- 0:00Speaker 1: Concerning news this morning, Lisa.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Concerning. Very alarming.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Catastrophic.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Well, have you sort of stopped to look at the
- 0:08Speaker 3: price of chocolate recently in the shops? Yes, I have.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Sometimes it's on special and you go, I'll dive in.
- 0:16Speaker 1: But overall, yes, I have noticed a trend.
- 0:20Speaker 2: There certainly has been.
- 0:22Speaker 3: It was, you know, it was always something that just,
- 0:23Speaker 3: you know, you put it in your trolley as you went.
- 0:25Speaker 2: But recently it has caught my eye.
- 0:28Speaker 1: The weaker ones do that, yes.
- 0:29Speaker 2: How much it costs.
- 0:30Speaker 3: I mean, I've seen it cost, you know, $ 9 or
- 0:32Speaker 3: $ 10 for a block.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:34Speaker 3: As you said, you've got to keep your eye on
- 0:37Speaker 3: the ones on sale. But I don't want a fruit
- 0:39Speaker 3: and nut.
- 0:41Speaker 1: No.
- 0:41Speaker 2: They always seem to be on sale.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I want a Marvelous Creations.
- 0:45Speaker 1: No, see, I don't. No? I want chocolate. You want,
- 0:48Speaker 1: what do you mean? I won't even take a top deck.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I won't even take.
- 0:52Speaker 3: So when you say you want chocolate but you won't
- 0:54Speaker 3: have a top deck, what do you call a top deck?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Some kind of novelty chocolate?
- 0:57Speaker 1: Well, it's chocolate with some sort of white stuff all
- 0:59Speaker 1: over the top of it. I don't like it.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that is also chocolate. It is... White does... It
- 1:03Speaker 2: is classified as chocolate. Not in my book.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Anyway... I love white chocolate. Anyway, that's neither here nor...
- 1:08Speaker 3: What about a peppermint?
- 1:10Speaker 1: No.
- 1:11Speaker 2: You don't like peppermint inside your chocolate.
- 1:13Speaker 1: No, I don't.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Just plain chocolate.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I want chocolate.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Cadbury, lint, any preference?
- 1:18Speaker 1: Well, now, lint. I do like lint.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I had some lint last night, and that had soft
- 1:23Speaker 3: stuff in the middle.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Is that okay?
- 1:26Speaker 1: As long as it's chocolate.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Well, yes, it is chocolate.
- 1:29Speaker 1: One thing I've noticed, on lint, I used to buy
- 1:32Speaker 1: lint when it was on special, right? Yes, yes. But
- 1:34Speaker 1: what I have noticed over the last little while is
- 1:37Speaker 1: that when it's on special now, it's back to the
- 1:40Speaker 1: price that it would be when I wouldn't buy it
- 1:42Speaker 1: because it wasn't on special.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yes, that's how they get you. I do like a
- 1:46Speaker 2: lint ball, and I like a moment alone with my
- 1:48Speaker 2: lint ball.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Oh, I like a lint ball, as long as it's
- 1:50Speaker 1: got chocolate in it.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Exactly. Anyway, we digress, though.
- 1:54Speaker 3: The point is it's not getting any cheaper anytime soon,
- 1:58Speaker 3: and the reason is apparently a combination of weather events
- 2:03Speaker 3: and a virus affecting some cocoa crops, creating global supply issues.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Has it escaped from a lab?
- 2:09Speaker 2: This is what they're telling us. Anyway, yes, exactly. It
- 2:11Speaker 2: got bitten by a bat. I don't know. What is
- 2:15Speaker 2: going on?
- 2:16Speaker 3: But this is not good because chocolate is a non-negotiable
- 2:19Speaker 3: mood lifter for Australians.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Well, it's one of the staples, isn't it? You know, milk, flour, eggs, chocolate.
- 2:27Speaker 2: It is a staple in our house. It 100% is.
- 2:31Speaker 2: You've got to have something. You've got to have a vice.
- 2:33Speaker 1: There are the essentials in life and chocolate's one of them.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Now, for those people that are, you know, like fitness
- 2:39Speaker 3: fanatics and stuff that don't eat a chocolate and are
- 2:41Speaker 3: sitting back there going, oh, well, well, guess what?
- 2:44Speaker 2: Protein shakes could be next.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yeah, true.
- 2:47Speaker 2: To suffer.
- 2:48Speaker 1: But, you know, eat a steak and some raw eggs.
- 2:51Speaker 2: It's also been increasing in price. Whey, that is.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 2: The stuff that, you know, the little Miss Muffet. Whey,
- 2:58Speaker 2: a by-product of cheese making.
- 3:00Speaker 1: That's my favourite brand of protein shake, by the way.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Little Miss Muffet.
- 3:02Speaker 1: A little jar, a little bottle of Miss Muffet. With
- 3:06Speaker 1: a spider.
- 3:07Speaker 2: It's been increasing in price.
- 3:09Speaker 3: It's high in protein and has become popular as a
- 3:11Speaker 3: supplement to build muscle. Whey can be found in shakes
- 3:15Speaker 3: as well as a range of other foods like milk
- 3:17Speaker 3: and cheese and yoghurt. and the booming demand for the
- 3:21Speaker 3: product has driven the price hike. So it's not just chocolate.
- 3:25Speaker 1: This cost of living crisis knows no end.
- 3:27Speaker 2: It does. It knows no end.
- 3:30Speaker 1: By the way, Lisa, I've got a little gift for you.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Oh, you've got a Freddo.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I've got a little Freddo frog. It's just a little one.
- 3:36Speaker 2: What's it going to set me back?
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it's... It's one of the little ones, not one
- 3:40Speaker 1: of the big ones.
- 3:40Speaker 2: It's not a top deck one, is it?
- 3:42Speaker 1: No, it's just a little small milk chocolate. Just one
- 3:45Speaker 1: of the little baby ones. I mean, I've still got
- 3:47Speaker 1: a couple of kids to put through school.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Awesome. I won't afford any more of that.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, haven't they? He's gotten smaller. Oh, my gosh.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Smaller yet more expensive. Yes.
