- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites of the Podcast presented by BET
- 0:12Speaker 1: three six five. We are part of the Volume podcast Network.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I am Chad Moment of the Action Network. Today. I'm
- 0:18Speaker 1: joined as always by my co host, my companion, my compadre,
- 0:22Speaker 1: my BFF professional better Signmon Hunter l O Simon.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Hello, Chad. What a sports weekend, brother.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I mean, look, the Draft was amazing and we're going
- 0:34Speaker 1: to talk about that, no shortage of drama, and you
- 0:37Speaker 1: and I we are going to go through the entirety
- 0:41Speaker 1: of the league. We're going to talk about the NFC today.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Tomorrow we're going to touch on the AFC a very
- 0:47Speaker 1: special episode. It's going to come out a day earlier
- 0:51Speaker 1: than usual. Thursday, we'll do an episode, our third episode
- 0:55Speaker 1: of the week, about the Kentucky Derby, with our annual
- 0:57Speaker 1: guest Mike Conti. But dude, I don't know about you. Like,
- 1:03Speaker 1: for some reason, I ended up kind of having no
- 1:06Speaker 1: plans this weekend, and so I watched a ton of
- 1:11Speaker 1: the Draft, and then I watched so much NBA and
- 1:15Speaker 1: these games were insane. The Clippers and the Nuggets was insane.
- 1:20Speaker 1: The Pistons and the Knicks was insane. The Lakers and
- 1:23Speaker 1: the Tea Wolves was insane, but also somehow I found
- 1:28Speaker 1: myself watching the Cubs and the Phillies on Saturday, and
- 1:31Speaker 1: the Cubs and the Phillies last night. It was like
- 1:34Speaker 1: a full on sportacular.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it's especially someone like me who was kind of
- 1:42Speaker 2: a phony NBA fan, where I just because my team
- 1:45Speaker 2: sucked the Sixers. I barely watch any but I mainly
- 1:47Speaker 2: watched college basketball. But as soon as the playoffs hit,
- 1:50Speaker 2: I feel like we all just dive back in because
- 1:51Speaker 2: that's when everyone's trying. The games are really competitive and
- 1:55Speaker 2: it just means so much more and you really can tell,
- 1:57Speaker 2: like the level of plays, so just such a huge
- 2:00Speaker 2: step up. So yeah, for me, it's really fun. But
- 2:03Speaker 2: I know is like someone that tries to bet it.
- 2:05Speaker 2: It is crazy jumping into it trying to especially you
- 2:08Speaker 2: know the actually newhere. We have a ton of basketball content.
- 2:11Speaker 2: We've been trying to bet these overtime bets. I love it.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It's like fifteen to one, sometimes twenty to one. That
- 2:17Speaker 2: to me has been really fun sweating these games. Like
- 2:19Speaker 2: I don't pick a side, I'm just betting overtime and
- 2:21Speaker 2: hoping to hit one in every series. So yeah, it's
- 2:23Speaker 2: been really fun.
- 2:24Speaker 1: The athleticism of these guys is ridiculous, and like even
- 2:29Speaker 1: the third fourth level guys. The ability their hands are
- 2:34Speaker 1: so good in this interior passing and the way these
- 2:36Speaker 1: guys can see and they move the ball like it's
- 2:40Speaker 1: just remarkable, like you cannot help but love watching it.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And the level of competitiveness is so intense, like like
- 2:50Speaker 1: that Piston's next game yesterday or watching it on Sunday,
- 2:54Speaker 1: actually so glorious. I really wanted the Knicks to lose,
- 2:59Speaker 1: like I love this's team. It's so much fun. I
- 3:02Speaker 1: kind of wanted the Lakers to beat the Tea Wolves,
- 3:04Speaker 1: but Anthony Edwards is just glorious to wash like we are.
- 3:09Speaker 1: We are in it right now. Steph Curry the other night,
- 3:13Speaker 1: oh my god, like his step backs, the way he
- 3:17Speaker 1: can put on the brakes. He willed that team to victory.
- 3:20Speaker 1: It is. If you're not watching the NBA plass right now,
- 3:23Speaker 1: you got to get into it. But we are going
- 3:26Speaker 1: to get into the NFL drafts because here's how crazy
- 3:31Speaker 1: and fun the NFL Draft is. Thursday night, we were
- 3:35Speaker 1: watching the Pistons Knicks in my house and even my son,
- 3:39Speaker 1: who's a massive NBA fan wanted to turn on the
- 3:43Speaker 1: first round of the NFL drafts, and I think a
- 3:45Speaker 1: lot of it was because of Shador Sanders, which we're
- 3:49Speaker 1: going to get to. As a reminder, The Favorites podcast
- 3:51Speaker 1: is presented by Bet three sixty five. New Bet three

- 4:11Speaker 1: It's never ordinary. At Bet three six y five. Must
- 4:14Speaker 1: be twenty one or older and present in Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, Louisiana,
- 4:19Speaker 1: North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or eighteen and
- 4:22Speaker 1: older in Kentucky. Gambling problem called one eight hundred gambler
- 4:26Speaker 1: or one eight hundred bets off in Iowa terms. Conditioned
- 4:29Speaker 1: restrictions apply, all right, I mean, look, there were there
- 4:34Speaker 1: were players that dropped, right Will Johnson injury, Mike Green,
- 4:38Speaker 1: the linebacker from Marshall, there were some questionable character issues,
- 4:44Speaker 1: so he fell to the Ravens. But there's only one
- 4:48Speaker 1: story here, shardor Sanders shadrourw Sanders dropping. We talked about
- 4:53Speaker 1: this last week with Raybon and Evan. How did this
- 4:58Speaker 1: impact your bets seeing how he dropped?
- 5:03Speaker 2: I mean I lost money on it. I thought, uh,
- 5:05Speaker 2: the over, I like the over two and a half
- 5:06Speaker 2: quarterbacks first round, and you know, it just goes to
- 5:10Speaker 2: show that I think you kind of got to tell
- 5:14Speaker 2: on what people you can kind of trust and follow
- 5:16Speaker 2: in the sports media that give out these mocks. I
- 5:19Speaker 2: just don't understand how these people it's their jobs and
- 5:22Speaker 2: you had people saying he was their top five guy,
- 5:24Speaker 2: their number one quarterback on their draft board, Let's do
- 5:28Speaker 2: one in the fifth round. So there's clearly a disconnect there.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Like I I can't wrap my head around that part
- 5:34Speaker 2: because it's like I get a lot of it. A
- 5:36Speaker 2: lot of these people are phonies and they don't really
- 5:37Speaker 2: talk to anybody, but like, how could you, how could
- 5:40Speaker 2: you have been so off? And you know, typical fashion,
- 5:44Speaker 2: the stories come out after right chat, It's like, you know,
- 5:46Speaker 2: Apparently he wore headphones to meetings at the combine when
- 5:51Speaker 2: he's meeting with teams with music playing on his headphones
- 5:53Speaker 2: and then puts it around his neck while the music
- 5:56Speaker 2: keeps playing while doing the interviews with these teams. I
- 5:59Speaker 2: can't wrap my head around that's real. If that's real,
- 6:01Speaker 2: that's it. Truly is insane that he was self sabotaging
- 6:03Speaker 2: because there's teams he didn't want to go to where. Yeah,
- 6:06Speaker 2: the NFL, it's a business, it is a sports league,
- 6:10Speaker 2: but if you take them to court, they say entertainment first.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I don't know the collusion. I know Chad knows, doesn't
- 6:16Speaker 2: know about the collusion, but something went on. Like this kid,
- 6:19Speaker 2: anyone could tell you he's got second round talent at worst,
- 6:23Speaker 2: right his arm talent. Things you can do in the field, Okay, personality,
- 6:26Speaker 2: bump them down to a third round chat, I'll give
- 6:28Speaker 2: them that. But for this kid to drop to the
- 6:31Speaker 2: fifth round, you know, he must have just burned a
- 6:34Speaker 2: ton of bridges and the league humbled them. And you know,
- 6:38Speaker 2: I love the historical data, dove it right in. I
- 6:41Speaker 2: asked myself, who is a great fifth round quarterback? Chat?
- 6:44Speaker 2: I don't know if you could think on one for
- 6:45Speaker 2: a second. I got an answer for you. It's zero.
- 6:48Speaker 2: It's never happened in the NFL. So I'm excited for
- 6:51Speaker 2: him to prove these teams wrong and write his own
- 6:54Speaker 2: story or he's going to fall apart, be a wash
- 6:58Speaker 2: out of a league of three four years and these GMS,
- 7:00Speaker 2: these teams were right. So really interesting storyline to file
- 7:03Speaker 2: for the next three four years out of what Sanders
- 7:05Speaker 2: is going to become.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Well, look the meltdown, the meltdown for lack of a
- 7:11Speaker 1: better term, of Kuiper and watching him kind of get
- 7:16Speaker 1: angrier and angrier as the days went on, of how
- 7:21Speaker 1: Shador Sanders was dropping when he had him as QB
- 7:25Speaker 1: one from the beginning and never wavered. And he actually
- 7:30Speaker 1: talked about this because I like, it was riveting to me,
- 7:34Speaker 1: and I think by I don't know what it was
- 7:37Speaker 1: Saturday afternoon, I was watching the draft at this point
- 7:44Speaker 1: only to see where Shudor Sanders was going to go.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And it's kind of like when everybody was watching the
- 7:51Speaker 1: second round of the NBA draft last year to see
- 7:53Speaker 1: what happened to Bronni. When Shador Sanders finally got drafted
- 7:58Speaker 1: in the fifth round went on air and said, these
- 8:03Speaker 1: are the number of quarterbacks from the fifth round who
- 8:06Speaker 1: have ever made the Pro Bowl. Something to that extent.
- 8:11Speaker 1: The number was zero. It was like in the third
- 8:14Speaker 1: round you had like sixteen, and the.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Fourth round of comally it's freak.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Seventeen even in the sixth round because of Brady, but like,
- 8:22Speaker 1: you know, zero in the fifth round, and you really
- 8:27Speaker 1: got to look at this. The NFL, for all of
- 8:31Speaker 1: its failings, and we've talked a lot about the inability
- 8:35Speaker 1: to accurately scout quarterbacks. It is rare. The reason why
- 8:41Speaker 1: everyone talks about it when a Puka Nakua comes out
- 8:45Speaker 1: of nowhere, when a Tom Brady comes out of nowhere.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Because those are the exceptions. Shdor Sanders is going to
- 8:53Speaker 1: have to defy tremendous odds to get on that field
- 8:57Speaker 1: and be effective and be the player that everyone thought
- 9:00Speaker 1: he would be in all of their mock drafts. Kudos
- 9:03Speaker 1: to Evan and Raybond who, throughout their draft podcasts they
- 9:08Speaker 1: were saying this guy is not a first round talent.
- 9:11Speaker 1: They weren't saying he was a fifth round talent. But like,
- 9:16Speaker 1: this is not a guarantee that just because he's going
- 9:18Speaker 1: to a team that might be the right fit for him,
- 9:21Speaker 1: that he's going to get a chance to be the
- 9:22Speaker 1: guy everyone thought he could have been when they were
- 9:24Speaker 1: mocking him to go in the first round.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah, like I told you months ago, I had Scott
- 9:29Speaker 2: tell me this guy was the second round talent. They
- 9:31Speaker 2: didn't tell me he was off their draft board. Like
- 9:33Speaker 2: that was the thing that was the most shocking. It's
- 9:35Speaker 2: like the day after everyone's like, no, the half these
- 9:38Speaker 2: teams did have this guy is a top you know,
- 9:40Speaker 2: four round picks. Some had them off his their draft board.
- 9:42Speaker 2: It's like who had them off his draft board? Like
- 9:45Speaker 2: he had to have self sabotage? Yet I just none
- 9:47Speaker 2: of it. Nothing else makes sense where it's like, you know,
- 9:51Speaker 2: I try to look go through and think of that,
- 9:53Speaker 2: who are the cockiest personalities come out of the last
- 9:55Speaker 2: ten years, Like that's what I was trying to think of.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Who would go in there and be such an asshole
- 10:00Speaker 2: that they were just like I don't care the talent level.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I'm downgrading this kid. I'm not nobody exactly the thing
- 10:06Speaker 2: that's exactly like the only ones I could pop my head.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I'm like, even if Joe Burrows cocky as shit. He
- 10:12Speaker 2: wasn't an asshole, He wasn't ignorant about it. He wasn't
- 10:14Speaker 2: going to these meetings being like I'm hot, shit, I
- 10:17Speaker 2: don'm not. I'm not even taking an interview with the Bengals.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'm too good to go to Cincinnati. You didn't hear
- 10:22Speaker 2: any of that with Joe, even though you know he
- 10:25Speaker 2: could come off his arrogant to a lot of people.
- 10:27Speaker 2: You know, it's it's a fine line, and you know
- 10:30Speaker 2: he had the talent obviously to back it up, where
- 10:33Speaker 2: these teams are saying to say ers, you do not
- 10:35Speaker 2: have the talent to back up your personality. So yeah,
- 10:38Speaker 2: it's it's gonna be a hot topic chat for the
- 10:40Speaker 2: next couple of years just because everyone obviously had an
- 10:43Speaker 2: opinion on it when it was happening. I'm sure you're
- 10:45Speaker 2: the same way where part of you feels bad, but
- 10:47Speaker 2: there's another part of you of he had to have
- 10:50Speaker 2: brought the sun himself, like there's no other exp Like,
- 10:53Speaker 2: these guys are trying to win. This is a business.
- 10:55Speaker 2: So for all of them together to take a stand
- 10:58Speaker 2: and say this kid's a fifth round pick, it was shocking.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Like we just said, we all at worst I'll use
- 11:04Speaker 2: the second round pick. He was three rounds later, Chad.
- 11:07Speaker 2: So yeah, definitely the craziest storyline of the weekend.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Well, look, what's interesting about the NFL, and what's interesting
- 11:13Speaker 1: about NFL owners is the tolerance for criminal misbehavior, violent
- 11:22Speaker 1: misbehavior versus their tolerance for attitude misbehavior, potential distractions in
- 11:34Speaker 1: the locker room, Shegar Sanders, cocky, arrogant, you know, distraction,
- 11:41Speaker 1: Colin Kaepernick, distraction. But how many players get drafted, how
- 11:48Speaker 1: many players get second chances, how many players are atop
- 11:53Speaker 1: anybody's draft board after egregious criminal mistakes, right, And so
- 12:01Speaker 1: you can see what the line is for NFL owners.
- 12:05Speaker 1: They don't want anyone who is going to make noise
- 12:09Speaker 1: and challenge them from a personality perspective, But they don't
- 12:16Speaker 1: mind people who are going to challenge what are considered
- 12:19Speaker 1: to be the appropriate ethics and beliefs that they should have.
- 12:24Speaker 1: It's a very interesting study. There's no denying it. Like
- 12:29Speaker 1: where owners fall on the line of challenging personality versus
- 12:34Speaker 1: challenging criminal behavior.
- 12:37Speaker 2: There is, But it's because of the money. Brother. It's like,
- 12:40Speaker 2: like I love Tim Tebow, you can't have Tim Tebow,
- 12:43Speaker 2: But be your third stringer. That's why Tim Tubo was
- 12:45Speaker 2: at the league. Who wants to hear about your third
- 12:46Speaker 2: shrink quarterback all the time? So I get what you're
- 12:49Speaker 2: talking about. But at the end of the day, you
- 12:51Speaker 2: know a lot of these guys do have personalities. They
- 12:54Speaker 2: just the money so insane. They know, right, don't say shit,
- 12:58Speaker 2: just play the play the game. So you know, the
- 13:00Speaker 2: only guy that really can say shit is Aaron Rodgers
- 13:02Speaker 2: because he's on his way out, he can be a
- 13:05Speaker 2: little crazy talk about doing drugs and all this other stuff.
- 13:08Speaker 2: In the off season. You ain't never gonna hear any
- 13:10Speaker 2: of these young guys talking about that stuff, Chad. So yeah,
- 13:13Speaker 2: I just I can't get over how how that happened.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Like you said, the whole meltdown on TV with Mel,
- 13:20Speaker 2: it was theater. It's it's what we love is humans.
- 13:22Speaker 2: It's just it's crazy to watch.
- 13:24Speaker 1: It was such good theater. Yeah it was. It was glorious.
- 13:28Speaker 1: And you know what good from Mel, like good for
- 13:30Speaker 1: Mel that he stuck to his guns and he's done
- 13:33Speaker 1: this in the past. Look, there's that infamous scene with
- 13:37Speaker 1: Bill Pollion when.
- 13:38Speaker 2: They they're gonna say Jimmy Clawson that's even that's more recent.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Well yeah, obviously, but but no, I remember Jimmy Clawson
- 13:44Speaker 1: and he's saying this guy should make eight Pro Bowls
- 13:46Speaker 1: and whatever.
- 13:46Speaker 2: But he said, you quit, You said he would, right, tire.
- 13:50Speaker 1: That's right. But what's interesting is like mel is an
- 13:53Speaker 1: affable guy. We love melt We've had him on the
- 13:55Speaker 1: show and I think he's fantastic and what he's done
- 13:59Speaker 1: with the dress is amazing. But I love that he
- 14:03Speaker 1: will be stubborn on certain things and this is a
- 14:08Speaker 1: relationship business and he does not back down from it,
- 14:12Speaker 1: and he cannot be challenged by anybody for his opinions
- 14:16Speaker 1: because he's been right so often and he created what
- 14:20Speaker 1: has now become this massive, massive industry of covering the
- 14:24Speaker 1: draft and being mesmerized by the draft. And I love
- 14:27Speaker 1: the fact that he has been pounding the table on
- 14:30Speaker 1: Shudur Sanders. I don't care about Shouldrew Sanders' success or failure.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I am interested to see if Shudrew Sanders can make
- 14:39Speaker 1: Mel Kuiper look good, because that, to me, is going
- 14:43Speaker 1: to be a storyline that is going to be relevant
- 14:47Speaker 1: until it's decided. And the way these things go, look,
- 14:51Speaker 1: Geno Smith, his career becomes career until he was ten
- 14:54Speaker 1: years in. So in ten years mel Kuiper might long
- 14:57Speaker 1: be retired and he can finally be proven right about Shuldress.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Sanders Well, I said, say, and he's ceiling with Gino Smith.
- 15:02Speaker 2: So you know, I don't know how much that's winning
- 15:05Speaker 2: mel Kiper. The at the end of it, if it
- 15:08Speaker 2: is a Geno Smith type, it's like, all right, way
- 15:09Speaker 2: to go.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Well, it's funny because he does have that list of
- 15:13Speaker 1: players drafted who were who slid down the board, who
- 15:18Speaker 1: he had as much higher ranked players. Geno's on there,
- 15:22Speaker 1: Jimmy Clawson is on there. I think there were eight
- 15:25Speaker 1: guys on there, and six of them have gone on
- 15:28Speaker 1: to really productive careers. Two of them Jimmy Clawson and
- 15:30Speaker 1: somebody else did not. And he's got one more guy
- 15:33Speaker 1: on there, Will Levis, who you know, it remains to
- 15:35Speaker 1: be seen, but it's not looking good. That wasn't on
- 15:38Speaker 1: the list. And to me, like, I don't know, Geno's
- 15:45Speaker 1: done okay, like he's had a good few years. I
- 15:48Speaker 1: think that our are sort of seen in a better
- 15:53Speaker 1: light because of where he came from. And so you know,
- 15:57Speaker 1: we're going to talk about the Raiders for the show tomorrow,
- 16:00Speaker 1: and I think that they'll be in a good position.
- 16:03Speaker 1: But no one's looking at the Raiders. It's like a threat.
- 16:07Speaker 1: And so if Shadr Sander's going to be a guy
- 16:10Speaker 1: who is good enough to make a team win some games,
- 16:14Speaker 1: but never a threat, We're gonna find out. But it's
- 16:16Speaker 1: gonna be a great story and it's why this league
- 16:18Speaker 1: is so much fun.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Give them hard knocks, Oh.
- 16:22Speaker 1: God, that would be amazing. There's you know, there's all
- 16:25Speaker 1: those goofy rules about hard knocks, but who knows if
- 16:28Speaker 1: they're eligible for hard knocks. But if the NFL knows
- 16:31Speaker 1: what it's doing, which it definitely does as an entertainment entity,
- 16:36Speaker 1: they will figure out how to fix those rules. So
- 16:37Speaker 1: Cleveland is one hundred percent in hard knocks again. All right,
- 16:43Speaker 1: I want to get to team by teams here, NFC
- 16:46Speaker 1: East start with the Giants. You know, they had Abdul Carter,
- 16:49Speaker 1: great pick, everyone's you know, saying it's a no brainer,
- 16:52Speaker 1: number three overall edge rusher from Penn State. Then this
- 16:55Speaker 1: is where it gets exciting, right. They they trade back
- 16:58Speaker 1: into the first round and they go to get Jackson Dart,
- 17:03Speaker 1: a guy who was clearly gonna sit this year behind
- 17:05Speaker 1: Russell Wilson and James Winston. So did Brian Dayball and
- 17:12Speaker 1: Joe Shane just draft a guy they'll never get to develop.
- 17:16Speaker 2: I don't know. Brian might stick around. It is a
- 17:19Speaker 2: question about the GM, especially the whole story about his
- 17:23Speaker 2: kid was putting up Jackson.
- 17:25Speaker 1: It wasn't true, though, That wasn't true. Oh really, Oh
- 17:28Speaker 1: you didn't see Oh no it was. This is crazy.
- 17:31Speaker 1: This is another thing like Jeff Ulbrick, the former interim
- 17:36Speaker 1: coach for the Jets, now the defensive coordinator for the
- 17:39Speaker 1: Atlanta Falcons, left his iPad accessible for his kid. His
- 17:45Speaker 1: kid got the number and pulled the prank and then
- 17:48Speaker 1: admitted it over the weekend and called the Sanders family
- 17:52Speaker 1: to apologize. And let me just say this, I thought
- 17:57Speaker 1: that was a bullshit, low class, dickhead, amateur hour cruel move.
- 18:05Speaker 2: You don't like prank calls.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I love prank calls. I do like I used to
- 18:11Speaker 1: listen to The Jerky Boys and CD on the way
- 18:14Speaker 1: home from driving to from Chicago to Bloomington and back
- 18:19Speaker 1: and Bloomington back to Chicago. Loved it. Huge Jerky Boys
- 18:22Speaker 1: fan obviously love when Stern does his prank calls, all
- 18:26Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. But I think there's a difference
- 18:28Speaker 1: here between dor Sanders, who was clearly as arrogant as
- 18:33Speaker 1: he is, was actually trying to handle the whole draft
- 18:37Speaker 1: situation with dignity and being open about it and standing
- 18:43Speaker 1: in front of the camera and making statements and communicating
- 18:46Speaker 1: with fans. He could have gone into a hole, and
- 18:50Speaker 1: you know, while he's living his life out loud when
- 18:52Speaker 1: he's successful, decided I'm not I need my privacy when
- 18:55Speaker 1: I don't. He didn't do that, and instead these Edia
- 19:00Speaker 1: kids act like fucking dickheads and try to be funny
- 19:05Speaker 1: and take a challenging moment for Shudor Sanders and make
- 19:09Speaker 1: it worse. I just thought it was bullshit. I didn't
- 19:12Speaker 1: even watch it.
- 19:12Speaker 2: You know.
- 19:12Speaker 1: My kid asked me last night at dinner if I
- 19:15Speaker 1: had watched it, because he had told me about the apology.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I'm like, I didn't even watch it, Like, I just
- 19:21Speaker 1: it made me uncomfortable. It felt like it was voyeuristic
- 19:26Speaker 1: and they were dicks. That's how I felt.
- 19:29Speaker 2: As always, humor is subjective. I am a fan of
- 19:32Speaker 2: all prank calls. I an't gonna be on my deathbed
- 19:35Speaker 2: call me up, prank call me anything. I don't care.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I'm just I'm still glad that the youth's still doing
- 19:41Speaker 2: it because it's I thought it was a dying art, right.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I mean in my youth, Chad, the amount of time
- 19:45Speaker 2: we just spent a Friday night when I was in
- 19:47Speaker 2: eighth grade or seventh grade. It's different. These kids are
- 19:50Speaker 2: twenty one. Chad's write their psychopaths. But the fuck up
- 19:56Speaker 2: was they videotaped themselves. Don't. Yeah, that's the issue with
- 19:58Speaker 2: the youth today is they don't. They're too stupid in
- 20:01Speaker 2: that part. But yeah, prank calls. I'm about it. So yeah,
- 20:06Speaker 2: that's what differ.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Listen, I love prank calls.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I know your father, you're thinking of it from like
- 20:14Speaker 2: your this is your kid from I don't. I don't
- 20:16Speaker 2: give a fuck fuck them kids. I don't have kids.
- 20:18Speaker 2: So I am the other way where it's like I
- 20:20Speaker 2: loved it.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Uh, And I can't believe I have to be out
- 20:23Speaker 1: every year there's prank calls defending Shador Sanders. I don't like.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I don't care about his success in the NFL. I
- 20:31Speaker 1: just thought it was a loser move.
- 20:32Speaker 2: That's all I'll give back the Giants, Giants to.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Let me get you. Let me let me say this
- 20:37Speaker 1: about the Giants, the Giants, because I do want to
- 20:41Speaker 1: make sure people have their odds to win the NFC
- 20:46Speaker 1: East right now plus twenty eight hundred, twenty eight to one.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Yeah, And I love their draft, Like I always want
- 20:55Speaker 2: to shit on the Giants just because it's been easy
- 20:57Speaker 2: these last couple of years. But for this division, they
- 21:00Speaker 2: had my favorite draft, and it's it's just a draft
- 21:02Speaker 2: of hope and they have not had that in New
- 21:04Speaker 2: York in a long time. And because no one really
- 21:06Speaker 2: like a lot of guys, I know, especially in the
- 21:08Speaker 2: area I live in, a lot of Giants fans, none
- 21:11Speaker 2: of them really believed in Daniel Jones like they had
- 21:14Speaker 2: high hopes his rookie year. I remember his first game
- 21:17Speaker 2: against Tampa. It was insane how good he was and
- 21:19Speaker 2: end up being probably one of his best games of
- 21:21Speaker 2: his career, which was his first start ever against Tampa.
- 21:24Speaker 2: And he never really gave him hope, where you know,
- 21:27Speaker 2: Dart easily could be a bust. You know, this kid
- 21:29Speaker 2: has a lot of upside, but he has a lot
- 21:31Speaker 2: of game to him where you're just like, this is
- 21:33Speaker 2: not going to translate to the NFL. I mean the
- 21:36Speaker 2: kids in a division with Dak Prescott, a guy who
- 21:39Speaker 2: I know people left it dead. He was second in
- 21:42Speaker 2: MVP voting just two years ago. He's got a Super
- 21:45Speaker 2: Bowl MVP inis division, Jalen Hurts, and then he's got
- 21:47Speaker 2: arguably the best rookie we've ever seen in Jade Daniels.
- 21:51Speaker 2: It's really tough right now for Giants fans, So to me,
- 21:54Speaker 2: this was a win for them. You have a lot
- 21:56Speaker 2: of pieces here that I really like. Carter my number
- 21:58Speaker 2: one player unlike graded for this draft. They got him
- 22:02Speaker 2: as an edge rusher. I hate that, Like he's gonna
- 22:05Speaker 2: be so tough to face in this division. So yeah,
- 22:08Speaker 2: great draft by New York. Would not touch their odds
- 22:11Speaker 2: for them winning this division. I think you're on the
- 22:13Speaker 2: same boat.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Well, so let's go to another wildcard there, which is
- 22:17Speaker 1: the Cowboys who meeted a wide receiver, didn't get one
- 22:21Speaker 1: in the first round, needed a running back, didn't get
- 22:24Speaker 1: one in the first round. They needed some offensive line help.
- 22:29Speaker 1: They reached for a guard at number twelve, the kid
- 22:35Speaker 1: from Alabama. And you know, clearly Jerry is trying to
- 22:39Speaker 1: recapture that magic of drafting Zach Martin. But the Cowboys,
- 22:46Speaker 1: who are what is that three to one? Basically? I
- 22:51Speaker 1: think I'm seeing yeah, seven to one, you're seeing seven
- 22:54Speaker 1: to one.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Yeah, seven to one for the division, I said something different.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, you're right, seven to one. Uh. They're in
- 23:05Speaker 1: an interesting spot because Dak will be back, but they
- 23:09Speaker 1: still don't have a running back.
- 23:13Speaker 2: We'll see. I love Blue, a kid they drafted at Texas.
- 23:16Speaker 2: You know, it's gonna be interesting what type of back
- 23:19Speaker 2: he is. He's gonna be CJ two K, this incredible
- 23:21Speaker 2: fast scatback, or is he just gonna be a random
- 23:23Speaker 2: third down guy they bring in because he's too small.
- 23:26Speaker 2: He just doesn't know how to block too like well,
- 23:28Speaker 2: like that that could be him. But yeah, like you said,
- 23:30Speaker 2: they they could have taken one higher up. They waited
- 23:32Speaker 2: to what pick nine something like that to take this kid. Yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 2: I'm with you on that. I I liked how they
- 23:40Speaker 2: started though. I liked that they went offensive guard. They're
- 23:43Speaker 2: attacking the offensive line, which they need to do now.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Like you said, they've lost all these Hall of Famers
- 23:47Speaker 2: across this last two years. It's it's a position of need.
- 23:51Speaker 2: So I know it sucks, right, people are hoping they're
- 23:53Speaker 2: gonna take a receiver there, which they just didn't grade out.
- 23:56Speaker 2: The receiver is high enough to take them there, and
- 23:58Speaker 2: that's that's how it is. When you're looking, you're a
- 23:59Speaker 2: big board in. You know, they went after the edge
- 24:01Speaker 2: in the next round, so that's good. But yeah, what's
- 24:04Speaker 2: is the team we're going to dive into a lot
- 24:06Speaker 2: this summer. I just love the value on this Cowboys team.
- 24:09Speaker 1: You know, Yeah, you've bet the Cowboys on this spot.
- 24:12Speaker 2: So yeah, so yeah, they're they're they're right now for me,
- 24:15Speaker 2: the to me, the best value in this division. They
- 24:17Speaker 2: were eight to one Mechad had a live show what
- 24:20Speaker 2: was that like a month ago? Now they're down to
- 24:22Speaker 2: seven to one and most books are six to one
- 24:24Speaker 2: at some book. So it's just a team that pros
- 24:27Speaker 2: are going to bet. In the public, they'll just stay
- 24:29Speaker 2: away because they had a year from hell last year.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I think that's the only thing you said at the
- 24:33Speaker 1: live show in the entire show was bet the Cowboys
- 24:37Speaker 1: to win the NFC East that how did you feel
- 24:40Speaker 1: about the Eagles? Let's talk about the Eagles. Yeah, everyone
- 24:44Speaker 1: loves what how we did? Everyone thinks hiw he's a genius,
- 24:48Speaker 1: like getting another player that he feels like they need
- 24:52Speaker 1: at linebacker. Did you have thoughts?
- 24:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Eagles minus one sixty right now, bet thrus is
- 24:58Speaker 2: five to win this division and coming in this draft,
- 25:02Speaker 2: I honestly it's I think most Eagles fans at this
- 25:05Speaker 2: point of we think we have the greatest football team ever.
- 25:07Speaker 2: There are no weaknesses. What could we do to make
- 25:09Speaker 2: this team better? So going in, I was just hoping
- 25:12Speaker 2: to go tight end or some type of d end.
- 25:13Speaker 2: And yeah, Jahad Campbell the kid they took in the
- 25:16Speaker 2: first round, stud linebacker from Alabama. Typical dumb fan, I am.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I know very little about this kid. What the hell
- 25:25Speaker 2: do I am? I watching tape on Alabama's linebackers. No,
- 25:28Speaker 2: so I've dove in on him, love him. Find out
- 25:31Speaker 2: he's from timber Creek, like literally twenty minutes away from
- 25:34Speaker 2: me here in South Jersey. So he's a local kid.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Stud doesn't need necessary play linebacker, can be an edge player.
- 25:42Speaker 2: So you know how he does it? Once again, how
- 25:44Speaker 2: does this guy fall right into his lap? Trades up,
- 25:46Speaker 2: which I want to bet, which I did not deserve
- 25:49Speaker 2: to win. I'd made a bet that Eagles would trade
- 25:51Speaker 2: up because I had info that how he was going
- 25:53Speaker 2: to try to move up, and apparently he was getting
- 25:55Speaker 2: rejected for an hour by every team trying to trade up,
- 25:58Speaker 2: and he saved my ass trade up one spot for
- 26:00Speaker 2: me to win that bet fifth round pick, and yeah,
- 26:04Speaker 2: you know it's it's a team that how he clearly
- 26:08Speaker 2: loves our offense. He took I think it was five
- 26:10Speaker 2: straight defensive players in this draft, so there's certain things
- 26:15Speaker 2: I like about teams doing that, and like, I think
- 26:18Speaker 2: our offense has zero weaknesses attack the defense, and that's
- 26:22Speaker 2: exactly what he did. So once again, how most people
- 26:25Speaker 2: are giving him the classic A A plus, I'll give
- 26:28Speaker 2: him a bat plus.
- 26:30Speaker 1: He did say something interesting about Dallas Goddard. He's part
- 26:33Speaker 1: of the team for now. What is that about?
- 26:37Speaker 2: I think he stays. I think they were going to
- 26:40Speaker 2: try to move him, but the tight ends they wanted
- 26:42Speaker 2: got taken, and they basically because this was a really
- 26:44Speaker 2: good tight end class and it just didn't work out
- 26:47Speaker 2: with the board. And he's got a one year deal.
- 26:50Speaker 2: How he doesn't really like playing playing guys on the
- 26:52Speaker 2: team on a one year deal, So that's why I
- 26:53Speaker 2: wouldn't be shocked if they don't move him, I would
- 26:55Speaker 2: not like to me. I know he does get injured
- 26:58Speaker 2: when he's out there, tests so much trust to him,
- 27:01Speaker 2: especially on third downs, which is like we talk all
- 27:03Speaker 2: the time. If you have the right guy on third downs,
- 27:06Speaker 2: it changes the whole dynamic of your team. So I
- 27:09Speaker 2: hope they keep them Chad because they didn't address the position,
- 27:11Speaker 2: but still would not be shocked ause how he just
- 27:13Speaker 2: has a weird thing about keeping guys on one year deals.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Last team in the NFC East Washington two to one,
- 27:20Speaker 1: maybe two twenty to win the division. I don't have
- 27:26Speaker 1: a strong opinion about their drafts. I don't know that
- 27:27Speaker 1: they did anything to immediately vault them any higher, any
- 27:32Speaker 1: closer to the Eagles, and they didn't lose ground to
- 27:35Speaker 1: the Cowboys. The key for them is they got Jaden Daniels,
- 27:39Speaker 1: and now what can they do to improve their defense.
- 27:43Speaker 1: I don't know that they did anything spectacular to help themselves.
- 27:46Speaker 2: No, and there are Yearly so another team I would
- 27:48Speaker 2: not touch. Their odds is they should be closer to
- 27:52Speaker 2: plus three fifty plus four hundred for this division than
- 27:54Speaker 2: they are. They're just they're just beloved by everybody. People
- 27:57Speaker 2: are making Jamie Daniels the top five quarterback already in
- 28:00Speaker 2: this league, a guy who's played one year. So that's
- 28:03Speaker 2: just stay away from them. And you know, this draft,
- 28:05Speaker 2: they had five picks. What are you going to do?
- 28:08Speaker 2: Not much I am going to use you know, go great,
- 28:11Speaker 2: got offensive tackle at pick twenty nine. Love it like
- 28:14Speaker 2: that's what they should be doing. Yeah, it's ten year
- 28:17Speaker 2: plan now with the quarterback that they have, you were
- 28:20Speaker 2: thinking ten years now every draft you should be thinking
- 28:22Speaker 2: ten years. So yeah, I like this Washington team, but
- 28:26Speaker 2: nothing no value here for me, divisionally imbenting on them.
- 28:29Speaker 1: One of the great anecdotes from the draft was Cliff
- 28:33Speaker 1: Kingsbury leaving a note for the Washington GM on his
- 28:38Speaker 1: door that just says, stop by, please take Oregon left
- 28:42Speaker 1: tackle Josh Connolly. Who's the guy they took from Oregon?
- 28:46Speaker 1: So good for them. Let's talk about the NFC West
- 28:53Speaker 1: forty nine ers made a very important pick in the
- 28:56Speaker 1: seventh round of the draft, which to me says everything
- 29:00Speaker 1: we need to know about how serious they are when
- 29:05Speaker 1: it comes to keeping Brock Purty. Are you ready?
- 29:08Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 29:09Speaker 1: They chose Curtis Rourke, Indiana University starting quarterback in the
- 29:17Speaker 1: seventh round. To me, that clearly says we're not messing
- 29:22Speaker 1: around with Brock Purty. We're going to recreate the seventh
- 29:26Speaker 1: round magic and they're gonna bring Curtis Rourke into the
- 29:30Speaker 1: starting lineup replacing Brock Party when he wants his sixty
- 29:36Speaker 1: five to seventy million a year, they're gonna be like, eh,
- 29:40Speaker 1: we got the winner who took the Indiana Hoosiers to
- 29:44Speaker 1: the college football playoff.
- 29:46Speaker 2: As just say, the only reason you draft this kid
- 29:48Speaker 2: is he's a winner and he's smart. That's what That's
- 29:51Speaker 2: what they're saying themselves. So yeah, the their draft Chad
- 29:54Speaker 2: just what I talked about earlier. It's they went in
- 29:57Speaker 2: with a plan. They attacked the weakness of their team.
- 30:00Speaker 2: What is the weakness right now the forty nine ers,
- 30:02Speaker 2: it's that defense. They have a whole total overhaul of
- 30:04Speaker 2: this defense. So yeah, they started with an edge, a
- 30:07Speaker 2: D tackle, D lineman dB D lineman Like that just
- 30:11Speaker 2: shows you exactly what they're playing. Was there just to
- 30:13Speaker 2: attack that D line and attack what they think is
- 30:17Speaker 2: weakness ran on their team is that defense? So yeah,
- 30:19Speaker 2: not much to say of the forty nine ers. Yere
- 30:21Speaker 2: plus one forty five don't like that value at all.
- 30:23Speaker 2: I think they're overrunder win totals like ten and a half. Yeah,
- 30:26Speaker 2: I can't do it. So yeah, interesting team coming into
- 30:29Speaker 2: this season. Yeah.
- 30:30Speaker 1: They went Michael Williams, is it mkal or Michael Edge
- 30:36Speaker 1: rusher from Georgia. Then they went defensive tackle, then they
- 30:40Speaker 1: went linebacker, then they went cornerback, defensive tackle. They had
- 30:47Speaker 1: a wide receiver, a running back, like a safety. They
- 30:53Speaker 1: basically just rafted all defenders other than Curtis Rourke future
- 30:57Speaker 1: starting quarterback. The Rams in a while plus win sixty
- 31:02Speaker 1: five to win the division. There was a lot of people.
- 31:05Speaker 1: There were a lot of people who were like, will
- 31:07Speaker 1: the Rams go after Shadoor Sanders? It felt like, you know,
- 31:13Speaker 1: they need that pick, they need a guy who can
- 31:18Speaker 1: back up Matthew Stafford. Were you surprised at the Rams draft?
- 31:24Speaker 1: Kind of a quiet draft, like they weren't aggressive, they
- 31:27Speaker 1: traded out. Were you surprised at the Rams draft?
- 31:31Speaker 2: No, because all the whisperers you hear is that they
- 31:34Speaker 2: actually like Dart and that if you look they traded
- 31:37Speaker 2: out right after you got taken and they trade out
- 31:40Speaker 2: for a ton, like that's a great trade by getting
- 31:43Speaker 2: out of there getting a first round pick, for next year,
- 31:45Speaker 2: which we talked about before the draft. I think next
- 31:48Speaker 2: year is a really good draft class. So if that's
- 31:50Speaker 2: the route that they want to go with McVeigh, they're
- 31:52Speaker 2: going to have opportunity. But yeah, this whole draft that
- 31:55Speaker 2: kept trading down, and yeah, this is a team that
- 31:59Speaker 2: you know, one of those front offices I just trust
- 32:02Speaker 2: and everything they do. Like they hadn't had a first
- 32:04Speaker 2: round pick for years and they finally did get one.
- 32:07Speaker 2: You know, they had the best defensive player of the
- 32:09Speaker 2: season last year and first so yeah, this is a
- 32:12Speaker 2: team that you know, I wouldn't bet them at this
- 32:14Speaker 2: point plus one sixty five. They were plus two hundred.
- 32:17Speaker 2: It's come down. I'll wait. This is a slow starting team.
- 32:21Speaker 2: We have the history on it. Every year they start
- 32:24Speaker 2: slow and then they figure out if this season is
- 32:25Speaker 2: a long So yeah, we just have to trust this team. Right,
- 32:30Speaker 2: it's McVeigh in this front office. I assume they nailed
- 32:32Speaker 2: the draft, but if we look at these pieces on
- 32:34Speaker 2: the draft board, I got no.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Clue, right, I mean, it's a lot of sort of
- 32:39Speaker 1: It wasn't shiny, spectacular, explosive players. It was a lot
- 32:43Speaker 1: of continuing to build depth for the Rams. In all
- 32:48Speaker 1: the places where they like to build death. They're building
- 32:51Speaker 1: depth at tight end, they're building depth across the defensive line,
- 32:55Speaker 1: and look, they've been brilliant at it. We saw it
- 32:57Speaker 1: last year. If they think, all right, we can get
- 32:59Speaker 1: through one year with Matthew Stafford and then next year,
- 33:03Speaker 1: if we've got two picks, we can package trade up
- 33:05Speaker 1: get one of the top quarterbacks coming out of the
- 33:08Speaker 1: draft that could put him in a really good position.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Totally agree with you. It's interesting to me. It makes
- 33:13Speaker 1: me feel better about the Giants loving Jackson Dart that
- 33:17Speaker 1: Sean McVay like Jackson Dart so much. Arizona Cardinals plus
- 33:23Speaker 1: five point fifty to win the division. We talk about
- 33:27Speaker 1: guys dropping, We talked about trade or we talked about
- 33:30Speaker 1: Mike green Will Johnson, who they took in the second round,
- 33:34Speaker 1: the cornerback from Michigan. He dropped because of an injury.
- 33:38Speaker 1: But people are loving this pick, talking about him having
- 33:44Speaker 1: all pro potential that you don't often get in the
- 33:47Speaker 1: second round. Are we more enthusiastic about the Arizona Cardinals
- 33:52Speaker 1: right now?
- 33:53Speaker 2: Yeah? This mean is the best Valus division. If you're
- 33:55Speaker 2: looking just divisional odds, well, you know, you can get
- 33:57Speaker 2: a plus five to fifty plus six on you shop around.
- 34:01Speaker 2: To me, this draft, they needed to attack the defense.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Just say a couple of teams you've already talked about,
- 34:07Speaker 2: and they did, like first round pick de tackled then
- 34:10Speaker 2: like you said, will Johnson cornerback. Then they went edge,
- 34:12Speaker 2: and then they went and then they went d back
- 34:14Speaker 2: Like this is how they should have drafted, right. That's
- 34:17Speaker 2: the weakness of this team is their defense, for sure.
- 34:19Speaker 2: So confidence in Kyler Murray every year it gets less
- 34:23Speaker 2: and less. Chad, I think you're in the same boat.
- 34:25Speaker 2: So this is a team where every year it feels
- 34:27Speaker 2: like it's a make or break career year for Kyler.
- 34:30Speaker 2: We all know he's got the talent, he's got the tools,
- 34:32Speaker 2: he's got the weapons offensively, no more excuses were over.
- 34:37Speaker 2: I think everyone's kind of over. I think Arizona is
- 34:39Speaker 2: about a year or two away from being over it
- 34:41Speaker 2: as well. So I love what they did attack the defense.
- 34:45Speaker 2: You got a defensive minded head coach. He should not
- 34:47Speaker 2: have scout these players. So uh yeah, to me, best
- 34:50Speaker 2: value right now Arizona in this division.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Divisional odds Seattle six to one. They got Sam Darnold
- 34:55Speaker 1: they drafted Jalen Milroe. It can be interesting for a
- 34:58Speaker 1: couple of packages a game. They really focused on the
- 35:01Speaker 1: offensive line. That was the issue last year. We saw it.
- 35:04Speaker 1: They couldn't stop anybody from getting to Gino last year
- 35:10Speaker 1: and that ultimately became the achilles heel for the team.
- 35:13Speaker 1: So the first thing they do they draft this guy,
- 35:15Speaker 1: grays Abel, who's the guard from North Dakota State who
- 35:19Speaker 1: Mel went crazy over. And it was a sort of
- 35:25Speaker 1: a non spectacular, non high profile names yet players who
- 35:33Speaker 1: if you look at draft experts, everybody loved what Seattle did.
- 35:38Speaker 1: They loved they drafted high quality, high potential for need
- 35:43Speaker 1: on their team.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Yeah. I love this kid, you know. I've saw a
- 35:48Speaker 2: couple of interviews with him. His personality as well, It's like,
- 35:50Speaker 2: this is the exact kind of guy one on my
- 35:52Speaker 2: offensive line. He's got that personality for it and just
- 35:55Speaker 2: an absolute dog. But that's not going to fix their
- 35:58Speaker 2: issues the companies coming season. That the more I look
- 36:03Speaker 2: at their team, I'm excited to see what their defense
- 36:04Speaker 2: is going to be like in year two. But their
- 36:07Speaker 2: offensive line is terrible, and that's Sam Darnold's achille heels pressure,
- 36:12Speaker 2: especially up the middle so great that they took a guard,
- 36:15Speaker 2: a guy who think is gonna be a good player,
- 36:17Speaker 2: But they have a lot of holes to fix, and
- 36:20Speaker 2: I just don't think they did enough in this draft
- 36:21Speaker 2: to fix those holes on that offensive line.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Let's do the NFC South because we love Baker and
- 36:29Speaker 1: last year, at this time, I think we were thinking
- 36:31Speaker 1: the Bucks might be the worst team in the division.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Now they are the odds on favorite to win again.
- 36:41Speaker 1: They chose a Mecca a Buka, the wide receiver from
- 36:45Speaker 1: Ohio State, which could just tell you something about how
- 36:48Speaker 1: they feel about Chris Godwin. They also chose a guy
- 36:51Speaker 1: that we talked about last week on the podcast with
- 36:57Speaker 1: Thorne Eystrom, who loved Benji Morrison, the cornerback from Notre Dame.
- 37:02Speaker 1: They drafted him in the second round. And you know,
- 37:06Speaker 1: if you want to talk, maybe I'm getting soft. You
- 37:09Speaker 1: loved the prank call of Obrook's kid to Shador Sanders.
- 37:16Speaker 1: I love the complete, total, genuine, authentic emotional response that
- 37:27Speaker 1: Ben Morrison had when he was got when he got
- 37:30Speaker 1: the call from the Bucks and was just full water works,
- 37:35Speaker 1: full tears, joy, relief, pride, happiness with his family. That
- 37:44Speaker 1: to me was like those homecoming videos that you get
- 37:49Speaker 1: on TikTok where the soldiers come home and they're hugging
- 37:51Speaker 1: their kids and the kids see them and they freak out.
- 37:54Speaker 1: That to me, what that was. I could just watch
- 37:56Speaker 1: that all day. Go Bucks, Go Ben Morrison.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:00Speaker 2: And I would say just from the top, pretty interesting
- 38:02Speaker 2: that they open at plus one ten for this division,
- 38:04Speaker 2: like the fact that the books are giving them so
- 38:07Speaker 2: much more weight over Penix in Atlanta, which I think
- 38:11Speaker 2: is going to be the really Joe public team. So
- 38:14Speaker 2: that shows that early smart money's got to be Tampa, right,
- 38:16Speaker 2: That's that's professional money here making that number what it is.
- 38:20Speaker 2: And looking at this draft, like you just said, they
- 38:24Speaker 2: had to attack that secondary. That was their biggest weakness
- 38:27Speaker 2: last year. I know they had horrible amount of injuries
- 38:29Speaker 2: and at the end of the day though, they just
- 38:31Speaker 2: had a talent weakness at that position. Even their starters
- 38:34Speaker 2: before they got hurt weren't great. So the fact that
- 38:37Speaker 2: you know they're going after their cornerbacks, they're going after
- 38:39Speaker 2: d line and like you said, start out the top
- 38:41Speaker 2: with a wide receiver because you know Godwin is coming
- 38:44Speaker 2: off a major injury. Love it all, Chad and it's
- 38:46Speaker 2: just Tampa. Like we keep saying, it's incredible the organization
- 38:51Speaker 2: they are in this division where you know, as much
- 38:55Speaker 2: as we love shitting on this division, this is a
- 38:57Speaker 2: Tampa team that is an expansion team has won multiple
- 39:02Speaker 2: Super Bowls, and it's it's pretty incredible at this point
- 39:06Speaker 2: that Tom Brady, now, what is a year three since
- 39:09Speaker 2: he's been gone, and they've won the division two years
- 39:11Speaker 2: in a row since he's left, so really really impressive,
- 39:14Speaker 2: And like Chad's basically saying, We're just gonna trust this
- 39:16Speaker 2: front office. They just keep making the right draft picks
- 39:19Speaker 2: and the right moves.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Uh, speaking of Atlanta not understanding their moves for the
- 39:27Speaker 1: second year in a row. Yeah, okay, Like they got
- 39:32Speaker 1: their their their edge rusher in the middle of the
- 39:35Speaker 1: first round, and then they trade a first round uder
- 39:38Speaker 1: the Rams, who basically fleeced them to get back into
- 39:42Speaker 1: the first round and draft another EDG rusher who wasn't
- 39:44Speaker 1: even like the highest rated ED rusher left on the board.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's bizarre, especially where I love the Walker pick.
- 39:52Speaker 2: It felt like that was a oh great, you guys
- 39:54Speaker 2: are attacking the edge, you need the ends. Great, Now
- 39:57Speaker 2: I'll take another one in the second round. Maybe No,
- 40:00Speaker 2: they traded back and they take another DN, which is good.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I liked the idea for their team, but like you said,
- 40:05Speaker 2: it's really stupid value, especially where they have an unproven
- 40:08Speaker 2: quarterback in Penix being their starting next tray. I mean,
- 40:10Speaker 2: they could shit the bed. This could be a top ten,
- 40:13Speaker 2: top fifteen pick. So who bizarre move rams like we said,
- 40:19Speaker 2: just the rich getting richer. Smart move by them. And yeah, overall,
- 40:24Speaker 2: this is a team that need to attack the defense.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Like we talked about, they used their first four picks
- 40:30Speaker 2: attacking the defense. Their last pick, picked to eighteen, took
- 40:33Speaker 2: an old lineman. So yeah, this, like you said, plus
- 40:36Speaker 2: two to thirty plus two forty for them to win
- 40:38Speaker 2: this division. I'm not touching Atlanta. I just I don't
- 40:41Speaker 2: really trust this team, and I don't know how I
- 40:43Speaker 2: feel yet about Penix.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Is it truly in the year to say, all right,
- 40:47Speaker 1: we're going in on the Panthers at plus four to
- 40:50Speaker 1: thirty five because they basically they addressed every need. They
- 40:53Speaker 1: needed a receiver for Bryce Young, they needed edge rushers,
- 40:58Speaker 1: they did that. They needed help like along the defensive
- 41:03Speaker 1: line generally, they did that like they were great. They
- 41:07Speaker 1: were totally great. Love the Panthers if we believed in
- 41:11Speaker 1: them at the end of the year. We have to
- 41:13Speaker 1: believe in them. At plus four thirty five.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Yeah, like you said, like, this is the team we're
- 41:17Speaker 2: gonna love. And you know the fact that they were
- 41:21Speaker 2: plus five hundred, got bet down at plus four to fifty.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Now they're down to plus four to twenty five. It
- 41:26Speaker 2: makes sense. I think most professionals are like us. But
- 41:28Speaker 2: they're just gonna look at the team that they have
- 41:30Speaker 2: so much potential. And like said, this draft, they attacked
- 41:34Speaker 2: all the needs we talked about, right, They needed edge help,
- 41:37Speaker 2: some dns. They wouldn't got two of them. The first
- 41:40Speaker 2: round pick is gonna be interesting. Chad like this kid McMillan,
- 41:43Speaker 2: this fire receiver, like a couple of really bad clips
- 41:45Speaker 2: of them out there, him talking about he doesn't love football,
- 41:48Speaker 2: doesn't like like doing the extra work right, reading through
- 41:51Speaker 2: the playbook. I think what he came out and said afterwards,
- 41:54Speaker 2: he was just young and stupid and he was just
- 41:56Speaker 2: talking out of his ass. And I hope that's true,
- 41:59Speaker 2: because shed all the time. It's easy to act like
- 42:02Speaker 2: you love this the great ones though they love it
- 42:05Speaker 2: and they put in the work and that's what you're
- 42:07Speaker 2: going to need, especially if you're going to be the
- 42:09Speaker 2: number one receiver of this team. So we're on the
- 42:11Speaker 2: same page. It's never to worry for us to show
- 42:14Speaker 2: our love on this Panthers and the fact that it's
- 42:16Speaker 2: still above plus four hundred. I love that value right
- 42:19Speaker 2: on this Panthers team to win this division.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Look at Nick Saban, who I love had great comments
- 42:24Speaker 1: about this happens in every field. Just because you have
- 42:27Speaker 1: innate talent as a football player doesn't mean it translates
- 42:32Speaker 1: when you get to the higher levels. In the same
- 42:34Speaker 1: way you might have innate talent as a doctor. Doesn't
- 42:37Speaker 1: mean it's going to translate if you don't commit to
- 42:39Speaker 1: the process, if you don't do the work, if you're
- 42:41Speaker 1: not passionate about it, if you don't want to study
- 42:43Speaker 1: on a regular basis. You can be the greatest doctor,
- 42:45Speaker 1: the greatest football player in the world. There's very few
- 42:48Speaker 1: people who can get away with not doing all the
- 42:50Speaker 1: stuff that it takes to elevate to the next level.
- 42:54Speaker 3: And it can't be an outcome.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Orient the guy.
- 42:56Speaker 3: If you're going to be productive, because you're going to
- 42:58Speaker 3: focus on what you need to do to get it right.
- 43:01Speaker 3: And I think a lot of times when guys have talent,
- 43:04Speaker 3: you just assume that they have that. Everybody's smart that
- 43:07Speaker 3: goes to medical school, but everybody doesn't make it through,
- 43:10Speaker 3: and some that make it through don't make good doctors.
- 43:12Speaker 3: So it's the same kind of thing with athletes. When
- 43:15Speaker 3: people are a process oriented and then they have a
- 43:17Speaker 3: discipline to execute it, that's when you get a talented
- 43:21Speaker 3: player who becomes a great player.
- 43:23Speaker 2: But like I always love the story about young guys
- 43:25Speaker 2: who come in they see the veteran quarterback and how
- 43:28Speaker 2: eye open is and you know, Mahomes tells a great
- 43:30Speaker 2: story by Alex Smith where he was just like I
- 43:32Speaker 2: knew how hard I had to work, but seeing the
- 43:34Speaker 2: fact that he was always the first one in, last
- 43:36Speaker 2: one out, like really, it does instill into you. It's
- 43:38Speaker 2: like you want to be the best. The guy who
- 43:41Speaker 2: was already much better than you was putting in that
- 43:43Speaker 2: extra hours. Like we talk the time, the Kobe story,
- 43:46Speaker 2: Kobe going to the gym with the USA basketball team
- 43:48Speaker 2: at four or five in the morning. Lebron James couldn't
- 43:50Speaker 2: believe it. He goes, wait, you're practicing before our practice
- 43:53Speaker 2: and lifting, and that's when he realized, like that's what
- 43:56Speaker 2: it takes to be great. So yeah, it's it's really
- 43:59Speaker 2: interesting what did in this draft this Panthers team.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Saints went with Calvin Banks first pick, tackle from Texas.
- 44:06Speaker 1: We had a long conversation about them in the podcast
- 44:10Speaker 1: last week where his position was going to be. He
- 44:12Speaker 1: was starting to get all this love. People thought he
- 44:15Speaker 1: might go before Will Campbell, who went forth over all
- 44:17Speaker 1: the Patriots. He did not. But what got interesting was
- 44:21Speaker 1: everyone thought Shed Sanders to the Saints was the exact
- 44:24Speaker 1: right spot, and then in the second round they draft that,
- 44:27Speaker 1: you know, eighty five year old quarterback from Louisville. So
- 44:30Speaker 1: clearly sand Sanders was never in there in the Saints
- 44:35Speaker 1: draft plans. There's seven to one right now to win
- 44:37Speaker 1: the NFC South.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I was reading about that kid, Tyler. I think
- 44:41Speaker 2: he's like twenty sixth a quarterback they took from Louisville.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Uhrathley my age seriously though, very bizarre, very bizarre pick.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Like I had said before, I know that he has
- 44:52Speaker 2: a ton of talent. It's someone who can never stay
- 44:55Speaker 2: healthy and like you know, has never proven to be
- 44:59Speaker 2: what he just got to draft that. So, yeah, the Saints,
- 45:03Speaker 2: I thought they had the worst draft in this division.
- 45:05Speaker 2: But I think it's also just, you know, part of
- 45:08Speaker 2: the deal with this Saints team. It's just they're going
- 45:10Speaker 2: to be doubted every step just because they've just been
- 45:13Speaker 2: a train wreck here this last five six years. So yeah,
- 45:16Speaker 2: don't much have to say about the Saints team. Would
- 45:18Speaker 2: not touch them at plus eight hundred plus seven to fifty.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Ton't win this division.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Best division in football, NFC North Detroit Lions best record
- 45:30Speaker 1: in football last year, number one seed, did it with
- 45:35Speaker 1: masking tape on their defensive side, on the defensive side
- 45:38Speaker 1: of the ball. So what do they do? First pick?
- 45:41Speaker 1: They draft a guy from Ohio State defensive tackle. Great move,
- 45:47Speaker 1: but then they go offensive line, wide receiver, offensive line.
- 45:52Speaker 1: They don't go back to the defensive line in an
- 45:55Speaker 1: edge rusher until the sixth round of the draft. They're
- 46:00Speaker 1: clearly smarter than we are. They are the odds on
- 46:04Speaker 1: favorite to win the division plus one thirty. At that
- 46:08Speaker 1: three sixty five, I'm not betting the Lions to win
- 46:11Speaker 1: this division.
- 46:12Speaker 2: No, you know, we might overrate it a little bit
- 46:17Speaker 2: on this show how important coaching is, but there is
- 46:19Speaker 2: some truth to our madness and the fact they lost
- 46:23Speaker 2: such important key figures to this team from the defensive
- 46:26Speaker 2: side and the offensive side of the coaching position, we
- 46:29Speaker 2: have to hold it accountable. And you know, we talked
- 46:31Speaker 2: about this division. The worst odds are now are Chad's
- 46:34Speaker 2: Bears a plus four to fifty, which is how crazy.
- 46:36Speaker 2: That's how close this division is right.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Now, and we're betting the Bears.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Like you said, though, it's the best division of football.
- 46:43Speaker 2: So I want to take a position on Detroit. I
- 46:46Speaker 2: don't think this is the spot to take it, especially divisionally.
- 46:49Speaker 2: It's not a good number. And like you said, I'm
- 46:51Speaker 2: going to trust the front office. I like that they
- 46:54Speaker 2: attacked just the D line. The D line first pick. Great,
- 46:58Speaker 2: Now give me a couple offense alignment, right, keep building
- 47:01Speaker 2: on what that makes you guys so great? Which is
- 47:03Speaker 2: that offensive line. That's that's what it's all about. And
- 47:07Speaker 2: you know the whispers we hear about them moving on
- 47:09Speaker 2: from the wide receiver Williams, we don't know how true
- 47:12Speaker 2: it is, but they did take a wide receiver at
- 47:14Speaker 2: pick seventy. That's a big deal. So ye, you're right, like,
- 47:17Speaker 2: this is not a team we're gonna take a plus
- 47:18Speaker 2: one thirty. But I'm excited to see what they're gonna
- 47:22Speaker 2: be like without Ben Johnson. Like this is just a
- 47:24Speaker 2: team that oozes a crazy amount of talent. Can they
- 47:27Speaker 2: stop being cursed? Put it all together? Remains to be seen.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Packers plus two seventy five. Jordan Love coming back for
- 47:34Speaker 1: a full season healthy, and I do like what they
- 47:38Speaker 1: did here. After years of neglecting the receiver room generally
- 47:45Speaker 1: and trying to patch together with with lower rated players,
- 47:48Speaker 1: they went out and got a burner in Matthew Golden,
- 47:52Speaker 1: who had dropped a little bit. A lot of people
- 47:54Speaker 1: thought he might be the number one receiving prospect, and
- 47:59Speaker 1: they got him at twenty three. That's a weapon for
- 48:03Speaker 1: Jordan Love. I love this play. Still not the team
- 48:07Speaker 1: I would bet to win the division.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't hate the number. I wish it was
- 48:13Speaker 2: plus three hundred plus two seventy five. It feels like
- 48:15Speaker 2: we missed the best of the number for this division.
- 48:18Speaker 2: You know, love the golden pick. Green Bay fans bitching
- 48:22Speaker 2: and moaning about them never taking talented receivers. You guys
- 48:26Speaker 2: drafted DeVante Adams. What the fuck you're talking about, Jordan Nelson?
- 48:30Speaker 2: You drafted him as well. It's like you guys have
- 48:32Speaker 2: had some great draft picks. Your front office is just
- 48:34Speaker 2: smart taking them in the second third round. And you know,
- 48:38Speaker 2: Golden here, you definitely slipped right. This is the guy
- 48:41Speaker 2: that lot of yeah for sure to be a top ten,
- 48:44Speaker 2: top fifteen pick and maybe the first receiver off the board. Yes,
- 48:48Speaker 2: Speedster excited to see what the floor does with him
- 48:50Speaker 2: in different packages. You know, this is a team that
- 48:54Speaker 2: went receiver, offensive tackle, receiver. I love that start right,
- 48:58Speaker 2: they're basically saying that and love. Okay, We'll we failed
- 49:02Speaker 2: you a little bit here. We've not gotten you the
- 49:03Speaker 2: weapons wide receiverally that we should have in these last
- 49:06Speaker 2: two three years. We're going to attack that position in
- 49:09Speaker 2: this draft. And you know, obviously they need Golden to
- 49:12Speaker 2: hit right. In this division, the difference between the number
- 49:15Speaker 2: one team and the last place team is so small.
- 49:18Speaker 2: It's gonna be guys like this, this type of pick
- 49:21Speaker 2: that could change his division. So if Golden hits, he's
- 49:24Speaker 2: a Tyreek Hill type, you know, a sweetzer that can
- 49:26Speaker 2: stretch the field and open up the run game for
- 49:29Speaker 2: Josh Jacobs. It's our home run of a draft pick.
- 49:32Speaker 2: So yeah, I get why Green Bays fans are so excited.
- 49:34Speaker 2: How can you not be taking this kid with a
- 49:37Speaker 2: great name as well, Golden, I love it at pick twenty.
- 49:39Speaker 1: Three Minnesota Vikings plus four hundred Minnesota Vikings. Look, it's
- 49:47Speaker 1: basically JJ McCarthy was their number one pick because he'll
- 49:52Speaker 1: be starting this year. So they did the right things.
- 49:56Speaker 1: They drafted a guard from Ohio State, Donovan Jackson, to
- 50:00Speaker 1: help protect him. They drafted a wide receiver from Maryland
- 50:04Speaker 1: Future School for my younger son, Owen Millman, who has
- 50:08Speaker 1: decided to commit to Maryland. Uh, we're super excited about that.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Go Turps. Yeah, they did the things they need to
- 50:15Speaker 1: do in the first couple of rounds to give JJ
- 50:17Speaker 1: McCarthy a little bit more support. You're always gonna trust
- 50:21Speaker 1: their coach. I like the value at Minnesota at this number.
- 50:26Speaker 1: Don't like it as much as the Bears though, No.
- 50:28Speaker 2: I wouldn't touch it. It's too much unknown with j J.
- 50:31Speaker 2: I'm excited. Obviously they got high hopes. This kid's a winner,
- 50:34Speaker 2: but like we talked about him coming out, just never
- 50:36Speaker 2: had enough reps, never never had enough reps in college
- 50:40Speaker 2: of passing the ball, really having the offense on his back,
- 50:43Speaker 2: so a ton of unknown you know, Koc, How can
- 50:46Speaker 2: you not trust this guy? He made Sam Darnold and
- 50:48Speaker 2: do one hundred million dollar quarterback and do a playoff
- 50:51Speaker 2: caliber quarterback. So yeah, to me, worst drafting division just
- 50:54Speaker 2: because they had no fucking picks. Man, They've had to
- 50:57Speaker 2: pick twenty four take a guard. Great, Now they don't
- 51:00Speaker 2: pick till one oh two like that. That's really tough.
- 51:03Speaker 2: So yeah, they mortgage the future. They got the quarterback
- 51:07Speaker 2: from last year. Like you said, it's they're not They
- 51:10Speaker 2: don't care if they win this year. This is all
- 51:11Speaker 2: about setting up for the next two to three to
- 51:13Speaker 2: four years. So that from my standpoint, I'm with you.
- 51:16Speaker 2: I liked they went guard receiver. Nice way to start it.
- 51:19Speaker 2: But yeah, this this to me was enoughing draft from Minnesota.
- 51:22Speaker 1: Chicago Bears plus four point fifty. There it is there,
- 51:26Speaker 1: it is there. It look they sucker us every year.
- 51:30Speaker 1: They truly do. They do, they really do. And so
- 51:33Speaker 1: you know, credit to Ryan Poles and the front office
- 51:38Speaker 1: who win the off season so consistently that we cannot
- 51:42Speaker 1: help ourselves but pull the trigger.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Well, we were negative last year, Smartley, We were all
- 51:47Speaker 2: over the tread divisionally, and we were on the Bears
- 51:48Speaker 2: under win.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Total, so that's true.
- 51:50Speaker 2: We're back on this year, though.
- 51:52Speaker 1: We're so back on. I love the Loveland pick, you know,
- 51:57Speaker 1: I'm raft. I'm all in him being Sam Laporta part
- 52:03Speaker 1: two for Ben Johnson Luther Burden, who going into the season,
- 52:08Speaker 1: like a lot of people thought he might be the
- 52:09Speaker 1: best receiver in the draft. So the fact that he
- 52:12Speaker 1: dropped to the second round for the Bears and they
- 52:15Speaker 1: got him, and then they drafted an offensive lineman, a
- 52:17Speaker 1: six eight dude from Boston College Ye who will help
- 52:21Speaker 1: solidify the offensive line. That was a real issue obviously
- 52:24Speaker 1: for Caleb because he was sacked many times last year,
- 52:27Speaker 1: partially his fault he should let the ball go sooner.
- 52:30Speaker 1: We're gonna work on that, but they need defensive line help,
- 52:35Speaker 1: and they kind of ignored it and just said, we
- 52:37Speaker 1: need to do everything we can to maximize the opportunity
- 52:41Speaker 1: for Caleb Williams to be successful. Recognizing how important and
- 52:45Speaker 1: how good the other quarterbacks are in their division and
- 52:48Speaker 1: in their conference, they need him to be great week one.
- 52:53Speaker 1: This is the best opportunity to do that. So I'm
- 52:55Speaker 1: all in. Yeah.
- 52:57Speaker 2: They also made a deal to Devil and Ben Johnson.
- 52:59Speaker 2: They gave him a ton of money and you can
- 53:00Speaker 2: see in this draft that they let his imprint be
- 53:03Speaker 2: known on this team. And I love the pick with Loveland.
- 53:07Speaker 2: You know, I really thought they couldn't go wrong him
- 53:08Speaker 2: or Warrener, you know, the kid out of Penn State,
- 53:11Speaker 2: both great tight ends. Loveland's a freak. This kid could
- 53:15Speaker 2: be Gronk or like you said, Sam Laporta, that's that's
- 53:18Speaker 2: the ceiling, you know the fact that they get this
- 53:21Speaker 2: kid out of Missoo and the next round and where
- 53:23Speaker 2: it's like, like Chad said, he's projected to be your
- 53:26Speaker 2: first round of Steve Smith loves this kid, like can't
- 53:28Speaker 2: stop raving about him. And then you know it's not
- 53:31Speaker 2: the sexiest pick, but I like this kid Turner you
- 53:33Speaker 2: got as an edge. I think he has some really
- 53:35Speaker 2: high upside. So overall, like to me, the Bears their
- 53:39Speaker 2: first fourth picks really knocked it out of the park.
- 53:41Speaker 2: And yeah, I just I have so much faith in
- 53:44Speaker 2: Ben Johnson. If I don't really trust your your general
- 53:46Speaker 2: manager totally, I really do trust Ben Johnson and his
- 53:50Speaker 2: vision for building this team how he wants to. And
- 53:52Speaker 2: you can immediately see his imprint on this team right
- 53:55Speaker 2: from this get go with this draft.
- 53:58Speaker 1: I'm glad we're in agreement. I want to be like
- 54:00Speaker 1: having to push you into the Bears.
- 54:02Speaker 2: No, no, I'm man.
- 54:03Speaker 1: This is fantastic. All right, we're gonna come back tomorrow.
- 54:06Speaker 1: We're gonna do the AFC tomorrow. But it's fun going
- 54:10Speaker 1: through and trying to find the value early value, division
- 54:13Speaker 1: by division for these teams coming out of the draft.
