says,
- 13:38Speaker 1: suck it, Seth. Jason Brody got this one. Chester, you
- 13:46Speaker 1: got this one? No, Okay, I know fish live in
- 13:52Speaker 1: River Spencer, but it could have been a little bit
- 13:55Speaker 1: more fishing. If a lot of all my questions, You're
- 14:01Speaker 1: not gonna love this round, but you still go watch
- 14:05Speaker 1: Montana Wally Tour, Hayden, how are we doing? Not so
- 14:08Speaker 1: good man? Okay, does everybody else have an answer? I
- 14:11Speaker 1: just tried to think of a river that flowed west.
- 14:14Speaker 1: There you go, education an answer. Come on, what's your problem? Brody?
- 14:22Speaker 1: You don't like the changing the time? Ever an answer?
- 14:29Speaker 1: By loves to take his time and he doesn't know
- 14:31Speaker 1: the answer. All right, show him. Is everybody ready? Go
- 14:37Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Hayden saying snake,
- 14:40Speaker 1: Seth saying Colorado, Brodie saying Colorado, Marge saying Sacramento, Max
- 14:46Speaker 1: saying Colombia, Chester saying Salmon, Janice saying Colorado. Yanni got it.
- 14:51Speaker 1: The correct answer is Colorado, as well as Brody and Colorado.
- 14:59Speaker 1: The color Rattle River flows through seven states and two
- 15:02Speaker 1: countries and is the sixth longest river in America. American
- 15:07Speaker 1: Rivers dot Org says its greatest threat is climate change
- 15:10Speaker 1: and outdated water management. They estimate that unless we take action,
- 15:14Speaker 1: the river's flow will be reduced by another ten to
- 15:17Speaker 1: thirty percent by the year twenty. Question three the topic
- 15:23Speaker 1: is biology. This next great question comes to us via
- 15:27Speaker 1: John Silkbeck. If you have a question you think is
- 15:29Speaker 1: right for Meat Eater Trivia, you can send it to
- 15:32Speaker 1: trivia at the meat eater dot com. Load of LOADA
- 15:36Speaker 1: is the scientific name for North America's only freshwater cod.
- 15:41Speaker 1: What is it? Load of LOADA is the scientific name
- 15:46Speaker 1: for North America's only freshwater cod. What is it? Hayden
- 15:51Speaker 1: with the quickest answer in the room. Other folks coming
- 15:55Speaker 1: up with them now except for Yanni. He's got a
- 15:57Speaker 1: blank boarder. Oh, I know it, But to load a
- 16:00Speaker 1: little humunculous is not telling me. Load of LOADA is
- 16:03Speaker 1: the scientific name from North America's only freshwater cod. Hayden's
- 16:10Speaker 1: confidence actually made gave me some confident answer. Easy. I
- 16:14Speaker 1: hope to fish that these one day. That's what's up, man?
- 16:20Speaker 1: You cod want better next time? What's that? I think
- 16:23Speaker 1: you cod do better? Don't listen too much side checking on?
- 16:29Speaker 1: Does everybody having I don't, I don't, I don't. Is
- 16:33Speaker 1: this even a cod? Fresh water? Load of? Load of?
- 16:39Speaker 1: Load of load of Come to me, come to me,
- 16:43Speaker 1: load load just right through my forehead down into the
- 16:49Speaker 1: back of my head. I like scientific names that go
- 16:52Speaker 1: back to back, same words. Is bison dice in one
- 16:55Speaker 1: of them? Is that right? Bison starts it? I feel
- 17:04Speaker 1: like I know who knows looking for moda. Let's turn
- 17:08Speaker 1: them over. Hold on, hold on, we got we got
- 17:11Speaker 1: folks coming up with answers, all right, does everybody have
- 17:14Speaker 1: an answer? Answer? It's not right though, Gout saying bourbon.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Got an answer, Max raising his hands before I could
- 17:27Speaker 1: even embarrass Chester and Janice saying bourbon. They got it
- 17:31Speaker 1: the correct answer. Bob, No, I put flounder. I got
- 17:39Speaker 1: that without the little cod information, would you have accepted?
- 17:42Speaker 1: Eel pout? Yeah, that's what. Other names for bourbon include freshwater,
- 17:47Speaker 1: lying lawyer fish, and eel pout. Indiana just had their
- 17:51Speaker 1: bourbon state record broken twice in this span of two weeks.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Prior to that, the record had stood for thirty two years.
- 17:59Speaker 1: All three of those fish came from Lake Michigan, with
- 18:01Speaker 1: the most recent record weighing eleven point four pounds. Side
- 18:06Speaker 1: note um The Canadian Angle where Jay fishes for bourbon
- 18:10Speaker 1: as some amazing underwater bourbon footage. Are they spawning? Like?
- 18:14Speaker 1: Are they right up on tight on the kind of
- 18:16Speaker 1: post spawned? But they're they're just there's a lot of them. Yeah,
- 18:22Speaker 1: just check it out. It's sweet broadcast spawning. Man. My
- 18:25Speaker 1: girlfriends give me so mad at me. Their family, Uh,
- 18:29Speaker 1: she comes from a fishy family and that's her nickname
- 18:33Speaker 1: is iow Oh no, Yeah, it's super Bad. I don't
- 18:39Speaker 1: know if that question the topic is fish camp. This
- 18:47Speaker 1: is an audio question. I'm going to play one minute
- 18:51Speaker 1: of a famous fishing song. You need to tell me
- 18:54Speaker 1: the artist play the song, Phil, we didn't name the band,
- 19:04Speaker 1: eat you to name the band or the artist. You
- 19:08Speaker 1: don't even have to play the song that you like.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Max is going to be on the board here. So
- 19:14Speaker 1: with seth and Chesters. Thanks, Thanks Bad, go ahead and
- 19:21Speaker 1: sing Chester, get in there, cool ourselves in the heat
- 19:25Speaker 1: of that baby getting ready? Who's a better singer? Hold? Hold?
- 19:32Speaker 1: Everybody trying to figure out music in the count stars
- 19:41Speaker 1: side note senior prom like walk out? What year? Uh?
- 19:47Speaker 1: Two thousand eleven? Yeah, this is why you played. I
- 19:52Speaker 1: like it. The girls hated it. You don't say they
- 19:57Speaker 1: thought it was pretty fishy? Again, you need to name
- 20:01Speaker 1: the artists of this song. Chester is not the answer.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Artist makes me think of. You cannot put Chester as
- 20:13Speaker 1: the answer. That won't be right. Don't put me Oh gosh, yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I'm just putting like a vague league country person. Does
- 20:25Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? I know it wasn't. Johnny Cash Brody,
- 20:32Speaker 1: are you gonna get this one? Okay? You're gonna with
- 20:34Speaker 1: my answer, No, Does everybody have an answer that's gonna
- 20:38Speaker 1: come up with one? Yeah, bigger country singer Brody go ahead,
- 20:43Speaker 1: and we've got Hayden saying Kenny Rogers, Seth saying nitty
- 20:48Speaker 1: Gritty Dirt band, by without an answer, probably gritty dirt band,
- 20:52Speaker 1: Marche saying, Zach Brown band, Max and Chester saying nitty
- 20:55Speaker 1: gritty dirt band, Janice saying what did that say? I'll
- 20:58Speaker 1: love it, Lile I love lyle love it. The correct
- 21:02Speaker 1: answer is nitty Gritty Dirt band. Do they have any
- 21:06Speaker 1: other hits other than that? Wonder? Other biggest hit was
- 21:10Speaker 1: just a cover of Mr. Bo Jangles, which was I
- 21:14Speaker 1: guess I think you could call that hit. The Nitty
- 21:18Speaker 1: Gritty Dirt Band released that song on their seven album
- 21:22Speaker 1: Hold On. It hit number one on the charts in
- 21:25Speaker 1: the United States and Canada, becoming the band's best selling
- 21:28Speaker 1: single of all time. The song has since been covered
- 21:31Speaker 1: by artists like John Party, Garth Brooks, and Meat Eater.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Trivia's number one fan Luke Bryan. Question five, that's a joke,
- 21:43Speaker 1: five year old song that mentions fishing one exactly, Well,
- 21:47Speaker 1: that's what that's what anytime he is like a thing
- 21:49Speaker 1: that's like deer camp or fish camp. It's something like
- 21:51Speaker 1: tangentially related. How you've caught on something something to be
- 21:57Speaker 1: said about being like a well rounded individual can bring
- 22:01Speaker 1: a lot to the table. Here I met apparently question five.
- 22:06Speaker 1: The topic is gear. This next great question comes to
- 22:10Speaker 1: is via Christian Thompson. If you have a question you
- 22:12Speaker 1: think is right for Meat Eater Trivia, you can send
- 22:15Speaker 1: it to trivia at the meat eatter dot com. This
- 22:18Speaker 1: nymph pattern, which was created in Wisconsin, shares its name
- 22:22Speaker 1: with an alcoholic drink that has ice cream in it?
- 22:25Speaker 1: What is it? This nymph pattern, which was created in Wisconsin,
- 22:32Speaker 1: shares its name with an alcoholic drink that has ice
- 22:35Speaker 1: cream in it? What is it? Chester? Why do you
- 22:38Speaker 1: know this one? Mm hmmm, because you're from Wisconsin. That's
- 22:42Speaker 1: the answer. I still don't. I don't have I'm not
- 22:45Speaker 1: on my answer, but it's the best I got. Okay.
- 22:47Speaker 1: This nymph pattern, which was created in Wisconsin, shares its
- 22:52Speaker 1: name with an alcoholic drink that has ice cream in it.
- 22:57Speaker 1: You should know this. Why would fish from Minnesota? Minnesota's
- 23:08Speaker 1: love alcohol ice cream? I don't know if I've ever
- 23:12Speaker 1: had an alcoholic drink? With ice cream? Can you know
- 23:14Speaker 1: what Brody? I don't think I know. Apparently twenty years
- 23:19Speaker 1: of fly Fish and Guy didn't really pay off. This
- 23:23Speaker 1: nymph pattern, which was created in Wisconsin, shares its name
- 23:28Speaker 1: with an alcoholic drink that has ice cream in it.
- 23:32Speaker 1: I think Chester is the only one with an answer
- 23:35Speaker 1: right now. I don't even know drink has Yeah, I'm
- 23:38Speaker 1: like doing a chicken or the egg thing. I don't
- 23:40Speaker 1: know whether to like go through nymphs categorically or go
- 23:43Speaker 1: through alcoholic drinks categorically. I think I can think of
- 23:46Speaker 1: the one list that would be shorter than the other.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Be honest, how you feeling about this? I got a
- 23:54Speaker 1: good guess. Okay, one of the few folks has come
- 23:56Speaker 1: up with an answer to be signed Chester. I think
- 23:58Speaker 1: I invented a new nip okay cocktail media trivia NIV.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I know, I know two flies with alcoholic drink names
- 24:13Speaker 1: on him. If I give you both of those kinds? No, no, no,
- 24:16Speaker 1: does everybody have an answer? Come on? This seems like
- 24:20Speaker 1: it would have been a Bent podcast topic. It would
- 24:24Speaker 1: have been. It would have changing his answer. I don't
- 24:32Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Hayden saying
- 24:35Speaker 1: what's that say? Mickey finn seth without an answer. Broady
- 24:40Speaker 1: sang mud slide, Marsh sang rupier float. I like that,
- 24:46Speaker 1: Max saying three dollar dip. Chester, you're saying pink squirrel.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Janice saying mud slide. Chester, got it. It's the pink squirrel.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Nice work. Chester. The ingredients for a pink squirrel cocktail
- 25:01Speaker 1: are Creme de cacao, Creme de noyu, and ice cream.
- 25:05Speaker 1: The ingredients for a pink squirrel nymph are a brass bead,
- 25:09Speaker 1: strands of pearl, crystal flash, red wire, squirrel dubbing, and
- 25:14Speaker 1: pink dubbing. It's considered the most popular fly pattern in
- 25:17Speaker 1: the Driftless area. Yeah. That's the only reason I put
- 25:23Speaker 1: that answer down was I fished in the Driftless area
- 25:26Speaker 1: a lot. You'd go into a fly shop, You'd be like,
- 25:30Speaker 1: you know what, you know, what's some good stuff you
- 25:33Speaker 1: guys have that's been working. They'd all be like, oh,
- 25:35Speaker 1: you gotta get some pink squirrels. You know, not do
- 25:38Speaker 1: our two former fishing guys, have you ever used or
- 25:40Speaker 1: heard of it? I've heard now, I've heard of it.
- 25:43Speaker 1: But what Chester didn't know back then as they just
- 25:46Speaker 1: had a shipload of those in inventor, and yeah, we
- 25:50Speaker 1: can get rid of it, right. Yeah, but I would
- 25:53Speaker 1: say that just as simple, like they're similar to like
- 25:57Speaker 1: a beaded hairs here. I would say hair's here with
- 26:02Speaker 1: some you know, ribbing on it works just as well.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Is it like a scud pattern? No? Yeah, kind of
- 26:09Speaker 1: like more of a catas type thing. But it's got
- 26:12Speaker 1: that pink on it, so it's just just like using
- 26:15Speaker 1: a pink square. Me warmy, Phil. We are halfway through
- 26:19Speaker 1: our game of trivia. Give us a scoreboard, man, all right.
- 26:23Speaker 1: We've got Maggie with zero points, um Max and Janice
- 26:29Speaker 1: and Hayden oh wow, and Brody I'll have two points apiece.
- 26:32Speaker 1: And tied for first place with three points are Chester
- 26:35Speaker 1: and Seth. A single question about what did you guys
- 26:40Speaker 1: know that this is going to be a fishing episode? Yeah,
- 26:43Speaker 1: but that's why how would I have lived the inside
- 26:46Speaker 1: track YouTube on fishing on YouTube for Softball Wisconsin flu.
- 26:54Speaker 1: I just think I was going to have to get
- 26:56Speaker 1: a nitty gritty dirt band question. They've been pounding listening
- 27:01Speaker 1: to the Nitty Grid last night and drank pink squirrels
- 27:10Speaker 1: endangered rivers and whatnot? Question six, the topic is cooking.
- 27:26Speaker 1: What type of meat is in a California sushi roll?
- 27:32Speaker 1: What type of meat is in a California sushi roll?
- 27:38Speaker 1: Hayden with the quickest answer, and Marge Chester. Now I'm
- 27:42Speaker 1: second guessing myself. Janes and Brody are two best folks
- 27:48Speaker 1: in the fishing category. Are behind in the game and
- 27:51Speaker 1: if yet to come up with an answer, that's because
- 27:54Speaker 1: none of these questions have anything to do with fishing.
- 27:57Speaker 1: What type of meat is in a California a sushi roll?
- 28:04Speaker 1: A lot of thinking. This is Brodie's favorite game of trivia,
- 28:08Speaker 1: and everyone's just quiet. I love it. No banter with
- 28:13Speaker 1: a knife. Does everybody have an answer? I got two
- 28:17Speaker 1: answers and I just scratched one out. Everybody ready, go
- 28:22Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Hayden saying, what's
- 28:25Speaker 1: that say? Imitation but sometimes real crab, Seth saying shrimp,
- 28:30Speaker 1: Brodie sang salmon, Marge saying imitation, crab, Max saying tuna,
- 28:36Speaker 1: Chester saying crab, Janice saying pollock. The correct answer is
- 28:41Speaker 1: crab or imitation, crab or pollock. In a previous cap
- 28:45Speaker 1: of trivia, we learned that pollock is the most common
- 28:48Speaker 1: fish used in imitation crab. The California role is an
- 28:56Speaker 1: invitation crab. Me when in a previous game that was
- 29:00Speaker 1: an answer that we had. The California Roll is an
- 29:03Speaker 1: inside out sushi roll that's usually made of sushi, rice, cucumber, avocado,
- 29:08Speaker 1: and crab. It was invented in the nineteen sixties by
- 29:12Speaker 1: Iro Mashita in the Little Tokyo area of Los Angeles.
- 29:17Speaker 1: It's now considered one of the most popular sushi roles
- 29:20Speaker 1: in America. Do you know he made that specifically to
- 29:23Speaker 1: cater to Western tastes? Assume so yeah, because they leave
- 29:27Speaker 1: out the seaweed. Most times use imitation crab meat, which
- 29:31Speaker 1: Americans love. Over the question seven, the topic is conservation
- 29:41Speaker 1: pye write, which is a mineral that drains from mines
- 29:44Speaker 1: and turns waterways. Orange is better known by this nickname
- 29:50Speaker 1: Get any. Topic is conservation pyrite, which is a mineral
- 29:54Speaker 1: that drains from mines and turns waterways. Orange is better
- 29:59Speaker 1: known by this nickname. Come on a p A. Boys
- 30:02Speaker 1: better know this one. Oh yeah, we grew up with
- 30:04Speaker 1: this ship. A lot of quick answers in the room.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Nothing from me honest, Yet I think Cheddar is gonna win. Man.
- 30:09Speaker 1: I think we just talked about this set and this well,
- 30:16Speaker 1: don't give him any hints, you know. I don't think
- 30:18Speaker 1: I can remember I wrote down something else, but I
- 30:21Speaker 1: think it might be something different. Now, this is the
- 30:24Speaker 1: one time that's studying for trivia has actually helped me.
- 30:27Speaker 1: How did you study this? What I did was I
- 30:30Speaker 1: went online. That's fathetic that you study for this thing.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I don't care what you think. I'm going to get
- 30:35Speaker 1: this answer right. You might not will I looked up
- 30:41Speaker 1: a bunch of outdoor trivia questions on the internet, and
- 30:43Speaker 1: there was like a list of like five hundred of them.
- 30:46Speaker 1: What would tell me the question? Hi? Right? Which is
- 30:48Speaker 1: a mineral that drains from mines and turns waterways. Orange
- 30:53Speaker 1: is better known by this nickname. I really hope him
- 30:57Speaker 1: right now. A lot of nice and March not so much.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I just wrote down when we always called it growing up,
- 31:06Speaker 1: which hopefully is the yanna you're gonna come up with anything,
- 31:15Speaker 1: Oh Chester, you might lose the lead. Here is everybody
- 31:19Speaker 1: ready go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Hayden,
- 31:24Speaker 1: uh and Brody saying fool's Gold said saying acid mind drainage,
- 31:30Speaker 1: Marge without an answer, Max saying copper chest. You're saying
- 31:34Speaker 1: fool's gold, Janice saying orange slush. The correct answer is
- 31:39Speaker 1: fool's gold. Got it wrong. You got it wrong. When
- 31:44Speaker 1: exposed to water and oxygen, pyrite can react to form
- 31:47Speaker 1: sulfuric acid. This contaminates drinking water, disrupts reproduction of aquatic
- 31:52Speaker 1: plants and animals, and corrodes infrastructure. Trot Unlimited has a
- 31:56Speaker 1: mind reclamation program that tries to address this problem across
- 32:00Speaker 1: the country. And when I was researching this topic, you
- 32:02Speaker 1: guys are right, it's all over in Pennsylvania as well
- 32:05Speaker 1: as the Rocky Mountains. Do I remember growing up swimming
- 32:08Speaker 1: in South Squohanna River, You come out, my swim trunks
- 32:10Speaker 1: will be ready. Um. But they've since done a lot
- 32:14Speaker 1: of work to clean that up and it's actually good fishure.
- 32:16Speaker 1: You know, yeah, the same. We're you honest. And I
- 32:18Speaker 1: used to guide the Eagle River, got hit real hard
- 32:20Speaker 1: by that, and it's it's doing really well now. Those
- 32:23Speaker 1: cleanups work. They're expensive though. Question eight, the topic is biology.
- 32:27Speaker 1: That's next. Great question comes to us via Annie mc turner.
- 32:31Speaker 1: If you have a question you think is right for
- 32:33Speaker 1: meat eat Trivia, you can send it to trivia at
- 32:35Speaker 1: the meat eator dot com. On a catfish, what is
- 32:39Speaker 1: the name of the fin that's located between the dorsal
- 32:43Speaker 1: fin and caddle fin? On a catfish? What is the
- 32:49Speaker 1: name of the fin that's located between the dorsal fin
- 32:53Speaker 1: and caudal fin. A couple of quick answers in the
- 32:58Speaker 1: room chest your our guy in the lead, though, has
- 33:01Speaker 1: yet to come up with anything this question eight. On
- 33:06Speaker 1: a catfish? What is the name of the fin that's
- 33:09Speaker 1: located between the dorsal fin and coddle fin? Seth, you
- 33:12Speaker 1: got this one right? I'm gonna be kicking. I'm gonna
- 33:15Speaker 1: be kicking myself. I think I can't think of I
- 33:20Speaker 1: can picture it, I just don't know the name. Can you?
- 33:22Speaker 1: Can you say that again? On a catfish? What is
- 33:25Speaker 1: the name of the fin that's located between the dorsal
- 33:29Speaker 1: fin and coddle fin. Not a very confident room, bro,
- 33:37Speaker 1: Do you think you're gonna get this one? Maybe? I
- 33:44Speaker 1: just don't know if they if catfish have this type
- 33:46Speaker 1: of cut or not. But yeah, I just know I
- 33:50Speaker 1: know what you're thinking and I'm wondering that exact same thing.
- 33:53Speaker 1: I'm also wondering, like about forget it. Does everybody have
- 33:57Speaker 1: no I'm going to write the same thing that a
- 33:59Speaker 1: but Brody road down. Jester, you're gonna keep the lead
- 34:04Speaker 1: on this one or not? No, I don't have an answer,
- 34:06Speaker 1: and I'm not gonna probably come up with one. Is
- 34:08Speaker 1: everybody ready? Ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 34:12Speaker 1: have Hayden saying adipose, Seth saying adipose, Brody saying adipose,
- 34:17Speaker 1: Marge sang out, oppose, Max saying with an answer, Jane
- 34:28Speaker 1: saying backfin. The correct answer is at oppose fall. And
- 34:33Speaker 1: you guys were on the right track because other fish
- 34:36Speaker 1: with an adipose fin include salmon and trout. That got
- 34:40Speaker 1: this name because biologists originally thought the finn had ad
- 34:44Speaker 1: opposed tissue in it, which is a type of fat
- 34:47Speaker 1: that has since been disproven and now our best guests
- 34:50Speaker 1: is that it acts as a flow sensor for fish
- 34:53Speaker 1: to better maneuver turbulent waters. You know, they clipped those
- 34:57Speaker 1: things off popular for hatchery. If I would have said trout,
- 35:01Speaker 1: what have you gotten? Thought that would have been the
- 35:05Speaker 1: catfish threw it threw me off. I kept thinking about
- 35:09Speaker 1: like the what is the anal fin there where you
- 35:12Speaker 1: can count the rays to distinguish like a blue cat
- 35:14Speaker 1: from white cat. That's questions left. Give us a scoreboard update.
- 35:23Speaker 1: I think it just got interesting. Yeah I did um. Technically,
- 35:28Speaker 1: everyone except for Maggie story Maggie is still in the game.
- 35:33Speaker 1: We've got Max and Janice with three points, Seth and
- 35:37Speaker 1: Brody with four, and Hayden and Chester with five. Hayden
- 35:42Speaker 1: and Chester, Oh, Chester, you could be running away with
- 35:46Speaker 1: it right now. I don't know why down but any
- 35:53Speaker 1: question nine? The topic is fishing. What is the deepest
- 35:59Speaker 1: great lake? What is the deepest great lake? This room
- 36:06Speaker 1: is full of folks who grew up in a great
- 36:08Speaker 1: lake state? Max, would you grow up North Dakota, Okay?
- 36:13Speaker 1: And not you? Everyone everyone else grew up in a
- 36:17Speaker 1: great lake state? What is the deepest great lake? Damn it? Mega,
- 36:26Speaker 1: guess se do you know the great lakes? Seth, you
- 36:31Speaker 1: got a chance. I know at least one of them.
- 36:35Speaker 1: You should have had his name. All five. Looking for
- 36:38Speaker 1: the deepest I can only think three, Hayd And how
- 36:42Speaker 1: you feel about this? Well, I'm doing that thing where
- 36:47Speaker 1: I'm like kind of trying to play into how much
- 36:49Speaker 1: I think you're trying to trick us. Um, But I
- 36:52Speaker 1: think you got one in five shot. Chester. Um, I'm
- 36:56Speaker 1: kind of in the same boat as Hayden. Well, I
- 37:00Speaker 1: think I got a I think I've had a little
- 37:04Speaker 1: better shot than one in five. Everybody have an answer
- 37:07Speaker 1: looking for the deepest great like one in three shot Brodie,
- 37:12Speaker 1: I can't tell if you're frustrated at this game, frustrated
- 37:15Speaker 1: at this question, frustrated yourself? Yeah, it most of myself
- 37:20Speaker 1: right now, because I can actually only think of four
- 37:22Speaker 1: of the five grades, which is just do we get
- 37:27Speaker 1: a bonus point if we can name them all? No,
- 37:29Speaker 1: you won't get it wrong if you put more than great.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Lake is everybody ready, I'm crossing it. Go ahead and
- 37:38Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Hayden saying Superior, Said saying Superior,
- 37:43Speaker 1: Brodie saying here on Superiors, the one I couldn't remember,
- 37:47Speaker 1: Mark Superior, Max, and Chester and Janice saying Superior. They
- 37:53Speaker 1: got it. The correct answer is Lake Superior. The deepest
- 37:58Speaker 1: part Lake Superior year is about forty miles north of Munising, Michigan,
- 38:04Speaker 1: and is one thousand three hundred thirty three ft deep.
- 38:07Speaker 1: The deepest part of Lake Michigan is nine hundred twenty
- 38:10Speaker 1: five feet, The deepest part of Lake Ontario is eight
- 38:13Speaker 1: hundred four feet, the deepest part of Lake Huron is
- 38:17Speaker 1: seven hundred forty eight feet, and the deepest part of
- 38:20Speaker 1: Lake Erie is two hundred ten ft fhil. We have
- 38:24Speaker 1: one question left. Give us a scoreboard update. It's down
- 38:27Speaker 1: to three players. We have seven with five points and
- 38:31Speaker 1: tied for first place are Hayden, Samic and Chester with six.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Question ten the topic is gear and this is our
- 38:40Speaker 1: on X listener Question of the Week, which was won
- 38:42Speaker 1: by Stephen Tyler for sending this great question. Stephen is
- 38:45Speaker 1: going to get a one year premium subscription to on X.
- 38:49Speaker 1: If you want a chance to win our listener question
- 38:51Speaker 1: of the Week, then send it to Trivia at the
- 38:53Speaker 1: meat eater dot com. This fishing magazine, which has a
- 38:57Speaker 1: note on the cover that says seven fourteen dollars for
- 39:01Speaker 1: bait Fisherman is named after a large mayfly. What is
- 39:06Speaker 1: it now? You could have done those questions. This fishing
- 39:12Speaker 1: magazine Breaker, which has a note on the cover that
- 39:15Speaker 1: says seven bucks fourteen dollars for bait Fisherman is named
- 39:20Speaker 1: after a large may fly. I remember when that magazine
- 39:23Speaker 1: was cool. What is it? It's not cool anymore. I
- 39:25Speaker 1: don't know. Might be Chester. You think you got this one, Hayden,
- 39:33Speaker 1: you got this one? Is everybody ready? Chester? Am I right?
- 39:39Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Hayden and
- 39:43Speaker 1: Seth Brodie. Your answers upset down, Hayden, Seth Brodie sang
- 39:47Speaker 1: the drake, Mart sang salmon fly, Max saying green drake,
- 39:52Speaker 1: Chester saying drake, Janice saying drake. The correct answer is
- 39:56Speaker 1: the drake that none of them have the They don't
- 39:59Speaker 1: get it right. I'm not gonna take green Drake. That
- 40:05Speaker 1: sounds like a different magazine for water fowlers. Tom found
- 40:12Speaker 1: Jackson Whole Wyoming in. He said he created the publication
- 40:17Speaker 1: because every magazine that covered fly fishing was catered to
- 40:21Speaker 1: those who hired gods. His goal was to make a
- 40:23Speaker 1: magazine for guides and those who already knew how to fish.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Phil We're going to a tiebreaker. Play the drops last
- 40:37Speaker 1: that maga sense it all first, your last, you can
- 40:40Speaker 1: be second, you can be third, four hell five going
- 40:46Speaker 1: to a tiebreaker. We have Chester and Hayden. The tiebreaking
- 40:50Speaker 1: topic is fishing. Anybody want to figure who's gonna yeah,
- 40:57Speaker 1: Calcutta cordishing thing. According to a teen survey by the
- 41:03Speaker 1: US Fish and Wildlife Service, what percentage of hunters had
- 41:07Speaker 1: also fished within the last year. According to a sixteen
- 41:15Speaker 1: survey by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, what percentage
- 41:20Speaker 1: of hunters had also fished within the last year? Down
- 41:26Speaker 1: to Chester and Hayden. This is making for an exciting fish.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Boy's got to go to a decimal point. Yes, go
- 41:33Speaker 1: to a decimal point for your answer. Thank you, Brodie.
- 41:36Speaker 1: It's always more fun when it's not one of the
- 41:39Speaker 1: old heads like Janice or Brody taking a victory. It's
- 41:43Speaker 1: not fun for us. Chester. How are you feeling about this?
- 41:49Speaker 1: You look like you're doing some math over there. Tell
- 41:50Speaker 1: us about that math? Well, I don't know if I
- 41:53Speaker 1: want to Okay, all right, just guessing. Hang on, just
- 41:58Speaker 1: give me, give me just a little bit, okay, Chester.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Everyone else can come up with an answer, but the
- 42:02Speaker 1: only ones that matter are Chester and Hayden. Chester, Chester,
- 42:09Speaker 1: If I get it right, don't know. For the rest
- 42:11Speaker 1: of the day. Max has something important to say. What Max,
- 42:15Speaker 1: you got some advice for him. Chester, let men know
- 42:19Speaker 1: when you're ready. Okay, thank you, I'm ready. Thank you again.
- 42:25Speaker 1: It's according to a twenty six survey what percentage of
- 42:27Speaker 1: hunters had also fished within the last year. You boys ready,
- 42:32Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. Uh. The rest of
- 42:35Speaker 1: the room. We have March saying was that same margot two,
- 42:40Speaker 1: Max saying thirty three point three, be honest saying seventy five,
- 42:44Speaker 1: seth saying sixty four point seven, Brodie saying seventy nine
- 42:48Speaker 1: point three, and our two competitors left in the game
- 42:51Speaker 1: we have hidden saying sixty eight point five, Chester saying
- 42:56Speaker 1: fifty one. One of you is within half of a
- 43:01Speaker 1: percentage point of the correct answer. The correct answer, it's
- 43:07Speaker 1: Sixty's making Hayden our winner. It wasn't a half percential
- 43:12Speaker 1: points one point five percentage points. Hey man, this damn
- 43:16Speaker 1: you're nailing it on the well done. What happens next
- 43:21Speaker 1: is Hayden gets to choose where our five dollar donation
- 43:24Speaker 1: from meat Eator goes. So what's it gonna be? Maybe
- 43:26Speaker 1: you got something fishy in mind over there? Keep it real, um,
- 43:33Speaker 1: I would like to uh yeah, okay. American rivers. I'd
- 43:38Speaker 1: like to donate to American Roots. And what do you
- 43:41Speaker 1: like about them? Hayden that Brody told me to what
- 43:46Speaker 1: do you like about American rivers? They're they're a very
- 43:49Speaker 1: good conservation or that like they're watching dogs for pollution
- 43:54Speaker 1: and rivers. They this will do a bunch of great work.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Every year they list the ten most endangered verse from
- 44:00Speaker 1: the country. Yeah, I was like, like, I've been thinking
- 44:04Speaker 1: about donating to these guys, like at some point anyway,
- 44:07Speaker 1: So yeah, I was gonna do Sheep Week or Wild
