- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello, hello, welcome to another edition of the 9-Renoise podcast part of the fan-sided podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Robert Morrison, a contributor at 9-Renoise.com and here with me, fellow contributor, I'm a strategist, divadula, aksha, it is week number six of the NFL season for the 9-Renoise are four and one, and I believe if I'm not mistaken, officially the number one seed in the NFC as they head into this game on Sunday, thanks to the Eagles ineptitude, but we don't have to talk
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: doing great Robert it's crazy that it's already what did you say like week six oh my gosh yeah yeah time flies that's
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: the surprise and to say the least, but yeah, you know, if you told me the Niners would be four and one, adding into this stretch, I'd be like, oh, that's pretty good.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: And then if you told me what happened during the course of those five weeks, I'd be like, oh my god.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Gradually.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I definitely would not have been surprised if you were like, oh, they're four and one, handing it up a book in the years game.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely would have
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: thought that they would not have been as injured as they are in order to do so.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: And be, I probably would have thought they started off on a four game win streak and then lost that Thursday night came to the ramps.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: So there you go.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: It all works out.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's fine.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: They are, of course, maintained their status as the most injured team in the NFL.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: So good for them, I guess.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: Do they get a trophy for that?
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: What's what are the rules?
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: They should they should definitely get a trophy for that.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, so they're playing the buck and areas in Tampa on Sunday afternoon.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: It is as we were talking about off air last at the end of our last episode.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: because of the way the schedule has worked out for this week, so there was the Thursday night game, there's a London game on Sunday morning as a recording here on Saturday afternoon and then there are two Monday night games, so there's only what I say three total games in the four o'clock window and the Niners are
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: and the Niners Bucks is pretty much the premiere of one.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: Fox only has one game in the afternoon.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think that what I say that's the Titan's Raiders game.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: Woo.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that pretty much makes the Niners Bucks the Marky matchup of the afternoon, which is good for everybody involved.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it's an interesting schedule, but there'll be all eyes on the Niners precisely at the time where, I don't know, you could you wouldn't not convince me that the NFL was like, hey, like they're a good team, but
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Is there anyone marketable playing really like more than you do we have to yeah, anyone else, but yeah, yeah way goes I mean, certainly it's a better than the proverb than the 10 o'clock body clock start, which are usually how these East Coast games work right pretty sure all the rest of their trips I'm actually not sure that they have any more trips across the
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: the cost, the country.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: But that's usually how, when they come across the East Coast, they almost always play in that one o'clock Eastern time window.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, they're, sorry, two of their, they're two of their next three games are in that window.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: The Texans game and the Giant's game are both 10 AM Pacific's starts.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then the Brown's game right before
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: Um, three, three of those, but they get a little bit of a break with this one, which probably helps them, uh, they probably got in town last night, and that gives them a full day.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: Almost two, almost two full days really to, before the game starts, which is nice.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely, I mean.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: Any time you see a West Coast team fly to the East Coast, your immediate worries, the little time zone difference before anything else.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: So not having to deal with that is great.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's also good because they'll be starting later in the day, so maybe getting out of that, like.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: Lord, assign a little bit.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully it'll, the temperature will cool down a bit.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: But like he'll be, I think I read Matt Burrell's had a really fun piece on the athletic about dealing with humidity and cramping and just how the numbers were expecting this game to be perhaps their worst game when it comes to humidity.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: So it'll be a challenge for sure.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think so.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: I am actually in the state of Florida right now.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a couple of hours out.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'm closer to Jacksonville, but it is it's not not warm today, particularly.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's like in the mid to low 70s.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm more ocean side.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: So that is probably changes things a little bit, but it is sticky.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think I checked the the temperature this morning.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: I said 92% humidity, which is just.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't even really seem like it should be a thing, but there we go.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: They also have the benefit of their next game being Sunday night and at home, so that will help.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: And then they have the two road games back to back in weeks eight and nine, kind of an interesting way that worked out.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, so the Niners and the Bucks, two four and one teams, they are...
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: both pretty battered.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: These are two pretty beaten up teams.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll go ahead and talk about that because it's it's pretty ugly if you if you if you would like a
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: a list of just like terrifying like go to the 49ers website go to the team tab and click on injury report and just the sheer number of players and it shows both both teams the sheer number of players on this list is just outstanding not not good outstanding not like that was outstanding it's just like remarkable so for the 49ers Kevin given to just came back with
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: the pectoral injury just came off the injured reserve.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: He is not going to play on Sunday.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's a little disappointing, especially he was limited in practice.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: I guess they decided it wasn't quite there yet, so hopefully another week of practice.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be good to go next week.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yuto Grismato's with the knee and the hamstring didn't practice at all this week.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: He is out.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky Pierce all with the knee is out.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: Brock Perti continues to be out with that toe injury, although Kyle Shannon did say this week.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: there is no expectation of putting him in an injured reserve, which you'd have to think.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: So this is what two games in a row that he's missed, and the Jacksonville game.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, hindsight is 2020, and you almost wonder if maybe an IR Stint would have made a lot more sense for him, but they probably didn't anticipate it was going to be this long of a thing, especially when he came back for the Jacksonville game, but that's neither here nor there.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then Jordan Watkins also out with his calf injury, uptoned stout with the ankle, mountain stoffer coming back from that knee injury, mach Jones, Joanne Jennings, Clea Davis, and Alfred Collins all.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: questionable.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think to various levels of degree, I mean, it sounds like Stout is good, sounds like Mustafa is going to work in there some way or another.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: Sounds like Jones is going to be good to go.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think really the only one that gives you kind of like questions is John Jennings, just because he's been dealing with so much.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: And he was,
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: me verify this as I kind of look through.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Alfred Collins, Alfred Collins had a did not practice on Wednesday, but then was limited.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's the same with John Jennings.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody else was limited throughout the week or a full practice actually throughout the week.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: Mount Mustafa coming off in the entry, what a, what a, what a dude, full practice this is all week.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: But man, that's a, that hurts.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's a lot of players and a lot of good players.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: Assuming like everyone who's quite like assuming no one who's questionable is actually questionable, they all play.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's still like starting quarterback like your defensive line dent, your best receiver.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's, it's not, it's not pretty, but that's sort of in part for the course for this year.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think the question of those are really going to be what sort of swings this to being like,
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh no, to like, oh, oh well, like, if you have Joanne Jennings out of Mustafa, isn't able to go, like, stat seems like he'll be able to play, but if Collins is also out, like, that's a lot for any team, especially like a team that's already missing so many other players due to like a bunch of other injuries.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, not to mention there are guys on on the list that don't have a game designation like Robert Beale, he ended up strange.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't practice in one say Thursday doesn't have a practice designation for Friday, and he's apparently good to go.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't they for some reason he's not listed as out.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he had read else, or that he was out, but I don't know, Kendrick Bourne working through.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's just like,
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: There's just a lot of names on here, Tom is more said, the punter has a back thing that he's working through.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: He was good throughout, but it's just like there's a lot of guys on here that are working through things.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: It just feels really early in the season for so many guys to be on this list, even just to be on the list, and they're kind of trying to figure things out, I don't know.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: Buckingeringers are not as injured in terms
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: like number of players, but they've got some key guys on the list for sure, so they have already designated both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin out.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Evans with a hamstring, Chris Godwin still working back from the broken leg, right?
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's right.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: Fibilis in your leg.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think Bucky Irving, one of their leading running backs is also out with a foot and shoulder, Zion McCollum, and Benjamin Morrison, a pair of cornerbacks, also out, and Josh Williams, another running back is out for them.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's running back so they're down two runners, two corners, and
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: two-wide receivers.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not like they're exactly the healthiest lot.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Levantay David also was on the injury report this week.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: He was limited.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: Jamal Dean, another corner back as a hip injury, but he seems like he's good to go.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: Christian, IZN, a safety, has a quad.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: He's questionable.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: Tristan Worf's and Teddy Bridgewater were also limited throughout the week.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: This seemed to be good to go, but also names to watch out.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: So two good teams that are just man Absolutely beaten up so far through five games
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like those are those are some huge names like on the book in your side right and obviously like for the nine or some of the bigger names aren't even the ones that we said right like George Kittles on yeah, make those up and make those blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, but that's like this is like a 70% versus like a 60% and why
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be, it's weird because it's not really about like who's to quote unquote better team.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like who's back up's play better.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: Which like that's football.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's the way it goes.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, got to deal with it.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, like same thing for the box.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's some questionables there that completely tilt this like this game one way or another.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm Levocchi David can't go equally important on like it's just there's so much uncertainty based around like who's actually going to be on the field come someday.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: So some things to watch out for sadly.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you hate to make it like about the injuries, but it really is going to like these are two teams that are potentially.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: looking to go to the playoffs here this year.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: And if, and the funny thing is if they, if they met in the playoffs, the chances are that the two teams would look completely different in, you know, January, then they would in this game now.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: So if we have a conversation about, they meet in the playoffs and we can't really be like, well, this happened back in October.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: which said we're like, those are two different teams altogether.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: So that would be something to pay attention to, for sure.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so let's go ahead and get into our reasons for optimism and our reasons for concern, and those are brought to you by our friends from Underdog Fantasy.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: Football season isn't full swing and underdog is the best place to get in on all the action.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: Playing an underdog is easy just pick whether your favorite players will go higher or lower on stats like rushing yards, receptions, touchdowns, and more get your picks right and you could win up to 5,000 times your cash.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll go and send it over to Oksha's to talk about his use of the app.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, everyone.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I've talked about Antarctica a lot on this podcast because I just think it's such a fun way to like get involved with whatever sport you're interested in whatever live teams you like I really like it for football.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's really fun to just go through the different games and pick higher and lower and different stats.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm interested in it's always available.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's incredibly intuitive.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: So really easy app to use and I just like I highly recommend, I think, so I'm going to keep your limits about you.

- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I'll just tell us a little bit about why you're feeling good about this matchup for the four yanners.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I think
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, the entry sort of make everything very, very weird.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: But one thing that I think votes well for the 49ers is that the book in your defense top half of the league unit.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: But this is especially true with some of the names you mentioned who are questioned more, or maybe even out.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: Not very good against the pass, right?
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: Not a very good like passing defense.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: And what is the one thing the 49ers have been able to do?
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: you know, they're missing receivers out there.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I think the 49ers do have an ability to sort of attack the Buccaneer's defense on the secondary.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, much better if Jemont Jennings is playing.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: And that might like, if this game appears and to shoot out territory, I think that portends well with the 49ers.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: I will also add very similarly to how the 49ers have basically won our lost every game
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: on a, like, on the last second play, like, very, very close.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: The fucking years wins have basically all been the same way.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they've probably had three game winning drives in the first, like, five, like weeks, which is, like, a, like, important, good for them.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: The nineties are the same.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: But, like,
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: Also, you know, like these are two forward and one teams that have like, in some ways, not really played up to like a caliber of a forward and one team, but they're doing the little things that matter.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we can talk about they tied the game against Seattle last week, and then same Donald through an interception and that's how they won on a lasted and field goal, like just absurd crazy things.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: What are those interceptions?
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard about them.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: They seem good.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: They seem very good.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe we should get some our way or your way rather over towards Florida.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get some interceptions going.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: Sounds good.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think the like past defense is a little bit of a weak spot.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think the bucks have the most for Russia's past rush.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: to align with that past defense.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: So there's an opportunity for the Niners to kind of air it out and take advantage there.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, if you look at.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of weird, because I was going to say the same thing.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: Their defense on a hole is not given up a bunch of yards, and they have some sort of strange like, they only gave up 112 yards passing to the Eagles in the one game that they lost 200 yards total offense.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: But that, I believe the circumstances of that were some giveaways that put
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: the Eagles and some exciting exciting certain in some good circumstances, but yeah I mean they're not it's it's an interesting defense in that on the whole it doesn't it doesn't great out
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: horribly, like, in terms of yardage there, okay, their points are another thing altogether.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: And so that kind of, like, to me, that makes a red flag, like, they're 11th in yards allowed, but they're 23rd in points allowed, which kind of says to me that there might be a little of a phantom thing going on there, where maybe they're just seeing a lot of, like, their allowing scores on a lot of short fields and things like that, it'd be very, it'd be very interesting to kind of dive into that a little bit more.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like you said, if, you know, they're missing two of their cornerbacks, potentially three of their cornerbacks, depending on a gemel deans situation, but it's certainly going to be something to watch even if foreign owners are a little bit.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: banged up in the white receiver room.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I feel like if you have even just Jennings and, and, and, uh, I'm kind of born and to Mark Stravins and with another week of practice, I just feel like that's a, a good enough group against a banged up team.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then the thing that you mentioned about their wins, they won by three against the Thalkins week one, by one against the Texans in week two, by two against the Jets in week three, they lost the Eagles by six, and then they beat the Seahawks by two points or by three points sorry.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what three, four, five, six.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: They won all three of their games by total of nine points.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: now the Niners can't say a whole lot more their their margin of victory is only just a little bit more but Dave they've been able to stand up to that I just I just feel like
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: These teams are very similar to each other, right?
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: There's their kind of mirror images in that they play a lot of close games, even the game that they lost was winnable.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: The defense is good, but not spectacular in the things that they can do.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you talk about interceptions, that they've only, the bucks defense only has two, which is still more than zero, but put, you know what I mean?
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: They're forcing a bunch of turnovers and making it difficult there.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, two very interesting teams neither of which I think you'd look at on paper and go, oh, yeah, they're four and one like they're they're super well contenders But I think there is an important difference differentiation between those two teams which I'm sure we'll get into when we get into the reasons for concern, but
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so I guess all that say like the passing defense for sure, but really just the fact that there, these are too good, but banged up teams, which I think might end up making things a little bit equal and make for a good close game in the end.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I totally agree with you there.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: Jump into that reason for concern.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I have a question for you.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: Who, if right now, if you had a pick, who would like the early front runner for the MVP is, who would you say, well, I mean, I feel like this is a loaded question, uh, because I, I, I know, early leading questions, sorry, is what I meant to say, um,
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: but it's hard to argue against a Baker Bay field campaign at this particular point.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, very concerning.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: Mostly it's like the impressive thing is the touchdown interception ratio, which is 10 to one at this particular point, which is a good place to be.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, go ahead with your thing.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, there you go.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: You kind of just slated out.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Baker Muthro is the difference right now.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: And it's the Buckaineer's offense versus the 49ers' offense.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: Right, right.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: The Bucks, it's somewhat of a similar way, right?
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: Their running game hasn't been as good as their passing game.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers are more extreme here.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: But like, you may feel it's 10 to 1 touchdowns to interceptions.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: He has like 1200 yards.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: A mecca of Duka.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: Their rookie is like the runaway rookie of the year.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think offensive rookie of the year right now.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's just been like phenomenal and highly productive.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: So they have weapons.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: They've scored the ball really well.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they've like,
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: You can shoot out, stay, they've been like dominating that regard.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they've scored six more points per game than the 49ers have.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Despite the nineers having like a higher total yards per game average, just genuinely absurd, they're like,
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: just outside the top 10 in efficiency overall, but the 49ers aren't even in the top half of the league.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, their offense is better.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right now for a variety of reasons, right?
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like, but it is, it's a better offense in like, that to me is worrying because their defense is, you can basically call it to a draw, I would say,
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: the 49ers defense.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, if you look at the stats, the numbers defense up pretty well.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: But the offenses do not line up to a draw.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like total yards, sure.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: But the 90s haven't punched the ball in and the booknears do that.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: The booknears have like a game changer, which is a crazy thing to say about Baker Mayfield.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: But there it is.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like he is playing as well as most any quarterback in the NFL, right?
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like, hmm.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: And that, in a game where there's so many injuries and so many moving parts and teams are not 100% having the guy who can just be like, yeah, like, I'm gonna do this.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: That changes everything.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we saw it almost last year that stupid stiff arm of Nick Bosa and incredible throw and all of that.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: And like a really weird game, like, he's a gamer, not playing really well.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: their offense is firing and all cylinders despite the injuries like my Kevin says and played in the last two or three games and they've kept on going.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: They did like pretty good against a pretty good Seattle defense last week like this is this is a good offense and like it's it's going to be really really difficult and challenging and important for the 49ers to kind of match pace.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah I think that's
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the other thing is that if you look at what what the Buccaneer's defense seems to where it seems to excel most, it's, we talked about how they're passing defenses and all that good, unfortunately if the Niners are looking for a week when they're beginning to be able to get their run game going, it doesn't seem like this is going to be the one, because that's been the area, very similar to the 49ers, where the Buccaneer's defense has been,
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: most successful.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: I know the number suggests that the the Niners have given up a lot more yardage than than it seems like than the in the indication is but I don't know there seems to be some some other stuff going on there.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't I don't
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's more in debt to get there, but I don't think this is going to be the week The other thing you were talking about the Ability to score point so actually both teams are Under 50% in red zone percentage so far this year They have Roughly have about the same amount of temps the bucks are 17 Red zone attempts the Niners are at 19 Niners are only scored touchdowns on eight of those 19 red zone
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: Trips that's 42.1% the buckiniers have scored also on eight and they're at 47.1% so
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: roughly the same, it's just the difference in attempts there.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: If you think about it, it's pretty much the same.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: So the bucks might, if you gave them the same amount of opportunities, they might have scored one more touch now.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe, I don't know.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: The troubling part here is that if there is something that the buckinier's defense, like that, where you can go, this is interesting, and this is kind of a hybrid reason for optimism and concern.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and I should have mentioned this before.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: The box defense is getable in the red zone.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: They've given up touchdowns on 10 out of 14 trips to the to the red zone.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: Niners nine out of 16.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a difference.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: Again, a lot a lot of that.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's different than attempts at this early in the season.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a sample size thing.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: But the bucks are given up touchdowns on 70 almost 72% of their red zone trips.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: where it's a 49ers or just a 56% so that's something to kind of watch out for.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing is like, I mean, really just comes down to Baker.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if he can continue all four of their games have included fourth quarter comebacks and game winning drives,
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: And if he is in a position to do that, you have to be worried about it and whether or not the Niners pass rush can cause enough problems for for him in those situations because his favorite person is not playing and trying to chase him down all day.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: very that is very very true.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: I will also just add right so if the buckiniers have kind of kept pace with the 49ers in terms of red zone, but it's still scoring like subsequently more.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: There is also the like other things which is the buckiniers have been pretty good at generating explosives and explosive touchdowns and those like that's that's a killer like I think that's one thing the 49ers have been exceptional at this year on defense.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's not allowing those.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: they haven't generated.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: I want to say like, ending up those really.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, I feel like Pierce all had one, but he didn't score.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember who that was against.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: But Kendrick, KB had one on Thursday against the Rams.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: That was an explosive play, but it also didn't score.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: So they're generating some of it, but it hasn't been scoring.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: And so like most of their scoring opportunities, have been either field goals or in the redsum.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: which is not like something so it's not not truly not a sustainable thing for a team like this that needs to be able to occasionally go out there and and make things happen suddenly.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so like I just like this book's offense is dangerous like the dangerous offense and like a lot of ways and it's going to be like the 49ers have played fairly well up to this point.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: of the team they played.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: I would say that's true for all of their games, including the Jacksonville one, that was just, yeah, you know, or over some turnovers, but like that, that's like a moving target, right, like they're not playing, like it, well, they're playing like just a little better than whatever team they're playing and get whatever point.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the bucks are going to be the team that push them, like they have to play their best in order to pass, even with all the
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure with all the injuries on the 49ers side, if they can get to that level, please.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just for the record.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I reason I guess 20 is the 20 yards is the explosive cutoff.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: We'll just use it.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: So Ricky Parasal has a long of 45, Joanne Jennings 42, Kendrick born 35, Christian McCaffrey 29, these are receiving, of course, because the explosive running game no existate at all.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: Jake Kyle, you check the 25.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: Jake Thomas 23 and Marcus Robinson 20.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: So that would be, that's it.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: And again, none of those have gone for scores.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: that I can think of.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Tongus is the 20th long did, but but what we're I mean I what we're really talking about is like those 30 plus 30 35 plus plays that the turn into scores I think and that those are 100% not happening.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: longest rush of the season, by the way, 19 yards.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: Ninth.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: Up to here.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Up's just absurd, but.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_00]: And it's pride Robinson, who only has 108 yards.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: McAfrey is 15.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: uh... yeah it's not good uh... all right so let's go ahead and get into the prediction section this is saving up to be a shorter episode but you know that's all good uh... we are we are dropping this not very far in advance uh... that's a fine uh... so what do we think in how is this one gonna shake it shake out uh... access it you said something about about a shootout i'm not anticipating that happening but i've been surprised about things before so what do you think
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: This is a tough one, because I do think these teams are really kind of sort of evenly matching a lot of different ways.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: Right, and obviously I haven't been a homer, but I do think that like there's just enough of a disparity for who's going to be on the field.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: So I have to go with
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like 21, 17, Buccaneers win.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: Not shoot out.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: Not shoot out.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think the Buccaneers will pull it out.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: I had faith in your homerism, but that's all right.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's fine.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a reasonable take.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: It is not what I'm going to do when we go with.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's OK.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's fine.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: Look, it all bounces out last the Thursday game we were like, oh, they're getting blown out.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: They did not.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's gonna happen.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's I think the the two outcomes are Both teams win by close game is the most likely outcome here.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm gonna I'm I'm going home or on it even if you were not prepared to do that I'm going 40 dinners win 24 21
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: Eddie Pinyaro, he's the hero.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: We deserve it's all say again.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just for fun.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just for kicks and giggles.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's, he's the man.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: We like him.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, inactive's are pretty easy.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: We know Rick appears all.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan James, I think remains continues to be out just because I just don't think they have a place for him to do anything, which just says he hasn't really, he hasn't really given the spot or he just hasn't carved out a role yet, which again, I would say let him return kicks, please.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: He might be able to do that.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just try it.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_00]: I am going back and forth on this last one because I think
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, the only real questionable guy, the questionable guys that I'm looking at and going that make me nervous are John Jennings is really just John Jennings.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like the rest of them, I feel like they're probably good to go.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, that's either Jennings or Nick Martin there.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I hope no offense to Nick Martin, I hope it's Martin because we need Jennings out there.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: It would be interesting if the reason that Martin got on to the field is because there's so many injuries otherwise they just simply couldn't choose to like have him as an inactive.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: But I agree with everyone you said, I do think unfortunately the Jennings will not be playing and therefore I'll have Jennings as my final inactive.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: Because the problem is they can't, because they would need to, I mean, if they're gonna have Pierce All and Jordan Walkins and John Jennings out, then they're gonna need some sort of elevation as we're sitting here on Saturday afternoon, ish, we haven't seen anything about that yet.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: If we have that information, I'd feel like we'd know a little more.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we'd be able to say a little more with a little more certainty.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is like, if they're going to elevate a wider server, then it's kind of like, yeah, Jennings is out.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_00]: If they don't elevate a wider server, then I could feel like we'd feel better about Jennings's position and health and write it in how comfortable they feel with him, but we don't.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: And so we go with the information we have.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: Well, ox does any final things to say about this one?
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's an unfortunate game for all the injuries, but it's still an important game, like the NFL doesn't care when it comes to play off seeding or getting it to the playoffs, whether or not you're a healthier not when you play the team you played.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: Correct, just care about whether or not you win.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, it'll be a fun one.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people will be watching it in.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see if they can prove me wrong twice in a row.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_01]: If they can, I'm going to pick against them all the way until the end of the season because So hopefully hopefully that hopefully we can set up a little.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, sure.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that would be bad.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: Just like the rest of season we're like they're going to lose.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: And they win.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: No, we're like we're good.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, well, uh, we want to thank you for listening to this episode of the Nine Arnois Podcast part of the fancited podcast network.
