- 0:00Speaker 1: 6.7 Light FM. Good morning. It is Jack and Christine.
- 0:03Speaker 2: And I figured I would just ask quickly, you guys
- 0:06Speaker 2: probably have Cubby on the app somewhere.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Where is he?
- 0:09Speaker 2: I mean, I knew he left yesterday, but he must
- 0:11Speaker 2: be en route somewhere, getting close in a plane.
- 0:15Speaker 3: I think he is recovering, right? I'm looking at producer Kristen.
- 0:18Speaker 3: We were texting with him a little bit yesterday because
- 0:22Speaker 3: he could from the plane. So he was saying it's
- 0:24Speaker 3: odd that he left Japan on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
- 0:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 3: And he's arriving in New York on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
- 0:32Speaker 1: In July. Yeah, I know. It's July.
- 0:35Speaker 3: So he moved into the future world with us. So
- 0:38Speaker 3: he's getting some rest today, Jack, and then back tomorrow,
- 0:40Speaker 3: as you know.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I bet. He's crazy. Well, I'll have more time for
- 0:44Speaker 1: the B-E-A-C-H.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Saw some postings from there. Looks mighty comfy. How did
- 0:50Speaker 3: you manage the beach yesterday?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Um, because I didn't do anything else. I didn't even put,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and I know I'm going to get a look from
- 0:57Speaker 1: producer Kristen. I didn't put my dishes in the sink.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I just left.
- 1:04Speaker 3: And you got the look.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I made sure they were in there this morning on
- 1:08Speaker 2: my way out the door, but no, I have a
- 1:10Speaker 2: friend of mine who was, you know, he had a
- 1:12Speaker 2: day off.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I had a day off and a half a day off.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I looked at the weather and I go, it's the
- 1:18Speaker 1: end of August. You've got to do this.
- 1:20Speaker 3: And the weather's been so beautiful.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I love this. It's going to get a little hot
- 1:24Speaker 3: and humid again, right?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Went in the water, swam around.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Which beach was it?
- 1:30Speaker 1: It's a place called the Cow Yard that's only accessible
- 1:33Speaker 1: by boat.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Oh, excuse me.
- 1:37Speaker 1: It's not that fancy.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Were you out in the Hamptons?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yeah, but you watch people flying in their private planes
- 1:43Speaker 2: above you going to the Hamptons.
- 1:45Speaker 1: That's not where their attention is.
- 1:46Speaker 3: We're still jealous.
- 1:47Speaker 5: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 1:50Speaker 5: Next on Light FM.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I need to tell you two things.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Cubby and Christine's.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Two pretty cool things.
- 1:58Speaker 2: All right, Christine, this is a story that I've shared
- 2:00Speaker 2: before when we've done the weekend stuff here, and I
- 2:02Speaker 2: always thought it was pretty cool about Dolly. Um, it
- 2:05Speaker 2: was back in around 1980 when Barry Gibb of the
- 2:08Speaker 2: Bee Gees was producing Kenny Rogers album and they're in
- 2:12Speaker 2: the studio doing one song and Barry's going, I don't know,
- 2:15Speaker 2: there's something wrong here.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And he's going, what do you mean? It's something wrong.
- 2:19Speaker 2: It needs something. And he goes, wait a minute. I
- 2:21Speaker 2: think I know who's down the hall. So he brought
- 2:23Speaker 2: in Dolly Parton and they sang Islands in the Stream together.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Oh, how beautiful.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 1: So I always thought that was kind of cute. She
- 2:31Speaker 1: made it. She did it.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Yeah. That was like one of her last Instagram posts,
- 2:35Speaker 3: by the way, was marking the anniversary of that song.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Really? Oh, I didn't see that.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Just very recently.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Beautiful.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Well, the U.S. Open is underway here in Queens and
- 2:46Speaker 3: a lot of us would like to go and the
- 2:48Speaker 3: tickets have gone crazy. So Mayor Mom Donnie is offering
- 2:53Speaker 3: discounted tickets, 1,000 affordable tickets. We're talking $ 100 a ticket
- 2:59Speaker 3: to the U.S. Open for New York City residents only.
- 3:03Speaker 3: And these will become available at 10 o'clock this morning.
- 3:06Speaker 3: First come, first serve. You need your zip code to
- 3:08Speaker 3: prove that you live in New York City. It's usopen.org
- 3:12Speaker 3: slash NYCTickets. Wow.
- 3:15Speaker 4: So.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Does the food get cheaper, too?
- 3:18Speaker 3: No.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Hello, beautiful.
- 3:20Speaker 5: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Next on Light FM.
- 3:26Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM. Good morning.
- 3:27Speaker 2: It's Jack and Christine to start your day. And, of course,
- 3:30Speaker 2: we're all thinking about and remembering Dolly Parton today. She
- 3:33Speaker 2: is one of those people, Christine, that's interesting. It wasn't
- 3:36Speaker 2: the big songs. It wasn't the movie. It wasn't this, that.
- 3:40Speaker 1: It was everything. It was Dolly Parton. That's why we
- 3:43Speaker 1: knew her and loved her. Generational icon for Dolly Parton.
- 3:46Speaker 1: For sure.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Definitely her beautiful personality, right? Her philanthropy. She just seems lovely.
- 3:51Speaker 1: You talked to her on a Zoom call once, right?
- 3:54Speaker 3: We did. Cubby and I interviewed Dolly Parton. We were
- 3:58Speaker 3: like shaking. We were so excited.
- 4:01Speaker 1: It's Dolly.
- 4:01Speaker 3: But it was, Jack, it was during the pandemic. So
- 4:05Speaker 3: it was via Zoom.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 3: I wish it could have been in person. But, you know, honestly,
- 4:09Speaker 3: it was just like such an honor to talk to her.
- 4:11Speaker 3: And she was so kind to us. It was around
- 4:13Speaker 3: the holidays. She was sitting next to a Christmas tree.
- 4:16Speaker 3: And she was dressed up. She's just wonderful. You could
- 4:19Speaker 3: just feel that wonderful energy from her.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I think everybody that I've known who have interviewed her
- 4:24Speaker 2: or have met her said she is just the most
- 4:26Speaker 2: heartwarming person. Like she's happy to see you, not the
- 4:31Speaker 2: other way around. Like, oh, wow, I've been waiting all
- 4:33Speaker 2: my life for this interview, and I'm glad we're sitting
- 4:35Speaker 2: to talk.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Yeah. So you'll see flags are at half-staff across the
- 4:39Speaker 3: country because the president asked for that in her honor
- 4:42Speaker 3: in the Empire State Building event. was lit up in
- 4:44Speaker 3: pink sparkles last night. And there's Dolly, the musical, coming
- 4:48Speaker 3: to Broadway. And that's going into previews in December. It
- 4:51Speaker 3: would have, it will open, but it would have been
- 4:54Speaker 3: her birthday. They were planning on opening January 19th for
- 4:57Speaker 3: her birthday. Oh.
- 4:57Speaker 1: They're going to open it earlier then?
- 4:59Speaker 3: Well, the previews start December 7th. So I believe you
- 5:02Speaker 3: can already get tickets for that. And then there's some
- 5:05Speaker 3: interesting things about her that we might not have known.
- 5:07Speaker 3: It's fun.
- 5:09Speaker 1: The cloned sheep was named after her? Remember the cloned sheep, Dolly?
- 5:13Speaker 3: I do remember Dolly.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I didn't realize it was Dolly Parton.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I didn't know it was hers either. She was secretly
- 5:20Speaker 3: a producer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was a
- 5:22Speaker 3: show that we loved. The real Jolene is not what
- 5:25Speaker 3: fans imagined and has a book with actual details on
- 5:29Speaker 3: that song.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 5:31Speaker 3: That would be interesting.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And, of course, she lost a Dolly Parton lookalike contest
- 5:35Speaker 2: to a drag queen.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Yeah. That person did it better.
- 5:40Speaker 1: You can do Dolly better than Dolly. You're pretty good,
- 5:43Speaker 1: I must say.
- 5:43Speaker 3: And she also co-wrote a best-selling thriller novel with acclaimed
- 5:47Speaker 3: author James Patterson. There's just so much going on with her.
- 5:50Speaker 1: She could do everything.
- 5:51Speaker 3: I think so.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Mort Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Next on Light FM.
- 5:57Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM. Good morning, Jack and Christine. Starting your day. And,
- 6:01Speaker 1: of course, we are celebrating 100 years.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Not me.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Not you. Not me. Well, maybe combined?
- 6:10Speaker 3: I was going to say collectively in the room. We'll
- 6:12Speaker 3: toss producer Kristen in there, too, just to make it
- 6:15Speaker 3: sound better.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Just get closer.
- 6:16Speaker 3: That's what we'll do.
- 6:19Speaker 1: No, 100 years.
- 6:19Speaker 3: You know, yesterday was Pumpkin Spice Day, Jack, and today
- 6:23Speaker 3: we're talking about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We're inching closer.
- 6:27Speaker 3: We are. So it's 100 days away from the Macy's
- 6:31Speaker 3: Thanksgiving Day Parade, which is celebrating their 100th year. This year.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Wow.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Yes.
- 6:39Speaker 3: So a lot of 100s in there. And what they're
- 6:41Speaker 3: going to do is they'll feature 100.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Unlike my report card. But anyway, go ahead.
- 6:45Speaker 3: They're going to feature 100 balloons or blow ups, whatever
- 6:49Speaker 3: you like to call them. And they're going to go
- 6:51Speaker 3: old school. Some of the older ones like Popeye and
- 6:54Speaker 3: Olive Oil and Bullwinkle and Felix the Cat will be back.
- 6:57Speaker 1: He was the first one, wasn't he?
- 6:59Speaker 3: He was the very first one. So, yes, they want
- 7:02Speaker 3: to honor the original. Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They said
- 7:06Speaker 3: there's going to be a special dedicated float honoring Tony Sarge,
- 7:10Speaker 3: America's puppet master, who helped create the original parade puppets
- 7:14Speaker 3: and floats in the 1920s. And again, that's coming up
- 7:17Speaker 3: November 26th.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Are kids going to know who? Like Bullwinkle is?
- 7:22Speaker 3: If you fill them in.
- 7:23Speaker 4: What is that?
- 7:25Speaker 3: Bring them up to speed.
- 7:26Speaker 5: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 7:30Speaker 5: Next on Light FM.
- 7:31Speaker 1: It's Jack and Christine and headlines.
- 7:34Speaker 3: And good morning, Jack. And as we mentioned throughout the show,
- 7:37Speaker 3: we're mourning the loss of Dolly Parton. We learned yesterday
- 7:40Speaker 3: afternoon that she had passed away at the age of 80.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Former presidents Clinton, Obama, Bush, and current Trump, all issuing
- 7:47Speaker 3: statements praising the impact of Dolly Parton on society, culture,
- 7:51Speaker 3: the nation. You'll see flags at half staff in her
- 7:55Speaker 3: honor today. And also the Empire State Building was lit
- 7:58Speaker 3: up in pink sparkles last night. President Trump says there's
- 8:01Speaker 3: no more mines in the Strait of Hormuz, making the
- 8:04Speaker 3: announcement saying any vessel attempting to lay new mines would
- 8:08Speaker 3: be immediately destroyed. It was a nice run that they'll
- 8:12Speaker 3: remember for the rest of their lives, but the Bayonne
- 8:15Speaker 3: bees were eliminated from the Little League World Series last night.
- 8:18Speaker 3: They lost to Ohio 5-2. And these are officially called
- 8:22Speaker 3: the Dog Days of Summer. And the dogs have their
- 8:25Speaker 3: very own day. Today is National Dog Day, created in
- 8:29Speaker 3: 2004 to raise awareness about the massive number of dogs
- 8:32Speaker 3: that need adoption. Also serves to highlight the contributions of
- 8:35Speaker 3: service dogs to help people stay safe and happy. In sports, baseball,
- 8:41Speaker 3: Mets beat the Brewers 3-2. Yankees lost to the Astros 9-7.
- 8:44Speaker 3: And how... addicted to your phone are you? Here's a
- 8:50Speaker 3: simple little test. Spend an afternoon without it. Leave it
- 8:54Speaker 3: behind for a few hours and just pay attention to
- 8:57Speaker 3: how often you instinctively reach for it.
- 9:01Speaker 1: If it's there, you'll reach for it.
- 9:03Speaker 3: This is a test. This is only a test. You
- 9:05Speaker 3: leave it behind.
- 9:06Speaker 1: We went shopping. I left mine home and I didn't
- 9:09Speaker 1: turn around. I said, let's just do it.
- 9:11Speaker 3: You're brave.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Well, I had somebody with a phone, my wife. It
- 9:14Speaker 2: was an emergency, but I didn't It felt really nice.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it did feel good.
- 9:19Speaker 1: You'll have to wait until I get home. It really did.
- 9:23Speaker 1: But you do wish, I hope I don't miss anything.
- 9:26Speaker 3: There's always that.
- 9:27Speaker 1: When you get back, you check it immediately.
- 9:29Speaker 5: Mort Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Next on Light FM.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Sometimes we have to stop the music so Christine and
- 9:37Speaker 1: I get paid. 106.7 on Light FM. It's good morning.
- 9:41Speaker 1: How are you today? We've got some trends returning.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Has it really been that long? So they're coming back?
- 9:47Speaker 3: Everything 90s is new again, Jack.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Just getting rid of 90s stuff in our... True.
- 9:52Speaker 3: A lot of us are. But HGTV is kind of
- 9:55Speaker 3: kicking off this trend a little bit. They have Totally
- 9:58Speaker 3: 90s House, and they're going in and they're... making over,
- 10:01Speaker 3: you know, houses with some 90s icons like Jaleel White,
- 10:05Speaker 3: better known as Steve Urkel. So some of the things.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Steve Urkel is coming back as a.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Well, not as Steve, you know, the actor.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Okay, okay.
- 10:14Speaker 3: He's going to come make over your house. But some
- 10:16Speaker 3: of the takeaways from this, from the pros... in 90s
- 10:20Speaker 3: decor that they said we like seeing again. If you're
- 10:23Speaker 3: tired of the black and white trend, warm wood is
- 10:25Speaker 3: back in everything from cabinets to accent walls. Lighter oak
- 10:30Speaker 3: and natural finishes.
- 10:32Speaker 2: That's good news because we've been arguing about our faux
- 10:36Speaker 2: wood cabinets.
- 10:38Speaker 1: We wanted to go white, but they're coming back?
- 10:40Speaker 3: We've been doing white. Yeah, my kitchen's white. So which
- 10:44Speaker 3: way do I have to go? Lighter oak finishes.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Are now in. So I just bleach them.
- 10:49Speaker 3: The 90s back again. Soft seating, because they said living
- 10:52Speaker 3: room furniture has been very sleek and streamlined in recent years,
- 10:55Speaker 3: and now we kind of want the softer cushions and
- 10:57Speaker 3: the padding.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Plate walls. Okay.
- 11:01Speaker 1: What the heck is that?
- 11:02Speaker 3: They say they can be cheesy and look dated, but
- 11:04Speaker 3: when done the right way, interior designer Paige Garland. Says
- 11:07Speaker 3: plate walls can be like a gallery that's antique, collected,
- 11:10Speaker 3: just the right amount of homey.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I'm not sure about that.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Okay.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I'll put pictures on the wall.
- 11:15Speaker 3: You can pass on that.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I'm going to pass.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Wallpaper. Do you remember how big a trend wallpaper was?
- 11:20Speaker 1: My father loved wallpaper.
- 11:22Speaker 3: He put wallpaper on everything.
- 11:23Speaker 1: He wallpapered the light switch covers.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 1: That's how much he was into it.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Okay.
- 11:28Speaker 3: So to keep it to a minimum, but wallpaper, yes.
- 11:33Speaker 3: More like accent walls.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Yes.
- 11:34Speaker 3: They're talking about that, which I'm seeing, which is really,
- 11:37Speaker 3: really beautiful.
- 11:37Speaker 1: That's something I always like to do. We painted the
- 11:39Speaker 1: inside of the house. I would always do one wall different.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:42Speaker 3: That's always pretty. And warm, neutral paint tones are back.
- 11:45Speaker 3: So we've been seeing what they call millennial gray for
- 11:47Speaker 3: many years. We're going back towards buttery yellows and earthy shades.
- 11:52Speaker 3: They're saying the things that you want to leave behind
- 11:54Speaker 3: from the 90s, leave them in the 90s. Glossy wood sealers.
- 11:59Speaker 3: You want everything matte. You don't want shiny.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Okay.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Furniture skirts and ruffles. Still look old-fashioned and dated. This
- 12:07Speaker 3: is according to the experts. This is not me. Wallpaper borders.
- 12:11Speaker 3: I remember those from the 90s, big time. They were
- 12:14Speaker 3: a lot of work.
- 12:15Speaker 1: It is a lot of work.
- 12:16Speaker 3: And faux Tuscany. No more jars filled with peppers or
- 12:19Speaker 3: pasta sitting on the shelves. Do you remember sponging? You
- 12:24Speaker 3: would paint.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Yes. That's, yeah. I didn't do it. I knew somebody
- 12:28Speaker 1: who did that.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Sponged everything?
- 12:30Speaker 1: Yeah, sponged it.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and it was all those Tuscany colors. So they're saying, yeah,
- 12:33Speaker 3: leave those behind.
- 12:34Speaker 5: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 12:38Speaker 5: Next on Light FM.
- 12:40Speaker 1: You pretty good at trivia?
- 12:42Speaker 5: Light FM's Trivia Battle.
- 12:45Speaker 3: 106.7 Light FM, good morning. It's Christine, Jack in for Cubby,
- 12:49Speaker 3: along with producer Kristen. And it's time for our Trivia
- 12:52Speaker 3: Battle to win a four-pack of tickets. to see Ed
- 12:55Speaker 3: Sheeran at MetLife Stadium.
- 12:56Speaker 2: I'm all excited because Long Island is in the house. Kim,
- 13:00Speaker 2: you want to be a little more specific, or are
- 13:02Speaker 2: you going to keep generic here?
- 13:04Speaker 4: I live in Huntington.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Huntington.
- 13:05Speaker 4: I'm from Huntington, Long Island.
- 13:06Speaker 1: All right. Yay. Great spot, great parade, and I got
- 13:10Speaker 1: to see a show there at the Paramount.
- 13:13Speaker 4: Isn't that a great place?
- 13:14Speaker 1: It's a great place.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Then you go across the street to that pizza where
- 13:17Speaker 2: they dump cold mozzarella cheese on top.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Delicious.
- 13:21Speaker 1: All right. So let's get started. What are you doing today?
- 13:24Speaker 3: Working?
- 13:24Speaker 4: I'm on my way to work.
- 13:26Speaker 1: All right.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Well, we'll make this quick then. I don't know how
- 13:28Speaker 2: long your commute is, but we have to get Christine's contestant.
- 13:32Speaker 3: I have a friend on the line too, Jack. Maybe
- 13:35Speaker 3: they brought pizza. Okay, Susan. So you're checking in from
- 13:38Speaker 3: Staten Island. And what are you up to today?
- 13:40Speaker 4: I am going to work as I speak to you.
- 13:43Speaker 4: I work for the insurance company and I do more
- 13:48Speaker 4: administrative work.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Okay, very good. Thank you. Well, good luck. Here we go.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Okay, Kim, you're up first. Here's the first question. Demi
- 13:56Speaker 1: Lovato just turned 34 years old. She got her big
- 13:59Speaker 1: break in which Disney movie? A, High School Musical, B,
- 14:05Speaker 1: Camp Rock, or C, Hannah Montana?
- 14:11Speaker 4: It's B, Camp Rock.
- 14:14Speaker 1: That is correct. Congratulations. That's a great, great start.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Okay, Susan, here we go. You might remember that Indiana
- 14:23Speaker 3: won college football's national championship last season. Who did they
- 14:27Speaker 3: beat in the championship game? Was it A, University of Miami, B,
- 14:32Speaker 3: Florida State University, or C, University of Florida? I'm going
- 14:38Speaker 3: to go with B. B, Florida State University? Yes. Okay,
- 14:44Speaker 3: I'm sorry, that's not it. It's A, University of Miami.
- 14:48Speaker 1: All right, Kim, let's go for number two here.
