- 1:51Speaker 1: our new full episode on Sean Diddy Comb's, this week's
- 1:55Speaker 1: rewind episode on the Temptations, and of course your voicemails,
- 1:58Speaker 1: your texts, your dms and more has always a whole
- 2:01Speaker 1: lot of rosie. Al Right, disco is, let's get into
- 2:05Speaker 1: it all right.
- 2:17Speaker 2: This week in.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Disgraceland, a brand new episode on Sean Ditty Combs seems
- 2:24Speaker 1: about right right. Hip hop mogul, bad Boys, bad boy, notorious,
- 2:30Speaker 1: BIG's bff, a guy who just lately can't stay out
- 2:35Speaker 1: of the fucking news. You've probably read or heard that
- 2:38Speaker 1: Diddy has been charged with a couple. I don't even
- 2:46Speaker 1: know how to describe this. We talked about it in
- 2:49Speaker 1: the episode in the preamble before the episode. There was
- 2:52Speaker 1: some lawsuits that were filed last month, including one from
- 2:55Speaker 1: the artist Cassie, who is Ditty's longtime girlfriend, that was
- 2:58Speaker 1: settled in twenty four hours. Twenty four hours. And then
- 3:02Speaker 1: there were the accusations about a seventeen year old girl
- 3:06Speaker 1: being gang raped in a recording studio, accusations that Diddy
- 3:10Speaker 1: forcefully denied. The followout from all this has been huge.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Eighteen brands have since ended their partnership with Ditty's Empower
- 3:19Speaker 1: Global project. That's an e commerce platform designed to uplift
- 3:25Speaker 1: black owned companies that Diddy is at the forefront of.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And now I just got to say, if you guys
- 3:31Speaker 1: haven't heard it yet, our new episode on Ditty does
- 3:34Speaker 1: not address aside from the very tip top of the show,
- 3:37Speaker 1: doesn't address these allegations. We produced this episode long before
- 3:42Speaker 1: and finished it long before these allegations came out, and frankly,
- 3:46Speaker 1: the allegations are too fresh, they're too raw, there's too
- 3:50Speaker 1: much unknown for us to really even get into it
- 3:53Speaker 1: in a responsible way. So doesn't mean there's not plenty
- 3:58Speaker 1: to get into in this episode, and in a way,
- 4:00Speaker 1: what we do get into in the episode informs everything
- 4:04Speaker 1: that you're reading about Diddy right now in the news.
- 4:08Speaker 1: What I found most interesting. You know, this episode is
- 4:10Speaker 1: set around the nightclub shooting with Diddy and j Lo
- 4:16Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety nine, when there was a shooting. Diddy
- 4:20Speaker 1: was accused of a legal possession of a gun and
- 4:24Speaker 1: bribery at this nightclub. The shooting happens, Diddy, you know,
- 4:30Speaker 1: gets out of the club, hops into the Lincoln Navigator
- 4:33Speaker 1: with his bodyguards and Jennifer Lopez and they screw away
- 4:37Speaker 1: into the night and run like something like eleven red
- 4:40Speaker 1: lights or something like that before they stop by the cops.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Like I said, he was charged with the legal possession
- 4:45Speaker 1: of a gun. He was charged with robbery. There were
- 4:47Speaker 1: sixty eye witnesses. The woman who was shot in the
- 4:50Speaker 1: face claims that Diddy had the gun. Anyways, he was
- 4:54Speaker 1: acquitted on these charges. Now to how the this violent
- 5:01Speaker 1: history informs what we're talking about in the latest episode
- 5:05Speaker 1: of Disgraceland on Diddy, there's this incident in nineteen ninety
- 5:08Speaker 1: nine where he was acquitted, but then there was a
- 5:10Speaker 1: civil case that came later and he settled with the victims.
- 5:15Speaker 1: There was an incident also that year where did he
- 5:18Speaker 1: got into it with a record executive at I believe
- 5:22Speaker 1: Interscope and a lot has been alleged there was a
- 5:26Speaker 1: beating that happened in the record executive's office that was
- 5:30Speaker 1: settled out of court and rumored to be I've read
- 5:34Speaker 1: anything from half a million dollars that did he paid
- 5:37Speaker 1: to over a million. Again, that's unofficial news that's been reported,
- 5:46Speaker 1: that's out there. I can't say for sure if it's true,
- 5:48Speaker 1: but it looks like there was a second settlement there. Then,
- 5:52Speaker 1: way back in nineteen ninety one, Didty was the promoter
- 5:58Speaker 1: of a charity. I believe it was a chair basketball
- 6:01Speaker 1: game that had a concert attached to it as well,
- 6:04Speaker 1: with some at the time hip hop luminaries. And this
- 6:08Speaker 1: is at City College in Manhattan. There was a stampede.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Three people died, twenty nine people were injured, and there
- 6:15Speaker 1: was a settlement there as well. Okay, so you got
- 6:18Speaker 1: these four settlements, So what does it all say? Where
- 6:20Speaker 1: are we going with this? Did He strongly denies any
- 6:23Speaker 1: wrongdoing in the allegations of recent allegations with the seventeen
- 6:28Speaker 1: year old, but there is a history of misadventure, to
- 6:33Speaker 1: say the least, to put it, put it mildly here
- 6:37Speaker 1: with Sean Combs, and I'm really interested to see where
- 6:41Speaker 1: this is going. I know you are as well, and
- 6:43Speaker 1: I think that the episode that we just produced on
- 6:47Speaker 1: Diddy does a lot in sort of giving us context
- 6:51Speaker 1: to the recent charges. So I hope you check it out.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I hope you dig it. Six one seven nine oh
- 6:56Speaker 1: six six six three eight. Call me, leave me a voicemail,
- 7:00Speaker 1: send me a text, let me know what you think
- 7:02Speaker 1: of the episode, Let me know what you think of Diddy,
- 7:03Speaker 1: let me know if you think he's innocent, let me
- 7:06Speaker 1: know if you think there's anything to these charges. We
- 7:08Speaker 1: can discuss it, okay. One of the items from this
- 7:11Speaker 1: episode that we do get into that I find particularly interesting,
- 7:14Speaker 1: and I think you guys will as well, is the
- 7:16Speaker 1: issue of Ditty and Sting. And I'm not going to
- 7:20Speaker 1: burn it here. I want you to go back and
- 7:22Speaker 1: listen to the episode if you haven't already. It concerns
- 7:25Speaker 1: the amount of money that Diddy has to pay Sting
- 7:29Speaker 1: every day in perpetuity for the rest of their lives.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Apparently or forever. I don't even know, beyond their lives,
- 7:35Speaker 1: beyond the grave. For Diddy's legal use, excuse me, unsanctioned use,
- 7:42Speaker 1: unlicensed use of a sting song, a police song, that's
- 7:46Speaker 1: sting row. It's a staggering amount of money daily. So
- 7:50Speaker 1: just check that out and hit me back and let
- 7:53Speaker 1: me know what you think. All right, So that's Diddy.
- 7:55Speaker 1: That's there now, tomorrow in your feeds or next up
- 7:58Speaker 1: in your feeds, depending on when you're listening to this
- 8:00Speaker 1: bonus episode, We're gonna have a rewind release an episode
- 8:04Speaker 1: from our archive, a previously exclusive episode, an episode that
- 8:08Speaker 1: most of you have not heard on the great motown
- 8:11Speaker 1: group The Temptations, UH, one of the greatest groups to
- 8:15Speaker 1: come out of the motown machine. A lot going on
- 8:18Speaker 1: in this episode. What really happened to Marvin Gay's great
- 8:22Speaker 1: duet partner Tammy Terrell, The suspicious death of Paul Williams,
- 8:27Speaker 1: David Ruffin's twenty year battle of cocaine. Make sure you
- 8:30Speaker 1: check that out as well, all right? Six one seven
- 8:33Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight. I'm here if
- 8:35Speaker 1: you want to share with me your favorite motown artists.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Is it the Jackson five, The Jackson's excuse me, wait, no, yeah,
- 8:43Speaker 1: Jackson five, and then the Jackson's, Uh no Jackson's were
- 8:47Speaker 1: ABC Jackson five? Or Motown? Is it Marvin Gay? Is
- 8:50Speaker 1: the Supremes? This is the Temptations? Is it Smokey? Who
- 8:53Speaker 1: is it? The list is endless? Six one seven, nine
- 8:56Speaker 1: oh six six six three eight. To also let me
- 8:58Speaker 1: know what you think of Sean Diddy Combs and what
- 9:00Speaker 1: you think of that episode six one seven nine oh
- 9:03Speaker 1: six six six three eight voicemail Old School and New
- 9:05Speaker 1: School six one seven, nine oh six, six six three
- 9:08Speaker 1: eight text at Disgrace lampod On the socials, including Instagram,
- 9:13Speaker 1: where we got some We got some stuff going on
- 9:15Speaker 1: on Instagram right now like we haven't in a long time.
- 9:19Speaker 1: We seem to have made nice with the algorithm, and uh,
- 9:23Speaker 1: they're promoting the hell out of these new little videos
- 9:25Speaker 1: that we're doing. Which brings me to the point, what
- 9:29Speaker 1: do you guys like most about what we are creating
- 9:33Speaker 1: for you? To me, when I think about the content
- 9:37Speaker 1: that you guys most share and you get most excited about, it's, uh,
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's you know, obviously this content about these you know,
- 9:45Speaker 1: larger than life personalities. But that's too broad. Specifically, what
- 9:49Speaker 1: I think it is is these holy shit learning moments. Uh,
- 9:54Speaker 1: Blondie being abducted by Ted Bundy, how Michael Hutchins actually died,
- 10:00Speaker 1: the Jane's Addictions. I did this little Jan's Addiction video
- 10:04Speaker 1: on Instagram. It's about Connie Navarro, Dave Navarro's mom, And
- 10:09Speaker 1: in like a week it's had three hundred thousand views,
- 10:12Speaker 1: and we're picking up a ton of new followers. And
- 10:15Speaker 1: if you're new to this show, thank you, thank you
- 10:18Speaker 1: for being here. But again, this is all telling me
- 10:21Speaker 1: that what you guys want, you know, what you like
- 10:25Speaker 1: most about the actual podcast stories, and if I can
- 10:28Speaker 1: extract from that and extend to you know, Instagram and
- 10:33Speaker 1: x and YouTube and TikTok, it's these these holy shit
- 10:38Speaker 1: learning moments. Oh my god, I did not know that.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I did not know that about Blondie and Ted Bondie.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I did not know that about how Michael Hutchins actually died.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I did not know that about Dave Navarro from Jane's Addiction.
- 10:47Speaker 1: And they're all kind of dark stories. And the other
- 10:50Speaker 1: thing it appears to me, it seems to me that
- 10:52Speaker 1: you guys dig on is these this sort of shock
- 10:55Speaker 1: and horror of some of these stories. Obviously the Big
- 11:01Speaker 1: Lurch one comes to mind, but even in this Diddy episode,
- 11:04Speaker 1: just the shock of all these settled suits, the allegations
- 11:10Speaker 1: that we might not know about. We know about the
- 11:12Speaker 1: recent ones, but we might not know about his past
- 11:14Speaker 1: violent history. And then of course there's the tributes, the sendoffs,
- 11:19Speaker 1: the parts of the episodes where I like to sort
- 11:23Speaker 1: of lean into the heart side of it and what
- 11:26Speaker 1: I related to most to these subjects, how I related
- 11:29Speaker 1: to the most excuse me as artists and what they
- 11:34Speaker 1: brought into the world, and what has sort of singed
- 11:37Speaker 1: me and left a mark. Those tributes seem to resonate
- 11:41Speaker 1: with you guys as well. So my point where I'm
- 11:43Speaker 1: going with all this is if you're new here, if
- 11:46Speaker 1: you're old here, if you've been here, if you've been
- 11:49Speaker 1: with me since the beginning of Disgraceland, or like I said,
- 11:53Speaker 1: if you just found us a couple of days ago.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I want to know what you guys want from us,
- 11:57Speaker 1: what you most respond to six months in nine oh six, six, six,
- 12:01Speaker 1: three eight, The is it the holy shit learning moments?
- 12:04Speaker 3: Is it?
- 12:04Speaker 1: The shock? Is it? The horror? Is it the tributes?
- 12:06Speaker 1: Is it something else. Let me know at disgracelam pod.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Hit us up on Instagram, follow us there. We're growing fast.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I'm doing these daily videos over there. We're also on TikTok.
- 12:17Speaker 1: We'll be growing over there as well. YouTube x. We
- 12:21Speaker 1: are everywhere, and of course we are right here. Six
- 12:24Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight voicemail
- 12:27Speaker 1: and text and email disgrace lampod at gmail dot com.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Let's do an email right now from Melissa Moon. Subject
- 12:37Speaker 1: is episode suggestion message. This may not be the appropriate
- 12:41Speaker 1: avenue or even something you guys do, but I love
- 12:43Speaker 1: the podcast. I love the way the stories are delivered.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Jake's voice is custom made for narration. The podcast is
- 12:49Speaker 1: sleek and sexy. Hey there, and I recommend it to
- 12:51Speaker 1: basically everyone I meet. You may have received this suggestion
- 12:55Speaker 1: previously or just vetoted it outright, but I would love
- 12:58Speaker 1: to see an episode on my favorite band, my Chemical Romance.
- 13:01Speaker 1: The band has an interesting story, from Gerard being robbed
- 13:04Speaker 1: at gunpoint while working in a comic bookstore to nine
- 13:07Speaker 1: to eleven leading to the band's formation. I think you
- 13:09Speaker 1: guys should do it justice. Thanks for always entertaining the
- 13:12Speaker 1: way only you can. Melissa that's a great suggestion. I
- 13:17Speaker 1: didn't know. I don't know much about my chemical romance,
- 13:20Speaker 1: but hey, I'm here for it, and I dig it
- 13:23Speaker 1: and we're going to look into it, all right. Thank
- 13:25Speaker 1: you appreciate the email. Let's do this one here from
- 13:29Speaker 1: Jason Bain, who writes in subject is the Writer's Almanac Messages,
- 13:34Speaker 1: Dear mister Jake Burnan, Hello Jake. I'm a huge fan
- 13:37Speaker 1: of the show since episode one. I decided to write
- 13:40Speaker 1: you today out of sheer anger and frustration. I'm at
- 13:43Speaker 1: my construction job on a cold New England day, and
- 13:45Speaker 1: I forgot my ear pods. How am I supposed to
- 13:48Speaker 1: drown out the sound of heavy machinery and old man grunts.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I'm truly missing the sweet sounds of your voice describing
- 13:53Speaker 1: a person having a much worse day than mine in
- 13:56Speaker 1: a beautifully eloquent manner. But I digress. My real reason
- 13:58Speaker 1: for writing is because I need some advice, any possible mentorship.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I've been working on my own narrated podcast for a
- 14:05Speaker 1: few years and it's fucking hard.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Man.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I'm really struggling. Not with the technology either. I'm a
- 14:10Speaker 1: music producer, drummer, engineer with my own studio gear and studio.
- 14:13Speaker 1: I'm very able. I just dislike my own voice and writing.
- 14:16Speaker 1: It's not terrible, it's just meh. But I've also never
- 14:19Speaker 1: played it for anyone or mentioned this project to anyone.
- 14:21Speaker 1: The podcast is called Writer's Almanac. It's a narrated series
- 14:25Speaker 1: about snowboarding. All right, I'm gonna go on here. He says.
- 14:28Speaker 1: It's definitely inspired by Disgrace Slam It with a different flavor.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I've two episodes fleshed out, tons of ideas and future
- 14:36Speaker 1: episode planning. Sure you're really busy, but this is something
- 14:38Speaker 1: you could help me with. Any advice or contribution would
- 14:40Speaker 1: be extremely helpful. Well, here's my advice. Keep making shit,
- 14:45Speaker 1: don't stop, don't stop and play it for people. Just
- 14:49Speaker 1: keep going. You can release it into the world or not.
- 14:52Speaker 1: But my advice would be to make it and put
- 14:55Speaker 1: it out in the world, or get it to a
- 14:57Speaker 1: point where you're happy to put it out into the world,
- 14:59Speaker 1: and up into that point, play for as many people
- 15:01Speaker 1: that you trust as possible. Could be one, two, three, five, ten, twenty.
- 15:04Speaker 1: However many get feedback. Trust your gut and keep doing
- 15:09Speaker 1: the thing. That's the key. And as for the sound
- 15:12Speaker 1: of your voice. I hate the sound of my voice.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I always have And if you're doing a narrative podcast
- 15:18Speaker 1: like mine, you have to find a way to not
- 15:21Speaker 1: just speak but narrate, and you're not gonna like it.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I went through many iterations of recording demos and playing
- 15:29Speaker 1: them for people that I trusted, my wife in particular,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and being very frustrated, just like it sounds like you
- 15:34Speaker 1: are with her, just being like, you sound like an asshole.
- 15:38Speaker 1: And I'm not so sure I still don't sound like
- 15:40Speaker 1: an asshole. But whatever it works. You're not supposed to
- 15:43Speaker 1: sound like you. You're supposed to sound like the thing you're creating,
- 15:47Speaker 1: and you're supposed to put it out into the world
- 15:49Speaker 1: a version of you. That's all it is. And again,
- 15:53Speaker 1: to get over the frustration hump, you gotta just keep
- 15:56Speaker 1: keep doing it. That's all I got for you, man.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Hopefully it works out. Keep me posted six one seven
- 16:01Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight or disgrace lampod
- 16:04Speaker 1: at gmail dot com. I see a ton more emails.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Maybe I'll answer some on on Instagram. Looks like we
- 16:11Speaker 1: picked up a lot of new followers new listeners over
- 16:14Speaker 1: the last week. Keep up the communication. If you're new here.
- 16:18Speaker 1: You know, I try to do my best to engage
- 16:20Speaker 1: with you guys as much as possible. Uh here in
- 16:23Speaker 1: the bonus episodes, on Instagram, on Twitter, elsewhere, uh and yeah,
- 16:29Speaker 1: on phone and on text. So hit me and take
- 16:32Speaker 1: a quick break back in the flash, some voicemails and
- 16:35Speaker 1: some text from you guys. All right, we are back.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Let's do some voicemails. Let's get right into it with
- 17:00Speaker 1: this one from the three to one oer.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Hey Jay, this is Eric three one zero. I left
- 17:05Speaker 3: you a prior message I think it was a couple
- 17:08Speaker 3: of months ago about meeting Prince. This is about a
- 17:11Speaker 3: real disgraceful situation. I don't know about the if you're
- 17:15Speaker 3: familiar with the story of the Coasters, but two of
- 17:17Speaker 3: the members of the Coasters were assassinated. One was shot
- 17:21Speaker 3: in the head and the other one was assault with
- 17:24Speaker 3: a gun. A gay man who was murdered lead singer
- 17:29Speaker 3: of the Coasters, up of the band in the fifties
- 17:32Speaker 3: of two victims of violence, separate incidences worth looking at
- 17:38Speaker 3: this to the tip.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Hey Eric, thanks for the voicemail.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Man.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I did not know this about the Coasters, and it
- 17:45Speaker 1: sounds like a really messed up situation and got two
- 17:49Speaker 1: two band members group members shot. That's just fucking crazy.
- 17:55Speaker 1: So I think we are going to get into that.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I am deep in at the moment, however, into researching
- 18:01Speaker 1: Anthony Bourdain. Not a music subject, not a bad Lands subject,
- 18:08Speaker 1: just a iconic name out in the world, subject whom
- 18:12Speaker 1: I love that I want to cover in future. So
- 18:15Speaker 1: I'm doing that. I'm deep into it right now. Eric,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I hope you dig it, whether you're a Boardain fan
- 18:20Speaker 1: or not. Maybe we'll get into this coasters thing sooner
- 18:22Speaker 1: or later. I bet we will. We're always in need
- 18:24Speaker 1: of material. And yeah, guys, we talked about combining the
- 18:29Speaker 1: feeds a couple of weeks ago or last episode. I
- 18:31Speaker 1: guess it's been an ongoing conversation. I haven't I haven't
- 18:34Speaker 1: made a firm decision yet, but like I said, I'm
- 18:38Speaker 1: researching this board Ain episode, and I don't think it's
- 18:41Speaker 1: going to be in bad Lands. I think it's gonna
- 18:43Speaker 1: be our own thing. And I've got a Hunter S
- 18:46Speaker 1: Thompson hankering and William S Burrow's hankering as well. And
- 18:51Speaker 1: it feels like it feels like Disgraceland is going to
- 18:56Speaker 1: expand slightly beyond just specific music stories into stories that
- 19:03Speaker 1: are just dark stories about icons really like we've been doing.
- 19:09Speaker 1: But I think if we do do this, I'm going
- 19:12Speaker 1: to keep it very musical. Anthony Bourdin, you know, even
- 19:15Speaker 1: though he was a chef and you know, had a
- 19:18Speaker 1: travel television show, was a writer, wrote books, very rock
- 19:22Speaker 1: and roll type of guy. Same with Burrows, same with
- 19:24Speaker 1: Hunter S. Thompson, you know. And even when I think
- 19:27Speaker 1: of large, larger than life figures like who are athletes,
- 19:34Speaker 1: you know, like Michael Jordan, It's very easy for me
- 19:37Speaker 1: to relate what Michael Jordan does and the quote unquote
- 19:41Speaker 1: art of what he does to music and to culture.
- 19:46Speaker 1: And I think, you know, were we or slash, you know,
- 19:50Speaker 1: are we to go into that? And in that direction,
- 19:54Speaker 1: that's that's likely the tact we will take with the
- 19:57Speaker 1: non music stories. We will keep them musical, and I'm
- 20:01Speaker 1: really just interested in the darkness that drives some of
- 20:05Speaker 1: these folks from whatever discipline, and everything will stay music focused.
- 20:09Speaker 1: It will largely be, you know, on average, more music
- 20:12Speaker 1: stories than not. But that's where we're going.
- 20:15Speaker 4: You know.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I don't know how I got from the coasters to
- 20:18Speaker 1: Anthony Boarding to Michael Jordan. But see, we can do this.
- 20:21Speaker 1: All right, Let's do another voicemail here, all right, this
- 20:24Speaker 1: one from the Netherlands. Let's check out this voicemail right here.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Hey there, greetings from the Netherlands. Big fan of the podcast.
- 20:32Speaker 4: I was actually curious if you should ever do an
- 20:37Speaker 4: episode on James Taylor because he had a very interesting career.
- 20:41Speaker 4: I'm a big fan of his, has been a big
- 20:43Speaker 4: fan most of my life thanks to my father and
- 20:47Speaker 4: history of substance use disorder, and has pretty much come
- 20:50Speaker 4: out on top to be a pre successful chill guy. Anyways,
- 20:53Speaker 4: that's all, take care and have a great day.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Yo. Thanks for the call. Appreciate it. Yeah, I was
- 21:00Speaker 1: actually thinking I was thinking about doing a James Taylor episode.
- 21:02Speaker 1: The other night I was watching TV. I watched these
- 21:05Speaker 1: really awful music video channels on the Samsung cable TV
- 21:11Speaker 1: thing or whatever on demand whatever it's called. And I've
- 21:15Speaker 1: talked about that before, but James Taylor came on and
- 21:18Speaker 1: it was a vintage seventies live thing and I was like, God,
- 21:23Speaker 1: there is a story here. I know there's a story.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I know there's the whole thing with the heroin abuse
- 21:28Speaker 1: and he's a fascinating guy and people love him and
- 21:31Speaker 1: he's a huge name, so yeah, at some point and
- 21:36Speaker 1: also doing an episode on him will will give me
- 21:39Speaker 1: the opportunity to tell my James Taylor story. Being from Boston,
- 21:44Speaker 1: it's hard not to have a James Taylor story. And
- 21:47Speaker 1: I don't want to burn it here because it's a
- 21:49Speaker 1: good one. But yeah, Zeth, if you're listening, I think
- 21:52Speaker 1: we put James Taylor on the schedule for end the
- 21:55Speaker 1: next year as we're figuring out our programming here, all right,
- 21:59Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight, Hit me
- 22:02Speaker 1: with your voicemails, hit me with your texts. Let's do
- 22:04Speaker 1: a couple of texts here. Five oh five rights in Hey,
- 22:07Speaker 1: I drove Parliament Funkadelic around for three days. There were
- 22:10Speaker 1: fucking nuts. Keith Richards says nothing on them. George Clinton
- 22:14Speaker 1: had his own limo. Damn it. All right? All right?
- 22:17Speaker 1: Are you are you saying we should do a Parliament episode?
- 22:20Speaker 1: I'm here for that for sure. Nine oh one writes
- 22:23Speaker 1: in Lee from Memphis. Loved the Jan's Addiction episode. First
- 22:26Speaker 1: song I ever heard of theirs was Jane says, maybe
- 22:29Speaker 1: the best two chord songs ever. Prove me wrong. That's
- 22:33Speaker 1: that's interesting. What are the best two chord songs? You
- 22:38Speaker 1: can't say Louis Louis, that's three chords. You keep two chords,
- 22:42Speaker 1: and you really really really shortening, shortening the length of
- 22:46Speaker 1: the pool. As they say, do people say that. I
- 22:48Speaker 1: don't think they say that nine on one goes. Honestly,
- 22:51Speaker 1: you mentioned the Cult. I have to respectfully disagree about
- 22:55Speaker 1: their live performance. Love this band and have seen them
- 22:57Speaker 1: three times live, and they're still going strong and singing
- 23:01Speaker 1: in the original key, unlike many older bands playing about
- 23:04Speaker 1: a half step down. Much love to you, and thanks
- 23:06Speaker 1: for being so accessible. I'm still campaigning for Shannon who
- 23:09Speaker 1: episode Tragic Shannon Whoon. We will do Blind Melon at
- 23:12Speaker 1: some point for sure. Yeah. I don't want to argue
- 23:15Speaker 1: with you about The Cult live because, like I said,
- 23:17Speaker 1: I've only seen them once, and of course talk to
- 23:19Speaker 1: people who have seen them as well. I know they
- 23:21Speaker 1: played recently. I had some friends who saw them in
- 23:24Speaker 1: Los Angeles, and I saw some of the Instagram videos
- 23:27Speaker 1: that were going around, and it looked fucking incredible. What
- 23:31Speaker 1: I'm talking about, however, is just back in the day,
- 23:33Speaker 1: and I'm talking about my experience subjectively, so I hope
- 23:36Speaker 1: you're right. I hope they're great live because they're a
- 23:39Speaker 1: great fucking band, and I want them to be great,
- 23:42Speaker 1: and I want them to be out there spreading the love.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Five three zero Rights and Hey Jake Zach from five
- 23:47Speaker 1: to three to zero. I loved the Jans addiction episode,
- 23:50Speaker 1: having been in early teen. In the early nineties, Ben
- 23:52Speaker 1: Caught Stealing was always on MTV. You couldn't miss it.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Video is creepy gave me weird vibes a couple ideas
- 23:58Speaker 1: for a new episode. Right and Shine a menu recipe
- 24:02Speaker 1: inspired shorts in the morning, afternoons or evenings which focus
- 24:05Speaker 1: on food. Who doesn't like food example Elvis sandwich, peanut butter,
- 24:10Speaker 1: bacon and banana.
- 24:11Speaker 3: I don't.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I can't do a food podcast. I appreciate the creativity,
- 24:18Speaker 1: but that ain't me. I did do. I did do.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I guested on a podcast about Elvis's million dollars sandwich
- 24:25Speaker 1: with the Midland guys. You can find that The Countryman
- 24:27Speaker 1: Midlands has a podcast. Some great guests, Matthew McConaughey, Sheryl
- 24:33Speaker 1: Crow and I jumped on It's all about busting these myths,
- 24:37Speaker 1: and I talked about Elvis and the I think it's
- 24:39Speaker 1: called a million dollar sandwich. Six three All rights and
- 24:43Speaker 1: hey Jake, longtime listener both Disgraceland and bad Lands. My
- 24:46Speaker 1: favorite so far has been Jerry le Lewis. Just finished
- 24:48Speaker 1: the Jane's Addiction episode and the Bonus episode. On a
- 24:51Speaker 1: separate note, I would love it if you consider doing
- 24:54Speaker 1: a sports true crime podcast. Well, and then he goes
- 24:58Speaker 1: on to mention Lawrence Taylor, OJ, Michael Irving, Frank Frank
- 25:03Speaker 1: from the six to three to oh listen, dude, we
- 25:05Speaker 1: fucked with this a little bit with a thing called
- 25:07Speaker 1: sports Land, and we had those sports episodes. We have
- 25:10Speaker 1: them actually in the bad Lands episode in the bad
- 25:13Speaker 1: Lands Feed excuse me. We have episodes on as you mentioned,
- 25:17Speaker 1: Lawrence Taylor and OJ Simpson and a bunch of others,
- 25:20Speaker 1: Pete rose Ty Cobb. We did a whole thing on
- 25:25Speaker 1: European soccer, a whole season on European soccer, Oscar Pistorius,
- 25:30Speaker 1: Aaron Hernandez, and like I said earlier, I think we're
- 25:34Speaker 1: going to start messing around with I'm thinking of doing
- 25:37Speaker 1: a Kobe Bryant episode. More about the well, I really
- 25:42Speaker 1: don't know. Actually, I need to do more research on it,
- 25:45Speaker 1: but I have an idea on an angle. So yeah,
- 25:47Speaker 1: I think for some of the more iconic sports stars
- 25:51Speaker 1: who've have dark stories associated with them, we will be
- 25:55Speaker 1: covering that here in the Disgraceland feed. But in the meantime,
- 25:58Speaker 1: check out bad Land subscribe there, go back the archive
- 26:00Speaker 1: and you'll find those episodes you're asking for Lawrence Taylor
- 26:03Speaker 1: and others. All right, all right, this bonus episode is
- 26:06Speaker 1: already getting long. I'm going to take a quick break.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Six one seven nine oh six six six three eight.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I'll be back in the flash.
- 26:27Speaker 1: All right, we are back. Thanks for being with us
- 26:30Speaker 1: here in this bonus episode. Do a little recommendations here.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I've been doing this, you know, trying to recommend music
- 26:39Speaker 1: and trying to do it. As you know, I get
- 26:40Speaker 1: into the booth here, my head just goes all blue
- 26:42Speaker 1: and I forget what I'm listening to, what I've been
- 26:44Speaker 1: listening to. So what we've been doing lately is just
- 26:46Speaker 1: I've been going into my Spotify history for the last
- 26:48Speaker 1: week and and just regurgitating here what I've been up to,
- 26:52Speaker 1: what I've been listening to, as a way to kind
- 26:54Speaker 1: of keep track of this. Vince GERALDI you all know
- 26:57Speaker 1: him as the musician who did the Charlie Brown Stuff,
- 27:00Speaker 1: and some of you probably know that he had his
- 27:03Speaker 1: own trio and he made his own music and it's
- 27:06Speaker 1: fucking fantastic, and you need to check out the Vince
- 27:09Speaker 1: Geraldi trio. You will go way beyond the Peanuts and
- 27:12Speaker 1: the Charlie brown Stuff and it's a good sort of
- 27:16Speaker 1: non Christmas Christmas vibe. Okay. I've been digging on classic
- 27:20Speaker 1: Christmas songs so far, all right, the Bing Crosbies of
- 27:23Speaker 1: the world, the Ella FitzGeralds of the world. As we
- 27:27Speaker 1: get closer to the big Day, I'm gonna seg into
- 27:30Speaker 1: sort of the more alternative stuff coming to mind immediately,
- 27:35Speaker 1: all the sort of great garage Christmas songs, the nineties,
- 27:40Speaker 1: sort of weirdo shit like Low all that going to
- 27:43Speaker 1: get into it. I am still digging on the New
- 27:47Speaker 1: Queens of the Stone Age record in Times New Roman.
- 27:50Speaker 1: The more I listen to it, the more I love it.
- 27:52Speaker 1: If you haven't heard this record in your fan of
- 27:54Speaker 1: rock and roll, check that out. Something happened to me
- 27:57Speaker 1: last night that musically, I love when this happens. I
- 28:01Speaker 1: love when I hear a song. I was just on
- 28:05Speaker 1: Instagram and this guy Johnny Johnny Vinyl who who's a
- 28:10Speaker 1: fan of the show. Here dis Gray sand who I
- 28:12Speaker 1: talk with a bit on Instagram. He just posted this
- 28:16Speaker 1: video of himself, sorry, of his record player playing Dark
- 28:21Speaker 1: Side of the Moon. And it's just, you know, you know,
- 28:24Speaker 1: the audio wasn't great, and the video wasn't you know,
- 28:28Speaker 1: It's just what I said it was. But the music
- 28:32Speaker 1: is so fucking good and the production is so good.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I just found it to be arresting. It just it
- 28:37Speaker 1: just smacked me in the face. And I've heard this
- 28:40Speaker 1: so many times before, you know, does this happen to
- 28:43Speaker 1: you guys? It must, it must happen to you where
- 28:45Speaker 1: you just hear this thing, you've heard a gazillion times.
- 28:47Speaker 1: You don't even think about it anymore. It's become so
- 28:49Speaker 1: rote and it just knocks your socks off. And that's
- 28:52Speaker 1: what Dark Side of the Moon did to me last
- 28:56Speaker 1: night and will probably continue to do for me throughout
- 29:00Speaker 1: the rest.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Of my life.
- 29:01Speaker 1: It's that good of an album. Johnny had some good
- 29:04Speaker 1: stats on it, by the way, It's something like nine
- 29:07Speaker 1: hundred weeks on the Billboard, two hundred. It's the number four,
- 29:11Speaker 1: I believe, number four top selling album of all time.
- 29:15Speaker 1: If that's true, that is phenomenal. So needless to say,
- 29:19Speaker 1: I don't need you, don't need anyone to recommend Pink
- 29:22Speaker 1: Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon to you. But here
- 29:26Speaker 1: I am doing it anyways because it's authentic and it happened,
- 29:30Speaker 1: and there you go. Also, if I can be self promoted,
- 29:35Speaker 1: I am going to for just one moment here, parents, Okay, parents,
- 29:38Speaker 1: we have this new show that Double Elvis just produced
- 29:40Speaker 1: with our partners Stargo Media. It's a kids show. Our
- 29:45Speaker 1: friend Nikki Lynette, who if you guys are fans of
- 29:48Speaker 1: the show about a Girl, she hosts this new kids
- 29:52Speaker 1: show we have called music Land Stories. And this is
- 29:56Speaker 1: for the parents out there who are music fans who
- 30:00Speaker 1: are looking for content, podcast content for their kids. Trust me,
- 30:04Speaker 1: this is for you. Go find it. It's available everywhere.
- 30:07Speaker 1: We got two episodes up now, got more coming. Search
- 30:10Speaker 1: that out you will not be disappointed. Six one, seven,
- 30:14Speaker 1: nine oh six sixty six three eight real Quick. This
- 30:16Speaker 1: week tomorrow our rewind episode is on the Temptations. This
- 30:20Speaker 1: was originally released by US on May thirty first, twenty
- 30:23Speaker 1: twenty two, as part of Season nine. We described it
- 30:26Speaker 1: then as the following. The Temptations were one of Motown's
- 30:29Speaker 1: signature vocal groups, and they remain one of the most
- 30:31Speaker 1: successful R and B acts of all time, but fame
- 30:34Speaker 1: and drugs corrupted them from the beginning. Lineup changes were
- 30:37Speaker 1: as frequent as their chart topping hits, and eventually their
- 30:40Speaker 1: rocky road led to drug addiction, crippling, paranoia or routine backstabbing,
- 30:44Speaker 1: and one of the most tragic deaths in the history
- 30:46Speaker 1: of the Motor City. Timeline wise, we're doing this because
- 30:49Speaker 1: the Temptations member Eddie Kendricks was born on December seventeenth,
- 30:53Speaker 1: nineteen thirty nine, and we're releasing this episode on December fourteenth,
- 30:58Speaker 1: so pretty close. Also, you know, if you need another recommendation,
- 31:02Speaker 1: Eddie Kendrick's nineteen seventy two solo album People Hold On.
- 31:06Speaker 1: It's fucking awesome, So check that out, all right? Six
- 31:09Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight. Here
- 31:12Speaker 1: are some questions that I would like some answers from
- 31:15Speaker 1: you guys on frankly, all right, what is your favorite
- 31:19Speaker 1: Motown group of all time? Okay, speaking of Motown, speaking
- 31:23Speaker 1: of great record labels, what's your favorite record label of
- 31:27Speaker 1: all time? Okay, the label where it didn't matter what
- 31:30Speaker 1: they put out, you were buying it. When I was
- 31:32Speaker 1: growing up, that was Revelation Records. Uh, it was Discord Records.
- 31:37Speaker 1: For a moment, it was Victory Records, a label that
- 31:39Speaker 1: my band actually ended up on, which was a huge
- 31:41Speaker 1: thrill for us. But when we were kids, we just
- 31:44Speaker 1: had these record labels that we would buy and it
- 31:46Speaker 1: didn't matter. It did not matter what they put out,
- 31:48Speaker 1: we were going to buy it. Also, do you want
- 31:51Speaker 1: a Disgrace Line Vinyl? What will we put on the
- 31:53Speaker 1: Disgrace Line record? What would it be? And would you
- 31:55Speaker 1: buy it? Would you? I would? I have some ideas.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Six one seven nine six six six three eight. Let
- 32:01Speaker 1: me know what you think, Let me know what your
- 32:02Speaker 1: favorite record labels are. Let me know what your favorite
- 32:04Speaker 1: motown artist is. Let me know what you would want
- 32:07Speaker 1: out of Disgraceland Vinyl. And finally, Christmas Rex give me
- 32:12Speaker 1: the Christmas music that you guys get most pumped on.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Six one seven, nine oh six sixty six three eight.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Favorite artists are your old school classic Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald?
- 32:21Speaker 1: Do you realm into the new school? What are the
- 32:24Speaker 1: Christmas songs that pull at your heartstring six one seven
