- Greg: Hey, good morning guys and welcome to the show. It is Friday, May the 15th. I'm your host, Greg Miller, and you have reached beliefs, ballots, and bets. Let's get into the word of the day. It's from the apostle Paul writing to in Philippians chapter four, verses six and seven. Paul says, do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and petition with Thanksgiving, present your request to God. and the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. I can tell you prayer is simply to me one of the most powerful things in the world. And it's a practice that when used correctly and when paired with a legitimate relationship with our loving God, prayer is a practice that can help you turn anxiety into what I kind of reference as a guarded piece. Obviously, you don't just totally let go of anything, but it can give you a sense of peace that otherwise you won't find. You know, sometimes we have a habit of treating prayer more like a troubleshooting or diagnostic tools when some of life's problems get a little too big for us to handle. But Paul is inviting us here to, in a continual and thankful manner, come to God with the request, anything that you've got going on in your life, come to him regularly so that his peace can stand watch. And what God is saying, or what Paul is telling us here in this passage is, It's simply that a pattern of habitual prayer can somewhat interrupt anxiety before anxiety swallows your day or swallows your week or swallows your whole life. You know, some of the things that in prayer, especially for some of us who may have come to Jesus a little later in life, it's not always natural, but here's some things you can work on to just create some of these habits. Create them as habits first and then the purity and the more naturalness of it will tend to take over over time. Open your day every morning. Open your day with one honest sentence to God. Just share something with him and then lay on him one worry, one burden, one thing you're going through that you would like to lean on him for help and guidance. And then one thanks, one simple thank you for this blessing, one element of gratitude. Do it every morning and then before bed. Before you go to sleep at night, list one way God showed up in something that you were dealing with that day and give him thanks for that. And as you showed that appreciation, hand something else over to him. Say, hey, God, this is something else I'm working with, and I trust you with this. This will close your day under an element of God's peace. And over the long haul, this will train you to trust him more as you let go overnight, go to sleep, and then you get up the next morning and you start the day over again. as we matriculate throughout the day and our attention is constantly auctioned off to different apps and alerts and whatever else this world is throwing at us consistently throughout the day. And this continuously adds to our anxiety. And when our anxiety grows, we get off track. We don't think as clearly. Anxiety tends to manifest itself and grow. when we try to multitask in our souls, when we simply try to give our full emotional attention to more things than we can handle. And I'm telling you, a pattern of regular and routine short prayers throughout the day can help resist this piling up and resist this over flooding in the market of anxiety. It will help you resist the constant stimulation that is often drawn out of you by the... way the world operates. And what it allows you to do is to kind of throughout your, no matter how crazy your day is, and this is something I simply can't recommend enough, it just gives you an opportunity to take small but repeated exits into God's peace. And that's a peace that only he can provide. And if you step out of our world and you step out of our craziness enough times throughout the day and enter his peace and enter a conversation with him that soothes you and calms you, It can only help you out. I promise you it is. It is a piece that only he can provide and the only way you're going to find it is getting into prayer and getting into regular routine conversations with him. All right guys, onto the plays of the day. Had a good day yesterday. ⁓ Bounced back after our one and two Wednesday went two and one yesterday. That puts us up on the week a little bit. We've got four plays today. We've got two baseball plays, two basketball plays. We just started in the MLB. We've got the Texas Rangers at the Houston Astros. Give me the Astros at home minus 110. We've got the Philadelphia Phillies at the Pittsburgh Pirates. Give me the Pirates minus 130. Then we got the two NBA players. Give me Detroit and Cleveland. We're to go over the total of 209 and a half. And then in the late NBA game, San Antonio at Minnesota. Give me Minnesota plus the five and a half at home to stay close and keep it interesting. Maybe sneak out a win, but I... think they're fighting for their lives. Give me Minnesota plus the five and a half at home. As we summarize, and I'm gonna share a little bit of this, Paul is sharing with us a very, very powerful piece of wisdom. And this is one of few, a lot of my spiritual journey and theological dives that I'm trying to understand things now haven't taken as whole personally like this one has. But I can assure you from... from absolute first-hand personal experience, absolutely nothing has changed my life or given me a greater sense of peace than having a very, and I do mean very consistent prayer life. I talk to God several times a day as I've shared on this show. I have triggered myself now to, and I'm a clean person, I take two, if not three showers a day. Every shower has a prayer involved. I talk to it all day, every day, and prayer has become my first response to just about anything that overwhelms me. It wasn't natural. I have trained myself. It's not something that, as for somebody like me, and maybe some of you out there that are listening to this are like me. I came to my faith very late in life. I grew up in a Christian school, grew up with Christian parents. We just didn't go to church regularly and even going through a Christian school, first through 12th grade, it just never took anchor. I just never felt that connection, never felt that relationship despite how much it was presented to me. So it's not easy to get to this point and it's not natural, but if you work at it and you can make it a habit, start talking to him daily and consistently. I'd almost be willing to guarantee that you'll notice a difference. And as someone who also does a little bit of sports wagering, there ain't no guarantees in life but one, and that's him. All right, guys, thank you for tuning in. As always, it's a blessing. If this is in any way beneficial to you or if you just decide, hey, you want to help me out, share this, like it, subscribe, turn on notifications, comment, do whatever you want to do. Let's play, let's have fun. We're all trying to bring people closer to God. And at the end of the day, the Great Commission calls us to make heaven crowded. And that's a little bit of what I'm trying to do. As always guys, in your Bibles, say your prayers, love one another, and tell the truth. God bless.
