- 1:11Speaker 1: I mean, the dead air is not good. That's what
- 1:15Speaker 1: we've been told. So, We're going to hear from the
- 1:18Speaker 1: great Steve Sarkeesian. We've got a high school report. We're
- 1:21Speaker 1: going to hear from Arkansas coach John Calipari after his
- 1:25Speaker 1: team played Gonzaga in an exhibition game. In the second hour,
- 1:30Speaker 1: we're going to be joined by filmmaker Austin Sayre. His
- 1:34Speaker 1: film is called The Man in the Big Hat. It's
- 1:37Speaker 1: a documentary on Texas singer-songwriter Stephen Frumholtz. If you follow
- 1:45Speaker 1: Texas music... You should know who he is. I will
- 1:50Speaker 1: give a few of you a pass if you don't.
- 1:53Speaker 1: You know some of his songs. We will visit with
- 1:56Speaker 1: Austin Sayre. And Lizzie is here, pinch-hitting for Mallory with
- 2:02Speaker 1: all of the entertainment news coming up. So that's what's
- 2:08Speaker 1: ahead on the show. Bad news for Mississippi State, and frankly,
- 2:13Speaker 1: all college football fans Mississippi State quarterback Camario Taylor will
- 2:19Speaker 1: have to have surgery on his injured toe and miss
- 2:23Speaker 1: the rest of the season Jeff Levy saying nobody wants
- 2:28Speaker 1: to be on that field more than Camario I know
- 2:30Speaker 1: how much this team means to him I know how
- 2:33Speaker 1: much he means to the team We'll be right there
- 2:36Speaker 1: with him throughout his recovery. He's the ultimate teammate and competitor.
- 2:41Speaker 1: You see it in the work he's put in and
- 2:43Speaker 1: the way our players and coaches believe in him the
- 2:46Speaker 1: way they do. He injured the toe against Missouri September 26th.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Tried to play against both Alabama and Oklahoma. He clearly
- 2:57Speaker 1: wasn't 100%. Missed the LSU game altogether. Mississippi State plays
- 3:05Speaker 1: in Austin against Texas on Saturday night. Oregon quarterback Dante
- 3:13Speaker 1: Moore is not expected to return, according to Ducks head
- 3:18Speaker 1: coach Dan Lanning. It's not been a great year for
- 3:22Speaker 1: the Ducks, who are a national title favorite.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I picked them. They are four and three.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Moore was knocked out on a cheap shot by USC
- 3:38Speaker 1: earlier in the year. Hasn't played since. Florida State President
- 3:43Speaker 1: Richard McCullough issued a statement today acknowledging the fans' frustration
- 3:50Speaker 1: and saying the university is, quote, methodically working on a plan.
- 3:56Speaker 1: In a letter, he addressed the fans base saying the
- 3:59Speaker 1: university has been evaluating every aspect of the athletics organization
- 4:05Speaker 1: since the firing of athletic director Michael Alford last month.
- 4:11Speaker 1: He said that work is nearing completion and the search
- 4:15Speaker 1: for a new AD will begin soon. He did not
- 4:19Speaker 1: mention head coach Mike Norvell by name.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Fans have become.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Extremely upset about the Florida State direction. They are 3-4
- 4:31Speaker 1: heading into a game against Clemson Saturday. McCullough said Florida
- 4:38Speaker 1: State should compete for championships.
- 4:41Speaker 3: He noted that.
- 4:43Speaker 1: It's a consequential moment for the program. We're not asking
- 4:49Speaker 1: you to ignore results. The letter said we are committed
- 4:52Speaker 1: to changing them. And we're not asking you to believe
- 4:56Speaker 1: everything is fine. We know it isn't. We're fully committed
- 5:01Speaker 1: to building lasting success at Florida State. The LSU versus
- 5:09Speaker 1: SEC court battle isn't over. Ross Dellinger is reporting that
- 5:15Speaker 1: a judge in the federal lawsuit against LSU has set
- 5:19Speaker 1: a hearing date on the latest motion scheduled for November
- 5:24Speaker 1: 18th in Birmingham. College football tonight. Delaware at Western Kentucky.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And Sam Houston against Missouri State. Remember when we said
- 5:40Speaker 1: like a month ago that there would be football every
- 5:44Speaker 1: day of the week for two solid months? Including NFL,
- 5:49Speaker 1: which doesn't count, but a lot of college football. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Um.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Godfather 2. Tuesday. Thursday.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Those of you who know, if you know, you know.
- 6:08Speaker 1: The World Series is still going on. Can you believe that?
- 6:12Speaker 1: Nobody knows that, but it is. And the Milwaukee Brewers
- 6:16Speaker 1: are one win away from a sweep. I said this
- 6:21Speaker 1: was going to be a scintillating World Series. I said
- 6:25Speaker 1: there were going to be close games. I said it
- 6:27Speaker 1: was going to go seven games. I said these teams
- 6:30Speaker 1: were evenly matched, and I said Oregon would win the
- 6:34Speaker 1: national championship in football. The Brewers won last night 10-1,
- 6:41Speaker 1: but it wasn't that close. Tonight in Tampa, Rays-Brewers, and
- 6:47Speaker 1: I got to tell you, Matt, big shout out to
- 6:51Speaker 1: the Milwaukee fans. Now, Tampa doesn't have a lot of
- 6:54Speaker 1: fans anyway.
- 6:56Speaker 3: But, man, they took over the trop.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And I suspect with Milwaukee one game away from winning,
- 7:03Speaker 1: it will be even louder tonight with Milwaukee fans. Houston
- 7:09Speaker 1: may be hosting another Final Four. The NCAA listing the
- 7:15Speaker 1: finalist cities to host between 2032 and 2036.
- 7:19Speaker 6: Good gosh.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I doubt if I'll be here. But here are the
- 7:26Speaker 1: cities for the five games in alphabetical order. Denver, Houston, Indianapolis,
- 7:38Speaker 1: Kansas City, Las Vegas, Nashville, New Orleans. Now, this is
- 7:46Speaker 1: interesting because Denver has an outdoor stadium. Football, I'm talking about, right?
- 7:56Speaker 1: Kansas City, are they building a dome? They are building
- 8:00Speaker 1: a dome stadium? I guess it'll be done by then
- 8:02Speaker 1: for sure. Las Vegas, Nashville, are they.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Building a new stadium?
- 8:11Speaker 7: That stadium's not that old.
- 8:15Speaker 1: You know, they're getting rid of the American Airlines Center because, quote,
- 8:20Speaker 1: it's too old. They're building a new hockey arena, separate
- 8:26Speaker 1: basketball arena in Dallas, supposedly.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Where's all this money coming from?
- 8:33Speaker 5: Us?
- 8:36Speaker 3: The owners aren't spending it. You're doing it.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Well, when I say you, the collective you, I don't
- 8:43Speaker 1: think we're getting a dome stadium here, basketball arena in
- 8:47Speaker 1: College Station. We do need a new basketball arena. I
- 8:52Speaker 1: think I'm hopeful that if Bucky continues to win, a
- 9:01Speaker 1: new arena will be on the table. And, by the way,
- 9:05Speaker 1: New Orleans is on the list. So, those are the
- 9:11Speaker 1: cities on the list to host Final Fours between 2032
- 9:14Speaker 1: and 2036.
- 9:14Speaker 3: A & M guard P.J. Haggerty, the.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Scoring leader in the NCAA a year ago has been
- 9:24Speaker 1: announced as a watch list finalist for the Jerry West
- 9:29Speaker 1: Shooting Guard of the Year. Denzel Aberdeen at Florida via
- 9:35Speaker 1: Kentucky and Austin Goosby at Texas. And I don't know
- 9:40Speaker 1: where he came from. And Jeremiah Wilkinson from Arkansas. Those
- 9:48Speaker 1: are the SEC finalists among the top 20. Matt Abel,
- 9:55Speaker 1: he's like 59 years old from North Carolina. good gosh
- 10:03Speaker 1: I'm trying to see if we Caleb Holt's been around
- 10:08Speaker 1: Arizona Braylon Mullins at UConn yeah Seth Trimble Louisville where'd
- 10:18Speaker 1: Austin Goosby come from Stan.
- 10:21Speaker 7: He was born in Dallas, and he's from the Longhorns.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Oh, he is? Is he a freshman?
- 10:27Speaker 8: Yes.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Okay, I guess he's a big recruit then? He's a guard, right? Okay.
- 10:34Speaker 7: Small forward.
- 10:35Speaker 6: Small forward.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Well, why is he on the Jerry West shoot? Well,
- 10:39Speaker 1: I guess if you shoot, you don't have to be
- 10:41Speaker 1: a guard. Former North Carolina basketball coach Hubert Davis... is
- 10:47Speaker 1: joining TNT as a regular studio and game analyst for
- 10:51Speaker 1: its basketball and studio coverage.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Davis will make his debut.
- 10:56Speaker 1: November 5th as part of the network's Big East Big
- 11:00Speaker 1: 12 triple header. Man, I got to tell you, I'm
- 11:05Speaker 1: still not happy that the SEC did away with the
- 11:08Speaker 1: Big 12 challenge and went to the ACC challenge. I just,
- 11:14Speaker 1: I don't know why they did it. Um, Davis was
- 11:18Speaker 1: with ESPN seven years before becoming assistant to Roy Williams
- 11:22Speaker 1: and then the head coach.
- 11:24Speaker 3: He was fired at the end of last year. He
- 11:28Speaker 3: went to the Final Four.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Went to the championship game, went to three straight NCAA
- 11:36Speaker 1: tournament appearances, Sweet 16. He was the number one seed
- 11:42Speaker 1: in 2024. I thought Hubert Davis was a pretty good coach,
- 11:46Speaker 1: but It's North Carolina. You can't let the Dukies beat you,
- 11:50Speaker 1: whatever you do. So there you go. So we got
- 11:55Speaker 1: that going on. We're going to take a break. We're
- 11:59Speaker 1: going to come back, and we are going to give
- 12:03Speaker 1: away a prize for our week eight Fridays, fearless.
- 12:07Speaker 3: All right?
- 12:08Speaker 1: So stay with us. This portion of the show is
- 12:10Speaker 1: brought to you by Chad Jones Law.
- 12:13Speaker 9: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt. And so
- 12:16Speaker 9: do injuries from car wrecks. But you didn't sign up
- 12:18Speaker 9: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 12:20Speaker 9: paying attention. It was their fault. And now you're left
- 12:23Speaker 9: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a
- 12:25Speaker 9: doctor and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help.
- 12:28Speaker 9: We've been helping our neighbors for more than two decades.

- 13:17Speaker 1: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Week 8 winner.
- 13:28Speaker 1: On the Polaris Fund Center phone line, is this Jim?
- 13:33Speaker 11: Yes, this is.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Is this Jim Osborne?
- 13:35Speaker 12: This is me speaking.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Jim, how in the world did you get 9 out
- 13:41Speaker 1: of 10 this last week?
- 13:43Speaker 12: Just clean living.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Maybe that's my problem then. Holy smokes, I got killed
- 13:52Speaker 1: this week.
- 13:53Speaker 12: Yeah, I don't know how I did that. Like I said,
- 13:57Speaker 12: I'm going to give it clean living and go with that.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Do you play every week?
- 14:03Speaker 12: I try to. I think I've missed once.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Okay.
- 14:09Speaker 1: It's hard to miss a week and get your name
- 14:11Speaker 1: on the cup. But, hey, if you're winning 9 out
- 14:14Speaker 1: of 10 every week.
- 14:14Speaker 3: You can do it.
- 14:16Speaker 12: Yeah, that would be icing on the cake, I guess.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I mean, Army killed me with a narrow win over Tulsa.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I don't think I've picked the Texans and Cowboys games
- 14:29Speaker 1: right this season. What in the world were you doing
- 14:33Speaker 1: picking the Cowboys last night?
- 14:35Speaker 3: That's what I want to know.
- 14:37Speaker 12: You know, I came down to College Station from Fort
- 14:40Speaker 12: Worth trying to get away from the Cowboys. You know,
- 14:45Speaker 12: pick them.
- 14:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh. I just, I don't know. Well, I'll
- 14:52Speaker 3: tell you what I have, Jim, for you.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I have two tickets to next week's MSC Opus Intimate
- 14:59Speaker 1: Gathering Series, Churchill versus Roosevelt.
- 15:03Speaker 6: Okay.
- 15:04Speaker 1: And the same guy that was here last year doing Churchill,
- 15:08Speaker 1: the same actor who wrote this play, is doing the
- 15:13Speaker 1: Churchill part. But we're also going to have Roosevelt, their
- 15:16Speaker 1: famous Christmas meeting that may have prevented all of us
- 15:20Speaker 1: from still speaking German.
- 15:22Speaker 6: That'll be awesome.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you're going to love this. I'm going
- 15:27Speaker 3: to put you on hold.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Jim, thank you very much for playing, and I hope
- 15:32Speaker 1: you enjoy the show next week.
- 15:34Speaker 12: Thank you so much.
- 15:35Speaker 3: I appreciate it. I look forward to it. Yes, sir.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Jim Osborne is the winner and two tickets to MSC
- 15:42Speaker 1: Opus Churchill versus Roosevelt. So congratulations to him. And, yeah,
- 15:48Speaker 1: play the music again because I hadn't told people about
- 15:51Speaker 1: week nine. You have until 5 o'clock Friday to get
- 15:56Speaker 1: your picks in. Our tiebreaker game is normally in Jacksonville,
- 16:01Speaker 1: but they're redoing the stadium. So they're in Atlanta at
- 16:05Speaker 1: Mercedes-Benz Stadium with the world's largest cocktail party. We're not
- 16:10Speaker 1: supposed to say that anymore. Georgia and Florida. That's the
- 16:15Speaker 1: tiebreaker game. Rudder, Waco, College Station versus Glenn. Wisconsin, Iowa. Arizona,
- 16:25Speaker 1: Texas Tech. Northwestern, Oregon. Clemson, Florida State. South Carolina, Oklahoma. Utah, Cincinnati.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I don't know, but these games seem hard to me.
- 16:41Speaker 1: And the Cardinals and the Cowboys. Those are the games
- 16:47Speaker 1: we're picking this week. Go online at chiphower.com to the
- 16:52Speaker 1: contest page. Maybe you can win valuable stuff like Jim
- 16:57Speaker 1: just did. Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest, a division of
- 17:01Speaker 1: Sports Talk, America's Most Loved Football Pick'em Contest, is brought
- 17:07Speaker 1: to you by Chad Jones Law and Zwernemann Flooring.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Okay, I just mentioned that... Mississippi.
- 17:18Speaker 1: State quarterback Camario Taylor is out for the rest of
- 17:22Speaker 1: the year.
- 17:23Speaker 3: He's having surgery on his foot.
- 17:25Speaker 1: The Bulldogs come to Austin on Halloween night to take
- 17:31Speaker 1: on the Longhorns.
- 17:33Speaker 3: I think I saw there.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Is it 21?
- 17:35Speaker 3: Would you look at that?
- 17:36Speaker 1: That just doesn't seem possible to me. Has anybody watched
- 17:40Speaker 1: Texas that's setting these lines? I mean, seriously.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Seriously.
- 17:46Speaker 7: It opened at 18.5. It's now 20.5.
- 17:49Speaker 5: Okay.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Maybe that's from the injury, the bump from the injury
- 17:53Speaker 1: that's out. But seriously, can they win a game by 20?
- 17:57Speaker 1: They can win the first half by 20.
- 18:02Speaker 3: I mean, they've proven that.
- 18:04Speaker 1: They can win the first half by 20.
- 18:08Speaker 13: I don't know.
- 18:09Speaker 3: This is why I don't bet sports, people. All right.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Here's Steve Sarkeesian.
- 18:14Speaker 7: Just looking back at the ball game, I think first
- 18:17Speaker 7: of all, a shout-out to our crowd. 104,306 Saturday, fourth
- 18:23Speaker 7: largest crowd in DKR history. So I think it speaks
- 18:25Speaker 7: to volumes of just the support of our fans, what
- 18:28Speaker 7: they've done. I think we've had four of the top
- 18:31Speaker 7: seven crowds all time at DKR this season alone. So
- 18:36Speaker 7: love the support, love Longhorn Nation, all that they're doing
- 18:38Speaker 7: for us. I think a couple of notes that sometimes–
- 18:42Speaker 7: I don't even know of, and John does a great
- 18:43Speaker 7: job of bringing to my attention, that's four straight top
- 18:47Speaker 7: ten teams we've beaten at DKR now over the last
- 18:49Speaker 7: two seasons. So I think our guys' ability to show
- 18:54Speaker 7: up against those really good teams that come in here,
- 18:56Speaker 7: obviously 24-2 in our last 26 at home, But a
- 18:59Speaker 7: couple other things I think of note, I said this
- 19:01Speaker 7: after the game, that's 17 top 25 wins since 2023,
- 19:05Speaker 7: which is more than any other school in the country.
- 19:08Speaker 7: And that's seven top 10 wins since 2024, which is
- 19:12Speaker 7: more than any other team in the country. And that's
- 19:14Speaker 7: our third top 15 win this season, which is more
- 19:17Speaker 7: than any other school in the country. Only team to
- 19:20Speaker 7: win three, beat three top 15 ranked teams so far
- 19:24Speaker 7: this year. And I think for Arch, which is pretty cool,
- 19:26Speaker 7: That was his fifth top 10 ranked team win that
- 19:29Speaker 7: he's had in his career. So some pretty cool stuff
- 19:32Speaker 7: that's happening. Proud of our guys, proud of the organization,
- 19:35Speaker 7: everybody involved to get that done. I think as far
- 19:39Speaker 7: as the other night goes, I love the way obviously
- 19:41Speaker 7: we started and played the first half of the game.
- 19:43Speaker 7: I think we scored on four of our first six
- 19:45Speaker 7: possessions in the ball game. And then ultimately wrapping it
- 19:49Speaker 7: up at the end of the game. the end of the,
- 19:50Speaker 7: at the end of the game with the, with the
- 19:53Speaker 7: 80 yard six play drive, that was all runs. And
- 19:56Speaker 7: then obviously then the next drive to get the field
- 19:58Speaker 7: goals with Relique, I thought playing really good situational football,
- 20:02Speaker 7: staying in bounds on the one run that he popped
- 20:04Speaker 7: out of there. Defensively, Three turnovers, which we know, you know,
- 20:08Speaker 7: I've been harping on this for a couple weeks now,
- 20:11Speaker 7: our ability to create turnovers. I thought that showed up.
- 20:15Speaker 7: I thought two of them were really critical. Obviously, all
- 20:18Speaker 7: three were, but they came at when we were faced
- 20:21Speaker 7: with adversity. And I thought I spoke to the team
- 20:23Speaker 7: about this this morning. I loved the positivity and the
- 20:27Speaker 7: energy when we were faced with adversity Saturday night. We
- 20:31Speaker 7: throw the pick in the first quarter. We come right
- 20:34Speaker 7: back the very next play, Cryer gets the interception. They
- 20:37Speaker 7: fake the punt. That drive ends with Raheem Biles getting
- 20:41Speaker 7: the interception. They get the onside kick. The game ends
- 20:44Speaker 7: with Jelani McDonald getting an interception. So it's the response
- 20:47Speaker 7: to the adversity that I was really proud of the
- 20:49Speaker 7: guys doing in the ballgame. And I know I touched
- 20:52Speaker 7: on last week on this. How can you tell your
- 20:57Speaker 7: team is working in a way, like what's something tangible
- 21:01Speaker 7: to hold on to? And I touched on Tuesday and
- 21:04Speaker 7: Wednesday's practices. I didn't have the numbers from Thursday's practice
- 21:07Speaker 7: yet from an analytical standpoint. But all week, Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 21:12Speaker 7: Thursday practices, we were at 120% effort. comparatively to our
- 21:17Speaker 7: normal practices on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in practice. Well,
- 21:22Speaker 7: the byproduct of that was we were 125% in game.
- 21:27Speaker 7: So you think about what our guys exuded all week
- 21:30Speaker 7: long and then what they exuded in that ball game.
- 21:33Speaker 7: I'm really proud of them and proud of the energy,
- 21:36Speaker 7: the effort, the physicality in which they played with. proud
- 21:39Speaker 7: of the edge that they played the game with. You know,
- 21:42Speaker 7: obviously we need to stay hungry. Now is not the
- 21:45Speaker 7: time for relief syndrome. Now is the time for a
- 21:47Speaker 7: mamba mentality. Like we got to stay hungry and nobody
- 21:50Speaker 7: did it better than Kobe. So that'll be the mentality
- 21:53Speaker 7: going into this thing. Obviously we were not perfect the
- 21:56Speaker 7: other night. I recognize that. There's always areas for improvement
- 22:00Speaker 7: and things to look for. the penalties were the first
- 22:03Speaker 7: thing that stood out when you go back and look
- 22:04Speaker 7: at the tape. There were some that were worthy, no
- 22:07Speaker 7: question of calls, that we need to get rectified. Most notably,
- 22:11Speaker 7: we had a couple plays that got to the perimeter
- 22:14Speaker 7: where we grabbed. Part of that is on the blocker.
- 22:17Speaker 7: Part of that is on the runner to set those blocks.
- 22:20Speaker 7: When a defender has leverage, we have to put our
- 22:22Speaker 7: foot in the ground and cut up inside of that.
- 22:24Speaker 7: So we'll work on that and get that fixed. Obviously,
- 22:27Speaker 7: there were some false start things there. that our guys were,
- 22:30Speaker 7: you know, they felt like the defense jumped. We then jumped.
- 22:33Speaker 7: We didn't get those calls. We haven't gotten an interpretation
- 22:36Speaker 7: on that yet from the league, which we will. I'll
- 22:38Speaker 7: have an answer for you guys on that on Thursday.
- 22:42Speaker 7: But I think what's important for us defensively is understanding
- 22:46Speaker 7: how to play with an edge, how to play with emotion,
- 22:49Speaker 7: not get emotional. And I felt like that came up
- 22:52Speaker 7: a couple times on defense and on special teams, so
- 22:55Speaker 7: we got to get that cleaned up as well. So,
- 22:57Speaker 7: All in all, it was a great win against a
- 22:59Speaker 7: very good football team. New challenge this week. We've put
- 23:03Speaker 7: ourselves in the position that we're in. We've got to
- 23:05Speaker 7: go right back to work with the same mentality. Mississippi State,
- 23:10Speaker 7: obviously a very dangerous football team. Kamario Taylor is a
- 23:13Speaker 7: fantastic quarterback. Understandably, he's going through some stuff from an
- 23:18Speaker 7: injury standpoint, but we have to prepare as if he's
- 23:20Speaker 7: going to play because this guy is a very dangerous player.
- 23:23Speaker 7: They have elite speed at wide receiver. Obviously, Evans is
- 23:27Speaker 7: a fantastic player, but he's not the only guy that
- 23:30Speaker 7: runs sub-10, 200 meters for those guys. They can really roll,
- 23:34Speaker 7: and Bothwell is a physical runner, and they do a
- 23:37Speaker 7: good job spreading you out and run the ball inside. Defensively,
- 23:40Speaker 7: Zach Arnett is a guy who I have a ton
- 23:42Speaker 7: of respect for as a defensive coordinator. He's been at
- 23:44Speaker 7: Mississippi State before. He's back again. They pose a ton
- 23:48Speaker 7: of threats with the multitude of defenses that they throw
- 23:51Speaker 7: at you and the athleticism that they play with. So,
- 23:53Speaker 7: heck of a challenge. But I wouldn't want to be
- 23:56Speaker 7: anywhere else on Halloween night than at DKR. Should be
- 23:59Speaker 7: a hell of an environment and looking forward to the
- 24:00Speaker 7: ball game. Raise your hand if you have a question.
- 24:03Speaker 2: We'll get a mic in.
- 24:04Speaker 14: Start in the car right there. Steve, during your time
- 24:08Speaker 14: at Texas, you've had talented backs, Bijan and Roshan together,
- 24:13Speaker 14: Jaden Blue, Trey Weiser together. But this year, you kind
- 24:16Speaker 14: of have co-RB1s. Can you talk about kind of the
- 24:18Speaker 14: nuances of when you have those guys in the past, Bijan, Roshan,
- 24:21Speaker 14: where there's an RB1, RB2, and this year there's co-RB1s?
- 24:24Speaker 7: Yeah, it's been an interesting year, which is part of
- 24:29Speaker 7: the reason why we kind of went out and got
- 24:30Speaker 7: both of them because– Of the grind of the season
- 24:34Speaker 7: and learning our time in the SEC and the physicality
- 24:38Speaker 7: and the toll that it takes on the runners in
- 24:39Speaker 7: our league. With the expectation, I didn't know if we
- 24:44Speaker 7: would have both of them every week. And clearly it's
- 24:47Speaker 7: been two different games now, Tennessee and Ole Miss, where
- 24:50Speaker 7: we didn't have Hollywood. And we really didn't have a
- 24:54Speaker 7: healthy Derek Cooper where Raleigh really had to shoulder the load.
- 24:59Speaker 7: And so it'd be nice to have them all and
- 25:01Speaker 7: to balance it out. but we're always trying to prepare
- 25:04Speaker 7: for if we don't have one or the other or two.
- 25:07Speaker 7: The caveat to this was what a debut for Michael
- 25:11Speaker 7: Terry to really play significant snaps at running back. I
- 25:14Speaker 7: thought he played a heck of a game, was impactful
- 25:16Speaker 7: in the game, not only in short yardage and third
- 25:19Speaker 7: down situations, but obviously when he had some opportunities to
- 25:22Speaker 7: carry the ball on first, second down. So every week
- 25:25Speaker 7: is a little bit different for us. You know, I
- 25:27Speaker 7: wish there was like They were all healthy and perfect,
- 25:30Speaker 7: and we could balance this thing out all the way through.
- 25:33Speaker 7: You just play the hand you're dealt each week, if
- 25:36Speaker 7: that makes sense. And then, okay, here's the plan, and
- 25:38Speaker 7: we get together as a staff kind of Thursday, Friday,
- 25:41Speaker 7: and then ultimately Saturday morning of how we think we
- 25:43Speaker 7: can play these guys moving forward. And then what are
- 25:47Speaker 7: the contingency plans if one of those guys gets nicked
- 25:50Speaker 7: up in-game? What are we going to go to next?
- 25:52Speaker 7: And so, like I said, I hope they're all healthy
- 25:55Speaker 7: this week for us because we need them. We're going
- 25:57Speaker 7: to need these guys. But if not, I think we
- 25:59Speaker 7: have enough depth at the position where a guy can
- 26:02Speaker 7: be a bell cow for a week or two to
- 26:04Speaker 7: get us through. Athlete, I think started at receiver, switched
- 26:06Speaker 7: to running back. Can you talk about his progression and
- 26:09Speaker 7: kind of his coming out party at that running back
- 26:11Speaker 7: position after everything he's kind of been through? Yeah, you know,
- 26:13Speaker 7: I think that Michael was a fantastic athlete, you know,
- 26:17Speaker 7: from Malamo Heights and what a versatile player he was,
- 26:21Speaker 7: you know, from wildcat quarterback to wide receiver to running back,
- 26:24Speaker 7: even at times playing on the defensive side of the ball.
- 26:28Speaker 7: but he was an athlete by label, right? And so
- 26:31Speaker 7: you try to figure out, okay, where's the best way
- 26:34Speaker 7: for this guy to have success? And looking at his
- 26:37Speaker 7: body and his structure and his skill set, we initially
- 26:40Speaker 7: thought wide receiver, maybe even an H-back might be the
- 26:43Speaker 7: best place for him to go. And then it was
- 26:47Speaker 7: about halfway through the season last year, maybe even almost
- 26:50Speaker 7: two-thirds of the way through the season that where we
- 26:54Speaker 7: needed him to play scout team running back. I can't
- 26:57Speaker 7: remember who we were playing. It might have been Georgia
- 26:58Speaker 7: or somebody. And the defensive coaches came to me, I think,
- 27:04Speaker 7: about maybe after Tuesday or Wednesday's practice, like, hey, this
- 27:07Speaker 7: guy's a problem. He's a problem at running back, and
- 27:11Speaker 7: you might want to take a look at him. So
- 27:13Speaker 7: I'm watching the tape. I said, shoot, they're right, so
- 27:16Speaker 7: let's make the switch. Well, making a switch in week
- 27:19Speaker 7: seven or eight or whatever it is of the season
- 27:21Speaker 7: is really challenging, not so much physically but mentally. You're
- 27:25Speaker 7: learning the offense as a receiver, and now all of
- 27:28Speaker 7: a sudden you're going back to running back, and you're
- 27:30Speaker 7: trying to learn protections. You're trying to learn run-blocking schemes.
- 27:32Speaker 7: You're trying to learn the nuances of the fundamentals, the
- 27:35Speaker 7: techniques at the position. And to Michael's credit, he worked
- 27:40Speaker 7: at it, you know, and he just kept kind of
- 27:41Speaker 7: working at it. And he had never really been a
- 27:43Speaker 7: full-time running back. So there's a lot of things at
- 27:45Speaker 7: that position that you have to learn through and grow
- 27:48Speaker 7: through and the growing pains. And he's worked really hard.
- 27:52Speaker 7: I credit Coach DeLuke. for his dedication to working with Michael.
- 27:56Speaker 7: And I think we're all seeing the benefits of the
- 27:59Speaker 7: hard work that everybody's put into this thing. And I'm
- 28:02Speaker 7: really proud of Michael because it could have been easy
- 28:04Speaker 7: at the end of the year to jump in the
- 28:05Speaker 7: portal like a lot of other guys do and, hey,
- 28:07Speaker 7: I want to go be this or be that or
- 28:10Speaker 7: go somewhere. And this guy just stayed to the grind
- 28:12Speaker 7: and stayed working. And he's a really effective player for
- 28:16Speaker 7: us on special teams and is now finding a role
- 28:19Speaker 7: and is carving out a role for himself on offense too.
- 28:24Speaker 6: Good morning, Coach.
- 28:24Speaker 15: Coach, I believe there's only three undefeated teams in the
- 28:28Speaker 15: top 25 right now. There's no undefeated SEC teams, and
- 28:32Speaker 15: there are eight of you guys with two losses in
- 28:36Speaker 15: the conference. Does the transfer portal just make it hard
- 28:40Speaker 15: to have a dominant team from top to bottom nowadays?
- 28:44Speaker 15: Why do you think there's so much parity that's going on?
- 28:47Speaker 7: Do you have to wrap your head around that? I
- 28:49Speaker 7: think it's a good point because I think that The
- 28:53Speaker 7: transfer portal does two things, right? One, there's a lot
- 28:59Speaker 7: of really good players spread out on a lot of rosters.
- 29:05Speaker 7: It doesn't really matter who you play in our league.
- 29:07Speaker 7: There's always been good players in our conference, but I
- 29:10Speaker 7: think now more than ever, people have depth and people
- 29:13Speaker 7: are versatile. They're not just good on one side of
- 29:16Speaker 7: the ball or the other. They've got really good depth
- 29:17Speaker 7: on their team, and they're more than equipped to go
- 29:22Speaker 7: beat anybody. On the flip side, for us, we've got
- 29:27Speaker 7: new players too, and we might not have the same
- 29:30Speaker 7: depth that maybe the SEC top-tier teams had in the past.
- 29:34Speaker 7: And so the combination of those two things, I think,
- 29:39Speaker 7: add up. to it creates more opportunities for teams to
- 29:43Speaker 7: knock teams off. If you're not playing your best football
- 29:45Speaker 7: that day just about everybody's good enough to beat anybody
- 29:49Speaker 7: in our league. And I think that I don't pretend
- 29:53Speaker 7: to foresee the future but I've been kind of saying
- 29:55Speaker 7: this and It's now starting to show itself more and
- 29:59Speaker 7: more and more often. And I have a ton of
- 30:04Speaker 7: respect for Georgia, obviously, and for the job that they've done.
- 30:07Speaker 7: But there's no game more indicative than that game at
- 30:10Speaker 7: home when they played Auburn at home. And how do
- 30:13Speaker 7: you lose those games? Three turnovers. We talk about turnovers
- 30:16Speaker 7: all the time. And then Auburn being equipped enough, if
- 30:19Speaker 7: there's a crack in the door, that Auburn can beat
- 30:21Speaker 7: a Georgia on the road at a place where most
- 30:24Speaker 7: people don't go and win. And so I think that's
- 30:26Speaker 7: the best living example of what that is. Now, there's
- 30:29Speaker 7: rivalry games and all these other things that can play
- 30:31Speaker 7: into that. But I do think it's the quality of
- 30:34Speaker 7: teams in our league. It's also the lack of depth
- 30:38Speaker 7: that maybe some other teams are used to having. and
- 30:41Speaker 7: there's just more parity. It just is what it is. Again,
- 30:44Speaker 7: I go back to I think that is a direct
- 30:46Speaker 7: result of the transfer portal and what that looks like,
- 30:49Speaker 7: and really good players have an opportunity to go to
- 30:52Speaker 7: other schools.
- 30:52Speaker 1: All right, that's Steve Sarkeesian again hosting Mississippi State on Saturday.
- 31:00Speaker 1: The Aggies, of course, with the week off before heading
- 31:04Speaker 1: to South Carolina for a mid-afternoon game the following Saturday
- 31:09Speaker 1: on the 7th.
- 31:11Speaker 3: On ESPN.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Coming up, we've got a high school report. We're going
- 31:16Speaker 1: to hear from Coach Cal. We're going to talk a
- 31:18Speaker 1: little basketball, which I told you we would during this
- 31:21Speaker 1: off week. Also coming up, Austin Sayre, filmmaker, and his
- 31:28Speaker 1: film on Texas songwriting legend Stephen Frumholtz, The Man in
- 31:33Speaker 1: the Big Hat.
- 31:35Speaker 3: That is in the second hour.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Lizzie is here for Mallory with some outdoor news as well.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Sevchak Service Center is open right now. They're open until
- 31:45Speaker 3: 6 o'clock this evening.
- 31:48Speaker 1: They're open 7 to 6.
- 31:50Speaker 3: This is the garage area.
- 31:51Speaker 1: The gas has expanded hours, opens early, stays late. They're
- 31:56Speaker 1: open 7 to 6 through Friday and 7 to 4
- 32:00Speaker 1: on Saturday.
- 32:02Speaker 3: You know, this is the week.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Aggies aren't playing. The football schedule isn't great. If you
- 32:09Speaker 1: have to go on Saturday, they can take care of you.
- 32:13Speaker 3: That's why they're there.
- 32:14Speaker 1: There's no better place for emergencies like flat tires or
- 32:18Speaker 1: dead batteries or dead tires or flat batteries. They work
- 32:22Speaker 1: on all kinds of stuff every single day. Pat is
- 32:27Speaker 1: carrying on the long family Sebchek tradition of service and
- 32:33Speaker 1: customer satisfaction. It's Sebchek Service Center, 2200 Long March. This
- 32:38Speaker 1: is Tom from the post office in College Station.
- 32:41Speaker 16: Howdy, I'm Bob Yancey, proud Aggie grad and Air Force veteran,
- 32:44Speaker 16: two-term councilman, and candidate for College Station Mayor. If you
- 32:48Speaker 16: believe City Hall should put citizens, neighborhoods, and public safety first,
- 32:52Speaker 16: I hope you'll consider a vote for me, Bob Yancey.
- 32:55Speaker 16: I'll hold the line on taxes and spending, welcome smart
- 32:58Speaker 16: growth and a healthy housing market, and find ways to
- 33:00Speaker 16: work better together supporting transparency and common sense in City Hall.
- 33:05Speaker 16: Please vote Bob Yancey.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Political ad paid for by the Bob Yancey Campaign.
- 33:09Speaker 7: Christy Yancey, Treasurer.
- 33:12Speaker 17: It's Tech Sags Live, brought to you by David Gardner's Jewelers.
- 33:15Speaker 18: Joined by our SEC insider, Conor O'Gara. How many more
- 33:18Speaker 18: wins does A & M have in their future?
- 33:21Speaker 5: Two at most. Two at most.
- 33:26Speaker 19: I think the remaining schedule is still difficult. It's not
- 33:28Speaker 19: impossible because nothing is impossible in the SEC this year.
- 33:33Speaker 19: There's not one of those games I would look at
- 33:35Speaker 19: and say, without a doubt, A & M is getting trucked.
- 33:39Speaker 19: And if you tell me Texas, I would say, well,
- 33:41Speaker 19: Texas has played, what, five power conference games and all
- 33:45Speaker 19: of them have gone down to the wire. So I
- 33:47Speaker 19: don't really even look at that and say Texas is
- 33:50Speaker 19: going to be heads and shoulders above the Aggies.
- 33:53Speaker 7: Yeah, it's It's difficult right.
- 33:55Speaker 19: Now to envision a scenario in which A & M
- 33:57Speaker 19: goes 3-1 down the stretch. I don't think that is realistic.
- 34:00Speaker 19: I think that game at South Carolina, with how much
- 34:03Speaker 19: that team still cares, that matters.
- 34:19Speaker 10: If you know what I mean Mississippi Queen She taught.
- 34:26Speaker 17: Me everything Welcome into the High School Report. I'm Caleb Rapley,
- 34:32Speaker 17: and today we're jumping out to the Polaris Fun Center
- 34:34Speaker 17: phone line to visit with the head coach of the
- 34:36Speaker 17: Navasota Rattlers football team, Mr. Trey Allen. Coach, thanks for
- 34:40Speaker 17: joining me today.
- 34:40Speaker 5: Yes, sir. Thanks for having me.
- 34:42Speaker 17: So you're Rattlers a solid season so far in 2026
- 34:45Speaker 17: as we are coming down the stretch of Final couple
- 34:49Speaker 17: games of the regular season on deck for your Rattlers.
- 34:53Speaker 17: But overall, 5-3 record. How would you grade your team's
- 34:58Speaker 17: performance so far this season?
- 35:00Speaker 5: Well, I'll tell you this. Last week versus Sealy, Sealy's
- 35:04Speaker 5: a very good football team. They're well coached, and they...
- 35:08Speaker 5: beat us kind of at every phase, especially in.
- 35:10Speaker 16: The second half.
- 35:14Speaker 5: But the two games we lost prior to that, I
- 35:17Speaker 5: really thought that we had opportunities to win the game,
- 35:20Speaker 5: and we shot ourselves in the foot, whether it be
- 35:23Speaker 5: by penalties, turnovers. you know, drop passes, you know, miss blocks,
- 35:30Speaker 5: miss tackles, you know, whatever the case may be. I
- 35:32Speaker 5: really thought we had opportunities in the last, the two
- 35:36Speaker 5: games prior to Sealy that we lost that we, you know,
- 35:41Speaker 5: we should have gone into that last week game undefeated. Um,
- 35:44Speaker 5: but that's not how the chips fell. And, um, and so,
- 35:48Speaker 5: you know, we're five and three right now. It's still a,
- 35:50Speaker 5: still a good season and still have a chance to
- 35:52Speaker 5: make playoffs and, and make a run at it. And
- 35:55Speaker 5: so we're, we're looking ahead to see what we can do.
- 35:58Speaker 17: Coming into this season. Um, it was, you know, I
- 36:01Speaker 17: would say in the middle, as far as experience goes
- 36:05Speaker 17: for this team, uh, a lot of returning players on
- 36:08Speaker 17: offense and then the defense that was a little bit younger, uh,
- 36:11Speaker 17: But how would you say that some of those younger
- 36:13Speaker 17: players that have had to step up and contribute to
- 36:15Speaker 17: the team this year have done?
- 36:17Speaker 5: I think they've done well. You know, it's not only
- 36:19Speaker 5: they stepped up on the defensive side, but we have
- 36:22Speaker 5: a lot of guys that go both ways. You know,
- 36:24Speaker 5: they play offense and defense. And not only that, you know,
- 36:29Speaker 5: just like every football season, you deal with injuries and
- 36:31Speaker 5: this guy goes down. So, hey, I need you to
- 36:32Speaker 5: play defensively. these two different positions on defense, depending on
- 36:36Speaker 5: who's in and what we're doing scheme wise. And I
- 36:39Speaker 5: think they've done a good job. Could we have been
- 36:42Speaker 5: better at times? Absolutely. But that goes to that inexperience
- 36:46Speaker 5: and being young. I think we, the last two games,
- 36:50Speaker 5: we've started a total of six sophomores and, and one
- 36:54Speaker 5: freshman in one of those games. And, and so, you know, it's, it's,
- 36:58Speaker 5: You know, we've had some injuries. We've been bitten by
- 37:01Speaker 5: that bug a little bit in the last month. But,
- 37:04Speaker 5: you know, it's next man up. And I don't care if,
- 37:07Speaker 5: you know, we coach the same on varsity, JV, and freshman.
- 37:10Speaker 5: So they understand our schemes. They understand what we expect.
- 37:14Speaker 5: And it's just a little faster on Friday night than
- 37:16Speaker 5: it is Thursday night. But overall, I think they've done
- 37:20Speaker 5: an outstanding job, the guys that have stepped up to
- 37:22Speaker 5: the plate and, you know, filled some pretty big shoes
- 37:25Speaker 5: from last year.
- 37:26Speaker 17: So you mentioned a lot of players or a few
- 37:28Speaker 17: players on your squad go both ways, offense and defense.
- 37:32Speaker 17: How difficult is it for you as a coach in practice,
- 37:35Speaker 17: you know, making sure that those players get enough reps
- 37:38Speaker 17: at all of the positions that they are going to
- 37:40Speaker 17: need to cover? And then also managing that balancing act
- 37:44Speaker 17: of making sure these players are rested and healthy while
- 37:47Speaker 17: they're playing so many, almost every snap in a game.
- 37:51Speaker 5: Yeah, it's difficult, especially, you know, at the beginning of
- 37:55Speaker 5: the year, it's not as difficult because everybody's healthy. But once,
- 37:59Speaker 5: you know, you have one, two, three, six people go down,
- 38:02Speaker 5: now it's really a concern on how you practice and,
- 38:07Speaker 5: you know, you kind of put them on a pitch count,
- 38:09Speaker 5: so to speak, during a game or whatnot. You know,
- 38:12Speaker 5: I can think of somebody like Cason Douglas who has
- 38:14Speaker 5: started on both sides of the ball all year long. And,
- 38:18Speaker 5: you know, if he just ran three fade routes or
- 38:21Speaker 5: post routes or whatever else on offense, hey, we may
- 38:23Speaker 5: want to put somebody else to start off on defense
- 38:25Speaker 5: for him. And, you know, after a few plays, he
- 38:27Speaker 5: says he's good. Okay, get back out there. Let's go.
- 38:30Speaker 5: And so we rely on the kids to kind of
- 38:33Speaker 5: talk to us. But, you know, a lot of times
- 38:35Speaker 5: our kids are, no, I'm.
- 38:36Speaker 8: Good to go.
- 38:36Speaker 5: I'm good to go. Well, it goes to us just
- 38:39Speaker 5: trying to be smart with it. Let me give you
- 38:41Speaker 5: a couple plays right here to kind of catch your breath.
- 38:44Speaker 5: As far as practice, we've got to kind of limit
- 38:47Speaker 5: how many hits they take and how we work on
- 38:50Speaker 5: tackling and things like that because they are playing both
- 38:52Speaker 5: sides of the ball because with a lot of those kids,
- 38:55Speaker 5: you lose one starter. If he goes down, you're really
- 38:58Speaker 5: losing two starters on both sides of the ball. So
- 39:03Speaker 5: it's a point of emphasis for us on the weekends
- 39:05Speaker 5: when we're working of who's going in where and what
- 39:08Speaker 5: and how much they're doing and things like that.
- 39:10Speaker 17: Looking ahead to this Friday's matchup, You will be taking
- 39:14Speaker 17: on the El Campo Ricebirds. El Campo, one of those
- 39:18Speaker 17: teams that's in the mix for the district championship in
- 39:22Speaker 17: District 11. They are 7-1 overall. Their one loss was
- 39:25Speaker 17: to Bay City, a team that your Rattlers have faced
- 39:28Speaker 17: and played a very good game.
- 39:30Speaker 6: Against.
- 39:30Speaker 17: So what do you expect to see from El Campo?
- 39:33Speaker 5: Well, first of all, they're a very good offensively.
- 39:38Speaker 5: They're a good offensive team. They're coached extremely well on
- 39:42Speaker 5: both sides of the ball. They're disciplined in what they do.
- 39:45Speaker 5: They do a good job of moving people around on
- 39:48Speaker 5: offense to try to get the defense out leveraged and
- 39:51Speaker 5: eyes where they're not supposed to be. And so I
- 39:55Speaker 5: anticipate them coming out and trying to attack us. We
- 39:59Speaker 5: have struggled against the run all year long and just
- 40:03Speaker 5: with inexperience in size. And so I anticipate them doing
- 40:07Speaker 5: that tenfold against us. And so we're going to have
- 40:10Speaker 5: to be ready to go and be disciplined in how
- 40:12Speaker 5: we line up and where our focus is and where
- 40:14Speaker 5: our eyes are and things like that to know where
- 40:17Speaker 5: to fit. And then we're going to have to tackle.
- 40:20Speaker 5: You know, they have two really good running backs. They
- 40:21Speaker 5: have a quarterback that can throw it. Their offensive line
- 40:24Speaker 5: does an outstanding job. And so do their tight end
- 40:27Speaker 5: and H-back Z. And so, you know, it'll be challenging. Defensively,
- 40:32Speaker 5: I think they kind of have the mindset of make
- 40:34Speaker 5: them huddle. You know, they want to keep everything in front,
- 40:37Speaker 5: rally and tackle. They do a great job of tackling.
- 40:40Speaker 5: The D-line is very explosive. They fire off the ball.
- 40:43Speaker 5: And so our offensive line and Jace and our receiving core,
- 40:49Speaker 5: they're going to have to do a good job of
- 40:51Speaker 5: making plays after the catch or making plays past line
- 40:53Speaker 5: of scrimmage.
- 40:55Speaker 17: Yeah, so you mentioned the offense of El Campo. They
- 40:57Speaker 17: have scored at least... 35 points in all but two
- 41:02Speaker 17: games this season. But when a lot of people think
- 41:05Speaker 17: of high-scoring offenses, they kind of envision the air raid
- 41:09Speaker 17: type offense. But this is not at all what we're
- 41:12Speaker 17: going to see from El Campo. That's never really been
- 41:15Speaker 17: their M.O. They've always been a very heavy run team,
- 41:17Speaker 17: like you've mentioned. So their lead back, Vladimir Garcia, he's
- 41:21Speaker 17: been a very big part of that offense for all
- 41:24Speaker 17: four years that he has been at El Campo. This year,
- 41:27Speaker 17: already over 1,300 yards, almost 20 rushing touchdowns on the season.
- 41:31Speaker 17: So how do you plan to stop that very strong
- 41:34Speaker 17: rushing attack from the Riceburgs?
- 41:36Speaker 5: Yeah, so, I mean, once again, I think they're very
- 41:39Speaker 5: well coached, and it doesn't matter really how you line
- 41:42Speaker 5: up or who you have. You know, I really think
- 41:46Speaker 5: that El Campo, if they go against the University of Texas,
- 41:50Speaker 5: they're still going to do what they do. It doesn't
- 41:52Speaker 5: matter who they're going against. They're going to just do
- 41:55Speaker 5: what they do, and they're going to do it very well.
- 41:58Speaker 5: And so, you know, the key for us is going
- 42:01Speaker 5: to be, can we fit where we're supposed to fit?
- 42:03Speaker 5: Can we get off blocks, and can we make tackles?
- 42:06Speaker 5: That's going to be the key. You know, with all
- 42:08Speaker 5: the motion and stuff they do, that's going to be
- 42:12Speaker 5: big for us also to be able to kind of
- 42:14Speaker 5: counteract where, hey, our eyes are where they're supposed to be.
- 42:18Speaker 5: We're looking at who we're supposed to look at, no
- 42:20Speaker 5: matter about the motion or anything like that, and then kind.
- 42:23Speaker 8: Of go from there.
- 42:23Speaker 5: But the key is going to be can we get
- 42:25Speaker 5: off blocks and can we tackle? That's going to be
- 42:27Speaker 5: the key to trying to stop that Russian attack, because
- 42:29Speaker 5: you're exactly right. It's a well-oiled machine as far as
- 42:33Speaker 5: their Russian attack.
- 42:35Speaker 17: And as we come into the last two games of
- 42:37Speaker 17: the season here, playoff hopes are definitely very much in
- 42:41Speaker 17: play here. A win over El Campo, I think, would
- 42:44Speaker 17: come very close to sealing up a playoff spot. Next
- 42:47Speaker 17: week against Needville is also another opportunity to clinch that.
- 42:51Speaker 17: So looking at the final stretch of the regular season,
- 42:55Speaker 17: these two games will decide whether or not this Rattlers
- 42:58Speaker 17: team goes home early or gets to keep the season alive.
- 43:02Speaker 17: So as a coach, how do you handle that pressure
- 43:05Speaker 17: and how do you make sure that your players are
- 43:06Speaker 17: ready for that moment?
- 43:08Speaker 5: We take it one game at a time and really
- 43:11Speaker 5: not even one game at a time. We take it
- 43:12Speaker 5: one day at a time. So, you know, our slogan
- 43:15Speaker 5: is win the day. And it's not just a slogan.
- 43:17Speaker 5: It's what we try to live by every single day.
- 43:20Speaker 5: Can you win this rep? Can you win this practice?
- 43:22Speaker 5: Can you win today during algebra class or whatever else
- 43:25Speaker 5: that you're doing to I want you to win each day,
- 43:28Speaker 5: do the very best you can every day in whatever
- 43:30Speaker 5: you're doing. And so I'm not worried about tomorrow. We're
- 43:34Speaker 5: worried about fifth period practice today. And that's it. That's
- 43:37Speaker 5: all we're worried about. And so the chips will fall
- 43:40Speaker 5: wherever they may, depending on what happens the next two Fridays.
- 43:44Speaker 5: But I don't want our team concerned with that. I
- 43:47Speaker 5: want us to just focus on how are we going
- 43:49Speaker 5: to be at practice today? Do we have the right
- 43:51Speaker 5: mindset in practice today? Are we giving our full attention
- 43:55Speaker 5: and effort in practice today? That's all that matters to us.
- 43:58Speaker 17: All right, Coach. Well, I appreciate your time today. Good
- 44:00Speaker 17: luck to your Rattlers the rest of the season.
- 44:02Speaker 6: Okay.
- 44:03Speaker 8: Thank you. Win today.

- 45:44Speaker 1: We'll have our regular Friday interviews with Tony Catalina of

- 46:16Speaker 1: from Coach Cal, Arkansas. They had a scrimmage, no, an

- 47:14Speaker 21: The Houston Texans are looking for a string of wins
- 47:17Speaker 21: as they head into November with five losses. Giving up
- 47:19Speaker 21: explosive plays in overtime led to the loss over the weekend,
- 47:23Speaker 21: and now the question for the defense becomes, is coaching
- 47:25Speaker 21: or execution the problem? In his press conference yesterday, Texans
- 47:28Speaker 21: head coach D'Amico Ryan spoke on how he identifies whether
- 47:31Speaker 21: his coaching leads to mistakes or player execution.
- 47:34Speaker 22: Yeah, it means if it's not showing up, I really
- 47:36Speaker 22: got to do a better job to make sure it
- 47:39Speaker 22: shows up, like what you see on tape. is what
- 47:42Speaker 22: we're coaching, right? And so if it shows up on
- 47:44Speaker 22: tape that we're not tackling well, I got to make
- 47:47Speaker 22: sure I'm emphasizing that much more and putting the guys
- 47:50Speaker 22: in position throughout the weekend practice to get that done.
- 47:53Speaker 21: Mistackles and poor physicality was a major issue against New
- 47:56Speaker 21: York as the Giants ran for 188 yards and forced
- 47:59Speaker 21: three sacks on C.J. Stroud. Now the Texans head into
- 48:02Speaker 21: the bye week with their eyes on the matchup two
- 48:04Speaker 21: weeks away against the winless Los Angeles Chargers. And it's
- 48:07Speaker 21: safe to say that matchup will be a must win
- 48:09Speaker 21: for the Texans. With your Houston Texans report, I'm Jett Nelson.

- 49:51Speaker 1: John Fogerty and Creedence here for you on a Tuesday edition.
- 49:58Speaker 1: As promised, we're going to hear a little bit from
- 50:00Speaker 1: Coach Cal, his Arkansas team down Gonzaga, who is playing
- 50:05Speaker 1: without one of their best players, getting ready for the
- 50:08Speaker 1: season to open next week.
- 50:10Speaker 3: Here is John Calipari.
- 50:14Speaker 6: And we were trying to do some stuff, and you
- 50:16Speaker 6: can tell we're not where we need to be offensively.
- 50:19Speaker 6: We're just not. And so I got a lot of
- 50:22Speaker 6: stuff to figure out, but... I'll just throw this out,
- 50:27Speaker 6: and then I'll answer questions. I was planning on starting
- 50:31Speaker 6: a different group in the second half, and I told
- 50:34Speaker 6: the team yesterday, I'm going to start this group, but
- 50:37Speaker 6: I may start a different group in the second half.
- 50:40Speaker 6: And then the reason I went with the group I
- 50:42Speaker 6: went is they finished so strong, Davion, Abdu, JJ, Mika,
- 50:48Speaker 6: and Cooper, I said, leave them in. They got nine
- 50:51Speaker 6: straight stops to start the half. J.J. had 10 rebounds.
- 50:56Speaker 6: I told him, you rebound like that kid, you're going
- 50:58Speaker 6: to play. I got no choice. You saw us starting
- 51:01Speaker 6: the game. What couldn't we do? Rebound. And now all
- 51:06Speaker 6: of a sudden we got guys, Cooper, I got on
- 51:09Speaker 6: him a little bit. He ends up with the double-double.
- 51:13Speaker 6: But it appears this is going to be different players,
- 51:18Speaker 6: different games. Billy making threes. He's gotten so much better.
- 51:22Speaker 6: Think about it. That steal probably won the game over
- 51:25Speaker 6: the top where he went down and got fouled and,
- 51:28Speaker 6: you know, not only stops that, but puts another point
- 51:31Speaker 6: on the board.
- 51:32Speaker 5: But, yes.
- 51:35Speaker 24: You get to coach Mika in a game environment for
- 51:39Speaker 24: the first time. I guess just what did you make
- 51:41Speaker 24: of his performance? What did you like?
- 51:43Speaker 6: He thought he was really good. Thought he was really good. Rebounded,
- 51:48Speaker 6: fought inside, can stretch the court, can go get you
- 51:51Speaker 6: a basket. good passer. Look, we had 10 turnovers in
- 51:57Speaker 6: the first half. You guys know that's not my team playing.
- 52:02Speaker 6: That's not. And they weren't forcing us. They were unforced turnovers. Like,
- 52:07Speaker 6: are you kidding me? Which means you're not getting open.
- 52:11Speaker 6: So the guys fumbled two. You ready? Instead of just
- 52:17Speaker 6: throwing it, you're thinking of what you can do first
- 52:20Speaker 6: and then throw it. Second half, we had two turnovers. And, again,
- 52:24Speaker 6: part of it was how we started the game and
- 52:27Speaker 6: everybody making easy plays. But having 12 for the game,
- 52:34Speaker 6: Mika had four of them, though, but played pretty good.
- 52:39Speaker 24: For Davion to hit that shot at the end, being
- 52:42Speaker 24: as young as he is, what do you think that
- 52:44Speaker 24: kind of says about him and his confidence to step
- 52:47Speaker 24: up in a moment like that?
- 52:49Speaker 6: I've had guys like him. Now, here's what he's got
- 52:53Speaker 6: to do because of how he shoots it. Give it
- 52:55Speaker 6: up early and then move and the ball will find
- 52:59Speaker 6: its way to you. It always does. He wants to
- 53:02Speaker 6: hold it one extra bounce. I don't want you to
- 53:05Speaker 6: because I want you to get it back. Come down,
- 53:08Speaker 6: throw it up early, go away, the ball spins, it
- 53:10Speaker 6: comes to you, shoot it. But it's hard because he's
- 53:14Speaker 6: always had the ball. He made a couple plays where
- 53:17Speaker 6: he drove in and turned it over and then one
- 53:19Speaker 6: he just threw. He's 17 years old, and he made
- 53:22Speaker 6: that shot. Now, you could say it was a scrimmage
- 53:25Speaker 6: or exhibition. You can say what you want. Could you
- 53:27Speaker 6: have made that shot? Not in that.
- 53:30Speaker 3: I know.
- 53:31Speaker 6: I know you could. I was going to answer for you.
- 53:35Speaker 6: But it's, you know, he wasn't afraid.
- 53:39Speaker 13: You dominated transition 25-11, but five of 16 on layups
- 53:43Speaker 13: might have been a bigger margin. What did you see
- 53:46Speaker 13: that was the difficulty just getting finishes with this?
- 53:48Speaker 6: They're big. They're big. And, you know, I thought there's
- 53:54Speaker 6: times on four or five of our turnovers where he
- 53:58Speaker 6: drove into seven foot. He's there.
- 54:02Speaker 3: Don't keep going.
- 54:02Speaker 6: I'm going to get this off. You're not getting it off.
- 54:06Speaker 6: It's going to get a block. They ended up with four,
- 54:09Speaker 6: but we ended up with six. And one of the
- 54:12Speaker 6: things I told you, they cleared us out some. We
- 54:16Speaker 6: got to do some work on that. Now for all
- 54:19Speaker 6: you basketball bennies, how do we make this a transition team? What?
- 54:26Speaker 13: Live ball turnovers, defense to rebound and go.
- 54:28Speaker 6: Defense, defense, defense, rebound, go, bang. That's what you saw.
- 54:34Speaker 6: If they're scoring or we're fouling, you're giving them a chance.
- 54:40Speaker 6: And because we're deep, the more we run, you get
- 54:43Speaker 6: into their legs at some point. where they couldn't get there.
- 54:48Speaker 13: The 18-0 run, partly in the first half 9-0 and
- 54:52Speaker 13: then another 9-0 to start, how pleased were you to
- 54:57Speaker 13: see to finish a half that way and then begin
- 54:59Speaker 13: the next half that way?
- 55:01Speaker 6: Well, we talked about the turnovers at half, why we
- 55:04Speaker 6: had them. We talked about some of the things, defensive
- 55:11Speaker 6: breakdowns that we had, But we had– I don't know
- 55:15Speaker 6: if the gym was hot or maybe we're not going
- 55:17Speaker 6: as hard as I think we are, but we had
- 55:19Speaker 6: like three guys cramp up. Like you're thinking they're hurt. No,
- 55:24Speaker 6: they cramped. So we had to figure that out. I
- 55:28Speaker 6: told Matt, our trainer, I said, Matt, we've got to
- 55:31Speaker 6: figure out what happened. But let me say this too.
