- 0:02No, be afraid.
- 0:06Be very afraid.
- 0:15Kearns: 25.
- 0:16Uh, ma actually no,
- 0:18Ryan: It should be better.
- 0:20Kearns: So
- 0:23Jon: We've had a stretch of about seven or eight years that
- 0:27have said, Hey, hold my beer.
- 0:30Kearns: Yeah, that's true.
- 0:32Ryan: Hold my case of beer.
- 0:34Kearns: remember in 2020 when somebody was like, uh, you know, there's
- 0:36this weird virus coming outta China.
- 0:39And I was like, yeah, you know, all the things you have
- 0:40to worry about more than that.
- 0:42Like, let me give you a, let me rattle off a list of everything
- 0:45that's wrong right now.
- 0:46And then that happened and I was like, I'm sorry, I was, that was wrong.
- 0:51Jon: did you include an incel husband going after his wife in your list?
- 0:59Kearns: did not,
- 1:01Ryan: no, that wasn't on my bucket list
- 1:03Jon: Well.
- 1:04Ryan: introduced it to us.
- 1:05Jon: It's in New Year's Evil.
- 1:08Ryan: Such a great concept, but I'm gonna say it, it lands, but it doesn't land
- 1:14Kearns: crash
- 1:16Ryan: the concept.
- 1:18Well, it, the concept's cool with the, you know, every murder happens at 12 o'clock,
- 1:23midnight across the United States.
- 1:25Brilliant concept, brilliant idea of like we follow in the killer and all
- 1:30that, and the mystery and the suspense.
- 1:32And then you have these horrible mosh pits for five minutes straight.
- 1:36I counted them 20 minutes of mosh pit action.
- 1:40That's not real mosh pit action.
- 1:43Jon: Yeah.
- 1:43Ryan: are
- 1:43Jon: In a movie that's under, in a movie that's under an hour and a
- 1:47half, that's a lot of, lot of moshing.
- 1:50Mm-hmm.
- 1:51Ryan: They could have made it a, like a Tales from the crypt episode.
- 1:55A
- 1:56Kearns: Definitely
- 1:57Ryan: oh.
- 1:57Yeah.
- 1:59Kearns: I mean,
- 2:01Jon: It definitely did.
- 2:02Kearns: it to be a big stinker, and it actually kind of rose above that a
- 2:05little bit for me, so I was like, that's
- 2:09Jon: Yeah.
- 2:10It's not big stinker.
- 2:11it's got some, cult status.
- 2:14It's, okay.
- 2:14Kearns: Yeah.
- 2:15New Year's evil, eh?
- 2:17Jon: It's okay.
- 2:18Kearns: to be on the poster
- 2:20Ryan: compared to the others.
- 2:21I mean, like Friday the 13th, um, I think Terror Train came
- 2:25out that year too, right?
- 2:27Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 2:28Ryan: I mean, you're comparing it to all those, I,
- 2:31Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 2:31Ryan: know, I, yeah, I mean, like, I didn't hear about
- 2:34this until John introduced it.
- 2:36I love the poster though, popping his head out of the calendar.
- 2:40Jon: Yeah.
- 2:41They, they create some cool aesthetics.
- 2:44They have an, okay story.
- 2:46They don't have much of an effects budget.
- 2:50They fall short in
- 2:52some of the character building, in some of the kills.
- 2:55It's, but it's okay.
- 2:58Kearns: Yeah, it was kind of
- 3:00Jon: that's the movie poster review.
- 3:02Kearns: Yeah,
- 3:06Makes it more perfect.
- 3:08But, um, do we have any notable actors in
- 3:10Jon: one's okay.
- 3:11well you found one.
- 3:13Kearns: I did Grant, uh, is it Grant Kramer, Mike Tobacco, please?
- 3:19Well,
- 3:19Ryan: Yep.
- 3:19Kearns: Mike Tobacco and Killer Clowns for Matter space.
- 3:21Actually, actually, he's Grant Kramer though.
- 3:23I don't even know his name in this movie.
- 3:28Jon: He's the son.
- 3:31Yep, he's the son Derek.
- 3:32And we get, Roz Kelly in the lead role who probably most notably is Fonzie's
- 3:40girlfriend on Happy Days Pinky Tuscadero.
- 3:43Ryan: Hey,
- 3:47Jon: But at the end of the day, the biggest claim to fame for this
- 3:50movie is the production company.
- 3:52That this is like one of the early Golden and Globus Canon films
- 3:58Kearns: Can you,
- 3:59Jon: when they took over a Canon
- 4:01Kearns: was
- 4:01Jon: s
- 4:01Kearns: can you give us a little bit more on that for people like me
- 4:04who have no idea what that means?
- 4:09Jon: You have no idea what it means, but I guarantee you've
- 4:12seen movies that they released.
- 4:16so Manam Golan and y Globus are movie producers, or one was a movie producer.
- 4:23In 79, they took over Cannon, which was, you know, it was cranking along
- 4:28with some, you know, low budget action.
- 4:30And they sort of stuck with the low budget action, mostly idea, you know, some
- 4:37horror, some other stuff thrown in there.
- 4:39And, you know, released B-level movies with some big name actors.
- 4:46Like they had missing an action.
- 4:48They had Delta Force
- 4:52Death Wish two, life Force Invasion, USA, they had Sylvester Stallone's
- 4:59alternative to Beverly Hills cops, since he couldn't, wasn't gonna get that role.
- 5:03He made Cobra.
- 5:05That was a Cannon movie.
- 5:06Um
- 5:07Kearns: imagery
- 5:09Jon: mm-hmm.
- 5:09Ryan: Yes,
- 5:12Jon: Yep.
- 5:13Yep.
- 5:14And that was his idea for Beverly Hills Cop.
- 5:16He didn't want it to be a, funny movie.
- 5:18He wanted it to be Cobra.
- 5:20Kearns: with Beverly Hills Cop too.
- 5:21The comedy versus the seriousness of it, like perfect through line.
- 5:27Sloan would've screwed that up
- 5:29Jon: Yeah.
- 5:30Kearns: my mom will shoot is
- 5:31Jon: Yeah.
- 5:32Kearns: Demolition Man has a lot of humor and it hits pretty well
- 5:38Ryan: the
- 5:38Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 5:40I mean, Canon also had over the top with Stallone, the arm wrestling movie.
- 5:49They had Texas Chainsaw Massacre too.
- 5:52Ryan: classic.
- 5:53Jon: They had a nice little, and then a whole mess load of martial arts movies.
- 5:56They had the Ninja trilogy, which is a lot of fun to watch and
- 6:00like they had a lot of really.
- 6:04Decent B level movies with, decent casts.
- 6:08And then, yeah, as the eighties went on, they sort of devolved into more of
- 6:12the sequels break two electric boogaloo.
- 6:16Um, they went to, uh, Superman for the Quest, for the Quest
- 6:23for plot, uh, piece rather.
- 6:25Um,
- 6:26Kearns: and Richard Pryor in that one and they couldn't get it together?
- 6:30Ryan: No,
- 6:30Jon: definitely Richard Pryor.
- 6:32It was definitely Richard Pryor.
- 6:33Ryan: Pryor's.
- 6:34The third one.
- 6:35He's the third one with the computer.
- 6:36Yep.
- 6:37And then the fourth one is
- 6:39Jon: remember the fourth one.
- 6:40Then
- 6:41Ryan: and John Fryer's nephew.
- 6:43And they create nuclear Man.
- 6:46I said that wrong.
- 6:48Not Gene Wilder.
- 6:48Gene Hackman.
- 6:49Wow.
- 6:50Kearns: saw
- 6:50Ryan: Gene Hackman.
- 6:50Kearns: Wilder.
- 6:51So Nuclear Man.
- 6:53Is that the one with the, other sun guy that Superman like
- 6:56kills by putting him in the sun?
- 6:58I I've seen that
- 7:00Ryan: Yes.
- 7:02The third one's got the bizarro where, uh, Christopher Reve
- 7:06has the five o'clock shadow,
- 7:09Kearns: I do remember that.
- 7:11Ryan: evil Superman.
- 7:12Kearns: lot of
- 7:14Jon: And then
- 7:15Ryan: But hold
- 7:16Jon: they made, they made a lot.
- 7:17They made a lot.
- 7:18Ryan: blood score.
- 7:19Kearns: Wait, they
- 7:20Jon: yep.
- 7:21Bloodsport.
- 7:21I was getting to one more.
- 7:23Yeah, one more of their big flops.
- 7:27Probably their biggest flop.
- 7:30Um,
- 7:32they did make a movie called Ate too, but that's not the way I'm going.
- 7:37Ryan: Was it the sequel?
- 7:39Jon: Nope.
- 7:39It, they may have made the worst IP movie ever.
- 7:44They got their hands on an, an intellectual property and
- 7:48released Masters of the Universe
- 7:53the eighties.
- 7:54He-Man movie,
- 7:56Ryan: Franklin Angel couldn't even save it.
- 7:58Kearns: Masters of the universe, reeks
- 8:00Jon: they tried,
- 8:02Ryan: It does,
- 8:04Jon: it reeks
- 8:05Kearns: It reeks.
- 8:06Yeah, that's a good point.
- 8:09Ryan: but then when you compare 'em, would you take Masters of
- 8:11the Universe or Flash Gordon?
- 8:13Kearns: I find a little
- 8:14Jon: Flash Gordon.
- 8:15Kearns: No.
- 8:16Yeah.
- 8:16See John
- 8:18Jon: I love Flash Gordon in part 'cause of how amazing the use of
- 8:23color is in that, like every scene is.
- 8:26Just different colors.
- 8:27And you get the queen soundtrack and I like flash.
- 8:32And if you get that on 4K, those colors pop.
- 8:36Those colors pop so nice on 4K,
- 8:40Ryan: It's the red.
- 8:42red is
- 8:42Jon: it's the,
- 8:43Ryan: your
- 8:43Jon: it's the red.
- 8:45But then he gets to that place with, Timothy Dalton, and it's all greens and
- 8:49you know, like a, that nice bright green.
- 8:53And you get the reds when, they're in Ming's area, like,
- 8:59Ryan: Okay.
- 8:59Jon: yeah.
- 9:00And then, then that last scene with the poor, practical effects of
- 9:06the Hawkman flying in for attack.
- 9:09I love flash.
- 9:11I love that movie.
- 9:12I may have to watch that tomorrow.
- 9:13Kearns: not a bad
- 9:14Ryan: flesh,
- 9:16Kearns: back to New Year's evil.
- 9:17Real quick because we will talk about everything but this
- 9:20movie, if we're not careful.
- 9:21what is the plot of this movie?
- 9:25Listen,
- 9:27Jon: All right.
- 9:27Um,
- 9:29Kearns: There's a reason for that.
- 9:30All right, LA.
- 9:31Sorry, John.
- 9:34Jon: la New Year's Eve.
- 9:36Diane is hosting a, what they're calling a punk rock, new Year's, but then
- 9:42they alternately call it a new wave, new Year's, and the music is closer
- 9:47to New Wave than like what you would imagine punk sounded like at that point.
- 9:52Ryan: Yes, a hundred
- 9:54Jon: Um, so she's hosting, it's basically Dick Clark's rocking New Year's with.
- 10:01A woman hosting in some, some bands that no one would ever, ever heard of.
- 10:06Kearns: it's
- 10:07Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 10:08And
- 10:11Ryan: that's the name of the band who sings the
- 10:13Jon: yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:14Ryan: in the, I think in the beginning, right?
- 10:17Like on stage?
- 10:19Jon: Yes.
- 10:20Kearns: stuff?
- 10:20By the way?
- 10:21There's nothing.
- 10:22There's no
- 10:23Ryan: I did.
- 10:24Jon: never did.
- 10:25Kearns: way to find anything that they've ever done.
- 10:28Ryan: I had an r and b artist come up after I looked it up, it was like
- 10:32the song and then it's like all r and b and I'm like, what is this?
- 10:35And they're relating it to it.
- 10:38Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 10:42So, so Diane is hosting her New Year's Eve party, when she gets a phone call
- 10:47from a, guy with a voice modulator
- 10:49Ryan: Evil,
- 10:49Jon: who vows to kill at the stroke of midnight in each time zone.
- 10:56Ryan: is
- 10:57Awesome concept.
- 10:58Kearns: modulator a little bit because Wow.
- 11:02Ryan: Hello
- 11:03Kearns: It sounds like
- 11:03Ryan: kd.
- 11:05Kearns: the
- 11:05Ryan: evil.
- 11:07Kearns: that you have to use.
- 11:09Ryan: I thought I was watching.
- 11:10I thought I was
- 11:11Jon: it does,
- 11:12Ryan: I thought I was watching WBF on and it was ka.
- 11:15talk.
- 11:16I was like
- 11:17what are we doing here?
- 11:18Kearns: at all.
- 11:21Jon: but it's like a higher pitch though than like, than the normal
- 11:26sort of esophagal voice box thing.
- 11:30It's like a higher and like goofier sound even, you know, like this is,
- 11:38Kearns: That's actually a pretty good impression.
- 11:41Ryan: that is
- 11:42Jon: and then after his initial call, he begins killing and
- 11:48recording them and calling back and playing his tapes of the murders.
- 11:55Taunting Diane and the police officers until west coast Pacific.
- 12:01Time it, we near midnight and all secrets are revealed.
- 12:09Kearns: We get some BTK
- 12:11bit
- 12:11Ryan: Yeah.
- 12:12Kearns: was saying, there's a lot of
- 12:13Ryan: Yeah.
- 12:14Kearns: that just wasn't achieved whatsoever.
- 12:16Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 12:17Kearns: time to go into the areas they should have and stay there for a while.
- 12:21It's, yeah, I mean, that's a cool plot.
- 12:24cool
- 12:25Ryan: And
- 12:28Jon: Yeah.
- 12:29Ryan: say the first, the first kill real quick.
- 12:31It doesn't even happen at midnight, right?
- 12:34Like
- 12:34Kearns: I don't know.
- 12:35Jon: Yvonne.
- 12:38Ryan: Yeah.
- 12:39Jon: He,
- 12:39Ryan: Like he
- 12:40Jon: he.
- 12:42Killed, I think it's her manager, is Yvonne, her manager.
- 12:45I believe the way they talk about her later on, that she
- 12:49was keeping his money from him.
- 12:50And Spoiler
- 12:54Kearns: right?
- 12:54Like you're gonna go see New Year's Evil, I wonder if there are any listeners
- 12:59who are going out after we're doing the episodes and watching the movies and
- 13:02be like, those guys are way off base.
- 13:03That's like Oscar potential right there.
- 13:07Ryan: Uh, please write that in the comments.
- 13:09Please,
- 13:10Jon: I
- 13:11Ryan: please write that in the comments.
- 13:13But I mean, it just me off on the motif, you know,
- 13:18on the
- 13:19Jon: On his motive
- 13:20Ryan: Like his
- 13:21Jon: or the, oh, the motif.
- 13:22His motive,
- 13:23Ryan: his
- 13:24Jon: yeah.
- 13:25Kearns: and motive in the same
- 13:26Ryan: I
- 13:27Jon: Yeah.
- 13:27Kearns: gonna resist the
- 13:29Jon: I wasn't,
- 13:29wasn't sure.
- 13:31Kearns: A motive
- 13:33Ryan: the motive,
- 13:35motive,
- 13:36the motive,
- 13:37Jon: I mean.
- 13:37Ryan: he's doing it at midnight and then this is the one kill that's not
- 13:40on midnight, which is interesting though, 'cause it's more at like, it's
- 13:44not part of the plan, it's just bonus.
- 13:46So you kind of get a little bit more into the psych
- 13:48Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 13:49Ryan: which is
- 13:50Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 13:50Ryan: but it's like,
- 13:51Jon: Well,
- 13:51Ryan: it's just, it's a throw off.
- 13:53Jon: that's also the, death that may, you should realize very early on that this
- 14:00is more personal than a random lunatic calling into a show and killing people.
- 14:07They said that there's a personal connection.
- 14:10It hit the first target is someone close to Diane, and then you find out
- 14:15at the end that it is very personal.
- 14:18It's her husband.
- 14:20His final target is Diane.
- 14:22He's got some very incel like views on women.
- 14:30Ryan: Yeah, he
- 14:30Jon: It's kind of ahead of its time in that way.
- 14:32I mean,
- 14:331980 was not.
- 14:37Ryan: Okay.
- 14:37Fair, on that
- 14:39Kearns: 1980
- 14:41Ryan: Polish Seltzer.
- 14:41Okay.
- 14:42Kearns: was, um, it wasn't as in your face
- 14:44Jon: No, it was.
- 14:46Kearns: who ran
- 14:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 14:56Yeah.
- 14:56Yeah, yeah.
- 14:57Like nine 1980s was more of an institu, institutionalized misogyny than
- 15:04we have now.
- 15:05Kearns: Like me, I'm gonna go on a
- 15:09Jon: Yeah.
- 15:10Kearns: Nobody likes me.
- 15:12Jon: I haven't, I haven't showered in three weeks.
- 15:14No girls will date me.
- 15:16What's wrong with women?
- 15:17Kearns: because they suck.
- 15:19Jon: Nope.
- 15:20Ryan: I went
- 15:20Jon: Nope.
- 15:21Ryan: I went with Ernest, saves Christmas immediately.
- 15:23Ernest p Bullhorn.
- 15:24I'm sorry.
- 15:25I went total opposite.
- 15:27I was like, Vern.
- 15:27Vern.
- 15:29Kearns: But yeah, I mean the misogyny kick, uh, one thing they
- 15:31did have in the seventies and eighties though was misogyny.
- 15:34And, uh, this movie's got tons of it, but it's
- 15:37Ryan: Yep.
- 15:38Kearns: like a subcategory.
- 15:41Jon: Yeah.
- 15:42Yeah,
- 15:43Ryan: Oh,
- 15:44Jon: yeah,
- 15:47yeah.
- 15:48It's there.
- 15:49Ryan: it's like,
- 15:49Jon: It exists in the universe.
- 15:51Ryan: it's, it's a,
- 15:52Kearns: Sorry, Ryan.
- 15:53Ryan: yeah,
- 15:54Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 15:54Ryan: slash No, no, you're good.
- 15:55It's a decent slasher that, you know, it fits, it's the mold
- 15:59of why it's a Cole Classic.
- 16:01But I would say this would, I love to see a remake Yes.
- 16:05If done correctly with the, with utilizing the same concept, maybe changing a few
- 16:10things around, you know, throwing it out there, ladies and gentlemen, maybe
- 16:15like have someone else do the killing still make it the husband behind it.
- 16:21But he was like the puppet mess of the entire time.
- 16:23So that twist ending, we will talk about, can turn into the
- 16:28husband more It's a little dreary still, of course, as we'll talk.
- 16:33But, but that's how it should end.
- 16:35It shouldn't be like, 'cause like she's, I mean, she's cheating on her husband.
- 16:41She treats her son like shit and it No, I mean, not like shit, but she's like
- 16:45Jon: I mean,
- 16:46Ryan: him,
- 16:47Jon: yeah.
- 16:47She's not like openly having affairs.
- 16:50She's just very career driven and it's, made apparent near the
- 16:56end that she's the breadwinner.
- 16:58Ryan: Yeah.
- 16:59I mean, how she was like caressing her agent in that,
- 17:03Jon: Yeah.
- 17:04Like, I mean, she, she's definitely not like the most loving dotting wife,
- 17:11but she's, you know, she's thought she's making a living, you know, she's,
- 17:18yeah.
- 17:19And you know that, I think to this day, that's something that certain
- 17:25people have a hard time with.
- 17:27Kearns: Well, yeah,
- 17:28Jon: My wife makes more money than me.
- 17:30I know.
- 17:31That's perfect.
- 17:32May if you make enough more money than me, I don't have to go to work anymore.
- 17:36Kearns: At all.
- 17:37Just stay home and tidy up the place.
- 17:39But it is,
- 17:41Jon: Yeah, I can be.
- 17:42I can.
- 17:43I would be a great, stay at home Cat Dad.
- 17:48Kearns: be,
- 17:48Ryan: Mr. Mom, two.
- 17:50Kearns: him fighting
- 17:51Jon: Yeah,
- 17:52I could do that.
- 17:55Ryan: Come on.
- 17:56Jon: that movie.
- 17:57I love Michael Keaton though.
- 17:58So
- 17:59Kearns: That's true.
- 18:00Michael Keaton's another great eighties star
- 18:02Ryan: Multiplicity does come up once in a blue moon at work.
- 18:07Jon: Multiplicity comes up as often as I can work it in.
- 18:11Kearns: I think I said I like pizza, Steve, today because I was presented with
- 18:14Surprise Pizza today, which was wonderful.
- 18:17Jon: I think you did.
- 18:20I think,
- 18:20Kearns: I
- 18:21Jon: I think you may have,
- 18:22Ryan: I like pizza.
- 18:24Jon: so be, before we dive back into some of the more serious New
- 18:28Year's evil topics, how about a game
- 18:31Kearns: Oh yeah,
- 18:33Ryan: the last one of the year.
- 18:35Jon: the last game of the year?
- 18:36Kearns: last game of the year.
- 18:38Jon: I think we pretty much are too, but the last game of the year is real
- 18:43or fake holiday themed movie titles,
- 18:50Ryan: Ooh, okay.
- 18:51All horror
- 18:52Jon: right?
- 18:52Ryan: or are we going all over
- 18:53Jon: Yeah, no, they, they're all horror.
- 18:55Everything, on here is either a real horror movie or a horror movie I made up.
- 19:01Ryan: Alright.
- 19:03Ready for
- 19:04Jon: let's start,
- 19:04Kearns: I am
- 19:05Jon: let's start with, and I, I just, I, before we start, I wanna
- 19:10point out, this is the first one Allison didn't do well with,
- 19:16Ryan: What was her score?
- 19:18Jon: and she got about five.
- 19:19Kearns: there 10.
- 19:22Okay.
- 19:23Jon: 10.
- 19:24Ryan: Five outta 10.
- 19:25She's usually
- 19:25Jon: she,
- 19:26Ryan: outta
- 19:26Jon: she's usually running like, yeah.
- 19:29I mean, she also knows my, game, so it's usually very easy for her
- 19:34to hear what's me and what's not.
- 19:36So let's start number one, independence.
- 19:41Slay the sleepy town of Chestnut Grove Awakens once a year to host the biggest
- 19:49fireworks display in the region.
- 19:52Problem is three killers have escaped a mental institute and have carved a
- 19:58path of violence through the festivities
- 20:02Ryan: It's a really good log line.
- 20:04Kearns: or mental institute is my question.
- 20:08I.
- 20:09Ryan: Chestnuts
- 20:10Jon: tech.
- 20:10Ryan: me.
- 20:11Jon: Technically, I wrote institute and said institution,
- 20:14so it's really just, I can't read.
- 20:17Kearns: Mind
- 20:18Ryan: It's the chestnuts though.
- 20:20Kearns: mind games.
- 20:22It sounds a lot
- 20:23Ryan: Fake.
- 20:24Jon: Nah.
- 20:24Kearns: it sounds a lot like Uncle
- 20:27Ryan: Yeah.
- 20:29Uncle Sam with Devil's Rejects Fake.
- 20:32Jon: of you said fake already.
- 20:34So fake.
- 20:35Kearns: Mental Institute is messing me up boy.
- 20:38It is messing me up.
- 20:40I'm gonna go with
- 20:42Ryan: the institute.
- 20:43Kearns: because I don't think, yep.
- 20:46Jon: It's it's fake.
- 20:48Kearns: Institute.
- 20:51Ryan: It was Chestnut, the town of Chestnuts.
- 20:55Jon: Chestnut Grove.
- 20:57Kearns: What do you come up with?
- 20:57This shit.
- 20:59Ryan: Is, is Rourke there milking farm
- 21:03Jon: Yeah, the, that's where the milking farm is.
- 21:06It's alright.
- 21:07Yeah.

- 21:12All right.
- 21:13Number two, carnage for Christmas.
- 21:19A true crime podcaster faces off with a ghost reenacting the
- 21:24murders of a historical killer.
- 21:28Kearns: hmm.
- 21:30Ryan: He likes history.
- 21:34Jon: I like podcasts too,
- 21:36Ryan: do.
- 21:36Kearns: And ghosts
- 21:38Jon: crime ones.
- 21:39Kearns: together.

- 21:43Ryan: fake.
- 21:45Kearns: Yay.
- 21:46on the
- 21:46Jon: real.
- 21:47Ryan: Ah.
- 21:49All right.
- 21:49One for one.
- 21:52How?
- 21:52I gotta ask, how did they shoot that?
- 21:54Because I feel like that's like a POV style for some reason.
- 21:57Jon: No, but it's.
- 21:59It's pretty low budget.
- 22:00It's halfway decent, actually, surprisingly, I did not
- 22:03expect to enjoy it at all.
- 22:05And it was all right.
- 22:07Kearns: Okay.
- 22:08Jon: It was all right.
- 22:08And, you know, number three, boxing Day
- 22:16Kearns: Hmm.

- 22:27by a vicious killer in headgear.
- 22:31Ryan: Hmm.
- 22:32Kearns: Ugh.
- 22:35Ryan: I know this one's a tough one.
- 22:37Kearns: I don't know.
- 22:40Ryan: I feel like there's a horror movie called Boxing Day too, but
- 22:42I don't think that's the premise.
- 22:44I.
- 22:46Kearns: Killer in headgear.
- 22:47It's too Tse for John.
- 22:49It feels like too.
- 22:50It feels too, I don't know, plain, which was, I
- 22:57ball here.
- 23:01Ryan: yeah.
- 23:02what I'm gonna
- 23:05trifecta?

- 23:11Jon: This one is fake.
- 23:13Kearns: Aw,
- 23:15Ryan: Okay.
- 23:15Jon: That is fake.
- 23:16Ryan: if you said real.
- 23:18Jon: That is fake.
- 23:19If this were a real movie, it would've been, we would've done it already.
- 23:23If this were a real movie, we would've done it already.
- 23:27Ryan: right after April.

- 24:12Kearns: like that's
- 24:13Ryan: star Trek four.
- 24:16Jon: Have you ever seen a fat whale?
- 24:19It's not baited.
- 24:19It's a legitimate question.
- 24:21I've never seen a fat whale.
- 24:22Ryan: they're big
- 24:23Kearns: used to use all of their fat for oil.
- 24:28Jon: All right, fair enough.
- 24:29They have blubber, but they're not fat.
- 24:32Like,
- 24:33Kearns: They're in the proper format.
- 24:35Jon: they live a lot longer than we do usually.
- 24:37So
- 24:38Ryan: percent.
- 24:38Jon: we kill
- 24:39Kearns: lot longer.
- 24:41Ryan: It's a hard one.
- 24:42Kearns: I think I'm gonna go real on this one.
- 24:45I really don't want to though.
- 24:47I really don't want to
- 24:49Ryan: You know what?
- 24:51Hmm?
- 24:53This is a hard one.

- 25:07Fake.
- 25:09Jon: Yeah.
- 25:10Ryan: This is, this is like, I'm like in it to win it,
- 25:13but this is a hard one, John.
- 25:15Like I'm nervous what you have planned for next year.
- 25:20'cause Yeah, I don't, I
- 25:24Jon: I'm already thinking about 'em.

- 26:09Ryan: When he said that,
- 26:11was like, oh man, I messed up.
- 26:13Kearns: where I feel like there's breadcrumbs.
- 26:14I'm gonna stop going down those paths.
- 26:17Jon: Number six.

- 27:03It's a good title.
- 27:05can see the monsters coming out from the screen, just
- 27:08frantic people dying everywhere.
- 27:10It's like, welcome to dairy somewhat.

- 27:18Kearns: Yay.
- 27:19And I'm
- 27:20Jon: real, real, real.

- 29:00Jon: I'm sorry.
- 29:01That one's real.
- 29:02Ryan: What a twist.
- 29:04What a twist.
- 29:04Kearns: real.
- 29:05I just didn't think it was possible.
- 29:10Jon: It's so bad too.
- 29:11Ryan: Is it like a
- 29:12Jon: All right.
- 29:13Ryan: It's a rip off.
- 29:14Jon: I mean, it's a giant killer, jackalope and some evil bunnies.
- 29:19Kearns: like they plot of blackburns, wendigo but instead of wendigo, it's a
- 29:24jackalope that drives you insane in the forests and like drags, off your mates
- 29:30and then they return all messed up.
- 29:32should do that.
- 29:35We will
- 29:36Ryan: Sold.
- 29:36Kearns: to make
- 29:37Jon: I'm in
- 29:38Kearns: Tens of
- 29:39Jon: tens, tens of dollars.
- 29:43Tens,
- 29:43Ryan: got this.
- 29:45Jon: okay.
- 29:46Number eight, ashes Wednesday.
- 29:52On one of the holiest days of the Christian calendar, a defrocked
- 29:57priest roams the streets of Manhattan, armed with a flame thrower,
- 30:03punishing any sinner he meets.
- 30:06Ryan: this to be real.
- 30:08I really do want this to be real.
- 30:09If it's not,
- 30:13does he have an Irish accent that makes it 10 times better?
- 30:17Jon: Yes.
- 30:18And he is drunk.
- 30:21Yes.
- 30:22And he's drunk.
- 30:24Ryan: This is a hard one.
- 30:25'cause this, this can't happen,
- 30:30especially in New York.
- 30:33Kearns: I already know my answer, but I'm gonna wait for Ryan to say his first.
- 30:39Ryan: Hmm.
- 30:40I'm gonna go fake.
- 30:41Kearns: 'cause you would relish the opportunity to say defrocked.
- 30:45The defrocked was like, you just, oh, your joy
- 30:51Jon: It's fake.
- 30:52Yeah.
- 30:52That one's fake.
- 30:54Ryan: That.
- 30:54Can we make that movie next after the Jackalope,
- 30:57Kearns: a
- 30:58Jon: Absolutely.
- 31:00Ryan: Liam Neeson as the priest?
- 31:02Kearns: Four
- 31:03Jon: Yeah.
- 31:04Ryan: Yes.
- 31:07Jon: All right.
- 31:09I think Kerns is gonna like number nine.
- 31:11We may have to add it to the list next year.
- 31:14Kearns: Real
- 31:16Jon: nine,
- 31:18Ryan: hmm.
- 31:19Jon: earth Day.
- 31:22Ryan: Earth Day.
- 31:23Jon: The world.
- 31:24The world Awakes on April 22nd to find gigantic Eldridge horrors
- 31:30have taken over as they slept.
- 31:33Now, Charlie and Tara Lovecraft are the only ones who can stop
- 31:40the horrors that have arisen from their grandfather's words.
- 31:48Ryan: There's so many tells, but you don't know.
- 31:51I don't have any.
- 31:51Kearns: too racist to procreate?
- 31:56Jon: I mean, it's a movie.
- 31:59They make up kids for everybody.
- 32:01Kearns: That's true.
- 32:03I thought so.
- 32:03A fact you would've already known.
- 32:04So it doesn't factor into me saying real or fake.
- 32:06Ryan: he's trying to bring you in here.
- 32:09If it's a fake, it could be real.
- 32:12Kearns: feel like I would've seen this movie.
- 32:15If I knew about it though,
- 32:17on
- 32:17Ryan: Could be
- 32:17Kearns: year and stuff like that.
- 32:19I don't know if it's, easily accessible.
- 32:24Ryan: 1976.
- 32:25Kearns: Damn.
- 32:27Ryan: No, I'm joking.
- 32:28Jon: I didn't, give a year.
- 32:30Kearns: Which is fine.
- 32:31You don't give a year for any of them.
- 32:32I'm not gonna pry.
- 32:33Ryan: Fake.
- 32:35Kearns: it's fake.
- 32:39Jon: It is fake.
- 32:41Kearns: Yeah.
- 32:43Ryan: All right.
- 32:43Jon: might be, this might be the one of the fakes that I want to be the most real.
- 32:49Kearns: Yeah.
- 32:50Jon: I want that one to be real more than any of the other ones.
- 32:54Kearns: Like I've rewatched the movie monsters probably three or four times.
- 32:57Just 'cause you don't get enough Kullu esque Goodness.
- 33:00In this world, monsters is very, very limited.
- 33:04Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 33:05Kearns: good movie.
- 33:06It's not great, but it's good.
- 33:08Jon: Yeah.
- 33:09Yeah.
- 33:09It's all right.
- 33:09It's not bad.
- 33:10It's not bad.
- 33:11Dark continent was not great.
- 33:14Ryan: what about the lighthouse?
- 33:17Jon: Well,
- 33:18Ryan: lighthouse.
- 33:19Jon: monsters.
- 33:20Kearns: was not good.
- 33:21like it?
- 33:22No, it's an action The
- 33:24of what
- 33:24Jon: Yeah.
- 33:24Kearns: after the spread.
- 33:25And Monsters is a cool concept because like that's compelling stuff.
- 33:30They're over the wall, they're walking by the Texaco.
- 33:32It's neat.
- 33:34and you see
- 33:35kill, like they're not just cute little big things.
- 33:37They're 90 meters tall too, is a, they're kaiju.
- 33:42but yeah, dark
- 33:43Ryan: that is totally,
- 33:45Kearns: the lighthouse is a masterpiece.
- 33:47Way better than monsters was.
- 33:49Ryan: loved it.
- 33:49And you know.
- 33:50The vibes of Lovecraft and especially Kullu vibes are like very, very hidden.
- 33:56And it's like the tales from like Willem Defoe's character.
- 34:00haven't, I haven't seen it in a long while.
- 34:02Last time I saw it, I was in, oh, I was in love with it.
- 34:05Jada fell asleep.
- 34:06was like,
- 34:07like, we watched it in the afternoon.
- 34:11Kearns: I, anytime between one and
- 34:13Ryan: Oh man,
- 34:15Jon: Nap time.
- 34:16Yeah.
- 34:17Kearns: asleep into a movie around that time.
- 34:18Jon: Three 30 to five 30.
- 34:20And that's mine.
- 34:21Ryan: I can't, if I do, I'm out for the count.
- 34:24I'll waking up in the morning.
- 34:25I literally, while watching New Year's Evil, I literally fell
- 34:27asleep 15 minutes before the end.
- 34:29Woke up at 3 33 and I was like, oh my God, it's over.
- 34:32It's only gotta be 11 o'clock.
- 34:33Nope, three o'clock in the morning.
- 34:35It's like, damnit.
- 34:38Jon: Yep.
- 34:39Yep.
- 34:40All right.
- 34:40We have one more.
- 34:42Ryan: One more for the ear.
- 34:44Jon: Yep.
- 34:45Kerns is down.
- 34:46One here.
- 34:47Ryan: Oh,
- 34:48Kearns: tie.
- 34:51Ryan: you gotta do an air bud.
- 34:53Jon: All right.
- 34:55Number 10,
- 34:58Tawny Panic.
- 35:02Groundhogs Day brings floods of tourists to a sleepy Pennsylvania town.
- 35:09But little do they know the celebration will turn to a buffet as
- 35:13dozens of groundhogs converge in an effort to free their brother Phil,
- 35:23Ryan: Phil, you love
- 35:25Jon: amongst Tony, Phil.
- 35:26Ryan: You love animal.
- 35:27Animal
- 35:28Jon: That's the actual Groundhog's name Phil Poni.
- 35:32Phil is the actual groundhog.
- 35:34Kearns: the other one, Pete,
- 35:38Jon: I think they all died and they just keep re recycling other groundhogs 'cause
- 35:43Ryan: this is Phil.
- 35:43Kearns: it and it died.
- 35:45Jon: yeah.
- 35:46Ryan: Yep.
- 35:49Horrible.
- 35:50Kearns: Live
- 35:51Ryan: We had a cold winter.
- 35:52Kearns: I was his name.
- 35:54Ryan: The shadow's gone.
- 35:55What?
- 35:56Kearns: Other groundhog name was Land Beaver.
- 35:59No, no.
- 36:00This is not what we're doing.
- 36:04Ryan: We're not looking up ground hos.
- 36:06You know what?
- 36:06I'm gonna take a chance and say real, say real.
- 36:11Kearns: Um, I
- 36:12Jon: right.
- 36:12You say real.
- 36:14Kearns: I have to
- 36:16Jon: It is fake.
- 36:17Unfortunately it's fake.
- 36:20As much as I want this one to be real so badly and there was a
- 36:24super huge tell if you were paying attention when I was reading that one.
- 36:28'cause I almost lost it.
- 36:31I got, yeah, I, got to buffet and I almost lost it.
- 36:36I struggled through that, the last half of that sentence.
- 36:39Kearns: a more John like description than the other ones that you've,
- 36:42uh, you did for this round.
- 36:43So at least all we came out tied.
- 36:46back from the
- 36:48Jon: Yeah.
- 36:49Ryan: the year.
- 36:51Jon: Six, six.
- 36:52Ryan: Those were hard.
- 36:53Kearns: evil goes.
- 36:54Jon: There were,
- 36:56Kearns: I think we're done talking about New
- 36:58Jon: yeah, I mean, we're, pretty much done.
- 37:00I mean, it turns out Richard is the killer, Diane's husband.
- 37:05he tries to kill her in the elevator.
- 37:07Ryan: Which is a
- 37:08Jon: Police Stu.
- 37:09Yeah.
- 37:10I mean, it's, it's an all right twist.
- 37:12if you knew what he looked like, they're not hiding it at all throughout the movie.
- 37:16'cause he's at no point in any real disguise until he needs to sneak in.
- 37:23Ryan: and I I like that though.
- 37:24Well, he uses the disguise for the bar.
- 37:27like
- 37:28Jon: I mean,
- 37:28Ryan: chameleon and
- 37:30Jon: he,
- 37:30Ryan: really like to know
- 37:31Jon: he puts on, he puts the, he puts on the fakest mustache in movie history.
- 37:39Ryan: that looked real, sir, that looked better than mine.
- 37:43At one point.
- 37:46Kearns: Fighting.
- 37:47Jon: I'll stop wearing fake mustache.
- 37:48This is Ryan.
- 37:52Ryan: That was real, sir. It was
- 37:54Jon: Oh, okay.
- 37:55Cops stop him.
- 37:56He runs to the top of the building.
- 37:59There's a shootout.
- 38:00He jumps.
- 38:01He crashes to the ground dead.
- 38:03And the first person to his body is his son, Derrick.
- 38:08And we close the movie with Diane being loaded into an ambulance
- 38:13driven by a masked Derrick
- 38:17Ryan: is a good ending.
- 38:18Kearns: in Killer Clowns from Outerspace and the rest is history.
- 38:23Hooray.
- 38:25all right.
- 38:25Ryan: Yes.
- 38:27Jon: Hurricane.
- 38:29It's fine.
- 38:29Kearns: It's like, uh, mid shelf.
- 38:32Mid shelf, anything.
- 38:35Ryan: Three outta
- 38:36Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 38:38Yeah.
- 38:40Yeah, yeah.
- 38:42It's a,
- 38:45it's it,
- 38:46Ryan: thought you'd be happy with that one.
- 38:48Kearns: that you've given threes to.
- 38:49Then you gotta compare this to those.
- 38:51Ryan: What?
- 38:56Listen.
- 38:56Jon: I love when you guys argue about the ratings
- 38:59Ryan: All right.
- 38:592.75.
- 39:00Kearns: I mean, I, I would like to go lower.
- 39:03Jon: and then I,
- 39:04Kearns: 1.5.
- 39:06Jon: it's a movie that goes up about a half a point.
- 39:09If you watch it with a group of people and you're doing some things,
- 39:16Ryan: Yeah.
- 39:17Jon: And you know, you're just making fun of it while you watch it.
- 39:20When you watch it by yourself, it's less fun.
- 39:23Kearns: then it's fine.
- 39:24Exactly.
- 39:26Ryan: Yes.
- 39:27Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:28I can go about 2.75.
- 39:30I could, you know, I could argue a three because it meets my expectation, but 2.75
- 39:36Kearns: and a three from the very, very generous Romanian judge over here, Ryan.
- 39:43All
- 39:43Ryan: I have to be.
- 39:43Kearns: guys.
- 39:45All right.
- 39:45We have a special treat for you tonight.
- 39:47we're all going to do top fives, but it's a little bit different.
- 39:51Anybody wanna tell 'em what it is?
- 39:53Jon: Well, I have two top five for you guys.
- 39:55The first one is my top five horror movies of 2025, which I believe
- 40:01you've all both done as well.
- 40:04And then I have a top five movies.
- 40:06I exposed you guys to.
- 40:07Ryan: Yep.
- 40:08I got that.
- 40:08Ready too.
- 40:09Kearns: did, this year on the podcast.
- 40:13Yeah,
- 40:14Jon: I like it.
- 40:15Ryan: Word.
- 40:15Kearns: like, more
- 40:16Jon: I like it.
- 40:17So let's start with that
- 40:18Kearns: liked doing the best is more, more appropriate.
- 40:21Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 40:22Kearns: you wanna start with
- 40:23Jon: Okay.
- 40:24Ryan: Okay.
- 40:26Jon: Yeah.
- 40:26Let's start with the one we all did and then I'll hit we'll
- 40:28head with the best of 2025 and
- 40:31Kearns: dokie.
- 40:32Cool.
- 40:34Put me
- 40:35Ryan: Alright.
- 40:36currents you never Yeah, I was gonna say, we always do the top fives
- 40:40and you're always special guests in these and 'cause like you pop up
- 40:43with the books, you go first tonight.
- 40:45Kearns: My All right.
- 40:47Number five.
- 40:48Alligator.
- 40:48was a lot of fun to record.
- 40:50It was a lot of fun to rewatch.
- 40:52and it's a good movie.
- 40:54just a, a great time watching the animatronics come together for that film.
- 40:57hearing John talking about how that thing was hell bent, that thing was
- 41:00a missile to the, was it the mayor?
- 41:03He ended up getting in that one scene.
- 41:06Ryan: I'm
- 41:07Jon: Yep.
- 41:08Yep.
- 41:08Kearns: He tears apart the car.
- 41:10Um,
- 41:11Jon: I'm eating you.
- 41:12Kearns: it a lot.
- 41:14this one was tough 'cause I changed number four about six times and it
- 41:19was between Fright Night and this movie and I, I kept coming back and
- 41:23forth and I eventually landed on Barbarian we had a chuckle fest for
- 41:28Ryan: Yeah.
- 41:29Kearns: we were,
- 41:31Ryan: Yeah, we did.
- 41:32Jon: Yeah, we did.
- 41:33Kearns: as well.
- 41:34'cause we talked a lot about, the essay aspect and we got serious in
- 41:38the show for like, the first time that was something I enjoyed that we didn't
- 41:42really plan on doing, but it's sort of our personalities to take it seriously.
- 41:46So I was like, oh cool.
- 41:47that's number four.
- 41:48Uh,
- 41:49Ryan: Yeah.
- 41:51Kearns: 'cause we
- 41:52Ryan: Yeah.
- 41:53Kearns: Um, I
- 41:53Ryan: it.
- 41:54Kearns: more about Night Breed from that episode than I did I ever known before,
- 42:01Jon: And I have a three plus hour cut of that movie because we did that episode.
- 42:05Kearns: I learned that that exists from you.
- 42:08, Ryan: Live watch Patreon.
- 42:09Let's do it.
- 42:10Kearns: and then I did, um,
- 42:12Ryan: Pork and pines.
- 42:13Kearns: battery.
- 42:16The battery was way
- 42:18I
- 42:18Ryan: good.
- 42:18Kearns: didn't know about it.
- 42:20I was like, okay, this movie's completely new to me.
- 42:23And it was a great watch, really well done.
- 42:26And it was fun picking that apart.
- 42:29never seen that happen to a zombie before.
- 42:31So, you know, it kind of ruined me a little bit as well,
- 42:34if you guys know, you know.
- 42:36Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 42:37Kearns: and then giant chicken.
- 42:40Giant Chicken anime segues, and just this little movie that could outta
- 42:44Hong Kong Zombie Biology is my number one for this year, just because
- 42:48it was just way too much of it.
- 42:50It came
- 42:50Jon: Yes.
- 42:51Kearns: for me.
- 42:51I was watching it in my basement, like while I was on a treadmill.
- 42:54I was like, what is, what did they, this can't be the right movie.
- 42:58I think I bought it too.
- 43:00It was just a great time.
- 43:01Great.
- 43:01Hang.
- 43:02If you haven't seen Zombie Biology, you
- 43:04it
- 43:04Jon: Yep.
- 43:07Ryan: It's an
- 43:07Jon: Yep.
- 43:07Ryan: in a basket attacking everyone.
- 43:09Kearns: so
- 43:10Ryan: Alright.
- 43:12Kearns: All
- 43:13Jon: Love that one.
- 43:14Kearns: try
- 43:15Ryan: That was awesome.
- 43:18Oh, is
- 43:18Jon: I like it.
- 43:19Ryan: that a warning?
- 43:20All right, I'll be quick.
- 43:21Kearns: of you.
- 43:21Brian May fall asleep.
- 43:28Ryan: well, we're gonna, gonna start off with number five and number five, um,
- 43:33for the Exposed is, first off, I wanna say thank you, John, for exposing me
- 43:38to more films that I've never heard of.
- 43:40And, um, you know, it, it means a lot for me as a film guy to be introduced to this.
- 43:47So, I appreciate you doing this and appreciate you both for this podcast.
- 43:50So I wanna say thank you to both of you actually.
- 43:53Jon: That's probably my favorite part of doing this is just getting
- 43:59you guys to watch movies you probably wouldn't have found.
- 44:02Kearns: kind of see that you get joy out of it.
- 44:05Sometimes it's maniacal joy, but joy nonetheless.
- 44:09yeah, I, I echo the
- 44:11for
- 44:11Ryan: Well,
- 44:12Kearns: Brian.
- 44:13All right, now start
- 44:14Ryan: don't worry, we're gonna watch bring her back next year.
- 44:20Jon: Yeah.
- 44:20Ryan: All right, so we're, I actually changed something just
- 44:23right now, so I'll work that in.
- 44:25But number five, we're gonna start off with the battery.
- 44:30was, it was phenomenal just how it was, how the Jeremy Gardner writes
- 44:35it, directs it, and you know the scene in the car, you know, and just
- 44:40the emotion and just everything.
- 44:43That was a classic.
- 44:44And it shows that it doesn't, A horror movie doesn't have to be gory, it just has
- 44:48to have emotion and that unnerving feeling and that, oh shit, just great film.
- 44:55my number four, it's alligator.
- 44:59I love alligator.
- 45:01yeah, this is like you guys kept talking to me about it.
- 45:04And then when I finally watched it, I. just in love with it.
- 45:08It's a great creature film.
- 45:09Just the buildup.
- 45:11Um, got, oh God, Robert Forster, or Forster, as I've said his
- 45:16name before, he's just fan.
- 45:18He's phenomenal and it's just, he kills it.
- 45:21Watch Jackie Brown too.
- 45:23I'm gonna throw that in number three.
- 45:27So this was hard 'cause this is where I get to the nitty gritty
- 45:31and my number three is frailty.
- 45:34guys.
- 45:35You guys, yeah.
- 45:36You guys talked about it.
- 45:39Yeah.
- 45:39It just phenomenal.
- 45:41Again, it hits you and you're like, crap, what am I watching here?
- 45:45And it's like, more people need to be watching this film, especially 'cause
- 45:49it's so good and it's so underrated.
- 45:50I feel.
- 45:52Jon: I had forgotten.
- 45:53That was one you hadn't seen?
- 45:54Ryan: were gonna say, I'm sorry.
- 45:56Jon: No, I, I just, that I had forgotten that that was one you hadn't seen.
- 46:00Kearns: a few surprise
- 46:02Ryan: I'm gonna give you.
- 46:03Kearns: these 52 episodes, 53 now, I guess, um, over this year I was surprised
- 46:10Ryan hadn't seen them yet, because I know that he's, as I almost as prolific
- 46:13a watcher of, these movies as you are.
- 46:17Bye.
- 46:19Ryan: I feel like I've gotten so much mainstream.
- 46:22And then it's like you dig through an archive and it's like you kind
- 46:26of get to a certain surface and then this is when other people come in and
- 46:31they help you dig and you find more.
- 46:33And goes with this film.
- 46:36And we did this recently and I love it.
- 46:39And it's Christmas, bloody Christmas.
- 46:42That film will be watched.
- 46:43Oh yeah.
- 46:44Every year.
- 46:44Christmas time.
- 46:45I'm gonna watch that.
- 46:46'cause I, I love it.
- 46:48Joe beos, his writing, the style, the character building, it's just awesome.
- 46:54And again, character.
- 46:57I'm not gonna fight John for her love, but you know, just an awesome character.
- 47:02She gets messed up at the end and I just wanna see a sequel with her.
- 47:06Like having two fingers going haywire.
- 47:09Bruce Campbell in there.
- 47:10Let's have some fun.
- 47:12And my number one Battle Royal,
- 47:17I love that
- 47:19Jon: Yes.
- 47:20Ryan: I wanna read the manga.
- 47:22I wanna read the book like I Am Hooked.
- 47:25Not only because it's Tarantino's favorite, it's just, it's well done.
- 47:29And Suzanne Summers, you know, you stole, this idea, shouting
- 47:35Jon: No, she stole the AB roller.
- 47:36Suzanne Collins.
- 47:39Ryan: Suzanne Collins.
- 47:40Sorry you two.
- 47:41Summers.
- 47:42Summers.
- 47:47But those are my top five exposed and I wanna say
- 47:50Jon: All right.
- 47:52Oh, absolutely, man.
- 47:54I, love how similar our lists have wound up being be like, so my top five movies,
- 48:04I got to expose you guys to number five.
- 48:08We go back to episode four.
- 48:10Kearns: Wow,
- 48:12Jon: I, I just, I loved giving, I loved giving you, showing you guys like just
- 48:19this bizarre vision of a zombie apocalypse and just how ridiculous that movie gets.
- 48:29Ryan: Oh God, yes.
- 48:31Kearns: like they do character building, and there's an actual
- 48:34Jon: yeah,
- 48:35yeah, it's so well done.
- 48:37my number four is a very Ryan specific one.
- 48:40We go to episode 39 and alligator.
- 48:44Ryan: Yes.
- 48:45Jon: I, I, I was stunned that you hadn't seen it, especially with how
- 48:49much it used to be on tv and to give you to, for you to watch that and
- 48:56enjoy it was like, that was, awesome.
- 48:59Ryan: It's just, it's so good.
- 49:01The alligator, just eating the kid in the pool and spoiler.
- 49:05Um, just,
- 49:07uh, it's just so good.
- 49:08Kearns: yeah, like that, that
- 49:11Jon: Yeah.
- 49:14Yeah.
- 49:15Ryan: Child's play.
- 49:16Bring her back.
- 49:18Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 49:20Kearns: You're just
- 49:20Jon: Yep.
- 49:21Kearns: What does
- 49:22Ryan: Well,
- 49:22Jon: You're gonna,
- 49:26Hey, it's any opportunity to work, bring her back in.
- 49:32Yeah.
- 49:32Yeah.
- 49:34my number three is episode 18 and the beaten to zombie the battery.
- 49:43That, that's another, another one.
- 49:45That's so, so small.
- 49:49People don't find that on their own.
- 49:51Ryan: No, it's sad.
- 49:52Jon: It's something you just stumble on.
- 49:55Like, I went through a period where I watched almost every
- 49:58zombie movie that came out, and that's when I found the battery.
- 50:00Kearns: blown away by what you'd stumbled upon.
- 50:05Jon: Especially in context of a lot of the other stuff that I saw during that period.
- 50:11Oh man, in the wake of the Walking Dead, they released
- 50:15anything with a dead guy in it.
- 50:17Ryan: a hundred percent.
- 50:18They were just writing the, you know, that's when you write the
- 50:21money train and then when you see a Romero zombie film, you're like, oh,
- 50:26this is what it's supposed to be.
- 50:27Okay.
- 50:28Jon: Yeah.
- 50:29When you see someone who know who's not trying to rip off something
- 50:32that's insanely popular, you see how good the, that genre can be done.
- 50:39So we'll go to number two now, and the surprise ending in episode
- 50:4430 of Angela and Sleepaway Camp.
- 50:48Kearns: Sleepaway Camp would make either of your list.
- 50:50'cause it almost got on mine.
- 50:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 50:54It wa it was in our, it wa that was in our little run of dongs that we
- 50:59had, like late spring, early summer.
- 51:02Ryan: 28 years later, it was the,
- 51:05Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 51:06Ryan: summer.
- 51:07The summer of
- 51:08Jon: There was a, there's a top five dongs that I did like, there was,
- 51:12we, we were, we were a, a pecker joke show for a long time there.
- 51:20Ryan: We were
- 51:22no recurs.
- 51:23Jon: Not at all.
- 51:24Not at all.
- 51:25No re regrets.
- 51:26And my number one, Ryan's number one episode 50 Battle Royal.
- 51:31Ryan: Yes.
- 51:33Jon: Yeah.
- 51:34And, and I, I, I hope a whole bunch of other people discover battle royale
- 51:38and realize you've fallen for an inferior version in the Hunger Games.
- 51:45Ryan: percent agreed.
- 51:47Kearns: Collins and all she's
- 51:50Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 51:52Ryan: there's a severed head with a grenade in it.
- 51:55How can can't beat that.
- 51:58Jon: Yeah.
- 51:58Ryan: Sorry.
- 51:59Kearns: I guess that's our
- 52:00Oh
- 52:01Jon: Yeah.
- 52:01Kearns: have another top five?
- 52:03another top
- 52:04Ryan: we got,
- 52:04Jon: Now
- 52:05Ryan: yeah, I got one too.
- 52:08Jon: go ahead, Ryan.
- 52:08Ryan: Yeah.
- 52:09Oh, we, we both did top five of 2025 and I went the horror route.
- 52:14Um,
- 52:15Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 52:16I went, I went only horror.
- 52:17Also,
- 52:17Ryan: yeah, it was hard 'cause there were some films, but.
- 52:22It was hard.
- 52:24Very hard, and
- 52:25Jon: it was hard to get it to five.
- 52:27Ryan: yes, agreed.
- 52:28But, know, to keep on with this dong talk, my number five is 28 years later.
- 52:34we saw it together.
- 52:36I did like it, you know, it connects very well.
- 52:39I am excited for the bone temple.
- 52:41seems like it's gonna be a really good follow up.
- 52:45stay tuned for that episode.
- 52:46We'll probably do the same thing.
- 52:47We did more Dons than that, but it, it was just well crafted and especially
- 52:53years later, after the original film and the sequel, it, holds up my number four.
- 53:00You gotta, you know, you gotta run, have your hands out like
- 53:03this, and that's weapons.
- 53:05movie was so good.
- 53:07I enjoyed it very, very much.
- 53:08A lot of memorable scenes.
- 53:10I like how Zach Craiger Does what he did with Barbarian.
- 53:15He focuses on one character and then it crosses over with the other character.
- 53:19great piecing check out the episode too, especially with 28 years later too.
- 53:25Like, check 'em out.
- 53:27That leads to number three, and we haven't covered it, but,
- 53:31um, would love to Is Sinners.
- 53:33it was really good.
- 53:34I like the buildup, the story.
- 53:37Ryan Coogler kills it.
- 53:39Michael B. Jordan kills it.
- 53:41It's a really good watch.
- 53:42It's a different
- 53:43Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 53:44Ryan: vampires and the idea of having these two brothers.
- 53:50different parts of like, I guess you can say the mafia, the Irish mob, the Chicago
- 53:55Italian mob, and then uniting to create the speakeasy and South is awesome.
- 54:01But then with the vampires in the mix, it's, it's a nice little twist, which
- 54:05goes to my number two, the Long Walk.
- 54:08We covered this too.
- 54:11I loved it.
- 54:12It was phenomenal.
- 54:12Kept me on the edge of my seat.
- 54:14Um, nothing bad to say.
- 54:16It was just a phenomenal, phenomenal movie.
- 54:19And number one is Gamo del Toros, Frankenstein, or Guillermo.
- 54:25Kearns: too.
- 54:28Jon: Killer Mo.
- 54:30Ryan: okay, so actually Jada did say, why is En Nosferatu on there?
- 54:34And I said, that came out in 2024.
- 54:37Jon: It's technically the 2024.
- 54:39Ryan: And that's our first episode.
- 54:40Watch it.
- 54:41Enjoy it.
- 54:42We're animated at that point.
- 54:44Jon: Yeah.
- 54:46Ryan: That is my
- 54:47Jon: Yeah.
- 54:47Ryan: Um, it was, it was hard.
- 54:48I had toxic avenger.
- 54:50I had the monkey, I had E two five Forest Road clowning, a
- 54:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 54:57Ryan: It was
- 54:58Jon: the, it was a good year for horror.
- 55:03So my top five horror of 2025, I'm gonna start with an honorable mention,
- 55:09which I almost never do, but I feel like this one is going to crack the top five
- 55:15when the whole story's done, and that's 28 years later, I think it ends on a
- 55:20little bit of an awkward note because
- 55:22Ryan: yeah.
- 55:24Jon: it's meant to set up another part.
- 55:27So I want to see how that vision completes, but I think this
- 55:32probably climbs higher over time.
- 55:34Number five for me is the missing kids.
- 55:37It's weapons.
- 55:38Ryan: Word.
- 55:38Jon: mean, you get three really awesome roles with a weird ant, a scapegoated
- 55:46teacher, and a determined father.
- 55:48And like you get little bits of unexpected levity like Weapons works.
- 55:55number four is one we haven't done yet, but I'm, I'm gonna get it on our calendar.
- 56:00It's called Dangerous Animals.
- 56:03Ryan: I've heard of that.
- 56:05Jon: It's a, interesting twist on the serial killer horror.
- 56:09in that we have a serial killer who is offing and disposing of
- 56:14his victims in a very unique way.
- 56:17He's feeding them to sharks.
- 56:19Kearns: bad
- 56:19Ryan: Okay.
- 56:20I
- 56:21Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 56:21Ryan: that.
- 56:23Jon: It is tense like, you can really get sucked in and being as
- 56:28most of it's set on a boat, it's so isolating, it's so well done.
- 56:35Definitely recommend Dangerous Animals.
- 56:37And my top three is the same movies as as Ryan, but in a different order.
- 56:42Number three is the Long Walk.
- 56:45This is,
- 56:47Ryan: Okay.
- 56:47Jon: this is, mist level anticipation for me as far as an
- 56:51adaptation from a, a King story.
- 56:54Like the Mist and the Long Walk were the two i I longed
- 56:57for from the day I read them.
- 56:59And then seeing a vision of the Long Walk brought to life that's different
- 57:05enough, but still really good.
- 57:07My number two is Frankenstein, and it's only number two because
- 57:11it's not a true horror for me.
- 57:15And it's here.
- 57:16Here's where this, my little horror ranking stuff will get weird.
- 57:20Franken Frankenstein right now without seeing a couple of things sits at the
- 57:25top of my number one movies of 2025.
- 57:29But I think my number one is a more effective horror movie.
- 57:34And I mean, we talked so much about Frankenstein.
- 57:37I don't think there's a whole lot more to say in this short form,
- 57:41but I, it is just beautiful.
- 57:44It's emotional, it's so well done.
- 57:47which means my number one is sinners because they, to me, it's,
- 57:52it's a, it's a true horror movie.
- 57:55It, I mean, you get the twin brothers opening a juke joint that lasts one
- 58:00night before being overrun by initially.
- 58:04Uh, Klansman vampires and it like, it's just, it's such so well done.
- 58:11Coler nails it.
- 58:12Jordan nails it like this is thinner.
- 58:15The sinners is very worthy of the praise it gets.
- 58:22And that's my five.
- 58:23Ryan: that,
- 58:24we were very close with all our lists for the first
- 58:28Jon: Yeah,
- 58:29Ryan: Like we're spot
- 58:30Jon: I mean, for me, with horror movies this year, there's a clear one and two,
- 58:36Kearns: Yeah.
- 58:38Jon: whichever order you put them in.
- 58:40If you put, if you think Frankenstein is enough of a horror movie for you and
- 58:44you put it, number one, I can't argue with that, but one and two sinners in
- 58:49Frankenstein I think almost has to be.
- 58:52Ryan: Yeah, I feel like the only reason why I put Sinners in three was it, it
- 58:57wasn't 'cause of, like, I consider it very who, but I feel like the long walk
- 59:03at number two for me is just because of like, you're on your edge of your seat.
- 59:06And that for me is like that who of like slowing down and like anyone can die.
- 59:11And that dystopia and that feeling of like, you're forced
- 59:15to do this with Frankenstein.
- 59:17It's coming from like that universal style, not the black and white,
- 59:22but like, that the, the pacing.
- 59:24It was like slow, but it was that, that right pacing where it's like
- 59:29you can sense the trouble and it's just acted correctly with the music.
- 59:33And as the horror intertwines it's like a, a painter just painting
- 59:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 59:38Mm-hmm.
- 59:38Ryan: that's how I felt with it.
- 59:40Jon: Yeah.
- 59:40I, I, yeah.
- 59:41And the thing with sinners is like, you, you know, you were saying about the long
- 59:47walkin, like anybody can go at any time.
- 59:49Sinners does not hold back.
- 59:51There Are, characters in that movie that you think will survive?
- 59:54Who are gone?
- 59:55Ryan: especially the ending.
- 59:57I thought the old guy was gonna get it and
- 1:00:00Jon: Yeah.
- 1:00:02Ryan: he doesn't.
- 1:00:02And but it's like, I agree because anyone can go in that movie and that's
- 1:00:07what makes it more enjoyable, especially
- 1:00:09Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:10Ryan: who are expecting the expected.
- 1:00:12And then once you twist it, it's like,
- 1:00:15Kearns: Well,
- 1:00:15Ryan: wait a minute,
- 1:00:16Kearns: long year and this episode's gonna be longer than that.
- 1:00:18So we're gonna wrap up everybody.
- 1:00:20But Expedition 33 won nine awards at the Game Awards, and we're gonna
- 1:00:26see if Frankenstein cleans up.
- 1:00:27I got a feeling sinners might win a couple things at the um, golden
- 1:00:31Globes and stuff too, though.
- 1:00:32I don't know if it'll do well at
- 1:00:34Ryan: a good year for horror.
- 1:00:37Jon: I think by the time we're back we'll have, Oscar nominees to rant about two.
- 1:00:42Ryan: yeah.
- 1:00:43I think Frankenstein's enough
- 1:00:45Kearns: gotta.
- 1:00:46Gotta see.
- 1:00:46It's been,
- 1:00:48Jon: we'll see.
- 1:00:48We'll see.
- 1:00:48Hopefully.
- 1:00:49Kearns: for different, smaller ones, but we'll see what, what it looks like
- 1:00:54didn't
- 1:00:54Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:55Kearns: much love, which isn't a good sign.
- 1:00:58So we'll see how it goes.
- 1:01:00Ryan: that's not good.
- 1:01:02Jon: Yeah, we'll see.
- 1:01:04Kearns: happy 2025.
- 1:01:06Happy 20,
- 1:01:08Ryan: 2026
- 1:01:11Jon: Happy New Year.
- 1:01:12It's been a fun ride with you guys this year.
- 1:01:14Ryan: and get ready for more fun next year.
- 1:01:17I.
