1:18
Speaker 2: Wednesday edition of the show Sunny and seventy five in
1:20
Speaker 2: the Capital City. I'm going to keep saying it until
1:23
Speaker 2: it happens. Yesterday's certainly a lot better weather than what
1:26
Speaker 2: it has been car washes. I know, enjoyed it yesterday.
1:29
Speaker 2: I was really hoping that the snow and ice would
1:32
Speaker 2: all go away, but it didn't, even though it got
1:35
Speaker 2: up to I think when I left the office yesterday,
1:37
Speaker 2: I think it was like sixty eight degrees or something
1:39
Speaker 2: like that. But most a lot of it has gone anyway. Now,
1:42
Speaker 2: you just got a big mess on your hands. Coming
1:45
Speaker 2: up on the show today, Putnamuty commission Doug Pearson's going
1:47
Speaker 2: to stop by. He's also a candidate for reelection, so
1:50
Speaker 2: we'll talk to him about that race, but more more
1:54
Speaker 2: so on the things going on to Putnam County, and yes,
1:58
Speaker 2: I am going to get into the misspelling the governor's
2:00
Speaker 2: press conference yesterday and how I think, to be honest
2:05
Speaker 2: with you, that all broke during the Metro News Midday
2:08
Speaker 2: yesterday and by now, I'm sure you know what we're
2:10
Speaker 2: talking about. The governor was at a press event in
2:14
Speaker 2: West Virginia. The Virginia Park was spelled incorrectly on the
2:18
Speaker 2: sign on the podium, and it's gone national now and
2:21
Speaker 2: so on and so forth. I feel that he is
2:24
Speaker 2: personally being treated unfairly over this whole thing. To be
2:27
Speaker 2: honest with you, I want to explain why, coming up
2:28
Speaker 2: a little bit later on, and your calls and text
2:30
Speaker 2: to welcome to big Ley Piggli Wiggly Hotline three zero
2:33

2:35
Speaker 2: Taylor text three zero four nine three five five zero
2:38
Speaker 2: zero eight. One other thing I do want to mention,
2:40
Speaker 2: because I did this I talked about a little bit yesterday,
2:43
Speaker 2: there are some folks within the City of Charleston that
2:45
Speaker 2: think that term limits are a good idea for city
2:48
Speaker 2: council members, for the mayor. One of those is the
2:50
Speaker 2: mayor Mayor Amy goodwhen she said that on the show
2:53
Speaker 2: in the past. But a couple of council people are
2:55
Speaker 2: really getting behind this thing, and I want to talk
2:57
Speaker 2: about that movement coming up a little bit later on
2:59
Speaker 2: as well. Okay, giving you enough information there. I want
3:02
Speaker 2: to welcome into the show now, good friend and studio.
3:05
Speaker 2: This morning, doctor Casey Sanks a Bridge Valley. How you doing.
3:07
Speaker 4: Good morning, So nice to see today, Dave.
3:09
Speaker 2: Nice to see you as well.
3:10
Speaker 5: You know.
3:10
Speaker 2: And I'm here's the thing, doctor, I am wearing a
3:13
Speaker 2: Marshall University.
3:14
Speaker 4: I no hate. I'm a commerciall fan.
3:16
Speaker 2: Go ahead, drinking from a West Virginia State University.
3:19
Speaker 4: I'm a fan of them too. All right, our students
3:22
Speaker 4: transferred to all of these places.
3:24
Speaker 2: What's missing?
3:25
Speaker 4: I mean you need some Bridge Valley swag?
3:27
Speaker 2: Just sure, just saying it's not required, because I think
3:30
Speaker 2: that's illegal his handout. I'm just saying, just saying, I
3:34
Speaker 2: wouldn't turn down a coffee.
3:36
Speaker 4: Mug, Valley swag.
3:39
Speaker 2: Or a sports car or you know something like that either.
3:42
Speaker 6: Yeah.
3:42
Speaker 2: I mean, just just saying, if you ever wanted to
3:45
Speaker 2: hook me up, I'd take it because I'm all about
3:47
Speaker 2: the free stuff. Good to know, thirty eight years of radio,
3:49
Speaker 2: we never turned down to each I've been not to fun, Okay,
3:52
Speaker 2: so I expect that next time. All right, Uh, you
3:56
Speaker 2: you've got a really good relationship with the folks with
3:58
Speaker 2: a cav am. I that's aw Valley Mining Institute, and
4:01
Speaker 2: there were recently some scholarships handed out to talk about it.
4:04
Speaker 4: So what a nice group they had me in four
4:07
Speaker 4: years ago, I think, to just talk about what's going
4:09
Speaker 4: on at Bridge Valley. And several of the folks who
4:12
Speaker 4: are part of the group are retired in the industry,
4:16
Speaker 4: have taught at Bridge Valley at some point over the years,
4:19
Speaker 4: and they're really interested in supporting our community. So we
4:22
Speaker 4: got to talking and they've started to support students at
4:26
Speaker 4: the college. They've started to support our Summer steam Camp
4:29
Speaker 4: every year, every single year. They're wonderful supporters of the
4:33
Speaker 4: entire canav Valley, in our community and certainly of Bridge Valley.
4:36
Speaker 4: This week they awarded eight students scholarships to go to
4:40
Speaker 4: Bridge Valley, so that was fun. We had a whole
4:42
Speaker 4: award ceremony for them and got to see all the students.
4:44
Speaker 4: They donated enough money to support three kids in the
4:47
Speaker 4: local community to go to Summer steam Camp. So one
4:50
Speaker 4: of the things we really appreciate is we don't want
4:52
Speaker 4: any kids to not be able to come to summer
4:55
Speaker 4: camp if it's something they want to do. And groups
4:57
Speaker 4: like KVMI step right up and support them so that
5:00
Speaker 4: they're paid for and they can show up, but it
5:01
Speaker 4: doesn't matter if their families can't afford it.
5:03
Speaker 2: Now, were those scholarships for fields that somehow were related
5:07
Speaker 2: to the council prices? Yeah? Well no, I mean that's
5:10
Speaker 2: that's completely understandable. What are some of those things that
5:14
Speaker 2: are related to mining that Bridge Valley has to off?
5:16
Speaker 4: Sure, so we do a lot in globally in manufacturing
5:20
Speaker 4: in it. We've talked about that on your show many times.
5:24
Speaker 4: One program that people often get really excited about is
5:28
Speaker 4: we have a program that helps teach you about natural gas.
5:31
Speaker 4: And so if you come into the advance into Toyota
5:34
Speaker 4: Hall Over in South Charleston, on the main floor, we
5:37
Speaker 4: have an entire room that's dedicated to reading wells and
5:40
Speaker 4: reading reading gauges, and our room is designed with water
5:45
Speaker 4: in mind. But out in the real world, if you've
5:47
Speaker 4: gone hiking in Kana State Forest, you may have seen
5:50
Speaker 4: a natural gas well head and it's not water. It's
5:52
Speaker 4: more dangerous than water. And so we do a lot
5:55
Speaker 4: of training about how do you read those, what are
5:56
Speaker 4: the gauges, how do you fix those, what does that
5:58
Speaker 4: look like? And then the coolest job that I've heard
6:01
Speaker 4: of so far is that it's actually someone's job to
6:05
Speaker 4: write a four wheeler around the forest and fixed gas wellheads.
6:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, I know people that do that sort of thing.
6:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, So we trained for that at Bridge Valley and
6:12
Speaker 4: KVMI is interested in that kind of work.
6:15
Speaker 2: And we're talking with the doctor Casey Sachs a Bridge Valley.
6:17
Speaker 2: It's nine thirteen The Dave Island Show on five Adyline,
6:20
Speaker 2: brought to you in part abou Husband's Pizza All month long,
6:22
Speaker 2: Get yourself a fourteen inch one topping heart shaped pizza
6:25
Speaker 2: only fourteen ninety nine delivery, pickup her dyna and visit
6:28
Speaker 2: Husband's Pizza dot com. We talked about the Summer Steam
6:30
Speaker 2: Academy for people that don't know what is that academy
6:32
Speaker 2: all about.
6:33
Speaker 4: So it's for fifth grader, sixth grader, seventh graders, and
6:36
Speaker 4: eighth graders. So it's for kids, and it's really an
6:39
Speaker 4: opportunity to come to the college and learn about careers
6:42
Speaker 4: that we help provide that we help prepare people for.
6:45
Speaker 4: It also is an opportunity for kids to just do
6:48
Speaker 4: hands on camp experiences. My goddaughter lives in New Jersey
6:52
Speaker 4: and a couple of years ago her parents center to
6:53
Speaker 4: come stay with me for the summer, and she stayed
6:55
Speaker 4: with me and we centered steam camp and it was
6:58
Speaker 4: just fun. It's with other kids, and it's a lot
6:59
Speaker 4: of hands on experiences.
7:01
Speaker 2: Give me an example some of the things that they
7:03
Speaker 2: actually do.
7:03
Speaker 4: I mean, they play with legos and talk talk about
7:06
Speaker 4: what have you now designed with the legos? And how
7:07
Speaker 4: does this relate that? It's it's all kinds of they
7:12
Speaker 4: designed something in CAD when she was there, and so
7:15
Speaker 4: you get on the computer and you create whatever it
7:18
Speaker 4: is you create, and then they three D print it
7:20
Speaker 4: for you in our three D printing lab. It's really
7:23
Speaker 4: an opportunity. Actually, the kids get to play with the
7:26
Speaker 4: gauges that I was just talking about. So we have
7:29
Speaker 4: all of these things that you wouldn't get to see
7:32
Speaker 4: at home, but they do sort of feel like toys
7:35
Speaker 4: and it's a great opportunity for kids to have some
7:37
Speaker 4: hands on exp But.
7:38
Speaker 2: It's during the summer in June, usually in June. Okay,
7:42
Speaker 2: is there a like a deadline that parents need to
7:45
Speaker 2: sign their kids up for that or.
7:47
Speaker 4: It's it isn't yet. I don't even know what date is.
7:49
Speaker 2: We'll get it. We'll get it, for get it, We'll
7:51
Speaker 2: get it. We'll get it for all the listeners at
7:53
Speaker 2: some point, just want to make sure people don't forget
7:55
Speaker 2: about it, at least don't.
7:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's really fun.
7:57
Speaker 2: And at this point, you know, with all of the
7:59
Speaker 2: remote Arnie that's had to go on because of the weather,
8:02
Speaker 2: some parents might might want to send their kids to camp.
8:05
Speaker 2: I'm just just to get them out of the house
8:08
Speaker 2: ale of it. I'm just so you know, mom and
8:09
Speaker 2: daddy to break sometimes too. I want to talk about
8:12
Speaker 2: the success of the WIN program and you talk We
8:16
Speaker 2: talk about a couple times every time you yere with us,
8:18
Speaker 2: but describe what for people who don't know what the
8:21
Speaker 2: WIN program is, what it stands for, and how successful
8:24
Speaker 2: it's been.
8:25
Speaker 4: Win Academy is a high school. It's a public high
8:27
Speaker 4: school right here in the valley, and students have to
8:30
Speaker 4: choose to want to go to it, and it's you
8:33
Speaker 4: come in and it's designed Originally it was designed for nursing,
8:37
Speaker 4: so it was designed for students who wanted to become
8:39
Speaker 4: an our inn and we've expanded into advanced manufacturing technology.
8:42
Speaker 4: So if you think about our Toyota program and helping
8:45
Speaker 4: people prepare to be technicians up at the Toyota plant.
8:47
Speaker 4: That's an option to So students in eleventh and twelfth
8:52
Speaker 4: grade come to the college and we do two things. First,
8:55
Speaker 4: we prioritize what are the credits you need, so we
8:58
Speaker 4: make sure you graduate from high school. So missing a
9:00
Speaker 4: history class, you take a college level history class. Most
9:03
Speaker 4: students by eleventh grade aren't missing that, they just need
9:06
Speaker 4: a body of work that counts towards their college. So
9:09
Speaker 4: then what we do is we look at a college
9:11
Speaker 4: major nursing or manufacturing technology, and we make sure that
9:15
Speaker 4: the classes that you're taking completely align with that major.
9:18
Speaker 4: So instead of taking a random science class, you take
9:21
Speaker 4: microbiology because it's what's required for nursing and it's allowing
9:25
Speaker 4: students to graduate from high school with an associates degree.
9:28
Speaker 2: I mean, and that's pretty good stuff right there. I mean,
9:31
Speaker 2: I mean, you know, you talk about starting starting now
9:34
Speaker 2: in your quote unquote adult life. Some of us are
9:36
Speaker 2: waiting to become an adult in me, but you start
9:40
Speaker 2: off with an associates degree. I mean, like, you know,
9:42
Speaker 2: left hand has a high school diploma, right hand has
9:44
Speaker 2: an associate's degree of pluma.
9:46
Speaker 4: We're really we're proud of all of our students, but
9:49
Speaker 4: our valedictorian two years ago was a young man named
9:52
Speaker 4: Caden and he's working at WV. Thomas Hospital now in
9:55
Speaker 4: the open heart surgery area. Well so he's nineteen years
9:58
Speaker 4: old and he's an and he's an open heart cardiac nurse.
10:02
Speaker 4: And we could not be more proud of you.
10:04
Speaker 2: See, you know, to give me the information, we don't
10:05
Speaker 2: want to do. But local gap, he's local.
10:07
Speaker 4: He yep, he's local. He lived up near PoCA High School.
10:10
Speaker 2: Okay, cool, good stuff. And you have an open house
10:13
Speaker 2: coming up.
10:13
Speaker 5: We do.
10:14
Speaker 4: We have an open house coming up. Anyone is welcome.
10:16
Speaker 4: It's like I said, it's a public high school. It's
10:19
Speaker 4: February eighteenth at five point thirty. So if you're a
10:21
Speaker 4: student and you're listening and you think this sounds like
10:23
Speaker 4: a great fit, bring your parent. And if you're a
10:26
Speaker 4: parent or grandparent who's listening and you think, gosh, this
10:29
Speaker 4: is something that my kids should be doing, bring them.
10:31
Speaker 4: Let's let us talk to him about it.
10:33
Speaker 2: And you've always got fun things going on there, and
10:35
Speaker 2: this is a little bit in the future and we
10:36
Speaker 2: can talk about it. It was we get a little
10:38
Speaker 2: bit closer, But I think it's in April. You have
10:40
Speaker 2: a murder mystery production.
10:42
Speaker 4: So we're so excited about this. So it's a partnership
10:45
Speaker 4: between our student Affairs student support Group and the Foundation,
10:50
Speaker 4: and what they're doing is they're doing a murder mystery
10:53
Speaker 4: activity in April. So you're right, it's a little far away,
10:56
Speaker 4: but you can start buying tickets now and they're going
10:58
Speaker 4: to sell out, which is why it was talking about
11:01
Speaker 4: the money supports our Student Opportunity Fund. We've talked about
11:04
Speaker 4: that before. Any of our students could just be a
11:06
Speaker 4: flat tire away from having to drop out of school. Yeah,
11:09
Speaker 4: and we just don't want that for people. And so
11:11
Speaker 4: when we raise money for the Student Opportunity Fund, it's
11:14
Speaker 4: so that when people come in and say I have
11:17
Speaker 4: a flat tire and I don't have the money to
11:19
Speaker 4: pay for something like that, we can help them out
11:22
Speaker 4: and then keep them in school because that really does
11:24
Speaker 4: serve everyone better. But the Murder Mystery should be really fun.
11:27
Speaker 4: It should be a great community activity and we would
11:29
Speaker 4: love for folks who are listening to day to come
11:31
Speaker 4: join us.
11:31
Speaker 2: Now. Have the tickets you can get those, I guess
11:33
Speaker 2: on the website. Can you get Bridge Valley website.
11:35
Speaker 4: It's at Bridge Valley dot com.
11:36
Speaker 2: All Right, that opportunity program you've talked about that in
11:39
Speaker 2: the past, doctor Sachs, is something that I think is
11:42
Speaker 2: really really good because, as you said, with Bridge Valley
11:44
Speaker 2: and for that matter, any institution of hire learning a
11:47
Speaker 2: student literally could be a flat tire, a dead battery, whatever,
11:54
Speaker 2: away from just having having to quit, you know, or
11:56
Speaker 2: miss or miss a lot of time one of the two.
11:59
Speaker 4: I mean, life happens, and we understand that, and the
12:01
Speaker 4: whole community really does want to rally around people and
12:04
Speaker 4: help them. It's just finding the right way to help
12:07
Speaker 4: people constructively, and this is one of those ways that
12:09
Speaker 4: couldn't be more constructive. It's a really great opportunity to say,
12:13
Speaker 4: you're a student who has already made the commitment, who's
12:15
Speaker 4: already on your way to changing your life, and we
12:18
Speaker 4: just want to give you a little help.
12:19
Speaker 2: And it's just like a general fund for students, right,
12:22
Speaker 2: I mean, so what does the process look like if
12:24
Speaker 2: somebody If I'm a student there and I need a
12:25
Speaker 2: little help with something, I just just go to the
12:28
Speaker 2: office there. I just so.
12:29
Speaker 4: Generally students start with one of their counselors. Everybody has
12:33
Speaker 4: a counselor. So generally the counselors say, oh, you, we
12:37
Speaker 4: need to connect you to the Student Opportunity Fund and
12:40
Speaker 4: then we get the process moving like that. But occasionally
12:42
Speaker 4: students come in directly. Our foundation director manages it and
12:46
Speaker 4: so she takes a very short intake form from them
12:50
Speaker 4: and then give some the money.
12:53
Speaker 2: It's good. It's a very very worthwhile program. And if
12:58
Speaker 2: somebody's listening now and they would like to donate to that,
13:01
Speaker 2: can you just accept donations? I guess your foundation.
13:04
Speaker 4: Actually it's at Bridge Valley dot edu and on the
13:06
Speaker 4: top right there's a foundation button, and when you're at
13:10
Speaker 4: the foundation you can select what you're interested in giving too.
13:12
Speaker 4: So if you just want to give to dental hygiene,
13:14
Speaker 4: that's an option. If you're just interested in manufacturing, and
13:17
Speaker 4: if what you want to do is support any student
13:20
Speaker 4: who needs help, the Student Opportunity Fund is how we
13:22
Speaker 4: do that.
13:23
Speaker 2: You guess, how have you done over the last three
13:26
Speaker 2: weeks with all this winter weather we've had? I know
13:28
Speaker 2: you've had this, yeah, for ever. It seems like it's
13:31
Speaker 2: gone on forever and it's really only been about about
13:34
Speaker 2: two and a half A week.
13:35
Speaker 4: February has been one hundred days already.
13:38
Speaker 2: So how have you guys managed to get through everything?
13:41
Speaker 2: Everything got up there?
13:43
Speaker 4: The Tech Park does a really nice job with snow removal.
13:45
Speaker 4: We're happy to be tenants up there. They're a good landlord.
13:49
Speaker 4: And actually in Montgomery, my team's done a wonderful job.
13:53
Speaker 4: But it's a smaller footprints.
13:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Okay, Well, and hopefully we're done with it.
13:58
Speaker 4: Gosh, I hope Dave the groundhot has called us.
14:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, at least for a couple of days.
14:05
Speaker 4: A great I'll take it.
14:06
Speaker 2: Doctor Ksey Saxsonbridge Valley Community techn of College. Always a
14:09
Speaker 2: pleasure to have you here. We'll talk again soon and
14:13
Speaker 2: remind people where they can learn more about anything we
14:15
Speaker 2: talk about during your segments.
14:16
Speaker 4: Bridge Valley dot Edu.
14:17
Speaker 2: All right's nine twenty one. We'll take a break, but
14:20
Speaker 2: Dave aland show and five any Live is brought to
14:22
Speaker 2: you in part by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury

17:07
Speaker 2: before though, haven't yeah about you.
17:08
Speaker 5: It's about a year ago today and.
17:09
Speaker 2: When you were first appointed, because you were appointed to
17:12
Speaker 2: the Putnam County commission talk about the first year there.
17:14
Speaker 5: It's been a whirlwind.
17:16
Speaker 6: Uh.
17:17
Speaker 5: There's just I knew very little about county government in
17:21
Speaker 5: Uh when I got appointed, I was a county commissioner,
17:25
Speaker 5: I mean, excuse me, town council in Buffalo for few
17:28
Speaker 5: years and a little bit about the government side. But
17:30
Speaker 5: the county is just at a different level. There's a
17:33
Speaker 5: lot been going on since then. The biggest thing for
17:37
Speaker 5: me when I was appointed. They'll give you like two
17:39
Speaker 5: or three agencies or boards that you're appointed to to
17:43
Speaker 5: sort of be the oversight for, and Animal Shelter was one.
17:48
Speaker 5: Parks and Recreation was one, which Parksing Recreation. I had
17:50
Speaker 5: been on that board for probably twenty years, so I
17:52
Speaker 5: was very familiar with how that worked. Animal Shelter was
17:57
Speaker 5: one that was new to me. Got involved in that
18:00
Speaker 5: and just sort of fell in love with the place.
18:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to talk a little bit about the
18:03
Speaker 2: animal shelter because the Animal Shelter of Putnam County had
18:07
Speaker 2: had issues. I mean, they've been very well documented. And
18:10
Speaker 2: you and I talked not long ago and you said,
18:13
Speaker 2: we got some really positive things going on with the
18:16
Speaker 2: Putnam County Animal Shelter.
18:17
Speaker 5: No, I'll talk about it absolutely. When I came on
18:21
Speaker 5: there the U, there was a lot of negatives that
18:25
Speaker 5: were in the past with the animal shelter there, so
18:27
Speaker 5: we were fighting those issues and I sort of took
18:34
Speaker 5: it on to myself to just start going to the
18:37
Speaker 5: animal shelter a lot, just to see what was going on,
18:40
Speaker 5: what could be improved, what was good, what was bad.
18:44
Speaker 5: At that time, we were also going through some management changes.
18:47
Speaker 5: We had some directors just resigned. They just worked themselves
18:51
Speaker 5: to the bone.
18:52
Speaker 2: It's tough. They mean it really really is. It's a
18:55
Speaker 2: tough line of work to be in.
18:56
Speaker 5: She wasn't good at delegating, and she was working eighty
18:59
Speaker 5: hours a week. She burned herself out.
19:01
Speaker 2: So and very physically and mentally demanding.
19:03
Speaker 5: Absolutely there. It's a tough job because you know you've
19:07
Speaker 5: got there's animals there that you would love to find
19:09
Speaker 5: homes for everyone or take them, take them all, take
19:11
Speaker 5: them myself. Yeah, that's the struggle that I have with
19:14
Speaker 5: spending too much time with the animal shelter is the
19:17
Speaker 5: they're trying to convince me that I need one of
19:19
Speaker 5: those dogs and I can't take care of one yet.
19:22
Speaker 5: So well, at some point, yeah, we probably will. But
19:26
Speaker 5: at that point, you know, even when you and I
19:28
Speaker 5: talked last February, we said, okay, we got to get
19:30
Speaker 5: a few things taken care of. One is we need
19:32
Speaker 5: a director in place. We need to come up with
19:35
Speaker 5: a vet of record, we need to At that time,
19:38
Speaker 5: we were basically subcontracting our management to the Kenwall County
19:42
Speaker 5: Animal Shelter. They helped us out for probably six months
19:46
Speaker 5: or more of providing management for our shelter, and of
19:50
Speaker 5: course there was a fee that came with that, so
19:52
Speaker 5: obviously we were trying to get away from that as well.
19:54
Speaker 5: Since then, Caitlin Johnson, she is the director that we hired.
20:00
Speaker 5: She was actually an employee of the Charleston Police Department
20:03
Speaker 5: in their animal control and she had worked for the
20:07
Speaker 5: animal shelter in the past and she wanted to come back.
20:10
Speaker 5: She has done a fantastic job. We've got good management
20:12
Speaker 5: in place there now. One of the first things I
20:15
Speaker 5: noticed when I got there was you've got one hundred
20:19
Speaker 5: and fifty animals in there, and they like to have
20:21
Speaker 5: a blanket delay on every night to provide a little
20:24
Speaker 5: comfort level for them. So we've got a lot of laundry,
20:27
Speaker 5: a lot of dishes, a lot of laundry. So that's
20:28
Speaker 5: what I was doing. My volunteer was there's I washed
20:31
Speaker 5: dishes and do the laundry, which couldn't keep up. And
20:34
Speaker 5: so I told the director, I said, I don't know
20:36
Speaker 5: how much power I've got, but if I've got any power,
20:38
Speaker 5: we're going to get a commercial washer and dryer here
20:40
Speaker 5: to keep up with this laundry. And about a month
20:44
Speaker 5: ago we started it up. So now you can walk
20:47
Speaker 5: in there and just everything is really nice. There's not
20:51
Speaker 5: a stack of laundry there waiting. It's never going to
20:54
Speaker 5: be done. Sometimes they actually had to throw things away
20:57
Speaker 5: because it just you know, it can be cleaned, it
20:58
Speaker 5: could not be cleaned. And now that we've got that
21:01
Speaker 5: in place, so adoption rates are up, we still have
21:05
Speaker 5: more animals than we can house. I mean, you do
21:08
Speaker 5: a lot of work with the Canal County as well,
21:09
Speaker 5: so they have the same situation. You've got more animals
21:12
Speaker 5: than you can find places for an unused office at
21:16
Speaker 5: the animal shelter as a dog in it.
21:19
Speaker 2: Now, that's the way it is in Canall County too,
21:21
Speaker 2: I mean, and probably animal shelters everywhere.
21:23
Speaker 5: And you know, obviously you're still even with that adoption
21:27
Speaker 5: rate higher and higher, and of course we are life
21:29
Speaker 5: saving shelter. We don't euthanize just for the point of euthanizing,
21:33
Speaker 5: and we don't so you know, we keep those animals
21:36
Speaker 5: there and we find homes for them. A couple are
21:39
Speaker 5: leaving today to an animal placement facility northern part of
21:45
Speaker 5: the state, I believe it is. But you know, we
21:47
Speaker 5: work with a lot of those animals sanctuary like places
21:50
Speaker 5: where they'll either keep them for a while until they
21:53
Speaker 5: can find an adopted home or you know, they've already
21:56
Speaker 5: got somebody that's looking for that type of a dog.
21:59
Speaker 5: So you've got a few that are leaving today. One
22:02
Speaker 5: we uh lovingly called Gummy because he's an older dog
22:06
Speaker 5: and didn't have any teeths found a home for him.
22:09
Speaker 1: Good.
22:09
Speaker 5: And so's there's a home for everybody. Yeah, there is,
22:12
Speaker 5: and uh there's a there's an animal.
22:13
Speaker 2: For everybody, and there's and there's everybody for an animal
22:16
Speaker 2: that we're talking to. Doug Pearson again, Putnam County Commissioner.
22:19
Speaker 2: I want to talk about water issues. You said you
22:21
Speaker 2: had some water news.
22:22
Speaker 5: We had some good announcements that we made yesterday. I
22:27
Speaker 5: put it out yesterday on my Facebook page just to
22:30
Speaker 5: get it out there to people. But uh, there residence
22:33
Speaker 5: of Custo Ridge. And if you're familiar with Buffalo at all,
22:36
Speaker 5: it's just as you're going into Buffalo, just beyond the
22:38
Speaker 5: Excellent Station there goes up behind the Toyota plant and
22:43
Speaker 5: comes out on Cross Creek Hill out there by Grit's Farm.
22:46
Speaker 5: A lot of people are familiar with Gritz Farm. Yeah,
22:48
Speaker 5: that's the area that we're talking about. Those people had
22:51
Speaker 5: been waiting on the city water. They they have to
22:54
Speaker 5: haul water to their house.
22:56
Speaker 2: Uh.
22:57
Speaker 5: So yesterday we attended to prebid meat for that. So
23:00
Speaker 5: that is done. That's that's a done deal. It's going
23:02
Speaker 5: to be that's actually going to happen. Those people have
23:05
Speaker 5: been waiting for years for water there.
23:07
Speaker 2: And how many people we talk about approximate how many
23:09
Speaker 2: families resident.
23:10
Speaker 5: That's probably in the fifty to seventy five range. And
23:14
Speaker 5: you know, of course for those people, if you say,
23:18
Speaker 5: you know, three million or whatever that is, there's no
23:20
Speaker 5: way that those fifty people can divide up three million,
23:23
Speaker 5: you know, there's no way that they could do that.
23:24
Speaker 5: And there's and it would be very difficult for the
23:27
Speaker 5: county to do that without funding. So always waiting on
23:30
Speaker 5: funding streams for that. So that one with the pre
23:32
Speaker 5: business meeting yesterday that will bids will be open on
23:35
Speaker 5: the twenty fourth, will award a contract very soon after that,
23:39
Speaker 5: and then that contract calls for a two hundred and
23:41
Speaker 5: seventy day completion, so within nine months those people will
23:44
Speaker 5: have city water that they won't have to be haul
23:46
Speaker 5: in water all the time. And then at the same
23:48
Speaker 5: time we were made aware of a grant through the
23:55
Speaker 5: federal It was a federal grant for like two point
23:58
Speaker 5: two eight million dollars to do Fisher Ridge, which is
24:02
Speaker 5: further on out on Redhouse Hill. That will be about
24:06
Speaker 5: a seventy five to one hundred houses affected there, and
24:10
Speaker 5: then there's other funding for that to make up to
24:12
Speaker 5: twenty percent grant, So that one is basically a no
24:15
Speaker 5: cost to the citizens of Putnam County and we're going
24:17
Speaker 5: to get water to a lot more of the residents
24:20
Speaker 5: that have been waiting for years for that.
24:22
Speaker 2: Talking again with Putnam County Commission Doug Pearson. It's twenty

24:35
Speaker 2: the lated this episode is wv metronews dot com under
24:38
Speaker 2: the podcast menu. What else is good in Putnam County
24:40
Speaker 2: these days too?
24:41
Speaker 5: That's lots of things going on. The nine to one
24:45
Speaker 5: one towers, a lot of those are being updated. Michael
24:47
Speaker 5: White and the EMS group there, they're always forward looking.
24:52
Speaker 5: You know, you've got to think about what's going to
24:54
Speaker 5: be tomorrow. So we've relocated a few of the nine
24:58
Speaker 5: to one one towers and upgrading some of those that
25:01
Speaker 5: are existing. So that's in the process now. And those
25:06
Speaker 5: are things that you just don't see and most people
25:09
Speaker 5: don't even hear about, but you know, that's something that
25:11
Speaker 5: we're always doing to to make sure that that nine
25:14
Speaker 5: one one service is available and in effect for everybody
25:18
Speaker 5: that there's the ability to get a cell phone call
25:23
Speaker 5: out because some of these remote areas obviously that's that's
25:28
Speaker 5: not the case. You know, there are some dead spots there,
25:31
Speaker 5: so trying to make sure that. Recently, just in the
25:36
Speaker 5: past election where we did the fire levee. That's also
25:39
Speaker 5: an e MS related issue. Every county, every location is
25:44
Speaker 5: dealing with lower and lower account of volunteer firefighters. It's
25:50
Speaker 5: just you know, you don't have as many people going
25:52
Speaker 5: to volunteers that were in the past. So Putnam County
25:56
Speaker 5: passed a fire levee so that we could have public
26:00
Speaker 5: funding for a certain amount of full time firefighters. Now
26:05
Speaker 5: they'll still supplement the volunteers where you know, we can't
26:08
Speaker 5: do without the volunteer fire departments. It's it's impossible. We
26:10
Speaker 5: won't be able to hire enough people. But we will
26:13
Speaker 5: have some full time employees that will be available, you know,
26:17
Speaker 5: twenty four to seven. Basically, they're going to work twelve
26:19
Speaker 5: hour shifts. Still trying to determine the strategic location to
26:24
Speaker 5: put those people, to make them accessible to the entire county.
26:28
Speaker 5: You know, on a quick notice. You can't just can't
26:32
Speaker 5: just stick them up in Buffalo because that's the northern
26:34
Speaker 5: part of the county. It'd be you know, too long
26:36
Speaker 5: to get them to Tay's Valley or to the southern
26:38
Speaker 5: side of the county. So we've got to come up
26:39
Speaker 5: with those strategical educations. Don't know exactly where that's going
26:42
Speaker 5: to be yet, but they're working on that. Dave Turley
26:47
Speaker 5: and Jamie Burgess, the leaders of that group, they're working
26:50
Speaker 5: hard on that to put that all together and to
26:52
Speaker 5: get the employees hired. But that's well on the move
26:56
Speaker 5: that you know, we're going to supplement those volunteer fire
26:58
Speaker 5: departments with some with some paid paid workers.
27:02
Speaker 2: One of the things I wanted to ask you about, Commissioner,
27:05
Speaker 2: was we hear a lot about infrastructure, you know, in
27:09
Speaker 2: West Virginia, and this past winter or say this past
27:12
Speaker 2: Wink I'm already putting it behind. It's this winter that
27:15
Speaker 2: has been incredibly difficult, especially the last two to three weeks,
27:19
Speaker 2: water main breaks and so on and so forth, and
27:23
Speaker 2: we just keep going back, it seems like, in this
27:24
Speaker 2: state to infrastructure, and we just don't do And I'm
27:28
Speaker 2: not saying Putnam County specifically, but I said, we just
27:30
Speaker 2: don't do what we should or you know whatever with
27:35
Speaker 2: Putnam County with these people. And there's a lot of
27:37
Speaker 2: people moving into Putnam County. I know, somebody point out
27:40
Speaker 2: to me that you know that about people leaving Putnam County,
27:43
Speaker 2: but I that's not current, you know. And I can
27:47
Speaker 2: tell you as somebody who lives right smack dab in
27:49
Speaker 2: the middle of Tays Valley, I know what's going in.
27:52
Speaker 2: I mean, they just put those the new homes right
27:54
Speaker 2: down from my house, a half a mile from my house,
27:56
Speaker 2: and I mean there's a bunch of people. Are we
27:59
Speaker 2: ready for the influps of people coming to Putnam County?
28:01
Speaker 2: And what are we doing to make sure we are
28:03
Speaker 2: because you know, in the city of Hurricane, you know,
28:06
Speaker 2: and that isn't in city limits. I think where they're building,
28:09
Speaker 2: I mean, how many houses are there it's.
28:11
Speaker 5: Like four to five hundred.
28:12
Speaker 2: I believe four to five hundred houses are going to
28:14
Speaker 2: be built there. There's other developments in in Windfield, a
28:18
Speaker 2: couple of different developments going on there. So adding on
28:20
Speaker 2: to some there. I know over in Buffalo they've been
28:22
Speaker 2: doing some things over there as well. Are we are
28:25
Speaker 2: we prepared or are we doing anything to get ready
28:28
Speaker 2: for these people?
28:29
Speaker 5: In some areas, we are prepared. For one example, the
28:34
Speaker 5: second phase of that hurricane where they were adding the
28:37
Speaker 5: four to five hundred houses was in the Fraser's Bottom area.
28:39
Speaker 5: They were going to add approximately three hundred. Okay, in
28:43
Speaker 5: the Fraser's Bottom area. Of course you don't have the
28:45
Speaker 5: traffic situation that you would in hurricane. But in Fraser's
28:49
Speaker 5: Bottom area, the Buffalo sewage treatment plant already has the
28:52
Speaker 5: capacity to handle that. So they'll just tunnel under the
28:56
Speaker 5: river pump the you know, everything to Buffalo and it
28:59
Speaker 5: will be treated there. So in those cases, yes, we
29:02
Speaker 5: are prepared. Uh. Some of the issues that obviously we've
29:05
Speaker 5: got to be looking at as a community is traffic. Uh.
29:10
Speaker 5: You know, we we have a traffic issue already. I mean,
29:12
Speaker 5: you you face that coming home every year, own you
29:15
Speaker 5: you you ate in line. Uh, some areas would love
29:19
Speaker 5: to have a traffic problem.
29:20
Speaker 2: How many times have I said that on the show.
29:22
Speaker 2: Go down to McDowell County and I pick on those
29:23
Speaker 2: poor people McDowell County. Uh, but any county go down
29:27
Speaker 2: and complain to them about about a traffic problem.
29:30
Speaker 5: Yes, they would love to have a traffic problem. The
29:32
Speaker 5: problem to have it is uh and uh, you know,
29:35
Speaker 5: obviously we've got to take advantage of this New Core
29:39
Speaker 5: situation and the fidelas that you know that have been
29:42
Speaker 5: announced for for Mason County just right close to our
29:45
Speaker 5: northern borders. Uh, those people are going to be living
29:48
Speaker 5: in Putnam County. I mean, uh, there's I'm not you know,
29:52
Speaker 5: slanting Mason County at all. I've got great places to
29:55
Speaker 5: live there. But a lot of those people that are
29:58
Speaker 5: currently working at New Core, I know them. They're living
30:01
Speaker 5: in Putnam County now, and we need to prepare for that.
30:06
Speaker 5: But your point taken, we need to make sure that
30:09
Speaker 5: we've got the infrastructure in place, and I know that
30:11
Speaker 5: there are studies in the works to make sure that
30:15
Speaker 5: those are you know, I guess probably roads and transportation
30:21
Speaker 5: is probably the biggest struggle. I think the utilities were
30:24
Speaker 5: probably good on. You know, we can handle that from
30:26
Speaker 5: the sewage treatment and the providing water and electric. Obviously
30:29
Speaker 5: it's not a big deal, but we can provide those.
30:33
Speaker 5: Transportation is going to be the issue, and so you know,
30:35
Speaker 5: we've got to make sure that those studies are completed
30:37
Speaker 5: and that we do whatever we need to to accommodate
30:40
Speaker 5: that the best we can.
30:41
Speaker 2: I mean, I get back to Putnham County, depending on
30:43
Speaker 2: what time I leave the office here four four thirty
30:46
Speaker 2: five in the afternoons somewhere through there. Literally, Commissioner, I
30:50
Speaker 2: live maybe two miles from the off the Tays Valley
30:53
Speaker 2: accident yesterday, and granted a lot of people were getting
30:57
Speaker 2: out of the house yesterday and washing cars and so
30:59
Speaker 2: on and so over because the warm temperatures. Literally to
31:02
Speaker 2: go two and a half miles, it's about twenty minutes.
31:05
Speaker 2: I mean, I can I can call and my wife
31:07
Speaker 2: say hey, I'm at the exit, you know, and whatever,
31:10
Speaker 2: and it's it's about fifteen to twenty minutes to drive
31:13
Speaker 2: to and have But again it's a good problem to have.
31:15
Speaker 5: Yeah, I've set in those traffic sometimes and sometimes I'll
31:20
Speaker 5: try to jump it and just go down to the
31:22
Speaker 5: hurricane exit and loop back in from the other direction.
31:25
Speaker 2: Well sometimes, well, and I tell you the traffic situation
31:27
Speaker 2: is going to get better there when the coloding exit
31:30
Speaker 2: gets over that that's going to alleviate alleviate at least
31:33
Speaker 2: some at the traffic. Yeah, you beat me to that,
31:35
Speaker 2: of course.
31:35
Speaker 5: So you know, Development Authority actually has some property right
31:40
Speaker 5: there by that exit that we're looking to develop as
31:42
Speaker 5: well for businesses among that coloding exit. But that will, uh,
31:46
Speaker 5: that will take a lot of it off of the
31:48
Speaker 5: hurricane exit and you know, speed that up for the
31:51
Speaker 5: whole valley.
31:51
Speaker 2: Now before we let you go, you get us a
31:53
Speaker 2: lot of information here today, and appreciate it. I do
31:56
Speaker 2: need to mention this one to get to the election
31:57
Speaker 2: part of it. You are up for real life this year.
32:01
Speaker 2: You were appointed to the Putnam County Commission following another
32:05
Speaker 2: commissioner leaving that you were appointed. Now you're running for
32:09
Speaker 2: the job that you've held for the last year or so, right,
32:12
Speaker 2: all right, a year now, So why should someone give
32:15
Speaker 2: you another term on the commission.
32:17
Speaker 5: I'll just look at what we've done. You know, I
32:19
Speaker 5: championed that animal shelter turnaround. That's the biggest thing that
32:24
Speaker 5: we've done. Pretty much just took that on myself. I wasn't,
32:28
Speaker 5: you know, I wasn't told by the other commissioners that
32:30
Speaker 5: this is what you need to do, you need to
32:32
Speaker 5: go fix that. We were basically an oversight board. I
32:36
Speaker 5: was basically to attend their meetings and report back to
32:38
Speaker 5: the other commissioners what's going on at the animal shelter.
32:42
Speaker 5: And they don't actually work for the commissioners, they work
32:46
Speaker 5: for the county managers. But I sort of took that
32:49
Speaker 5: on and championed that myself, and you know, we have
32:52
Speaker 5: turned that around. That's been the biggest thing that I
32:54
Speaker 5: worked on. All of these other little things that you're
32:57
Speaker 5: working on all the time, it's probably too much to list.
33:01
Speaker 5: And of course the stuff that we've talked about here today,
33:04
Speaker 5: I probably had ten other things, you know, that we
33:07
Speaker 5: could have talked about. But you know, there's only so
33:09
Speaker 5: much time. But just give me a chance to continue
33:13
Speaker 5: doing what we're doing. Think that everybody that knows me
33:17
Speaker 5: knows that. You know, I am a hard worker. I've
33:20
Speaker 5: done this again for a year now. The the amount
33:25
Speaker 5: of time that I've put into this is probably more
33:27
Speaker 5: than I imagined that it was going to be, but
33:30
Speaker 5: it's been fun. I've enjoyed it. You know, reach out
33:33
Speaker 5: to me, you know, anybody that wants to reach out
33:36
Speaker 5: to me and then discuss any of the opportunities or
33:39
Speaker 5: things that are going on in Putnam County. I'll do
33:41
Speaker 5: my best. I don't know them all yet. I'm still
33:43
Speaker 5: trying to learn the job. I've learned that government doesn't
33:46
Speaker 5: work as fast as I would like it.
33:47
Speaker 2: Too, but less than one. Yes, yeah, it took us.
33:53
Speaker 5: Just a while to get everything worked out of the
33:54
Speaker 5: animal shelter, even purchasing just a simple well it was
33:57
Speaker 5: a commercial washer and dryer, which takes a lot of
33:59
Speaker 5: gat but still, you know, I wanted things to happen
34:02
Speaker 5: in three weeks, and it happened in you know, three
34:04
Speaker 5: months or six months. So give me the opportunity. I
34:07
Speaker 5: think we're working hard for people at Putnam County. This
34:10
Speaker 5: is my full time job now. I retired from my
34:13
Speaker 5: paying job, so this is what I do. You passed
34:17
Speaker 5: up a meeting to talk about some other things in
34:20
Speaker 5: Putnam County that I was going to meet today to
34:22
Speaker 5: come up here and talk with you. So enjoy the opportunity.
34:26
Speaker 5: Love what I'm doing. Give me a chance.

Speaker 2: Do you know if the Amazon warehouse is going to
39:06
Speaker 2: be built in Putnam County? I don't know what the
39:09
Speaker 2: status of that is. And if someone if I know
39:13
Speaker 2: a commissioner Pearson just left the building, but if he
39:16
Speaker 2: is listening, he or one of the other commissioners know
39:18
Speaker 2: they have a prece event going on at I think
39:21
Speaker 2: ten o'clock over there today. So if somebody chamber, you know,
39:27
Speaker 2: those fine people that want to update me on that,
39:28
Speaker 2: I don't know what the status of that is. It
39:31
Speaker 2: was being talked about an Amazon facility. Actually, I don't
39:35
Speaker 2: think that the Development Authority folks ever came out and
39:37
Speaker 2: said it was an Amazon. It was a facility of
39:39
Speaker 2: some sort. There were some neighbors or upset about it.
39:42
Speaker 2: I'm not sure what the status of that is. If
39:44
Speaker 2: somebody can let me know, I will let you know.
39:50
Speaker 2: I mentioned this yesterday. Some discussion about term limits for
39:53
Speaker 2: those elected within the City of Charleston, the mayor and
39:56
Speaker 2: council is what we're talking about here now. The mayor
39:59
Speaker 2: has gone on record on this show as saying that
40:01
Speaker 2: she would support it. She is up for reelection this year.
40:04
Speaker 2: She does have opposition in the primary from another Democrat,
40:06
Speaker 2: and there's also a Republican running. So if she wins
40:10
Speaker 2: the primary, or whomever wins, there'll be a battle for
40:13
Speaker 2: the mayor ship in November. Either way, that'll happen.
40:20
Speaker 1: You know.
40:20
Speaker 2: She said that if she does win, this is it
40:23
Speaker 2: for her. She's not going to run again. But I'm
40:26
Speaker 2: just kind of curious, do you think there should be
40:27
Speaker 2: I mean, we talk about term limits, it's nothing new.
40:29
Speaker 2: Should there be term limits, you know, on a city
40:32
Speaker 2: council seat or a mayor seat or whatever. I'll get
40:36
Speaker 2: into this a little bit further next week because there
40:38
Speaker 2: are two members of Charleston City Council that have sort
40:42
Speaker 2: of teamed up on the subject. And there are two people,
40:44
Speaker 2: two very different people, and I'm sure they would admit
40:48
Speaker 2: to this. Who couldn't be any more different in their
40:50
Speaker 2: beliefs otherwise, but they're united on this. They are for
40:53
Speaker 2: term limits. Those council members are Joe Solomon and Shannon Snodgrass.
40:58
Speaker 2: Both are going to be on the show with me
40:59
Speaker 2: to together a week from tomorrow. Should be an interesting
41:03
Speaker 2: conversation again, that'll be Thursday the nineteenth. Both council member
41:06
Speaker 2: Shennon Snodgrass and Joe Saliva in studio with me next Thursday.
41:09
Speaker 2: So just where are you on term limits? Maybe not

44:56
Speaker 2: I said as far as the mayor's race in Charleston.
44:59
Speaker 2: I said that to mayor Goodwin would have a Democrat opposition.
45:05
Speaker 2: She does, and also said that there was a Republican running.
45:08
Speaker 2: There are actually two Republicans running. I stand corrected. Brian

Speaker 2: And I hope I pronounced that right. So I appreciate

Speaker 2: would go along with that. All right, onto the governor's

Speaker 2: with a sign that said making West Virginia affordable again
46:01
Speaker 2: and unfortunately the word Virginia was spelled incorrectly. Not not
46:08
Speaker 2: a good look for sure, and it's made national news.
46:13
Speaker 2: Friend of the show and of the company Million Nice
46:16
Speaker 2: Lee was the first person that I saw that shared
46:18
Speaker 2: it yesterday, and I'll be honest with you, I thought
46:23
Speaker 2: the governor handled it well, he replied to Amelia on
46:28
Speaker 2: social media. Quote errors like this are awful and we'll
46:32
Speaker 2: be dealt with. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
46:36
Speaker 2: End quote that's from Governor Patrick Morrissey. Is it a
46:41
Speaker 2: good look for West Virginia?
46:44
Speaker 1: No?
46:46
Speaker 2: Does it make West Virginia look bad nationwide? Probably? But
46:52
Speaker 2: I will say this, if anyone thinks the governor, whether
46:55
Speaker 2: it's Governor Morrissey, whether it was Governor Mansion, governor Tomlin governor,
46:58
Speaker 2: or any governor for that matter, or any other state
47:01
Speaker 2: or national political figures hangs or proofreads their own signs,
47:07
Speaker 2: you are sadly mistaken. When you are governor, president, attorney general, whatever,
47:13
Speaker 2: you have people that handle those things for you. It
47:16
Speaker 2: is unfortunate that someone didn't catch it, and now it
47:21
Speaker 2: has gone national. But it is what it is, and
47:27
Speaker 2: to me, my manner speak or my way of thinking,
47:31
Speaker 2: this isn't so much on the governor. Folks. Now, you
47:34
Speaker 2: may agree or disagree, and that's fine. It was not
47:38
Speaker 2: a good look. It broke yesterday. We got text to
47:40
Speaker 2: the Metro News midday about it. I mentioned it on
47:43
Speaker 2: the air and it has gone national. As a matter
47:46
Speaker 2: of fact, I googled it upstairs in the office earlier
47:49
Speaker 2: and yeah, it's it's gone national right now that the
47:53
Speaker 2: governor spoke behind a podium with his state spelled rom
47:57
Speaker 2: You know. But what I thought was really interesting about
48:00
Speaker 2: this is when I saw it shared on social media,
48:04
Speaker 2: the number of people that said, well, where's the misspelling?
48:07
Speaker 2: And I don't think that's where people. I don't think
48:09
Speaker 2: it's so much people don't know how to spell Virginia.
48:12
Speaker 2: I think it's because the mind sees it as as
48:17
Speaker 2: being correct when it actually was incorrect. But again, I
48:21
Speaker 2: feel badly. I hope that someone, you know, someone probably
48:25
Speaker 2: should have caught that to make sure that it was
48:27
Speaker 2: spelled right. But to blame the governor for this and
48:29
Speaker 2: to say look that this is this makes you know
48:33
Speaker 2: it's not on the governor. I mean, I'm sorry and
48:35
Speaker 2: I'm not trying to throw the staff under the busk.
48:37
Speaker 2: I don't know who did it, who you know was
48:40
Speaker 2: responsible whatever. I'm just saying that this is, this is
48:43
Speaker 2: I mean, a governor can't be expected to look at
48:46
Speaker 2: everything and say, okay, that's good.
48:49
Speaker 12: Go.
48:49
Speaker 2: I mean they kind of show up. Governors do that.
48:52
Speaker 2: They kind of show up. They get behind the podium,
48:54
Speaker 2: They're usually handed some notes that some staffers put together,
48:58
Speaker 2: and they may or may not look at them. I
48:59
Speaker 2: know that from my experience in state government. Sometimes they do,
49:03
Speaker 2: sometimes they don't. But do you arm them with something?
49:05
Speaker 2: And I don't blame I don't. I don't blame the
49:08
Speaker 2: governor for that. Uh, Texas. How many head coaches were
49:15
Speaker 2: fired last month? No iron team but three in West Virginia.
49:18
Speaker 2: S it's a Texter. All right. Let's go to the
49:21
Speaker 2: capitol right now. Let's check in on the boys. Wilson, Meadows,
49:25
Speaker 2: how you guys doing doing well? Doing well? Okay, you're
49:29
Speaker 2: both there because yesterday, Meadows, you were out getting coffee
49:32
Speaker 2: when I put Wilson on the air. How do you
49:34
Speaker 2: know that's where I want? Because he told everybody you
49:36
Speaker 2: were out getting okay, all right, it was real simple.
49:39
Speaker 2: He was taking care of the team. You know I
49:41
Speaker 2: dig my coffee. Did you get one for Wilson? I asked,
49:44
Speaker 2: He didn't want one. I asked Stephanie. She wanted one.
49:47
Speaker 2: I got one for her. Okay, there you go, h
49:49
Speaker 2: it's a true story. I get the Wilson, I get
49:52
Speaker 2: the You don't strike me as much of a coffee drinker,
49:54
Speaker 2: are you?
49:55
Speaker 10: Oh that that's totally eight degrees wrong.
49:59
Speaker 2: I just took it down continuously. Okay, I didn't know
50:01
Speaker 2: straight black Well, I was gonna say, and with your
50:04
Speaker 2: schedule I could see you, you know, because after you
50:06
Speaker 2: were at the Capitol. Today you're calling a game from
50:08
Speaker 2: Morgantown High School over at the at the Country Road shootout.
50:11
Speaker 10: Right, yeah, yeah, five thirty. They're taking on Paul Blazer
50:14
Speaker 10: out of Ashlet. It should be a really good game.
50:15
Speaker 11: By the way.
50:16
Speaker 2: You you appear to me, Wilson, to be a kind
50:18
Speaker 2: of guy that would drink like a really frothy lap
50:22
Speaker 2: a lap a lache something or a not. Oh yeah,
50:24
Speaker 2: but you got it nailed.
50:26
Speaker 10: There's nothing better than, uh, you know, two shots of
50:29
Speaker 10: soy milk along with some hazel nuts and a little
50:33
Speaker 10: bit of peppermint to go on the side. Obviously you
50:35
Speaker 10: got to get some bold foam and chocolate surf on top.
50:37
Speaker 2: Yep, you nailed it. Yeah, Well that's it's the northern
50:40
Speaker 2: guy coming out in you. It's because you're from northern
50:42
Speaker 2: West Virginia. You people don't put slaw on your hot
50:44
Speaker 2: dogs either, But that's another story for another time. Yeah,
50:47
Speaker 2: but put on a pink shirt and go get my
50:48
Speaker 2: cafe Lotze. You got it right, buddy. All right, what
50:51
Speaker 2: do you guys got coming up on your big big
50:53
Speaker 2: show today?
50:54
Speaker 10: House speaker Roger Hanshaw is going to join us right
50:56

Speaker 10: as well, and we're going to get into e Verify today.
51:07
Speaker 10: My man is itching to talk about e Verify.
51:10
Speaker 2: I don't like it well, and based on what I
51:13
Speaker 2: saw on social media, TJ, I think some people are
51:15
Speaker 2: interested in talking to you about it. Well, are you
51:19
Speaker 2: saying I'm an gal alien? Is that what the s No? No,
51:22
Speaker 2: I'm just saying that sometimes you write commentaries that unless
51:25
Speaker 2: it responds for people, and sometimes it's not always favorable.
51:27
Speaker 2: But that's what it's all about it's about discussion. It's
51:30
Speaker 2: another burden on business. It's government's burden. They should do it.
51:34
Speaker 10: Stop putting more and more on business for people that
51:37
Speaker 10: are trying to meet payroll.
51:38
Speaker 2: And frankly, the people that are putting it on have
51:41
Speaker 2: never made a payroll in their lives. They have no
51:44
Speaker 2: idea how hard it is. So yeah, I'm a little
51:47
Speaker 2: see what I mean, See what I mean. Maybe he
51:49
Speaker 2: shouldn't have had that last cup of coffee.
51:52
Speaker 10: I'm just saying, hey, man, I don't know how you
51:54
Speaker 10: expect government to, you know, verify employment.
51:56
Speaker 2: They can't even spell the state's name right. Well he
51:59
Speaker 2: said it, by the way, I will true. All right,
