February 24 - The Courage of a Clear Conscience · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, February 24th.
• 0:12
Truth that stands tall. Have you ever been talked about,
• 0:15
misunderstood, or accused of something that wasn't true?
• 0:19
Maybe someone twisted your words, spread a rumor, or
• 0:22
decided who you were without ever asking you?
• 0:24
Those moments can feel incredibly unfair.
• 0:28
Your chest tightens, your mind races, and you just want to
• 0:31
  defend yourself or disappear altogether.
• 0:34
Words have power, and when they're used wrongly, they can
• 0:36
wound deeply. Proverbs Chapter 11, verse 9
• 0:40
reminds us of that reality. It says that with his mouth, the
• 0:44
godless man would destroy his neighbor.
• 0:46
But by knowledge, the righteous are delivered.
• 0:50
In other words, lies and manipulation may be loud, but
• 0:53
truth has staying power. Truth doesn't need to shout to
• 0:56
survive. It stands firm because it's
• 0:58
rooted in what is real. We see that kind of strength in
• 1:02
Acts chapter 24. Paul is standing before powerful
• 1:06
leaders, facing false accusations and twisted stories
• 1:09
about his life and faith. People are trying to paint him
• 1:13
as a troublemaker, someone dangerous, someone who deserves
• 1:16
  punishment. Yet Paul doesn't panic.
• 1:19
He doesn't lash out. He doesn't water down what he
• 1:23
believes to protect himself. In Acts chapter 24 verse 14,
• 1:28
Paul calmly says that he worships the God of his Father's
• 1:31
and believes everything written in the law and the prophets.
• 1:34
He owns his faith openly. And earlier in Acts chapter 24
• 1:39
verse 10, he clearly states that he has done no wrong.
• 1:43
Paul's confidence doesn't come from having perfect
• 1:46
circumstances. It comes from knowing the truth
• 1:49
and standing in it. That takes courage, especially
• 1:52
when the truth isn't popular, especially when lies seem to
• 1:56
have momentum. Paul shows us that you don't
• 1:59
have to match chaos with chaos. You don't have to fight every
• 2:03
accusation with anger. When your life is anchored in
• 2:06
God's truth, you can respond with calm confidence instead of
• 2:10
fear. This matters for us because we
• 2:12
live in a world full of noise. Opinions spread fast.
• 2:17
Assumptions form quickly, and sometimes, no matter how
• 2:20
carefully you live, someone will misunderstand you.
• 2:23
The temptation is to either explode in defense or shrink
• 2:26
back in silence. But God offers a better way.
• 2:30
He invites you to stand tall in truth.
• 2:33
Truth doesn't mean being harsh. It means being grounded.
• 2:36
It means letting your words build instead of destroy.
• 2:40
It means trusting that God sees the full picture, even when
• 2:43
others don't. When you live honestly before
• 2:45
God, you don't have to be ruled by what people say about you.
• 2:49
Truth becomes your anchor. So if you're facing
• 2:52
  misunderstanding today, remember this.
• 2:55
Lies may rise, but they don't last.
• 2:57
Truth rooted in God always stands taller.
• 3:00
Stay faithful, speak with wisdom, walk with integrity.
• 3:04
God will handle what you cannot. Let's pray.
• 3:07
Heavenly Father, thank you. That truth does not depend on
• 3:10
popularity to stand strong. When I am misunderstood,
• 3:14
misjudged, or falsely accused, help me to stay anchored in You.
• 3:18
Guard my heart from fear and my mouth from harm.
• 3:21
Teach me to respond with wisdom, courage, and grace.
• 3:25
Let my life reflect Your truth so clearly that lies lose their
• 3:28
power. I trust You to defend what I
• 3:30
place in your hands in Jesus name, Amen.

World English Bible With his mouth the godless man destroys
• 5:02
his neighbor, but the righteous will be delivered through
• 5:04
knowledge. Acts Chapter 24 World English
• 5:08
Bible After five days, the high priest Ananias came down with
• 5:12
certain elders and an orator. 1 Turtleus They informed the
• 5:16
governor against Paul. When he was called, Turtleus
• 5:19
began to accuse him saying, Seeing that by you we enjoy much
• 5:22
peace, and that prosperity is coming to this nation by your
• 5:25
foresight, we accept it in all ways and in all places.
• 5:29
Most excellent, Felix, with all thankfulness, but that I don't
• 5:33
delay you, I entreat you to bear with us and hear a few words,
• 5:37
for we have found this man to be a plague, an instigator of
• 5:40
insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a
• 5:43
ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.
• 5:46
He even tried to profane the Temple, and we arrested him.
• 5:49
By examining him yourself, you may ascertain all these things
• 5:52
of which we accuse him. The Jews also joined in the
• 5:56
attack, affirming that these things were so.
• 5:58
When the governor had beckoned to him to speak, Paul answered.
• 6:02
Because I know that you have been a judge of this nation for
• 6:04
many years, I cheerfully make my defense, seeing that you can
• 6:08
verify that it is not more than 12 days since I went up to
• 6:12
worship at Jerusalem. In the Temple.
• 6:14
They didn't find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a
• 6:17
crowd, either in the synagogues or in the city.
• 6:20
Nor can they prove to you the things of which they now accuse
• 6:23
me. But this I confess to you, that
• 6:25
according to the way which they call a sect, so I serve the God
• 6:29
of our fathers, believing all things which are according to
• 6:32
the law, and which are written in the prophets, having hope
• 6:35
toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there
• 6:38
will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and
• 6:41
unjust. In this I also practice, always
• 6:44
having a conscience void of offense toward God and men.
• 6:48
Now, after some years, I came to bring gifts for the needy to my
• 6:51
nation, and offerings amid which certain Jews from Asia found me
• 6:55
purified in the Temple. Not with a mob, nor with
• 6:58
turmoil. They ought to have been here
• 7:00
before you, and to make accusation if they had anything
• 7:03
against me. Or else let these men themselves
• 7:06
say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the
• 7:09
Council, unless it is for this one thing that I cried standing
• 7:12
among them concerning the resurrection of the dead.
• 7:15
I am being judged before you today.
• 7:17
But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the way,
• 7:21
deferred them, saying when Elijah's the commanding officer
• 7:24
comes down, I will decide your case.
• 7:27
He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody
• 7:30
and should have some privileges and not to forbid any of his
• 7:33
friends to serve him or to visit him.
• 7:36
After some days Felix came with Drusilla, his wife who was a
• 7:40
Jewess and sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith
• 7:43
in Christ Jesus. As he reasoned about
• 7:45
righteousness, self-control and the judgement to come.
• 7:48
Felix was terrified and answered, Go your way for this
• 7:51
time and when it is convenient for me, I will summon you.
• 7:55
Meanwhile, he also hoped that money would be given to him by
• 7:58
Paul that he might release him. Therefore also he sent for him
• 8:01
more often and talked with him. But when two years were
• 8:04
fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porsche's Festus, and
• 8:08
desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.
