- 0:00All right, welcome back to another episode of The Take 2.
- 0:04Pod with mom and dad I'm. Dad.
- 0:07And I'm mom. The kids are down.
- 0:10It was a little rough tonight. Where you.
- 0:12Say it was. It was not easy.
- 0:14Our five month, almost 6 month old is teething.
- 0:18And when she's teething, she is an absolute menace.
- 0:22She bites now, she bites your finger if he gets near her
- 0:25mouth. She's eating less, she is
- 0:28sleeping less. She's putting us through the
- 0:30ringer a little bit. But she is adorable.
- 0:33Oh, she's so effing cute with her little Popeye.
- 0:35Arms little man was not easy tonight.
- 0:37I had to basically I told him clean up your toys, you wouldn't
- 0:41do it. He's like no I don't want I said
- 0:43OK well I don't want to read to you.
- 0:45So we went upstairs and I we were in the bathroom brushing
- 0:47his. Teeth.
- 0:48I'm like, you're not getting any.
- 0:49Books tonight, nothing. And he got upset.
- 0:52He's like, no, I want books. I said no, you.
- 0:54Have to go clean your toys and. He started going down the stairs
- 0:59after. A little bit of a hissy fit.
- 1:02And I'm like, you better be going to clean your toys.
- 1:06Then he went and started cleaning the toys and I was like
- 1:09OK OK is he serious? And he cleaned everything.
- 1:13I helped him a little bit to get him started but you know how he
- 1:16takes his sweet time to clean? He did it and then like alright
- 1:19let's go bud. I read him 3.
- 1:20Books watched one of his little stories.
- 1:24That's honestly impressive. He's, he's slowly becoming a
- 1:27little bit of a human. He's he's slowly just realizing
- 1:31that he needs to act right to get what he wants.
- 1:34Yeah, he's slowly being, he's slowly leaving the Matrix.
- 1:38Very slowly, yeah. Alright, so we are at episode 6
- 1:43of the Take Two pod with Mom and Dad.
- 1:45And tonight at tonight's episode is a different genre.
- 1:50It's one of our favorite genres. And, um, we'll go ahead and do
- 1:54the drum roll. What's your favorite scary
- 2:04movie? That's right, everyone.
- 2:06We're doing a staple of 90s horror today.
- 2:09Screaming. 1996. Yes.
- 2:13Released in 1996, directed by Wes Craven and starring Neve
- 2:18Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette.
- 2:21This is the first horror movie we're doing on the pod, and I
- 2:24would say it's probably our favorite genre.
- 2:27Yes, horror is definitely our favorite genre.
- 2:31The time we can't decide what to watch or if you know, if there's
- 2:35a weekend or whatever, we always save the new horror movie for
- 2:38that night. Yeah, there's also a specific
- 2:40friend that we would like to watch new horror movies with
- 2:43when she comes over and watches with us.
- 2:45I don't like talking about. She knows who she is.
- 2:49But yeah, we have movie posters in our basement and I just
- 2:54realized that we don't have any horror movie posters.
- 2:57No, we don't. I think ohe yeah we decided not
- 3:00cause they were all spooky. Well, Scream is pretty iconic.
- 3:02We probably could have had the Scream one down.
- 3:04Here, but there's there's ones we love more.
- 3:06This is one of our faves, don't get us wrong.
- 3:09But anyway, horror is a it's a it's a touchy.
- 3:13It's love to hate sometimes. Yeah, definitely.
- 3:16But I what I always say about horror movies is horror movies
- 3:18are like pizza. Even when they're bad, they're
- 3:21pretty good. Yeah, that's a good way to put
- 3:23it, yeah. Why don't you tell us what the
- 3:25box office data? OK so Scream.
- 3:28The box office for Scream was a 199614 million budget and the
- 3:36box office was wild. It was 170 + 1,000,000
- 3:40worldwide. So this movie made bank in 96,
- 3:44and it's no wonder the series is at #7 now.
- 3:49Yeah, Scream 7 is actually coming out next week on February
- 3:5227th. So that is part of the reason
- 3:56why we wanted to to do this movie today.
- 3:58This movie did revitalize the horror genre when it was in its
- 4:03IT was on his deathbed. Definitely did and we are going
- 4:06to talk about that a little bit later in cultural impact.
- 4:08OK, so that stops us for Scream. Scream follows a high school
- 4:12student named Sidney Prescott and her friends who, on the
- 4:16anniversary of her mother's murder, become the targets of a
- 4:20costumed serial killer. Hmm, that sounds kind of weird.
- 4:26That does sound kind of. Weird costume serial killer.
- 4:28It sounds like they hadn't decided the costume yet when
- 4:30that synopsis was written. Ohf fun fact, funny you
- 4:33mentioned that when they were location scouting for this
- 4:36movie. Um, apparently, I don't know if
- 4:39this is true, but the the crew found a Ghostface mask just
- 4:44laying there and they thought it was really cool.
- 4:47And they're like, why do we make this the the mask of the killer?
- 4:51That sounds like a horror movie urban legend.
- 4:53I don't know if that's true or if somebody planted that story
- 4:56to make it spookier. I mean, it wouldn't be spookier.
- 4:58It's kind of like making the crew seem lazy that they just,
- 5:02you know, found something. Yeah, cause I think those masks
- 5:06existed before Scream. They definitely got a boost
- 5:09after Scream happened, but they mentioned in the movie that
- 5:11they're at every Five and Dime costume store across the state.
- 5:16Right, so let's get into when did.
- 5:18You watch this the first. Time.
- 5:22I feel like a broken record every time this question comes
- 5:24up. I, I can't tell you the first
- 5:26time I saw this movie. I really, I really don't know to
- 5:29the point where I I can't even say if I was a kid or a
- 5:31teenager. I know the first time I saw it,
- 5:34I thought it was awesome. Yeah.
- 5:35But again, it's just a movie that's been around so long that
- 5:38I probably saw it in bits and pieces before I fully
- 5:41appreciated it as a work of. Art So when's your last
- 5:44recollection of like a memorable moment that you watched that?
- 5:49Honestly, with you I we watch it, we watch it like almost
- 5:51every Halloween. Yeah, that's true.
- 5:53So it's it's completely flooded my memory of this movie with.
- 5:57With so that I'm finally on Team Mom on this subject, I don't
- 6:02remember. I tried to think about it, but I
- 6:06don't. However, my first horror movie
- 6:08in theatres was Scream 3. I had gone.
- 6:12The worst of the franchise, worse than the new ones.
- 6:15Depends who you talk to. You know it's not all that
- 6:19great, and neither was 6. Two's pretty good. 6 was pretty
- 6:23bad. 6 was bad too. I I've talked, I'm gonna talk
- 6:26about this later, but I actually like Scream 4 the best of all
- 6:30the sequels. Four.
- 6:31Yeah, it's it is good. Well, they got Kevin Williams.
- 6:36I'm back for that to write and direct I think.
- 6:40Yeah, and I. Just no.
- 6:41That was Wes Craven's last directorial 1.
- 6:43And. Kevin Williamson wrote it, so it
- 6:45was. Just what?
- 6:46Wes Craven died after that. Yeah, so for me, I remember
- 6:49watching Scream 3 in the theatres.
- 6:51I'd gone with my sisters and, you know, I was very young, so
- 6:55there were the spooky scenes and I actually got scared.
- 6:59But when I left the theatre and the the scene that I remember
- 7:04the most as a kid was the gas leak scene.
- 7:08That was the scene that like I remember as a kid.
- 7:11The rest of them? Pretty epic.
- 7:12Scene, Yeah. The rest of the movie I don't
- 7:13remember until I got older and watched it but.
- 7:17Well, we just always talk about how bad Courtney Cox micro bangs
- 7:20are in it. Yeah.
- 7:21Yeah, it's bad. So when I left the theatre, I
- 7:25remember my sister, one of my sisters, saying it was actually
- 7:28more funny than scary. And when I got older, I'm like,
- 7:31yeah, there's a bunch of like, even the whole series, it's
- 7:34just, you know, the newer ones try to be funny, but the old
- 7:37ones were actually like, it was like a comedy.
- 7:39It wasn't really scary movie. The first one is the most
- 7:43serious and the most scary. Yeah.
- 7:45But they kind of become a parody of themselves as time went on.
- 7:49Yeah, and I'm going to talk about that later, but.
- 7:51Yeah. This movie was done by Dimension
- 7:56Films, which was basically that production company had a choke
- 8:00hold on everybody in the 90s because they were pumping out
- 8:03all the famous horror movies. If you like, there's literally a
- 8:06meme where it says if you see this logo at the beginning of
- 8:10the movie you know it's going to be fire.
- 8:12I've seen that meme with so many different logos though.
- 8:15I haven't. It's always been fire though.
- 8:17The Tristar one also. Tristar No, I'll try starting up
- 8:23there. They make some duds.
- 8:26So what? Why do you love this movie and
- 8:29why or why do you hate? It.
- 8:30I've I actually thought about this a lot when we were watching
- 8:33it. I don't know if it was obviously
- 8:36amazing when it came out. I don't know if it actually has
- 8:39aged that well to the point where I don't know if it's
- 8:41really that good anymore. But I still love it because I
- 8:45have like this movie was meant to be nostalgic the moment it
- 8:50came out. It was nostalgic of the 90s even
- 8:52before the 90s were over. It's meant to be watched over
- 8:56and over again. So whenever I watch it, I do
- 8:59have that nostalgic feeling, even though I've, I've had most
- 9:02of my viewings of this movie as an adult, but I do love it
- 9:06because I think it's, it's unique and creative and it did
- 9:09revitalize the horror genre. Hmm.
- 9:11So I I have a special place in my heart for it.
- 9:15So this movie, I'm watching it with a more critical eye.
- 9:19Honestly, it's just pure nostalgia.
- 9:21Now. If you weren't around when this
- 9:23came out, you would not care about this movie at all.
- 9:27Because honestly, this movie is the epitome of being self aware.
- 9:32The whole movie is self aware. They make references to horror
- 9:36movies. They make themselves characters
- 9:39like they call this one the virgin and this one not and this
- 9:42and that this one the nerd, the the jealous boyfriend, all these
- 9:45things come up. But it did revitalize the horror
- 9:50genre and it's known for that because before this they had all
- 9:53the Jason movies and all the sequels and Nightmare on Elm
- 9:57Street, which was Wes Craven. But you know, after the 4th
- 10:01sequel it's like OK, come on, he had all the Halloween movies.
- 10:04They just pumping them out. This sequel didn't even make
- 10:07sense and people. We're just like, OK, then you
- 10:10had a few creature feature. Movies like the Leprechaun and
- 10:13stuff like that. And horror was just like kind of
- 10:16going down. This is the first one that's
- 10:18like, no, no, no, we're gonna make fun of ourselves, but we're
- 10:21also gonna scare you and we're going to do a kick ass story.
- 10:25And it's it's also such a time capsule for from the 90s, from
- 10:29the music to the wardrobe to the references, like the Richard
- 10:34Gere gerbil reference. Yeah, such a time capsule we'll
- 10:38talk about. That, yeah, I'm going to talk
- 10:40about it later, but it's such a time capsule for 1996.
- 10:43Like it's it, it feels so such so iconic 90s.
- 10:47Yeah, and this movie did some stuff that it had a lot of balls
- 10:51to that other. We didn't have the balls to do
- 10:53like on the movie poster. You've got Neve Campbell, you've
- 10:57got Courtney Cox, you've got, you know, Skeet Allrich, and you
- 11:00have Drew Barrymore. And Drew Barrymore dies in the
- 11:051st 10 minutes of this movie. She's a smart.
- 11:08Maybe the 1st 15? Minutes, yeah, but she first
- 11:11scene. Yeah, the first.
- 11:12Scene The credits don't even roll.
- 11:13Yet. Yeah.
- 11:14And she's already dead. And that is ballsy.
- 11:17But that's like how they misdirected people, people in
- 11:20the theatre when this came out. Even on video, you're like, oh,
- 11:22it's Drew Barrymore. She's a star.
- 11:24She's in this, she's in that. And then she just gets totally
- 11:27sliced up in the first scene. Yeah, well, she was probably
- 11:30meant to put butts in seats and then to shock everyone.
- 11:35Well, she was supposed to be Sydney.
- 11:38She was originally. Up for the party?
- 11:41And she had a scheduling conflict.
- 11:44So she had already signed. Like she was basically, she
- 11:47loved the story and she's like, yeah, let's do it.
- 11:49But then she had a scheduling conflict and they had to cast
- 11:52somebody else. And then she's like, listen, I
- 11:54still want to be part of this. How can we do it?
- 11:56And they came up with the idea of making a a current star get
- 12:00sliced up in the 1st 10 minutes. Which is pretty cool.
- 12:03Yeah, that is cool. One thing I noticed about this
- 12:06movie, the phone call scenes were the scariest parts for me.
- 12:11Every time there was a scene where Ghostface called somebody,
- 12:15whether it was the opening or calling enough Campbell's house
- 12:19or her friend's house later on in the movie.
- 12:22All those scenes were good. Like it was just very serious.
- 12:26That was the point in the movie where it wasn't being self
- 12:29aware. But the rest of the movie is
- 12:31just kind of funny now. It's hard to, but this is the
- 12:35movie that started the high school murder movies.
- 12:37The high school. Crushers.
- 12:39Yeah, they did Halloween. H2O.
- 12:42Faculty one of my favorites, Halloween H2O was actually the
- 12:45first movie that really frightened me afterwards.
- 12:48Well, the faculty was directly influenced by this, as was urban
- 12:52legend, as was I Know What You Did Last Summer.
- 12:54Yeah, they were all directly influenced by this because this
- 12:57movie made that genre pop and come back.
- 13:01Yeah, it created the high school slasher, which ended up creating
- 13:05the high school parody movie, which was Scary Movie.
- 13:09It's so. Amazing that movie.
- 13:11That's one of our favorites as well, but we'll save that for
- 13:15another night because the end result of all these high school
- 13:19murder movies were just was scary movie.
- 13:21Yeah, it was. It was kind of interesting.
- 13:23After this era there was the CGI ghosts, which aged really badly
- 13:28because of the bad CGI in the early 2000s.
- 13:33Yeah, there was the torture gore like era which saw hostile Texas
- 13:38Chainsaw Massacre. Yeah, then the first saw, of
- 13:41course, was revolutionary as well.
- 13:43But but it started another trend, right?
- 13:44So it did. After that you have the the
- 13:47ghosts, the house go the how the something with the house, stuff
- 13:50like that with the. Conjuring and insidious.
- 13:53Yeah, which is where things start to get really good.
- 13:55Yeah, So, you know, horror is interesting.
- 13:58It goes in phases and it's not something you think about
- 14:02because people are like, oh, horror movie.
- 14:03They're not real. Movies, it's just.
- 14:05Something that you know well there.
- 14:07There's so many subcategories as well.
- 14:09Like I think you're a lot more into slashers than I am, whereas
- 14:12I'm more into like a haunted house horror movie.
- 14:15Like that's why I love The Conjuring.
- 14:16That's why I. Love and I like both.
- 14:18I like. Yeah, but you are the one who's
- 14:19like, oh, there's a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 14:21Let's watch it where I'm like, I could not care less.
- 14:23About this. Chainsaw Massacre.
- 14:25It's it's interesting and they've made terrible ones.
- 14:28And there's there's like two or three that I haven't wanted to
- 14:31watch ever. But the 2003 with Jessica.
- 14:34Feel the remake that was good like that was a low key fire.
- 14:38Yeah, but I find like that and and Halloween, it gets a little
- 14:42bit too gross for me. And the killers, they never
- 14:45actually have a true motive. So I just it falls a little bit
- 14:48flat. For me, it's still fun.
- 14:49It's interesting. I like a little bit more
- 14:51character work. You wanna get into the segments?
- 14:54Yeah, let's do it. OK, But before we do, does it
- 14:58smell like up gorgeous in here? What does it smell like up
- 15:02gorgeous? Are you OK?
- 15:06Are you having a stroke? What's up, gorgeous?
- 15:09Nothing much. What's up with you?
- 15:11Oh my God. It's a mom joke for you.
- 15:14Listen. To mom joke.
- 15:15Yeah. That's like a dad joke that dads
- 15:19don't use anymore. Yeah.
- 15:20That's so bad. That's what mom jokes are.
- 15:22OK there. There was cycled dad jokes.
- 15:24OK, alright. Do you wanna talk about
- 15:27cringiest moment or should I? I'll go first.
- 15:29OK. So this movie, as I said, it's
- 15:33all nostalgia now for me. So there's a lot of cringy
- 15:35moments, yeah. That.
- 15:38For me the all time cringiest is anytime Sydney is out and about
- 15:43you see the ghost face guy just running around the town or
- 15:47hiding in the bushes. Like what the fuck bro?
- 15:50Like you're going to get caught. You just killed like two
- 15:53teenagers. Like there's a scene where she's
- 15:55in the grocery store with, what's her name, the red Rose
- 15:58McGowan. With Tatum.
- 15:59Tatum Yeah, the actress is Rose McGowan.
- 16:03They just walk out of the store and the camera just like it
- 16:07pans, laughs or something and you just see the reflection of
- 16:09ghost face in the convenience store.
- 16:11Yeah, and there's fucking cops outside.
- 16:13Yeah, like what? You're.
- 16:15Like what is happening the the towns on curfew?
- 16:18And he's in the bushes at one point in Broad.
- 16:20Daylight and it's not scary either.
- 16:22It's not like he's in the distance and you know, like in
- 16:25the in the show Hill house where there's just a ghost in the
- 16:27background randomly and it Spooks you out.
- 16:30This is just like, he's like, he's like.
- 16:33Bobbing his head. Like a ninja?
- 16:35Yeah. He's like, oh.
- 16:36I hope they don't catch me. Like it's ridiculous.
- 16:39It is. And if it's not the actual
- 16:41killers, at least let us like make sure like make give us a
- 16:44fake out where it's you know, it scares her.
- 16:47And then the guy takes the mask off and says.
- 16:49No, I'm just I'm. Just they do that inside the
- 16:51high school those two guys are running.
- 16:53Around just once, but there's two or three scenes where he's
- 16:56just in the bushes by her house. So who's?
- 16:59Doing. That.
- 17:00Like who? Come on.
- 17:01I agree it doesn't really make sense.
- 17:03Yeah. So that's the change for me.
- 17:05I mean, it wasn't, was it supposed to be scary then Nine
- 17:0890s Because it's it's just stupid now.
- 17:11I think at the time it was, it was like, it's supposed to be
- 17:13like a bit of a jump scare, but it's, yeah, it doesn't really
- 17:16hold up to the jump scares up today.
- 17:18So for me, the cringing, the cringiest moment by far is the
- 17:22whole interaction between Gale and Dewey when they're on the
- 17:25steps of the school where he says she's like, you don't look
- 17:29a day over 12. And he's like, because of my
- 17:31boyish good looks, muscle mass has increased my acceptance as a
- 17:34serious police officer because she tells him you don't look a
- 17:37day over 12 except for that upper body.
- 17:39And he's that's what he says. Yeah, that's a really fucking
- 17:42cringy. And then she's like, so you have
- 17:43seen the show. I thought my viewership was all
- 17:46under 25 year olds. And he's like, I'm 25, but I was
- 17:4924 for a whole year. Weathers Field Correspondent.
- 17:52Top story. I know who you are, Miss
- 17:54Weathers. You know the demographic study I
- 17:57proved to be most popular amongst males 11 to 24.
- 18:01I guess I just missed you. Probably may say so, Miss
- 18:04Weathers, you are much prettier in person.
- 18:11So you do watch the show. I'm 25.
- 18:16I was 24 for a whole year. Please call me GAIL like.
- 18:21It's so corny and like, I get, I get that he's supposed to be
- 18:25like he's kind of supposed to be like Joe and starry eyed, like
- 18:28sweet and kind of innocent, but that's.
- 18:31Dumb. He's dumb.
- 18:32Well it's really dumb. And then also, no offence to ski
- 18:36Alrich AKA Billy. He's a he's a bad actor.
- 18:42Well, he's discount Johnny Depp. That's what he.
- 18:45Is he wishes he was trying out. Cause he cause Johnny Depp was a
- 18:48Nightmare on Elm Street right? With Wes Craven.
- 18:50This is his like. And it's a similar hair.
- 18:53Listen. Oh yeah, discount Johnny.
- 18:54The tight white shirt. But there are key scenes where
- 18:57he's overacting or acting wrong so much in the movie that it
- 19:01makes me cringe. Like there's a scene where he's
- 19:02in the police station and he's looking through the window at
- 19:05Sydney and he's like supposed to look brooding or intimidating, I
- 19:09guess. I don't know.
- 19:10What he's trying, He looks like you're creep, right?
- 19:12Yeah, he just looks like he's giving her a weird, dirty look.
- 19:14Like, it doesn't really, it doesn't really lands.
- 19:17And there's just other scenes where, yeah, his acting is
- 19:20either over the top or he he seems like he doesn't want to
- 19:23be. There.
- 19:23Listen, let's go back to Courtney Cox and.
- 19:27What's his name again? David Arquette.
- 19:29David Arquette, I always want to call it Will Arnett.
- 19:31I don't know why. This is where they met.
- 19:33They they they, they got married.
- 19:34After I know, but she married Arnette after right?
- 19:37Yeah, yeah. That's why.
- 19:38No, no, no. David Arquette.
- 19:39She married. I know they divorced, but then
- 19:41she married. Will Arnett didn't.
- 19:42She did she. I don't know.
- 19:45Is. OK, we'll have to Fact Check.
- 19:48That yeah, Fact Check. That OK?
- 19:49Anyway, I just find Courtney Cox hitting on anybody cringey.
- 19:54I'm sorry. No cause she was in friends and
- 19:56she's always been sexy. No I wanna see her hitting on
- 19:59people she's not. Yes she is.
- 20:00No GAIL wasn't GAIL. GAIL Weathers the sexy as.
- 20:03Fuck no she's not. And she's Campbell's and.
- 20:06She's a gay icon for some reason.
- 20:07Those McGowan is pretty in this. Did you know that that she was a
- 20:10gay icon? Isn't that random?
- 20:12Like why I don't know how you did you get nominated or
- 20:16something? I was listening to a podcast
- 20:18with these gay guys on it and they were talking about how
- 20:20she's a gay icon and I was like why?
- 20:22This movie is not LGBT? She doesn't say anything pro or
- 20:25anti-gay. Like is it cause her last name
- 20:27Cox? I mean, just a shot in the dark.
- 20:33Oh my God, legend. OK, Next segment, most iconic
- 20:42moment or quote, Go ahead. I have a few.
- 20:46OHP fuck sorry that was funny so I'll say my moments first.
- 20:51The scene where Randy tells us how to survive a horror movie so
- 20:55iconic. He's standing in his house.
- 20:57He's like no drinking alcohol, no having sex.
- 21:01There are rules. He yells at everyone.
- 21:04You don't know the rules. Yeah, he's telling.
- 21:06Everybody pauses the movie to get up and tell them.
- 21:08You gotta, you gotta, you gotta, you know, be on on board with
- 21:11this. That's pretty much the only
- 21:13scene my quotes are when when Billy sneaks into Sydney's room
- 21:20and they're making out and she makes him leave.
- 21:22And she said, would you settle for a PG13 relationship?
- 21:25Because he was talking about how their relationship used to be
- 21:27rated R Yeah. And he says, what's that?
- 21:29And she flashes him. Yeah.
- 21:32So I like that scene when GAIL. Gets really mad.
- 21:36He's like you just tease and he leaves.
- 21:39I yeah, I have some thoughts on that later where it's gonna get
- 21:41pretty serious. But when GAIL Weathers cameraman
- 21:45can't keep up, keep up with her and she goes.
- 21:47Kenny, I know you're about 50 lbs overweight, but when I say
- 21:50hurry, that means move your fat tub of lard ass now.
- 21:56See. That seems funny.
- 21:57It is funny. It's funny.
- 21:59She's like me. She's like.
- 22:00She's mean, yeah. But it's it works so well.
- 22:04She's a comedic actor. That's why she was on friends.
- 22:06I don't find her sexy. I find her sexy and funny both.
- 22:12Well. You know who was both?
- 22:15The girl from Big Bang Theory. You OK?
- 22:19You have like a weird crush on her but you didn't even watch
- 22:21that show. Yeah, I know, but she's funny
- 22:23and attractive. Yeah, OK, then, Kaylee Cuco.
- 22:27Because she was. Trying to be Cuoco Cuoco.
- 22:30I'm in love with the Coco. Thinking so that.
- 22:34It was Sweeting for a minute when she was married, which made
- 22:36it so much easier. Do you want to say a few and
- 22:39then come back to me? So a favorite moment for me is
- 22:44the ending where they reveal 2 killers instead of 1.
- 22:49That part is wild. That's my favorite moment.
- 22:53Spoiler alert ohk fuck. Off.
- 22:56Given. 30 years ago, 30 year anniversary bro So.
- 23:01At the end of the movie, you know, you find out that the
- 23:03boyfriend is the killer, and then, yeah, you find out that,
- 23:09um, Stu is helping him. Like there's two killers that
- 23:13never happened before. Like it's very, very.
- 23:17That was the movie that changed so many things.
- 23:18They're like, yo, we changed the game.
- 23:20You know, there's two killers. And that had to happen because
- 23:23there were so many times where one of them had an alibi.
- 23:25So it had to be, it had these two people.
- 23:27Working together well. Thought out was like, yeah,
- 23:29let's do 2 killers. You can, you can trick people so
- 23:32much and then every movie after that's been trying to like do
- 23:36that kind of thing. I was gonna say it's been done
- 23:38to death, but this was the first time where it was like, whoa.
- 23:40But, but I think the best scene of the movie was when my
- 23:43favorite moment is the ending with the two killers.
- 23:46But the best scene I think is the opening.
- 23:50The opening scene is. Fucking A+.
- 23:52I I talked about that later about how it's, it's very dark
- 23:57and it's probably the scariest of all the scream openings.
- 24:00Yeah, I agree. Yeah, go ahead.
- 24:03With quotes. What else?
- 24:04You got so the principal says. You make me sick.
- 24:07Your entire havoc inducing, thieving whoring generation
- 24:10disgusts me. And then Randy of course says
- 24:15there's a formula to it. A very simple formula.
- 24:19Everyone's a suspect. Yeah, Fonzie loses his mind.
- 24:23He's like threatening to kill those kids.
- 24:24He's such a good character in this.
- 24:26He's alright. And then when Tatum is in the
- 24:30garage with ghost Face, she says oh, you wanna play psycho
- 24:32killer? Can I be the helpless victim?
- 24:36No, please don't kill me, Mr. Ghostface.
- 24:38I wanna be in the sequel which is super meta very mentally,
- 24:42especially considering how many. Sequel Scream has had crazy and
- 24:45she's not in. It it aged well.
- 24:47Because of her age, very. Well, because of this, like all
- 24:49the sequels that happened. I got a.
- 24:52Couple here, so one of mine is there.
- 24:54Are. Rules.
- 24:55You got the classic. Surprise.
- 24:59Sydney. What's your favorite scary
- 25:03movie? And the best 1 I think.
- 25:08Love you. Yeah, I almost killed him, but
- 25:15you're missing one of the most iconic OHS.
- 25:17We all go a little mad sometimes.
- 25:20That's from Psycho. Is it really?
- 25:23Yeah. Wow what a RIP off.
- 25:25I thought this is like I thought it was.
- 25:27So original? No, that's it's a call back to
- 25:29psycho. Oh, I didn't know that.
- 25:32And I've seen Psycho more than you, so I'm surprised that I
- 25:34didn't know that. And my last quote is, Oh my God,
- 25:38Randy, I thought you were dead. And he says I probably should
- 25:41be. I never thought I'd be so happy
- 25:42to be a virgin because we talked about how virgins always live in
- 25:45the horror movies. You have to be a virgin
- 25:46deserving God. Yeah, this movie has some really
- 25:49good quotes, and it's been like, made fun of in movies like
- 25:53swearing. Me and other movies have tried
- 25:55to do similar things. Yeah, it's kind of like this.
- 25:59You know, the old line from Spiderman with Toby McGuire.
- 26:03You know, with great power comes great responsibility.
- 26:07This movie is the the horror movie version of that, where
- 26:10it's it, it set the tone for a lot of horror movie quotes and
- 26:15tropes. But it did, you know, it
- 26:17recycled some epic quotes like the one from Psycho.
- 26:20I can't believe you didn't know. That I guess I didn't realize.
- 26:22Now that you're saying it, I'm remembering when he said this to
- 26:24go, but I just always love that that that part, even though
- 26:28Skito all riches. We all go a.
- 26:30Little mad sometimes when our kids won't sleep and they keep
- 26:35crying and crying. And they're teething.
- 26:38And nothing works. I'm OK alright, classic or
- 26:43cancelled? You you should go first cause
- 26:45mines very heavy. OK, so I'm going to just kind of
- 26:50say. It.
- 26:51This movie has no black people. There's no Hispanic people.
- 26:55There's no brown people, Asian, there's no ethnicities.
- 26:58There's one clip where they're on the schoolyard and there's a
- 27:03black reporter, a female black reporter, and she's on the
- 27:07screen for about 10 seconds with a couple of lines.
- 27:11But. Unfortunately.
- 27:12That 48. Minutes for that to happen until
- 27:15you finally see somebody that isn't white.
- 27:18It's just kind of shocking. I mean it is the 90s but still
- 27:21like come on, this whole town is just a bunch of the people.
- 27:25And also the scene where they interrogate Sydney after Drew
- 27:30Barrymore gets killed. The principal pulls her into the
- 27:33office and the sheriff is there and Dewey's there, and the
- 27:37principal just kind of like touches her chin, like he puts
- 27:41her hand under her chin and it's like, it's alright, sweetie.
- 27:44It's like you can't do that now you.
- 27:46Can't. No, I actually.
- 27:47Touch anybody's chin. I like that moment.
- 27:49He was being very tender and fatherly.
- 27:51Yeah, you don't touch someone's chin.
- 27:54That's too close, man. No, you, you can, you can put
- 27:57your hand maybe on their back, lower back and rub it until
- 28:03they're uncomfortable. And I'm just kidding.
- 28:05No, you put your. Hand on their.
- 28:06Shoulder the quick tap and you just that's it.
- 28:11Like you don't touch her chin. I don't think that that's cause
- 28:14for concern, but but to go back to what you were saying about,
- 28:17it's a very wide heavy movie. Unfortunately that happened a
- 28:20lot in the 90s, but luckily today there is a lot more
- 28:23representation in movies because I think that the error of the
- 28:27ways have been realized. So this movie is obviously a
- 28:31classic and a piece of iconic 90s cinema, but of course
- 28:35because it was the 90s, some parts of it don't align with the
- 28:38values we have today. I don't think it's uncommon for
- 28:42a boyfriend to be pressuring our girlfriend for sex when they're
- 28:45teenagers. But it does bring up the topic
- 28:47of consent. Sydney does eventually agree to
- 28:51sleep with Billy, but he's been lying to her the whole time.
- 28:54Yeah. So is that true consent?
- 28:56Like, like, would she? Obviously she wouldn't have
- 28:59slept with him had she known he was the killer.
- 29:01Yeah. But also, he does pressure her
- 29:03throughout the movie. And today, that would probably
- 29:06be viewed with an with a raised eyebrow, just because.
- 29:10Because he's nags or the whole time.
- 29:12Because he nags at the whole time and bothers her for.
- 29:14It so you getting nagged until you finally see us.
- 29:17Pretty much. Oh, I see what you mean.
- 29:19So I could see it getting cancelled for that reason.
- 29:21And then of course, I mean, not to put a damper on it, but like
- 29:25the violence against women and domestic violence in this movie,
- 29:27he is, he murdered. He he murders his he tries to
- 29:32murder his girlfriend, who is. His They raped his musical
- 29:34partner. They raped his mom and killed
- 29:36her mom. I have a question about that
- 29:38later. I don't know if she was raped.
- 29:40I think she had sex with Cotton Weary and then was murdered and
- 29:43because they thought it was Cotton Weary, they viewed.
- 29:45It as a rape and. Murder.
- 29:47So they may have raped her, but I'm I'm, I'm really not sure.
- 29:50So that there is like a little bit of kind of ickiness around
- 29:53sex and of course, domestic violence and violence against
- 29:56women because Tatum is also murdered by her boyfriend.
- 30:00Yeah. So that.
- 30:01Well, yeah, I mean, that's a really good point.
- 30:04It's very complicated answer because she does initiate it at
- 30:09the end of the movie. And he's not even he.
- 30:11She's the one who's like, we gotta go have a talk upstairs.
- 30:14And she takes him upstairs and then they sit on the bed and she
- 30:18starts talking to him. And then she basically, you
- 30:21know, initiates 100. Percent consensus and that
- 30:24scene. But of course, he's lying to.
- 30:26Her. She initiates.
- 30:29Yeah, she does. That's true.
- 30:30Yeah, that's true. The table turns.
- 30:33That's true. But whether you wanna call that
- 30:34psychological manipulation, I mean you can.
- 30:39She did say no for about a year. My concern with the whole
- 30:42canceled part for that, honestly, my biggest concern is
- 30:46this guy, your girlfriend's mom. Like obviously he's the one that
- 30:50did it. He killed his, her mom, but she,
- 30:52she was murdered a year ago and you've been nagging her for, you
- 30:59know, for, for sexy time for this long.
- 31:02Yeah, read the room, guy. And she has clear boundaries
- 31:05with him. He's like, I know you have an
- 31:06underwear rule. And he like lays on top of her
- 31:09and tries to reach under her dress and she slaps his hand
- 31:11away like she sets clear boundaries with him to.
- 31:13Stop. He's obviously a psycho killer.
- 31:16That's the only way to justify his behavior.
- 31:18He's a psycho killer. That's.
- 31:20It, well, I mean, also a lot of teenage boys act like that.
- 31:24They they kill their girlfriends mom and then they they wait a
- 31:27year to. Kill them, but they.
- 31:28Push. They push the envelope with sax.
- 31:30OK, I wasn't sure. Yeah.
- 31:33Alright, so can you watch this movie with your parents?
- 31:37Um, this movie is definitely marketed towards a young
- 31:41audience and it's kind of a wink at the classic horror movie
- 31:46being very meta and pointing out typical tropes.
- 31:49So I wouldn't call it a family movie.
- 31:52It's more of a movie you watch with your friends when you're a
- 31:54teen or young adult. And of course we both saw it
- 31:58when we were young and now it has a nostalgic feeling for us.
- 32:02So you can watch it with your parents, but there's definitely
- 32:04better things to watch as a family besides Scream.
- 32:08You know, it's, it's sexual and it's gory, not really something
- 32:11that you want to watch with your parents.
- 32:13Yeah, there's there's some uncomfortable scenes that if
- 32:15your parents are in the room, you kind of like the old, like
- 32:17the scene where he climbs into her window.
- 32:19And she flashes him and everything.
- 32:20Yeah, that seems a little uncomfortable.
- 32:22Yeah. The scene at the end when
- 32:25they're doing it, that's uncomfortable.
- 32:27All the Dewey scenes with Courtney Cox, that's just
- 32:31uncomfortable. When they talk.
- 32:32Yeah, they just. Oh my.
- 32:33God. It's it has aged very poorly.
- 32:37Yeah, they don't. Specially because they got
- 32:38married and divorced and then they they divorced when they
- 32:41made the other movies. Not all of them, I think.
- 32:44The first two few. Of the 1st 2 they were married.
- 32:46The third one, they were like they were signing the paperwork.
- 32:50But yeah, this movie, I I think you can watch it with your
- 32:52parents. It's it's alright.
- 32:54Honestly, I've seen the this with my mom a couple times and
- 32:58it's like you laugh at it more. It's like, why did she do that?
- 33:02Why is she not running in this direction?
- 33:04Why is she, Yeah, you know, like he's the classic horror things.
- 33:07Like why would they go that direction?
- 33:09Like stop. And there's no nudity and the
- 33:11sex scenes very mild. So you could.
- 33:13It wouldn't be that uncomfortable.
- 33:14Yeah, you could do it. Who's your favorite or least
- 33:18favorite supporting character? So my favorite character is
- 33:23obviously Randy. Yeah, he's awesome.
- 33:25He's the best. He becomes our guide through the
- 33:28movie because he's such a horror movie buff that he can predict
- 33:30what the killer will do next. He can predict how best to
- 33:33survive. If you were the only suspect in
- 33:36a senseless bloodbath, would you be standing in the horror
- 33:39section? It's just misunderstanding.
- 33:44He didn't do anything. You're such a little lap dog.
- 33:47He's got killer printed all over his forehead.
- 33:49There's always some stupid bullshit reason to kill your
- 33:51girlfriend. That's the beauty of it all.
- 33:55Simplicity. Besides, if it gets too
- 33:57complicated, you lose your target audience.
- 34:00Well, why can't they find their pops, man?
- 34:03Because he's probably dead. His body will come popping up in
- 34:08the last real somewhere. Eyes gouged out, fingers cut
- 34:11off, teeth knocked out. See, the police are always off
- 34:14track with this shit. If they watch prom night, they'd
- 34:17save time. There's a formula to it, a very
- 34:19simple formula. Everybody's a suspect if you're
- 34:25living through a horror movie. And I just, I gotta throw an
- 34:28honorable mention to the principal.
- 34:30He's very sweet and fatherly. He touched.
- 34:33He touches Sydney's face very tenderly before she's questioned
- 34:36by the police. Without consent and
- 34:38inappropriately, if I might say myself if I do say so.
- 34:41It's so innocent though, I mean, and I really liked that.
- 34:46And he says over the loudspeaker, Remember, your
- 34:48principal loves you and I just want you to be safe.
- 34:51So it is very campy, but I I just, I really love.
- 34:55And of course that scene where he calls our general, the
- 34:58generation, very horing and chaotic and habit breaking.
- 35:01So I just really liked all that. And also, why does Ghostface
- 35:06kill him? Why is he a victim?
- 35:07Maybe they killed him because they needed to make sure that
- 35:10the school stayed closed, so that should be out of school.
- 35:13I guess. Because of the principal got
- 35:15murdered. Like yeah, that school is not
- 35:17opening for a while so maybe that's why.
- 35:20Cause remember how happy he was us too when they they shut the
- 35:23school down for that day. Yeah, he was.
- 35:25Yeah, psyched. So he was very happy.
- 35:28He thanked her and everything. So my favorite character,
- 35:31supporting character of this movie is Tatum, played by Rose
- 35:35McGowan. She's a really good friend.
- 35:38I was about to say she's a good ass friend to Sydney.
- 35:41Campbell goes to her house or Sydney goes to her house a
- 35:44couple times. You know, she's like, stay here,
- 35:47stay over her brother. So she has to deal with that.
- 35:52But also she puts up a fight against Ghost face.
- 35:56She fucking kicks him in the balls, throws some beer bottles
- 36:00at him. Like she actually puts up a
- 36:02fight. But then she makes this stupid
- 36:05decision to try to go through the doggy door of the garage.
- 36:08It's her only way out. She could have pushed the garage
- 36:11door button. He was chasing her.
- 36:13She could have push the garage door button and then through
- 36:17some more beer bottles at her and then made it out.
- 36:19But it's a movie. There's a lot of scenes where
- 36:21Drew Barrymore could have got away, like, right away.
- 36:24But it's a movie. Yeah.
- 36:27So yeah, that's my favorite. Who's your least favorite?
- 36:31Very obvious Stu, really. He is annoying.
- 36:35He makes dumb joke jokes. He makes insensitive jokes.
- 36:38He's like the best actress. He sticks his tongue out all the
- 36:41time for some reason. And yeah, yeah, it's it's very
- 36:44cringy. He murders his girlfriend, like
- 36:48I was saying earlier, domestic violence for no reason.
- 36:50And he joins in with Billy for no reason.
- 36:54When he is asked, Sidney asked him, what's your motive?
- 36:57He literally says peer pressure. Peer pressure.
- 37:00I mean, it makes sense. He's garbage.
- 37:02It makes sense because Billy. Tries to fucking kill him at the
- 37:05end, right? Yeah, so why are you working
- 37:07with him if he's so psycho? Who's who's psycho?
- 37:10Billy Psycho. I'm saying it's peer pressure.
- 37:13Maybe that's a that's a garbage excuse for murder.
- 37:16It is a garbage. I'm just telling you why what I
- 37:19think happened. My least favorite character of
- 37:21the movie? I'm gonna say Courtney Cox.
- 37:25How dare you I just scale Weathers is a fucking icon.
- 37:28I, I, I can't, I can't do it, man.
- 37:30I don't know what if it's her acting or just who her character
- 37:34that she plays, which she is, she's, she plays a really
- 37:37terrible person. Like she's all in it for herself
- 37:41in all the movies. She just comes up to situations
- 37:44where she has to step up, but she doesn't give a shit about
- 37:48anybody else. She kind of redeems herself when
- 37:51she tries to save Sydney because she could have run.
- 37:53She's just one of those reporters that they're just like
- 37:56trying to get the next story, you know, Like I, I don't like
- 37:59her character at all. Maybe it's partly I don't like
- 38:02Courtney Cox either. Like I'm not a fan of hers.
- 38:04I never really watched Friends. You you don't like friends?
- 38:07Yeah, I don't think it's funny, I think it's just boring and
- 38:09annoying. Oh, it's very funny.
- 38:11Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry were the best parts of that.
- 38:14They were amazing but so the girls were great too.
- 38:17Ross is the only one that sucked.
- 38:19Yeah, nobody likes. Ross, David Schwimmer was awful.
- 38:22Cultural impact? What are you thinking?
- 38:25So we've, we already kind of went over this a little bit, but
- 38:30Scream revitalized the horror genre in the 90s.
- 38:34Horror had become very formulaic and predictable and bad.
- 38:37And Scream took that and turned it on, turned it on its head.
- 38:41It follows the formula while making fun of it simultaneously
- 38:46pointing out how absurd characters.
- 38:48Tend to act. In horror movie, Yeah.
- 38:50It points out how absurdly people act in horror movies,
- 38:53putting themselves in danger, checking out suspicious sounds.
- 38:57It, it makes fun of all of those tropes and like.
- 39:00Even talks about running up the stairs instead of leaving the
- 39:02front door. And yeah, I like I literally.
- 39:05Happened in the. Movie yeah, I literally have
- 39:07something on that as well. Like we said earlier, it it
- 39:11directly inspired I know what you Did last summer, urban
- 39:14legend, disturbing, disturbing behavior and the faculty and
- 39:17more. It paved the way for horror and
- 39:20slashers to change and become smarter, more self aware and
- 39:23funnier. Like for example, I don't think
- 39:26we would have Cabin in the Woods without this movie.
- 39:29It really opened up the horizon where to be able to be a little
- 39:32bit more interesting. Yeah.
- 39:34That's true and on top of that it's it's very meta.
- 39:38The characters are aware of the typical typical horror movie
- 39:41tropes and poke fun of them while living through them as
- 39:43well. Like Sidney says, it's stupid to
- 39:46run upstairs in a horror movie instead of going through the
- 39:50front door. And then of course she's being
- 39:51chased, she goes for the door and can't get out and ends up
- 39:54running upstairs instead of to the back door, which was in the
- 39:58same direction I'll point out. But that's just me, and the
- 40:03ghost face villain mask is also very iconic and a pop culture
- 40:08staple after this movie, becoming very recognizable and
- 40:11tied to this franchise. Cultural impact for this movie.
- 40:14I think there's tons of imitators now.
- 40:17Parodies were literally invented because of this movie, because
- 40:21this movie, you know, led to faculty, like we said, and urban
- 40:25Legend. And I know what you did last
- 40:26summer. So cultural impact.
- 40:28It's still like. You, you know, you're on your
- 40:307th movie coming out next week. It's definitely, you know, a 90s
- 40:34bop and it's still rolling. It still has a pause after 30
- 40:39years. But yeah, what about the
- 40:42soundtrack? What do you think of that?
- 40:44So I actually had never really thought about the soundtrack
- 40:47that much before this viewing. Um, but the score of the movie
- 40:52is very suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your seat,
- 40:55whereas in different scenes they have like these alternative 90's
- 41:00rock songs and it gives the film that very 90s feeling.
- 41:04Anytime they they do a wide shot of the high school and students
- 41:07pulling up. Yeah, they played the the youth
- 41:10of America. Yeah, in one of those scenes.
- 41:13It always puts me in the mood for a 90s movie and gives the
- 41:16film such a unique and specific flavor.
- 41:18And another song I noticed in the movie during this scene
- 41:21where Billy Loomis crawls through cities window, the song
- 41:25Don't fear the Reaper is playing, which actually might be
- 41:28a nod to the fact that he is a killer.
- 41:32Yeah. This is Don't fear the Reaper,
- 41:34he comes in. She's obviously not afraid of.
- 41:35Him cause it's her. Boyfriend.
- 41:36Yeah, it might be a little bit of a hint.
- 41:38Yeah. And of course, that song is also
- 41:40very iconic in horror. It's also in one of the remakes
- 41:43of Halloween. Yeah, this movie, the soundtrack
- 41:46I think is really good. It's, you know, you watch it and
- 41:49you hear the sounds and you're like, oh, this is a times time
- 41:52capsule of the 90s. Like definitely.
- 41:54You know, you think about loose genes, Jordans, Doc Martins, you
- 42:00know, you know that that vibe from the 90s, that's immediately
- 42:04what comes to mind. But one thing I gotta say, and I
- 42:07should have mentioned it earlier, whenever there's a a
- 42:10scary moment like a jump scare or anything, especially when the
- 42:16killer calls, there's a sound effect that literally sounds
- 42:20like Tim Allen in Home Improvement.
- 42:23Like it goes. Like that, every time there's a
- 42:27jump scare, you hear the sound of like, it's, it's obviously an
- 42:32instrument, but it sounds like like I'm like, that's all I
- 42:38could think of when I'm listening to it.
- 42:39I'm like, this is a Tim Allen. Is that the sound that when she
- 42:43opens the closet but nothing happens?
- 42:44No, no, that's, that's a different town.
- 42:46I'm talking about when the phone rings and it's his voice, you
- 42:49know, like the doors open or which door am I at, blah blah
- 42:53blah. Anytime there's something spooky
- 42:54said or cute that happens, you hear, I'm gonna get the sound
- 43:00bite and I'm gonna play it for you after.
- 43:01It's ridiculous, it's funny, it's laughable cause it's aged
- 43:06so badly. So you're watching it and you're
- 43:08like, oh man, this is definitely one of those 90s tropes.
- 43:12And like they would never fly now just just do the do the jump
- 43:16scare. Don't even.
- 43:18Yeah, sometimes when you watch old movies, like technology or
- 43:22different things cause them to make some decisions.
- 43:25That wouldn't fly today. It's all about the taste and the
- 43:28flavour, right? Yeah, like interior decorating
- 43:31in the 90s versus now. It's.
- 43:33Two different universes. All completely different.
- 43:35Yeah, who gets spin off? So you're not gonna like this,
- 43:41but I want. I might cross you over.
- 43:43Actually I wanna GAIL Weathers spin off a show or movie about
- 43:47her being a hard hitting crime reporter.
- 43:50She is sassy, mean, resilient and really beautiful.
- 43:53So she is everything we need and main character and plus the
- 43:57wardrobe would be amazing. She pulls some looks in Scream.
- 44:01Are you kidding? The lime green suit, the leather
- 44:03trench. Coat the Marge Simpson wants her
- 44:06suit back lime green. No, it's.
- 44:09It's it's it's very iconic 90s and it works.
- 44:12So if imagine if she had a whole show based on her, it would be
- 44:15like Sex in the City. It would be iconic outfits every
- 44:17episode along with her reporting on crime.
- 44:21OK so I have a plot twist here for you.
- 44:24I said I want to see a spin off of GAIL solving other homicides
- 44:28after. This.
- 44:30But but. I can't stand.
- 44:34Her around Dewey like it's she's gotta be a little more serious.
- 44:38Oh, she's got a crush on him. On Dewey.
- 44:41Young, David Arquette. Oh my God.
- 44:43Please, I'm gonna vomit with that mustache.
- 44:46He's delicious. No.
- 44:48Excuse me? OK.
- 44:52Delicious. I said that when we were
- 44:53watching it and you got offended.
- 44:55You know he is. He's unseasoned chicken.
- 44:57No, he's not. No, he's unseasoned.
- 44:59Very. He's very cute and.
- 45:00Charming. He's unseasoned Chicken.
- 45:01He's boiled chicken with a boiled potato and salt.
- 45:06No, I had area. That's straight kidney stone.
- 45:09OK, double feature. What are you?
- 45:12What are you watching with this? I mean, it's, it's, it's an
- 45:14obvious choice. If you watch Scream, you can
- 45:18watch any or all of the sequels. You could make it a marathon.
- 45:21You could go on for days. You could watch just the first
- 45:24four that are like the original 4, or you could add in the new
- 45:27ones including the upcoming screen 7.
- 45:29You have a double feature, you have to watch one.
- 45:31What are you watching? Well I said this earlier, I
- 45:33would wanna watch Scream 4 with this OK because good call cuz 4
- 45:36is my favorite of the sequels. Hayden Panettiere's acting is
- 45:40absolute chef's kiss. I love that they make a young
- 45:44girl the serial killer. Spoiler.
- 45:47Spoiler alert, but because it had never been done before and
- 45:51they have the The Internet Kid who is based on Shane Dawson.
- 45:55Ohe yeah, you told me about that.
- 45:56Yeah. So it's such, it's like it's
- 45:58it's own time capsule of the time that it came.
- 46:00Out. Yeah, that's.
- 46:01True, because it like that. That's more my high school
- 46:04years. Yeah, YouTube was just getting
- 46:05into a thing and people were streaming and vlogging.
- 46:09Yeah, so that's more of a time capsule of my years in high
- 46:12school because the first Scream, I was a bit young when it came
- 46:14out, but Scream 4 is like my high school years.
- 46:17Yeah. So that's my favorite of the
- 46:19sequels. And I would I would watch that
- 46:20with the double feature with screen one.
- 46:22My double feature is not a Scream movie.
- 46:24Actually I know she did last summer.
- 46:26I would watch that right after. This it does go well with.
- 46:29Screen goes well, it's like, you know, popcorn and then.
- 46:33A little bag of potato chips after.
- 46:34This. I think we've done that double
- 46:36feature before, either in the summer or on.
- 46:39During Halloween, both fun, they both have the similar structure,
- 46:43you know, and it's 2, two different flavors.
- 46:45Yeah. So yeah, leave a penny, take a
- 46:47penny. What scene are you taking out?
- 46:48What scene are you putting in? I'm going to go first.
- 46:51OK. So the scene I'm taken out is
- 46:53when the fawns becomes a red herring in the movie and he
- 46:57starts to like threaten other students and he starts screwing
- 46:59around like waving the scissors around in the in the principal's
- 47:03office. Like, why would they try to make
- 47:06us think the principle is the killer?
- 47:08What are you doing? The Fonz?
- 47:10He's like 4 foot 11. You're not killing anybody and
- 47:13he has no motive. It is kind of a weird.
- 47:15Moment. It's a weird red herring.
- 47:17I don't know who's. Fooled by that at all.
- 47:19And he in the movie, he's like, fairness would be to rip your
- 47:22insides out like. Who?
- 47:24Says that to a student while like opening and closing a sharp
- 47:28scissors at their throat. I still love him as a.
- 47:30Character. No, It's so ridiculous.
- 47:33I would remove that. Putting a scene in I, I, I think
- 47:38we're good. I don't need to add anything.
- 47:41So I I have one for each. So what I want to them to take
- 47:44out is they can take out the bathroom scene where the right
- 47:48random high school student talks about Sydney being the killer.
- 47:52The way she talks is, again, it's a it's kind of a cringy
- 47:56moment. Kids do not talk like that.
- 47:58She's looking in the mirror and she says her mother's death
- 48:01leaves her disturbed and hostile in a cruel and inhumane world.
- 48:05She's delusional. But then she realizes teen
- 48:08suicide is out and homicide is in.
- 48:11It adds nothing to the movie and it feels like the film is
- 48:14forcing the meta feeling. No, it's just funny.
- 48:17Like I found that whole scene hilarious and she's crying in
- 48:20the stall. Like she's upset in the stall
- 48:23but I'm laughing. Yeah, they could have the bitchy
- 48:25girls talking about, oh, I know Sidney Prescott would have to
- 48:28start. But when she goes on that
- 48:29tirade, she's like, I learned that I'm Ricky Lake it.
- 48:32I shot out Ricky Lake. For being a terrible, terrible
- 48:35person for young teenage. Girls, I I didn't like it.
- 48:39So I would take that scene out. Yeah, you could have Sydney in
- 48:42the bathroom, you could have the killer scene happen, but I take
- 48:45out that part. With or even just like be a
- 48:46little more subtle with the the girl.
- 48:49Saying. She said yeah.
- 48:50The the film being meta feels forced in that scene.
- 48:53That's why it's pure nostalgia now.
- 48:55It's too much. It's too much.
- 48:57It's like. Cause without that it's still,
- 48:59it's still meta. It's.
- 49:00Tarantino made a horror movie. It would be this.
- 49:03Like maybe a little bloodier. It would be bloodier and there.
- 49:06Would be bloodier, but it would be like this.
- 49:08It would be meta, you know, It would be extra, very extra.
- 49:11Yeah, so to to add in, sure. I just think that Randy is
- 49:16amazing and I want more of him. He talks about the horror movie
- 49:19formula. He's an expert on how to survive
- 49:21horror movies. Like give this guy more screen
- 49:23time. He's awesome.
- 49:24He needs he needs to be in a few more scenes.
- 49:27Jamie Kennedy is so amazing, so funny.
- 49:29Malibu's most wanted? Represent boot.
- 49:35They need to bring that. Back lazy Sunday vibes.
- 49:38So horror movies begged to be watched in a dark room on a
- 49:41weekend. So maybe a lazy Sunday night
- 49:44because I do love this movie and I would watch it anytime of
- 49:46year. But I don't really want to watch
- 49:49this during the day. I want it to be in the evening.
- 49:51So this lazy Sunday vibe for me, I have the vibe is always
- 49:54October, Halloween time. You have this movie on while you
- 49:59decorate, while you carve a pumpkin, have some pumpkin pie
- 50:02or a sip of coffee. You've got that fall weather
- 50:05vibe, and this movie is playing in the background.
- 50:08You're not really paying attention to it, but anytime the
- 50:11killer calls, you stop what you're doing and you start
- 50:13listening and then you just kind of go on with what you're doing.
- 50:16It's one of those. It could be on on a Sunday any
- 50:20time of year, but you're gonna watch Scream, you're gonna watch
- 50:23Halloween, you're gonna watch some of the classic horror
- 50:26staples no matter what you do. And you're cute.
- 50:28You do like to put on a scary movie when you carve pumpkins.
- 50:31Yeah, it's a vibe. You know it's that time of year,
- 50:34right? You put Christmas music on when
- 50:38you know it's Christmas time. You put horror movies on?
- 50:40Well, it's Halloween or October. That's cute.
- 50:43You're cute. Alright, so I just added a
- 50:49little spot here called callbacks because there's a lot
- 50:52of callbacks in this movie, a lot of references to old scary
- 50:56movies. So I just wanted to go through
- 50:59this because, you know, you wouldn't do it justice if you
- 51:01didn't. At the beginning of the movie,
- 51:04Drew Barrymore's parents show up after she's murdered and they
- 51:08can't find you. Barrymore.
- 51:09There's, you know, smoke in the house because the popcorn, the
- 51:12jiffy pop blew up. And then no, that was scary
- 51:15movie. The jiffy pop just burned in
- 51:17this movie. The the dad tells the mom go
- 51:20down to drive down to the Mackenzies.
- 51:23That is the same line given to the children at the end of
- 51:27Halloween with Jamie Lee. The first one, she tells the
- 51:31little kids to go down to the Mackenzies where it's safe.
- 51:35So that's a nice little homage to that.
- 51:38They even talk about Jamie Lee's boobs and this and how she's the
- 51:41scream queen. And Neve Campbell is a scream
- 51:44queen now. And she, you know, they
- 51:46literally had this little segment called Scream Queens.
- 51:48Yeah. Linda Blair is one of the
- 51:51reporters on the high school lawn.
- 51:53She cameos. No.
- 51:55Exorcist little girl that sucks cocks at hell.
- 51:58I've never noticed that. She's one of the.
- 52:00Reporters and her earrings are a little crosses.
- 52:03Wow, OK. So it's really cool.
- 52:06Billy Loomis, the boyfriend last name does Doctor Loomis from
- 52:11Halloween. Of course.
- 52:14Wow, they loaded them up in. There, telling you Freddy
- 52:17Krueger is basically a janitor in this.
- 52:21Well, he's wearing the. Wes Craven's, Yeah, but that's
- 52:23Wes Craven. Is it?
- 52:25Yeah, he's dressed up. As.
- 52:27Him, and they call him Freddie. Stefans calls him Fred.
- 52:33And then they mention by mistake, they're like, they're
- 52:37talking about movie directors and they say W Carpenter, they
- 52:40mix W Craven and John Carpenter's names.
- 52:43Yeah, she also says what? What's what horror movie is
- 52:46this? I spit on your garage.
- 52:47Yeah, that's so funny. It on your grave.
- 52:49Yeah, that's a good line. So yeah, there's a lot of
- 52:51references. And then you have that cycle
- 52:53line at the end because we all go a little mad sometimes.
- 52:56Yeah, not to mention in the opening scene, Drew Barrymore
- 53:00lists like 3 different horror movies that she talks.
- 53:02One Nightmare on Elm Street, she talks about the Jason movies.
- 53:06What are those? Called Friday 13th.
- 53:08Friday the 13th and she talks about Halloween.
- 53:11Yeah, and that's never been done in a movie or horror movie
- 53:15before where they mention other horror movies.
- 53:16Well, it adds to the to the meta feeling and the the, you know,
- 53:21the the mocking of horror movies well-being.
- 53:22Horrible. They're like, oh, that's weird.
- 53:24Like they're talking about what we just saw.
- 53:27Yeah, which is kind of interesting.
- 53:28So, miscellaneous or shower thoughts?
- 53:31OK, we actually did. We hit a few of them throughout.
- 53:36But before we hop into that, I did I want to introduce a new
- 53:39segment. Permanent or just for horror?
- 53:43I think this could be permanent. OK, go for.
- 53:45It So I want to introduce a new segment called Party like it's
- 53:482026 OK, where we can discuss how the movie would be different
- 53:53if it came out this year OK and I just have a few notes about
- 53:57that so we know screen works in the current generation because
- 54:02of the remakes, even though they're not as good so it can be
- 54:05done today. If this movie took place today,
- 54:08it would be easier to find Sydney's dad because they could
- 54:11attract his phone, right? Because they found his car, but
- 54:14they never really found him. There would be no delay in the
- 54:17video for the kids at the. Party.
- 54:20Yeah, that's. True, it would be it.
- 54:22Would be crystal clear and there would be no delay.
- 54:26So that was one thing that I thought.
- 54:27Was funny and you could talk back and forth.
- 54:29Yeah. Easily the baby monitor.
- 54:32The cop would not have questioned why Billy had a
- 54:34cellular telephone. Oh yeah, that that has aged very
- 54:38poorly. Yeah, what?
- 54:39What do you need with a cellular telephone?
- 54:41He's like, what officer? Everybody.
- 54:42Everybody's got one. It falls out of his pocket when
- 54:44he goes into her room after. And it looks like a house phone.
- 54:47No, she she reacts like it's either a gun or a knife or a
- 54:54script that says hello, Sydney. Like, yeah, it's a soulful
- 54:58today. Everybody has a phone.
- 55:00You wouldn't be. Surprised it's a different time.
- 55:03Yeah, so it definitely was a different time.
- 55:05So nobody would have questioned a cell phone.
- 55:07Yeah. And TVZ are skinnier now, so
- 55:10dropping one on someone's face probably wouldn't kill them
- 55:13because that's how she. I don't know if that kills you,
- 55:16but it takes it takes. Them out.
- 55:18I mean if you drop a 75 inch flat screen like that'll hurt.
- 55:22It'll hurt, but I don't think it would kill.
- 55:23You if it will, if it the only the weight.
- 55:28The glass, the old ones were much heavier and electrocuted
- 55:30and I don't think that would happen.
- 55:31Today. I mean, it could.
- 55:32It could they could electrocute. You.
- 55:35I mean, I don't think it would kill.
- 55:36You though, well, I'm not testing and I don't think
- 55:38Mythbusters is gonna look into it.
- 55:40No, probably not. Did you notice anything that you
- 55:44think would be different if it was made today?
- 55:46I haven't really thought about it, to be honest.
- 55:48Just off the top of my head. I would think that everything
- 55:52about the killing and all that would be on the Internet right
- 55:55away. But people getting killed, Yeah,
- 55:58but they've done that in the new movies, right?
- 56:00They like literally vlogged everything.
- 56:03Yeah, and Randy would have like a Patreon.
- 56:04Larry talks about horror movies. Yeah, or something.
- 56:08Or a YouTube channel, something. That's true.
- 56:11Yeah, I guess you're right. Like those little points about
- 56:15the cell phone and the camera. Yeah, it would.
- 56:17It's a game changer. Technology does make things
- 56:20better, but it can also spoil things a little bit.
- 56:23OK, Do you wanna go to shower? Thoughts though?
- 56:25Yeah, why don't you go? Because I just did.
- 56:27That OK, so for me, opening sequence is actually scary to
- 56:32this day, annually, like a little bit frightened.
- 56:37But the rest of the movie is just a comedy.
- 56:40It's a, it's almost like Clue. It's satirical now.
- 56:45It just looks like a big fat joke.
- 56:49It takes itself too seriously. And the other movies don't.
- 56:53So Scream 234 and yadda yadda yadda.
- 56:55They keep going. They they it's tongue in cheek.
- 56:58This one, it's taking itself really seriously.
- 57:01And I think that's the part that's aged poorly.
- 57:04Yeah, but this, this movie was making a point like it had to.
- 57:07It had to. It revitalized the whole genre,
- 57:09so they had to. It had to be serious at some
- 57:13time. I know, but.
- 57:15It's just, it's very, it's aged very.
- 57:17Poorly in that regard. Yeah, but they kept what worked
- 57:19in the in the future. Movies Gail's lime green suit I
- 57:23mentioned or you mentioned you thought it was nice.
- 57:26So March Simpson wants her shit. Back.
- 57:27It's not nice, but it's iconic. I wouldn't wear.
- 57:30It Liev Schreiber is cotton, it's kind of cool now that he's
- 57:34a huge famous actor, should say. 2.2 seconds on a.
- 57:38TV I know, but he's in the other ones.
- 57:40Right. Yeah, he is.
- 57:41The bathroom scene where the ghost faces in the stalls.
- 57:45That actually freaked me out for a lot of years when I was a kid
- 57:49because I would literally look under the stall doors.
- 57:52Not under the doors, but enough. To check to see if there was
- 57:54feet because I just. You know, it freaked me out that
- 57:58somebody would hide that way in the bathroom.
- 58:00And when he whispers Sydney, that's pretty spooky.
- 58:02Too very. So when when I watched this long
- 58:06time ago, I remember we had it on VHS or was on TV, so you
- 58:09didn't have like really good sound.
- 58:11So I didn't know, he says. Sydney.
- 58:15I'd really only notice it for the first time.
- 58:17This past watching. I was like, oh that's because
- 58:19it's so. It's so quiet.
- 58:21Yeah, exactly. It's very it's.
- 58:23Freaky. Spooky Sydney is back at school
- 58:26the day after she's attacked by someone in her home in a costume
- 58:31with a combat knife. What the fuck?
- 58:34Like you just got in like home invasion, why are you at school
- 58:37the next day? That's a good that part.
- 58:40Made no. Fucking sense to me, but her?
- 58:42Dad is like trying to kill your dad's missing and she's with
- 58:45Tatum. Like not gonna stay at Tatum's
- 58:46house alone. No, you're not going to school.
- 58:48You're hanging out with the police and the police are gonna
- 58:51come and stay outside your house.
- 58:53Very similar to Scare Scream 4 where there's protection at the
- 58:57house. Like why are?
- 58:59You at school doesn't screen. For why are you at school?
- 59:02That part is ridiculous. Yeah, Why did they kill Casey?
- 59:06What's the motive there? She's not connected to the store
- 59:08at all. Yeah, that's true.
- 59:09Why is she murdered? There's a few people who was
- 59:11like, what the fuck? Why did they murder Tatum?
- 59:14I think they mentioned why they killed Drew Barrymore.
- 59:18Said Stu dated her for 2.2 seconds.
- 59:19But why would that make her a victim?
- 59:21Why would it make her the first victim?
- 59:23Well, the second. To talk about the talk about
- 59:25motive being incidental. So because it's the Millennium.
- 59:30So the fact. That they're trying to just kill
- 59:33people at random just to throw people off.
- 59:35Yeah but he obviously just wants he just wants to kill his
- 59:37girlfriend cause he's mad at her for not banging him and because
- 59:40his mothers her mom was a slut. That's probably why Stu killed
- 59:43killed and it killed the boyfriend too.
- 59:45Right, they killed the boyfriend.
- 59:46Well, that's just that's what I'm saying.
- 59:48Why you killing them? Why you killing the principle?
- 59:51They're angry. They're angry losers.
- 59:53Why would you kill Randy? Like there's a bunch of people.
- 59:55It's like this is on this person's unnecessary.
- 59:57Just kill your girlfriend and frame her dad for it.
- 1:00:01Well I think they're trying to create a lot of deaths to throw
- 1:00:05the police off. If they just killed Sydney and
- 1:00:08blame the dad then it's more likely that it's the boyfriend.
- 1:00:12But if they killed multiple people like the principal at
- 1:00:14random actually the principal makes them look more guilty to
- 1:00:18be honest. I was saying why would the dad
- 1:00:20kill them? If they were to get caught and
- 1:00:22there's this many kills, you're definitely looking at life in
- 1:00:24prison, possibly the death penalty, whereas you just killed
- 1:00:27your girlfriend and you got caught.
- 1:00:28It's a crime of passion. It doesn't look quite as bad.
- 1:00:32Was kidnapped that same night, right?
- 1:00:35Yeah, you just. Yeah, cause he they checked his
- 1:00:37hotel and he wasn't there. No, but that night that he
- 1:00:40climbed into her room, that's the night that her dad was
- 1:00:42kidnapped. Oht he's distracting.
- 1:00:44Her. Yeah.
- 1:00:44They killed Drew Barrymore. They left.
- 1:00:47He climbed into her room. Her dad came and said bye, and
- 1:00:51he was gone the next day. That's the night that they
- 1:00:53kidnapped. Him.
- 1:00:54I always thought it was weird that the dad said goodbye to her
- 1:00:57at night. She's going to be up for for
- 1:01:00school in the morning. Are you leaving at 4:00 AM?
- 1:01:03She would have seen him in the morning.
- 1:01:04It made no sense that he said goodbye to her at night.
- 1:01:06Oh no, he was like his He was probably leaving to catch a
- 1:01:08flight really early before she got up for school.
- 1:01:11Yeah, I just, I thought it was a little bit weird.
- 1:01:13You know, dads are, they get to the airport 4 hours before the
- 1:01:15flight early. So Sidney punches GAIL and I
- 1:01:24think it was really uncalled for.
- 1:01:27All she said was like, I don't like GAIL.
- 1:01:30But all she said was I'll send you a copy.
- 1:01:32Are you all right? It's not answer alright.
- 1:01:36Tatum, it's OK, She's just doing her job.
- 1:01:39Yes, that's. So how's the?
- 1:01:42Yeah, they'll be out later this year.
- 1:01:45I'll look for. I'll send you a copy.
- 1:01:49Commercial. Break her.
- 1:01:52Nice. Shot.
- 1:01:54Does that warrant a fucking punch?
- 1:01:56The book talks about Sydney being a liar, putting Cotton
- 1:02:00Weary in prison. She's mad at GAIL because GAIL
- 1:02:03tried to discredit her cotton. Weird.
- 1:02:06She's right. Yeah, but Sydney's a teenage
- 1:02:09girl and she's like, you're trying to discredit me after I
- 1:02:11went through the trauma of losing my mom.
- 1:02:13Of course she punched her in the face.
- 1:02:14I mean, yeah, she. Kind of deserved.
- 1:02:16It OK, but the triggering the trigger that got her was.
- 1:02:20I'll send you a copy. That's not what that's not what
- 1:02:22got her. It was it was being dismissed
- 1:02:25that bothered her I guess. So another one of my shower
- 1:02:29thoughts is how rich is Sydney's dad?
- 1:02:33For. Sure, the huge desk.
- 1:02:34Gary Movie got it right. The huge deck, the the the
- 1:02:37amazing view, not to mention the enormity of the house.
- 1:02:40It's huge. It looks like a Country Club.
- 1:02:43Like what do you think he did for a living that he could
- 1:02:45afford all that as a single? Parent.
- 1:02:46He would be a boomer now, right? By that age, yeah.
- 1:02:50Yeah, probably. I think they're technically.
- 1:02:51Genetics. He's probably just, you know,
- 1:02:53shoe salesman. A door to door.
- 1:02:56She smells salesman He bought his house for a nickel and a
- 1:02:59pineapple and the 1975 and then he bought another one 1978 and.
- 1:03:05And he paid it off in six years and any generation.
- 1:03:07They had to be rich to have that house.
- 1:03:09I hope it's kind of like flinched.
- 1:03:11The commotion in the garage when Tatum is killed is really loud
- 1:03:15and supposedly nobody in the party hears that, and nobody
- 1:03:19else comes out to grab a beer during that time.
- 1:03:21Yeah, there's, I think there's a lot of music playing.
- 1:03:24Right, yeah, but she's she's getting fucking murdered and the
- 1:03:28garage goes up and it was, it was like be rattling the house.
- 1:03:31I've been to college parties. This is a high school party, but
- 1:03:34I've been to college parties. People fall on the ground,
- 1:03:38people break bones, they bleed, and people just laugh and then
- 1:03:43move on. They're wasted.
- 1:03:45What the hell kind of college products were you going to?
- 1:03:48I guess the ones where people like went to Wardsboro High
- 1:03:51School, I don't know Jesus. I mean, that's, that's pretty
- 1:03:55standard procedure to me. Fight fights break out at the
- 1:04:00you know, people get beat up. Somebody.
- 1:04:02When people don't even know. The garage door gets like broken
- 1:04:05when you open our garage door and where I'm like upstairs in
- 1:04:07our son's room, I could hear it. I mean, it's a movie.
- 1:04:10Yeah, you gotta. So this movie I, I wanted to say
- 1:04:14similar to Fast and Furious, you have to turn your brain off a
- 1:04:16little bit to enjoy it. Yeah.
- 1:04:19You can't. You have to suspend disbelief
- 1:04:21just a little bit. It's not a bad movie, it's not
- 1:04:24dumb, it's just a little bit campy, but just the right amount
- 1:04:29anymore and you got to throw the pot out and start over.
- 1:04:33I thought the baby was crying. Oh, my God.
- 1:04:35I just have two more. Yeah.
- 1:04:37So even though I did think that this scene at the school was
- 1:04:41very, very cringy between Gale and Dewey, when they go for that
- 1:04:47walk in the woods near the party, their chemistry is
- 1:04:51electric. You can see why they got
- 1:04:53married. You can like smell the sex
- 1:04:56through the screen. I couldn't see it, man.
- 1:04:58No, the the chemistry is palpable.
- 1:05:01The just the Dewey character is so dumb.
- 1:05:04You're not a woman. You don't understand.
- 1:05:06What? He's dumb.
- 1:05:07That he's cute. Sure, but he's really not.
- 1:05:11And charming. He's Oh my God, he's so dumb
- 1:05:14looking. I want the.
- 1:05:17Screen. And then in the second movie,
- 1:05:19he's got that limp that just vanishes.
- 1:05:22Oh, poor Dewey. And then just my final comment.
- 1:05:25They poke fun at this and Scary Movie, but the final scene with
- 1:05:28Billy and Stu is very homoerotic.
- 1:05:33They're literally cuddling at one point while they're telling
- 1:05:35her that they killed all of her friends.
- 1:05:38Yeah, they probably. Like Stews face is like in the
- 1:05:41crook of Billy's neck and they're like we killed your
- 1:05:44friends and they're like cuddling.
- 1:05:45It's it feels pretty kind of gay.
- 1:05:49Yeah. I mean, hey, maybe they were.
- 1:05:51We don't know. Maybe they were, they don't
- 1:05:53actually say, but I I just, I thought it was weird for high
- 1:05:56school boys to be acting that way.
- 1:05:58No, I mean if you've ever been in a locker room at a sports
- 1:06:02team. It gets pretty gay.
- 1:06:04No, it's like, it's just, it's very primal, that's all.
- 1:06:08I think we're confusing that scene with just being primal,
- 1:06:13you know, just killing people. They're doing it together.
- 1:06:16For all we know they've taken a blood oath or something and
- 1:06:19they've licked each others bloody hands like some nasty
- 1:06:22shit. Like yeah, they feel like
- 1:06:23connected because of their probably.
- 1:06:24Yeah, that's. And Jamie Kennedy, shout out to
- 1:06:26him. He's really good in this movie.
- 1:06:28My God, amazing. The the video store scene is so
- 1:06:30good. And also I'm watching that
- 1:06:33scene. I'm like, he tells us who the
- 1:06:35killer is in that whole scene. He says who the killer is.
- 1:06:39He explains why. He says it's obviously the
- 1:06:42boyfriend. And then Skeet Aldrich's
- 1:06:45character. I'm just like, yo, you're the
- 1:06:48killer. The way he's behaving like Stew
- 1:06:52is not behaving like a killer. He's just behaving like an
- 1:06:55idiot. But Skeet Ulrich is like
- 1:06:58threatening Jamie Kennedy's character.
- 1:07:01He's looking at him like he's gonna hurt.
- 1:07:03Him, I think he's known to be like broody and stuff though.
- 1:07:06I think that's how he is. These discount Johnny Depp.
- 1:07:09Yeah, but I think, I think he's supposed to be like a dime
- 1:07:12store, you know, whatever they Yeah, like a little dime store.
- 1:07:15Thought this cell phone. And yeah, like with.
- 1:07:17This with this terrible haircut. With his tight shirt.
- 1:07:20Remember his dad? Police station.
- 1:07:22Yeah, his dad doesn't. Yeah.
- 1:07:24I know his dad here was like and also what is skeet all Rick?
- 1:07:28Is he Hispanic or something? He's got a tan he's got.
- 1:07:31Like he's definitely white if his name Skeet.
- 1:07:34Yeah, that's true. There's there's no other.
- 1:07:36There's no other way there's anything else.
- 1:07:38There's skeet and cocks. In this movie, yeah.
- 1:07:42And Campbells, skiing cocks and Campbells.
- 1:07:45Yeah. OK, Does this movie hit
- 1:07:47different as a parent? So the scene at the beginning
- 1:07:51when Casey is being killed and she's she's gasping and crying
- 1:07:55for her mom, that got to me because she is just a kid and
- 1:08:00she's crying and she's wanting her mom and she's saying mom,
- 1:08:02mom. Yeah.
- 1:08:03Like whenever I hear kid yell mom and I'm on public, my head
- 1:08:06snaps into the direction. So whenever I hear somebody cry
- 1:08:09for their mom, my mom instinct. Just kicks in you have trauma
- 1:08:12now. For me, Mommy, mommy, mommy,
- 1:08:15mommy every day. So that that got to me a little
- 1:08:18bit. But this is the 90s teen movie.
- 1:08:20The gore is supposed to be more fun than disturbing.
- 1:08:23Yeah, it's not really that disturbing of a movie.
- 1:08:25They are kids. They're high schoolers.
- 1:08:27But it's. Not some of the scenes like the
- 1:08:29intestine scene of the boyfriend of the beginning.
- 1:08:31That was gross. It's.
- 1:08:33Gross. That was the grossest.
- 1:08:34It's gross, but it's it's it's fun.
- 1:08:36It's a slasher. So like it does, it didn't
- 1:08:39emotionally didn't really get to me that much.
- 1:08:42OK. Yeah, yeah, Watching this as a
- 1:08:45parent, the only reason it hits different is because I'm
- 1:08:48watching and I'm like, OK, you know, you got Stew, you got
- 1:08:52skied all Rick, you got all these high school students.
- 1:08:55And I'm like, I really hope that my kids don't hang out with a
- 1:09:02sketch bag like Skeet Alrick where and join him in doing
- 1:09:07something horrible like murdering somebody.
- 1:09:09Like, obviously every parent wants their kids to be normal
- 1:09:12and not violent and murderous, but you watch this and you like,
- 1:09:18you know, you, you went to school.
- 1:09:19I went to school you, you went to school with some strange
- 1:09:22people. And yeah, I know of people that
- 1:09:25are in jail or are dead because of doing criminal activities.
- 1:09:31And you're like this person, you know, was in my class.
- 1:09:34They sat right in front of me. They sat behind me.
- 1:09:37So it's. Just been it all comes down to
- 1:09:39the home lives. You have to just try to provide
- 1:09:41your child with a stable loving home life and and hope that you
- 1:09:45raise them that that doesn't happen.
- 1:09:47Not to mention, I mean not not to call them out, but our son
- 1:09:51really does March to the beat of his own drum.
- 1:09:53He's not going to be peer pressured in anything.
- 1:09:55He is such, he's so, such an individual.
- 1:09:59He's not gonna be following anybody.
- 1:10:01He's like crazy lead killing people.
- 1:10:03He's gonna be like, I'm gonna be over here doing my weird thing,
- 1:10:06whatever it is, whatever it is that he loves to do at that
- 1:10:09point because he just has like, his things that he gets obsessed
- 1:10:12with. All right, so how many Jiffy
- 1:10:16pops out of 10? Do you rate this movie?
- 1:10:19That's a good one. Burning jiffy bubs.
- 1:10:23I had to be very objective when I was reading this.
- 1:10:27Yeah. Because again, this is a movie
- 1:10:30that I love. I it's it's very nostalgic, but
- 1:10:34looking at it now with everything that's happened with
- 1:10:36horror, it's not as good as it once was.
- 1:10:39Yeah. And that's what I realized this
- 1:10:40viewing. It paved the way.
- 1:10:42Yeah. But now it hasn't aged the best
- 1:10:44in terms of being a great movie. Yeah.
- 1:10:47So I'm going to have to give it a six out of 10/6.
- 1:10:50Jiffy pops out of 10. Six jiffy pops.
- 1:10:53Yeah, it's, it's a very important piece of cinema.
- 1:10:56But some of the acting is bad. Some of the scenes could easily
- 1:11:00be cut. And I mean, the twist at the end
- 1:11:05is good, but because we've seen it so many times, it, it feels
- 1:11:08played out. Yeah.
- 1:11:09So it's it doesn't have, it doesn't pack the same wall that
- 1:11:12I'm sure it did when it was released.
- 1:11:13So I gave it a six out of 10. 6 out of 10 is savage.
- 1:11:18I'm going to give this one and like I said, this movie pure
- 1:11:20nostalgia now. So somebody who watches it for
- 1:11:24the first time who's let's say Gen.
- 1:11:26Z, they might be like, this is really stupid.
- 1:11:29Why are we watching? This it's dated.
- 1:11:31Yeah, but for myself, like I said, I watch it every
- 1:11:34Halloween. At least so.
- 1:11:36We're watching it at least twice a year.
- 1:11:40This is the first one, too. We might be watching some of the
- 1:11:42sequels, but we're we're talking about the first one.
- 1:11:44Anyway, I'm gonna give this a 7 1/2.
- 1:11:47Jiffy pops out of 10. OK.
- 1:11:50I think a lot of ideas in this movie still hold up.
- 1:11:54They still like they were talking about the consent thing.
- 1:11:57That's still very pertinent to our time now in 2026.
- 1:12:01And if it wasn't, they wouldn't keep making these movies.
- 1:12:04Obviously they remixed it a little bit here and there.
- 1:12:06For don't get me wrong, I still love this movie.
- 1:12:09Yeah, but watching it, like I said, like as an outsider that's
- 1:12:12never seen it before, Yeah, 6 out of 10.
- 1:12:14Yeah, I mean, like the first, like I said, all the the first
- 1:12:18opening scene is really, really amazing.
- 1:12:20It's like an A+. And then you have all the phone
- 1:12:22calls scenes. They're very gripping.
- 1:12:25You know the scene where she falls asleep on the couch?
- 1:12:28That scene makes me feel like I'm in an empty house.
- 1:12:31Yeah, it gets spooky when she wakes up in this dark out.
- 1:12:33It's like, oh shit. Yeah, everybody's fault that you
- 1:12:36fall asleep on the couch. You wake up and you're like,
- 1:12:38what? Year is it?
- 1:12:40You know I'm gonna be 7 1/2. Jiffy pops.
- 1:12:44I love this movie. Yeah, maybe I could give it a
- 1:12:47higher score or a lower score, but that's what I felt.
- 1:12:50It's it's a good movie. It's not perfect, it's not
- 1:12:54great, but it's it's walking that fine line of, you know, I
- 1:12:58wanna see it every year. It wasn't the hero we needed, it
- 1:13:01was the hero we deserved. Did I mess that?
- 1:13:03Up. No, I think you got it, Dark
- 1:13:06Knight. Shout out to Gary Oldman.
- 1:13:08Yeah, so shouts out. So that was episode 6 of the
- 1:13:13Take Two pod with mom and dad. I hope you enjoyed that.
- 1:13:17We are working on episode 7. That'll be a surprise once it
- 1:13:22comes out, but thank you for listening.
- 1:13:25We hope you go watch the new Scream 7 movie in theatres.
- 1:13:29They're coming out next week. Was it Feb 27?
- 1:13:33Feb 27. Canada.
- 1:13:34That's the release. Date Canada.
- 1:13:35So go watch that. Hopefully it's one of the better
- 1:13:38of the other movies. We know that sequels can be
- 1:13:42good, it can be bad. Let's hope for a good one.
- 1:13:45You got Neve Campbell. Back.
