- 0:04Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Right Time, presented by PrizePix.
- 0:08Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont E.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Jones.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Thanks for listening wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for
- 0:12Speaker 1: watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like, rate us, review us,
- 0:15Speaker 1: give us five stars. You only give us four stars.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I'm inclined to believe you are a hater. We got
- 0:21Speaker 1: a lot of football to talk about. We're also going
- 0:23Speaker 1: to talk about Mike Ditka for a little bit. And
- 0:26Speaker 1: somebody got traded, whatever his name is. But anyway... Seattle
- 0:31Speaker 1: to San Francisco. Every week I've gotten on this show
- 0:34Speaker 1: and told you about how I have not watched San
- 0:36Speaker 1: Francisco actually play. Well, I watched them play this week, okay?
- 0:40Speaker 1: I did. What a weird game. I guess that's the
- 0:44Speaker 1: real theme from the whole weekend. It's kind of like low-key,
- 0:48Speaker 1: every game was weird.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Right.
- 0:51Speaker 1: If a game was normal, I didn't see it. And
- 0:53Speaker 1: I did my little flip around. I had the games
- 0:56Speaker 1: I locked in on, whatever. I did not see a
- 0:58Speaker 1: great deal of normalcy. Ryan, I asked you before the
- 1:01Speaker 1: show how many points off of turnovers there were In
- 1:05Speaker 1: this game. And I want to be clear that the
- 1:08Speaker 1: final score was 32 to 29. So that is 61 points.
- 1:13Speaker 1: How many of them were off of turnovers?
- 1:16Speaker 3: I'm not sure. You tell me.
- 1:17Speaker 1: 38. Yeah, this is real, like a low-key cloud card game, right?
- 1:24Speaker 1: One of the things that was discussed coming into it
- 1:26Speaker 1: was that apparently Mike McDonald was the Brock Purdy kryptonite.
- 1:31Speaker 1: But the truth is, if he's the Brock Purdy kryptonite,
- 1:34Speaker 1: I don't think people want to come to terms with
- 1:35Speaker 1: what they're really saying, which is it's the Kyle Shanahan kryptonite.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And for much of this game, that is exactly what
- 1:43Speaker 1: it looked like. It looked like dropping back, nobody was open,
- 1:46Speaker 1: dude's coming to get you, right? Like they had something
- 1:49Speaker 1: figured out in that regard. On the other side was
- 1:53Speaker 1: same Darnold. Now, again, I understand why so many people refuse,
- 1:59Speaker 1: or they don't understand, they feel like I refuse to
- 2:04Speaker 1: give Darnold credit for what he done better and the
- 2:07Speaker 1: fact that they won a Super Bowl. And I am
- 2:09Speaker 1: not going to give him credit because they won a
- 2:11Speaker 1: Super Bowl. You understand what I'm saying? Like, you heard
- 2:14Speaker 1: that sentence. Him, they. It's different. It's different, okay? He
- 2:22Speaker 1: was not good in this game. And you looked at it,
- 2:25Speaker 1: and I was left with the thought, like it was
- 2:27Speaker 1: a macro interesting thing about the NFL, which is the
- 2:30Speaker 1: possibility that they are the two best teams in the NFL,
- 2:34Speaker 1: which is on the board. Both obviously are clearly limited
- 2:40Speaker 1: by the quarterbacks that they have. Now, that does not
- 2:43Speaker 1: mean limited to the point that you can't win a
- 2:46Speaker 1: Super Bowl, but limited nonetheless. That being said, Ryan, remember
- 2:52Speaker 1: I always say about Brock Purdy, you may think he's
- 2:54Speaker 1: a game manager. He obviously doesn't think of himself as
- 2:57Speaker 1: a game manager. He thinks of himself as the guy
- 2:59Speaker 1: that in the fourth quarter of this game that could
- 3:01Speaker 1: go down there and win it for you. That's what
- 3:05Speaker 1: he sees. That is what he did.
- 3:07Speaker 3: All right, Bo, before we get too far, Mike Evans,
- 3:11Speaker 3: Trayvon Diggs, hysterical interaction.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Dude, Mike Evans, a man about whom I have hot
- 3:17Speaker 1: takes that I will not offer right now. I'll tell
- 3:20Speaker 1: you later. I don't want to do it right now.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I don't want to do it right now, but it's
- 3:23Speaker 1: going to come up at some point. By the way,
- 3:26Speaker 1: him and Keenan Allen, those two dudes look like balding brothers.
- 3:29Speaker 1: They still holding on. He got his George Jefferson Calchocula
- 3:32Speaker 1: shit up there in the front. You seen it?
- 3:35Speaker 3: Not for me.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Okay, that's fine. That's right.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But anyway, if you did not see this, Mike Evans
- 3:42Speaker 1: was talking back to Trayvon Diggs, and he said after
- 3:44Speaker 1: the game he really didn't know who he was. So
- 3:47Speaker 1: he grabbed him by the shoulder, turned him around to
- 3:49Speaker 1: see his name on his back so he would know
- 3:51Speaker 1: who he was talking to. Trayvon Diggs, a former All-Pro.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I can't imagine how offended and how humbling that was.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Who are you anyway? Like, damn, you know, had a
- 4:02Speaker 1: spark when you started, but now you just garbage. Damn,
- 4:06Speaker 1: that was.
- 4:06Speaker 3: That was tough. People, of course, compared it to the
- 4:11Speaker 3: Great Change snatching incident.
- 4:13Speaker 1: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 4:15Speaker 1: I would.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Be remiss if I did not.
- 4:16Speaker 1: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 4:20Speaker 1: That's not the same thing at all. This was highly disrespectful,
- 4:24Speaker 1: but he didn't rip his shirt off of him to
- 4:27Speaker 1: look at his name. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Come on, guys. Some things are sacred. You understand what
- 4:33Speaker 1: I'm saying? Mike Evans and Aqib Tlaib are not the
- 4:36Speaker 1: same person. Although, Mike Evans is from Galveston. Be careful.
- 4:41Speaker 1: By the way, shout out to Brandon Cooks, a.k.a. the
- 4:44Speaker 1: Immaculate Grid All-Star. I don't know how many of you
- 4:47Speaker 1: guys play Immaculate Grid. Ryan, you play Immaculate Grid?
- 4:50Speaker 3: Every once in a while.
- 4:50Speaker 1: All right, so people who don't know how Immaculate Grid works,
- 4:53Speaker 1: Immaculate Grid, the most simple rendering of it is you
- 4:58Speaker 1: get a three-by-three matrix, and on each axis, it'll be
- 5:03Speaker 1: three different things. So it'll be... Three teams on the
- 5:06Speaker 1: vertical axis, three teams on the horizontal axis. So say
- 5:10Speaker 1: that the first one is the Rams and the second
- 5:13Speaker 1: one is the Patriots. They want a player that played
- 5:16Speaker 1: for both the Rams and the Patriots. I said that
- 5:19Speaker 1: because Brandon Cooks. So let's say that he gave you
- 5:22Speaker 1: the Rams and then it went down to the Saints.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Who could you put in the square, right?
- 5:28Speaker 3: Brandon Cooks.
- 5:28Speaker 1: All right. Now, if it gave you the Rams and
- 5:32Speaker 1: you took it down one more and you were then
- 5:34Speaker 1: looking at the Texans.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Brandon Cooks.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Right. He is an immaculate grid all-star. This dude is
- 5:39Speaker 1: always on a different team. He's always good enough to
- 5:43Speaker 1: take on, but not good enough that anybody actually wants
- 5:46Speaker 1: to keep him. He is now on team 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
- 5:54Speaker 3: 2010 draft 2014 oh wow so he's so he's only
- 5:58Speaker 3: been in the league oh yeah it's just seven i
- 6:00Speaker 3: mean this is year 13 13 okay i'm here 13
- 6:03Speaker 3: but this is this is seven teams he's like he
- 6:06Speaker 3: you know what he i.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Give what he's doing Why do jersey swaps when you
- 6:12Speaker 1: can just get all the jerseys yourselves? His base meant
- 6:16Speaker 1: just wall to wall, just all the different stuff down there, right?
- 6:20Speaker 3: And he's done some repeat, you know, seven teams, and
- 6:23Speaker 3: he's on that Josh Johnson. He's been on a couple
- 6:25Speaker 3: teams twice.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Well, no, no. The only one he's been on twice
- 6:27Speaker 1: is yours.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 6:28Speaker 1: He went back to the Saints, but he's also a
- 6:31Speaker 1: guy who was on the Patriots when they lost the
- 6:33Speaker 1: Super Bowl and then went to the Rams, and he
- 6:36Speaker 1: was on there when they lost the Super Bowl to
- 6:38Speaker 1: the Patriots. He dabbles in some of that. Anyway, there
- 6:44Speaker 1: he is now playing for the San Francisco 49ers, and
- 6:47Speaker 1: they got that done. I don't feel like you come
- 6:51Speaker 1: out of that game. If you're San Francisco, you feel
- 6:53Speaker 1: good because it's a game that didn't really feel like
- 6:55Speaker 1: you were going to win it, but you managed to
- 6:57Speaker 1: win it. I did not come out of that feeling like, wow,
- 6:59Speaker 1: these are really good teams. I felt like these are
- 7:01Speaker 1: teams that have really good characteristics. I mean, because, hey, man,
- 7:05Speaker 1: them dudes is carrying. Lumber. There was a lumber being wielded.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Did you see they hit that Mustafa, put on Buddy
- 7:13Speaker 1: in the second half? Oh, yeah. I told you. No,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I'm not going to say that right now. Just that
- 7:21Speaker 1: dude wields violence.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:25Speaker 1: That is the way to put that out there. But
- 7:29Speaker 1: I looked at that like, oh, these are teams somebody
- 7:30Speaker 1: can get. Seattle, this is the second game that they've
- 7:33Speaker 1: lost in part because it was the same Darnold situation.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I mean, that's a lot of turnovers for either side
- 7:42Speaker 1: to have for us to be talking about a team
- 7:43Speaker 1: that we, like, really, really feel good about. That being said, oh,
- 7:48Speaker 1: and by the way, dude, I forget that Seattle probably
- 7:51Speaker 1: wins that if Jackson Smith and Jigba doesn't drop that pass.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Can't blame that one on Sam Darnold. He was right there,
- 8:00Speaker 1: had the opportunity. That's where you get the game right there.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Didn't make it happen. And then Cooper Cup almost got
- 8:07Speaker 1: that first down, but you don't really want Sane to
- 8:09Speaker 1: throw that ball short of the sticks like that under
- 8:11Speaker 1: that circumstance, do you?
- 8:14Speaker 2: No.
- 8:14Speaker 1: No, no, no. That was... I'll tell you this, though.
- 8:17Speaker 1: It was an entertaining game, though, and while there were mistakes,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I didn't feel like... It didn't feel like cuckoo for
- 8:25Speaker 1: Cocoa Puffs. Every other game felt cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs,
- 8:31Speaker 1: just about. But before we get too far in this,
- 8:34Speaker 1: I do want to say shout out to America's Lions,
- 8:37Speaker 1: America's team, the Detroit Lions, for playing a little bit
- 8:39Speaker 1: of defense in that game. Great offense through the first
- 8:43Speaker 1: five weeks. And then I know it's Arizona, but shit,
- 8:46Speaker 1: I didn't feel like last week they could stop the
- 8:47Speaker 1: Arizona Wildcats. So watching them get it done against the
- 8:50Speaker 1: Arizona Cardinals, kudos, right? We got to praise them with
- 8:53Speaker 1: the same tone y'all use to disrespect and poison and
- 8:56Speaker 1: destroy my brothers. Should we go in chronological order, Ryan? Like,
- 9:00Speaker 1: should we start with in the morning?
- 9:02Speaker 3: It was a hilarious day from 9.30 to 11.30 p.m.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Yo, the Eagles. The thing about the Eagles and the
- 9:09Speaker 1: Jaguars was the Eagles– put up a hell of an effort.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I don't know how good of a performance that they
- 9:18Speaker 1: put up. Did Jalen Hurts play well? Yeah, but what
- 9:21Speaker 1: do you expect? You're down Barkley, you're down Lane Johnson,
- 9:24Speaker 1: although I guess we can't say that anymore because he's
- 9:26Speaker 1: never coming back home. Down Devontae Smith, you're playing in London,
- 9:31Speaker 1: all of those things, and they held it together. Jalen
- 9:34Speaker 1: Carter decided he was just going to be a monster.
- 9:38Speaker 1: right yeah jaylen carter at least in the face has
- 9:42Speaker 1: all the looks of what uh dominique foxworth says about
- 9:45Speaker 1: defensive linemen right offensive linemen are in it because they
- 9:48Speaker 1: love their friends defensive linemen are in it because they
- 9:50Speaker 1: love their jobs they they love the opportunity that they
- 9:53Speaker 1: have been given to wreak mayhem and that dude was
- 9:56Speaker 1: flat out mayhem. The Eagles got down there, kicked a
- 10:00Speaker 1: field goal with eight seconds left to win it. This
- 10:02Speaker 1: is after the Jaguars had missed that extra point. And
- 10:06Speaker 1: the Jaguars had all these times that they couldn't just
- 10:08Speaker 1: go for kicks because they were down a long snapper. Um,
- 10:11Speaker 1: and they had a dude today, that dude, they had
- 10:13Speaker 1: log snapping. He looked like he'd ever log snapped. I'll
- 10:16Speaker 1: also say this. He looked like he was 55 years old.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I can't remember his name. I think they said he
- 10:20Speaker 1: went to Ohio state. That was an old looking dude.
- 10:22Speaker 1: But anyway, there was never a world in which I imagined.
- 10:28Speaker 1: that the Jaguars would get that kickoff with eight seconds
- 10:31Speaker 1: left and run it for seven seconds and get a
- 10:34Speaker 1: 50-something yard field goal. I can't imagine how much that
- 10:38Speaker 1: hurts you, Eagles fans. Because you are about to have
- 10:41Speaker 1: one of those we held the season together kind of wins.
- 10:45Speaker 1: This one, you can't even, I don't even know who
- 10:46Speaker 1: there is for you to really be mad at, right?
- 10:49Speaker 1: You just lost. That was it. You just lost. Sirianni
- 10:53Speaker 1: was about to look like a genius for not flying
- 10:55Speaker 1: over there until Friday. Like, that's one of those that's like, oh,
- 10:58Speaker 1: that's why you're the coach. Because despite everything going wrong
- 11:01Speaker 1: around you, you guys held it together under these circumstances.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Way to go, fellas. Nope.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Lost.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Lost.
- 11:10Speaker 1: That's it. But somehow I feel like they feel better
- 11:13Speaker 1: about losing than the commandos feel about not losing. Certainly
- 11:21Speaker 1: not winning.
- 11:22Speaker 3: That felt like a loss.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Oh, my goodness. All right, so first of all, let's
- 11:25Speaker 1: talk about this from the Giants' end of it. Jameis
- 11:28Speaker 1: Winston was good in the second half of that game.
- 11:31Speaker 1: In the rain, right? Brought this back. Got it where
- 11:35Speaker 1: they needed to. It was a skedaddle that blew the
- 11:37Speaker 1: game with the fumble at the end.
- 11:40Speaker 2: But.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Jameis Winston is your starter for the rest of the year,
- 11:43Speaker 1: and I will point out, in fairness to him, this
- 11:46Speaker 1: is the first time that he's going to have gotten
- 11:49Speaker 1: this much regular action. Since 2019, we have seen guys
- 11:55Speaker 1: like Geno Smith, for example, go from being what most
- 11:58Speaker 1: of us thought was terrible to taking about a seven-year
- 12:00Speaker 1: break and coming back and being an NFL quarterback. We
- 12:03Speaker 1: saw Jameis in his first run be a better quarterback
- 12:05Speaker 1: than we ever saw Geno Smith be in his first run.
- 12:08Speaker 1: It is possible that Jameis gets this together, and he
- 12:11Speaker 1: is great, and it's still going to be the Jameis experience. But,
- 12:14Speaker 1: you know, this could turn out a little better than
- 12:17Speaker 1: I had given it credit for being, and everybody needs
- 12:19Speaker 1: to understand that. If J.J. McCarthy was capable of being
- 12:24Speaker 1: a starting quarterback, you don't get him for a fifth-round pick.
- 12:29Speaker 1: That just doesn't happen, right? Jameis is going to be
- 12:31Speaker 1: the guy. They had it. The end of that game, however,
- 12:34Speaker 1: for Washington, it is currently 10-12 Eastern Daylight Time as
- 12:39Speaker 1: we are recording this. And I can't believe nobody's gotten
- 12:42Speaker 1: fired yet.
- 12:43Speaker 3: I just looked. I just double-checked. I was literally looking
- 12:47Speaker 3: it up to make sure.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I can't. I don't even.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I don't know if I can appropriately describe to you
- 12:53Speaker 1: what happened for Washington, but the long of the short
- 12:55Speaker 1: is they ran one play in 50-something seconds, a play
- 13:01Speaker 1: that they did not have to run, and the only
- 13:04Speaker 1: purpose the play ultimately served was making it impossible to
- 13:07Speaker 1: run another play, which needed to be the field goal,
- 13:10Speaker 1: to go ahead and win that game after they had
- 13:13Speaker 1: gotten down the field. It was one of the most
- 13:16Speaker 1: brain-dead endings where it is not often that something is
- 13:20Speaker 1: truly a collective failure. Offensive coordinator shouldn't have called another play.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Head coach should have overruled the offensive coordinator. quarterback should
- 13:33Speaker 1: have overruled all of them. Like I remember once when
- 13:36Speaker 1: Vic played for the Falcons, it was a thing once
- 13:39Speaker 1: that he got into a press conference. They asked him
- 13:40Speaker 1: what he did on some play. And he said, he,
- 13:43Speaker 1: what did we do? He said, overcome coaching. And people
- 13:45Speaker 1: were like, yo, you shouldn't talk about the coach like that.
- 13:47Speaker 1: But it turned out that is when Jim, the young
- 13:49Speaker 1: Jim Mora was the coach. And that was something they
- 13:52Speaker 1: told them is that sometimes you're going to have to
- 13:54Speaker 1: overcome coaching, right? Sometimes the coach is going to make
- 13:56Speaker 1: some mistake and you're going to have to be the
- 13:57Speaker 1: one to overcome it, which not incorrect. Jaden Daniels had
- 14:02Speaker 1: to overcome coaching right there. And like I was watching
- 14:04Speaker 1: on TV before we got out of here, my buddy
- 14:06Speaker 1: Foxworth is talking about, you know, he's a third-year player.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I think Foxworth is a little more on my team
- 14:09Speaker 1: than this, than other people who have mentioned he's a
- 14:12Speaker 1: third-year player. Jaden Daniels is a third-year player, but he's
- 14:15Speaker 1: not a three-year-old. It's not the third year he's played
- 14:18Speaker 1: football in total. He can count. You know this is not,
- 14:21Speaker 1: like this isn't.
- 14:23Speaker 3: The offensive coordinator can talk to Jaden.
- 14:25Speaker 1: They were. They all, they were just out there just,
- 14:28Speaker 1: I don't know what they were doing, just shooting the shit,
- 14:29Speaker 1: what they were talking about in the headset, listening to music.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I have absolutely no idea what happened. But they, I
- 14:37Speaker 1: can't imagine how bad that tie felt, right? Under the
- 14:42Speaker 1: heading of things people used to say but probably wouldn't say,
- 14:45Speaker 1: but I'm going to say while making a reference to
- 14:49Speaker 1: what somebody else said. One time, this is back when
- 14:52Speaker 1: ties were prominent in college football before they had overtime.
- 14:57Speaker 1: And I think Michigan had a year where they went 8-0-3.
- 15:00Speaker 1: They went undefeated, but they had three ties. And I
- 15:04Speaker 1: forget who they had tied in that game. And Lee
- 15:06Speaker 1: Corso got on the bike and said, hey, they say
- 15:10Speaker 1: that ties like kissing your sister, but losers like kissing
- 15:13Speaker 1: your brother. I don't think that Washington sees the difference now.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I think they view it all the same way, which,
- 15:23Speaker 1: by the way, is the way that we should in
- 15:26Speaker 1: a non-heteronormative world, I think. But, yeah, no, no, no.
- 15:32Speaker 1: That was clown car. Clown car. I feel like I'm
- 15:36Speaker 1: missing another clown car game. No, no, no. I think
- 15:40Speaker 1: that's all. I mean, the Titans, do they count? Cleveland
- 15:43Speaker 1: finally lost. That was looking kind of clown car. toward
- 15:47Speaker 1: the end in that game. And then, of course, there
- 15:49Speaker 1: is the most classic vintage clown car of them all,
- 15:53Speaker 1: the Atlanta Falcons. Oh, speaking of people getting fired, is
- 15:57Speaker 1: anybody with the Chargers going to get fired today? Like,
- 16:01Speaker 1: I'm trying to, once you get to, oh, like, I
- 16:02Speaker 1: was certain that Todd Bowles was going to get fired
- 16:04Speaker 1: if they lost that game on Thursday night in Tampa,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and they did not, right?
- 16:08Speaker 2: Um....
- 16:10Speaker 1: 0-5, somebody's got to go, right? I don't know if
- 16:13Speaker 1: it's Mike McDaniels. I don't know if it's Harbaugh. Generally speaking,
- 16:16Speaker 1: somebody has to go because the Broncos changed play callers,
- 16:20Speaker 1: and it looked pretty much the same. At least I
- 16:22Speaker 1: could tell statistically speaking. Bo Nix looked mad familiar. The
- 16:27Speaker 1: problem does not seem to be who's calling the play.
- 16:29Speaker 1: The problem seems to be who the guys are that
- 16:31Speaker 1: are on the field, and the Chargers still lost. Still
- 16:35Speaker 1: lost that game. Now you're sitting at 0-5. There's no
- 16:38Speaker 1: sign it's going to get better. I don't know how
- 16:40Speaker 1: far this necessarily has to go, but normally somebody gets
- 16:44Speaker 1: fired under these circumstances. Anyway, back to that black and
- 16:48Speaker 1: red clown car that is the Atlanta Falcons. I was
- 16:51Speaker 1: texting with our good buddy, Sean Hughes. during the game
- 16:56Speaker 1: for those of you who remember our buddy sean sean
- 16:58Speaker 1: is a falcons fan for reasons i don't quite understand
- 17:01Speaker 1: that's hilarious yeah yeah yeah yeah i can't remember he
- 17:03Speaker 1: gave me an explanation for why i just can't remember
- 17:06Speaker 1: it right now um so sean texts me and says
- 17:10Speaker 1: i don't i know i shouldn't but the falcons are
- 17:13Speaker 1: so fun this season and i'm hopeful brian i replied
- 17:17Speaker 1: to him I've been here trying to figure out how
- 17:21Speaker 1: they're going to lose this game. This game is a
- 17:23Speaker 1: game at home against the Baltimore Ravens with a backup quarterback.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I've been trying to figure out how they're going to
- 17:30Speaker 1: lose this game. And then at 11.39, I get the
- 17:34Speaker 1: text from Sean that says, they're doing it. And how
- 17:38Speaker 1: did they do it, Ryan? Quite honestly, the old-fashioned way. Yes.
- 17:42Speaker 1: It just happened.
- 17:42Speaker 3: The way they always do.
- 17:43Speaker 1: It just happened. They just let Snoop Huntley beat them. Now,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I mean, I'll say this. The value of a good
- 17:50Speaker 1: backup quarterback. Not necessarily a starting caliber guy, but a
- 17:53Speaker 1: guy that can come in and win a game for you, perhaps.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Especially if you're playing against the Falcons. Came in, marched
- 18:00Speaker 1: down the field on him. And then when it was
- 18:02Speaker 1: time to come back the other way, Michael Penix gets hurt.
- 18:06Speaker 1: They got to bring Tua in for the overtime. Huntley
- 18:10Speaker 1: marches down the field on him again. And then Tua,
- 18:13Speaker 1: with one of them, Tua, a classic Tua Tug of
- 18:16Speaker 1: Iowa interception, which is to say, I know exactly where
- 18:20Speaker 1: I'm going with this ball before the snap and going
- 18:22Speaker 1: right there, except right there is a dude that played
- 18:25Speaker 1: for the other team. Right there. Right there. And you
- 18:29Speaker 1: know what, Ryan? I'm almost prepared to say despite that,
- 18:33Speaker 1: since the Saints are 1-4, I know how much you
- 18:36Speaker 1: guys love to lose games to Minnesota. Well, no, you guys,
- 18:42Speaker 1: one of the biggest wins in your history was against Minnesota, too.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Sure was.
- 18:45Speaker 1: That's right. With Brett Favre through that ridiculous interception.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Hasn't been the same since. That was in January of 2010.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Boy, the Saints players seemed like they were extra motivated
- 18:54Speaker 1: in that game. Almost like there was like an incentive
- 18:57Speaker 1: structure in place that made them really want to go
- 18:59Speaker 1: out there and, you know, lay the hammer to Brett Favre.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Wonder what that was all about, huh? What do you think, right? Oh,
- 19:06Speaker 1: it was a big game. It was the NFC Championship game.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it was an important game.
- 19:09Speaker 1: That's all it was. You're right. But the Falcons can
- 19:14Speaker 1: still win that division. And Sean is right. They are fun.
- 19:18Speaker 3: They are.
- 19:19Speaker 1: They are. But Tua.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Oh, boy. Tua had that one good game in the
- 19:28Speaker 1: Georgia Dolby, January of 2018, and it's been downhill ever since. Okay,
- 19:39Speaker 1: I want to start by saying rest in peace to
- 19:42Speaker 1: Mike dicka i have spent i guess friday was it
- 19:46Speaker 1: friday the dicka passed friday or thursday i have spent
- 19:51Speaker 1: way more time than i expected since then thinking about
- 19:57Speaker 1: like mike dicka and what it is that i would
- 20:01Speaker 1: or might say about my dick on this show And
- 20:05Speaker 1: something really fascinating hit me. In most of the discussion
- 20:10Speaker 1: that I've seen about Ditka, the most I've seen online,
- 20:16Speaker 1: the best that I've seen on television by and large,
- 20:19Speaker 1: you know the part that I feel like we haven't
- 20:22Speaker 1: really talked about that much? Football. And the reason I
- 20:29Speaker 1: think that's interesting is because... There's an irony to the
- 20:39Speaker 1: magnitude of Mike Ditka's fame and why he matters so much.
- 20:44Speaker 1: And that is that he absolutely 100% presents or presented
- 20:52Speaker 1: as a man who placed substance before image. But that
- 21:00Speaker 1: was the image itself. And we, even in this moment,
- 21:06Speaker 1: have not discussed the substance of Mike Ditka nearly as much, okay?
- 21:13Speaker 1: But the image was an image of substance. That's not
- 21:17Speaker 1: to say he wasn't a man of substance. I'm not
- 21:19Speaker 1: questioning what kind of man he was. I'm just talking
- 21:22Speaker 1: about us and what the importance is that Ditka has
- 21:25Speaker 1: overwhelmingly as a figure of sport and also of pop
- 21:31Speaker 1: culture and of media.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Okay?
- 21:34Speaker 1: So let's start with football as the world got to
- 21:37Speaker 1: know Mike Ditka in the first place. And something I
- 21:39Speaker 1: think a lot of people, especially if they're younger, probably
- 21:43Speaker 1: aren't thinking about Ditka. Mike Diggins was the first tight
- 21:48Speaker 1: end to be voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- 21:51Speaker 1: He was not simply a good player. He's a legitimately
- 21:55Speaker 1: revolutionary figure in the evolution of professional football. He is
- 22:00Speaker 1: the first great receiving tight end, right? Like he's almost
- 22:05Speaker 1: like wide receiver slash tight end for a lot of people.
- 22:09Speaker 1: We saw some interview we talked about. We had something
- 22:10Speaker 1: like 15 catches his senior year. in college and had
- 22:14Speaker 1: 58 his first year in the NFL like Mike Ditka
- 22:18Speaker 1: 1961 is a thing in the annals of professional football
- 22:22Speaker 1: right moving toward the the tight ends that you see
- 22:25Speaker 1: now when you think about the Travis Kelsey's or whatever
- 22:27Speaker 1: the the beginning of that really is Mike Ditka it's
- 22:31Speaker 1: like Mike Ditka and it is John Mackey for the
- 22:34Speaker 1: Colts but like Ditka is a significant part of what
- 22:37Speaker 1: we're talking about here okay But that's not why people
- 22:42Speaker 1: really think of and remember Ditka. We think of and
- 22:44Speaker 1: remember Ditka as a football coach and as a legendary
- 22:49Speaker 1: football coach. But this is what's interesting about that for me.
- 22:55Speaker 1: In the 80s, from, we'll start it for this, from
- 23:01Speaker 1: 1981 through 1988, there were Four teams from the NFC
- 23:12Speaker 1: who went to, let's take it to 1990, honestly, but
- 23:15Speaker 1: there were four teams in the NFC who went to
- 23:17Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. There were three coaches who are Hall
- 23:23Speaker 1: of Famers, and there were three coaches who won multiple
- 23:28Speaker 1: Super Bowls in that run. And then there was Mike Ditka.
- 23:34Speaker 1: He was the other one. Now, that being said, the
- 23:39Speaker 1: Bears had a run, 85-88, where the Bears had the
- 23:42Speaker 1: best winning percentage over four seasons of any team in
- 23:46Speaker 1: the history of the NFL. The 1985 Bears are a
- 23:51Speaker 1: canonical team in the history of the NFL. But what
- 23:56Speaker 1: is interesting about that, that team is defined by its defense.
- 24:04Speaker 1: which is Buddy Ryan's defense, Ditka is the offense guy.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Like Ditka, Ryan, you'll like this. Ditka's a lot like
- 24:13Speaker 1: Les Miles in two senses, right? One, Les Miles is
- 24:18Speaker 1: an offense guy that felt like a defense guy.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 24:21Speaker 1: And number two, say what you want about Les Miles.
- 24:25Speaker 1: you knew what the personality of a Les Miles team
- 24:28Speaker 1: was going to be.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Yes. Right?
- 24:30Speaker 1: Like, as a face of franchise guy or a face
- 24:33Speaker 1: of the operation, you know, as the man on the marquee, right?
- 24:37Speaker 1: Chef Boyardee, whichever one you want to throw out there.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Les Miles is excellent at that part. Mike Ditka's the
- 24:43Speaker 1: same thing for the Bears, but if you were to ask, like,
- 24:47Speaker 1: the defining characteristics of that run or those teams... Football wise,
- 24:52Speaker 1: Ditka's kind of like a CEO type of coach. Like
- 24:55Speaker 1: he was the special teams guy when he was with
- 24:57Speaker 1: the Cowboys. Like there's also a certain irony to Ditka
- 25:00Speaker 1: in that we think of him as Bears guy, but
- 25:03Speaker 1: his greatest coaching influence is probably Tom Landry. Right. Because
- 25:06Speaker 1: that's the guy whose staff that he played under. We
- 25:10Speaker 1: think of Ditka as a Chicago guy. Ditka's not from Chicago.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Ditka's actually from Pittsburgh. But the way I always talk
- 25:16Speaker 1: about with James Harden, that James Harden his whole life
- 25:18Speaker 1: thought he was a LA dude, and then he got
- 25:20Speaker 1: to Houston, it was like, shit. This fits me like
- 25:24Speaker 1: a glove.
- 25:25Speaker 3: For sure.
- 25:25Speaker 1: That's Mike Ditka, right? And I think Ditka's people are
- 25:28Speaker 1: from Ukraine, but like an Eastern European... in the center
- 25:32Speaker 1: of Eastern European life in the United States, and at
- 25:37Speaker 1: a time where, because cities and things were a bit
- 25:40Speaker 1: more siloed off, the personality of each individual city, at
- 25:46Speaker 1: least I find, you tell me if I'm wrong, because
- 25:48Speaker 1: I don't consume this stuff nearly as much, but whether
- 25:51Speaker 1: it be TV or movies or all of these things,
- 25:54Speaker 1: cities were characters in the previous time in a way
- 25:57Speaker 1: that I don't feel like they are now.
- 25:59Speaker 3: Right.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Right. Like every Woody Allen movie is about New York,
- 26:02Speaker 1: for example, like a character in that sense. But there
- 26:05Speaker 1: was a picture and a portrait or an idea of
- 26:07Speaker 1: what Chicago was. And I push back a little bit
- 26:10Speaker 1: when people talk about Ditka being like so representative of
- 26:12Speaker 1: Chicago because, hey, all those black people. However, There is
- 26:17Speaker 1: a very particular Chicago element that Ditka himself became the
- 26:22Speaker 1: face of. Like the Saturday Night Live sketches with the
- 26:25Speaker 1: bears and that whole accent. All that stuff is very
- 26:29Speaker 1: definitively Chicago and the idea that Ditka is their hero
- 26:32Speaker 1: Ditka gets there. Ditka's one of them. And Ditka just presents.
- 26:37Speaker 1: This is what, like I always say, the thing, the
- 26:39Speaker 1: reason sports are so popular, man, sports are a celebration
- 26:41Speaker 1: of masculinity within a society. And say what you want
- 26:44Speaker 1: about Ditka. Ditka was giving you man, right? Like this
- 26:47Speaker 1: is what a man is. And at that time, this
- 26:50Speaker 1: is what a football coach felt like. Dick is the
- 26:54Speaker 1: embodiment of that. But it's so interesting because the guys
- 26:57Speaker 1: of that era that were more successful, they weren't giving
- 27:00Speaker 1: you that.
- 27:01Speaker 2: No.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Parcells did to a degree. But even with Parcells that
- 27:05Speaker 1: we could point to like contributions, like football philosophies that
- 27:08Speaker 1: Bill Parcells has, we can point to. That's not what
- 27:11Speaker 1: Dick gave you. Dick was giving everybody. was vibes, right?
- 27:18Speaker 1: Ditka felt like for the second largest city in America,
- 27:22Speaker 1: though maybe it was third by that time, he felt
- 27:24Speaker 1: like the coach of the high school team. And I
- 27:26Speaker 1: mean that in a positive way, right? Like the guy
- 27:29Speaker 1: that represented the town and like, you know, you can
- 27:32Speaker 1: just imagine him pulling up and everybody, hey, hey, coach, hey, coach,
- 27:35Speaker 1: like all of those things, right? Like a tie back
- 27:37Speaker 1: to the time, he always taught, he called Coach Hallas,
- 27:40Speaker 1: he called George Hallas, Coach Hallas, he called Tom Landry,
- 27:42Speaker 1: Coach Landry, right? Like that era of the way that
- 27:44Speaker 1: we looked at coaches and the way that we saw people,
- 27:48Speaker 1: he is a throwback to that ready-made for the era
- 27:54Speaker 1: of television. And it reminds me of what is Mike
- 27:57Speaker 1: Ditka's greatest gift and the biggest reason that we talk
- 28:01Speaker 1: about him, which is what he projected was sincerity and
- 28:06Speaker 1: the idea of being a genuine person, And he did
- 28:11Speaker 1: that while pulling off a balance that very few people
- 28:14Speaker 1: ever do, which is he is a man who clearly
- 28:19Speaker 1: loved cameras and microphones, but never seemed desperate or thirsty
- 28:25Speaker 1: for them. You don't spend that much time on TV,
- 28:34Speaker 1: whether it be as the coach and doing press availability
- 28:37Speaker 1: and stuff, doing the Mike Ditka show in Chicago, right? Now,
- 28:42Speaker 1: part of that also, to be fair, was those guys
- 28:44Speaker 1: who played back in the day, they take every check
- 28:46Speaker 1: you put in front of them because they did not
- 28:48Speaker 1: make that much money at that time, right? They believe
- 28:50Speaker 1: in getting that money after they have that chance. But
- 28:52Speaker 1: after Ditka left and he had all that money, Ditka
- 28:55Speaker 1: was coming and doing ESPN and NBC and all these
- 28:58Speaker 1: shows and everything else.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Movies, TV.
- 29:02Speaker 1: All and commercials. Bill Walsh, those guys I just listed
- 29:07Speaker 1: for you, Bill Walsh wasn't doing commercials. Joe Gibbs wasn't
- 29:11Speaker 1: doing commercials. Don Shula wasn't out there doing a gang
- 29:14Speaker 1: of commercials. Not like Dickens. And what were Dickens' commercials? Rust-Oleum.
- 29:18Speaker 1: You know, like, you know, that tough guy stuff. That man,
- 29:22Speaker 1: and he's really good at it. Okay? Had a clear
- 29:26Speaker 1: and distinct look. wore things that other people wanted to wear.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Like when people make that argument about nobody was dressing
- 29:34Speaker 1: up like the other coaches, but they dressed up like Ditka.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Like Ditka's like John Madden in the sense that he
- 29:39Speaker 1: had a gift. for the television thing while never seeming
- 29:43Speaker 1: like he clamored for the camera. But when the camera
- 29:47Speaker 1: got there, he was always there and ready for it.
- 29:53Speaker 1: And that's the reason that Mike Ditka is an enduring
- 29:57Speaker 1: figure for us who grew up in that time. But
- 30:01Speaker 1: it's ironically not really about football. He's a Hall of
- 30:08Speaker 1: Fame player. He wasn't a Hall of Fame coach. He's
- 30:12Speaker 1: not going to get in. Now, you can make an argument,
- 30:14Speaker 1: why is Bill Cowher a Hall of Fame coach and
- 30:16Speaker 1: Mike Ditka is not? That to me is more of
- 30:19Speaker 1: a question about Bill Cowher than it is about Mike Ditka.
- 30:22Speaker 1: It will lead to an awkward discussion about Mike Tomlin
- 30:25Speaker 1: down the line. But he's not. I don't think anybody
- 30:30Speaker 1: would get up. I mean, Dickie got this far. Nobody
- 30:33Speaker 1: sees him as that. But he felt like a football coach.
- 30:37Speaker 1: He looked like a football coach. He sounded like a
- 30:41Speaker 1: football coach. And you basically believed that he meant every
- 30:45Speaker 1: word that he said. That's what it was about. the
- 30:52Speaker 1: image and the presentation and the projection of substance, but
- 30:59Speaker 1: in some ways that more so than the actual substance. Again,
- 31:04Speaker 1: not that he wasn't a man of substance, but the
- 31:06Speaker 1: football resume, not quite as substantial as you would think,
- 31:10Speaker 1: given what we talk about. Just about every coach that
- 31:13Speaker 1: we talk about on a canonical level, has a better
- 31:17Speaker 1: resume than Mike Ditka does. None of this is shade
- 31:20Speaker 1: to Mike Ditka. I want to be very, very clear, right?
- 31:24Speaker 1: None of this is any measure of like, I'm saying
- 31:26Speaker 1: he's overrated or anything like that. No, no, no, no.
- 31:29Speaker 1: I'm just pointing out that honestly, deep down when it
- 31:31Speaker 1: comes to the way that we talk about coaches, the
- 31:34Speaker 1: things that we care about are not the football things themselves.
- 31:40Speaker 1: It's kind of the elevated role that a coach plays
- 31:45Speaker 1: in a society, right? As a figure and a person
- 31:50Speaker 1: that you are here to respect. Ditka embodied that part.
- 31:57Speaker 1: And it makes you look around and like the dudes
- 31:58Speaker 1: that we got that are coaches now, these football genius types.
- 32:02Speaker 1: I'm sure that's great for business, but it's not as
- 32:06Speaker 1: great for the product. to be perfectly honest. Like, Sean McVay,
- 32:09Speaker 1: Sean McVay's been doing that job now, I think this
- 32:11Speaker 1: is his 10th year. He's been to two Super Bowls.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Great chance he ends up in the Hall of Fame.
- 32:16Speaker 1: We all think about what a great coach. None of
- 32:17Speaker 1: us give a damn about him. Not any of us do. Like,
- 32:24Speaker 1: Rod and I were thinking about something, a series that
- 32:26Speaker 1: we might do, and I was thinking about this with
- 32:28Speaker 1: the 1980s, that the 80s were such a big thing
- 32:31Speaker 1: for the NFL, because, yeah, you had the 70s with
- 32:34Speaker 1: the Cowboys and the Steelers, you know, the Your teams
- 32:37Speaker 1: in the 70s, Cowboys, the Steelers, the Dolphins, the Vikings, right?
- 32:41Speaker 1: Like these are teams that all went to three or
- 32:43Speaker 1: more Super Bowls, had a dynastic sort of feel, you know,
- 32:46Speaker 1: through their run and everything else. What the 80s gave
- 32:48Speaker 1: the NFL was very good to great teams with very
- 32:55Speaker 1: important figures in New York, Washington, Chicago, Both Los Angeles
- 33:05Speaker 1: teams mattered at that point. Through the middle of the 80s,
- 33:09Speaker 1: the Cowboys still mattered. You still had Don Shula in Miami,
- 33:15Speaker 1: but you had big markets. with teams that mattered a lot.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Like the heyday of the NFC East. Ryan, like I
- 33:24Speaker 1: realized that's where our age difference comes in. The NFC
- 33:27Speaker 1: East was the SEC of the NFL when I was
- 33:30Speaker 1: growing up. The NFC itself was its own like dominant world.
- 33:34Speaker 1: The AFC had the quarterbacks. The NFC had the teams.
- 33:37Speaker 1: But like I was talking to Goff about this, and
- 33:39Speaker 1: you know, there's a lot of people in Chicago, including
- 33:41Speaker 1: guys on these teams that felt like they should have
- 33:43Speaker 1: won more Super Bowls than the one they won. Except
- 33:45Speaker 1: think about this. 85, the Bears won. 86, the Giants won. 87,
- 33:50Speaker 1: Washington won. 88, the 49ers won. Those are all like
- 33:56Speaker 1: dynastic feeling. The Giants a little bit less, but Washington
- 34:00Speaker 1: won three Super Bowls. Between 82 and 91. The 49ers
- 34:05Speaker 1: won four Super Bowls in the 80s, right? The Bears,
- 34:09Speaker 1: they just got to one, but all these 14s, I'm
- 34:11Speaker 1: talking about playing the same conference. So like saying that
- 34:15Speaker 1: Dick only won one Super Bowl isn't an insult. It's
- 34:18Speaker 1: just that the resume doesn't stack up. But in terms
- 34:22Speaker 1: of your life and you as a fan of watching this,
- 34:25Speaker 1: who matters more, Bill Walsh or Mike Ditka? Who matters
- 34:29Speaker 1: more if you did not live in Washington? Joe Gibbs
- 34:33Speaker 1: or Mike Ditka? Who endures more? The answer was Ditka.
- 34:40Speaker 1: It just wasn't exactly about football. And, you know, that's okay.

- 36:11Speaker 1: need to replace equipment, stock up on inventory, cover payroll,
- 36:15Speaker 1: take advantage of an opportunity, and somehow the traditional bank
- 36:19Speaker 1: wants you to fill out paperwork like you're applying to
- 36:21Speaker 1: join the CIA. That's where Cardiff comes in. Their application
- 36:25Speaker 1: takes about three minutes. There's no impact on your personal

- 37:18Speaker 1: and information of the day.
- 37:19Speaker 3: No need for the social media feeds. We got you. Now,
- 37:23Speaker 3: if you haven't heard. All right, Bo, if you haven't heard,
- 37:26Speaker 3: presented by PrizePix, a highly drafted wide receiver for the
- 37:31Speaker 3: Arizona Cardinals, has now been traded to Houston Texans, reunited
- 37:34Speaker 3: with his former college teammate, C.J. Stroud. Bo, what'd you
- 37:39Speaker 3: make of this move?
- 37:39Speaker 1: Okay, so for those of you who don't know, you
- 37:46Speaker 1: know who he's talking about. Marison. So young Marison will
- 37:53Speaker 1: now go to the Texas. I am shocked that the
- 37:55Speaker 1: Cardinals were able to get, what was it, a two
- 37:57Speaker 1: and a five?
- 37:58Speaker 3: I think it was a two and a six for
- 38:00Speaker 3: him and a seventh.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I could not believe that they could get a
- 38:03Speaker 1: two for him. He has been... So back in the day,
- 38:09Speaker 1: disappointing receivers was just kind of like another day at
- 38:12Speaker 1: the office in the draft. It happened all the time.
- 38:15Speaker 1: The growth, the growth, the learning curve for receivers used
- 38:18Speaker 1: to be so much steeper. Now they do a much
- 38:20Speaker 1: better job of getting guys who could come in and play.
- 38:23Speaker 1: And this guy being the one who can't has been
- 38:26Speaker 1: shocking of all those Ohio State receivers prior to Jeremiah Smith.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Most of us would have argued that the best one
- 38:32Speaker 1: was this dude. And he has been bad. Now, you
- 38:35Speaker 1: also notice, Ryan, I don't know if you've seen this,
- 38:37Speaker 1: there's been a bit of warring information coming out about
- 38:40Speaker 1: this one. The receiver side is like, man, he went
- 38:45Speaker 1: in there and asked them to get him a machine
- 38:47Speaker 1: to help him practice catching, and they wouldn't spend the
- 38:49Speaker 1: $ 50, 000 on it. And I don't know if that's why
- 38:53Speaker 1: he's been sorry, but okay. You showed me the graphic
- 38:59Speaker 1: of the top five picks that have been traded in
- 39:03Speaker 1: the first three years. None of them really turned out
- 39:07Speaker 1: to be good. after the fact. I think the closest
- 39:10Speaker 1: ones were like Joe Washington, but that was a trade
- 39:12Speaker 1: in like a contract dispute. Not like this.
- 39:16Speaker 3: It's nothing recent.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Yeah, if a team is willing to give up on
- 39:20Speaker 1: you at this point, the likelihood that you're good is
- 39:23Speaker 1: not that high. That being said, CJ Stroud has been
- 39:29Speaker 1: much better than he was when we saw him to
- 39:31Speaker 1: close out the year last year. He was not very
- 39:35Speaker 1: good the first game of the year, but numbers all
- 39:37Speaker 1: seem to indicate he's been all right as this year
- 39:39Speaker 1: has gone. Nico Collins has been hurt for much of
- 39:43Speaker 1: this year, but I've never been wild about their receivers.
- 39:49Speaker 1: I feel like adding, you know what I'm saying, to
- 39:53Speaker 1: this receiver room is kind of saying both to the
- 39:57Speaker 1: receiver and the quarterback. All right, fellas, no excuses. You know,
- 40:01Speaker 1: like I would be shocked if Stroud did not have
- 40:05Speaker 1: a level of involvement in them making this move. Like
- 40:09Speaker 1: you're just getting this guy from college. Who knows? Maybe
- 40:11Speaker 1: they hate each other. But I mean, I find it
- 40:12Speaker 1: unlikely that they would do this. without having some serious
- 40:14Speaker 1: conversation with the quarterback. And I would also imagine that
- 40:20Speaker 1: the receiver would probably look at it as a good
- 40:22Speaker 1: thing to go play with this guy that he used
- 40:24Speaker 1: to go with. But what we're saying is– okay, used
- 40:27Speaker 1: to go with sounded different than I meant for it to.
- 40:30Speaker 1: But anyway, hey, man, 18 going to have to go
- 40:35Speaker 1: get the ball and seven going to have to get
- 40:36Speaker 1: it to him. I mean, I really think it comes
- 40:40Speaker 1: down to this because– The Texans are now 1-4. The
- 40:46Speaker 1: likelihood of them going to the playoffs is close to nonexistent. Yeah.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Hold on. Let's get a look, though. Let's get a
- 40:54Speaker 1: look here. Okay. They get the Jaguars at home, which
- 40:59Speaker 1: I think is a winnable game.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Possible.
- 41:00Speaker 1: I mean, I just saw what it looked like with
- 41:03Speaker 1: the Jaguars' last game.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Oh, that's in London.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Oh, you're right, 9.30 a.m. You're right. They're going on
- 41:11Speaker 1: to the bye week. The Giants, winnable. Chargers, winnable. Browns, winnable. Colts, winnable. Hey!
- 41:25Speaker 3: And you still probably get the Titans again?
- 41:27Speaker 1: Well, the Titans are the last game of the year.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 41:32Speaker 1: It's Ravens, yeah, Steelers. commandos jaguars again the eagles who
- 41:38Speaker 1: might have quit by then um the packers and the
- 41:41Speaker 1: titans there's room here there's there's there's room here for
- 41:48Speaker 1: them to scrape in and make something happen in a
- 41:51Speaker 1: division where i don't think the cults are good i
- 41:54Speaker 1: know the titans aren't good and i am not I
- 41:57Speaker 1: can't believe the Jaguars won that game against the Eagles.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And it's not in any way that makes you feel
- 42:03Speaker 1: good about the Jaguars is all I'm saying. Maybe they
- 42:07Speaker 1: think they can figure this out. I don't know. But
- 42:13Speaker 1: if he was as not good as he was before,
- 42:17Speaker 1: I don't feel like he's not going to play with
- 42:19Speaker 1: Tom Brady.
- 42:21Speaker 3: There's a possibility he was the worst wide receiver in
- 42:24Speaker 3: the NFL this year and last year.
- 42:26Speaker 1: And that's a wild thing to consider and a wild
- 42:29Speaker 1: thing to say. Hey, you ever, like, I don't know
- 42:33Speaker 1: how much this happens so much in the NFL. I
- 42:37Speaker 1: imagine it happens a bit. But I know that for
- 42:41Speaker 1: the college coaches, you know, it's not out of the
- 42:47Speaker 1: realm of possibility that you might have to deal with
- 42:50Speaker 1: their parents. You know what I'm saying? Like that time
- 42:53Speaker 1: that Diddy threw a weight at the strength coach. Right?
- 42:59Speaker 1: I don't know if that happens so much in the pros.
- 43:03Speaker 1: You think that, you know, sometimes dad's calling the pros. Sometimes, Ryan,
- 43:05Speaker 1: you imagine that?
- 43:07Speaker 3: I bet it's happened before. I bet we saw it happen.
- 43:10Speaker 1: So what would you do? What would you do? Like
- 43:15Speaker 1: if this receiver, if his dad, like, called up and
- 43:17Speaker 1: just said he wanted to have a chat.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Do I have caller ID?
- 43:20Speaker 1: I mean– Something tells me that he calls from a
- 43:26Speaker 1: flip phone with an unidentified number on it.
- 43:30Speaker 3: I throw that at my car.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I mean, just like, but no, no, no,
- 43:34Speaker 1: because if you don't pick up the phone, he's going
- 43:35Speaker 1: to pull up. So what do you think? Like, I
- 43:40Speaker 1: imagine that you take the call somewhere where everybody can
- 43:44Speaker 1: see you. You know, maybe you take it, you meet
- 43:48Speaker 1: him in the lobby at a Starbucks, somewhere well lit.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Everybody knows, you know, high trafficked.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Yeah. And, and, and, and, you know, stay on top
- 43:59Speaker 1: of your paperwork. You know what I'm saying? Like, like
- 44:03Speaker 1: that's what you gotta, you gotta, you gotta make sure
- 44:05Speaker 1: everything's lined up. You never know what could happen on
- 44:07Speaker 1: a given point. Let's talk about something else.
- 44:14Speaker 3: All right, Bo, let's get to our voicemails. Got some
- 44:17Speaker 3: more on this topic.
- 44:20Speaker 4: Hey, what's up, bro? This is B from New Orleans,
- 44:23Speaker 4: and I'm catching up on episodes, and I think I'm
- 44:26Speaker 4: all caught up now. And in a previous Foxworth Thursday,
- 44:31Speaker 4: y'all was talking about some wide receiver. I didn't really
- 44:35Speaker 4: catch his name. He said he had no weaknesses, and
- 44:39Speaker 4: y'all seemed a little perplexed by that. And my question
- 44:42Speaker 4: to y'all is, you going to be the one to
- 44:44Speaker 4: put that he got weaknesses down on paper and have
- 44:46Speaker 4: to deal with his daddy? Yeah, because I feel it wouldn't.
- 44:54Speaker 4: So that might be why they said he had the weaknesses.
- 44:58Speaker 4: But we see it. We see it.
- 45:00Speaker 3: We saw what he did this Sunday. Anyway, y'all have
- 45:02Speaker 3: a good one, bro. See ya.
- 45:04Speaker 1: You know, when you put it in those terms, maybe. Maybe.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Don't you want to talk about something else?
- 45:18Speaker 3: Oh, we're... We got one more on this topic.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Okay. Hey, Moe. It's Ron.
- 45:24Speaker 5: I'm watching this Houston Titans game, and I got a
- 45:28Speaker 5: question for you.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Who would win in a fight?
- 45:31Speaker 3: D'Amico Ryans or Robert Sullen? I love what you guys do.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Oh, that's a different discussion. That's a... Ooh. That's a...
- 45:41Speaker 1: I'm not going to lie. I'd pay $ 75 to watch
- 45:43Speaker 1: that one.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Yes.
- 45:45Speaker 1: And here's the thing. Are we talking about a fight
- 45:48Speaker 1: or a wrestling match? Because that sounds like a wrestling match. Or,
- 45:53Speaker 1: I guess they too old for this, an Oklahoma drill.
- 45:57Speaker 3: Oh, I guarantee you they don't think they're too old
- 45:59Speaker 3: for an Oklahoma drill.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Ooh, ooh, that's a good question.
- 46:04Speaker 5: Wow.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. I can only imagine that
- 46:09Speaker 1: Nick Saban's greatest regret is that he didn't take that
- 46:12Speaker 1: Alabama job earlier so that he could coach D'Amico Ryans.
- 46:15Speaker 3: I bet he would have loved D'Amico Ryans.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Loved D'Amico Ryans so much.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Loved D'Amico Ryans.
- 46:23Speaker 1: But Salah... Dude, that's a rumble right there. That's, how
- 46:28Speaker 1: do we make this happen? How do we get, see
- 46:32Speaker 1: the problem is Domingo too cool. He ain't gonna say
- 46:34Speaker 1: nothing to Salah like Liam said to Salah that one time.
- 46:39Speaker 1: That's not, how do, ooh.
- 46:41Speaker 3: Those are two of the obvious one seeds for coaches
- 46:45Speaker 3: you wouldn't want to fight, correct?
- 46:47Speaker 1: They are. It's kind of like when Greg O and
- 46:50Speaker 1: Kevin Durant were in the same draft. I'm not talking
- 46:52Speaker 1: about how it turned out. I'm just talking about that draft.
- 46:55Speaker 1: It was a clear number one and a clear number two.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin, right? It was a clear
- 47:00Speaker 1: number one and a clear number two. I'm going to
- 47:02Speaker 1: do a quick scan and see if there's anybody else.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Mike Vrabel, he's a little older, though. I don't know
- 47:07Speaker 1: if he's still got the.
- 47:09Speaker 3: And he's been humbled.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. That's true. He's trying to get the dog
- 47:16Speaker 1: out of him. Ooh, hold on. Forgot about Dan Campbell.
- 47:20Speaker 1: That's a one seed.
- 47:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:22Speaker 1: That's a.
- 47:24Speaker 3: I think those are our four ones.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Hold on. Let me make sure we're not missing anybody else.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Because we definitely have three. Vrabel... Yeah, I think Vrabel's
- 47:34Speaker 1: a tough one, but, yeah, he's probably in there as
- 47:38Speaker 1: a one seed. I'm going to tell you this now.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I'm not betting against Jim Harbaugh. I'm not betting on him,
- 47:45Speaker 1: but I'm not betting against him.
- 47:46Speaker 3: That's a frisky three or four.
- 47:48Speaker 1: No telling what can happen.
- 47:50Speaker 3: All right, here's our next one.
- 47:54Speaker 5: Bomani, Ryan, love what y'all do. First, along the lines
- 48:00Speaker 5: of a popular topic, Desiree, Brittany, Katrina, three white women
- 48:07Speaker 5: I have met in the last three years who have
- 48:10Speaker 5: black names. I also wanted to ask a question. A
- 48:14Speaker 5: good friend of mine has taken to calling Caitlin Clark
- 48:20Speaker 5: Jane Harden, as in a female version of James Harden,
- 48:25Speaker 5: and pointed out inefficiency in big games, etc., wanted to
- 48:31Speaker 5: get your take on whether we have a female version
- 48:34Speaker 5: of Mr.
- 48:34Speaker 3: Harden in the W.
- 48:36Speaker 5: I love what you're doing. Thanks for the show.
- 48:39Speaker 3: I listen every week.
- 48:41Speaker 1: All right, so first of all, I don't think she's
- 48:43Speaker 1: good enough to be James Harden as of yet, but
- 48:46Speaker 1: you're chancing the fates with that one right there. Number two, Ryan,
- 48:51Speaker 1: I don't know if you picked up on this, but
- 48:54Speaker 1: I feel like, I think I told you about this,
- 48:57Speaker 1: that there's a study that was done once that says
- 48:59Speaker 1: that basically once a neighborhood becomes 30% black, it will
- 49:02Speaker 1: soon be 100% black. Like once it turns 30% black,
- 49:05Speaker 1: it is officially become a black neighborhood and the white
- 49:07Speaker 1: people hightail it up out of there. And when we
- 49:11Speaker 1: did game theory, I had a line about basketball where
- 49:14Speaker 1: I said basketball is like the name Tyrone. Once black
- 49:17Speaker 1: people got a hold of it, white people ain't even
- 49:19Speaker 1: want to know more. um has that happened with the
- 49:22Speaker 1: name britney because he threw britney out there as a
- 49:24Speaker 1: black name and i was like how have have we
- 49:27Speaker 1: housed that one has that has that has that would
- 49:29Speaker 1: be transferred over to our side because there was a
- 49:32Speaker 1: run and i ain't gonna lie i kind of judged
- 49:35Speaker 1: some of y'all for this but it was a run
- 49:36Speaker 1: where black people were really getting off giving their kids
- 49:39Speaker 1: these white people names like these clueless type names right
- 49:42Speaker 1: like you start getting you know Well, the one I
- 49:44Speaker 1: was about to throw out there, Riley, apparently you're still
- 49:46Speaker 1: holding on to it. But I was going to say
- 49:48Speaker 1: Riley is on the list.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:50Speaker 1: You know, but I see you're standing your ground.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I am. So, yeah.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Ryan just had a Riley, just so you understand.
- 49:58Speaker 3: For sure.
- 49:59Speaker 1: But, you know, but like that was out there. You
- 50:01Speaker 1: get some Bailey's. out there every now and then. And
- 50:04Speaker 1: we've been getting on to Britney's. We've been there, but
- 50:07Speaker 1: I associate Britney as the pinnacle of white names. I
- 50:11Speaker 1: think of Britney as, wasn't one of the girl chipmunks
- 50:15Speaker 1: of Britney? Of the album of the chipmunks. That's... Yeah. Oh, wow.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Thanks for making me feel old.
- 50:23Speaker 3: I'm aware of the original Chipmunks.
- 50:25Speaker 1: I know the Chipettes. That's what they were called. Yes.
- 50:28Speaker 1: And yes, and I recall my recollection is that Brittany
- 50:32Speaker 1: was like the snobbiest of them all. Like that. Yeah, yeah. Brittany.
- 50:35Speaker 1: That's right. It was Brittany, it was Jeanette, and it
- 50:37Speaker 1: was Eleanor. That's right. I remember because Eleanor used to
- 50:41Speaker 1: kick it with Theodore. Which is interesting because Theodore was
- 50:46Speaker 1: a different Roosevelt. Wow, we're just going all over the place. Anyway,
- 50:49Speaker 1: if we got Brittany, all right, then it's ours.
- 50:53Speaker 3: All right, here's our last one.
- 50:56Speaker 5: Hey, Bo, how's it going?
- 50:57Speaker 2: This is Kyle coming in right outside of one of
- 51:01Speaker 2: your favorite cities, Youngstown, Ohio. Wanted to share a story
- 51:07Speaker 2: with you. Just got done hearing your podcast with Joel
- 51:11Speaker 2: where you mentioned how Jerry Rice did not go to college.
- 51:17Speaker 2: Mississippi City or Ole Miss and it reminded me of
- 51:22Speaker 2: a story my dad's old boss had where he was
- 51:26Speaker 2: in the 80s at a trade show in Indiana and
- 51:31Speaker 2: these guys were trying to give away some tickets to
- 51:34Speaker 2: a football game that day and no one was taking
- 51:37Speaker 2: the tickets and he couldn't understand why and this isn't
- 51:41Speaker 2: exactly the black name white guy story, but this is
- 51:46Speaker 2: the four white guys ended up taking the college football
- 51:50Speaker 2: tickets to the first ever Circle City Classic, which was
- 51:55Speaker 2: between Grambling State and Mississippi Valley State. And they got
- 52:02Speaker 2: there and looked around and were like, oh, are we
- 52:06Speaker 2: at a place that we're not accustomed to? They didn't
- 52:09Speaker 2: exactly know what to do, but then some Mississippi Valley
- 52:14Speaker 2: State fan came over and said, you guys can't leave.
- 52:17Speaker 2: You're going to miss Worldman. And they're like, who is Worldman?
- 52:21Speaker 2: And they explained to him that there's this guy on
- 52:24Speaker 2: the team they call Worldman because the things that this
- 52:27Speaker 2: guy does are out of this world. That guy would
- 52:31Speaker 2: be one Jerry Rice, who they ended up staying for
- 52:34Speaker 2: the game, which turned out to be a 48-36 loss.
- 52:39Speaker 2: Mississippi Valley State win where Jerry Rice had eight catches,
- 52:45Speaker 2: 174 yards, and two touchdowns, including a 62-yard game-winning touchdown late.
- 52:51Speaker 2: He says to this day it's been the best game
- 52:55Speaker 2: that he's ever been to. and that could possibly be
- 52:58Speaker 2: because he is a Brown season ticket holder as well.
- 53:01Speaker 2: But love the show, and would also want to know
- 53:04Speaker 2: if he's interested in hearing a story about a guy
- 53:07Speaker 2: whose legal name is Alabama.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Thanks. I'm offended that you even thought you had to ask.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Of course I want to know about a guy whose
- 53:17Speaker 1: legal name is Alabama. I want to know if that
- 53:20Speaker 1: dude went out there and tailgated, right? Because let me
- 53:22Speaker 1: tell you something, here's the thing. My daddy talked about this.
- 53:26Speaker 1: My daddy worked at Mississippi Valley State for a little while.
- 53:28Speaker 1: My daddy's from a little town called Oakdale, Louisiana, so
- 53:31Speaker 1: familiarity with the Deep South is not beyond him. And
- 53:35Speaker 1: he's like, hey, man, all these places are the same,
- 53:37Speaker 1: but the Delta's different. Like, getting your introduction to negritude
- 53:41Speaker 1: being pulled up on a Mississippi Valley State game is,
- 53:45Speaker 1: that's an interesting way to get accustomed. I want to hear,
- 53:48Speaker 1: did he get his tailgate on? You know what I'm saying?
- 53:51Speaker 1: This is how you know Jerry Rice is cold. That
- 53:53Speaker 1: white man didn't even say nothing about the band. You know,
